- 0:22Speaker 3: course if you missed the interview you want to rehear it,
- 0:26Speaker 3: let's do it for the first time. Check out the
- 0:28Speaker 3: Craigway Show podcast anywhere you get your podcasts. From halfway
- 0:34Speaker 3: through today's program, Craig Way will join us next hour.
- 0:37Speaker 3: He's up a Arlington, Texas for the Texas Coach's Leadership Summit,
- 0:42Speaker 3: where he spoke at today, so get a rundown for him.
- 0:45Speaker 3: A busy weekend for Craig, of course, he was in Columbia,
- 0:48Speaker 3: South Carolina for the Texas men's basketball team as they
- 0:52Speaker 3: suffered a billow big blow to their NCAA tournament chances,
- 0:56Speaker 3: falling to the South Carolina eighty four to sixty nine
- 1:00Speaker 3: at Colonial Life Arena. Trey Johnson had twenty nine points,
- 1:03Speaker 3: a game high, but with Texas lost just the third
- 1:07Speaker 3: time these two schools had met since the nineteen eighty
- 1:09Speaker 3: one or sorry, the third time meeting overall first time
- 1:12Speaker 3: since the nineteen eighty one season. Trey Johnson eleven of
- 1:15Speaker 3: twenty one, three to seven from beyond the arc, four
- 1:18Speaker 3: or four at the line, three rebounds, really the only
- 1:22Speaker 3: long Coruner with a sign of life shooting the basketball
- 1:26Speaker 3: in that game. Kidd and Shedwick five blocks, went away
- 1:29Speaker 3: from a career high nine rebounds, eight points and thirty minutes.
- 1:33Speaker 3: But it was a Texas team that just got kind
- 1:37Speaker 3: of outplayed from the beginning. In South Carolina kind of
- 1:39Speaker 3: played with urgency, the sense of urgency that Rtie has
- 1:43Speaker 3: talked about, came out firing from the gate and played
- 1:47Speaker 3: like a team that had nothing to lose. It in
- 1:48Speaker 3: Texas just kind of came out slow. You know, it
- 1:50Speaker 3: had not played since the Saturday before that huge win
- 1:53Speaker 3: over Kentucky, had the midleweek break and we hoped it
- 1:56Speaker 3: would be a good time for the team to kind
- 1:58Speaker 3: of heal up. But still no Kindle. He continues the
- 2:01Speaker 3: miss games with that hip fluxure injury. Arthur Arthur Klumba
- 2:05Speaker 3: did come back, but only played off the bench. The
- 2:08Speaker 3: Von Pryor got some playing time as well. But Texas,
- 2:13Speaker 3: you know, they had a five to four to lead
- 2:16Speaker 3: in that game, and then that.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Was pretty much it.
- 2:18Speaker 3: South Carolina would score eight straight points the next three
- 2:21Speaker 3: and a half minutes to grab a twelve to five lead.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Jason Kent made it a twenty to twelve game with
- 2:26Speaker 3: just over seven to play before South Carolina scored back
- 2:30Speaker 3: to back buckets would go up twenty four. The twelve
- 2:34Speaker 3: Colin Murray Bows had a big dunk just under the
- 2:36Speaker 3: six minute mark Jason Kent a lamp would cut it
- 2:39Speaker 3: to a ten point game with just over ninety seconds
- 2:41Speaker 3: to play in that opening half, but the game clocks
- 2:43Speaker 3: would finish the last minute and forty seven seconds on
- 2:46Speaker 3: an eight to nothing run. Would go in the halftime
- 2:49Speaker 3: leading by eighteen points, all the momentum in the game,
- 2:53Speaker 3: and then kind of just cruised on through the second half.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Led by twenty two points in the second half, with
- 3:00Speaker 3: just under seven minutes to play in the contest, Texas
- 3:02Speaker 3: would go on a little thirteen to two scoring spurt
- 3:06Speaker 3: would cut it to an eleven point game, which is
- 3:08Speaker 3: over three minutes to go, but that was it. South
- 3:11Speaker 3: Coolin would go on the win eighty four to sixty nine. Texas,
- 3:16Speaker 3: now sixteen and eleven have dropped to five and nine
- 3:20Speaker 3: in conference play and we'll take on Arkansas Wednesday night.
- 3:24Speaker 3: After the game, Craig Way and Eddie Orron visited with
- 3:26Speaker 3: Texas Long Worn's head coach Rodney Terry.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Visiting with the head coach Rodney Terry.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Arnty, you said it before the game, and you've said
- 3:32Speaker 4: the last few days that this was a dangerous team,
- 3:35Speaker 4: that they were coming to bed at some point, and
- 3:37Speaker 4: I guess it's a combination of them doing a lot
- 3:39Speaker 4: of things right and then your ballclamb unable to get
- 3:42Speaker 4: the momentum going that you need in the first half.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Well, every game we go into I make sure I
- 3:46Speaker 5: guess it's prepared for what they're about to go into.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Theo's a physical team that's had a chance to win
- 3:50Speaker 5: a lot of games in this building and realistily have
- 3:52Speaker 5: about five wins in conference. Playing at don't but they
- 3:55Speaker 5: played great at home. We didn't play really physical at home.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Yew physical does our toughness in the first half, and
- 4:01Speaker 5: we didn't respond.
- 4:01Speaker 6: We didn't respond.
- 4:03Speaker 5: You know, we have to again, you know, come in
- 4:06Speaker 5: and put it on emphasis on deepest play as hard
- 4:08Speaker 5: as we can play, and we didn't do that tonight.
- 4:10Speaker 1: How difficult is that?
- 4:11Speaker 4: For for you and for the coaches when you see
- 4:14Speaker 4: it happening early and maybe they don't get the indication
- 4:17Speaker 4: of it early on the floor when that physical Uh,
- 4:20Speaker 4: you might say the dominance is being established by South Carolina.
- 4:24Speaker 7: And what and what you were trying to get your
- 4:26Speaker 7: guys to do to respond.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I mean, we call time out to try to get
- 4:29Speaker 5: that point across. And again, you know, they had a
- 4:32Speaker 5: really good player on the floor there tonight. He's I mean,
- 4:34Speaker 5: he's one of the top five best players in this league.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And when you're going in, we got to try to
- 4:38Speaker 5: do a good job with them. I mean, he's he's
- 4:40Speaker 5: a herd. He's a hard matchup, you know. And then
- 4:43Speaker 5: we didn't. We didn't have that match up very well.
- 4:45Speaker 4: You made a push second half, you cut a twenty
- 4:47Speaker 4: two point deficit in half down to eleven at one
- 4:50Speaker 4: point in the second half. There, I saw some energy
- 4:52Speaker 4: out of your guys. Is that kind of what the
- 4:55Speaker 4: what has to be stressed during the course of the
- 4:56Speaker 4: week as you get ready for that game back in Arkansas.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Oh, it's out about it.
- 5:00Speaker 5: This week is about trying to play tournament basketball right now.
- 5:03Speaker 5: You know, in terms of understanding that you have one
- 5:06Speaker 5: bad half. You know, you don't play a forty many games, then.
- 5:09Speaker 6: Your season's over. And understanding the urgency you have to play.
- 5:13Speaker 1: With this time of the year.
- 5:13Speaker 5: You can't wait for March to try trying to play
- 5:15Speaker 5: that way. Really try to impercize that the guys on
- 5:18Speaker 5: the boy it want to start playing that way right now.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Against a team that we knew that plays really well
- 5:23Speaker 5: at home.
- 5:24Speaker 8: Well, you got some big games come up. You got
- 5:25Speaker 8: to put this one behind and go forward.
- 5:28Speaker 9: And you know, good shooters have short memories, good teams
- 5:31Speaker 9: have short mambor. We've got to go put these next
- 5:33Speaker 9: few games ahead of us and make some hate.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Keep it for one night, but you got to you
- 5:38Speaker 5: got to come and compete in this league every night.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Any team can beat you on any given night if
- 5:42Speaker 6: you're not ready to play.
- 5:43Speaker 5: And you know, we weren't ready to play in the
- 5:45Speaker 5: first half or whatever reason to get off.
- 5:47Speaker 6: We didn't get off to a great start. But you
- 5:49Speaker 6: got to still continue to.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Work the game.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So where does that leave Texas's chances of making the
- 5:54Speaker 3: NCAA tournament.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Well nil.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Paint from the ESPN posts today a bracket bubble update
- 6:00Speaker 3: and list the Texas chances of making the tournament right
- 6:03Speaker 3: now at just fifty two percent. No paying rights to
- 6:07Speaker 3: the long runs, keep taking one step forward and then
- 6:09Speaker 3: two steps back. Had that huge win over Kentucky. After
- 6:13Speaker 3: entry that game on a three game losing three game
- 6:16Speaker 3: losing skid, but then losing to South Carolina in a
- 6:19Speaker 3: game that they were favored, they went from being a
- 6:22Speaker 3: sixty seven percent chance of making the tournament that just
- 6:24Speaker 3: fifty two percent. Net ranking is still in the thirties,
- 6:28Speaker 3: but the Texas Longhorn strength to record is barely top fifty.
- 6:32Speaker 3: They're three to nine against top fifty teams in South
- 6:35Speaker 3: Carolina delt them a second loss to teams outside the
- 6:38Speaker 3: top fifty, which won't help their case with the committee.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Texas now will take on Arkansas on Wednesday night, and
- 6:47Speaker 3: Arkansas comes in at just a forty three percent chance
- 6:52Speaker 3: of making the tournament. So this game tomorrow night not
- 6:55Speaker 3: only is a must I'm sorry, Wednesday night not only
- 6:57Speaker 3: a must win for Texas, also a must win for Arkansas,
- 7:01Speaker 3: who will be at home and already has beaten Texas.
- 7:05Speaker 3: So an Arkansas team that came out very physical, very
- 7:09Speaker 3: aggressive against the Longhorns at Moody Center earlier this season
- 7:13Speaker 3: had a double edgiit lead in that first half. Texas
- 7:16Speaker 3: was able to trim it down the single digits, but
- 7:18Speaker 3: Arkansas would eventually go on to win that game. So
- 7:20Speaker 3: it's an Arkansas team that probably is not afraid of Texas.
- 7:24Speaker 3: You know, we've already beat them before. We're at home,
- 7:27Speaker 3: we're on our court, and we got to win this game.
- 7:29Speaker 3: So that's going to be a real uphill bat for
- 7:32Speaker 3: the Longhorns.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Of course, Texas coming off lost South Carolina, maybe that
- 7:36Speaker 3: will lad a fire underneath them. You heard our tea
- 7:38Speaker 3: talk about having that sense of urgency. Taxes run out
- 7:40Speaker 3: of time here, it's only only four games with the
- 7:43Speaker 3: go in the season, and they are not a lot
- 7:46Speaker 3: for the tournament. And now four games left, and three
- 7:49Speaker 3: of the four games are playing against Oklahoma, Arkansas and
- 7:53Speaker 3: then Georgia. Those three teams are fighting for their tournament's lives.
- 7:57Speaker 3: They're fighting for the live to make the tournament. So
- 8:00Speaker 3: every game for me here now is a must win game,
- 8:02Speaker 3: not only for Texas but pretty much for the team
- 8:04Speaker 3: they're playing.
- 8:05Speaker 7: And the other game at Missippi State, you.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Know, a team that's been in the top twenty five
- 8:11Speaker 3: rankings all season long. A're gonna be hosting Texas at home.
- 8:15Speaker 3: You know, they're fighting for a better seed in the
- 8:17Speaker 3: conference tournament and also a better seed in the NCAA Tournament.
- 8:21Speaker 3: They're probably the only team on the Texas schedule that
- 8:23Speaker 3: has a lock for the NCAA Tournament. So Texas does
- 8:27Speaker 3: trouble ahead and it starts with Arkansas Wednesday night against
- 8:31Speaker 3: a very well coached Calipari team in the Arkansas Razorbacks.
- 8:35Speaker 3: They blasted Missouri was it last week? Were not really blasted,
- 8:42Speaker 3: but beating by seven at home. Came down to the
- 8:45Speaker 3: wire against Number one Auburn earlier in the week, lost
- 8:48Speaker 3: by ony seven points. So it's an Arkansas team that's
- 8:50Speaker 3: been you know, it's a very good team. It's a
- 8:53Speaker 3: tough conference. And I did not think their record when
- 8:56Speaker 3: they came in the Texas really indicated how much they
- 9:00Speaker 3: have on the team. I mean, they have a couple
- 9:02Speaker 3: of guards that gave the Longhorns back court some trouble.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Janelle Davis, the former FAU owl we went to the
- 9:09Speaker 3: final four before the Atlantic. He's fast, he's physical, six
- 9:15Speaker 3: foot four, you know, he's a big dude. And then
- 9:18Speaker 3: Dj Wagner, you know who transferred to Kentucky. He's also
- 9:21Speaker 3: six foot four, so the length in the size, in
- 9:25Speaker 3: the height of Arkansas's backcourt gave Texas a lot of trouble. Now,
- 9:29Speaker 3: one thing Texas didn't have Kendall Weaver in that first meeting.
- 9:32Speaker 1: It's Arkansas.
- 9:33Speaker 7: That's the key.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Ken Texas get Kendall Weaver back next week, and the
- 9:38Speaker 3: last thing we heard from Marte was he was still
- 9:40Speaker 3: out indefinitely. I think the hope was to get him
- 9:43Speaker 3: back last weekend and not get him back in time.
- 9:45Speaker 3: It's a hip luxure injury. So hopefully we'll get kend
- 9:48Speaker 3: the Weaver back on Wednesday night because Texas will definitely
- 9:50Speaker 3: need him against a really talented Arkansas backcourt. But just
- 9:55Speaker 3: four games up to go, Texas is in must win
- 9:58Speaker 3: Terry troth. They were already in it, but now well,
- 10:00Speaker 3: there is no margin for air. After the loss to
- 10:02Speaker 3: South Carolina last Saturday night mentioned the Texas women's basketball
- 10:07Speaker 3: number one for the first time in twenty one years,
- 10:11Speaker 3: will take on Georgia tonight. You can listen to that
- 10:13Speaker 3: on one O three to one, Austin's eighty station five
- 10:16Speaker 3: forty five airtimes six o'clock tip off. Roger Wallace and
- 10:19Speaker 3: Kathy Harston on the call. You can also watch the
- 10:23Speaker 3: game on SEC Network. We're through the first hour and
- 10:28Speaker 3: now almost the second hour. We'll be back to wrap
- 10:30Speaker 3: up hour two and we're gonna give away some tickets.
- 10:34Speaker 3: So stay tuned to that and get that iHeart app
- 10:37Speaker 3: ready for a chance to win. Greig Wait show continues
- 10:40Speaker 3: after this. Okay, let's pivot from college athletics to the NFL.
- 10:46Speaker 3: What is the most popular or sorry, let me rephrase it.
- 10:50Speaker 3: What is the most polarizing play in the NFL?
- 10:52Speaker 1: Right now?
- 10:53Speaker 3: It's a touch push, right, or if you're an Eagles fan,
- 10:57Speaker 3: you might call it the brotherly chef Well, an NFL
- 11:01Speaker 3: team that has been identified by the Athletic as the
- 11:05Speaker 3: Green Bay Packers have submitted a role proposal to ban
- 11:09Speaker 3: the tush push a quarterback sneak. On Monday, Troy Vincent,
- 11:15Speaker 3: the NFL's executive vice president of football Operations, told reporters
- 11:19Speaker 3: so they had the scouting Combine that a team, which
- 11:22Speaker 3: he did not identify, had made the proposal during a
- 11:27Speaker 3: break in between meetings between the NFL officials and the
- 11:29Speaker 3: Competition Committee. To the Washington post in the NFL Network. Now,
- 11:33Speaker 3: the Athletic came out about twenty five minutes ago that
- 11:37Speaker 3: it was Green Bay that.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Has submitted the role change. So how does this work?
- 11:41Speaker 3: Well, NFL owners could vote on the proposal next month
- 11:44Speaker 3: at the spring owners meeting in Paul Meats, Florida, unless
- 11:47Speaker 3: the Packers decide to withdraw its proposal. If it goes
- 11:51Speaker 3: to a vote, twenty four of the NFL's thirty two
- 11:55Speaker 3: owners would have to vote in favor for it to pass.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Keyboard his owners, it's not coaches, it's not players, it's
- 12:03Speaker 3: NFL owners have to vote. So twenty four of the
- 12:07Speaker 3: thirty two NFL team the owners have to vote in
- 12:09Speaker 3: favor for the rule to pash to pass. Oh, pash,
- 12:14Speaker 3: pash rush, Little Collins Wort there teams all. You know,
- 12:16Speaker 3: every season we have teams voting for different rule proposals
- 12:19Speaker 3: each year. Last season was what the the hip drop
- 12:23Speaker 3: tackle rule that was made illegal. Well, we see the
- 12:28Speaker 3: tush push become illegal. Troy Vincent said, we do have
- 12:31Speaker 3: a club playing rule proposal around the tush push. It's
- 12:35Speaker 3: the way they deemed it, the tush push. It's on
- 12:37Speaker 3: our agenda. The club proposal is we need to make
- 12:40Speaker 3: some adjustments to that. Is that a viable football play?
- 12:44Speaker 3: End quote Now, this rule or this this play has
- 12:49Speaker 3: been examined by the NFL and the Competition Compittee Committee
- 12:53Speaker 3: in the last two seasons, but no action has been taken.
- 12:57Speaker 3: The Eagles and the Bills have combined to run the
- 12:59Speaker 3: tush push or the quarterback sneak one hundred and sixty
- 13:02Speaker 3: three times in which they deem this play in which
- 13:06Speaker 3: a team lines up one or more players behind the
- 13:08Speaker 3: quarterback to push them forward against the defense. Keyword, there
- 13:13Speaker 3: is one or more players. So not just a quarterback
- 13:16Speaker 3: and I formation or sorry, quarterback in the gun by himself.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's when you have a running back, a full back,
- 13:23Speaker 3: of tight end. The Eagles usually have Hurts behind center
- 13:26Speaker 3: and then you got what two tight ends and then
- 13:27Speaker 3: a running back behind them, so you got four guys
- 13:29Speaker 3: in the backfield. That's their version of the tousch push.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Now the role change here is one or more players
- 13:37Speaker 3: behind the quarterback. Out of these past three seasons, the
- 13:41Speaker 3: Eagles and Bills have run the play the most of
- 13:42Speaker 3: the NFL combined. They've scored a touchdown or achieved a
- 13:45Speaker 3: first down on this play. Eighty seven percent of the time,
- 13:49Speaker 3: while the rest of the NFL has been successful in
- 13:51Speaker 3: just seventy one percent of the time. Of course, remember
- 13:55Speaker 3: when the Eagles played the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. Frankieluvu,
- 14:00Speaker 3: the former Panthers linebacker now and the Commanders what He
- 14:05Speaker 3: jumped over the Eagles offensive line twice to try and
- 14:07Speaker 3: stop the play. Sean Hockyley came out and said that
- 14:09Speaker 3: he did it a third time. They were gonna get
- 14:11Speaker 3: Philadelphia touchdown. Before the Super Bowl. Nick Sirianni, the Eagles
- 14:16Speaker 3: head coach, noted that and he said it in a statement,
- 14:18Speaker 3: the success that we have had is not always replicated
- 14:21Speaker 3: throughout the entire league. Added, I'm lobbying to never change
- 14:25Speaker 3: that role just because we're successful at it. Vincey would
- 14:29Speaker 3: also say in the NFL Network quote hip drop and
- 14:31Speaker 3: the tush push were in the same conversation three years ago.
- 14:35Speaker 3: A year ago, we felt like, let's just focus in
- 14:38Speaker 3: on the hip drop tackle and the tush push. Just say, hey,
- 14:42Speaker 3: the Eagles, they do it better than everybody else. But
- 14:44Speaker 3: there are some concerns. Our Health and Safety Committee has
- 14:48Speaker 3: laid out today with a brief conversation on the injury report.
- 14:51Speaker 3: There's some challenges, some concerns that they'll share with a
- 14:54Speaker 3: broader group tomorrow with the toush push will become a
- 14:57Speaker 3: topic of discussion moving into March. End quote Again, the
- 15:00Speaker 3: Packers could withdraw this role proposal, but if they do not,
- 15:06Speaker 3: it will go to a vote in March, and again
- 15:08Speaker 3: twenty four to thirty two NFL owners have to agree
- 15:11Speaker 3: to ban it. This could have some huge implications going
- 15:15Speaker 3: forward because it's not just the Eagles and the Bills.
- 15:19Speaker 3: It's the quarterback sneak and based on the verbia's here,
- 15:23Speaker 3: it's when one or more players line up behind the
- 15:25Speaker 3: quarterback to push them forward. So now some quarterback sneaks
- 15:29Speaker 3: right under center and you go, that's it. But the
- 15:33Speaker 3: Eagles and the Bills have turned it into where you
- 15:35Speaker 3: got the you know, two tight ends, running back, full back, whatever,
- 15:39Speaker 3: and they're the ones that end up kind of, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 3: helping the quarterback push forward across the line. Now, I
- 15:45Speaker 3: think the only angle in which this could you know,
- 15:47Speaker 3: really get taken away is the health side of it, right,
- 15:50Speaker 3: is this is this play jeopardizing the health of the
- 15:54Speaker 3: offensive lineman, the quarterback defensive lineman. I mean, that's what
- 15:57Speaker 3: happened with the hip drop tackle, right, all these roles
- 16:00Speaker 3: surrounding the health and safety of the quarterbacks and the players,
- 16:02Speaker 3: you know, with the hip drop tackle and head the
- 16:05Speaker 3: head contact. Only way I can see this play getting
- 16:10Speaker 3: becoming illegal is if they focus in on the health
- 16:13Speaker 3: safety part of it. Right, if maybe the NFL Competition
- 16:18Speaker 3: Committee comes in and says, hey, we're finding out the
- 16:20Speaker 3: players are getting injured running this play. But so far
- 16:23Speaker 3: we have not had that data. And I do not
- 16:25Speaker 3: know if we're going to get that data. And I
- 16:27Speaker 3: do not think this rule will be overturned or this
- 16:30Speaker 3: play will be turned into an illegal play. My thoughts
- 16:32Speaker 3: on it, just stop it, you know. It's how what's
- 16:36Speaker 3: different between that and quarterback and a running back run. Like,
- 16:40Speaker 3: if you can't stop it, you can't stop it. I
- 16:42Speaker 3: understand it's probably maybe it's a little bit boring, right
- 16:45Speaker 3: fourth and one hurt, So here we go. They're going
- 16:47Speaker 3: to get it. I mean, it's not one hundred percent
- 16:49Speaker 3: of the time. They get it. Eighty seven percent of
- 16:51Speaker 3: the time according to ESPN research. But I think you
- 16:54Speaker 3: just got to figure out a way to stop it.
- 16:56Speaker 3: That's just part of the game. So we'll see what
- 16:58Speaker 3: will happen with this. It does are this will go
- 17:00Speaker 3: to vote sometime in March with the NFL owners. Okay,
- 17:06Speaker 3: let's continue with some more baseball conversation. I promised we
- 17:10Speaker 3: would get to Jim Sloschningles postgame interview with Keith Mortlanter.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Texas swept Dartmouth yesterday on the baseball field that UFCU
- 17:18Speaker 3: Dishwalk field after two just bad days of weather. We
- 17:22Speaker 3: finally got some sunshine yesterday after near freezing temperatures on
- 17:26Speaker 3: Friday and Saturday, but Texas improving to four and one,
- 17:30Speaker 3: and what stood out was the pitching. Freshman left handed
- 17:33Speaker 3: pitcher Dylan Falants pitched four and two thirds scoreless his
- 17:38Speaker 3: first career win. Balantis retired twelve of the thirteen batters
- 17:44Speaker 3: he faced and retired the first eight he faced. Flants
- 17:48Speaker 3: by the way six foot six, two hundred and twelve pounds.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Eithan Mendoza, with three for four, had that solo home
- 17:54Speaker 3: run and two runs batted in. That fifteening solo shot
- 17:58Speaker 3: was pround to be the co run off the right field.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Foul Pole then added another insurance run in the eighth inning.
- 18:05Speaker 3: With a RBI single. He's had some fantastic plays at
- 18:09Speaker 3: second basement Defensively, Mendoza also got the third base off
- 18:15Speaker 3: of era by Dartmouth Tier Rodriguez and then Max Blue
- 18:21Speaker 3: would follow that with an run scoring base hit to
- 18:23Speaker 3: tie it up one apiece. Kate Being scoring or pitching
- 18:28Speaker 3: the first four in a third innings no decision on
- 18:30Speaker 3: him being allowed one run off a two hit, struck
- 18:33Speaker 3: out two batters. A good bounce back performance for Kate
- 18:36Speaker 3: being who started it against Oklahoma State last Sunday, and
- 18:39Speaker 3: I think coach loss said that he was just too
- 18:41Speaker 3: fired up too much drennine, but a much much improved
- 18:45Speaker 3: outing on Sunday against Dartmouth, allowing only just one run
- 18:52Speaker 3: in his second start of the season. Max blou By
- 18:54Speaker 3: the way reached four times. Adrian Rodriguez registered his third
- 19:00Speaker 3: multi hit game the last four contests. He's playing fantastic
- 19:04Speaker 3: baseball in Texas. Now looks to take on incarnate word
- 19:08Speaker 3: and improve to five and one and keep that windstreak
- 19:11Speaker 3: going after the game, and I apologize the first part
- 19:14Speaker 3: of this interview a little shoppy between coach Tim Slashnagle
- 19:18Speaker 3: and Keith Mullen, but here Slash and Keith Mullen after
- 19:21Speaker 3: the win yesterday at the dish, a.
- 19:23Speaker 10: Couple of thanks great fans, a good day, and he
- 19:27Speaker 10: canted it all starts with me of what happened coming
- 19:29Speaker 10: out of.
- 19:30Speaker 8: Your bull fan, I was just an outstanding performance.
- 19:32Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, first of all, thanks to the fans
- 19:34Speaker 11: coming out as the first days Paul Park times on
- 19:38Speaker 11: the other end, out on a pretty day with the
- 19:41Speaker 11: Fishfalk fans, you know, being awesome, great today. But yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 11: milanis he's good man, No, he's special. Just trying to
- 19:49Speaker 11: do everything with Ken. You know, I got to use
- 19:51Speaker 11: my experience and our experience on trying to set a
- 19:55Speaker 11: freshman picture up for success in.
- 19:56Speaker 1: The sec you know.
- 19:57Speaker 11: And uh, you know, just trying to get the right
- 20:01Speaker 11: role for him to start the year, to give him
- 20:03Speaker 11: some confidence and you know.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Maybe he can do some other things later in the year.
- 20:06Speaker 10: Yeah, and then you know you've rested a guy yesterday.
- 20:08Speaker 10: He comes back today, has a magnificent performance in Sega
- 20:11Speaker 10: base It's the ball, the ballpert when you look at Mendoza,
- 20:14Speaker 10: look at and you're just trying to find each guy's
- 20:16Speaker 10: spot so far.
- 20:18Speaker 11: Yeah, you're just trying to figure out who can do
- 20:19Speaker 11: what You're trying to give guys opportunities like we did
- 20:22Speaker 11: with Bor but yesterday, you know, I'd like to get
- 20:25Speaker 11: do plant a Jayden in there some you know, and
- 20:29Speaker 11: you're trying to also, you know, the guys that have
- 20:31Speaker 11: proven it at some level in the past, or or
- 20:33Speaker 11: have the actual physical skills, like like in Easton Winfield,
- 20:36Speaker 11: like trying to give him as much rope as he
- 20:38Speaker 11: can because I've seen him do it, I've seen him
- 20:40Speaker 11: be great. And you you you especially know how this game,
- 20:44Speaker 11: when you want to do so well, you can over try.
- 20:47Speaker 11: And then when that starts out and then it doesn't
- 20:49Speaker 11: matter who you're facing, you can't.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You it's o to when you wake up in the
- 20:52Speaker 1: morning and you know that.
- 20:53Speaker 10: It's so important to have victories and do things, but
- 20:56Speaker 10: it's got to be fun as well.
- 20:58Speaker 1: And then that's one of the things you're talking about.
- 21:00Speaker 8: You just relax.
- 21:01Speaker 1: When you have fun, you can be successful.
- 21:03Speaker 11: Yeah, you're certainly had My challenge in the team before
- 21:05Speaker 11: the game was you know, how would you play this
- 21:07Speaker 11: game if you were in Little League? I mean you
- 21:08Speaker 11: would just play a care free and really one of
- 21:11Speaker 11: the only guys on our team that does it right
- 21:12Speaker 11: now is the guy who should be the least care
- 21:15Speaker 11: free and next Rodriguez because he's never played before him.
- 21:17Speaker 1: But he's just playing.
- 21:18Speaker 4: You know, he's just playing. If he makes a mistake,
- 21:21Speaker 4: moves on. Other guys were just you know, they're super pressing.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And then you know last week was was awesome.
- 21:26Speaker 11: But you can see how this game can flip around
- 21:28Speaker 11: on your heartbeat thinking as we pitch and play a defense. Well,
- 21:31Speaker 11: Congressions of the Victor will season two tonight right thanks,
- 21:33Speaker 11: Youth Texas back in action tomorrow night at the dish
- 21:36Speaker 11: six fifteen Eritime six thirty.
- 21:38Speaker 3: First pitch. It's a Longhorn's host the University of Incarnate
- 21:43Speaker 3: Word at the dish. Okay, up next, Craig Way, we'll
- 21:47Speaker 3: call into the show get his thoughts on this past
- 21:49Speaker 3: weekend here as we continue our number three of this
- 21:52Speaker 3: Monday program.
- 21:53Speaker 7: And it's good afternoon, Creig.
- 21:54Speaker 4: How you doing, Hey, I'll be home for one night.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Good night. Isn't that a great thing? You know? I
- 22:01Speaker 4: had somebody asked me this morning in Arlington.
- 22:04Speaker 12: What.
- 22:06Speaker 4: You have a busy schedule right now? As wow, Yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 4: because we have the overlap between men's and women's basketball
- 22:12Speaker 4: and baseball and some other events. They said, well, what
- 22:15Speaker 4: would a typical week look like. I said, well, no
- 22:19Speaker 4: week is typical. They're all different. I said, For example,
- 22:22Speaker 4: I said today, I said, I mean, if you go
- 22:24Speaker 4: back to Saturday, there was the game in South Carolina
- 22:27Speaker 4: and came back and we got back about two fifteen
- 22:31Speaker 4: in the morning, and then there was a new baseball game,
- 22:34Speaker 4: so I had that, and I drove up to Darlington
- 22:35Speaker 4: last night to him see the leadership summit, which is
- 22:40Speaker 4: a fabulous event, and went up to do that and
- 22:44Speaker 4: did that today and driving back tonight, and then tomorrow
- 22:48Speaker 4: I'll fly with men's basketball the Padel, Arkansas and they'll
- 22:51Speaker 4: play Wednesday, and then I'll come back late late Wednesday night,
- 22:55Speaker 4: and then Thursday I will do Long Worn Weekly, which
- 23:00Speaker 4: with Rodney Terry, but andrews Imma will sit in on
- 23:03Speaker 4: the show for me because I have to repack and
- 23:08Speaker 4: recheck basketball and baseball equipment and then get that to
- 23:14Speaker 4: the airport, then come back, do the show, then go
- 23:17Speaker 4: to the airport and play to Las Vegas to do
- 23:20Speaker 4: the Privy baseball game against Washington Man. We'll be back
- 23:23Speaker 4: on a five am Saturday flight and then we have
- 23:26Speaker 4: men's basketball Saturday night against Georgia and women's basketball Sunday
- 23:30Speaker 4: against Florida, and then Monday you'll be with me. We'll
- 23:32Speaker 4: fly to start Bill for a Tuesday night men's game
- 23:35Speaker 4: Assissippi State. So anyway, Yeah, the road goes on and
- 23:39Speaker 4: the party never ends. As Robert Earl Keen would say, right, I.
- 23:43Speaker 7: Listed the events happening with Texas this week.
- 23:46Speaker 3: There is literally something happening every single day this week,
- 23:49Speaker 3: and I'm not sure we've had it before because we
- 23:51Speaker 3: have a women's basketball game to night, baseball game tomorrow,
- 23:54Speaker 3: men's basketball Wednesday, women's basketball and Longhorn weekly, Thursday, softball
- 23:59Speaker 3: and baseball, Saturday, softball and baseball, men's basketball, sorry, softball,
- 24:03Speaker 3: baseball Friday, softball, men's basketball, baseball Saturday, and then Sunday
- 24:09Speaker 3: women's basketball, baseball and softball.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Well, you've heard me from referred to it as the overlap,
- 24:19Speaker 4: and it's really overlap Roman numberald two because the first
- 24:25Speaker 4: one starts about.
- 24:28Speaker 1: The tenth of November.
- 24:29Speaker 4: It actually started the fourth this year early to start
- 24:33Speaker 4: ever for men's basketball when we were out in Las Vegas.
- 24:36Speaker 4: But it usually starts around the tenth of February tenth
- 24:39Speaker 4: of November, and then usually ends up about mid to
- 24:44Speaker 4: late late December, usually for the bowl game. But now
- 24:47Speaker 4: football of course went all the way to January kienth
- 24:51Speaker 4: with a Cotton Bowl, so you had that. So that
- 24:53Speaker 4: was between football and men's women's basketball. And then the
- 24:57Speaker 4: second overlap usually starts around Valentine's weekend, and it did
- 25:03Speaker 4: with baseball joining men's and women's basketball, and that goes
- 25:06Speaker 4: for a solid six weeks up until about the end
- 25:09Speaker 4: of March. If basketball is really successful, obviously the women
- 25:13Speaker 4: have a chance to make a deep, deep run in
- 25:15Speaker 4: the tournament. We'll see about the men if they can
- 25:18Speaker 4: get in and what they can do from there. But
- 25:21Speaker 4: you know, it runs so anyway, it's a big part
- 25:25Speaker 4: of you know why I got into the business on
- 25:29Speaker 4: back way back when I was in college in the eighties.
- 25:32Speaker 4: I love games. I like to be at the game.
- 25:36Speaker 4: For anybody to ask if I love the travel, the
- 25:38Speaker 4: answer is no, because it does get to be a drain.
- 25:42Speaker 4: I like some of the cities and destinations we go to,
- 25:46Speaker 4: but the travel itself can be a bit of a grind.
- 25:49Speaker 4: But anyway, it's all part of the job. It's part
- 25:52Speaker 4: of the deal and it's what I signed up for,
- 25:55Speaker 4: so I'm fine with it.
- 25:56Speaker 3: So basically, for the next month or so, there's gonna
- 25:59Speaker 3: be a lot of days were Andrew Zimmle, He'll be
- 26:01Speaker 3: filling in for you and myself.
- 26:05Speaker 4: There's a reason he's the six man. Uh, you know.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And and even though and let me say this, and
- 26:10Speaker 4: today's an example, Uh, even though there week days when
- 26:14Speaker 4: I'll be out of the studio, uh, in all probability,
- 26:19Speaker 4: in most of those days, I'll be checking in for
- 26:21Speaker 4: like a segment or two whatever, like like right now.
- 26:24Speaker 4: So there's place that. Now, Tomorrow is gonna be difficult
- 26:27Speaker 4: because because of the takeoff in the afternoon, So I'll
- 26:30Speaker 4: probably miss out on Tomorrow. But Winsday obviously I'll I'll
- 26:35Speaker 4: be on. I'll check in from Fayettville and then and
- 26:38Speaker 4: then I've got art show on Thursday from Pluckers and
- 26:43Speaker 4: uh and then Fridy will be in Las Vegas and
- 26:45Speaker 4: hopefully I'll be at the mall park and hooked up
- 26:47Speaker 4: and check in there. But see, and that's part of
- 26:51Speaker 4: this whole thing, Cameron. And You've learned this now as
- 26:54Speaker 4: an engineer producer about more than just going to the destination.
- 26:59Speaker 4: You got to make sure that you're at the facility,
- 27:01Speaker 4: that you've got what you need and test and hook
- 27:04Speaker 4: up and so on and so forth. And for men's
- 27:09Speaker 4: basketball and for football, we have engineers to do that,
- 27:11Speaker 4: and you're the engineer, primary engineer on men's basketball, women's basketball,
- 27:16Speaker 4: and baseball. We're kind of a one man man now.
- 27:18Speaker 4: In the case of the Thursday for you and Roger
- 27:22Speaker 4: that's in Starkville, Roger will have the luxury of having
- 27:27Speaker 4: you alongside the engineer and be the analyst. But by
- 27:30Speaker 4: and large, when we go on the road to do
- 27:32Speaker 4: a women's game or a baseball game, it's down to
- 27:35Speaker 4: us to make sure we get things soaked up. But
- 27:37Speaker 4: I'm used to it. I mean, we've been doing it
- 27:38Speaker 4: a long time and so that's okay. So there's definitely
- 27:41Speaker 4: not a complaint. It's just it's a statement of how
- 27:44Speaker 4: the routine is, and you get into the routine and
- 27:47Speaker 4: you do what you gotta do.
- 27:49Speaker 3: A busy weekend on the baseball front men's basketball as well.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Of course, you traveled to Columbia, South Carolina. Not the
- 27:55Speaker 3: result Texas wanted to see, neither the rt But I'll
- 27:58Speaker 3: call of lead it up to you, Craig, what do
- 27:59Speaker 3: you to get to first and kind of what was
- 28:01Speaker 3: your biggest takeaway from both the Jim's lost angles home
- 28:04Speaker 3: opening weekend a swee with Dartmouth and then Texas men's
- 28:07Speaker 3: basketball really hurting their chances of making the tournament with
- 28:09Speaker 3: the loss of South Carolina.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Well, we can start chronologically, uh, And you experienced it
- 28:17Speaker 4: firsthand on Saturday, Keith and Roger experienced it on Friday
- 28:21Speaker 4: as I was traveling at Columbia, and that was just
- 28:23Speaker 4: mind numbing cold. And listen, I always lean on what
- 28:28Speaker 4: Key says Ufcu. Deshawk Field can be singularly the coldest
- 28:32Speaker 4: place on the planet and the hottest place in the
- 28:35Speaker 4: same season, because you start in February when that north
- 28:38Speaker 4: wind kicks in, and if you've got any kind of precipitation,
- 28:41Speaker 4: it can be like that. And it was miserable on
- 28:45Speaker 4: Tuesday from when they couldn't play the game, and then uh,
- 28:49Speaker 4: and then it was bad again obviously on Friday, but
- 28:52Speaker 4: it was just mainly and largely cold and then and
- 28:56Speaker 4: then obviously it was better on Sunday. Long words, did
- 28:59Speaker 4: what they had to do to get the win and
- 29:03Speaker 4: to get to win in all three cases, and they
- 29:05Speaker 4: nixed some good pitching in with enough enough timely hitting
- 29:10Speaker 4: to garner all three wins. Now, clearly Schloss is looking
- 29:13Speaker 4: for more out of his offense, but they did enough
- 29:16Speaker 4: to do that take a step forward. We'll see if
- 29:19Speaker 4: they take another step forward tomorrow when they play UI
- 29:21Speaker 4: W Before they had the Las Vegas because they're gonna
- 29:24Speaker 4: get tested by Washington, they're gonna get tested clearly by
- 29:29Speaker 4: Texas Tech, and they're gonna get tested by Illinois, so
- 29:32Speaker 4: you ramp up in your tests. And then they have
- 29:35Speaker 4: one more home non conference series that'll be Santa Clara,
- 29:38Speaker 4: and then you're in the belly of the beast. You
- 29:40Speaker 4: start off with duty Noble there in Starkville against Mississippi State,
- 29:44Speaker 4: and that's gonna be quite.
- 29:46Speaker 1: A test with him.
- 29:47Speaker 4: So you had that in between that. On Saturday was
- 29:50Speaker 4: the men's basketball game at Columbia, and I'm sure I
- 29:54Speaker 4: saw it with my own eyes that Rodney Terry and
- 29:57Speaker 4: his staff have been just pouring over every detail, going back,
- 30:03Speaker 4: looking every cut up digital video of that deal. They
- 30:06Speaker 4: were doing it on the plane. We didn't get home
- 30:07Speaker 4: until to fifteen in the morning, late late late Saturday, night,
- 30:11Speaker 4: and they were all in it, but they are every
- 30:13Speaker 4: game win or lose. If they were diving into it
- 30:16Speaker 4: to find out why it wasn't there. The level of
- 30:19Speaker 4: physicality they needed wasn't there. South Carolina Robbie been mourning
- 30:25Speaker 4: everybody about it. I'd said something about it. They were better,
- 30:28Speaker 4: but that the record, you know, Bill Parcell says your
- 30:30Speaker 4: record you are, which your record says you are. They
- 30:32Speaker 4: were all with thirteen in the conference, but if you
- 30:34Speaker 4: look behind the numbers, they had lost six of those
- 30:37Speaker 4: games by a combined twenty points. Lost in Florida by
- 30:40Speaker 4: one point, in Florida down fourteen in the second half,
- 30:43Speaker 4: they lost to A and M. I think by a
- 30:45Speaker 4: narrow margin. They lost to Auber by four. So they
- 30:49Speaker 4: were right there in some games, but they hadn't got
- 30:51Speaker 4: over the hump. But if you gave them a door
- 30:53Speaker 4: to walk through, especially with an NBA caliber player that
- 30:57Speaker 4: they have at power board, they could want for it.
- 31:00Speaker 4: And they did, and so it did put Texas at
- 31:03Speaker 4: a tough spot. Now, I wouldn't say they're on the
- 31:06Speaker 4: outside looking in, and I think Toelnardi will do another
- 31:09Speaker 4: update tomorrow. But remember they were at the top of
- 31:13Speaker 4: the last four byes. I think at the very least
- 31:17Speaker 4: they may slide them to the bottom of the last
- 31:19Speaker 4: four buys or they might be in the last four
- 31:21Speaker 4: in What does that all mean, I don't know, but
- 31:24Speaker 4: I know this. They have four games left, two at home,
- 31:28Speaker 4: two on the road. Without question, they need to win
- 31:31Speaker 4: the two home games because Georgia and Oklahoma are in
- 31:34Speaker 4: a worse predicament than the log warns. And if they
- 31:37Speaker 4: could find a way to win on Wednesday and Fayetteville
- 31:40Speaker 4: or the game in Starkville would be good because they
- 31:43Speaker 4: both beat Q one wins. I would submit to you that
- 31:46Speaker 4: Arkansas is still in a little more of a dire
- 31:48Speaker 4: predicament than Texas, but they're playing that right now. And
- 31:53Speaker 4: got that big road win at Missouri that was important
- 31:56Speaker 4: for them, and they played Auburn tough, and of course
- 31:58Speaker 4: they beat Texas by eight and Austin that was one
- 32:01Speaker 4: of those games where they won the physical battle. So
- 32:04Speaker 4: I bet that's being preached and coached here starting yesterday
- 32:08Speaker 4: and then today it'll be tomorrow as well, because this
- 32:12Speaker 4: is gonna be a tough challenge. On Wednesday night in Fayettville.
- 32:16Speaker 3: And three of the four teams they finished the season
- 32:18Speaker 3: against are all in the bubble Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia. So
- 32:24Speaker 3: Texas is battling those three teams for a tournament spot perhaps,
- 32:28Speaker 3: and one way to make sure to make the tournament
- 32:30Speaker 3: is by beating those three teams. So for Texas, these
- 32:33Speaker 3: next four games, I don't know if each single one
- 32:36Speaker 3: is a must win, Craig, but you think you got
- 32:39Speaker 3: to go possibly at least three and one in the season, Well,
- 32:43Speaker 3: it would.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Make a big difference if they could do that, I
- 32:45Speaker 4: would tell you that. And if they go to and
- 32:49Speaker 4: two and only win the home games, they're probably going
- 32:52Speaker 4: to have to win a game that you might not
- 32:54Speaker 4: expect them to win in Nashville at the tournament to
- 32:57Speaker 4: get him in, or they might wind up in Date
- 32:59Speaker 4: in the first or something like that. Here's the other
- 33:01Speaker 4: thing about all that can And you know this, not
- 33:04Speaker 4: only does ESPN do a bubble watch and CBS Sports
- 33:08Speaker 4: does that at USA today, I look at several bracket
- 33:13Speaker 4: of logical prognostications all the time, and there's always a
- 33:18Speaker 4: bubble watch. Well I've been watching that over the weekend.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Now I know for a lot of longhorn pants it
- 33:24Speaker 4: doesn't resonate with them. They're not looking at other teams,
- 33:27Speaker 4: but I'm watching how teams like wake Forest and SME
- 33:33Speaker 4: and some other teams lawns and so that makes a
- 33:36Speaker 4: big difference if some other bubble teams are suffering misports.
- 33:40Speaker 4: But you still have to handle your own business to
- 33:42Speaker 4: make it work.
- 33:44Speaker 7: He is Craig Way.
- 33:45Speaker 3: He is on the road again, and we'll be on
- 33:47Speaker 3: the road again tomorrow and on Wednesday, and on Thursday
- 33:50Speaker 3: and on Friday and pretty much every other day from
- 33:53Speaker 3: here on out until ju And hey, Greg.
- 33:55Speaker 7: I will not see you tomorrow. I will not see
- 33:57Speaker 7: you until next week.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Perhaps.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's that's entirely possible. You might have, By
- 34:08Speaker 4: the way, one quick word I want to say about
- 34:10Speaker 4: this leadership summit that I am seen. It's a great
- 34:13Speaker 4: event in high school coaches from all over the state
- 34:16Speaker 4: come in and it's a chance to hear some of
- 34:19Speaker 4: the Stinger speech speakers. There's one speaker named Steve Jones
- 34:24Speaker 4: who spoke today, and he's really, really inspirational, and he
- 34:29Speaker 4: sounded like he sounded like a guy that would be
- 34:33Speaker 4: just like what a guy like Kim las Legal would
- 34:36Speaker 4: need or somebody else who would need a motivational guy
- 34:42Speaker 4: to help guys steer away from fear. Come to find out,
- 34:46Speaker 4: the guy is on Matt Lafore staff at Green Bay
- 34:48Speaker 4: as a consultant. He has an office, uh and so,
- 34:51Speaker 4: and he's written the best selling book called The Two
- 34:55Speaker 4: Thieves about and the Thieves are the negative feelings that
- 34:59Speaker 4: have a fear of failure and the peer of the
- 35:02Speaker 4: of the negative criticism you get from that. It was
- 35:05Speaker 4: really really unique and inspiring stuff about all them. Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Well, we know Slash hired Brian Kane who is kind
- 35:12Speaker 3: of like a mental performance coach who he has a
- 35:15Speaker 3: book I think called a Mental Performance Mastery. So we're
- 35:18Speaker 3: seeing coaches in the sports world kind of gravitates to
- 35:22Speaker 3: bringing on mental coaches to help, you know, strengthen up
- 35:25Speaker 3: the mental aspect their players in their locker room.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're seeing the mental side. Sark has always
- 35:32Speaker 4: said that he has really been intrigued by the mental
- 35:36Speaker 4: side of the game, of psychological side of the game.
- 35:39Speaker 4: And that's a lot of what that that that education
- 35:44Speaker 4: summit is that leadership summit. It's about fostering leaders of
- 35:48Speaker 4: coaches and what they're trying to uncover in their student
- 35:54Speaker 4: athletes to try to inspire them to do bigger and
- 35:57Speaker 4: better things. It's a really great event.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Last thing for you, BUCkies, check stop where are you
- 36:03Speaker 3: stopping at before you get home to Georgetown, Texas.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Well, I just made a stop at Starbucks a few
- 36:11Speaker 4: minutes ago. I was feeling a little tired, so I
- 36:14Speaker 4: got an espresso trappaccino and that all to be able
- 36:17Speaker 4: to get me all the way back to northern Williamson County.
- 36:22Speaker 3: All right, well, hey, we will see you, I think
- 36:24Speaker 3: next Monday, and we'll get on a plane the Starkville
- 36:27Speaker 3: so safe travels to Vadeville.
- 36:30Speaker 7: Keep an eye on Eddie Orn for me and best
- 36:32Speaker 7: wishes this week.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks, And I'll check in with Zimmel and and
- 36:39Speaker 4: then obviously we'll hope for the best for basketball and
- 36:41Speaker 4: then baseball tomorrow night against UIW with Roger and Keith.
- 36:44Speaker 4: And like you say, it's it's going onward and upward
- 36:48Speaker 4: now as we kind of head Ford March.
- 36:50Speaker 7: It's the busy time. All right, Craig, we'll see him.
- 36:54Speaker 3: You bet you can hear Craig Wednesday night as Texas
- 36:57Speaker 3: takes on Arkansas and Fayetteville.
- 36:59Speaker 7: He will not be on The Craigway Show this week.
- 37:01Speaker 3: It will be Andrew Simmo starting tomorrow through Friday, and
- 37:06Speaker 3: then next Monday will also be out because well, Craig
- 37:08Speaker 3: and I will be in Starkfille, Mississippi, as Texas takes
- 37:11Speaker 3: on the Bulldogs. So Craig will be gone from the
- 37:14Speaker 3: Craigway Show for a little bit. I believe next Wednesday
- 37:18Speaker 3: we both will be in studio, but we'll have to
- 37:20Speaker 3: double check our travel schedules. We'll continue here on this
- 37:24Speaker 3: Monday afternoon on thirteen hundred the Zone, and we're back.
- 37:32Speaker 8: To the Craigway Show.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Have a message for Craig, share it by using the
- 37:37Speaker 2: talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Thanks to Craig Wave for.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Calling in on his journey back from Arlington, Texas to Austin, Texas.
- 37:46Speaker 3: A short journey, a short stay in Austin. He's gonna
- 37:49Speaker 3: be here for one night, and then the men's basketball
- 37:51Speaker 3: team of Texas travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas. Speaking of traveling,
- 37:56Speaker 3: our own Roger Wallace is joining us from Things Georgia
- 38:00Speaker 3: as a Texas women's basketball team takes on the Bulldogs
- 38:03Speaker 3: tonight five forty five pm airtime, six o'clock tip off
- 38:07Speaker 3: from Athens, Georgia, and in the break Roger and I
- 38:10Speaker 3: we were discussing. Now Craig makes his stop on the road,
- 38:14Speaker 3: usually it's going to be a Starbucks. But Roger Wallace,
- 38:17Speaker 3: I think you would have stopped somewhere differently.
- 38:19Speaker 12: Well, we figured out at least I think I know
- 38:21Speaker 12: where he stopped. And he'll go to Starbucks and I'll
- 38:24Speaker 12: run across the parking lot and I'll go over to QT.
- 38:27Speaker 8: I get the cold drink. He likes to get the
- 38:28Speaker 8: warmer drink.
- 38:30Speaker 12: But yeah, we we spent a lot of time on
- 38:31Speaker 12: the road together and kind of getting in each other's
- 38:34Speaker 12: rhythm of what we like. But yeah, we've done that
- 38:37Speaker 12: more than a couple of times.
- 38:39Speaker 7: And your cold drink diet coke.
- 38:41Speaker 12: Right, yeah, yeah, I'm ashamed to say too much of it,
- 38:44Speaker 12: but you know, everybody's got to.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Have some vice.
- 38:46Speaker 3: It's not a nice coffee, it's not a mocha frappe,
- 38:50Speaker 3: it's a diet coke.
- 38:51Speaker 12: It's all about the ice. CAM got to get the
- 38:53Speaker 12: good crushed ice.
- 38:54Speaker 3: So Texas takes on Georgia tonight, and Texas finds themselves
- 38:59Speaker 3: the top the polls for the first time in twenty
- 39:01Speaker 3: one years. Roger course with Notre Dame losing the NC
- 39:03Speaker 3: State and overtime. I'm curious. I don't know if you
- 39:06Speaker 3: guys had landed yet by the time in NC State
- 39:09Speaker 3: to pull off the upset, But did Vic Shaffer and
- 39:12Speaker 3: his staff make any note about be number one yesterday
- 39:15Speaker 3: or today leading up to this game?
- 39:17Speaker 12: You know, It's funny because yeah, we left kind of late,
- 39:19Speaker 12: so the game was over. But I talked to Vic
- 39:21Speaker 12: last night after their shoot around and you know, asked him,
- 39:24Speaker 12: you know, how does that play into anything? And basically
- 39:28Speaker 12: he said, it's naive to think that our kids aren't
- 39:31Speaker 12: aware of it and all that. But other than that,
- 39:33Speaker 12: you know, I don't think there's been any discussion other
- 39:35Speaker 12: than you know, all the all the cliches bs B,
- 39:39Speaker 12: Texas and things like that and everything will take care
- 39:41Speaker 12: of themselves. But sure it's on their mind. It's all
- 39:43Speaker 12: over social media, first time in twenty one years, so
- 39:47Speaker 12: you know, these kids are only human coaching staff as well.
- 39:50Speaker 12: Taking on a Georgia team cam obviously struggling. I think
- 39:54Speaker 12: that's the more important thing, is keeping that focus like
- 39:56Speaker 12: they had for that stretch of games against ranked teams.
- 39:59Speaker 12: Now you're taking on it team with just two conference wins.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so seven days off because last time Texas play
- 40:04Speaker 3: was against LSU that come from behind victory. I don't
- 40:07Speaker 3: think Texas could have shot the ball worse, but still
- 40:10Speaker 3: somehow pulled off the win over number five LSU an
- 40:13Speaker 3: entire week off, and we saw the effect it could
- 40:15Speaker 3: have because the Texas men seem go to Columbia South
- 40:18Speaker 3: Carolina after a week off, a team that had not
- 40:21Speaker 3: won a game yet in league.
- 40:22Speaker 7: Play, and they end up losing by fifteen points.
- 40:25Speaker 12: Yeah, I'm sure he's pulling out everything being Vick Schaefer
- 40:29Speaker 12: that he can to make sure they're motivated.
- 40:31Speaker 8: They went really hard this morning.
- 40:33Speaker 12: Fortunately for Texas, as we know cam, they can win
- 40:37Speaker 12: in a lot of different ways, and they can win
- 40:38Speaker 12: shooting the ball poorly because their defense is so suffocating.
- 40:42Speaker 8: They can shoot.
- 40:43Speaker 12: Twenty one out of twenty one from the free throw
- 40:45Speaker 12: line like they did against LSU. So I think the
- 40:49Speaker 12: fact that they have a lot of different ways to
- 40:51Speaker 12: beat you help the interesting to see the start that
- 40:54Speaker 12: Madison Booker gets off to, because again it's just been
- 40:58Speaker 12: against these top ten teams. Is shooting has been a
- 41:01Speaker 12: little bit more of a struggle from the field for Booker,
- 41:04Speaker 12: but you know, she's so good in so many different
- 41:07Speaker 12: ways that just be interesting to see how she gets
- 41:11Speaker 12: out of the gates here. And it's gonna be one
- 41:13Speaker 12: of those games where, you know, it's another cliche, you
- 41:15Speaker 12: don't want to let Georgia hang around and get some confidence.
- 41:18Speaker 12: They've you know, just have one conference winning like their
- 41:21Speaker 12: last seven. They had a buzzer beater against Missouri and
- 41:23Speaker 12: they beat Arkansas. But I'll be interested to see how
- 41:26Speaker 12: the first five six minutes goes because, as you mentioned
- 41:29Speaker 12: with the men, that didn't go well, and you know, you,
- 41:32Speaker 12: I don't know if you attributed to the layoff or whatever,
- 41:34Speaker 12: but I'm sure the coaches will be keeping a close
- 41:37Speaker 12: eye on that.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Yeah, especially considering Texas goes from playing four straight top
- 41:41Speaker 3: twenty five teams, three inside the top ten, two inside
- 41:45Speaker 3: the top five and winning all four of those games,
- 41:48Speaker 3: and what was probably very physical games but also emotional games.
- 41:52Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Fic Schaeffer came over to us
- 41:55Speaker 3: postgame for South Carolina LSU with tears in his eye,
- 41:58Speaker 3: So you have an emotional impossible to be a physical
- 42:00Speaker 3: layover to now facing a Georgia team that comes in
- 42:03Speaker 3: maybe under the radar.
- 42:05Speaker 12: Yeah, and George's played a lot of good competition. This
- 42:07Speaker 12: is their fourth top ten opponent in the last five,
- 42:10Speaker 12: so you know, on the flip side, they're probably a
- 42:12Speaker 12: little bit banged up mentally because they haven't had much success, losing,
- 42:17Speaker 12: like I said, nine of their last ten and this
- 42:20Speaker 12: is just one. All things equal, you would think Texas
- 42:24Speaker 12: is the better team by a significant amount. But what
- 42:27Speaker 12: happens early? Does somebody get into foul trouble? You know,
- 42:30Speaker 12: something unusual happen to allow Georgia to hang around. They've
- 42:34Speaker 12: got a couple of really good freshmen, the Trinity Turners,
- 42:37Speaker 12: a freshmen leading them and scoring that hasn't happened in
- 42:40Speaker 12: twenty one years. So you know this is this is
- 42:43Speaker 12: a great chance for Georgia.
- 42:44Speaker 1: What do they care?
- 42:45Speaker 12: You know, they got a chance to knock off now
- 42:47Speaker 12: number one. I'm sure they were thrilled that Texas moved
- 42:50Speaker 12: up to number one. Now they've got their their shot.
- 42:52Speaker 12: And you know, this is one of those standalone SEC
- 42:54Speaker 12: women's games because typically everybody plays on Sunday except one game,
- 42:58Speaker 12: and they hold that for Monday and Texas is only
- 43:00Speaker 12: other Monday game.
- 43:02Speaker 8: During this you know.
- 43:03Speaker 12: Second half of the season's been that Maryland game in Newark,
- 43:06Speaker 12: so it wasn't a conference game, so that's another reason
- 43:08Speaker 12: why the layoff has been a little bit longer.
- 43:11Speaker 8: But you know, we'll see if.
- 43:13Speaker 12: Texas just too good or if somehow Georgia finds a
- 43:16Speaker 12: way to hang around.
- 43:17Speaker 3: And then even after this game to night, Roger, I'm
- 43:19Speaker 3: guessing you guys are gonna get back into Austin probably
- 43:22Speaker 3: around midnight one am. The team leaves Wednesday at noon
- 43:25Speaker 3: for Starkville and what will be an emotional return for
- 43:28Speaker 3: fix Schaefer. So it's going to be a tight travel
- 43:30Speaker 3: schedule the long Horns this week.
- 43:33Speaker 12: Yeah, and you know you close out the regular season
- 43:35Speaker 12: with three and seven and then an emotional Senior Day
- 43:38Speaker 12: on Sunday against Florida. And oh, by the way, if
- 43:41Speaker 12: they take care of their business, they're guaranteed at least
- 43:44Speaker 12: a piece of an SEC championship. So, you know, so
- 43:48Speaker 12: much on the line for this team, and one little
- 43:50Speaker 12: slip up and things can kind of change dramatically, including
- 43:54Speaker 12: you know, the overall seeding where Texas, let's be honest,
- 43:56Speaker 12: they want to be in Birmingham. Assuming they win their
- 43:59Speaker 12: first two games in the tournament rather than going out
- 44:01Speaker 12: to Spokane. If they can hold on to this ranking,
- 44:04Speaker 12: they should get that slot in Birmingham. Of course we
- 44:06Speaker 12: got the SEC tournament. Not sure what happens there. And
- 44:09Speaker 12: then other thing is you could have three number one
- 44:11Speaker 12: from from this part of the country, you know, Texas
- 44:14Speaker 12: to the east, and what do they do. They got
- 44:15Speaker 12: to send somebody out west, you assume with UCLA is
- 44:18Speaker 12: as a number one, So you know that'll be a
- 44:22Speaker 12: concerning thing. I think, because I think VIC finally thinks, okay,
- 44:25Speaker 12: we've got the resume not to have to go out
- 44:27Speaker 12: to the west coast. There'll be a five forty five
- 44:29Speaker 12: pm airtime, six o'clock tip off Roger Wallace and Kathy
- 44:33Speaker 12: Arson on the call, and you can listen to it
- 44:35Speaker 12: on one on three one, Austin's eighty station.
- 44:37Speaker 7: Roger, look forward to it. All right, Thanks Caim.
- 44:39Speaker 3: All right, Roger Wallace joining us live from the Stegman
- 44:42Speaker 3: Coliseum in Aptons, Georgia. We'll be back to wrap up
- 44:45Speaker 3: today's edition of The Craig Ways Show. After this, we're back.
- 44:52Speaker 2: It's The Craig Way Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster
- 44:55Speaker 2: and voice of the Texas Logharns.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Craig What.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Thanks to Eric Henry from Warrens to four seven for
- 45:03Speaker 3: stopping buying Okinghall Texas Baseball, basketball in football, And of
- 45:10Speaker 3: course if you missed the interview you want to rehear it,
- 45:14Speaker 3: What's do it for the first time? Check out the
- 45:16Speaker 3: Craigway Show podcast anywhere you get your podcasts. From halfway
- 45:21Speaker 3: through today's program, Craig Way will join us next hour.
- 45:25Speaker 3: He's up a in Arlington, Texas for the Texas Coaches
- 45:29Speaker 3: Leadership Summit where he spoke at today, so get a
- 45:32Speaker 3: rundown for him. A busy weekend for Craig, of course,
- 45:35Speaker 3: he was in Columbia, South Carolina for the Texas men's
- 45:38Speaker 3: basketball team as they suffered a billow big blow to
- 45:43Speaker 3: their NCAA tournament chances, falling to South Carolina eighty four
- 45:46Speaker 3: to sixty nine at Colonial Life Arena. Trey Johnson at
- 45:50Speaker 3: twenty nine points a game high, but with Texas lost
- 45:54Speaker 3: just the third time these two schools had met since
- 45:56Speaker 3: the nineteen eighty one or sorry, the third time meeting
- 45:59Speaker 3: overall first time in nineteen eighty one season. Trey Johnson
- 46:02Speaker 3: eleven of twenty one three to seven from beyond the
- 46:05Speaker 3: arc four to four at the line, three rebounds. Really
- 46:09Speaker 3: the only long runer with a sign of life shooting
- 46:12Speaker 3: the basketball in that game. Kidd and Shederick five blocks,
- 46:16Speaker 3: went away from a career high nine rebounds eight points
- 46:20Speaker 3: in thirty minutes. But it was a Texas team that
- 46:23Speaker 3: just got kind of out played from the beginning. In
- 46:26Speaker 3: South Carolina kind of played with urgency, the sense of
- 46:29Speaker 3: urgency that Artie has talked about, came out firing from
- 46:33Speaker 3: the gate and played like a team that had nothing
- 46:35Speaker 3: to lose it in Texas just kind of came out slow.
- 46:38Speaker 3: You know, it had not played since the Saturday before
- 46:40Speaker 3: that huge win over Kentucky, had the midleweek break, and
- 46:44Speaker 3: we hoped it would be a good time for the
- 46:45Speaker 3: team to kind of heal up. But still no Kendall Weaver.
- 46:48Speaker 3: He continues the miss games with that hip fluxure injury.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Arthur Klum Arthur Kluma did come back, but only played
- 46:55Speaker 3: off the bench. The Von Pryor got some playing time
- 46:59Speaker 3: as well. But Texas, you know, they had a five
- 47:02Speaker 3: to four lead in that game and then that.
- 47:04Speaker 7: Was pretty much it.
- 47:05Speaker 3: South Carolina would score eight straight points in the next
- 47:08Speaker 3: three and a half minutes to grab a twelve to
- 47:10Speaker 3: five lead. Jason Kent made it a twenty to twelve
- 47:13Speaker 3: game with just over seven to play before South Carolina
- 47:17Speaker 3: scored back to back buckets would go up twenty four.
- 47:20Speaker 3: The twelve Colin Murray Bows had a big dunk just
- 47:23Speaker 3: under the six minute mark. Jason Kent a lamp would
- 47:26Speaker 3: cut it to a ten point game with just over
- 47:28Speaker 3: ninety seconds to play in that opening half, but the
- 47:30Speaker 3: game clocks would finish the last minute and forty seven
- 47:33Speaker 3: seconds on an eight to nothing run. Would go in
- 47:36Speaker 3: the halftime leading by eighteen points, all the momentum in
- 47:39Speaker 3: the game, and then kind of just cruised on through
- 47:43Speaker 3: the second half. Led by twenty two points in the
- 47:46Speaker 3: second half, with just under seven minutes to play in
- 47:49Speaker 3: the contest, Texas would go on a little thirteen to
- 47:51Speaker 3: two scoring spurt would cut it to an eleven point
- 47:55Speaker 3: game with just over three minutes to go, but that
- 47:58Speaker 3: was it. South Carolina would go on to win eighty
- 48:01Speaker 3: four to sixty nine. Texas now sixteen and eleven have
- 48:05Speaker 3: dropped to five and nine in conference play, and we'll
- 48:09Speaker 3: take on Arkansas Wednesday night. After the game, Craig Way
- 48:13Speaker 3: and Eddie orr and visited with Texas Long Wordn's head
- 48:15Speaker 3: coach Rodney Terry.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Visiting with the head coach Rodney Terry.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Arnt. You said it before the game, and you've said
- 48:20Speaker 4: the last few days that this was a dangerous team,
- 48:23Speaker 4: that they were going to be due at some point,
- 48:24Speaker 4: And I guess it's a commination of them doing a
- 48:26Speaker 4: lot of things right and then you're ball clumb unable
- 48:29Speaker 4: to get the momentum going that you need in the
- 48:31Speaker 4: first half.
- 48:32Speaker 5: Well, every game we go into, I make sure I
- 48:33Speaker 5: guess it's prepared for what they're about.
- 48:35Speaker 6: To go into.
- 48:36Speaker 5: There's a physical team that's had a chance to win
- 48:38Speaker 5: a lot of games in this building and realiship have
- 48:40Speaker 5: about five wins in conference playing at don't but they
- 48:42Speaker 5: played great at home.
- 48:43Speaker 6: We didn't play really physical at home.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Now physical does our toughness in the first half, and
- 48:48Speaker 5: we didn't respond.
- 48:49Speaker 6: We didn't respond.
- 48:50Speaker 5: You know, we have to again, you know, come in,
- 48:54Speaker 5: put on emphasis on deepest play as hard as we
- 48:56Speaker 5: can play.
- 48:57Speaker 6: And we didn't do that tonight.
- 48:58Speaker 4: How difficult is that for you and for the coaches
- 49:00Speaker 4: when you see it happening early and maybe they don't
- 49:04Speaker 4: get the indication of it early on the floor when
- 49:06Speaker 4: that physical Uh, you might say the dominance is being
- 49:10Speaker 4: established by South Carolina, and what and what you were
- 49:13Speaker 4: trying to get your guys to do to respond.
- 49:15Speaker 6: I mean, we call time out to try to get
- 49:16Speaker 6: that point across.
- 49:17Speaker 5: And again, you know, they had a really good player
- 49:20Speaker 5: on the floor over there tonight.
- 49:21Speaker 6: He's I mean, he's one of the top five best
- 49:23Speaker 6: players in this league.
- 49:24Speaker 5: And when you're going in, we got to try to
- 49:26Speaker 5: do a good job with him. I mean, he's he's
- 49:28Speaker 5: a hard he's a hard matchup, you know. And and
- 49:30Speaker 5: then we didn't we didn't have that matchup very well.
- 49:32Speaker 4: You made a push second half, you cut it a
- 49:34Speaker 4: twenty two point deficit in half, down to eleven at
- 49:37Speaker 4: one point in the second half. There, I saw some
- 49:39Speaker 4: energy out of your guys. Is that kind of what
- 49:42Speaker 4: the what has to be stressed during the course of
- 49:44Speaker 4: the week as you get ready for that game back
- 49:46Speaker 4: in Arkansas, Oh.
- 49:47Speaker 6: We talked about it.
- 49:48Speaker 5: This week is about trying to play tournament basketball right now.
- 49:51Speaker 5: You know, in terms of understanding that you have one
- 49:53Speaker 5: bad hab. You know, you don't play a forty many
- 49:56Speaker 5: games and your season's over and understanding the urgent you
- 50:00Speaker 5: have to play with this time of the year. You
- 50:01Speaker 5: can't wait for mart to try to time to play
- 50:03Speaker 5: that way. Really try to emphasize that the guys on
- 50:05Speaker 5: board it was to start playing that way right now
- 50:08Speaker 5: against a team that we knew that plays really well
- 50:10Speaker 5: at home.
- 50:11Speaker 8: Well, you got some big games comes. You got to
- 50:13Speaker 8: put this one behind and go forward.
- 50:16Speaker 9: And you know, good shooters have short memories, good teams
- 50:19Speaker 9: have short memory. We got to go put these next
- 50:21Speaker 9: few games that a head of us and make some hay.
- 50:24Speaker 5: Keep it for one night, but you got to You
- 50:26Speaker 5: got to come and compete in this league every night.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Any game can beat you on any given night if
- 50:30Speaker 5: you're not ready to play. And you know, we weren't
- 50:32Speaker 5: ready to play in the first half or whatever reason,
- 50:34Speaker 5: didn't get off. We didn't get off to a great start.
- 50:36Speaker 5: But you got to still continue to work the game.
- 50:38Speaker 3: So where does that leave Texas's chances of making the
- 50:42Speaker 3: NCAA tournament. Well, Nil Paint from the ESPN posts today
- 50:45Speaker 3: a bracket bubble update and list the Texas chances of
- 50:49Speaker 3: making the tournament right now at just fifty two percent.
- 50:53Speaker 1: No pain rights.
- 50:54Speaker 3: The long runs keep taking one step forward and then
- 50:56Speaker 3: two steps back. Had that huge one over Kentucky. After
- 51:00Speaker 3: entering that game on a three game losing a three
- 51:03Speaker 3: game losing skid, but then losing to South Carolina in
- 51:07Speaker 3: a game that they were favored, they went from being
- 51:09Speaker 3: a sixty seven percent chance of making the tournament to
- 51:11Speaker 3: just fifty two percent. Net ranking is still in the thirties,
- 51:16Speaker 3: but the Texas Longhorns strength to record is barely top fifty.
- 51:20Speaker 3: They're three to nine against top fifty teams. In South
- 51:23Speaker 3: Carolina delt them a second loss to teams outside the
- 51:26Speaker 3: top fifty, which won't help their case with the committee.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Texas now will take on Arkansas on Wednesday night, and
- 51:34Speaker 3: Arkansas comes in at just a forty three percent chance
- 51:39Speaker 3: of making the tournament. So this game tomorrow night not
- 51:43Speaker 3: only as a must I'm sorry, Wednesday night not only
- 51:44Speaker 3: a must win for Texas, also a must win for Arkansas,
- 51:49Speaker 3: who will be at home and already has beaten Texas.
- 51:53Speaker 3: So an Arkansas team that came out very physical, very
- 51:57Speaker 3: aggressive against the Longhorns at Moody Center earlier this season,
- 52:00Speaker 3: had a doublegile lead in that first half. Texas was
- 52:03Speaker 3: able to trim it down the single digits, but Arkansas
- 52:06Speaker 3: would eventually go on to win that game. So it's
- 52:08Speaker 3: an Arkansas team that probably is not afraid of Texas.
- 52:12Speaker 3: You know, we've already beat them before. We're at home,
- 52:14Speaker 3: we're on our court, and we got to win this game.
- 52:17Speaker 3: So that's going to be a real uphill bat for
- 52:19Speaker 3: the Long Gordons. Now, of course, Texas coming off lost
- 52:22Speaker 3: South Carolina, maybe that will light a fire underneath them.
- 52:25Speaker 3: You heard our tea talk about having that sense of urgency.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Tax has run out of time here. It's only four,
- 52:30Speaker 3: only four games with the Gold in the season, and
- 52:32Speaker 3: they are not a lot for the tournament. And now
- 52:35Speaker 3: four games left, and three of the four games are
- 52:38Speaker 3: playing against Oklahoma, Arkansas and then Georgia. Those three teams
- 52:43Speaker 3: are fighting for their tournament's lives. They're fighting for the
- 52:45Speaker 3: life to make the tournament. So every game from here
- 52:48Speaker 3: on out is a must win game, not only for
- 52:50Speaker 3: Texas but pretty much for the team they're playing. And
- 52:54Speaker 3: the other game at Missippi State, you know, a team
- 52:58Speaker 3: that's been in the top twenty five rankings all season long.
- 53:01Speaker 3: We're gonna be hosting Texas at home. You know, they're
- 53:03Speaker 3: fighting for a better seed in the conference tournament and
- 53:06Speaker 3: also a better seed in the NCAA Tournament. They're probably
- 53:09Speaker 3: the only team on the Texas schedule that has a
- 53:11Speaker 3: lock for the NCAA Tournament. So Texas does trouble ahead
- 53:16Speaker 3: and it starts with Arkansas Wednesday night against a very
- 53:19Speaker 3: well coached Calipari team in the Arkansas Razorbacks. They blasted
- 53:24Speaker 3: Missouri was it last week? Were not really blasted, but
- 53:30Speaker 3: beat them by seven at home. Came out of the
- 53:33Speaker 3: wire against Number one Auburn earlier in the week, lost
- 53:35Speaker 3: by on the seven points. So it's an Arkansas team
- 53:37Speaker 3: that's been you know, it's a very good team. It's
- 53:40Speaker 3: a tough conference. And I did not think their record
- 53:44Speaker 3: when they came in the Texas really indicated how much
- 53:47Speaker 3: talent they have on the team. I mean, they have
- 53:49Speaker 3: a couple of guards that gave the Longhorns backcourt some trouble.
- 53:54Speaker 3: Janelle Davis, the former FAU owl we went to the
- 53:57Speaker 3: final four before the Atlantic. He's fast, he's physical, six
- 54:02Speaker 3: foot four, you know, he's a big dude. And then
- 54:05Speaker 3: Dj Wagner, you know who transferred to Kentucky. He's also
- 54:08Speaker 3: six foot four, So the length in the size, in
- 54:12Speaker 3: the height of Arkansas's backcourt gave Texas a lot of trouble. Now,
- 54:16Speaker 3: one thing Texas didn't have Kenda Weaver in that first
- 54:19Speaker 3: meeting at Arkansas. That's the key Ken Texas get Kendall
- 54:23Speaker 3: Weaver back next week and the last thing we heard
- 54:26Speaker 3: from Marte was he was still out indefinitely. I think
- 54:29Speaker 3: the hope was to get him back last weekend. Did
- 54:31Speaker 3: not get him back in time. It's a hip luxure injury.
- 54:34Speaker 3: So hopefully we'll get kend Thel Weaver back on Wednesday
- 54:36Speaker 3: night because Texas will definitely need him against a really
- 54:39Speaker 3: talented Arkansas backcourt. But there's four games up to go.
- 54:43Speaker 3: Texas is in must win. Terry Troth, they were already
- 54:46Speaker 3: in it, but now there is no margin for air.
- 54:49Speaker 3: After the loss to South Carolina last Saturday night, mentioned
- 54:53Speaker 3: that Texas women's basketball number one, for the first time
- 54:56Speaker 3: in twenty one years, will take on Georgie. It's You
- 55:00Speaker 3: can listen to that on one O three to one
- 55:01Speaker 3: Austin's eighty station five point forty five eretimes six o'clock
- 55:05Speaker 3: tip off Roger Wallace and Kathy Harston on the call.
- 55:09Speaker 3: You can also watch the game on SEC Network. We're
- 55:14Speaker 3: through the first hour and now almost the second hour.
- 55:17Speaker 3: We'll be back to wrap up hour two and we're
- 55:20Speaker 3: gonna give away some tickets. So stay tuned to that
- 55:23Speaker 3: and get that iHeart app ready for a chance to win.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Greig Wait show continues after this. Okay, let's pivot from
- 55:30Speaker 3: college athletics to the NFL. What is the most popular
- 55:36Speaker 3: or sorry, let me rephrase it, what is the most
- 55:38Speaker 3: polarizing play in the NFL?
- 55:40Speaker 2: Right now?
- 55:41Speaker 3: It's a touch push, right or if you're an Eagles fan,
- 55:44Speaker 3: you might call it the brotherly chef. Well, an NFL
- 55:49Speaker 3: team that has been identified by the Athletic as the
- 55:53Speaker 3: Green Bay Packers have submitted a role proposal to ban
- 55:57Speaker 3: the tush push quarterback sneak. On Monday, Troy Vincent, the
- 56:03Speaker 3: NFL's executive vice president of football Operations, told reporters so
- 56:06Speaker 3: they had the scouting combine that a team, which he
- 56:10Speaker 3: did not identify, had made the proposal during a break
- 56:14Speaker 3: in between meetings between the NFL officials and the competition committee,
- 56:18Speaker 3: to the Washington Post. In the NFL Network, Now, the
- 56:21Speaker 3: Athletic came out about twenty five minutes ago that it
- 56:25Speaker 3: was green Bay that has submitted the role change.
- 56:28Speaker 7: So how does this work?
- 56:29Speaker 3: Well, NFL owners could vote on the proposal next month
- 56:32Speaker 3: at the spring owners meeting in Paul Meets Florida, unless
- 56:35Speaker 3: the Packers decide to withdraw its proposal. If it goes
- 56:39Speaker 3: to a vote, twenty four of the NFL's thirty two
- 56:43Speaker 3: owners would have to vote in favor for it to pass.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Keyboard is owners. It's not coaches, it's not players, it's
- 56:50Speaker 3: NFL owners have to vote. So twenty four of the
- 56:54Speaker 3: thirty two NFL team the owners have to vote in
- 56:57Speaker 3: favor for the role to pass. To pass, Oh, pash Rush,
- 57:02Speaker 3: little collins Worth there, teams all. You know every season
- 57:04Speaker 3: we have teams voting for different rule proposals each year.
- 57:08Speaker 3: Last season was what the the hip drop tackle rule
- 57:12Speaker 3: that was made illegal. Well, we see the tush push
- 57:16Speaker 3: become illegal. Troy Vincent said, we do have a club
- 57:20Speaker 3: playing role proposal around the tush push. It's the way
- 57:23Speaker 3: they deemed it, the tush push. It's on our agenda.
- 57:25Speaker 3: The club proposal is we need to make some adjustments
- 57:28Speaker 3: to that. Is that a viable football play? End quote?
- 57:33Speaker 3: Now this rule or this this play has been examined
- 57:37Speaker 3: by the NFL and the Competition Compittee Committee in the
- 57:41Speaker 3: last two seasons, but no action has been taken. The
- 57:44Speaker 3: Eagles and the Bills have combined to run the tush
- 57:47Speaker 3: push or the quarterback sneak one hundred and sixty three
- 57:50Speaker 3: times in which they deemed this play in which the
- 57:53Speaker 3: team lines up one or more players behind the quarterback
- 57:57Speaker 3: to push them forward against the defense. Keyword, there is
- 58:00Speaker 3: one or more players. So not just a quarterback and
- 58:04Speaker 3: I formation or sorry, quarterback in the gun by himself.
- 58:08Speaker 3: It's when you have a running back, a full back,
- 58:10Speaker 3: of tight end. The Eagles usually have Hurts behind center,
- 58:13Speaker 3: and then you got what two tight ends and then
- 58:15Speaker 3: a running back behind him, so you got four guys
- 58:17Speaker 3: in the backfield. That's their version of the touchbush. Now
- 58:21Speaker 3: the role change here is one or more players behind
- 58:24Speaker 3: the quarterback. Out of these past three seasons, the Eagles
- 58:28Speaker 3: and Bills have run the play the most of the
- 58:30Speaker 3: NFL combined. They've scored a touchdown or achieved a first
- 58:33Speaker 3: down on this play eighty seven percent of the time,
- 58:36Speaker 3: while the rest of the NFL has been successful in
- 58:39Speaker 3: just seventy one percent of the time. Of course, remember
- 58:43Speaker 3: when the Eagles played the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, Frankieluvu,
- 58:48Speaker 3: the former Panthers linebacker now in the Commanders what he
- 58:52Speaker 3: jumped over the Eagles offensive line twice to try and
- 58:55Speaker 3: stop the play. Sean Hockeyley came out and said that
- 58:57Speaker 3: he did it a third time. They were going to
- 58:59Speaker 3: give Philadelphia touchdown. Before the Super Bowl, Nick Sirianni, the
- 59:03Speaker 3: Eagles head coach, noted that and he said it in
- 59:05Speaker 3: a statement, the success that we have had is not
- 59:08Speaker 3: always replicated throughout the entire league. Added, I'm lobbying to
- 59:12Speaker 3: never change that role just because we're successful at it.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Vincent would also say in the NFL Network quote hip
- 59:18Speaker 3: drop and the toush push were in the same conversation
- 59:21Speaker 3: three years ago. A year ago, we felt like, let's
- 59:25Speaker 3: just focus in on the hip drop tackle and the
- 59:28Speaker 3: tush push. Just say, hey, the Eagles, they do it
- 59:31Speaker 3: better than everybody else. But there are some concerns. Our
- 59:34Speaker 3: Health and Safety Committee has laid out today with a
- 59:37Speaker 3: brief conversation on the injury report. There's some challenges, some
- 59:40Speaker 3: concerns that they'll share with the broader group tomorrow with
- 59:42Speaker 3: the toush push will become a topic of discussion moving
- 59:46Speaker 3: into March. End quote. Again, the Packers could withdraw this
- 59:50Speaker 3: role proposal, but if they do not, it will go
- 59:54Speaker 3: to a vote in March, and again twenty four of
- 59:56Speaker 3: the thirty two NFL owners have to agree to ban it.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: This could have some huge implications going forward because it's
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: not just the the Eagles and the Bills. It's the
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: quarterback sneak and based on the Verbia's here, it's when
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: one or more players line up behind the quarterback to
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: push them forward. So now some quarterback sneaks right under
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: center and you go, that's it. But the Eagles and
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: the Bills have turned it into where you got the
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: you know, two tight ends, running back, full back, whatever,
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: and they're the ones that end up kind of, you know,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: helping the quarterback push forward across the line. Now, I
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: think the only angle in which this could, you know,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: really get taken away is the health side of it. Right,
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: is this is this play jeopardizing the health of the
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: offensive lineman, the quarterback, defensive linemen. I mean, that's what
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: happened with the hip drop tackle, right. All all these
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: roles surrounding the health and safety of the quarterbacks and
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: the players, you know, with the hip drop tackle and
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: head the head contact. Only way I can see this
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: play getting becoming illegal is if they focus in on
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: the health safety part of it. Right, if maybe the
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: NFL Competition Committee comes in and says, hey, we're finding
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: out that players are getting injured running this play, but
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: so far we have not had that data. And I
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: do not know if we're going to get that data.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: And I do not think this rule will be overturned
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: or this play will be turned into an illegal play.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: My thoughts on it, just stop it, you know, It's
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: how what's different between that and quarterback are in a
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: running back run? Like if you can't stop it, you
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: can't stop it. I understand it's probably maybe it's a
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: little bit boring, right fourth and one hurt. So here
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: we go. They're going to get it. I mean, it's
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: not one hundred percent of the time.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: They get it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Eighty seven percent of the time according to the ESPN research.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: But I think you just got to figure out a
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: way to stop it. That's just part of the game.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: So we'll see what will happen. Will this It does
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: appear that this will go to vote sometime in March
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: with the NFL owners. Okay, let's continue with some more
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: baseball conversation. I promised we would get to Jim slowchn
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Engles postgame interview with Keith Morlanter. Texas swept Dartmouth yesterday
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: on the baseball field that UFCU Dishwalk field after two
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: just bad days of weather. We finally got some sunshine
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: yesterday after near freezing temperatures on Friday and Saturday, but
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Texas improving to four and one, and what stood out
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: was the pitching. Freshman left handed pitcher Dylan Falantes pitched
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: four and two thirds scoreless, his first career win. Atalantis
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: retired twelve of the thirteen batters he faced and retired
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: the first eight he faced. Flantas by the way six
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: foot six, two hundred and twelve pounds Eithan Mendoza was
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: three for four, had that solo home run and two
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: runs batted in That fifth inning. Solo shot was pronound
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: to be the go ahead run off the right field
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: foul Pole then added another insurance run in the eighth
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: inning with a RBI single. He's had some fantastic plays
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: at second basement. Defensively, Mendoza also got the third base
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: off of error by Dartmouth Tier Rodriguez, and then Max
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: Blue would follow that with an run scoring base hit
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: that tie it up out one apiece, Kate being scoring
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: or pitching the first four in a third innings no
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: decision on him being allowed one run off a two hit,
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: struck out two batters. A good bounce back performance for
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: Kate being who started it against Oklahoma State last Sunday,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: and I think coach Loss said that he was just
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: too fired up, too much drenaline. But a much much
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: improved outing on Sunday against Dartmouth, allowing only just one
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: run in his second start of the season. Max Balou,
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: by the way, reached four times. Adrian Rodriguez registered his
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: third multi hit game the last four contest. He's playing
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: fantastic baseball and Texas now looks to take on incarnate
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: word and improve to five and one and keep that
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: windstreak going after them. And I apologize the first part
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: of this interview a little shoppy between coach Tim Slashnagle
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: and Keith Mullen. But here Slash and Keith Mullen after
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: the win yesterday at the dish, a.
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: Couple of thanks, a great fans a good day and
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: you look at it, it all starts with me of
- 1:04:16Speaker 10: what happened coming.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Out of your bull fen.
- 1:04:18Speaker 11: I was just an outstanding performance. Yeah, I mean, first
- 1:04:21Speaker 11: of all, thanks to the fans coming out as the
- 1:04:23Speaker 11: first day's Paul Park times. On the other end of it,
- 1:04:26Speaker 11: dugout on a pretty day with the Dishfalk fans, you.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Know, being awesome and great today.
- 1:04:32Speaker 11: But yeah, milanis he's good man, No, he's special.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Just trying to do everything we can.
- 1:04:37Speaker 11: You know, I got to use my experience and our
- 1:04:41Speaker 11: experience on trying to set a freshman pitcher up for
- 1:04:43Speaker 11: success in the sec you know, and uh, you know,
- 1:04:47Speaker 11: just trying to get the right role for him to
- 1:04:49Speaker 11: start the year, to give him some confidence and you.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Know, maybe you can do some other things later in
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: the year.
- 1:04:54Speaker 10: Yeah, and then you know you've rested a guy yesterday,
- 1:04:56Speaker 10: he comes back today has a magnificent performance in Sega
- 1:04:59Speaker 10: basis of all the ballpark. When you look at Mendosa,
- 1:05:01Speaker 10: look at you're just trying to find each guy's spot
- 1:05:05Speaker 10: so far.
- 1:05:05Speaker 11: Yeah, you're just trying to figure out who can do what.
- 1:05:07Speaker 11: You're trying to give guys opportunities like we did with
- 1:05:10Speaker 11: Borva yesterday.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: You know, I'd like to get do plant a Jayden
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: in there some.
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: You know, and you're trying to also, you know, the
- 1:05:18Speaker 11: guys that have proven it at some level in the past,
- 1:05:20Speaker 11: or or have the actual physical skills, like like in
- 1:05:23Speaker 11: Easton Winfield, like trying to give him as much rope
- 1:05:25Speaker 11: as he can because I've.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Seen him do it. I've seen him be great.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: And you you you especially know how this game, when
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: you want to do so well, you can over try
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: and then when that starts happening, it doesn't matter who
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: you're facing.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: You can't. You it's o to when you wake up
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: in the morning and you know that.
- 1:05:41Speaker 10: It's so important to have victories and do things, but
- 1:05:44Speaker 10: it's got to be fun as well. And that's one
- 1:05:46Speaker 10: of the things you're talking about, is you just relax.
- 1:05:48Speaker 10: When you have fun, you can be successful. Yeah, you're certainly.
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: My challenge in the team before the game was, you know,
- 1:05:53Speaker 11: how would you play this game if you were in
- 1:05:55Speaker 11: a little league? I mean, you would just play a
- 1:05:56Speaker 11: care freedom And really one of the only guys on
- 1:05:59Speaker 11: our team that does it right now is the guy
- 1:06:00Speaker 11: who should be the least care free and next Rodriguez
- 1:06:03Speaker 11: because he's never played before him.
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: But he's just playing. You know, he's just playing. If
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: he makes a mistake, moves on.
- 1:06:09Speaker 11: Other guys were just you know, they're super pressing, and
- 1:06:12Speaker 11: you know last week was was awesome. But you can
- 1:06:14Speaker 11: see how this game can flip around on your heartbeat
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: thinking as we pitch and play a defense.
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: Well, congressionates the victor will season twos to night.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Thanks Youth, Texas back in action tomorrow night at the
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: dish six fifteen eritimes six thirty. First pitch, it's a
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Longhorne host the University of Incarnate Word at the dish. Okay,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: up next, Craig Way, we'll call into the show get
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: his thoughts on this past weekend here as we continue
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: our number three of this Monday program.
- 1:06:41Speaker 7: Hey, it's good afternoon, Craig.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: How you doing.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: Hey, I'll be home for one night tonight. Isn't that
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: a great thing? You know? For I had somebody ask
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: me this morning in Arlington, what what you have a
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: busy schedule right now as ow Yeah, because we have
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: to overlap between men's and women's basket ball in baseball
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: and some other events. They said, well, what would a
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: typical week, look like, I said, Well, no week is typical.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: They're all different. I said, For example, I said today,
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: I said, I mean, if you go back to Saturday,
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: there was the game in South Carolina and came back
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: and we got back about two fifteen in the morning,
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: and then there was a new baseball game, so I
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: had that, and I drove up Darlington last night to
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: MC the Leadership Summit, which is a fabulous event, and
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: went up to do that and did that today and
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: driving back tonight and then tomorrow I'll fly with men's
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: basketball the Fandela Arkansas and they'll play Wednesday, and then
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: I'll come back late late Wednesday night, and then Thursday
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: I will do Long Worn Weekly, which with Rodney Terry,
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: but Andrews I Emma will sit in on the show
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: for me because I have to repack and recheck basketball
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: and baseball equipment and then get that to the airport,
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: then come back, do the show, then go to the
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: airport and play to Las Vegas to do the Privy
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: baseball game against Washington Man. We'll be back on a
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: five am Saturday flight, and then we have men's basketball
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Saturday night against Georgia and women's basketball Sunday against Florida,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: and then Monday you'll be with me. We'll apply to
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: start built for a Tuesday night men's game Atssissippi State.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: So anyway, Yeah, the road goes on and the party
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: never ends. As Robert Earl Keat would.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Say, right, I listed the events happening with Texas this week.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: There is literally something happening every single day this week,
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: and I'm not sure we've had it before because we
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: have a women's basketball game tonight, baseball game tomorrow, men's
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: basketball Wednesday, women's basketball and Longhorn weekly, Thursday, softball and baseball, Saturday,
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: softball and baseball, men's basketball, sorry, softball, baseball, Friday, softball,
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: men's basketball, baseball Saturday, and then Sunday women's basketball, baseball,
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: and soootball.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, you've heard me referred to it as the overlap,
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: and it's really uh overlap Roman numeral two because the
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: first one starts about the tenth of November. It actually
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: started the fourth this year early. It start ever for
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: men's basketball when we were out in Las Vegas, but
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: it usually starts around the tenth of February tenth of
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: November and then usually ends up about mid to late
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: late December usually for the Bowl game, but now football
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: of course went all the way to January tenth with
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: the Cotton Bowl, so you had that. So that was
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: between football and men's and women's basketball. And then the
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: second overlap usually starts around Valentine's weekend, and it did
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: with baseball joining men's and women's basketball, and that goes
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: for a solid six weeks up until about the end
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: of March. If basketball is really success, that's what. Obviously
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: the women have a chance to make a deep, deep
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: run in the tournament. We'll see about the men if
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: they can get in and what they can do from there.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: But you know, it runs so anyway. It's it's a
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: big part of you know, why I got into the
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: business on back way back when I was in college
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: in the eighties. I love games. I like to be
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: at the games. For anybody to ask if I love
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: the travel, the answer is no, because it does get
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: to be a drain. I like some of the cities
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: and destinations we go to, but the travel itself can
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: be a bit of a grind. But anyway, it's it's
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: all part of the job. It's part of the deal,
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: and it's what I signed up for, so I'm fine
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: with it.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: So basically, for the next month or so, there's gonna
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: be a lot of days where Andrew Zimmel will be
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: filling in for you and myself.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: There's a reason he's the sixth man, you know. And
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: even though and let me say this, and today's an example,
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: even though the week days, but I'll be out of
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: the studio, uh, in all probability, in most of those days,
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: I'll be checking in for like a segment or two whatever,
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: like like right now. So there's place that. Now, Tomorrow
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: is going to be difficult because because of the takeoff
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: in the afternoon, So I'll probably miss out on Tomorrow,
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: But Winsday obviously I'll I'll be on. I'll check in
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: from Fayetteville and then and then I've got RT show
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: on Thursday from Pluckers and uh and then Priti will
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: be in Las Vegas and hopefully I'll be at the
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: mall park and hooked up and checked in there. But see,
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: and that's part of this whole thing, Cameron, And you've
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: learned this now as an engineer producer about more than
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: just going to the destination. You've got to make sure
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: that you're at the facility that you've got what you
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: need and test and hook up and so on and
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: so forth. And for men's basketball and for football, we
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: have engineers to do that, and you're the engineer, primary
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: engineer or men's basketball, women's basketball, and baseball, we're kind
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: of a one man man. Now in the case of
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: the Thursday are you and Roger that's in Starkville. Roger
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: will have the luxury of having you alongside the engineer
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: and be the analyst. But by and large, when we
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: go on the road to do a women's game or
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: a baseball game, it's down to us to make sure
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: we get things soaked up. But I'm used to it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: I mean, we've been doing it a long time, and
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: so that's okay. So there's definitely not a complaint. It's
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: just it's a statement of how the routine is, and
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: you get into the routine and you do what you
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: gotta do.
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: A busy weekend on the baseball front, men's basketball as well,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: of course, you travel the Columbia South Carolina. Not the
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: result Texas wanted to see, neither the rt But I'll
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: calld of leave it up to you, Craig, what do
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: you want to get to first and kind of what
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: was your biggest takeaway from both the Jim's Los Angeles
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: home opening weekend a suite of Dartmouth and then Texas
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: men's basketball really hurting their chances of making the tournament
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: with the loss of South Carolina.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: Oh, we can start chronologically. H And you experienced at
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: firsthand on Saturday, Keith and Roger experienced it on Friday
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: as I was traveling at Columbia, and that was just
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: mind numbing cold.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: And and listen, I always lean on what Key says Ufcu.
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: Dishawk Field can be singularly the coldest place on the
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: planet and the hottest place in the same season because
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: you start in February, but that north wind kicks in
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: and if you've got any kind of precipitation, it can
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: be like that. And it was miserable on Tuesday from
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: when they couldn't play the game, and then uh, and
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: then it was bad again obviously on Friday, but it
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: was just mainly and largely cold, and then uh, and
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: then obviously it was better on Sunday. Waltworts did what
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: they had to do to get the win, and to
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: get the win in all three cases, and they nixed
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: some good pitching in with enough enough timely hitting to Guarder.
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: All three wins now clearly losses looking for more out
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: of his offense, but they did enough to do that
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: take a step forward. We'll see if they take another
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: step forward tomorrow when they play ui W before they
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: had the Las Vegas because they're gonna get tested by Washington,
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: they're gonna get tested clearly by Texas Tech, and they're
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: gonna get tested by Illinois, so you ramp up in
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: your tests. And then they have one more home non
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: conference series that'll be Santa Clara, and then you're in
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: the belly of the beast. You start off with duty
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: Noble there in Starkville against Mississippi State, and that's going
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: to be quite a test with until you had that
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: in between that. On Saturday was the men's basketball game
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: at Columbia, and I'm sure I saw it with my
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: own eyes that Rodney Terry and his staff have been
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: just pouring over every detail, going back, looking every cut
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: up digital video of that deal. They were doing it
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: on the plane. We didn't get home until two fifteen
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: in the morning, late late late Saturday night, and they
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: were all in it, but they are every game win
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: or lose. But they were diving into it to find
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: out why it wasn't there. The level of physicality they
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: needed wasn't there. South Carolina Rove eve been warning everybody
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: about it. I'd said something about it. They were better,
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: but that the record, you know, Bill Parcell says your
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: record you are? Which record says you are? They were
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: all with thirteen in the conference, but if you look
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: behind the numbers, they had lost six of those games
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: by a combined twenty points. The lost in Florida by
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: one point. In Florida down fourteen in the second half.
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: They lost to A and M I think by an
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: arrow margin. They lost to Auburn by four. So they
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: were right there in some games, but they hadn't got
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: over the hump. But if you gave them the door
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: to walk through, especially with an NBA caliber player that
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: they have at power board, they could walk through it.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: And they did, and so it did put Texas at
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: a tough spot. Now, I wouldn't say they're on the
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: outside looking in, and I think Toellnardi will do another
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: update tomorrow, but remember they were top of the last
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: four bis. I think at the very least, they may
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: slide them to the bottom of the last four buys
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: or they might be in the last four h What
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: does that all mean. I don't know, but I know this.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: They have four games left, two at home, two on
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: the road. Without question, they need to win the two
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: home games because Georgia and Oklahoma are in a worse
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: predicament than the log warns, and if they could find
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: a way to win on Wednesday in Fayetteville or the
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: game in Starkville would be good because they both beat
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: Q one wins. I would submit to you that Arkansas
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: is still in a little more of a dire predicament
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: than Texas, but they're playing there right now and got
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: that big road win at Missouri that was important for them,
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: and they played Auburn tough, and of course they beat
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: Texas by ad in Austin, and that was one of
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: those games where they'd won the physical battle. So I
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: bet that's being preached and coached here starting yesterday and
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: then today, and it'll be tomorrow as well, because this
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: is gonna be a tough challenge on Wednesday night in Fayetteville.
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: And in three of the four teams they finished the
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: season against are all in the bubble Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: So Texas is battling those three teams for a tournament
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: spot perhaps, and one way to make sure to make
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: the tournament is by beating those three teams.
- 1:17:20Speaker 7: So for Texas, these next four games.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: I don't know if each single one is a must win, Craig,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: but you think you got to go possibly at least
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: three and one end the season.
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: Well, it would make a big difference if they could
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: do that, I would tell you that. And if they
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: go to and two and only win the home games,
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: they're probably gonna have to win a game that you
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: might not expect them to win in Nashville at the
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: tournament to get them in, or they might wind up
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: in Date in the first four or something like that.
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Here's the other thing about all that can and you
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: know this, not only does ESPN do a bubble watch
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: and CBS Sports does that at USA today, I look
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: several bracket a logical prognostications all the time, and there's
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: always a bubble watch. Well I've been watching that over
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: the weekend. Now, I know for a lot of longhorn
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: pants it doesn't resonate with them. They're not looking at
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: other teams. But I'm watching how teams like wake Forest
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: and SU and some other teams lawns, and so that
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: makes a big difference if some other bubble teams are
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: suffering misforts. But you still have to handle your own
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: business to make it work.
- 1:18:31Speaker 7: He is Craig Way.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: He is on the road again, and we'll be on
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: the road again tomorrow and on Wednesday, and on Thursday
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: and on Friday and pretty much every other day from
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: here on out until ju And Hey, Greig, I will
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: not see you tomorrow.
- 1:18:44Speaker 7: I will not see you until wow, maybe next week.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: Perhaps, Yeah, yeah, that's that's entirely possible. You might have.
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: By the way, one quick word I want to say
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: about this leadership summit that I seed. It's a great
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: event in high school coaches from all over the state
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: come in and it's a chance to hear some of
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: the steamer speech speakers. There's one speaker named Steve Jones
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: who spoke today, and he's really really inspirational, and he
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: sounded like he sounded like a guy that would be
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: just like what a guy like Kim Slasmegal would need
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: or somebody else who would need a motivational guy to
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: help guys steer away from fear. Come to find out,
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: the guy is on Matt Lafour's staff at Green Bay
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: as a consultant. He has an office, uh and so,
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: and he's written a best selling book called The Two
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: Thieves about and the Thieves are the negative feelings that
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: have a fear of failure and the fear of the
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: of the negative criticism you get from that. It was
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: really really unique and inspiring stuff about all.
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: Yeah, well, we know Slaunch hired Brian Kaine, who's kind
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: of like a mental performance coach who he has a book,
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: a thing called a Mental Performance Mastery. So we're seeing
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: coaches in the sports world kind of gravitates to bringing
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: on mental coaches to help, you know, strengthen up the
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: mental aspect their players in their locker room.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're seeing the mental side. Sark has always
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: said that he has really been intrigued by the mental
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: side of the game, of psychological side of the game.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: And that's a lot of what that that that education
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: summit is that leadership summit. It's about fostering leaders of
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: coaches and what they're trying to uncover in their student
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: athletes to try to inspire them to do bigger and
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: better things. It's a really great event.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Last thing for you, BUCkies, check stop where are you
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: stopping at before you get home to Georgetown, Texas.
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: Well, I just made a stop at Starbucks a few
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: minutes ago. I was feeling a little tired, so I
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: got an espresso frappuccino and that all to be able
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: to get me all the way back to northern Williamson County.
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: All right, well, hey, we will see you, I think
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: next Monday, and we'll get on a plane the Starkville,
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: so safe travels to Vadeville. Keep an eye Eddie Orn
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: for me and best wishes this week.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks, And I'll check in with zimml and and
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: then obviously we'll hope for the best for basketball and
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: then baseball tomorrow night against UIW with Roger and Keith.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: And like you say, it's it's going onward and upward
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: now as we kind of head toward March.
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: It's a busy time. All right, Craig, we'll see him.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: You bet you can hear Craig Wednesday night as Texas
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: takes on Arkansas and Fayetteville.
- 1:21:47Speaker 7: He will not be on The Craigway Show this week.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: It will be Andrew Simmle starting tomorrow through Friday, and
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: then next Monday will also be out because well, Craig
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: and I will be in Starkfille, Mississippi, as Texas takes
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: on the Bulldog. So Craig will be gone from the
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: Craigway Show for a little bit. I believe next Wednesday
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: we both will be in studio, but we'll have to
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: double check our travel schedules. We'll continue here on this
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Monday afternoon on thirteen hundred the Zone, and we're.
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: Back to the Craigway Show.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Have a message for Craig, share it by using the
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app.
- 1:22:28Speaker 7: Thanks to Craig Wave for.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: Calling in on his journey back from Arlington, Texas to Austin, Texas.
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: A short journey, a short stay in Austin.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: He's gonna be here for one night and then the
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: men's basketball team of Texas travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas. Speaking
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: of traveling, our own Roger Wallace is joining us from Athens, Georgia,
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: as the Texas women's basketball team takes on the Bulldogs
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: tonight five forty five pm airtime, six o'clock tip off
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: from Athens, Georgia, and in the break Roger and I
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: we we're discussing. Now Craig makes his stop on the road.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: He's usually it's going to be a Starbucks. But Roger Wallace,
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: I think you would have stopped somewhere differently.
- 1:23:07Speaker 12: Well, we figured out at least I think I know
- 1:23:09Speaker 12: where he stopped. And he'll go to Starbucks and I'll
- 1:23:11Speaker 12: run across the parking lot and I'll go over to QT.
- 1:23:14Speaker 8: I get the cold drink. He likes to get the
- 1:23:16Speaker 8: warmer drink.
- 1:23:17Speaker 12: But yeah, we spent a lot of time on the
- 1:23:19Speaker 12: road together and kind of getting in each other's rhythm
- 1:23:22Speaker 12: of what we like. But yeah, we've done that more
- 1:23:25Speaker 12: than a couple of times.
- 1:23:26Speaker 7: And your cold drink diet coke, right.
- 1:23:29Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, I'm ashamed to say too much of it,
- 1:23:32Speaker 12: but you know, everybody's got.
- 1:23:33Speaker 8: To have some vice.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: It's not a nice coffee, it's not a mocha frappe,
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: it's a diet coke.
- 1:23:38Speaker 12: It's all about the ice. CAM got to get the
- 1:23:40Speaker 12: good crushed ice.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: So Texas takes on Georgia tonight, and Texas finds themselves
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: to top the polls for the first time in twenty
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: one years Roger course, with Notre Dame losing the NC
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: State and overtime, I'm curious. I don't know if you
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: guys had landed yet by the time in NC State
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: to pull off the upset. But did Vic Shaeffer in
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: his STAF make any note about be number one yesterday.
- 1:24:03Speaker 7: Or today leading up to this game?
- 1:24:04Speaker 12: You know, it's funny because yeah, we left kind of late,
- 1:24:07Speaker 12: so the game was over. But I talked to Vic
- 1:24:09Speaker 12: last night after their shoot around and you know, asked him,
- 1:24:12Speaker 12: you know, how does that play into anything? And basically
- 1:24:16Speaker 12: he said, it's naive to think that our kids aren't
- 1:24:18Speaker 12: aware of it and all that.
- 1:24:19Speaker 8: But other than that, you.
- 1:24:21Speaker 12: Know, I don't think there's been any discussion other than
- 1:24:24Speaker 12: you know, all the cliches bes B Texas and things
- 1:24:27Speaker 12: like that and everything will take care of themselves. But
- 1:24:29Speaker 12: sure it's on their mind. It's all over social media,
- 1:24:32Speaker 12: first time in twenty one years, so you know, these
- 1:24:35Speaker 12: kids are only human coaching staff as well taking on
- 1:24:38Speaker 12: a Georgia team cam obviously struggling. I think that's the
- 1:24:41Speaker 12: more important thing, is keeping that focus like they had
- 1:24:44Speaker 12: for that stretch of.
- 1:24:45Speaker 8: Games against ranked teams. Now you're taking on a team
- 1:24:47Speaker 8: with just two conference wins.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so seven days off, because last time Texas played
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: was against LSU, that comfort behind victory. I don't think
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Texas could have shot the ball worse, but still somehow
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: pulled out the win over number five Bellas an entire
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: week off, and we saw the effect it could have
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: because the Texas men seem go to Columbia South Carolina
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: after a week off, a team that had not won
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: a game yet in league play, and they end up
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: losing my fifteen points.
- 1:25:13Speaker 12: Yeah, and I'm sure he's pulling out everything being Vick
- 1:25:16Speaker 12: Shaefer that he can to make sure they're motivated.
- 1:25:19Speaker 8: They went really hard this morning.
- 1:25:21Speaker 12: Fortunately for Texas, as we know cam, they can win
- 1:25:24Speaker 12: in a lot of different ways, and they can win
- 1:25:26Speaker 12: shooting the ball poorly because their defense is so suffocating.
- 1:25:30Speaker 12: They can shoot twenty one out of twenty one from
- 1:25:32Speaker 12: the free throw line like they did against LSU. So
- 1:25:36Speaker 12: I think the fact that they have a lot of
- 1:25:38Speaker 12: different ways to beat you help the interesting to see
- 1:25:41Speaker 12: the start that Madison Booker gets off to, because again
- 1:25:44Speaker 12: it's just been against these top ten teams. The shooting
- 1:25:48Speaker 12: has been a little bit more of a struggle from
- 1:25:50Speaker 12: the field for Booker, but she's so good in so
- 1:25:54Speaker 12: many different ways that just be interesting.
- 1:25:56Speaker 8: To see how she gets out of the gates here.
- 1:26:00Speaker 12: It's gonna be one of those games where, you know,
- 1:26:01Speaker 12: it's another cliche, you don't want to let Georgia hang
- 1:26:04Speaker 12: around and get some confidence. They've you know, just have
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: one conference winning like their last seven. They had a
- 1:26:09Speaker 12: buzzer beater against Missouri and they beat Arkansas. But I'll
- 1:26:13Speaker 12: be interested to see how the first five six minutes
- 1:26:15Speaker 12: goes because, as you mentioned with the men, that didn't
- 1:26:18Speaker 12: go well, and you know, I don't know if you
- 1:26:20Speaker 12: attributed to the layoff or whatever, but I'm sure the
- 1:26:23Speaker 12: coaches will be keeping a close eye on that.
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, especially considering Texas goes from playing four straight top
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: twenty five teams, three inside the top ten, two inside
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: the top five and winning all four of those games,
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: and what was probably very physical games but also emotional games.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: I mean, you know, Fix Shaffer came over to us
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: postgame for South Carolina LSU with tears in his eye,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: So you have an emotional and possibly a physical layover
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: to now facing a Georgia team that comes in maybe
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: under the radar.
- 1:26:52Speaker 12: Yeah, and George's played a lot of good competition. This
- 1:26:55Speaker 12: is the fourth top ten opponent in the last five,
- 1:26:57Speaker 12: so you know, on the flip side, they're probably a
- 1:27:00Speaker 12: little bit banged up mentally because they haven't had much success, losing,
- 1:27:04Speaker 12: like I said, nine of their last ten and this
- 1:27:07Speaker 12: is just one. All things equal, you would think Texas
- 1:27:11Speaker 12: is the better team by a significant amount. But what
- 1:27:14Speaker 12: happens early? Does somebody get into foul trouble? You know,
- 1:27:17Speaker 12: something unusual happened to to allow.
- 1:27:20Speaker 8: Georgia to hang around.
- 1:27:21Speaker 12: They've got a couple of really good freshmen, the Trinity Turners,
- 1:27:25Speaker 12: a freshmen leading them and scoring that hasn't happened in
- 1:27:28Speaker 12: twenty one years. So you know, this is this is
- 1:27:31Speaker 12: a great chance for Georgia.
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: What do they care?
- 1:27:33Speaker 12: You know, they got a chance to knock off now
- 1:27:35Speaker 12: number one. I'm sure they were thrilled that Texas moved up.
- 1:27:37Speaker 8: To number one. Now they've got their their shot.
- 1:27:40Speaker 12: And you know, this is one of those standalone SEC
- 1:27:42Speaker 12: women's games because typically everybody plays on Sunday except one game,
- 1:27:46Speaker 12: and they hold that for Monday and Texas is the
- 1:27:48Speaker 12: only other Monday game during this you know, second half
- 1:27:51Speaker 12: of the season's been that Maryland game in Newark, so
- 1:27:54Speaker 12: it wasn't a conference game, So that's another reason why
- 1:27:56Speaker 12: the layoff has.
- 1:27:57Speaker 8: Been a little bit longer.
- 1:27:58Speaker 12: But you know, we'll see if Texas just too good
- 1:28:02Speaker 12: or if somehow Georgia finds a way to hang around.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: And even after this game to night, Roger, I'm guessing
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: you guys are gonna get back into Austin probably around
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: midnight one am. The team leaves Wednesday at noon for
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: Starkfille and what will be an emotional return for Fix Schaeffer.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: So it's going to be a tight travel schedule for
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: long Horns this week.
- 1:28:20Speaker 12: Yeah, and you know, you close out the regular season
- 1:28:23Speaker 12: with three and seven and then an emotional Senior Day
- 1:28:26Speaker 12: on Sunday against Florida.
- 1:28:28Speaker 8: And oh, by the way, if they.
- 1:28:29Speaker 12: Take care of their business, they're guaranteed at least a
- 1:28:31Speaker 12: piece of an SEC championship. So, you know, so much
- 1:28:35Speaker 12: on the line for this team, and one little slip
- 1:28:38Speaker 12: up and things can kind of change dramatically, including you know,
- 1:28:42Speaker 12: the overall seeding where Texas, let's be honest, they want
- 1:28:44Speaker 12: to be in Birmingham. Assuming they win their first two
- 1:28:47Speaker 12: games in the tournament rather than going out to Spokane.
- 1:28:49Speaker 12: If they can hold onto this ranking, they should get
- 1:28:52Speaker 12: that slot in Birmingham. Of course we got the SEC tournament.
- 1:28:55Speaker 12: Not sure what happens there. And then the other thing
- 1:28:57Speaker 12: is you could have three number one from this part
- 1:28:59Speaker 12: of the country, you know, Texas to the east, and
- 1:29:02Speaker 12: what do they do. They got to send somebody out west,
- 1:29:04Speaker 12: you assume with UCLA as a number one, So you know,
- 1:29:08Speaker 12: that'll be a concerning thing, I think, because I think
- 1:29:11Speaker 12: VIC finally thinks, okay, we've got the resume not to
- 1:29:14Speaker 12: have to go out to the west coast.
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: There'll be a five forty five pm airtime, six o'clock
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: tip off Roger Wallace and Kathy Arson on the call,
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: and you can listen to it on one on three one,
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: Austin's eighty station.
- 1:29:24Speaker 7: Roger, look forward to it.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: All right, Thanks Cam, All right, Roger Wallace joining us
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: live from the Stegman Coliseum in Aptons, Georgia. We'll be
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: back to wrap up today's edition to the Craigways Show
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: after this
