- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one Piece episodes six ninety seven through six ninety nine,
- 0:16Speaker 1: One Shot, One Kill, the Man who will save Dress, Rosa,
- 0:22Speaker 1: anger erupts, loufy in Law's ultimate stratagem, and a noble family,
- 0:28Speaker 1: the true identity of Dove Flamingo. In these episodes, we
- 0:35Speaker 1: get a really incredible plan from USAP, like, truly amazing.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I love it so much. We get to see what
- 0:42Speaker 1: it was that Lufi and Law had planned, which actually
- 0:46Speaker 1: pretty solid idea. Too bad it didn't work, and then
- 0:50Speaker 1: me find out exactly why it is that do Flamingo
- 0:53Speaker 1: wants to destroy the world, I guess. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:22Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. What's up,
- 1:25Speaker 1: Florian if you're out there. Yeah, these episodes were gripping, guys.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I was so pleased too that a big part of
- 1:36Speaker 1: what was incredibly riveting was involving us up, because you know,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I have just felt so frustrated at the character assassination
- 1:49Speaker 1: that he had to endure, and I was very pleased
- 1:54Speaker 1: that he gets such a starring role in something really
- 1:57Speaker 1: important here that he not only manages to pull off,
- 2:01Speaker 1: but that also once we get to see what it is,
- 2:05Speaker 1: it's like genuinely amazing. It's hilarious and I wasn't expecting
- 2:13Speaker 1: it at all at all at all, Like this is you, guys.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I've said this so many times before, but like, once
- 2:20Speaker 1: you've started to cover as much stuff as I do
- 2:22Speaker 1: the way that I do, it can get harder and
- 2:25Speaker 1: harder for anybody to surprise me. Because you know, there's
- 2:29Speaker 1: so many tropes, and like, I think that tropes is
- 2:33Speaker 1: a word that unfortunately gets used a lot to be
- 2:36Speaker 1: a synonym with like lazy, and I don't think that's
- 2:40Speaker 1: true at all. Tropes are there because they are like effective,
- 2:45Speaker 1: successful storytelling devices. There's nothing wrong with tropes, but you
- 2:52Speaker 1: can be lazy with them. And there are plenty of
- 2:58Speaker 1: times where subverting a trope to subvert it is just
- 3:01Speaker 1: as like pointless as following a trope to the letter.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But this whole bit is so like there are so
- 3:11Speaker 1: many moments that I really was just like, I really
- 3:13Speaker 1: don't know what's gonna happen here, you know, and I
- 3:16Speaker 1: don't feel like that that often. So let's start off Episodes,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Episode six ninety seven, one Shot, one Kill the Man
- 3:28Speaker 1: who will save Dress Rosa. Picking up where we left off,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Oosop is in his position as the sniper and is like,
- 3:38Speaker 1: this is where I shine, I take out enemies from
- 3:41Speaker 1: Afar and protect my team. And I don't know why
- 3:45Speaker 1: they had him like dripping from his nose when he
- 3:49Speaker 1: says this, because it just felt sort of like it
- 3:52Speaker 1: took away the dignity of the moment. To me, I
- 3:55Speaker 1: was very much into this, like on his behalf like
- 4:00Speaker 1: for him. I felt like I was ready to just
- 4:05Speaker 1: be like, all right, be the badass, come in and
- 4:09Speaker 1: really do something, you know. And I just don't understand
- 4:13Speaker 1: why they did it that way. I was like, well,
- 4:16Speaker 1: what did you do to deserve that? Guys, just let
- 4:18Speaker 1: him be like a badass with no drippy nose for
- 4:20Speaker 1: a second. Makes him look very childish. So Viola, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: she's in her position as the the clairvoyant that's going
- 4:30Speaker 1: to tell him exactly where sugar is inside the like
- 4:36Speaker 1: grounds of the palace. Now we have this whole thing
- 4:42Speaker 1: with the king. He is talking about how I'm gonna
- 4:50Speaker 1: get to the spot where he actually says it, because
- 4:52Speaker 1: I want to make sure I get his wording right.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So these men are climbing up this like weird net
- 4:59Speaker 1: that Kinimon no Kinimon's friend made, and he says, like,
- 5:07Speaker 1: without harming a single one will stop them, and another
- 5:12Speaker 1: guy says, I think that's easier said than done. Then
- 5:15Speaker 1: the king says, we have no other choice. The last
- 5:17Speaker 1: thing I wish to do is hurt my people further
- 5:19Speaker 1: by playing into do Flamingo's wretched game. All we need
- 5:23Speaker 1: to do is stall time while they aim, and this like,
- 5:30Speaker 1: eventually he does begin to actually fight, but so so
- 5:38Speaker 1: my my instinct at first was when he began to
- 5:41Speaker 1: fight was that he had realized I can't just do
- 5:44Speaker 1: this with without any injury to anybody. That's not possible.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And then I started to realize that like probably the
- 5:57Speaker 1: people that are coming after him and the other straw
- 6:00Speaker 1: hats are seen as like the pirates only, and that
- 6:07Speaker 1: the folks who are residents of dress Rosa are seen
- 6:10Speaker 1: as the people that he is trying to protect. Right,
- 6:15Speaker 1: so he's he When he was saying this, he wasn't
- 6:17Speaker 1: saying like, we can't fight anybody. He was saying, we
- 6:24Speaker 1: have to protect my people, but if necessary, we can
- 6:31Speaker 1: injure the people that are trying to actually like cash
- 6:35Speaker 1: in on these bounties, right, I just want to because
- 6:38Speaker 1: I keep thinking of everybody who isn't the straw hats
- 6:41Speaker 1: as a monolith basically is where I'm at, you know,
- 6:45Speaker 1: And I'm realizing that's not necessarily how it is at all,
- 6:50Speaker 1: and not necessarily how he sees it. So I just
- 6:54Speaker 1: kind of want to get it straight that he every
- 7:00Speaker 1: What I want to know is that things went to
- 7:03Speaker 1: plan in his eyes versus did he start off with
- 7:08Speaker 1: an ideal that he wasn't able to live up to
- 7:11Speaker 1: and wound up having to compromise what he had intended.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That's really where I'm sort of like, you know what
- 7:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. I just want to know how, by the
- 7:22Speaker 1: end of this how he is going to feel. Is
- 7:25Speaker 1: he going to have guilt over the fact that he
- 7:28Speaker 1: had wound up having to like beat the shit out
- 7:31Speaker 1: of some folks, or is this pretty much what he
- 7:34Speaker 1: had expected and he's fine with this and I am.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know, the rest of this episode is pretty much
- 7:42Speaker 1: almost entirely taken up with the build up of Sugar
- 7:48Speaker 1: coming out, and and I keep wanting to say, Sandy
- 7:54Speaker 1: and Oos up having to take this shot at her,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and it is there's a moment, you guys. And it
- 8:03Speaker 1: took me a second to realize that what we were
- 8:07Speaker 1: seeing was like us Up's imagination, because I was genuinely
- 8:14Speaker 1: thinking this had happened. But we see Sugar touch Loofy,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and what us up like, I think it's supposed to
- 8:26Speaker 1: be that he takes a shot, it doesn't hit, and
- 8:30Speaker 1: so he is like imagining what happens if he fails
- 8:35Speaker 1: to like get the shot exactly right, or he took
- 8:40Speaker 1: the shot and it didn't go right, Like yeah, no,
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's it's an imagination because he's still in position here.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I for a second really did think that Lufy had
- 8:50Speaker 1: been touched by Sugar, And you know what, guys, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: a little bit was disappointed that that wasn't what had happened.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, It would have been a major
- 9:08Speaker 1: pain in the ass, but I would be really interested
- 9:12Speaker 1: to see what happened. I will admit that that's like
- 9:17Speaker 1: purely it it's sort of There's a book that I
- 9:20Speaker 1: covered way back, a book series, the Dandelion Dynasty series,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and one of the things that the main character says
- 9:31Speaker 1: is to always do the most interesting thing, And I
- 9:37Speaker 1: can't help but feel having everybody forget Lufy would have
- 9:43Speaker 1: been the most interesting thing to do here. There's a
- 9:46Speaker 1: big part of me that feels like a lot of
- 9:51Speaker 1: potential was there to see who our characters are when
- 9:55Speaker 1: Lufy isn't the one that's like handling them. And and
- 10:00Speaker 1: it's not like I don't mean to say that that
- 10:05Speaker 1: I want like you know what I'm saying. It's just
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's I think that everybody's orbiting around Loofy in such
- 10:15Speaker 1: a way that finding out exactly who they are as
- 10:22Speaker 1: a group, but without him, it's a different thing than
- 10:26Speaker 1: finding out who they are individually, because we have the
- 10:29Speaker 1: two years where they're apart and they're all developing their
- 10:32Speaker 1: own skills and getting really specialized training and all of that.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But that is different. The one that I am wanting
- 10:46Speaker 1: to see is like, how do we function as a
- 10:49Speaker 1: group when it's not even like, oh, our common goal
- 10:54Speaker 1: is Loofy even though that he isn't here because Lufy
- 10:57Speaker 1: gets separated from our group a whole lot. That's just
- 11:00Speaker 1: the way the story often has to work, and so
- 11:05Speaker 1: like taking him out of the equation doesn't really serve
- 11:09Speaker 1: to show me what I'm talking about here, because they
- 11:13Speaker 1: still are trying to facilitate whatever the plan is that
- 11:17Speaker 1: Lufy has come up with, or they are still trying
- 11:20Speaker 1: to buy time for him to like go up against
- 11:23Speaker 1: the big bad. There's like all different kinds of ways
- 11:26Speaker 1: that this that his continued existence influences them so profoundly
- 11:34Speaker 1: that removing him personally doesn't really alter anything. But what
- 11:40Speaker 1: would happen if they all forgot him and yet they
- 11:46Speaker 1: remembered one another, And how would they work together as
- 11:48Speaker 1: a group, and would this work out anyway? It's almost
- 11:51Speaker 1: surprising to me that he doesn't get touched by Sugar,
- 11:54Speaker 1: also due to the fact that Loufy It is so
- 12:01Speaker 1: often sidelined by the storyline explicitly so that our friends
- 12:06Speaker 1: have to carry on without his help. I got to
- 12:11Speaker 1: a point while watching this, because it gets drawn out
- 12:13Speaker 1: so much that I genuinely started to expect that this
- 12:17Speaker 1: was going to be the next beat in this arc.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Was that Lufy gets very close to do Flamingo, he
- 12:26Speaker 1: gets touched, everybody forgets him, and then everyone has to
- 12:31Speaker 1: begin to work on their own in a very different way,
- 12:35Speaker 1: still against dofl Mingo, because Saraphim in the chat last
- 12:39Speaker 1: time was talking about how like these people have the
- 12:42Speaker 1: straw Hats have all been informed about what's going on separately,
- 12:51Speaker 1: and so they even like away from do fla Mingo
- 12:56Speaker 1: or even away from Luf, would still understand do Fla
- 12:59Speaker 1: Mingo as a threat. They would still be probably like
- 13:05Speaker 1: fighting the good fight, you know. I feel like I
- 13:12Speaker 1: want this established that Loufy is the heart of the
- 13:20Speaker 1: straw Hats. Of course, right, I'm not debating that. I
- 13:25Speaker 1: don't want Loofy out of the picture, but I can't
- 13:30Speaker 1: help but think that, like it might be good for
- 13:34Speaker 1: our people to realize that even if Lufy weren't with
- 13:39Speaker 1: them anymore, they are still capable of like really incredible
- 13:42Speaker 1: things and capable of working together. I just think that
- 13:47Speaker 1: might be great for overall confidence. I'm not sure if
- 13:50Speaker 1: that's really necessary, but and like I said, just a
- 13:55Speaker 1: means of getting our getting our big bad man who
- 14:03Speaker 1: has so much power sidelined in a way that's like
- 14:07Speaker 1: distressing effective and also like something that is a goal.
- 14:16Speaker 1: But it's kind of interesting because it would be a
- 14:18Speaker 1: goal that the straw Hats aren't even aware of because
- 14:22Speaker 1: they don't remember Luthy and so they don't remember that
- 14:26Speaker 1: they need to rescue him. They would just be trying
- 14:29Speaker 1: to take down Sugar because they remember other things that
- 14:32Speaker 1: she's done. So eventually they could fulfill this and it
- 14:37Speaker 1: would be accidental that they save Lufy. But you know
- 14:41Speaker 1: what I'm saying, I just I'm going off on this
- 14:44Speaker 1: as like all this potential, and for all I know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: in two more episodes she will touch him and all
- 14:49Speaker 1: of this will come to pass. I don't know, but
- 14:53Speaker 1: I guess I just wanted to make it clear that,
- 14:55Speaker 1: like for myself, I really would have been okay with
- 14:59Speaker 1: it if she had gotten to touch him. I don't
- 15:02Speaker 1: think it would have bothered me for the story to
- 15:04Speaker 1: go in that direction. At the same time, though, I
- 15:10Speaker 1: really did want us Up to finally have a real
- 15:15Speaker 1: win that felt like it was on purpose and not
- 15:17Speaker 1: just accidentally. He managed to take Sugar down because he
- 15:21Speaker 1: ate something spicy and screamed in her face, because that
- 15:24Speaker 1: was a victory that he gets credited with, but it's
- 15:27Speaker 1: really not anything like you know what I'm saying. So
- 15:31Speaker 1: I was very torn on this, wanting to feel like
- 15:35Speaker 1: Usup is really truly saving the day and doing it
- 15:39Speaker 1: of course in a way that's like particularly niche to
- 15:44Speaker 1: his skill set as a sniper is really satisfying and
- 15:49Speaker 1: then wanting to do the most interesting thing. So this
- 15:56Speaker 1: the way that Sugar plays this. I said last time
- 15:59Speaker 1: how unnerving I find her, and this episode made her
- 16:04Speaker 1: even more so because I just don't think about First
- 16:11Speaker 1: of all, I've said this already about how initially I
- 16:15Speaker 1: was sort of, oh, is she going to turn out
- 16:18Speaker 1: to be like used by everybody because she's so young
- 16:21Speaker 1: and it's like the love. Then we find out that
- 16:24Speaker 1: she's like much older than she looks and none of
- 16:26Speaker 1: that is actually applicable, and so you know, of course
- 16:31Speaker 1: I get to thinking like maybe it's annoying for her
- 16:34Speaker 1: to be seen as a young kid, but she uses
- 16:38Speaker 1: being seen as a child as a weapon in this episode,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and they have her saying to herself like, which I'm
- 16:47Speaker 1: grateful for because this had not occurred to me. Neither
- 16:52Speaker 1: law nor Loofy has ever laid eyes on her before.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So she comes in there like basically cold, and they
- 17:03Speaker 1: don't know what to make of her at all, and
- 17:06Speaker 1: I I'll tell you what, guys, when she comes out
- 17:09Speaker 1: and she's just crying. I really thought this was gonna
- 17:14Speaker 1: be very, very bad, And it is so gratifying and
- 17:20Speaker 1: delightful that both Loofy and Law they're not sure what
- 17:25Speaker 1: her deal is, but they seem to know good and
- 17:28Speaker 1: god damn well that she isn't what she looks like.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And I just personally it was a really wonderful moment
- 17:37Speaker 1: because I was so concerned that this was going to
- 17:40Speaker 1: work off the bat. When they both are sort of like, nah, sorry,
- 17:45Speaker 1: you're gonna have to find your own way out of here,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I'm like, amazing, let's move on. And then she used
- 17:51Speaker 1: to pull out her fucking grapes and offer Loofy food,
- 17:54Speaker 1: and I was so annoyed. I was like, I really
- 17:59Speaker 1: thought we were in the clear here. I thought we
- 18:00Speaker 1: were done. She's pulling out food that's a wrap on this.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I don't see him like walking away from that, And
- 18:09Speaker 1: instead it's not like he walks away from that, but
- 18:11Speaker 1: it is like it takes a long time for him
- 18:17Speaker 1: to fully like come forward to accept what she's offering.
- 18:22Speaker 1: And of course, like Law is getting really impatient and
- 18:28Speaker 1: irritated with him. It's so funny like she decides to
- 18:32Speaker 1: sort of play it as I'm a little kid who
- 18:35Speaker 1: is scared and upset, so I'm gonna point at this
- 18:39Speaker 1: guy and like yell about how he's a mean man.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And so later on when Lufy is just like, what's
- 18:47Speaker 1: your problem, She's just trying to share. It pays off
- 18:51Speaker 1: that she has like pointed out Law as the one
- 18:55Speaker 1: that isn't nice, because now Lufy already is sort of
- 18:58Speaker 1: feeling like a way about it, and it ties in
- 19:00Speaker 1: with that, so she manages to sort of like pull
- 19:04Speaker 1: it for a second, like her and Lufy are on
- 19:06Speaker 1: the same side against Law, And this is the moment
- 19:13Speaker 1: where you think you're seeing her actually turn loofy, and
- 19:18Speaker 1: then it turns out to be a false alarm, thank goodness.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But on the other side of things, oos Up is
- 19:29Speaker 1: still gearing up. He is being guarded by everybody who's
- 19:34Speaker 1: fighting all of these dudes who are finally like coming
- 19:37Speaker 1: up over the edge of the plateau and starting to attack.
- 19:42Speaker 1: We get more of like the fun defense from the
- 19:45Speaker 1: guys who had all been part of the arena fighting,
- 19:49Speaker 1: which I'm just really pleased there is something more going
- 19:55Speaker 1: on with them that makes it pay off later for
- 19:58Speaker 1: me to have watched that arena fight. I don't I
- 20:04Speaker 1: won't go so far as to say it makes it
- 20:06Speaker 1: worth it, because I think there was a much shorter, simpler,
- 20:12Speaker 1: easier way to set all of that up than what
- 20:15Speaker 1: we got. That said, it is still feel like nice
- 20:21Speaker 1: to feel like in the midst of all of this chaos,
- 20:24Speaker 1: we don't have to stop and do introductions. You know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: we're getting just as much info as we got the
- 20:31Speaker 1: info that we didn't need at the time, and now
- 20:34Speaker 1: it's sort of paying off although it was so long ago.
- 20:37Speaker 1: At this point, I'm watching these so close together, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 1: it's like basically the equivalent of watching an episode a
- 20:45Speaker 1: day due to how I cover it. I can't help
- 20:49Speaker 1: but wonder when people are watching these in real time,
- 20:53Speaker 1: do they ever have like moments where they genuinely don't
- 20:56Speaker 1: remember who a person is anymore. It can be really
- 20:59Speaker 1: overwhelming to me how many different characters there are, And
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm like, you guys are able to remember, but I
- 21:07Speaker 1: sort of take it for granted, and I'm not sure
- 21:09Speaker 1: this is true that you all are able to Like,
- 21:15Speaker 1: you guys can remember all these names and everything due
- 21:18Speaker 1: to the fact that you have watched this series more
- 21:22Speaker 1: than once. And I'm not sure if that's really how
- 21:27Speaker 1: this works or not. Is that true that you've watched
- 21:30Speaker 1: it more than once? Am? I Like, I feel like
- 21:33Speaker 1: there's no way you remember absolutely everybody's names the way
- 21:36Speaker 1: a lot of you do, and it's only through like
- 21:40Speaker 1: one or two viewings. I feel like it's gotta be repeated.
- 21:45Speaker 1: But I don't know. Maybe I'm just not giving like
- 21:50Speaker 1: there are plenty of people out there who are way
- 21:52Speaker 1: better with names than me, Thank god, because if you weren't,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I don't know how the society would function. So it's
- 21:58Speaker 1: possible that I'm just like projecting my own weaknesses regarding
- 22:02Speaker 1: remembering names onto everybody, and it's not like that for
- 22:05Speaker 1: a lot of you. But anyway, so we get to
- 22:10Speaker 1: see like that king that's doing the punching and that
- 22:14Speaker 1: giant gets attacked by There's there's that dude don do
- 22:18Speaker 1: Flamingo's team who's always like, we are going to fight,
- 22:22Speaker 1: we're fighting, you know. He talks like that I don't
- 22:25Speaker 1: remember his name, but he comes down on one dude
- 22:27Speaker 1: like a fucking uh. He's basically turns himself into like
- 22:34Speaker 1: a meteor, which is uh, pretty wild looking. But all
- 22:41Speaker 1: of this fighting, it's like they're barely able to keep
- 22:44Speaker 1: everybody off of us up for long enough for him
- 22:47Speaker 1: to pull this off. In the end, they are, but
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's a very very close thing, and so once usup,
- 22:55Speaker 1: let's loose his missile. This is the part that really
- 22:59Speaker 1: impress me, you guys, because like drawing out him actually
- 23:04Speaker 1: firing was for me frustrating, Like I definitely had a
- 23:09Speaker 1: moment of like, oh my god, can we fucking get
- 23:12Speaker 1: to it already? But once it's fired and he's being
- 23:16Speaker 1: like grappled with and dragged to the ground and he
- 23:20Speaker 1: is thinking through like the first phase and how it's
- 23:24Speaker 1: going to like drop part of its shell and then
- 23:26Speaker 1: continue on and sort of change direction and stuff, I
- 23:32Speaker 1: was enchanted. I really was. I loved the the overall
- 23:39Speaker 1: like pulling us out of the moment a little bit
- 23:44Speaker 1: where he is being wrestled and going into his head.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I liked the way that they did the sound and
- 23:51Speaker 1: they really pull back on the background noise and focus
- 23:53Speaker 1: in on the sound of the missile itself. I loved
- 23:56Speaker 1: that it has these different phases because I wasn't ex
- 24:00Speaker 1: that I thought it was just going to be like
- 24:01Speaker 1: a pretty straightforward shot. And more than anything, I loved
- 24:08Speaker 1: what this missile turns out to be because really, what
- 24:13Speaker 1: I kept thinking to myself was, even if Oosup doesn't
- 24:19Speaker 1: actually hit Sugar, as long as he interrupts them all,
- 24:25Speaker 1: it's probably still going to be effective, right, just distracting
- 24:29Speaker 1: everybody and shaking things up enough that that Loofy and
- 24:35Speaker 1: Law sort of back away, or even if it landed
- 24:40Speaker 1: like between them and blew Up. I was sort of thinking, like,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you could miss and it might still really help. But
- 24:50Speaker 1: I hadn't counted on her pretending to be a little kid.
- 24:55Speaker 1: So if she's pretending to be a child and there's
- 24:58Speaker 1: like a detonation, that really does sort of change what
- 25:03Speaker 1: the possibilities could be, because like if they are thinking
- 25:08Speaker 1: somebody is coming down with ammunition, like from above somehow,
- 25:12Speaker 1: or like sending missiles, I could see them kind of oh, well,
- 25:18Speaker 1: maybe this isn't a little kid, or maybe this doesn't
- 25:20Speaker 1: make a lot of sense, but we really should protect
- 25:22Speaker 1: her anyway, and sort of grabbing her for her own safety,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and thinking that they're doing the right thing that maybe
- 25:31Speaker 1: if he misses, that actually drives them toward touching her
- 25:35Speaker 1: rather than the opposite. So once she began to act
- 25:38Speaker 1: like a kid, I started to really be like, oh shit,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I had sort of been sitting back, feeling confident that
- 25:45Speaker 1: even if he didn't like get a perfect shot, it
- 25:48Speaker 1: would still be something. Now I don't know that that's
- 25:52Speaker 1: how that would work. And it turns out I didn't
- 25:57Speaker 1: have to worry about any of that because Usav had
- 25:59Speaker 1: something very in mind. So earlier on in the episode,
- 26:08Speaker 1: he Oosup is talking to Kinemon's friend whose name I
- 26:13Speaker 1: will eventually remember. And you know, this guy can paint
- 26:17Speaker 1: things and then make them into three dimensional like alive
- 26:22Speaker 1: sometimes objects. At the end of a previous episode, us
- 26:27Speaker 1: Up is over there looking at that bird and gets
- 26:29Speaker 1: this expression on his face. And I fully thought this
- 26:33Speaker 1: meant that he was going to use the bird to
- 26:35Speaker 1: transport the missile somehow, that he was going to make
- 26:37Speaker 1: something and it would like the bird would carry it
- 26:40Speaker 1: and drop it on their head. And I was telling
- 26:42Speaker 1: all of you that I really did not want him
- 26:44Speaker 1: to put this bird through anything more, and that it
- 26:46Speaker 1: needed a rest and please don't Well, as it turns out,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I didn't have to worry because that was not his
- 26:53Speaker 1: intention at all. He looks at that bird this way
- 26:55Speaker 1: because it is giving him an idea for something else
- 26:58Speaker 1: that this guy can raw and create and what it
- 27:02Speaker 1: is is Usup's terrified face, his uh jack in the
- 27:09Speaker 1: box facial attack or whatever it was that he called it.
- 27:13Speaker 1: He gets this man, and we don't see it, so
- 27:17Speaker 1: it's a huge surprise. We just see him talking to
- 27:20Speaker 1: Kiniman and his friend and him saying like, see, doesn't
- 27:23Speaker 1: it look perfect, and Kiniman says something like I would disagree.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I think it looks quite unhealthy or something like that,
- 27:31Speaker 1: and that's all you get. So eventually when the reveal happens,
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's like, oh, okay, I see what that was about.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And yeah, he has made this like three D model
- 27:44Speaker 1: of his own face that he had already scared her with,
- 27:48Speaker 1: which works perfectly as we know, because she's experiencing like
- 27:53Speaker 1: PTSD from it. Now. Us Up would not know this,
- 27:58Speaker 1: would like that this is the case for her, right,
- 28:01Speaker 1: He does not know that she is experiencing this PTSD.
- 28:04Speaker 1: He is just relying on the fact that she still
- 28:08Speaker 1: has trauma. I really don't care. This is the kind
- 28:12Speaker 1: of thing where if I felt like being a real nitpicker,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I could and that would be valid. But I am
- 28:20Speaker 1: so pleased with the overall effect of the surprise that
- 28:26Speaker 1: to me, it's really worth it that this ends up
- 28:31Speaker 1: the way that it does. So it's not that she
- 28:35Speaker 1: has to get hit with a missile, it's that she
- 28:38Speaker 1: gets surprised again, which causes her to once again pass out.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And you guys talking about the things that I wasn't
- 28:48Speaker 1: like fully understanding, let's bring up this one as well.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Your girl didn't even remember that if Sugar passed out again,
- 28:58Speaker 1: it would also take care of the headcracker dolls that
- 29:03Speaker 1: are attacking our other friends a little bit further down
- 29:06Speaker 1: that plateau. I didn't even think of that. So it's
- 29:10Speaker 1: a good thing that Oosap is more on top of
- 29:13Speaker 1: shit than I am, because I very much was like
- 29:17Speaker 1: not keeping the whole big picture in mind, and I
- 29:22Speaker 1: felt very silly once I remembered, like, oh, yeah, she's
- 29:25Speaker 1: also doing this. So when she gets knocked out, all
- 29:31Speaker 1: of these other guys are handled, they all go down
- 29:35Speaker 1: and they are like they start falling apart. It's a
- 29:39Speaker 1: very different effect than the other times that we've seen
- 29:42Speaker 1: people who were turned into toys turned back into human beings.
- 29:46Speaker 1: And it takes a second. I was starting to almost think, like,
- 29:49Speaker 1: are we going to get that they've been chopped in
- 29:53Speaker 1: pieces so many times that even when they're turned back
- 29:56Speaker 1: to humans, they're still dead because they've and basically dismembered.
- 30:02Speaker 1: You know, I thought it was gonna be kind of dark, potentially,
- 30:07Speaker 1: it is not. It turns out to just be what
- 30:10Speaker 1: it looks like, which is there turning back into human beings.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But I guess the way that she turned them into toys,
- 30:17Speaker 1: it's treated a little bit as if like the central
- 30:20Speaker 1: area of their body, like their torso and head, is
- 30:23Speaker 1: really the part that was human, and then the part
- 30:27Speaker 1: that is the legs and like that part that falls
- 30:32Speaker 1: off is sort of extras that she added on to
- 30:34Speaker 1: increase their size. I maybe kind of off on that,
- 30:37Speaker 1: but it really doesn't matter. That's sort of how I
- 30:39Speaker 1: interpreted it. And yeah, all of these guys like they
- 30:43Speaker 1: turned back into humans, and reminder that I can't remember
- 30:49Speaker 1: his name. I keep wanting to say, Maximus Gladius. He's
- 30:52Speaker 1: there when they turned back, and all of these guys
- 30:56Speaker 1: are like, oh my god, I was turned into a toy.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I didn't know what was going on. And he says
- 31:01Speaker 1: to them like, don't be ridiculous. Of course, we were
- 31:04Speaker 1: going to turn you back as soon as the war
- 31:07Speaker 1: was over or whatever. As soon as the fighting was done,
- 31:10Speaker 1: and all of them are like, yeah, you mean it,
- 31:12Speaker 1: and it's just oh, sweetie, of course not no, that's
- 31:16Speaker 1: not what that was, what that was gonna be at all.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I've anytime that I see all of these like fucking
- 31:24Speaker 1: rubes getting lied to by people, I feel so sad.
- 31:29Speaker 1: It's just like it just hits a little too close
- 31:32Speaker 1: to home these days, the number of people out there
- 31:35Speaker 1: that are just being snowed, and it's it's not even
- 31:40Speaker 1: really I know that I'm going off topic here for
- 31:44Speaker 1: a second, guys, but just forgive me. When I was
- 31:47Speaker 1: talking to Rashan about this the other day, Rashan had
- 31:51Speaker 1: been saying, like, you know, these people knew what they
- 31:55Speaker 1: were voting for, and I had to be like, Rashan,
- 31:59Speaker 1: I know that it feels satisfying to think that that
- 32:03Speaker 1: people are getting what they deserved, but I really don't
- 32:07Speaker 1: think they did know what they were voting for. And
- 32:10Speaker 1: I cited a couple different things that Owen's family was
- 32:15Speaker 1: very surprised by, and many of them actually voted for
- 32:20Speaker 1: Kamala this past election, which shocked me to hear. But
- 32:23Speaker 1: the few that didn't were like hearing certain other things
- 32:29Speaker 1: and realizing I think that like they didn't have the
- 32:32Speaker 1: information they thought they did, And I think it's really
- 32:35Speaker 1: easy when you are surrounded by people who are better informed,
- 32:39Speaker 1: who have more critical thinking skills, and who like look
- 32:42Speaker 1: for sources on information, you really get used to being
- 32:47Speaker 1: in a space that's like doing its due diligence, and
- 32:52Speaker 1: you expect that other people are as well, and that
- 32:55Speaker 1: they're just putting up blinders to the actual truth because
- 32:58Speaker 1: it's inconvenient. But I think the truth is that the
- 33:04Speaker 1: misinformation campaign is a lot more effective and a lot
- 33:08Speaker 1: more isolating and insulated than we realize it is. And
- 33:15Speaker 1: so trying to be like, these people know what it
- 33:17Speaker 1: is they're voting for, I don't think they do. I
- 33:21Speaker 1: think those of us who know better are like versed
- 33:28Speaker 1: in using technology and finding out things and researching in
- 33:33Speaker 1: a way that many people don't have the time, the energy,
- 33:38Speaker 1: or maybe they don't understand the necessity of doing. And
- 33:42Speaker 1: I'm not trying at all, by the way, to wipe
- 33:47Speaker 1: away complicity, because there are certain things that I know
- 33:52Speaker 1: they did know about and they still voted for Trump,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and to me, there's no excuse for that. But there
- 33:56Speaker 1: are plenty of details that have been coming up, because
- 34:01Speaker 1: since the inauguration, it has just been like a series
- 34:05Speaker 1: of bonkers news items coming into you know, like shit
- 34:09Speaker 1: that you're You're sitting there like are you fucking serious?
- 34:12Speaker 1: And I just think they have been as blindsided in
- 34:17Speaker 1: some ways as we have been, because how could you
- 34:20Speaker 1: have really been prepared for some of what's happening. There's like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: even those of us who were predicting things to be
- 34:27Speaker 1: very terrible, I don't think saw a lot of this
- 34:30Speaker 1: coming either. So anyway, all this to say that when
- 34:35Speaker 1: I see like, fucking just these regular normy guys out
- 34:39Speaker 1: here being played by their own side, it makes me
- 34:44Speaker 1: really really sad. So Viola is like, you pulled it off.
- 34:52Speaker 1: You truly are a remarkable sniper, and she starts crying,
- 34:57Speaker 1: and it's so funny because us up is down again.
- 35:00Speaker 1: This man just keeps on getting knocked the fuck out,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and the King is like, wait, he's triumphant. It's true.
- 35:12Speaker 1: And this is when all of the townsfolk who had
- 35:15Speaker 1: tied up a bunch of them, like the point was
- 35:16Speaker 1: that they were going to use them as hostages. So
- 35:20Speaker 1: it is like later on in the next episode we
- 35:25Speaker 1: find out that they thought us and the pirates, we're
- 35:28Speaker 1: all on the same side. But actually it's you guys
- 35:34Speaker 1: haven't communicated what it was that you were intending to do,
- 35:38Speaker 1: and you don't mean for the same thing to happen
- 35:42Speaker 1: at all. So let's go to anger irerupts Loofy and
- 35:48Speaker 1: Law's ultimate What is the ultimate plan? It's too long.
- 35:54Speaker 1: It won't show up on my little subthing while I'm
- 35:56Speaker 1: watching the episode. That's funny. Let's talk about what's going
- 36:01Speaker 1: on with Bellamy here. This is so weird, you guys.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I think ultimately that this is successful, but I do
- 36:15Speaker 1: want to share my puzzlement at the fact that Bellamy
- 36:22Speaker 1: is the character that we've chosen to do this with.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Like I said, I feel like it does work, and
- 36:28Speaker 1: so it's I'm not This is not me complaining. It's
- 36:34Speaker 1: more that I think that we haven't spent as much
- 36:40Speaker 1: time with Bellamy as I would have expected for us
- 36:44Speaker 1: to be playing things this way. What I mean by
- 36:51Speaker 1: this is Bellamy's supposed to have sort of like turned
- 36:59Speaker 1: over a bit of a new leaf in some ways
- 37:01Speaker 1: agree that like he isn't going to uh to make
- 37:07Speaker 1: fun of Lufy anymore, that he's going to like that
- 37:13Speaker 1: he wants to continue to dream as well. But he
- 37:18Speaker 1: also said that he really really respects uh Dol Flamingo
- 37:26Speaker 1: and that this guy has been like a longtime hero
- 37:29Speaker 1: of mine. So as we know, he goes up there
- 37:36Speaker 1: to talk to do Flamingo really thinking that he's going
- 37:38Speaker 1: to be made part of the family, and Do Flamingo
- 37:43Speaker 1: turns on him, and I'm unclear, Like I'll be honest, guys,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I don't totally remember what it was that made Do
- 37:51Speaker 1: Flamingo turn on him initially, but obviously here he's using
- 38:00Speaker 1: Bellamy against Lufy. And I couldn't tell if it's that
- 38:05Speaker 1: he was using Bellamy against Lufy from the beginning and
- 38:09Speaker 1: he knew that the two of them had become a
- 38:12Speaker 1: little friendlier, or if he was using Bellamy against Lufy
- 38:17Speaker 1: once he realized like that there just happened to be
- 38:21Speaker 1: a great opportunity, you know, and that he decided to
- 38:25Speaker 1: sort of lean into that, or maybe he just knew
- 38:28Speaker 1: that treating Bellamy this way at all was going to
- 38:32Speaker 1: like really bother Lufy and that it was just a
- 38:35Speaker 1: sort of like as a person, Lufy is going to
- 38:42Speaker 1: be against you, like tormenting anybody and making anybody suffer,
- 38:47Speaker 1: So no matter who it is, even if they're not
- 38:50Speaker 1: personal friends, doing this kind of thing to anyone in
- 38:54Speaker 1: front of Lufy would illicit the same reaction, but the
- 39:00Speaker 1: whole way he has like beat the shit out of Bellamy,
- 39:05Speaker 1: and when Loofy and Law get up there, eventually he
- 39:14Speaker 1: does this thing. This is so unfortunate, and it's really
- 39:16Speaker 1: funny because like I was actually cheering on something that
- 39:20Speaker 1: was sort of similar the other day. I've been watching
- 39:23Speaker 1: the show Lucifer, which has been on Netflix, and there
- 39:29Speaker 1: is a frequent thing on that show that never gets
- 39:33Speaker 1: old for me, which is that anytime Lucifer is fighting
- 39:37Speaker 1: a group of people, he always like does this thing
- 39:42Speaker 1: where he picks up one of the guys by the
- 39:44Speaker 1: back of the neck because he's really strong, and when
- 39:47Speaker 1: somebody tries to punch him, he just holds that person
- 39:49Speaker 1: in front of his own face and he gets punched,
- 39:52Speaker 1: and then the guy tries to take like a swinging
- 39:54Speaker 1: kick instead, and he holds the same guy out and
- 39:56Speaker 1: that guy takes the kick too, And he basically uses
- 39:59Speaker 1: people as very like handy human shield in a way
- 40:03Speaker 1: that is very funny to watch, in like really good choreography,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and so it like it felt very much like I
- 40:12Speaker 1: was kind of getting a bit of a finger from
- 40:16Speaker 1: the universe and being like, oh you thought that was funny. Huh,
- 40:18Speaker 1: how about now? Because the way that Lufy's kick, like
- 40:25Speaker 1: he gets so enraged over how Bellamy has been treated
- 40:32Speaker 1: that he decides he's just gonna lash out at Do Flamingo,
- 40:37Speaker 1: and Dope Flamingo winds up just holding up Bellamy in
- 40:42Speaker 1: front of his own face, so that Lufy winds up
- 40:46Speaker 1: kicking him instead in a moment that was like, the
- 40:53Speaker 1: thing is about Lufy. He projects what he's about to
- 41:00Speaker 1: do from a mile away, right, and like most of
- 41:04Speaker 1: the time that works out because people underestimate him so
- 41:08Speaker 1: much so they don't really like try and dodge or
- 41:14Speaker 1: react because there he presents such a goofy figure a
- 41:19Speaker 1: lot of the time that people are just sort of
- 41:20Speaker 1: smirking to themselves and then when they actually get hit
- 41:23Speaker 1: they're like, oh shit, okay, this is this is serious
- 41:26Speaker 1: after all. But Do Flamingo is probably like one of
- 41:32Speaker 1: the more intelligent villains that we have come across so far,
- 41:37Speaker 1: and the way that he just holds Bellamy up, of
- 41:41Speaker 1: course he would like you you gave him so much
- 41:45Speaker 1: warning about what you were going to do that if
- 41:49Speaker 1: he hadn't defended himself in any way, I would have
- 41:51Speaker 1: been very surprised, and using Bellamy to do it just
- 41:54Speaker 1: makes the most sense. So and anyway, I just really
- 42:01Speaker 1: this whole thing is so funny to me because what
- 42:04Speaker 1: he uh, the way that he reacts, and how like
- 42:09Speaker 1: horrified he is at having kicked this poor guy, poor Lufy,
- 42:17Speaker 1: and Law for his part, he is extremely frustrated with Lufy,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and up until now I have found that pretty much
- 42:30Speaker 1: just funny. And I've blamed Law himself more than anybody,
- 42:36Speaker 1: because I felt like you got warned by a lot
- 42:38Speaker 1: of people along the way, dude, who you were working with,
- 42:41Speaker 1: and you saw for yourself who you were working with,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and you just seemed to not want to believe people.
- 42:49Speaker 1: So I don't really know why you continue to act
- 42:52Speaker 1: surprised when shit goes exactly the way that it's always gone.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And to a degree, I do still feel that way.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But he has been trying to impress upon Lufy that
- 43:07Speaker 1: he needs to control himself a little bit better, and
- 43:11Speaker 1: this is a moment when Lufy kicks Bellamy in the
- 43:13Speaker 1: face by accident where he is just like, this is
- 43:16Speaker 1: what I have been fucking talking about, dude, you need
- 43:20Speaker 1: to get a handle on your fucking anger. They are
- 43:23Speaker 1: prodding and poking and provoking you into reacting and you're
- 43:29Speaker 1: letting them and it's like embarrassing. And later on Trouble
- 43:34Speaker 1: you guys. Trouble in these episodes is the worst, Like,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I hate this man already. He just sucks, like he
- 43:43Speaker 1: is just very unappealing to look at. His voice is
- 43:47Speaker 1: incredibly irritating. But he's even worse in these episodes because
- 43:52Speaker 1: of the way that he just sort of mimics everything
- 43:56Speaker 1: that do Flamingo says. So Do Flamingo is just like, so,
- 43:59Speaker 1: when did you guys become so chummy? And Treble's like, yeah, yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 1: when did you become so chummy? Hau hau? When did
- 44:08Speaker 1: that happen? And You're just like, do you have a
- 44:11Speaker 1: single original thought in your hand, sir? Or are you
- 44:13Speaker 1: just gonna That's all he does is just sort of
- 44:15Speaker 1: like repeat the thing that Do Flamingo said, And then
- 44:18Speaker 1: later on he continues on in this vein where he's
- 44:21Speaker 1: just like yelling the like at Lufy, like, oh you
- 44:26Speaker 1: saw him get kicked Why did you do that? I
- 44:30Speaker 1: thought you guys were friends. Why would you kick him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It's like somebody like doing that thing where they're holding
- 44:35Speaker 1: your wrists and making your hands smack you in the
- 44:38Speaker 1: face and going stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself, you know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: like it's uh, it's it's just absolutely infuriating. So of course,
- 44:50Speaker 1: then do Flamingo does a thing where he starts to
- 44:53Speaker 1: have Bellamy, like he's doing the puppeteering controlling thing where
- 45:00Speaker 1: he's making Bellamy attack Loofy and he's yelling for Loofy
- 45:06Speaker 1: like you've got to You've got to knock me out
- 45:09Speaker 1: or kill me because otherwise this like he's going to
- 45:13Speaker 1: make me kill you, And Lufy says, of course, I'm
- 45:17Speaker 1: not doing that. You're my friend, And I guess this
- 45:24Speaker 1: is really like I guess, like I I will say
- 45:35Speaker 1: that this is what we love about Loufy, right, that
- 45:38Speaker 1: we are the fact that he makes friends so easily
- 45:48Speaker 1: and that he considers people his friend for so little.
- 45:53Speaker 1: But I did have to kind of be like, are
- 45:56Speaker 1: you because it just felt like you just weren't really
- 45:58Speaker 1: enemies anymore, but not that you were friends at this point,
- 46:05Speaker 1: and Bellamy starts crying and I just like you guys,
- 46:11Speaker 1: Belley looks so fucking pitiful in this episode, the way
- 46:17Speaker 1: that there's the the like injuries on his face are animated,
- 46:21Speaker 1: and the fact that like, you know, his head gets
- 46:24Speaker 1: lifted and he's crying the way that he is it
- 46:28Speaker 1: is distressing, Like it really hurts to look at him
- 46:33Speaker 1: so all together. As much as I was still sort
- 46:38Speaker 1: of like come on, what, well, like you guys aren't
- 46:43Speaker 1: really friend friends, right, once I got to this point,
- 46:48Speaker 1: I was a little bit more like, all right, you
- 46:50Speaker 1: know what, I think I accept that they're friends just
- 46:53Speaker 1: on like purely the value of the fact that Loofy
- 46:59Speaker 1: wouldn't be able to watch this happening to anybody that
- 47:02Speaker 1: he had been even a little friendly with, Like all
- 47:05Speaker 1: somebody has to do for him to be allied to
- 47:07Speaker 1: them forever basically is get give like by him lunch.
- 47:12Speaker 1: So I suppose Bellamy saying like I won't doubt you
- 47:15Speaker 1: or laugh at you anymore does make sense. It's just
- 47:20Speaker 1: it's funny to me because it feels like it's so
- 47:23Speaker 1: little that we're basing all of this on. But I
- 47:26Speaker 1: guess that's really like his charm is that Lufy doesn't
- 47:31Speaker 1: need a lot for people to be considered his friends
- 47:35Speaker 1: in a way that's like, I will lay it all
- 47:38Speaker 1: down for you, and I won't begrudge it at all,
- 47:40Speaker 1: you know. So the way that this fight goes, first
- 47:49Speaker 1: of all, I do want to talk about the The
- 47:56Speaker 1: first thing that Lufy does is he just sides that
- 48:00Speaker 1: he wants to speed up the way that they're going
- 48:03Speaker 1: to implement the fight against Do Flamingo. And the plan
- 48:12Speaker 1: is that Lufy, I guess, is going to come at
- 48:17Speaker 1: Law and punch at him, but that Law is going
- 48:25Speaker 1: to use his ability to switch them out. So Lufy
- 48:29Speaker 1: like yells at him, I think it's time. He's pissing
- 48:33Speaker 1: me off, and he just begins to lunge forward. Trafalgar says, you, moron,
- 48:44Speaker 1: this was supposed to be our secret plan. Why are
- 48:47Speaker 1: you like ruining it? And Lufy is heading for him,
- 48:52Speaker 1: and so like, at first a part of me was like, well,
- 48:54Speaker 1: then just don't do your plans, and then I realized, oh,
- 48:58Speaker 1: if he doesn't, and Lufy is going to knock out
- 49:01Speaker 1: his own guy, which really is a hell of a
- 49:06Speaker 1: weak point in the plan, Like that does suck. So
- 49:13Speaker 1: he lands his punch and it's like a solid punch
- 49:16Speaker 1: and do Flamingo clearly isn't expecting it, and it is
- 49:20Speaker 1: a moment of like feeling of a satisfaction temporarily, but
- 49:26Speaker 1: it's so distressing once you see how little an effect
- 49:30Speaker 1: it really had, and Law is so irritated, and it's
- 49:35Speaker 1: just like, you really are the worst, aren't you? I
- 49:39Speaker 1: could fucking strangle you, like, and Lufy's response to this
- 49:43Speaker 1: is so weird. I have to assume that this is
- 49:47Speaker 1: a little bit of a cultural thing because it feels
- 49:51Speaker 1: like something that like, so Lufy's response when Trafalgar says
- 49:59Speaker 1: you're just the worst is that's just our generation. I mean,
- 50:09Speaker 1: it feels like the sort of like phrasing that would
- 50:13Speaker 1: be used in common parlance in the modern day, like
- 50:20Speaker 1: you know, fucking zennials, you know that kind of energy.
- 50:23Speaker 1: But it's just that we really haven't talked about generations
- 50:29Speaker 1: in this universe like that. It just it felt almost
- 50:33Speaker 1: like it took me out of the story for a
- 50:35Speaker 1: second because it felt like a very modern reference in
- 50:40Speaker 1: a way, or like just at least an outside of
- 50:43Speaker 1: universe reference. So yeah, I just I was I it
- 50:48Speaker 1: was just a moment of me kind of being like,
- 50:50Speaker 1: that's a really weird response to have here, Like it
- 50:55Speaker 1: didn't It's not a terrible line, but it doesn't feel
- 50:59Speaker 1: like it suits one piece, particularly if that makes sense.
- 51:05Speaker 1: So I just wanted to mention that because I it
- 51:11Speaker 1: was a pretty it was a moment that I felt
- 51:14Speaker 1: like I really enjoyed what was happening there, and then
- 51:18Speaker 1: when they had to take it to that like line,
- 51:21Speaker 1: it sort of made me kind of jerk my head
- 51:24Speaker 1: and be like, wait, what was what is that? Like,
- 51:27Speaker 1: it's just a strange response the you know. So anyway,
- 51:36Speaker 1: jumping into the last of these three episodes, and I've
- 51:39Speaker 1: talked about a lot of this already, but uh, the
- 51:44Speaker 1: the way that the fight is going between Trafalgar and Treble,
- 51:49Speaker 1: there is a pretty fun sequence where Treble is like
- 51:55Speaker 1: believing that he has figured out a way a Trafalgar's abilities,
- 52:03Speaker 1: and it turns out that Trafalgar is using something called
- 52:07Speaker 1: a radio knife, and this causes Trouble to actually like
- 52:14Speaker 1: be cut off from his own abilities for a few minutes.
- 52:18Speaker 1: So at first it looks like he's gotten the better
- 52:23Speaker 1: of Trouble, and then do Flamingo like steps in between
- 52:30Speaker 1: them unexpectedly in a very like protective, don't fuck with
- 52:35Speaker 1: my family kind of way. I know, I can't be
- 52:39Speaker 1: the only one that thinks about how much this like
- 52:42Speaker 1: whole family thing is giving fast and furious, But there's
- 52:45Speaker 1: really not very many other parallels that I can think of,
- 52:48Speaker 1: so I won't be that drum particularly. I just wanted
- 52:52Speaker 1: to at least acknowledge it. But the way that this
- 52:59Speaker 1: like reaction is elicited from him did surprise me. I
- 53:05Speaker 1: was sort of thinking that it was going to be
- 53:08Speaker 1: a just sort of a like that's disrespectful to me,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and instead it feels like much more of a I
- 53:22Speaker 1: actually care about my people in a way that is
- 53:29Speaker 1: like emotionally invested. And I really wasn't expecting that one
- 53:35Speaker 1: single little bit, like not at all, guys, So it
- 53:39Speaker 1: just truly shocked me the way that he seemed like
- 53:43Speaker 1: so upset and angry. And we eventually get the uh
- 53:50Speaker 1: reveal of what his father wanted to do and the deal.
- 53:57Speaker 1: We don't actually get too much of the history. It's
- 54:00Speaker 1: just like a couple of little flashbacks, but the overall
- 54:08Speaker 1: like later on what it was, what it is that
- 54:10Speaker 1: trifal or not trafalgar, that dol Flamingo says, is like that,
- 54:14Speaker 1: I don't remember if he killed his own father or
- 54:17Speaker 1: but he did something to his own father, because the
- 54:20Speaker 1: flashbacks are of this, like clearly, very kind hearted man
- 54:25Speaker 1: saying we'll live humbly. And basically what we find out
- 54:32Speaker 1: is that they were part of the celestial dragons. But
- 54:35Speaker 1: his father didn't agree with the enslavement of people, and
- 54:42Speaker 1: so his whole deal was like, I want to get
- 54:47Speaker 1: away from them and live like on our own merits
- 54:52Speaker 1: and make our own living, and apparently do Flamingo was
- 54:57Speaker 1: way too indoctrinated already into the lifestyle of being waited
- 55:03Speaker 1: on by slaves and believing himself to be superior to
- 55:07Speaker 1: everyone else, so when this new life begins, he is
- 55:13Speaker 1: not adjusting to it at all, and his father is
- 55:17Speaker 1: like he is disgusted by his father's behavior, and eventually
- 55:23Speaker 1: he says like there's a couple of moments of him
- 55:28Speaker 1: just being like, why aren't people bowing down to us? Father, like, well,
- 55:32Speaker 1: if we don't have slaves anymore, let's get some new ones,
- 55:35Speaker 1: Like this is not a kid who is I don't like,
- 55:45Speaker 1: I'm not trying to say that you can't change after
- 55:50Speaker 1: a certain point, because it's totally untrue, but I am
- 55:54Speaker 1: saying that clearly do Flamingo is a type of kid
- 56:02Speaker 1: that would take a lot, like much more, a stronger
- 56:06Speaker 1: hand and much more time to change the way he
- 56:11Speaker 1: sees the world. Like clearly that shit had embedded itself
- 56:15Speaker 1: a lot, and his father seemed to believe that he's
- 56:20Speaker 1: young enough that he can adapt, you know, but people
- 56:26Speaker 1: have to, like they adapt if they want to adapt,
- 56:29Speaker 1: and even then wanting to, it's still an effort and
- 56:33Speaker 1: it's still not always like successful or on the first try.
- 56:38Speaker 1: But this kid doesn't want to adapt obviously, which when
- 56:45Speaker 1: you have lived like a king, I can see how
- 56:49Speaker 1: it would be really difficult to like leave that behind.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I'm not trying to pretend it would be easy for
- 56:54Speaker 1: me either, but as somebody who was raised with a
- 56:59Speaker 1: lot more money than we ended up with later on
- 57:02Speaker 1: in my life, my father used to be, when I
- 57:05Speaker 1: was very young, a drug dealer, and we lived in
- 57:09Speaker 1: this like big condo, and like I had all of
- 57:13Speaker 1: these cool like this just this stuff, and we were
- 57:18Speaker 1: able to do things and go on vacations and things.
- 57:21Speaker 1: And then when I was like around eight years old,
- 57:24Speaker 1: my dad decided that he wanted to put that life
- 57:27Speaker 1: behind him, and he became a born again Christian. We
- 57:30Speaker 1: sold the condo, We got rid of a lot of
- 57:33Speaker 1: our stuff, and you know, even down to our furniture,
- 57:37Speaker 1: Like he really felt a lot of the things that
- 57:39Speaker 1: we owned had been bought with blood money and he
- 57:42Speaker 1: was not wrong. And so we downsized considerably and it
- 57:49Speaker 1: was difficult, but it wasn't like impossible for me to
- 57:54Speaker 1: understand that circumstances change and that things are different. And
- 57:59Speaker 1: it just feels like the way that these flashbacks go,
- 58:03Speaker 1: it feels like this guy was just grabbing his kids
- 58:06Speaker 1: and being like, hey, we're going on an adventure and
- 58:08Speaker 1: didn't really explain to them, like what it was going
- 58:11Speaker 1: to be like and how the ways in which it
- 58:15Speaker 1: would be different, and so like being like, why aren't
- 58:19Speaker 1: they bowing to us and why don't we have slaves.
- 58:23Speaker 1: I can't help but feel, sir, that this is something
- 58:26Speaker 1: you should have gone over with your children before you
- 58:28Speaker 1: decided to like bounce from this life that you had,
- 58:34Speaker 1: Like they shouldn't have been surprised at the way they
- 58:38Speaker 1: are being treated now. You should have had a long
- 58:41Speaker 1: conversation with them about how different things were going to be,
- 58:46Speaker 1: and I can't help but kind of be like, how
- 58:49Speaker 1: did you think this was going to go? This is
- 58:51Speaker 1: a hell of a culture shock. But Del Flamingo, after
- 58:56Speaker 1: he takes his dad out of the equation, he tried
- 59:00Speaker 1: to go back to the celestial Dragons, and they want
- 59:04Speaker 1: nothing to do with him. These people turn their back
- 59:08Speaker 1: on the family. And as far as the Celestial Dragons
- 59:12Speaker 1: are concerned, you don't get to just opt in and out.
- 59:16Speaker 1: You left, you are now out, which is truly wild
- 59:21Speaker 1: because the fact that Do Flamingo took out his own
- 59:24Speaker 1: dad and you guys don't consider that like enough to
- 59:28Speaker 1: verify his loyalty to you all. I mean, what more
- 59:31Speaker 1: do you fucking want? You know? I just think that's
- 59:34Speaker 1: like you have done. You Like, not only have you
- 59:39Speaker 1: turned your back on somebody with the kind of loyalty
- 59:43Speaker 1: that I would think psychos like you would value, but
- 59:47Speaker 1: also this dude is clearly not okay, and you have
- 59:52Speaker 1: decided to make an enemy of him, which also feels
- 59:55Speaker 1: like deeply shortsighted. So this soul, this whole thing is
- 59:59Speaker 1: just like is it really didn't think this one through?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: I don't think at all. So anyway, that's like I'm
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: running out of time here, and I want to make
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: sure I talk about one more aspect of this story,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: because like, by the time things wrap up here, we
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: haven't finished this fight. But the other part of the
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: story that I wanted to touch on, we really quickly,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: like check in with Frankie, We check in with like
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Diamante and Kiros, but we don't spend a lot of
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: time with them. There is a bit with Senor Pink
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: just being like, after Frankie punches and he's like, was
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: that supposed to hurt? All I felt was a soft
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: breeze tickling my skin or something like that. And the
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: bit that is going on still with Sabo and Fuji Tora.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: It's sort of weird because what it turns out to
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: be is that Fujiitura is essentially going to like bet
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: on the straw hats himself. And so after all of
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: this chaos and me being like, you guys are being
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: deeply irresponsible, what are you doing, they just decide that
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: they're gonna drop it for right now, which I can't
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: help but be like, you could have done that before
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: you destroyed half the island, guys, but you know whatever,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And I don't know I just I just found this
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: to be like kind of an anti climactic way to
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: handle it. But it's fine. We do get Koala like
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: berating Sabo too and just being like I am always
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: here having to like clean up your messes, and because
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: you know, this is kind of looking like he is
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: thrown in with the Marines, and I guess this is
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: gonna you have some explaining to do. But the end
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: of the third episode is basically Fujiitura like appearing on
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: the plateau with Usap and Robin, or is Robin there.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I don't think she's quite joined them yet, but it's
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: us Up and Viola and he's like tossing dice and
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: talking about gambling. And the King himself has also like
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: come around, because initially, when Viola was saying that she
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: had faith in the straw Hats, he was like they're criminals,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Like what do you Why are you so sure this
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: is going to work out? And she's like they have
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: still got their humanity and they're going to like reveal
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: all of the deception that's been happening. And so the
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: King has come around on this as well and has
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: reached a point where he's like, yeah, you know, what.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I didn't even notice it happening. But now I also
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: am like betting everything on them and hoping they'll be
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: able to like make this work. So that's fun. I
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: like that. I'm glad we're all on the same side
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: at this point. All Right, Well, I have to wrap
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: this one up, but yeah, really enjoying this arc so far,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: still very very much. So that's really fun. Also, though,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: I do want to know what is happening with Mommy
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: and Chopper and Brook please, I want to check in
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: with them. It's been a while now, it's been like
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: a while now, please just give me something, all right, everybody,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: thank you again so much for listening. Thank you Florian
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: for commissioning this one, and until next time to Blu motherfuckers.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: That was an Unspoiled Network podcast.
