- 4:23Nick Carter today, we find him in his laboratory at the top of the
- 4:26old brownstone house on the corner of Fifth and Fourth. It is night.
- 4:30The laboratory is dark except for the strange, unearthly glow of a small mercury
- 4:34vapor lamp, which casts an eerie light into the intent and watchful eyes of
- 4:38the great Detective Nick Carter. There is silence. Someone moves in the shadow.
- 4:44You're right, Betsy. The alka violet ray shows that two different inks
- 4:47were used in the writing of this will Old jobs a forgery. That's all.
- 4:54Turn on the lights, prazede. Now I can go home and get
- 4:58a nice sleep for Jane. Oh no, not yet, at the vaporize
- 5:00already. I want to test this sheet of paper for a laden fingerprints.
- 5:03You want to dinas and pit rock side, pet rock side. I want
- 5:06to take pictures, I digest isn't photogenic. I take it easy, Pats.
- 5:11He's under the night bell. Somebody's at the front door. So I
- 5:14guess I'll never get over having my stomach. Do Nipats. If a phone
- 5:16or a doorbell rings suddenly in the middle of the night, here you take
- 5:19your stuff. I'll go down and see who it is. It's the cutter
- 5:33you are, mister Nick Carter. Why yes, what seems to be the
- 5:36trouble. That's my wife. She's disappeared. We had a quarrel and now
- 5:40she's gone. I wouldn't be too upset, mister Ashbury, Harold Ashbury,
- 5:44But I am upset. Anyone would be. You see, she's gonna have
- 5:46a baby when no even I mean any hour. She was on her way
- 5:50to the hospital. That's when she disappeared right on the steps of Mercy Hospital.
- 5:55Why weren't you with her at the time. I just told you we
- 5:57had a quarrel, don't you see it? I look, I think we
- 6:01get more information if we gave mister Ashworth a chance to collect himself. Yeah,
- 6:05sit down in this easy chair. Thanks very kind, missus Carter,
- 6:11because you've been through this yourself. Oh no, my name's Bowen, Miss
- 6:14Patsy Bowen. I'm sorry, I mean perfectly all right, miss Ashworth.
- 6:19You see, I was one of a large family, so I do know
- 6:21a little about these things. Mister Carter. On the other hand, mister
- 6:26Ashworth didn't come here quiet and nick. You may be tops when it comes
- 6:29to scientific detection, but how you ever passed and applied psychology? Now,
- 6:34mister Ashworth, suppose you tell us all about it from the beginning. Yes,
- 6:39yes, of course, let's see. Sometimes I have to hand it
- 6:42to you. Thanks all right, mister Ashworth. You and your wife are
- 6:46expecting a baby. What's her name, by the way, Norah. She
- 6:49was Nora Brent. Her two uncles owned the Brent Tubing and Appliance, This
- 6:54company that she has money. Oh no, her father was a minister.
- 6:57He died before we met. Was never approved of me. You see,
- 7:01I've been married before, we had divorced. Divorced. That's what our uncles
- 7:05didn't approve of. Besides, Nora's a good ten years younger than I am.
- 7:09They say I married her on the rebound. You see. She had
- 7:12a childhood sweetheart, Jim Stanley, a boy she'd know one all her life.
- 7:16He was reported missing with a carrier that went down on the Pacific.
- 7:19That was two years ago. Nora was pretty cut up about it. My
- 7:23first wife had just run away with another man. So you consoled each other,
- 7:27well, maybe just at first, but it didn't take long for us
- 7:30to realize that we were made for each other. You've got to believe me,
- 7:32mister Carter. We loved each other. We were ideally happy. No
- 7:35arguments, no differences of opinion, no never, That is not until today.
- 7:41And what happened today. This morning a letter came for Nora. Was
- 7:44addressed to Nora Brent, not missus ashmittt mind you, and up in the
- 7:47corner of the envelope the sender's name and address read Chief Petty Officer Jim Stanley
- 7:51Tappan. Even in hospital but that's a man. She was in love with
- 7:55the man who was supposed to be dead. Now he's in a hospital only
- 7:58five miles down the bay. I take it she got excited when she saw
- 8:01the letter. I knew she would, mister cutterr And well, maybe it
- 8:03was jealousy. Maybe I was afraid of what might happen. You see,
- 8:07we're expecting the baby almost any time, so so what so I destroyed the
- 8:11letter. Very short sighted, but I realized that now. But I couldn't
- 8:16bear to think of losing her. I'd have done anything to provent. It
- 8:18would have been much better to have brought the whole thing out into the open.
- 8:22It's too late now, it's happened, just what I was afraid of.
- 8:26We were sitting in my den after dinner tonight. I was so worried.
- 8:28I just couldn't seem to take my eyes off her. Pretty soon I
- 8:31realized I was making you nervous, so I said, I thought I'd go
- 8:33to bed and read. I just got in into my pajamas. When the
- 8:37phone rang, I let Norah answer it, because her uncle, Timothy Brant
- 8:41generally called about that time to find out how Nora was feeling. Oh,
- 8:43so the uncles had forgiven her for marrying you. Oh, yes, Tim
- 8:46Brand's as well. Guy. He came right around to see as as soon
- 8:48as Paul, the other uncle died five months ago. Paul never forgave us,
- 8:54even cut Nora out of his will. Stubborn old customer. And was
- 8:58it Uncle Tim on the telephone? No. I could hear Nora's voice,
- 9:01but not what she was saying. She was talking on the extension in the
- 9:05dining room. So pretty soon she opened the bedroom door. She was sort
- 9:09of quiet, white. Oh, what did you do with that letter?
- 9:15But what aboutter Nora? One from Jim Stanley? I just told her.
- 9:18But Nora, there wasn't any letter. You mean Jim's alive. No,
- 9:22you've never lied to me before. Good you uput you please one of the
- 9:26explanations, Norah, Nora, Darling, what's wrong? What's the matter?
- 9:33Baby? I got to get to the hospital, please, Darling, don't
- 9:37be frightened. Just as soon as I get dressed again, I probably Uncle
- 9:41Tam Hello. Oh yes, Uncle Tim, No, something's happened. It's
- 9:46the baby. I'm going to the hospital right away. Please call doctor Jenkins
- 9:50and tell him that I need him trying to come right away, nor,
- 9:52for heaven's sakes, wait just a minute. How I'm going from good?
- 9:56I don't ever want to see you again. And she left without you.
- 10:11Yes, I heard the front door slam while I was putting on my shoes.
- 10:15I ran after her, but it's too late. Old Joe, that's
- 10:18the man who has the taxi on our corner, pulled away just as I
- 10:20ran out the front door. It was twenty minutes before I got another cab.
- 10:24I drove to Mercy Hospital as fast as I could make the driver go.
- 10:28It couldn't have taken as more than twelve minutes to get there, but
- 10:31it seemed like hours. Is what happened. When you got to the hospital.
- 10:33I rushed up the steps into the reception room and demanded that the nurse.
- 10:37Asked at the desk to take me to my wife, and they said
- 10:41they hadn't played eyes on her. Maybe she went somewhere there, that's what
- 10:45I thought. I thought. Maybe she'd been in an accident, maybe the
- 10:46baby had been born in the way. I thought all kinds of horrible things.
- 10:50Then I remember Joe, the taxi driver owned the cab my wife had
- 10:54driven off in. So I drove back home again. Joe swears he drove
- 10:58her straight to Mercy Hospital. Even what you go up the steps and open
- 11:01the big front door. Very interesting, Betsy, I think we shall have
- 11:05to interview both Joe and the nurse at the desk. I was hoping you'd
- 11:09say that, mister Connor, I brought Joe along as Cat's waiting outside,
- 11:13he can drive us to the hospital. Well, what can Joe tell Nick
- 11:26about the vanishing lady that he hasn't already told her husband Harold? And how
- 11:31could Nora open the big front door of the hospital and yet apparently never enter
- 11:35it. We'll see in just a moment. If you've used new LINEX self

- 13:20one hour. At hardware paint and department stores everywhere. And now back to
- 13:33our story. As we see Nick caught her again. He and Patsy and
- 13:37Harold Ashforth are an old Joe's cab, which is whirling them off to Mercy
- 13:41Hospital, on whose steps Missus Ashforth disappeared less than an hour previously, as
- 13:46she was on her way there to have a baby. Nick is questioning the
- 13:50driver. Look here, Joe, eh, you're sure it was missus Ashforth.
- 13:56You drove to Mercy Hospital tonight. Sure, I'm sure i'd know her.
- 14:00Anyways, when you got to the hospital, did you help her up
- 14:01the steps? No? I helped her out of the cab, and just
- 14:05as she opens the door, a man comes out from under the portico and
- 14:09she runs to him. He puts his arms around her. So it gets
- 14:11there was somebody she knowed and I drove off. Who was this man?
- 14:15What do you look like? Well? I couldn't rightly say, it was
- 14:16too dark. I see well he uh here's the hospital. Go wait here,
- 14:22Joe, you may need you again. Yeah, sure, the reception
- 14:39desk is over here, mister cutter. That's the nurse that told me my
- 14:43wife. But he look who's there talking to her? It's uncle Tim what's
- 14:46been going on here? Right? Like to know? Well, the baby
- 14:48did decide we right ahead of time, Tony hospitalist get to take care of
- 14:52places like that. But I tell you, mister Brent, we didn't turn
- 14:54your niece away. Missus Dashwood never came here. I swear to you she
- 14:58never walked in that. Then why did I just get this wire saying you
- 15:01will pull up? Mind if I have a look at that telegram at the
- 15:03Brent? And who in places are you? This is Nick Carter, uncle
- 15:07Taim. He's trying to find out what's happened to Norah. I am ponder
- 15:09didn't you stick with Nora? You've done your duty as a father. We'd
- 15:13know where she was. I suppose you Let me look at that telegram,
- 15:16see what I can make of it. Oh yes, just course, Mercy
- 15:22Hospital pull Missus Ashworth taken elsewhere. Everything under control, No cause for anxiety.
- 15:28Signed Missus Mary Brown. Who's Missus Brown? Ever heard of her?
- 15:33Ju Harold? Name means absolutely nothing to me? Mary Brown, nice,
- 15:37indefinite son a name. Let's see. This telegram was handed in at the
- 15:43Midtown station at ten forty five. That was only a few minutes after Nora
- 15:46left the house. Yes. Interesting. Why did you receive the telegram at
- 15:50the Brent about ten minutes ago? I came right over here. I only
- 15:54lived three blocks away. Why did you receive it earlier? Should have had
- 15:58it three quarters an hour ago? I suppose I would have if I'd been
- 16:00home, but I went to a late movie. Patrick yet me. Suppose
- 16:03you go to the telegraph office is where I was sent from, so you
- 16:06can get a line of new handed it in and get hold of a nurse's
- 16:08registry. That's possible. There may be a nurse by the name of Mary
- 16:11Brown. Okay there is. Find out what hospital or senatorium she works out
- 16:15of. Report back to mister Ashford's apartment, right and you, mister Ashford,
- 16:22I suggest you go home. I have a hunch you will get a
- 16:25telegram yourself in the not too distant future. Do you think so? Maybe
- 16:27there's one there already. I'll see you later. Mister brand tell me you
- 16:33really think your niece is still in love with this fellow Jim Stanley. It's
- 16:37my personal opinion, mister Carter, that she found she didn't love her husband,
- 16:41and she took that way out to sort of keep Madame's lamb. Well,
- 16:47yes, I'm getting on home. This is something more I can do
- 16:49for you. Oh. I think you've done everything we could expect, mister
- 16:53Brandt, But there are still a few questions. I'd like to ask the
- 16:56nurse at the reception desk good night, good night. Oh then, sister
- 17:11honest, mister Carter, missus Ashwood didn't come here tonight. We don't turn
- 17:15away cases like hers ever. Mister Ashworth's doctor what's his name, Stevens.
- 17:19He takes care of all the Brents and the Ashwood Did you show up at
- 17:22any time at night? Oh? No, sir, he hasn't been here
- 17:25all either, and yet nor I told her I'll get hold of him.
- 17:29I wonder see there's a telephone down the hall. I suppose you asked the
- 17:33operator to connect me with the ambulatory ward to tap And based hospital. And
- 17:37while I'm getting that, Carl, you might phone doctor Stephens's house and find
- 17:40out for me why he didn't get round to deliver the Ashworth baby. Oh
- 17:44let him think it's a routine inquiry from the hospital. Will you do that
- 17:47for me? Oh? Anything I can do for you, is that tisure,
- 17:49mister Carter? I'm sure, Thanks sister, I'll take a call down
- 17:53here, gee idol and connect the gentleman on the whole phone with a tap
- 17:59and based hospital. Yeah, the tap and based hospital, the ambulatory ward.
- 18:03Yes, mister Nick Carter, the detective Harry up William Myrdle. Hello,
- 18:18is this the doctor in charge of the ambulatory ward? That's right,
- 18:22Nick Carter speaking. I want to find out about a patient named Jim or
- 18:26James Stanley. Oh, yes, of course, mister Carter. What would
- 18:30you like to know? Where's he? Now? Well? I don't know.
- 18:33He made a telephone call earlier in the evening and apparently it upset him
- 18:37very much. He said he had to get into town at once, so
- 18:41well we let him go. He didn't say where he was going, no,
- 18:45but I gother it was somewhere in town. If you like, there's
- 18:48anything that I can no, no, no, that's quite all right.
- 18:52Thanks. Oh, mister Carter. I got back to Stephen's house. He's
- 18:56out on an emergency. He never got the call about missus Ashford. She
- 19:00must have been a big emergency. Hey, where you're going, mister Carter?
- 19:03We ran another emergency, I hope, thanks, Joe. Okay,
- 19:22which is the ashbourth apartment. Well, for all right, just inside the
- 19:26front door. Thanks, Oh there's somebody there all right? Light slits shades,
- 19:32jarn, what's that? Two figures mail read jupter. One of them's
- 19:37got a gun, they called bind. No time for a door, Go
- 19:41out of the window, right up with your hands for of you. He
- 19:45shot at Byby, but he didn't hit you. She un doubt of me
- 19:47would ever be meant to kill you? That's right. I well, I
- 19:49was just trying to keep him off me. He's got some crazy idea that
- 19:52I ran away with his wife. I take it you're Chief Petty Officer,
- 19:56Jim Stanley. That's right. I found out today this I had married Nora.
- 20:00Well, she sounded sort of upset when I talked to her on the
- 20:03phone, so I thought i'd just drop around and size up the situation.
- 20:08If he wasn't treating her right, I was going to beat his ears in.
- 20:12Nora and I grew up together. We were like brother and sister,
- 20:15you see, mister Stanley. Unfortunately, mister Ashworth's wife disappeared just after you
- 20:19talked to her, and samo he rather imagine she might have run away with
- 20:22you. So that's why he jumped me. Nobody's got it all wrong about
- 20:27me and Nora. Oh, we had a crush when we were in school.
- 20:30But I married a girl in Australia three years ago. I wrote Nora
- 20:34at the time, and she wrote back wishing me luck well. She never
- 20:37told me that we women do strange things sometimes to keep my boyfriends gets.
- 20:41Oh, Pattie, stay away from that broken window. Wait from me outside.
- 20:45Don't worry. I'm not the one who take chances. Oh look,
- 20:48nick, I found out about the telegram and has no Mary Brown miss or
- 20:52missus, and the nurse's registered and the telegram was handed in by a man.
- 20:56In fact, I think he sent another. I ran into miss Patsy
- 20:59coming on the corner. Oh, miss brand hello, as I had a
- 21:03hunt. Should get another wire. Let's have a look. No, don't
- 21:04try to come in, Patsy, you'll hand it up. Hey, you
- 21:07are it same? Your grandniece and her mother doing beautifully at play sanatorium.
- 21:14Come and bring the papa. Missus Ashforth keeps asking for him and no signature.
- 21:19She wants me, Norah wants me. And the baby's here. I
- 21:22have a little girl. It's wonderful. Where's my hat. Now I have
- 21:26got time. Come on everybody. Well, Joe, we seem to have
- 21:44kept you rather busy tonight. That's all right by me. It just shows
- 21:47me me that keeps taking. I'm a father father. Oh baby girl,
- 21:51sure up out if you'll have better luck next time. After all you and
- 21:55are are still young. And that's what you mean, mister brand about better
- 21:59luck next time? Anything unlucky about a baby girl. My brother, as
- 22:03you probably know, disinherited Nora. However, he did leave a cottasulto as
- 22:08will. He couldn't better think of the Brent factory going out of the family,
- 22:12so he said that if Nora ever had a son, he would inherit
- 22:15my brother's share of the business. You see, my brother was a woman
- 22:19aid or attired. So having a girl baby because Carol, I have a
- 22:23million dollars, I see. Well, here are Clay Sanitarium. Fancy look
- 22:30complacated, fancy and expensive. Well, some of the very best babies get
- 22:34themselves born here. Oh, doctor Jeremia Clay is famous for that. He's
- 22:38brought more millionaires in the world. And you can shake a stick at so
- 22:41that mister Ashwood's daughter isn't a millionaire jo All, money doesn't matter. It's
- 22:45my wife and daughter who really count. Now. Well, well, well
- 23:00I'm glad you come. Welcome mister Brent, and congratulations you sir. You
- 23:06must be the father. Sorry, I haven't that, honor. This is
- 23:08mister Ashford. Oh yes, yes, of course, this way, mister
- 23:12Ashworth. Please. The new mother is so anxious to see you. This
- 23:15way, please, such a curious case. Women are often most unreasonable at
- 23:21these times. Didn't want the family informed. Of course, the minute it
- 23:25was all over, when she saw the baby completely turned to normalcy one of
- 23:29the family at once. This is her room. Sorry, I'm afraid only
- 23:33the father can go in. Just at first, you go, Nora,
- 23:40Nora, don dear. Really wasn't so bad. I had a very easy
- 23:48time. It's girls, you know. I'm sorry, dearest. I don't
- 23:53care what it is, just as long as you love me, phill I
- 23:57do. Anyway that showed her to me, I can introduce to a perfect
- 24:03strain. We'll get acquainted with her together. Well, come on, Nick,
- 24:07our job's finished. Let's go home. Oh, doctor Clay, I
- 24:12think i'd like to have a look at missus Ashforth's baby. Of course,
- 24:15I'll have a nurse show it to you just a moment, please. Is
- 24:19the first time I ever knew you to show an interest in the nursery.
- 24:22I'm playing a hunch, Patsy, Oh, a hunch that may split this
- 24:26case wide open. Mister Carter, this is where we keep the babies.
- 24:40I'm sorry you can't go in, but I've asked the other nurse to bring
- 24:42the baby to the window. I'll motion to her. You're having many babies
- 24:45here, have you? And no, this is a small private hospital.
- 24:48You see. Oh, there she is. It's a fine, healthy looking
- 24:52little girl, isn't she? So that's supposed to be the Ashforth baby?
- 24:56What do you mean supposed there's a name on a tape. I put it
- 25:00there myself. That baby's at least three days old. Morrow reporce if for
- 25:03use at her delivery. Betsy, you heard missus Ashworth say she had a
- 25:07very easy time. You mean it's been a miss Cake mistake nothing, It's
- 25:11been a criminal substitution nurse. How much did mister Timothy Brent pay you to
- 25:15substitute a girl for a boy baby? How dare you? I'll call doctor
- 25:18Clay and have you arrested for slam. Oh? No, you won't.
- 25:21Of course. If you do, I'll insist that the police take a blood
- 25:22test of that baby, and if that test proves the baby's blood does not
- 25:26belong to mister and missus Asforth's blood group, you will end up in behind
- 25:30bars for a long, long stretch. Oh no, no don't, I'll
- 25:33tell you everything. I did it for Timothy Brent. He said his niece
- 25:37would lose her mind if she had a boy baby. He said, why,
- 25:41I had nothing to do with you, did mister Brince? You brought
- 25:44her here, you arrange for the whole thing. Well, you double crossing?
- 25:47Look easy, easy, you'll wake the patients. Now, the nurse,
- 25:52where's the real? Last word? Baby? The boy in the first
- 25:53crib by the door, mister Carter, you're sure there's no mistake this time?
- 25:57Yes, that's the Ashworth baby. Very well, that's see. I
- 26:02think we'll introduce him to his mother. We'll talk to you later, nurse,
- 26:04and to you, mister. I wouldn't have done it, but mister
- 26:07Prince said, I have nothing to do with this. Later, Brent later.
- 26:11All right, Patsy, go get the baby. Don't you want to
- 26:14carry him in? Nick? Good? Heavens nofraid I might break him.
- 26:18Ah here we are all right, Come on, come on, come on,
- 26:38missus Ashford. It seems has been a slight mix up. Maybe they
- 26:41brought you before. I belong to someone else, so we we thought you
- 26:45might like to see yours. It's a boy. Bring him in, patsy.

- 29:00why didn't you have that old reprobate uncle Tim Brand arrested? Yes? Nick,
- 29:04how come you let him go free? When the DA's office goes over
- 29:07his books in order to straighten out the kid's inheritance, they'll do plenty to
- 29:11him without my help. Oh, of course, So that's why he had
- 29:15to change the boy for a girl. He's been up to some shenanigans with
- 29:18his brother's fortune. Obviously, Nick, when did you first aspect the uncle
- 29:22right away? Oh? Just like that? Eh, it couldn't have been
- 29:26anybody else. A man who met Nora on the hospital steps had to be
- 29:29responsible for her disappearance. Only two men knew she was on her way to
- 29:33the hospital, her husband and her uncle. That's right, Her husband was
- 29:36left at the post never caught up with her. Therefore it had to be
- 29:38the uncle. Well, Nick, it was quite a story. Now,
- 29:41what can you tell us about next week's Kates? Well, let's see.
- 29:45Next week. I think I'll tell you about the pompous chemical magnet who rang
- 29:49our doorbell one evening, clad in pajamas, overcoat and bare feet, and
- 29:53the pajama legs were partly burned off. In fact, that was the third
- 29:56night in a row that the old boy had been thrown out of a hotel.
- 30:00Hold it, Patsy, Let's not give the whole plot away. That
- 30:02comes next week. Well what do you call that story, Nick? I
- 30:04call it the strange case of the Involuntary Firebug. Nick Carter, Master Detective
- 30:22is featured in Street and Smith magazines. Lon Clark is starred as Nick,
- 30:26with Helen Chot as Patsy. Original music is played by Loue. White.
- 30:30The programs are written by Edith Miser, and any resemblance there into actual persons
- 30:34living or dead is purely coincidental. The entire production is under the direction of
- 30:41Jack McGregor. Nick Carter. Master Detective is presented this time and over these
- 31:00same stations each week by the three great Linux Home Bright News, Linux Clear
- 31:07Glass Varnish, Linux Cream Polish, and Linux Self Polishing Wax created by ACME
- 31:14America's great producer of ACME Fine Quality Paints. This is Ken Poull speaking for
- 31:18the thousands of Linux dealers all over America and saying so long until next week.
- 31:32This is the mutual broadcasting system. Welcome back. Well. A nice
- 31:41mystery and a few good twists and turns along the way, and just a
- 31:47pretty overall interesting plot makes us one better than last week's, though I think
- 31:53this may be the last one we hear from Edith miser. Well. Now
- 31:56we turn to some listener calm and feedback. I've talked before about the rarity
- 32:06of people in their thirties and unders being old time radio listeners. And listener
- 32:16from Winnipeg, Canada. Her name is Sheila. I believe I apologize if
- 32:22I'm mispronouncing it well, she writes in plays consider mister Graham that even those
- 32:35over forty find their friends do not understand why we like old time radio.
- 32:39I am fifty this year and do not personally know one person who listens to
- 32:44old time radio. I didn't grow up listening to radio shows. If there
- 32:46were any on, we didn't listen, and I never heard any of my
- 32:50friends talking about them. I first got access to them on because said in
- 32:53my twenties, and again knew no one else who listened. People under forty
- 32:58like them for the same reason that we will forty like them. They're entertaining
- 33:00and fun and the slice of life they show us from back then is fascinating.
- 33:07There's certainly something to be said for that. And at the age curve
- 33:15on the listenership of this program, the top age bracket is forty six to
- 33:22fifty five, and if you are fifty five, you were three years old
- 33:30at on September thirtieth of nineteen sixty two, when the last of the Golden
- 33:37Age radio programs ceastaring. And usually when we hear from listeners about their associations
- 33:46with old time radio in their childhood, it involves tapes, or it involved
- 33:54traveling with someone and listening to the radio late at night i'd or involve some
- 34:00other program like the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. So in some ways. It
- 34:07is an oddity at or I should say, maybe unusual be a better word,
- 34:13at any age, though it may seem a little more unusual the younger
- 34:20the person that we're talking about. All right, well, that will do
- 34:27it for today. We will be back tomorrow with yours truly Johnny Dowler,
- 34:32and join us back here next Thursday for another episode of Nick Carter. In
- 34:37the meanwhile, send your comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net,
