- 1:07Speaker 5: is week zero.
- 1:07Speaker 2: How are you?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Hey. You think I'm doing good? How about yourself?
- 1:12Speaker 2: We're doing good.
- 1:12Speaker 5: We're sitting here, believe it or not, Chris, we're talking
- 1:15Speaker 5: hot seats for college football because there's a big piece
- 1:19Speaker 5: out by Ross Tellinger on, you know, hey, I know
- 1:22Speaker 5: the season's starting, but there could be a lot of dominoes,
- 1:26Speaker 5: so to speak, to fall. I will get your thoughts
- 1:28Speaker 5: on a couple games in college, maybe some NFL. We
- 1:31Speaker 5: were talking quarterbacks and, you know, our listeners are very educated.
- 1:36Speaker 5: They do a great job of keeping us straight. And,
- 1:38Speaker 5: you know, DJ Lagway, we'll start at Baylor, is going
- 1:42Speaker 5: to be expected to basically save Dave Aranda's job, right?
- 1:46Speaker 5: And Dave Aranda made the comment, and I'm paraphrasing several
- 1:48Speaker 5: months ago, that felt like they would see the real
- 1:51Speaker 5: DJ Lagway. He was kind of put in a box,
- 1:53Speaker 5: put in a stray jacket. Billy Napier didn't do him
- 1:54Speaker 5: any favors. And I made the comment, I said, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 5: there's not a lot of quarterbacks typically that go, you know,
- 2:00Speaker 5: if you're marginal at school X, you're going to be
- 2:02Speaker 5: marginal at school Y. You know, very rarely do you
- 2:04Speaker 5: see the kind of that uptick, that Mendoza effect. You know,
- 2:08Speaker 5: if you're not good, then you transfer, you're probably not
- 2:11Speaker 5: going to be good there either, and you transfer down.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Several people have mentioned Bo Nix when he transferred from
- 2:16Speaker 5: Auburn to Oregon. Burrow, obviously, from Ohio State to LSU.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels, Arizona State to LSU. Can DJ Lagway have
- 2:28Speaker 5: that type of swing season for Baylor and Dave Aranda?
- 2:33Speaker 1: No, not that type. No, I think he can. Look,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I mean, the reason is, Most of those cases, the
- 2:42Speaker 1: player loses his job for whatever reason, and he goes
- 2:44Speaker 1: into a situation, and the team's not good enough around him.
- 2:48Speaker 1: There are exceptions to that. You just mentioned a couple
- 2:51Speaker 1: of them. And guys can get better. He's got some
- 2:58Speaker 1: limitations in his physical skills that's going to hinder it,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and they're not good enough around him. Now, I think
- 3:04Speaker 1: it's manageable enough in the Big 12 where they can
- 3:07Speaker 1: win some games. go to a bowl game. But do
- 3:10Speaker 1: I expect, say, for example, them to go on like
- 3:14Speaker 1: a Texas Tech type run and have a really good
- 3:17Speaker 1: season and make the playoff? That would be the answer
- 3:19Speaker 1: to yes, he can have that type of impact. I
- 3:22Speaker 1: don't see that with him. So I don't see the
- 3:25Speaker 1: team that's being good enough. And I think the issue
- 3:29Speaker 1: overall in the big picture with Dave and Baylor is
- 3:32Speaker 1: just that They put money into the program. They don't
- 3:36Speaker 1: have the sugar daddy guy like Texas Tech does. So
- 3:39Speaker 1: they're limited in NIL, but Dave's a really good coach,
- 3:44Speaker 1: not that great of a recruiter, and they've got to
- 3:48Speaker 1: improve that. And they've got to improve that as an organization,
- 3:53Speaker 1: as an athletic department, as a football program, and so
- 3:57Speaker 1: that they can get on board where they're going to
- 3:59Speaker 1: put the type of money necessary and they're going to
- 4:02Speaker 1: need to have guys that really put an emphasis on
- 4:05Speaker 1: recruiting and can get those guys, both the college game
- 4:08Speaker 1: and the high school evaluations. And, you know, more than
- 4:12Speaker 1: just coaching, I think Dave to some degree is maybe
- 4:16Speaker 1: a better, um, assistant coach, better coordinator than maybe a
- 4:21Speaker 1: head coach. At least that's what's been proven thus far.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Chris Landry talking college football on a Monday, get him
- 4:26Speaker 5: at Landry football.com, get his podcast on YouTube, subscribe and more.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Luke fickle at Wisconsin is in a, in a pickle
- 4:33Speaker 5: of a year. And they're another program that hasn't really
- 4:36Speaker 5: embraced NIO like a lot of their Big Ten brethren.
- 4:38Speaker 5: They play Notre Dame at Lambeau Field on September 6th.
- 4:41Speaker 5: That thing can get sideways quickly, as could his tenure
- 4:45Speaker 5: at Wisconsin, could it not?
- 4:47Speaker 1: It could. Fickle in a pickle. I thought you did that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: That's very good. That's why you're the pro, the radio pro.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm just a little flabbergasted at how bad it's been.
- 4:58Speaker 1: The fun from Cincinnati going into the Big Ten at
- 5:00Speaker 1: Wisconsin is a challenge. but I thought they would be competitive,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and I mean, they just haven't done anything. They haven't
- 5:10Speaker 1: really recruited or developed well. Now, it coincides with the
- 5:13Speaker 1: fact that Wisconsin is not going to be one of
- 5:15Speaker 1: those big NIL guys, so it has something to do
- 5:20Speaker 1: with it, but that his first year, you know, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: thought that, first of all, I did not like philosophically
- 5:28Speaker 1: how he built that staff, and we're going to spread
- 5:30Speaker 1: things out. That's That's not what you do at Wisconsin.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So I thought he set the program back with some
- 5:36Speaker 1: of his first-year decisions, and now I just think they're
- 5:39Speaker 1: kind of in a hole that's going to be deeper
- 5:41Speaker 1: and tougher to get out of because I just don't
- 5:44Speaker 1: think in this NIL game that, look, they're a developmental program.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And so, you know, I think that they've been able
- 5:51Speaker 1: to recruit maybe a tad better than the Iowas of
- 5:53Speaker 1: the world in the Big Ten, but at certain spots,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but they really develop players. And I just don't think
- 6:03Speaker 1: they're going to get the top caliber player. So that
- 6:08Speaker 1: doesn't surprise me that they're not challenging for the upper
- 6:12Speaker 1: echelon of the Big Ten. I didn't think that. I
- 6:14Speaker 1: think once they split up the east and west of
- 6:18Speaker 1: the Big Ten, I thought it was going to be
- 6:20Speaker 1: a problem for them. It has been. But what's really
- 6:23Speaker 1: compounded is that I just don't think Luke's done a
- 6:26Speaker 1: very good job with his staff. I don't think they've
- 6:28Speaker 1: done a very good job of being able to coach
- 6:31Speaker 1: those guys through some of the issues. And I think
- 6:33Speaker 1: they went away from what they do best. They could
- 6:37Speaker 1: be a good physical line of scrimmage team, good upfront defensively.
- 6:41Speaker 1: They've lost a little bit of that. And they've, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: Wisconsin going to be this open, aggressive attack is just
- 6:49Speaker 1: not what they do. They don't want the quarterback play.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They don't want the athletes to do that. And they've just,
- 6:54Speaker 1: they've really kind of fallen flat on their face and,
- 6:57Speaker 1: The sad part is they're likely going to have to
- 6:59Speaker 1: make a move if they do so, and they're going
- 7:02Speaker 1: to have to, you know, maybe go in a completely
- 7:07Speaker 1: different direction that maybe has to kind of correct some
- 7:09Speaker 1: of those issues. I hate saying it because you never
- 7:12Speaker 1: know what would have happened, but, you know, I really,
- 7:15Speaker 1: really thought, and I think they did sniff around, but
- 7:20Speaker 1: I thought Lance Lappel would have been a much better
- 7:22Speaker 1: hire for them at that time. But I know Lance
- 7:25Speaker 1: was kind of committed to where he was, but being
- 7:27Speaker 1: a Wisconsin guy and everything, I thought that would have
- 7:30Speaker 1: been a really good fit.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Chris, when you look at a couple more of these
- 7:35Speaker 5: guys that are possibly– I mean, Bill Belichick, they play
- 7:39Speaker 5: a week zero game. I guess we can go ahead
- 7:41Speaker 5: and get your thoughts on that one.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I know you're not a gamer.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Eight-and-a-half-point underdog in Vegas to TCU. I've said for two
- 7:48Speaker 5: weeks this feels like a slam dunk. I just– I
- 7:50Speaker 5: feel like TCU may– knock them straight out and never
- 7:54Speaker 5: look back this weekend?
- 7:57Speaker 1: They might. I expect them to win it. They're the
- 7:59Speaker 1: better team. I just think there's a little bit of
- 8:01Speaker 1: an unknown, obviously, with just don't know how effective the
- 8:06Speaker 1: quarterback play is going to be for North Carolina. I
- 8:08Speaker 1: know they've made the decision. They're lucky he had a
- 8:11Speaker 1: pretty good offseason in spring. I do think there's a
- 8:16Speaker 1: chance just, you know, that they're going to be improved
- 8:21Speaker 1: at North Carolina this year. Improved. Not necessarily good. A
- 8:26Speaker 1: little better defensively. I think last year was a complete turmoil. Now,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I just don't think the roster is very good. Jake,
- 8:33Speaker 1: that's going to be the undoing, and it's going to
- 8:35Speaker 1: catch them in games. But don't be surprised if they
- 8:39Speaker 1: play better and maybe play over their roster. But they're
- 8:44Speaker 1: just not nearly as good of a program. in terms
- 8:48Speaker 1: of a roster since they made those moves. That kind
- 8:51Speaker 1: of really falls to Michael Lombardi, who's right now being
- 8:57Speaker 1: investigated and away from the program. But that's Bill's biggest
- 9:03Speaker 1: mistake he's made.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Make sure to get him on X, get him on TikTok,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and more. He is Chris Landry.

- 11:09Speaker 5: Chris Landry on your radio as we move through college
- 11:13Speaker 5: and the NFL. Chris, I know there's some other games.
- 11:15Speaker 5: San Jose State, USC, NC State, Virginia, and a few
- 11:19Speaker 5: more here. Memphis UNLV late Saturday.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Any other game?
- 11:23Speaker 5: I know you'll be looking at games that has piqued
- 11:26Speaker 5: your interest off week zero.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, NC State, Virginia. Just kind of a middle of
- 11:31Speaker 1: the ACC good game. two teams curious to kind of
- 11:36Speaker 1: see how they get off to a start. Um, that
- 11:39Speaker 1: that's probably that in the, in North Carolina TCU game,
- 11:42Speaker 1: which we talked about are the ones that he's on
- 11:45Speaker 1: paper should be the most competitive. The others are just
- 11:48Speaker 1: to kind of see, you know, a little bit, um,
- 11:51Speaker 1: USC a little bit, and it kind of what their
- 11:53Speaker 1: defense is doing. Um, you know, it's not going to
- 11:57Speaker 1: be a great task, but then you mentioned Memphis UNLV
- 12:00Speaker 1: is going to, you know, maybe be a little intriguing for, um,
- 12:03Speaker 1: Saturday night. Yeah, it's a very soft weekend. We've got
- 12:06Speaker 1: to wait until next week to get excited. But in
- 12:10Speaker 1: some ways, I can't believe we're already there. We're a
- 12:14Speaker 1: week away from the Week 1 matchups, which we know
- 12:17Speaker 1: are huge.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Chris, let's pivot over to the NFL. We've got the
- 12:20Speaker 5: last preseason week coming up. Kind of take us through
- 12:24Speaker 5: where teams are at in decision-making processes. We know that
- 12:27Speaker 5: typically the last preseason game is very uneventful.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Well, you will see some teams play some starters next
- 12:36Speaker 1: week to get some work. It's kind of the game
- 12:39Speaker 1: that maybe prepares you the most for getting some rhythm
- 12:44Speaker 1: for the start of the regular season, along with maybe
- 12:49Speaker 1: you will see guys that are playing that are basically
- 12:54Speaker 1: playing for their jobs. I do think that guys that
- 12:57Speaker 1: maybe have shown enough that they want to keep. They
- 12:59Speaker 1: may not get as many reps. The ones that get
- 13:01Speaker 1: a lot of reps outside of the reps that the
- 13:04Speaker 1: starters get are the ones that need to show something
- 13:09Speaker 1: to make the final roster. With only three, and I
- 13:13Speaker 1: say only three, I've been in a round off where
- 13:16Speaker 1: we had four, and even before that it was six.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It's important to kind of make those final decisions. You
- 13:22Speaker 1: also want to kind of maybe protect certain guys if
- 13:25Speaker 1: you'd like. certain guys that you think have practiced well
- 13:28Speaker 1: enough that you want to have them on your developmental squad.
- 13:31Speaker 1: You don't want to expose them in film and have
- 13:34Speaker 1: them play very well because in order to put them
- 13:37Speaker 1: on your developmental squad, you've got to release them and
- 13:39Speaker 1: then sign them. So if you kind of expose that
- 13:42Speaker 1: on film, then somebody else may pick them up and
- 13:47Speaker 1: then therefore you can't put them to your practice squad.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So it's a little bit of a cat and mouse game.
- 13:52Speaker 1: This point in the short answer, I should say that
- 13:55Speaker 1: you know pretty much what your roster is going to be.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's just the last few spots. You need to keep
- 14:02Speaker 1: the remainder guys for practice so that you're able to
- 14:05Speaker 1: get through practice this week and help to determine who
- 14:09Speaker 1: those last five spots on the roster are going to be,
- 14:13Speaker 1: which are the toughest because you've got, you know, maybe
- 14:18Speaker 1: it usually comes down to about three or four spots
- 14:21Speaker 1: or maybe about seven, eight, nine guys for those spots.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Chris, I'd be remiss without asking you. We haven't even
- 14:27Speaker 2: talked about it.
- 14:29Speaker 5: The college players coming back from the NFL, man, what
- 14:33Speaker 5: a time we're living in.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Your thoughts on this?
- 14:36Speaker 5: I kind of have the opinion that if they're going
- 14:37Speaker 5: to pull this this year, I know they said it's
- 14:39Speaker 5: just a one-year deal. Boy, they're opening themselves up for
- 14:42Speaker 5: Lord knows what kind of lawsuits moving forward past this year.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. I'm probably more interested in what happens
- 14:54Speaker 1: maybe as early as tomorrow. in the SEC. And I
- 14:58Speaker 1: know some coaches in the SEC are not really happy
- 15:01Speaker 1: right now about the fact that nothing's been said to
- 15:05Speaker 1: this point. There are things that the SEC can do
- 15:08Speaker 1: with regard to having its own rules about transferring from
- 15:13Speaker 1: one conference school to another. This is a little bit
- 15:16Speaker 1: of maybe a circumvent of that. Let's see what Gert
- 15:21Speaker 1: Sankey has to say. And I'm sure there's actually a
- 15:25Speaker 1: meeting tomorrow. I don't know if they'll announce anything tomorrow.
- 15:28Speaker 1: But there's a meeting. The presidents are meeting tomorrow in
- 15:34Speaker 1: a conference call with the commissioner. And I mean, this
- 15:37Speaker 1: is certainly topic number one in what they're going to
- 15:41Speaker 1: do about it, because, no, this is it's it's beyond chaotic.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We've discussed ad nauseum to the point where no one
- 15:48Speaker 1: wants to hear it anymore, how screwed up it is
- 15:51Speaker 1: and how ridiculous things are. But this is kind of
- 15:55Speaker 1: what leads to it. When you had a chance years
- 16:00Speaker 1: ago to streamline things, make things a little better, now
- 16:04Speaker 1: you lost. I'm talking about the NCAA. You lost everything
- 16:07Speaker 1: in lawsuits. You're afraid of lawsuits. You're going to continue
- 16:10Speaker 1: to lose in lawsuits, but This is the get their
- 16:14Speaker 1: hands around this. It's beyond, I mean, it's just crazy
- 16:20Speaker 1: that that, look, it's going to lead to more issues.
- 16:24Speaker 1: This is one issue. This is not going to be
- 16:27Speaker 1: just one issue. This is going to be a problem.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You open up a can of worms, you're going to
- 16:31Speaker 1: have players that may not, that may want to leave
- 16:35Speaker 1: camp because they think they're not going to make it
- 16:37Speaker 1: and say, I'm going to go and get this offer.
- 16:41Speaker 1: because I'm probably not going to make this NFL roster.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'm going to go back to XYZ University and get
- 16:47Speaker 1: paid a lot and then maybe develop. Now, that's what
- 16:50Speaker 1: we try to tell them beforehand, to think of that
- 16:53Speaker 1: before you go into the draft, that maybe you're not ready.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But this is a case where they figure out they're
- 16:59Speaker 1: not ready and then try to go back. I don't
- 17:03Speaker 1: know that we want that to be the norm going forward.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So it's going to be interesting to see what, if anything,
- 17:09Speaker 1: is done about it.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Talking with Chris Landry, LandryFootball.com. It is Monday. Chris, a
- 17:15Speaker 5: couple more minutes here. Deshaun Watson named starting quarterback of
- 17:18Speaker 5: the Cleveland Browns. Any surprise out of that, or are
- 17:22Speaker 5: they just going to roll with it and see what happens?
- 17:25Speaker 1: That's a mess. I mean, the Browns are a mess.
- 17:28Speaker 1: It's just been so long. It's a comedy of errors.
- 17:32Speaker 1: They don't really... Shadur Sanders hasn't played all that well.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Deshaun hasn't played all that well either. You got him
- 17:39Speaker 1: that His background, he got booed. I'm sure you heard
- 17:43Speaker 1: about it, saw it. He got booed. He came out,
- 17:47Speaker 1: snapped against the fans, and the very next day they
- 17:49Speaker 1: named him the starter, which you don't name a person
- 17:52Speaker 1: starter or not name him because of maybe what he
- 17:56Speaker 1: says or whatever. But, boy, this is going to be interesting.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I would suspect that the play, and they've got pretty
- 18:02Speaker 1: decent defense, the play will be insufficient enough several games
- 18:07Speaker 1: into the season, if not before, that they'll put Sanders in,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and then probably by the end of the year, we'll
- 18:13Speaker 1: figure out that they don't have an answer. Hopefully for them,
- 18:16Speaker 1: they do. Hopefully Shadur is. Not sure that he is.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Then they're going to be back to, oh, let's everyone
- 18:23Speaker 1: repeat again, the Browns will need a quarterback. There is
- 18:27Speaker 1: no doubt. I don't know that anything can come close
- 18:31Speaker 1: to it. You never know. But the worst decision in
- 18:35Speaker 1: the history of the NFL quarterback decisions is was the
- 18:39Speaker 1: guaranteed contract to Deshaun Watson. That didn't blow up in
- 18:44Speaker 1: their face. That just blew up, period. Releasing him would
- 18:49Speaker 1: cost them well over $ 120 million against the Cavs. Because
- 18:54Speaker 1: not only did they make an awful decision, they doubled
- 18:58Speaker 1: down on it and restructured his deal. So they back
- 19:02Speaker 1: ended the contract. So that's when I say they owed
- 19:06Speaker 1: $ 120 million against the Cavs. It's because they continue to
- 19:09Speaker 1: backload the contract two or three times when they should
- 19:12Speaker 1: have let him go and eaten that contract up years ago.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But bad owners make organizations rot from the top.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Chris, let's finish it up with Fernando Mendoza. Your thoughts?
- 19:23Speaker 5: Obviously, he's a very interesting interview. You know, he's very kind,
- 19:29Speaker 5: very considerate, and he's played some pretty good football.
- 19:32Speaker 1: He has. You know, the team's not ready enough. I mean,
- 19:36Speaker 1: the offensive line play. The overall running game on offense,
- 19:41Speaker 1: they're not quite ready. I think that he'll probably sit him.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I think Clint Kubiak will have a good plan to
- 19:47Speaker 1: develop him. I think he'll do a good job with him.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Him.
- 19:51Speaker 1: But, you know, that's a tough division. I can tell you,
- 19:54Speaker 1: he's not ready from a decision-making under pressure. And, boys,
- 20:01Speaker 1: you're going to be under a lot of pressure. Any
- 20:03Speaker 1: quarterback will be. So the direction to go there is
- 20:06Speaker 1: go with the veteran, let him sit, let him learn.
- 20:10Speaker 1: He's going to work hard. He's going to be obviously
- 20:13Speaker 1: tied to that quarterback room and really work a lot
- 20:16Speaker 1: of reps in practice and begin to see the field
- 20:18Speaker 1: a little bit better. Because the worst combination is if
- 20:22Speaker 1: you don't know where to go with your reads under pressure,
- 20:25Speaker 1: rush pressure, then behind an offensive line that's going to
- 20:31Speaker 1: leak oil, that's the worst combination to have. So that's
- 20:34Speaker 1: how I think they're going to play it. and I
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't know that he'll play a lot this year. Depending
- 20:39Speaker 1: on injury, he may not. But then again, at some point,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I expect him to get some reps and see where
- 20:45Speaker 1: he can go and develop from there.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Hey, this is Chris Landry. Make sure to get him
- 20:49Speaker 5: on LandryFootball.com. Get him on X and TikTok. Make sure

- 22:09Speaker 5: You can text us 601-885-3776. Pocahontas and Pocahontas says, how
- 22:15Speaker 5: time flies. Peyton Manning's kid, Marshall, made headlines for being
- 22:19Speaker 5: a ninth grade QB. Next thing Pocahontas knew, He was
- 22:22Speaker 5: enrolled at Baylor. Well, that's Baylor High School. Have you
- 22:26Speaker 5: seen any more about young Marshall? They're out there looking
- 22:31Speaker 5: at his throw and style, comparing him to Peyton Manning?
- 22:32Speaker 4: No, I saw that wildly normal throw that you were
- 22:36Speaker 4: salivating over the other day. I finally did see that.
- 22:39Speaker 4: That just regular throw that was really nothing special that
- 22:44Speaker 4: you were telling me about the other day. I finally
- 22:47Speaker 4: saw it.
- 22:48Speaker 2: But you didn't see the similarities of Peyton Manning? In
- 22:51Speaker 2: all of that?
- 22:52Speaker 4: I didn't really see it. I mean, Mikko said it's there,
- 22:55Speaker 4: and I'm going to believe Mikko. But I don't really remember, like,
- 23:00Speaker 4: specifically Peyton Manning, his jock back to the huddle.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 4: I'm sure it was there.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Brown Hornets talk about Lebby being Arbrow's son-in-law, res dog.
- 23:10Speaker 5: MSU's KJ Costello is the leading single game passer in
- 23:13Speaker 5: the SEC after transferring from USC.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Put some respect on his name. I don't know. Did
- 23:20Speaker 2: he come from USC? It was Stanford, wasn't it?
- 23:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Should we put respect on KJ Costello's name? No, you
- 23:29Speaker 2: should not.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Rebel Godfather. Bank on it. One job that Lane covets
- 23:34Speaker 5: is Southern Cal. Do you think Lane's leaving LSU for
- 23:37Speaker 5: Southern Cal? Does he want to go back to that?
- 23:39Speaker 2: He's already done that.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I feel like it was one of the greatest times
- 23:46Speaker 4: of his life, though. You never know about these coaches.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 4: They're old jobs, man. It could be like a great
- 23:52Speaker 4: ex-girlfriend that he's just still kind of in love with.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Could be. Mr. DX, Jake, who haven't you forgot? I
- 24:00Speaker 2: don't know. Who haven't I forgot? Jason and Flagstaff.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Nobody played well under Moorhead except Fitzgerald, who could run
- 24:10Speaker 5: like the wind blows, running for his life. He says,
- 24:14Speaker 5: now he's mad all over again, remembering the absolute goof
- 24:17Speaker 5: Moorhead trying to make Fitzgerald a pocket passer.
- 24:20Speaker 2: In the rain in Kentucky.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I love how Jason, within two texts, three minutes apart,
- 24:28Speaker 4: he texted himself into some anger. There's a normal text
- 24:33Speaker 4: to begin with, and just bringing up Fitzgerald, though, reminded
- 24:37Speaker 4: him how.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Why did I forget the coach's name already?
- 24:42Speaker 5: Moorhead.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Moorhead. Reminded him how Moorhead screwed that up, and now
- 24:46Speaker 4: he's all super angry.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Size your ring up, son.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 2: That was Moorhead with a zipper down. Unnamed texture.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Between the new SEC head coaches at Auburn, Florida, Kentucky,
- 24:58Speaker 5: and Arkansas, none of whom have previously been Power 5
- 25:01Speaker 5: or Power 4 head coaches, which do you think has
- 25:04Speaker 5: the most success this season? I'm going with Golish at
- 25:07Speaker 5: Auburn mainly because his starting quarterback of his prior job
- 25:12Speaker 5: transferred to Auburn and has a lot of reps already
- 25:14Speaker 5: under Golish.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I would say probably Golish. What do you think?
- 25:17Speaker 4: I agree. Uh, Mainly because, well, go with this guy,
- 25:24Speaker 4: Byron Brown. Did I get that name right? It was
- 25:26Speaker 4: Byron Brown.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yes, Byron Brown.
- 25:28Speaker 4: He had some pretty good numbers at South Florida. Now,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I don't know how much I can put into numbers
- 25:34Speaker 4: at South Florida, but they look good at least. And
- 25:37Speaker 4: let's see, two of our other options are Kentucky and Arkansas.
- 25:40Speaker 4: Just disqualify that immediately just because it's Kentucky and Arkansas.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Not a believer in Arkansas. Kentucky's new head football coach
- 25:48Speaker 5: wants you to believe in him. He said he's ready
- 25:51Speaker 5: to go. He said if they win, it will be
- 25:53Speaker 5: in spite of him. Unnamed texter.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Flowood Donut Center sounds way better than Donation Center. Mr. DX.
- 26:01Speaker 2: QBs who have come up big. Oh, man. Let's see.
- 26:05Speaker 5: QBs that have come up big. We're talking about out
- 26:06Speaker 5: of the transfer portal. We got Burrow to LSU. We
- 26:09Speaker 5: got Jaden Daniels.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Mr. Mambo No.
- 26:13Speaker 5: 5 to LSU. Bonex to Oregon. Mendoza to Indiana. Luke
- 26:21Speaker 5: Altmyer to Illinois. I guess we'll throw in Garrett Schrader
- 26:25Speaker 5: in there. He had a decent career at Syracuse. Helicopter man.
- 26:30Speaker 5: And can we think of anybody else?
- 26:34Speaker 4: Top of my head now. Not right now.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Let's see here. Jason and Flagstaff.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Costello had that spectacular debut at State, then proceeded to
- 26:43Speaker 5: chuck four interceptions a game.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he did. He really, really did. All right, let's
- 26:48Speaker 2: see here.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Let's go back through some of these coaches on this list.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Do you have something to say?
- 26:54Speaker 4: Okay, so if we're looking at it like that, someone
- 26:59Speaker 4: who was down but then transferred and exploded in one year. Now,
- 27:07Speaker 4: it's technically this guy wasn't down. He was just not known.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Is this an instance where you could put Chambliss in there?
- 27:16Speaker 4: Not Chambliss. I don't know who this Chambliss is that
- 27:19Speaker 4: you keep talking about, but Chambliss.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Chambliss?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:23Speaker 2: You could.
- 27:24Speaker 5: And J-Rock mentions another one. Gardner Minshew to Washington State.
- 27:29Speaker 5: You could throw Gardner in there as well. Went from
- 27:31Speaker 5: East Carolina. You know, and again, I'm thinking 2021 forward.
- 27:35Speaker 5: You guys are doing a great job grabbing quarterbacks prior
- 27:37Speaker 5: to 2021.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Minshew was 18. And then Chambliss. Chambliss. Do I say
- 27:42Speaker 2: it wrong every time? Chambliss. Chambliss.
- 27:46Speaker 5: Yeah, throw both of them in there. Jeff Levy is
- 27:49Speaker 5: on this list. Coaches that could be fired before the
- 27:52Speaker 5: end of the year. And they mentioned the October slate.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Bama at LSU, Oklahoma at Texas. The success has to
- 28:04Speaker 5: come early. It has to come in the next month. Literally,
- 28:09Speaker 5: we're here. So it has to come next week against Monroe,
- 28:13Speaker 5: week two against Minnesota, Week three on the road at
- 28:17Speaker 5: South Carolina, both those back-to-back road games, and then home
- 28:20Speaker 5: against Missouri.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That's where the success has to happen.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Joe Mailman, if they had paid players when Fitzgerald was
- 28:26Speaker 5: at state, they would have won the national championship.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Are we sure about that? Do you believe that?
- 28:32Speaker 5: Because everybody else would have been paying players.
- 28:37Speaker 4: They would have won the national championship if they had
- 28:40Speaker 4: paid players when Fitzgerald was at state.
- 28:44Speaker 1: What?
- 28:45Speaker 4: Why would they have won the national championship if they
- 28:47Speaker 4: paid 50% fits?
- 28:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I'd be curious to know that myself. Unnamed texter, Will Howard,
- 28:55Speaker 5: Natty QB transfer. Yep, Will Howard was submitted earlier, but
- 29:00Speaker 5: Will Howard was good at Kansas State. He was pretty
- 29:03Speaker 5: darn good. And yes, they ended up winning the national
- 29:05Speaker 5: championship at Ohio State, so we'll throw him in there.
- 29:07Speaker 5: All right, Jeff Levy, is he going to be at
- 29:08Speaker 5: Mississippi State next year?
- 29:13Speaker 4: I'm going to say yes, because I feel like the
- 29:18Speaker 4: minimum will get people excited. And the minimum, I believe,
- 29:24Speaker 4: or what I mean here is six wins gets back
- 29:30Speaker 4: to a bowl, especially if they can get to seven somehow.
- 29:33Speaker 4: It's a little far-fetched, I know. But I feel like
- 29:36Speaker 4: that little bit, that little bit of hope, you get
- 29:39Speaker 4: back to a bowl. game, is going to get him
- 29:42Speaker 4: that four-year extension.
- 29:45Speaker 2: You're probably right. DX says, Chambliss is better than Chambliss. Probably.
- 29:51Speaker 5: And Mike from Brandon wants to know, is Norvell out
- 29:53Speaker 5: at Florida State? No, he is not out at Florida
- 29:55Speaker 5: State yet. We're going through a piece by Ross Dellinger.
- 29:58Speaker 5: He's kind of laying the the foundations for the coaching
- 30:01Speaker 5: landscape for this year, coaches that could be out. Now,
- 30:05Speaker 5: Mike Norvell is at the top of the pinnacle with
- 30:08Speaker 5: Lincoln Riley. And if both of those two coaches don't
- 30:12Speaker 5: make it, that's going to swing things crazy. Because somebody's
- 30:17Speaker 5: going to Florida State, somebody's going to USC, it's going
- 30:19Speaker 5: to open up jobs, and here we go.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Shane Beamer is on this list. Lincoln Riley, of course,
- 30:25Speaker 5: is on this list. Scott Satterfield, if you care, at
- 30:28Speaker 5: Cincinnati is on this list. He has a $ 6 to
- 30:33Speaker 5: $ 8 million buyout. But Cincinnati's never going to be what
- 30:38Speaker 5: Luke Fickle had Cincinnati to be. They're in the Big
- 30:43Speaker 5: 12 now, and I'm just looking through some of their schedule.
- 30:46Speaker 5: They have Texas Tech, Utah, Houston, and BYU. I would
- 30:48Speaker 5: say that Satterfield is probably out. You know, if I'm
- 30:50Speaker 5: looking at coaches that could be out, if we're projecting today,
- 30:55Speaker 5: I think Norvell will be out at Florida State.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I think.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Fickle will be out at Wisconsin. I think Aranda will
- 31:04Speaker 5: be out at Baylor. Mike Loxley, if you care, at Maryland.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Very nice team. Do you think Loxley, well, do you care?
- 31:12Speaker 1: No.
- 31:13Speaker 2: He's probably out.
- 31:14Speaker 4: No, Maryland doesn't matter.
- 31:17Speaker 5: Jeff Levy, I'm going to hold serve, and I'm not
- 31:19Speaker 5: being Chris Brooks here. I just want to see the
- 31:22Speaker 5: next four weeks. If he's 2-2, if he's 3-1, he
- 31:23Speaker 5: probably makes it. If he's 1-3, let's say they beat
- 31:32Speaker 5: Monroe but then lose the next three, he's out.
- 31:35Speaker 2: It's done.
- 31:36Speaker 5: He may not make it to November. Jason in Flagstaff,
- 31:40Speaker 5: where was Sam Levitt before ASU? Does he count already? Well, no,
- 31:44Speaker 5: he started at ASU, didn't he? And he took ASU,
- 31:49Speaker 5: Arizona State, to the playoffs. Let's see here. ResDog, when
- 31:54Speaker 5: Ole Miss loses to LSU, will Chambliss shut it down
- 31:57Speaker 5: and get ready for the draft?
- 31:59Speaker 3: No.
- 31:59Speaker 2: You've still got a whole year left to play.
- 32:02Speaker 5: JC, are we getting a parlay from Beaver to go
- 32:06Speaker 5: along with break-even picks this week?
- 32:08Speaker 2: Are you doing a parlay this week?
- 32:13Speaker 4: Are you doing your break-even picks? I don't really want
- 32:16Speaker 4: to participate in week zero. Typically don't week zero because
- 32:20Speaker 4: it's so loose. Normally, we just start week one. So, JC,
- 32:25Speaker 4: you have to wait another week.
- 32:27Speaker 2: One more week. We could do you a high school
- 32:28Speaker 2: football parlay. How about that? You want to do a
- 32:31Speaker 2: high school football parlay?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Sure.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I'll jump in with that.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:37Speaker 5: We'll do some high school football picks this week, and

- 34:32Speaker 5: All right, let's see here. A couple more texts here.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Jason and Flagstaff on the Cowboy Melanies text line says
- 34:39Speaker 5: that Levitt was at Michigan State, according to Google. He
- 34:41Speaker 5: may have went there for a year and not played
- 34:43Speaker 5: and then, you know, sat a year. I think that
- 34:46Speaker 5: may be right.
- 34:47Speaker 4: So, yeah, he attempted 23 passes in his one year
- 34:52Speaker 4: at Michigan State. That's how long he was there.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 5: And I don't count guys like that just because they
- 34:56Speaker 5: didn't play a whole lot. You know, his pop-off year
- 35:00Speaker 5: was Arizona State. Took him to the playoff. J-Rock, what
- 35:03Speaker 5: about Will Rogers transferring from the University of Brandon to
- 35:07Speaker 5: Mississippi State?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Smiling.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 5: I mean, look, he, but, you know, obviously high school
- 35:12Speaker 5: to college. His transfer, last transfer to Washington was a
- 35:17Speaker 5: decent year. It was not a great year. I named
- 35:19Speaker 5: text her. Jake, when it comes to this QB conversation,
- 35:22Speaker 5: there are too many to name. Kyler Murray, A &
- 35:25Speaker 5: M to OU. Well, Kyler Murray played well at Texas
- 35:33Speaker 5: A & M. Now, he won the Heisman at Oklahoma.
- 35:37Speaker 5: And a lot of Kyler Murray. If you remember, Kyler
- 35:38Speaker 5: Murray was there with Kyle McCord. There was another quarterback there.
- 35:44Speaker 5: Both of them ended up in the NFL.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Murray and then Kyle Allen.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Was still there. And that was more of a dispute.
- 35:52Speaker 5: That was a, if you go back, that was a
- 35:53Speaker 5: daddy dispute. Both dads were helicopter parents. Both dads wanted
- 35:58Speaker 5: their kids to play. Both dads got them out of there.
- 36:01Speaker 5: Jay Coker, Florida State to Bama. Jackson Dart from USC
- 36:09Speaker 5: to Ole Miss. Well, Dart would have been the starter
- 36:15Speaker 5: at USC. And again, it was Dart was so young
- 36:20Speaker 5: when he transferred out. I don't know that he fits
- 36:23Speaker 5: the criterion, does he?
- 36:26Speaker 4: No, but I can see where he's going because I
- 36:28Speaker 4: remember when he was still at USC and his name
- 36:32Speaker 4: was kind of getting mentioned up there and I was
- 36:34Speaker 4: just thinking, well, no, it was when he first transferred.
- 36:38Speaker 4: I didn't think he was going to do anything because
- 36:41Speaker 4: the little bit that we had seen at USC, I
- 36:43Speaker 4: saw nothing that made me think Jackson Dart was going
- 36:46Speaker 4: to be anything at Ole Miss. So, Which I was
- 36:49Speaker 4: completely wrong, so I see where he's going with that.
- 36:53Speaker 4: I mean, look, he got himself a first-round NFL pick
- 36:57Speaker 4: out of it, so that counts for something.
- 37:01Speaker 2: That's true.
- 37:02Speaker 4: In this argument.
- 37:03Speaker 5: KW says, Caleb Williams to Oklahoma, from Oklahoma to USC. Yeah,
- 37:06Speaker 5: but Caleb Williams was really, really good at Oklahoma. If
- 37:11Speaker 5: you remember, he took that job from, what's his name?
- 37:16Speaker 5: I was just sitting here trying to remember. This is
- 37:18Speaker 5: not a good memory day.
- 37:19Speaker 3: No.
- 37:20Speaker 5: New Orleans Saints quarterback. Played at USC. And Caleb Williams
- 37:26Speaker 5: was really good at Oklahoma. It would have stayed at Oklahoma.
- 37:28Speaker 5: The only reason he left was Lincoln Riley. And Baker
- 37:31Speaker 5: Mayfield from Texas Tech to Oklahoma. Now, that's one you
- 37:34Speaker 5: could say, yes, definitely average to, you know, much better.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Possum Neck Joe, according to all you jokers, I don't
- 37:44Speaker 5: know why State even needs a coach as long as
- 37:46Speaker 5: they have QB1.
- 37:48Speaker 4: You know, I'm starting, okay, Joe's starting, he's going to
- 37:51Speaker 4: make me go the opposite way now. I'm going to
- 37:54Speaker 4: go all in and try to find a Mississippi State
- 38:01Speaker 4: QB1 jersey shirt now. Just for Joe.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Just, yeah.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Speaking of jersey shirt, Saturday, this past Saturday, two days ago,
- 38:12Speaker 4: I was very impressed with a youth team. You know,
- 38:16Speaker 4: I'm not often complimentary of youths today, Jake.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:21Speaker 4: So I went to this, you know, they give away
- 38:24Speaker 4: the St. Jude Dream Home every year.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yep.
- 38:27Speaker 4: So I went and I was touring that on Saturday
- 38:30Speaker 4: and I was wearing my Joe Burrow jersey shirt, a.k.a. a.k.a.
- 38:34Speaker 4: the Burr's jurors. And this kid out of nowhere, he
- 38:37Speaker 4: looked like he was maybe 12, like 13 tops. And
- 38:41Speaker 4: he might have been younger. Because I think his parents
- 38:45Speaker 4: were actually hosting the whole thing. And he walked up
- 38:49Speaker 4: and he immediately says, under his breath, like I barely
- 38:53Speaker 4: caught it. He goes, who day? And then he was
- 38:57Speaker 4: telling us about this. This is square footage. He was
- 39:00Speaker 4: telling me beds and baths and whatnot. And then he
- 39:03Speaker 4: just seamlessly goes, go Bengals. I love that because. Mostly,
- 39:09Speaker 4: I think it's because I've never met an actual Bengals
- 39:13Speaker 4: fan around here.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Right. Not a true one.
- 39:16Speaker 4: His dad was in the kitchen, and he got to
- 39:17Speaker 4: talking about the Bengals, but I really appreciated that kid,
- 39:20Speaker 4: especially the random, just under your breath, who day he dropped.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 5: No, that's good that's cool makes you appreciate the youth
- 39:28Speaker 5: yeah no doubt kw jalen hurts from uh bam at
- 39:33Speaker 5: oklahoma i'm not going to count that one he helped
- 39:36Speaker 5: alabama to a national championship remember so he went on
- 39:40Speaker 5: to oklahoma to get out of to his way but
- 39:44Speaker 5: he won a national championship at oklahoma let's see will
- 39:46Speaker 5: rogers from Jason, was having a heck of a year
- 39:49Speaker 5: at Washington until they lost half their offensive line in
- 39:53Speaker 5: the Michigan State game, started 6-7-0. I think a weaker arm, Will,
- 39:59Speaker 5: was chunking 50-yard bombs every week for what it's worth.
- 40:02Speaker 5: All right, so David Cohn of On3 drops his SEC predictions,
- 40:07Speaker 5: and I think they're preposterous just because of the number
- 40:11Speaker 5: of double-digit win teams. He's got one, two, three, four, five,
- 40:14Speaker 5: six teams in the SEC with 10 wins or more.
- 40:18Speaker 5: He's got Texas and Georgia finishing 11-1. He's got Oklahoma,
- 40:23Speaker 5: Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama 10-2. Texas A & M,
- 40:28Speaker 5: Auburn 8-4. Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee 7-5. Florida and Vanderbilt 6-6.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Then he's got Arkansas, Kentucky, and Mississippi State at 2-10.
- 40:43Speaker 5: State fans can't take this. They cannot. Can they take
- 40:49Speaker 5: another 2-10? They can't take it. I'm telling you. I
- 40:55Speaker 5: hope for their sanity they're better than 2-10. Surely this
- 41:00Speaker 5: team is better than 2-10.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Aren't they?
- 41:05Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know. I don't know anymore after seeing
- 41:08Speaker 4: this for the last, what they've been doing the last
- 41:12Speaker 4: few years.
- 41:13Speaker 5: I think a lot of these 10-2s he has in
- 41:16Speaker 5: here will be 9-3s. And I think you're going to
- 41:19Speaker 5: have a cluster of 7-5s to 9-3s. Arkansas could finish 2-10. Kentucky,
- 41:25Speaker 5: I just don't think State's that bad. Not that bad.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Come on.
- 41:30Speaker 3: 2-10?
- 41:32Speaker 2: I just don't see it. Maybe I'm wrong.
- 41:36Speaker 5: Let's see here. KW, check to see if Hertz was
- 41:39Speaker 5: a starter when Bama won the natty. I believe he
- 41:41Speaker 5: was because I think he got pulled for two-a. And
- 41:46Speaker 5: Tua came in and then threw the overtime shot to
- 41:51Speaker 5: Devontae Smith, the walk-off touchdown.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I'm almost sure of that. Am I correct on that?
- 41:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 41:58Speaker 2: All right, we got any Aaron Rodgers news today?
- 42:00Speaker 4: No Aaron Rodgers. He's still quiet.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Let's see. I don't think I missed anything.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Planet Pearl, my prediction, Ole Miss loses starting quarterback game one.
- 42:10Speaker 5: They're the Mississippi team that'll go to– go to in
- 42:16Speaker 5: 10 after the racket.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I don't know that they're going to lose their quarterback
- 42:20Speaker 2: game one. I hope not. Let's see. Unnamed texture state
- 42:23Speaker 2: as a bowl team this year.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Tua came in one in the OT.
- 42:26Speaker 5: So, uh, and monkeys riding dogs, Jake, does this mean
- 42:30Speaker 5: we're going to have to listen to Kevin Todd for
- 42:32Speaker 5: the next six months starting this weekend? I don't think so.
- 42:35Speaker 5: I think you're clear. Remember ketchup is King. Bacon's a delicacy.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Aloha means goodbye. Be a man of increase. We have
- 42:41Speaker 5: reached the crescendo on a Monday.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Good night.
