- 0:46Talk. As we do every single week, we are going to be getting
- 0:50into some college football prospects. You know, the end of this a college
- 0:55football regular season is coming up here as we're heading into Thanksgiving. Heading into
- 1:00the holiday season, the bulls are going to be right around the corner.
- 1:03So we're going to be really looking at a lot of college football programs,
- 1:07some college football prospects for sure, to see who's going to be entering this
- 1:11twenty twenty four draft, who's going to be making it to the NFL,
- 1:15how they fit with certain teams. It's going to be a fun time for
- 1:19sure over these next few months evaluating these college football prospects. We got a
- 1:23great discussion coming your way. Let's get ranked to it. And it is
- 1:26great to have back on the podcast to get into some college football prospects.
- 1:30As we are coming up to the end of the regular season in college football,
- 1:37we're seeing a lot of prospects they're going to be making their way to
- 1:40the NFL, a lot of prospects that want to be professional football players and
- 1:44joining us this week. You're on Table Talk again. Love having him on
- 1:48the show at Rise and Draft. On the Twitter, yes I'm not calling
- 1:52it x yet, but on the Twitter at Rise and Draft you can also
- 1:56catch him and all his great content Breakdown dot Com and also our PM data
- 2:02as well, where they're breaking down some college prospects. We've got the one
- 2:07and only Ryan Roberts. How you doing, Buddy, I'm doing great.
- 2:09Jeh, I'm doing great. Man. I hope everything's good in your world.
- 2:13And yeah, you know, just howby to get back into the grind.
- 2:15Man. We're winding down the college football season. NFL is already halfway
- 2:19done. It's it's flying by, man. But I'm excited obviously going down
- 2:22the stretch here, absolutely because we're having the opportunity here Ryan to really see
- 2:27a lot of these developmental prospects kind of coming into their own. We're seeing
- 2:31what certain programs, certain football programs are doing throughout the country and how there
- 2:38is a either rising or falling themselves. And I wanted to talk to you
- 2:42specifically about one particular college football program, and that is the Penn State football
- 2:47program, because as a Penn State alum, I have been absolutely just pissed
- 2:52off at how this football program can never seem to get over the hump when
- 2:55it comes to playing Ohio State, when it comes to playing Michigan. It
- 2:59is this nonsense and garbage every freaking year. And now they fire their offensive
- 3:05coordinator, Mike You're You're your itch, And I'm wondering, like, what
- 3:10are your thoughts on what we continue to see year after year with this Penn
- 3:15State football program not being able to come through in big games with conference rivals
- 3:21like Ohio State and Michigan. As an alum, it really ticks me off.
- 3:25Please be open, Please be honest. You could probably see the Penn
- 3:29State you know, Garb that I have here in my little home studio,
- 3:34but I just need you to be honest about what this program is, where
- 3:38they're going in the future. Or where they're not going in the future.
- 3:40What are you thinking here, Ryan H Jeff, It's so tough man,
- 3:45because I mean this, this conversation in preseason always happens, right, What
- 3:50are the most talented rosters in all of college football? And I made a
- 3:54claim in the preseason and I believe this still, like this is truly my
- 3:59belief is that I think Penn State had the best roster in twenty twenty three
- 4:02in the entire Big Ten, and iiO State that obviously includes Michigan. I
- 4:08mean, Penn State has future NFL players everywhere, like everywhere. I mean,
- 4:14you have a kid that's probably gonna go Top five to ten at left
- 4:16tack, Colonolufshanu. You have Kaylin King, a corner who's going to go
- 4:20in the first round this year most likely. You have Adult Carter, who's
- 4:25the next big thing at inside linebacker. You have Chop Robinson and Disa Isaac
- 4:29at defensive ends, who are both very good football players and will be drafted
- 4:32pretty highly as well. You have two NFL tight ends on the roster with
- 4:36Theo Johnston and Tyler Warren. Running backs, Nick Singleton's probably going to be
- 4:41a top fifty pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft when he's there and
- 4:45K Tron Allen his backup is pretty dark goo football player himself. You know
- 4:47what I mean. It's a embarrassment of riches from a talent level perspective.
- 4:53And we went into the same conversation this offseason that we've been doing the last
- 4:58few years. It's like, is this Penn State does it? Is this
- 5:00the year they get over the hump? Is this year they get take the
- 5:02national championship? That's the conversation that was happening. And my stance was the
- 5:08same then as it is now on as a roster perspective. From a talent
- 5:13perspective, they can pee for a national championship in the pretty near future.
- 5:16But I in full transparency, James Franklin great recruiter, good spokesman for a
- 5:25program, really well spoken for the most part, really good person as well.
- 5:30I've heard nothing but grave reviews about him as far as the players love
- 5:33him. And there's a reason he recruits so well, right because the players
- 5:35really I think, mesh with him. But I don't think he's a very
- 5:40good in game coach. I think that there are limitations to him from a
- 5:45decision making perspective. From a preparation perspective, we've now seen it. Penn
- 5:49State is always going to beat the teams that they are just flat out better
- 5:54than. Yeah, but go into those big games of against Ohio State where
- 5:58you need to out coach Ohio State because I say, also has really good
- 6:00football players. Right, we're seeing that separation does not happen, right,
- 6:04and coaching and that in those games is the separator for a really good football
- 6:10team versus really good football team or these very talented football teams, I should
- 6:14say, And I think that he is. He's going to hold that team
- 6:17back from a on field perspective consistently. Yeah. I just think it's a
- 6:24pretty good off its scordinator. I know they look like poop this past weekend,
- 6:27right, like they did not look good at all against Michigan. But
- 6:30he's done some good things at Penn State. And I'll be like, again,
- 6:32I put this on Twitter. I think that he was the scapegoat for
- 6:35James Franklin. I think that's like, get all the attention off of him
- 6:39in the big games. It's Mike your sure, but sure, let's go
- 6:43with that, right. I just think that we have seen as good as
- 6:46it's probably going to get under James Franklin. I just don't anticipate them being
- 6:50a true national title contender. But I also am not sure that Penn State
- 6:56wants or feels like they need to make a change, right Like they're happy
- 7:00with being a very consistently good football team. But are you ready to say,
- 7:05but hey, we're not going to be an elite level football team in
- 7:09this current era of Penn State football. So if James Franklin is ever out
- 7:13of the door anytime soon over the next couple of years, the next head
- 7:15coach is going to come into this roster, he's gonna be like, dang
- 7:19man, I got some dudes to work with, so absolutely NFL players everywhere.
- 7:25And I know it sounds mean, like I don't mean it is the
- 7:28right word. I know it doesn't sound fair because again I said, James
- 7:30Franklin is a great recruiter, he's a good person, he's a good you
- 7:33know, a good symbol. But I don't think he's a great football coach.
- 7:36Yeah, I don't. I don't think great football coach. And I
- 7:40think he's going to hold that program back a little bit, at least from
- 7:42the on field in the biggest games perspective. That's I just think that that's
- 7:46gonna happen. It's great analysis, folks. I mean we heard it here
- 7:48from Ryan. We have heard time and time again, not just on this
- 7:53podcast. You hear it on you know, various radio stations throughout Pennsylvania.
- 7:58You hear it or read it, I should say, in various articles.
- 8:01It all comes down to James Franklin. Great analysis there from you for sure
- 8:05and Ryan. But you know, let's move on here and get getting into
- 8:09some college football prospects. So let's start off with the quarterback position here,
- 8:13because there's definitely gonna be some NFL teams next season, but we're definitely gonna
- 8:16be looking for a new quarterback or a quarterback that'll hopefully be their future,
- 8:22their franchise quarterback. You know, I think the Jets are certainly in that
- 8:26mix based on what happens with Aaron Rodgers and his career. Of course,
- 8:30the Saints and possibly Seattle maybe looking for their next quarterback of the future.
- 8:35We know Caleb Williams and Drake May you know, they're slated at this particular
- 8:39point to be number one, number two possibly taken in this upcoming draft in
- 8:43twenty twenty four. But there are other quarterbacks you know that could be a
- 8:48good fit for certain teams that are looking for that quarterback of the future.
- 8:54So what are your thoughts there? You know, who do you like coming
- 8:58out of the college ranks and could really make an impact in the future for
- 9:03some NFL teams. I think that this year from an NFL draft perspective,
- 9:07from an evaluator perspective, the quarterback rankings from three to ten, let's say,
- 9:13are going to separate good evaluators from bad evaluators, Because I think it's
- 9:18it's a foregone conclusion whether you have Drake may as one or Caleb Williams's one.
- 9:22I saw have Caleb Willams at one, because I still still think the
- 9:24upside is just tremendous. They are the top two quarterbacks in this class.
- 9:28So I think that that's pretty much consensus. Yeah, I know there's taking
- 9:33things out there, but like we look past those things, right, Like,
- 9:35those are the two top quarterbacks in the twenty twenty four NFL Draft.
- 9:39After that, there's a long list of potential right like bow Knicks from Oregon,
- 9:46Michael Pennix Junior from Washington. You have JJ McCarthy from Michigan. You
- 9:50have Camera Ward even from Washington States. You have Jayden Daniels from LSUS having
- 9:58a tremendous season so far, and all of a sudden, you know quarterback
- 10:01from from a quarterback from Georgia whose name's escaping me for some reason because I
- 10:07just did an ev out on him and I had his name, Carson Beck.
- 10:11I don't know how I almost becks name after the game he just had
- 10:15this past week against Old Miss was tremendous. So there is a long list
- 10:18of potential right who are those guys? But there's there's no absolute order here.
- 10:24No one knows who quarterback three is right now. I mean we can
- 10:26make guesses right for me and just throwing a couple of guys out the window
- 10:31as far as like separating, I'm not a JJ McCarthy guy out of Michigan.
- 10:35I'm not. I know that people are gonna say, oh, well,
- 10:39you know you didn't need to throw the football in the second half to
- 10:41beat Penn State and blah blah blah blah blah, that's Penn State's fault.
- 10:45And I'm just like, dude, in the biggest game in your season,
- 10:48so far you trusted your quarterback to throw the ball eight times and zero in
- 10:52the second half, people wouldn't say that that's not an indicator or whatever.
- 10:54It is an indicator that tells me that not trust there. Right, So
- 10:58I'm throwing him out the wind to already have I've not been a believer JJ
- 11:01McCarthy at least now. Michael PANICKX Junior really nice talent as far as arm
- 11:07strength and athletics is a perspective out of Washington. He really paints the outside
- 11:11like him throwing back shoulders and outside the numbers. It's really good inside not
- 11:18as good middle of the field stuff needs a lot of attention, and he
- 11:20has a long list of medicals I think are going to really bop him down
- 11:24the board a little bit. The two guys I'm most interested in, after
- 11:28Williams and Drake may One is Carson Beck that I just mentioned, who's kind
- 11:31of the new guy on the board. Right. He's a first year starter
- 11:35at Georgia. Obviously after Stetson Bennett went back to back championships. He early
- 11:39in the season was a game manager, right, don't mess it up.
- 11:43Be that guy. The last few weeks when Brock Bowers was out specifically,
- 11:46even though Rock came back this past weekend, he really got a lot more
- 11:52put on his plate as far as being the guy that's gonna lead the offense,
- 11:54not just being a part of the offense. He is a really talented
- 11:58thrower. He has good pocket awareness, good anticipation. There's a lot to
- 12:03like there. So he's a guy that I have my eyes on as far
- 12:05as moving up in this quarterback class potentially, even if even if he chooses
- 12:09to Claire, if he doesn't, I mean, then we'll talk about him
- 12:11in twenty twenty five obviously. And the other guy's Jane Daniels from LSU before
- 12:16the season. Was not a Jane Daniels guy I was. I thought he
- 12:20was a little gimmicky. I hate his I still hate his frame. I
- 12:22mean that kid is two hundred and four pounds soaking wet in the NFL.
- 12:24Like it's a little tough, right like that. It's a little bit of
- 12:28a tough frame, yep. And he needs to learn how to he needs
- 12:31to learn how to save his body a little bit right, get down,
- 12:33don't take the big hits unnecessarily. But kid always had a really good arm,
- 12:39even going down to Arizona State. He's seeing the game incredibly well.
- 12:43I've been talking to people over at LSU and he's in there Monday through Friday,
- 12:46sometimes even on the weekends five thirty in the morning, watching film like.
- 12:50He has good traits and characteristics there, and he's the dynamic athlete,
- 12:56right, So you need to I think you need to early on be a
- 12:58little bit creative how you was Jayden Daniels Maybe a little bit of Lamar Jackson
- 13:01quarterback run game involved and moving the pocket a little bit. But he's been
- 13:05a big riser and I think if I had a hot take right now,
- 13:09I think that Jade Daniels might be the third quarterback off the board in wildly
- 13:13twenty four. And I wouldn't be shocked, man, because he's gonna run
- 13:16well, he's gonna interview really well. He's got a lot of talent.
- 13:18If he can show up at the Senior Bowl or the Combine or whatever he
- 13:22choose to do pre draft wise, at like two ten, two fifteen,
- 13:26I think a team's gonna look at him and say like, yeah, we
- 13:28can work with that guy. So that's my hot take, I guess.
- 13:31I also like Bo Nicks a little bit from Oregon. He used to be
- 13:33a meme and kind of you made fun of him a lot when he was
- 13:35at Auburn. Good reason, but quite Jeff, I don't know how this
- 13:39happened, but bo Nicks became a joke from He turned from a joke at
- 13:43Auburn into one of the safer quarterback prospects in two years. Don't know how
- 13:48happens, but it happens like he just doesn't make a lot of mistakes and
- 13:52he's still a talented kid. So Jade and Daniels Carson Becks is my risers
- 13:56in this class, and I think that bo Nicks is a very safe prospect
- 14:00as a top five quarterback in twenty twenty four. Very good. I love
- 14:03where you're going, especially with the hot takes there for sure, and you
- 14:07know, as we're moving along here, I really want to get into some
- 14:11you know, offensive line talent, like in the trenches, because there's a
- 14:15ton of NFL teams that need to look at drafting in the trenches, especially
- 14:18in the offensive line. You know, we've seen that there are teams in
- 14:20the NFL that really do it right, you know, one being you know,
- 14:24the Philadelphia Eagles. You know, who we follow here at the PSD
- 14:28podcast show. You know, we know that Jordan Morgan out of Arizona is
- 14:31likely going to be probably a first round prospect. Joe alt out of Notre
- 14:35Dame, who you follow closely, is probably going to be a first round
- 14:39talent. Teams like the Giants, the Patriots, they are desperately going to
- 14:43need to draft some offensive lineman I think in twenty twenty four who could be
- 14:50a talent on that O line for years to come. So I'm wondering,
- 14:54like, which offensive lineman do you really like, you know, coming out
- 14:56of this prospect class and in of the twenty twenty four draft, and why,
- 15:03well, it's a great year to need offensive lineman. And to your
- 15:05point, there's a lot of bad offensive lines in the NFL, right,
- 15:09yeah, so there is a massive need there. I mean, as a
- 15:13as a guy that covers the Philadelphia Eagles, right, you should feel very
- 15:16fortunate because that offensive line is fantastic. You know, even when you have
- 15:20a good guard, you know, go down, you're still able to maintain
- 15:22and still be a really good offensive team. So but most teams are not
- 15:26fortunate in that. And you mentioned a couple of the guys that I think
- 15:28are really stellar players in this class. I mean we're talking about Penn State
- 15:33to begin. Olu Fashanu and Joe All I think are and Joe of from
- 15:37the name, are going to kind of they're going to duke it out to
- 15:39be the first offensive lineman off the board. I think it's really what you
- 15:41prefer. I mean, Joe Joe Wall is just six eight three twenty Father
- 15:48John All is in the Kansasye Chiefs Ring of Honor as a former offensive lineman.
- 15:52Joe Walt was a former high school tight end that has just gained a
- 15:56ton of weights. So he's going to check a lot of boxes from the
- 15:58height, length, speed aspect of everything. You know, he's gonna check
- 16:03every box from a talent perspective. And he's got the NFL blood lines,
- 16:06which is going to help him a time. Yeah. Oldufashano's freaking nature.
- 16:08Man. I remember talking to someone even before he was a full time star,
- 16:12before last year, and they were telling me that he at three hundred
- 16:15and whatever pounds he was at that point, he has a six pack,
- 16:18and I'm just like, oh, okay, well that's that makes me feel
- 16:22terrible about myself. Thank you so much for doing this. But so those
- 16:25guys are the freak shows. Man. He reminds me a lot of Dubrickashaw
- 16:27Ferguson, who was a fantastic New York Jets offensive lineman. More of a
- 16:30pass blocker than he is a run blocker. He still struggles a little bit
- 16:33in the run game, but as a pass blocker, the core strength and
- 16:37the foot quickness he has is fantastic. So I think that's a one two
- 16:41combination. I think after that there is a really nice second tier of offensive
- 16:45lineman. I thought a Marius Men's from Georgia was gonna be a guy that
- 16:48was going to be a big in this class. He got injured to start
- 16:52the year, so he's just now coming back from an injury, so I
- 16:55don't know if he's necessarily going to declare for twenty twenty four. But that
- 16:57kid another one, Jeff, It's like six seven, three point thirty.
- 17:02No body fat on him. It's just like, we're incredible guys, man,
- 17:06They're like made on different planets. They're aliens. Like I'm looking at
- 17:10Olda Forshan who looking at Marius Smims, I'm looking at Joel. I'm just
- 17:12like This is not what offensive line and used to look like. I don't
- 17:15understand where I came from, but he's a guy, a guy that I
- 17:18think is gonna get drafted high. It's gonna be if he would enters twenty
- 17:22twenty four, though it's gonna be more about betting on traits because he just
- 17:25hasn't played a ton this year obviously as a juniors, which is why I
- 17:29kind of he probably will go back to school, but that'll be a conversation
- 17:32we'll have in a couple of months. Obviously, the biggest rise of in
- 17:34the class the guy that I absolutely love Talise fu Waga, who I've been
- 17:38mentioning a lot on Twitter of the last few weeks. Offensive tackle, right
- 17:42tackle out of Oregon State, six' six, three hundred and thirty pounds.
- 17:48This kid is an absolute behemoth. I mean he looks a little bit
- 17:52body type to look what Pennay Soul was coming out of Oregon. A little
- 17:55bit of a different football player, but similar body types. This kid moves
- 18:00incredibly well. You get a false assumption about him. You see him sixty
- 18:03six, three thirty, You're like, that dude is just gonna maul people
- 18:06in the run. Game, which he does. But then the first player
- 18:07I remember popping on in twenty twenty two, they were running some time at
- 18:11outside zone or some sweep and he was moving laterally at three hundred and thirty
- 18:17pounds as well as a lot of tight ends. Do I mean like he
- 18:19was just moving incredibly well. So he's got the length, he's got the
- 18:23size, and he's got the really good foot quickness, and he's improved his
- 18:26hand usage tremendously from twenty twenty two to twenty twenty three. So big rise
- 18:32from the class, A guy that I think could be a potential top twenty
- 18:33pick when all's said and done. To lease Fuaga out of Oregon State,
- 18:37I think has been a big riser this year. All right, I like
- 18:40it for sure, And I wanted to get your take Ryan on how we
- 18:45should be really looking at running back prospects kind of from here on out,
- 18:48because I mean, as we know, the position has changed so much over
- 18:52the years, and running backs aren't as quote important as they once used to
- 18:57be. And again I want to get your thoughts on where the running back
- 19:00position has been trending due to the changing nature of what is required of them
- 19:07now in the NFL, and if there are certain guys that may you know,
- 19:11may maybe either take us back in time with regard to their skill set,
- 19:15or is this just something we're gonna continue seeing in the future, that
- 19:19the fact that running backs are quote just not as important. And you're there
- 19:22kind of a dime a dozen here, what are your thoughts. I think
- 19:26there's a potential that the game can be cyclical, right is in like it
- 19:30was a big heavy run scheme, now it's a bit passing league. Could
- 19:34it go back to the run at some point as teams just kind of you
- 19:37know, jockey back and forth and try to you know, evolve. Yeah,
- 19:41unquote possible. I mean like that could definitely happen. I mean I
- 19:45feel like it's kind of like how every team was a four to three team
- 19:48right defensively, and then they changed to a three to four in like the
- 19:51nineties to two thousands, and now everybody's back to a four to three base
- 19:55with a four to two five adjustment. Like if I do think there's a
- 19:57cyclical nature to the game of football, but for the time being, over
- 20:02the foreseeable future, you know, not as far ahead. I think that
- 20:06the running back position is going to continue to be devalued, Yeah, but
- 20:08devalued from a second contract perspective, right breaking the bank on a second deal.
- 20:15I still believe that a lot of NFL teams are more than okay with
- 20:21drafting a running back pretty early, right first round, even you get the
- 20:25fifth year option, you have five years of control, not even counting you
- 20:27know, if you franchise, tag a guy and do all that type of
- 20:30stuff and even top fifty to up sixty four. Like, I still think
- 20:34that running backs are valued as far as drafting them because I still think that
- 20:38you understand that they are a valuable member of your offense outside of a center
- 20:42and a quarterback. They touch the football more than any other offensive player on
- 20:47the field, so it's still valuable. I think just the question now in
- 20:51understandable one is economics. From a business perspective, Paying a position that has
- 20:56a shorter shelf life than every other one on your roster is probably not great
- 21:00business, right, And I think that's why we're seeing when running backs get
- 21:04the second contracts, teams not as willing to now break the bank and give
- 21:08a guy massive money outside of like the Christian mccaffreyes of the world, for
- 21:12instance, right, So I think for me short term vision of the future,
- 21:18Jeff, I think that teams are still gonna be okay with drafting running
- 21:21backs and drafting relatively early when there are studs in the class. But in
- 21:25the second contract, I think there's still gonna be a lot of hesitancy because
- 21:27we just have seen the running back position not have the long shelf life.
- 21:30And if you want a perfect vision of that, the twenty twenty four NFL
- 21:36draft running back group is perfect because it is a not great class at the
- 21:41top. It's a complementary type of class. You know, you have Trey
- 21:45Benson from Florida State, you Raheem Rocket Sanders from Arkansas, you have Blake
- 21:48korhum up there at Michigan. Like, they're all good running backs, but
- 21:52none of them are guys that I would say are top twenty five players in
- 21:56the twenty twenty four NFL drafts. So they're gonna be drafted more the top
- 22:00fifty range, you know, maybe late first second round type of conversation.
- 22:03So I think that's where we're going, is that the devaluation is not necessarily
- 22:07from a draft perspective. It's more from a business perspective, right, like
- 22:11the second. That's where you break the bank, and I just don't think
- 22:14you want to break it with a running back too often. Absolutely, we're
- 22:15definitely seeing changes and continual changes with regard to the NFL from a unit perspective.
- 22:22Running back certainly is that. So let's talk about the other side of
- 22:26the ball. Let's talk about defense, and specifically with regard to defensive edge
- 22:32rushers we may see coming out of this draft, or I should say,
- 22:37going into the draft. You know Dallas Turner, he's one guy, Jared.
- 22:41Do you say his last name versay versus versay verse? Okay, yeah,
- 22:45I screw up names constantly on this podcast. So but in terms of
- 22:49defensive edge rushers, you know now more than ever you know, and again
- 22:53I'll go back to certain NFL teams. You can see how important they are.
- 22:57Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns. You know how they positioned themselves defensively.
- 23:02The edge rushers and pass rushing is so incredibly critical of course in today's NFL.
- 23:08So I'm wondering which edge defenders and pass rushers have you really been keeping
- 23:14your eyes on, Ryan in this college football season, who may really be
- 23:18productive right out of the Gate, you know after the twenty twenty four draft,
- 23:23Well you just mentioned two of them. I mean, Jared Vers was
- 23:26a big surprise to not enter the twenty twenty three NFL Draft and obviously opts
- 23:30to return to Florida State for another year. And the box score hasn't been
- 23:33great this year, but as far as being as productive as he was last
- 23:37year, but if you watch the film, he's still been incredibly disruptive.
- 23:40I mean, this kid was a former Albany player, played up there.
- 23:44It was weird, man. He was a zero star recruits, went to
- 23:48Albany, barely played defense in high school, and then all of a sudden,
- 23:51he is now the ACC preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Like he's
- 23:55made a massive rise incredibly well as well. Yeah, physical dude, like
- 24:00six two hundred and fifty plus pounds, He is a freak show from an
- 24:03explosiveness perspective. Dallas Turner is the complete opposite as far as he's a pure
- 24:08stand up rusher at two hundred and forty five pounds. With that kid,
- 24:11he's about as gifted of an athlete as you'll ever see from the edge position.
- 24:15Honestly, he's a little bit comparable athletically to who the Eagles draft last
- 24:18year, Nolan Smith in the first round, just from a athleticism movement perspective,
- 24:23like I wouldn't be shocked if he runs four to four flat at two
- 24:26hundred and forty five pounds, Like he's that type of freaky athlete, and
- 24:30he's taking a massive step forward. I didn't love his nuance and his technique
- 24:34in the twenty twenty two season. Taking a big step forward from a technical
- 24:37perspective, so he's really taking a nice step. Braylan Trice from Washington's been
- 24:41a guy that I've loved for some time now. He's what I think people
- 24:47wanted Derek Barnett to be coming out of Tennessee a little bit. You know,
- 24:51Derek Barnett did not quite find his role in the NFL, and I
- 24:55know he's still a backup in the NFL, and there's nothing wrong with that,
- 24:56but as the fourteenth overall pick, they could safe to say that he's
- 25:00underachieved quite a bit in the NFL. But I think that the great parts
- 25:07of what you thought Derek Burnett could be is what Briylan tries to springs the
- 25:08table. He's sixty three two hundred and seventy pounds, thickly built frame,
- 25:12really strong hands, really good pass rush plan run defender. I just he
- 25:17leads college footballs in at college football in quarterback hurries and pressures this year,
- 25:22even though he's again this, if you look at just at the box score,
- 25:26it's not going to jump off at you, But then you watch the
- 25:27game, you're just like this dude's harassing quarterbacks constantly, and pressures matter so
- 25:33much in the NFL. So he's a big one, the biggest question mark,
- 25:37and the I think the most volatile prospect maybe in the twenty twenty four
- 25:40NFL Draft is going to end up being Leatu Latu, who is a defensive
- 25:45end out of UCLA. He was up at the University of Washington, former
- 25:48four star recruit, high recruit, he had to medically retire because of a
- 25:52broken neck, and then two years later he just shows up randomly at UCLA
- 25:59and now he's the leading socker and tackle for lost guy in college football.
- 26:03Six' four sixty five, two hundred and sixty five pounds. This kid
- 26:07is a high first round talents as a football player, a lot very similar
- 26:11to Jalen Phillips that came out of Miami a couple of years ago at the
- 26:15Miami Dolphins drift in the first round. Yeah, but the question mark is
- 26:19what are that medicals going to look like? Man, a guy that literally
- 26:22had to medically retire a couple of years ago. I mean, what is
- 26:25the net going to look like? What are the medicals going to come back?
- 26:27How comfortable our team's taking a kid that has that medical background in the
- 26:32first round. He could either be a top fifteen pick or it could be
- 26:37a third round pick because the medicals are an absolute disaster, Like, we
- 26:40have no idea exactly which one we're gonna get yet. But talent wise,
- 26:42he's up there with the verses with the Dallas Turners, with the Braidlan Trices
- 26:47of the world as far as a talent perspective. Great discussion here, Absolutely
- 26:51love it again. Folks are talking to Ryan Roberts from Irishbreakdown dot com RPM
- 26:56data as well. Find him on Twitter at Rise and Draft is a great,
- 27:00great follow when it comes to college football prospects, college football in general.
- 27:04And as we're closing things up here, I wanted to really talk about,
- 27:10you know, the cornerback position in the NFL and prospects that we're looking
- 27:15at right now. You know already on the board. You know who we're
- 27:18thinking about, because, as we know, cornerbacks such a difficult position to
- 27:23really come out strong in terms of the NFL and productivity their first year.
- 27:29I mean, Devin Witherspoon, he's been having a pretty good rookie season so
- 27:32far in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. But you know, Christian Gonzales
- 27:34with the Patriots, he's now on ir having some injury issues there, not
- 27:38necessarily the greatest looking cornerback is in his first season, and some other rookie
- 27:44cornerbacks too. You know, they're not having the best starts in the NFL.
- 27:48Per what I just said, you know, it's a difficult position to
- 27:49transition to in the pros. How do you see this incoming twenty twenty four
- 27:55cornerback class and are there any standouts in your ryan that we should be keeping
- 28:00our eyes on as the college football regular season concludes here shortly. I think
- 28:06it's a really good class in twenty twenty four as far as cornerbacks. I
- 28:07mean, you are correct in the fact that you are asked to do so
- 28:12much as a cornerback in the NFL that you I mean, because you could
- 28:17hide a guy on an island in college and not ask him to ever tackle
- 28:19or play in the screen game, and that's okay, it doesn't matter.
- 28:22Right in the NFL, you're gonna find that kid quickly, and obviously you're
- 28:26going against some of the best athletes in the world that wide receiver each and
- 28:29every play. And honestly, the biggest thing that with the cornerback evaluation is
- 28:33trying to get to know the cornerbacks a lot, because it is a position
- 28:37where you're gonna give up some plays, you're gonna give up some touchdowns from
- 28:40time to time. You have to have a short memory, you really do,
- 28:42and the best ones have that. You know. Everybody acts like Deon
- 28:47Sanders never gave up a completion in his life. But that's just not true,
- 28:49right, I Mean, he gave up catches, he gave up touchdowns.
- 28:52It's just what did he do the next play? Next play is the
- 28:56best play? And I think this cornerback class in twenty twenty four, there's
- 28:59a lot of side in this class. Kole Aid McKinstry out of Alabama's just
- 29:03your he's your prototype kid, six' one pretty long arms, athletic.
- 29:07The kid can run for days. Technical work that needs to get done,
- 29:11but he is a really good athlete and he has the look. My favorite
- 29:15corner in the class is a Penn State guy, Kayln King. I think
- 29:18that he had a little bit of a rough game against Marvin Harrison junior,
- 29:21but otherwise the last two years of film have been fantastic. Man. I
- 29:25mean that kid is a scrappy, slightly undersized corner that I think could play
- 29:29inside and out. Kind of has a Jyi Alexander feel to his game for
- 29:33me, I mean just a really tenacious, explosive cornerback. Good comp yeah
- 29:37yeah. Cooper Degene out of Iowa is kind of a white corner which is
- 29:41kind of funny, but six two hundred and five pounds physical dude like can
- 29:45just play corner, could play safety, could play He has started at nickel
- 29:49at Iowa, has been a really good player there, so he's gonna be
- 29:52a little bit more of a scheme specific football player, but a really really
- 29:56good football player over over overall. And my one other guy that I think
- 30:00is gonna be the biggest riser in the cornerback class and has already seen the
- 30:03rise because I think guys like Dame Brugler and Kimmel Kiper and those guys are
- 30:07starting to rank them this high. But Nate Wiggins out of Clemson is a
- 30:11little bit of a lighter corner at six foot two, one hundred and eighty
- 30:15pounds. But that kid's movement skills are outrageous. Man, Like, he
- 30:18can turn and run with the best of them. He's got legit four to
- 30:22three something speed. But then you see him change direction at six foot two,
- 30:26which is kind of different, like you don't typically see that. But
- 30:30so he's got the movement skills to be a fantastic player. So I think,
- 30:33again, if you need a really good corner in the NFL right now,
- 30:36I think the twenty twenty four draft is going to give you a great
- 30:38one, you know, pretty early on your in your career. So I
- 30:41don't think there's necessarily a Devin Witherspoon in this class, a guy that's gonna
- 30:45go top five in the draft. But there are several first round corners in
- 30:48this class, probably even more than there were last year. I think it's
- 30:51a deeper class than twenty twenty three. It's gonna be fun to continue watching
- 30:53these prospects for sure. And again, folks catch Ryan on the Twitter at
- 30:59rise in Draft. He is a great great follow Irish Breakdown dot com PRM
- 31:03data as well. Ryan Buddy, thanks so much for jumping on our table
- 31:07talk interview show this week. Man. I'd love to talk to you more
- 31:10about more prospects in the future as we get, you know, closer to
- 31:14the combine, you know, maybe Bowl season. Let's do it, man,
- 31:17let's let's get together again and talk. It was fun, absolutely,
- 31:19Jeff, anytime, brother, I appreciate you. It's that time of year
- 31:23to really start hunkering down if you're a college football fan an NFL fan,
- 31:26to really start understanding who these prospects are, what teams may be looking at
- 31:32certain prospects to just bolster their roster for the coming years and in the future.
- 31:37It's gonna be a really great exercise over these next few months here as
- 31:41we really learn about a lot more of these prospects. I mean, Ryan
- 31:45just gave me a lot of great information with certain players that I wasn't,
- 31:49you know, one hundred percent aware of in terms of whether it's athleticism and
- 31:55just how they're moving on the field. So it's gonna be really fun to
- 31:57watch, watch film on some of these prospects, learn more about them.
- 32:01Like I said, in the future, just diving into scouting reports. It's
- 32:05gonna be fun. So I'm gonna do it for us here on table Talk
- 32:08this week. We got a lot of great content coming to you this week
- 32:12at the PSD podcast show and on our platform here. Stay tuned for that.
