- Herbie: Hello everybody. Welcome to the pork roll egg and cheese podcast. I'm herby. Shamus: And my name is Seamus. Herbie: We're going to be talking about a concept called PASS. Shamus: And for those of you who don't understand what that means if you ever seen the movie young guns Yeah, the first one at the end where they said, you know when William Bonney was shot aka Billy the kid somebody snuck into the graveyard that night and chiseled pals across his Is that the tab or is a grave stone? Yeah, so Herbie: Basically, that concept just comes from just like, you know, just... Shamus: I was going to say, what's your concept of a pal? See, I have a different word for it. I'll wait until you go ahead and describe it. I don't want to cut you off. Herbie: No, for me it's like having a guy that's not my brother become a brother. You know what mean? There's an innate connection there of family and brotherhood. Even if you don't have the same likes or anything, it's almost like you're related by blood and soul. know what I mean? I don't have biological brothers, but I do have a bunch of brothers that... I'm very grateful to have. it's like, how that concept came in. So like my one buddy, Steve, is also like a brother. He was into like all a lot of the movies like me. like when we grew up. like basic movies were like that, that, relied on brotherhood, but of course, not just young guns, but it was also like, ⁓ red Dawn and like stand by me. So that was basically like our, our brotherhood formula that we had was like me, Steve, TJ, who's no longer with us. May you rest in the halls about how the TJ I love and miss you, bro. And Sean. So, you know, TJ was like the husky one. Steve was the tall one. Sean was like the pretty boy. Now it was like the little crazy kid. So that was like a nice little unit that kind of matched like most of those movies that we grew up with. like that, just that concept after we lost TJ, ⁓ that affected ⁓ us a great deal because, he was just like, TJ was, you know, still is our brother. So they, ⁓ you he was just like that person that, you just stay in your house. You know, mom would cook for him. There was times I'd be like, you know, at my girlfriend's house for the weekend and he would just stay at the house, you kind of like when we do like a Terry stuff. Even if Bobby leaves, we stay with the family because, know, they just take us in. So that's pretty much like that family type of deal. And, you know, my buddy Steve, who's like my brother, you know, is my brother, I should say, ⁓ I named his sons have been at his wedding. It's just like that. that connection where you're involved in everyone's life and that like just go to boot where in case there's you know the shit hits the fan like that that's the one of those dudes that just would be right there you know what mean so that's basically what the PALS concept means for me it's just you know self-sacrifice and just innate brotherhood that doesn't die Shamus: Absolutely. Pals is good way because of the young guns thing. I love throughout the whole movie, you always, know, with the we're going to send the Indian out to satisfy the crowd. But obviously you don't know the meaning of the word pals. That's right. I'll put this hat on and turn around chief. Yeah. It's either pals to me or, you know, stand up guys. Yeah. Guys that, like you said, that you know, they've always got your six. Yeah. somebody you never have to worry about. Like if you need something, you'd call them and they'll be there in a second. And guys, you can have like not only like to call them, but just have great times with, grow old with, ⁓ you know, joke about and, you know, like you said, help raise their kids and, you know, you know, be the cool uncle when you go over there and it's like, ⁓ you know, that kind of thing. ⁓ man. My buddy, Chris, he moved to, well, Herbie: all the cool toys for the kids. it's awesome. Shamus: him and his, they were never married, but they got separated. But when they lived in Delanco, he had two girls. And when I walked in, he used to hate it. was just like, somebody said the magic word in Pee-wee's Playhouse. And was like, And it was just like, Like they were just, especially on Christmas Day, my mom bought them stuff. I bought them stuff. Like I would walk in the door and he was just like, dude. Herbie: Michael Sheamus is here. Shamus: We just finally got them down from like opening the stuff up under the tree and I was just like yeah Well, guess where they're going. Yeah, right back up buddy number two So yeah, I did enjoy that part of it Yeah, it's I've had a couple of really good Herbie: baby Shamus: I would say, everybody, my parents always said, and a lot of people, you'll hear this, if you make one real good friend in life, you've done something. And I used to tell my mom, not so much my dad, because my dad loved Bobby, and he loved Mike, so I mean, he would always tell me like, ⁓ because my dad had one really good friend in life, and that was this guy named Pete, he's called Pete the Pirate. But I was fortunate enough to make... a lot of really good friends, but there's about three, maybe four guys I would consider if the shit went down. ⁓ yeah. They were there. ⁓ And growing up, like when I lived in Philadelphia, I don't remember, like I remember, you know, social, I was always that kid. I loved to socialize. Love that. Yeah. You know, talk to people. I was never the shy kid in the corner and stuff. And like every once in a while I'd do something to get a laugh. which used to drive the nuns nuts. And that's why my one ear is bigger than the other, because they would just grab me like everybody here and just like turn the principal's office and hit you with that ruler or some shit. Yeah. But when I moved to Riverside, ⁓ first really good friend I had was Bobby. ⁓ The Bobby. Yeah. We'll have him on eventually. ⁓ Yeah. It was before he was a man. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ Herbie: He mean, he mean. Shamus: He was always a hyper kid, but my dad used to call him because Bobby Oh my god, my dad was like, does this parents feed him because he was as skinny as this goddamn mic stands like my dad used to call him sticks. Oh really? Bobby's like, I mean, because I played the drums. My dad's like, no, because you look like a goddamn branch wearing clothes. Yeah. Herbie: ⁓ you Shamus: So Bobby was like the first one and of course, you know, you know, met Big Bob Terry and all that stuff. I mean, instantly it was just he wasn't even like he was a pal, but it was it was family. And then after him, it was Mike Mike and Greg. was a guy named Greg we hung out with, If you saw one of us, the other two were somewhere around. ⁓ yeah. That's just how it was. And then Greg kind of fell off a little bit because me and Mike joined the army together. And then we were. I mean. Herbie: That came with a whole bunch of stuff, man. Shamus: I always put up on Facebook, because he passed away too. I always put up on Facebook, know, Riggs Myrtle, Goose Maverick, ⁓ Brascus McKnight. Because I mean, that's how close we were. We were. ⁓ my God, it was ridiculous. Herbie: That's the one thing I love about like the type of brotherhood that would that would that we have with with our friends and you included is that even if you don't have like a Lot of time with each other anymore, especially growing up and stuff Time does not fucking change man. There's no whole city. mean, you can't see people You know for like maybe even like a couple years like my buddy Steve he moved down to Tennessee so we still keep in contact, but You know when I see him it's like time is not changed whatsoever. Still doing dumb shit to each other, beating the shit out of each other and stuff. I remember he actually made a makeshift blow gun and he showed up to the house and we used to beat the shit out of each other anyway. So this is like, you know, back in the day when I was like in my full swing of my ninja training with swords and ninja stars and just like, just grappling hook and then all that stuff. So it was a summer day. He knocks on the door and of course I go downstairs and of course, know during the summer year Everyone's wearing shorts and this is like back in the 80s. So of course, you know, like the guy's shorts were actually kind of like like those short ⁓ yeah, so I'm sitting there and he ⁓ yeah, I guess yeah So he's and he's tall as shit too, so like he comes in and I'm like four foot nothing So we stand in the front of the door So we always have like this thing if we had this like evil look on our face We're about to do something stupid to each other Shamus: in the army and call them ranger panties. Herbie: So of course I'm like, ⁓ boy, here it comes. Cause he's standing there, open up the door all slow and he's just standing with this goofy smile on his face. And I'm looking at him and I'm waiting for him to like do something to either like throw a punch or like do some shit. Cause we used to shoot each other with like fireworks and all that stuff. And he just lifts up this little like, like a, like the pen case, you know, like the, ⁓ the tube from the pen. ⁓ He just lifts it up real slow and I'm like, what fuck is he doing? It's like, he's going to try to stab me with this. And he just goes, it made a blow gun. And shot this needle in my leg, which I felt like Ace Ventura. I'm just looking down. see this dart sticking out of my leg. I'm like, So he made this like blowgun because I had a blowgun. got it. And we used to play with that and stuff. And he made this one and he used to take like the little like a regular needle and he actually take was like whatever that. plastic divvy divot at the end of a shoelaces. know, the plate he would cut a little bit off of that and he would thread that through there. So we'd make a dart and then he just got emptied out of, you know, the pen. Oh yeah. And then like, and the funny thing is too, cause like as soon as I pulled it out, I was like, I'm downstairs. I pulled the dart out and I'm running up for my blow gun, which is real bloating cause I'm getting ready to shoot his ass. So I'm running up there and he's chasing after me. Shamus: G. Herbie: So as soon as I'm trying to run up the stairs to get to my blowgun, I'm in my room, he shoots me in the back of the leg, and this little ass dart just made my leg just cramp the hell up, and I was like, argh! And I went down, so we're just like literally just stabbing each other and shooting each other with darts. And you know, it's just, it's not brotherhood unless you're beating the shit out of each other. Oh, there's just like, there was a lot of times we would just like literally beat the shit out of each other, it was awesome. Shamus: Absolutely. When I worked at the state, and first, because it kind of, like I said, the first 10 years there was great, but then the suits came in and took over and they thought they knew it. But anyway, there was, like, you'd be walking out the door, and all of a sudden, like, the secretary would be like, hey, can you hold on a second? And I'm like, yeah, sure, what's up? And she was like, yeah, you know, so-and-so wants to talk to you, whether it's a lieutenant or a captain or something like that. So I'm like, all right. So like I turn around and I'm just like looking out the windows and like all of a sudden you just feel this, you just hear a whap and you just feel this pain as you're like, like somebody just punched me in my kidneys and shit. And I turn around and like it's some lieutenant or captain was like, and that for parking in my spot yesterday jerk off. Herbie: What? Shamus: I mean there was just times like we would just like as you're walking by somebody would just bang and just punch like in a Hollywood Herbie: Yeah, ⁓ yeah, yeah, that was definitely like a lot of part of the initiation like Charlie horses were freaking the titty twisters Shamus: is to be out there locker half dressed and like looking and stuff and as we walk by we just like ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ I got bad been tied up on my buddy Steve I'm like, yeah like this big thick gauge rope and he tied me up like and I was like trying to escape like Houdini There's tons I shot him with like Roman candles ⁓ When we got older there was a one time we went to actually not far from here we went to one of the bars and We were sitting there and he just got out of the army himself and Sitting there and I'm going to the Mac machine now back in the day like, know the to get money and stuff. And I was he was standing behind me and we were drinking for a little bit. And what he did is he grabbed my head and just smashed it into the Mac machine. And it had because, know, like the debit cards and all that stuff, they have like the on the the buttons, there's like that little Braille, the little Braille stuff on there. I had Braille on my cheek. I was like, oh, what the fuck? He's like, haha, was always like you had to test your reflexes with your best friends It was like, you know, it good ninja training or Jedi training So that same night we went to blockbuster and we're gonna go rent a movie because we're like bringing back old times like what we used to do in high school and stuff so we went to blockbuster and he's taller than me and he had this denim jacket on and He was looking towards like the the wall where all the movies are And he pointed, was like, yo, look at the movement. I'm standing behind him. But what he did was when he would point it to the thing, his chest was wide open. And the people, you know, when you go into blockbusters, they're like, it was like within three seconds or something like that. You know, they always like, ⁓ welcome to blockbusters. And when I did, just like, Whoa, just laid into his chest and just broke him down. He's like, you dickhead. It was always like, you got to curse each other out. No moms. You can't talk smack about moms, but you can say the raunchiest, most disgusting stuff to each other and beat the shit out of each other. And the best thing too, like actually what you did before is like if your friend's going through a rough time, maybe almost like a self-destructive time or anything like that. They're there to fucking tell you the truth. Yankee up and just say, look, man, the shit ain't the fucking way. Shamus: Oh, no doubt. Yeah, no doubt. I've had. Mikey picked me up off of I. I almost drank myself to death when I first got out of the military, man, I was. don't like looking back on it now, I was just like, man, what a fucking retard. But. Like I, I thought as soon as I got out, I was like, I'm going get a job. This is what's is done. I'll be a cop and blah, blah, blah. And it just wasn't happening right away. And I had like and. I was just. Herbie: Always be there, man. Shamus: fucking mess. there was other things going on. I just don't want to divulge. But I never did drugs. And to this day, I still haven't. ⁓ mean, I tried weed once or twice, but I mean, never anything else. I just drank. And, you know, I did this day on the. They were like, dude, we got to do something with this dude. And he picked me up and took me outside and pretty much fucked me up. Yeah. And he's just like, ⁓ What are you doing, dude? You're throwing it all away, And gaming that pep talk, need it. Herbie: That's where it is. And I'm sure listeners, I'm sure everyone has that one friend. If you don't, I hope you do. But, you know, for us, I'm blessed to have a lot of guys who are like my brothers, man. And another reason why I love doing this podcast, because you are, you're like a brother to me too, man. Like ⁓ the fact that, like, you before we never really get, we would see each other, but not like consistently all the time. And that's one of the biggest perks about doing this podcast with you, man, is I get to see you more often, man. It's awesome. Shamus: Absolutely. And I returned the favor years later. He was having problems with PTSD And kind of got him through a couple things. ⁓ ended up, it's like I said, he ended up passing away. ⁓ Not because of any of that, but it was just, we were always just there for each other. ⁓ And I always passed, that's thing I've always done. ⁓ I did it with Bobby. ⁓ I was just like, dude, what are you, and smacked him up a little bit. Yeah. ⁓ Yeah, anybody I thought who needed it and it was coming from a place from love. Yeah. It wasn't like, I'm just going to beat your ass and beat your ass. It was just like, man. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, because women have that type of friend. Shamus: Your are upset, your family's worried, your kids are upset, what the fuck are you doing? ⁓ And just give to them. Because like I said before in one of the other podcasts, hey man, you can sit here and yell at me until I'm blue in the face, I'm still gonna do these drugs. ⁓ But if I you're gonna fuck me up, ⁓ it must be serious. And I need to stop this shit. Because he's that emotionally upset, he's gonna whoop my ass. So, because I know my parents can't do it. And I my wife or my girlfriend can't do it. ⁓ Herbie: When you got your brothers coming to kick your ass, you know, it's, it's, yeah. Shamus: And sometimes they go after you're done, like, fuck you, I don't care, I'm gonna keep doing it. But then eventually, if they live through it, they come back and they go, hey man, you were right. Thanks for being there. Herbie: And they're like the best and the most things like you got damn right motherfucker. I'm gonna let you die. You know what mean? This is true man. It's just so like listeners like wherever you are if you're driving home or if you're just like, um, you know, you had a shitty day. Maybe had a shitty month or whatever. Just, you know, focus on like the friends are always there for you, man. Like how much you love them, how much they love you, how much of an impact that they they make. Shamus: Motherfucker you still owe me money. Yeah Herbie: It's just a wonderful thing to have, man, to have that type of brotherhood. And ladies, I'm referring to you too. I'm sure you have that... Yeah, because you're like, look, let's go, bitch! What's going on with your life? Get your shit together, bitch! You know? It's like that sisterhood and brotherhood, man. It's just like that innate... I don't know. It's hard to describe, because it's like... Shamus: That's a whole different animal. Herbie: You go through life running into all these people and then it's almost like you get to choose your family. it's just like, it's not even like really choosing. It just happens naturally. Like almost like putting a puzzle together. You know what mean? And it just makes one big, beautiful picture when you have all these people that are in your life and you're just, you you're happy, man. Shamus: Yeah, yeah, I can honestly say, and a lot of the stuff that I did as a kid, like meeting Bobby. Bobby's the reason why, you know, when you meet Bobby, you meet Big Bob, and then you meet like that, and then you go down to his basement. They lived in like half a row home, or half a double, and they had like this hole in the wall in their basement that led to like a secret, I don't know if it was like a secret room, but it was kind of like under their porch. And like they had this music room. where it was like one or two amps, a keyboard, a guitar, and then Bobby's drum set. I was like, what the fuck is this? I mean, like when I lived in Philadelphia, we had like a mariachi band that lived down the street and they would play like all the pop parties and stuff. But I never really. like, I never saw them practice. I see musicians show up when you actually see a practice spot for that. And I was like, yeah. Herbie: Like a speakeasy. It's different. What's going on here, It is different when you see people practice, because normally when you see the gig, the gig's already run smooth. Shamus: Then you see a kid your age. Yeah, I think he's a little bit younger to me. I think he's a year young, but like he got behind his drums and his dad started playing and they were sounded good. They just like, I know my dad can't play an instrument, but fuck that. I'm going to play something. So that Christmas I got drums. I have a small set when I was in Philadelphia, but I mean, we live in a row home. So there's not. But like I got a real drum set and started playing drums. So Bobby did that for me when I first met Mike, Bobby moved to Southampton. at the end of our freshman year. And Mike was kind of hanging out with us, but Mike really became my best friend when Bobby moved away. ⁓ And that dude was just, I don't give a shit about school. I don't give anything. just want beer, chicks, come up going to the Army and I'm going to kill people. It's like, all right, dude, I'm going to be ranger. I'm going to do this and that and that. And I was just kind of like, yeah. And then at the time, my father was just like, ⁓ yeah, every night male since whatever has been in your you're going in your head, you're to be a cop and down the line. So me and Mike joined the army together. He went infantry, dumb ass, but ⁓ yeah, so Mike kinda helped steer me in that direction. And then when I got out in the military, I met so many great people. Those guys, to me there's a difference between stand-up dudes and brothers. And those guys are, like those guys I love. Like you said, ⁓ I could go, like we're not gonna do a military reunion this year. We're gonna probably do one next year and there's some people that haven't been to them in like the last three years So I haven't seen like four or five years, but when you get in the same room with them like next year and like oh, it's like Nothing. Yeah, like time has not passed like everything's still the same great people man It's like I said, I'm so thankful for having them and there's um, there's a couple I thought there would be more after I retired that kept in touch. Yeah Herbie: No Shamus: I still love all those guys, but you know people are busy and with that job, they're so undermanned They're probably working all the time. Some of them do reach out and say they listen, but I met a lot of great people with the state ⁓ A lot of badges Not so much the suits, but there were a couple suits. Yeah I've been blessed. But like I said when it comes to pals, yeah, it was probably just Bobby ⁓ I'll throw Greg in because Greg was always he always had my back ⁓ Herbie: squad man the main squad Shamus: Now there's and I don't want anybody getting pissed off when they listen to this. There's guys in Delanco that, you know, like Jared, that guy we had here, Robbie, my buddy Claude, my buddy Chris Clark, you know, all those guys and even somebody, the other guy like Steve who came in here and stuff like that. Really good friends. I love those guys to death. I mean, yeah, the stand up guy like the guys that I guess have Bobby Mike and. Herbie: There's always a good smile. Shamus: And like I said, you're right there too, because anytime I've ever needed anything from you, you're like, hey man, you want to do a podcast? Fuck right. want to do this? Let's do this. Or hey, Herbie, we got to set this tent up for this pig run. Yep. Herbie: So. Shamus: So yeah, you're kinda, that's my starting five right there. So. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah, man, it's like an innate thing that doesn't die, man. Because, you know, in the groups that we've had, of course, we've lost people together and stuff. It just, like, sucks. Shamus: Absolutely. Absolutely. Well, like I said, after Bobby moved away, like I picked up Mike, Greg kind of knew me and Bobby when we were kids. Yeah. But Bobby picked up Ryan. Yeah. And they were, you know, best of friends And ⁓ going up to Bobby, I used to go up there all the time because we stayed in touch. ⁓ I met Ryan and Ryan was such a great, ⁓ funny dude. ⁓ not very I would say very he turned me on the whole. ⁓ different thing of music. I was in the hair metal and all that stuff like that and that's when Grunge was starting to come in. So he was listening to like Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and all that crazy shit. And I was just kind of like, wow, this guy, you know. Herbie: Yeah, that's the one thing about friendship because like you can have all these different interests, you know, and it's just like, it kind of like just, it's like a big melting pot. You know what mean? Shamus: And then everybody said we looked alike. Oh, really? Terry to this day, she's like, I'd be at the bar downstairs and she'd be like, right. God damn it. And would walk up and grab me by the shoulders. She's like, I'm talking. I'm like, you're looking for Ryan. Yeah. Oh, my God. We both had big heads. Yeah. That's what it was. least that's what and Eddie was another guy. We lost him to, unfortunately, way too young. Yeah. He was another one. He would always say, I mean, he. Herbie: Hehehehehe Shamus: Totally different animal. He was kind of like Mike in the same sense of just like I'm gonna shoot shit I'm gonna kill things and drink beer Yeah, but he was always another one that was just kind of like hey, man You guys got two of the biggest fucking heads I've ever seen ⁓ Herbie: That's what you could just like, be completely honest and you could like say the funniest. Shamus: And I was just like, where the fuck your eyebrows at motherfucker? Herbie: eyebrow. were like too blonde or something. Shamus: A pagoda must have took your shit and put it on his head. And like I said, that's what we used to do. We used just bust each other's chops. Herbie: You Yeah, relentless man is like if you didn't that was just like, know fucking relent or just beat the shit out of you or get like Shoot each other with blow darts or like ⁓ Shamus: beat each other with lightsabers and shoot fireworks at each other. Herbie: Yeah, yeah, I remember like the the one time when I was like with Steve were at his mom's and He had a bunch of these Roman candles and they like the 20 shotters and I was being like a jerk I was like, ⁓ I wonder what what what end you light so they thought that I didn't know but they deep deep down side they didn't know what what end the light either so it was Steve and Chris my other brother that's that you know, hopefully he's gonna be on the show too that ⁓ They thought that I was, know, they were holding it for me. And I was gonna light it. So I was like, wait a hold on. was like, what am I like? What end do you got to light? So then I held it and they thought that the back end was facing towards, know, the back end was facing towards me, but they thought it was going to shoot that way. So this is at nighttime. So Steve's dad is, you know, he was in the Vietnam war. So we used to watch platoon all the time. He was with the Lurps and all that stuff. So we used to talk about that, you military stuff all the time. So we're in the backyard and he's got his his regular jean jacket and everything. And Chris is standing next to him. And it was nighttime. So he lit it. And you just see, you know, like when you're smart. Yeah. It's like a little match. And it was just like, you know, like he's got this big fucking shitty grin smile on his face thinking I'm to get like super zirped out by these frickin Roman candles. So when he lit it himself and I just pointed it right towards like point blank range, dude. And like just everything just bounced off. He's got burn holes in his jeans. It's like his jean jacket had holes in it. He was like bouncing off him and they all started scrambling. So they're like running around and I'm just like, and it's like it was nighttime. So it did look like that one scene where the VC and the. Yeah, it was just like launch. And what happened was I felt bad because. Shamus: face around. Herbie: their mom just had like siding done to the house. So that first shot actually ricocheted off of him and burned a little hole in the goddamn and it's still there to this day. So what they did was they had a bunch of the Roman candles like outside and then he had the rest of them inside in the living room. So of course I was fast and wily and I retreated out of there. So they started like messing with each other because like they were like, ⁓ what the shit. So I ran inside the house because I knew they weren't going to shoot the Roman candles into the house because was Steve's house. So what I did was, ⁓ I saw the rest of the candles, the Roman candles, like on the living room table and the bathroom that they had actually faced the backyard. So they're out there just like, you know, like messing around like the one or two Roman candles that they had out there, but I grabbed like five or six of these goddamn things and his mom had a, ⁓ you know, one of the potpourri candles lit in there. So I just like lifted up the window. and I had like all five or six of these things and I lit them all up and I just laid there like I was in a bunker and I was just like lighting them all up and they were just like you see them like because you know when the the flares are going by it's just like a quick thing of light and you see them diving all over the backyard like and it was like a 21 shot so I just lit that whole goddamn backyard up man it was great. Shamus: I've seen Trace around in person, dude, so that's exactly what it looks like. Herbie: Yeah, crazy, but it was cool. you know. Shamus: I, when we were, Bobby was a grade behind me in St. Pete's, ⁓ but I used to sit next to this other kid, I'm not gonna say his name. ⁓ This is kinda how I got thrown out of Catholic school, one of the reasons. Me him were thick as thieves, man, me and this guy. And he was sitting to my left, right next to me. And we were like in the two middle rows, and I forget who the student was sitting to his left, but we had this. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: I mean, she was such a nice lady and looking back I'm I'm gonna have to answer for this one And I have no excuse that I'm just gonna want if there is a pearly gates and there is st Pete at the desk and he goes The fuck is this? just gonna go. Yeah, it's my bad like I I've got I can't even I can't give you a story an excuse, bro. You got Great lady, but she was a heavy set. She was a big woman. She was a nun She came up that aisle Herbie: Got that asterisk next to you. Yeah. Shamus: to his left and stopped at the student next to him and like bent down to, I guess, look at the book, whatever we were doing. And her ass was like right in my buddy's face. and he's looking at me. I don't know to this day, man, I still laugh. But it's like I said, every it's probably another year in hell. I to serve every time I laugh. But I was just like, dude, look. And I and he turned and I just Herbie: You Shamus: pushed the back of his head and he face planted right in her ass, bro. I mean, must've goose-ed her. I mean, cause she instantly, woo, and like stood straight up and turned around and her eyes were the size of like paper plates. And he just kinda like, he was just like, holy, and she was like, are you, ha ha, and just started ripping it up. Catcher stuff going office and she was so mad. She didn't even put a finger on him. And he got up and just kind of like, like he was still a child. He's not even breathe like he was just so he got up and walked out and I was like. And of course, here comes the angel and the devil. You do. This is your fault and he's going to get thrown out. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And I had such a crush on his mom. His mom was, ⁓ my God. And this is so and so is going to hate you forever. And you'll never, ever be able to date her when you get older. And of course, you know, the bad guy was just like, who gives a shit, dude? When you get older, you just take her out one night stand and just be done with her anyway. ⁓ So if he's, you'll bite the bullet. He'll be fine. And I was just kind of like. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And I raised my hand and she was just like, go ahead. And I was like, can I go to the bathroom? And she was like, yeah, because I was not going to tell that lady in front of everybody. So I walked out of classroom and went down to the principal's office and I sat next to him and he was just like, dude. And I was like, I got you, bro. I'm going to tell her exactly what happened. And I did. And they were just kind of like, get your. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, get it. Shamus: And of course my dad picked me up and I got in his little Jeep pickup truck and he was just like, give it to me straight. Is that what happened? And I was like, yeah, man. Herbie: Yeah. He's like... Shamus: That's awesome. He was like, you shouldn't have done it. shouldn't treat women like that, whether they're a nun or not. So I'm going to leave this one to your mother. And I was like, Herbie: God. Like, run me over with the Jeep, man. Shamus: Yeah, and we still talk. And every once in while when that comes up, he was like, Dan, you were a stand up guy. He was like, I'll give it to you because we were only Christ fifth grade, sixth grade. And he was like, man, anybody else would have just like I mean, nowadays, kids would just if you catch a kid doing something, they instantly go, well, he did it, too. Or I wasn't doing it. He did it. Like, I don't my job at the school is so easy because I just like I don't have to get that little lamp out anymore. I sweat them. I just walk up to my But he was just like, yeah, man, he was just like, can't believe he like, you walked in the office that next to me. He like, yeah, I got this. Herbie: That's like the kid from the Christmas story remember like when he like, where'd you learn that language from? He's like words and then like, you what your son did? Probably from his father. He just beat the shit out of that kid. hear him on the phone like, ⁓ mom, what'd do? And that's how I got, that's how I left. Shamus: Yeah, that was my last year in Catholic school. So, but I did one of the things they never, and I was always that guy. When I did finally get back to school, I think I was spending for a couple days, I went back and like they never told me to write an apology or tell, and like at the end of school that day, my first day back, I stopped and I was like, I'm really, really sorry. And she kinda, the way I think parents should be nowadays instead of going, it's okay, she was just like, I don't wanna hear it, get away from me. Which is fine, because I deserve that. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes you can't like just accept the apology just to make the other person feel better. You gotta let that shit linger. Shamus: Me and Bobby, me and Bobby used to do a lot of crazy shit together, get in trouble. We were both just like, yeah, we did it. And most of the after a while they were just like, yeah, we know. Herbie: Yeah, see, that's, that's right. Yeah. Yeah, where you get that thing? It's YouTube. Shamus: Yeah, exactly, And they never ask which one of you. Herbie: Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's a joint effort. Shamus: My dad always said mutton Jeff. Yeah. And if you were a friend of mine, you were a friend of my family know, God, those boys were so Mike and his brother, Chris were so rough on cars, man. And they would just. And my dad would just like and my dad had to shop in the back. He was like, just bring it over, dude. And my dad would fix it for just pay for the parts. I'll fix it. Here's another great story real quick. Herbie: That damn joint effort, beat the shit out of them. Shamus: Mike had this 1971 C-10 Chevy pickup truck. mean, big steel truck, ⁓ but he could never get it to run, so he sat in his driveway. We used to drink so much beer at Mike's house that, back in the day, we didn't have these big blue bucket, we just had like them little five or six gallon bucket that you put out at the curb. That was never enough. So we just started piling them in the back of Mike's pickup truck, because it just sat there and never did anything. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: So one day Michael was like, hey, I'm gonna sell this thing. My mom wants me to get rid of it. She's taking me to spot in the driveway. So we had to call it back in a day. There was no Facebook marketplace We had to call the newspaper and put it in the paper. But Michael didn't know shit about cars. I did. he dialed the number, talked to the guy, gave him the payment stuff, and I gave him this description of this truck. I think it was like two days later, because it took a while for the paper to put it down. My dad... Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Michael was at my house, we were drinking beers, and this is how weird life was back in the 90s. It was like our senior year and me, Mike, are having beers with my dad on the front porch. And Michael mentioned it, he said, yeah, I'm selling my truck. My dad's like, well, I'm looking for a truck, what do you have? Mike's like, oh, what is it? And I was like, it's 71C10, Now my dad had never been to Michael's house. So maybe this weekend I can come over look at it. Mike's like, yeah, yeah. And Mike was like, dude, if you... Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: I think I'm asking a grand for it, if you want it, Mr. McKnight, you always help me out. I'll give you 500. Herbie: or whatever. Shamus: paper comes out the next day, me and Mike are at school, and my dad's like, ⁓ same kind of trucks for sale on Delanco. So him and his buddy Pete the Pirate get in the truck and they go over there not knowing it's Mike's house And the first thing they said was, holy shit, man, these guys drink more beer than we do. they look at it, nobody's home. Some of my dad leaves and gets in the car. ⁓ two later, it's the weekend. My dad's like, take me to Mike's real quick. So we pull up, my dad's like, this is Mike's truck. ⁓ And he like, this is what you guys have been doing all ⁓ school years? And then like, yeah. And he was like, don't tell your mother. ⁓ He all that beer. Herbie: Hehehe. You got like $3,000 worth of recyclable cans in there. It's actually worth more than like the beer cans are worth more than the vehicle. Shamus: here's family here stand up guys. My dad's like, me the key real quick. So my dad gets in it. You he listens. So my dad was an amazing mechanic. He listened to it. He pops the honey he's under there for like five minutes and all of a he gets back into fires it up. Mike's like, what the hell did you think? Has it ran in three years? Yeah, it's like, well, this is bringing by the house and he's like, I'll fix the rest of it. Michael end up keeping that truck. I said he was like, I was just going to get ready. He like, I love this truck, but I was going to I couldn't get it to run. So my dad fixed it all up for him. And Michael drove it. up until he left for the military. And then I think his brother drove for a while because Mike left it here. And then I mean, gas prices start going up and that thing was like, German tank. ⁓ old trucks are Yeah, so yeah, Michael, my dad fixed it for him. And but I thought it was funny. The first time I did hold him, he was like, you guys. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, that's why I like these new recycling bins are huge and sometimes I switch it up. It could be either beer bottles or beer cans. You know, I'm more like a boozy a little bit, I guess. So a lot of times if it's beer, it's beer bottles. But, know, sometimes that Sunday night thing when you're dropping them off in the clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, clink. The heck if you get like the box of wine, it's just. That's it. No noise, no must, no fuss, man. Shamus: But. That's kind of. Herbie: Yeah, it is, but you know, it's no noise. My town is really quiet. like, know, when I'm putting out, it's like, it's like, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling, Gling. Shamus: But that is one thing about all you guys, like you, Bobby, Greg, Mike, mean, man, we drink some beers. Oh, yeah. Since the time I crush 92, like my freshman year, the problem was my brother was a senior when I was in eighth grade. So my brother was just like, yeah, you're not going to be a door because everybody knew me because I was a little felb and my brother's last name. So like my eighth grade year, he was taking me all these like the cool kid party. Yeah. So I was like, yeah. Oh, yeah. So my freshman year, like the seniors. knew who I was because they were juniors a year before I was playing sports. So. I met Mike. Oh, Bobby was still there. And I was just like, come on, man. And they were like, what do you mean? We're freshmen. can't. We can't come home. Yeah. And that ride started and it. I mean, I've lost some people along the way. I don't I mean, don't party as much as I used to, but I was about 35. Oh, yeah. Holy. Herbie: Yeah, you're already in. That's like my buddy Steve, when he went in the army and stuff, he was stationed in Germany. So of course we got the, was like, you gotta come out to Germany. You gotta come in. So I finally did that. And of course, you know, we did Oktoberfest with me and my other buddy, Chris, you know, his, his cousin, Chris, and, ⁓ another friend of ours and brother Joe and our buddy Demetrius. And, know, we went to Amsterdam and there's a bunch of, yeah, I could do a whole bunch of stories with that. So we might have to like revisit like some of these other stories, you know, on the next podcast, but, ⁓ yeah, just. drinking beers and hanging out in the woods like everyone say yeah that's true we hung out in the woods. Yeah that was definitely the thing man. ⁓ yeah you can't forget that man. Shamus: Yeah. I almost forgot about that part. I guess. You have Hawkeye and Delanco, which was the peak where the Delaware River and the Rain Cookers Creek meet. ⁓ And for some reason, I don't know why. I'm sure somebody will hit us off on the bell back and tell us. But for some reason, they never developed that. I don't know what's going on back there or whatever. But we used to party our asses off. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Shamus: It was on red and guys would just back into that. We would just burn time. I never did it. They would just burn tires, There was a lake back there. People would go swimming like we'd be on the beach. And then we also had the dumps, which they built a housing development back there. Now we'd be back there. And like I said, it was always because Bobby had moved away. So it was always me, Mike and Greg. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: And if you were at a house party and you saw one of us, the other two were like, oh, yeah, we were at the dunes or hawk. And we were. And most of the time, we were the guys organizing the shit. That's cool because man, God, Lee. There's nothing better than getting a bunch of people together and getting drunk and just laughing. Yeah, especially, know. And another thing we started doing was we buy like cases of Boone Farm or like Wild Irish Rose and stuff. And that way we girls show up. were like, oh, there's disgusting. Like here, try some of this. Yeah. Herbie: and Some snowcrete berry from Boone's farm, Shamus: ⁓ yeah. What's mad, dog? Herbie: ⁓ we're both gonna find out. This is gonna be an adventure for the both of us. Shamus: So, mean, there was times my senior year, I started throwing parties in my house and my parents were cool with it as long as nobody drove, we were responsible and stuff. I was sitting on the porch pan shimmed up and got up, to the bathroom and my dad's on the fucking coffee table with two or three girls in my senior class and they're all dancing and shit. And I was just like, man, this is gonna be good. And my mom was walking out into the living room and I'm like, you cool with this? Herbie: Yeah. That's awesome. Shamus: I can take him home, say, what honey? Herbie: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Shamus: So it was, yeah, it was pretty wild, man, with Boone's Farm and Mad Dog and stuff. Because like I said, a lot of the parties, my freshman and sophomore year, were just like, keg, paid five bucks at the door, here's your cup, you lose your cup, you host another five bucks, but here's a mark, I put your name on it, and if you fuck around, get out. There was never anything for. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, if you were banned from a party, that was all over the high school, too, man. So you were not invited to any other. Shamus: stole something from somebody's house. I went to a small school so if you stealing shit from people's houses you weren't allowed to Herbie: Yeah, were, yeah, and not only did it get your ass kicked too. Shamus: I always thought like I was just kind of like because at the time my high school sweetheart who So much respect for we still talk to this day She's married with kids and all it has a great life. God bless her But she would just stand there and like her and her friends were just like yeah beers grows and I was just kind of like We need to do something about this shit, man. Yeah, we need to get loose Herbie: Yeah, it got to the part where like, know, it's like you're like when you're kids, you're hanging out doing all the crazy parties or like doing all the fun guy stuff. Oh, yeah, it started, you know, because it started. Shamus: This is still in high school. So I was like, yeah, we need to Start doing that we started and the first and this is how crazy it was back in Riverside There was a bar on each corner and like we had like the most it was in Guinness Book of World Records I don't know what year for most liquor licenses and one square ⁓ because Riverside is one square mile So you could walk into a liquor store and nobody parted you nobody did and the first time we walked in there was like, yeah We need a case of boom farm. That guy was just like What do you guys Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: rehabbing or something like what's going on? I mean, is for the chicks. It's like, dude, you guys are like the first teenage dudes that ever came in here. What is it for girls were like, it worked, man. Yeah. Herbie: Are you trying to rehydrate? It's almost like super bad. gotta have the booze for the chicks too. That was always a thing too. Like there was always like a bro code like, all right, it's time like, you know, we can do all the guys stuff, but now it's time like the chicks are starting to enter the arena. So now we gotta have like a plan of attack. Shamus: And it was crazy. we also did a thing where we never. like if I broke up with my girlfriend, I you wouldn't date her. yeah. There's none of that. Yeah, it was like I'd never done that with any of my friends to this day. The ones Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: The one guy thinks that me and his when they split up, she moved in across straight from me and he thought that we were and it never there was no way. Yeah, so that was a broke thing. Another thing we always did was we always looked out for each other. If somebody was throwing up that you never left them in the bathroom, you always took home, you always made sure that kind of shit. Herbie: code you don't miss. I always had their back in case there was a fight. Yeah. Shamus: And all my one buddy, Greg, and I'm sure everybody listening to us who went to school with me knows who I'm talking about. That guy we'd be sitting and be in a different town or something like that. And next, you know, his girlfriend or somebody would be like, Hey, man, Greg's out front getting his ass kicked. And I'm like, and I got to it was almost like a movie. Like we're so used to we'd walk outside and drink a beer and watching two guys holding my another guy just punching him in his stomach. I'm like, Hey, bro, what's going on? I got a great world. He's motherfucking. I'm like. Herbie: Geez. Shamus: He's like, you're going to come help me or what? I'm like, you want to go do you want Mike? Well, let me finish my beer, man. Like we would just sit there. It's like, all right, let's go get. Herbie: Yeah. Get them tired out for a little bit before you jump in. Shamus: That guy could start a fight at a monastery. ⁓ Herbie: He's like, these guys in robes are whooping the shit out of me. Shamus: I ain't never before my life. I could be hanging out with one of the baddest broads on the planet the next thing I know. He wants to start a fight. Herbie: Yeah, plus also the wingman thing there's always the wingman thing yeah, yeah when it comes to chicks yeah, sometimes you You gotta take the one that's less You know not as many points You know I mean Shamus: I've done that a couple. Herbie: Like, know, cover like, know, for like, you know, if they got in trouble, know, a lot of the parents and stuff like that, or, you know, always be like that one. Like, well, you're, you're, you're, one of his good friends. I trust you. You'll, you'll be okay. And then just like, yes, total debauchery. Yeah. Shamus: Well, see, both of them idiots were always... I don't want to sound gay or anything, but they were definitely better looking than me. They were put together. mean, Mike looked like a fucking... He had the nice olive skin, he had the build, know, all nine. And Greg had, you know, he looked... He was a handsome dude. So those guys... I need a wingman. I'm like, all right, no problem. But like, they would talk to the pretty one, but they were cocky and arrogant. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: And say shit to the fucking one I'm supposed to be with to piss them off even more. Wow. And then walk away with them and then she would look at me like, fuck your fucking friend and Mara. I was like. And I'm like, dude, it's one thing to be a wingman, but to get the goddamn plane that's already got bullet holes in it. Herbie: What the sh- really? You know what? Like if the plan normally worked though, then it's like they were able to see a little deal with those chicks are like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like a little distraction and stuff like that, man. ⁓ Shamus: It always worth it for now. Don't piss her off before you walk. Dude, they were just, ⁓ my God, they were relentlessly. Herbie: He's just standing there like, hi. Hey, you and your fucking friends, your friends are all jerks. Shamus: I'm not gonna say any names one time. We're at a party at Mike's house. I banged up I'm like ⁓ gonna go upstairs and pass out so I go up in a Mike's room now Mike's bed was in the middle of the room ⁓ There was like a small walkway on either side but on the rain hand side There was like the wall where the windows were and stuff and there was a street light that used to shine in on the floor next to his bed ⁓ like I'll just crawl between in between the bed and the wall. Yeah Nobody will fuck with me if they open the door. They won't see me because you're always worried about somebody coming in with a marker and drawing a dick on your face. Yeah, so I was like, I'll just like I'll be cool. So I'm not passed out. And next thing I know, the bed starts shaking. So like, ⁓ I kind of rolled over on my back and I. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Yeah. Mike's given it to her. Herbie: So that's happened to me before too, man. Shamus: I think I either had to sneeze or fart or something. I made some kind of but it was like really and also I just see his head like lean over the bed and the street light was hit me perfectly. And he's like, what the fuck are you doing? What am I doing here? I was here first. And like we're whispering like she came. He's laying on top of her. And she was like, Mike, is somebody in here? At the same time, we're both like, no. Herbie: Ha ha ha! Shamus: He's like mother and I hear her scream He gets up Paul's ass naked he turns on the light I leaned I just sat up and she's naked and I was just kind of like They miss like that. She was like, oh my god, I like grabs it. Yeah, and like he just no shit He was just like I guess you don't want to talk about this later, right? Like he's naked walking Herbie: You get it! Shamus: That's me. There's like all these people at the Herbie: Really? Shamus: And we're arguing. I'm not even thinking he was just do what the fuck. And I was like, dude, I was passed out in there before you. I did not because Mike used to call me the nookie elf. had this unique ability to find out where he was banging chicks and and just not that I purposely didn't do it. I just happened to walk into a room with another girl like, oh, and she'd be like, God damn it. But he was like, you and that nookie elf. I'm like, Mike, I was in the fucking room before. Like, all of a sudden I hear. Herbie: I'm a nookie. Yeah, that's gonna be like, heh. Shamus: What the fuck? And I look over. He's dead. Yeah. He's like, well, you've never seen a prick before. ⁓ he's. Herbie: That's when you know it's friendship when you see your buddy's junk all the goddamn Shamus: 40 other people are standing there like, man, we used to have such, I miss that dude so much, man. We had so much fun. Herbie: Me too, man. had this one girlfriend and TJ used to come up and he was just walking in the house because my house was his house. He would sleep in my bed and stuff like that. So I was entertaining my girlfriend at the time, but I had like one of those fold out futons on the floor this way. I make any noise. Yeah, of course the parents are home and everything. And I had the blanket over so sometimes he used to just show up. He was like, he was, it was always like that, that friend that would just show up regardless. Well, like without no warning or nothing like that. drop in. It's like no big deal and shit like that. So sometimes like I used to joke around, like we were in the middle of doing stuff and he'd be like, ah, bullshit. And he would like, of course he was like at first he was like, ah, man, I'm sorry. I'm like, we're only kidding. But the one day I was and I had a blanket over us and stuff like that. And I just hear like the steps coming up and I'm thinking it's like maybe my dad, he's like making his turn to his room and stuff and I'm still going. And then next year, you know, I just hear the door open and I w the, we're like on the futon on the floor. And I had like one of my like gaming chairs, like, like right, like in front of us. So sitting there. And I'm pounding away and next, know, TJ just gets up, he walks in and just sits down on the chairs like, so we're laying on the floor and I'm looking up at him. I'm like, TJ, get the fuck out of here. He's like, no, you're not. You're not doing nothing. I was like, TJ, we are. And she's like my girlfriend at times. She's like, you know, I was like, hi, TJ. Like just like, don't leave. Just wait in my dad's room. You know, cause I didn't want to like raise suspicion and stuff like that, but yeah, he just sat down. He was like sitting there for like a little bit and it took like some talking and dialogue to like convince him that yeah, we're, are in, in coitus. Yeah. That's like, bro. Just, just wait my dad's room. Shamus: Quit. We were, we had a party in a vacant house one time. It was for sale. went, and back in those days, we just didn't go in and wreck the place. Like we just, cleaned up after we were done. We just needed a place. It was raining like, I forget what the fuck happened. But we were in this house and Mike, and he was just like, hey man, he was like, this kid Sean's having a party. It's two blocks from here. We should go there. And I was like, all right, no problem. He's like, there's no chicks here, blah, blah. Herbie: ⁓ those are the best ones, Shamus: And it wasn't. So I was like, all right, man. I said, so I was standing outside talking to Mike and Mike's like one of those guys, but he gets done with a beer. He doesn't look for he just. Flows it over his shoulder. Well, 30 seconds before that, another kid I went to school with went into the bushes to take a piss out there. So when Mike threw the bottle, Mike walks away and that bottle hit this dude right in the head. Bang. So he comes walking over to me and he was just like, you throw that fucking bottle. And I was like. Herbie: Flings it. Shamus: Watch your fucking tone. Who the fuck are you? I'm just saying whoever threw that fucking and before he could even say bottle, this hand comes out of nowhere just and knocks some coal. And I look and it's Greg. Yeah, it's just like, dude, what? He was just like, what the hell is he talking about? I was like, well, somebody hit him with a bottle. He's like, did you do it? And I was like, no, I was explaining that. Yeah, I just saw him walking real quick towards it. Yeah, we ain't got time for this. yeah, we got to go to Sean's. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ That's there's chicks there! Shamus: Put him to sleep. Let's go. So we left them there. ⁓ I think his girlfriend like in the background was like, ⁓ my God, he just knocked me out. I was just kind of like, Greg, you know, Mike did hit him with that bottle. And he was just like, yeah, fuck him. don't like that dude. But I mean, that's just how it was. Yeah. Well, I don't know what happened to that dude that night. I saw him later and he was like, did you throw that? And I was like, no, I didn't throw an asshole. Herbie: then all of these went to that party. Yeah. ⁓ Shamus: He's like, well, who the fuck punched me? I was like, I don't know. Herbie: ⁓ no, just came out of the shadows. I thought your girl. Listen, that's the one thing like, you know, with the the buddies thing, man, you need the pals, stand up guys, you need you need like that. That security, man, there's like you just you're going to get in trouble and you all do it together, man. It's just like it's it's you know, what was the like in the winter soldier? He's like, you know, to the to the to the I'm on the ride with you to the end, Yeah. ⁓ Shamus: Girl did it. Yeah, so the wheels fall off. Ride or die. I think we were so close. Me and Mike got so close at one point that when we walked into a bar, like when I first started the job with the state, my days off were Tuesday, Wednesday. So Tuesday was. Was it Tuesday? Yeah, no, Wednesday. Wednesday was date. Tuesday was band night when I played in the band. Or it might have changed after I got out band, but one of those nights was either Wednesday or Tuesday date night. And that was me and him. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Like we weren't taking chicks with us. were just, and we'd walk into bars and people were just like, hey, it be date night. Hey, let's go. Everybody knew who we were. And I knew we were tight. So like when he passed away, like a lot of those people were at the funeral. And like when I walk into a bar now, they're just kind of like, and I'm like, it's cool, man. It's always date night. He's always here. He's always with me. Because one or two of the bartenders, you know, now that they're older, Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: They went back to it after they raised their kids and they're just like, and I'm like, yeah, I'm easier. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, I know. Hopefully we get to see them in Valhalla, Shamus: Yeah, I don't it's like I said, there's certain things every once in a while and I know this sounds weird because I'm not that guy. we'll never talk religion on here, but there's a reason another reason I was thrown out of catholic school. Sometimes I just don't buy all the bullsh**. ⁓ but there's times like, you know, he's, he's there or like, you hear a song. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, or like almost like little messages and stuff. Yeah. it is as the force wills it. Shamus: Yeah. Like you get them subliminal kind of. You know, like I'll be having a shitty day or, know, and all of a like his, ⁓ my God. ⁓ my God. What's the name of that song? That song. And you woo woo woo. You could be mine. Anything you want. And like, ⁓ my God. The woo woo song. Yeah. And that dude could not sing to save his ass. Michael. Yeah. He had that North Jersey accent. ⁓ my God. That ⁓ and. Herbie: Yes, I'm gonna bring you back. gonna drive us nuts. Shamus: There was a song that would come on the radio and he had this pickup truck and he would do this shoulder shimmy where his hand would touch the floorboard on the pasture side and this arm would go out the window and he'd be like, it just start. And every time I hear that song, I'm like, so yeah. Herbie: Yeah. was like, and it woo woo woo. Shamus: Sometimes it brings a tear to my eye, Herbie: Yeah, man, even like, know, because like, ⁓ when we lost Ryan, we were, we were both leaving the funeral together in the car and I was a mess. Now. Yeah, me too, man. But like, like, at least we like confirmed, like when we were leaving and we drove by and the liquor store and that big Captain Morgan truck was right there. I was like, ⁓ man, yeah, Ryan's letting us know he's okay, man. So it kind of like gave us a little thing, but yeah, I was, yeah. We do lose our friends, man, but we. Shamus: Yeah, man. Herbie: Now, there's... Shamus: And it sucks when it's the ones that are so because like I said, I have a ton of friends and I love every one of them. ⁓ yeah. But there are certain guys that I'm taking a bullet for. Yeah. And when you lose those guys, you're like, ⁓ yeah. Like I said, some of that Mike and not in this order, but like my parents, Mike and Marlene, my daughter, some of the roughest times I've ever had. Herbie: Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. That's the sacred circle, bro. You know, you can't like there's there's there may be plenty of people outside that small ring, man. But you know that there's those people are there for that. that for that reason is like the sacred circle, you know, and I'm sure everyone like listeners have that stuff to. I matter of fact, people are listening. I hope you do have those friends. I hope you still have your friends that are around and you can share more memories and stuff like that or just reflect on like, you know, the time that you guys got hammered, the time you got in trouble, the time maybe you might have almost frickin' the time you like you just almost like you had to fight your way out of a bar and you know got hit in head with a chair or just any of that type or you know just getting you know they pick you up and drag you out of a bar and cancun while you're passed out or you know if you fall face first and pass out and you're like yeah you're staking eggs like while you're at a diner late at night and you're just sitting there like making sure like is he breathing yep okay let's finish our meal yeah I mean Shamus: She shit right there. And it's like I said, there's certain things that like when Top Gun Maverick came out, like when Goose's son sits down to piano starts and like you see Maverick looking and seeing is that like every time I hear that Jeffrey Osborn song, that's the first it's almost like that part in the movie. You're just kind of like, man, like I got my dog with me no more. Just bull. Herbie: Yeah, I know that's the one thing about dudes man, but like but like I know some people don't think we really have any feelings but we do we just like you know, sometimes you just got to I don't know why we hold it in but it's just like almost like a thing of control or anything like that because like, you know We feel it deeply man, but it's just like it's just the way we process it Shamus: ⁓ if I fuck with you, ⁓ you get everything you all me. And when you lose that man, you just. I don't really talk to Greg too much. But when I do, actually, I haven't talked to him in a while, but ⁓ he knows he knows I'm there. I'm not going say why. But there's been times I've helped him out and ⁓ I haven't talked to him and I haven't seen him in probably a good eight to 10 years. But. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: There's times like just recently, I'm just like, yeah, I got it. So when his brother's like, hey, thanks, man, I'm like, all right, no problem. He said Mike's gone. And Bobby's still the Bobby. Bobby's Bobby. Bobby's son's getting ready to graduate high school, so know he's got a lot going on. Hopefully when Connor either goes to college or does whatever and stuff, he'll have more time for us and start hanging out. ⁓ But yeah, it's almost like the Mother's Day thing where, know, if you've got buddies, man, Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Do spend as much time as you can. I mean, don't neglect your family. do that. But, you know, just make sure they know. Herbie: cause you may have like, you know, that cool cousin at Thanksgiving and stuff like that, but like it's almost like the, boys, man, you know, the pal, you know, the, brothers that you, that you grew up with and went through thick and thin, man. That's why I just, always, every time I think about that, me and my buddy Steve, man, we just pals. I always think about pals, man. Shamus: Yeah, almost before we go speaking of that and like you almost got us killed in fence for that oh, yeah Herbie: Yeah, I should have won that goddamn cause Shamus: I would like to think that my loyalty started right there. I told. But they were like, who's that for all you people at home? Yeah, we went to a Halloween party contest at this bar called Fets. I don't know what it's called now. It's down near the Piccolo. Yeah, one 90 different names since then. Yeah, well. Oh, one more. But at the time it was Fets and they had a Halloween costume. Herbie: It was awesome It's one more bar and grill. Shamus: Contest or something like that. Obviously it was around Halloween So we walk in and I was wearing some bullshit today Herbie wore the silver mask from Stanley Kubrick's eyes wide shut Yeah, he had the whole app Beauty of it was when herbie walked in he was so in the character He never said a fucking word now if you know herbie that had to be the hardest thing on the planet for her because we were in there for a good three hours Herbie: It was like the black cloak that happened. Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: and mask and he never said a word and he did look creepy as shit with them eyes just looking around and people started freaking out. were like, no, just say something. And then when they announced the contest. He still didn't take the mask off and say anything so now they're like go buddy the man it's over. Who the fuck are you? And I was just kind of like we're gonna have to fight our way out of here tonight And Jay was Jay started sweating a little bit. I was just like hey, man. Here's the deal I think you see the three guys sitting next to him. He was like, yeah, I was like you take the big one I'm gonna take the two smaller guys and when I get done with them, I'll help you with the big guy. He was like, are you serious? Herbie: I was ready. Ha! Shamus: I was like, you're right. You take the two small guys. I'll take the big guy. When I get done with him, he was like, are you fucking here? We're going to have to fight. And I don't know how we got out of there without a fight. I think the owner said something to everybody like, hey, man, it's not two seconds after he got out the door. Herbie ripped off his pants. He's like, I should have won ⁓ I have. And I was like, J and everybody there was like, bro, we almost had to fight like 20 rednecks. And you're worried about that. Herbie: you Yeah, well was gonna buy all over our drinks man. I was like it was like $200 pot or something like that, and I I had the best costume. Yeah, I did I had the best costume and the cool thing about like the mask had like no emotion And it just had like this one little small hole Shamus: You are good for stuff like that. can go lie, after a while you start freaking me out. I was like, man, at one point I thought when you're starting to drink, I was just kinda like, did he go in the bathroom and switch out with somebody? Has that heard me under there? I don't even know if that's still him, man. Herbie: You what it is too, like with me, whenever I put on a costume, sometimes, especially that one, that one's hard to take off. You know what mean? And I didn't feel like going through all that, especially like... And the dude was like, who are you? And I told him, was like, dude, you don't know me. I'm like, I don't even know who you are, you don't know who I am. He's like, just take the mask off. And I'm like, I don't really feel like going through all that shit. Shamus: You looked amazing. Herbie: Take the mask off for a hot second for this fucking jerk off to be like, ⁓ yeah, I don't know you I'm like, yeah, no shit asshole. I've been telling you that for like two hours and then it started getting other people And I was getting pissed off too because I was like just leave me the fuck I would just sat there and That's why towards the end of night and when I had that beer bottle was empty and I was just waiting I was like, ⁓ shit's gonna go off and I was still holding on to that empty beer bottle in case I had to do a little swag attack on people But ⁓ yeah, I just didn't feel it and I like I got more pissed off cuz like they were everyone was like it was Shamus: fired up. Herbie: They were not even. Shamus: I couldn't believe I was like, dude, this is a cool gimmick. Like this is supposed to be fun and you guys are totally being jerk off about it. Herbie: That's the one thing I hate about like fucking Halloween parties like with most people like when you get there Everyone's all dressed up and like fucking half hour later. Everyone's taking the shit off. I'm like I even bother wearing a mask, you know, mean that that's just like my pet peeve because like sometimes there's people like they've either grabbed your face and want to try and take the mask off I fucking hate that or if you have like a fuck and you know and then wonder why shit pops off or like if you're like, you know have like a toy sword or some shit you always got some jerk off that wants to grab the sword and Shamus: That's why I always Herbie: act like he knows what he's doing. like, dude, just leave this shit alone. It's part of the costume. Don't touch me. I don't touch you. Leave me the fuck alone. Thanks, brother, because I was ready to fucking crack that dude right the face. Yeah, man. Shamus: I was ready to die for you that night. I mean, they're going to they're going to tie me to a goddamn the hood. is fucking 1971 Ford F-100. You know, like I'm a goddamn deer. They just killed him. Like, hey, why don't I go for a ride? And they ain't getting that mask off. Herbie: There was a bunch of people too, mean it was just and there was people that wanted to leave me alone and so and I literally just sat there I didn't really do anything to nobody and even people that came up to me I'll lean in and like tell me like look I don't know you like I'm not from here, but take it off anyway and then I lost the Halloween contest even like yeah You had to get up and like walk around the whole bar and then of course I did get into character sounds like fuck these guys but ⁓ Yeah. And I thought I smelled crockpot soup in there too. maybe that could have... I was like, fuck. Shamus: If you go before I do dude, I'll sneak in in the middle of the night and etch pals. Pals. Herbie: Nah, we're going to live to forever, bro. Shamus: I would like to think that. ⁓ I don't know if I want to, but yeah, I probably would. Herbie: I wanna be like, at least like, know, the dudes like grumpy old men, you know what mean? Just be like... Shamus: No doubt. I'm hoping I got a good, what am I, 38? No. I'll be 49 in July, so I would like to get like at least another 30 years out of this. Maybe make it to 80. Herbie: Yeah. I want to do a hundred, right, but actually still have all my wits about Shamus: was gonna say, I'll do 100 if it's like the Mel Brooks 100. But ⁓ it's like 100 where somebody's wiping my ass and I to ⁓ Herbie: Okay, yeah, yeah. Well, yeah, that was my thing like I want to be like totally with it but act like I don't know what I'm doing I just like start stealing shit doing hardcore drugs and be in the nursing home like mr. Brower Just like you're squeezing mama's you know squeezing nurses and stuff. I love me some nurses. God bless them. But yeah, I want to be that dude Shamus: So, all right, we should probably wrap this up.
