- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Inside the Birds. We'll call
- 0:13Speaker 1: it NFL Conference Championship recap. I don't ordinarily do this,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher. Of course don't ordinarily do this, but
- 0:23Speaker 1: both games are really tremendous games on Sunday, the Conference
- 0:28Speaker 1: championship games. Normally we do football at four on Monday
- 0:32Speaker 1: with our partners Mike Gillett ninety seven to three ESPN
- 0:35Speaker 1: and South Jersey. But the Sixers play today at three o'clock,
- 0:40Speaker 1: so they carry Sixers games, So there would be no
- 0:43Speaker 1: football at four today, and I know we were going
- 0:45Speaker 1: to talk about the conference championship game, so I just
- 0:48Speaker 1: figured I would do it here. I won't get too
- 0:51Speaker 1: much into the Super Bowl preview, you know, I'll do
- 0:54Speaker 1: that on Sunday this coming Sunday next weekend. I'll give
- 0:58Speaker 1: you my initial thought on the matchup, and then we'll
- 1:04Speaker 1: close off the season the following Saturday. I'll give you
- 1:09Speaker 1: the my preview of the Super Bowl. You're getting a
- 1:15Speaker 1: great what should be a great matchup. Obviously, a Patriots
- 1:19Speaker 1: team that came from nowhere behind Drake May, Mike Rabel,
- 1:25Speaker 1: excellent coaching job. Josh McDaniels kind of came from nowhere
- 1:29Speaker 1: and really proved themselves. You know, they went fourteen and
- 1:33Speaker 1: three in the regular season, but there were question marks
- 1:35Speaker 1: about just how viable they really were, and surely Denver
- 1:40Speaker 1: being on its backup quarterback, you could say they got
- 1:44Speaker 1: an easier path for sure to the Super Bowl. However,
- 1:47Speaker 1: with the way the elements of that game and how
- 1:49Speaker 1: it went, it was certainly not easy. But you could
- 1:51Speaker 1: say the path was a little easier. But it doesn't
- 1:54Speaker 1: undermine I shouldn't undermine everything that this Patriots team has accomplished.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I know, very difficult for a lot of people who
- 2:01Speaker 1: still have Patriots fatigue from the Tom Brady era to
- 2:05Speaker 1: appreciate the Patriots back in the Super Bowl. But a
- 2:08Speaker 1: tremendous coaching job, tremendous talent development job. Also, if we're
- 2:14Speaker 1: being fair, free agency, Elliott Wolfe, the GM who came
- 2:19Speaker 1: to the New England a couple of years ago from
- 2:21Speaker 1: his time in Green Bay, has to be has to
- 2:24Speaker 1: be praised because free agency, as we all know, can
- 2:28Speaker 1: go two ways. It can be great, it could really
- 2:31Speaker 1: sabotage your team. Some of the guys that they brought
- 2:34Speaker 1: in Milton Williams, Carlton Davis, Steph Diggs all right, were
- 2:39Speaker 1: home run signings, and I'm not sure that we knew
- 2:44Speaker 1: that was going to be the case. And obviously the
- 2:45Speaker 1: drafting of Will Campbell there are question marks around him
- 2:49Speaker 1: coming at LSU with short arms. But the Patriots did
- 2:54Speaker 1: an excellent job, took advantage of a year that Patrick
- 2:58Speaker 1: Mahomes and Lamar Jackson weren't in their way, and they're
- 3:01Speaker 1: in the super Bowl, and of course they're going to
- 3:03Speaker 1: face Seattle Seahawks team that is absolutely impressive. I believe
- 3:08Speaker 1: I saw that there were five point favorites. I think
- 3:10Speaker 1: that's fair. People will talk about this being a rematch
- 3:16Speaker 1: of what the twenty fourteen season Super Bowl really not.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I mean, yes, this Seattle team is a defensive team,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and yes, the Patriots for most of the year were
- 3:27Speaker 1: an offensive team. Defense has really come together in the playoffs.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But this is nothing like you know, the Brady Russell
- 3:33Speaker 1: Wilson matchup, where I should say Brady versus Legion and
- 3:36Speaker 1: Boom matchup. Nothing like that. This is a two completely
- 3:40Speaker 1: different teams, different coaches, different personnel obviously, and it will
- 3:44Speaker 1: be a different storyline onto its own right. Those of
- 3:50Speaker 1: you might be happy about this outcome because you don't
- 3:55Speaker 1: get the Rams Broncos matchup that I thought I had predicted.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I thought it was gonna be ramsing Rams Broncos going
- 4:03Speaker 1: into the playoffs. I even thought with the backup quarterback
- 4:07Speaker 1: situation with the Broncos, they were gonna pull it out.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I was wrong about that. But I did say in
- 4:12Speaker 1: my last show that the perils of having a Broncos
- 4:17Speaker 1: Rams Super Bowl was you are going to be beaten
- 4:20Speaker 1: to death for two weeks with storylines about how brilliant
- 4:23Speaker 1: of a coach Sean mcpay is and how brilliant of
- 4:26Speaker 1: a coach Sean Payton is, and how Peyton is going
- 4:29Speaker 1: to be in line to be the first coach to
- 4:34Speaker 1: win a Super Bowl with two different teams. Nobody has
- 4:37Speaker 1: to worry about that anymore. That's not going to be
- 4:41Speaker 1: at all the storyline went. In fact, now here's the
- 4:47Speaker 1: dominant storyline that will probably, you know, be beaten to
- 4:51Speaker 1: death and people will probably be tired of it by
- 4:54Speaker 1: the time the game rolls around. But the storyline for
- 4:57Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, which again we'll get into later or
- 5:00Speaker 1: not not for this episode, but for the next two weeks,
- 5:04Speaker 1: will be Sam Donald. I mean that that is the storyline.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And I'm sorry to Drake May. He's had an unbelievable
- 5:10Speaker 1: second year career, second year season, he's been fantastic. He
- 5:14Speaker 1: deserves the attention he gets. I think if they were
- 5:17Speaker 1: facing any other team, the storyline would probably be something
- 5:21Speaker 1: along the lines of, you know, is Drake May going
- 5:26Speaker 1: to win the Super Bowl in his second year like
- 5:28Speaker 1: Tom Brady, and you know, is he going to be
- 5:30Speaker 1: the next great you know, brady ish quarterback for New England.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That would have been because you know, you got two weeks,
- 5:35Speaker 1: you got to fill up content anywhere. But this will
- 5:38Speaker 1: be the Sam Donald revenge Tour. It will be two
- 5:42Speaker 1: weeks of it, and deservedly so. Sam Donald played a
- 5:46Speaker 1: great getting out a good game. He played a great game,
- 5:50Speaker 1: a fantastic game. I thought he played an even better
- 5:54Speaker 1: game than he played throughout the playoffs. And I thought
- 5:59Speaker 1: it was even a better better game than when the
- 6:02Speaker 1: Seahawks and Seahawks and sorry Rams played at the end
- 6:09Speaker 1: of the year or the week fifteen to six, something
- 6:12Speaker 1: like that, and they played. Donald had a bunch of
- 6:15Speaker 1: turnovers in that game, and then he snapped out of
- 6:17Speaker 1: it and spearheaded and unbelievable comeback. But I told you
- 6:21Speaker 1: in that show that comeback was more about for Shaheed
- 6:24Speaker 1: returning a punt getting them back in the game, then
- 6:27Speaker 1: the offense coming through getting a touchdown, which was to
- 6:30Speaker 1: a wide open barner, I mean, and then of course
- 6:32Speaker 1: the touchdown that Donald threw in that game in overtime
- 6:38Speaker 1: was fantastic, little leak out at the running back. It
- 6:41Speaker 1: was great. I'm just saying I thought this past game
- 6:45Speaker 1: by Donald was about as good of a game that
- 6:48Speaker 1: you're gonna get from Donald. Because everybody, myself included, and
- 6:53Speaker 1: we'll talk about fourth down decisions in the show, but
- 6:56Speaker 1: everybody was kind of waiting. I was getting text from
- 7:00Speaker 1: a friend, all right, fourth quarter, the Rams are just
- 7:03Speaker 1: going down the field. You know they were down by ten,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Now they're just going down. Bam bam bam. When does
- 7:07Speaker 1: Donald make the debilitating mistake? And he did not made
- 7:11Speaker 1: a lot of good throws, So good on Sam Donald.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's gonna be a tough week if you're maybe not
- 7:17Speaker 1: a fan of the Jets or the Panthers or the Vikings,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but maybe if you're part of the ownership of the
- 7:22Speaker 1: team where the I mean the GMS for the Jets
- 7:25Speaker 1: and the Panthers aren't there anymore, but and the coaches
- 7:28Speaker 1: aren't there anymore. But so it'll be tough for some fans.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It'll be tough for certainly the owners, maybe Kevin O'Connell
- 7:35Speaker 1: for sure. I mean those that GM in Minnesota, that
- 7:39Speaker 1: head coach O'Connell making the decision to go on to
- 7:43Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy. They could have retained Sam Donald if they
- 7:46Speaker 1: wanted to. They could have given McCarthy more time, could
- 7:50Speaker 1: have taken a playbook out of the Patriots, I'm sorry,
- 7:53Speaker 1: out of the Packers, you know, playbook which is basically,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, draft a quarterback and let him sit a
- 7:58Speaker 1: couple of years behind a really good one. I'm sure
- 8:01Speaker 1: they believed in Sam Donald, but just not to the
- 8:04Speaker 1: level that they felt, especially after his last game with
- 8:07Speaker 1: the Vikings and all the pressure that he was under.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But they're probably kicking themselves now. Sam Donald is a
- 8:14Speaker 1: good quarterback, not a great quarterback, good good quarterback, very
- 8:21Speaker 1: very good fit for the scheme that they run, going
- 8:25Speaker 1: under center play action. But you know that doesn't a scheme.
- 8:28Speaker 1: A scheme helps you, you know, I get into this
- 8:31Speaker 1: conversation a lot. You know, he's a system quarterback. He's
- 8:33Speaker 1: a scheme quarterback. Okay, the scheme helps you, for sure, right,
- 8:37Speaker 1: And a bad scheme, which Donald was in for the
- 8:39Speaker 1: first few years of his career compared to a good
- 8:42Speaker 1: scheme can really make or break a quarterback, but or
- 8:45Speaker 1: at least set a quarterback on a better path to success.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But you've got to make those throws. I've seen guys
- 8:52Speaker 1: in good schemes just not perform well. And Sam Donald
- 8:56Speaker 1: has taken his game higher level and he's not the
- 9:00Speaker 1: guy that anymore, or at least we haven't seen it,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and we'll see what happens to the super Bowl, but
- 9:04Speaker 1: he has shaken off that image of the guy who's
- 9:06Speaker 1: gonna blow you the game in the fourth quarter or
- 9:09Speaker 1: he's gonna succumb to a lot of pressure and make
- 9:12Speaker 1: the perilous mistake. So good for Sam Donald. Great great story.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It will be the dominant storyline for the next two weeks.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I'm not sure that there's anything else that's even gonna
- 9:24Speaker 1: come close to that. You know, my some Mike Rabel
- 9:27Speaker 1: getting discarded by Tennessee and then coming and leading the team.
- 9:31Speaker 1: You know, the former Patriot who played under Bill Belichick
- 9:34Speaker 1: taking the team in his first year, which is amazing.
- 9:37Speaker 1: To the first year coaching that team to the Super Bowl.
- 9:39Speaker 1: That'll get some love as well. You know, Mike McDonald,
- 9:44Speaker 1: the job he's done. And here's a real storyline that
- 9:48Speaker 1: will get pursued and talked about, and probably not as
- 9:51Speaker 1: much as it should. But John Schneider, the general manager
- 9:56Speaker 1: for the Seattle Seahawks, you know, the decision to move
- 10:00Speaker 1: on from Pete Carroll, who was of a franchise legend
- 10:03Speaker 1: and an overall great guy. I'm sure that wasn't easy.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Hiring Mike McDonald, which was not a slam dunk. A
- 10:09Speaker 1: lot of guys don't want to hire defensive coaches. They
- 10:11Speaker 1: worry about what that guy is going to bring in offensively.
- 10:15Speaker 1: And then the decision to trade just to sign San Donald,
- 10:19Speaker 1: trade Gino Smith, I mean all of his the drafting
- 10:22Speaker 1: of Nick aman Warri, the safety out of South Carolina,
- 10:25Speaker 1: who is the epicenter of what they do defensively, everything,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and listen, he hires Mike McDonald. Mike McDonald brings in
- 10:33Speaker 1: Clint Kubiak, another good storyline. Kubiak was the offensive coordinator
- 10:37Speaker 1: for the Saints last year, not last year, but in
- 10:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. You all remember how the Saints started
- 10:43Speaker 1: off with forty point games in their first two weeks,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, the injuries set in
- 10:49Speaker 1: on the offensive line, O Lave quarterback everything, and they
- 10:53Speaker 1: were a show of themselves. But you could see the
- 10:56Speaker 1: early impact Kubiak was going to have on that Saint
- 11:00Speaker 1: offense when it was healthy, as they were just mowing
- 11:03Speaker 1: through the first two opponents scoring forty points. Now, they
- 11:06Speaker 1: weren't going to do that all year long. But my
- 11:07Speaker 1: point is you could see that he had really good
- 11:10Speaker 1: offensive passing concepts that in general work well when you
- 11:14Speaker 1: have the right people on your offensive line, the right quarterback,
- 11:17Speaker 1: the right set of weapons, and he does. Yeah, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: the Saints have a good running back, good offensive line,
- 11:24Speaker 1: a great good better than average, an unbelievable wide receiver
- 11:29Speaker 1: in Jackson Smith and Jigba, and honestly, the fact that
- 11:33Speaker 1: they don't have that many other great weapons speaks to
- 11:37Speaker 1: just how good of a job Koubiak has done with
- 11:40Speaker 1: the offense in general and his concept and his scheme
- 11:42Speaker 1: getting guys open. This must have been a very very
- 11:46Speaker 1: difficult game to watch. And then even you know, first
- 11:51Speaker 1: half of the you know Patriots Broncos game. You saw
- 11:55Speaker 1: some things there and you think, man, guys getting schemed open?
- 11:59Speaker 1: How about that must have been must have been a
- 12:01Speaker 1: very difficult watch at times for Eagles fans. But you
- 12:04Speaker 1: have to appreciate what a good scheme and a good
- 12:06Speaker 1: play caller can do so real quick on the first game.
- 12:12Speaker 1: You know, fourth down decisions are really difficult. Everybody thinks
- 12:16Speaker 1: they have the answer. Everybody thinks either you'd go with
- 12:19Speaker 1: the analytics or you go with the common sense, right,
- 12:22Speaker 1: because sometimes the analytics challenged conventional thinking. I'm not trying
- 12:26Speaker 1: to say analytics aren't common sense, but you know it's
- 12:29Speaker 1: fourth and something, you're deep in enemy territory and you
- 12:32Speaker 1: decide to kick the field goal. Some people just say
- 12:34Speaker 1: that's common sense because you're taking the points, and some
- 12:37Speaker 1: people say, no, there's the analytics tell you to go
- 12:40Speaker 1: for it. There's no I've done this long enough to
- 12:42Speaker 1: know that I don't truly believe that there is an
- 12:45Speaker 1: absolute right or wrong, and we are not privy to
- 12:48Speaker 1: know what happens when you go the opposite route. For example,
- 12:51Speaker 1: if you decide to go for it a fourth down
- 12:53Speaker 1: deep in your opponent territory, and you don't get it, Well,
- 12:56Speaker 1: we don't know what would have happened if you decide
- 12:59Speaker 1: to kick it, could miss the field goal. We don't
- 13:01Speaker 1: know if you decided to kick the field goal, We
- 13:02Speaker 1: don't know if you would have made or missed the
- 13:04Speaker 1: fourth down. We can only go by percentages likelihood how
- 13:09Speaker 1: the game is going. And even then, even then you
- 13:12Speaker 1: can never be sure what the other decision would have
- 13:16Speaker 1: gotten you. All right, So when the Broncos were up
- 13:19Speaker 1: seven to nothing and Stidham was doing a nice job,
- 13:22Speaker 1: he had that really nice pass to Mims, all right,
- 13:25Speaker 1: you got the deep ball going, they get in the
- 13:28Speaker 1: end zone. They're up seven to nothing, Patriots are struggling
- 13:31Speaker 1: to move the ball, Broncos defensive sacking May and early on,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and you could just you could feel the momentum for
- 13:39Speaker 1: the Broncos. And I understand why at that moment, up
- 13:44Speaker 1: seven nothing, second quarter, Peyton's facing fourth and one in
- 13:49Speaker 1: Patriots red zone. Believe it was in the red zone.
- 13:53Speaker 1: He goes for it, and he wants to go for
- 13:56Speaker 1: the juggular. He wants to be up fourteen nothing. I
- 13:59Speaker 1: kind of fell at the time that I would have
- 14:02Speaker 1: done that too. I don't blame him singularly for that.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I didn't love the play call. It's a play action roll, right,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know, you kind of take half the field away
- 14:12Speaker 1: from the quarterback. You don't give him as many scrambling
- 14:15Speaker 1: lanes because you can if he if he's gonna run
- 14:17Speaker 1: for it. In a game where both those guys ran
- 14:19Speaker 1: a lot, the defense is already flowing in the direction
- 14:22Speaker 1: that he's going in, so it's difficult to run for it.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So I didn't love the play call, but I'm not
- 14:26Speaker 1: you know, I'm not a play caller. I could sit
- 14:30Speaker 1: here and say, man, they should have ran like an
- 14:31Speaker 1: RPO to give him more options and you know, give
- 14:34Speaker 1: more guessworks the defense. That doesn't mean it's going to work.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I have no idea, but I didn't mind it. But
- 14:40Speaker 1: here's one thing that I didn't know, and I would
- 14:43Speaker 1: imagine the people watching at home also didn't know. Also,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I had no idea that the second half of that
- 14:50Speaker 1: game was going to be played in a snowstorm, A
- 14:54Speaker 1: bad snowstorm. I mean, you saw you saw footage of
- 14:58Speaker 1: what the field looked like mid way through the third quarter.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It was still kind of playable and clear, and you
- 15:03Speaker 1: could see everything to early in the fourth quarter where
- 15:05Speaker 1: you couldn't see anything. That's how fast and furiously the
- 15:09Speaker 1: snow fell. I have to think that that was not
- 15:13Speaker 1: some pop up storm, and that there were at least
- 15:17Speaker 1: warnings to both teams and head coaches knew prior to
- 15:21Speaker 1: the start of the game that a snowstorm was gonna come.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This is what they did. They check everybody know. Every
- 15:27Speaker 1: head coach in the world is prepared for every scenario weatherwise,
- 15:33Speaker 1: way before the game even begins, okay, but especially right
- 15:37Speaker 1: out in game day. They want to know it up
- 15:39Speaker 1: to the hour. These guys are that detailed. So I
- 15:43Speaker 1: know that Sean Payton and I know that Mike Vrabel
- 15:46Speaker 1: knew all right that Denver was most likely going to
- 15:51Speaker 1: get some kind of precipitation. Maybe they didn't know as
- 15:54Speaker 1: that much snow, who knows, but that snowfall was coming
- 15:57Speaker 1: in the second half, right, And if Sean Payton knew
- 16:00Speaker 1: that that it was gonna be treacherous conditions. Scoring was
- 16:05Speaker 1: gonna be difficult, seeing, the field was gonna be tough,
- 16:08Speaker 1: the wind was gonna change, which it did. It was
- 16:10Speaker 1: gonna be at your face so badly on one side
- 16:13Speaker 1: of the field that you probably have trouble throwing the
- 16:15Speaker 1: ball forward. If he knew that, then he should have
- 16:19Speaker 1: kicked the field goal there. I say that with hindsight,
- 16:22Speaker 1: but I don't have all the information he does. Then
- 16:26Speaker 1: the reason you kick the field goal there, if you
- 16:28Speaker 1: know that, is because you're already up seven to nothing.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You have a chance then to make it a two
- 16:32Speaker 1: possession game. You're not necessarily going for the juggular. But
- 16:36Speaker 1: if you feel you're already close, you know you're getting
- 16:38Speaker 1: closer to halftime, if you're playing great defense, If you
- 16:41Speaker 1: feel that moving the ball is going to be very
- 16:44Speaker 1: difficult and that the other team scoring twice is going
- 16:49Speaker 1: to be really difficult, then it probably would have behooved
- 16:54Speaker 1: you to kick the field goal there and go up
- 16:59Speaker 1: ten nothing. And does it automatically mean they would have won?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Obviously not. I mean the Patriots got ten points. Okay,
- 17:08Speaker 1: they got the touchdown about two possessions later. Will know
- 17:11Speaker 1: Stidham made a terrible, terrible mistake throwing the ball forward
- 17:15Speaker 1: like that, Just a bad, bad play by a quarterback
- 17:20Speaker 1: who's just not experienced in that situation. It led to
- 17:23Speaker 1: the Patriots scoring a touchdown, so it could have been
- 17:25Speaker 1: ten to seven there and then you know, obviously the
- 17:29Speaker 1: Patriots get the field goal in the third quarter ten ten,
- 17:32Speaker 1: but still you're not losing. And I just feel like
- 17:36Speaker 1: in hindsight, and it's sure this is all hindsight, but
- 17:41Speaker 1: again you have the information, go up, take the points,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and go up two possessions. Make the Patriots, who are
- 17:49Speaker 1: have arrived early, right, make them have to go score
- 17:55Speaker 1: ten just to tie it. They got the seven, that
- 18:00Speaker 1: was pretty easy, easily handed to him, but then they
- 18:03Speaker 1: missed two field goals. The issue, the real issue is
- 18:07Speaker 1: the Broncos kicker missed the field goal. That wasn't a gimme.
- 18:11Speaker 1: But in Denver, you get the altitude, distance, you get
- 18:15Speaker 1: it's it's not uncommon to kick make kicks in the
- 18:17Speaker 1: fifties in Denver. I get. I get that the snow
- 18:20Speaker 1: was coming down and all that. I think this was
- 18:22Speaker 1: still in the second quarter though before it got bad.
- 18:25Speaker 1: He missed the field goal. That hurts too. But I
- 18:29Speaker 1: don't know if even if it's ten to ten, if
- 18:31Speaker 1: if the Broncos win that game, because Stidham was clear
- 18:34Speaker 1: it seemed after he threw the ball that was that
- 18:39Speaker 1: was a fumble and then gave got the touchdown. It
- 18:42Speaker 1: seemed after that that Stidham was was not quite right
- 18:45Speaker 1: after that, like he was scared. Obviously the conditions were
- 18:50Speaker 1: not great, but he looked like he was just not
- 18:53Speaker 1: confident throwing the ball. You know, he threw that other
- 18:56Speaker 1: interception on a ball that I was probably I don't
- 18:59Speaker 1: know if wind I mean knocked it down or just
- 19:02Speaker 1: just turd the pathway, but he threw it more to
- 19:07Speaker 1: the defensive back than he did to Gonzales than he
- 19:12Speaker 1: did to his receiver. It looked like he threw it
- 19:14Speaker 1: inside when it should have been outside the numbers to
- 19:17Speaker 1: the outside to give his receiver a shot. Now, maybe
- 19:19Speaker 1: he didn't get enough under it. Maybe it was what
- 19:21Speaker 1: I don't know, but the point is Stidham didn't look good,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and especially after that turnover that led to the May
- 19:30Speaker 1: six yard touchdown run that seemed to really get at
- 19:34Speaker 1: him mentally. And then of course in the second half
- 19:37Speaker 1: he had to deal with a lack what looked like
- 19:39Speaker 1: a lack of confidence, and then an inability of either
- 19:42Speaker 1: quarterback to be able to throw the ball consistently. I mean,
- 19:47Speaker 1: the biggest plays made in this game were either defensive plays,
- 19:51Speaker 1: sacks or runs by quarterbacks. Obviously, the Mims pass was huge,
- 19:55Speaker 1: but that was that was it. You know. I know
- 19:57Speaker 1: Hollins had a nice thirty one yarder that was a
- 19:59Speaker 1: good play, but really that was it for both teams.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I thought, you heard my show. I thought the Procos
- 20:10Speaker 1: were gonna win the game. Not knowing anything about the snow,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I thought Stidham would play okay, But let's because I thought.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I figured Sean Payton was going to make it comfortable
- 20:19Speaker 1: for him, and the first quarter he did, it just
- 20:22Speaker 1: got tougher. But let's let's be very honest. After watching
- 20:26Speaker 1: that game, there is no chance that Denver had even
- 20:31Speaker 1: they beaten the Patriots, We're going to beat the Seahawks team.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I don't believe it, not with Stidham now taking a
- 20:39Speaker 1: guy like Nick Foles. Nick Foles struggled in his first
- 20:43Speaker 1: playoff game in twenty seventeen for the Eagles, replacing Carson Wentz.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It was against Atlanta. They barely came. Everybody remembers that game.
- 20:52Speaker 1: They barely escaped with a win. They needed Julio Jones
- 20:55Speaker 1: to basically drop a pass in the end zone on
- 20:57Speaker 1: the final play for Atlanta to cement the in Foles
- 21:01Speaker 1: had a bad game. He had a ball that was
- 21:03Speaker 1: nearly picked off right before halftime that bounced off its
- 21:07Speaker 1: like tipped and then almost picked off by Kean O'Neil,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but then it was dropped or else. I think that
- 21:13Speaker 1: would have set up in Atlanta field goal if Neil
- 21:15Speaker 1: had not dropped an easy pick. So it was not
- 21:18Speaker 1: a good game for Nick Foles. And then of course
- 21:20Speaker 1: we know he exploded against Minnesota in the championship game
- 21:24Speaker 1: and the Super Bowl. He's MVP. We know all about that.
- 21:29Speaker 1: That that is not Stidham. I don't think it could
- 21:31Speaker 1: have been Stidham. He has not had nearly the same
- 21:34Speaker 1: amount of overall experience that Foles had when Foles took
- 21:39Speaker 1: over for once. I mean Foles had been a starter.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean he had been a start for the Eagles,
- 21:43Speaker 1: He'd been a starter for other teams before losing his
- 21:45Speaker 1: starting job. I mean, he had come into relief plenty
- 21:48Speaker 1: of times before. So there was no Foles magic for
- 21:53Speaker 1: Jarrett's that I know about the Foles tweet before that
- 21:55Speaker 1: about New England struggles in championship type games against back uarterbacks.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But even if the Broncos have figured out a way
- 22:03Speaker 1: to win that game. There's no shot in my mind
- 22:07Speaker 1: that the Broncos could have beaten the Seahawks team. This
- 22:11Speaker 1: Seahawks team is good, it's well rounded, and I think defensively, defensively,
- 22:17Speaker 1: they would have eaten stid him up. I really believe
- 22:19Speaker 1: that now. You know, as we look recap that game,
- 22:23Speaker 1: they gave up a lot of points to the Rams,
- 22:25Speaker 1: but some of it was you know, obviously you have
- 22:28Speaker 1: the taunting penalty that league gives the the second chance,
- 22:31Speaker 1: and then of course Stafford throws a touchdown to Nikua
- 22:34Speaker 1: right on the very next play, So that's seven right there.
- 22:39Speaker 1: The Seahawks weren't great against the Rams run game, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: Stafford obviously made some unbelievable throws that I just don't
- 22:47Speaker 1: think Stidham could make, so not consistently enough. So the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Seahawks defense is really good. And the reason why you
- 22:53Speaker 1: see sometimes high scoring games like that is because both
- 22:57Speaker 1: teams know each other. I mean, we won't find two
- 23:00Speaker 1: teams that know each other more than and playing each
- 23:03Speaker 1: other down to the wire as much as the Rams
- 23:06Speaker 1: and the Seahawks this year and even going back to
- 23:09Speaker 1: last year a little bit. So that's why I can
- 23:12Speaker 1: understand how the Seahawks, who have a great defense, still
- 23:16Speaker 1: gave up twenty seven points. However, the Rams were zero
- 23:21Speaker 1: for They were two for ten third and fourth down
- 23:24Speaker 1: one for eight third down, one for two on fourth down. Okay,
- 23:28Speaker 1: the Rams struggled situationally against the Seahawks, so it's not
- 23:34Speaker 1: like the Seahawks were completely loose defensively. You were going
- 23:38Speaker 1: up against Matthew Stafford, and Stafford is amazing. I really
- 23:43Speaker 1: hope Stafford is healthy and was healthy for this game.
- 23:48Speaker 1: We knew about the back injury going into the year
- 23:50Speaker 1: and never bothering him. Had that hand injury throughout the playoffs,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I don't I can't imagine it bothered him because he
- 23:55Speaker 1: was twenty two of thirty five for three seventy four
- 23:58Speaker 1: and three touchdowns. It didn't look like his throws were
- 24:01Speaker 1: off the mark that much unless he was under duress.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I hope Stafford comes back one more year, just because
- 24:08Speaker 1: I enjoy watching him play. I think he's already very
- 24:12Speaker 1: likely to be a Hall of Famer, But had he
- 24:14Speaker 1: made it to the super Bowl this year, or if
- 24:17Speaker 1: he makes it comes back next year, makes it deep.
- 24:20Speaker 1: He'll probably help his cause out with that. I think
- 24:23Speaker 1: that the Rams would beat the pay I think whoever
- 24:27Speaker 1: was going to win the Seattle LA game was going
- 24:29Speaker 1: to win the Super Bowl. I do believe that. I
- 24:33Speaker 1: think the Rams also would have been favorites. If the
- 24:36Speaker 1: Seahawks are five point favorites, the Rams probably would have
- 24:38Speaker 1: been right around that as well. And the Rams had
- 24:43Speaker 1: a chance to win. So here's where you go, and
- 24:48Speaker 1: you talk about fourth down again the Sea. The Rams
- 24:52Speaker 1: were down at one point. They were down by eleven
- 24:56Speaker 1: in the third after Bobo caught that touchdown all right,
- 25:00Speaker 1: which was right after the punt Okay, the punt fumble
- 25:05Speaker 1: that really killed them, it seemed, I mean, that was
- 25:08Speaker 1: such a I forgot to talk about this because I
- 25:11Speaker 1: always talk about this did last year a lot. You
- 25:14Speaker 1: will not find playoff games that are not somehow decided
- 25:19Speaker 1: by or heavily involved with something on special teams happening.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I just talked about New England Denver. New England wins
- 25:27Speaker 1: by three Denver Misster. The field goal, New England miss
- 25:29Speaker 1: two field goals. Okay, in this game, the muff punt
- 25:33Speaker 1: by Xavier Smith that put the ball deep in Rams
- 25:37Speaker 1: territory and then led to an excellent throw. Listen Stafford
- 25:41Speaker 1: was almost hit on that throw, but he makes a
- 25:43Speaker 1: really nice throw to Bobo for the seventeen yard touchdown.
- 25:47Speaker 1: They go up by eleven, and then you think this
- 25:50Speaker 1: is it. The Seahawks have just completely changed the complexion
- 25:54Speaker 1: of the game. Well no, because then Stafford goes right
- 25:56Speaker 1: down the field in four plays throws a touchdown Adams
- 26:00Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty. All right, But here's where Sam
- 26:03Speaker 1: Donald really became the Sam Donald that we're starting to see,
- 26:07Speaker 1: because now it's twenty four to twenty. Seahawks are holding
- 26:10Speaker 1: on to a four point lead, and they've got the
- 26:12Speaker 1: ball and they got to do something, and they go
- 26:15Speaker 1: right down the field and nine plays and it's not
- 26:19Speaker 1: just that they went down the field. There were some
- 26:21Speaker 1: really nice throws by Stafford. There was one on the
- 26:25Speaker 1: outside to Walker who did a really nice job. And
- 26:29Speaker 1: I give Klint Kubiak a lot of credit for getting
- 26:31Speaker 1: Walker involved in the passing game. They didn't have Sharbonney.
- 26:35Speaker 1: He's out, he can catch some passes. Walker's usually their
- 26:39Speaker 1: steamroll runner, but he's got moves and you saw on
- 26:41Speaker 1: a couple of passes and they clearly attack the edges
- 26:44Speaker 1: of the Rams defense. The Rams corners are their weakness.
- 26:48Speaker 1: You can attack them all right. Look what Smith and
- 26:52Speaker 1: Jiggbad did one hundred and fifty three yards on ten
- 26:54Speaker 1: ten carry, ten receptions, twelve targets. They went after the
- 26:59Speaker 1: outside and those corners and the flats, and they found
- 27:03Speaker 1: Walker on a big third down on that drive, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: then Cooper Cup with that pass over the middle on
- 27:10Speaker 1: third down, where I actually I was surprised because I
- 27:13Speaker 1: thought I thought he was gonna be short. I thought
- 27:16Speaker 1: he was short of the sticks, and if I'm not mistaken,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I thought that McVeigh took a time out there to
- 27:23Speaker 1: maybe have them take a look at it, and then
- 27:28Speaker 1: they decided not to, so that was confusing to me.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It was a twelve yard they wound up give him
- 27:35Speaker 1: twelve yards. I believe that was earlier in the drive,
- 27:37Speaker 1: the twelve yarder to Cooper, but there was another one
- 27:40Speaker 1: to Smith and Jigba for twelve yards, and obviously the
- 27:44Speaker 1: touchdown on third and three the Cup was a beautiful
- 27:48Speaker 1: play as well, and then that puts them up eleven.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Now they're still not out of the water, but that
- 27:54Speaker 1: put a whole lot. That was a great response to
- 27:58Speaker 1: the Rams. Prior the Rams go down the field in
- 28:01Speaker 1: four plays and score touchdown and say we don't care
- 28:03Speaker 1: about this double just deficit, when now we're right there
- 28:05Speaker 1: in it. And then Darnold takes the ball from his
- 28:10Speaker 1: own thirty five and he just works it down methodically
- 28:14Speaker 1: down to Cup twelve yards, right to Smith and jig
- 28:18Speaker 1: but twelve yards to Barner seven yards. That was a big,
- 28:21Speaker 1: big play too. And then of course the touchdown to
- 28:25Speaker 1: Cooper Cup for thirteen yards, all right, and then it's
- 28:27Speaker 1: thirty one to twenty and then what do the Rams do?
- 28:30Speaker 1: They go right back down the field. And then of
- 28:34Speaker 1: course we saw that on third and twelve incomplete Nakua
- 28:39Speaker 1: fifteen yard taunting penalty on Woolen. Now, look, I don't
- 28:42Speaker 1: like the penalty in general. I don't like taunting penalty
- 28:46Speaker 1: in general because the guys are just having fun. Taunting
- 28:50Speaker 1: is a part of the game, trash talk is are
- 28:52Speaker 1: part of any sport. I don't think it's over the
- 28:55Speaker 1: top too much when guys do these things. I think
- 28:58Speaker 1: the NFL is way too concerned about image in this regard,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and I honestly don't understand why. I think people like
- 29:05Speaker 1: a little bit of celebration. And now, by the way,
- 29:08Speaker 1: you're putting. I know on the next drive someone had
- 29:11Speaker 1: to sack someone sacks it was it Lake. Somebody sacked
- 29:17Speaker 1: Sam Darnold and like took a step away. It was
- 29:21Speaker 1: Kitchens right, Kitchens right, took a step away, started doing
- 29:24Speaker 1: a little dance. I didn't think it was a taunting penalty.
- 29:26Speaker 1: It was a celebration. But the entire Seattle crowd thought
- 29:29Speaker 1: it was a taunting penalty because they wanted just desserts.
- 29:33Speaker 1: They wanted it even it really wasn't taunting, but they
- 29:36Speaker 1: never thought that what William was doing was taunting. He was,
- 29:39Speaker 1: and this has been a rule that's been enforced and
- 29:42Speaker 1: cracked down on since week one. We've seen it and
- 29:46Speaker 1: you have to know it and you have to control yourself.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It would have been one thing if Willan maybe said
- 29:51Speaker 1: something to two and walked nakua and walked away. But
- 29:54Speaker 1: he went and then just the whole Seattle sideline. I mean,
- 29:59Speaker 1: he just basically asked for it, and in honestly, that's
- 30:03Speaker 1: on him, even though I don't like the rule, that's
- 30:06Speaker 1: on him. And of course you give Seattle, I'm sorry,
- 30:10Speaker 1: you give the Rams a second second opportunity, and Matthew
- 30:14Speaker 1: Stafford will burn you who can, Nicole will burn you
- 30:17Speaker 1: thirty four yards touchdown. So now it's a four point
- 30:21Speaker 1: game again. All right, Seattle has the punt, all right,
- 30:25Speaker 1: And now the Rams, it's the fourth quarter. They get
- 30:28Speaker 1: the ball and unbelievably, and this is why Stafford's great.
- 30:33Speaker 1: He's really Stafford is the best deep over thrower in
- 30:38Speaker 1: the National Football League and probably the best tight window
- 30:41Speaker 1: thrower in the National Football League. Some quarterbacks are just
- 30:45Speaker 1: excellent at certain types of throws. We talk about Jalen Hurts.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He is the best sideline deep ball thrower in the NFL.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But nobody I have not seen anybody. I'm including Mahomes,
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm including Lamar Burrow. Nobody throws the twenty to thirty
- 31:01Speaker 1: yard deep over, especially to a guy who only may
- 31:05Speaker 1: have a step or between the quarter corner and the safety,
- 31:08Speaker 1: better than Matthew Stafford. And all you know, he gets
- 31:12Speaker 1: the ball. It's the fourth quarter, and he does his
- 31:16Speaker 1: magic and the Rams ran the ball well. By the way,
- 31:20Speaker 1: you heard McVeigh criticize himself against Chicago for not running
- 31:23Speaker 1: the ball more, And I honestly didn't think that was
- 31:26Speaker 1: as much of an issue as people because you know,
- 31:30Speaker 1: the Rams ran the ball really well on the first
- 31:32Speaker 1: half of the Seahawks game, and what they have thirteen
- 31:34Speaker 1: points to show for it. I mean, when you see
- 31:37Speaker 1: what Stafford was able to do to a great Seahawks
- 31:39Speaker 1: defense through the air, especially on that last drive, I mean, yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 1: he hits Quorum on the side for fifteen, then he
- 31:47Speaker 1: hits Parkinson sixteen more. He probably wanted to kill Parkinson
- 31:52Speaker 1: earlier in the game on that fourth third down drop
- 31:54Speaker 1: that made him have to run for it on fourth down.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You don't ever want to see Matthew Stafford feel like
- 31:58Speaker 1: he has to run for it on fourth down. But
- 32:02Speaker 1: he did, and that took the pressure off of Parkinson.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But he just works the ball down the field and
- 32:09Speaker 1: then he gets to deep inside and then obviously the
- 32:14Speaker 1: territory for Seattle, and you know, tries to hit Mumfield
- 32:18Speaker 1: on third down. Think in the short right in the
- 32:21Speaker 1: end zone. There was a little pressure there. Man. It's
- 32:24Speaker 1: tough on third and fourth the Seattle six when you're
- 32:26Speaker 1: going for Mumfield. But I will give it to Stafford.
- 32:30Speaker 1: He is the wide receiver maker. I mean, guys like
- 32:32Speaker 1: Mumford and Xavier Smith and Jordan Winnington came up with
- 32:35Speaker 1: these huge catches because Stafford just knows how to get
- 32:39Speaker 1: them the football. So and then it's fourth and four
- 32:43Speaker 1: at the six. So I'm saying to myself here, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 1: I'm thinking about the Denver game where he didn't take
- 32:51Speaker 1: the points where I felt he should have in retrospect,
- 32:54Speaker 1: even though at the time I thought he should have
- 32:55Speaker 1: gone for it. And then I'm thinking, you know what,
- 32:58Speaker 1: take the points, make it through thirty one to thirty.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Make Sam Donald be the hero. Okay, make it thirty
- 33:06Speaker 1: one thirty. Make Sam Donald be the hero, because up
- 33:10Speaker 1: to that point, Sam Donald had not proven that he
- 33:14Speaker 1: can come through in that situation. Well, Jean McVay is
- 33:18Speaker 1: smarter than me, because he didn't take the points. He
- 33:21Speaker 1: felt like he needed to get the touchdown there. He
- 33:23Speaker 1: felt like the way his defense was playing, Donald was
- 33:27Speaker 1: probably going to do something. And you know, there was
- 33:30Speaker 1: no chance that even if Donald doesn't put it in
- 33:32Speaker 1: the end zone or make it to a field goal,
- 33:34Speaker 1: it's going to leave very little time left for the
- 33:36Speaker 1: Rams to get the ball. So obviously they go for
- 33:39Speaker 1: it incomplete to Ferguson and the Rams take over at
- 33:44Speaker 1: their own six. And then Sam Donald does his thing.
- 33:49Speaker 1: He hits Kenneth Walker for fifteen. There's a third and
- 33:52Speaker 1: seven he hits Cup. That's the play that I was
- 33:55Speaker 1: referring to, not the early one, the third and seven,
- 33:58Speaker 1: the cup for seven years yards. McVeigh takes the time out,
- 34:02Speaker 1: but then he doesn't have the play reviewed. I don't
- 34:05Speaker 1: understand that. I thought that Cup was short in that situation.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I thought he'd tried to lean the ball over the mark,
- 34:14Speaker 1: but that his butt hit the ground right before, or
- 34:17Speaker 1: at least could have it was worth a review. I mean,
- 34:20Speaker 1: when you got to lose at that point, I thought
- 34:22Speaker 1: it was worth a review. It was not reviewed. He
- 34:25Speaker 1: got the first down and then next thing you know,
- 34:30Speaker 1: it's another fresh set at first downs and then I
- 34:33Speaker 1: love the aggressiveness the second down call second and ten
- 34:37Speaker 1: at the thirty five for Darnold to play action pass
- 34:40Speaker 1: to Smith and Jigbo. He gets fourteen yards. Loved that,
- 34:44Speaker 1: Loved every second of that. You know, reminded me of
- 34:48Speaker 1: an Eagles game, not this past year, but Super Bowl year.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Forget who was against maybe Green Bay in the opener,
- 34:56Speaker 1: God is that long ago where they throw an eight
- 34:58Speaker 1: yard past a DeVante's deep in enemy territory to make
- 35:02Speaker 1: sure that they get the first down, the ice the clock.
- 35:04Speaker 1: They weren't just gonna run it, run and run it
- 35:06Speaker 1: and then punt or something of that nature, or kick
- 35:09Speaker 1: the field goal. They went for the jugular. I like
- 35:11Speaker 1: when teams have the confidence and the personnel to go
- 35:15Speaker 1: for the jugular in that situation. So the Seahawks did
- 35:18Speaker 1: credit to them. Did McVeigh have a bad game. I
- 35:22Speaker 1: think there's an no. I think there's an argument to
- 35:24Speaker 1: be made. Well, hey, let's let's go backwards. He did
- 35:28Speaker 1: the right thing going for it on fourth down, because
- 35:30Speaker 1: if you kicked the field goal, you would have lost
- 35:32Speaker 1: thirty one to thirty. Instead, they never got the ball back,
- 35:35Speaker 1: so you can't really criticize him for that the end
- 35:37Speaker 1: of the first half. Did they not take enough time
- 35:40Speaker 1: off the clock on that second quarter possession? It's fair,
- 35:46Speaker 1: it's fair. I mean, obviously the Seahawks were able to
- 35:50Speaker 1: get the ball and go right down the field very quickly,
- 35:54Speaker 1: and Darnold hit Smith and Jigba for fourteen yards and
- 35:58Speaker 1: a touchdown. They go up seven team thirteen, And you know,
- 36:02Speaker 1: it looks like then maybe the Rams didn't do such
- 36:05Speaker 1: a hot job of because the Rams basically had the
- 36:08Speaker 1: ball first and ten, there was like a minute and
- 36:10Speaker 1: a half left. They ran and then passed it twice,
- 36:12Speaker 1: and you're thinking, why are you passing it twice? You're
- 36:14Speaker 1: just if you punt, you left too much time on
- 36:16Speaker 1: the clock. Again, I have no issue with the mentality
- 36:21Speaker 1: that in a huge game like this that you're testing
- 36:25Speaker 1: Sam Arnold, and Sam Arnold beat you. It doesn't always happen.
- 36:29Speaker 1: And I honestly think that if we're looking if we're
- 36:32Speaker 1: looking for more of a blame. I don't think the
- 36:34Speaker 1: Rams defense. I think the corners were bad, but they've
- 36:37Speaker 1: been bad. I think the pass rush was not very
- 36:39Speaker 1: good Jared vers Fisk. I just think in general that
- 36:44Speaker 1: whole front. I know they lost Kobe Turner at some
- 36:49Speaker 1: point in the game and that stinks. You know, they
- 36:52Speaker 1: had three sacks. One came from Kitchens, they had one
- 36:55Speaker 1: from Fisk sort at the end of the game that
- 36:58Speaker 1: was you know, like he shot through unblocked. Even Tom
- 37:02Speaker 1: Brady said, I kind of like it when my blocking
- 37:05Speaker 1: scheme calls for blocking the defensive tackle, like getting one
- 37:08Speaker 1: person on him. But in general, three sacks not enough.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I didn't think it was enough pressure. I didn't think
- 37:13Speaker 1: there was enough hurries. This has been a Rams defense
- 37:16Speaker 1: that I thought did not play as well over the
- 37:18Speaker 1: last month of the season as it did in the
- 37:20Speaker 1: first ten to twelve weeks. I don't know why that is,
- 37:23Speaker 1: but if you're asking me what the bigger blame, I mean,
- 37:27Speaker 1: Seattle going for seven to thirteen on third down to me,
- 37:32Speaker 1: compared to the Rams going one for eight, I think
- 37:34Speaker 1: that's where the game was more lost than say, Sean
- 37:38Speaker 1: mcvay's clock management. I'm not telling you mcvay's clock management
- 37:41Speaker 1: was great there. I'm telling you if the thought process
- 37:45Speaker 1: was we'll be aggressive because we don't believe Sam Donald
- 37:49Speaker 1: is going to beat us. Do you know how many
- 37:51Speaker 1: coaches have said that, and most of them, most of
- 37:53Speaker 1: the time, have succeeded. It just so happens that Donald
- 37:57Speaker 1: really rose to the occasion and he played an unbelievable game.
- 38:01Speaker 1: He answered every test. And by the way, the Seahawks
- 38:04Speaker 1: still scored twenty seven points. You know, usually that's gonna
- 38:07Speaker 1: be usually score twenty seven against I'm sorry the Rams
- 38:10Speaker 1: score twenty seven. You scored twenty seven against the Seahawks.
- 38:13Speaker 1: You are going to win most of the time because
- 38:17Speaker 1: the defense is there. Bread and butter, but it is
- 38:20Speaker 1: not the case. They had their opportunities. Again, I think
- 38:23Speaker 1: the fumble punt gave the Seahawks basically a touchdown. It
- 38:30Speaker 1: didn't make it so that the Rams couldn't come back
- 38:33Speaker 1: and have a chance to win, but it gave them
- 38:36Speaker 1: a touchdown in a game that was decided by four points.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So if you're gonna ask me, what is the number,
- 38:43Speaker 1: you know, if I'm gonna rank culprits or responsibility for
- 38:46Speaker 1: the Rams losing or the Seahawks winning, that's number one
- 38:49Speaker 1: to me. Okay, number two would be Sam Darnold playing
- 38:52Speaker 1: out of his mind. You would probably I'd probably get
- 38:55Speaker 1: to four or five before I say bad game by
- 38:59Speaker 1: Sean mc me personally, that's just me. I don't think
- 39:02Speaker 1: his decisions were that bad, and I think he, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 1: obviously proved to be correct to go for going for
- 39:08Speaker 1: on fourth down late in the fourth quarter of that game.
- 39:12Speaker 1: So that is my recap of the two games. Very
- 39:15Speaker 1: exciting weekend. Should be a good super Bowl. I do
- 39:18Speaker 1: wonder how much the Super Bowl is going to be
- 39:22Speaker 1: compared to other Super Bowls. You know, everybody's gonna watch it,
- 39:25Speaker 1: but is the lead up going to be as dramatic,
- 39:28Speaker 1: are the storyline is going to be as juicy? Will
- 39:31Speaker 1: the overall viewership the ratings for this Super Bowl be
- 39:35Speaker 1: able to match some of the more you know, impressive
- 39:38Speaker 1: super Bowls, whether they're rematches like Eagles and Chiefs, or
- 39:43Speaker 1: you know, whether they feature somebody you know, like Joe Burrow,
- 39:47Speaker 1: you know in it, like the form the four when
- 39:48Speaker 1: the forty nine ers were in it. I'm sorry, when
- 39:49Speaker 1: the Bengals were in it. I don't know. I really
- 39:52Speaker 1: don't know, you know. I know a lot of people
- 39:54Speaker 1: will watch, but I don't know if it'll have I
- 39:56Speaker 1: don't know if it'll generate the same enthusiasm that the
- 40:01Speaker 1: Super Bowl typically generates.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 40:06Speaker 2: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,
- 40:09Speaker 2: having one less drink is never felt easier. Instead of
- 40:12Speaker 2: pouring a cocktail, I just reach for souls out of
- 40:15Speaker 2: office drinks. It's the same relaxing vibe, but zero alcohol,
- 40:20Speaker 2: zero hangover. I still wake up feeling like a functional adult.
- 40:23Speaker 2: I can get to the gym, I can do whatever
- 40:26Speaker 2: I have to do throughout the day without feeling worn
- 40:28Speaker 2: down or dragged down that.

- 41:13Speaker 1: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher and there's nothing more important to
- 41:16Speaker 1: me than peace of mind, especially when it comes to
- 41:19Speaker 1: the safety and security of my family. And that's why
- 41:22Speaker 1: my mind is at ease ever since I got the
- 41:25Speaker 1: simply Safe home security system in my house, because simply
- 41:28Speaker 1: Safe actually stops crimes before they happen, not after an
- 41:31Speaker 1: intruder has already entered. The thing about simply Safe is
- 41:34Speaker 1: it's easy to use, but it's still technologically advanced with
- 41:38Speaker 1: AI powered cameras outside the home to spot threats and
- 41:41Speaker 1: get an instant response from live agents. They talk to
- 41:44Speaker 1: them through the camera and let them know they're being
- 41:47Speaker 1: watched and police are on the way. There's no better
- 41:49Speaker 1: feeling when you're away, or sleeping, or just busy than
- 41:52Speaker 1: knowing that simply Safe is protecting your home. Get the
- 41:56Speaker 1: system that's been named best home security systems by US

- 42:04Speaker 1: system this month only. It is a great time to
- 42:07Speaker 1: upgrade the security that actually helps stop crime before it starts.

- 43:10Speaker 1: pros camedn Apothecary, Top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 43:15Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up. All right,
- 43:19Speaker 1: real quick, I'll just go through some Eagles stuff here. Obviously,
- 43:23Speaker 1: if you heard the Inside the Birds podcast on Monday morning,
- 43:26Speaker 1: you heard Adam specifically mention the fact that he had
- 43:29Speaker 1: heard that Decklan Doyle was likely to stay in Chicago,
- 43:34Speaker 1: and that was the case. We talked about Clayton Adams
- 43:36Speaker 1: getting blocked from the Eagles, So it's two guys they
- 43:40Speaker 1: were hoping for that they won't. But let's let me
- 43:44Speaker 1: just clear this up, because the Internet is so full
- 43:47Speaker 1: social media is so full of shit, to be honest
- 43:52Speaker 1: with you, and misleading information that it really bothers me
- 43:56Speaker 1: because you know what, the it's bad enough the Eagles
- 43:59Speaker 1: are going through this, right, I mean, you don't need
- 44:01Speaker 1: to kick someone when they're down with false information. I'm
- 44:04Speaker 1: not like an apologist for the team. Everybody knows that
- 44:06Speaker 1: I'm not cheerleader. But when I see headlines saying things
- 44:11Speaker 1: like Declan Doyle turns down Eagles to go back or
- 44:16Speaker 1: declines Eagles offered no, no, I'm sorry. Was there was
- 44:21Speaker 1: he offered the job, He was interviewed, It doesn't mean
- 44:25Speaker 1: he was offered the job. And you've seen this with
- 44:29Speaker 1: a couple of guys who have either decided not to
- 44:31Speaker 1: interview or didn't aren't taking the job. They're spurning the Eagles.
- 44:36Speaker 1: What do you mean spurning? Declan Dowy was no short
- 44:39Speaker 1: shot to be the Eagles offensive coordinator. I'm sure they
- 44:41Speaker 1: liked him, bright, mind, brilliant probably. I mean, the guy's
- 44:44Speaker 1: only been a position coacher coordinator for three years, two
- 44:47Speaker 1: years of tight end coach in Denver, one year of
- 44:49Speaker 1: non play calling OC in Chicago. Before that, he was
- 44:52Speaker 1: only a quality control assistant guy. So he's on a
- 44:54Speaker 1: very very meteoric rise, all right. And I actually thought
- 44:58Speaker 1: to myself, it probably would be smart of him to
- 45:01Speaker 1: stay in Chicago and continue to learn under Ben Jonson,
- 45:04Speaker 1: one of the best play callers and play designers in
- 45:07Speaker 1: the league, because he's still a fledgling coordinator and the
- 45:11Speaker 1: amount of scrutiny and pressure he would have faced working
- 45:14Speaker 1: with an entirely new offense here in Philadelphia, different quarterback,
- 45:17Speaker 1: different offensive line, different running scheme. They've the Eagles generally
- 45:21Speaker 1: run insideer and some outside, whereas the Bears will go
- 45:25Speaker 1: outside wide zone. I mean that just totally different everything.
- 45:28Speaker 1: There's no guarantee that this would have been a great
- 45:32Speaker 1: thing for Decklan Doyle's career, and there's no guarantee the
- 45:34Speaker 1: Eagles felt that he was their guy. So to to
- 45:37Speaker 1: say that he is spurning or rejecting the Eagle, that's
- 45:40Speaker 1: factually wrong. Unless somebody out there knows that he specifically
- 45:45Speaker 1: got an offer from the Eagles and turned it down
- 45:48Speaker 1: and said no thanks, then it's not it's not worth
- 45:52Speaker 1: talking about that. It's not it's not worth putting out
- 45:55Speaker 1: that kind of headline or misleading statement. That's just not true.
- 46:00Speaker 1: There's still some good play calls out there. It's non
- 46:03Speaker 1: ideal situation for the Eagles, that there are people who
- 46:06Speaker 1: have taken themselves out of the running, and that other
- 46:08Speaker 1: guys are still online for either head coaching jobs or
- 46:11Speaker 1: other offensive coordinator jobs. He saw Mike McDaniel officially agreed
- 46:15Speaker 1: to become Chargers offensive coordinator. All right, they did the
- 46:20Speaker 1: Eagles talk to Gerad Johnson, quarterbacks coach for the Texans.
- 46:23Speaker 1: They interviewed him two years ago before they hired Kellen Moore,
- 46:27Speaker 1: so as a guy they've clearly been interested in in
- 46:30Speaker 1: the past. Sounds Frank Smith is a guy that worked
- 46:33Speaker 1: under Mike McDaniel in Miami, so he's got that sort
- 46:38Speaker 1: of McDaniel play calling and play design background. So again,
- 46:42Speaker 1: the Eagles continue to look at a variety of different candidates.
- 46:46Speaker 1: That's the wise thing. Yeah, Charlie Weiss is going to
- 46:48Speaker 1: stay at LSU. I saw a line he rejected the
- 46:51Speaker 1: Eagles offer to stay in college, and it made it
- 46:54Speaker 1: seem like the Eagles are just a laughing stock. No,
- 46:56Speaker 1: he what offer again? Show me the offer that these
- 47:01Speaker 1: guys had. I don't know of any offer. I mean,
- 47:06Speaker 1: my gosh. To say that is just irresponsible journalism unless
- 47:10Speaker 1: you know that there was an offer, and if you
- 47:12Speaker 1: know that you should report it anyway. I'll get off
- 47:16Speaker 1: my soapbox. So, yeah, Frank Smith was the Dolphins offensive
- 47:20Speaker 1: coordinator under Mike McDaniel, so you would get a little
- 47:26Speaker 1: bit of that that offense is assuming if he would
- 47:29Speaker 1: be the guy that they were ultimately interested in. But
- 47:32Speaker 1: the search will go on and you know, we'll see
- 47:35Speaker 1: where it ends up, and you know, it may be great,
- 47:37Speaker 1: it may not be. I'm not going to sit here
- 47:39Speaker 1: in sugarcoat the whole process or say that this has
- 47:42Speaker 1: been ideal for the Eagles. But I just can't stand
- 47:45Speaker 1: intentionally misleading information like that that these guys turned down
- 47:50Speaker 1: the Eagles. No turning down everybody. If you're just going
- 47:54Speaker 1: going back to whoever you are, you're just basically deciding
- 47:56Speaker 1: I'm going to stay put unless there's an actual offer
- 47:59Speaker 1: on the table. Nobody got turned down for anything. All right,
- 48:03Speaker 1: I'll get off my soapbox. Now. It's been fun recapping
- 48:06Speaker 1: the conference championship games and again this coming weekend, which
- 48:11Speaker 1: it sounds like we're headed for another potential snowstorm nor
- 48:15Speaker 1: Eastern bomb cyclone, whatever, Oh boy, I deal with. All Right, everybody,
- 48:21Speaker 1: stay warm, get out of your ice, get out of
- 48:23Speaker 1: your snow the best you can, and again next weekend
- 48:26Speaker 1: I'll give my first initial thoughts on the Super Bowl
- 48:29Speaker 1: matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.
- 48:34Speaker 1: That's gonna do it for this Inside the Birds NFL
- 48:38Speaker 1: Conference Championship recap. Catch you on the next show.
