- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Everybody, Welcome to the second hour
- 0:19Speaker 1: of NFL now. Here in the NFL Los Angeles News
- 0:22Speaker 1: or in Patrick Clavon, here was Steve Wich. We saw
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Panthers introduced their new head coach, Frank Reck, the
- 0:26Speaker 1: same guy who threw the very first touchdown and franchise history. Yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean going offense again, you know, following up Matt
- 0:31Speaker 1: Rule with another offensive coach. The big question of Patrick
- 0:34Speaker 1: and hopefully when we find out a little later in
- 0:36Speaker 1: the show we talk to Frank Riich, it's what are
- 0:38Speaker 1: they going to do at quarterback draft? I think you
- 0:41Speaker 1: get Frank Frank another veteran quarterback to work with, and
- 0:43Speaker 1: we're gonna try. We're gonna get coach Wreck to answer
- 0:46Speaker 1: that question coming up this hour of NFL Now where
- 0:49Speaker 1: we're expecting to be able to talk to him, Steve
- 0:51Speaker 1: and myself, but they were able to meet him in
- 0:53Speaker 1: Charlotte today. Let's look back at his introductory news conference.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Of course, they celebrated the fact that Frank Reck was
- 1:00Speaker 1: the first quarterback, the first player to take a snap,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to throw a pass and throw a touchdown. Past. They
- 1:05Speaker 1: celebrated his career, of course, his legacy, the greatest comeback
- 1:09Speaker 1: in NFL postseason history, as well as everything he accomplished
- 1:14Speaker 1: in Charlotte, where his daughter is his family calls their hometown.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Here's the new head coach of the Carolina Parents. I
- 1:21Speaker 1: know there's more than one way to do it. It's
- 1:24Speaker 1: not a one man show. Um. So I'm not trying
- 1:29Speaker 1: to make it like it's a one man show. Uh.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I have very strong convictions about what I think it
- 1:34Speaker 1: takes to win, what I think it takes to build
- 1:36Speaker 1: a roster, what I think that vision looks like, how
- 1:39Speaker 1: we play as a team, what areas that we really
- 1:42Speaker 1: have to be good at in situational football, and then
- 1:45Speaker 1: how to be good at those areas. Um. But it's
- 1:48Speaker 1: a collective effort. It's a collective effort. So I hope
- 1:51Speaker 1: what came out there is that this is gonna be
- 1:55Speaker 1: about the team, the team of coaches, the team of
- 1:58Speaker 1: players that we build working as an organization. That excellence
- 2:02Speaker 1: is the standard. Consistency of excellence is what we've got
- 2:05Speaker 1: to have. That's ultimately what we're all looking for. We
- 2:08Speaker 1: want to be at the top. This is what I
- 2:10Speaker 1: heard from it. We want to be at the top,
- 2:12Speaker 1: not just every now and then, year in and year out.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So that's what we're striving for. And so the Panthers
- 2:18Speaker 1: first thing up the number nine overall pick in the
- 2:22Speaker 1: NFL Draft unless they make good trade considering what the
- 2:27Speaker 1: Bears have in terms of opportunity with that number one
- 2:29Speaker 1: overall pick in the mock drafts one point though Daniel
- 2:32Speaker 1: Jeremiah has c J. Stroud, Bucky Brooks has the Kentucky
- 2:36Speaker 1: quarterback Ruel Levis. Both quarterbacks there its to see what
- 2:40Speaker 1: coach Reich has in store for the Carolina Panthers. But
- 2:43Speaker 1: let's get down to Mobile where there's plenty of quarterbacks
- 2:45Speaker 1: on display, my girl Folo as well as Ian Ralph
- 2:48Speaker 1: report taking in the three recent Senior Bowl Hello joke, yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 1: Reese Senior Bowl. But nineties hip hop continues to play here, Patricks,
- 2:57Speaker 1: So all we can do is just find a way
- 2:58Speaker 1: to incorporate the lyrics into what we're talking about. So
- 3:01Speaker 1: you got poison going on over there right now, how
- 3:03Speaker 1: do you work that into Damiko Ryan's and the Houston
- 3:05Speaker 1: Texans completing their second interview, which I believe they termed
- 3:09Speaker 1: further discussions. We've completed further discussions. Do you make anything
- 3:12Speaker 1: out of that, the fact they didn't announce the hiring it. Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 1: there's some sort of a big button a smile line,
- 3:17Speaker 1: uh with you know, poison, So I would see there is.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So I would say Demiko Ryan's probably has a big
- 3:22Speaker 1: smile on his face. Now, with the Houston Texans completed
- 3:24Speaker 1: the second interview, all expectations are they will now move
- 3:27Speaker 1: forward and attempt to make him their next head coach.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Not final, it has not been final, but certainly that
- 3:32Speaker 1: is the expectation. Has been their top candidate for about
- 3:35Speaker 1: four or five days now, depending out what day it
- 3:37Speaker 1: is today, which I'm not really sure. I would expect Tuesday.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I would expect that to come to completion at some
- 3:42Speaker 1: point today, and if all goes well, he will be
- 3:44Speaker 1: their next head coach. A kind of higher that certainly
- 3:48Speaker 1: might could be celebrated in Houston. Oh, there's no question
- 3:50Speaker 1: about that. J. J. Watt was already celebrating with the
- 3:52Speaker 1: picture that he posted of the two of them. I
- 3:54Speaker 1: believe that was yesterday, which was Monday, by the way,
- 3:57Speaker 1: that comes before Tuesday. Um, So, yeah, that would be
- 4:00Speaker 1: something that would be celebrated and would be celebrated around
- 4:02Speaker 1: the league because a lot of folks think that Damiko
- 4:04Speaker 1: Ryan is a terrific head coach in waiting. Let's see
- 4:08Speaker 1: how long the waiting is before he is officially the
- 4:10Speaker 1: head coach of the Houston Texans. UH. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
- 4:14Speaker 1: they have a head coach looking for an offensive coordinator.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We reported yesterday that they were going to interview Todd Munkin,
- 4:19Speaker 1: the former Buccaneers offensive coordinator now potentially future Buccaneers offensive
- 4:24Speaker 1: coordinator currently at Georgia. That was completed today. Monkans also
- 4:28Speaker 1: UH interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens. Your thoughts on Monkin
- 4:31Speaker 1: who has thought highly around the league? Yeah, Todd highway
- 4:34Speaker 1: around the league. I know, also interviewed with the Baltimore Ravens.
- 4:37Speaker 1: The Bucks one, as we've known, it has been something
- 4:39Speaker 1: to keep an eye on. He was there, had a
- 4:41Speaker 1: really successful stint as the offensive coordinator there for the Bucks,
- 4:44Speaker 1: then went to college, killed it there to one I believe,
- 4:47Speaker 1: to national championships with the University of Georgia, and still
- 4:51Speaker 1: might stay at Georgia. I know that's something that he
- 4:53Speaker 1: is weighing right now. The timing is fascinating. It is
- 4:56Speaker 1: National signing Day tomorrow, since today is Tuesday and tomorrow's Wednesday,
- 5:01Speaker 1: national signing Day tomorrow. If he is going to stay,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it would be obviously huge win for the University of Georgia.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He is going to go, they will have to figure
- 5:09Speaker 1: some things out. The timing is really interesting and you
- 5:12Speaker 1: wonder would he make a decision today or might you
- 5:15Speaker 1: wait to you know, Thursday, after signing day to make
- 5:17Speaker 1: it official, which is the day after Wednesday. UH. The
- 5:20Speaker 1: Buccaneers up to about four or five interviews now at
- 5:23Speaker 1: this point. Shay Tyranny, the Giants quarterbacks coach. He is
- 5:26Speaker 1: up next. These interviews now occurring down here in Mobile.
- 5:29Speaker 1: UH face to face with Todd Bowles down here, let's
- 5:31Speaker 1: talk about a couple of quarterbacks. I want to start
- 5:33Speaker 1: with Joe Burrow Zach Taylor saying we can now turn
- 5:35Speaker 1: our attention out of their season is over, toward a
- 5:37Speaker 1: contract extension for Burrow. UH. One of the things that
- 5:40Speaker 1: Cincinnati likes to do is keep all the guaranteed money
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the first year, not guarantee anything beyond that. It's
- 5:45Speaker 1: really difficult to do because with quarterbacks, you're talking about
- 5:49Speaker 1: into the hundred plus million dollar range for for injury
- 5:53Speaker 1: and full guarantees. How do they go about doing this one? Well,
- 5:55Speaker 1: the Baals have had it as an organization and influx
- 5:57Speaker 1: of cash, naming rights to pay Course Stadium for the
- 6:00Speaker 1: first time ever, which fans have taken to calling it
- 6:02Speaker 1: pay Joe Stadium, which you know, if that was the
- 6:05Speaker 1: end results all of this, I think that would be fine.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I think everybody would be happy, including Joe Burrow, if
- 6:09Speaker 1: they ended up paying him. It is a business of
- 6:12Speaker 1: the Bengals that is in a really good spot. So
- 6:14Speaker 1: if you're ever going to sign a quarterback too long
- 6:16Speaker 1: term deal, that will be a massive potentially you know,
- 6:20Speaker 1: franchise altering, potentially the highest paid player in the NFL.
- 6:23Speaker 1: This is the time to do it. The structure is
- 6:25Speaker 1: going to be interesting and obviously that will be a
- 6:28Speaker 1: discussion going forward. You know, do we get to training
- 6:31Speaker 1: camp if they don't have a deal, does he take part?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Like there's a lot of questions, but the most important
- 6:35Speaker 1: thing now is at some point they're going to give
- 6:38Speaker 1: him a boatload of money and there's no questions that
- 6:41Speaker 1: he deserves it. Motown Philly playing right now. Bruck Party
- 6:44Speaker 1: in the forty nineers did a little east coast swing
- 6:46Speaker 1: that resulted in an elbow injury. Uh. The u c
- 6:49Speaker 1: L in his elbow was fully torn, as Tom Pala
- 6:52Speaker 1: Sero reported yesterday. Now he is exploring options. And my
- 6:56Speaker 1: understanding is there's three options. You could try to rehab
- 6:59Speaker 1: this thing without surgery. You could have a u c
- 7:02Speaker 1: L repair, which would not be the full blown Tommy
- 7:05Speaker 1: John surgery, which would be about a twelve month recovery. UH.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It seems like right now the number one option for
- 7:11Speaker 1: him is that one I talked about right in the middle,
- 7:13Speaker 1: which is a u c L repair. Hasn't been finalized yet.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Doctors are continuing to have discussions on this one with
- 7:18Speaker 1: Purty uh and with the forty Niners. And if he
- 7:21Speaker 1: does get a u c L repair, my understanding is
- 7:23Speaker 1: it's about three months before he's able to throw. There's
- 7:26Speaker 1: the horn, which means we gotta get out of here soon, uh,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and six months be ready for the start of training camp.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I don't believe the Niners are gonna look for a
- 7:33Speaker 1: veteran option. I think Brock Purty uh and Trey Lance
- 7:36Speaker 1: perhaps in a competition, and and Purty ready to go
- 7:38Speaker 1: for them. If everything goes well, they will not need
- 7:40Speaker 1: a veteran option. They can have Brock pretty come and
- 7:42Speaker 1: be their starter, tray Lance to be their backup. Continue
- 7:44Speaker 1: to develop him. See what happens. But as we know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: teams must protect themselves. You don't know if surgery is
- 7:51Speaker 1: going to go great. You hope, but we've seen it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I mean the Angelo example in uh in Indianapolis was
- 7:56Speaker 1: maybe the biggest. You have to be ready. We will
- 7:59Speaker 1: see what the forty Niners do. Do they sign a
- 8:01Speaker 1: veteran quarterback to make sure that they are okay? Check
- 8:04Speaker 1: this out, Patrick, See if this one move you boom doom.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I mean, that's why it's hard for me to find
- 8:10Speaker 1: a great journalistic excellence like you guys not driving me
- 8:13Speaker 1: out my mind. Grapp report mayk girl follow back here
- 8:21Speaker 1: on NFL now. The man who threw the first pass,
- 8:24Speaker 1: the first touchdown pass as well first step for the
- 8:27Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers Annalysis. The head coach Frank Bryce introduced today
- 8:32Speaker 1: in Charlotte and his new boss, David Tepper excited about
- 8:37Speaker 1: the opportunity. He's a man of incredible integrity, incredible family
- 8:42Speaker 1: man um a person that we could tell has great
- 8:47Speaker 1: process and a great way of doing things. UM. You
- 8:52Speaker 1: know that that basically has, you know, a guy that
- 8:55Speaker 1: basically checks all the boxes and a guy that you
- 8:58Speaker 1: really want to basically help build a culture and help
- 9:01Speaker 1: lead a team, UM, hopefully for the next few years
- 9:05Speaker 1: and beyond. UM. There's really nothing else for me to say.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm just gonna turn it over to you, Frank. We're
- 9:11Speaker 1: really excited about having you here and helping us to
- 9:14Speaker 1: build something great. And there is the tweet from the
- 9:18Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers account head coach right meeting uh plant to
- 9:22Speaker 1: as new players today, several available at the news conference.
- 9:26Speaker 1: A busy day for coach r and we're glad to
- 9:29Speaker 1: be able to say he sits down to join us.
- 9:31Speaker 1: UH Now from Charlotte coach, congratulations, we heard you talking
- 9:34Speaker 1: today about getting on the bus when the franchise started
- 9:38Speaker 1: to play games at Clemson, Your career, the franchise history,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's weave its way right back together. It really has.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's been full circle moment. Excited to get to work.
- 9:50Speaker 1: To listen, we know in the NFL it's all about
- 9:52Speaker 1: getting out on that field with the players, developing that relationship,
- 9:56Speaker 1: developing the schemes in each phase that you want to
- 9:58Speaker 1: develop to do some special So looking forward to getting
- 10:01Speaker 1: to work. Right, we just heard some opening remarks from
- 10:03Speaker 1: your owner, David Tepper, and just from all of your
- 10:06Speaker 1: experience coaching, playing, but especially before you accepted this job,
- 10:11Speaker 1: how important was it to you to know that you
- 10:14Speaker 1: were going to have the right relationship and the proper
- 10:16Speaker 1: support from ownership. It's a big deal, right, I mean,
- 10:22Speaker 1: at the end of I've been in this business for
- 10:24Speaker 1: thirty plus years as a player and coach, and and
- 10:26Speaker 1: I've just seen it over and over again. The relationships
- 10:29Speaker 1: have to be right. Um. Mr Tepper's commitment to excellence,
- 10:33Speaker 1: his commitment to bring championships to the Carolina UM. I
- 10:37Speaker 1: heard that loud and clear. Um. Looking forward to working
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, for and with him. You know, during the
- 10:42Speaker 1: interview process it was very dynamic conversation back and forth
- 10:46Speaker 1: with he and Scott Fitter. So looking forward to that
- 10:50Speaker 1: very much. In terms of the road ahead and looking forward.
- 10:53Speaker 1: What's the number one priority right now before you get
- 10:56Speaker 1: into everything else that goes involved. It's involved in getting
- 10:59Speaker 1: ready for an NFL season. I got to get the
- 11:02Speaker 1: staff hired. So that's really just jump on getting the stay.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I hired. That's a big deal, um. And then secondly
- 11:07Speaker 1: evaluating our roster, right, the roster that we're gonna have,
- 11:10Speaker 1: but also putting down laying down a blueprint for the
- 11:13Speaker 1: roster that we're gonna build and the team that we're
- 11:15Speaker 1: gonna build. So coaches and players are you know, obviously
- 11:19Speaker 1: central to that. So look forward to you know, really
- 11:21Speaker 1: getting down with Scott and Mr Tepper laying down that blueprint,
- 11:24Speaker 1: developing that plan and getting to work and to that point,
- 11:27Speaker 1: Frank and be kind of a perfect set segue. In
- 11:30Speaker 1: your news conference, you said you have a specific vision
- 11:33Speaker 1: for a quarterback. Um, you guys are selecting number nine.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Is that vision for you to maybe go young and
- 11:40Speaker 1: develop him? It's what you're trying to do as you
- 11:43Speaker 1: formulate this roster as well. Well. Ultimately we want stability
- 11:48Speaker 1: at quarterback, right, And so this is the NFL. You
- 11:52Speaker 1: can't predict every scenario that's going to happen. So you
- 11:55Speaker 1: know we have to have you know, Plan A plan
- 11:57Speaker 1: being Plan C. There's always got to be contingency plans.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And the good news is, you know that we'll have
- 12:02Speaker 1: a lot of experience as a staff, um, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: developing the kind of quarterback that we get, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: will narrow in with Scott, myself, Mr. Tepper, and the
- 12:10Speaker 1: staff and the scouts, you know, will narrow in on
- 12:13Speaker 1: who are the college guys we like, what would we
- 12:15Speaker 1: have to do to get one of those guys? Will
- 12:18Speaker 1: narrow in on who, and you know who as a
- 12:21Speaker 1: free agent could we get. All options are going to
- 12:23Speaker 1: be on the table. They have to be um, you know,
- 12:26Speaker 1: but we'll have a definite plan that we want to follow.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And you said on the lines of that plan earlier
- 12:30Speaker 1: today that the balance of power, he's gonna have decisions
- 12:33Speaker 1: over the fifty three. You're gonna have a decision on
- 12:35Speaker 1: who's active and inactive. Have you already had those discussions
- 12:38Speaker 1: with regards to potential disagreements throughout the draft process? Or
- 12:42Speaker 1: is that a bridge you cross when you get there.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I mean, this is the NFL, you know, you have
- 12:47Speaker 1: those all the time. I can tell with Scott though,
- 12:49Speaker 1: this is gonna be easy. Um, you know, we're gonna
- 12:52Speaker 1: have a great partnership. We're gonna push each other in
- 12:55Speaker 1: the right direction. Um. Yeah, we have a balance of power,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but it's really going to be a collaborative effort. It's
- 13:01Speaker 1: a collaborative effort. And you know, my experience in that
- 13:05Speaker 1: regard is you work so hard, you put so many
- 13:07Speaker 1: hours in, you talk about it so much, you come
- 13:10Speaker 1: to the you come to the same vision, even through
- 13:12Speaker 1: the arguments, through the disagreements. I would anticipate that will happen.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Right when you're putting everything together. Do you look at
- 13:19Speaker 1: the other teams in division because people tend to say
- 13:22Speaker 1: you have to win your division first, but the NFC
- 13:24Speaker 1: South is a division and transition. We're probably all four
- 13:27Speaker 1: teams doing making moves at quarterbacks. Or do you try
- 13:30Speaker 1: to focus more on the Carolina Panthers and look at
- 13:34Speaker 1: that stuff later? Yeah, great question. I always think the
- 13:38Speaker 1: answer to that question is not either or, it's both
- 13:40Speaker 1: and right, we're gonna We're gonna focus on the Carolina Panthers.
- 13:44Speaker 1: But you always have an eye on your competition. That's
- 13:47Speaker 1: just the way it works. So UM, we we have
- 13:50Speaker 1: to do that. We have to get to know our guys,
- 13:52Speaker 1: who we are, who we want to be. UM, But
- 13:55Speaker 1: you're obviously always at the same time keeping an eye
- 13:58Speaker 1: on your competition and keeping track of where we're going,
- 14:01Speaker 1: because that's where it does start. It starts with winning
- 14:04Speaker 1: in your divis first Panthers quarterback in the franchise history.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Are there any lessons that that edition of Frank Rich
- 14:11Speaker 1: is bringing to Carolina Panthers? Listen, every lesson is a
- 14:18Speaker 1: new addition, right, I mean, as player and as coach,
- 14:21Speaker 1: you're always learning and growing and getting better. So, um,
- 14:26Speaker 1: there was a unique perspective to be the first quarterback,
- 14:28Speaker 1: to see what a team looks like when it gets
- 14:30Speaker 1: to be built and work through that. So but I'm
- 14:33Speaker 1: looking forward to this version, this version of this team
- 14:37Speaker 1: this year in three very excited. Andy. We were showing
- 14:39Speaker 1: a video of you when you were playing. I mean,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you look good in the uniform. Coach. Uh, But let's
- 14:44Speaker 1: let's I want to spend a little bit towards the
- 14:46Speaker 1: upcoming Super Bowl because Nick Sirianni, the head coach in
- 14:50Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, so many you know really well. I mean
- 14:52Speaker 1: he coached with you. What has he done, what have
- 14:54Speaker 1: you seen in his growth and his ability, like you
- 14:58Speaker 1: said in your news conference today, with your team to
- 15:00Speaker 1: communicate with players and to kind of empower the players
- 15:04Speaker 1: to have some sets. Listen, Nick's arian He's one of
- 15:08Speaker 1: the best coaches, if not the best coach I've ever
- 15:10Speaker 1: been around. Um, he has great football acumen, his knowledge
- 15:15Speaker 1: of offensive football, his game planning ability, his ability to
- 15:18Speaker 1: teach fundamentals and technique is second to none. Um. But really,
- 15:23Speaker 1: where where you see the most growth is and you
- 15:25Speaker 1: knew it was always there is as a leader. This guy,
- 15:28Speaker 1: he's such a strong leader. He knows how to connect
- 15:31Speaker 1: with players. Um. You know, the success that he's having
- 15:34Speaker 1: is no surprise to me whatsoever. Um, He's done a
- 15:38Speaker 1: fantastic job. Uh, you know, I'm just I'm so it's
- 15:41Speaker 1: so fun to see the success that he is having.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And you get to be a part of that official
- 15:46Speaker 1: part of the Frank Right coaching tree. And you and
- 15:49Speaker 1: Doug of course had that success in Philadelphia, Doug plaguing
- 15:52Speaker 1: and coaching under Andy Reid. What's the most impressive thing
- 15:55Speaker 1: about what Coach Reid has been able to accomplish this persons?
- 16:00Speaker 1: You know, coach Ree and you know obviously the big
- 16:02Speaker 1: transition when no Tyree Hill, and you know, what's it
- 16:04Speaker 1: gonna look out? What's it gonna look like without the
- 16:07Speaker 1: most explosive player in the game. Um, and if they've
- 16:10Speaker 1: done a fantastic job, Coach read, I don't know there's
- 16:15Speaker 1: there's this problem that maybe never been a better leader.
- 16:17Speaker 1: His calm and his poise, his adaptability, you know, as
- 16:21Speaker 1: he continues to grow older, right, he's just continued to adapt,
- 16:26Speaker 1: stay on the cutting edge. Obviously, they have great players
- 16:29Speaker 1: and a great team. So testament to both of these coaches. Coach,
- 16:32Speaker 1: you know a lot of times Patients have preached, but
- 16:34Speaker 1: we're also in kind of this micro wave. We're all too,
- 16:38Speaker 1: especially with some offensive mind to coaches like yourself can
- 16:40Speaker 1: have success right away with football teams. Do you feel
- 16:44Speaker 1: that Patients is part of this or do you think, again,
- 16:47Speaker 1: coming into a division that's wide open um, that winning
- 16:51Speaker 1: right away is something that's part of the plan. Yeah,
- 16:56Speaker 1: great question Again, I'm going to go back to the
- 16:58Speaker 1: both and answer right. So we're going to feel a
- 17:01Speaker 1: sense of urgency. We want to win right now. Um,
- 17:04Speaker 1: but we all need to understand that there are no
- 17:07Speaker 1: quick fixes. You've got to take it one day at
- 17:10Speaker 1: a time, one player at a time, one detail at
- 17:12Speaker 1: a time. So we'll build a process. The good news
- 17:15Speaker 1: is that in today's NFL, you see it every year,
- 17:18Speaker 1: teams can flip the page very quickly, and so that'll
- 17:21Speaker 1: be our goal. Um, but we'll go about it by
- 17:24Speaker 1: doing it the right way, starting at the foundation, working
- 17:27Speaker 1: one by you know, one by one, player by player,
- 17:30Speaker 1: play by play, is the right approach. Well, coach, congratulations
- 17:33Speaker 1: again back in Carolina. Know your family essentially calls Charlotte
- 17:38Speaker 1: at their hometowns and congratulations to you and to them,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and good luck in building the staff and get Panthers
- 17:44Speaker 1: in order. Thank you, congrats coach, coach, the Carolina Panthers
- 17:49Speaker 1: joining us on NFL now, thank you to coach. And
- 17:52Speaker 1: we are still looking ahead too. Super Bowl fifty seven
- 17:56Speaker 1: Chiefs against the Eagles, and right now on NFL dot com,
- 17:59Speaker 1: Jeffrey Jadilla has an article outlining the six things that
- 18:03Speaker 1: could determine the out come of the Super Bowl and
- 18:06Speaker 1: jump looking here. The Chief's defense has to continue to deliver.
- 18:11Speaker 1: How do they do that well by doing the same
- 18:13Speaker 1: thing they've been doing the last couple of games in
- 18:15Speaker 1: the postseason, which is getting key turnovers like that Jacksonville
- 18:19Speaker 1: win in the Divisional round. They got two key turnovers
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, picked off Joe Burrow twice in
- 18:24Speaker 1: the Nancy Championship game. And this was not a unit
- 18:26Speaker 1: that was doing a lot of that in the regular season.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But but the bigger uh surprise here is just how
- 18:31Speaker 1: well these young players have been playing. At one point
- 18:34Speaker 1: against the Bengals, they had four rookie defensive backs out
- 18:36Speaker 1: there or rookie defensive end, but all those guys were
- 18:39Speaker 1: making plays in this game. As we've said before, they're
- 18:42Speaker 1: gonna see a diversified offense, a great run game from
- 18:45Speaker 1: the Eagles, a lot of weapons in the past game.
- 18:47Speaker 1: They have to be just as strong as they were
- 18:49Speaker 1: in the last two games. Steve, Yeah, they better be
- 18:52Speaker 1: ready to tackle because this is the best, not the
- 18:54Speaker 1: best statistical run game in the NFL, but certainly the
- 18:57Speaker 1: most diversified with all the guys who get touches here,
- 19:00Speaker 1: from Boston Scott to Miles Sander to gain Well and
- 19:03Speaker 1: the quarterback Jalen Hurts. And you know, it's really impressive
- 19:06Speaker 1: what they've done throughout the season. He got five two
- 19:08Speaker 1: of yard games in here, twelve games with over a
- 19:10Speaker 1: hundred thirty five yards rushing the best offensive line in
- 19:13Speaker 1: football to run behind. They know that they are going
- 19:16Speaker 1: to win this game by grinding it out. They know
- 19:19Speaker 1: that sets of everything they want to do with play
- 19:21Speaker 1: action and the deep shots, those receivers and again ball,
- 19:23Speaker 1: do you know that as much as we talk about
- 19:26Speaker 1: the quarterbacks here, these kind of games are always one
- 19:29Speaker 1: in the trenches. There really are, Jeff and you know
- 19:32Speaker 1: defensively here about good eyes, right, not getting tricked by
- 19:35Speaker 1: the r p O and things like that, and being disciplined.
- 19:38Speaker 1: So I mean, that's what the defensive players for the
- 19:40Speaker 1: Chiefs are gonna have to deal with. But you talk
- 19:42Speaker 1: about the run game, that's where Jalen Hurts comes in, right.
- 19:46Speaker 1: The threat of him running either on the bootleg, on
- 19:49Speaker 1: the draw or on the front side. A lot of
- 19:53Speaker 1: teams have to keep a spy on him or you've
- 19:55Speaker 1: got a you know, a rush to cover on a
- 19:57Speaker 1: running back. You've got things where it is read and
- 20:00Speaker 1: react instead of being aggressive. And that's where the Chiefs linebackers,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I mean only games. We know it's one of the
- 20:06Speaker 1: best athletes in the NFL and Nick Bolton he can
- 20:08Speaker 1: run too, But the Niners line linebackers might be able
- 20:11Speaker 1: to run better than the linebacker group in the NFL,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and they got caught sometimes behind that offensive line and
- 20:16Speaker 1: some of the gaming that they did up front. So
- 20:19Speaker 1: this run game, as you mentioned and put so much
- 20:21Speaker 1: stress on people. And it's so funny. Guys, you remember
- 20:23Speaker 1: this a couple of years ago. We're killing Jimmy g
- 20:26Speaker 1: and some of these quarterbacks for having a hundred fifty
- 20:28Speaker 1: yard passing games on the way to the Super Bowl.
- 20:31Speaker 1: You know, the Eagles have like back to back games
- 20:33Speaker 1: they're throwing it for under a hundred and sixty and
- 20:35Speaker 1: we're only talking about their running game because their quarterback
- 20:38Speaker 1: play with Jalen Hurts has been so sound. Yeah, I
- 20:42Speaker 1: haven't necessarily been in a situation where they need to
- 20:44Speaker 1: throw the ball a whole lot, specifically because of the
- 20:46Speaker 1: things we talked about. It's a mercy rule running yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: the last two weeks, especially considering their first playoff game.
- 20:52Speaker 1: More discussion on Super Bowl fifties seven, including uh the

- 21:36Speaker 1: one more thing here on NFL. Now A got Carmon Wild,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Jeffrey da and Brian Baldinger with me camp. What's here
- 21:42Speaker 1: one more thing? Yeah? One of the unique Pro Bowl
- 21:46Speaker 1: games this year is splash catch wire receivers and dbs
- 21:50Speaker 1: catching water balloons and increasing distances. Then they go to
- 21:53Speaker 1: the jug machine and test their hands there. So you
- 21:55Speaker 1: test your hands with care with the water balloon and
- 21:57Speaker 1: then with the jug machines after that, and that leads
- 22:00Speaker 1: into one of my favorite games, dodgeball. What's the dodge
- 22:03Speaker 1: ball saying if you can die to rich, you can
- 22:05Speaker 1: dodge a ball. No Rinchesness week, There plenty of fun
- 22:08Speaker 1: here in Vegas. Yes, players say priority no rins as Jeff,
- 22:11Speaker 1: what's there one more thing? Rod Jim horbought to stop
- 22:14Speaker 1: flirting with the NFL. He took some interviews. He said
- 22:17Speaker 1: he was staying at Michigan. Now he's taking another interview
- 22:19Speaker 1: with Denver owner Greg Penner. I need my Wolverines hole.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't want him leaving. So let's stop phone calls
- 22:27Speaker 1: always right, and that's always coach hardball. I want to
- 22:31Speaker 1: talk quarterbacks. We're all Senior Bowl at East West Rhyne Ball.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Everybody looking for a quarterback. Just look at what is
- 22:37Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl? Were here Pat Mahomes. When I
- 22:39Speaker 1: talked to Patrick before his draft, he said he thought
- 22:42Speaker 1: he'd be a second round pick. Well, Andrew Reid thought
- 22:44Speaker 1: more of him because of his leadership, his talent, and
- 22:48Speaker 1: his maturity. And for Jalen Hurts, theft pick in the
- 22:51Speaker 1: draft four years ago, I didn't hear anybody give him
- 22:53Speaker 1: a first round grade. But he's a first round when
- 22:55Speaker 1: it comes to leadership, maturity and just believing in himself.
- 22:59Speaker 1: So when we do our homework on these quarterbacks, look
- 23:02Speaker 1: at who's in the super Bowl, because they could tell
- 23:04Speaker 1: you a lot about what you want in your quarterback. Yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 1: plenty of franchises will be more than pleased to have you.
- 23:10Speaker 1: These quarterbacks, ever apart, and the Chiefs to get to
- 23:13Speaker 1: look at the next decade plus, uh, seeing one of
- 23:16Speaker 1: the best we've ever seen at the start of his
- 23:18Speaker 1: square m. One more thing involves with quarterbacks as well.
- 23:20Speaker 1: We talked to Frank right today. He was the first
- 23:23Speaker 1: quarterback ever for the Carolina Panthers for the first touchdown
- 23:26Speaker 1: past now he's the head coach. Is the first time
- 23:28Speaker 1: that's happened in the Super Bowl? Aeron Tom Florence is
- 23:30Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame. He did it. And also
- 23:32Speaker 1: I'm looking at our co worker and friend David carr
- 23:35Speaker 1: if Damiko. Ryan says that he doesn't want this Texas job.
- 23:39Speaker 1: To keep your phone on, David, because this is something
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's happened a few times since Fred Rack is the
- 23:43Speaker 1: fifth guy to have it happened. Thanks to you guys,
- 23:46Speaker 1: Thanks to everybody for watching here on NFL Now and
