Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #110 - What Happened to Shedeur Sanders was the Tim Tebow Effect
Transcript
- 0:00So Shadur Sanders fell to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft, fell to the 144th pick.
- 0:09This might be the best thing that could have possibly happened to him,
- 0:13but it could also turn out to the worst thing that could possibly have happened to him.
- 0:17And I would say that this reminds me of the Tim Tebow effect of the NFL.
- 0:23My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution. I'm going to dive into this topic.
- 0:28And this is probably a different perspective than you've even thought about.
- 0:31But over a decade ago, Tim Tebow came into the NFL and he was somebody came
- 0:37into a league that was kind of ready for him, but did not at all know or understand
- 0:43what was about to come upon them.
- 0:45Tim Tebow, if you remember, it was Tebow mania and it had to do with it came
- 0:51in and his fans were just diehard fans,
- 0:54and they really pushed the organizations that Tim Tebow came to and were just
- 1:00get him on the field, get him on the field constantly.
- 1:04And the people in the NFL, they don't like to be told what to do.
- 1:09And unless you're an owner, because everyone else in the organizations of the
- 1:13NFL, whatever team that you find yourself on, the only person that really owns the team is the owner.
- 1:21And people that are just GMs, coaches, whatever, they have a job and they want to protect their job.
- 1:29They have a very short time frame that they're guaranteed to even be on the team.
- 1:34So they are very conservative with who they want to put on the field and they
- 1:38want to be able to have players that they can kind of control,
- 1:42kind of control and people that aren't going to bring crazy attention to them
- 1:47and put them under the microscope.
- 1:50Tim Tebow did that exact thing to the teams that he came to.
- 1:54And what Shadou or Sanders, whether you like him or hate him,
- 1:58I don't see how you could hate him, but whether you like him or hate him,
- 2:01he has brought so much attention on himself that he has put a lot of teams in a bad spot,
- 2:08and that is the only thing that can make sense of what happened,
- 2:11because the player himself, I would not go the route of saying this has any racial undertones.
- 2:17This is not about race whatsoever.
- 2:20Skip Bayless, I saw that he had this take that was the only explanation that
- 2:25he could fall to where he fell was race. And that does not make sense at all to me.
- 2:31A majority of the people in the NFL are black.
- 2:35So I don't understand why that would have anything to do with it at all.
- 2:39It's about the coaches that are on these teams. They did not want to be put under such scrutiny.
- 2:46And the players that he would be influencing as he walked into a locker room,
- 2:51they're not going to play that.
- 2:53They don't care who your dad is. They don't care, you know, how much bravado you have.
- 2:58You got to perform on the field and that, but the only thing about Tim Tebow
- 3:03himself, when he was in the field, like in the NFL, he actually performed on
- 3:08the field. He played, he won games.
- 3:10You know, that that's the people don't like that. He won.
- 3:13He didn't do it as the most normal way of doing it as a just prototype quarterback, but he won.
- 3:22And so, Shadur Sanders, if he wants to follow in the steps of Tim Tebow, he's in good company.
- 3:29He's in good company in the sense that he is going to get attention.
- 3:33He is going to get crazy attention. So, I don't know if he wants to take it
- 3:36the way of just getting attention or if he wants to win games and have a deep
- 3:41impact in the NFL and have a long career.
- 3:44Tim Tebow's career was cut way too short, way too short.
- 3:49And so, I don't know. Now, I can't get inside Shadour's head,
- 3:53but I would say this could be an amazing thing that could have happened to him
- 3:57because this is going to humble him greatly.
- 3:59And he's not going to go to a team that is going to be putting a,
- 4:03they're not going to be under fire to get him on the field because he's a fifth round quarterback.
- 4:08So the Browns got an amazing, amazing deal out of this.
- 4:12And the only reason they got this deal was because the owner himself said, go out and grab him.
- 4:18Go out and grab him. We cannot let this go on any further.
- 4:21This guy, he should have been a first round draft pick.
- 4:25Tim Tebow was a first round draft pick. This guy should have been a first round draft pick.
- 4:29But it's the guys that are pulling the strings, the guys that are just cranking
- 4:34up and down the dials and all that kind of stuff.
- 4:36The people that are just down below that are making these decisions,
- 4:40they don't want to be on the hot seat.
- 4:41They want to have a secure job that they can actually go out and them determine
- 4:47whether they win or lose, they would be taking a huge gamble and taking Shadur.
- 4:55That's why it had to come from the owner. The owner had to say,
- 4:58step in and say, take this guy.
- 4:59This, because owners want people in the seats, people that like.
- 5:04That are going to draw eyes to their team, jersey sales, all that,
- 5:09because the eyes are going to be on the Browns this year because they got this steal of a draft pick.
- 5:15I cannot believe that he fell this far. This is insane.
- 5:18And there were so many different things that happened in the draft.
- 5:22And I would say this was the draft of Shadour Sanders because he was the talk.
- 5:27And every day, every draft pick that happened and he didn't get selected,
- 5:30it was a crime against football players.
- 5:35It had nothing to do with race, but it had to do a crime against these guys
- 5:39that are just pulling the strings that are in these organizations, these coaches.
- 5:43They want to have a steady, secure job. They don't want to take the chance of
- 5:48getting lightning in a bottle, which is Shadur Sanders.
- 5:51Shadur Sanders, he's going to bring heat. He's going to bring the spotlight.
- 5:55He would have brought prime time. And that's why, call me crazy if you like.
- 6:01I think, and I would have liked the Kansas City Chiefs to have snatched Shadour.
- 6:06I wish they would have grabbed him. And that seems blasphemous because of we
- 6:11got Patrick Mahomes. And I get that.
- 6:14But I want prime time. I want him in our locker room. That would, it would be fun.
- 6:20And Andy Reid, he is strong enough that he could keep the team together.
- 6:24Patrick Mahomes is the epitome of just saying the right things,
- 6:29doing the right things. He has the awareness that eclipses Tom Brady.
- 6:34Patrick Mahomes has the awareness that eclipses Tom Brady.
- 6:37So he would have been able to take, you know.
- 6:40Throw Shadour in there for some, you know, trick plays, you know,
- 6:44use him in maybe different positions, you know, as he gets his feet under him,
- 6:48as he starts learning the game and let him learn under Patrick Mahomes, you know,
- 6:52you know, he could be a player that could do just these crazy plays that Andrew
- 6:57could have thrown him in there.
- 6:59They could be throwing it out to the wide receiver and the wide receiver throwing
- 7:02it across the field. They would have, it would have been fun.
- 7:05It would have been absolutely fun. They should have grabbed him.
- 7:08I think the chief should have grabbed him. That might seem ludicrous,
- 7:10but it's not. It would have been the real deal and it would have been so fun.
- 7:14I, and I, I'm upset that he went to the Browns and I'm sure,
- 7:19I'm sure he's upset, you know, but this could be great for him.
- 7:22And then there was the whole prank call that just put the icing on the cake,
- 7:26you know, the cherry on top, which will go down, which those guys,
- 7:30man, that was, that was cold.
- 7:33That was so cold what they did and they, they got attention.
- 7:37They got attention for it. You know, it was just crazy.
- 7:41Could it have been another player? Could it have been another team that was just tricking them?
- 7:45But then the tape came out that these guys from Ole Miss, these looks like college
- 7:49students, just made him.
- 7:52Why do you got to rain on someone's parade that much? That was just,
- 7:55I thought that was way below the belt what they did.
- 7:58I don't think they thought they would have got through.
- 8:01They're making a call. They didn't think in their wildest dreams that Shadour,
- 8:05they would have got to him and
- 8:06actually have been able to have him on the phone and that that happened.
- 8:10Man, you opened up a whole can, you know, who knows what you,
- 8:13what you brought on yourself, somebody's doing that, but you know, be fearless.
- 8:17I mean, these guys, I guess they're fearless, you know, cause they put themselves
- 8:20in a terrible spot, you know, but I'd say be fearless, but that was uncalled for.
- 8:26That was way uncalled for what they did, but I would say this could be the best
- 8:29thing for Shadour cause this is going to humble him and where he's going.
- 8:33He could go off the deep end.
- 8:35If, if he does something that is crazy outlandish.
- 8:38He could go off the deep end and it could be terrible, but I think it could
- 8:41be, and it will be the best thing for him because he's going to go there and
- 8:44he's going to have to learn the ropes and not just go in with such arrogance.
- 8:50If he has, if he has arrogance, I don't know his heart.
- 8:53Dion, he's a man of faith. He's a man of faith. And I would say Shadur,
- 8:57learning from his father, they got to take the faith route, the faith route.
- 9:02You know, don't try to don't try to bring crazy
- 9:05attention to yourself unneeded attention you know go in there learn it but don't
- 9:10become just hum dumb just that doesn't bring fun to the game you know i like
- 9:17guys that are going to bring fun and bring eyes to the to your team you know it's not about just.
- 9:23Winning winning winning you know like win with fun and electricity you know
- 9:28and that's what Dewar Sanders, I think can do.
- 9:31And this will be the best thing that could have happened to him.
- 9:33But, all right, we'll leave it at that. Peace, everyone.
