- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, happy New Year from the chicken coop.
- 0:31We are out here and we are having a celebration breakfast
- 0:34with the chickens and they are so excited.
- 0:37They love to get pasta. So today is a pasta day because
- 0:40they are having a New Year's celebration right along with all
- 0:44of us. It's interesting though, because
- 0:46they were all celebrating and then all of a sudden they heard
- 0:50a noise and they became tentative.
- 0:52And it made me think about what we were talking about today,
- 0:55because, you know, it's the beginning of the year and
- 0:58everybody usually wants to go in all gung ho.
- 1:01Everybody's like, ah, we're, we're ready, let's go, we're
- 1:04going to crush it. And everybody has this.
- 1:06And then, you know, we, we all know it wanes over the course of
- 1:09the, the weeks coming. It's, it starts to fade.
- 1:12So how do you prevent that? What, what's the first thing
- 1:16that we do to prevent that from happening?
- 1:18And well, one, it's recognizing that it's going to happen.
- 1:22It's inevitable. There's nothing we can do about
- 1:24it. It will happen because we're
- 1:26humans. And the big thing is making sure
- 1:29that you're set up for it when it does happen and not getting
- 1:32mad at yourself. So for me, I am actually this
- 1:36year, not going in as the whole gung ho situation.
- 1:41I've been really working to be very, very steady, Eddie, and I
- 1:45love thinking of it that way because I can maintain things.
- 1:49The tortoise, you know, when you watch a tortoise walk, it's very
- 1:53dito dito. It's slow and steady and we all
- 1:57know the story of the tortoise and the hare.
- 1:59So I like to think of the first part of the new year now as
- 2:03well. I don't want to be a hare, I
- 2:05want to be a tortoise. I want to be continuing my
- 2:08process just where I was so I can stay steady and get done
- 2:14what I want to get done and not feel exhausted by the end of the
- 2:17month. So this means working on my
- 2:20schedule differently, booking clients differently, making sure
- 2:24that paperwork doesn't take over on me, making sure I'm doing
- 2:28more check INS throughout my week as opposed to just waiting
- 2:32until the end of the month. I I am a big believer of logging
- 2:37my wins every day, but I admit I got sloppy about that at the end
- 2:41of the year and I was just more intent on reading and studying,
- 2:47which was fine, I have no problem with that.
- 2:49But I know in order to feel really outstanding I have to do
- 2:53a combination of both. So it's this is all about
- 2:57looking at yourself and saying, how can I be a tortoise going
- 3:01into this year so that I can walk all the way through the end
- 3:04of the year strong? I don't have to come out.
- 3:07You know, one of my clients said, well, it's the year of the
- 3:09horse. And I'm like, yeah, I get it.
- 3:12But there are all different kinds of horses.
- 3:13There are the ones that can just do those short laps and win
- 3:17quickly. But then there are those quarter
- 3:19horses. Those are the work horses.
- 3:21Those are the ones that get the farms done.
- 3:23Those are the ones that make progress.
- 3:26And yeah, they're a big wins for those short runners.
- 3:29And I'm not saying you can't be a short runner, but think about
- 3:32it before you jump in and do it. Just really concentrate on that
- 3:36and saying, am I going to be, you know, the, the the tortoise
- 3:40and the quarter horse? Or am I about to go ahead and
- 3:43say, I'm just going to be that that sprinter right this minute?
- 3:48I'm going to be the hare and then I'm going to step back And
- 3:51it's OK to mix and match. That's the beautiful thing.
- 3:54It's like clothing. Mix and match.
- 3:55Do what you need to do. But remember, remember, this is
- 3:58this is all about how you decide to frame it.
- 4:02It's your perfect world. It's what you decide to do.
- 4:05So that's kind of how I'm going into it.
- 4:07Like I am about to go take my Christmas tree down.
- 4:10I've already started my year off by paying bills this morning,
- 4:14which was fun because I sat there and normally I'm like, oh,
- 4:17I got to pay bills and because I just hate doing paperwork.
- 4:20But I'm saying to myself, this year, no, I'm going to make
- 4:22paperwork my friend. Paperwork is my friend.
- 4:25And I'm going to find a way to do it more efficiently.
- 4:27And I'm not going to wait until I have tax time before I try to
- 4:31do it all. I'm setting it up.
- 4:33I'm being the tortoise. How can I approach this
- 4:36incrementally? Because that's what wins.
- 4:39So think about that. Where are your weak points?
- 4:43Where do you know this is going to show up?
- 4:45Another one for me will be OK. It's this time of the year.
- 4:48It means I just want to be outside all the time because
- 4:50there's no humidity And it's, you know, I mean, nothing's
- 4:54growing right now, but it's all about the prep and thinking
- 4:57about the prep. And so I'm, I normally I
- 5:00wouldn't start this for about another month, but I'm saying,
- 5:04Nope, I'm going to do it all through January.
- 5:06I'm going to do something outside every single day, even
- 5:10if it's only for 20 minutes. I am going to do something
- 5:13outside. I'm going to redo my chicken
- 5:17coop area. I'm going to redo where I'm
- 5:19putting my next flower garden. I'm going to do all of these
- 5:22little things ahead of time so that when the heat is on, I'm
- 5:26not overwhelmed with it and I'm not sitting there whining about
- 5:29it. Right down to thinking about,
- 5:32OK, well what do I even want to plant?
- 5:34Do I want to plant so many plants or do I want to plant
- 5:37ones that I can be really efficient with?
- 5:40It's all being observed. So that's the way to go into
- 5:44this new year from my perspective.
- 5:46What's yours? What are you going to decide to
- 5:48do? All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:50you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow and
- 5:54again, happy New Year.
