- 2:00Speaker 2: but I'm not. Now. This portion of the program is
- 2:03Speaker 2: brought to you by Superior Air Repair, and now Rusty
- 2:06Speaker 2: Burston is still here waiting. I charge you that the
- 2:12Speaker 2: next time we're together, the Rangers will have a big
- 2:15Speaker 2: lead in the Al West in four weeks.
- 2:19Speaker 5: I hope you're right.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think I'm right, but I don't know.
- 2:23Speaker 5: I mean, all year long, I've said this team's better
- 2:26Speaker 5: than what they're playing like, and so the injuries just
- 2:30Speaker 5: keep on getting very, very frustrated as they do. I
- 2:33Speaker 5: guess cam Coley's got the call up today. He had
- 2:36Speaker 5: a very interesting spring training and he's got a lot
- 2:39Speaker 5: of speed. He hits left. He's really really good, so
- 2:43Speaker 5: we'll see. I mean the sweep in Toronto was unexpect unexpected,
- 2:49Speaker 5: especially Saturday's game where we got Quantrill, yeah versus Dylan Cee.
- 2:55Speaker 2: He was amazing.
- 2:55Speaker 5: He was fantastic.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 5: And you know, an they're start.
- 2:59Speaker 2: They're setting.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Their history is going to be made tonight. Tyler Alexander.
- 3:03Speaker 2: There's never been a guy who's closed out back to back.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Games and then started.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I did not know that in the history base. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: did not realize that.
- 3:12Speaker 5: So interesting little nugget there.
- 3:14Speaker 2: So he's an opener.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Off, he's an opener. Yeah, and I don't know. I mean,
- 3:21Speaker 5: Rocker was fantastic, you know, he was. He was.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I know, he just drives to make crazy.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Yeah, me too, but he was fantastic in Toronto. And
- 3:31Speaker 5: I mean to six scoreless. I know, he was really
- 3:36Speaker 5: really good.
- 3:37Speaker 2: So you mentioned Alexander, and uh, today this is how bad,
- 3:45Speaker 2: this is how hard up they are for pitching.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I know you're going to talk about Chris Paddock.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, he has a six nine six e r forty
- 3:55Speaker 2: one earned runs and fifty three innings a one six
- 3:59Speaker 2: six whip over thirteen games and nine starts for the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Marlins and the Reds. His last appearance was June seventeenth,
- 4:09Speaker 2: so it's been almost two weeks. He pitched four to
- 4:14Speaker 2: third innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, a walk. Hey,
- 4:18Speaker 2: that's not bad. They probably take that tonight. Yeah, probably so,
- 4:22Speaker 2: because they have to get somebody that can pitch, like now, right,
- 4:27Speaker 2: I mean now, so he's probably going to pitch tonight.
- 4:30Speaker 2: As my guess, well, I don't know if he gets there.
- 4:34Speaker 5: He may They need somebody to throw some innings. Yes,
- 4:39Speaker 5: because it's just gotta do what you gotta do, right, Yes.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I'm thinking he's going to pitch tonight.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Wouldn't surprise me.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Uh so, you're you're I'm looking at this. The starters
- 4:57Speaker 2: haven't given up a run in nineteen innings since Toronto
- 5:02Speaker 2: had a three run to Homer on on Thursday.
- 5:07Speaker 5: That's the starters, right, and that was a six to
- 5:11Speaker 5: nothing game at the time.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Well, all the games were very similar.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Yep.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And how about this stat? I get I don't even believe.
- 5:19Speaker 5: This stat Okay, yes, yeah, crazy, They've scored first eight
- 5:26Speaker 5: games in a row.
- 5:28Speaker 2: They're six and two. They're thirty two and ten when
- 5:35Speaker 2: scoring in the first inning. Okay, yeah, but so before
- 5:41Speaker 2: May twenty six, they were last in the American League,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and I believe next to last in baseball or maybe last,
- 5:50Speaker 2: you'll you'll know this in giving up first inning runs.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they were last.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I think they were last and giving up first inning runs.
- 5:57Speaker 2: That's that's the end of March April at all. The
- 6:01Speaker 2: month of May their last. Now they're first in baseball
- 6:07Speaker 2: since May twenty six, in the last month, which is
- 6:10Speaker 2: why they have a record of seventeen and eleven, which
- 6:15Speaker 2: is the best record in the American League since twenty
- 6:18Speaker 2: nine since May twenty nine, and tied for third in
- 6:22Speaker 2: all of baseball. Uh, Miami is eighteen to nine, The
- 6:26Speaker 2: Dodgers and Phillies are eighteen to ten, and the Ragers
- 6:29Speaker 2: are seventeen and eleven.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Miami is a good, little young team, Yes they are.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I mean that series was not shocking to me. No,
- 6:39Speaker 5: there are some close games. Uh, but yeah, the Marlins are.
- 6:43Speaker 5: They're a good team, and they're young, and no one
- 6:46Speaker 5: knows about them because no one goes to their game
- 6:48Speaker 5: mighty yeah. But in theory, you know, you got this
- 6:53Speaker 5: series right here with the with the with the Indians.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I'm not gonna call them that other thing. You got
- 6:58Speaker 5: the Indians three, and they played well in Arlington. I mean,
- 7:02Speaker 5: the Rangers played well in Arlington two ou three earlier
- 7:06Speaker 5: this month. And then you got Detroit and the Angels
- 7:09Speaker 5: and it looks good, but the Angel swept.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Them, right, yeah, the last time we said it looked
- 7:14Speaker 2: good during that stretch. It's horrible.
- 7:15Speaker 5: You can't tell. I mean, you can't tell this team
- 7:18Speaker 5: plays better. But you know what, the Astros are the same.
- 7:20Speaker 5: You cannot tell. You're right, you know, you.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Can't tell anything about anybody in the Al West as
- 7:26Speaker 2: far as I'm concerned, right except for the Angels.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Well, because after the All Star break it gets tough.
- 7:32Speaker 5: I mean you have to Braves and the White Sox
- 7:34Speaker 5: and the Mariners, and if you haven't checked it out,
- 7:37Speaker 5: the White Sox are pretty darn good too.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So the Rangers have played forty seven road games, which
- 7:44Speaker 2: is the most in Major League Baseball in the first
- 7:47Speaker 2: half of the season. They have a home friendly schedule,
- 7:53Speaker 2: not necessarily by results and teams. As you were talking about, right,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but I think they play fifteen more games at home
- 8:03Speaker 2: than they do on the road in the second half
- 8:05Speaker 2: of the season, which is crazy.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Yeah, is that a home field advantage?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Though, No, I don't know that they do have a
- 8:12Speaker 2: home field advantage.
- 8:13Speaker 5: It seems like they have.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Let me see, I will tell you what they're what
- 8:16Speaker 2: their record at home is. They're nineteen and eighteen at
- 8:19Speaker 2: home at twenty three and twenty four on the road.
- 8:22Speaker 5: That's about a five hundred team, right, exactly, that's a
- 8:25Speaker 5: five hundred team. Well, you know they're Early on, it
- 8:31Speaker 5: seemed like they couldn't hit a home run at home,
- 8:33Speaker 5: and now that seems to have changed because both them
- 8:38Speaker 5: and their opponents are hitting home runs.
- 8:39Speaker 2: They have an eleven game home run streak.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah, but in all, it'son. All of them are hitting
- 8:45Speaker 5: home runs. The opponents are hitting home runs too.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah. But remember we talked earlier in the year that
- 8:52Speaker 2: they're looking into why the ball won't carry in Arlington,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and we both said, well, that carry is great for
- 8:58Speaker 2: the opposing team. Yeah, you're not out. Yeah, he never
- 9:02Speaker 2: has an issue. It's just the Rangers that have warning
- 9:06Speaker 2: track power. But now they're they're killing the ball. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 2: that's what it's so.
- 9:12Speaker 5: And that's why Langford's out, exactly why at Langford goes down,
- 9:16Speaker 5: and you know that's he was. He was hitting the
- 9:18Speaker 5: ball so well, he was hitting everything, yeah, and crushing pictures.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And Josh Young has cooled off. What you knew he
- 9:24Speaker 2: was going to do had he had that big w
- 9:28Speaker 2: he did. Then the the d f A, the guy
- 9:31Speaker 2: score the winter.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Runs and that you see that, Yes, I did, yeah, yes,
- 9:36Speaker 5: and Ross the pitcher what you called for, by the way,
- 9:39Speaker 5: after his first appearance last week, I did. Absolutely.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I'm glad you remember.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I remember I texted you both. Yeah, yeah, immediately. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 5: when you come in and walk to guys and get
- 9:57Speaker 5: behind and throw the one right down the heart of play,
- 10:00Speaker 5: it's just that's that's not good at all.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And Chock Peterson, where did he come from?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Man?
- 10:05Speaker 5: He has a kind of a habit, a good habit
- 10:09Speaker 5: of leading off the game with a home run. Streatney, Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 5: he is so streakd really streaky. But I think I
- 10:15Speaker 5: heard yesterday was his twelfth leadoff home run of his career.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Let me have that right here, second leadoff of the series,
- 10:25Speaker 2: third and twenty twenty six. He has twenty nine career
- 10:30Speaker 2: leadoff home runs, which ranks him ninth among active players
- 10:36Speaker 2: way off. He has ten home runs in the last
- 10:40Speaker 2: month with eighteen RBIs a nine to eighteen ops, which
- 10:45Speaker 2: is twelfth in the American League. So it's it's just
- 10:50Speaker 2: it's crazy.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Yeah, well we'll see. I mean, I bet you Colli
- 10:55Speaker 5: plays nine.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Do you know they're on the ESPN tonight? Yeah? Yeah,
- 10:59Speaker 2: Why are they on the ESPN against Cleveland?
- 11:01Speaker 5: Yeah? That was They do these games early in the
- 11:04Speaker 5: season or before.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I know that.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, they pick him out, So I don't know why.
- 11:10Speaker 5: But I mean last night, of course you had the
- 11:12Speaker 5: Yankees and Red Sox.
- 11:13Speaker 2: That was fun.
- 11:14Speaker 5: That was it was a great game. But to see
- 11:17Speaker 5: the Yankees and the Red Sox and National TV, he
- 11:19Speaker 5: just really surprises me.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I shot, that's a stunner. It's always the Yankees.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I was actually flipping back and forth between that and
- 11:29Speaker 2: high high Planes Drifter.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Uh huh.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And I actually ended up obviously settling on high planes Drifter.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I missed most of the exciting part, especially after Sunny
- 11:41Speaker 2: Grace no hitter got broken up in the eighth inning,
- 11:45Speaker 2: and he was great, he was he was just great.
- 11:48Speaker 2: He reminded me the Oakland days when he just and
- 11:51Speaker 2: in fairness, he's baffled a lot of teams over the years,
- 11:55Speaker 2: but I'd love to see his record against the Rangers.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it's pretty sensational. I would get one.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Of the reasons that Oakland has owned the Rangers for
- 12:03Speaker 2: it seems like ever. First of all, it was Reggie Jackson.
- 12:07Speaker 2: He owned the Rangers no matter which teav he was odd.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Even with the Orioles.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Oh he killed he killed Texas killed them. Uh. But
- 12:15Speaker 2: Sonny Gray. I mean it's like if you're if you
- 12:18Speaker 2: knew when they're playing Sonny Gray, you just put that
- 12:20Speaker 2: with an L and go on.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Yep, even this year. But he was great last night
- 12:25Speaker 5: because he Delta against them this year.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yes he did, Yes, he did at find Way.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Well, you know, it's the American League is so wide open.
- 12:37Speaker 5: It's just uh the parody, I guess for the lack
- 12:41Speaker 5: of dominance. Yeah, there's so many teams that could make
- 12:46Speaker 5: a run.
- 12:47Speaker 2: You know, the Yankees are banged up right now too.
- 12:49Speaker 2: They're pretty good when they're healthy, but they're not healthy right.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Uh.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It kind of makes you think about what if? You know,
- 12:58Speaker 2: what what if? Because it's gonna be a long while
- 13:01Speaker 2: since shack Lighter is back yep, right, and it's gonna
- 13:05Speaker 2: be a little haul for Wyatt Langford.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Jordan Montgomery is gonna be up to like four innings
- 13:12Speaker 5: very soon on his you know outings in the minor. Yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 5: and Cody Bradford is gonna be back after the All
- 13:19Speaker 5: Star break allegedly. I'll believe it when I see it. Yes,
- 13:23Speaker 5: I think, you know, I think Tampa Bay is really good. Yes,
- 13:29Speaker 5: I think the White Sox are surprisingly good. And other
- 13:33Speaker 5: than that, it's wide open.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, does it I don't want to bring
- 13:38Speaker 2: this up, but does it feel like twenty three? Uh no?
- 13:44Speaker 5: Because that team started, that Rangers team started so yes, but.
- 13:48Speaker 2: They got terrible, Yes they did. I mean they were
- 13:51Speaker 2: barely five hundred and in August and struggling and scuffling
- 13:55Speaker 2: into September.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they made and they.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Had all these young people they brought up that produced
- 14:02Speaker 2: Evan Carter for one, and who's I thinked out about
- 14:06Speaker 2: one point fifty. Him and Seeger are not hitting three
- 14:08Speaker 2: hundred between them combined. I mean that's close. I'm serious,
- 14:14Speaker 2: that's not much of an exaggeration.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Yeah, but that that twenty three team. Again, they started
- 14:21Speaker 5: so incredibly well that it wasn't until August that I
- 14:25Speaker 5: got really concerned with him.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Well that was also, wasn't that Bochie's first year. Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 2: so you're going, hey, they got a manager this year, right,
- 14:33Speaker 2: That's that's what I kept saying, is they got a
- 14:35Speaker 2: manager this year.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Well, and all they needed to do was win two
- 14:40Speaker 5: games in Seattle and they would have won the division
- 14:43Speaker 5: the last weekend, and they didn't do it. They didn't
- 14:46Speaker 5: do it, and then just like I predicted, they went
- 14:49Speaker 5: eleven oer.
- 14:50Speaker 2: On the road, Yeah, to win the World A cross
- 14:52Speaker 2: cross country right. Yeah, And that was bizarre, swept it
- 14:55Speaker 2: hold by the Astros.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Yes, swept at home by the Astros, but they swept
- 14:59Speaker 5: the Astro in Houston, correct. Uh. And that may have
- 15:02Speaker 5: been one of my all time joyous moments.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I agree with you that the World Series.
- 15:09Speaker 5: And in Houston and watching all those fans leave, yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 5: and watching all these Rangers fans and then watching the
- 15:15Speaker 5: Rangers take pictures on the Astros field. It just didn't
- 15:19Speaker 5: get any better than that. It was almost better than
- 15:20Speaker 5: the World Series. Not quite, but it was. It was
- 15:24Speaker 5: way up there in terms of me personally being there
- 15:27Speaker 5: that may have been. That's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, So, uh are you through with the Nolan Ryan
- 15:33Speaker 2: book yet? Are you reading it?
- 15:34Speaker 5: No, I haven't had a chance. I'm with my son's wedding.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Right. You had a wedding this week.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I've got I got some more time. I guess some downtown.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Normally joyous occasion that turned hot.
- 15:47Speaker 5: It was a joyous occasion. It was just uh, yeah,
- 15:50Speaker 5: I've got some sweatstoke or sweat soaked shirts that I
- 15:54Speaker 5: took to the cleaners to day. I was like, hey,
- 15:56Speaker 5: I apologize just in advance. Oh my gosh. It was
- 16:01Speaker 5: in Austin outside and it was hot.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 5: But there, it's all been done. I've got two down
- 16:09Speaker 5: and one to go on the on the wedding front.
- 16:11Speaker 2: There you go, and that this one hopefully didn't cost
- 16:15Speaker 2: you quite as much as the first one.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Certainly did not cost me as much, but the rehearsal costs.
- 16:21Speaker 5: The rehearsal dinner was still costs. Yes, yeah, yeah, it
- 16:24Speaker 5: was a really good meal. And I didn't choose the venue,
- 16:29Speaker 5: although I thought I should have. Yeah, I think you
- 16:31Speaker 5: probably should have had some second. Yeah, I wouldn't have
- 16:33Speaker 5: chosen the steakhouse. But anyway, that's either here nor there.
- 16:39Speaker 5: I I just paid the bill.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I was told by my friends early in the process
- 16:46Speaker 2: with my daughters, when I was bitching and moaning, shut
- 16:51Speaker 2: up and write the check.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Yes, that's exactly right. And that seemed to work, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 5: with with my first with my daughter one that is married,
- 17:03Speaker 5: I had a rent house that I sold and paid
- 17:06Speaker 5: for the wedding. Nice, and had a little lecture too.
- 17:09Speaker 2: So nice.
- 17:10Speaker 5: I don't know what I'm gonna do with the second daughter.
- 17:12Speaker 5: So she's not dating anybody, so I'm not here's what
- 17:18Speaker 5: you do.
- 17:18Speaker 2: We're saving Okay, I started to say, So my wife
- 17:22Speaker 2: started wedding fund.
- 17:23Speaker 5: My wife started working here. Yeah, she started working this
- 17:28Speaker 5: last year. Now she's not working right now because summer.
- 17:31Speaker 5: So she's actually got four year olds at a church.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Oh good gosh.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Well, so everything that she makes goes into an account
- 17:41Speaker 5: that we don't such very smart, it's just pure very
- 17:45Speaker 5: smart's wedding.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 5: And so so.
- 17:48Speaker 2: At our house, we have a vacation fund because my
- 17:51Speaker 2: daughter's have been buried for a while, so uh, and
- 17:54Speaker 2: we won't do that again. So I have a vacation
- 17:57Speaker 2: that's a vacation fund. Well, that's that's wonderful. You're about
- 18:01Speaker 2: to use it, I am, Yeah, I absolutely am. Yeah. Well,
- 18:06Speaker 2: you know we went to South Carolina. It was larger.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I probably wouldn't come back. Yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 5: We went to South Carolina a couple of weekends, Charleston, Charleston. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 5: and that was our case.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Never been. It was beautiful to go, really bad.
- 18:21Speaker 5: It was hot too, but it was wonderful, very historic.
- 18:24Speaker 5: And so I hope you ate good meals, fantastic girls
- 18:29Speaker 5: good and so what I used that fun was remember
- 18:32Speaker 5: I told you that I went ahead and bought the
- 18:35Speaker 5: flights to Miami just in case. And then yes, well
- 18:41Speaker 5: they didn't. Uh so I got a refund for the flights.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Now they didn't give me the refund that you give
- 18:46Speaker 5: me a credit.
- 18:47Speaker 2: See, I've got credits that are running out right now.
- 18:50Speaker 2: So I had to use the credit. So we went
- 18:51Speaker 2: to South Carolina. Okay. I was wondering why, because I
- 18:55Speaker 2: may come back and leave again. Because I think my
- 18:58Speaker 2: credits are running out.
- 19:00Speaker 5: I can got to use those credits.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I don't. Yeah, it's I'm throwing money away, I get it. Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 2: but technically I'm not throwing money away because even if
- 19:10Speaker 2: I use the credits and fly there free, I'm still
- 19:14Speaker 2: going to spend money wherever I am. Correct right now,
- 19:18Speaker 2: If I don't spend the amount of the credits, then yes,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I'm losing money. But whatever I spend, you know, that's
- 19:28Speaker 2: how I look at it, You're still losing.
- 19:30Speaker 5: When went South Carolina, though, we stayed with my sister,
- 19:32Speaker 5: So that's cheating.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I didn't pay for hotel. What's she doing in South Carolina?
- 19:37Speaker 5: Uh? Well, family, So my brother in law is in there,
- 19:43Speaker 5: and they're actually going to move back to Texas. Good wants.
- 19:46Speaker 5: My niece graduated from high school, okay, so she's got
- 19:49Speaker 5: she's about to be a senior in high school.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:52Speaker 5: So then my two nephews have already graduated from high school,
- 19:55Speaker 5: one in college, was just graduated from Clemson. And so
- 19:59Speaker 5: once they get all the kids out of high school,
- 20:03Speaker 5: then they're gonna move to Fort Worth.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Okay. Nice, Okay, nice.
- 20:07Speaker 5: That's always been the plan, all right. So that I
- 20:09Speaker 5: had to go see here because my son had gone
- 20:12Speaker 5: to see her at South Carolina game last year. Yes,
- 20:15Speaker 5: and they you know, and of course lost. Uh that
- 20:18Speaker 5: was two years ago, I guess. But and then so
- 20:22Speaker 5: my daughters had gone out there as a summer trip,
- 20:25Speaker 5: so my wife and I hadn't gone out there. So
- 20:27Speaker 5: we all went out there and had a great time.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Okay, well I got to get there. I've gotten closed. Yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 2: it's I think you love it. Ben to Savannah and
- 20:35Speaker 2: I've been right there on the right there on the beach. Yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 2: I know.
- 20:38Speaker 5: And I didn't do any fishing, but I'm sure you could.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Oh you can. There's no doubt about that.
- 20:43Speaker 5: I think I told you I love Fort Sumter.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's cool. First shots in the Civil War.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Are you watching Tom Hanks World War Two on the
- 20:52Speaker 2: History Channel? Okay? I can't recommend this one highly enough.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Is that right? Yeah? I'm about six n Do you
- 20:58Speaker 2: have Netflix? By chance? I do?
- 21:00Speaker 5: Okay, So have you seen the George Washington? It's three parts.
- 21:03Speaker 5: I have not seen George. Please watch that. My wife
- 21:06Speaker 5: have learned so much. Okay, we never knew about George Washington. Okay, good, Uh,
- 21:12Speaker 5: it's only three parts. And so have you watched Teddy
- 21:15Speaker 5: Roosevelt on that? But that's next?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Okay, awesome, So we'll we'll compare notes after I George Washington.
- 21:22Speaker 5: I highly advise you watch George Washington. I will do
- 21:27Speaker 5: that and I'll we'll start with the Tom Hanks and
- 21:29Speaker 5: that's on the History Channel.
- 21:30Speaker 2: It's on the History Channel. Okay, so you can set
- 21:33Speaker 2: out DVR and I'm sure they're replaying. You know, I've
- 21:37Speaker 2: actually missed I think the first couple when I started
- 21:40Speaker 2: into it.
- 21:40Speaker 5: But when the Rangers have an early game then.
- 21:43Speaker 2: See, So this is this is that we have to
- 21:45Speaker 2: have one more show Saturday nights.
- 21:47Speaker 5: There's nothing on TV right, so watching that like so
- 21:51Speaker 5: again tonight the game will be over by nine o'clock.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Have you seen the Martin Short documentary on Netflix? I
- 21:58Speaker 2: have not must watch. Okay, it is an absolute must see.
- 22:02Speaker 5: My wife, you're you're you're really making me a hero here, Yes,
- 22:06Speaker 5: because my wife's gonna love this.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Oh she will, she will? You don't. You don't even
- 22:11Speaker 2: have to be a fan of Martin Short to appreciate
- 22:14Speaker 2: that documentary. It's it's fantastic. So there you go. So
- 22:19Speaker 2: summer watching for you folks is while we're here, we're
- 22:22Speaker 2: gonna exact. You know, there's nothing on except for baseball, right,
- 22:25Speaker 2: and so we were trying to help you out here
- 22:28Speaker 2: a little bit. So one more Netflix Okay. I don't
- 22:33Speaker 2: know if you have any interest, but again, even if
- 22:37Speaker 2: you don't, to me, it's very interesting. It's rough an adult.
- 22:40Speaker 2: There's a four point part series on a Doll, a documentary, okay,
- 22:46Speaker 2: and it is absolutely terrific. So I tell you what
- 22:49Speaker 2: this one does. Again, even if you're not a tennis fan,
- 22:52Speaker 2: if you don't know anything about raffin a Doll, it
- 22:55Speaker 2: gets you in the mind of a world class athlete, right,
- 23:00Speaker 2: And it doesn't matter what sport it is. You see
- 23:03Speaker 2: this guy and you watch him and you see what
- 23:07Speaker 2: he did in order to get on the court, especially
- 23:10Speaker 2: later in his career when he was still winning, and
- 23:14Speaker 2: it will blow your mind. His body was just done right.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Well, you learned a lot of things on these documentaries,
- 23:23Speaker 5: like the Cowboys thing. Yes, you know. It was like
- 23:26Speaker 5: I'd never realized how much Aikman hated Barry Switzer. Yes,
- 23:29Speaker 5: I mean because he had committed to him. I mean
- 23:32Speaker 5: he played for in Oklahoma, right, and then just to
- 23:35Speaker 5: watch that documentary, he was like, Lord, you hated Barry Switchers, yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 5: or the Chicago Bulls.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Well, Barry was anti Troy. I mean, I'm from the
- 23:43Speaker 2: standpoint of personality of how he went about business, of
- 23:47Speaker 2: everything he did and everything that Jimmy was. He was
- 23:50Speaker 2: certainly anti Jimmy. I mean, Barry couldn't have been more opposite. Right,
- 23:54Speaker 2: even though they coached together at Oklahoma State. You see
- 23:57Speaker 2: picture of that Alklaoba State staff.
- 23:58Speaker 5: That's amazing.
- 23:59Speaker 2: It's like Jackie Sheryl and you just go down the list.
- 24:03Speaker 2: It's like the Iowa State coach, I mean the Iowa
- 24:06Speaker 2: coaching tree with Hayden Fry, right, it's pretty amazing. But
- 24:11Speaker 2: I digress. But Rafa Nadal will get you inside what
- 24:17Speaker 2: a world class and what it takes. And we always say, well,
- 24:22Speaker 2: and it's easy to say, well, you know, he just
- 24:24Speaker 2: has more talent than everybody else. You know, he has
- 24:27Speaker 2: more talent than most, there's no doubt. But what he
- 24:30Speaker 2: did with it, you don't win fourteen. French opens with
- 24:34Speaker 2: just walking on the court and thinking you're just going
- 24:37Speaker 2: to be on your c game that day. You can't
- 24:40Speaker 2: do it, And it was to me, it was just
- 24:43Speaker 2: and I always liked him. I loved watching him play
- 24:46Speaker 2: because he was kind of like Connor's right, they're both
- 24:50Speaker 2: left handed. They very different obviously types, but they left
- 24:56Speaker 2: every ounce they had on the court.
- 24:59Speaker 5: You know, one other documentary that we've talked about before
- 25:02Speaker 5: was that the eye opening one was Johnny Manziel. Yes,
- 25:05Speaker 5: I mean for him to admit that he never even
- 25:08Speaker 5: opened the playbook in Cleveland, right, I mean, are you
- 25:11Speaker 5: kidding me?
- 25:12Speaker 2: It's I mean, what are you thinking? Yeah, well you're
- 25:16Speaker 2: not yeah, or fair not in fairness, but you're not thinking.
- 25:21Speaker 5: I read a long, long article on Johnny one time
- 25:24Speaker 5: and they were interviewing his father.
- 25:27Speaker 2: No, I read, I know what you're talking about. Remember
- 25:29Speaker 2: about it. I don't know if I wasn't. I used
- 25:32Speaker 2: to do journalism, but athletic.
- 25:35Speaker 5: It was the athletic talk about, you know, Johnny's drinking
- 25:38Speaker 5: problem while Johnny's having drinks with him with the country
- 25:41Speaker 5: club exactly Johnny and Johnny's underage. And I'm like, there's
- 25:46Speaker 5: no parenting going on here.
- 25:47Speaker 2: No, not that, what is the deal? The grandfather was
- 25:51Speaker 2: the overall parent. But it just yeah, it was sad.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I mean, I will say this, and when you when
- 25:59Speaker 2: you start talking about people who have failed in life,
- 26:04Speaker 2: the vast majority of the men especially did not grow
- 26:08Speaker 2: up with fathers. They just it is, you know, I
- 26:12Speaker 2: don't know what the percentage is but it's really really high.
- 26:16Speaker 5: And Johnny grew up with a father but not but
- 26:18Speaker 5: not a father figure the way I understand it. Yeah,
- 26:22Speaker 5: and yeah, it's it's it's just because it makes you think, well, gosh,
- 26:26Speaker 5: how good?
- 26:26Speaker 2: How could could how could he? He could have would
- 26:30Speaker 2: have should have.
- 26:31Speaker 5: With some discipline here first from Kevin someone who allowed
- 26:35Speaker 5: him to do anything. Yeah, and then that set the
- 26:38Speaker 5: stage for Kenny Hill and Miney Hills failures.
- 26:42Speaker 2: You know, I don't. I don't. I can't go as
- 26:45Speaker 2: far back as high school, but or even junior high.
- 26:49Speaker 2: But you mentioned his father. But I'm I'm guessing he
- 26:53Speaker 2: got away with stuff at those levels too, right, I'm sure, Yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 2: because all really good athletes to get away with stuff.
- 27:01Speaker 2: And so that's why.
- 27:01Speaker 5: They wonder would he have had the freedom to run
- 27:06Speaker 5: offensively under Mike Sherman because he would not have been allowed.
- 27:10Speaker 2: To do what he did off the feed, probably wouldn't
- 27:12Speaker 2: have played.
- 27:13Speaker 5: He probably wouldn't have played under Mike Sherman because Mike
- 27:16Speaker 5: Sherman wouldn't tolerate that.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he was.
- 27:19Speaker 5: He was here right as freshman, He was here his
- 27:23Speaker 5: red shirt year. Yeah, so he was on that twenty
- 27:25Speaker 5: eleven team, they wasn't going to start. No, I think
- 27:29Speaker 5: Jamil Showers would have started under Mike Sherman. Yes, So
- 27:34Speaker 5: it's maybe it was best for him because I think
- 27:37Speaker 5: obviously the whole key there was Cliff Kingsbury. Absolutely, And
- 27:43Speaker 5: I remember when Johnny got arrested pre season.
- 27:46Speaker 2: They didn't have a lot of discipline in his own right,
- 27:48Speaker 2: Let's be honest about that. No, he didn't.
- 27:50Speaker 5: And I remember being at Needham Steed and Kingsbury was
- 27:54Speaker 5: working out, and this is right after Johnny got arrested,
- 27:57Speaker 5: prior to the twenty twelve season, and I was like, well,
- 27:59Speaker 5: is that it for Johnny?
- 28:01Speaker 2: And he looked at me like are you crazy? Crazy? Yeah, Like, no,
- 28:05Speaker 2: it's not it. Okay, we got games to win, Yeah,
- 28:09Speaker 2: no doubt.
- 28:10Speaker 5: And I don't care about Texas A and m I'm
- 28:12Speaker 5: not gonna wear your maroons out right right, he worked
- 28:17Speaker 5: his perfect storm for Johnny at that time.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 28:22Speaker 5: But man, when you see documentaries like that, you just
- 28:25Speaker 5: wonder what could have been?
- 28:27Speaker 2: How many have we seen like that though with athletes
- 28:29Speaker 2: throughout the year. Just athletes, I mean not You can
- 28:32Speaker 2: go to politicians, you go into any walk of life, right,
- 28:34Speaker 2: where people had everything and threw it all away. I mean,
- 28:38Speaker 2: that's an old, old story, right, but man, it's sure
- 28:41Speaker 2: happens a lot in athletics too. It was probably because
- 28:44Speaker 2: we cover it, right.
- 28:45Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but because we pay a lot more attention.
- 28:48Speaker 5: We pay more attention and it's public. I don't even
- 28:52Speaker 5: watch the news very much anymore because it's just so depressing.
- 28:55Speaker 5: You know.
- 28:56Speaker 2: It's like, I'm with you.
- 28:58Speaker 5: My son is all on every topic, you know, every
- 29:02Speaker 5: political thing.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Was like, that'll wear you out. It'll wear you out,
- 29:07Speaker 2: It'll wear you out, and I don't think it's real
- 29:10Speaker 2: good for mental health either personally. So either I think
- 29:14Speaker 2: you need to get away from that. I think it's better.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I think you need to listen to sports talk radio
- 29:19Speaker 2: where we don't talk about politics. Yeah, like because most
- 29:22Speaker 2: sports talk radio and televisions, yeah they are talking politics.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Yeah. Hey. Mean the only thing I know about the
- 29:30Speaker 5: news lately is they found a draft Gracey.
- 29:33Speaker 2: They found Gracy, but we haven't heard that Gracy is
- 29:36Speaker 2: back to its owners. They found what you look up, Gracy, Caleb.
- 29:40Speaker 2: They found Gracy at a ranch that didn't have any
- 29:45Speaker 2: road access.
- 29:46Speaker 5: They used.
- 29:46Speaker 2: The owner had to read a helicopter to find Gracey,
- 29:50Speaker 2: and they spotted Gracy. So when they say they found her,
- 29:54Speaker 2: they did, but they were in the process. There's a
- 29:58Speaker 2: lot he said. It's not as e as you think,
- 30:00Speaker 2: and he was being facetious to get a giraffe, right,
- 30:04Speaker 2: So they're gonna have to tranquilize it. They're gonna have
- 30:07Speaker 2: to get into where she was, which is a rugged
- 30:11Speaker 2: part of the state, right with no roads and a
- 30:15Speaker 2: ranch that apparently didn't have a house on it and
- 30:18Speaker 2: so no access. And they were still figuring all that
- 30:21Speaker 2: out as of yesterday or maybe late Saturday.
- 30:25Speaker 5: I have a book for you that you can pick
- 30:27Speaker 5: up before you go in Vocasees. I need One West
- 30:30Speaker 5: with Giraffes, true story about early nineteen hundreds, two diraffes
- 30:34Speaker 5: they transported from New York City. Yeah, to California, to
- 30:39Speaker 5: San Diego. Really, it's a great book.
- 30:43Speaker 2: What did you find, Caleb.
- 30:45Speaker 5: She has been returned to the ranch. Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Do we have any like any details of that.
- 30:52Speaker 7: No, it just says the county sheriff confirmed that they
- 30:54Speaker 7: loaded her onto a trailer.
- 30:56Speaker 8: This morning, loaded her on Yeah, was delivered safely to
- 30:59Speaker 8: the ranch this afternoon.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Beautiful. Okay. The story of Gracie is done, and it's
- 31:04Speaker 2: all happy. It's it's all, it's a happy Yes, she
- 31:08Speaker 2: will get killed by Mount Live this week.
- 31:10Speaker 5: No, no letter.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I don't want to hear her on your Thursday show.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I don't want to hear about on your Thursday show.

- 36:02Speaker 2: to you by in Tech Rusty Berson is here it
- 36:08Speaker 2: is summertime. Things kind of grind to a halt this
- 36:14Speaker 2: time every year. We're still a pretty good ways away
- 36:18Speaker 2: from football. The SEC takeover on the SEC network starts
- 36:27Speaker 2: Friday with Alabama. Two weeks after that, on a Friday
- 36:31Speaker 2: the seventeenth, will be time for the Aggies. They're going
- 36:36Speaker 2: to highlight and it's all day long, but they're highlighting
- 36:41Speaker 2: Rusty the National Championship run in volleyball that evening and
- 36:46Speaker 2: that morning they're replaying the baseball victory over Texas. Nice
- 36:54Speaker 2: not the nine hour when that didn't happen. They could
- 36:57Speaker 2: spend all day on that one, right, they could just
- 36:59Speaker 2: turn the tape on.
- 37:00Speaker 5: I was going to that game. I was sitting in
- 37:02Speaker 5: the park when that game got called.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Yeah that was frustrating.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that was that was terrible. Uh, that was a long,
- 37:11Speaker 2: long day. Yeah it was.
- 37:15Speaker 5: But uh, you know what, I'm glad that the guy
- 37:20Speaker 5: uh in Austin decided to come back. I'm I'm very
- 37:23Speaker 5: happy that No One Cane's back over here.
- 37:26Speaker 2: So that's right. Yeah, Uh recruiter extraordinary apparently.
- 37:31Speaker 5: Yeah, and the fact that it's not just that he's
- 37:34Speaker 5: a great recruiter, it's the fact that he left Texas
- 37:38Speaker 5: and left Schlosnaga to come here. I just that made
- 37:41Speaker 5: that's a warm feel good for me.
- 37:43Speaker 2: So I was thinking about the we we haven't talked,
- 37:47Speaker 2: but I was thinking about this when uh, Skip Johnson
- 37:52Speaker 2: won the national championship. Uh he coached with Aggie years ago.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And Schlasnagel has been there like nine times, which is
- 38:01Speaker 2: I think the Omaha Yeah, which is the second most,
- 38:05Speaker 2: maybe behind Mike Bartner, the third most behind the North
- 38:08Speaker 2: Carolina coach. I don't remember of anyone who has been
- 38:11Speaker 2: there without without winning a national championship. And you think
- 38:16Speaker 2: about you look at these guys that win, and Skip
- 38:20Speaker 2: Johnson's obviously very good at what he does, but you go,
- 38:23Speaker 2: Augie's got to be there. And not only is it Oklahoma, right,
- 38:28Speaker 2: it's somebody that had a history there with Oggie, and
- 38:30Speaker 2: it's like, bad, what do I have to do to win?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Because he was so close two years ago?
- 38:35Speaker 5: That is just the absolute epitome what we always talk
- 38:39Speaker 5: about in baseball. It's not the best team as a team,
- 38:41Speaker 5: who's playing the best in the postseason, right, So we
- 38:46Speaker 5: just talked about it with the Rangers. I mean, they
- 38:48Speaker 5: barely made the postseason, right, and they win the World Series.
- 38:51Speaker 5: In twenty twenty three, Oklahoma has a losing record in
- 38:55Speaker 5: SEC play.
- 38:55Speaker 2: They get and weren't headick.
- 38:56Speaker 5: They get bounced in the first game in Alabama and
- 39:02Speaker 5: they end up losing their first game of the regional
- 39:06Speaker 5: and then they just go on this amazing run. And
- 39:09Speaker 5: it was like, I was surprising to me that North
- 39:13Speaker 5: Carolina won a game, you know what I mean, the
- 39:16Speaker 5: way Oklahoma was playing, Yeah, I thought that they'd win
- 39:20Speaker 5: it into.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Well, I thought North Carolina's pitching was set up you
- 39:27Speaker 2: know better Knowklahomas. Yeah, and I thought they had the pitching,
- 39:31Speaker 2: you know, to win. And it's like now, when you're
- 39:34Speaker 2: hitting like that, and then this happens all the time,
- 39:39Speaker 2: especially you see it. You do see it a lot
- 39:41Speaker 2: in Omaha. Those Mercurion brothers turned into like, you know,
- 39:47Speaker 2: second copic of Bob Gibson and whoever would they get
- 39:52Speaker 2: to Omaha because they hadn't been great. I mean, they'd
- 39:55Speaker 2: been okay, but they had been great. It's like they've
- 39:58Speaker 2: become unhittable. The guys who haven't hit all year are
- 40:02Speaker 2: hit the ball four hundred and fifty feet. It's like,
- 40:04Speaker 2: who are these guys.
- 40:06Speaker 5: Well, it's kind of like last year in the World Series,
- 40:09Speaker 5: like Toronto. I mean, Toronto was so close to beating
- 40:13Speaker 5: my gosh, oh my gosh, and you look at Toronto
- 40:16Speaker 5: now and they're terrible, they're losing record, and the Rangers
- 40:21Speaker 5: did the same thing. Right, well, exactly right. But I
- 40:23Speaker 5: mean there's just no one year to the next.
- 40:26Speaker 2: You just never know.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Yeah, And so the key is you get into the postseason.
- 40:32Speaker 5: It's in baseball more than any other sport. You get
- 40:35Speaker 5: into the postseason and you hope you're playing well, hopefully
- 40:38Speaker 5: you're healthy. Yes, and if you get that hot streak
- 40:42Speaker 5: in the postseason, Oklahoma's proof that anybody can win it.
- 40:46Speaker 2: So I was having this conversation the other day with
- 40:49Speaker 2: somebody who played, and it's like, how do you explain
- 40:54Speaker 2: in baseball how hitting and pitching can be contagious. It's like,
- 41:01Speaker 2: and not hitting is contagious, and not pitching its contagious.
- 41:05Speaker 2: But it's we always say it's such a different game
- 41:09Speaker 2: and hitting is so hard, how can it be contagious?
- 41:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 41:12Speaker 2: Right, it's batter to batter and you're facing a guy
- 41:18Speaker 2: and you're going man, especially when you're not hitting, and
- 41:22Speaker 2: then all of a sudden you start hitting.
- 41:25Speaker 5: You know, I think a lot of it has to
- 41:26Speaker 5: do with when guys ahead of you start hitting the
- 41:30Speaker 5: ball really, really well. You don't go up to the
- 41:33Speaker 5: plate thinking it's up to me. So if you've got
- 41:37Speaker 5: three guys who have just homeerd right in front of you,
- 41:40Speaker 5: it'd be nice to hit a fourth home run. But
- 41:42Speaker 5: I'm gonna go up there far more relaxed because it's
- 41:45Speaker 5: three nothing early and I don't have to produce here.
- 41:50Speaker 5: And I think a lot of it has to do
- 41:51Speaker 5: with the amount of pressure you take off yourself, or
- 41:54Speaker 5: the amount of pressure you put on yourself. And then
- 41:56Speaker 5: I think, you know, when everybody around you is failing,
- 41:59Speaker 5: then you got to go up there with like, oh
- 42:01Speaker 5: my gosh, I've got to do I've got to do
- 42:03Speaker 5: it right.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Now, right, Which is the worst thing you can do
- 42:06Speaker 2: in baseball, exactly yes, just try too hard, exactly right.
- 42:11Speaker 5: If I could get over that, I'd be a pretty
- 42:13Speaker 5: good golfer. Quit trying too hard, Rusty, I don't know
- 42:17Speaker 5: how that is.
- 42:17Speaker 3: That why?
- 42:19Speaker 2: And I used to play the way by the director
- 42:21Speaker 2: of Golf is laughing, not now. I was always terrible,
- 42:24Speaker 2: But I used to play a little bit, and you
- 42:28Speaker 2: could you could go warm up or go to the range,
- 42:30Speaker 2: and you're just I'm just hitting the ball. I remember
- 42:34Speaker 2: one particular time or play with a group of friends
- 42:36Speaker 2: and I go, we're at a pretty nice country club actually,
- 42:40Speaker 2: which I never do, but I am striping the ball.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I'm going, where is this coming from? And I'm just
- 42:46Speaker 2: hitting irons and I'm just going, man, this is crazy
- 42:52Speaker 2: step on the first tee and it's just like normal again.
- 42:55Speaker 2: It says I can't hit the ball straight or long
- 42:58Speaker 2: to save my life.
- 42:59Speaker 5: It's such a mental game.
- 43:01Speaker 2: It is like no one's trying to hit you.
- 43:04Speaker 5: The ball's not moving. The whole game is between your ears,
- 43:09Speaker 5: and it's I cannot tell you how many times I've
- 43:12Speaker 5: played a great hole and just hit the ball beautifully
- 43:16Speaker 5: off the tee box pro.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I think everybody's said that, because that's what makes them
- 43:21Speaker 2: come back to the next back next week.
- 43:23Speaker 5: And then did some little element in my mind said, well,
- 43:26Speaker 5: if you know, I really wasn't president at all that time,
- 43:29Speaker 5: so imagine what I could do if I try.
- 43:32Speaker 2: To hit it a little harder exactly, or it's just
- 43:36Speaker 2: such a well. Back when I was playing, i'd watch
- 43:38Speaker 2: them on TV and I watched a tournament and I go, man,
- 43:42Speaker 2: that swing is so smooth, it's so easy, it's it
- 43:47Speaker 2: looks so good. And so you get all pumped up
- 43:50Speaker 2: and you go out there and this time it wouldn't
- 43:52Speaker 2: matter was that the range or you were playing around
- 43:55Speaker 2: and it was just like, well, I just saw them
- 43:58Speaker 2: do this.
- 44:00Speaker 5: But speaking of golfers, have you seen if you followed
- 44:03Speaker 5: Phil Michelson.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Okay, so I didn't know if I was going to
- 44:06Speaker 2: bring this up. I'll tell you what. We're going to
- 44:07Speaker 2: take a break, we'll come back. Let's talk about not pretty.
- 44:11Speaker 5: Not pretty.

- 45:32Speaker 7: to two. Jock Peterson started off the scoring with his
- 45:35Speaker 7: second leadoff home run of the series in the sixth
- 45:39Speaker 7: The Rangers earned another run off an Elius Diaz RBI single,
- 45:43Speaker 7: but Toronto tied it with a home run in the
- 45:46Speaker 7: eighth inning. Luckily for Texas, they were the benefactors of
- 45:50Speaker 7: a wild pitch, using it to get a game winning run.

- 47:08Speaker 2: It's Monday Hour with Rusty Burson is brought to you
- 47:10Speaker 2: by Intech. We thank you for being with us. Tomorrow,
- 47:14Speaker 2: Jared and Jason will be sitting in. In fact, tomorrow,
- 47:17Speaker 2: Wednesday and Thursday, they will be sitting in. I'm just
- 47:22Speaker 2: gonna guess this is a wild guest. Jared's going to
- 47:26Speaker 2: talk a little bit about the World Cup. On Friday,
- 47:29Speaker 2: is the third There's no show on Friday, and various
- 47:37Speaker 2: guest hosts will be in the next few weeks. We
- 47:41Speaker 2: mentioned Phil Mickelson and this story came out by Alan Shipnak,
- 47:46Speaker 2: who I've had on the show a couple of times.
- 47:49Speaker 2: He wrote a widely publicized biography called Phil and that
- 47:55Speaker 2: was during the gambling situation. He had a bunch of
- 47:59Speaker 2: information on the gambling situation. As a result of that,
- 48:04Speaker 2: the Phil fans have said, this guy hasn't been detta.
- 48:07Speaker 2: He's out to get Phil. Shipnuk, for his part, says,
- 48:12Speaker 2: I've never worked as hard and vetted his story as
- 48:14Speaker 2: much in my life. Before this was published, we went
- 48:17Speaker 2: through attorneys, I went through editors. I wanted to make
- 48:20Speaker 2: sure that everything I had well. One of the stories
- 48:23Speaker 2: has been corroborated. And that's the story with Phil making
- 48:29Speaker 2: an advance toward Pat Perez, another fellow pro golfer's wife,
- 48:36Speaker 2: and this incident happened eleven years ago in twenty fifteen.
- 48:41Speaker 5: This is when both of us were married.
- 48:42Speaker 2: They were both married. Phil still married as far as
- 48:45Speaker 2: we know.
- 48:45Speaker 5: As far as we know, I don't know how it's
- 48:47Speaker 5: to be.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Pat Perez is not married anymore to Ashley Perez, but
- 48:52Speaker 2: according to Ashley, Mickelson had reached out prior to the
- 48:56Speaker 2: Barclays Championship and suggested she and Pat's at his villa
- 49:02Speaker 2: at the Liberty National Golf Club, and then after dinner
- 49:05Speaker 2: one night, where there were drinks, he made unwanted sexual advances.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I won't go into all the gory details it was
- 49:17Speaker 2: there was a picture involved. Michelson apologized apparently twice to
- 49:23Speaker 2: Pat Perez, once in person and once on a lengthy
- 49:28Speaker 2: phone call that Ashley Perez recorded and allowed SHIPNK to
- 49:34Speaker 2: listen in order to corroborate the story. So that's just
- 49:42Speaker 2: one incident. We know that when in the last couple
- 49:46Speaker 2: of months he was banished as a member from a
- 49:52Speaker 2: long time club in Rancho Mirage, near where he lived
- 49:58Speaker 2: for a similar sexual advance with an employee at the
- 50:06Speaker 2: golf club.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Okay, and this is the same club where he was
- 50:11Speaker 5: paying somebody to.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Ride around a golf according to this story about Shipknuck.
- 50:17Speaker 5: With a cell phone because his wife was tracing the cell.
- 50:20Speaker 2: His wife was monitoring the cell phone. And he paid
- 50:23Speaker 2: members at the club. Former club, not this club, a
- 50:27Speaker 2: different club he got kicked out of, I believe. According
- 50:31Speaker 2: to Shipnuck, this is the third time he's been asked
- 50:35Speaker 2: to leave.
- 50:35Speaker 5: A club he paid employees.
- 50:38Speaker 2: He paid the employees of the club the golf attendance,
- 50:41Speaker 2: I think, telling them, hey, I'll catch up with you
- 50:44Speaker 2: on the night toll and putting his cell phone in
- 50:47Speaker 2: a bag on the cart so as his wife is
- 50:51Speaker 2: monitoring that, it's showing that he's playing a round of
- 50:54Speaker 2: golf when he was back at the place with a woman.
- 50:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:01Speaker 2: So he spent years cultivating this persona a persona, the
- 51:11Speaker 2: family man, the family man everyone loved, signed every autograph,
- 51:18Speaker 2: did every interview, and made a fortune, a fortune a
- 51:27Speaker 2: lot of which he apparently lost gambling. According to people
- 51:34Speaker 2: who know, they call it a dopamine addiction. He's addicted
- 51:40Speaker 2: to the juice whether it's on the course, which we've
- 51:45Speaker 2: seen him come apart at times and tried shots he
- 51:49Speaker 2: had no business trying, but tried them anyway because they
- 51:52Speaker 2: were a challenge. Whether it's gambling, whether it's women. He
- 52:00Speaker 2: has a dopamine addiction, which is really interesting way to
- 52:07Speaker 2: describe somebody.
- 52:09Speaker 5: It's it's quite the image tarnishing.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. He can't get a cup of coffee
- 52:14Speaker 2: now with anyone. So first time in his career he
- 52:18Speaker 2: will not have played in any of the four majors
- 52:22Speaker 2: during a season.
- 52:23Speaker 5: You know, I don't think it's on the same level
- 52:25Speaker 5: Joe Turno or.
- 52:26Speaker 2: No, it doesn't seem like.
- 52:28Speaker 5: It doesn't seem like when we don't know all the
- 52:31Speaker 5: details right brows. But I'm right, it is a seriously
- 52:35Speaker 5: tarnished image.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Oh, there's no doubt. There's no question.
- 52:39Speaker 5: America is very forgiving.
- 52:41Speaker 2: But they are. He's gonna have to come out and
- 52:43Speaker 2: he's got to be really good, you know. So far
- 52:46Speaker 2: he has just issued statements through his attorneys.
- 52:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that's not gonna work, and that will not work, right,
- 52:52Speaker 5: I mean, we've seen all kinds of football caches.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Tiger came out in public after all his issues a
- 53:00Speaker 2: long time ago, right with women. We heard him again
- 53:09Speaker 2: for the first time publicly with this new PGA tour
- 53:14Speaker 2: format on which he was apparently very involved, despite the
- 53:22Speaker 2: latest stay in rehab in substance abuse rehab, and people
- 53:33Speaker 2: were willing to forgive Tiger and with all of that
- 53:38Speaker 2: years ago. But this the latest accident you know, that
- 53:43Speaker 2: he had in Florida. I mean, could have killed somebody
- 53:49Speaker 2: except for himself. You know, when you say, well, it's
- 53:51Speaker 2: just him, well it's not just him. If he's driving
- 53:53Speaker 2: a pair, you know, it's not just him, you know,
- 53:58Speaker 2: I mean, I go.
- 53:59Speaker 5: Back to bub Trino, right, yeah, I mean his image
- 54:03Speaker 5: was surly tarnish. But then he went and got hired
- 54:06Speaker 5: someplace else and got a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and
- 54:10Speaker 5: ended up coaching.
- 54:11Speaker 2: For a long time and you know, so still coaching.
- 54:14Speaker 5: I believe these things can be forgiven.
- 54:17Speaker 2: They can, but you have to ask.
- 54:20Speaker 5: That's not one of the things when he he didn't
- 54:22Speaker 5: ask him about that when he became a member of Meyormad.
- 54:24Speaker 2: No, no, right, right, right, no, no, no, I bet
- 54:26Speaker 2: you have to ask for forgiveness, right, I mean, you
- 54:30Speaker 2: have to be public and open about it. And I
- 54:34Speaker 2: think Phil at this point is so busy could trying
- 54:38Speaker 2: to hang on to that image that.
- 54:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think you can hang on to it anymore.
- 54:42Speaker 2: I think it's too late.
- 54:43Speaker 5: I just wonder if his wife stays with him. That's
- 54:46Speaker 5: going to be interesting.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, you know, I don't know. Uh,
- 54:50Speaker 2: it's it's it's sad. You know you hate you hate it.
- 54:54Speaker 2: You had it for family, you hate it for everybody.
- 54:56Speaker 2: And you know you're right after spending it doesn't take
- 55:04Speaker 2: but a couple of stupid things to undo a lifetime. Yeah, right,
- 55:10Speaker 2: Well that's exactly right.
- 55:11Speaker 5: You have to be Your reputation can be destroyed really easily,
- 55:15Speaker 5: very easily. Yeah, and I mean it can happen to
- 55:19Speaker 5: any one of us.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Yes, it can.
- 55:21Speaker 5: One dumb mistake, as stupid. I've seen very good friends
