- 3:09Speaker 2: Water from the Kanaal, Charleston. You made association via the
- 3:12Speaker 2: Guarantee Bank hotline with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet
- 3:15Speaker 2: of the Week, brought to you by Almost Having Interiors
- 3:17Speaker 2: in South Charles. Good morning, Andrew, Welcome to the show.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Good morning, thank you for being here. First of all,
- 3:23Speaker 2: before we get to our pet of the week, tragic
- 3:25Speaker 2: story earlier this week when and we all know it
- 3:28Speaker 2: by now, the semi truck driver was killed in an
- 3:31Speaker 2: accident on I sixty four. Some good Samaritans, though couldn't
- 3:34Speaker 2: get to the driver, but they were able to at
- 3:36Speaker 2: least save the guy's dog, Hennessy, and then plans were
- 3:40Speaker 2: in place to reunite it with the deceased family back
- 3:43Speaker 2: in Iowa. We had you on midday to talk about
- 3:45Speaker 2: it earlier this week. Take us through that whole process
- 3:48Speaker 2: and then we'll get to the Adopt Me Please pet
- 3:50Speaker 2: of the week.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely so. When Hennessy first arrived at KHA, her
- 3:56Speaker 5: caller had a phone number on it and her name.
- 3:59Speaker 5: The the part of the phone number was worn off,
- 4:01Speaker 5: so we took a shot in the dark. Does anyone
- 4:04Speaker 5: We figured out it was an Iowa phone number? And
- 4:06Speaker 5: that was about it. Does anyone in Iowa know this dog?
- 4:10Speaker 5: And through the power of social media and the community
- 4:12Speaker 5: that Caseyha has, we were able to find you know,
- 4:16Speaker 5: the rescue that she was adopted from in twenty nineteen
- 4:20Speaker 5: and her family and she had her first night at KHA.
- 4:25Speaker 5: She was incredibly shut down, as anybody would be after
- 4:27Speaker 5: one through something.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, absolutely yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I could not imagine how she was feeling and you know,
- 4:34Speaker 5: everything that she was.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Dealing with and something I just wanted to let me,
- 4:36Speaker 2: let me jump into this one second. Something that and
- 4:38Speaker 2: this is something my wife and I were talking about,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and she actually mentioned this to me. This was a
- 4:44Speaker 2: dog that I guess went all around the country with
- 4:46Speaker 2: its owner, and dogs consents and you know when there's
- 4:50Speaker 2: something wrong with their person or their people. So imagine
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know what that dog went through seeing I mean
- 4:57Speaker 2: being in that truck in that accident and seeing their owner,
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know, right there beside them, and then you don't
- 5:05Speaker 2: know what's going on the truck is you know, there's fire,
- 5:07Speaker 2: there's smoking, then you got these people trying to get
- 5:10Speaker 2: at the dog. Just put yourself in it. I mean,
- 5:12Speaker 2: imagine what the what the dog went through, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 2: I mean going through that with his person.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I was thinking. I was like, this is a
- 5:20Speaker 5: dog that has quite literally spent every second of every
- 5:23Speaker 5: day of every year with this person. And you know,
- 5:28Speaker 5: the accident alone would be enough to shake somebody out,
- 5:30Speaker 5: but knowing that there's something wrong with her person thrown
- 5:34Speaker 5: into that mix. I cannot imagine how confused and scared
- 5:38Speaker 5: she was. But she when we got contact with the owners,
- 5:44Speaker 5: we were able to let her face time with the
- 5:47Speaker 5: owner's next of kin and she became a different dog.
- 5:51Speaker 5: She now like solicits attention from our staff. She wags
- 5:54Speaker 5: her tail and gets excited when she hears their voices
- 5:57Speaker 5: through the phone. She even tried to give the phone kisses.
- 6:00Speaker 5: So that's definitely helping her during this time.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So what is the status now of Hennessy? Because I
- 6:06Speaker 2: know the family was contacted and they were going to
- 6:08Speaker 2: you know, try, they were going to come to West
- 6:10Speaker 2: Virginia and we, I mean, look at the volunteers. People
- 6:13Speaker 2: were saying, well, look i'll drive the dog there, I'll
- 6:15Speaker 2: meet you halfway. What is the status of Hennessy right now?
- 6:18Speaker 5: So we first of all, I do want to thank
- 6:20Speaker 5: everyone for just we have received an outpouring of support
- 6:24Speaker 5: as well as the other shelter in Iowa, all all
- 6:27Speaker 5: of us around have received an outpouring of support to
- 6:29Speaker 5: get Hennessy back home. So thank you all for wanting
- 6:32Speaker 5: to spend you know, your time, your gas, your you
- 6:36Speaker 5: know wear, and tear on your vehicle to get this
- 6:38Speaker 5: dog back home. However, her family does have to come
- 6:41Speaker 5: to West Virginia for some things regarding the death of
- 6:46Speaker 5: her owners, so they want to come and pick her up.
- 6:50Speaker 5: They appreciate all the all the help that they are receiving. However,
- 6:54Speaker 5: that since they have to come to West Virginia anyway,
- 6:56Speaker 5: less stress for her. They're going to pick her up
- 6:59Speaker 5: from us early next week. I do believe they are
- 7:02Speaker 5: planning to be here on Monday or Tuesday, depending on
- 7:05Speaker 5: when they leave.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Okay, because yeah, that's that's something and we don't want
- 7:09Speaker 2: that to get lost. You know, this is an animal segment,
- 7:11Speaker 2: but we don't want that to get lost in the
- 7:13Speaker 2: fact that that that that they loved one of the family,
- 7:15Speaker 2: uh did perish in this horrible accident, and so we
- 7:18Speaker 2: don't we I mean, we're spending our time talking about Hennessy,
- 7:21Speaker 2: which were you and our animal people and a lot
- 7:23Speaker 2: of our listeners are too, But we don't want to
- 7:25Speaker 2: lose sight of the fact that they we got the dog.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Say but but the dog did lose its owner and
- 7:29Speaker 2: the family lost a loved one as well. We just
- 7:31Speaker 2: don't want to lose sight of That's what I'm trying
- 7:32Speaker 2: to say.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Absolutely, yeah, all right.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Uh uh, And I do want to say that. And
- 7:38Speaker 2: you noted this on your social media page that unfortunately,
- 7:43Speaker 2: although West Virginians are good people, there are bad actors
- 7:45Speaker 2: out there, and there have been people with putting out
- 7:48Speaker 2: you know, bots or whatever, putting out in fake information.
- 7:52Speaker 2: There are scams out there already related to this dog.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And you you verified that on your on your Facebook page,
- 7:58Speaker 2: so you got a list. I think you think get
- 8:00Speaker 2: some information on the Facebook page about it. Talk about
- 8:02Speaker 2: that quickly.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Yes, we did have. If you got are our Facebook page,
- 8:06Speaker 5: you can see there are some awful people out there
- 8:08Speaker 5: pretending to be next of ken to Hennessy and her owner.
- 8:13Speaker 5: If you wanted to help with travel expenses the rescue
- 8:16Speaker 5: that she was adopted from. We also shared their posts.
- 8:19Speaker 5: They have a way that you can help with their
- 8:21Speaker 5: travel expenses during this time. Donate only through that link,
- 8:25Speaker 5: or you can come directly to KHA and let us
- 8:29Speaker 5: know you want to donate towards Tennessee's care and we
- 8:31Speaker 5: can also, you know, make that happen successfully without getting
- 8:36Speaker 5: the bots and the scammers involved.
- 8:39Speaker 2: That is really sad, but that's the society. I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 2: we've had so much good come out of this story,
- 8:43Speaker 2: you know, relating to the dog. Of course, certainly not
- 8:46Speaker 2: the driver of the truck, but but there have been
- 8:48Speaker 2: people that are saying, hey, I am the niece and
- 8:51Speaker 2: the nephew that's my dad, please donate here, and it
- 8:54Speaker 2: ain't true.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Correct, Yes, the only trusted source you should be donating
- 8:59Speaker 5: through is our post shared from her rescue she was
- 9:02Speaker 5: adopted from.
- 9:03Speaker 2: All right, let's get to this week's adopt me. Please
- 9:05Speaker 2: put her the week. It's Ava Bug is her name
- 9:08Speaker 2: or picture post of the Dave Island Radio in the
- 9:10Speaker 2: WCHS network Facebook pages and also on my ex page
- 9:13Speaker 2: as well, and you tell us all about Ava Bug.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Uh So, Ava Bug came to the shelter as astray
- 9:19Speaker 5: in twenty twenty four. She was adopted at that point,
- 9:23Speaker 5: but a few weeks ago Ava Bug was found as
- 9:26Speaker 5: astray in Putnam County. They found out she had a
- 9:29Speaker 5: KHA chip and they got us got her back to us.
- 9:33Speaker 5: We haven't been able to make contact with an owner.
- 9:36Speaker 5: No phone number, email address is valid for us. So
- 9:40Speaker 5: she is now available for adoption again. She is stayed.
- 9:44Speaker 5: She is about six years old, so she's a little
- 9:47Speaker 5: bit older in age. She's around I would say about
- 9:51Speaker 5: sixty five pounds, so she's a big girl of housebroken,
- 9:54Speaker 5: good with kids and loves to play with other dogs.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Beautiful dog too. What kind of dog is it?
- 9:59Speaker 5: Oh, it's West Virginia brown h for sure.
- 10:02Speaker 2: The best Kuy, the best Kuy. Again the pictures post
- 10:05Speaker 2: on social media of my social media and now through
- 10:07Speaker 2: the end of the month. If I'm correct about this, Angie.
- 10:10Speaker 2: All adult dogs at the shelter are free if they're fixed,
- 10:13Speaker 2: and fifty if they're not. Did I get that right?
- 10:17Speaker 5: Yes, if they're already stayed in newd they are free
- 10:20Speaker 5: to take home adult dogs or anybody that lives in
- 10:23Speaker 5: our adult dog kennels. And then if they are not
- 10:26Speaker 5: already fixed, they are fifty dollars to take home.
- 10:28Speaker 2: All right, So you guys out anywhere this weekend.
- 10:31Speaker 5: So tomorrow will actually be at the Donna el Skin
- 10:34Speaker 5: Senior from twelve to three.
- 10:37Speaker 2: That's awesome because I talked about that on the show
- 10:40Speaker 2: yesterday and Jim Sewan's going to come in to talk
- 10:41Speaker 2: about live on the Levee. We'll ask you more about
- 10:43Speaker 2: that as well. So that's going on at the Benny
- 10:45Speaker 2: Keatam Shrine in Charleston. So that's a great event for
- 10:49Speaker 2: you guys to go out there, going out and hanging out,
- 10:51Speaker 2: the hanging out with the seniors.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Yes. Absolutely, we went a few years ago and it
- 10:55Speaker 5: was so fun and we actually had one adoption while
- 10:57Speaker 5: we were there, so that was exciting.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Good stuff, good stuff, all right. How are the numbers
- 11:02Speaker 2: and what are you in need of?
- 11:04Speaker 5: Our numbers again are going to be some of the
- 11:06Speaker 5: highest that I've seen working there with us, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 5: just under six hundred animals that were taken care of,
- 11:13Speaker 5: So we're definitely in need of foster's adopters as always.
- 11:15Speaker 5: But if you can't do that, Kirina chowel products are
- 11:19Speaker 5: always going to be needed with so many mouths to
- 11:21Speaker 5: feed and any type of cleaning products that you can
- 11:24Speaker 5: think of.
- 11:25Speaker 2: All right, Angie, I appreciate you being here. Now, are
- 11:28Speaker 2: you in for next week? Because here's the thing. Next
- 11:30Speaker 2: week is going to be one of the next Friday
- 11:31Speaker 2: is going to be one of those weird days. I
- 11:33Speaker 2: know everybody. A lot of folks are going to be
- 11:35Speaker 2: off next week because they're observing the July fourth holiday.
- 11:39Speaker 2: On Friday, offices are closed and so on and so open.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Are you available to do this segment next week?
- 11:44Speaker 5: I'll be available and the shelter will be open.
- 11:46Speaker 2: All right, I'll be here too. I'm doing the show
- 11:49Speaker 2: next week, so I we'll be talking to you next week.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I appreciate you being here.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Thanks a March.
- 11:53Speaker 5: That's great, all right.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Ava Bug around six years old, spade housebroken, great with kids,
- 11:59Speaker 2: loves others, playful dogs. She was actually adopted from the
- 12:02Speaker 2: shelter two years ago, but somehow was found as astray.
- 12:06Speaker 2: The story, according to Angie, is that her previous owners
- 12:10Speaker 2: apparently moved. This seems to be the story that they
- 12:13Speaker 2: moved and left her behind, so she's found herself back
- 12:16Speaker 2: of the shelter. Ava Bug classic West Virginia brown dog
- 12:19Speaker 2: picture posted WCCHS network dot com, I'm sorry WHS network
- 12:23Speaker 2: facebook page and Dave Allen Radio and Facebook andough also
- 12:27Speaker 2: at Dave A seventy on X. A couple quick texts
- 12:29Speaker 2: here says I'm amazed at how fast, how fast spread nationally.
- 12:34Speaker 2: The story of reuniting Hennessy the dog has survived the
- 12:36Speaker 2: tractor trailer crashing the fire, but sadly lost her owner,
- 12:38Speaker 2: with her family in Iowa and highlighting the people of
- 12:42Speaker 2: this state working together again. Several stories have been posted
- 12:45Speaker 2: about it online, from how the young man who held
- 12:48Speaker 2: her so she would not run or get hurt even
- 12:50Speaker 2: though she bit him, to the shelter working patiently to
- 12:53Speaker 2: calm her, to show her love, find her family, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: facetiming her with them. Just more examples of why I'm
- 12:58Speaker 2: so proud to be a West Virginia and I agree
- 13:01Speaker 2: with that wholeheartedly. But let's make sure that we realize
- 13:03Speaker 2: that there are scammers out there, not West Virginians, probably
- 13:07Speaker 2: not Americans, that have put out fake information. You know,
- 13:10Speaker 2: like I said, like Angie said, it was, I am
- 13:13Speaker 2: this gentleman's daughter. Please donate here not true. You can
- 13:18Speaker 2: go to the shelter itself physically upon Greenbrier Street, or
- 13:22Speaker 2: you can go to the Facebook page. They have a
- 13:24Speaker 2: list of links on there where you can make sure
- 13:26Speaker 2: if you do donate for the care and whatnot for Hennessy,
- 13:29Speaker 2: that you can do that there. It's shame that these
- 13:31Speaker 2: things happen, but they do and that's the world that
- 13:34Speaker 2: we live in now.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Now.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Angie again said that Hennessy is still in their care
- 13:39Speaker 2: at the shelter and that the family, after this accident,
- 13:42Speaker 2: the immediate members of the family of the gentleman who
- 13:45Speaker 2: was tragically killed, will be coming to West Virginia early
- 13:48Speaker 2: next week to pick up the dog because they got
- 13:50Speaker 2: a lot of other stuff, as you can imagine, take
- 13:51Speaker 2: care of, and they will be taking Hennessy back to
- 13:55Speaker 2: Iowa with them. Tex says, how about having a condolence
- 13:58Speaker 2: card for the family to say goodbye and we love
- 14:00Speaker 2: you to Hennessy before they get here. Well, not a
- 14:03Speaker 2: bad idea. Get with energy up at the shelter. Tex says,
- 14:06Speaker 2: was next to Ken notified by finding the dog's family. No,
- 14:08Speaker 2: they were notified. From what I understand, they were notified
- 14:11Speaker 2: well in advance of the of the dog. As banked
- 14:14Speaker 2: of it, all right, They not me please pedal the week.

- 17:22Speaker 2: on the Levee Tonight six point thirty had Ad Riverfront
- 17:24Speaker 2: Parker sent by the Moses Auto Group. Jimmy, good morning,
- 17:27Speaker 2: Good morning, sir.
- 17:28Speaker 10: Yes we are still we are still on for Hadad
- 17:31Speaker 10: Riverfront Park. Literally right before I came on, got a
- 17:34Speaker 10: text from city officials saying we're holding off. We're still
- 17:38Speaker 10: very hopeful that we're going to be outdoors tonight for
- 17:40Speaker 10: season twenty two week number six of the Moses Auto
- 17:43Speaker 10: Group live on the levee down at Hadad Riverfront Park.
- 17:47Speaker 10: So we hope it happens outdoors tonight. If not, you'll
- 17:50Speaker 10: hear right here, listen to this station. You'll know when
- 17:54Speaker 10: the city knows if we're going to move it indoors.
- 17:56Speaker 10: But I think it's gonna be a great show either way.
- 17:58Speaker 10: Of course, we just really need to be outdoors, but
- 18:01Speaker 10: indoors is fine. This is the preeminent purple experience. This
- 18:07Speaker 10: is if you like Prince, and who doesn't, really, I
- 18:10Speaker 10: mean most people like Prince.
- 18:11Speaker 2: This is one of those artists that just transcends genres,
- 18:16Speaker 2: you know, the music does.
- 18:17Speaker 10: He really does. And I remember listening to him in
- 18:20Speaker 10: the eighties and I can't believe now that he passed away.
- 18:23Speaker 10: It's been over ten years day. It was April of sixteen,
- 18:28Speaker 10: but Marshall Charloff Charlov in The Purple Experience along with
- 18:32Speaker 10: Doctor Fink. He's a keyboardist. They knew Prince, they played
- 18:36Speaker 10: with Prince. They're from Minneapolis. They and Marshall looks like Prince,
- 18:40Speaker 10: dresses like Prince picked up is all of his mannerisms
- 18:45Speaker 10: and the voice and the band, and our good friend
- 18:48Speaker 10: Anthony Lewis says, it's the real deal.
- 18:52Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 18:52Speaker 10: It's the deal, that's what I'm thinking. Anthony knows the music,
- 18:56Speaker 10: knows these vinyls, and he knows Prince, and he saw
- 19:00Speaker 10: he saw Marshall in this band. So I'm looking forward
- 19:03Speaker 10: to it. I hope we're outdoors. They'll take center stage
- 19:05Speaker 10: wherever we are, hopefully had ad at eight pm. I'm
- 19:09Speaker 10: excited for six thirty six thirty, the opening act. They're
- 19:13Speaker 10: called the Heavy Hitters. I've introduced them before. They're more local.
- 19:16Speaker 10: I think they're from the Huntington area. Don't quote me
- 19:18Speaker 10: on that, but I think they're from down that way.
- 19:21Speaker 10: They're groovy, they have infectious energy, and they're funkadelic, and
- 19:25Speaker 10: they call themselves the funkiest band in the land, and I.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Think they might be.
- 19:30Speaker 10: They're fun to dance too, and they're just soul full
- 19:34Speaker 10: and rhythm and dancy and old fashioned groovy. The heavy hitters.
- 19:40Speaker 10: At six thirty until seven thirty, we'll take a little break.
- 19:43Speaker 10: We'll thank our sponsors, will let you get a bite
- 19:45Speaker 10: to eat, maybe a spirited Beveries methos from t shirts out.
- 19:49Speaker 10: You hear from some of our sponsors last week, it
- 19:52Speaker 10: was kind of neat. The sponsor was one oh seven
- 19:55Speaker 10: point three and Woody and G Money were there and
- 19:57Speaker 10: I let them introduce the act the rapper to leave
- 20:02Speaker 10: Quali at something.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I let Woody and G Money get it.
- 20:06Speaker 3: She was great.
- 20:07Speaker 10: So we'll thank all the sponsors between seven thirty and eight.
- 20:11Speaker 10: Then we'll bring on the Purple Experience at eight o'clock
- 20:14Speaker 10: and they'll do a ninety minute set. We're still wherever
- 20:17Speaker 10: we are. We're going to do the fifty to fifty.
- 20:19Speaker 10: We've been doing that for since we started Great Fun
- 20:23Speaker 10: for a Great Cause. We've helped these same five inner
- 20:25Speaker 10: city charities in Charleston for twenty two seasons, our CCR, KBC, Sojourner,
- 20:31Speaker 10: shelter Man and Meal, and Covenant House. Tonight, one of
- 20:34Speaker 10: them will be there selling fifty to fifty tickets. A
- 20:37Speaker 10: little different this year, but we're doing the drawing at
- 20:39Speaker 10: nine thirty, after the last song of the headliner. Because
- 20:43Speaker 10: of your kindness, because of your generosity, folks coming down
- 20:46Speaker 10: to the levee. We've raised one hundred and thirty two
- 20:49Speaker 10: thousand dollars give or take the last twenty one plus seasons.
- 20:53Speaker 10: So thank you, thank you, thank you for that. But
- 20:56Speaker 10: it should be a nice evening. If it rains, will
- 21:00Speaker 10: be indoors, and if we're outdoors and it rains, we'll
- 21:02Speaker 10: cover up. I don't think it's going to settle in.
- 21:05Speaker 10: We've done this before. I remember when Hybrid Soul did
- 21:08Speaker 10: a tribute to Prince a couple of years back, and
- 21:10Speaker 10: Shalea was on stage and it got right to nine
- 21:13Speaker 10: point thirty and we held the rain off all night.
- 21:16Speaker 10: And at about nine twenty she was doing her finals
- 21:19Speaker 10: and it was purple rain, and I'm on the stage
- 21:23Speaker 10: because it's the last song, getting ready for her to end,
- 21:26Speaker 10: and rain drops started coming down through the purple lights.
- 21:29Speaker 10: It literally was purple rain, but not enough to stop
- 21:33Speaker 10: the show because it was almost like teardrops from sky
- 21:36Speaker 10: and they were purple. I'll never forget the moment.
- 21:39Speaker 2: It was epic. Now that's all you can't You can't
- 21:41Speaker 2: script that, Jim.
- 21:42Speaker 10: It was crazy. We looked up and went wow wow.
- 21:46Speaker 10: So if it does rain and we're outdoors, we'll cover
- 21:49Speaker 10: up and hopefully hold off. Just be flexible with us
- 21:52Speaker 10: in the city. We can't obviously have that equipment ruined.
- 21:55Speaker 10: And if there's lightning, we'll wait a little while. But
- 21:58Speaker 10: it's such a big show, we'll leave. We've been known
- 22:00Speaker 10: to wait, cover up, sometimes even shortened the show just
- 22:04Speaker 10: to get some music in. So just pay attention to
- 22:06Speaker 10: the station, pay attention to city officials, and hopefully we
- 22:10Speaker 10: will be down at hand at Riverfront Park tonight. After
- 22:13Speaker 10: week number one when we went indoors, it's been great.
- 22:16Speaker 10: The levee's been great. We've had some great music, different genres,
- 22:19Speaker 10: different sounds. People are coming. We mixed in the USA
- 22:24Speaker 10: Cycling this year a little better than we did last year.
- 22:26Speaker 10: So I think I just think the city learning how
- 22:28Speaker 10: to do the racing and the music and all the
- 22:31Speaker 10: things that the mayor brings into town. I think they're
- 22:33Speaker 10: just trying to figure out all of the logistics to
- 22:36Speaker 10: make it happen. And we had the USA Cycling a
- 22:39Speaker 10: little earlier in the day this year so people could
- 22:42Speaker 10: come out and enjoy the levee last week and it's
- 22:46Speaker 10: really working. Folks are coming. The food vendors are outstanding
- 22:50Speaker 10: four points by Sheraton, our partner there couldn't do it
- 22:54Speaker 10: without some of our Speaking of heavy hitters, we have
- 22:56Speaker 10: some heavy hitters that help us with this fun In
- 23:00Speaker 10: this sponsorship. We want to thank Brewer and Company, along
- 23:03Speaker 10: with the Terarodn Corporation, Knawa Stone, Louendo Marine, the Health Plan,
- 23:08Speaker 10: loved Ones and we'll talk about loved Ones in a
- 23:10Speaker 10: moment with the Senior Exbo tomorrow, Poka Valley, Optimum Cable Services,
- 23:14Speaker 10: my company, and of course right here WBrC Media and
- 23:18Speaker 10: Talk Radio five eighty with you Dave. You guys have
- 23:22Speaker 10: been great. Loved Ones are the ones that sponsor this
- 23:26Speaker 10: Senior exbo. If I can make a Safeway until tomorrow
- 23:29Speaker 10: tomorrow free.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Another free event. By the way, tonight's free. By the way,
- 23:33Speaker 2: it's free. It's free.
- 23:34Speaker 10: We got I feel like I need to say it,
- 23:36Speaker 10: but I don't think I need to say it, but
- 23:38Speaker 10: I need to say it. If you're listening for the
- 23:39Speaker 10: first time and you just crawled out from a rock
- 23:41Speaker 10: and you've been away for twenty five years. Tonight's Levy
- 23:44Speaker 10: is free. Free event. Tomorrow, another free event brought to
- 23:48Speaker 10: you by loved Ones. It's the Donna L. Skeen third
- 23:51Speaker 10: Annual Senior Expo. Over to Benny Keatom Temple or the
- 23:54Speaker 10: benny Keatom Shrine as you call it. Why do you
- 23:57Speaker 10: call it a shrine? That's just how you say it, right,
- 24:00Speaker 10: It's a shrine, but it's also a temple.
- 24:02Speaker 2: It's a shrine temple.
- 24:02Speaker 10: It's a shrine temple.
- 24:04Speaker 11: Anyway.
- 24:04Speaker 10: It's going to be right there on Cory Street beside
- 24:06Speaker 10: the Convention Center. It'll start at nine and it'll go
- 24:09Speaker 10: to about five. A free event for seniors and folks
- 24:13Speaker 10: that are taking care of seniors, your thirty and forty
- 24:16Speaker 10: and fifty year olds that are taking care of your seniors.
- 24:18Speaker 10: But there's going to be blood work done there by
- 24:21Speaker 10: the Boone Health. You had ray on yesterday. You also
- 24:23Speaker 10: had Jenna on, Jenna Skeen, the daughter of Donna Elskin.
- 24:27Speaker 10: There's going to be so much information, so much good
- 24:30Speaker 10: things happening on stage at the Benny keatam JK. The
- 24:34Speaker 10: DJ is our DJ there. We're going to have Lee
- 24:37Speaker 10: d He'll be doing some songs. He'll be Elvis one hour,
- 24:40Speaker 10: he'll be Frank Sinatra another hour. Boone Memorial is gonna
- 24:44Speaker 10: be doing some cooking demonstrations. We have lunch and learns
- 24:47Speaker 10: on medicare and how to survive the caregiver journey. We're
- 24:51Speaker 10: going to have a JK is going to do Singo,
- 24:54Speaker 10: so we're going to have like Bingo, but at Singo.
- 24:57Speaker 10: And we're going to have lots of prizes. We're gonna
- 24:59Speaker 10: have care giver giveaways with big prizes that you can
- 25:03Speaker 10: register for. We're just going to have a lot of
- 25:05Speaker 10: information on growing older and how as you grow older
- 25:09Speaker 10: we can care for you in your home. That's the
- 25:11Speaker 10: gest of the Senior Expo. And it's free tomorrow that
- 25:14Speaker 10: if it does rain, it's okay, it's inside at the
- 25:17Speaker 10: Benny keetom So lots going on this weekend. I know
- 25:20Speaker 10: there's lots more. Are you talking about the car show?
- 25:22Speaker 10: They moved that up to July one, Yeah, Okay, lot's
- 25:27Speaker 10: going on. If you can be indoors tomorrow, that might
- 25:29Speaker 10: be the way to go.
- 25:31Speaker 6: Uh.
- 25:31Speaker 10: You know, you're going to have Brian on here soon
- 25:33Speaker 10: to talk more about that. You know, a butterfly could
- 25:36Speaker 10: land and flap its wings, and things could change. The
- 25:37Speaker 10: wind could go this.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Way, never know. So that's that's then we have a texture.
- 25:41Speaker 2: It says, hey, Prince performed the super Bowl and the
- 25:43Speaker 2: torrential downpour, so we can do this. Let's love that
- 25:46Speaker 2: textave spirit. Let's let's let us keep in mine though. Okay,
- 25:52Speaker 2: that they had a whole lot more stage hands to
- 25:56Speaker 2: help out at the super Bowl in case things went
- 25:59Speaker 2: got bad.
- 26:00Speaker 10: We have we have some wonderful stage hands, not as many.
- 26:03Speaker 10: You don't have a cast attend now, we don't have
- 26:05Speaker 10: a cast. But Tom Tom Passinetti is our stage manager
- 26:08Speaker 10: down there the parks and Recreation from the City of Charleston.
- 26:11Speaker 10: You know, I say this every Friday from the stage
- 26:14Speaker 10: and and and I thank the mayor, and she comes
- 26:16Speaker 10: by and says a few words, and I think Matt,
- 26:19Speaker 10: and I thank Tina, and I thank Jane and Adam,
- 26:22Speaker 10: our new events coordinator there and been our city manager.
- 26:25Speaker 10: And then I think all the public works people and
- 26:28Speaker 10: all the parks and recreation. But folks, there's a lot
- 26:31Speaker 10: there's a lot of people in the City of Charleston,
- 26:33Speaker 10: and a lot of our sponsors that make these events happen.
- 26:36Speaker 10: And we don't just do the Levey. I mean, the
- 26:38Speaker 10: levee is one thing, but it's you know, the cycling
- 26:40Speaker 10: and the regatta and Slack Plaza and all the arts
- 26:44Speaker 10: and all the music and all the activities and all
- 26:46Speaker 10: the fun things that the city does. Now there's a
- 26:49Speaker 10: lot that goes on behind the scenes. And I'm I'm
- 26:51Speaker 10: always here to thank the folks that help make this possible,
- 26:55Speaker 10: including all the folks in the city hall, parks and
- 26:57Speaker 10: public works. Folks you may not see, but the electrician
- 27:00Speaker 10: that turns electric on so we can have power.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Stuff like that.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I want to go back to the senior expoto. Yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I don't know if you heard the segment, but my
- 27:07Speaker 2: adopt me please Peder the weak with Angie.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yes, they're going to be there. They're going to be
- 27:10Speaker 1: there tomorrow.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And the last time they did this, they had an
- 27:13Speaker 2: adoption there.
- 27:13Speaker 3: That's right.
- 27:14Speaker 10: I heard Angie say that, and we did it? Did
- 27:16Speaker 10: they did it? This is the third year they were there.
- 27:18Speaker 10: The first year, couldn't make it last year, so they're back.
- 27:20Speaker 10: And no one loves a little pet therapy more than me.
- 27:24Speaker 10: And you know, I'm a kitty cat and I like
- 27:26Speaker 10: puppy dogs too. I'm a kitty cat guy. And it's
- 27:29Speaker 10: just great to have the pets there. It's great to
- 27:31Speaker 10: have the Humane Society there, the Cannell and Charleston Humane
- 27:35Speaker 10: Association and the Animal Shelter. They'll be there. They'll have
- 27:38Speaker 10: kitty cats, they'll have puppy dogs, they may have some
- 27:40Speaker 10: other thing. And seniors and people taking care of seniors
- 27:43Speaker 10: just love to come in and pet. It's pet therapy.
- 27:46Speaker 3: I love it.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I love it all.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I want to mention next week because next week is
- 27:50Speaker 2: the regatta.
- 27:51Speaker 10: Yes, no Live on Lovey. Of course, there's going to
- 27:53Speaker 10: be music downtown, a little bit, a little bit of music.
- 27:56Speaker 10: It'll start on Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday,
- 27:58Speaker 10: I do believe. But yeah, you're going to be here.
- 28:01Speaker 10: I may not need to be here, and I don't
- 28:03Speaker 10: know how much I'm going to be around. So I'll
- 28:04Speaker 10: see you in two weeks for the next Live on Levee.
- 28:07Speaker 10: This is the week number six. Already we have ten
- 28:10Speaker 10: weeks at the Levee. That doesn't count the regatta. So
- 28:13Speaker 10: after the regatta there's still four more Live on the
- 28:17Speaker 10: Levees brought to you by Moses Auto Group.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I want to throw this out here real quick, and
- 28:20Speaker 2: I know you got to go, but I do want
- 28:21Speaker 2: to say that somebody had texted the show earlier about Hennessy,
- 28:24Speaker 2: you know, the dogs and the whole thing there, about
- 28:27Speaker 2: having a condolence card for the family. I suggested they
- 28:30Speaker 2: go to the shelter. Even better idea, I got the best,
- 28:33Speaker 2: the best list take the world. They said, maybe tomorrow,
- 28:37Speaker 2: and I'll get a hold of Angie after the show.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Maybe since Angie and were going to be there, maybe
- 28:42Speaker 2: you can have a card there because this Texas going
- 28:44Speaker 2: to be a good idea to send a card of
- 28:45Speaker 2: condolence for the family for losing the human aspect of this.
- 28:49Speaker 10: So all the folks that are at that event would
- 28:52Speaker 10: love to sign that card.
- 28:53Speaker 2: All right, I'll get with Angie, and I appreciate the
- 28:56Speaker 2: Lyne Thanks Day Live on the Levees coming up tonight,
- 28:58Speaker 2: and if it will would have to be moved indoors
- 29:02Speaker 2: because of rain. It'll be on the air and of
- 29:05Speaker 2: course on the city's Facebook page, and on the live
- 29:07Speaker 2: on the Levy Facebook page, and so on and so forth,
- 29:09Speaker 2: and we'll have for Jimmy, I'll see you and I
- 29:11Speaker 2: guess on a couple of weeks. Yes, sir, can't wait
- 29:13Speaker 2: if you get bored. Next Friday, I'm going a show.
- 29:15Speaker 3: I may come in.
- 29:16Speaker 10: I know you're going to be on right.

- 32:37Speaker 2: against the beverage market has gotten out of hand. Collective
- 32:39Speaker 2: bargaining and lawful strike activity to protect employee pay of
- 32:42Speaker 2: benefits are good things, but the union has devolved into
- 32:44Speaker 2: mafia style tactics, sending goons into local bars, grocery stores,
- 32:48Speaker 2: and gas stations to bully and to intimidate them and
- 32:51Speaker 2: their customers simply because they sell certain kinds of beer
- 32:54Speaker 2: and wine. This is not in North Jersey in nineteen
- 32:57Speaker 2: seventy five. This is the Kanaw Valley Union leaders and
- 32:59Speaker 2: their Democrat Party buddies ow several businesses a public apology
- 33:03Speaker 2: and need to leave them alone. It says a texture,
- 33:06Speaker 2: all right, So well, I haven't talked a whole lot
- 33:09Speaker 2: about the strike. Of course, if you are on social media.
- 33:11Speaker 2: You know, it's everywhere right now, people talking about that strike.
- 33:15Speaker 2: And I will if anybody wants to come on the
- 33:16Speaker 2: show from and we've had representatives of the team TransUnion
- 33:19Speaker 2: on the midday show or pro con whatever. This is
- 33:23Speaker 2: open airways for anybody here. I did mention that there
- 33:27Speaker 2: was going to be a car show held in Winfield
- 33:30Speaker 2: tomorrow to benefit to a Taylafer young man, of course
- 33:33Speaker 2: battling cancer. You know his story, I mean put a
- 33:36Speaker 2: tear in every eye at the Coddle Seeman Convention Center
- 33:39Speaker 2: at the boys state basketball tournament when he not only
- 33:43Speaker 2: suited up for Winfield in the tournament, but he actually played.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And his family is still going through issues with him
- 33:49Speaker 2: with the medical expense and so on and so forth.
- 33:50Speaker 2: They planned a car show for tomorrow in Winfield, but
- 33:54Speaker 2: because of the weather that's been postponed. So I didn't
- 33:56Speaker 2: want to give a Caden Beam, who's the organizer here,
- 33:58Speaker 2: an opportunity to talk about post owning that and then
- 34:00Speaker 2: we'll move on with the show. Kayden good a, good morning,
- 34:03Speaker 2: and welcome to the show.
- 34:05Speaker 16: Martam Dave, how are you all right?
- 34:06Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So you had to postpone
- 34:07Speaker 2: it to July eleventh, which is completely understandable with the
- 34:12Speaker 2: rain and the forecast.
- 34:14Speaker 16: Yeah, unfortunately, you know, mother nature does what she wants,
- 34:17Speaker 16: and you know, we want to ensure that this event.
- 34:20Speaker 16: You know, anybody, any car enthusiasts can make it. And
- 34:23Speaker 16: you know I myself, for one, I don't like driving
- 34:25Speaker 16: my car in the rain. You know, it's not good
- 34:27Speaker 16: for it. So we post tied it to July eleventh.
- 34:30Speaker 16: I figured that was a good day because you know,
- 34:32Speaker 16: we didn't want to do it on July fourth obviously,
- 34:34Speaker 16: you know, if that's time just felling family and you know.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Celebrate, and it's going to be at the Winfield Baptist Church,
- 34:39Speaker 2: is that right.
- 34:40Speaker 16: Yes, sir, Yeah, So July eleventh at the Winfield Baptist
- 34:43Speaker 16: Church in Winfield, West Virginia, same exact time, nine am
- 34:46Speaker 16: to two pm.
- 34:47Speaker 2: All right, so can you give us an update on time.
- 34:49Speaker 2: How's he doing?
- 34:51Speaker 16: He's doing great man, for my understanding, he had his
- 34:55Speaker 16: last round of treatments, so I think we're just awaiting
- 34:58Speaker 16: on the doctor's word and then we're hoping he can
- 35:01Speaker 16: ring the bell here pretty soon.
- 35:02Speaker 2: That's good stuff. And again, so you've had to move
- 35:04Speaker 2: the show from tomorrow because of the expected rain to
- 35:07Speaker 2: July eleventh, same place starts at nine am at Winfield
- 35:10Speaker 2: Baptist Church. Where could people go online and get more
- 35:12Speaker 2: information about this, Kaiden?
- 35:15Speaker 16: Yeah, absolutely so. Best place to find updated info and

- 36:33Speaker 2: a change with the Knah County Emergency Ambulance Authority. Canawh
- 36:36Speaker 2: County Commissioner Lance Wheeler now the executive director. He'll have
- 36:40Speaker 2: to step down, of course as commissioner. Of course, he
- 36:42Speaker 2: is running for state Senate and he won in the primary.
- 36:46Speaker 2: He'll advance to the general. His campaign there will continue.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Lance Wheeler joins us this morning in the student of
- 36:52Speaker 2: the Jeri Construction Studios. How you doing, my friend, Welcome
- 36:54Speaker 2: to the show.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Doing well, Dave, thanks for having me Hian, good morning.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Good morning too. Thanks for we had to kind of
- 36:59Speaker 2: move a couple things around here because of the cancelation
- 37:01Speaker 2: of the card show. I appreciate you hanging out here
- 37:03Speaker 2: and being a player, a team player like you always are.
- 37:06Speaker 2: We have the complete story posted, in fact, it's a
- 37:09Speaker 2: lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com. The vote
- 37:12Speaker 2: was unanimous to make you the new director. In them,
- 37:14Speaker 2: director Jason Surgent will transition down to the role of
- 37:17Speaker 2: deputy directors. So that all happened yesterday during their meeting,
- 37:21Speaker 2: and now, mister Wheeler, it's time to go to work.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 37:25Speaker 17: You know, first, I want to say that it's been
- 37:27Speaker 17: bittersweet moment. I said this at the County Commission meeting
- 37:30Speaker 17: last night, that it's bittersweet that I'm leaving at the
- 37:34Speaker 17: Kennall County Commission because I believe we've done so many
- 37:36Speaker 17: great things in the last nearly six years that I've
- 37:39Speaker 17: been there. After I was elected in twenty twenty. You know,
- 37:42Speaker 17: there's been a lot of great things with tourism. We've
- 37:44Speaker 17: talked about the hat film McCoy dirt Bike Trails out
- 37:46Speaker 17: in Tornado, we talked about the golf courses that we've
- 37:49Speaker 17: put in and all the work that we've been doing
- 37:51Speaker 17: with Appleachian Outlaw Trails, which is going to be absolutely
- 37:53Speaker 17: incredible for eastern Kennall County. We've worked on water projects.
- 37:57Speaker 17: We've looked at dilapidated structures and moving hundreds of dilapidated
- 38:01Speaker 17: structures blights and communities and taking them down and making
- 38:05Speaker 17: sure that they're safe from vacant fires and.
- 38:08Speaker 3: The public that lives in those areas.
- 38:10Speaker 17: You know, there's so many great things that I was
- 38:11Speaker 17: able to do as County Commissioner because I've always been
- 38:15Speaker 17: so grateful to serve the people of Kennall County and
- 38:18Speaker 17: so looking into this new role as executive director for
- 38:20Speaker 17: KCA this I didn't take this job because it's easy.
- 38:24Speaker 17: I took this job because I think KCA is worth
- 38:27Speaker 17: investing in the employees, the citizens of Kennall County and
- 38:30Speaker 17: making sure that we're continuing to move forward and increasing
- 38:34Speaker 17: the training, increasing the transparency, and bringing confidence into an
- 38:38Speaker 17: agency that I have seen for the last six years
- 38:40Speaker 17: as a board member, the employees and how great and
- 38:43Speaker 17: hard working they are and how much they care, and
- 38:46Speaker 17: making sure that we show that to the public and
- 38:48Speaker 17: do everything we can to be there when seconds matter
- 38:52Speaker 17: with an ambulance and whether it's yourself, whether it's a
- 38:55Speaker 17: family member or somebody in your community. That's our mission
- 38:58Speaker 17: and we're going to be doing that under my leadership.
- 39:00Speaker 17: And I'm proud that I was able to receive a
- 39:03Speaker 17: unanimous vote by the board members, a lot of them
- 39:06Speaker 17: first responders themselves or come from that experience and know
- 39:10Speaker 17: that we need somebody in there with leadership that I'm
- 39:13Speaker 17: looking to put forward at KCAA.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Now, what's the timeline as far as your role as
- 39:17Speaker 2: County Commissioner? I mean, I know you had the meeting
- 39:20Speaker 2: last night. You announced it there, so what's the time
- 39:22Speaker 2: you're still technically a county commissioner into it? Was that
- 39:24Speaker 2: effective immediately last night? How did that work?
- 39:26Speaker 17: No, it's going to be effective July first, when I
- 39:29Speaker 17: take the position at KCA And that was just to
- 39:31Speaker 17: give some time for the transition. You know you mentioned
- 39:35Speaker 17: it earlier. I was already looking at leaving the Kennall
- 39:38Speaker 17: County Commission as I put my name in the hat
- 39:40Speaker 17: for the State Senate at the end of the year.
- 39:42Speaker 17: So I felt like this was an opportunity that I
- 39:44Speaker 17: can continue with all the first responders that I've supported.
- 39:47Speaker 17: You know, I've came on here with your listeners many
- 39:49Speaker 17: times about the support from the Kennall County Commission that
- 39:52Speaker 17: I put forward for all of our first responders, our
- 39:55Speaker 17: fire or police, our EMS or telecommunicators at metronelum one,
- 39:58Speaker 17: and making sure that we have that funding for them
- 40:01Speaker 17: and the resources that they need when an emergency occurs.
- 40:06Speaker 17: This has given me an opportunity to still be with
- 40:08Speaker 17: them and push us towards, you know, getting to a
- 40:12Speaker 17: balanced budget and getting to a point to where we're
- 40:15Speaker 17: innovating and being finding more creative ways of how we
- 40:18Speaker 17: can serve the patients that we serve here, not just
- 40:20Speaker 17: in Kennell County, but the state of West Virginia.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Now, we had a question here. Somebody says that if
- 40:25Speaker 2: you are elected to the Senate, will you stay in
- 40:28Speaker 2: the same in the director's role. If you're still in
- 40:30Speaker 2: that role at that time, I'm sure hopefully you surely
- 40:33Speaker 2: will be, but I mean are you able to do both?
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yes?
- 40:36Speaker 17: And you know, we had that conversation and a lot
- 40:38Speaker 17: of that was with our director now going to be
- 40:40Speaker 17: Deputy Jason surgent who I've had many conversations with now
- 40:44Speaker 17: at this time, and him and I have been able
- 40:46Speaker 17: to talk and he is absolutely incredible. He knows how
- 40:49Speaker 17: to run operations and he's going to be able to
- 40:53Speaker 17: be my deputy, and we're going to work together as
- 40:55Speaker 17: a team. This isn't going to be the higher ups
- 40:58Speaker 17: telling everyone what they're going to do. The way that
- 41:00Speaker 17: I manage is coming in. I listen, I hear them,
- 41:03Speaker 17: and I give them a voice. And that's what we're
- 41:05Speaker 17: going to do at KCA. We're going to give the
- 41:07Speaker 17: employees a voice. We're going to have more open meetings,
- 41:09Speaker 17: more transparency, not just with the public, but with the
- 41:12Speaker 17: employees too, and we're going to be able to come
- 41:15Speaker 17: together and find more creative ways that we can best
- 41:17Speaker 17: serve the patients of West Virginia of Kanall County and
- 41:20Speaker 17: doing what we do best, and that's saving lives.
- 41:23Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people understand this is
- 41:25Speaker 2: according to you. And I've not talked to Jason about this,
- 41:28Speaker 2: but I'm presuming what you're I mean, you guys are
- 41:31Speaker 2: working together on this. This is not a thing where
- 41:33Speaker 2: he's being pushed aside. He is going to be as
- 41:35Speaker 2: the best I understand it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 41:37Speaker 2: He's going to be handling the business, not the business.
- 41:41Speaker 2: He's the actual hands on because that's his role. He's
- 41:44Speaker 2: been there for a long long time. He's going to
- 41:46Speaker 2: be handling that aspect of it. Your role is more
- 41:48Speaker 2: of a director to come in and try to clean
- 41:53Speaker 2: up some things and handle the business aspect of it,
- 41:55Speaker 2: so to speak.
- 41:56Speaker 17: Yeah, this is a teamwork, This is leadership. That's how
- 41:59Speaker 17: it's supposed to be in any business. You know the
- 42:01Speaker 17: old adage. If you're a CEO in a room with
- 42:03Speaker 17: your team, and you're the smartest person in the room,
- 42:05Speaker 17: you're the dumbest CEO.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:08Speaker 17: This is a team effort of everyone coming together. Jason
- 42:12Speaker 17: and I both have strengths, and we don't share those
- 42:15Speaker 17: strengths though. I come in with financial experience. But you know,
- 42:18Speaker 17: budgeting a seventy million dollars County Commission budget when we've
- 42:22Speaker 17: seen political pressure of inflation that's came in and we
- 42:27Speaker 17: had to make tough cuts but didn't cut essential services.
- 42:30Speaker 17: Finding where those efficiencies are that's what we're going to
- 42:33Speaker 17: do at KCA. But we're going to continue to do
- 42:34Speaker 17: what we do best, and that is making sure that
- 42:36Speaker 17: we have the pride and compassion with our employees when
- 42:39Speaker 17: they go out and service the patients that we have
- 42:42Speaker 17: to service and making sure that they get excellent care
- 42:45Speaker 17: and getting them to where they need to be in
- 42:46Speaker 17: the hospital services.
- 42:47Speaker 2: All right, can you hang out with me during the break?
- 42:48Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 42:49Speaker 12: All right.

- 45:15Speaker 2: like the sound of everything he's saying.
- 45:17Speaker 3: That's great.
- 45:17Speaker 2: That's one of our thank you one of the texts

- 45:22Speaker 2: folks in this new role in general, all of you,
- 45:25Speaker 2: the entire team, you got some major issues you got
- 45:29Speaker 2: to contend with and hiring a budget expert like you
- 45:32Speaker 2: are is probably definitely, in my opinion, a great thing
- 45:36Speaker 2: because this, this ambulance, this is a three operating on
- 45:40Speaker 2: a three million dollar a year deficit. Someone has to
- 45:44Speaker 2: come in and fix that.
- 45:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 17: Well, let me say first, when I came in as
- 45:47Speaker 17: a county commissioner, I was pointed to the board of
- 45:50Speaker 17: the Ambulance Authority back in twenty twenty one. We had
- 45:53Speaker 17: a five million dollar deficit then, and so as a
- 45:56Speaker 17: county commissioner, I can't be involved in one agency the
- 46:00Speaker 17: entire time. I have to look at everything going on.
- 46:02Speaker 17: But I was making a lot of focus into that
- 46:04Speaker 17: because that's a five million dollars out of your financial
- 46:07Speaker 17: stabilization every year. I was told that the CACAA had
- 46:11Speaker 17: sixteen months until bankruptcy. Sixteen months and listen, I was
- 46:16Speaker 17: a first time county commissioner and I was sitting there
- 46:18Speaker 17: in the first time on that board meeting.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Well that's what I called. Yeah, and so.
- 46:21Speaker 17: We had to make drastic changes quickly, and some of
- 46:25Speaker 17: that has been very beneficial. We looked at our billing
- 46:27Speaker 17: services and saying, hey, how can we be more efficient
- 46:29Speaker 17: with our billing? We're seeing more billing coming in because
- 46:33Speaker 17: we're just getting the billing correct. We looked at our
- 46:35Speaker 17: tiered response and say, hey, how can we be managing
- 46:38Speaker 17: our fleet system while also knowing that we every call
- 46:42Speaker 17: matters and we have to get to that call. Well,
- 46:43Speaker 17: that tiered response is something that other agencies done nationwide.
- 46:47Speaker 17: And you know what I've always said, Dave, you know
- 46:49Speaker 17: what great minds do they steal? I've never seen a
- 46:52Speaker 17: great idea that I wouldn't steal and use for my own. Sure, right,
- 46:55Speaker 17: that's how we're supposed to work in business, and that's
- 46:57Speaker 17: how we're supposed to adapt. And a lot of those
- 46:59Speaker 17: has tremendous savings. Now there's been inflation that came in. Listen,
- 47:03Speaker 17: we're talking about buying new ambulances. There was deferred maintenance
- 47:06Speaker 17: when I came in. How many ambulances we were short
- 47:09Speaker 17: at that time that we had to buy brand new ambulances.
- 47:11Speaker 17: You know, there's been a lot of hard work to
- 47:13Speaker 17: get us to where we're at right now. And I
- 47:16Speaker 17: think right now we're probably closer to two million dollar deficit,
- 47:19Speaker 17: and I think we're going to get across that finish line.
- 47:22Speaker 3: And my goal is within my.
- 47:23Speaker 17: First year as theutive, the executive director of KCA. We're
- 47:26Speaker 17: going to have a balanced budget because we're going to
- 47:29Speaker 17: work hard.
- 47:29Speaker 19: Now.
- 47:29Speaker 17: I had the opportunity to talk with the chiefs and
- 47:32Speaker 17: Jason yesterday one on one private conversation, and what I
- 47:36Speaker 17: got from that was they are one hundred percent on
- 47:38Speaker 17: board with the vision that I have for KCA. This
- 47:41Speaker 17: is what they've been striving for. This is what they want.
- 47:44Speaker 17: They want transparency, they want efficiency, and they want innovation.
- 47:48Speaker 17: And this is how we're going to work together. It's
- 47:50Speaker 17: not going to be from the top down. It's going
- 47:52Speaker 17: to be a team effort. And some of those policies
- 47:54Speaker 17: that I mentioned, they've been asking for those and they
- 47:56Speaker 17: just hadn't happened for whatever reason. So we're going to
- 47:59Speaker 17: move forward. We're going to have our mission, and our
- 48:01Speaker 17: mission is to heal and save lives. We're going to
- 48:03Speaker 17: have our values, our values of compassion, of honesty, of transparency,
- 48:08Speaker 17: of hard work, and this is what we're going to
- 48:11Speaker 17: tell every single employee when they come into the.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Door to start their shift.
- 48:15Speaker 17: And so they were reminded of those that mission and
- 48:17Speaker 17: those values that when seconds matter and they have to
- 48:20Speaker 17: make a quick decision, they're going to remember that mission.
- 48:22Speaker 17: They're going to remember those values and that's how they're
- 48:24Speaker 17: going to act. That's what we're going to do at
- 48:27Speaker 17: KCA under my leadership.
- 48:28Speaker 2: And of course it the problems. And when I say
- 48:32Speaker 2: the problems, Lance, I want to make sure people realize
- 48:35Speaker 2: my heroes in this world are first responders. We's in
- 48:38Speaker 2: Kennawa County, Putnam County, anywhere in West Virginia, across the country.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I'm not throwing any one on the buzz. I'm saying
- 48:42Speaker 2: that there are issues through no fault of the people
- 48:45Speaker 2: that are I mean, here's here's I'm gonna say something.
- 48:48Speaker 2: This is just my opinion, my opinion. Only the problems
- 48:51Speaker 2: I'm hearing about are not the problems that were caused
- 48:54Speaker 2: by the people that are on those ambulances.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Absolutely not.
- 48:57Speaker 2: It's not it's not they haven't been they they were
- 49:00Speaker 2: not responsible for running up this debt. I don't know
- 49:02Speaker 2: who was. It's not my place. That's true to figure out,
- 49:05Speaker 2: I guess. But when we say these things, I just
- 49:08Speaker 2: don't want people to think that we're throwing first responders
- 49:11Speaker 2: into the bus and saying that it's a mess because
- 49:13Speaker 2: of you. It's a mess, but it's not because of you.
- 49:15Speaker 2: You folks have been doing your job well.
- 49:17Speaker 17: I think what we've seen is that it's a mess
- 49:19Speaker 17: because from my perspective, it's the transparency within the agency
- 49:23Speaker 17: and listening to everyone, no matter what their position is,
- 49:26Speaker 17: no matter what their their paycheck looks like at every
- 49:28Speaker 17: two weeks. It's about listening to boots on the ground,
- 49:31Speaker 17: you know, Dave, When I came in as a county commissioner,
- 49:33Speaker 17: I didn't know about dilapidated instructions, planning and development. But
- 49:37Speaker 17: when I went in there, I learned, I listened, and
- 49:39Speaker 17: we created plans and now we have the largest dilapidated
- 49:42Speaker 17: structure program in the county under my leadership as a
- 49:44Speaker 17: count commissioner. Those are the same management styles that you're
- 49:47Speaker 17: going to see at KCAA. I think it's going to
- 49:50Speaker 17: be much more open, much more honest. I'm going to
- 49:52Speaker 17: have an open door policy with my office, and I
- 49:55Speaker 17: think what we're going to see is we're going to
- 49:57Speaker 17: see a lot.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Of community involvement.
- 49:58Speaker 17: We're going to get involved in the communities showing what
- 50:00Speaker 17: our paramedics, EMTs and everyone does. And we're going to
- 50:03Speaker 17: be able to really show that CASEA and its employees
- 50:06Speaker 17: are absolutely amazing. They're doing wonderful work and you're going
- 50:09Speaker 17: to see at firsthand through all the actions that we do,
- 50:12Speaker 17: not just in our patient care, but through our community
- 50:14Speaker 17: efforts as well.
- 50:15Speaker 2: And I think that, to be honest with you, Lance,
- 50:17Speaker 2: I don't think that the average person, and I'll include
- 50:19Speaker 2: myself and this, the average person has no idea what
- 50:23Speaker 2: ambulance workers and these other people go through on a
- 50:26Speaker 2: regular basis. I mean, from the drug epidemic to getting
- 50:29Speaker 2: attacked by people that you're trying to help, and some
- 50:33Speaker 2: other things that are going on currently. They have no
- 50:35Speaker 2: idea what these first responders go through. And we'll let
- 50:38Speaker 2: you close with that.
- 50:39Speaker 17: Well, I think that that's our story to tell from leadership.
- 50:42Speaker 17: Right every time that I've talked about first responder, whether
- 50:45Speaker 17: it's a volunteer firefighter, whether it's an EMT, whether it's
- 50:48Speaker 17: a police officer, they always tell you the same thing.
- 50:51Speaker 17: I don't want the recognition because that's what I'm supposed
- 50:54Speaker 17: to do. That's what I'm supposed to do is help
- 50:56Speaker 17: people and save lives. So what we're going to do
- 50:58Speaker 17: is tell those stories from leadership, and I think at
- 51:00Speaker 17: the end of the day, people are going to be
- 51:01Speaker 17: very proud of our CASEA and what we do and
- 51:03Speaker 17: the people that they serve.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Lance, I think you're the guy for the job. I
- 51:06Speaker 2: appreciate you being here, thanks to hang out with one sec.
- 51:08Speaker 2: We had a quick text here about whether it be
- 51:10Speaker 2: a special election to replace you on the Commissioner where
- 51:12Speaker 2: someone will be appointed. They will be appointed, so Commissioner's
- 51:16Speaker 2: tenant and Solango basically will have to try to come
- 51:18Speaker 2: to a decision to replace it. If they can't come
- 51:21Speaker 2: to a decision, then I guess the executive can because
- 51:23Speaker 2: you're a Republican, So we'll have to be a Republican
- 51:25Speaker 2: that'll go in from your district and the decision will
- 51:28Speaker 2: be made at that point. So Lance, I appreciate you
- 51:31Speaker 2: being here. Man, thanks a lot, Thanks for having me. Dave,
- 51:32Speaker 2: all right, we got a close I will see you
- 51:34Speaker 2: later today. I'm Metro News midday till later today. Have
- 51:37Speaker 2: fun and love somebody.
- 51:54Speaker 1: A ninety six point five then chal one four point
- 51:57Speaker 1: five cross Lanes telling you VRC Media Station we are
- 52:01Speaker 1: proud to live here too.
