- 0:00I did something kind of stupid just before we started recording I'm not
- 0:03surprised welcome to multiple
- 0:07nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 0:11Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:17Things nerdy I was reading an article and a lot
- 0:23of people for some reason doing covers of songs in The Last of Us two oh yeah
- 0:27I've seen that and one of the ones I've done is H yep so oh I saw this headline annoyed me
- 0:33I think and then I went and watched the music clip for the Johnny Cash cover oh
- 0:38yeah and I got a little I got a little sad yeah man quite Mark romanic directed
- 0:44that and uh he originally didn't intend to have any of that archival footage in
- 0:48there but he found out that he didn't really have enough to cut together of
- 0:53just kind of Johnny sitting around looking sad so he was like well what do
- 0:57I have the right he's too happy um well no I mean he put in a whole
- 1:02bunch of shots of him looking happy 50 years ago and it just suddenly it just
- 1:07suddenly made that clip so sad but you see like his wife's there like watching
- 1:13him as well and she's like nearly in tears and he's and oh my god well I saw
- 1:17the the reason I got annoyed is cuz I saw the headline on some website that
- 1:22said people can't stop covering Johnny Cash's song Hurt in The Last of Us and I
- 1:27was like it's not Johnny Cash's song that was a I think you you'll be proud of me I did
- 1:32call it Johnny Cash's cover yes I know I know except his his version is a lot
- 1:37better uh well it's not um so it's very different just a guy on a
- 1:44guitar just a guy playing doing a cover of a 9 in nail song on guitar and
- 1:49singing it there nothing better about it it's just it's fine I don't know what do
- 1:54you mean I I do think for some reason I like that version a lot better do you
- 1:58like 9in nails I love else apparently you don't what look disrespected him
- 2:04live here on the podcast controversially I mean that's one it's one been one of
- 2:08my favorite songs since the '90s but when when Johnny covered it I thought
- 2:12this he's taken it to a level that Trent never did so really well that's that's
- 2:17the whole thing Trent actually says like it's um he actually thinks that that
- 2:20song's found at home with Johnny Cash he actually thinks his version is better I
- 2:25don't necessarily think it's it's better I mean it's not it's not an arrange it's
- 2:29it's not a better arrange M or you know the musicality is not better I think
- 2:32it's just more powerful he just he just found a sadness in that song that was
- 2:36less self-deprecating than when Trent sings it and and is more just tragic
- 2:41well the way Trent's version of it goes is sort of like a young person sort of
- 2:45turning towards all those bad things whereas Johnny Cash like spins it like
- 2:48he's an old one remembering what's happened what's happened what he's done
- 2:52through throughout his life and H there you go listeners The Secret of a
- 2:56successful cover is to be a sad old man mhm I mean I'm trying to I'm trying to
- 3:01get success by being a sad old man across the board Matt not just with my
- 3:05covers yeah I don't really do covers to be honest you you got a sad old man Tik
- 3:09Tok account yet no I don't I don't have a Tik Tok oh I've deleted Tik Tok I've
- 3:13deleted Tik Tok have you yeah Tik Tok is snooping on your clipboard yes it really
- 3:18is yeah and they admitted it when they got called out on it they like they
- 3:22couldn't help it yeah cuz the new version of iOS has a bunch of uh new
- 3:27security features one of which is it tells you when [ __ ] snooping on your
- 3:30clipboard so Tik Tok was grabbing the contents of your clipboard just to put
- 3:34this into perspective it's it's just it's just grabbing data right it's not
- 3:38actually it doesn't actually care about you or like I keep anytime I see Tik Tok
- 3:45watching you news it's always China is listening and it's like what do you mean
- 3:49by that I mean Tik tok's a privately owned company in China right it's not
- 3:52the Chinese government spy everything's owned by the Chinese government I mean
- 3:56I'm not I'm not particularly think was even really thinking about why or who's
- 4:01doing it but the I mean I use password managers and stuff like that like if you
- 4:05stealing my passwords out of my clipboard [ __ ] off yeah no no I'm not
- 4:09I'm not defending them I'm I'm just uh yeah I don't know I think uh I think
- 4:13you're right to delete it there's no reason no reason at all that Tik Tok
- 4:19needs to take the contents of my like what I'm copying and pasting on my phone
- 4:23like there no reason for that so like I I honestly and they didn't even bother
- 4:28trying to justify it they just said yeah we'll we will stop doing that now that
- 4:31you C us good yeah do that yeah do stop not even like sorry or it was an
- 4:37accident cuz you can't accidentally do that yeah right no they're they're
- 4:41mining for data I mean that's that's my first thought is they're trying to steal
- 4:45people's passwords like what else would they trying to pinch I doubt it's that
- 4:50malicious I think I mean of of course that's I mean they could but but I I I
- 4:56think they're more likely just trying to find sta what are people saying about each other
- 5:01what are they looking at just selling information yeah yeah it could be you
- 5:06know speaking of speaking of things you can do as an old man that you uh you
- 5:09couldn't do when you were young uh I did something this week that I've been
- 5:15trying to do since I was 15 unsuccessfully until now is this is this
- 5:20something Marilyn Manson could do due to having some ribs yeah that's right I've
- 5:24got I've got massively less chance of doing that now I tell you than I
- 5:30I had no chance back then and I've got less of a chance now um no I something
- 5:36popped into my head the other day that I hadn't thought about in a long time
- 5:40decades even and I thought I'll give that a try and to my surprise and
- 5:45Delight I apparently can now after 20
- 5:50plus 30 maybe years of trying I Can Do
- 5:53Magic eyes oh you know the the like the posters where you got to relax your eyes
- 5:59see the 3D image never did them had a book in my house my entire family could
- 6:04see it and they were like H look a sailboat and I was like what the [ __ ]
- 6:08are you talking about I've never been able to do them so I guess maybe I
- 6:12should try then try it now you think it's because do you think maybe it's
- 6:15because your eyes are going is yeah maybe no actually it's because so
- 6:19there's a bunch Google image search you find you find heaps right basically once
- 6:23you train your eye to do one you can see as many as you want like you just know
- 6:28how to do it and there there's one that you can get so if you Google it and you
- 6:32want to really do it Google Magic Eye with guides right and it's actually got
- 6:38two dots above the picture and it says Focus your eyes here and then it kind of
- 6:43makes you a tiny bit cross-eyed and then it says okay now glance down in the
- 6:46middle of the picture with your eyes still in that direction and when you do
- 6:52your eyes are at the right place to see it and then once you've seen one you
- 6:54kind of know how to do it but I was always so jealous of people yeah I can't
- 6:58do them either I've always been able to do it but I've always found them pretty
- 7:03disappointing I wonder if this know oh is this the one with the it's got like
- 7:07the flowers and then you place your finger out so you to gently pull them
- 7:11apart pull my eyes apart all right
- 7:17then well now I can't see anything yeah that's the magic of
- 7:22eyes that's interesting it does still it ends up hurting your eyes though because
- 7:26forcing yourself not to focus is quite painful because it's actually you're
- 7:31you're looking at one focal plane but you're focused on a different imaginary
- 7:37focal plane behind that yeah okay and yes it is it is awful on your eyes yeah
- 7:43my eyes aren't where they used to be anyway why still all right I think I
- 7:47don't have glasses or anything yeah you two have managed to avoid uh I have no
- 7:51idea how yeah I was going to say of all of all the people I would have thought
- 7:54luk could have glasses well I mean we all spend a lot of time looking at
- 7:58screens I mean the optometrist say ruin my eyes oh yes looking at screens yeah
- 8:03yeah I'm surrounded by him why is Luke looking so Shifty do you not look at
- 8:07screens yeah I know we really don't know what you do for a living do we no no no
- 8:12no I was I was doing the whole joke of like another reason why you oh right I'm
- 8:16sorry I can't see you I can't see you
- 8:21mate no no no cuz I'm always screen I used to read in the dark I used to be
- 8:26like yeah I've treated my eyes terribly and they still work I mean surely
- 8:30reading in the eyes reading in the eyes reading in the dark strengthens your
- 8:34eyes right I mean like going to the gym no apparently not apparently puts
- 8:38unnecessary strain on them that's what they used to tell us anyway but they
- 8:42also say like don't sit close to your screen they of dumb stuff yeah I don't
- 8:46think they know they say the sun gives you cancer okay I'll stay out of the sun
- 8:49then will I yeah yeah it's just and then you get in trouble cuz you don't have
- 8:53enough vitamin D yeah I'll give you them vitamin D promises promises I've told
- 9:00Tim Cook that he can go [ __ ] himself and I've bought myself a PC I said I was
- 9:06going to do it welcome I said I was true is this this your first PC the last PC
- 9:12that I owned uh was not my own it was my dad so I've never owned one and it was a
- 9:18Pentium 100 and the last windows that I
- 9:22used was Windows 95 yuck so I assume it's wow I assume it's the same is it
- 9:28yeah yeah exactly good good I'll remember how to use it then exactly yeah
- 9:33giant icons on a low resolution screen yeah 15in monitor I had with that Penny
- 9:39and one 15 in was pretty good it was good because everyone else had a 14in
- 9:45that I knew and then Dad brought home the 15 I was like [ __ ] yeah I
- 9:50remember Dave Dave always had the better stuff first so he always got I mean he
- 9:56got a 17-in monitor and I was like [ __ ] in felt awfully big Zing playing vampire
- 10:02the Masquerade Redemption oh yeah on his overclocked Pentium 300 or something
- 10:07mate I was I was playing that on my my power MAAC G4 oh yeah which wasn't meant
- 10:14to be able to play it out all yeah well I'm sure I've told this
- 10:18stupid story before but I actually I used to um because you know with Windows
- 10:2195 it ran on top of Doss so you yeah no it wasn't 95 it was Windows 3.1 Windows
- 10:283.1 had um ex extended memory uh like virtual memory and so I could trick my
- 10:34computer into thinking it had enough RAM to play Duke Nukem 3D oh except it would
- 10:39it was using Ram like it was using swap space and so it was unplayable but it
- 10:45worked and you played it a lot and cuz I as a kid I was kind of more interested
- 10:50in making it work than playing the game for some reason like oh yeah yeah yeah
- 10:55yeah man I had a I had a shareware version of that for so many years um
- 11:00that only played the first three levels and I played them so often that now I
- 11:05can put it on 30 years later and just just just know it just do it just play
- 11:10it know where every enemy is know where every item is it's like Doom first few
- 11:14levels of Doom I'm just like there's a guy over there the first Doom or Doom
- 11:18two but yeah the second you get to the part where you had to have paid for paid
- 11:21for the game I've got no idea I've got less than an idea I was more familiar
- 11:24with Doom 2 than Doom one I think I know Doom two better oh sure hell on Earth H
- 11:30but yeah got myself a PC laptop what' you get what' you get what' you get
- 11:34what'd you get so after uh after thinking a lot and a lot of deliberation
- 11:39I have ended up uh with I figured since I'm going to be on Windows I might as
- 11:45well get myself a Microsoft machine so I've ended up with the uh the surface
- 11:50laptop 15 in cool I'm theard about what specs to get ended up thinking I should
- 11:57probably future proof and uh so I I basically got the the most speced out
- 12:01one that is available here cool you know so it's not a hardcore gaming laptop or
- 12:07anything like that but it's certainly going to no no but it should play some
- 12:10stuff yeah it should certainly going to play a lot more than my [ __ ] Mac
- 12:13players that's for sure you'll be probably be surprised about what it can
- 12:17play cuz it's not like 20 years ago where if you didn't upgrade your
- 12:22computer within 3 months you could play the next game games now you can buy a
- 12:26computer it's good for 3 years yeah and honestly like I'm I'm going to still be
- 12:30using my console for most of my gaming you know it's really just Steam games
- 12:36and and and that kind of thing that I'm interested in stuff that you you can't
- 12:40play on the cockbox yeah like disco alium yeah well it's funny you say that
- 12:45Luke because I'm actually playing that again uh we mentioned last week that we
- 12:50discovered there was a hardcore mode I decided to give it a go mhm um how's
- 12:55that going worth it just because when you when you actually click the Box on
- 12:59the hardcore you hear Kuno go hardcore and uh that makes you feel good so yeah
- 13:05um try that it's difficult it's difficult it's basically uh nothing nothing gives you
- 13:11skill points so oh you just very very rarely have anything that you can
- 13:18upgrade so you're basically just relying on making good choices in your
- 13:23conversation trees and trying making sure you're wearing the right clothes yeah yeah um
- 13:30[Applause]
- 14:29that I'm playing as anyway so it's interesting did you see I want it's a
- 14:33spoilery question that I want to ask spoil away all right spoilers for discoi just
- 14:39skip ahead a little bit if you don't want to hear discoi SPO spoiler there's
- 14:42not going to be much to it I don't think but I want to know did you did you find
- 14:45it did you you found it the and a pict it photo with it yeah yeah you get a
- 14:51photo with it yeah yeah I did I did and um man the people online that haven't
- 14:58cuz it's not a given that you find that CU people are people are on the forums on
- 15:03Reddit just going what the [ __ ] are you guys talking about man I got a a photo
- 15:08with it yeah Kim was Kim was [ __ ] beside himself yeah yeah yeah a did you
- 15:14that's spoiler that just makes me want to play the game more did you show
- 15:17anyone the photo yeah at the end yeah yeah yeah I'm going to be
- 15:24famous so now that you've played it Matt um there's something that happened to me
- 15:28the first playthrough that didn't happen to me in the second one at all and
- 15:32hasn't happened to me the third time yet so far and that is did you get the urge
- 15:38to masturbate and have to decide whether or not to whip your [ __ ] out and jerk
- 15:43off in front of Kim and everyone else who was around I did not okay
- 15:48so the first time around I think it's because cuz the order that you do things
- 15:54depend like determines what missions you get as well because okay the first first
- 15:59time I played it it took me ages to find my badge so I couldn't prove to the
- 16:03union rep that I was a cop right so she said that she would only give the
- 16:07information that I wanted if I found out who was dealing drugs out of the lorries
- 16:12right and I haven't done that since because I found my ID early enough that
- 16:17that does doesn't come up right so while I was going through the lorries I found
- 16:21out because this is a traffic jam for those who don't know the the entire game
- 16:24happens on two city blocks right you can't go to the north because there's a
- 16:29factory that's closed and there's strike workers picketing outside there's a
- 16:34traffic jam of of lorries to one end and then for most of the game there's a
- 16:39there's a bridge out on the other end you can't go anywhere yeah while going
- 16:42through the lorries I found a postcard that was a pinup girl did you find that
- 16:47I don't think so yeah so it's only when you do certain things that you even can
- 16:51get into this one particular truck to look around I found this Fu me now I got
- 16:54to play the game I found this card and I kept carrying it around with me and
- 16:58every now and again take it out and look at it right and um at one point at one
- 17:04point my psyche started saying to me you're just you're just too aroused now
- 17:09you you're going to have to you're going to have to release some of this tension
- 17:12and he's and he's like but but Kim's right here and and it's like doesn't
- 17:17matter doesn't matter he'll understand and I was like no I'm not going to
- 17:21[ __ ] do it so I didn't do it and I lost health and morale for not doing it
- 17:26I almost died because I didn't didn't want to masturbate in
- 17:31public oh man what a game on the hard cord mode could you do it see what
- 17:35happens I'll see well I haven't I haven't encountered that that mission
- 17:39yet so we'll we'll see what happens what a [ __ ] well it's so good that every
- 17:42now it's getting a television series yeah don't know how I feel about this I
- 17:47know I saw the headline and I was like that can't be real no it's I mean that's
- 17:50that's the that's the story it's becoming a it's being adapted by the guy
- 17:56who uh produced the Sonic the Hedgehog movie there's quite a bit to unpack here
- 18:02look this is a runaway hit I can understand why Hollywood's trying to
- 18:05jump on it I can understand like the fact that they're doing it as a
- 18:08television show over a movie though yeah definitely from why you guys explain I
- 18:12think it makes more sense as a movie although I would have said same I would
- 18:15have said the same about uh Watchmen and that show was [ __ ] disgraceful I just
- 18:20don't I don't think you can make this into a I mean I mean sure I'm sure they
- 18:24will and like it can be done but it's not going to be the same you think maybe
- 18:29they'll try one of those things like uh Choose Your Own Adventure oh I hope they
- 18:34don't honestly it already is that because it's you like you know you don't
- 18:40Dodge things you don't jump there's no levels this is essentially an
- 18:43interactive story so they've already got that and uh you could do a film of this
- 18:49if you did like a kind of Jacob's Ladder you know like Dream Within A Dream weird
- 18:54hazy nightmare type thing you you could do it but the fact that they're like oh
- 18:59who's who's done a who's done a an adaptation of a of a video game recently
- 19:04oh let's get the Sonic guy to do it yeah I just don't see the the reason that it
- 19:11works is because you have to choose from these ridiculous options that are not
- 19:16none of none thing you choose in it is the ideal solution and that's part of
- 19:20the charm of the game for me is that like right here's three [ __ ] options
- 19:24which one do you want to go with and then just [ __ ] watch This Disaster at
- 19:27one point was playing it earlier today I had a couple of options and the last
- 19:32option were seriously you're not going to give me any other
- 19:37options so I don't I don't see how you can capture that aspect of it and for me
- 19:42that's that's what it is that's the CU that'll go and it'll just be
- 19:46superficially the story of you have cop going around yeah yeah and if you want
- 19:52that there is a very good movie already called [ __ ] I'm going to have to Google
- 19:57this Paul BL oh I want to talk about Paul BL in one sec too actually oh [ __ ] really yeah
- 20:03yeah yeah yeah I actually do was not expecting that to go anywhere no um I'd
- 20:07forgotten that but it's saved here uh so remind me about Paul BL in just a sec
- 20:11but I want to talk about I'm just gonna I'm trying to remember just going to
- 20:15look up waen Phoenix and look up a movie he did a couple of years ago called
- 20:21someone's yelling at their [ __ ] iPhone right now on the bus sorry about
- 20:26this it's called is that what that noise is it's called inherent Vice and
- 20:32inherent Vice inherent VI it's good I suggest you you do watch it it's set in
- 20:36the 70s in LA and it's uh it's got Wen
- 20:40Phoenix as a drug [ __ ] detective who uh gets himself uh in over his head when
- 20:46he tries to investigate uh stuff and uh weirdness bu up on weirdness and it's
- 20:51kind of like what this would be if you didn't control it and if you weren't
- 20:55inside his mind if you just want to watch a story like this then this is it
- 20:59yeah I just don't think I mean look that does sound good and I'm I mean maybe the
- 21:05TV series will be good but I don't I just don't see the point of it it's not
- 21:09going to be the same I don't think I don't see how it could be so why bother
- 21:14well Mak make something else what I'm getting the impression of because they
- 21:17haven't found like who's going to stream it they've got to right it just to me it
- 21:21sounds like the producer just like the game and wants to expand it I like the
- 21:26game I still don't want it to be a TV series mhm yeah I just don't
- 21:31see but wait and see the whole way the story unfolds the whole way like the
- 21:35world the way the world is and all that kind of stuff it's not it's not even it
- 21:39doesn't make sense like it's not I just I don't see how it's going to work
- 21:46anyway you never know Matt did you tell her that it was beautiful when you saw
- 21:51it oh yeah yeah such a such an amazing
- 21:55moment I didn't expect it I'll be honest no no even though there's a couple of
- 22:02people telling you it's there y yeah uh I I have I've gone back to a game we
- 22:07talked about this briefly and I'm not going to mention it too much but I did
- 22:11go back to a game I uh I was looking for something to pick up after I finished uh
- 22:17what did I finish I think I just didn't feel like playing on my computer anymore
- 22:20probably played witch 3 for the seventh time yeah no I've gone back to Red Dead
- 22:24Redemption 2 after playing it for I guess a couple of hours I was like
- 22:30oh I'm I'm addicted again okay really okay that's great Matt's in cowboy mode
- 22:36yeah I got I noticed I I I figured out how to get to the so there there is no
- 22:42one corrected me on this there is a quest log is it uh yeah it's just not
- 22:48you if you tap the left d-pad button it comes up with the quest log and then you
- 22:52can look at there's like quests and um you know challenges and other stuff in
- 22:57there so there's that you can fast travel I don't know whether that's
- 23:01something I just unlocked at some point or if they patched the game but yeah I
- 23:03can fast travel [ __ ] anywhere what oh you can now cuz I remember how do you
- 23:08fast travel yeah you you make a camp yeah and then from the camp you can
- 23:12travel in I feel like that's how it worked in Red Dead Redemption it was so
- 23:15you can travel places that you have had a camp or you can travel to anywhere
- 23:19you've been to believe where we wagons like stage coaches drop off yeah I think
- 23:26so well no not even cuz you ride your horse there you just choose they named
- 23:31locations like for example I could say uh take me to Valentine and it'll show
- 23:37he'll he'll kick the fire out and then it'll show like a little Montage as it's
- 23:40loading and then it'll show a little video of him riding the horse into town
- 23:44with the wide screen bars and then the bars are lifting and then I'm there okay
- 23:48so that the game starts off very slow and then you unlock that where you can
- 23:51actually sort of Jump Around the map a bit faster and then at the it slows down
- 23:56again at the end see I don't know when at what point it unlocked it just it's
- 23:59just there it's it's always been there but a lot of the time you still you just
- 24:04end up riding where you're going I I do I found because you encounter stuff like
- 24:10I found no spoilers please cuz I'm kind of getting into this again right so I I
- 24:14solved the The Mystery of the serial killer oh so did you yeah oh okay I did
- 24:20that last night and then also the one I'm on the trail of now is the night
- 24:24folk I don't know if you've encountered that no this [ __ ]
- 24:29I don't know I don't want to spoil now I want to play this again I'm riding
- 24:32through the bi the bio Bou mhm and then there's this [ __ ] man hung from a
- 24:37tree just in the in the road and I'm like the [ __ ] so I I stop and I'm
- 24:41looking at it and then I get off the horse and I'm like the [ __ ] going on
- 24:46and then all of a sudden these [ __ ] people with like painted faces come
- 24:52charging out of the [ __ ] swamp so I'm like [ __ ] so I'm shooting them all I'm
- 24:56like what the [ __ ] is going on so I I shoot the guy down and he's got this
- 24:59piece of paper that says they're no longer in my dreams they've come for me
- 25:03in the in in the waking world the night great so I'm like holy [ __ ] okay I'm
- 25:07into it yeah see that stuff's cool but
- 25:12like I just remember 15 sequences where I'm just like riding around with some
- 25:17sheriff and he's telling me all about the town I'm going to and I just yeah
- 25:21it's a great I was playing and then I went back to camp and Dutch was like
- 25:24Arthur can I speak to you and I like no busy about the main quest don't I'm
- 25:30looking for all the weird love crafty and stuff that's out there okay no time
- 25:34unless you got some creepy [ __ ] for me Dutch I'm not interested but yeah you
- 25:37can't play just pick it up play for half an hour and put it down you have to give
- 25:41it you have to sit down and be prepared to give it a few hours of your life each
- 25:44time yeah I hunted a legendary bear o finally back went back inside and played
- 25:50a bit of red dead that's right but yeah you once now
- 25:55that I've like got the controls I feel like I just need to [ __ ] finish the
- 25:58game before I don't play it for a couple of months come back and I'm like how the
- 26:01[ __ ] do I reload my gun like interesting yeah well exactly right like the muscle
- 26:07memory for the controls is back now so okay so I've been playing disco elesium
- 26:11again Matt's been playing Red Dead Again Luke what have you been
- 26:16playing um sort of nothing what I don't believe
- 26:22you all right I I have played a couple of games yeah come on man finished a
- 26:27couple of games he just doesn't want to admit what they are oh whatever a I'm
- 26:31actually start playing hentai game or something just for the achievements been
- 26:35playing resent Evil 5 on the PC okay oh yeah cuz Resident Evil 5 isn't that the
- 26:41terrible one in Haiti yes it is terrible but I found out that on Steam you can
- 26:47actually install a cop a version of it that you still get Xbox
- 26:53achievements so play that is it at least is it at least easy oh no it's not no no
- 26:58no it's actually it's easy to play It's the game is easy it's just hard to play
- 27:03because it's so terrible right okay yeah like the controls are bad the story is
- 27:09bad it was such a shame that that series went off the rails because the first
- 27:12couple of Resident Evil games were great
- 27:16mhm um I I've got seven Seven's evidently meant to be really good but
- 27:21it's nothing like the other games like it's you're some crazy familyes trying
- 27:26to kill you or something I we have that actually Jenna was playing that I just
- 27:30remembered we have the disc for that somewhere somewhere yeah I was actually
- 27:34thinking of relooking at an older game the The Mad Max game and uh I love and
- 27:40but but I realized yeah it was good it was good and I started thinking I never
- 27:44finished that did you guys finish it no me either yeah but I was oh you did of
- 27:48course um but I was thinking get an achievement for finishing it I'd have to
- 27:52literally go looking for the disc you know oh that's right you're still buying
- 27:56discs aren't you no I mean I'm not haven't for years but at that point I
- 28:00was that might have been the last one I bought it isn't it on Game Pass is that
- 28:03how I was playing it um no I don't think it is I must own it earlier than
- 28:08that do you guys want to know why I have some followup Paul Blart mop news oh
- 28:13yeah sorry yes yes I don't really have any news uh per se but uh a third one or
- 28:20something no no no no I watched the film uh this week called Becky uh which is
- 28:26pretty good it's a horror oh is this one where he's like a stalker or something
- 28:30he's a Neo-Nazi this is Kevin James who's SE poster I think guy who's in all
- 28:37the [ __ ] Adam Sandler and that other guy King of Queens is
- 28:43that the show you in is that the one one of those shows yeah something like that
- 28:47generally unfunny guy um and certainly unfunny in this except it's not a comedy
- 28:53he's uh he's got a shaved head and an enormous bushy beard and SW sck a tattoo
- 28:58on his neck and he's [ __ ] terrifying and apparently he's a really good actor
- 29:05he apparently he's really a Neo method actor they just they didn't
- 29:11put the makeup on him this time they just took the makeup off his neck but
- 29:15this movie also has Joel mcale in it it this this plays out like a super low
- 29:19budget it's no no no it's a horror movie it's like a slasher horror Thriller the
- 29:24premise is some NE Ruben neo-nazis escaped from prison and they they hide
- 29:30out in this house in the woods so careful Matt cuz you got a house in the
- 29:35woods where's you nearest prison [ __ ] prison would have a clue yeah well find
- 29:40out where it is um yeah and they take the whole family hostage except this one
- 29:44little girl called Becky is outside and so it basically turns into an adult
- 29:48version of Home Alone uh where she slowly murders uh all of the criminals
- 29:53yeah Nazis yeah yeah right it's good okay yeah I liked it is John M Neo-Nazi
- 29:58in it I wish he was a Neo-Nazi we do have we have some racism
- 30:04Community news though oh we do yeah you want to Segway to that this is a this a weird
- 30:10one it is weird but also I understand and in fact this is what we've been
- 30:16talking about in the past where Luke for example has said there's nothing
- 30:21inherently wrong with painting your face black other than the
- 30:26context yes so in community on the I guess the D and D
- 30:31episode famous episode one of yeah it's
- 30:35um a chang wears he he dresses as a as a
- 30:40dark elf yeah so he's painted his skin like and the whole joke in that is he's
- 30:46taken all this time to get into character and that's going to be who he
- 30:49is and he dies in the first 30 seconds like that's the whole joke yeah yeah
- 30:53that he's sort of committed so much and to to be clear he's not he's not
- 30:57portraying afrian am
- 31:00he's jet black elf um but of course
- 31:05it's I mean they're not idiots so they obviously knew it was a provocative
- 31:08image but then again his yeah can I just say I we watched through Community
- 31:15recently we put it back from the first and we're like why did we stop watching
- 31:19this this Show's great it's like really really great for two seasons and then
- 31:23it's next level awful as soon as Jeff becomes a teacher at the school and the
- 31:28study group becomes a committee yeah the whole thing is quite
- 31:33weird cuz with that like um oh what's his name Pierce um why can I not
- 31:37remember his name oh um Chevy Chase Chevy Chase evidently he did not get
- 31:42along well with um people on that show like a f he got I saw there's an
- 31:48interview with Dan Haron about that and then he was saying how Chevy Chase
- 31:53apparently didn't know that he wasn't getting along with everybody and so
- 31:56there was this Awkward Moment where Chevy Chase had this big meltdown
- 31:59because he felt like someone should have said something H because he didn't
- 32:05realize he was being a prick but that's one of things where he he's sort of been
- 32:09famous for that his entire career just doesn't understand even once when he
- 32:15went back to host Saturday Night Live like he got in a fist fight with Bill
- 32:19Murray before it went on and that's why he was never allowed
- 32:23back cuz CU you know Dan harmer does that podcast now the reason actually the
- 32:27reason he told told the story is because the reason he does the podcast now is
- 32:30because he used to just do the do them live at this little venue in New York
- 32:35and somebody recorded the one where he told the story about how everyone did
- 32:40disliked Chevy Chase on set and Chevy Chase saw it and got upset cuz he was
- 32:45like why didn't you tell me and then they had that big falling out or
- 32:48something like that that's my that's I think that's what he said any I think he
- 32:51still does his podcast live right yes yeah yeah no he does but that's why he
- 32:56started doing it because he was like well if people are going to record it
- 32:59I'll self share it that way if I say something dumb it's my fault that it got
- 33:03out yeah can I I I don't want to get controversial here right but I just want
- 33:09to say something that I noticed this week that actually surprised me uh did
- 33:14you go did you guys know and you probably did the four men who have been
- 33:17charged with the George Floyd killing yes only two of them are white one of
- 33:23them is Asian and one of them is African-American yeah I did not know
- 33:28that I just assumed it was like four Hillbillies no yeah I heard a pretty
- 33:33compelling argument that that it seems like they didn't mean to kill him
- 33:37they're just useless is what seems to be the the takeaway here like and this
- 33:44happens often enough that it's like they need more training like yeah it comes
- 33:49down to like really does seem a lot of time that excessive use of force has
- 33:54happen more with people of color than white and even you see in like the
- 33:57shooting things that happen like a mass shooting if they're white they seem to
- 34:01be captured but then you get someone pulled over having no weapon on them not
- 34:06done anything wrong and they end up getting shot yeah well there was another
- 34:10case where this similar thing happened but it was a white guy but they were
- 34:14restraining him by sitting on him and he died and they just apparently too
- 34:21[ __ ] stupid to realize you can't crush a man without killing him yeah
- 34:26like and then it's possible that in this Cas too like so in other words there
- 34:30there is racism of course but also there's just incompetence It's a
- 34:33combination of yes racism combined with just complete lack of understanding
- 34:37about how much force is acceptable and how much you're going to [ __ ] kill
- 34:41somebody well I know this the psychiatric medicine industry is
- 34:44picketing for police to not be able to get involved when people with mental
- 34:50illness are yeah are you know uh I don't know even how to phrase it are getting
- 34:57getting into trouble um because but they're basically saying
- 35:02they shouldn't be treated like other criminals that it's a very specific case
- 35:05and you're not in any way trained to deal with it yeah and it seems like
- 35:08there's a lot of situations that are not actually really trained to deal with
- 35:12well because the other thing too is and like I hadn't thought of this but as a
- 35:15as a and this doesn't apply to George Floyd case at all but in in a lot of
- 35:20situations um the thing to remember that I I guess I'd never thought of this in
- 35:24the US anybody could have a gun and if a cop gets involved in a fight of any sort
- 35:28or an altercation the first thing that they're going to think of is I've got a
- 35:32[ __ ] gun like this person could get my gun and and then so it's just a
- 35:37factor that's not there and say like the UK or something where they don't well I
- 35:40mean besides that M it's a gun culture you know like yeah anybody anybody else
- 35:45could have one and you've got one so if you get into a fight even a fist fight
- 35:48like if someone punches a cop out well now there's a [ __ ] gun available yeah
- 35:52like oh yeah I never thought of that there needs to be some real [ __ ]
- 35:57changes then probably there won't be but we'll see I think one of the changes
- 36:00that they're pushing forward now and I think a few Place actually starting to
- 36:03sign off on it is Police won't be going
- 36:06out to sort of non-criminal things like noise complaints and things like that
- 36:13actually trying to bring up like other things other services to go out to
- 36:17things like that and then cops go out for hey there someone robbing this place
- 36:21instead of hey my neighbor's being a bit loud or that's such a simple but great
- 36:27idea isn't it because I mean like all of these things that as you say noise
- 36:32complaints and stuff that's what they start off as and then someone freaks out
- 36:36cuz they got meth in the house and then they start acting all Shifty and then
- 36:40someone gets shot yeah whereas that wouldn't happen if the person who came
- 36:44out has the authority to tell you to turn off your [ __ ] music but doesn't
- 36:48have the authority to search your house for meth well you've actually even seen
- 36:51times where people have called the police cuz there have been people sort
- 36:54of outside they've gone outside to meet the police and then they've been shot
- 36:58yes yeah that one of the one of the case one of the the the cases that people are
- 37:04tweeting about a lot Bri Taylor yes she got shot because the cops burst into the
- 37:09wrong house it was a no knock thing they burst in they didn't
- 37:13announce themselves busted in and then boyfriend shot at them cuz he didn't
- 37:18know what the [ __ ] was going on and then she got shot because a bunch of guys
- 37:22wearing all black burst into the room with guns this gu's panicked and tried
- 37:26to defend himself mhm shot and then they've killed her wow and it was wrong
- 37:32house the person that they were even looking for was already in custody wow
- 37:36yeah [ __ ] up I've noticed something odd that I that I think is odd in the
- 37:40last couple of weeks I would expect to
- 37:43see absolutely no cases of police
- 37:48shooting black people because if I was a cop even if I was a racist cop I
- 37:54wouldn't be [ __ ] touching my gun at the moment guys we should probably dial
- 37:57back on it for a little while exactly I'm surprised a memo hasn't gone around
- 38:02like do not do it but it but it's still happens but but then I guess that just
- 38:06shows how how often it happen I read a quote the other day that says police
- 38:11haven't just started shooting back black people police have just started being
- 38:16filmed shooting black people well it's one of those things like watching the
- 38:19show Cops watching the Australian version is very different to watching
- 38:23the American version yeah you watch the american one the guns are out from the
- 38:28second there's a there's a call and all that in Australia like get guys walking
- 38:32up like what's going on here cultural I think it's like like you said it's a gun
- 38:36culture where anybody could have a gun so you just need to get on top of things
- 38:39kind of well Australian have guns but they're not allowed to use them I
- 38:44wouldn't want to be a cop here man [ __ ] hell that's the thing in America
- 38:47there's a good chance that the person you're pulled over they could have a gun
- 38:51that's why that's why tensions are already [ __ ] yeah yeah exactly
- 38:58whereas in Australia cop yeah you don't really have to go for your gun as much
- 39:02because well you can get guns here it's not as easy cuz I do think like if
- 39:07you're a cop and someone's [ __ ] doing something and you suspect they're going
- 39:13to get violent with you what are you supposed to do like I'm just I wouldn't
- 39:18want to be no you're right I'm glad I'm not a cop too I'm glad I'm not a cop uh
- 39:23some reform that's already started happening uh around the world uh a
- 39:28couple of recastings the uh the white guy who plays Cleveland in uh yes Family
- 39:34Guy and Cleveland show has stepped down uh H gazaria has stepped down from
- 39:38playing upu which I think happened already but that's uh yeah he did it a
- 39:42little while there's document about the problem with a pooo right and then y the
- 39:47uh the Archbishop of Canterbury came out this week and admitted for the first
- 39:51time in the history of the church that maybe Jesus wasn't white and that they
- 39:57can think about having different nationalities possibly even a middle
- 40:01eastern depiction of Jesus so that's good Oh you mean like the the the way
- 40:06that he would have actually might have actually been yeah yeah yeah just yeah I
- 40:10say yeah I'm being careful because don't know whether he really existed or not
- 40:14but um but if he did he he was the Middle Eastern certainly if we know
- 40:18anything about him it's that he was he was from the mid unless unless it really was a
- 40:24miracle and uh a one [ __ ] you think there'd be a a mention of that
- 40:30right because actually that that point in the Bible immaculate conception could
- 40:34look like anything when they're in the Olive Grove of and the centurions arrive
- 40:39to arrest him and and they say which one is he and and Judas has to point him out
- 40:44by kissing him but which I never really understood he he could have just pointed
- 40:48and said that's him there but if one guy was just ly white he probably could have
- 40:52just been like it's the white Jesus look like Kuno the [ __ ] does Jesus care
- 41:00yeah he not white no not white so on
- 41:03that same note L'Oreal the Cosmetics uh company have decided to remove the word
- 41:09whitening as a plus from all of their uh creams do you remember that stuff they
- 41:15sold over at the Zam Zam Market in Orbin the the MH whitening everywhere here
- 41:21skin Whitener everywhere here yeah really that was weird people here never
- 41:27seen that before I saw I saw it in this on the shelf and I picked it up and I'm
- 41:32like well that can't be what I what it sounds like I'm I'm just projecting some
- 41:35weird thing where I think everything's funny and then I'm looking at it reading
- 41:39it I'm like no this this is like they sell that and it's it's less to do with
- 41:45wanting to look like a white person and it's more to do with their cast system
- 41:50of oh in India in the Middle East basically there's this hierarchy
- 41:54depending on how dark you are and they kind of filters down here too and people
- 41:59stay out of the sun here because they don't want to tan everyone's desperately
- 42:02trying to avoid tanning over here um because they want to be as pale as
- 42:06possible which is the opposite of Australia but we grew up with people
- 42:08trying to be you know they're getting
- 42:10here as well yeah which yeah snail serum
- 42:16apparently is the best skin whitening you you everywhere here every
- 42:22shop cosmetic shop you go I've heard of that yeah I don't need it no no we don't
- 42:28no one needs it nobody needs it be whatever color you are and let's stop
- 42:32beating each other up about it yeah I couldn't get any wider I don't mean that
- 42:38as a flex I'm just saying you're quite white
- 42:42I um I was told once by a little girl uh that I was actually
- 42:48Peach oh sure we we did a shoot where we
- 42:51had kids and um and one of them was looking at me she was a m girl and so
- 42:58she was very dark and she was kind of looking at me scrutinizing me then ran
- 43:03off to her bag where she was playing with crayons and she like went through
- 43:07them until she found the exact right one and ran back to me and said this is the
- 43:12color you are and it was Peach that's funny
- 43:17yeah adorable the uh the other there's
- 43:21another show that got episodes pulled uh and I thought quite a few actually this
- 43:26is interesting well this is little different um South Park on HBO Max but
- 43:30somebody noticed that there are five episodes missing and they are the
- 43:33episodes that feature Muhammad mate I'm I'm surprised only five South Parks have
- 43:37gone well that's it's only those ones apparently so I was like that's
- 43:42interesting uh I mean obviously we can all we can all we know why they don't
- 43:48like it when you depict the The Profit well I guess just a weird thing to to
- 43:53concede at this point I I think the difference there is all the jokes cuz
- 43:57South Park are famous for making fun of anybody and everybody so they say this
- 44:02we don't just hate this one class or this one race or this one social group
- 44:07we will make fun of anything that we think is funny um got away with fun of
- 44:12the race or the social group they're making fun of well sometimes they do
- 44:17well yeah but they're also making fun of how they're trying to be clever about it
- 44:23and often they are speak but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't don't make
- 44:27jokes about how you can't depict Muhammad they just depict Muhammad so
- 44:33they just don't give a [ __ ] yeah so it's it's not it's not that they've made a
- 44:36joke about oh isn't it funny you I mean they they have but they've done it by
- 44:40just being like here's Muhammad so I I can understand why that is slightly
- 44:44different than just you know like animating the you know the zenu myth and
- 44:51saying this is what scientologists actually think it feels like it is more
- 44:55of a middle finger comedy podcast Luke I've got some comedy for
- 45:01you um okay Luke you've you if you're
- 45:05you're nothing if not an ideas man right mhm um I would go as far as saying an
- 45:11inventor of sorts you haven't actually invented anything but you no I come up
- 45:16with the ideas and someone else hands but you you've come up with some great
- 45:19ideas and I've got a new challenge for you know you you wanted that controller
- 45:23that you control with your dick and you know we actually had some pretty good
- 45:26Des for that sent in um there's another competition not done by us this one's done by
- 45:32NASA and uh nassa uh are going to put people on the moon uh they're going to
- 45:39they're going to keep them up there actually for for a little while do it
- 45:42again they're going to live up there and um and they're they're going to need to
- 45:46uh use the facilities except there ain't no facilities so I think they're overco
- 45:50complicating this just go wh everywh you want mate it's the moon you don't got
- 45:57some gravity find aat some gravity exactly you don't you're not going to
- 46:01have the plumbing and everything set up just get a bucket away you go mhm you
- 46:06fill it up then you take it outside and you recycle it or whatever you're going
- 46:09to do with it you take it outside and you and you throw it and it slowly
- 46:13floats away look Luke into space these These are the answers they want this is
- 46:17the exact kind of conversations they're having with each other right now and
- 46:19they are willing to pay $35,000 of prize money to the person who
- 46:25comes up with the best way management proposal for the moon and I'm not being
- 46:30I'm not being silly by saying I think they're over complicated cuz n have been
- 46:34known to do this before remember when they had to design a pen that would work
- 46:37in space and then they asked the Russians what they did they went we just Ed a
- 46:40pencil yeah yeah they're doing the same thing here they're trying they've got a
- 46:45very simple problem that they're over complicating you think they're going to
- 46:49solve they're going to go out with this toilet and someone's going to go what do
- 46:51you think of that Russia and Russia's going to be like we just [ __ ] in a
- 46:54bucket throw it into space like it it really depends on how long
- 46:59they're going to be there we don't eat while we're up there mate we just hold
- 47:02it in yeah wait how do they poop now in okay so they do have toilets in the
- 47:09shuttles use those no they they're saying okay let me find the quote let me
- 47:13find the quote find that okay our astronauts accomplish amazing feats of
- 47:19Science and exploration but at the end of the daying when you when you play
- 47:23this back can you put something from the soundtrack of like Apollo 13 or
- 47:26something behind this yeah and just enough just a little bit so we don't get
- 47:30sued yeah but at the end of the day they're still human and we need to we
- 47:34need to provide we need to surprise them I was about to say we need to provide
- 47:38them with the same Necessities as here on Earth so that they can continue to do
- 47:42their job that's actually not the quote I'm looking for where's
- 47:46the where's the quote that says the Luna L challenge yes that's what it's called
- 47:52seeks novel Design Concepts for low mass compact toilets that can reduce the
- 47:56current state-ofthe-art toilet mass by more than half from 54 kg to 31 kg and
- 48:02reduce the volume by 70% okay so they want to make them
- 48:06lighter and smaller hell lights a bucket basically the ones on the shuttle can
- 48:12fill up and it doesn't really matter the ones that they're actually going to have
- 48:17you can stack buckets inside each other yeah empty your bucket everyone's in
- 48:24charge of their own bucket it's got your name written on it in
- 48:29feces so we know who's pooped who isn't that a subplot from the Martian yeah in
- 48:36in the Martian they poop and it goes into these little bags and they use it
- 48:39as fertilizer I think there you go 35 you want $35,000 Grant to develop that
- 48:45you go right we is going to sue me they've already Nam that's what they've
- 48:49already named this emus astronauts right that was the name of his book about the
- 48:53space John bucket's going to going to sue Luke his Andy we's book about the
- 48:59moon was uh called Artemis so they've named it after him but they haven't read
- 49:03the [ __ ] first book he wrote where they poop into little bags poop in a bag
- 49:07there you go so I think it's easier to poop into a bucket though I've seen what
- 49:11happens when they accidentally try to open a juice box and it
- 49:15tears so I think that these toilets need to be Precision you know what I mean
- 49:21well there is some gravity on the moon isn't there yeah you're right you're
- 49:25right this is not zero yeah yeah yeah you just and then so so
- 49:29you got a bucket you got a little toilet seat on top of it you sit on it then you
- 49:34got a little you got a little uh piece of plastic that sits on that that you
- 49:37slide out you do your business before you stand up you do a bit of a wi wait
- 49:43so it's the piece of plastic that you slide at it's kind of like the crumbs
- 49:47tray on a toaster exactly like that so okay you slide that out you do you do
- 49:52your and then you slide that back and then you stand up
- 49:57then where do you slide it back to just over the top so this is just like a
- 50:01little tray that goes over the top of the oh it's just a covering actually so
- 50:05what you're describing is like one of those oldfashioned portable
- 50:09ashtrays oh d by $35,000 look listeners if you've got an
- 50:16idea that you want to vet before you send directly to NASA send them into us
- 50:20first we'll read them out here on the podcast and we'll see if we can get a
- 50:23bit of a community going of of just uh crazy ways that we could impress NASA
- 50:28that space poop yeah speaking of space I went back and I watched the science
- 50:34fiction movie this week that we had discussed on last week's show oh very
- 50:39briefly we discussed the movie Interstellar like Christopher Nolan just
- 50:44by way of mentioning that you and I Matt had not really liked it despite really
- 50:50enjoying all of Christopher Nolan's films and and his philosophies in
- 50:53general like bits of it and Luke you hadn't seen it at all right no still
- 50:57haven't yeah I went ahead and watched it again because I just couldn't get it out
- 51:01of my head and I must say all the criticisms I had of it the
- 51:07first time are still there they're still there it's not that I notice new things
- 51:11and I'm like oh I was wrong about that I was wrong about this there is still a
- 51:15lot to pick apart but when I watched it without the expectation that it might be
- 51:19the greatest movie I've ever seen which is certainly how I went into it um I
- 51:23really did enjoy this and I think the problem is we are far harder on
- 51:29Christopher Nolan than we would be on any other director especially of Science
- 51:34Fiction you know sure like sci-fi people pull [ __ ] out of their ass and being
- 51:39like yeah this is just how [ __ ] lightsaber works and and we don't just
- 51:43go hold on doesn't light continue forever how does it stop is it feeding
- 51:46back on itself like but every little thing of interstella we were just like
- 51:51well I don't think that had happen like that I don't think there is a Fifth
- 51:55Dimension and I don't think it I don't none of that stuff bothered
- 52:00me the thing that bothered me was the well the main thing was that um the I
- 52:07mean spoilers that in the end it was
- 52:10love no well yeah what that's that was the only thing where it was like it was
- 52:16all this science and all this weird stuff and Fifth Dimension stuff and then
- 52:19but it's just communicated through love if like I I was okay with the ending it
- 52:25was an haway monologue about the Transcendent Power of Love that I think
- 52:30ruined it and I think if you just removed that completely out of it and
- 52:35kept the ending the same you wouldn't naturally make that assumption that like
- 52:39oh love is what's connected him that's why he's able to communicate with us
- 52:44yeah you would have just gone okay this was a significant moment in his life and
- 52:48therefore he is in a feedback loop on that moment while he's in that Fifth
- 52:54Dimension because if if time was like space and you could go anywhere in it
- 53:00places exist even when you're not there therefore times exist even when you're
- 53:04not there so he could be in a kind of feedback loop of just a significant
- 53:08moment between him and his daughter if Anne haway hadn't ruined it by just
- 53:12going no love is an actual Force it's an element you're like no it's not it's not
- 53:18it's not and the guy you love is dead sorry spoilers but when you get there
- 53:23he's dead I started to say spoilers when you were talking about about The Fifth
- 53:27Dimension and time you know existing you know like M like space and and I was
- 53:31like no one's going to know they haven't seen the film that's not going to look
- 53:34even if you have seen the film and you actually know a little bit about [ __ ]
- 53:39theoretical physics it's still not a spoiler because it doesn't make any
- 53:42[ __ ] sense look I'll watch it again I do want to should I did like it I just
- 53:48just like I said that that bit at the end soured me on it and it made me kind
- 53:52of reflect badly on the stuff that came before cuz I was like really that's
- 53:55where he was going with all that yeah I I I felt the same H but I didn't feel it
- 54:00so much this time I felt like the only thing that really stood out to just be
- 54:03needing to be removed from the film with an Hathaway but I feel L about her roles
- 54:07in mosts was one of the main
- 54:12characters I great music some stuff I like it out the way sometimes I could
- 54:18take her a lever I don't I don't hate her like everyone else does and she was
- 54:21I think she she was good in um a good Catwoman she was the actually the best
- 54:26thing about [ __ ] Tim Burton Alison Wonderland I think oh yeah I skipped
- 54:29that garbage she was the best thing you know I was thinking about Edward Scissor
- 54:33Hands the other day right do you remember do you remember when Tim Burton
- 54:38was one of the best directors there was and Johnny Depp was one of the best
- 54:43actors there is mate I remember I've talked about this infinite times on the
- 54:47show I saw Batman at the [ __ ] movies Tim Burton's Batman in 1989 or whatever
- 54:53and I was like that is the greatest film I've ever seen M and then from that I
- 54:58watched a behind the scenes thing on TV and it was like this is Tim Burton he's
- 55:02the director and I was like I oh I want to be a director and then it was like
- 55:08this is Danny Elfman he wrote the music and I was like okay no I want to do that
- 55:12and then it was like this is Michael ke he like well I want to do that and I was
- 55:15just like I just want to I want to be movies I remember going to see that
- 55:19movies and people getting up and walking out wow so weird but then and then
- 55:25Edward siss hands came out and I was like I have to see everything that this
- 55:27Tim Burton person does thing is too is Tim Burton is a great example of
- 55:33teaching you what a director is because you're like man all of these films
- 55:37there's something about them they're all a bit dark they're a bit twisted they're
- 55:40a bit quirky it's like a thread is there like a crazy mind behind all this and
- 55:43then you see this Dark Twisted quirky dude and it's like I'm the director and
- 55:47you're like okay now I know what a director is yeah this dude with [ __ ]
- 55:52crazy hair wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night but justar J just
- 55:57such a joke and so did Johnny de there's this new film outcoming soon that I uh
- 56:02it's called high high ground and it's uh it's like this it's about Obi-Wan and
- 56:08Anakin yeah sorry I'm actually I'm mixing up two stories it's not called
- 56:12high ground it's uh a [ __ ] I can't remember the name of it it's got Robert
- 56:15patons in it as well and it looks very good but it's got Johnny Depp wearing
- 56:18weird sunglasses and a weird haircut doing a weird voice I like what is that
- 56:22what is that doing there that's what he is that's what he does now yeah sorry
- 56:26High Ground is is another film an Australian film that's coming out which
- 56:29actually looks very good Jack Thompson and uh it's got uh Simon Baker in it as
- 56:33well but if you look at the trailer on it's it's like about Aboriginal uh
- 56:39genocides back in the colonial days and all this stuff but all the comments
- 56:43under it are I wonder who you and
- 56:46McGregor plays like it's just all Anakin Anakin stuff I have The High
- 56:53Ground oh well we'll stop then underestimate my power what a
- 56:59performance the thing is though right in movies we often like we pick on we pick
- 57:05on moments like that oh okay well he didn't fight anymore because [ __ ]
- 57:08obiwan had The High Ground what does that even [ __ ] mean but like it was
- 57:12only because of the execution of that that made that really [ __ ] I remember
- 57:16when we were making the tail job we were doing a car crash right a car chase and
- 57:20we wanted to know how do you end a car chase and the best car chase that we
- 57:25could think of in any mov Brian and I could come up with was
- 57:28Raiders Of The Last Arc when he [ __ ] chases that truck at the end the arc on
- 57:33the truck he drives another truck up jumps on it it beats up all the guys in
- 57:37the back gets around beats up the driver and then the the car with the Nazis in
- 57:43it the the officers follows them right how do they get away so I rewatched it
- 57:48you know how they get away you know how they get away the car
- 57:52skids and the chase Music Stops and the We Got Away music
- 57:59starts and you just know that they got away and that's it that's it right it's
- 58:04all in the execution that's the secret yeah Spielberg genius we're probably
- 58:09pushing on the hour but we we did have a couple of celebrity deaths last week
- 58:13that it's going to be old news if we don't mention them yeah and this one
- 58:17it's a shame we missed this last week cuz this was sort of breaking as we were
- 58:20recording and we sort of Jo Joel schumacker yeah Gonzo famous
- 58:27for Batman yeah but here's the thing right because Joel Schumacher gets a lot
- 58:31of [ __ ] because he made arguably the worst Batman movies ever made ever
- 58:36they're awful they're [ __ ] awful and um I watched some clips online the other
- 58:42day of the ones that he did I remember Batman and Robin being bad but in my
- 58:46head Batman Forever was actually not too bad uh it's not [ __ ] great sorry it's
- 58:53[ __ ] awful like it's yeah [ __ ] that was the first one to have for him
- 58:57to have nipples wasn't it yes yeah and she touches him yeah Chase Meridian she
- 59:04touch Kidman yeah no it's awful but I just like to remind people that Joel
- 59:09Schumaker has made some really really good movies too oh yeah albe it a long
- 59:15time ago St Elmo fire was his first film and it's a classic followed that up with
- 59:21the Lost Boys which is also a classic then a couple of years later he made a
- 59:26film that I saw when it first came out scared the [ __ ] out of me and I never
- 59:30watched it again until today when I decided to give flatliners another look
- 59:36and I've got to say flatliners yeah and it's
- 59:41fantastic and you should go back and watch this there's been a remake ignore
- 59:45it right just generic movie number 72 the original
- 59:51flatliners great concept and just beautifully executed for STS it happens
- 59:57in some kind of post-apocalyptic world I mean they don't say that it's supposed
- 1:00:00to just be the world but the way it's art directed everything's got
- 1:00:04scaffolding on it every vent's got smoke coming out of it everything's got a red
- 1:00:08backlight on it everything's derel you don't know if something's about to is
- 1:00:13halfway being constructed or halfway to be torn down um their medical school is
- 1:00:18in an old dilapitated church just because of the symbolism of Surgeons
- 1:00:23playing God you know there's statues everywhere it's like really cool you
- 1:00:29know the last time I saw that I probably was I would have been a young teenager
- 1:00:34mhm and so I probably yeah I feel like too probably would have missed a lot of
- 1:00:38what it was like I enjoyed it back then but I probably didn't understand it as
- 1:00:41much as I would now so maybe I should go back and watch that one I seem to recall
- 1:00:45seeing trailers for it at some point at at the theater I don't recall
- 1:00:51when I actually watched it but uh Kei the suin right y yes oh it's the whole
- 1:00:56whole Brat Pack ke for southernland yeah that's um Julia Roberts in one of her
- 1:00:59earliest roles oh and uh what's the guy with the weird Pig
- 1:01:06noose from the 80s you know Pig noos
- 1:01:11Kevin Bacon Kevin Bacon come on he's got a he's a good actor but he's got a weird pck his
- 1:01:17name's bacon you know what's funny too like I was on a little bit of a kick this week
- 1:01:23of watching either movies I had never seen from that period late 80s early 90s
- 1:01:27or movies that I had seen and had no memory of and there was another one I
- 1:01:32watched that I actually don't think I had seen at all single white female now
- 1:01:37I'm sure you're familiar with this movie right that's the Madonna one isn't it no
- 1:01:41no no no that's body of evidence single white female is Bridget Fonda and uh
- 1:01:48right Jennifer Jason Lee right now I hadn't seen this before but I was very
- 1:01:54familiar or I thought I was with the plot when I say single white female I'm
- 1:01:59trying to think of what it's about it's an advertisement for a for a like a
- 1:02:05lodger or something for for a roommate yeah housemate yeah yeah yeah yeah but
- 1:02:09if if somebody said to you like oh somebody's pulling a single white female
- 1:02:14on me oh like a uh identity theft yeah right that's
- 1:02:20what I've always thought it's not no she dresses up like
- 1:02:25her it doesn't her hair like and all of that stuff because she wants to be her
- 1:02:29twin sister she had a twin sister who died and she tries to make other women
- 1:02:33her twin and I was like H [ __ ] 35 years everyone's been like single white
- 1:02:39female's identity theft it's not it's it's just not right good movie though
- 1:02:45that's another one where it's just like it's supposed to be just be New York but
- 1:02:49it's like everything's got a backlight on it and you know everything's got
- 1:02:53creepy Shadows yeah I love the way they made movies back then I watched Razer
- 1:02:57back too during the during the week Russell M's you seen Razer back the pig movie
- 1:03:03that's the pig one yeah yeah killer Pig yeah yeah I know is that the guy from
- 1:03:09The Howling no no I don't who's the guy from The
- 1:03:15Howling 3 who's like in the scene you're being raped by monsters oh who was that
- 1:03:21guy um yes oh [ __ ] what is his name you're being gang raped by
- 1:03:27monsters yeah he's like a director yeah ah anyway doesn't matter doesn't matter
- 1:03:32I know I know who you mean though a Hing three but at the end of that Joel
- 1:03:36Schumaker geek of the week well we've got another potential geek of the week
- 1:03:41Ian Holm yeah so I mean how do you feel about Ian Hol Luke what do I know of Ian
- 1:03:47Hol oh for [ __ ] sake come on you know Ian Holm he's ash from Alien he's um
- 1:03:53Bilbo from Lord of the Rings I think Lord of the Rings you like alien though
- 1:03:58I like alien though I actually started watching that the other day imagine
- 1:04:02[ __ ] everything imagine him drowning in milk that's how he died that's that's
- 1:04:08how he went that's how he wanted to go God he's been a lot of stuff he was the
- 1:04:13surgeon in from Hell who was Jack the Ripper
- 1:04:17spoilers spoilers for that movie that comic and that conspiracy theory yeah
- 1:04:24exactly he was basically in every movie just not a m not the main character in
- 1:04:29yeah he's been in everything since 1957 yeah Jesus including a lot of uh
- 1:04:36beloved franchises I I I tried I bought what I thought was the trade paperback
- 1:04:41of from Hell A couple of years ago I found out online I was like [ __ ] this is
- 1:04:45cheap I'm snapping this up and then issue one arrived at my house I was like
- 1:04:50oh oh no I've got I know how I can miss it it's [ __ ] huge um it's there
- 1:04:56somewhere so you you choose Joel schumacker over Ian Hall well we're
- 1:05:00alled to surprises me actually are we allowed to have more G GE awakes and GE
- 1:05:04of the week it's GE of the week well I don't know M you make the rules yeah see
- 1:05:09I don't know he's sort of losing me with the whole Lord of the Ring stuff not a
- 1:05:13geek not enough of a geek because he was in Lord with the
- 1:05:17Rings yeah he's not a geek he's more of a nerd to be [Laughter]
- 1:05:23honest but then he I no he he can be geek of the week as well okay geek I'll
- 1:05:30just play the jingle
- 1:05:31[Music]
- 1:05:39twice Matt is there like a is there a geekdom word for people that
- 1:05:45specifically like Tolen and Lord of the Rings that's a good question I'm sure
- 1:05:48there are there must be a word for that must be a term right middle or something
- 1:05:54or yeah I don't know not one of them ringos ringos that's a that's a good one
- 1:06:00I'm definitely not a Ringo
- 1:06:04I I love I the fellowship not the extended editions because I think
- 1:06:10there's a reason all that [ __ ] didn't make it into the cut um there's some
- 1:06:14good stuff in extended edition and and the second one is maybe even better I
- 1:06:20thought the third one tape it off and the The Hobbit is garbage yeah I love
- 1:06:26all all a lot of the Rings films love them The Hobbit agreed garbage I don't
- 1:06:31it's like a completely different filmmaker made all it's like someone is
- 1:06:34trying to do a Peter Jackson fan film know what the [ __ ] happened to him I'm
- 1:06:38still sort of find it weird how it was done to me they would have done their
- 1:06:41Hobbit first and then that as one movie to sort of test it all out gaug the
- 1:06:45water if you had to and then you go and make lord of rings and do the three
- 1:06:49large ones but they just went the other way but decid make the smaller book into
- 1:06:54three movies about nothing y because they like money money is good but yeah I
- 1:06:59would have done it the other way but what do I know I actually also would
- 1:07:03have thought you might have an easier time convincing a studio to let you make
- 1:07:08The Hobbit than yeah convincing them to do three backtack Lord of the Rings cuz
- 1:07:14the hob the hobbit's much more palatable unless the unless the dragon sounds more
- 1:07:18complicated than what you get in Lord of the Rings an army of how you going to do
- 1:07:23that yeah I didn't like I didn't like the way they did the
- 1:07:27Dragon no I didn't like any of the action sequences in the I I'm saying
- 1:07:32it's [ __ ] ridiculous it's all just like and coincidence like the only
- 1:07:36reason the dwarves are alive is because they just coincidentally fall into a m
- 1:07:39as it goes by it's [ __ ] that whole sequence is but here's the thing there's
- 1:07:44bad movies out there that don't annoy me this annoys me because it doesn't have to be
- 1:07:51bad pet Jackson used to be [ __ ] excellent he made excellent films in the
- 1:07:57same series as these films and now I'm like what are you doing same just make
- 1:08:01them like them yeah I actually thought I thought maybe it had just been years
- 1:08:06since I'd seen the Lord of the Rings and maybe I was wrong and maybe they were
- 1:08:10not as good as I remember and I watched them again cuz they were on Netflix and
- 1:08:145 minutes into Fellowship I'm like no this is a great movie like there's a
- 1:08:18reason why this was so good yep and the
- 1:08:22hobbits anyway garbage I I I I watched the first one and that was it third
- 1:08:29one's the worst the first Hobbit about lord of rings the third Hobbit is man
- 1:08:34you haven't even seen schmeel you can't [ __ ] criticize you haven't seen the
- 1:08:38good who's schmeel exactly
- 1:08:43schle he's not into Lord of the Rings clearly I I don't get fantasy I really
- 1:08:48don't I try but it's not for me I
- 1:08:53need you know where I act out my fantasies in the after party that's all
- 1:08:58for this week thank you for listening and we hope you enjoyed the show if you
