- 0:07Speaker 1: All right, this is going to freak you out if
- 0:09Speaker 1: you're a pet owner. So Seema parven is joining us.
- 0:13Speaker 1: A cat owner originally from San Francisco, now living in Melbourne.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Her cat Minim had to brush with death.
- 0:21Speaker 1: He survived four hours in a clothes dryer.
- 0:26Speaker 2: On high heat.
- 0:28Speaker 1: She now wants to warn other pet owners always check
- 0:31Speaker 1: your dryers and washing machines before they run.
- 0:36Speaker 2: She is joining us right now, see.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Me, and you've got your beautiful cat Minim on zoom
- 0:41Speaker 1: live with us.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Hello, good morning, good morning, thanks for having me.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Oh how's he doing? Look at him now?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Obviously he's survived and everything's okay. But what the hell happened?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Tell us what went about?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Oh it was a freak, I guess, a freak accident.
- 1:00Speaker 4: I was trying to dry a douna and it wasn't
- 1:02Speaker 4: drying properly. So I left the door open for about
- 1:04Speaker 4: maybe five ten minutes. Tops I left it slightly a jar,
- 1:08Speaker 4: thinking oh it's I haven't left it open enough for
- 1:12Speaker 4: any cat to go in there. And Minim had never
- 1:14Speaker 4: shown any interest, and it was slight enough that he
- 1:20Speaker 4: got in about me.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Noticing, and then you put it on, so you had
- 1:24Speaker 1: no idea. So you closed the drawer and put it
- 1:25Speaker 1: on for what four hours?
- 1:27Speaker 4: So I was out for four hours, so I put
- 1:31Speaker 4: it on my dryer. Does it by weight? It wasn't
- 1:34Speaker 4: reading the DONA correctly the night before, and so we'll
- 1:38Speaker 4: never know how long it actually he tumbled for because
- 1:42Speaker 4: I ended up going and dropping my child off at
- 1:45Speaker 4: kinder and then going off to work for a bit.
- 1:47Speaker 4: And when I came back, which was about four hours later,
- 1:51Speaker 4: he wasn't asleep in his little cat house, and I
- 1:54Speaker 4: was like, we're minim because he usually spend most of
- 1:57Speaker 4: his days there, and I all his name right away,
- 2:01Speaker 4: and then I heard a little scratch and me out
- 2:04Speaker 4: come from the dryer, and my heart sank.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I was like, oh my god, no, I'm imagining things.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And then I opened the door and he was just
- 2:11Speaker 4: standing there on top of the don now, and he
- 2:15Speaker 4: seemed normal at first, but then I picked him up
- 2:17Speaker 4: and he had clearly vomited and was panting, and so
- 2:22Speaker 4: then I threw him in the cat carrier and went
- 2:25Speaker 4: running to the emergency vets.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I bet you were freaking out. And then when you
- 2:28Speaker 1: took him into the emergency vet, how was he?
- 2:32Speaker 2: What? What condition? Was he enofter being in the dryer.
- 2:35Speaker 4: He was severely dehydrated. He had a tail injury. He
- 2:42Speaker 4: they tried. They treated him for possible pneumonia because they
- 2:45Speaker 4: because he's a squishy face, they assumed he probably swallowed
- 2:49Speaker 4: a lot of his vomit with pneumonia, and then they
- 2:55Speaker 4: treated him for like lots of bruising. His eyes were sullen,
- 2:57Speaker 4: his mouth was s fllen, his tongue was really bruise,
- 3:01Speaker 4: and he would get out of sorts. His temperature body
- 3:04Speaker 4: temperature kept going up and down, and he was sort
- 3:07Speaker 4: of it was all if he react to the medicine
- 3:10Speaker 4: and the oxygen tank because he put they put him
- 3:12Speaker 4: in a little octygen room, then we'll.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Hope for the best. But yes, it was just touch
- 3:19Speaker 3: and go.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I bet you thought you were you were gonna
- 3:21Speaker 1: losing broad and then you would have blamed yourself that
- 3:24Speaker 1: Hey got into that dryer.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Oh I blame myself Automatically. I was like, oh my god,
- 3:29Speaker 4: I can't believe I just portrayed my cat. I rescued
- 3:32Speaker 4: him about nine months ago, and yes, I was once
- 3:36Speaker 4: he once the events took him back, I.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Had a really good, ugly cry.
- 3:41Speaker 4: It was like, I can't believe this has happened, and
- 3:44Speaker 4: he had just tried to figure out what was what
- 3:46Speaker 4: was going to occur.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Apparently he's the after after he made a miraculess recovery.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Apparently he's the only cat that's ever gone through the
- 3:54Speaker 4: doors of the Lord Smith and survived.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Really, so this is quite common. Say, this happens quite
- 4:02Speaker 1: a bit. Is that what you were told?
- 4:04Speaker 4: Yes, it happens quite a bit. And as a cat owner,
- 4:06Speaker 4: I knew. I knew, I've heard about it as well,
- 4:09Speaker 4: and always assumed, oh, it'll never happen to me. I'm
- 4:13Speaker 4: I'm so diligent with my animals, and yeah, and then
- 4:16Speaker 4: and then it did, and clearly he was just so quiet,
- 4:20Speaker 4: and it was so quick, and he's never shown any
- 4:23Speaker 4: interest in the dryer or the washer. At times, I
- 4:26Speaker 4: do leave the door open just to air it out,
- 4:29Speaker 4: always check inside because I've done so. And this day
- 4:33Speaker 4: I just thought, oh, it wasn't left open enough for
- 4:36Speaker 4: anyone to go in there, and and little mcnumb.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Had, Yeah, I mean, you're really making me think now,
- 4:42Speaker 1: because I've got to count at home, and I have
- 4:43Speaker 1: a washing machine that is right next to where her
- 4:46Speaker 1: littery is and quite like you don't think, really, you
- 4:50Speaker 1: just dump if you dump the clothes in there, right,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and then go and do something else and then come
- 4:54Speaker 1: back and turn it on.
- 4:55Speaker 2: The cat could be in there, and it's the last
- 4:56Speaker 2: thing you think of.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Like you just run around the house, you're doing this
- 4:59Speaker 1: and that, and then you get to the dry throw
- 5:01Speaker 1: a few things in and you walk away.
- 5:02Speaker 4: You press that button, you walk away, and there's no
- 5:05Speaker 4: way you would ever think no.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And like I reckon, a little puppy could do it
- 5:08Speaker 2: as well.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So if you're a dog owner, i'd keep I'd keep
- 5:11Speaker 1: a watch out for that.
- 5:12Speaker 2: How is he doing? How's men I'm doing?
- 5:14Speaker 4: Now?
- 5:14Speaker 1: I can see him on screen. Let me have I
- 5:16Speaker 1: love cats. Let me have a look at him. Oh,
- 5:19Speaker 1: he is gorgeous.
- 5:22Speaker 3: He's very cute. He's doing really well. Surprisingly.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I mean, even when he was still at the vets,
- 5:29Speaker 4: they I think everyone was a bit shocked at how
- 5:31Speaker 4: quickly he had recovered. He was demanding food and pats
- 5:34Speaker 4: apparently from day one, and he's been doing the.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Same since he's come home.
- 5:40Speaker 4: He's demanding lots of treats and lots of even now
- 5:43Speaker 4: in the middle of the night when he sort of
- 5:45Speaker 4: hits me with his paw.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I'll wake up and give him a good old pat
- 5:49Speaker 3: in the middle of the night. And yet he's just
- 5:52Speaker 3: back to his normal self.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I come.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear that he's all right. Thirty and
- 5:55Speaker 1: one oh six five. By the way, has this happened
- 5:57Speaker 1: to anyone else? Or has your family pet got caught
- 6:01Speaker 1: in something? Did they run under the house? Did they
- 6:04Speaker 1: have they hidden? Could you not find them? Want to
- 6:07Speaker 1: hear from you on thirteen one oh six five? What
- 6:10Speaker 1: happened to your family pet? Has anyone else been through
- 6:13Speaker 1: something like this?
- 6:14Speaker 2: I'm glad it's all right.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So what is your message to everyone that owns a
- 6:18Speaker 1: cat or a small puppy?
- 6:21Speaker 3: Always check.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Even if you think, oh, it could never happen to me,
- 6:25Speaker 4: I'm diligent.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 4: My cat's never shown any interest or my animal. It
- 6:29Speaker 4: can happen in a second. And especially I guess if
- 6:32Speaker 4: you keep the door open and you're running around like
- 6:34Speaker 4: I was getting ready for the day, just a quick
- 6:39Speaker 4: check and it can see.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The like, oh, absolutely, And I bet you're very paranoid.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Now when it's time to put the dryer or the
- 6:45Speaker 1: washing on. You probably check bloody thirteen times before you
- 6:48Speaker 1: turn it on.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I've left the doors completely closed, and yeah I count.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'll count my cats, and then I'll put the stuff
- 6:56Speaker 4: in and then still rummage in there. I'm like, I
- 6:59Speaker 4: think minimum and everyone involved is forever paranoid.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I bet Seema Parvin. Thank you so much.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'm glad that Minim's doing all right and a good
- 7:07Speaker 1: message to put out there to ever. I'm check before
- 7:09Speaker 1: you turn the dryer or the washing machine on. Thanks
- 7:12Speaker 1: for joining us this morning, all right, well, thanks for
- 7:14Speaker 1: having us
