- 0:17Speaker 3: make you rich in life. And today we are in
- 0:20Speaker 3: for an absolute treat because we are joined by Hannah
- 0:23Speaker 3: Collingwood English. She's a beauty writer, pharmaceutical.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Scientist and content creator.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Hannah has a background in clinical research and she's also
- 0:32Speaker 3: published a book called Your Best Skin, so you know
- 0:35Speaker 3: she's legit.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm locked in, I'm ready to have my skin.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Welcome to to Broek.
- 0:42Speaker 1: This week has been a long time coming.
- 0:44Speaker 3: We've wanted you on the show for so long, so
- 0:46Speaker 3: we were so happy that we were able to line
- 0:48Speaker 3: it up with When You're in Sydney.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Yeah. I can't believe I was a way when You're
- 0:52Speaker 4: in Melbourne.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I know, I was just across lovers when we were
- 0:57Speaker 1: in Melbourne. Oh my god, I was fucking freeze acting I.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Was locked in a nice coat. Is kind of the best.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Winter in Melbourne is definitely better than Winter in Sydney.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I think Sydney takes the trophy for like the down pause,
- 1:12Speaker 4: like it's just it's something else when it rains quite literally.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but before we get into the episode, we like
- 1:20Speaker 3: to start with a life lesson of the week, So
- 1:23Speaker 3: would you like to kick us off? Yeah?
- 1:26Speaker 4: So so hard, right, I know. It's just that, like
- 1:31Speaker 4: it's okay to lean into your strengths, you know, like
- 1:34Speaker 4: I you know, we have to go to like events
- 1:37Speaker 4: a bit for work that's not really my thing, like
- 1:39Speaker 4: get a little bit shy and so like you don't
- 1:42Speaker 4: actually have to be the best at saying hi to
- 1:44Speaker 4: everyone and working the room, like not everyone is amazing
- 1:47Speaker 4: at that, and that's actually okay. You can stay in
- 1:50Speaker 4: your lane and do what you're best at as well. Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I love that.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I feel like that's me now, Like even as I'm
- 1:56Speaker 1: getting older, I'm like.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm cool in my little corner. I'll come and say hey,
- 2:02Speaker 2: but you don't.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't have to work the room. You don't
- 2:04Speaker 1: have to be the life of the party, the main
- 2:06Speaker 1: character energy. I'm like, this doesn't have to man, I'm
- 2:09Speaker 1: happy to be a side character, an extra if you will.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I love on no on TV shows where you see
- 2:17Speaker 1: like the extra who's like this is their first gig
- 2:19Speaker 1: in like an acting show, and they're like, I'm going
- 2:21Speaker 1: to own this extra role.
- 2:23Speaker 2: This is my Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 1: There's always I'm sure you can find them on TikTok.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Always look up like Gossip Girl, extra like going Hard
- 2:31Speaker 1: or like something like that, and there's always someone in
- 2:33Speaker 1: the club being like yeah yeah, or like.
- 2:35Speaker 3: In the background of high school musical or like the
- 2:38Speaker 3: assistant in life actually who's like it's Elton, babe and
- 2:41Speaker 3: like gives him the phone.
- 2:42Speaker 1: This is my line.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 2:44Speaker 1: My life lesson of the week is a comment that
- 2:48Speaker 1: I saw on our podcast episode from last week, and
- 2:51Speaker 1: it was that episode about like romance and embracing whimsical
- 2:55Speaker 1: and all that stuff, and it was a chick sharing
- 2:58Speaker 1: her life lesson. I was like, you just altered my
- 3:01Speaker 1: brain chemistry and it said you enjoy the process, you
- 3:04Speaker 1: enjoy your life, and I was like, well shit, yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Like it was so accurate because so often we think
- 3:11Speaker 1: we need to be at the end goal of so
- 3:13Speaker 1: many things and know everything and put a lot of
- 3:15Speaker 1: pressure on ourselves to be perfect. But it was the
- 3:18Speaker 1: point of like, if you enjoy the process of becoming,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you will just enjoy your life. A lot more, and
- 3:23Speaker 1: I was like, I'm going to lock into that one
- 3:25Speaker 1: a little bit more. Yeah, I like that one.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Yeah, this little reminder the process takes longer than the
- 3:31Speaker 3: actual milestone or the wind, Like that's the blip.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The process is like the longer.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Part, exactly like the beauty's in the journey. And how
- 3:39Speaker 1: often like if you did the thing where you met
- 3:42Speaker 1: your eight year old self and told them and everything
- 3:44Speaker 1: that you do in your life now, they'd be.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Like, wow, totally.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh I love that.
- 3:50Speaker 3: My life lesson of the week is short and sweet,
- 3:52Speaker 3: and it's that a full hearted no is better than
- 3:56Speaker 3: a half hearted yes.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we love that.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, put that you're very good at the full hearted no.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Some people don't understand when you say a full hearted no.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And I'm like, leave her alone, ye, leave her alone,
- 4:09Speaker 1: She'll get you.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I always well.
- 4:11Speaker 3: The Olsen Twins famously said no is a full sentence,
- 4:14Speaker 3: and I think I heard that in two thousand and four.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And that really stuck with me. I love that.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That's probably from like some philosopher like Aristotle. But you're like,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but the Olsen Twins as.
- 4:24Speaker 3: The great Mary, Kate and Ashley apparently they got it
- 4:27Speaker 3: from their dad, but I don't know where he pulled
- 4:29Speaker 3: it from.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Aristotle. He's responsible for a lot of greatness.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so he's done a lot for this way, as
- 4:36Speaker 1: I owe him.
- 4:37Speaker 4: The great American philosophers Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I would also put Hannah On Tanner up there,
- 4:43Speaker 1: definitely as a great American philosopher.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeaeah absolutely.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 3: All right, now that we've got our life lessons out
- 4:49Speaker 3: of the way, let's get into the questions. Okay, So Hannah,
- 4:54Speaker 3: before we jump into it, can you tell us how
- 4:56Speaker 3: did you get into beauty?
- 4:58Speaker 4: So? I, yeah, kind of by accident, but I always
- 5:02Speaker 4: sort of wanted to, Like I told my parents I
- 5:05Speaker 4: wanted to be a makeup artist after I read the
- 5:07Speaker 4: Kevin Kwan book, you know, a magazin basis Amazing, And
- 5:12Speaker 4: they were like, why don't you, you know, learn to
- 5:14Speaker 4: make the products, And I was like, oh, okay. But
- 5:17Speaker 4: then I also wanted to do like magazines or I
- 5:19Speaker 4: wanted to do fashion. So I kind of studied a
- 5:22Speaker 4: little bit here and there.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Like every girl who grew up in the two thousands, right.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Those jobs that don't really yes anymore unless you're never baby.
- 5:30Speaker 3: We've made new ones now exactly, and that will be like, yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 3: that us of now we're the Andy Anderson's now okay
- 5:42Speaker 3: read for us.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I went back and studied science eventually, and I guess
- 5:47Speaker 4: the way I learn is I make up little stories
- 5:50Speaker 4: of how things work. So I'd be describing a complex
- 5:55Speaker 4: process reaction, but I would do it in a like
- 6:00Speaker 4: you know those Bimbo University tiktoks where she explains finance.
- 6:03Speaker 4: But it's like, it's kind of like that. So I
- 6:05Speaker 4: would bully everyone to come to study group with me,
- 6:07Speaker 4: and I would work through things like that. And I
- 6:10Speaker 4: guess that's how I explained ingredients and stuff. So I
- 6:13Speaker 4: was like posting my skincare. It was just Instagram was
- 6:15Speaker 4: just photos.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah at that time, in the good old days.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Oh what a time. But some of the things we
- 6:24Speaker 4: posted and it's like that got likes.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, right, loved it.
- 6:31Speaker 4: But I guess, yeah, the way I explain things seem
- 6:33Speaker 4: to resonate. So here we are. And I guess working
- 6:37Speaker 4: in pharmaceuticals, I just felt like I had more impact
- 6:40Speaker 4: doing social media stuff because I wasn't like a cog
- 6:45Speaker 4: in a big machine. I could actually reached people.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, like direct to consumer in that way, and you
- 6:50Speaker 3: don't have any biases because yeah, or restrictions either, which
- 6:57Speaker 3: is really cool. What about your own experience with skin
- 7:01Speaker 3: and acne and anything like that when you're growing up.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I think a lot of us that are really
- 7:06Speaker 4: into skincare it's because we've been through it. So I
- 7:10Speaker 4: had acne in high school and I don't actually remember
- 7:12Speaker 4: people being awful to me about it. I think I
- 7:16Speaker 4: was just awful to myself. But I got like, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 4: it wasn't just the face, it was neck and chest
- 7:22Speaker 4: and back as well. And we didn't really I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think I went on antibiotics a couple of times,
- 7:27Speaker 4: but I didn't go on like full on acne medication,
- 7:30Speaker 4: just kind of you know. I think people's attitude at
- 7:32Speaker 4: the time was just like, oh, you'll grow out of it.
- 7:35Speaker 4: It's just pubany. Yeah, but like you can sca and
- 7:41Speaker 4: like it's really important to you see a doctor, so
- 7:43Speaker 4: you know, having that time.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Some people don't grow out of it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: You know, it can be very serious health related things
- 7:49Speaker 1: sometimes as well.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I've had to grow on like the hardcore acne medication,
- 7:54Speaker 4: so I've been on it for like three weeks now
- 7:56Speaker 4: because it just something stirred up and that's what we
- 8:00Speaker 4: have to do. Yeah. So someone gave me one of
- 8:05Speaker 4: Paula Begon's books, like Paula Stokes Pola, and I was like, oh,
- 8:10Speaker 4: there's science in this. So then I learned to skincare
- 8:15Speaker 4: that way.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So your skincare with science. I love that, right.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah. What's the difference between skincare for your face and
- 8:25Speaker 1: skin care for your body? Like how do we treat
- 8:27Speaker 1: those differently? Or do we treat them differently?
- 8:31Speaker 4: Well, your skin, the skin on your face turns over
- 8:34Speaker 4: a bit quicker and on your body it's lower, so
- 8:37Speaker 4: you can go a bit harder on exfoliance unless you
- 8:40Speaker 4: have XMA or something like that, you know. But I
- 8:45Speaker 4: find a lot of body care. Until very recently it
- 8:48Speaker 4: was just like moisturizing that smells nice. Yeah, And I
- 8:52Speaker 4: think from a product development perspective, it's hard to put
- 8:54Speaker 4: a lot of like cool ingredients that are doing stuff
- 8:56Speaker 4: in something that size because people don't want to pay
- 8:59Speaker 4: a lot. Yeah, but we have only body care now,
- 9:02Speaker 4: oh my god.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we've just recently tried this good.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, because I haven't for like the like vitamin C. Like,
- 9:11Speaker 3: it's cool that there's for all different sort of like
- 9:14Speaker 3: skin concerns and needs for anyone.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Who isn't familiar with those, can you talk us through them?
- 9:18Speaker 1: And what like skin care for body care is yeah, well,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I guess.
- 9:24Speaker 4: We have similar skin concerns on our bodies as our faces. Right,
- 9:28Speaker 4: So you can get breakouts, you can get dry skin,
- 9:30Speaker 4: you can get dark spots, or a lot of people
- 9:33Speaker 4: get the bumps.
- 9:34Speaker 1: The polaris yes, scientists now that.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Yeah, we're in in stem. Sorry, so you want to
- 9:47Speaker 4: treat those concerns, I guess. I mean I was too.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I wouldn't say lazy, but I couldn't be bothered to
- 9:53Speaker 4: do it for a long time. But now I feel
- 9:55Speaker 4: like we've been there, done that with a lot of
- 9:57Speaker 4: skin care for the face. So it's really exciting to
- 9:59Speaker 4: see like stuff come through bodycare. So the retinal body
- 10:04Speaker 4: wash and lotion is like I think Jackie Einer made
- 10:08Speaker 4: it like a viral and we only just got it
- 10:11Speaker 4: here last year. Yeah, but smoothing so it will help
- 10:16Speaker 4: with the bum spell also with like breakouts and stuff
- 10:19Speaker 4: and like in a body wash because they have a
- 10:22Speaker 4: technology that like deposits it in the skin, so even
- 10:24Speaker 4: when you wash it off, it's still in there, which
- 10:27Speaker 4: is like crazy. But also if you are you can't
- 10:30Speaker 4: be bothered doing anything, that's okay. If you can't be
- 10:33Speaker 4: bothered doing anything, you've done it with your body wash
- 10:35Speaker 4: because you have to clean your body.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, your LA's kind of the bare minimum.
- 10:40Speaker 1: A lazy a lazy girl body care or skincare routine
- 10:44Speaker 1: is like, right up my alley. I am not an
- 10:47Speaker 1: eighteen step skincare girly.
- 10:49Speaker 4: It's not for me.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Each to their own.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But there's also so many words and ingredients that get
- 10:57Speaker 1: thrown around in skincare.
- 10:59Speaker 2: What are the time types of.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Ingredients that we should be looking out for in our skincare.
- 11:04Speaker 2: That actually work?
- 11:07Speaker 4: This is such a boring answer, but like, the vitamins
- 11:10Speaker 4: are good. So B three is nigh cinamide. We love
- 11:14Speaker 4: that it helps with like oil, just normalizing it, but
- 11:18Speaker 4: also helps your skin barrier to be tougher, which is
- 11:20Speaker 4: very important. It's like the number one thing you need
- 11:23Speaker 4: just skin to do. Right. It's like, yeah, protect keep
- 11:26Speaker 4: everything in.
- 11:27Speaker 2: For purpose of the organ, right.
- 11:30Speaker 4: A lot of people forget that it's not there to
- 11:33Speaker 4: be pretty. Although although although so we like vitamins B three,
- 11:40Speaker 4: B five is like panthanol, and that one is like calming.
- 11:43Speaker 4: It also helps with moisture, so he just like teach
- 11:46Speaker 4: your skin to moisturize itself better, I guess. And then
- 11:50Speaker 4: our retinola is vitamin A. That one not for if
- 11:54Speaker 4: pregnant or breastfeeding, but if not, then I was just
- 11:59Speaker 4: going to do a lot of stuff, Like we have
- 12:00Speaker 4: receptors for vitamins in our bodies that they know what
- 12:04Speaker 4: to do with that. So it helps with texture. And
- 12:07Speaker 4: you can see like people that are older but they've
- 12:09Speaker 4: been using like vitamin as for a long time. It
- 12:11Speaker 4: just kind of preserves what you have. So you know,
- 12:15Speaker 4: you start in your late twenties maybe and by the
- 12:17Speaker 4: time you're forty, you're getting age twenty seven allegations hopefully.
- 12:22Speaker 4: I mean, if that's what you want, no pressure.
- 12:24Speaker 1: If I don't get vampire allegations when I'm fifty, I'm
- 12:27Speaker 1: gonna be pissed, you know.
- 12:29Speaker 2: So true and you yeah, fountain of youth vibes.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, what else? Vitamin C people love. It's very well researched,
- 12:37Speaker 4: but I find that one is a bit spicy for me,
- 12:41Speaker 4: you know, like I've just never really been able to
- 12:43Speaker 4: tolerate it, except for the really expensive skin suticles one, yeah,
- 12:47Speaker 4: which like sure if I'm feeling like rich one day,
- 12:51Speaker 4: but I don't know that that's sustainable long term, but
- 12:55Speaker 4: it's so nice.
- 13:16Speaker 1: What's the difference between chemical and physical exfoliance, because that's
- 13:19Speaker 1: a question we get quite often.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Oh okay, So physical is like you could do it
- 13:24Speaker 4: with a towel by just scrubbing too hard, so you're
- 13:26Speaker 4: just like physically getting the dead skin off. Don't scrub
- 13:30Speaker 4: too hard though, And chemical is like they melt the
- 13:35Speaker 4: bonds between the dead skin cells. Because a lot of
- 13:37Speaker 4: peoples that don't share so normally they can be a
- 13:40Speaker 4: bit sticky, so it helps to encourage them. But the
- 13:44Speaker 4: thing is, your skin barrier is made up of like
- 13:48Speaker 4: I guess, oils, lipids, ceramides, cholesterol, but also a layer
- 13:53Speaker 4: of dead skin cells. And that's why we don't want
- 13:55Speaker 4: to go too hard either way, because you need some
- 13:57Speaker 4: of the dead skin cells. But I find physical ones
- 14:03Speaker 4: it's a bit easy to get carried away and scrub
- 14:05Speaker 4: too hard. So my preference is always even for body
- 14:08Speaker 4: a chemical one because I just find them more predictable.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, like more of a controlled yeah thing.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and like you can't scrub off at ten in
- 14:18Speaker 4: the same way, for example.
- 14:20Speaker 3: But like.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I saw someone on TikTok saying that you could use
- 14:25Speaker 1: olive oil to take off fake ten, and I tried it,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and I just want to say, don't do it.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I was probably.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Doing it wrong, but I got fucking oil everywhere and
- 14:39Speaker 1: it didn't work. I don't think I did it right,
- 14:42Speaker 1: but just use a bit. It was like it was
- 14:46Speaker 1: the messiest thing of my entire life. And I was
- 14:49Speaker 1: like in the bathroom. My boyfriend was playing Xbox and
- 14:51Speaker 1: I was like, I'm going to try the olive oil
- 14:53Speaker 1: thing and so, but I was already in the share
- 14:55Speaker 1: and naked at this point, so I was like rab
- 14:57Speaker 1: And then he was playing. He had a stupid Xbox
- 15:00Speaker 1: phones and I hate those things, and.
- 15:01Speaker 2: So I was screaming for him.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And then he.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Finally comes in.
- 15:03Speaker 2: He's like what.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm like, can you get the olive oil?
- 15:06Speaker 2: And he's like what.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And I'm in the shower and he's like, why do
- 15:10Speaker 1: you want olive oil right now? And I was like,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I want to take off my fat hand, and he
- 15:15Speaker 1: had no idea what I meant or what I was
- 15:17Speaker 1: talking about, but blest that boy. He just went and
- 15:19Speaker 1: got that giant blug lug of olive oil and I was, yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 1: it was it was al yeah, and I'm pretty sure
- 15:29Speaker 1: all I did was block my drain.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So at this point, oh my.
- 15:34Speaker 3: God, yeah, because you're not You're not supposed to put
- 15:37Speaker 3: oil down the drain, so like.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I wasn't doing it, like with the water running and
- 15:42Speaker 1: just pouring. Yeah, yeah, a little bit in my hand
- 15:44Speaker 1: and started rubbing.
- 15:45Speaker 2: But still not good.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you're probably supposed to do it outside of the shower.
- 15:50Speaker 1: But the inspiration hit me while I.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Was already good, so outside the sh exactly exactly like
- 15:58Speaker 2: that for me. The video that I saw, look was
- 16:02Speaker 2: she doing it?
- 16:03Speaker 1: It wasn't, just like she was in the shower and
- 16:05Speaker 1: it was working. So again I purchased by that. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: think I butchered the process.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Well, her video should have been more instructions. Yeah, right,
- 16:14Speaker 4: deliver I hate comment. I'm joking. Yeah, no constructive on
- 16:19Speaker 4: your short video cover everything ever?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Yes?
- 16:22Speaker 4: Literally?
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:24Speaker 2: What about sunscreens?
- 16:25Speaker 3: There are physical or mineral ones, and then there's chemical
- 16:28Speaker 3: sunscreens as well, which one offers more protection.
- 16:32Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on mineral sunscreens.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Oh so with the sunscreen gate of it all, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 4: and a lot of mineral ones got pulled, and it's
- 16:42Speaker 4: because like the way the mineral UV filters, they like
- 16:46Speaker 4: to clump and so they don't form an even protection
- 16:49Speaker 4: and you know, like if there's holes in your protective film,
- 16:52Speaker 4: it's not going to protect us well because you can
- 16:54Speaker 4: get little spots. So there's that. Some are great though,
- 16:59Speaker 4: there's like a handful of mineral ones that I like,
- 17:03Speaker 4: but in general, I hate the metal smell that they
- 17:05Speaker 4: make when the sun hits. It's just like a pettygrite.
- 17:09Speaker 4: But we have so much money. Yeah, yeah, and when
- 17:16Speaker 4: you see those, we don't have them in this country,
- 17:18Speaker 4: but overseas, you know, there's like SPF one hundred, and
- 17:21Speaker 4: they always chemical filters because it's easier to get a
- 17:25Speaker 4: really really high SBF with a nice blend of chemical
- 17:29Speaker 4: filters than with a mineral one, just because I guess
- 17:32Speaker 4: you have to account for dissolving it differently. So I'm
- 17:37Speaker 4: team chemical in general. But are they not as different
- 17:40Speaker 4: as people make them out to be, Because it's not
- 17:44Speaker 4: really natural that you're getting the zinc out of the
- 17:46Speaker 4: earth as an oxide and then refining it into particles
- 17:50Speaker 4: that are such that you can dissolve them in like
- 17:52Speaker 4: a lotion. Yeah, they disperse them and chemical ones like yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 4: it's just organic, like everything chemical, So it's it's not
- 18:02Speaker 4: that scary. Okay.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I want to switch gears a little bit and talk
- 18:06Speaker 1: about a recent conversation that's been happening. And did you
- 18:10Speaker 1: see how MC beauty recently duped the road glazing milk
- 18:14Speaker 1: And I use the word dupe in quotation marks. We
- 18:18Speaker 1: hate it because can you dupe skincare? Well, feel free
- 18:23Speaker 1: to use this as an example.
- 18:25Speaker 4: You know, back in the day, a dupe would mean
- 18:27Speaker 4: like this shade from cheaper brand is similar to this
- 18:30Speaker 4: shade from expensive brand, and so you get the look
- 18:32Speaker 4: because once it's on your face, it's on your face, right,
- 18:35Speaker 4: And now it's like any any release in the same
- 18:38Speaker 4: category is a dupe.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And the packaging is the similar shape or color.
- 18:43Speaker 4: We hate that. And you know EMCO used to be
- 18:45Speaker 4: so innovative. They're like dubing mascara and they're like tan
- 18:48Speaker 4: in a can, or like they had this lift gloss
- 18:51Speaker 4: that had lights in the lids and a mirror on
- 18:53Speaker 4: the right. Yeah, shame, So I don't know. I haven't
- 18:59Speaker 4: looked at the ingredients. I don't think skincare is really
- 19:03Speaker 4: People do it with the skin cuticles as well, Like
- 19:05Speaker 4: this vitamin C is a JEP for this really expensive one.
- 19:08Speaker 4: It's not tell you because the DUP will give me
- 19:11Speaker 4: peri or optrmatitis, and the skin suiticus one is unfortunately
- 19:15Speaker 4: for my bank account. Beautiful?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Is that to say that, like, affordable skincare isn't as
- 19:20Speaker 1: good as expensive skincare.
- 19:22Speaker 4: No, I think you can get pretty much everything at
- 19:26Speaker 4: a good price these days.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Well that's the thing, because you've created a line of
- 19:31Speaker 1: skincare that actually went viral for being incredible and doing
- 19:35Speaker 1: its job and actually being at a really good price
- 19:38Speaker 1: point for what you got. And that was with TBH, right.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Yeah, as we co developed. We have four products and
- 19:45Speaker 4: we do have a milky tona. So there was discourse
- 19:48Speaker 4: and it was difficult because like when people would say, oh,
- 19:52Speaker 4: this is a JEP for the road, I was like, well,
- 19:53Speaker 4: I haven't even tried it, so how could I have?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, juped it And that wasn't the intention of it. No.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I think is interesting because you look at two different brands,
- 20:02Speaker 1: one that you know has created a product where there's
- 20:04Speaker 1: lots of milky tones on the market. The intention wasn't
- 20:07Speaker 1: to create a dupe of a product, but just to
- 20:08Speaker 1: create a really good product, yeah, versus a separate brand
- 20:12Speaker 1: who has created a product purely for the purpose to
- 20:14Speaker 1: piggyback on another product.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Yeah exactly.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And like, so when it comes to affordable skincare, what
- 20:41Speaker 1: are some brands that you really enjoy?
- 20:44Speaker 4: Ah? Okay, so some Loreal brands have this ingredient melcyl
- 20:51Speaker 4: it's in Lauris Prise, it's in lorel Paris, and it's
- 20:54Speaker 4: in Gharannia, and they each kind of have a serum
- 20:57Speaker 4: for dog spots, and they each have sort of different
- 21:00Speaker 4: other accessory ingredients. But it's really good. Like, what are
- 21:05Speaker 4: their affordable brands? Do you like?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it is nice? The ordinary obviously, the ordinary. They
- 21:15Speaker 4: so innovative, like I think, because they do all over
- 21:18Speaker 4: their like manufacturing themselves, and their chemists can actually like
- 21:24Speaker 4: try things, so very cool. I am excited to see
- 21:28Speaker 4: where they go. Yeah, as well.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Shall we play save or Splurge?
- 21:34Speaker 4: Yes?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Okay, so we're going to give you a list of
- 21:37Speaker 1: products and you're gonna tell us whether you would save
- 21:40Speaker 1: as in, go for a.
- 21:42Speaker 2: More affordable option.
- 21:43Speaker 1: If you have a product in mind, feel free to
- 21:44Speaker 1: share that or splurge and if you would purchase the
- 21:49Speaker 1: more expensive item, and what that would be, Okay, choosing
- 21:55Speaker 1: your child.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Seriously, Okay, been sitting coming up.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Save or splurge cleanses.
- 22:02Speaker 4: I think you can save on cleanses. You just want
- 22:05Speaker 4: one that doesn't strip your skin. So, like, I really
- 22:08Speaker 4: like a cream milk cleanser, which is an unpopular opinion.
- 22:11Speaker 4: A lot of people like that foaming sensation, but qv
- 22:14Speaker 4: face milky cleanser. But you know, if I'm feeling spendy,
- 22:19Speaker 4: then there's like this French brann Belish Egrissh. They have
- 22:22Speaker 4: it at Necker Esthetica, so you have to go into
- 22:25Speaker 4: the clinic to get it. But they make three different
- 22:28Speaker 4: milky cleanses for like dry, one for dull skin, and
- 22:31Speaker 4: one for oily skin, and those are divine. So yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 4: it depends how rich I am on the day. Love
- 22:37Speaker 4: that right, Yeah? Out of us serums, I think you
- 22:42Speaker 4: can save. Yeah, I mean, it depends what you're trying
- 22:47Speaker 4: to achieve. But most of the time we have such
- 22:51Speaker 4: good stuff at Priceline. I can square house now or
- 22:54Speaker 4: K Beauty as well, so affordable. So yeah, you can.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Save, save, splurge tonas.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I think you should save and buy the rebound.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Rebound love that with.
- 23:09Speaker 4: My name on it.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, save or splurge masks.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Okay. So the thing with masks is it's like an
- 23:19Speaker 4: instant reward that you want, right, So if the sheep mask,
- 23:23Speaker 4: it's just hydration maybe a bit of calming, so you
- 23:26Speaker 4: can definitely save. There are some great K beauty ones
- 23:29Speaker 4: that are like three dollars.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Is there one particular one.
- 23:33Speaker 4: There's one that's like itchued House Soon Junk, it's blue.
- 23:40Speaker 4: They keep changing the packaging.
- 23:41Speaker 1: We can put a link in the show notes.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Soon JUNGK sheep mask, and it sort of
- 23:45Speaker 4: feels like the lro pros Sicker Pass sheep masks. Oh
- 23:50Speaker 4: like so even if my skin's angry.
- 23:52Speaker 1: It's oh, I know for everything, it's like.
- 23:57Speaker 2: My like vassalaine literally which love that too.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I do vacaline any problem bit of aso.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Yeah, so I it acne medication skin vasaline, Yeah, sides
- 24:11Speaker 4: of the nose. It's also like, so it won't break
- 24:14Speaker 4: you out. I love ersaline. Yeah, moisturizers I think moisturizer.
- 24:19Speaker 4: It's about the texture, right, and so you do tend
- 24:23Speaker 4: to get a nicer texture when you spend a bit more.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Sometimes I find them more, although CA beauty ones now
- 24:31Speaker 4: are so nice. I've got that Doctor Eltvia one in
- 24:34Speaker 4: my It's not that moisturizing though, so it was better
- 24:37Speaker 4: before I started this medicine. But splurge for moisturizers, yeah,
- 24:43Speaker 4: splurg because it's like that sensation that a lot of
- 24:47Speaker 4: people get fussy about and don't like it. So I
- 24:50Speaker 4: think generally you get a nicer texture when you pay more,
- 24:54Speaker 4: but not always. Yeah. Yeah, and sunscreen you can save
- 25:00Speaker 4: on sunscreen. I think the mid range is probably the
- 25:04Speaker 4: ones that I get the most, So they're not five dollars,
- 25:06Speaker 4: but they're also not fifty dollars. Yeah, in between there, Yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 4: I like pharmacy brands for those.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Do you agree with the statement that the best sunscreen
- 25:16Speaker 1: is the one that you wear?
- 25:17Speaker 4: Definitely? Yeah, But don't rely on their SPF in your makeup.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Okay, that's interesting. So there's a lot of things that
- 25:27Speaker 1: are like tinted sunscreen and tinted SPF, so you don't
- 25:30Speaker 1: like those.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Just if you're supposed to wear I don't want this
- 25:35Speaker 4: to get too convoluted. But there's air quarter teaspoon for
- 25:37Speaker 4: your face, but it could be just a meal, which
- 25:39Speaker 4: is a little bit less. Depends on the size of
- 25:41Speaker 4: your face, and it's because that's how much they use
- 25:44Speaker 4: when they measure their SPF of it. So if you
- 25:46Speaker 4: want to get SPF fifty plus out of your SPF
- 25:49Speaker 4: fifty plus, then you have to wear like a fair
- 25:51Speaker 4: bit and with tinted ones, I just find they look
- 25:55Speaker 4: like you look like Plato. Yeah, on camera it actually
- 25:59Speaker 4: looks better than it does in person. So I remember.
- 26:02Speaker 1: You did a video and it was like, this is
- 26:04Speaker 1: how much tinted SBF I'd have to wear to get
- 26:07Speaker 1: the actual SBF rating, And I was like, okay, yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 1: because people don't think of that.
- 26:12Speaker 2: It's more like that should be an added benefit.
- 26:14Speaker 3: But you still should be wearing your SBF and applying
- 26:17Speaker 3: your SBF regardless of if your other products contain it.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Right. Yeah, I hate to be the fun police, but
- 26:24Speaker 4: it's good.
- 26:24Speaker 1: It's so important, especially living in a country like Australia
- 26:28Speaker 1: where one in three Australians get skin cancer. You know
- 26:32Speaker 1: it's very important. But to wrap up the episode, we
- 26:37Speaker 1: love to ask our guests what's been their biggest life
- 26:39Speaker 1: lesson on their journey so far.
- 26:42Speaker 4: The aim is to give back to your skin, not
- 26:45Speaker 4: to take from it. And I feel like hearing that
- 26:48Speaker 4: really changed the way I treat all my skincare right,
- 26:51Speaker 4: you can't be like attacking it and trying to like
- 26:53Speaker 4: exfoliate it into being smooth or whatever. You have to know. Shit, Yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 4: that's a.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Nice way to look at it.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And for any of the chicks who aren't already, where
- 27:06Speaker 3: can they follow you and find you and read your
- 27:08Speaker 3: book as well?
- 27:10Speaker 4: My book Yeah, it's called Your Best Skin by Hannah
- 27:13Speaker 4: English on social media. I am at Hannah Collingwood English
- 27:17Speaker 4: on Instagram and TikTok is more chaotic. I love it.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Whatever, everything's a journey.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you so much for joining us today.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Long time coming.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely worth the way it went so fast.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It's flies when you're having fun.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And thanks to you chicks for having us in your
- 27:37Speaker 1: ear holes.
- 27:37Speaker 2: We love to be here. We'll see you next time.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Bad bye.
