- 0:49Speaker 2: the way. For today's episode two forty eight, I am
- 0:53Speaker 2: elated to bring you my conversation with Olivia Amato. She's
- 0:57Speaker 2: a Peloton instructor who was living a very different life
- 1:02Speaker 2: just five years ago. In today's episode, she talks to
- 1:06Speaker 2: me about making the major career shift from working in
- 1:10Speaker 2: finance to working in fitness, what the conversation was like
- 1:14Speaker 2: with her boss when she gave her resignation, and how
- 1:18Speaker 2: she adjusted from the nine to five life to more
- 1:22Speaker 2: of a regular grind with no two days being exactly
- 1:27Speaker 2: the same. Signing on with a modeling agency early on
- 1:32Speaker 2: and paving her own way within the fitness space here
- 1:36Speaker 2: in New York City. Olivia also gets really vulnerable today
- 1:39Speaker 2: about what it is like for her to be a
- 1:42Speaker 2: public person and how she manages to protect her peace
- 1:45Speaker 2: and take time for herself, knowing that that is such
- 1:49Speaker 2: a critical component to showing up both on the bike,
- 1:52Speaker 2: on the tread and for her family and friends. And
- 1:56Speaker 2: of course I would have been remiss if I didn't
- 1:58Speaker 2: take this opportunity to talk to Olivia about her personal style,
- 2:02Speaker 2: something that I personally have loved following along with over
- 2:07Speaker 2: the past few years. She talks both about how she
- 2:10Speaker 2: would classify her own style and offers up some really
- 2:13Speaker 2: helpful tips on how to cultivate and create yours as well.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Really loved this one. It was nice to sit down
- 2:21Speaker 2: with live in the studio, and after this chat I
- 2:26Speaker 2: can say that I am certainly really excited for everything
- 2:30Speaker 2: that Olivia was talking about when it comes to the
- 2:33Speaker 2: next evolution of her coaching. Olivia two point zero, I'm
- 2:38Speaker 2: here for it. Make sure you're following along with Hurdle
- 2:41Speaker 2: over on social media. It is at hurdle Podcast. I

- 3:17Speaker 2: this podcast. That's it for now. With that, let's get
- 3:21Speaker 2: to it. Let's get to hurdling today. I'm sitting down
- 3:39Speaker 2: with Olivia Motto. She's a peloton instructor. How are we doing?
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm so I'm doing well.
- 3:44Speaker 2: How are you?
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm trying to say I'm doing well instead of I'm
- 3:47Speaker 1: so good.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Oh that's why? Okay, why is there a reason for that? No?
- 3:51Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it just sounds a bit nicer.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm good, you know, But I feel like
- 3:56Speaker 2: I feel like we say I'm good and it's not
- 3:58Speaker 2: actually yes, it's not an.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Exactly like I could be terrible and I'm like I'm good,
- 4:02Speaker 1: Like there's no intention behind it.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Okay, so wait, let's bring that a level deeper. Okay,
- 4:07Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Really, I'm a little bit stressed right now. Okay, I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: going through a move, which is great, it's all good things,
- 4:15Speaker 1: but just a lot going on, a lot of like
- 4:18Speaker 1: not a lot of time for me to get myself
- 4:20Speaker 1: in my own space and clear my head. It's just go, go,
- 4:23Speaker 1: go right now. Right, So yeah, just a little bit overwhelmed,
- 4:26Speaker 1: if you will.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's so nice to be able to give
- 4:30Speaker 2: all of your energy to a move. It only happens
- 4:32Speaker 2: like so often, right exactly. Ideally you're not picking up
- 4:35Speaker 2: and doing that every year, so it's such a consuming
- 4:38Speaker 2: process and not to be able to be at home
- 4:40Speaker 2: and unboxing totally.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And that's the other thing. I'm boxing, Like, I have
- 4:45Speaker 1: so many things that I have to do this week,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and I'm trying to like pick out my outfits for
- 4:49Speaker 1: it so I can kind of like that's one thing
- 4:51Speaker 1: out of the way, and then I'm like, I don't
- 4:52Speaker 1: know where this is. I don't know where that is.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So I'm like running like a chicken with that head
- 4:55Speaker 1: right now.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I know the feeling. Did you do the movers pack?
- 4:58Speaker 2: You though they did.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You know, I did that game changer.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Game changer. I did that for the first time coming
- 5:04Speaker 2: to this home, okay, and I don't think I'll ever
- 5:07Speaker 2: be able to go back.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Did they unpack you? No? Okay, would you do that
- 5:12Speaker 1: or no? You know?
- 5:13Speaker 2: I So it's funny because obviously, before they packed me,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I didn't know how great it was to have someone
- 5:19Speaker 2: pack you, So I obviously don't know how great it
- 5:21Speaker 2: is for someone to unpack me.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I did like the opportunity to really go through my
- 5:28Speaker 2: things once. I don't think i'd need to do it twice.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So I didn't mind that they didn't unpack me. And
- 5:34Speaker 2: I honestly had all of the boxes out of my
- 5:36Speaker 2: apartment within forty eight hours. Like I was still organizing,
- 5:40Speaker 2: but the boxes were gone.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Yeah. I have about six boxes of shoes that need
- 5:44Speaker 1: home right now, six bocks literally, And my husband's like,
- 5:47Speaker 1: why don't you just give them away? I was like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and I donate and give away like so much stuff.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But like I'm a shoe girl, Like I can't.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't. You're kind of known for that.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I love my shoes.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You're kind of known for being a shoe girl.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I am a little bit.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Does that make you feel any kind of way like
- 6:02Speaker 2: that people have an opinion about your shoe collection.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It makes me be like, wow, I am turning into
- 6:08Speaker 1: my mother, so that's for sure. But I feel like shoes.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I don't know, I just there's something about them that
- 6:14Speaker 1: they like add something to an outfit. They make me happy.
- 6:16Speaker 1: So like, if it brings any happiness or like inspiration
- 6:19Speaker 1: to anybody else, great.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah why not? Yeah? What else is bringing you happiness
- 6:23Speaker 2: right now? What else is bringing me happiness?
- 6:25Speaker 1: So being that we moved, one of the big reasons
- 6:28Speaker 1: we moved was one of my dogs, my recent rescue
- 6:32Speaker 1: Roue has a very bad urban fear. So anytime she
- 6:35Speaker 1: goes out into the city, she like her legs tremble
- 6:38Speaker 1: and she gets really scared and like she won't basically move.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, that's not the happy part. But we
- 6:46Speaker 1: have outdoor space now, so she's living her best life.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We have a dog, like a little dog run in
- 6:51Speaker 1: our building. So like just seeing her be able to
- 6:55Speaker 1: like go outside and be happy and not super stressed
- 6:57Speaker 1: has really brought me a lot happiness.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Did you have dogs before you got into this relationship
- 7:05Speaker 2: and got married? Yes, you did. Yes, Okay. People ask
- 7:08Speaker 2: me all the time, like, oh, don't you want a dog,
- 7:10Speaker 2: because I'm like, I'm listening to your story, I'm like,
- 7:11Speaker 2: I want a dog. My eyes like water instantly when
- 7:14Speaker 2: you bring her up. But I just don't feel like
- 7:16Speaker 2: I have the capacity with all of my travel to
- 7:19Speaker 2: take care of a dog on my own.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Listen, I it is so much work, and it is
- 7:25Speaker 1: great and like for it definitely outweighs all of the
- 7:29Speaker 1: things that you have to do, but there are so
- 7:31Speaker 1: many stresses that come along with it. Like even now
- 7:33Speaker 1: we're going away for our honeymoon in two weeks, I'm like,
- 7:35Speaker 1: who's gonna watch them? Oh my god, I forgot to
- 7:37Speaker 1: like figure out, you know, all of that stuff. It
- 7:39Speaker 1: definitely comes with a lot of stress, and I do
- 7:42Speaker 1: feel like I did it alone for a little bit.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It's a lot harder. Yeah, not saying you can't. Obviously
- 7:46Speaker 1: you could do it total, but it's just, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: being able to split the responsibility with somebody else is
- 7:51Speaker 1: definitely helpful.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, where you go around your honeymoon if you
- 7:53Speaker 2: don't going to Greece, Oh my god, I know it's
- 7:56Speaker 2: so excited. Have you been before I have.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I've been once, my husband has not been. So it's
- 8:02Speaker 1: just I mean, Greece is probably my favorite place in
- 8:04Speaker 1: the world.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Oh my love, I love that. Have you been? I
- 8:07Speaker 2: have not been yet. Okay, that's how I currently feel
- 8:10Speaker 2: about Italy, maybe until I go to Greece.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yes, but I love Italy too. I mean, just there's
- 8:15Speaker 1: so many beautiful places.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's true, It's true. Okay, I'm going to real us in.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yes, real us in. Please, we just like dogs.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You know, hit the ground running. Here. So excited to
- 8:25Speaker 2: have you in the studio. I feel like it's been
- 8:26Speaker 2: a long time coming and it's one of the long
- 8:31Speaker 2: requested episodes that hasn't been in the feed yet to
- 8:35Speaker 2: hear from.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, thanks for having me. I'm so happy to be here.
- 8:39Speaker 2: You now are one of the few. I feel like
- 8:42Speaker 2: like jack of all trades at Peloton, like you teach
- 8:46Speaker 2: a lot of variety. Do you enjoy that?
- 8:50Speaker 1: I do? I think for me, growing up, I taught,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I did all the sports. I was always kind of
- 8:56Speaker 1: like I need to be stimulated in different ways, So
- 8:58Speaker 1: being able to teach different types of classes just keeps
- 9:02Speaker 1: me interested and motivated and like trying. I'm always trying
- 9:06Speaker 1: to figure out ways to level up and make my
- 9:08Speaker 1: classes different and interesting to have people come back and
- 9:11Speaker 1: enjoy it. So I think, you know, me being able
- 9:14Speaker 1: to switch it up is an opportunity for everybody else
- 9:17Speaker 1: to switch it up, and you know, we kind of
- 9:18Speaker 1: get to do it together, which is nice.
- 9:20Speaker 2: In terms of switching it up. I know that you
- 9:23Speaker 2: went to Peloton after starting off like your professional career
- 9:27Speaker 2: working in finance. Did you always feel like excited by
- 9:32Speaker 2: this like new level of challenge or was making that
- 9:35Speaker 2: career pivot a little bit intimidating for you?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Oh? It was totally intimidating. I was excited for sure,
- 9:41Speaker 1: but I didn't have as much support in the beginning.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You know, my parents, I love them, but they were like,
- 9:48Speaker 1: what are you doing? Like how are you leaving this
- 9:51Speaker 1: stable job in finance and going to something that they've
- 9:53Speaker 1: never heard of? You know, it wasn't really a big thing,
- 9:57Speaker 1: So that was really nerve wracking, you know. You know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: getting the approval for my parents is something that I
- 10:04Speaker 1: It's something I've obviously spoke about in therapy and you know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: have been dealing with and figuring out and moving on
- 10:11Speaker 1: from that and being able to kind of like pivot
- 10:14Speaker 1: and do my own thing was a huge like I
- 10:16Speaker 1: felt very alone at times, I felt very uncertain and
- 10:21Speaker 1: just like did I do the right thing? I deep
- 10:22Speaker 1: down I knew I did the right thing, but it
- 10:24Speaker 1: was still scary.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I got into podcasting after getting let go
- 10:30Speaker 2: from a job eventually, So for me, like that transition,
- 10:35Speaker 2: like I didn't have much of a choice in it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: It was like, Okay, well I'm just going to run
- 10:38Speaker 2: at this thing and see how it works, and et cetera,
- 10:41Speaker 2: et cetera. For you, were there like certain benchmarks or
- 10:44Speaker 2: things you wanted to have in place so that you
- 10:46Speaker 2: could feel a little bit more comfortable about jumping at
- 10:49Speaker 2: this passion.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Realistically, yes, but I remember my emotions kind of got
- 10:55Speaker 1: the best to me. I was at a point in
- 10:57Speaker 1: my career where they wanted me to do more and
- 11:00Speaker 1: start to take more tests. So like in finance, you
- 11:03Speaker 1: take like a series seven and then I forget if
- 11:05Speaker 1: it's like a fifty four or fifty like different tests
- 11:08Speaker 1: to kind of enable you to do different things. And
- 11:11Speaker 1: I was getting to the point where I just was like,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I don't want to study for this, Like I knew
- 11:15Speaker 1: if I'm passionate about something, I'm gonna put everything into
- 11:18Speaker 1: every you know, everything I do, and I couldn't care less.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I remember coming back from vacation and it was
- 11:24Speaker 1: a Sunday and I was supposed to go to work
- 11:25Speaker 1: the next day, and I was hysterically crying, like and
- 11:29Speaker 1: I was like, what am I doing? Why, Like you
- 11:32Speaker 1: don't have to be this miserable, Like this is a choice.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So I literally went in the next day and I resigned.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow, I mean that was after a.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Lot of like thinking about it, and you know, it
- 11:42Speaker 1: wasn't just one night.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But yeah, two things to double click on. One, I've
- 11:46Speaker 2: got to hear about how that resignation went. So let's
- 11:49Speaker 2: start there. Oh, tell me about the resignation.
- 11:52Speaker 1: So basically, again, I loved everyone I worked with. I
- 11:54Speaker 1: went into my boss and I was like, listen, I
- 11:57Speaker 1: am unhappy and I love you all, but I am
- 12:01Speaker 1: going to pursue a different career and something that I'm
- 12:04Speaker 1: really passionate about and I really hope you can understand.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And he kind of looked at me. There's not much
- 12:09Speaker 1: emotion going on in the finance world, or at least
- 12:11Speaker 1: where I was, so he's kind of like are you sure,
- 12:14Speaker 1: And I was like yeah, I'm sure. He's like, I
- 12:17Speaker 1: think you should take a walk around the block, like
- 12:19Speaker 1: go get a bacon, egg and cheese, like think about
- 12:21Speaker 1: it a little bit. And I was like okay, So
- 12:23Speaker 1: like I literally did that just to kind of appease him,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and I came back and I'm like, I definitely want.
- 12:30Speaker 2: To do this.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So he basically said like, listen, I believe in you,
- 12:35Speaker 1: like I hope you like do really well in this
- 12:37Speaker 1: and like if you open up a gym all invested in.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was like, great, okay, thank you so much.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Oh my god for the bacon, egg and cheese.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I know.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Right that was like, you know, that was such a
- 12:48Speaker 2: phase for me in my New York corporate life. Like
- 12:50Speaker 2: I can't tell you the last time I went out,
- 12:52Speaker 2: like from my apartment because I work from home now.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Right like that, I left and was like, I'm going
- 12:56Speaker 2: to get a bacon, egg and cheese.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I feel like it's one of those things that like
- 12:59Speaker 1: once you get it, it's like becomes a routine. Oh totally,
- 13:02Speaker 1: Like you know, even I think I would get them
- 13:03Speaker 1: at like that little truck on like the little trucks
- 13:06Speaker 1: on the corner and it just became like a morning ritual.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, Oh my god, wow, Wow that's nuts.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so it was. It was crazy. And I remember
- 13:15Speaker 1: leaving and being like and I took like my little
- 13:18Speaker 1: desk name with me, and I was like, oh my gosh,
- 13:21Speaker 1: like what did I just do? Did I do? Like?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Did I do the right thing? I did the right thing?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Like I was just all over the place.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, waking up the next day, how did you feel?
- 13:29Speaker 1: I felt free?
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I was still a bit scared, and I was like,
- 13:33Speaker 1: but things were happening very quickly. So I actually started
- 13:37Speaker 1: teaching at a gym while I was still working at
- 13:39Speaker 1: Finance in finance, so I was doing it like after
- 13:42Speaker 1: whenever I could kind of get it in, and then
- 13:44Speaker 1: things just kind of like yeah, I didn't even have
- 13:46Speaker 1: time to think.
- 13:47Speaker 2: It's so funny though, because that's like how alignment works, right.
- 13:50Speaker 2: It's like you make a decision that feels right for you,
- 13:52Speaker 2: and then you'll start to notice that things start to
- 13:56Speaker 2: happen for you. Is how it feels. Yeah, So so
- 14:00Speaker 2: what started to happen for you?
- 14:02Speaker 1: So I was kind of I went full time. I was,
- 14:05Speaker 1: you know, teaching one or two classes a week if
- 14:07Speaker 1: I could at that one gym, and then I wound
- 14:10Speaker 1: up getting into so you auditioned for another company, and
- 14:14Speaker 1: I wound up getting into their program to like start,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and it was like a really extensive like training program,
- 14:20Speaker 1: so I was, you know, basically starting in like three
- 14:22Speaker 1: weeks or something. So it was good because I wouldn't
- 14:25Speaker 1: have been able to do both at the same time.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I wound up weirdly getting signed with Wilhelmina Fitness. It's
- 14:32Speaker 1: like a fitness modeling board, their fitness modeling, which is
- 14:37Speaker 1: like I'm very petite, so I'd never in a million
- 14:39Speaker 1: years thought like that would be something I'd be doing.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And that came with you know, I learned a lot
- 14:43Speaker 1: of good things and a lot of bad things from that.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But yeah, it was kind of just like I was
- 14:47Speaker 1: like faking it till I make it kind.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Of thing, super interested in the bad things about Wilhelmina. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 2: I mean not about Wilhelmina, but maybe like your learnings
- 14:56Speaker 2: from like about your side that way. Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just like inecurities I'd never had before
- 15:02Speaker 1: we're now existing and there were things that I could
- 15:06Speaker 1: not change that were an issue for my agent or
- 15:10Speaker 1: whoever that you know, became like a part of my
- 15:16Speaker 1: like everyday thinking. And it's just kind of you know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: things like that, once you're in your head, you can
- 15:21Speaker 1: you have It's crazy how our thoughts work and how
- 15:24Speaker 1: manifestation works, like we can completely build ourselves up or
- 15:27Speaker 1: tear ourselves.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Down, like totally.
- 15:29Speaker 1: No.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and that must be I mean that's like a
- 15:32Speaker 2: whole other level of frustrating when it's part of like
- 15:35Speaker 2: your how you're making money in your job.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I've learned how to kind of block out the noise
- 15:39Speaker 1: and can you know, let go of what I can't
- 15:41Speaker 1: control and what other people say or think. But it's
- 15:45Speaker 1: still you know, everyone's human.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yeah, everyone's human. So you go into this new chapter,
- 15:49Speaker 2: going through the training program and such a different schedule
- 15:53Speaker 2: as well. How what did that work on your mental
- 15:57Speaker 2: side of things?
- 15:58Speaker 1: I think that really helped me. Part of what I
- 16:02Speaker 1: didn't like about working in finance was sitting at a
- 16:04Speaker 1: desk all day, Like I would literally leave to go
- 16:07Speaker 1: pee and they'd be like, where are you going, Like,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I think you cannot leave your desk. So I think that, Yeah,
- 16:15Speaker 1: I think that was super helpful for me kind of
- 16:18Speaker 1: being able to move around more and get more creative
- 16:23Speaker 1: and just be more with myself and thinking about, Okay,
- 16:26Speaker 1: what do you want to do, what's going to make
- 16:28Speaker 1: you happy, what's going to inspire you?
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah, in the quote unquote free time that you had,
- 16:33Speaker 2: how did you start to find yourself filling up that time?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah? I would say, to be honest, I didn't have
- 16:40Speaker 1: a lot of free time. I was kind of running
- 16:42Speaker 1: around from studio to studio or from a studio to training,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and but I did make it a point to kind
- 16:49Speaker 1: of whether it was reading a book. I remember reading
- 16:52Speaker 1: do you know that? Do you remember the book? Is
- 16:55Speaker 1: it You Are a Badass?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah? You know Yellow Book?
- 16:58Speaker 1: The Yellow Book? Yes, I remember reading that and I
- 17:00Speaker 1: had there somebody took a picture of me and reading
- 17:02Speaker 1: it in my chair, and I remember being like, wow,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I didn't know anything then, Like I was just so
- 17:07Speaker 1: And that was a big one for me because it
- 17:09Speaker 1: gave me a lot of confidence to kind of, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: that I was doing the right thing and following what
- 17:14Speaker 1: I wanted to do.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So yeah, reading books, just kind of looking around and
- 17:18Speaker 1: being like what what makes me happy? Like what makes
- 17:21Speaker 1: you tick?
- 17:22Speaker 2: I'll get to the why I'm asking you this, But
- 17:24Speaker 2: do you remember, like what your happiest one of your
- 17:27Speaker 2: happiest moments from that time was. Yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I remember I had a day off from like all
- 17:35Speaker 1: of the training and I didn't have classes that day,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and I went to Central Park and I was just
- 17:40Speaker 1: kind of like sitting there. It was sunny out, and
- 17:43Speaker 1: I was reading a book and I was looking around,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and I was like, I would never be able to
- 17:46Speaker 1: do this and have this moment of just like peace
- 17:51Speaker 1: if I didn't give myself the opportunity.
- 17:55Speaker 2: To, like if you hadn't been okay taking the leap, Yeah, totally.
- 17:59Speaker 2: The way that you're describing this, like it makes me
- 18:01Speaker 2: think of like my hustle, my strong hustle fee It's
- 18:03Speaker 2: like my first year of just like freelance writing. And
- 18:06Speaker 2: I was also teaching at a spin studio ironically and
- 18:10Speaker 2: just crazy. And I think to that year and like,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I feel as though I have very few memories because
- 18:16Speaker 2: I was never actually like truly present where I was.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Yes, do you feel that way all your person? Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 1: And that's why there's like a very few core memories
- 18:24Speaker 1: that stick out. And you know, it could be like
- 18:26Speaker 1: the first class I ever taught to people when people
- 18:29Speaker 1: were in the room or that moment where I was
- 18:30Speaker 1: just kind of sitting there. But very few, Yeah, very few.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Now you are very busy and also running around constantly,
- 18:40Speaker 2: how do you ground yourself amidst all of the to
- 18:44Speaker 2: doos and the chaos and you know, the unsolicited feedback
- 18:47Speaker 2: and everything.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it varies day to day or week
- 18:51Speaker 1: to week. But some weeks, for example, or some days
- 18:56Speaker 1: I want to have a call with my best friend
- 18:58Speaker 1: and just you know, one of my best friends is
- 19:01Speaker 1: just super inspiring. I think I actually told you about her.
- 19:03Speaker 1: She she just motivates me to be better, and she's
- 19:06Speaker 1: like one of those people you always want to kind
- 19:07Speaker 1: of have in your pocket. So like some days I
- 19:09Speaker 1: want to have a conversation with her, and other days
- 19:12Speaker 1: I just want to be by myself and like be
- 19:14Speaker 1: my own thoughts and be in my own like how
- 19:16Speaker 1: are you actually doing? Yeah, so I think it depends.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It could be like literally doing nothing or going on
- 19:23Speaker 1: a bike ride outside, or you know, calling a friend
- 19:26Speaker 1: and having a really deep conversation with them, spending time
- 19:29Speaker 1: with family. Again, it really depends, but I definitely know
- 19:32Speaker 1: my like about myself that I've learned is I need
- 19:35Speaker 1: my alone time.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So much of your work, like your job is showing
- 19:40Speaker 2: up for other people. So knowing what Olivia needs to
- 19:43Speaker 2: take care of Olivia is literally absolutely critical.
- 19:46Speaker 1: One hundred percent. Otherwise I cannot physically or mentally show
- 19:50Speaker 1: up for other people.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yeah. So I mean also part of your job is
- 19:54Speaker 2: getting up early. We're often there bright and early when
- 19:59Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, I should have and the peloton happen,
- 20:00Speaker 2: see what's happening, and it's like, oh, you're already halfway
- 20:02Speaker 2: through whatever you have going on. How do you make
- 20:06Speaker 2: that work for you?
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that is something that's a continuous journey for me.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I definitely go to bed way like early, Like I
- 20:16Speaker 1: try to go to bed by nine o'clock latest when
- 20:18Speaker 1: I have to be up because I'm up at four am.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I am a morning person, which helps. I prefer to
- 20:22Speaker 1: work out in the morning. I always have, so once
- 20:24Speaker 1: I'm up, I'm pretty good. But it does also take
- 20:29Speaker 1: a level of like for me, I know, I need
- 20:31Speaker 1: to teach like a fitness first class in that early
- 20:33Speaker 1: in the morning, because there's not like I feel like
- 20:35Speaker 1: people who are taking that class anyway, like no one
- 20:38Speaker 1: really cares about like my ride to the studio or
- 20:40Speaker 1: like what, like they want to work out, they want
- 20:42Speaker 1: to get a good workout in, and like I get that,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and so I'm kind of catering to that audience as well.
- 20:48Speaker 1: When it's that early in the morning.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I think that's a really smart approach and that's probably
- 20:52Speaker 2: why you're the person that's on the schedule of that time. Yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 2: I think, so, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah, I'm like
- 21:01Speaker 2: not showing up just to like say that I showed
- 21:03Speaker 2: up at that time. No, Now, like.
- 21:05Speaker 1: No one's coming here to just chill, like we are
- 21:07Speaker 1: working out. We're probably gonna get a pr and then
- 21:10Speaker 1: we're gonna go on with our day.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Oh my, you know what I mean? Yes, I do. Okay,
- 21:14Speaker 2: So then let's go back to you getting your feet wet.
- 21:18Speaker 2: In the fitness industry, you start to gain a broader
- 21:21Speaker 2: understanding that you're like, Okay, I've definitely made the right choice.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Talk to me about how you start to feel the
- 21:26Speaker 2: opportunities that come your way.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Yeah. So I did notice there was a time where
- 21:30Speaker 1: I was like, okay, and this is something my mom
- 21:33Speaker 1: always said to me. She's like, you can't be everything
- 21:35Speaker 1: to everyone. You can't do everything, like and I always
- 21:38Speaker 1: wanted to do everything. I wanted to do ice, skating, lacrosse, cheerleading.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I literally wanted to do everything. And I realized when
- 21:43Speaker 1: I do everything, I can't put my all into everything.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It's just physically not like it's impossible. So for me,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I like to do everything one hundred percent. And I
- 21:54Speaker 1: was like, I need to kind of narrow down what
- 21:55Speaker 1: it is I really want to do so I can
- 21:57Speaker 1: do it really well. And that's when I be a
- 22:00Speaker 1: little bit more specific about how it would fill my
- 22:02Speaker 1: time and what I would be doing. So there were
- 22:07Speaker 1: people who would reach out and say, oh, I'm starting this,
- 22:09Speaker 1: this and that, and I you know, I would have
- 22:11Speaker 1: conversations with every single one of them. But I trusted
- 22:15Speaker 1: my gut in what felt right and what really was
- 22:19Speaker 1: interesting to me. And it wasn't like a shiny new toy.
- 22:22Speaker 1: It was like, am I going to actually enjoy doing this?
- 22:25Speaker 1: And why not just Oh this is new? It could
- 22:28Speaker 1: be like the next big thing. So I think that's
- 22:30Speaker 1: kind of where what separated Peloton from all the other
- 22:34Speaker 1: opportunities that were kind of coming at the time.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so interesting, right, And you said that you
- 22:40Speaker 2: got that piece of advice from your mom. Yes, yeah, yes,
- 22:43Speaker 2: because it is exciting to like see the shiny new
- 22:47Speaker 2: thing and be like, let's jump out an was Peloton
- 22:49Speaker 2: not the shiny new thing?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Well it was, but there were other companies being like, hey,
- 22:55Speaker 1: we would love for you to be our master trainer
- 22:58Speaker 1: and this is going to be your salary. And it
- 23:00Speaker 1: all looks and sounds really great, but do you believe
- 23:03Speaker 1: in the product? Do you believe in what they're selling
- 23:06Speaker 1: or are you just jumping at the first thing that's
- 23:08Speaker 1: coming because it seems like it's going to be this big.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Thing, right, and you set a buzzword that I think
- 23:14Speaker 2: a lot of individuals who may be working in fitness
- 23:17Speaker 2: don't get to hear all the time, and that's the
- 23:19Speaker 2: word salary. Right. So you leave this extremely corporate job
- 23:23Speaker 2: and you start to take on different projects that may
- 23:25Speaker 2: not offer you that kind of security. So when something
- 23:28Speaker 2: like that comes your way that offers you security and
- 23:31Speaker 2: also empowers you to do something that you're really passionate about,
- 23:34Speaker 2: that must have been really exciting.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, meaning Peloton or the.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Other ones, I mean whatever whoever says that.
- 23:39Speaker 1: To you, right, hundred percent and which is why again,
- 23:42Speaker 1: like I had to some of these places, and again
- 23:45Speaker 1: it was it was a great opportunity or it looked
- 23:48Speaker 1: really good on paper, but looking back, if I would
- 23:50Speaker 1: have taken that, it would have it wouldn't have.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Been good, right, you know, wouldn't have been the right move.
- 23:55Speaker 1: No, not the right one for me.
- 23:56Speaker 2: When do you sign on full time at Peloton.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Four and a half five years ago now.
- 24:01Speaker 2: And the pandemic started like two years after that? Yeah, okay,
- 24:06Speaker 2: so you had like a moment before the pandemic.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so we So I started on the tread so
- 24:14Speaker 1: we me I guess it was me and Rebecca Maddie.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Wow TBT and that Christopher Street studio.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, us three, like in the basement of that studio,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you know, for all hours, you know, trying to figure
- 24:28Speaker 1: out what you know. You know, Rebecca was the one
- 24:30Speaker 1: who made all the programs and everything, but we were
- 24:32Speaker 1: all in it and spent so much time together. Uh.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And I think I was there for about eight months
- 24:38Speaker 1: before it launched, so we were kind of doing everything
- 24:40Speaker 1: behind the scenes, right. And then a year after that
- 24:43Speaker 1: is when I had a non compete at the old
- 24:45Speaker 1: cycling studios at so I started cycling a year.
- 24:49Speaker 2: After Got It. Got It. When you kind of stepped
- 24:52Speaker 2: onto the Peloton scene, what were your reactions like from
- 24:57Speaker 2: let's say, like the community obviously like a exposure in
- 25:00Speaker 2: a whole new way, Like first reactions, what were they?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I knew that it was where fitness
- 25:08Speaker 1: was going for sure. I because the tread was new.
- 25:11Speaker 1: It was different because you had all of these all
- 25:15Speaker 1: of the people from the Peloton community showing up, but
- 25:17Speaker 1: they obviously didn't know who you were, so people taking
- 25:19Speaker 1: your class for the first time. I think one of
- 25:22Speaker 1: the main things I saw was how passionate the members
- 25:24Speaker 1: were and how much they wanted to be there, and
- 25:27Speaker 1: how they not only showed up for themselves but for
- 25:29Speaker 1: everybody else that was like a part of the community,
- 25:31Speaker 1: which I thought was super super cool. And then also
- 25:34Speaker 1: I remember one of my first experiences kind of before
- 25:39Speaker 1: you know, things changed, was I went to California with
- 25:43Speaker 1: Matt Woopers to a showroom and you know, people were
- 25:49Speaker 1: showing up. I was kind of standing with him and
- 25:50Speaker 1: no one really knew who I was, but everyone knew
- 25:53Speaker 1: who he was, and everyone was showing up with their
- 25:55Speaker 1: power zone graphs in literally Binders and like it was
- 26:00Speaker 1: like he was this superhuman and he is. Yeah, but
- 26:04Speaker 1: like I was like, wow, like this is so crazy,
- 26:07Speaker 1: like people, it almost it hit me kind of then
- 26:09Speaker 1: I knew what we were doing, but I saw the
- 26:11Speaker 1: impact in person, and I was like, that's really cool.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, like wow, And now five years in, how does
- 26:18Speaker 2: that feel to you?
- 26:21Speaker 1: It feels surreal for sure. Like even if somebody sees
- 26:24Speaker 1: me on the street and says hello, I'm like what,
- 26:26Speaker 1: how how do you Like? It's still crazy, but it's
- 26:30Speaker 1: so amazing. Like I used to say, when people are like,
- 26:33Speaker 1: what do you want to do, I'd be like, I
- 26:34Speaker 1: want to impact people in a positive way and make
- 26:37Speaker 1: them feel strong and confident, and I want to impact
- 26:39Speaker 1: as many people as possible. Like that's literally what I'm doing.
- 26:42Speaker 1: So it's crazy yeah to me still, and I'm like
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm really grateful.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Yeah, as many people as possible. You know, when I
- 26:50Speaker 2: started the show, I think that I kind of had
- 26:53Speaker 2: that same mentality, and then I started to realize for
- 26:56Speaker 2: myself that I personally could be more effective if I
- 26:59Speaker 2: dialed in on my totally ish Like I knew that
- 27:02Speaker 2: if I didn't start speaking to young women or women
- 27:05Speaker 2: between like let's say like twenty and forty twenty thirty five,
- 27:08Speaker 2: that I couldn't be as powerful with my messaging.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Do you a really good point?
- 27:14Speaker 2: When you're like creating your classes, you're like you're teaching
- 27:19Speaker 2: the roadmap for your classes. Are you thinking about like
- 27:24Speaker 2: a certain level of athlete?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Totally? So that's a really good point, because yes, we
- 27:30Speaker 1: are reaching so many people. I mean, we have millions
- 27:33Speaker 1: of members now, but different members gravitate towards different people.
- 27:37Speaker 1: So that is one thing I don't try to do
- 27:40Speaker 1: is I know that there are going to be people
- 27:43Speaker 1: who don't want to take my class specifically, but there
- 27:45Speaker 1: are people who do. So I'm catering to the people
- 27:48Speaker 1: who want to show up early, who want to get
- 27:50Speaker 1: a hard workout in, who want to get out of
- 27:52Speaker 1: their comfort zone, or people who want to be an athlete,
- 27:55Speaker 1: and like I want them to know that they are.
- 27:58Speaker 1: You may not know yet, but like we're going to
- 28:00Speaker 1: tap into that athlete together. So I think, yes, I
- 28:04Speaker 1: totally agree with you. You can And that's the thing.
- 28:06Speaker 1: You can't be everything to everyone. Yeah, Like that's that
- 28:08Speaker 1: phrase again.
- 28:09Speaker 2: That is challenging, right because you have to then get
- 28:12Speaker 2: upfront with yourself about the things that excite and motivate
- 28:14Speaker 2: you totally.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And there's a level of boundaries which are so hard
- 28:21Speaker 1: and they're hard to put in place, they're hard to
- 28:24Speaker 1: keep stay true to. Yeah, but coming back to and
- 28:27Speaker 1: that's why I like to be like, Okay, what are
- 28:28Speaker 1: my core values? What excites me? What makes me? You
- 28:31Speaker 1: don't want to just be constantly drained and drained? And yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 1: because again then you're what good are you to yourself?
- 28:37Speaker 1: Even talk to me about boundaries? Yeah?
- 28:41Speaker 2: I mean, was there like a moment where you had
- 28:44Speaker 2: to like really ask yourself what are my boundaries? When? Yeah?
- 28:48Speaker 2: Do you remember that?
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah? I think it's something I still need to ask myself.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And it comes about in different ways throughout different parts
- 28:56Speaker 1: of my life.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So a boundary that I may have had a few
- 28:58Speaker 1: years ago maybe different now and vice versa. And I
- 29:01Speaker 1: think constantly checking in with yourself and being like is
- 29:04Speaker 1: this still serving me? Do I need to create a
- 29:06Speaker 1: new boundary? Maybe you know this is too harsh of
- 29:10Speaker 1: a boundary. Whatever it may be, Like, it's okay to
- 29:13Speaker 1: change it and to you know, shift that a little bit,
- 29:16Speaker 1: like it's your life, it's your you are like fully
- 29:19Speaker 1: responsible for what you want to do in the boundaries
- 29:22Speaker 1: that you create.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Right, So, okay, an example here, you told me that
- 29:26Speaker 2: you like to go to sleep at the latest by nine,
- 29:29Speaker 2: if you're going to be up at four and going
- 29:31Speaker 2: to teach class. Give me an example of like a
- 29:34Speaker 2: boundary you set so that happens. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 1: So, I mean sometimes people are like, can we go
- 29:39Speaker 1: out to dinner this day? And I really want to
- 29:42Speaker 1: go and I want to see my friends. I'm like, no,
- 29:44Speaker 1: I need to put this boundary in place because I'm
- 29:46Speaker 1: not going to be able to function if I go.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So I'm so sorry, but I need, like to my friends.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I need you to understand because otherwise it's not good
- 29:55Speaker 1: for me for the rest of the week. Like right,
- 29:57Speaker 1: let's make plans else elsewhere or if Dan, for instance,
- 30:00Speaker 1: wants to stay up and watch TV or do something else,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I need to set that boundary of like, okay, you
- 30:05Speaker 1: can do that, but like I'm gonna go to bed,
- 30:07Speaker 1: like please try not to wake me up. Yeah, and
- 30:10Speaker 1: following those you have to follow through otherwise there's no point, right,
- 30:15Speaker 1: you know.
- 30:16Speaker 2: For the person listening to this that wants to do
- 30:19Speaker 2: that but feels like other people may think it's selfish.
- 30:24Speaker 2: What do you tell them?
- 30:27Speaker 1: I would say that the people who truly care about
- 30:31Speaker 1: you and have your best interests will one hundred percent
- 30:36Speaker 1: value that and support that. And again, if there are
- 30:39Speaker 1: people who are not, I don't it's hard to say
- 30:43Speaker 1: like person by person, but they probably don't have your
- 30:46Speaker 1: best interests at heart. Yeah.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah, And I feel like we all have to go
- 30:49Speaker 2: through a moment or a situation or an experience that
- 30:52Speaker 2: like teaches us the importance of upkeeping our boundaries right,
- 30:57Speaker 2: Like you have like one bad morning when you wake
- 30:59Speaker 2: up and you're like, I shouldn't have done that. And
- 31:01Speaker 2: it's like when you're young and you go to the
- 31:03Speaker 2: stove and you touch the stove and you learn that
- 31:05Speaker 2: it's hot and you're like, okay, I can't do that again.
- 31:07Speaker 2: The same thing happens with our boundaries one hundred percent.
- 31:09Speaker 1: And also the people in your life, they may be
- 31:12Speaker 1: a little bit like wait, what what's going on at first,
- 31:15Speaker 1: but again, if they have your best interest and they
- 31:17Speaker 1: love you and want what's best for you, they're going
- 31:19Speaker 1: to adapt to it as well, and they're going to
- 31:21Speaker 1: understand it.
- 31:22Speaker 2: We often hear that we are a summary of the
- 31:25Speaker 2: people that we spend the most time with. Tell me
- 31:28Speaker 2: what it is about your husband that made you know
- 31:32Speaker 2: that he was the person that you wanted to spend
- 31:34Speaker 2: the most time with. Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So, well, we met in COVID, so I had no choice,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and I'm just kidding. No, no, no, he is. We
- 31:43Speaker 1: are so different. But all of the things that like
- 31:46Speaker 1: I wish I possessed a little bit more, he has.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So he's so like chill and patient, and he's just
- 31:55Speaker 1: kind of like like anybody who's ever met him is
- 31:57Speaker 1: just like he's just easy, like you can throw into
- 32:00Speaker 1: anything and he'll adapt. Like he's so loving and just
- 32:03Speaker 1: he's just a really good nice person.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, are you insinuating that you're not a really good, nice,
- 32:10Speaker 2: chill person.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I'm really crazy and I'm horrible.
- 32:13Speaker 2: No, I mean I am a.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Good person, for sure. It's more so like the way
- 32:19Speaker 1: I don't know, he just makes me think about that,
- 32:21Speaker 1: Like I'm kind of like go go, go, go out,
- 32:23Speaker 1: like whatever, yes, and he's like, let's sit down for
- 32:26Speaker 1: a second and like think about it.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 1: That's kind of where he balances me out a little bit.
- 32:30Speaker 1: And then there's also like there's times where I just
- 32:33Speaker 1: may be in my own feelings and not want to
- 32:36Speaker 1: do anything, and it's not necessarily a boundary. So there's
- 32:38Speaker 1: no reason why I'm just sitting in bed on a
- 32:40Speaker 1: Friday night and he's like, come on, let's let's go
- 32:42Speaker 1: do something like it could be going down the street.
- 32:44Speaker 1: But it makes me feel so much better than I
- 32:46Speaker 1: would have if I was just.
- 32:47Speaker 2: You mentioned COVID the sea word. Talk to me about
- 32:51Speaker 2: how your mental state was during let's say, like the
- 32:54Speaker 2: brunt of the pandemic.
- 32:58Speaker 1: My mental state was. It was confusing, for sure, because
- 33:04Speaker 1: I was teaching from home and we weren't living together yet,
- 33:08Speaker 1: so I had an entire like studio set up in
- 33:10Speaker 1: my apartment. So I just felt I was, like what,
- 33:13Speaker 1: I was very confused. I was also nervous and anxious.
- 33:18Speaker 1: My dad he's okay now, but he has had lymphoma,
- 33:23Speaker 1: So I was just very anxious about that all the time,
- 33:25Speaker 1: and like I didn't want to go see them because
- 33:27Speaker 1: I didn't want to compromise the fact that I, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 1: it was just it was a very uncertain time and
- 33:33Speaker 1: it was scary, Like I think I was definitely, you know,
- 33:37Speaker 1: there were days where I didn wouldn't see people for
- 33:38Speaker 1: so were you know, weeks, and I was, you know,
- 33:40Speaker 1: it was definitely feeling it for sure.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah. It's so interesting because you're from New York, right, Yeah,
- 33:45Speaker 2: so being so close to our parents my parents are
- 33:47Speaker 2: in Connecticut, and yet being so far removed. I remember
- 33:52Speaker 2: my dad came once and we weren't allowed to hug,
- 33:56Speaker 2: and we stood like six feet apart the entire time,
- 33:58Speaker 2: and he brought me like things from Costco as dads too.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Totally totally. It was so yeah, like we would go
- 34:05Speaker 1: drive by and like wave in the window. It's like, okay,
- 34:08Speaker 1: you know, it was just it was it was strange.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Do you believe that the pandemic was good for you?
- 34:14Speaker 1: I do think it was good for us. I think
- 34:16Speaker 1: I was at a point in my life where I
- 34:18Speaker 1: was for the first time, I was really figuring out
- 34:22Speaker 1: what it was like to be on my own, and
- 34:24Speaker 1: I was well into it. So it wasn't like, you know,
- 34:26Speaker 1: I jumped right back into a relationship, but I was
- 34:28Speaker 1: finally happy being by myself. And I don't know if
- 34:32Speaker 1: it would have moved as quick or you know, if
- 34:36Speaker 1: the pandemic didn't happen. So I think that it wouldn't
- 34:39Speaker 1: have moved as quick, and it definitely, you know, deep
- 34:42Speaker 1: into our connection in terms of like we were the
- 34:44Speaker 1: only people that we would see.
- 34:46Speaker 2: So it's so great. It feels like forever ago, but
- 34:48Speaker 2: also it wasn't forever ago.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I know, and it feels like things are like completely
- 34:53Speaker 1: back to how they were before.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Like it's like nothing ever happened, I know, except you
- 34:57Speaker 2: walk out on the street and you still see the
- 34:58Speaker 2: masks and you're like, nope, yeah, still here's something still out.
- 35:01Speaker 1: For sure.
- 35:03Speaker 2: You did just touch on the fact that your father
- 35:05Speaker 2: had been sick. When you're navigating something that you're not
- 35:09Speaker 2: talking about on camera, how does that impact how you
- 35:13Speaker 2: show up on camera.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's also something that's kind of changed throughout the years.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I think I used to try to just like completely
- 35:22Speaker 1: shut it off and like the camera would go on
- 35:24Speaker 1: and like none of that existed, right, and then the
- 35:27Speaker 1: camera would go off and it existed again. I think
- 35:29Speaker 1: that's kind of how I used to do it, and
- 35:32Speaker 1: I don't know how healthy that really was.
- 35:34Speaker 2: For myself totally.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Now that being said, I'm not going on camera crying
- 35:38Speaker 1: and telling everybody, you know, because that's not you know,
- 35:41Speaker 1: my job is to uplift people and motivate people. But
- 35:45Speaker 1: if I'm showing up in a way that's like, that's honest,
- 35:48Speaker 1: and I'm like, all right, I'm not feeling great today,
- 35:51Speaker 1: but we're here together and we're going to do it.
- 35:53Speaker 1: There is something about that honesty and that vulnerability that
- 35:56Speaker 1: you know other people are dealing with things too, and
- 35:58Speaker 1: it makes other people feel not as alone in yourself.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that there's a really beautiful thing
- 36:04Speaker 2: about that vulnerability, but it can be challenging as someone
- 36:07Speaker 2: who is a public facing person to like let them
- 36:09Speaker 2: in a little and then still feel like you're really
- 36:14Speaker 2: not showing up as your full self.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yes, it is probably the most challenging thing I find
- 36:19Speaker 1: about the job, to be honest.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, for sure, I think not knowing like giving
- 36:24Speaker 1: a little and then I'm like, oh, maybe I shouldn't
- 36:26Speaker 1: like and again you want to open up. But then
- 36:30Speaker 1: the more you open up, the more you're opening yourself
- 36:32Speaker 1: up to that you know, everything else that comes with it.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Yeah, talk to me about that, everything else that comes
- 36:38Speaker 2: with it, what comes with it?
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you know, there are so many amazing people, truly,
- 36:44Speaker 1: but there's always going to be people who also want
- 36:46Speaker 1: to just bring you down, and that could be you know.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Another thing that I learned was the way people treat
- 36:53Speaker 1: other people as a really big reflection of how they
- 36:56Speaker 1: feel about themselves and how they treat themselves. So that's
- 36:58Speaker 1: something that's helped me. But yeah, you get the negative
- 37:02Speaker 1: people who want to say something mean, just to say
- 37:04Speaker 1: something to me and just to hurt you. And again
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's that is noise. But there are things sometimes that
- 37:09Speaker 1: make you a question like, oh wait, did you know?
- 37:12Speaker 2: And that's a.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Struggle that you know, or learning process, a learn in progress, yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: a learning right learn.
- 37:19Speaker 2: We are really on a roll, a work in.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Progress progress, thank you. Oh my god.
- 37:24Speaker 2: This is like wheel of fortune literally live, nearly live
- 37:27Speaker 2: wheel of fortune today, constant work in progress. But all
- 37:30Speaker 2: of us are right. But I think the thing is
- 37:32Speaker 2: is that, especially with what you do, individuals and the members,
- 37:36Speaker 2: by no fault of their own, but they tend to
- 37:38Speaker 2: put all of you on this pedestal, right, and it's
- 37:41Speaker 2: as though you feel as though and I'm not trying
- 37:44Speaker 2: to put words in your mouth, but just from the
- 37:45Speaker 2: conversations that I've had with so many of the other instructors,
- 37:48Speaker 2: it's like you feel as though you're not supposed to
- 37:50Speaker 2: have any flaws, like you're not supposed to mess up, Like,
- 37:53Speaker 2: oh I am like that everyone's following me like I
- 37:56Speaker 2: can't mess this up, and it's like that wouldn't be
- 37:59Speaker 2: realistic totally.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah, which is again like I've learned that that no
- 38:05Speaker 1: one wants, like it's not good to be like robotic
- 38:07Speaker 1: any Like people want to feel like there's a connection
- 38:10Speaker 1: between you two, and how to feel a connection is like, oh,
- 38:14Speaker 1: we're both feeling the same way or going We're both
- 38:17Speaker 1: you know, going through the same thing but in different ways.
- 38:19Speaker 1: You know.
- 38:20Speaker 2: What would you say is the part of your job
- 38:23Speaker 2: that you like the most. We've talked about like the
- 38:25Speaker 2: most challenging part of your job, But what do you
- 38:28Speaker 2: like the most?
- 38:29Speaker 1: I really love teaching, So like when the camera goes
- 38:31Speaker 1: on and I'm teaching, like and anything that happened before,
- 38:34Speaker 1: I'm kind of like whatever, Like it could be like
- 38:35Speaker 1: I was, you know, my car was laid or whatever.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Like I really enjoy it and like I feel so
- 38:41Speaker 1: good during and after. It's just something I love to do.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you block out a little bit when you're teaching?
- 38:47Speaker 1: Yes?
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, for.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Sure, And sometimes I'll say things like what what did
- 38:52Speaker 1: I just say? Or like how did I like this
- 38:54Speaker 1: Wheel of fourteen?
- 38:55Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 38:56Speaker 1: Like it could be yeah, but I do. And one
- 38:59Speaker 1: of my favorite things is like meeting actually meeting members
- 39:01Speaker 1: in real life and them telling you, like I ran
- 39:03Speaker 1: a marathon and listen to the like things that are
- 39:05Speaker 1: you know, life changing moments that I get to be
- 39:07Speaker 1: a part of that I have no idea about, and
- 39:09Speaker 1: then they tell me it's really cool.
- 39:11Speaker 2: What is exciting you the most? About what's to come?
- 39:16Speaker 1: What's exciting me the most? I would say I am
- 39:20Speaker 1: at a point where I am kind of looking to
- 39:24Speaker 1: my next like evolution of me and who I am
- 39:27Speaker 1: as an instructor and you know, marinating the two of them.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So I feel like I'm excited about, you know, the
- 39:36Speaker 1: new me that I can bring, not new me, but
- 39:39Speaker 1: like what else can I How can I like level
- 39:42Speaker 1: up to show everybody else like look like I can
- 39:46Speaker 1: do that too sort of thing, and you know, bring
- 39:48Speaker 1: new things to the table and just keep people interested
- 39:51Speaker 1: in keep people wanting to show up for themselves.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, So when you say level up, what does that
- 39:57Speaker 2: look like?
- 39:58Speaker 1: So I think for me, it's not about like a
- 40:00Speaker 1: physical it's more about being able to be more of
- 40:07Speaker 1: myself because it's so funny, like people who really know
- 40:10Speaker 1: me are like, oh my God, like, yes, that's you,
- 40:13Speaker 1: and like it's not like I'm put but it's the
- 40:15Speaker 1: serious me. And then there's like this whole other part
- 40:17Speaker 1: of me that like no one else knows because I
- 40:20Speaker 1: don't know, Like I'm just not really like my goofy,
- 40:22Speaker 1: funny self when I'm on there because I'm so focused.
- 40:25Speaker 1: But I feel like there are ways to kind of
- 40:27Speaker 1: incorporate a little bit more of me into it so
- 40:30Speaker 1: that people can get to know me a little more.
- 40:31Speaker 2: I think that that is It's so funny, right because
- 40:35Speaker 2: you you're five years into this journey, but you're still
- 40:38Speaker 2: figuring out how to like be your most authentic self.
- 40:42Speaker 2: And that is a testament, I believe, of how much
- 40:46Speaker 2: you care about the product that you're creating totally and
- 40:49Speaker 2: it's beautiful, You're welcome Aside from work, What else are
- 40:53Speaker 2: you excited about right now?
- 40:55Speaker 1: I am excited about So I'm actually coming out with
- 40:58Speaker 1: a Puma collection, like a collection, which I'm really excited
- 41:01Speaker 1: about because fashion is a huge, huge, passion of mine.
- 41:06Speaker 1: I love it and I get to kind of I
- 41:08Speaker 1: do get to, you know, bring the two together and
- 41:11Speaker 1: deliver something that I'm hoping people are going to really like,
- 41:14Speaker 1: so that I'm very excited about. And my honeymoon, which
- 41:16Speaker 1: I'm amped. It's like a year overdue, but I'm so
- 41:20Speaker 1: excited to you know, just get in the sun and
- 41:22Speaker 1: kind of chill.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I feel like, you know, your followers and like the
- 41:27Speaker 2: Peloton members really got to see how excited you were
- 41:30Speaker 2: about fashion during your whole wedding process. Does it feel
- 41:34Speaker 2: like you still have the opportunity to express yourself like
- 41:37Speaker 2: you did back then.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yes, for sure. Obviously the wedding was like I could
- 41:43Speaker 1: do the most with it the most, but I still
- 41:46Speaker 1: feel like, you know, we're always doing things and we
- 41:48Speaker 1: have events to go to, and I get to express
- 41:50Speaker 1: it in different ways. So maybe it's not a wedding dress,
- 41:52Speaker 1: but it could be even on camera. Like I love
- 41:54Speaker 1: to change up my looks. I love to make it interesting.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Like I feel like when I feel good in what
- 41:59Speaker 1: I'm wearing, it just makes me kind of like show
- 42:03Speaker 1: up better.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, are you working with a stylist currently?
- 42:06Speaker 1: No?
- 42:07Speaker 2: Okay, currently no, This whole week.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I have things coming up and like they are requiring
- 42:11Speaker 1: specific looks, and I'm like, oh my god, what am
- 42:13Speaker 1: I gonna do? What am I gonna wear it?
- 42:14Speaker 2: If you had to describe your sense of personal style,
- 42:16Speaker 2: like what words would you use?
- 42:18Speaker 1: I think it's kind of like casual, tomboy.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Chic, oh love the sheeic thrown in there, you know
- 42:25Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 42:26Speaker 1: Like yeah, because it's like yeah, I think I think
- 42:29Speaker 1: that's what it would because it's very like street stylely,
- 42:31Speaker 1: but like then sometimes it can be elevated or like
- 42:34Speaker 1: tomboy elevated.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Kind of for someone who's trying to home in on theirs,
- 42:39Speaker 2: what advice do you have for them?
- 42:41Speaker 1: I think wearing what makes you feel good, So like colors,
- 42:45Speaker 1: like I know everyone's talking about like the color palette,
- 42:47Speaker 1: but like if color Palett's telling you to wear hot
- 42:49Speaker 1: pink and you don't like it and you don't feel
- 42:51Speaker 1: good in it, like don't wear it. Yeah, kind of
- 42:52Speaker 1: channeling in on something that makes you feel good and
- 42:54Speaker 1: then like adding to it from there. And I also
- 42:57Speaker 1: don't think there's anything wrong with like if I find
- 42:59Speaker 1: a pair of ants that fit me really well, like
- 43:01Speaker 1: I'm getting every color. Yeah, literally every color, and yeah,
- 43:06Speaker 1: like that's a wardrobe, Like find your staples and then
- 43:08Speaker 1: you can build from those staples.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Love that, But great advice here, great advice. Speaking of advice,
- 43:14Speaker 2: we've talked about some highs and lows from the last
- 43:16Speaker 2: few years from you. During one of the lows, what
- 43:20Speaker 2: would you say as some of the best advice that
- 43:22Speaker 2: you or offered that helped you get over that hurdle.
- 43:25Speaker 1: I think something that resonates with me still that was
- 43:29Speaker 1: a really solid piece of advice was actually from a
- 43:32Speaker 1: friend of mine, and she said, you got to take
- 43:35Speaker 1: full responsibility for your life. And to me, that resonated
- 43:40Speaker 1: in every sense. So like it could be taking responsibility
- 43:43Speaker 1: for how I'm feeling for you know, changes that I
- 43:47Speaker 1: want to make for actions that I've done. So it
- 43:49Speaker 1: could be owning up to something and be like, you
- 43:51Speaker 1: know what that was wrong of me, I'm sorry, But
- 43:53Speaker 1: it could also be like, Okay, what you're feeling right
- 43:56Speaker 1: now is valid, so let's change it up, let's change
- 43:59Speaker 1: the direction. And I think that is something that still
- 44:03Speaker 1: resonates with me because I'm the one in control. Like
- 44:06Speaker 1: the actions you take create the life you're living. Take
- 44:09Speaker 1: a hold of it and it's yours. So you could
- 44:11Speaker 1: choose to be miserable and negative, and that's going to
- 44:16Speaker 1: create the life, this kind of negative life, right, Well,
- 44:19Speaker 1: you choose to be positive, and that is going to
- 44:22Speaker 1: be a ripple effect of you know what happens.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I feel like I've said this analogy
- 44:27Speaker 2: on the show, But it's like choosing to be a
- 44:28Speaker 2: positive or an optimistic versus a pessimistic person. And it's
- 44:31Speaker 2: like as simple as walking out your door and noticing
- 44:33Speaker 2: what you see on the street. You either notice like
- 44:36Speaker 2: this puddle of dirty water because you're a pessimist, or
- 44:38Speaker 2: you notice like the cute elderly couple crossing the street.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Together one hundred percent. And I think I have to
- 44:43Speaker 1: check myself too sometimes because I can be one, I
- 44:45Speaker 1: could be both of those. But being like, you're responsible
- 44:49Speaker 1: for your life. When I tell myself that and I
- 44:51Speaker 1: instead of going along with that negative thought and continuing
- 44:55Speaker 1: that for the rest of the day, that makes me
- 44:58Speaker 1: switch and pivot and then I'm you know, looking for
- 45:00Speaker 1: the positive.
- 45:01Speaker 2: When you feel like you're in a pattern of seeing
- 45:03Speaker 2: only the negatives, what can you do to shake that up?
- 45:07Speaker 1: It could be literally sitting down and taking a couple
- 45:09Speaker 1: of deep breaths and being like getting yourself together. It
- 45:11Speaker 1: could be meditating, like sometimes I'll throw on one of
- 45:14Speaker 1: our meditations five minutes and I feel like I genuinely
- 45:17Speaker 1: feel like a brand new human being. And you know,
- 45:20Speaker 1: I think a lot of it with me is self
- 45:21Speaker 1: talk and just being like why are you what's going
- 45:24Speaker 1: on here? Why are you feeling this way? Why are
- 45:27Speaker 1: you being negative? And figuring it out? You know, maybe
- 45:29Speaker 1: it's something deeper, let's look into it, you know.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Thing, I've definitely been in some patterns as of
- 45:35Speaker 2: lately that I'll say these things to myself that we're
- 45:38Speaker 2: talking talking about, right, Like, I'll say, you're in control.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Today's the first day you can take ownership of this.
- 45:44Speaker 2: But then I still find myself in this like not
- 45:48Speaker 2: so positive loop. Have you ever been in something like that?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Totally? Yes.
- 45:52Speaker 2: And the only way that I know how to get
- 45:55Speaker 2: out of it that has worked for me in the
- 45:56Speaker 2: past and is literally what I'm doing right now is
- 45:59Speaker 2: like being okay asking for help from friends.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I think that's what that's the difference there
- 46:07Speaker 1: is like maybe you do need help, and it's not
- 46:09Speaker 1: about you're not being negative. You just need help with something, yeah,
- 46:12Speaker 1: And that's okay, yeah, ask for help. Totally figuring out
- 46:15Speaker 1: the difference between Okay, I'm being negative or I actually
- 46:18Speaker 1: need help with something, you know.
- 46:19Speaker 2: And I think it's so easy not to want to
- 46:21Speaker 2: ask for help always, right, Like we want to do
- 46:23Speaker 2: everything on our own, yes, And oh my god, I
- 46:26Speaker 2: have to like be better about being like hey, yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 1: And once you do it, you're like, oh, I'm really
- 46:30Speaker 1: glad I did that. That was like so beneficial and
- 46:32Speaker 1: I'm you know y, but the act of doing it.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Oh so hard. I have never regretted being like, hey,
- 46:39Speaker 2: this thing's really important to me and I could really
- 46:41Speaker 2: use you to back me up on this one percent.
- 46:43Speaker 2: But that was like something that took years for me
- 46:45Speaker 2: to like get over. Definitely like a childhood thing, like
- 46:48Speaker 2: I can handle this on my own. I don't need anybody.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I mean saying, someone goes to your Instagram page, they
- 46:54Speaker 2: see this like Peppi Peloton instructor with over like something
- 46:58Speaker 2: like five hundred thousand followers. When you look in the mirror,
- 47:01Speaker 2: what is it that you see looking back at you.
- 47:05Speaker 1: That's a question.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I'm already sweating.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I know, what do I see looking back at me?
- 47:10Speaker 1: I see I'm not good at complimenting myself or any
- 47:14Speaker 1: like all of that stuff which I am working on.
- 47:16Speaker 1: But I think, yeah, when I look at myself, I
- 47:18Speaker 1: see a normal person. I don't see you know, yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 1: I see myself as just a normal person living in
- 47:24Speaker 1: New York, working my ass off, doing it, doing the thing.
- 47:28Speaker 2: What are you proud of that you see?
- 47:31Speaker 1: I'm proud that I have. This is also something that
- 47:34Speaker 1: I feel like I've been more aware of that I am,
- 47:38Speaker 1: and it is making me appreciate my body. That I
- 47:40Speaker 1: have a body that is capable of doing things and
- 47:44Speaker 1: able to move and able to like that is something
- 47:47Speaker 1: that motivates me more than anything. So I think acknowledging
- 47:51Speaker 1: that and having an appreciation for my body that's not like,
- 47:54Speaker 1: it's not all about looks. It's not. It's really barely
- 47:58Speaker 1: it's you know, it's like not even a fraction of it. So, yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: just appreciating what I'm capable of doing physically and that
- 48:04Speaker 1: I'm able to do it.
- 48:05Speaker 2: What would you say is one of the qualities about
- 48:08Speaker 2: yourself that you love the most?
- 48:12Speaker 1: I love my sense of humor, Like when I'm around
- 48:14Speaker 1: people who get my humor and we're you know, we're
- 48:18Speaker 1: kind of going at it. I love that, Like I'm
- 48:20Speaker 1: just happiest when I'm laughing. Yeah, so yeah, I think
- 48:23Speaker 1: it'd have to be that.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Right now, you have an opportunity to offer yourself a
- 48:26Speaker 2: piece of advice back when you were in the transition
- 48:30Speaker 2: from corporate America to what you're doing now, knowing what
- 48:35Speaker 2: you know now, what would you tell yourself?
- 48:39Speaker 1: I think it would have to be the you can't
- 48:43Speaker 1: be everything to everyone piece of advice, because back then
- 48:47Speaker 1: I would have been, like, I want everyone to like me,
- 48:49Speaker 1: Why doesn't this person like like? It would have been
- 48:51Speaker 1: more focused on wanting to be like everything to everybody,
- 48:56Speaker 1: And I think knowing that back then may have made
- 48:59Speaker 1: the try transition a little bit easier and may have
- 49:02Speaker 1: allowed me to be more authentic, not that I was inauthentic,
- 49:07Speaker 1: which is less robotic, more of me and quicker.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, quicker Yeah. Would you have told yourself that?
- 49:15Speaker 1: Though?
- 49:15Speaker 2: Looking back?
- 49:16Speaker 1: I don't think I would though, because I feel like
- 49:17Speaker 1: it's a lesson that I learned and I'm still learning
- 49:20Speaker 1: and it's allowing me to kind of evolve from who
- 49:23Speaker 1: I was to who I am now and who I'm
- 49:26Speaker 1: going to be. You know, what's the fun if it
- 49:28Speaker 1: just all happens at once?
- 49:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what's the fun of it. Yeah. I'm
- 49:31Speaker 2: so happy that we were able to do this, me too.
