- Amy: Welcome to your very first episode of Rock the Life Friday 5. Something new. Right, right? Something Katya: Something new. That Amy: new. Katya: we are going to base the five around a Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: theme for who we're interviewing to just kind of get their take on their top five of something. Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right? It's always a surprise. Not the same thing twice. Well, maybe we'll recycle eventually, Right? Katya: Maybe compare to see what people have to say. Amy: That would be fun. if you guys haven't noticed, we haven't been around a lot this summer. Katya, what have you had going on? Katya: I moved away from Italy to Kosovo Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: this summer. So it has been a lot of packing and unpacking and moving and getting to Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: know a new place. Amy: Right. Katya: and in between that I have tried to go to as many concerts and events as I could possibly squeeze in into the last few months. And Amy, Amy: Right. So exciting. I Katya: you have a new background too. Amy: I am currently on location at my mom's. we have had some internet issues at my house. Right? so anyway, this this will be it for a little bit. I am giddy with excitement. you guys, I'm headed toward two, headed toward two, headed to the rock star reset. Katya: you're heading to Spain, but I also got to head to Spain in August last month to see Amy: You did it. Mm-hmm. Katya: Eric Grandwell at Palma Music Studios, which was one of the highlights of my concert goings for forever. It was amazing. And it was also amazing Amy: Bitch. Katya: because we got to meet so many fellow fans. I'll take that because Amy: Right? I'm just gonna sit here Katya: it was it was incredible. So I'm excited you get to go to Spain back. So like you know, all you musicians wanna go to Spain, do We're gonna show up. Amy: Right? Seriously, my gosh. Say the same thing. Katya: So, with that, we're gonna start off with my Friday five. And my Friday Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: five is going to be Top five Eric Grownwall covers which Amy: Nice. Katya: you can go on his YouTube and see them. So let's see. I'm gonna start it off no particular order. but I am going to Amy: That'll be in the description, so Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm curious to hear what you have to say. Katya: One that came out this week is Stand By Me, the Dark Version. always Amy: Mm, mm-hmm. Katya: loved that song, and now super happy that Eric did that cover, and that one has been that's been on repeat. But you know, one Amy: Nice. Katya: of the covers that I played for my family that they just couldn't stop Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: listening to. We'd listen to when we were driving all through the holidays was Holy Night. And Amy: I know you love that one. Katya: It is such a beautiful version of it. He does it in Swedish too, a Swedish version too, but him and Jonah T doing Holy Night. Hmm. That's a good one. Amy: Right, right. It's beautiful. I knew that was gonna be on your list. I I knew it. I was like, I'm curious to see like how your list right. Katya: I talk about it all the time? Could that be why? Amy: I know, right? I'm curious to see how on your list, like if you hit some of the ones that I specifically think of, when I when I think about are they called what are are they Ericisms? Gronwall, what is he it's it's what does he call He calls them like expl Eric's plane er explanations. Eric, Eric Yeah. Katya: Explanations, explanations. Amy: Yeah. So there we go. So okay. So that's five and four. What's three? Katya: I'm gonna say Hallelujah, which that song I always think of Jeff Buckley singing it, but it's a Leonard Cohen song. And I will hear that song played by buskers Amy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Katya: on the street wherever I'm traveling around the world. And whenever I hear it, I stop. I have to give money. Cause I love it. And Eric singing Amy: Yeah, no joke. Mm-hmm. Katya: it is just so powerful. So definitely Amy: It is Katya: Hallelujah is one of the ones. Amy: It is incredibly powerful. I I really love that one too. All right. Two. Katya: Okay. another one is Zombie that was done by the cranberries and Dolores O'Reardin. Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: And the cranberries have been a band that since I was like a young one, and I went to one of their record release parties like way back when Amy: Mm-hmm. You did? Katya: in England with with Jenny. So we were there. It was one of those epic nights, and it was the cranberries. Yeah. So Amy: gosh I didn't know I did not know that Katya: It was yeah, that was my other so zombie is a song that I have always loved and then with Amy: Mm-hmm. Katya: Dolores passing last year, you just start thinking about that one more and Eric singing it just that one makes me cry when I hear it when I hear him singing so Amy: Aww That's excellent. Okay, number one. Katya: that one is. Okay, my number one is House of the Rising Sun. Amy: That would be my number one too. Katya: And when I saw Eric again in May, but in Stockholm at Circus when he was playing his like first opening shows, he sung House of the Rising Sun. And I was standing with one one of the other fans, she goes by Kaylin Shea, and she it was her favorite song and she was kind of singing it. Eric was singing it, and the emotion of both of them and like it was it was it was just Amy: wow. Katya: amazing. It was he did Such a beautiful job also performing House of the Rising Sun live. You know, it's just it's one of those things where you just get chills. It was just absolutely so beautiful. The audience really got into it. Amy: Wow. Katya: so that was I think that would be that is my number one cover of his. Amy: That's excellent. I love that so much. Okay, so this is what we're gonna do. We're gonna take all of your top five picks and we're gonna link the individual videos in the description. But of course, we will also include Eric's YouTube page so that you can just go and explore the entire thing if you'd like. So there's that. So my gosh, I love this so much.
