- 0:50Speaker 1: You know, I go back to some of the conversations we had about you saying you wanted to start doing some of this stuff, right, right, right and then to see where you've been able to take it is amazing, bro.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So I'm going to read your bio.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You bio.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know I did, did my research and you know what I'm saying.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Put some I'll put a list on something.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Appreciate that.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, so you.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So you let me know either this is a1, you you approve it, or you know you should have put this in there.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I could take something out.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Let me know what you want.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I got you, my boy.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I got you all right, here we go.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It says shim moss, aka shimavelli, is a multi-hyphenate creator, entrepreneur, community builder, with a journey that spans corporate suites, dj booths, content studios and beyond.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Born and raised in the Bahamas, shin made his way to the US as a student athlete, excelling in basketball and soccer, before earning his BBA in accounting and finance from the University of Arkansas.
- 1:39Speaker 1: After working with Fortune 100 companies, he pivoted to the traditional I'm sorry, he pivoted from the traditional path to pursue his full-time creative passions.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Now he's everywhere DJing packed events, producing content and podcasts, designing apparel, building digital communities, inspiring others who bet on themselves.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Whether he's behind the turntables or the mic, shem's energy is contagious and his story is proof that creativity and discipline can absolutely coexist hey, perfect.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I couldn't say it no better myself.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I couldn't say it no better myself.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That was a great introduction.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I love that.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I love this, this like your grammy, your grammy yeah we go do that I, I love that, bro.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And then when, when you, uh, when you hear something like that because one thing I try to do is give the flowers to the people that's really out here doing the thing and making the thing happen, you know right.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So when you hear, and that's, that's you, I could have went on, bro, like we go back a decade at this point it could have sped.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But when you hear that you know man, business owner, podcaster, dj, of these things, what stands out to you?
- 2:48Speaker 2: I mean, bro, honestly bro, like just really being a father bro, being a father bro, like I think that's that's the biggest motivation for all of this, bro, like I just want obviously better for myself, but obviously, when you want better for yourself, that means it trickles down in your kids, so I want them to experience you know what I mean a good life, so that that that's if, if anyone, anyone else who you know or who can watch this, who have kids, they know, bro, um, that's the ultimate motivation, bro, if you don't need no more motivation than your kids.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So yeah, and then almost threw the paper Because we're not even going on script, bro, like off the cuff.
- 3:29Speaker 1: How did having children change your drive and motivation?
- 3:35Speaker 1: And I ask that because to me you were already that.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You were already driven, you were already determined.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We used to hoop.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Shout out to the.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Hyper at the University of arkansas.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, we first locked in, you know, and you had a a focus about yourself even back then.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And so talk about how having children just amplified that, bro, because I'm curious um, like I said, bro, I think having children and just knowing that, bro, um know they, they, they asked to be here, bro.
- 4:05Speaker 2: So I feel like, I see it, that can be your biggest responsibility in life period.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, and I'm a man who likes to try to take care of his responsibilities and then do it to the best of my abilities, bro, again, I want the best of my kids, bro.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I was raised, you know, in a great family, but my mom, my dad, took great care of me, bro, and I think that ultimately helped me to be where I'm at today.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Um, uh, you know, finishing college, um being, you know like, you know yourself being good at sports, um, all that, bro, all that, all that comes from good parenting, bro.
- 4:37Speaker 2: So I feel like, um, once you got that foundation as a parent, and giving that, you know, giving that guidance, uh, to your kids from an early age, bro, I think that helps to propel them to be great human beings, um, in the long run man shout out to my niece and nephew.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Man shout out, you know shout out there, bro, shout out jp man, let's go man let's go bro.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Uh question for you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Uh, no, when I said niece and nephew, I was talking about your kids.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Oh, my bad.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Come on, bro too.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Come on, bro, I'm tripping, I'm tripping nephew, I was talking about your kids.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Oh my bad.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Come on, bro, I'm tripping bro, I'm tripping man like him bro like him.
- 5:10Speaker 2: My bad, my bad.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Shout out, shout out.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Savannah, shallow and shem, bro, yeah yeah, uh, man, bro, I don't even know where we begin.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Bro, you, let's talk a little bit about your background and your upbringing.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You from the Bahamas, immersed in the culture, immersed in sports, you know.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And then you go from there, you move to the US, brand new, beginning like let's, let's, we could go back as far as you want to go, as specific as you want to go, but you know where?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Where'd you get your start in in life?
- 5:43Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying to to where we are now um.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So, yeah, bro, uh, at an early age dog like I, you know, in the bahamas it is is very, you know, competitive bro, like you grow up on the island where, like everyone, trying to be the best of what they could be the best at um, but if you hear a story from any bahamian bro, initially all us start like in the track and field world, bro.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So I was always, uh, um, you know, a runner, so an athlete in track at first, and then, um, I think when I was like five or six, uh, soccer got introduced to me bro, um, and from from soccer, like I was, you know, my, my uncle.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Like fun fact, I have an uncle who actually played at uh harding university bro, um, yeah, up in uh I think, it's in conway right harding is running, cersei I think, is it cersei?
- 6:33Speaker 2: okay, well, up in that area.
- 6:34Speaker 2: No, you could be right, you could, I don't know.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Anyway, shout out to harding shout out to harding.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yes, I have an uncle who, like you know, he was the first, I think, in the family really to like go off to school and, you know, play college sports and all that stuff.
- 6:49Speaker 2: So I remember being at my grandmother's house back home in the Bahamas and like seeing all his trophies and all his accomplishments and I used to be like man, like at a young age, like bro, like you know, like he used to be, he used to be the man bro, like I used to see my grandmother like proud of him, and you know he was off to school.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So I was like, yeah, this, this is a good thing bro.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like seeing all this and getting exposed to all this at an early age, um, and then, you know, it kind of inspired me to kind of want to push in that direction, to take sports a little bit more serious.
- 7:20Speaker 2: So, again, um started with soccer and and I was always like, uh, I guess you'd say kind of like a natural of basketball bro, um, because again, I had family members who played basketball all the time.
- 7:33Speaker 2: But soccer was one of those things that, um, I think it kind of like pushed that discipline early on because I had a coach.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Uh, shout out to mr minns's.
- 7:43Speaker 2: He was always like, he was like my second father bro, you know what I mean.
- 7:49Speaker 2: He took the duties, you know, picking us up on weekends, going to practice, coming from practice, and it was like, like I said, it was clockwork bro Every Saturday.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You know that, hey, you got practice to me doing this.
- 8:02Speaker 2: So I think that discipline from an early age kind of of propelled me, like you say now to you know, maybe I don't move, I don't jump the gun too much, but you know, playing college sports and all that stuff, it started from early.
- 8:13Speaker 2: So, um, with that bro, um, I don't know if you want me to jump into.
- 8:17Speaker 2: You know, being a, uh, I got you being a member, you know, at a national team at a young age with soccer and stuff like that.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Um, I could go on bro, I feel like every year in high school like I won mvps and like literally every year bro, um being the captain of the teams and uh, the whole nine bro like I was always really, really good at a really decent at sports bro.
- 8:41Speaker 2: So, um, I think that overall helped with all like the discipline and um, the overall just being um, that type of person bro, like just being a good person, of being a team player, you know I mean yeah, bro, that's.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That's two things.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It's interesting that you said it about yourself, because those are two things that I would associate with you as a friend, as a brother.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Is is discipline.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You know what I mean, and I think you are the ultimate team player, bro, appreciate that bro.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Nah, I mean from a sports standpoint, to the point where, if you cook a meal, you're going to hit the team Right, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Hey.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I got the jerk chicken, I got the curd.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm on the way.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the way, yeah yeah, go all the ways, bro.
- 9:21Speaker 2: You know I try to look out, bro, I always try to look out, dog, like that's, that's, you know, that's, I guess that's, um, besides being, you know, from the bahamas that's the island in me period bro, like that's, that's how we are growing up.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Everyone is kind of like family oriented and hospitality always.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You know, hospitality is a thing back home, but I saw number one thing tourism is the number one industry in the bahamas.
- 9:41Speaker 2: So we always welcoming people and you know that's, that's big.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I'm sure you met, obviously, other behemians here, you know, I mean, and and I'm pretty sure they got similar vibes, bro, like we be people's person, people speak, yeah, people's persons, bro, so we all shout out, shout out the boys, bro, shout out the boys, for sure, bro, yeah man, that's dope man.
- 10:04Speaker 1: How, how important is discipline in, in what you do now, when you think about, you know, like you said, sports, then that carried over into collegiate sports, which carried over into the business and corporate world, which carried over into your creative.
- 10:16Speaker 1: You know disciplines, bro.
- 10:17Speaker 1: You do everything from produce to podcast, to dj, to you know what I'm saying make your own music and the, and now content creation.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The list goes on and on.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Man, how important is discipline as a through line through all of that?
- 10:30Speaker 2: I think is very important, bro, um, I think, um, the biggest thing is, you know, once you put your mind to it, you could do it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So I feel like, um, with me having, like you say, wearing so much hats and trying to put myself in these positions to to do things in different avenues, I feel like it's important to make sure that you have your ducks in a row.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So one I think you know, obviously, like for me, I think everyone tries to base things on money.
- 10:59Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think if you base things on money, it ain't ain't gonna be, it ain't gonna be as easy to to be disciplined about it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: That's my opinion, you know.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I mean, um, I'm passionate about everything you just said, bro, I'm a dj, I love djing, bro, so that's passion.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Though if you passionate about something, bro, I feel like the discipline kind of falls right in line.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You know what I mean, again, at an early age, bro, like it was instilled in me that when you practice, you get better and it literally paid off.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Bro, like everyone from the Bahamas and get the opportunity to come overseas and play sports.
- 11:32Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Everyone will get the opportunity, bro, get scholarships, and you know.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So again at a young age you've got to realize, hey, if, if this discipline, if this is something that you want, then you got to work for it.
- 11:45Speaker 2: So I feel like you know again, trickling down into my in my later years as an adulthood now, djing content creation, being a business owner with the humble and um, you know, dj services and all that stuff like I think it's just you know something that you know my passion drives my discipline.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So that's, that's we can go with.
- 12:02Speaker 1: My passion drives my discipline, yeah, yeah I know for those of y'all I don't know, whenever I tap the table in in dj culture they got sounds queued up so like just to be a horn, you know.
- 12:17Speaker 2: So it's like it's a cue for for a nice line on nice bar.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah yeah, nice, I'm gonna hit the horn.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I just got to be with it, right, right, right, I didn't think about it but the people that edit, they're going to catch on man.
- 12:28Speaker 2: They, you know they sharp.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Man, bro, let's talk content, bro.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Like your content creator journey.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Did you see yourself as you do everything from podcasts to the social media clips that go viral to you know, streaming to vlogging, whatever the case may be?
- 12:51Speaker 1: Reaction, bro, like you do it all you kind of, and so let's talk about that.
- 12:56Speaker 1: You know, where did your creative journey begin?
- 12:58Speaker 1: Were you seeing someone that inspired you?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Did you always want to be a creator?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Let's talk about the the beginning of it so, yeah, bro, I, I always had a passion for like bro, even like as I'm like young as well, bro, um, like you know me, bro, you know, bro, I like to crack jokes.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I like to, you know, just be, you know, just just have fun and and good fun, good clean fun, bro.
- 13:20Speaker 2: So, um, I feel like the content creation part portion came about when, like I started to realize, like you know, I started to see people and get get inspired.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Um, I'd say, like you know, younger youtubers, um, let's say, who, like you know, I wouldn't say I'm a cause, not them now because they do anything on a larger scale, but if let me, let me see if I could think of someone from way back who kind of inspired me bro, um, they're not foosy tube doing like pranks in roman artwood, those guys doing pranks like way back bro, like you know what I mean on the in the youtube space.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So I always felt like bro, like um, in the bahamas we really don't have much people doing stuff like that.
- 13:59Speaker 2: So I always thought it'd be cool to, you know, hand at it and see how I you know, obviously I don't do pranks and whatnot, but the whole idea of just creating content and letting people see your creative juices flow and getting into all that.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I just always thought it was cool with folks kind of similar to this, bro, I just like, I love to highlight, um, positivity, bro, and I love, to, you know, see people like, like, shine the light on people who are actually doing positive stuff, bro, but so much negativity in the media nowadays.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Like, bro, um, I think it's important, um, to use your platform as best as you could to, you know, highlight good, you know I'm saying um, and I also feel, like you know, with the, with the shorts, cupping up the shorts, um, I love doing that, simply because it's it's a way to for me to honestly to practice.
- 14:52Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I love to try to to to see things visually and if, if you know, obviously maybe me I have a link to my shorts and stuff after this so people can kind of see what we're talking about.
- 15:01Speaker 2: But, um, I love when you know someone mentioned something and you're able to kind of tie it into like a picture or a video so they could see like, oh, that's what he was talking about, like you know.
- 15:12Speaker 2: So I love that.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I love the type of thinking and being thoughtful and being creative at the same time, and you know, love this type of stuff, bro.
- 15:19Speaker 2: So, um end goal for me, bro, with all this content stuff bro.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Um, again, it ain't about the money, but eventually, if money does come with it, bro, my whole thing is being um a philanthropist bro.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I love to give back, bro, I love to give.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So it ain't and all this it ain't about me.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It's not about me, bro, it's about giving back and seeing who I could help along the way.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So that's the biggest thing for me bro, I think that's dope and I can vouch.
- 15:47Speaker 1: It's cool because I remember conversations we had two, three years ago, if not more, when you were like man, I want to do some content, to put something positive out there.
- 15:57Speaker 1: The same thing that you just said on camera in front of the world is what you told me in private a while ago, and that's another through line in your content.
- 16:09Speaker 1: And what you do, I think, is that positive vibe.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, for sure, and you're intentional about that.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Talk about what it looks like to show up in this space of content when you can get online and see some of everything.
- 16:23Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Some stuff is negative, negative, some stuff is just for entertainment.
- 16:27Speaker 1: How important is it for you to make sure that you have a message of positivity behind what you do?
- 16:34Speaker 2: well for me, bro, I feel like, um, again, it's important to filter in that that positive energy, bro, um, I, I really believe in and, and you know, giving all positive energy and receiving positive energy.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know, I mean, like, you know, you know how it is, bro, if you, if you're around people and you don't feel the energy and you feel the vibes, it's like, bro, like exactly, yeah, exactly, I'm out of here, bro, so I, I personally, like positive energy and positive people, so I always try to do my best to to to give the same thing, bro, again, with the content, um, I probably go on a little bit off script, but but, um, I wouldn't, I don't, like, I didn't want to kind of box myself in.
- 17:10Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Like, uh, obviously, I do sports, I react to music videos, I do, like you said, I do interviews, I do the shorts, I do, bro, whatever, bro, whatever I'm feeling, honestly, bro, that's why the, that's why the channel's name is Shama Valley.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Bro, just me, I'm saying whatever I'm I'm feeling and I feel like it could bring some sort of energy, good, positive energy, to someone, or whatever the case may be.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I'm down to do it, you know I'm saying, but so I think that's very important, bro, not boxing yourself and I know everyone always tries to say fine, and he's la, la, la, la la.
- 17:41Speaker 2: But, um, I think in today's age, where you can box yourself in, bro, so much opportunities out there to, you know, I mean, tap into so much different things, like I think it's just better to try to to be more widespread and try to, you know, have a, you know, an avenue where you could tap into different stuff.
- 17:57Speaker 2: So, but yeah, bro, definitely positive energy is the thing, bro.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I always like to spread positive energy and receive positive energy.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So I like to my, I like my content to reflect that as well yeah, it makes sense.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You sense.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You don't like to be boxed in, bro.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Even in the bio it says a creator, entrepreneur, community builder, father, move move Right, right, right, yeah, man Right bro.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Another conversation that sticks out to me that me and you had again years ago, when you were thinking about spawning up your creator journey, was a thumbnail.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I remember you were showing me a video and you were like you see, look at these thumbnails, bro, like and us you know me working with podcastvideoscom.
- 18:36Speaker 1: We are like scientists when it comes to this stuff.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I mean, we breaking it down and we spending hours and days and weeks and months on research and man, should I put this three-letter word right here?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Should I put it right here?
- 18:50Speaker 1: Should I move it down?
- 18:51Speaker 1: There's the face.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And so there's a level of surgery that we specialize in being, you know.
- 18:58Speaker 1: But you bring that to the table as well because you are thoughtful about that type of thing, and so talk about that.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Talk about the point at which you want to make videos and you just pick up a camera to the point that you realize like, oh man, there's so much more to this than just me recording my friend, you know.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Talk about that If there was a moment, or if you know, just at this point in your journey where you like man, I didn't know this, but just at this point in your journey, where you like, man, I didn't know this, but, um, right, yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 2: So, bro, I feel like you know me doing my research before I do almost anything, bro, um, is is a part of that.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Bro.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I feel like, um, you know, again, you want to be great at something or good at something.
- 19:39Speaker 2: You got to do your research, you got to do practice, you got to practice, you know.
- 19:42Speaker 2: So, um, you know I'm at, uh, I just started, really, you know, as you know, bro, started really pushing my YouTube and my content, like a year ago, bro, and I'm at 12,000 subscribers, bro.
- 19:52Speaker 2: You know what I mean 20,000 followers on Facebook.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Any ads, no ads, bro.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Just grind, just grind, bro, real talk, you know what I mean.
- 20:03Speaker 2: So, Wow, so uh yeah, bro, I feel like you know, um, all that, all that attention to detail is very important because, um, I always try to put myself in the viewer's shoes right and how I like to receive things and and and look at things Right.
- 20:21Speaker 2: So, um, just yesterday, bro, literally just yesterday, on my lunch break, bro, you know what I mean I had, um my boy, my, you know what I mean.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I had, um my boy, my boy else, who will charge him, like my graphic design and stuff like that.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Um, you know, we was here just working on trying to get some thumbnails.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I just dropped some videos today.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Actually, if you're all seeing, this is july 29th, you know what I mean.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I just dropped a few videos today, so, like four videos today, but, um, I'm working on getting um an interview done.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I have it done, but getting edited right now.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Um, and I'm working on a thumbnail for that, where I kind of wanted to be kind of like, you know, like, hopefully I'd probably be able to send it to you by the time this is out, but and you pop it up or whatever.
- 21:02Speaker 2: You know, I mean, but it's uh, it's a, it's something that I have in my mind that I wanted him to bring the light and and he obviously better he a little better than me, so I wanted to kind of go with him.
- 21:10Speaker 2: But, like you said, it's attention to detail, bro.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So when you look at the thumbnail you can kind of be like, ooh, like you know, it's the packaging, like I want to make sure that this is something that when people see this like, they're going to be excited.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Like you got to build like curiosity and people.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I'm sure this, these words and and verbs you all use at podcast videos every day.
- 21:30Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 21:31Speaker 2: So I try my best to make sure I put, like um that that you know, like you told, like less that sauce on, you know, my thumbnails to make sure that people, to make sure people want to, you know, click on the videos, bro.
- 21:44Speaker 2: So I think it's very important to have that attention to detail and have that thumbnail and but whatever, however, you're packaging yourself, bro, whether it be, you know, through um, uh, I guess, like voiceovers, whatever, whatever the case may be, you know, for like, uh, instagram reels, whatever it is, it's important to make sure you got that eye catching or that um, air catching, whatever you know, to make sure that people kind of you know, get attracted to videos yeah man, when did you go from just making videos, having a good time with it, to realizing like oh snap, I could have something here um, bro, honestly, bro, like I feel like, once I dropped my first like, uh, like reaction video, bro, and the reception I got, that's literally still, uh, my very first video is still the biggest video on my channel to date, like view wise.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 22:36Speaker 2: So, like, after I got that first, like kind of like whoa, people really mastered me, like on this level to where, like you know, like bro, I got like probably like three or four hundred subscribers the first first two weeks or so, bro, and that's exactly so.
- 22:53Speaker 2: That's huge for, like you know, an up-and-coming creator, bro, like, when you see you got, because this, this, this is how I think of it, right, like you know you, bro, like I said, we always have conversations off cam and all that stuff.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Bro, like that's 400 people, bro, like, know what I mean when you think about it.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Like that you're performing, you are, you're, you know, big time rap and all that you know, bro, 400 people you could perform for is like that's huge bro, for for a smaller create, a smaller rapper, you know what I mean.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So, like, when I thought about it in that, in that scheme of things, I'm like, bro, it's 400 people who are actually really locked in and willing to press a video of mine and view it, like you know what I mean.
- 23:28Speaker 2: So after that first day, I was sold, bro, I was sold.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, this is something I could definitely do.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And again, people always think about the money aspect of things.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Bro, if you think about the money aspect of things, like, I feel like that's going to deter people, bro, you know what I'm saying.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Like I've invested time, time, effort and money into this my own money.
- 23:48Speaker 2: You know what I mean trying to get nicer cameras, nicer lights.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Now maybe if you look in the back, you see my little stuff in the back, the little banners, little things that I like, um.
- 23:56Speaker 2: So just, you know, it ain't about the money, bros, it got again.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Your passion should drive your discipline, bro.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So all that ties into you know why I'm doing'm doing.
- 24:07Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about that first viral moment.
- 24:09Speaker 1: At this point, we switching gears.
- 24:11Speaker 1: We finna give some keys to the streets out there because there's some people that want to do what Shima Belly is doing.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It's some people that'll give it all right now to get 400 subscribers like that, 400 followers like that.
- 24:25Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And so, right now, we finna give some keys to the streets and, when it's all said and done, either they gonna use them or they not, you know.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But so before that talk about, have you had a moment that you that you will consider a viral moment?
- 24:41Speaker 2: In terms of what you think like my own personal videos or short what?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, because you do it all.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I would say anything either either your own, because your shorts is interesting, you know, you got the branded short and then you got the text.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's a certain way.
- 24:59Speaker 1: And so even your shorts a lot of times it's repurposed content, but you found a way to take that repurposed content and make it your own.
- 25:06Speaker 1: That's hard to do.
- 25:07Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 25:08Speaker 1: I do social media for podcast videos and I literally brought you up to my team one day because I was like this is a person who's doing it the right way.
- 25:16Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So when I say viral moment, I mean it could be a short that you clipped up that got a hundred thousand, five hundred thousand views.
- 25:23Speaker 1: It could be from your own personal stuff that went crazy like all right, I got you.
- 25:27Speaker 2: So I have, like, I think this it was this short that I clipped up um, with uh, it was paul pears talking, uh, telling the story by kevin garnett.
- 25:36Speaker 2: You might have seen it right and I think it overall platform, because I post my stuff on instagram, youtube and I post it on facebook as well.
- 25:43Speaker 2: So I think, combined, that show probably got like five or six million views behind it.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah, um, but, and in it that's still in the biggest one, I think I have a jordan one that did bigger than it.
- 25:53Speaker 2: But I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm more specific with that one because that particular clip, remember, you said like, uh, it's specific to like my editing style, bro.
- 26:03Speaker 2: So, like you know, I mean, I have like the the colorful stuff going and I try to do my own little thing on and try to make it like, like you say, it's repurposed, but I try to make it my own.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So people kind of I think people kind of attracted to my page because they see like I have a certain style in editing Right.
- 26:17Speaker 2: So why bring that one up again?
- 26:19Speaker 2: Is because, bro, I went on TikTok and people like, people literally like my friends, not knowing some of my friends, not knowing that I even make content.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Bro, send me this, sending me, sending me like like videos, right, not, it ain't my my video, like uh to the t or whatever, right, but the actual editing, like they say, like someone would use my audio that I chopped up, like I I cut and they'll put their own like uh pictures and stuff behind it.
- 26:47Speaker 2: But I could hear, like, if you listen to all my shorts, at the end I always have like a, an effect at the end to, like you know, show that it's ending and like in like dramatic fashion, right?
- 26:59Speaker 2: So that's how I always usually know it as mine, right?
- 27:01Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 27:02Speaker 2: And literally, bro, I I saw like like four or five different shorts or reels that had my edit, my edit, like legit, my edit.
- 27:10Speaker 2: So I'm like, wow, if my, that means if someone could send me back something that I did not knowing that it's me.
- 27:17Speaker 2: That means that, bro, I must be doing something.
- 27:19Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Something, right, bro?
- 27:21Speaker 2: So that was crazy to me, bro, seeing like wow, like, bro, you know, you, literally sometimes you're sitting on the couch doing this or in your bed doing this and it's reaching the masses like that, bro.
- 27:33Speaker 2: So that's that kind of blew my mind, bro, and again, that kind of just kept me motivated, like, bro, if you, if you doing stuff like this and hitting the masses, bro, it's something to this, bro, you should keep it up yeah, man, what would you say to that creator out there that wants to get started but is afraid to put themselves out there, that's afraid to read the comment section that don't, that don't got the right camera to get started.
- 27:58Speaker 1: You know what would you say to that person that's watching this?
- 28:00Speaker 2: Right, so I've been.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I've been in that same position, bro, if, like, if you look at my social blade, bro, you can see that I created my page from 2017, bro.
- 28:09Speaker 2: You see what I'm saying?
- 28:10Speaker 2: 2017, bro, and I just started really posting last year.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So it took me seven years to really obviously, you know, life happens.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I was still in school, you know what I mean, I'm a kid, like all that, et cetera, et cetera.
- 28:29Speaker 2: But the point is that I had a vision back then that I didn't really start until now because, you know, you want to kind of build that again.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Same.
- 28:32Speaker 2: All excuses in the world, bro.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Oh, I need a better camera, I need this, I need that, um, but it was one day, bro, I was just, I think I I was actually talking to one of my coworkers, like one of my last real corporate jobs, as you know, like you know what I mean.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Man, he was kind of like telling me about a situation that he was working on with, like any, like airbnb's.
- 28:49Speaker 2: It was like around christmas time, bro, you know, I mean, and he's at, you know, he's at, like his rollout, he's, you know, just in the commerce room talking, and he was just saying, bro, he working on this airbnb for the new year and he doing this and he's just saying this one is new year's resolutions, la, la, la, la la.
- 29:05Speaker 2: And it kind of sparked in my head, like I'm like, bro, I've been saying I'm gonna push this youtube thing for a minute.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Bro, I already had a camera, you know.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I mean, I bought the camera a while back, you know what I mean.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Um, I had lights, I had, I had everything, but I just never started and I told myself, bro, it's do or die for me, bro, I gotta.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I know that that is some things.
- 29:26Speaker 2: That day I want to kind of get off my chest and want to start, you know, and I feel like it would be dope to just try to bring it to light.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And, bro, I just got to a point.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Like, bro, I wasn't, I wasn't really worried about who said what and what people had to say, bro, and that, that.
- 29:41Speaker 2: That I saw it.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Like you said, that's always, uh, on, on, on people conscious, people's conscious, bro, like you know, kind of worried about people and say, and how people gonna be, if people gonna be receptive to that content, etc.
- 29:50Speaker 2: But I'm here to say, bro, you gotta, you gotta do it for you, bro, I mean, when you do it for you and you understand, hey, bro, I'm just doing it to make sure, like I kind of tick off some stuff off the off the bucket list and, bro, whoever gonna enjoy it and appreciate it, they will, bro, like the real, the real.
- 30:07Speaker 2: A real recognizes real, bro, that's the line you know I mean.
- 30:10Speaker 1: So, yeah, exactly so if, if people you know gonna gravitate to you didn't gravitate to you, bro, if people don't, they don't, so just leave it at that, bro how do you get over either either confidence, um, or finding your voice?
- 30:26Speaker 1: Speak, speak to that a little bit.
- 30:27Speaker 1: How do you?
- 30:27Speaker 1: Because I know when you first started, I'm sure you've grown and evolved and changed so much, and so talk a little bit about that, what it looks like to be.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Just put yourself out there.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Like you said, whoever mess with it is going to mess with it.
- 30:38Speaker 1: It's probably going to be some people that come along that don't rock with it, but everything ain't for everybody about that in your own personal experience, yeah, bro.
- 30:49Speaker 2: So I mean again, like, um, you know, you have your critics, you're gonna have people who, again, they're gonna, they ain't gonna like your stuff, like you know.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But at the same time, you gotta realize too, bro, you got a goal, you got agenda, bro.
- 30:57Speaker 2: So if you looking at it from the perspective of you doing this to impress others, or you know what I mean, um, make ways for other people to criticize, like you won't, you're not gonna make it far, bro.
- 31:10Speaker 2: So I'm saying again, you gotta understand who you're doing it for.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Again, I told you in the beginning, bro, it's for my kids, bro, my kids motivate me to do stuff like this.
- 31:16Speaker 2: So no one can deter me from that.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You know, I'm saying like my motivation, like I say, is building, is building to something bigger than I thought.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Honestly, bro, you know I'm saying like I didn't expect to be at 12 000 subscribers right now, in a year.
- 31:32Speaker 2: You know I'm saying like, again, you're looking at it as like, like in a concert setting or like in a, you know, in a big arena setting, bro, 12 000 people is a lot of people, bro, who don't like, you know, obviously probably some of my friends, you yourself subscribe to me and whatnot, bro, but I don't have that much.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I don't have 12 000 friends.
- 31:50Speaker 2: You see what I'm saying, like you know.
- 31:51Speaker 2: So it's like, bro, when you, when you look at the layout, you got 12 000 people who willing to click and like in whatever view and, you know, say a comment on your post, like bro, you got to start to think like, bro, you gotta be doing something right, bro?
- 32:04Speaker 2: You see what I'm saying.
- 32:06Speaker 2: So, again, building that confidence through, just you know, messing with the people who actually mess with the content, and not worrying.
- 32:12Speaker 2: But again, we going back to all these stuff, I already said, bro, positive energy, you know, I mean I, I don't have time for negative energy, bro, like.
- 32:20Speaker 2: So you being positive, that means you obviously liking the content, you, you know, you appreciating the post, you liking, you, sharing, you, viewing whatever.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Like you know I'm saying, if you got negative stuff to say, cool.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Like I can't control what no one else says, but what I can do is keep on doing what I'm doing for the positive people who are here and want to view the content and watch the content.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yeah, bro.
- 32:39Speaker 1: So let's talk about your.
- 32:41Speaker 1: These are Shima Belly's five creator commandments.
- 32:44Speaker 1: If you, starting from the mud, literally today is like that day that you got to where you said it's do or die, if that person listening to this is at that point where it's like it's do or die, what are the five things?
- 32:57Speaker 1: You know and it could be, it could be three.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know whatever you got, but let's aim for five.
- 33:02Speaker 1: What are the five things you would say to that person?
- 33:05Speaker 1: You must do this or you know you must not do this.
- 33:09Speaker 1: What's them?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Five creator commandments I got you.
- 33:12Speaker 2: First I'd say, bro um, find your passion.
- 33:16Speaker 2: So that's one find your passion.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Find your passion about.
- 33:19Speaker 2: If you like sports, you know, do sports.
- 33:21Speaker 2: If you like music, do music, whatever it is, just find your passion.
- 33:25Speaker 2: The second thing I'd say is be disciplined about it, bro um, you know, like, you know I try my best, like obviously you watch my content and stuff like that I try my best to make sure that I'm dropping at a particular time.
- 33:38Speaker 2: So for me it's like 11.
- 33:39Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 33:40Speaker 2: That's around the time when people are coming.
- 33:42Speaker 2: You know lunch breaks and you know I feel like it's a good time in general just to drop content.
- 33:48Speaker 2: You know what I mean good time in general just to drop content.
- 33:49Speaker 2: You know I mean always there read some stuff as well, but, um, that's what been working for me.
- 33:51Speaker 2: You know, I mean trying to trying to be disciplined about when you drop and how you drop.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Um, three, I would say, bro, uh, definitely, uh, don't be scared to put yourself out there.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Bro, you see I'm saying you got people again who gonna message your people away, but you know, yeah, yeah, your, your energy and your vibe should be connected with the people.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Who ain't.
- 34:08Speaker 2: But you know, yeah, your, your energy and your vibe should be connected with the people who actually rooted for you to win.
- 34:13Speaker 2: You know I'm saying so.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Connect with the people who connect with you.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'd say that's three, um, four, I'd say um.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Continue to be consistent, bro.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Once you get in the game, be consistent with it, bro.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Like you, you know, I'd say I try my best to post something every day.
- 34:29Speaker 2: You know I'm saying whether it's uh.
- 34:29Speaker 2: You know I'd say I try my best to post something every day.
- 34:30Speaker 2: You see I'm saying whether is uh.
- 34:32Speaker 2: You know I do like motivational posts as well.
- 34:33Speaker 2: So whether it's a motivational post, a nostalgic picture, a short, a long form, something, and then some days you just get all of them one day.
- 34:42Speaker 2: You know you get everything in one day, you know I mean, but for sure, every single day I try to post at least one of those things I just mentioned, just so people can know that, bro, he on his game, he trying to be consistent, so consistency.
- 34:55Speaker 2: And then I'd say five, just you know, be about what you say you're going to do, bro.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Be about it.
- 35:02Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Like, don't just hop in and say, well, I'm going to try this.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Like, bro, if you confident about doing something, bro, do it.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Don't just say it, do it.
- 35:13Speaker 2: You know I'm gonna talk about it.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Be about it, bro.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Like, just do it, like it ain't.
- 35:17Speaker 2: No, you know, don't have no regrets when you post something.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Like, you know what I mean.
- 35:22Speaker 2: You might not see the views that you want to see the first time, but, bro, I promise you bro, I promise you, bro, the consistency.
- 35:29Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Like it's a real thing, bro.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I know it sound cliche, but it's a real thing, bro.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Like, literally, bro, I have videos on my page right now.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I've only got like 200 views, but then I have a video.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I have videos on my page that hit a million, bro, you see what I'm saying.
- 35:45Speaker 2: So it's like, bro, don't get discouraged when you see I only got 100 views.
- 35:49Speaker 2: A lot of people.
- 35:50Speaker 2: They get discouraged the first 2-3 months of doing this YouTube stuff.
- 35:53Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Again, passion helps with the.
- 35:57Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It helps with the consistency and all that.
- 36:03Speaker 2: So you just got to continue to go and not worry about what people think and views and all that different stuff.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Keep going, yeah, man.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Shit Before we get out of here rapid fire.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Would you rather have a video go viral a million views, or would you rather DJ a party with 5,000 people?
- 36:31Speaker 1: Dj a party with 5 000 people?
- 36:33Speaker 1: Dj party, 5 000 people.
- 36:35Speaker 2: you need to think about that like easy, oh yeah yeah, because, because I look at it in the, in the light, as you know, um people you know that's, that's that's connection with actual people.
- 36:46Speaker 1: You know, I mean like you know, I mean so yeah who got the better food arkansas, new york or the bahamas?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Or the bahamas put us in order oh, in order.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Okay, bahamas number one 100 percent.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Uh shoots, ah, boy, arkansas.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I'd say arkansas number two, bro, because people, people's people, sleep on on on arkansas like soul food and barbecue food, bro.
- 37:07Speaker 2: They sleep like I feel like this this state has.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I'd say Arkansas number two, bro, because people, people sleep on on Arkansas like soul food and barbecue food, bro.
- 37:13Speaker 2: They sleep like I feel like this, this state as a whole.
- 37:15Speaker 2: We just slept on.
- 37:16Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I'm a, I'm a, I'm a Arkansan myself, now you know.
- 37:20Speaker 2: So I think we just slept on as a whole in terms of food, anything bro, sports food, music, everything bro.
- 37:27Speaker 2: So I Music everything bro.
- 37:28Speaker 2: So you know what I mean, bro, I'm an Arkansas.
- 37:29Speaker 2: So, yeah, I say Bahamas, arkansas and New York.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Let's go baby Basketball.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Who is the team to look out for this year?
- 37:38Speaker 2: The team to look out for, besides my Lakers, I would honestly probably say the Clippers bro, the across town rivals, bro.
- 37:49Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 37:50Speaker 2: They just got Chris Paul and they just got Bradley Beal.
- 37:53Speaker 2: So, bro, they're going to be, if they healthy, bro, like Kawhi Leonard, James Harden.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Chris Paul, Bradley Beal, bro.
- 38:02Speaker 2: And then they got John Collins III as well, bro.
- 38:05Speaker 2: So they have a squad and they have a nice bench too, bro.
- 38:15Speaker 1: I think Brooke Lopez went there as well too, so they they, bro, they, if they healthy, they gonna be scary.
- 38:17Speaker 2: They could be some good ball come out of there.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you would see the reactions on the channel too, so lock in and tune in.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, plug, plug, whatever.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Where can we follow you?
- 38:22Speaker 1: Where can people keep up with you, um, and anything that we got to be looking forward to from you.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, but everything is at Shema Veli, bro.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Everything is at Shema Veli Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, all that good stuff, bro.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Like everything's Shema Veli.
- 38:38Speaker 2: One word.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Love it, bro, Love it man.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Look, we appreciate your time, man.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You gave us so many gems.
