- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter eighteen. Moreover, the word of the Lord said unto me,
- 0:06Speaker 1: take thee a great roll and write in it with
- 0:08Speaker 1: a man's pen concerning Maher shall al Hashbas. And I
- 0:12Speaker 1: took unto me faithful witnesses to record Uriah the priest
- 0:16Speaker 1: and Zechariah, the son of Jeberkiah. And I went unto
- 0:20Speaker 1: the prophetess, and she conceived embarrassed son, and said the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Lord to me, call his name Maher shallal Hashbas. For behold,
- 0:29Speaker 1: the child shall not have knowledge to cry my father
- 0:32Speaker 1: and my mother before the riches of Damascus, and the
- 0:35Speaker 1: spoil of Sumeria shall be taken away before the King
- 0:38Speaker 1: of Assyria. The Lord spake also unto me, saying, forasmuch
- 0:43Speaker 1: as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloh, that go
- 0:46Speaker 1: softly and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son. Now therefore behold,
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river,
- 0:55Speaker 1: strong and many, even the King of Assyria and all
- 0:58Speaker 1: his glory. And he shall come up over all his
- 1:01Speaker 1: channels and go over all his banks, and he shall
- 1:05Speaker 1: pass through Judah Ye shall overflow and go over He
- 1:09Speaker 1: shall reach even to the neck and the stretching out
- 1:12Speaker 1: of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land,
- 1:14Speaker 1: O Emmanuel, Associate yourselves, o ye people, and ye shall
- 1:19Speaker 1: be broken in pieces, and give ear all ye of
- 1:22Speaker 1: far countries. Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. Take
- 1:31Speaker 1: counsel together, and it shall come to nought. Speak the word,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and it shall not stand. For God is with us.
- 1:39Speaker 1: For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and instructed me that I should not walk in the
- 1:44Speaker 1: way of this people, saying, say ye not a confederacy.
- 1:48Speaker 1: To all to whom this people shall say a confederacy.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Lord of hosts himself, and let him be your fear,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and let him be your dread. And he shall be
- 2:04Speaker 1: for a sanctuary, but for a stone of stumbling, and
- 2:08Speaker 1: for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel,
- 2:11Speaker 1: for a gin and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And many among them shall stumble and fall, and be broken,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and be snared, and be taken. Bind up the testimony,
- 2:23Speaker 1: seal the law among my disciples, and I will wait
- 2:27Speaker 1: upon the Lord that hideth his face from the house
- 2:29Speaker 1: of Jacob, and I will look for him. Behold, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: and the children whom the Lord hath given me are
- 2:35Speaker 1: for signs and for wonders in Israel, and from the
- 2:38Speaker 1: Lord of Hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion. And when
- 2:43Speaker 1: they shall say, unto you, seek unto them that have
- 2:45Speaker 1: familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter. Should
- 2:49Speaker 1: not a people seek unto their God for the living,
- 2:52Speaker 1: to hear from the dead, to the law and to
- 2:55Speaker 1: the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word,
- 2:58Speaker 1: it is because there is no light in them. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: they shall pass through it hardly, bestead and hungry. And
- 3:05Speaker 1: it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry,
- 3:08Speaker 1: they shall fret themselves and curse their king and their God,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and look upward, and they shall look unto the earth
- 3:15Speaker 1: and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish, and shall
- 3:20Speaker 1: be driven to darkness Chapter nineteen. Nevertheless, the dimness shall
- 3:27Speaker 1: not be such as was in her vexation, when at
- 3:29Speaker 1: first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the
- 3:32Speaker 1: land of Naphtalai, and afterwards did more grievously afflict by
- 3:36Speaker 1: the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan and galilee
- 3:39Speaker 1: of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have
- 3:42Speaker 1: seen a great light. They that dwell in the land
- 3:45Speaker 1: of the shadow of death. Upon them hath the light shined.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Thou hast multiplied the nation and increased the joy. They
- 3:53Speaker 1: joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and
- 3:56Speaker 1: as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. For that
- 4:00Speaker 1: thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the
- 4:02Speaker 1: staff of his shoulder the rod of his oppressor. For
- 4:06Speaker 1: every battle of the warrior is with confused noise and
- 4:10Speaker 1: garments rolled in blood. But this shall be with burning
- 4:13Speaker 1: and fuel of fire. For unto us a child is born,
- 4:18Speaker 1: unto us, a son is given, and the government shall
- 4:21Speaker 1: be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called
- 4:24Speaker 1: Wonderful counselor the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince
- 4:31Speaker 1: of Peace, of the increase of government and peace. There
- 4:34Speaker 1: is no end upon the throne of David and upon
- 4:37Speaker 1: his kingdom to order it and to establish it with
- 4:40Speaker 1: judgment and with justice. From henceforth even forever, the zeal
- 4:44Speaker 1: of the Lord of Hosts will perform this. The Lord
- 4:47Speaker 1: sent his word unto Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And all the people shall know, even Ephrium and all
- 4:54Speaker 1: the inhabitants of Samaria, that say, in the pride and
- 4:57Speaker 1: stoutness of heart, the bricks are fought and down, but
- 5:00Speaker 1: we will build with hewn stones. The sycamores are cut down,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but we will change them into cedars. Therefore the Lord
- 5:08Speaker 1: shall set up the adversaries of Resin against him and
- 5:11Speaker 1: join his enemies together, the Syrians before and the Philistines behind.
- 5:16Speaker 1: They shall not devour Israel with open mouth. For all
- 5:19Speaker 1: this his anger is not turned away, but his hand
- 5:22Speaker 1: is stretched out still. For the people turneth not unto
- 5:26Speaker 1: him that smiteth them. Neither do they seek Lord of hosts.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Therefore will the Lord cut off from Israel head and
- 5:33Speaker 1: tail branch, and rush in one day the ancient He
- 5:38Speaker 1: is the head, and the prophet that teacheth lies he
- 5:41Speaker 1: is the tale. For the leaders of this people cause
- 5:44Speaker 1: them to err, and they that are lad of them
- 5:46Speaker 1: are destroyed. Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in
- 5:50Speaker 1: their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless
- 5:54Speaker 1: or widows. For every one of them is a hypocrite
- 5:57Speaker 1: and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this,
- 6:01Speaker 1: his anger is not turned away, but his hand is
- 6:04Speaker 1: stretched out still. For wickedness burneth is the fire. It
- 6:08Speaker 1: shall devour the briars and thorns, and shall kindle in
- 6:11Speaker 1: the thickets of the forests. And they shall mount up
- 6:14Speaker 1: like the lifting up of smoke. Through the wrath of
- 6:17Speaker 1: the Lord of hosts. Is the land darkened, and the
- 6:20Speaker 1: people shall be as the fuel of the fire. No
- 6:23Speaker 1: man shall spare his brother, and he shall snatch on
- 6:26Speaker 1: the right hand and be hungry, and he shall eat
- 6:29Speaker 1: on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied.
- 6:32Speaker 1: They shall eat every man the flesh of his own
- 6:35Speaker 1: arm Menessea Ephrim and Ephrium Manasse. They together shall be
- 6:41Speaker 1: against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but his hand is stretched out still. Chapter twenty. Woe
- 6:51Speaker 1: unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that right grievousness.
- 6:55Speaker 1: When they have prescribed to turn away the needy from judgment,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and to take away the right from the poor of
- 7:01Speaker 1: my people, that widows may be their prey, and that
- 7:04Speaker 1: they may rob the fatherless. And what will ye do
- 7:08Speaker 1: in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which
- 7:11Speaker 1: shall come from far, to whom will ye flee for help?
- 7:14Speaker 1: And where will ye leave your glory without me? They
- 7:18Speaker 1: shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall
- 7:21Speaker 1: under the slain. For all this, his anger is not
- 7:24Speaker 1: turned away, but his hand is stretched out still, o Assyrian.
- 7:29Speaker 1: The rod of mine anger and the staff in their
- 7:32Speaker 1: hand is their indignation. I will send him against a
- 7:36Speaker 1: hypocritical nation and against the people of my wrath. While
- 7:39Speaker 1: I give him a charge to take the spoil, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: to take the prey, and to tread them down like
- 7:44Speaker 1: the mire of the streets. Howbeit he meaneth not so,
- 7:48Speaker 1: neither doth his heart think so. But in his heart
- 7:52Speaker 1: it is to destroy and cut off nations, not a few.
- 7:55Speaker 1: For he Saith are not my princes altogether. Kings is
- 7:59Speaker 1: not call Know as Carcamish, is not Hameth as Arpad,
- 8:04Speaker 1: is not Samaria as Damascus. As my hand hath founded
- 8:08Speaker 1: the kingdoms of the Idols, and whose graven images did
- 8:11Speaker 1: excel them of Jerusalem and Samaria, shall I not, as
- 8:16Speaker 1: I have done unto Samaria and her Idols, so do
- 8:19Speaker 1: to Jerusalem and to her Idols. Wherefore it shall come
- 8:23Speaker 1: to pass that when the Lord hath performed his whole
- 8:25Speaker 1: work upon mountains Ion and upon Jerusalem, I will punish
- 8:29Speaker 1: the fruit of the stout heart of the King of
- 8:30Speaker 1: Assyria and the glory of his high looks. For he
- 8:34Speaker 1: saith by the strength of my hand and by my wisdom,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I have done these things, for I am prudent, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I have moved the borders of the people, and have
- 8:43Speaker 1: robbed their treasures. And I have put down the inhabitants
- 8:46Speaker 1: like a valiant man. And my hand hath found as
- 8:50Speaker 1: a nest to the riches of the people, and as
- 8:52Speaker 1: one gathereth eggs that are left. Have I gathered all
- 8:55Speaker 1: the earth, and there was none that moved the wing
- 8:58Speaker 1: or opened the mouth or peace. Shall the axe boast
- 9:02Speaker 1: itself against him that heweth therewith, shall the saw magnify
- 9:06Speaker 1: itself against him that shaketh it, as if the rod
- 9:09Speaker 1: should shake itself against him that lift it up, or
- 9:12Speaker 1: as if the staff should lift up itself, as if
- 9:14Speaker 1: it were no wood. Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord
- 9:18Speaker 1: of Hosts send among his fat one's leanness, and under
- 9:22Speaker 1: his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning
- 9:25Speaker 1: of a fire, and the light of Israel shall be
- 9:28Speaker 1: for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and shall burn, and shall devour his thorns and his
- 9:34Speaker 1: briars in one day, and shall consume the glory of
- 9:37Speaker 1: his forest and of his fruitful field, both body and soul.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And they shall be as when a standard bearer fainteth,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and the rest of the trees of his forests shall
- 9:48Speaker 1: be a few, and that a child may right them.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And it shall come to pass in that day that
- 9:53Speaker 1: the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped to
- 9:56Speaker 1: the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon
- 9:59Speaker 1: him that smote them, but shall stay upon the Lord,
- 10:02Speaker 1: the Holy One of Israel. In truth, the remnant shall return, yea,
- 10:06Speaker 1: even the remnant of Jacob, unto the Mighty God. For
- 10:10Speaker 1: though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea,
- 10:13Speaker 1: yet a remnant of them shall return. The consumption decreed
- 10:17Speaker 1: shall overflow with righteousness, For the Lord God of Hosts
- 10:20Speaker 1: shall make a consumption even determined in all the land. Therefore,
- 10:25Speaker 1: thus saith the Lord God of Hosts, O my people
- 10:28Speaker 1: that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian.
- 10:32Speaker 1: He shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift
- 10:34Speaker 1: up his staff against thee after the manner of Egypt
- 10:38Speaker 1: for yet a little while, and the indignations shall cease
- 10:41Speaker 1: and mine anger in their destruction, And the Lord of
- 10:45Speaker 1: Hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to
- 10:48Speaker 1: the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he
- 10:53Speaker 1: lift it up after the manner of Egypt. And it
- 10:56Speaker 1: shall come to pass in that day that his burden
- 10:58Speaker 1: shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his
- 11:01Speaker 1: yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Because of the anointing he has come up to Ayeth.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He is passed to migrn at Micmash. He hath laid
- 11:12Speaker 1: up his carriages. They are gone over the passage. They
- 11:16Speaker 1: have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramth is afraid.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Gibeah of Saul is fled. Lift up the voice, O,
- 11:25Speaker 1: daughter of Galim, cause it to be heard until laish
- 11:28Speaker 1: oh poor anathoth Madmena is removed. The inhabitants of Ghebim
- 11:34Speaker 1: gathered themselves to flee. As yet shall he remain at
- 11:37Speaker 1: Gnab that day ye shall shake his hand against the
- 11:40Speaker 1: mount of the Daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Behold the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, shall lop the
- 11:47Speaker 1: bough with terror, and the high ones of stature shall
- 11:50Speaker 1: be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled, And
- 11:53Speaker 1: ye shall cut down the thickets of the forests with iron,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one Chapter twenty one.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And there shall come forth a rod out of the
- 12:05Speaker 1: stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of
- 12:07Speaker 1: his roots. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest
- 12:10Speaker 1: upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit
- 12:14Speaker 1: of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge, and of
- 12:17Speaker 1: the fear of the Lord, and shall make him of
- 12:19Speaker 1: quick understanding in the fear of the Lord. And he
- 12:22Speaker 1: shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither
- 12:25Speaker 1: reprove after the hearing of his ears. But with righteousness
- 12:28Speaker 1: shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for
- 12:32Speaker 1: the meek of the earth. And he shall smite the
- 12:34Speaker 1: earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the
- 12:36Speaker 1: breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And
- 12:39Speaker 1: righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness
- 12:42Speaker 1: the girdle of his reigns. The wolf also shall dwell
- 12:46Speaker 1: with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with
- 12:48Speaker 1: the kid and the calf, and the young lion and
- 12:51Speaker 1: the fatling together, and the little child shall lead them,
- 12:56Speaker 1: and the cow and the bear shall feed their young
- 12:59Speaker 1: ones shall lie down together, and the lion shall eat
- 13:02Speaker 1: straw like the ox, and the suckling shall play on
- 13:05Speaker 1: the whole of the asp, and the weaned child shall
- 13:07Speaker 1: put his hand on the Cockatrice's den. They shall not
- 13:11Speaker 1: hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain. For the
- 13:14Speaker 1: earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord,
- 13:16Speaker 1: as the waters cover the sea. And in that day
- 13:19Speaker 1: there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand
- 13:21Speaker 1: for an ensign of the people, to which shall the
- 13:24Speaker 1: gentile seek, and his rest shall be glorious. And it
- 13:28Speaker 1: shall come to pass in that day that the Lord
- 13:30Speaker 1: shall set his hand again the second time to recover
- 13:32Speaker 1: the remnant of his people, which shall be left from
- 13:35Speaker 1: Assyria and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Kush,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and from Elim, and from Shenar, and from Hamath, and
- 13:44Speaker 1: from the islands of the sea. And he shall set
- 13:47Speaker 1: up an enzyme for the nations and shall assemble the
- 13:49Speaker 1: outcasts of Israel and gather together the dispersed of Judah
- 13:53Speaker 1: from the four corners of the earth. The envy of
- 13:56Speaker 1: Ephrium shall also depart, and the adversaries of Judas shall
- 14:00Speaker 1: be cut off. Ephriam shall not envy Judah, and Judah
- 14:03Speaker 1: shall not vex Ephrium. But they shall fly upon the
- 14:07Speaker 1: shoulders of the Philistines towards the west. They shall spoil
- 14:10Speaker 1: them of the east. Together they shall lay their hand
- 14:13Speaker 1: upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon shall
- 14:16Speaker 1: obey them. And the Lord shall utterly destroy the tongue
- 14:20Speaker 1: of the Egyptian Sea. And with his mighty wind, he
- 14:22Speaker 1: shall shake his hand over the river and shall smite
- 14:25Speaker 1: it in the seven streams, and make men go over
- 14:28Speaker 1: dry shod. And there shall be a highway for the
- 14:31Speaker 1: remnant of his people which shall be left from Assyria,
- 14:35Speaker 1: like as it was to Israel in the day that
- 14:37Speaker 1: he came up out of the land of Egypt Chapter
- 14:41Speaker 1: twenty two. And in that day thou shalt say, O, Lord,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I will praise thee Though thou wast anger with me,
- 14:49Speaker 1: thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortest me. Behold,
- 14:53Speaker 1: God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid.
- 14:57Speaker 1: For my Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He also has become my salvation. Therefore, with joy shall
- 15:04Speaker 1: ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. And
- 15:07Speaker 1: in that day shall ye say praise the Lord. Call
- 15:11Speaker 1: upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make
- 15:15Speaker 1: mention that his name is exalted. Sing unto the Lord,
- 15:18Speaker 1: for he hath done excellent things. This is known in
- 15:21Speaker 1: all the earth. Cry and shout thou, inhabitants of Zion,
- 15:25Speaker 1: for great is the Holy One of Israel. In the
- 15:28Speaker 1: midst of thee chapter twenty three, the burden of Babylon,
- 15:34Speaker 1: which Isaiah, the son of Amos, did see, lift ye
- 15:37Speaker 1: up the banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice
- 15:40Speaker 1: unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into
- 15:43Speaker 1: the gates of the nobles. I have commanded my sanctified ones.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I have also called my mighty ones. Remine. Anger is
- 15:50Speaker 1: not upon them that rejoice in my Highness. The noise
- 15:54Speaker 1: of the multitude in the mountains like as of a
- 15:56Speaker 1: great people, a tumultuous noise of the kingdom of nations
- 16:00Speaker 1: gathered together. The Lord of hosts mustereth the hosts of
- 16:04Speaker 1: the battle. They come from a far country, from the
- 16:07Speaker 1: end of heaven. Yea the Lord and the weapons of
- 16:10Speaker 1: his indignation to destroy the whole land. How Ye, for
- 16:14Speaker 1: the day of the Lord is at hand. It shall
- 16:16Speaker 1: come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all
- 16:20Speaker 1: hands be faint, every man's heart shall melt, and they
- 16:24Speaker 1: shall be afraid. Pangs and sorrow shall take hold of them.
- 16:28Speaker 1: They shall be amazed one at another. Their faces shall
- 16:31Speaker 1: be as flames. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh cruel,
- 16:35Speaker 1: both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate.
- 16:39Speaker 1: He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For
- 16:42Speaker 1: the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not
- 16:45Speaker 1: give their light. The sun shall be darkened in his
- 16:48Speaker 1: going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light
- 16:51Speaker 1: to shine. And I will punish the world for evil,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and the wicked for their iniquity. I will cause the
- 16:57Speaker 1: arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will laid down
- 17:00Speaker 1: the haughtiness of the terrible. I will make a man
- 17:04Speaker 1: more precious than fine gold, even a man than the
- 17:06Speaker 1: gold wedge of opher. Therefore I will shake the heavens
- 17:11Speaker 1: and the earth shall remove out of her place in
- 17:13Speaker 1: the wrath of the Lord of Hosts, and in the
- 17:16Speaker 1: day of his fierce anger. And it shall be as
- 17:19Speaker 1: the chaste roe and as a sheep that no man
- 17:21Speaker 1: taketh up. And they shall every man turn to his
- 17:24Speaker 1: own people and flee, every one into his own land.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Every One that is proud shall be thrust through yea,
- 17:31Speaker 1: and every one that is joined to the wicked shall
- 17:34Speaker 1: fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed
- 17:37Speaker 1: to pieces before their eyes. Their houses shall be spoiled,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and their wives ravished. Behold, I will stir up the
- 17:44Speaker 1: meads against them, which shall not regard silver and gold,
- 17:48Speaker 1: nor shall they delight in it. Their bows shall also
- 17:51Speaker 1: dash the young men to pieces, and they shall have
- 17:54Speaker 1: no pity on the fruit of the womb. Their eyes
- 17:56Speaker 1: shall not spare children, and Babylon, the gloe glory of kingdoms,
- 18:01Speaker 1: the beauty of the Chalde's excellency, shall be as when
- 18:04Speaker 1: God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited,
- 18:09Speaker 1: neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there, neither shall the
- 18:15Speaker 1: shepherds make their fold there, But the wild beasts of
- 18:18Speaker 1: the desert shall lie there, and their houses shall be
- 18:21Speaker 1: full of doleful creatures, and owls shall dwell there, and
- 18:25Speaker 1: the satyrs shall dance there, and the wild beasts of
- 18:29Speaker 1: the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons
- 18:33Speaker 1: in their pleasant places. And her time is near to come,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and her days shall not be prolonged, for I will
- 18:39Speaker 1: destroy her speedily. YEA, for I will be merciful unto
- 18:42Speaker 1: my people, but the wicked shall perish. End of Second Nephi,
- 18:49Speaker 1: chapters eighteen to twenty three,
