- 0:19Speaker 1: Hi, this is Lance Henderson, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Listen if you dare.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:30Speaker 4: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:33Speaker 4: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences,
- 0:37Speaker 4: and parental discretion is advised. Powered nuclear reactor pumping out
- 0:43Speaker 4: one million kilowatts of power. Watch a horror movie right.
- 1:11Speaker 5: There on my TV.
- 1:12Speaker 6: Horror movie right.
- 1:14Speaker 2: There on my TV. Horror movie right there.
- 1:26Speaker 4: On my TV.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Horror movie right there on my TV. Horror movie right
- 1:52Speaker 6: there on my TV.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Horror movie.
- 2:05Speaker 2: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 2:07Speaker 5: I'm Brian.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm Nora.
- 2:08Speaker 5: I'm Phillip.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 2:11Speaker 2: the Oddity Studios. The same place where the first episode
- 2:14Speaker 2: of The Horror Club was recorded.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Coincidence?
- 2:20Speaker 2: We'll get back to that later. Otherwise, how's it going?
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's not bad.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Your mind's blown by all the crazy conspiracies going on
- 2:34Speaker 2: on the internets out there.
- 2:35Speaker 1: There's a lot going on.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Most of it ties to the horror club. We're the
- 2:40Speaker 2: center of all conspiracies. So one of those is that
- 2:46Speaker 2: normally we don't even put these out on the regular feed,
- 2:50Speaker 2: but we thought this one, it's a little out of
- 2:53Speaker 2: the norm, at least of our usual... Rolling of the
- 2:58Speaker 2: Die episode. So because of that, we thought maybe we'll
- 3:02Speaker 2: just throw this out to everybody so you can have
- 3:05Speaker 2: a taste. Since it's a new fancy movie, we can go,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, see if everybody wants to hear us yammer
- 3:12Speaker 2: on about horror movies. So that's why this is out
- 3:14Speaker 2: on the normal feed. And what we're telling you is
- 3:18Speaker 2: you should join the horror club and then you can
- 3:20Speaker 2: hear this all the time because we have a lot
- 3:23Speaker 2: of movies to watch.
- 3:24Speaker 1: You'll fall in love with us by the end of this.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I promise.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I don't know why you don't already, but definitely by
- 3:30Speaker 2: the time you hear this. It really did come out
- 3:35Speaker 2: of nowhere. I mean, we were planning on the next
- 3:38Speaker 2: one being the next Die movie, and I kind of
- 3:41Speaker 2: forgot that this was coming out, and then was like, oh, wait,
- 3:45Speaker 2: that's like this weekend.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Obviously, it's green. I want to go see it. And
- 3:50Speaker 2: then saw it, and I think that... If it wasn't
- 3:53Speaker 2: that day, within the next day, I was like, okay,
- 3:55Speaker 2: I just watched Scream, and I need to talk to
- 3:58Speaker 2: you people about it. And then you were about to
- 4:01Speaker 2: go see it, Nora, and I was like, all right, well,
- 4:04Speaker 2: we're two-thirds of the way there. Phillip, if you want
- 4:06Speaker 2: to talk about it, let's do this.
- 4:08Speaker 5: My only contention was whether I could leave my house
- 4:10Speaker 5: due to the snow.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You can blame the snow, but isn't that most weekends
- 4:14Speaker 2: where you're, well, if I can get out of the house. But,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I'd have to get up.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'd have to put on shoes. I mean, this sounds
- 4:21Speaker 2: like a lot of work.
- 4:22Speaker 5: I had to get dressed.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. This is why I don't go
- 4:25Speaker 2: anywhere the most of the time.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I had to leave the house, Brian. I know.
- 4:29Speaker 2: We all did. This is a new movie. We went
- 4:32Speaker 2: to a theater. What's really weird is I went to
- 4:36Speaker 2: a theater twice, which says a lot about this movie.
- 4:40Speaker 2: After I watched it that first time, it was coming
- 4:43Speaker 2: back to this week because it took us a while
- 4:45Speaker 2: to sort of coordinate when we were going to do it.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So I'm like, well, now it's been a few weeks
- 4:48Speaker 2: since I've seen it. But more than that, I kind
- 4:51Speaker 2: of just want to see it again. So that's why,
- 4:55Speaker 2: as you sat down and saw these crazy, some sort of,
- 4:59Speaker 2: speaking of conspiracy, this is like a notebook for an
- 5:02Speaker 2: insane person that puts together their conspiracy website. So that's
- 5:06Speaker 2: what these weird notes are, is the second time I
- 5:08Speaker 2: was like, well, I know, once I get back in there,
- 5:10Speaker 2: I'll be like, oh man, we need to talk about
- 5:11Speaker 2: that and that, and I'm going to forget all of it.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So I brought this piece of paper in, and in
- 5:16Speaker 2: the dark, I'm scribbling and So I'm sure the people,
- 5:20Speaker 2: luckily it was a little more spread out because it's
- 5:21Speaker 2: been a few weeks. So there wasn't somebody right next
- 5:23Speaker 2: to me going, what are you doing? Shut up.
- 5:26Speaker 5: It's a podcast.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You understand. We're dorks.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's research.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I have to make notes. This is a for real thing.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Not just any weirdo in theater like the rest of
- 5:36Speaker 2: you people.
- 5:38Speaker 5: I thought I was the only person in my viewing
- 5:41Speaker 5: and started to talk to the screen. Which I don't
- 5:45Speaker 5: ever do.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Normally, I don't approve of that, but if you're by yourself,
- 5:49Speaker 2: who cares?
- 5:49Speaker 5: And then I heard someone behind me cough, and I
- 5:51Speaker 5: was like, oh, maybe I should be quiet about this.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You should have been like, shut up with your stupid coffee.
- 5:57Speaker 1: See, there were too many people in mine, and I
- 5:59Speaker 1: forgot how distracted I get by people crinkling the little
- 6:04Speaker 1: candy bags and chewing their popcorn, and I was.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Like, shut up. I wasn't necessarily going to go into
- 6:11Speaker 2: this one, but since you.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Brought it up.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I've had this the first time. Thankfully not. I saw
- 6:17Speaker 2: it again yesterday. So not yesterday. The first time I
- 6:20Speaker 2: had what may be one of the worst people near me.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Other activities going on during a movie. I've had people talking.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I've had people. I don't get a lot of texting, actually.
- 6:33Speaker 2: A lot of people complain about that. I haven't had
- 6:34Speaker 2: tons of that, but I've heard a lot of other
- 6:36Speaker 2: weird food noises and other things. Guy next to me
- 6:42Speaker 2: last time. Was dipping.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Ew.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Ew.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: So, it's a horror movie. It's quiet. I'm like, all right,
- 6:54Speaker 2: here we are. We're waiting for this tense moment. And
- 6:56Speaker 2: you'd hear it into his cup that he brought with him.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Maybe in other parts of the world you don't have
- 7:03Speaker 2: this horrible phenomenon. But, yeah, people carrying around a cup
- 7:07Speaker 2: so they can spit into it is kind of disgusting.
- 7:10Speaker 5: That is... Number one, one of the grossest things normally?
- 7:14Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That was rough. So, one more reason I wanted to
- 7:20Speaker 2: put a much better spin on it when I thought
- 7:22Speaker 2: that next time. Not just to make my insane notes,
- 7:26Speaker 2: but also so that I could not have that. So,
- 7:29Speaker 2: I didn't even have anybody in the seat next to
- 7:30Speaker 2: me yesterday. So, thank you very much, people who weren't
- 7:33Speaker 2: that close around me, for making it a much better experience.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It also was a little more interactive, which... Again, normally
- 7:41Speaker 2: I don't like, but horror movies, it's kind of okay sometimes.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It can be fun.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Because it adds to the experience, so we did have
- 7:49Speaker 2: several people behind me. Also, a lot of children voices.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I don't care, but I'm just like, this is an
- 7:59Speaker 2: odd movie to bring your child to, but I guess, again,
- 8:02Speaker 2: we kind of encourage kids to be dark and creepy early, so.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 2: If they're cool with it and nobody was like crying,
- 8:08Speaker 2: it was always people making comments like, don't go in there.
- 8:11Speaker 2: What are you doing? You know, so some of them
- 8:14Speaker 2: were younger. And then there was what it sounded like
- 8:15Speaker 2: a couple or something a few rows back that every
- 8:19Speaker 2: few minutes would be like, oh, man, like just sort
- 8:22Speaker 2: of loud responses that kind of were funny and kind
- 8:26Speaker 2: of enhanced.
- 8:26Speaker 3: It a little bit.
- 8:27Speaker 7: That's fun.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw my nine-year-old niece yesterday, the spooky one,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and she asked, one of the first things she asked was,
- 8:34Speaker 1: have you seen the new Scream movie? And I was like, yes,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I have. Have you? Luckily, she said no, but I
- 8:39Speaker 1: think she wants to.
- 8:42Speaker 6: She should.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I guess.
- 8:45Speaker 1: She's probably seen worse.
- 8:47Speaker 5: I'm going to guess, yeah. I don't think this movie
- 8:49Speaker 5: was that, which we'll get into further on, but it
- 8:53Speaker 5: wasn't too over the top.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It was no spooky mirror witch, but jump scared.
- 8:58Speaker 5: No.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And thankfully didn't have any funny noises along the way.
- 9:04Speaker 5: I don't know. I feel like by the time I
- 9:06Speaker 5: got to the end of that movie, I got used
- 9:07Speaker 5: to the slide whistle.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Courtney Cox makes a joke. Wacky noises in the background. No,
- 9:14Speaker 2: thank you.
- 9:15Speaker 5: See, and for those of you wondering what the hell
- 9:17Speaker 5: we're talking about right now, if you join the horror club,
- 9:21Speaker 5: You can go back and find out, and this will
- 9:23Speaker 5: become hilarious.
- 9:24Speaker 2: See, it is a club, so there's an ongoing journey
- 9:30Speaker 2: that we're going on here, and we quite often reference
- 9:33Speaker 2: previous movies that we've seen and sort of tie them in.
- 9:36Speaker 2: There are weird... This will be a really good week
- 9:39Speaker 2: to go into that. There are overarching horror themes and
- 9:43Speaker 2: things that happen and sometimes are very time stamped and
- 9:47Speaker 2: sometimes change with the times and these are also the
- 9:50Speaker 2: things we dig into at the horror club so plug
- 9:54Speaker 2: plug before we you know return to scream we've already
- 9:58Speaker 2: thrown it out there but um I don't know if
- 10:00Speaker 2: you've seen anything else lately. I definitely have one that's
- 10:03Speaker 2: a nice little intro into the Scream world. Did anyone,
- 10:08Speaker 2: it just came out this weekend, did anyone already watch
- 10:11Speaker 2: The woman in the house across the street from the
- 10:13Speaker 2: girl in the window.
- 10:14Speaker 4: No.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I haven't.
- 10:15Speaker 5: But that popped up on my Netflix thing yesterday. And
- 10:18Speaker 5: I'm like, I have to watch this just for the
- 10:20Speaker 5: title alone.
- 10:21Speaker 2: The beginning of the week, Kristen Bell was already on
- 10:25Speaker 2: TV or internet promoting it. And I was like, all right,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I'm already sold with anything. Like, she's always entertaining.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Well, as soon as you said Kristen Bell.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I love Kristen Bell.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Idiotic.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I'm going to start watching it right now.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And then, yeah, that's the thing. And then I realized...
- 10:40Speaker 2: It was her... And at first I thought it was
- 10:42Speaker 2: a movie, and that's what I planned to... Okay, I'll
- 10:44Speaker 2: watch that this weekend. And then it popped up, and
- 10:45Speaker 2: I was like, damn, series. That's what usually kills it
- 10:49Speaker 2: for me. Thankfully, I think even in the description, it
- 10:52Speaker 2: mentions that it wraps it up relatively quickly. It's like
- 10:55Speaker 2: eight episodes, but they're like 25 minutes with credits.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Oh, hell.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So you knock it out in a few hours, you've
- 11:03Speaker 2: got the whole thing in. So I ended up watching
- 11:06Speaker 2: it all this weekend already. So it... At this point,
- 11:10Speaker 2: sometimes I wonder how they get these projects greenlit. And
- 11:15Speaker 2: I mean this in the best possible way, but because
- 11:18Speaker 2: it fits like my sense of humor, but it is
- 11:22Speaker 2: so specific in what it's trying to do, like overall,
- 11:25Speaker 2: like the way that it's approaching this comedy, because it is,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it works as an intro for this because the whole
- 11:32Speaker 2: thing is a whodunit and you're spending the whole series
- 11:34Speaker 2: trying to figure out who this killer is and who's
- 11:38Speaker 2: doing this and what this person and all these red
- 11:40Speaker 2: herrings and all this crazy stuff going on. So it
- 11:43Speaker 2: very much falls into the category of what we are
- 11:46Speaker 2: going to come back to with scream, but it's doing
- 11:49Speaker 2: it as, as a comedy. And it is like at
- 11:53Speaker 2: times out and out silly, but so much of it
- 11:57Speaker 2: is played so straight that I'm like, Not to make
- 12:02Speaker 2: fun of the normal people, but there's so many that
- 12:04Speaker 2: are going to be like, this movie's weird. Nobody's necessarily
- 12:09Speaker 2: going to be, I guess from the presentation, it's supposed
- 12:12Speaker 2: to be a comedy, so I guess they'll know going in,
- 12:15Speaker 2: but it's so subtle in the way it eases into
- 12:18Speaker 2: it that you're almost like, wait, is this a comedy?
- 12:21Speaker 2: And then at times it gets really silly, and you're like, okay, no,
- 12:25Speaker 2: this is a comedy, but they are so straight about it.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And they're so specifically making fun of these type of stories,
- 12:33Speaker 2: which every girl on the train, girl in the, it's
- 12:37Speaker 2: very specifically the woman in the window that just came out.
- 12:39Speaker 2: It is straight up just mercilessly making fun of that one.
- 12:44Speaker 2: The Amy Adams crazy can't leave her house staring out
- 12:47Speaker 2: the window all day movie that just came out like
- 12:50Speaker 2: a year ago. So it is specifically making fun of
- 12:53Speaker 2: that one, but also kind of every other like mystery
- 12:56Speaker 2: and wannabe and, anybody sitting there listening to true crime
- 12:59Speaker 2: will probably like get this kind of humor well at
- 13:04Speaker 2: least the topic the humor i don't know because again
- 13:06Speaker 2: the way that they approach it is very almost understated
- 13:10Speaker 2: at times to then turn around and do things that
- 13:13Speaker 2: are really ridiculous other times so it's it's odd i'm
- 13:17Speaker 2: intrigued yeah i really enjoyed it but i do feel
- 13:20Speaker 2: like some people are just gonna be like.
- 13:21Speaker 5: I don't know what to do with this do i
- 13:22Speaker 5: need to watch the amy adams movie first.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I mean, it's a little funnier. I didn't hate that one.
- 13:28Speaker 2: And that does have an impressive cast. So it's worth
- 13:31Speaker 2: watching that Amy Adams movie.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Just haven't gotten around to it.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'm assuming it's still on there. So it will be
- 13:36Speaker 2: a nice, you know, extra long double feature. But it's, yeah,
- 13:41Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. And I think what they're doing is
- 13:43Speaker 2: really funny. But it is such an odd approach. So
- 13:47Speaker 2: that's why I was like, How do you get that
- 13:50Speaker 2: sort of a thing and that such a specific type
- 13:53Speaker 2: of comedy and sense of humor to be multi-million dollar Greenland?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Because it's again, it's a well-made thing. It's not cheap.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It looks nice and they got real actors and like
- 14:04Speaker 2: it's very well put together. So yeah, I just, there's
- 14:08Speaker 2: so many series out there. Sometimes I don't understand how
- 14:11Speaker 2: you sell that many and for most of them to
- 14:13Speaker 2: be well financed and not everybody gets you know, some
- 14:17Speaker 2: of them don't take off at all. So I don't know,
- 14:21Speaker 2: but it's definitely worth watching. If you're okay with, you know,
- 14:27Speaker 2: mysteries and or comedy, if it's your type of comedy,
- 14:31Speaker 2: if not, probably after an episode or two, you'll be like, Nope,
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm done.
- 14:34Speaker 1: At least it's not a big time investment.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: 20 minutes. You'll just be like, I don't know what
- 14:39Speaker 2: they're doing here. I'm going to go find something else
- 14:40Speaker 2: to watch.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Well, I finally subscribed to, uh, A certain horror-specific streaming service.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That's not plugging us. So who cares? If they'd like
- 14:51Speaker 2: to come on board, we'll definitely promote them every week.
- 14:55Speaker 2: But until then, some horror streaming service. Some horror streaming service.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But I will say I'm really excited about it because
- 15:02Speaker 1: they have a lot of really cool stuff.
- 15:04Speaker 2: If it's the one I did the little trial on,
- 15:06Speaker 2: there's a lot of.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Stuff on there.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 3: It's the one I'm thinking of, yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And I watched all of Eli Roth's History of Horror,
- 15:14Speaker 1: which I don't even like Eli Roth. I think he's
- 15:17Speaker 1: kind of a douche, but it's nice because the focus
- 15:19Speaker 1: isn't really on him. He is interviewing other people.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He's the horror Tarantino.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 2: As a person, he seems kind of annoying, but he's
- 15:29Speaker 2: so schooled on what he does, you kind of have
- 15:32Speaker 2: to give him a pass. If you're a movie fan,
- 15:34Speaker 2: you have to be impressed with him because he has
- 15:36Speaker 2: the wealth of knowledge. I have to be interested in
- 15:40Speaker 2: what you say, even if sometimes you're kind of annoying.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And he does. It's super detailed and a really cool
- 15:46Speaker 1: overview of all these different topics and all these different eras.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So I've been getting into those documentary things on there,
- 15:53Speaker 1: which is fun. I haven't watched any of their original
- 15:57Speaker 1: movies yet, even though I've been reading about a lot
- 15:59Speaker 1: of those that are supposed to be good. But I'm
- 16:01Speaker 1: excited to get more into that one.
- 16:05Speaker 2: That'll give us more stuff. But then we all have
- 16:07Speaker 2: to subscribe.
- 16:09Speaker 7: I know.
- 16:10Speaker 2: That's how they get you.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I bet you could find a bunch of the older
- 16:13Speaker 1: ones on YouTube or something. All the weird ones.
- 16:15Speaker 2: That is where we find a lot of our weird
- 16:17Speaker 2: stuff these days.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It's true. Or, I mean, a non-sponsoring video streaming service.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Eh, you can't fight them.
- 16:26Speaker 3: They're too huge.
- 16:27Speaker 1: It's true.
- 16:27Speaker 2: They run the world at this point.
- 16:29Speaker 3: It's true. But yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 5: I have i'm behind the curve on this one but
- 16:35Speaker 5: i finally started watching only murders in the building yay
- 16:38Speaker 5: which yeah the first episode i was like oh this
- 16:41Speaker 5: is okay then it gets to the sort of reveal
- 16:44Speaker 5: at the end and i'm like i have to watch
- 16:46Speaker 5: this and i was not able to stop watching it
- 16:50Speaker 5: and i got i get that i got to like
- 16:52Speaker 5: the end of the third episode and and kim a
- 16:55Speaker 5: started my wife started to Just as she was going
- 16:59Speaker 5: in and out of the room, started to get invested
- 17:01Speaker 5: in it.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Hey, what's going on here?
- 17:03Speaker 5: Now I have to go back and re-watch them so
- 17:06Speaker 5: she can see them, which I'm okay with, but I
- 17:08Speaker 5: have to wait until we can watch them all together. Otherwise,
- 17:10Speaker 5: it's streaming cheating.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I know. I mean, that is true. That stuff is
- 17:15Speaker 2: serious when you're in a relationship.
- 17:17Speaker 5: We've had... It's come up. On both sides. On both sides.
- 17:22Speaker 2: It's no joke, man. I get it. You betrayed me.
- 17:27Speaker 1: That's why I haven't watched as many movies on that
- 17:30Speaker 1: service as I want to because my boyfriend is studying
- 17:32Speaker 1: for the bar exam all the time. So he'll still
- 17:35Speaker 1: be next to me, but he'll have earplugs in. And
- 17:37Speaker 1: so I'm like, well, I don't want to watch anything
- 17:39Speaker 1: good if you're not paying attention too because then I'm
- 17:41Speaker 1: going to tell you about it and then you're going
- 17:43Speaker 1: to want to watch it and then we're going to
- 17:44Speaker 1: have to do it again.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Just combine your efforts.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But he didn't really like only murders in the building
- 17:51Speaker 1: and I never finished it. So maybe that's the.
- 17:54Speaker 2: One that I'll watch next. I was thinking that with
- 17:58Speaker 2: the Kristen Bell thing, I was just like, it's, it
- 18:02Speaker 2: seems like it's, I mean, they had to already be
- 18:03Speaker 2: working on it, but it seems like it's good timing
- 18:06Speaker 2: for that because we just had one that was a
- 18:08Speaker 2: little bit comedy, mostly mystery. And then definitely was a
- 18:12Speaker 2: streaming version that this is sort of, Only it's Netflix,
- 18:15Speaker 2: so they just dropped them all. You didn't have to wait.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Because when I watched it the first time, it was
- 18:19Speaker 2: once a week. That's how Hulu was doing it. So,
- 18:22Speaker 2: it's like this time, Netflix just dropped them and you
- 18:24Speaker 2: can go through the whole thing. So, I think that'll
- 18:27Speaker 2: kind of come in handy coming off of that, you know,
- 18:29Speaker 2: all the fan base for Only Murders in the Building.
- 18:32Speaker 2: You can watch this and knock it out.
- 18:33Speaker 5: There's so many true crime fan, podcast fans.
- 18:38Speaker 2: It's ridiculous.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Right now, it's nuts. People that I never would have
- 18:42Speaker 5: thought would have cared about that sort of thing and
- 18:44Speaker 5: It's very strange. I mean, I like it because I'm
- 18:48Speaker 5: morbid and twisted.
- 18:50Speaker 2: See, I like it within reason, but I don't seek
- 18:55Speaker 2: it out and dive into it the way so many
- 18:57Speaker 2: people do because I'm like, I have enough darkness in me.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I don't need to seek out more horrible stories. If
- 19:05Speaker 2: you're making a movie, then it's fun. I know it's fake.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Hearing the real stories of these horrible things that happened
- 19:11Speaker 2: to people that probably didn't deserve it, I have enough
- 19:14Speaker 2: of it. horror inside i don't need to bring in
- 19:16Speaker 2: extra so every once in a while i'm like just
- 19:19Speaker 2: just make that a movie and i'll watch it later
- 19:22Speaker 2: yeah i don't need to hear somebody.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Talk about it for hours That's probably wise because I'm
- 19:26Speaker 1: like the opposite. I listen to so many of those
- 19:30Speaker 1: and I am the most anxious person alive. I'm just
- 19:33Speaker 1: constantly terrified.
- 19:35Speaker 2: You're fueling the darkness.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't know how much is like, be prepared.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Anything could happen.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And how much is just never leave my house ever
- 19:43Speaker 1: again or talk to anybody. So, you know. But if
- 19:46Speaker 1: someone tries to kill me, good luck.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I just know, Danette. leave the house or trust anyone
- 19:51Speaker 2: so once you got that out of the way you
- 19:53Speaker 2: know you're.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Good yeah never leave the house never let anyone into
- 19:57Speaker 1: your house never get into your car never but never
- 20:00Speaker 1: walk anywhere never make friends with anyone But don't become
- 20:04Speaker 1: a hermit because then if you get murdered, no one
- 20:05Speaker 1: will notice you're missing for like weeks.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Which is honestly my biggest concern.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Your cat's totally going to eat you.
- 20:11Speaker 1: And your cat's going.
- 20:12Speaker 2: To eat you.
- 20:12Speaker 5: I am okay with my, if I die and the
- 20:14Speaker 5: cats eat me, I say bon appetit.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:18Speaker 2: They're like waiting now. They're like, finally! Because I know
- 20:21Speaker 2: it'll be weeks.
- 20:22Speaker 5: If not months before someone finds me. And I don't
- 20:25Speaker 5: want them to go hungry.
- 20:27Speaker 1: This is my last gift to you.
- 20:29Speaker 2: It's the circle of life. The circle of hermit life.
- 20:33Speaker 5: One of them will lick me occasionally and I'm wondering.
- 20:36Speaker 2: If that's just a preview. Where do you guys keep
- 20:39Speaker 2: the salt? Might need this later. Anyway, have a nice day.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Alright.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Are we ready? to get into i think so yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 6: Get more out of life go out to.
- 20:58Speaker 1: A movie this.
- 21:00Speaker 7: Isn't funny amber what do you like Doors unlocked. Oh,
- 21:24Speaker 7: my God! All doors locked. Doors unlocked.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Hello? It's happening.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Three attacks so far. Do you have a gun?
- 21:52Speaker 2: I'm Sidney Prescott.
- 21:53Speaker 7: Of course I have a gun.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Something about this.
- 21:57Speaker 5: One just feels different.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Samantha?
- 22:07Speaker 2: I know who you are. I've been through this.
- 22:10Speaker 7: A lot.
- 22:12Speaker 6: This is your life now, which means that whoever this
- 22:14Speaker 6: is is going to keep coming for you.
- 22:19Speaker 7: You ready?
- 22:20Speaker 2: This there's.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Certain rules to surviving attacks were all on people related
- 22:33Speaker 5: to the original killers.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Whatever his link is to our past it's pulled.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Us all back here and.
- 22:44Speaker 6: I won't sleep until he's in the ground.
- 23:04Speaker 2: You don't have no self-respect.
- 23:06Speaker 5: You feel like an insect.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Well, don't you worry, buddy, because here he comes.
- 23:12Speaker 8: Through the ghettos and the barrio and the barrio and
- 23:16Speaker 8: the slum.
- 23:20Speaker 2: His shadow is cast wherever he stands.
- 23:24Speaker 9: Stacks of green paper in his red right hand.
- 23:36Speaker 2: All right, as we said, we left the house. We
- 23:39Speaker 2: didn't follow our own rules that we just said. We
- 23:42Speaker 2: left the house and went out on the town. So
- 23:45Speaker 2: this week's Out on the Town Horror Club feature is Scream. Wait,
- 23:49Speaker 2: didn't we already have a movie with that? We'll get
- 23:51Speaker 2: back to that later. The year is 2022. The directors,
- 23:55Speaker 2: let's see if I can get these, Matt Battinelli and
- 24:00Speaker 2: Tyler Gillette.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Not the hardest names we've had to pronounce.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Tyler, yeah, Tyler, you know. He's keeping it real. He's
- 24:07Speaker 2: just got a nice razor name, but I had to
- 24:09Speaker 2: figure out that first one. But, yeah, these two seem
- 24:12Speaker 2: to work together pretty consistently, so we'll get to them
- 24:17Speaker 2: as well. And they plot according to IMDb, which, let's see,
- 24:22Speaker 2: what was the issue with this one? All right, yeah,
- 24:25Speaker 2: I already have issues with it.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Well, first of all, if you've seen any of the
- 24:27Speaker 5: other Scream movies, do you really need a plot synopsis?
- 24:30Speaker 3: Kind of.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Kind of? Because according to IMDb, 25 years later.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I guess that's important.
- 24:38Speaker 2: 25 years after the original series of murders in Woodsboro,
- 24:42Speaker 2: a new ghost face emerges and Sidney Prescott must return
- 24:45Speaker 2: to uncover the truth.
- 24:47Speaker 7: Eh.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I don't know that Sidney's uncovering the truth. She's in
- 24:52Speaker 2: the vicinity when truth is revealed. I don't know that
- 24:55Speaker 2: she's like figuring out a mystery.
- 24:57Speaker 5: She's adjacent to the truth.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Somebody is, but she's just sort of in the vicinity.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 25:01Speaker 5: It was nice to see her again.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Definitely.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I just thought that was a weird way to phrase it,
- 25:07Speaker 2: like it's a Nancy Drew mystery. Well, it is, but
- 25:10Speaker 2: she's not Nancy Drew this time. So, spoiler alert, we're
- 25:14Speaker 2: going to ruin this movie, and I'm assuming along the way,
- 25:18Speaker 2: every other Scream movie. So, spoilers for this new movie
- 25:22Speaker 2: and every previous Scream movie. You've been warned. I would
- 25:27Speaker 2: assume by now you've already seen them all. There, that
- 25:30Speaker 2: having been said. Where would you like to begin?
- 25:35Speaker 5: Well, I'd like to where you just said with the
- 25:37Speaker 5: if you've probably seen them already. If you haven't, there
- 25:41Speaker 5: is enough exposition in the first 30 minutes of this
- 25:44Speaker 5: movie to make you feel like you've seen all of
- 25:47Speaker 5: them and more so.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And they definitely said, I mean, this is that sort
- 25:52Speaker 2: of bookend thing to the first one. But they work
- 25:55Speaker 2: in references and characters from all of them. Even the
- 26:00Speaker 2: non-West one. We've got one of our main characters is
- 26:03Speaker 2: direct tie into the fourth movie. So it's like they
- 26:06Speaker 2: don't really leave any of it out. Everything is in there.
- 26:09Speaker 2: But the bulk of it ties to that first movie.
- 26:12Speaker 5: And I get it. 25 years has gone by. And
- 26:14Speaker 5: I don't remember how long. It's been like what? A
- 26:16Speaker 5: dozen years?
- 26:17Speaker 2: It's like 11 I think since 4 came out.
- 26:19Speaker 5: So I get it. But there was a lot of. Oh,
- 26:22Speaker 5: this happened, and then this guy did this.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I think it fits, though, because, I mean, other than,
- 26:29Speaker 2: I guess it's, if you live in that town, it's
- 26:31Speaker 2: probably super redundant, but it's a whole new generation of
- 26:35Speaker 2: kids who wouldn't have known any of that. They weren't
- 26:38Speaker 2: born by the time any of this was going on,
- 26:40Speaker 2: so it's good for them to be discussing it, because
- 26:44Speaker 2: it makes sense. You know, they don't remember it. You know,
- 26:48Speaker 2: our old characters are all there for that. They remember,
- 26:50Speaker 2: but any of the kids who are the bulk of
- 26:53Speaker 2: our cast wouldn't have known any of this. So they
- 26:55Speaker 2: do have to kind of discuss the basics. So I
- 26:58Speaker 2: was okay with all that.
- 26:59Speaker 5: I didn't say I wasn't okay with it. There was
- 27:01Speaker 5: a lot.
- 27:02Speaker 2: There is a good amount of exposition.
- 27:03Speaker 5: And packed in like ones when the scene where they're
- 27:06Speaker 5: driving to Woodsboro, it's like, oh, come on, get the killing.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Oh, there's some killing.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Well, we do get a new opening. I mean, that
- 27:16Speaker 2: is the screen thing is the opening scene, the opening
- 27:20Speaker 2: kill scene. And they immediately found a way to vary
- 27:23Speaker 2: it up. So I give them points for that. This
- 27:25Speaker 2: is the first time we haven't killed the character. And
- 27:29Speaker 2: I think that's kind of cool and interesting and definitely
- 27:33Speaker 2: puts a different spin on this because number one, that
- 27:36Speaker 2: character is very important throughout the rest of the movie. Also,
- 27:40Speaker 2: I think Jenna Ortega is the MVP of this movie.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 2: She is so good. Like I've, again, I've been watching
- 27:47Speaker 2: her since she's a child. She's still kind of a child.
- 27:50Speaker 2: It's weird that she's been making stuff as long as
- 27:52Speaker 2: she has, but watching her again yesterday, I was like,
- 27:55Speaker 2: her scene. Everybody's good in it, but she is just solid.
- 28:00Speaker 2: To be as young as she is, she's a hell
- 28:02Speaker 2: of an actress.
- 28:03Speaker 5: In that first scene, going back to the first one,
- 28:08Speaker 5: Drew Barrymore's character, I didn't care if she was killed
- 28:11Speaker 5: or not, but this girl, when she's playing the game
- 28:14Speaker 5: with the guy, I'm like, she's actually being Smart about this.
- 28:18Speaker 5: She has the advantage to where she can Google stuff,
- 28:20Speaker 5: unlike Drew's character. But then when the actual attack happens,
- 28:24Speaker 5: she's such a badass.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 5: And she's doing smart things. She's trying, at least, to
- 28:30Speaker 5: call 911. She's trying to keep her house locked up.
- 28:34Speaker 5: And she's actually fighting back. She's doing damage to the guy.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I was invested in her character more so than
- 28:41Speaker 1: any of the other opening characters.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Scenes yeah I was like this will be an interesting
- 28:47Speaker 5: twist if she lives through this first scene how is
- 28:51Speaker 5: that going to change the dynamic of the rest of the.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Movie yeah I like that they changed that up because
- 28:56Speaker 2: again it's five times in it's like how much can
- 28:59Speaker 2: you keep i mean by the fourth one it was
- 29:02Speaker 2: a joke if you remember the opening to the fourth
- 29:04Speaker 2: one there are three different variations a fake out and
- 29:08Speaker 2: a fake out and like a fake version of a
- 29:10Speaker 2: stab thing and like so they were already making fun
- 29:13Speaker 2: of the fact that that's how all their movies open
- 29:16Speaker 2: so it's like to do it straight again and stick
- 29:19Speaker 2: to that same premise and this Pattern that they always do.
- 29:22Speaker 2: It's just, yeah, it would have seemed kind of a
- 29:26Speaker 2: little too run of the mill. So I do like
- 29:28Speaker 2: that they make a big change by letting her live.
- 29:31Speaker 2: And it fits the plot as we go on, because
- 29:34Speaker 2: would the sister have come back if she was dead?
- 29:37Speaker 2: Would she have come back just for the funeral or
- 29:39Speaker 2: would she have? hadn't seen her in five years maybe
- 29:41Speaker 2: not but her still being alive definitely kind of has
- 29:45Speaker 2: reason to go back there so it does kind of
- 29:48Speaker 2: make sense too because this not to jump all the
- 29:51Speaker 2: way to the end but this This ghost face is
- 29:53Speaker 2: doing things for different reasons than previous ones. So it
- 29:56Speaker 2: is a little more calculated in the way that they
- 29:59Speaker 2: do these things.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 30:01Speaker 1: And I also loved her little monologue about elevated horror.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Because she likes your smart movies.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I'm like, it's me.
- 30:07Speaker 2: She likes all your movies. I know. I love her.
- 30:10Speaker 1: That's probably also why I was so invested. I was like,
- 30:12Speaker 1: it's me. Don't kill me.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Come on.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I did like the fact that she not only
- 30:18Speaker 2: liked smart movies, but was specifically like, and that's why
- 30:21Speaker 2: I like them. I don't like this other stuff. And
- 30:24Speaker 2: I haven't bothered to watch it. Like the fact that
- 30:26Speaker 2: she's just kind of, I don't know, once when I
- 30:28Speaker 2: was at a sleepover like these lame horror movies are
- 30:32Speaker 2: for children i like smart horror movies i'm like well
- 30:35Speaker 2: i gotta appreciate.
- 30:36Speaker 1: That i need devastating undercurrents of grief and loss.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Not just a stabby.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Guy which to be fair i like both again that was.
- 30:46Speaker 2: My thing like i enjoy my slashers as well but
- 30:50Speaker 2: there is something to be said about you know the
- 30:52Speaker 2: babadook's a badass yeah It Follows is really smart the
- 30:57Speaker 2: way that it does its thing. It's like, yeah, I
- 30:59Speaker 2: appreciate those kind of.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Things.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Hello, Sidney.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Hello there. Where'd you go?
- 31:08Speaker 5: Oh, this isn't Amber.
- 31:09Speaker 4: I'm the other one.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Oh, there's two of you.
- 31:14Speaker 7: Again. I've seen this movie before.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Not this movie, Sidney.
- 31:19Speaker 3: You really need some new material.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I got you here, didn't I?
- 31:25Speaker 4: He might actually be the most derivative one among them
- 31:27Speaker 4: in Christ the same house. Maybe so. You forgot the
- 31:31Speaker 4: first rule of surviving a Stan movie. Never answer the door.
- 31:34Speaker 4: I'm bored. Wait!
- 31:36Speaker 2: Well, that does get to what I think one of
- 31:39Speaker 2: the main things I wanted to get to, and I
- 31:41Speaker 2: was noticing, not just this time, every single time. I
- 31:45Speaker 2: think I brought it up recently, that one of the
- 31:47Speaker 2: things Scream has always done as a franchise was sort of,
- 31:52Speaker 2: Because it's referential to horror movies, it also kind of
- 31:55Speaker 2: has to address the fact that things are changing, not
- 31:59Speaker 2: just within the franchise, but within the world. So again,
- 32:03Speaker 2: like the first movie is all, you know, we were
- 32:05Speaker 2: already dealing with, oh, it could be a cell phone.
- 32:08Speaker 2: You know, that was a big revolution in the 90s that,
- 32:10Speaker 2: you know, they could be standing outside your window talking
- 32:13Speaker 2: to you, which happens again in this movie. But even
- 32:17Speaker 2: by the second one, they're already making the joke of, okay,
- 32:19Speaker 2: I have caller ID. I know who it is. So
- 32:22Speaker 2: they're upping it with technology each time. So by the
- 32:24Speaker 2: time we get to this movie, it's like we have
- 32:28Speaker 2: so many updates to it that are being integrated into
- 32:32Speaker 2: the horror thing that we've got not only, I mean,
- 32:36Speaker 2: they were definitely working in by the fourth one that
- 32:39Speaker 2: texting is just routine for people now. So the fact
- 32:42Speaker 2: that you can use that as part of your tool,
- 32:44Speaker 2: you know, a lot of horror movies try to do that,
- 32:46Speaker 2: but they definitely found a way to work that in
- 32:49Speaker 2: effectively in this movie. But even like the fancy door locks,
- 32:54Speaker 2: like you said, she's trying to keep the doors locked. Well,
- 32:56Speaker 2: now someone can override that. And so you're, they're using
- 32:59Speaker 2: technology to protect themselves. And at the same time, we've
- 33:02Speaker 2: got the killer that can find new ways to get
- 33:05Speaker 2: into your house because of this technology. So I thought
- 33:08Speaker 2: that was kind of cool.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Well, I think, walking into this movie i remember thinking
- 33:13Speaker 5: man this this you know i tried to be as
- 33:15Speaker 5: open-minded as i could about it but i was like
- 33:18Speaker 5: this stream there's only so much you can do without
- 33:22Speaker 5: stepping too far out of the boundaries of what it's
- 33:24Speaker 5: set up for itself or so i thought and i
- 33:27Speaker 5: thought this is going to be very well-worn territory when
- 33:30Speaker 5: we walk in and even when the phone rang the
- 33:32Speaker 5: first time i'm like who has a landline and they
- 33:35Speaker 5: even they called themselves out on that kind of which
- 33:39Speaker 5: Which is kind of what they've always done.
- 33:41Speaker 2: They've always been smart about calling themselves out.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I was going to get into this later. The
- 33:45Speaker 5: whole series has always been very self-aware. This movie, at
- 33:49Speaker 5: a couple of times, I was like, okay, maybe this
- 33:51Speaker 5: is too self-aware. But they did bring it back to
- 33:55Speaker 5: a level where you're like, okay, I get it. I
- 33:57Speaker 5: get what you're doing here.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I think it's definitely by the end, not really any
- 34:02Speaker 2: more self-aware than it needs to be based on what happens.
- 34:05Speaker 2: And at the same time, it's not like it's a
- 34:07Speaker 2: different thing. Go back and watch that first movie. It
- 34:09Speaker 2: is nothing but Randy explaining how horror movies work. Everybody
- 34:14Speaker 2: in the cast goes... constantly making movie references like it's
- 34:17Speaker 2: just it's kevin williamson so that's what he does like
- 34:21Speaker 2: it is just everybody even the non-geeky characters just sort
- 34:24Speaker 2: of speak in geek talk like it is just the
- 34:28Speaker 2: it's a different language than even normal movies and normal
- 34:32Speaker 2: people speak something well not me but outside of this
- 34:35Speaker 2: room i can't normally have those kind of conversations but
- 34:38Speaker 2: like they're sort of everybody seems to talk that way
- 34:41Speaker 2: yeah and so i think it's that steeped in geekiness
- 34:45Speaker 2: that like it fits right in in this movie too
- 34:47Speaker 2: i think everybody and in that little group seemed like
- 34:50Speaker 2: they all kind of knew that stuff anyway i.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Think that was a big part of what made the
- 34:53Speaker 5: original one so successful as a movie because you're not
- 34:58Speaker 5: you're not just watching a movie you're watching a diatribe
- 35:02Speaker 5: on how movies how ridiculous they are but how effective
- 35:07Speaker 5: they can be And they brought it back full circle
- 35:10Speaker 5: with this one, I felt like. I think they kind
- 35:12Speaker 5: of got away from that by the third and the
- 35:14Speaker 5: fourth one a little bit.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Everyone, and that's what I was thinking as we get to...
- 35:20Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know if we want to
- 35:22Speaker 2: jump to this yet. But by the end, they all
- 35:25Speaker 2: have a bigger thing that they're sort of examining as
- 35:29Speaker 2: they go on. So I don't know if we want
- 35:32Speaker 2: to wait until we get to the big reveal. But yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: definitely there's kind of a bigger... Again, they're almost making
- 35:40Speaker 2: a commentary as they go, which that first one definitely was.
- 35:44Speaker 2: And then each one kind of chooses a new avenue
- 35:47Speaker 2: of like, all right, well, how about this? So it's
- 35:50Speaker 2: like they each kind of have a different approach to
- 35:53Speaker 2: this same general idea.
- 35:54Speaker 5: I feel like we almost need to just go scene
- 35:57Speaker 5: by scene with this freaking movie.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot to work with.
- 36:02Speaker 5: There's a lot to talk about.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Let me check through my random in the dark scribbling
- 36:09Speaker 2: that I did. See what I had here. I mean,
- 36:12Speaker 2: we do, we, we get like our introduction to the
- 36:15Speaker 2: new characters, but I guess our first legacy character is Dewey.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And I will give him credit too, because seeing him
- 36:23Speaker 2: as a regular person, but Dewey like so different. And
- 36:28Speaker 2: like you, by that first movie, like everybody kind of
- 36:31Speaker 2: loved Dewey. Like you just, yeah. such a likable character.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And so as time's gone on, like you really have
- 36:38Speaker 2: logged in all this time with this character and like,
- 36:42Speaker 2: he's sad. It's just, it's such a bad place, but
- 36:47Speaker 2: he's still like, it doesn't, it doesn't totally rob him
- 36:51Speaker 2: of who he is. Like that essence of who that
- 36:53Speaker 2: character is, is still there. And like, yeah, I was
- 36:56Speaker 2: surprised how effective that still is 25 years in.
- 37:00Speaker 5: Think about Dewey too. Like, Everything he's been through.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Like all the people in his life that he's lost.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 5: You know, his little sister, all of his friends. And
- 37:11Speaker 5: I mean, she's not dead, but his wife, I don't
- 37:13Speaker 5: know if they were ever married. I can't remember, but
- 37:15Speaker 5: definitely at.
- 37:16Speaker 2: One point, but yeah, they've been together several times now. Yeah.
- 37:20Speaker 2: So yeah, he's, he's had a rough run and, and
- 37:25Speaker 2: more than the other, like, again, I, Gail's never really
- 37:29Speaker 2: done anything for me. she serves her purpose in the
- 37:32Speaker 2: plot but like i don't know if it's just courtney
- 37:35Speaker 2: or the character of gail weathers but from the beginning
- 37:38Speaker 2: i'm like are we done with her yet and sydney's
- 37:42Speaker 2: cool like sydney's there to be our central character but
- 37:45Speaker 2: she again especially earlier on i think i like her
- 37:49Speaker 2: more as she's aged into it but like in the
- 37:51Speaker 2: beginning she didn't have tons of like her own specific
- 37:55Speaker 2: personality so much so that even like again you come
- 37:58Speaker 2: out way more attached to dewey i feel like than
- 38:00Speaker 2: sydney that first movie she's just our final girl but
- 38:03Speaker 2: like there's so much weird quirky like personality to dewey
- 38:07Speaker 2: that like you really do sort of attach yourself to
- 38:09Speaker 2: him so i think of the three he is the
- 38:12Speaker 2: one that you're kind of a little more invested in
- 38:14Speaker 2: and because he's been through so much and i don't
- 38:17Speaker 2: know so yeah it was kind of good to get
- 38:20Speaker 2: back to that.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I love the scene with him and the gang of
- 38:25Speaker 1: youths where they're all in their like living room going
- 38:28Speaker 1: over kind of, I mean, explaining to us what this
- 38:32Speaker 1: pattern that we've seen over and over. And like, here
- 38:34Speaker 1: are some hot tips early on to figure out who
- 38:37Speaker 1: it's going to be. And they're just like razzing him
- 38:40Speaker 1: and doing their amazing, you know, meta horror movie commentary
- 38:45Speaker 1: discussion and everything. But I thought that was so funny.
- 38:48Speaker 5: I even love how, where they're like, you know, maybe
- 38:50Speaker 5: it's you, Dewey. And he's like, yeah, maybe it is me. But,
- 38:55Speaker 5: you know.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Well, I do like at that point and by the
- 38:58Speaker 2: end of the movie, too, they're just like, yeah, it's
- 39:00Speaker 2: just smart for us to all assume the other person
- 39:03Speaker 2: did it, even when it's me.
- 39:05Speaker 7: I agree.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's a good idea that you don't trust me, even
- 39:08Speaker 2: though I know I didn't do it. But I would
- 39:10Speaker 2: tell you that even if I did do it. So
- 39:11Speaker 2: it's best that you don't trust me. Yeah. It all
- 39:13Speaker 2: becomes this big roundabout discussion that I'm like from the beginning.
- 39:17Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, really don't don't trust anybody. And that
- 39:19Speaker 2: includes me. Like if anybody's got reason to be messed up,
- 39:22Speaker 2: it's me. So it probably could be me.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 1: And I don't remember what the, one of the kids
- 39:28Speaker 1: says to him, but his response of like, well, maybe
- 39:30Speaker 1: you're the killer. Cause that was cold.
- 39:33Speaker 2: It's cause he called him out for his whole life.
- 39:37Speaker 2: And you're fired from your job and you crawled into
- 39:40Speaker 2: a bottle. And he's like, you like cut deep. I
- 39:43Speaker 2: was like, again, I'm like, this is why we love
- 39:45Speaker 2: doing like, he's just, he's just sappy. And yeah, he
- 39:49Speaker 2: gets attached and he gets his feelings hurt. And like,
- 39:52Speaker 2: So yeah, he's such a real person that you genuinely
- 39:55Speaker 2: start to love that character.
- 39:56Speaker 5: I remember watching the first Scream movie and there's a
- 39:59Speaker 5: scene early on where the phone rings in the house
- 40:02Speaker 5: and it goes through the whole thing and then it's
- 40:05Speaker 5: done and then he picks it up and they've clearly
- 40:08Speaker 5: hung up and he's like, hello? And I remember thinking,
- 40:10Speaker 5: I can't wait until this guy gets killed. And then
- 40:13Speaker 5: as time has gone by, I'm like, he's the one
- 40:15Speaker 5: character I don't want to die.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I know.
- 40:18Speaker 2: And I think was supposed to in that first movie. Probably.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And like, even by them making it, I think they realized,
- 40:24Speaker 2: oh no, we should probably keep him around. Like even
- 40:26Speaker 2: if we don't make more movies, he's just such a
- 40:28Speaker 2: lovable character. We want him to come out okay in
- 40:31Speaker 2: the end. So I think they sort of retooled it
- 40:33Speaker 2: by the end of the movie to keep him around.
- 40:35Speaker 2: So little did they know, 25 years later, he's still
- 40:38Speaker 2: playing the same guy. But again, we have him like
- 40:42Speaker 2: right off the bat kind of nailing the scenario. Not
- 40:46Speaker 2: only this is what you need to look for, but
- 40:49Speaker 2: not to jump to the end yet, but he nailed it.
- 40:53Speaker 2: He nailed it right off the bat. He's just like, well,
- 40:56Speaker 2: here's the most likely scenario. And he's right. So it's
- 41:00Speaker 2: kind of good to see even though they ask him
- 41:02Speaker 2: to leave his job, he's still a pretty good detective really.
- 41:07Speaker 2: They once again don't disappoint on our not so subtle
- 41:12Speaker 2: reference names. Our lead is Samantha Carpenter from one of
- 41:17Speaker 2: those Wes Carpenter movies, you know. So, yeah, I thought
- 41:21Speaker 2: that was, again, if we're gonna, it's not like it
- 41:23Speaker 2: was subtle the first movie, so let's continue the tradition
- 41:27Speaker 2: and definitely give her that name.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Well, and of course, her friend Wes, which I didn't
- 41:33Speaker 1: even make the connection.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I didn't really think about it that much, but yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 2: they did specifically rename the character.
- 41:40Speaker 5: And so much so that at the end of the
- 41:44Speaker 5: movie when the credits start to roll and it says
- 41:48Speaker 5: dedicated to wes or for wes or whatever it says
- 41:52Speaker 5: the guy behind the one person in the theater that
- 41:55Speaker 5: was there behind me he starts laughing huh for wes
- 41:58Speaker 5: so i don't even think he got you mean that
- 42:01Speaker 5: guy yeah i think yeah i think he meant oh
- 42:05Speaker 5: you mean the guy with the two-tone hair see.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Yeah i went through the whole movie knowing this character
- 42:11Speaker 1: was Wes, after he dies, they have that big party
- 42:14Speaker 1: where everybody's going for Wes and there's four Wes in
- 42:17Speaker 1: like balloons. And then when the credits rolled, it said
- 42:20Speaker 1: for Wes, I was like, oh, like an idiot.
- 42:26Speaker 2: But I got it then.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Just didn't make that connection.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Well, I do, again, like, it is interesting, this being
- 42:37Speaker 2: what it is. And like, I remember, So many times
- 42:42Speaker 2: in a couple of months ago, whatever it was, when
- 42:45Speaker 2: all these people went to go see the little, like, again,
- 42:48Speaker 2: reboot of Ghostbusters. And all these texts and posts about,
- 42:53Speaker 2: I got all choked up in the theater. It brought
- 42:55Speaker 2: back all these feelings. And I'm like, eh, whatever. I
- 42:57Speaker 2: like Ghostbusters, but whatever. Like, I just kind of blew
- 43:00Speaker 2: it off. And then I got to this one and
- 43:02Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, I get it.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I know.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Because there was Midway In and I was just like, No,
- 43:08Speaker 2: this is it. This is why, like, this is why
- 43:10Speaker 2: I'm at these horror movies. And, like, you get to
- 43:14Speaker 2: the recall speech, and I'm just, like, hearing a character
- 43:18Speaker 2: as dorky as I am just rambling on to their
- 43:21Speaker 2: friends about how important this horror movie is. And I'm
- 43:24Speaker 2: just like, no, this is it, man.
- 43:26Speaker 7: I understand.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Getting book-climbed in the theater.
- 43:29Speaker 5: They even brought up movies that we have talked about.
- 43:32Speaker 5: specifically black Christmas.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 43:34Speaker 5: And I was like, we, cause we have our own love,
- 43:36Speaker 5: hate relationship with that franchise. And we were like, we
- 43:40Speaker 5: just talked about that.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Well, and they do, they, they fire off so many there.
- 43:46Speaker 2: And I'm like, yeah, yeah. I was like, it all like,
- 43:48Speaker 2: you can't argue with any of this. Like it's a
- 43:50Speaker 2: very sound discussion they have there because I'm like so
- 43:54Speaker 2: much of that really, especially that first one is like
- 43:57Speaker 2: just laid out perfectly that I'm like, Okay, I have
- 44:00Speaker 2: to like her. Regardless, she's got this much schooled into
- 44:05Speaker 2: her DNA, which, again, she is a randy kid. Yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 2: it is interesting that they launch into that, and so
- 44:12Speaker 2: much of that makes everything else kind of fall into
- 44:16Speaker 2: place eventually. Because the movie itself is self-aware, you in
- 44:20Speaker 2: the audience have to be kind of self-aware of like, okay,
- 44:22Speaker 2: this is what they're doing. on purpose and within the
- 44:25Speaker 2: plot you know it's like they are toying with both
- 44:28Speaker 2: ends of this.
- 44:29Speaker 5: They're actually telling me the audience member you don't like
- 44:34Speaker 5: anything that hollywood does anymore and you all you want
- 44:37Speaker 5: is for hollywood to do the same old thing but
- 44:39Speaker 5: then you bitch about when they do the same old thing.
- 44:42Speaker 1: So here you go I was like grinning through that
- 44:46Speaker 1: entire scene. I was just like, it's so good. I'm like,
- 44:48Speaker 1: this is what we sound like.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I'm telling you.
- 44:50Speaker 1: This is what I sound like anytime someone's like, you
- 44:52Speaker 1: don't seem like you'd be really into horror movies. And
- 44:55Speaker 1: then I just go off.
- 44:56Speaker 5: I'm just like, yes.
- 44:57Speaker 2: You give them a little speech like that and they're like, whatever,
- 45:00Speaker 2: I quit listening. I know, exactly.
- 45:02Speaker 1: It's like you either are like, yes, or you're just like, okay.
- 45:06Speaker 2: That was me yesterday. She went into it again because
- 45:09Speaker 2: I knew it was coming. I was just like.
- 45:12Speaker 5: This is the greatest thing ever.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I love her. Mindy. Mindy.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Geeks talking movies.
- 45:17Speaker 6: That's my thing.
- 45:19Speaker 2: So, but yeah, so much of that made sense. And
- 45:22Speaker 2: then like, that's why, like, I think that's one of
- 45:24Speaker 2: the first things, like when I sent that text out,
- 45:27Speaker 2: I was like, okay, I just need, I just saw this.
- 45:29Speaker 5: I need to talk to somebody.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Cause I'm like, it is so, I feel like a
- 45:34Speaker 2: lot of that is just flat out Halloween. Like it
- 45:38Speaker 2: is just nailing everything about that book. reboot, recalling of Halloween.
- 45:46Speaker 2: So much of it, I'm like, yeah. Of all the
- 45:49Speaker 2: things that we were upset about, I'm like, this is it,
- 45:51Speaker 2: and this is why, and this is exactly pinpointing what
- 45:55Speaker 2: they did to try to make everything work, and sometimes
- 45:57Speaker 2: it does, and sometimes it doesn't.
- 45:59Speaker 5: When I was watching it, Halloween definitely came up a
- 46:02Speaker 5: lot in my mind. I'm thinking this is where Halloween
- 46:06Speaker 5: went off the rails, or did it completely wrong, or
- 46:10Speaker 5: Kinda did it right.
- 46:11Speaker 2: You know, that's what I was going to ask you guys.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Cause I'm not even sure. I'm like, I'm watching this
- 46:16Speaker 2: and I'm really enjoying this movie, but I'm like, what
- 46:19Speaker 2: is this doing differently than the others? Other than being
- 46:23Speaker 2: self-aware about it all. But that I think couldn't totally
- 46:26Speaker 2: save it on its own. I think there's something else
- 46:29Speaker 2: going on that like somehow this one, other than all
- 46:33Speaker 2: the ones she rattled off. And I'm like, yeah, nobody
- 46:35Speaker 2: liked that.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Nobody. All right. And I was like, so why is it?
- 46:37Speaker 2: I'm sitting here enjoying this one. When all of your
- 46:40Speaker 2: examples should prove you right and that nobody would like this.
- 46:43Speaker 2: But I'm totally enjoying it. Can we figure out why?
- 46:48Speaker 2: What the difference is?
- 46:49Speaker 5: I think a small part of it is they looked
- 46:51Speaker 5: at the original and said, okay, what worked? What did
- 46:53Speaker 5: people like? What can we do that we're not totally
- 46:57Speaker 5: copying that?
- 46:58Speaker 2: Which is hard. Five times. It's four times I've already
- 47:02Speaker 2: come along.
- 47:03Speaker 5: And how do we give it just enough of a
- 47:05Speaker 5: twist so that it's different enough and that people still
- 47:09Speaker 5: like it? But we're not so far into left field
- 47:11Speaker 5: that people are just like, what the hell? Yeah, and
- 47:14Speaker 5: I think there's more to it than that.
- 47:18Speaker 1: We walked out of this and I was like, I
- 47:20Speaker 1: loved it. And my boyfriend didn't really like it. Did
- 47:23Speaker 1: he like the first one?
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 47:26Speaker 1: And so that was kind of like, as we were
- 47:28Speaker 1: driving home, I'm like, Well, why not? And I'm like, wait,
- 47:32Speaker 1: should I also not like it? Am I being dumb
- 47:34Speaker 1: for liking it? Or are you being dumb because you
- 47:36Speaker 1: didn't get it? So that's been my entire thought process
- 47:41Speaker 1: with this movie.
- 47:42Speaker 5: Two things I could possibly see where he doesn't, may
- 47:45Speaker 5: not have liked it. And that's when they get away
- 47:48Speaker 5: from Okay, somebody just got attacked or who did this
- 47:52Speaker 5: or somebody is being attacked. They get away from that
- 47:55Speaker 5: and the movie just slows way down when it starts
- 47:59Speaker 5: to go into like its little subplots or whatever. And
- 48:02Speaker 5: then two, there's really not a lot.
- 48:04Speaker 3: Of character development in this movie.
- 48:06Speaker 1: That's true.
- 48:07Speaker 5: Apart from the first girl and her sister, you know,
- 48:11Speaker 5: there's a little bit there. And Dewey we get like,
- 48:15Speaker 5: we learn a lot of new things about Dewey. But
- 48:18Speaker 5: other than that, it's like, I don't care. Even the twins,
- 48:20Speaker 5: like I like the twins, especially the girl like you
- 48:23Speaker 5: were just talking about. Even them, I was like, I
- 48:26Speaker 5: don't care if any of these characters live or die.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Which is pretty standard for a horror movie. So again,
- 48:31Speaker 2: I don't know. Because they've done that with a lot
- 48:35Speaker 2: of them. There are several of the sequels that I'm
- 48:38Speaker 2: just like, I didn't. Like, it seems random by the
- 48:41Speaker 2: time they get to the finale. I'm like, I don't know.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I didn't even care who these people were, and now
- 48:46Speaker 2: they're the killers. So it's like, by this one, it's
- 48:49Speaker 2: like at least you spend enough time with them that
- 48:52Speaker 2: you do feel like you're playing the same game they are.
- 48:55Speaker 2: I'd be like, well, okay, so who is it? Because
- 48:57Speaker 2: it doesn't feel... As out of left field as some
- 49:00Speaker 2: of them have been. And we've at least logged in
- 49:03Speaker 2: a good amount of time with them. But we never
- 49:06Speaker 2: really spend a lot of time with anybody other than
- 49:08Speaker 2: our lead girl. And she really still doesn't get a
- 49:10Speaker 2: whole lot of development. We get her little crazy side
- 49:15Speaker 2: thing that goes on.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I think he also didn't like that. That was a
- 49:18Speaker 1: big one. He hated that.
- 49:20Speaker 5: I did not like like i was fine with her
- 49:22Speaker 5: being billy's daughter i did not like the little.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Hallucinations of her i don't know how i still don't
- 49:30Speaker 1: know how i felt.
- 49:31Speaker 5: About number one you can keep skeet all rich you
- 49:36Speaker 5: know his You know, his bad boy good looks and
- 49:39Speaker 5: his not that bad of an actor. I forgot where
- 49:42Speaker 5: I was going.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but now he's like dad version.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I know.
- 49:46Speaker 2: They had to CG him up. So it's like, remember
- 49:48Speaker 2: 25 years ago when I was that guy?
- 49:50Speaker 5: They had to Princess Leia him up.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:53Speaker 5: But yeah, I thought the whole, oh, I'm going to
- 49:55Speaker 5: talk to my dead dad.
- 49:57Speaker 2: I mean, I liked it as an idea. Like, it's
- 50:01Speaker 2: interesting that they did go full CG and put him
- 50:03Speaker 2: there in the scene with her. it would be more
- 50:06Speaker 2: interesting if she was just sort of having conversations with
- 50:09Speaker 2: herself so that you that's true because it changes the
- 50:12Speaker 2: perspective when you also see the character and it does
- 50:15Speaker 2: seem like well maybe this is a real thing that's
- 50:17Speaker 2: going on and she is channeling this you know ghost
- 50:20Speaker 2: of her dead dad there is maybe some sort of
- 50:23Speaker 2: otherworldly thing going on versus if she's just sitting in
- 50:26Speaker 2: the car talking to herself you're like okay she is
- 50:28Speaker 2: maybe the killer because she's.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Lost but that's the thing I feel like all that
- 50:33Speaker 5: was in there to make you think oh maybe she
- 50:35Speaker 5: is and Make her not even certain. Maybe I am
- 50:37Speaker 5: killing these people and don't realize it. But I never
- 50:41Speaker 5: felt that way. I never once thought, oh, she's probably
- 50:44Speaker 5: the killer and this is why.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Again, they don't, maybe because there's so many other things
- 50:48Speaker 2: going on, they don't invest a huge amount of time
- 50:51Speaker 2: into that. It's just sort of an extra side thing
- 50:53Speaker 2: thrown in there.
- 50:54Speaker 5: I almost feel like there's another version of this movie
- 50:57Speaker 5: where they cut a lot of that out. Like there
- 50:59Speaker 5: was a lot.
- 50:59Speaker 3: More of that.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Or they're building it up for a sequel of some
- 51:03Speaker 1: sort where she kind of.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Yeah, something like that.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I think I didn't mind it. My first thought was
- 51:11Speaker 1: they were going to go with the, like, multiple personalities
- 51:14Speaker 1: and other things, so I'm really glad they didn't. I
- 51:17Speaker 1: actually liked it at the very end where.
- 51:19Speaker 2: She, you know, is in the.
- 51:21Speaker 1: is gonna have to do the big final kill, and
- 51:23Speaker 1: she sees his reflection, and then she just, like, goes ham.
- 51:26Speaker 1: I was like, yeah! My boyfriend thought that was corny.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I thought it was corny, but, like, in a great way.
- 51:31Speaker 1: I'm glad that they left that in.
- 51:33Speaker 5: It reminded me of the end of Friday the 13th,
- 51:38Speaker 5: the final chapter, where Corey Feldman kills Jason, which... To
- 51:43Speaker 5: say that out loud is very funny. But no, I
- 51:46Speaker 5: was like this at first. I was like, okay, this
- 51:48Speaker 5: is getting a little over the top. But then by
- 51:50Speaker 5: the end of it, I'm like, okay, this is awesome.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Especially when she blows his brains out.
- 51:54Speaker 2: That was my, I mean, I had so much fun. Again,
- 51:57Speaker 2: we're jumping to the end. But I was like, I
- 51:58Speaker 2: had so much fun with that. For like, because in
- 52:03Speaker 2: addition to I like the, you know, she's getting the
- 52:07Speaker 2: inspiration from our previously villain. is now like helping out
- 52:13Speaker 2: our hero.
- 52:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 52:14Speaker 2: But, and also he's dead. But in addition to that,
- 52:17Speaker 2: I do like that with it, like toying with the
- 52:20Speaker 2: concept of the horror movie, that first time watching it,
- 52:24Speaker 2: I'm just like, I tried not to yell it out
- 52:27Speaker 2: in the theater. Finally! I was like, in every movie,
- 52:30Speaker 2: we're just like, just... wail on that dead body please
- 52:34Speaker 2: yeah get this over with and like every time they're
- 52:36Speaker 2: like i shot him once i think he's dead and
- 52:39Speaker 2: then they pop back up and like the joke in
- 52:41Speaker 2: the first one was they always come back and they
- 52:43Speaker 2: shoot him in the head well here it's just like
- 52:45Speaker 2: before we even get to that point like we already
- 52:48Speaker 2: like they bypass that and be like no no she's
- 52:50Speaker 2: just gonna go off on him so like watching her
- 52:53Speaker 2: like it was i was like giddy and laughing yesterday,
- 52:57Speaker 2: which I feel like was disturbing the people around me,
- 53:00Speaker 2: because I was really happy at that scene. And so, yeah,
- 53:04Speaker 2: I had so much fun with that response, that it's
- 53:06Speaker 2: just like, this is how you end a horror movie,
- 53:09Speaker 2: even if it didn't make sense. Now, in this circumstance,
- 53:11Speaker 2: it does, but if not, like, I don't care. Like,
- 53:13Speaker 2: it is such a good finale of, like, this is
- 53:16Speaker 2: how you take out a killer in a horror movie.
- 53:17Speaker 5: In this movie, you've had, what, almost a week of
- 53:22Speaker 5: being tormented by this person, and then, of course.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Jumping into the spoiler, it turns out.
- 53:27Speaker 5: To be your boyfriend that you've been with for however long.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Who's been right beside you the whole damn time.
- 53:32Speaker 5: You are perfectly justified to take out every frustration.
- 53:37Speaker 2: And I feel like we don't get that in so
- 53:39Speaker 2: many horror movies when it would be justified. And they're
- 53:41Speaker 2: just like, well, I'm going to go talk to the
- 53:43Speaker 2: police now.
- 53:44Speaker 1: And I'm like, no.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Take that motherfucker out. Go off on them because that's
- 53:50Speaker 2: what needs to happen at this point.
- 53:52Speaker 5: This goes into another thing I've always said about horror movies.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Everybody's dead. You've got the final girl, whatever.
- 53:59Speaker 2: And it's like, well, it's over now.
- 54:01Speaker 5: Everything's good. But one of these things that the Scream
- 54:05Speaker 5: series has always stressed is like, no, it doesn't end.
- 54:08Speaker 5: Even if there's not other people coming to kill you,
- 54:10Speaker 5: you've got all this PTSD.
- 54:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:13Speaker 5: All the trauma and oh, I've lost all my, all
- 54:15Speaker 5: this grief. And, and you know, that this, that's what
- 54:19Speaker 5: was nice about this. It's like, cause she even asked,
- 54:22Speaker 5: she's like, am I going to be okay?
- 54:24Speaker 2: What I was going to say.
- 54:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 54:25Speaker 2: The fact that this super self-aware movie even has the
- 54:28Speaker 2: character self-aware of like, I'm a little messed up. Like,
- 54:32Speaker 2: am I going to be okay? And like somebody who's
- 54:34Speaker 2: been through as much shit as Sydney has is like, yeah, just,
- 54:39Speaker 2: you gotta deal with it. You gotta give it some
- 54:41Speaker 2: time and work through all this.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Her response was, it was a good, healthy response, yes, eventually.
- 54:49Speaker 5: But my response to that would have been like, no,
- 54:51Speaker 5: you are not going to be okay.
- 54:53Speaker 2: It's a rough road.
- 54:54Speaker 5: Because once all the cops and ambulances are done here,
- 54:57Speaker 5: you have to go to home, or you have to
- 54:59Speaker 5: go home and figure out how you're going to sleep
- 55:01Speaker 5: tonight and then every other night for the rest.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Of your life.
- 55:04Speaker 1: And the thing about like another thing that I think
- 55:06Speaker 1: makes this different from Halloween or something is in a
- 55:11Speaker 1: couple of years, some asshole is going to do it again.
- 55:14Speaker 1: It's going to wear that same costume and put you
- 55:16Speaker 1: through that same trauma and you're going to have to
- 55:18Speaker 1: help solve it. And so it's just like this never ending,
- 55:22Speaker 1: like societal issue as opposed to this, monolith of a
- 55:26Speaker 1: he's still unkillable or whatever but at least it's just
- 55:30Speaker 1: this one guy and you could figure out those rules
- 55:32Speaker 1: you took out here it's like you're just always well.
- 55:34Speaker 5: That's that raises a good question though and i thought
- 55:37Speaker 5: about this during the movie it's like do these people
- 55:40Speaker 5: do they not learn because all i'm talking about the
- 55:43Speaker 5: bad guys because in all of these they all end
- 55:46Speaker 5: up dead what makes them think that they're finally going
- 55:49Speaker 5: to be the one to get away with.
- 55:50Speaker 2: It Now as you're saying that, I'm thinking more of
- 55:54Speaker 2: the town. I'm like, in Woodsboro, can you get like
- 55:56Speaker 2: ghost face insurance? I feel like you should be able
- 56:00Speaker 2: to if you live there because every couple of years,
- 56:02Speaker 2: it's slashing people up again.
- 56:04Speaker 5: And what company is still making those masks? Can we
- 56:07Speaker 5: ban that costume?
- 56:08Speaker 2: Actually, there is one because if you notice, I remember
- 56:10Speaker 2: sitting there in the credits, they had to re-license that
- 56:13Speaker 2: mask well that's why the costume company bought it outright
- 56:17Speaker 2: and nobody can use that unless they go through.
- 56:20Speaker 5: Them well that's why they didn't scream that's why they
- 56:22Speaker 5: couldn't that's why they couldn't do it for the tv
- 56:24Speaker 5: show that's why they had to go with a completely
- 56:26Speaker 5: different mask but i'm saying real world and that's another
- 56:29Speaker 5: thing i want to get to they they mention they
- 56:31Speaker 5: specifically mention what you say all the time about this
- 56:35Speaker 5: sort of movie is there's no stakes but Yeah, I
- 56:39Speaker 5: feel like in the real world, the first... Okay, maybe
- 56:42Speaker 5: the first killer to wear a mask like that.
- 56:44Speaker 3: They might keep making it.
- 56:46Speaker 5: But over the second or third time, somebody's going to
- 56:48Speaker 5: demand that they pull that stuff off the shelf. And
- 56:51Speaker 5: you're not going to see it again.
- 56:53Speaker 2: At the same time, and I've liked that about, I guess,
- 56:57Speaker 2: the series. But definitely by the time we got to
- 56:58Speaker 2: that fourth one. Because the first three are within a
- 57:01Speaker 2: short amount of time. But by the time we come
- 57:03Speaker 2: back to that fourth one... it's again, it's moved on
- 57:06Speaker 2: to a new generation. So it is almost the legend
- 57:08Speaker 2: of Ghostface. So like at that point, and even in
- 57:12Speaker 2: the first three, you know, it's like anybody can be
- 57:16Speaker 2: the killer. Anybody can go get that mask. It's not
- 57:18Speaker 2: like it's something exclusive that like, well, only this guy
- 57:22Speaker 2: has it. And if he shows up, he's going to
- 57:23Speaker 2: kill you. Anybody can get that costume. Anybody can show
- 57:27Speaker 2: up and try to kill you. And it's why it
- 57:29Speaker 2: sort of perpetuates this thing every couple of years that
- 57:32Speaker 2: they even reference that too that like he's on the
- 57:35Speaker 2: phone going yeah every few years somebody you know some
- 57:37Speaker 2: idiot puts a mask on she said every decade people
- 57:39Speaker 2: again yeah yeah but even like the I was thinking
- 57:42Speaker 2: the David Arquette line that he's just like he's saying
- 57:46Speaker 2: like that's the thing this one she's needs to be
- 57:50Speaker 2: aware of because he says this one seems different So
- 57:53Speaker 2: that means there's all these other ones that are just
- 57:55Speaker 2: literally some idiot that like probably got shot by the
- 57:58Speaker 2: police and is like just put on a ghost face
- 58:00Speaker 2: mask and was out doing something stupid or has killed somebody,
- 58:03Speaker 2: but they took him out in the front yard. You know,
- 58:06Speaker 2: it's like we're only seeing the big ones like Sidney
- 58:10Speaker 2: gets involved in. But like how many other ones along
- 58:13Speaker 2: the way has been some idiot in a mask? And
- 58:15Speaker 2: I was like, is that a separate series? Is that
- 58:18Speaker 2: what happens in the scary movie series? These are the
- 58:20Speaker 2: bad idiots that put on a funny looking ghost face
- 58:23Speaker 2: mask and they just go get stoned or something.
- 58:25Speaker 1: Well, and in the previous movies, Gale becomes bigger and
- 58:31Speaker 1: bigger because she always writes another book after whatever has
- 58:34Speaker 1: happened and she makes a point in this one to say,
- 58:37Speaker 1: I'm not going to write about these two assholes. And
- 58:40Speaker 1: it made me think of, why would they do that
- 58:43Speaker 1: if they know they're just going to get killed? sadly
- 58:46Speaker 1: and darkly, it reminds me of like school shootings or
- 58:49Speaker 1: mass shootings where people know like, I'm going into this
- 58:52Speaker 1: knowing that I'm probably not going to come out, but
- 58:55Speaker 1: I'll be famous and people are going to talk about it.
- 58:57Speaker 2: And it's like, everything I did, even if it was horrible. Yeah.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Definitely gets to the fourth.
- 59:03Speaker 1: One or to prove their you know point yeah whatever
- 59:06Speaker 1: that i showed them yeah yeah okay so sadly that
- 59:12Speaker 1: our society's foot.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Which again is i think what it kind of finds
- 59:19Speaker 2: different ways to address along the ways like it it
- 59:21Speaker 2: does take on kind of bigger ideas than most slasher movies,
- 59:26Speaker 2: you know? Usually there's no thought put into that kind
- 59:29Speaker 2: of stuff, where this, like, especially as the series goes on, like,
- 59:33Speaker 2: each one starts addressing totally different things that, I don't know,
- 59:37Speaker 2: we're far enough in now, I guess we could throw out, like, the...
- 59:39Speaker 2: Because I was going through, I was like, because each one, like,
- 59:42Speaker 2: in the big killer soliloquy at the end, like, they
- 59:45Speaker 2: usually go off on what their thing is. Yeah. We
- 59:48Speaker 2: definitely have that at the end of this movie, but, like,
- 59:50Speaker 2: the first one... it's pretty pure and simple. It's like
- 59:54Speaker 2: just horror movies, you know, and it's using each of
- 59:57Speaker 2: these things is almost like using the, the thing, whatever
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: their gimmick is, whatever the reason as like a, a
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: tool to be able to exploit their own craziness. So
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: by that first movie, it's like, okay, he's, he's jealous
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: and he wants, you know, he's, It's a revenge story anyway,
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: so he's going to use this as an excuse, but
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: he can then reference, oh, the movies made me do it.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Movies make killers more creative. So it's just kind of
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: a basic version there, but each one sort of expands out.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: By that second one, they get into the judicial system.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Because our Mickey, not to spoil, I said we were
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: spoiling all of them. Mickey specifically says it's all about
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: the trial. It's like, and it's, I was like, what's
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: the timeframe on that? Looking back, it's two years after
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: the OJ verdict.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: So they're definitely coming out. He even name dropped the lawyer.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: So he's like, this is who I'm going to get to,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: you know, represent me because you can come out of anything.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: If you get the right lawyer and you put the
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: right spin on everything, you can walk away. So like,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: that's definitely looking at the judicial system in this country
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: or world over. So, I mean, they've got that. Plus
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: you work in the Mrs. Loomis aspect, which is I'm
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: sick of everybody blaming the parents. So then it's like
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: this weird parenting thing that was definitely coming into play
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: then because you have something like school shootings. Do we
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: hold the parents responsible for that? Because maybe we should.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: So like you've got people in the real world, like
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: addressing these issues. So like each time these characters sort
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: of do that, The third one's sort of the least
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: in that. It's mostly just a revenge plot. It's more
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: of a spoiled brat. You got my life and I want...
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: I didn't get what my sister got. No fair.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And the meta reference of Michael Myers and Laurie. They're
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: actually siblings.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: But it is... If anything, I guess it's more of a...
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: And that's kind of why I like the third one
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: more than most people. I like the... it's a movie.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: They're making a movie. It's a movie about them making
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: a movie about this series. So it's like the whole
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: thing is the snake eats its own tail. And I
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: like all the cheesy Hollywood references. But if there is
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: a weird, dark undercurrent of reality, it's the, the whole
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: story about her mom is very Polanski-esque. And like, so
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: it's a little like, Well, this is what Hollywood does
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: to people. This is what, you know, random kids that
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: come here, specifically young girls, and it eats them and
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: spits them out and they go back and have these
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: horrible lives after this. So, like, this is our weird
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: kind of a little bit of a commentary on that.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: Interesting. Now that I'm thinking about that, especially in light of.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: Harvey weinstein and the fact that that.
- 1:02:36Speaker 9: Was that he backed one of his movies yeah that
- 1:02:40Speaker 9: jesus christ well i mean again not so subtle the
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: character who becomes our killer who is comes into being
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: because of that horrible scenario is named roman.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: Yeah so i guess they're not subtle about it they're
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: The fourth one is maybe the first time it gets
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: really big and starts to get kind of grandiose. I
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: think the fourth and fifth wrap-ups are very much of
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: the same kind of a thing because the fourth one
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: is just fandom. It is just how to be a
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: celebrity at any cost. And that's the thing is you
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: don't have to do anything. You don't have to accomplish anything.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: All you have to do is be out there and
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: have fans. Like, that's all it takes is just getting
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: seen and people which pay attention to you.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: And that's all people want. Which is interesting. I know
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: that was a thing at the time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: But how that's.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: Become so much more of a thing now.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: That's what's amazing is, like, they were still kind of
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: on the edge of that wave. And, like, now it's
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: just normal. It's just reality. It is everything that goes on.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: around us. So yeah, so much of that fourth one
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: is just a much bigger comment on not even like,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I don't even care about you. It's just you are famous.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: So I want to be you so I can take
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: all of this attention. And again, not really even do
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: anything like she has no goals.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: She's just like.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: I just want to be famous. And then I don't
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: have to go through this normal workaday bullshit. I can
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: just do whatever the hell I want, even if it
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: means murdering people to get there.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Including her own mother.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Including her own mother. Her own family didn't care. So, yeah,
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: that one definitely gets a much bigger comment, I feel like.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: And then that's... This one is mostly just... It's that
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: same idea, only focused on fandom. Specifically geek fandom and
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: how whiny and bitchy the internet people have become. And, like,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: what if we took those characters and just made them
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: killers in a movie? And, like, here you go. It's
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: exactly this wrap-up. Yeah.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: And they.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: I mean, they... Like, again, I like that whole... ending
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: from that angle because there's so much that both of
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: our characters say that's exactly just straight off of the
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: internet like it is just word for word out of
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: some chat room somewhere that is like well they nailed.
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: The the youtube reviews too like and i thought it
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: was funny when they showed ghost face with a flamethrower
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: and the shiny silver version of the yeah.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Yeah Well, and they mentioned the horror subreddit, which I'm
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: on all the time.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: So I was like, uh. You're part of the problem.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Exactly. I'm like, maybe that's why I liked it so much.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Because I was like, well, I can't not like it.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Because they're talking to me. No, I mean, but I
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: try not to be. as whitey as people are on there.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: I don't think you've been so disgusted with a sequel
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: that you've gone out and murdered people so that the
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: next sequel will be better.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: But she does a lot of things when she's not
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: over here on the show.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: I also feel like, unlike our ghost face killers, you'd
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: probably get away with it a little bit better.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: I know enough from all my true crime podcasts. But yeah,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: you do see stuff on there all the time of
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: people just being so toxic. And it's just like, why?
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: It's just a movie.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: I mean, really.
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: The phrase, this ruined my childhood. They bring that up?
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: That's not a joke. That's everywhere.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: Every time. And no matter how ridiculous the thing is
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: that they've remade or made a sequel to or whatever
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: they've done, even if it's a much lesser property that
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: you wouldn't think anybody would care about, somebody out there
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: is so upset about it. Yeah. And so angry that
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: like this almost isn't that far removed from the kind
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: of stuff that people would do.
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: I have seen sequels and reboots of things I loved
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: as a kid. And yes, I was a little disappointed,
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: but I'd like to think that I wasn't. It didn't
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: end my world.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: No.
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: But I know that there are people out there, probably
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: people listening, who are probably very mad at me right
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: now for calling them out on it.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: We're talking to you.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Chill out.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: I mean, it is.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Like, it is so much of that is, that's, again,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: why I liked it so much. It's just nailing everything
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: that's being said and kind of finding the way to
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: you know put an artistic spin on it be like
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: well what if we took that worked it into our
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: movie and then had a way for these characters to
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: try to defend themselves with the stuff that like they're
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: saying the stuff that you've probably said on the internet
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: in some way shape or form before you've been that
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: toxic about something before so Now suddenly it's like, Oh God,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: am I that? Have I crossed over that far? I'm
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: not murdering people yet, but I'm pretty.
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: Bitchy about it.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: So it's like, where's the dividing line? So I don't know. I, I,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: that's kind of why I liked what it wrapped up with,
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: because again, it's so meta. It's like what scream has
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: done best from the beginning. And like, It found a
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: way to still stay true to that version of the
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: horror fandom from the first movie. But just in that
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: 25 years, so much of the toxic fandom has just
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: so increased. It's such an unhealthy level that it makes
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: and breaks movies that are being made. It's like the
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: things that got Greenwood were so... trashed by people that
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: they immediately pull the rug out from under and like
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: oh yeah well we can't do that because bitchy people
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: on the internet came along I do like that they
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: specifically made stab 8 directed by our the knives out
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: guy as they put it yeah and I'm like alright
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: that's a different genre but yeah you guys are 100%
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: on that one they lost their shit when he made
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: a movie that they didn't approve of and like Tell
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: me people in that fandom wouldn't be almost this insane. Like,
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: they got so worked up over that. Like, to the
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: point they're writing to the studio that they want them
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: to remake that movie immediately. Oh, yeah. They wanted to
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: wipe it out of context. and give us a new
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: sequel to replace that one that we didn't like and
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: i'm like calm down get over yourself you are not
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: that important well.
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: That's what they did with the freaking um game of
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: thrones oh gosh no We demand you to remake the finale.
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: It's like, why? You didn't like it? That sucks.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Rabbit fandom. It's out of control. Again, the end of
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: this might seem ridiculous to some people, but I'm like,
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: I don't think so either.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: It's taken an extra notch maybe, but for the most part,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: it's Pretty word for word accurate as to things going
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: on on the internet right now.
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: I want to look, it probably won't be very hard,
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: but I want to look.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: And see on the internet who is.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Upset that this movie is calling out that people are
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: upset about reboots and sequels and what have you.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Again, it's like the snake eating itself.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: But how mad can you be at them? Because they're
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: doing it in their own movie, which is that.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: There's got to be somebody, probably right now as we
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: record this, going on.
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: About how they say that the fans don't deserve what
- 1:10:18Speaker 8: the fans want. And we're going to petition to have
- 1:10:23Speaker 8: them rewrite Scream 5 or whatever.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: I'm telling you, his stuff was so spot on that
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: I'm just like, it was such a whiny baby bullshit
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: that goes on when they make anything that's a popular
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: franchise or anything that they can be upset about. It's just,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: it's so frighteningly accurate.
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: I hope someone's listening to this right now getting mad
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: at us.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Typing an email.
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: They think they're so smart and clever, which we're not
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: smart and clever.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: I don't claim any of that, but I know what
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: I like. If you send us an angry email, we're
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: going to read it out loud over the podcast or
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: make fun of you, so try it.
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: The thing was about this movie, I feel like if
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: I didn't get all the extra references and all what
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: it was trying to do and if i just watched
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: it just as a horror film on its own i
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: probably would have given it a b minus which is
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: not i don't feel like that's a bad grade for
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: for what i saw but a plus on satire and
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: having your finger on the pulse of the culture that's
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: going on right now.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Which again is scream like it is what they were
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: born from and and they've been pretty consistent i was
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: thinking earlier today i was like It's maybe the most
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: consistently good series in horror. There's a lot of offshoots
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: and bad one-offs here and there that you're just like,
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: I like this one and this one, but not that one.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Even if you don't like the sequels, they're still pretty
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: solid as horror movies go.
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: I feel like 3 and 4 took a dip, but
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: I almost feel like that was their point at the
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: same time.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: I had problems.
- 1:11:59Speaker 7: Given the whole.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: This is what movies do.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I had problems with 4 as we, again,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: we've been doing this so damn long, I talked about
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: it on an episode. So, I had a lot of
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: problems with 4, but I think what's weird is, because
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: I came, again, this is what geeks on the internet do,
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: what they should do is, so I came up with
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: my entire, which I think I've told you about, my
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: entire alternate version of what should have happened in Scream 4.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: What's funny is, about half of it came around in
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: this movie. Like, I'm not saying they were listening, but
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: it is interesting that like that was my problem with four,
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: I guess more from from West more than anything, because
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: one through three is its own little arc of whatever
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: you like it or don't. But it still kind of
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: tells that same story. But because we're coming back to
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: four years later and we're sort of revisiting it and
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: trying to soft reboot it like it bothered me that
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: it was so by the book. That it stuck so
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: close in plot and overall goings-on that it never strayed away,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: which is what I was so impressed with with this one.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: It still took it so much so that they're mimicking
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: specific scenes, and yet by the end they would always
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: find a way to do something a little different that
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: made it, and sometimes massively different, like letting our initial
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: character live. It's like major differences that then affect the
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: whole rest of the plot. So it's like we didn't
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: really get any of that from 4. I feel like 4...
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: stuck so close to the formula that he'd created that
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: by the end I was like, well, there's cool stuff
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: along the way, but it didn't really do anything drastically
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: new and different and interesting. It just... But there's great
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: scenes throughout it and so much of the story I
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: still like, but I feel of any, it's like that's
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: my issue with that one.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Which is why I wanted... again to rehash my story
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: but because they kind of come back to that here
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: i i said that same thing i was like okay
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: we've already had these three movies of it's the whodunit
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: we don't know you know we spend the whole time
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: trying to figure out who it is i loved the
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: emma roberts craziness so much i wanted her to be
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: our new lead i wanted if we're gonna continue doing
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: movies i wanted it to change perspectives almost and be
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: like okay now we're following this crazy person We're doing it.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: I said it's always like switching gears to like American
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Psycho style. It's like, okay, now we're watching this crazy
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: person go around and kill people. And then the more
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: I thought about it now, it's like, if we didn't
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: do that, if we got this version of Dewey, I
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: would have loved to have seen that. Because then you've got, like,
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: Dewey becomes the Loomis. That's like, he's the only, because
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: I said it the other way, like, kill off the
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: other characters. You can leave Dewey injured, like he is
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: in the end of every other sequel, and, like, have him, like,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: shuffling along, trying to find the killer in the rest
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: of these movies they decide to make in the future. Like,
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: that seemed like a cool, totally different take to do
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: with it. So, they did not do that at all
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: in the fourth one. But we do, when you come
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: back to this one, they did change up so much
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: of that that they even, first of all, called themselves out,
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: once again, at the end, that that's the problem with
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: the Scream franchise is there's no villain. There is no
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Michael Myers. It's any idiot in a mask can be
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: our wrap-up at the end. So that's kind of that
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: same problem I said with the fourth one. And then
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: I was like, well, but now we have given our
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: lead girl is... kind of a murderer yeah definitely by
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: the end oh yeah potentially as crazy as the people
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: doing the murders so it's like they did sort of
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: hand it off to somebody who is a little crazy
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: so we don't get it quite the same she's still
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: sort of our final girl ish but yeah I don't
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: know I thought it was interesting that they do vary
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: things up sort of along those lines to give us
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: something different and again that's why I took to this
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: one so much better than the fourth.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: Yeah Well, this movie, too, I had so many preconceived,
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: not even preconceived notions, but concerns going into it. It's like, oh,
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: here's another one of these. Is it going to be
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: a sequel? Is it going to be a reboot? Is
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: it going to be both? And they addressed all of that.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: Like, very quickly and they were like, don't worry about it.
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: This is what's going to happen. Just enjoy it.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: And I thank them for that.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Well, and again, that's what I said about four. I
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: was like, it's... it's ridiculous that these three characters have
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: been through all of this and somehow still keep surviving.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: So I was like, I said that, that last one,
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: I was like, Wes needs to start off in these
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: old school characters. Like he's done it in the other sequels.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: Where's Randy at now? We took him out pretty quick,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: but like the same three, we keep dragging back. And
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: by the end of the fourth one, they're all okay again.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: So I'm like this time, Oh. They took out one
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: of the main three. And I was like, that's, I mean,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: it's the one I didn't want him to, but. Yeah.
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: Well, I knew. I knew as soon as he was like,
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: I got to go back and change.
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this is it.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: I was like, here's a series wrap on Dewey.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: And that scene did, probably the only one out of
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: the movie that pissed me off.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Because I was like, he should know. He's the one
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: out of everybody to know to just like do that
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: real quick. And for some reason it was just so slow.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: And you were just like, God. damn it i know
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: what's gonna happen but i feel like he should have
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: known and he i don't know if it was a
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: lapse of judgment or like what but it was just
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: so slow and i was like damn.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: It but yeah i wanted to off gail last movie
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: and i thought it would have been a really interesting
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: way to wrap up that fourth one is killing sydney
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Because again, I felt like it was sort of rehashed
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: to have her back as the main girl being attacked
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: all the time by that fourth one. I'm like, we've
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: changed it up. We brought in all these new characters
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: and yet we're still right back to just her being
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: attacked as the main girl the whole time. Something like
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: that fourth one just feels like it's trying to do
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: something different but not very much. Whereas this one, we
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: totally hand it off. It is full on Even the
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: way they reference. It's the Star Wars. We're going to
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: have Han Solo come in, but he'll just hang out
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: over there for a little while. We've got this new
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: girl we're going to stick with. So it totally does that.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Sydney's not really... I mean, she's introduced briefly in the beginning,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: but we don't get her until halfway into the movie.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: So it's like she's not a main part of what's
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: going on, really. I do like if they continue on
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: in this way... I do like that she just sort
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: of becomes like... Because even now, I like... And it
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: was supposedly Nev's line of like, yeah, I'm Sidney fucking Prescott.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: Of course I have a gun. So I like that
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: she shows up packing heat and she's just like... This
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: will be her role in everything. She just becomes Charles
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: Bronson in these movies. She's just like, we're having a problem.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: And she's like, I'm here to take care of things.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: These damn punks and ghost faces running around. I'll take
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: care of them.
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: One kind of, because we talk about real world issues.
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: One thing that I never understood throughout this entire movie,
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: especially with how fast the media is on everything.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: When there's a new murder in Woodborough, and it could
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: possibly be related to all of this, why is the
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: media and all of the law enforcement channels, why are
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: they not on the phone to Sidney and Gail and
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: Dewey right away? Because they've been involved in all of this.
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: mean i think what part do you start suspecting.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Those i think they probably are and they especially sydney
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: wants nothing to do with anybody even by that second
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: movie she's just like already like put herself away from
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: the world by that second movie so like and dewey
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: you can tell isn't a people person so like he
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: wants so the only one that buys into it is
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: gail and you see she's writing books she's on talk
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: shows like she's gonna be Always feeding off that as, again,
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: the character I don't really like of the three.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: Let's look at this, just a little off left field here,
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: but let's look at this like an episode of Murder.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: She Wrote.
- 1:20:08Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: The pinnacle of all horror writing.
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: But let's say Jessica Fletcher is involved in all of this.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: The author who is profiting off all these murders would
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: be the first person she would look at. And nobody
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: does that in any of these. I know this is
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: a weird tangent, but it does bother me.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: That makes me now want to start spinning this into
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: other versions of it. Because we've got this Sydney just
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: hanging around, I was like, instead of Murder Street Road,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: I'm going Columbo. Can she just come in and be like, okay.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: One more thing. Now, was your boyfriend, did you just
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: meet him like in the last six months or so?
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Like she can pull out the questions.
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: She did pull out the questions. Nobody thought to ask.
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: It's like, how well do you know this guy?
- 1:20:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Except Dewey. Beginning, same thing he asked.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Well, I do feel like he was giving himself away.
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: And I kept thinking, no, maybe it's nothing or maybe
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: it is something. But he mentioned Dewey wasn't. wasn't that
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: way in the.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Movies and i was like you.
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: Just said you hadn't saw any of them and then
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: you watched one of them in the hospital.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Which again maybe was not by accident yeah maybe that's
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: planted in the screenplay on purpose by our real world writers.
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: And then the other thing too where he was like
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: i'm gonna go grab a beer and i'm like no
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: you just made a big deal about how you didn't
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: want to stop at that house to get your little
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: your girlfriend's little sister's inhaler and now you're gonna stop
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: and have a beer that.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: Was one of my favorite moments And again, it's the
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: geek camaraderie. When he says, I'll be right back, and
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: then she's on the couch, and there's just that, ah, ah.
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Nobody else in the world would get what's going on
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: there except the geeks. And we've already established they're both
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: geeky enough to be like, ah, shit, I did it.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: So I loved that moment as the movie geek. And again,
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: it's camaraderie with people on the screen. It does a
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: nice job of including you in the geekery going on.
- 1:22:09Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: I love that part. I did, as far as the
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: boyfriend and the revealing stuff, that was another reason. Because
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: it's rare that I go back and see a movie
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: again in the theater. Number one, because I'm poor. Number two,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: because half the time I'm like, well, I just want
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: to go watch something else. I've seen that one, I
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: want to go see something else. But specifically, because we
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: were going to talk about this, and I was like,
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: knowing it's a whodunit, knowing it is going to be
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: a big reveal of someone who's there the whole time
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: watching it that second time changes things a little bit
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: because you kind of know what you're looking for and
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: so there is every moment where the boyfriend is questioning
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: things that were like well you know plus then i'm
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: playing the game of who's in the costume each time
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: because i'm like well i know he's driving with her
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: so it's got to be her killing this person But
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: then there's other times I'm like, she's with the sister now,
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: so he's got to be in the costume. So you
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: can pinpoint way more of that when you know what
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: you're looking for. But the thing that was interesting was
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: he's very... When we get to that Dewey scene in
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: the hospital, when he shoots Ghostface... And he's like, come on,
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: and he starts dragging the boyfriend. He's, like, super concerned
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: about Ghostface that only we see because Dewey's behind him
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: pulling him. And he's like, oh, God, is she dead? Like,
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: did he just kill my girlfriend? Like, you maybe didn't
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: notice the first time through, but watching it again, he
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: is waiting. Because even when they get to the elevator,
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: he keeps looking back like, is she dead? Like, did
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: my girlfriend just die? So that's a fun little revisit moment.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: There's several others, but that one seemed very obvious.
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: This is kind of like rewatching Fight Club.
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: You're like, wait a minute. It's all coming together now.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: That's what I feel like was another thing that was
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: great about this movie is that the formula, it's the
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: same formula always.
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: And so as you're watching it, you're always like, well,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I know what to look out for. Like, I know
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: how to pick it. And I still was so surprised
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: when it was revealed. I was like, oh, I forgot
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: that I was even trying to figure out, like, who
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: it was. It's like sleight of hand. Like, there's so
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: many other things going on that you're focusing on this thing.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: And then someone pulls out a gun and shoots your
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: friend in the head.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: And you're like, what the fuck?
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: In the theater, I was like, oh, my God. I
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: just was not expecting that at that moment.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: That was the other. I was trying to remember. I
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: was like, what happened to Liv anyway?
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: And it's like, you should always know from the first
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: one to not trust the boyfriend. But he was just
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: so sweet and seemed supportive and concerned. And I kept
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: having moments where I was like, no, I don't know.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: There's something a little weird. But I'd always go back to, no,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: it's not him. And then it was him.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: It can't be him. He looks too much like Dennis Quaid.
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: He's such a cutie. I think I was just blinded.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: That's what all the... online stuff they keep making I
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: mean his mom is Meg Ryan in the first one
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: they make a Meg Ryan of their bajillion movie references
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: she's like a young Meg Ryan so Sidney's like his mom.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: I was kind of suspecting our Amber girl from the
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: beginning though just cause she gave me weird vibes.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: There was something off about her there's my question has
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: everyone here and or listening seen Once Upon a Time
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: in Hollywood I have not.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: No, but I did know the connection.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: Well, then I won't.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Go into it. But let me just say, you'll find
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: it really amusing when you get through that movie. It's
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: a very different approach. Because I sat there going, I
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: know I know her from something. And then, like, I'm like, oh, yeah. Wait. Like,
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: what the?
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: So.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: By the end, it's, yeah, it's a very different experience
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: once you've watched both of these movies. Yeah. And had
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: to be really purposefully done based on what's going on
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: in that movie versus what happens in our movie. Because this,
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like this was an ancient movie
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: they're pulling from. It just happened a couple of years ago.
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: So these, our directors here had to have been like, yeah,
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: we're going to put this in just for fun. It's
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: going to be an extra little bonus for the audience
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: that just went and saw that movie.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, she's beautiful, but there's something weirdly sinister about her. Oh,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: very much so.
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: Something creepy about her.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Like, okay. And the hand sanitizer usage, of course, was great.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: Who doesn't do that at this point?
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Weaponizing the hand sanitizer, yeah.
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: Well, I think that's part of it, though, when you
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: were saying trying to figure out who did what. It
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: catches you off guard because they're almost so good at
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: leading you down the path for everyone. That's what I said.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: I was like, wait, what happened to Liv? And I
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: was trying to figure out what it was that happened
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: to her because I'd forgotten. She gets her head blown off. Yeah.
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: But.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: she does her little speech of like, well, maybe I
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: like when she gets to the twin girl on the
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: couch and like, yeah, she's playing it really creepy here.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Is she doing that? Because she is. And she's trying
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: to oversell it to throw you off the trail. And like,
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: same thing with the girls in the basement. Like it,
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: it does its own little, like, well, maybe I'm the killer.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: No, I'm the killer.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: They keep saying that they're the killer so much that
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: you're like, well, one of them is probably telling the
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: truth and was by the way. So it's just like, Eventually,
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: everybody has thrown it out so much that you're just like, well,
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: there's nobody left. They've all said they're probably the killers,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: so somebody's got to be right.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: And that's why I thought they might do the cop-out
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: and go with the older sister seeing visions thing, and
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I'm glad that they didn't.
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: I was really glad that they did not.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Thankfully, they did. i do like that is one of
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: the again of them being true like geeks for the
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: series because that's we didn't get tons into the directors
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: but like they were such big screen fans like that
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: they specific that's how they won nev over because never
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: done the fourth one and she was like i'm probably
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: done especially once west passed on it was like well
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: i mean why would i come back you know the
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: The guy who created this, you know, the one who
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: brought me into it and guided us through this first,
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: you know, series of movies is gone. I'm probably done now.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: And they wrote her this letter telling the telling her
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: like Wes Craven and Scream. The first movie is the
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: reason we made movies. It's why we wanted to be
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: horror directors. It's why we are here now. And like
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: that was so compelling. that she's like all right let
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: me see the screenplay and like it was solid as
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: we can see now so that's how they won her
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: over but you also see the how devoted they are
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: to this kind of stuff because we get versions of
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: these scenes like the basement scene is just rose going
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: to the garage like it is straight up like the
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: entire thing is just sort of mimicking that but in
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: its own again putting its own spin on it by
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: the end where we're working in that little she doesn't
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: get killed but we've got the trade-off of like maybe
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: i'm the killer so we've got that There's the porch
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: fake out. Like the one where Amber comes running out
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: and going, I'm like, we had that in the first movie.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: We've got two of them running at him. One of
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: them is a killer. One of them just got.
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: Stabbed and shot. The fact that Gail and Sidney don't
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: even fuck around. They're like, I think it's a trap.
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Seems like a trap to me. She's just like, fuck it.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: This is one of the times when it's like, it's
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: fun that this is the fifth movie in the series.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: And these two have been through every one of them.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: So it's like by now, Same thing when they pull
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: up and there's screams. They're like, yep, sounds about right.
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: This is where we always end up.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: And like Mindy on the couch watching the horror movie
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: and doing the whole, look behind you thing. That's always great.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Because that scene in and of itself the first time
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: is so geeky and self-aware that you're like, oh, this
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: is brilliant. So watching them do it again with an
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: extra layer on top of it, I'm like, oh, this
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: is amazing. Yeah.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: That's great.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: So yeah, each of those just kind of shows the
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: Scream fandom in this own franchise.
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: I even like the scene in the kitchen where Wes
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: gets murdered where they keep faking you out with, oh,
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: he's going to be behind the door.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: He has the scary music.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: Oh, he's not here.
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: Well, it's definitely going to be this time. Don't worry
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: about it. And it just keeps going. Because it got
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: to the point where it's like, okay. But then it
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: comes back around where you're like, this is the best
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: thing I've ever seen. So yeah, they're just playing with
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: you at that point. But it tells you a lot
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: about their neighbors because his mom was killed in broad
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: daylight on her front doorstep.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: That's what I thought was kind of impressive. I'm like,
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: to do a murder, like to set a murder scene
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: in broad daylight out in the front yard. I'm just like, that's...
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: like seemingly hard to shoot and make it creepy but
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: like it makes it more creepy that like there's still
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: this ghost face killer standing on your front porch in
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: the middle of the day and you still got a
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: knife in the gut so have fun with that like
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: yeah it's a lot to process and like she has
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: no time to do it she runs up the porch
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: and is already stabbed immediately and.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: That like uh Because right after I got back from
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: the movie theater, I watched Scream 3 and 4. Because
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I've seen 1 and 2 enough that I, like, know.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: But I'd only seen those maybe, like, once or twice.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: And I wasn't really paying attention. But the opening of
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: 3 is Cotton Weary gets a call from his girlfriend.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: And she's being stalked by Ghostface. And so he's driving
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: home as fast as possible and talking to the police
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: on his giant car phone. And so... The scene with
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: the mom radioing dispatch and trying to get home as
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: fast as she could, that's another repeat. Also, she's the
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: sheriff of the town now. Are there no police officers?
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I'm like, no one showed up.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: Not really. I mean, you'll notice when she gets killed,
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: the other guy comes from the hospital to the crime
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: scene because they didn't have enough guys to keep a
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: few on deck. Well, nope.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Cause hers, hers is so fast, but his, it really
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: like builds and there's a lot of tension. Cause I
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: was like, where are the cops?
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: That's what it was.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: That's I knew there was one of the scenes somebody kept.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: And I think that was one of the kids. Cause
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: that's why I could, cause she kept going. look outside
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: just just look outside because mom's dead on the porch
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: yeah like we know it but he's just looking around
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: getting plates like it's so drawn out and the girl
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: was so antsy she just just look outside she kept
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: saying it i'm like this is kind of great because
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: i can handle it but she's like newbie horror so
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: she's just like freaking out just go look outside your
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: mom's right there the killer's in the house like she's
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: just so buying into it and i'm like that's how
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: you know they're effective and what they're doing yeah this
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: girl is freaking out poor wes That's how you win
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: them over, man. I got to make sure we don't
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: get sliced up by some lunatic who saw Friday the
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: 13th and thought, you know what?
- 1:33:02Speaker 7: That Jason guy has got some pretty solid ideas.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Well, they even, again, it's so self-referential as horror goes
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: that they're constantly like making reference as if it is
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: a horror movie. They're like, first thing you do in
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: these movies is don't split up. What are you doing?
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: Which is funnier coming from the killer. He is the
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: one who says that line. And then even by the
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: end where she's, again, it's like they know they're living
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: in a horror movie. She's like, we're going to do
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: the one thing that nobody in these horror movies does.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: We're getting the fuck out of town.
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: Which still didn't help them. So I guess we eventually
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: need to get to that because I think that is
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: what totally makes this work for me where other movies don't.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Because if you'll remember, when we did the Halloween movie,
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: that was one of my main issues was how many
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: ridiculous coincidences had to happen for the things to come
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: together in that movie, which is a, I feel like
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: a legit criticism in that movie because there's no reason
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: for those things to happen. By the time you get
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: to the end of this, I'm like everything that just
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: coincidentally happened makes sense because two of our main characters
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: are constantly working to get it to a specific thing
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: in a place and all of these actions to come together.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: So not necessarily perfect, but, Way more believable than what
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: goes on in a lot of other horror movies.
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: I still don't understand what that Vince guy was doing there.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: At the bar?
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: I think he's just an asshole.
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: No, but why is he just, or unless he lived
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: in town anyway, but they made it sound like he
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: came to the town for some reason, and then 20
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: minutes later he's dead.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't really get what his purpose was.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: I think that was just to establish our series of
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: murders and how they're all connected to the original 25
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: years ago murders. Because he's... He.
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: Was somebody's brother.
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: Let's see, I wrote it down.
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: Stu's sister's kid. So he's... I guess he's the same
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: generation as those. They're like, he's fighting with the twins,
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: but he's like, Stu's his uncle and Randy's their uncle
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: so it's that same thing of like okay all these
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: kids are connected to it and one by one they're
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: getting picked off and somehow it's all connected back here
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: which again would seem more ridiculous and convoluted except when
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: you jump to the end and it's specifically orchestrated by
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: a bunch of freaking fanboys like that is specifically meant
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: to be like a dumb horror movie that these things
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: would happen in it almost gives them a pass to
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: be as ridiculous and convoluted as need be when you've
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: got a horror movie person creating a real life version
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: of what they want to be in a horror movie.
- 1:35:50Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: I liked that by the end. Cause I was like,
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: what are the odds they get to the same house?
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: And I was like, Oh, cause he led them back.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Same thing when we got there and I'm like, who
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: the hell has a party when your friend just got murdered?
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: And I get it in the first movie too. But
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: that's the, that's the joke of it is like, yeah,
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: because the first movie they were just assholes. They didn't care.
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: Stu's an idiot. Also, Stu's still the killer. So, like,
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: the fact that we come around and, like, she's in
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: that same house and is also the murderer and is
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: why she's throwing this party. Because what does she care?
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: She's the murderer. There was a great line. I don't
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: know if you guys heard it because it was one
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: of those, like, you know, you could miss it real quick.
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: But when he's flicking the lights and telling everybody to
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: go home. You can hear somebody say, somebody's dad's kicking
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: us out.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: Yeah. That was funny. Like immediately he's like, hey, Gen Z.
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Some old dude's here to ruin your fun.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: And that was like another moment where as it was happening,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: I was like, why is he staying? Why is he
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: taking this authority to kick everyone out? Like just get
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: the inhaler, you weirdo, and go. And then it's like, oh.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: Again, watching it that second time. He's also not lying.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: As the kids are filing out, he's like, I'm saving
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: your life. I'm saving your life.
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: He's the murderer.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: Like everyone who stayed either gets killed or almost got killed.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: So I'm like, he wasn't lying. He was saving their lives.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: This is about to be a bloodbath.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: So hang around. Which that is one thing I wanted
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: to get to. Because you said this would be okay
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: to bring the kids to. Granted, there was one behind me.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: So obviously there is. I felt like this was maybe
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: more gory than some.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: Certainly previous. Some of them.
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: I don't know which one.
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: I'll have to go back and compare murder to murder,
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: but this was rough in the gore department.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: I don't feel like it was as gory as some
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: movies we've seen recently.
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: Definitely not as gory. Yeah.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: I feel like they were really kind of up and
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: at a notch to be a little self-indulgent in how
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: gory the murder scenes were.
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: I mean, the opening scene where the girl gets a
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: knife through her hand.
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: Ugh.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: I think the leg break is maybe the.
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: I was like, oh, God. Yeah. Wes's death is pretty slow.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: I mean, the knife through part of the neck is
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: what creeps you out. Just that little shoving it through
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: and out the other side.
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: Dewey's is slow.
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: Dewey's was slow, yeah.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: Dewey's was just gutting him. I was like that.
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: And that's one of those. Well, then you hear the
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: splash of his innards falling out.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Well, that's once again almost them spiking the touchdown. It's
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: just like, okay, we're not going to kill these three characters.
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: We're not going to kill... Oh, no, he ain't coming
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: back from this. It's just like, nope, we're taking him
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: out and we're taking him out in the worst possible
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: way where there's no saving him. His guts are on
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: the floor now.
- 1:38:43Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the one I was like, nope, they're
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: doing it. They're writing him out. So... But, yeah, some
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: of those, or even our big finale. Like, again, I
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: love her.
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: The knife goes through his face.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: I love her wailing on the guy anyway. But that last,
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: where's my ending? You know, here it comes.
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: Here it comes. That knife through the throat is just, like,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: extra indulgent in how gory they wanted it to be. So,
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. Again, I was giggling and laughing, so.
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: I concern the people in the next role.
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: One thing I liked about this movie that you never
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: see in movies, whether it be horror or action or whatever,
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: when people are attacked in this movie, they fall down.
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: They're actually hurt. The big scene, this isn't the only one,
- 1:39:30Speaker 5: but the big scene is where she's in the hospital
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: and she gets out of her bed and tries to
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: get in the wheelchair. She's screaming in pain all the time.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: Well, and that gets us back to my running theme
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: of horror movie hospital.
- 1:39:43Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: Which, again, the first time I just sort of thought
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: that and then went on and didn't think about it anymore.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: I just like, oh, here we go. We're back in
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: another hospital and it's going to be dark and creepy
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: and nobody's going to be around. Watching it again this time,
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: I was like, our sheriff did specifically say we can
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: get her her own floor. That's why nobody, because then
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: I guess nobody can show up and murder you. Except
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: the one person who does show up to murder you,
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: and then there's nobody around to save you.
- 1:40:09Speaker 5: You know, when you take the cops off that to
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: go to the sheriff's house, yeah.
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: And that's the thing. If there were police protection and
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: you were on your own floor, I guess that would
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: make sense. But there are cops there who aren't real good,
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: and one of them left.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: And the one security guard they had was horribly murdered.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: That didn't work out so well. But yeah, that was
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: kind of that same super creepy hospital scene.
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: That was one of the problems I had with Halloween
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: Kills is she wakes up from surgery where she just
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: had her guts put back in. And then 20 minutes
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: later she's like, I gotta get this guy! And it's like, no.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: No.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: You wouldn't be able to move. You wouldn't be able
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: to breathe. And so when they showed her in the
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: wheelchair like crying as she's trying to move, like.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: Two feet. And just blood pouring out of her hand
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: as she ripped open all of her wounds.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: I've felt for her so hard.
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: Yeah, but at the same time, I was like, finally. Yeah.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: Again, she sells it, like, points to Jenna. Like, those scenes,
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: and by the end, like, everything she does is just really,
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: totally believable.
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Like, is an extra level above the rest of our cast,
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: which are all good, but I'm just like, she just nails, like,
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: so much of what they're putting this poor kid through, and... So, again,
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: to jump to where she's just wailing on that girl
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: with her crutch. Yeah. After he already made fun of
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: her gippy little sister. And like, well, she's doing pretty
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: good for a busted up girl that's been through hell
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: and back.
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: Well, that's what I like about her. She has been
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: through some shit. And she is never the damsel in distress.
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: No.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: And she showed up to rescue them and then rescue
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: them again. Blow a head off a final girl.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: But it's still a realistic level of.
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: This has to be.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: Done yeah yeah i did notice again going back through
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: the ties to the original movie once again mom is
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: conveniently gone yeah the entire run of which i guess
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: there was a reason the first movie but somehow dad
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: was conveniently gone the whole first movie no it made
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: sense by the end but like this one we didn't
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: even get a reason she was just like she's at
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: a conference or something i don't know we wrote her
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: out of the plot who cares That.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Was kind of weird.
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: Because she's still, what, how old is she? She's still
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: pretty young.
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: She might be 15, maybe.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: If that, yeah. I was like, she reads pretty young
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: to just go off and leave. And obviously your big
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: sister is not taking care of you because she ditched you, so.
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: I mean, I get that it's going to take like,
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: I don't know how long, but a long time to
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: get from London to California.
- 1:42:38Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: But at least try to come home if your daughter
- 1:42:42Speaker 5: has been stabbed repeatedly.
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: Yeah. that's true that was yeah mom's just gone for
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: the run of the movie.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Huh maybe we'll see more of her in a sequel
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: requel sequel i'd be fine if we didn't though yeah
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: that's okay it could.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Go either way i mean they really leave it totally
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: open where if this is the capping things off we
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: get that and it works But they leave so much
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: there of like, now we have our new lead girl
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: if we want it. Plus she could maybe be crazy
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: and we could have nothing but a weird ghost skeet
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: guiding her around the country to go murder people or
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: save people.
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: I don't know which.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: The phrase ghost skeet.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: You know, once again, type that into Google and see
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: what you get. So.
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: I want to, but I'm afraid.
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: Don't really do that, guys.
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: Or if you're into it, go for it.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: There's something out there for everyone.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: I guarantee there's something waiting for you.
- 1:43:48Speaker 5: If you do, how's this? If anyone does type that in,
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: please give us a three word description of what you find.
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: That's all I ask.
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: Or three paragraph. Because we'll probably read it on the air.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: Your inbox is going to be weird after this episode.
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: Oh, it already is. Usually it's just junk, but occasionally
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: maybe I'll get something good now. I do like that
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: they even address themselves in the movie. Like I said,
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: it's ridiculous that Sidney's still around after all of these movies.
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: But like he specifically says in our movie, it would
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: be ridiculous for you to survive. So we're obviously going
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: to have to kill you. I'm like, well, and it
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: kind of is. And yet here we are.
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: So.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: I was thinking that as I was going back over
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: the movies and the finale on each of the movies,
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: listening to their crazy speech every time. In each one,
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: Sidney's also been, like, horribly injured.
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: I was like, by this fifth movie, when they go
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: to stab her in the gut, it should just, like, clank.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: It should just be such scar tissue. And it just
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: stops the blade at this point.
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: Even Dewey says, I've got nerve damage. I walk with
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: a limp. I don't want any more.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: I've had enough, guys. So, like, all three of them.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: Because each movie, they all get injured.
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: Mm.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: But this one, that's the other thing I was going
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: to say I really love about the big finale is
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: like they don't disappoint. Everybody is horribly injured. Like there's
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: not like one or two people like they're all stabbed, shot.
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: They're all massively bleeding. The good guys, the bad guys,
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: everybody in the middle of the fight is still horribly
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: injured and bleeding and just sort of limping around, still
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: fighting with each other.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: Well, I feel like they missed an opportunity for when
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: Gail gets shot in the stomach again. She should have
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: just been like, again?
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: Seriously?
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: Damn it, again? But that's what I'm saying. The bullet
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: should just bounce off at this point. Like, I've got
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: 25 years of scar tissue, you know. It's not even
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: going to hurt anymore.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: I do love that they gave Sydney like a baby
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: and a husband. And it was the detective.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: From screen three. I was going to say, it's three.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: We get the old Patrick Dempsey. Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark.
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: As much as I didn't used to like Patrick Dempsey,
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: that movie is the one that kind of turned it
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: for me. I was like, when he was a dumb
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: teenager making his dumb teenager movies, I was like, oh,
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: this kid gets on my nerves. And by the time
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: he grew up a little bit and was in Scream 3,
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: I was like, all right, I don't hate this guy.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: So I'm like, I'm okay that she ended up with him.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: So good. He's watching the kids somewhere. With a gun,
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: I'm assuming. He is a cop, or was.
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he should have gone with her, probably. That's all right.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Somebody's got to stay with the baby.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: As long as she's got a gun.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: Again, I like- At least try to talk her out
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: of not going.
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: I like Sydney just traveling around the country with a gun,
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: waiting to shoot some serial killers. Again, I like that
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: as our spinoff in the future. Maybe we don't even
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: make more Scream. We just get the Sydney stories as
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: she goes and gets kind of involved in wacky murders
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: or travels around and shoots people.
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: I would watch that.
- 1:46:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: As much as I hate that they killed Dewey because
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: I love him so much, I think that was a
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: good way to... I mean, before that with him calling
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: them and being like, don't come here.
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: Like, that's a good friend to be like, I'll put
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: myself in... Please stay away. And so, you know, they
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: had to have some way to get them to come back.
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: So I guess... It's.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Also sad that we didn't, at least on screen, we
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: didn't get a Sidney and Dewey reunion.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: Like, she only shows up because he gets killed. So like...
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: much as we get the freaking Gale back again like
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: I kind of would like to see those two because
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: they they've been through a lot you know the Gale
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: and Dewey thing is all just like drama you know
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: it's just like their relationships been through hell and back
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: on so many levels that like that's all that had
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: but like the because I even like that with the
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: other sequels of like when when Sydney would be back
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: again and like Dewey's like here.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: We are yeah he's just like we've.
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: Been through this a whole lot and I still not
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: even got over losing my sister. And now I've been
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: through four more of these movies. So yeah, there's, they
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: did have, I, I don't think I even noticed it,
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: but I liked that they added in, if you supposedly
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: in his trailer on the mantle is the ashes of Tatum.
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: Yeah. I saw that.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: I was like, that's nice. Cause we don't really, she
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: just sort of disappears after that first movie. Granted she's dead,
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: but they'd also don't bring her up a while. So
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: it's nice that she's at least referenced here. And, That's
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: why I said they did a good job of piecing
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: together all these movies so much that we also get
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: Martha who didn't show up till the third movie but
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: now we have this like Well, I'm just glad she's
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: still working. Yeah, I was like, she's still working somewhere
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: Heather Matarazzo.
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Princess Diaries.
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: She was a big thing for a while there. And
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: now it's like, well, good to see she at least
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: can still be in some screen movies.
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: I am assuming at some point, if there's anything that
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: ever comes of me once I've come and gone from
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: this world, if I get my own theater as a memorial,
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: even in somebody's house, you know, I know. The big
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: dorky picture of Randy on the wall.
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: But you know, she seemed pretty okay with her kids.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: Her brother has already been murdered because of this. Now
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: she's okay with her kids sitting around. Yep, figure it out, guys.
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: Just horror movie posters all on the wall. Just like, yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: this is what he died doing.
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: And they had the whole stab box set, which.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: He died doing what he loved, talking shit about movies.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: I think Uncle Randy would be so proud.
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: I think he would too, but I'm just sitting there
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: thinking if a family member of mine was murdered horribly
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: and then somebody made a franchise.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: Of horror movies based on it, I don't.
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: Know that I would have them all.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: What if you were really stoned and you wanted to watch?
- 1:49:40Speaker 5: Yes, I would have them all.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: Rent it on Amazon.
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: So, yeah, I don't know. I liked so much of
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: what they ended up doing with that big finale. Not
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: just the speeches, but the way that they took everybody
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: out and everybody's bleeding and dying. So, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: Is there anything overall that we haven't already addressed? I
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: think we've tried to cover as much as we can.
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: I think we picked this movie pretty clean.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: We didn't address the non-sex scene.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: Which was that one?
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: Where Liv finally now decided she wanted to have sex
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: with him.
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: Oh, that was great.
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: I was just like, you did that all wrong. Like, great. No,
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: you should not go have sex with her because you're
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: both going to get murdered. But I was like, that's
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: not the spin you put on it. You're supposed to
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: be like, especially in the most self-referential horror movie ever,
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: movie about it. He should be like, look, in these movies,
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: that's when everybody gets killed. We can't do it right now.
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: later i want to do it with you but not
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: right now i did like his line of i'm not
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: hilarious but i'm like that is the worst way to
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: put that dude don't do that but yeah but that's
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: but teenage.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: Boys never say the right thing yeah it was accurate.
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: Yes but i was just like you've got a perfectly
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: good reason to not have sex right now now the
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: real reason might be you're pretty sure she's the killer
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: Because she is a little creepy. Definitely the next scene out,
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: she's super creepy. I don't blame you, but yeah, that's
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: not the way to spin it, man.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: I love that.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Just be like, this is like a horror movie. What's
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: the one thing you don't do? True.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: And his little... cat and mouse scene was fun with
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: the GPS.
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: Again, just updating through technology. Yeah, it's just like now
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: you have those apps. So it's like it is. Then
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: it became like a little like, this is kind of
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: like an aliens tie in here. One of the coolest
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: thing about that movie is they have their tracking devices
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: of I'm about to get murdered by something. And this
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: is like a little solo version of that.
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: Was glad to see he made it.
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: Me too i was pretty sure he was dead i
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: was yeah well again that's sort of what they do
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: each time there's sort of some random person again because
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: everybody gets stabbed yeah like eventually you're like oh look
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: who came out that's how we got randy the first
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: time but like each time that was i like that
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: it's such a universe now they're also building on their
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: own little universe because now looking at stuff after the
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: fact it's like at the time when i wasn't paying
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: attention but When they're watching, which I also think is
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: funny that there is like a YouTube video making fun
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: of Stab.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: Which I'm like, kind of an idiot would sit around
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: and record a show making fun of other... Oh, wait. But,
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: so watching them do that, supposedly you look on the
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: side and there's all these other little universe things in there. Yeah.
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: Like there's another video that's like.
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: Sort of supposed to be an interview with the kirby
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: with the surviving kirby that we just saw get knifed
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: in the last movie and they just kind of left
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: her there and we never came back to her but
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: in this universe now she's still alive so we don't
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: know about stew i guess they decided to write him
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: off because that was the old version supposedly stew just
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: survived the tv to the head and was gonna come
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: back in that second movie so much so that he's
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: in the party scene yeah legitimately matthew lillard you can't
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: he's out of focus more or less but he's in
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: the background of the party scene at college that they
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: were potentially i think he was really just on set
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: that day and they were like yeah that'll be funny
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: go get back there but initially in the writing they
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: were thinking of bringing him back for that second movie
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: so i guess.
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: It's kind of hard to survive a tv screens.
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: Especially then now flat screens that thing weighs like four
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: pounds oh fine but old school 90s tv no that
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: would probably take you out so but yeah i thought
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: that was funny that there's a video about that over
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: there too that's the did stew survive so like they've
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: got their own little in-universe jokes going on in the
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: background and side areas of the movie that we're watching
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: and i again that's when you know you're dealing with
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: super levels of geekdom like They're making up their own
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: in-universe stories.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Part of me really wanted a surprise Stu in this movie,
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: but I get it. I just love Matthew Lillard so much.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: You got him. I didn't know that either. Looking at
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: stuff today, they brought a couple of people in to
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: do voices at the party. So one of the people
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: at the party in the murmuring going on at the
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: party at the end is is matthew lillard and the
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: double joke is he's going hey nice house whoever the
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: name is stew that's your house like of course it's
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: a nice house yay so we got in there even
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: if we didn't realize he.
- 1:54:36Speaker 5: Did deliver my favorite line in the whole first movie
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: which was My parents are going to be so mad.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: All of his stuff at the end is just like,
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: you owe me a little phone, girl. All of his, like,
- 1:54:48Speaker 2: there's some times when you can't make Matthew Lillard's delivery work. Like,
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: there's times when it seems weird and out of place. Somehow,
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: he made it all just 100% perfect in that first movie.
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: Everything he says is just amazing. So, yeah, he's in there.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: I think Kirby does come back for a little voiceover.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: So they got Pan and Deer to come back and
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: do one. I think somebody else, too. They got a
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: few of the returning people to do little dubbed-in inside jokes. Again,
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: just for them, because you didn't notice it in there.
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: So we got extra little bonus inside jokes.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: I did also love when Dewey was watching Gale on
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: the TV, and before it cut away, you hear her say, like,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: And if anyone ever tries to convince me to get
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: bangs again.
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: Again, in-universe jokes that reflect the outside world. Because we
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: all sat through that whole third movie going, what have
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: you done? As much as I'm already annoyed by Gale,
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: Like, no.
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Those bangs are terrible. I would go with Parker Posey.
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: Thank you very much. I liked her I'm.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Sorry I liked the third one I liked the third
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: one I thought it was so fun I think there's
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: so many cool things that they do of the movie
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: within the movie kind of gimmick to it that I'm.
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: Just like that's such a cool little aspect that yeah
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: the wrap up's weird but I mean that's true of
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: 2 too so I mean the sequels all kind of
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: have a wrap up weird thing the fourth one I
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: guess is the most interesting at least because it's again
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: there's always somebody on the inside but hers is like
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: so specific and For such a specific reason where they
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: seemed a little more random, the two and three.
- 1:56:26Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: It's just like, wait, so that's the, all right, whatever.
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: This is the final scene. I guess this is the
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: end of the movie.
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: I remembered Courtney Cox's bangs in Scream 3 looking bad,
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: and I just looked it up.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: Oh, they're rough. They're so bad. They're rough.
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: There's entire websites that are coded to that.
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: I mean, it was its own meme for years.
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: And I'm only hoping this brings it back.
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: Why?
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: Courtney Cox says Scream 3 Baby Bangs were the worst.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: I agree. One of the times I agree with Courtney Cox.
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: What a moment that was.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: There's a picture that just said, never forget.
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: And she probably posted it.
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: Note to self, never forget.
- 1:57:15Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: Sigh.
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: Anything we've missed on this one?
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: Pretty thorough.
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: Do you think, since his name comes up at the end,
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: do you think Wes would be pleased with this?
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: I think so just because it's so good. I think
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: it's so solid as a movie. And in addition, it's
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: such a loving tribute to what he created. I feel
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: like it's a nice send-off for his memory as well,
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: if we're done with this series. Which, depending on how
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: much money it makes, we're probably not. I feel like
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: if nothing else, we can get a reboot or we
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: can get, you know, some new version will come out.
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: But will they be as successful in lampooning themselves as
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: this one was?
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: Because this one does a really good job of like
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: giving you reasons that this shouldn't be happening. And yet
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: you're watching one and it's working. So figure all that out.
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: I feel like the directors were put in such a
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: tough spot of having to revive this when the creator
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: has recently, you know, pretty recently passed away.
- 1:58:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: And it was more likely than not that it was
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: going to be bad and people were going to be mad.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: And I think they like beat those odds and did
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: a really good job.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: I mean, especially since so many others have tried to
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: do stuff, maybe without the director just dying. But in general,
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: taking this super popular beloved franchise and watching it fall
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: on its face so many times before.
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: Yeah. So I think they did. Knew that going in
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: and still decided to do it is impressive enough. And
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: then to also be able to deliver what I think
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: is a really effective horror movie along the way.
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: Good job, guys.
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: Yeah, very good job.
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: I do want to see what else they do. Ready
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: or Not was really good.
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 1:59:03Speaker 2: More than I expected. And I was like, oh, wait,
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: that's those guys? No wonder this is so good. So, yeah,
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: I'm definitely interested if they don't just do nothing but
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Scream series continuations from this point on. It's like it'll
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: be interesting to see what else they do now after
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: I'm assuming this is somewhat successful.
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: First weekend alone it made 30 million internationally another or
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: 30 million domestically another 15 internationally.
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: I feel like we haven't seen the last of Ghostbusters.
- 1:59:31Speaker 5: I don't think so either.
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: And I'm okay with that. That's the thing.
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: It's rare that I should be this excited about it.
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: But I'm just like no do another one. As long
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: as it's good do another one. I know it goes
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: against rabid fandom.
- 1:59:44Speaker 5: But like Yeah, I'm looking forward to a new one
- 1:59:48Speaker 5: much more than I am a new Halloween.
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: And I know we're getting a new Halloween.
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: This is a good example of how to do this
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: idea right and how to do it wrong.
- 2:00:03Speaker 5: They even call it, no, it's not like Halloween. Okay,
- 2:00:05Speaker 5: maybe it's a little like Halloween. Maybe it's a little
- 2:00:07Speaker 5: like Halloween.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: But again, the fact that even Wes knew that, you know,
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: was playing with that premise, you know, 25 years ago.
- 2:00:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but I don't feel like he ever tried to
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: hide anything.
- 2:00:18Speaker 7: No.
- 2:00:18Speaker 5: I think he just let it be what it was.
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: Again, as you go back and watch that first one,
- 2:00:23Speaker 2: the jokes are so... Well, even the Freddy Krueger joke
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: in the first one.
- 2:00:26Speaker 5: The Freddy joke is so flunky.
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: I'm just like, wow, that is forced in there. And
- 2:00:32Speaker 2: I'm like, don't get me wrong, I think it's funny,
- 2:00:34Speaker 2: but I'm.
- 2:00:34Speaker 5: Like, that is not subtle, man. But I think that's
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: why I thought it was funny, was because it was
- 2:00:38Speaker 5: so in your face.
- 2:00:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: Yup.
- 2:00:44Speaker 7: All right. Okay.
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: Well, as I said, we had a lot to talk about,
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: and I think we have at least exercised some of
- 2:00:51Speaker 2: the demons that came out of the theater. But I
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: need to talk about these things. So that means we
- 2:00:59Speaker 2: can come back to our normal. See, if you guys
- 2:01:02Speaker 2: were in the club, or for those of you that are,
- 2:01:05Speaker 2: good for you. But normally at the end of these episodes,
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: we'll then get out an evil dragon-enhanced 20-sided die. and
- 2:01:15Speaker 2: open a portal to another dimension and find out what
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: our next horror movie is. And these movies come from
- 2:01:20Speaker 2: you guys. So one more reason, get your movie on
- 2:01:23Speaker 2: that list. But we don't have to do that because
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: we already rolled the last time. So we already know
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: what's coming up. So we can remind you, we will
- 2:01:32Speaker 2: be back in the near future for The Devil's Hand.
- 2:01:37Speaker 5: Glad you said that because i forgot.
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: That's why i keep track of these as we go
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: otherwise even i won't know a recovery i.
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: Knew it was the devil something something.
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: Which we've had a few of them yeah the blood
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: on the devil's castle satan's sister i don't know something
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: like that so so this is from 1962 or 61
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: as many of our older movies go sometimes they cannot
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: decide when it was from so Somewhere in the early 60s,
- 2:02:06Speaker 2: they made this movie, and we're going to be discussing it.
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: So come back for that. We told you ahead of time,
- 2:02:11Speaker 2: so now you can go watch it. So prepare yourself.
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: All right. Anything else to pass along?
- 2:02:21Speaker 5: Watch the movie.
- 2:02:23Speaker 4: Watch your back.
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: Join our club.
- 2:02:25Speaker 2: People in a ghost-faced mask could be waiting to stab
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: you at any given moment, maybe even in broad daylight.
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: So you're never really safe.
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: How about that? Never leave your house.
- 2:02:36Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: Never leave your house. Don't make friends. Don't go anywhere.
- 2:02:38Speaker 2: Don't do anything. Except watch movies and listen to podcasts
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: on occasion. So these are life plans.
- 2:02:44Speaker 7: All right.
- 2:02:45Speaker 2: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time.
- 2:02:47Speaker 2: Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Bye.
- 2:02:49Speaker 5: Bye, everybody.
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: Say die, cry, try.
- 2:03:33Speaker 4: Big city madness, comfort my soul. Give me a home
- 2:03:37Speaker 4: where I can grow.
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: A string of bright lights.
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: Running up through the sky.
- 2:03:49Speaker 4: Throughout the hot night, a car is racing by.
- 2:03:53Speaker 2: You know they'll.
- 2:03:55Speaker 5: See, but most of them pass.
- 2:03:57Speaker 2: She cries by my wares, don't hide in your glass wheels.
- 2:04:39Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:05:03Speaker 4: Big city madness covered my soul Give me a hole
- 2:05:11Speaker 4: where I can grow.
- 2:05:19Speaker 6: Sounds of guitars fill up the night Can't make me feel,
- 2:05:23Speaker 6: I said it's alright In one hotel.
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: Bed, you think you can't grow If you find a hole.
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: Please let me know.
- 2:06:00Speaker 5: You should watch Stabbed.
- 2:06:01Speaker 2: Stabbed. Stabbed 8 looked great. I don't know what they're
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: talking about.
- 2:06:06Speaker 5: Damn Stabbed.
- 2:06:07Speaker 3: Stabbed.
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: I can't believe he said he didn't like it that much.
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: I was like, what is wrong with you?
- 2:06:13Speaker 4: Sir.
- 2:06:14Speaker 2: That's it. We're done. We're done. I've had enough of this.
