Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Fly from Midtown Manhattan. Here comes the Mark Simone show
- 0:05Speaker 1: on seven or well, hey it's Friday.
- 0:10Speaker 2: A lot of stuff to get to. There's these fake news.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's really cranked it up, faking fake fake stories. There's
- 0:17Speaker 2: a fake story out there about ice detained a five
- 0:19Speaker 2: year old child. We'll get to that. We'll get to
- 0:22Speaker 2: the jack Smith hearings. We'll get to how do you
- 0:27Speaker 2: say this, I can never know his name, Machmood Khalid
- 0:30Speaker 2: has been thrown out of the country. Get to that.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We'll get to Davos, Ukraine. Putin there's news. We'll get
- 0:36Speaker 2: to Greenland and more. Now, as far as the storm,
- 0:40Speaker 2: this is the first real, big, huge test of Mam
- 0:44Speaker 2: Donnie as mayor. This has happened in the past where
- 0:48Speaker 2: a new mayor came in I think with Lindsay and
- 0:51Speaker 2: as soon as he got there a major snowstorm and
- 0:54Speaker 2: he was unable to get the streets cleared, especially in
- 0:56Speaker 2: the outer boroughs, and it really hurt him. So we'll
- 1:00Speaker 2: see Mom Donnie has already got he's doing these press
- 1:03Speaker 2: conferences where he puts on the snow jacket, you know
- 1:05Speaker 2: the you know that field jacket, that windbreaker thing where
- 1:10Speaker 2: it says mayor on it. It's got a big logo
- 1:12Speaker 2: on the side. So now here's the good news. This
- 1:16Speaker 2: kind of stuff is usually handled by the director of
- 1:20Speaker 2: emergency Management. That's who's going to do this well. Luckily,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the director of Emerging Emergency Management, who's been there for years,
- 1:28Speaker 2: he is leaving. He gave his resignation, but he's got
- 1:31Speaker 2: two weeks left so he'll be there for this storm,
- 1:34Speaker 2: so he'll be handling it. And the team under him
- 1:37Speaker 2: is deputy emergency management. People are all pretty good, so
- 1:42Speaker 2: that's a good sign. Mam Donnie knows it's a big test,
- 1:45Speaker 2: so he'll rely on them. Let them do what they
- 1:47Speaker 2: have to do. The storm will start overnight Saturday, could
- 1:52Speaker 2: be as early as one am. Looks more now like
- 1:55Speaker 2: four am. The snow will start Saturday night four am
- 1:59Speaker 2: into Someday morning. It will snow all day Sunday. It
- 2:03Speaker 2: will not stop continuous snow all day Sunday Sunday night.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It'll end Monday morning. You might get a little return
- 2:13Speaker 2: to snows a couple of times in the afternoon. When
- 2:16Speaker 2: it's all over, it could be four to twelve inches.
- 2:19Speaker 2: There's about six different models you could use on this
- 2:23Speaker 2: that show every range from four to six four to
- 2:26Speaker 2: twelve most likely, six to eight inches most likely. And
- 2:32Speaker 2: now as far as school on Monday, I don't know.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Here in New York City, Director of Emergency Management says,
- 2:38Speaker 2: no decision has been made on school on Monday. They'll
- 2:41Speaker 2: make that decision over the weekend, and if they do
- 2:44Speaker 2: have to cancel school on Monday, it's not like the
- 2:48Speaker 2: good old days where when you had a snow day,
- 2:50Speaker 2: you had a snow day, you had a snow day,
- 2:53Speaker 2: you got to stay at home and watch game shows
- 2:55Speaker 2: on TV and that sort of stuff, and you got
- 2:58Speaker 2: to see the price is right that kind of stuff.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But nowadays, when there's a snow day, they go to
- 3:04Speaker 2: remote learning. They're gonna expect students to do the remote
- 3:08Speaker 2: learning like they did during the pandemic. Director of Emergency
- 3:11Speaker 2: Management says they are preparing for that, which means they
- 3:15Speaker 2: have to make sure that the server space and the
- 3:18Speaker 2: power they need, storage, all that bandwidth, all that is
- 3:21Speaker 2: up to speed. So they're working on that. But figure
- 3:26Speaker 2: nobody will go to work Monday. It'll be just now
- 3:28Speaker 2: here's the other thing, the snow all day Sunday. Let's
- 3:31Speaker 2: say there's six to eight inches. It's gonna be bitterly cold.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The temperature will be like ten degrees twenty degrees. It's
- 3:38Speaker 2: not gonna melt, and it looks like the temperature will
- 3:41Speaker 2: stay way below freezing for most of the week. So
- 3:44Speaker 2: unlike other storms, there's going to be a long period
- 3:48Speaker 2: of days and days and days where the snow doesn't
- 3:50Speaker 2: go anywhere, just rock hard. And because it'll be freezing,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I got a big problem with ice, black ice, all
- 3:55Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. So most likely you'll not go
- 3:58Speaker 2: out Sunday. Sunday will be the storm, or Monday will
- 4:01Speaker 2: be a mess. You probably won't be able to go
- 4:02Speaker 2: to work or do anything as far as all the suburbs.
- 4:06Speaker 2: No word yet on the school closings, but it's gonna
- 4:08Speaker 2: be a mess. Now we had much bigger storms than
- 4:12Speaker 2: the snowstorms in the past. We haven't had a big
- 4:15Speaker 2: one like this in four years where we got you know,
- 4:17Speaker 2: six to eight inches. It could be me more, but
- 4:20Speaker 2: we'll see and again, sometimes it you know, it weakens,
- 4:24Speaker 2: it shifts. That's why the wide range of predictions now. Flights,
- 4:31Speaker 2: it doesn't look good. It looks like a lot of
- 4:33Speaker 2: flights may be canceled. You know, you cost your money.
- 4:35Speaker 2: You have to pay a fine or a fee to
- 4:38Speaker 2: switch flights. The airlines must of them have waived all
- 4:40Speaker 2: that you can switch your flight dates. I wouldn't be
- 4:43Speaker 2: flying anywhere on Sunday and Monday will probably be a
- 4:46Speaker 2: mess as well. So we'll see if they if they
- 4:51Speaker 2: get on top of this. The subways the awful MTA
- 4:57Speaker 2: director Jano Lieber saying they try, they're expecting it to run,
- 5:02Speaker 2: but there could be Remember the last big snowstorms, you
- 5:06Speaker 2: had some lines that had huge delay, So we'll see.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I went back. Somebody sent me this from nineteen ninety
- 5:12Speaker 2: one NBC News Jessica Savage remember her NBC Nightly News.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Whole story about global warming is so intense that by
- 5:22Speaker 2: the end of the nineties it'll be so warm we'll
- 5:24Speaker 2: never see snow again. This is all these climate change
- 5:28Speaker 2: people from way back then. Remember al Gore's movie An
- 5:30Speaker 2: Inconvenient Truth? When was that twenty years ago? Twenty three
- 5:34Speaker 2: years ago? Get the movie al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth.
- 5:38Speaker 2: That's the climate change movie where he told you all
- 5:40Speaker 2: the things that were going to happen, about the glacier
- 5:43Speaker 2: melting and the Beach would disappear. Watch the movie now,
- 5:47Speaker 2: it's hysterical. Every single thing he predicted never happened. In fact,
- 5:53Speaker 2: just the opposite happened. The glacier got bigger. No Beach, Erosi, nothing.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Just go watch it now and you'll just laugh and
- 6:01Speaker 2: laugh and laugh. The good news. On Sunday, you're gonna
- 6:03Speaker 2: have football. You'll be stuck in all day. You got
- 6:06Speaker 2: two big games Sunday. So that helps President Trump back
- 6:13Speaker 2: from back from Switzerland, back from Davos, which he normally
- 6:18Speaker 2: hates that it's a bunch of globalists talking about climate change.
- 6:21Speaker 2: But that's all changed now. The guy that ran Davos
- 6:24Speaker 2: for years is gone, left in scandal. Now it's run
- 6:27Speaker 2: by Larry Fink of a hedge fund, Blackrock. So it's
- 6:30Speaker 2: more what it's supposed to be, discussing the economy, foreign affairs,
- 6:34Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. Things between world leaders looks like,
- 6:39Speaker 2: looks like a lot of progress was made on the
- 6:42Speaker 2: Ukraine at Davos, Zelenski and Trump talked. And here's how
- 6:46Speaker 2: bad the fake news is. They never tell you what
- 6:48Speaker 2: the hell's going on. They only picked stories that fit
- 6:52Speaker 2: their narrative or that'll hurt Trump if there's anything good,
- 6:55Speaker 2: they never tell you about it. They keep it from you.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Great stuff happened as Ukraine Putin negotiating at Davos, and
- 7:03Speaker 2: last night Steve Witkoff met with Putin for hours and
- 7:08Speaker 2: hours and hours. The meeting didn't end till three in
- 7:11Speaker 2: the morning. This may be the first you're hearing about it,
- 7:14Speaker 2: because fake news will not report this because it looks good,
- 7:18Speaker 2: it looks like progress, so you'll never hear about it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Looks like the President will stay in DC this weekend.
- 7:23Speaker 2: No mar A Lago. He is going to Iowa next week.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Now he's going to be doing this. It'll be kind
- 7:30Speaker 2: of like going on tour every week. He'll be in
- 7:32Speaker 2: a different part of the country speaking, doing a rally.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Part of the reason is they're putting out all these
- 7:38Speaker 2: fake polls about his poll numbers is the economy. You
- 7:44Speaker 2: saw a bunch of them yesterday. I think the Wall
- 7:46Speaker 2: Street journals summed them all up. But they're all fake poles.
- 7:49Speaker 2: If you look at the metrics, totally rigged forgot to
- 7:53Speaker 2: sample Republicans. It's basically they just sampled democrats. They didn't
- 7:56Speaker 2: use likely voters. They used what they call adults, which
- 8:01Speaker 2: means they can pick whoever they want. They can go
- 8:03Speaker 2: to a Harvard and do it in the faculty lounge
- 8:06Speaker 2: if they want so totally rig poles. Why do they
- 8:10Speaker 2: do it? Because it's a great way to bash Trump.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You put out all these fake poles, you get a
- 8:15Speaker 2: big prestigious newspaper to print them all, and then every
- 8:18Speaker 2: network news cast, everybody can say the President's poll numbers
- 8:22Speaker 2: are disastrous. The public has turned on. It's a great,
- 8:25Speaker 2: great way to start that lie going. And you've been
- 8:28Speaker 2: seeing major lies this week from the fake news. There's
- 8:31Speaker 2: been a story all over the place that these evil,
- 8:35Speaker 2: awful Ice people detained a five year old and they
- 8:38Speaker 2: show you the picture they're surrounding the five year old.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And this story's been all over the place. Could anything
- 8:44Speaker 2: look more cruel? These Ice agents show up to grab
- 8:48Speaker 2: a five year old, this little innocent kid with the
- 8:51Speaker 2: Ice agents. What a horrible thing. Now, this has been
- 8:55Speaker 2: all over the place, the fake news, the networks, the
- 8:58Speaker 2: New York Tays, all these people failed to report the
- 9:02Speaker 2: actual story. They had a warrant for an illegal alien,
- 9:06Speaker 2: a real criminal. They had a warrant to arrest him.
- 9:10Speaker 2: They went to get him. They see him there. He's
- 9:12Speaker 2: with a five year old kid. That's this I guess
- 9:14Speaker 2: it's his kid. Apparently it is his kid. His five
- 9:18Speaker 2: year old is with him. The guy sees the ICE agents,
- 9:21Speaker 2: he turns and runs and abandons the five year old,
- 9:25Speaker 2: just leaves him there. He runs from Ice, takes off, vanishes,
- 9:29Speaker 2: leaving the five year old. Can you imagine that. I mean,
- 9:32Speaker 2: you don't want to get arrested by ICE if you're
- 9:34Speaker 2: an illegal alien criminal, but abandoning your five year old.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So he runs off. They go chase the guy, but
- 9:40Speaker 2: of course some of the ICE agents remain to protect
- 9:42Speaker 2: the kid, and one of them is, you know, holding
- 9:45Speaker 2: the kid, make sure the kid's okay. That's the real story.
- 9:48Speaker 2: They failed to report that. The other fake story they've
- 9:52Speaker 2: been putting out is ICE agents arrested an American citizen,
- 9:57Speaker 2: an actual full citizen, an America citizen was arrested by ICE. Well,
- 10:03Speaker 2: they forget to tell you the rest of the story.
- 10:04Speaker 2: When Ice they had a guy who turned out it
- 10:07Speaker 2: was a citizen, but when they stopped the question and
- 10:10Speaker 2: he got into a fight and he punched the ICE
- 10:13Speaker 2: agent in the face, they forget to report that part. Now,
- 10:15Speaker 2: no matter what's going on. If you punch a law
- 10:19Speaker 2: enforcement officer in the face, you're getting arrested. Traffic stop.
- 10:23Speaker 2: But whatever it is. Even if you were totally innocent
- 10:25Speaker 2: and you just got mad, you got stopped, and you
- 10:27Speaker 2: punched the officer in the face, you're getting arrested. It's
- 10:31Speaker 2: that simple. But of course, fake news just unbelievably busy
- 10:37Speaker 2: trying to hurt Trump. Hard to run a democracy when
- 10:41Speaker 2: you don't have actual media going. So Jack Smith testified yesterday.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It looked pretty bad for Jack Smith, pretty bad. A
- 10:51Speaker 2: lot of people were curious why he was so nervous.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He was nervous, he was squirming, And one of the
- 10:57Speaker 2: reasons is to do the dirty stuff that he does.
- 11:01Speaker 2: The dirty work requires a lot of secrecy. And this
- 11:04Speaker 2: guy has been doing this for years. He's a hit
- 11:07Speaker 2: man who goes after political rivals, charges them like crazy.
- 11:11Speaker 2: He gets them convicted of a million things. He's done
- 11:13Speaker 2: it nine other times with Republicans, and all nine times
- 11:17Speaker 2: the cases were tossed out when it went to the
- 11:19Speaker 2: higher courts. And in the case of the Virginia Governor MacDonald,
- 11:23Speaker 2: the Supreme Court throughout all the charges and wrote in
- 11:26Speaker 2: the decision this was all clearly politically motivated. That's this
- 11:30Speaker 2: guy's history. So why was he squirming and so nervous.
- 11:33Speaker 2: He's not used to operating in the spotlight. He's used
- 11:37Speaker 2: to operating in the shadows. To do what he does
- 11:39Speaker 2: requires hiding in the shadows. That's why he was so nervous.
- 11:43Speaker 2: It was funny watching his testimony. He just they had
- 11:46Speaker 2: a million things to get him on. In every case,
- 11:48Speaker 2: he just claimed he did not recall. He couldn't recall.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't recall. I don't remember even when they asked him.
- 11:54Speaker 2: There was some funny business went on to make him
- 11:57Speaker 2: this special prosecutor. Because if if you needed a special counsel,
- 12:01Speaker 2: there's about twelve hundred guys in Washington perfectly qualified. Why
- 12:05Speaker 2: did they go halfway around the world to the Hague
- 12:08Speaker 2: to bring this guy in? Because he's a longtime hit man.
- 12:12Speaker 2: But it was there was some suspicion about how he
- 12:14Speaker 2: got sworn in, how he got so when they asked
- 12:16Speaker 2: him about it, he claimed not to remember. Even when
- 12:20Speaker 2: they asked him when he got sworn in or who
- 12:22Speaker 2: swore him in, he claimed he didn't remember, he couldn't recall.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He then targeted all kinds of Republicans, including the Speaker
- 12:29Speaker 2: of the House. He tapped his phone. He did surveillance
- 12:33Speaker 2: on the Speaker of the House. Nobody knows why, but
- 12:35Speaker 2: to get the warrant, he had to write up a
- 12:38Speaker 2: thing to the judge and they found this, and apparently
- 12:41Speaker 2: in the declaration, Jack Smith said he believed the Speaker
- 12:47Speaker 2: of the House might be a flight risk. Can you
- 12:51Speaker 2: imagine that it was Kevin McCarthy at the time, He's
- 12:54Speaker 2: the Speaker of the House. Smith told the judge he's
- 12:57Speaker 2: possibly a flight risk. This is one dirty, sleazy guy.
- 13:03Speaker 2: When they went after Trump for January sixth, in the
- 13:06Speaker 2: hearings yesterday, his whole argument was that Trump kept saying
- 13:11Speaker 2: the election was rigged. It was rigged, it was rigged,
- 13:13Speaker 2: it was rigged. It was that kind of talk that
- 13:16Speaker 2: led to the protests at the Capitol and the trespassing
- 13:20Speaker 2: and all that. So a couple of senators asked him, well,
- 13:22Speaker 2: Hillary Clinton in twenty sixteen was screaming all over the
- 13:25Speaker 2: place the election was stolen, it was rigged. Russia stole it,
- 13:28Speaker 2: Trump stole it, it was rigged. How come that's not
- 13:31Speaker 2: the same thing. Smith refused to answer that question, couldn't
- 13:36Speaker 2: answer it. Hey, Trump is Donald Trump is forming the
- 13:39Speaker 2: Board of Peace. One of the first task is fixed
- 13:44Speaker 2: the situation in Israel, Gaza. All of that. The Board
- 13:48Speaker 2: of Peace a lot of top world leaders, business people.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Trump has been named the chairman.
- 13:54Speaker 3: This board has the chance to be one of the
- 13:56Speaker 3: most consequential bodies ever created.
- 14:00Speaker 4: My enormous honor to serve as its chairman. It was
- 14:02Speaker 4: very honored when they asked me to do it.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, of course it's his board, it's his board members.
- 14:09Speaker 2: That's why they asked him. But he's the perfect guy
- 14:11Speaker 2: to do it. The plan for Gaza, once you get
- 14:13Speaker 2: everything settled, is to turn it's on the water, as
- 14:18Speaker 2: Trump would say, it's waterfront property. He's a real estate guy.
- 14:21Speaker 2: This is waterfront property. He wants to turn it into
- 14:24Speaker 2: a booming a metropolis with skyscrapers and everything in the world,
- 14:29Speaker 2: money everywhere, money flowing in booming economy. Thinks that'll be
- 14:34Speaker 2: the answer to this.
- 14:34Speaker 3: I'm a real estate person at hearsh and it's all
- 14:38Speaker 3: about location. And I said, look at this location on
- 14:41Speaker 3: the sea, look at this beautiful piece of property. What
- 14:44Speaker 3: it could be for so many people. It'll be so great.
- 14:47Speaker 3: People that are living so poorly are going to be
- 14:49Speaker 3: living so well.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you Palestinians, you're gonna get a Starbucks, You're gonna
- 14:55Speaker 2: get a Chipotle. You're gonna be very happy if you
- 14:57Speaker 2: play your cards right, and in an out burger. It's
- 14:59Speaker 2: going to be quite a place. If not, maybe just
- 15:02Speaker 2: a shake shack. But now, one reason for this Board
- 15:06Speaker 2: of Peace. Normally this would be the United Nations. But
- 15:09Speaker 2: for about fifty years, the United Nations has been the
- 15:12Speaker 2: absolute most useless organization. Does absolutely nothing. It's basically a
- 15:17Speaker 2: VIP lounge for dictators and communists. And Trump was asked about.
- 15:22Speaker 4: It, We'll do it in conjunction with the United Nations.
- 15:24Speaker 3: You know, I've always said the United Nations has got
- 15:28Speaker 3: tremendous potential.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Has not used it.
- 15:31Speaker 3: But this tremendous potential in the United Nations.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, a little competition will be good for them. Hey. Also,
- 15:39Speaker 2: we're no longer in the World Health Organization. It's a shady, sleazy,
- 15:43Speaker 2: corrupt organization. The World Health Organization, the United States is
- 15:47Speaker 2: officially pulled out. It was basically controlled and run by
- 15:52Speaker 2: communist China. The head of it was a Marxist. It
- 15:55Speaker 2: was a bad, bad organization. So let China have it.
- 15:59Speaker 2: We'll still operate when we need to, still work with
- 16:01Speaker 2: them when we when we need to. But otherwise we're
- 16:04Speaker 2: not we're not part of it. Hey, we'll take some calls. Next.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten is the
- 16:10Speaker 2: number eight hundred three two one zero seven ten in
- 16:16Speaker 2: Mark on Demand by setting up priest At for his
- 16:19Speaker 2: podcast on the iHeartRadio app.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Now back to Mark Simon on WR.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Well, let's take some calls. Eight hundred three two one
- 16:30Speaker 2: zero seven ten is the number. Let's go to Bill
- 16:32Speaker 2: in Pennsylvania. Bill, how you doing?
- 16:35Speaker 5: How are you doing?
- 16:36Speaker 2: Mark?
- 16:37Speaker 6: You know I'm a long time listener. I in fact,
- 16:39Speaker 6: I was a listener before uh, you even got on
- 16:43Speaker 6: the radio because I was driving to town taxi when
- 16:45Speaker 6: you were going to Lead School Emerson. In any case, I.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Got a minute. How would you know it was me?
- 16:52Speaker 2: When you're going to Emerson?
- 16:53Speaker 4: I was.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I went to Emerson. It's a college in Boston.
- 16:56Speaker 6: I know you went to Emerson.
- 16:57Speaker 4: I drove.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I was on the radio then. I was on the
- 17:00Speaker 2: radio when I was in college.
- 17:02Speaker 6: Oh, you're kidding me. We didn't have I didn't even
- 17:05Speaker 6: own a radio.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Sound like a really progressive guy.
- 17:11Speaker 6: I have a question for you. Yes, what is the
- 17:16Speaker 6: three most effective words in advertising? I'm also a buyer,
- 17:24Speaker 6: you know, so.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I would assume one is free. No, well, wait a minute,
- 17:31Speaker 2: we're trusting you to have this right. What are they?
- 17:35Speaker 6: Oh, let me get let me just answer it.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Well, you got to answer it now because we're going
- 17:38Speaker 2: to be off the phone in about ten seconds.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Rinse and repeat.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Okay, great, I knew this was going to be a
- 17:44Speaker 2: waste of time. Let's go to Mike in Florida. Mike,
- 17:47Speaker 2: how you doing.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Good morning, Mark, Yes, I had a snatch a question
- 17:53Speaker 4: for you.
- 17:54Speaker 6: I know when he made movies he was pretty adamant
- 17:58Speaker 6: about sort of one take to take at the most
- 18:00Speaker 6: and he would begun.
- 18:01Speaker 4: But in the studio he seemed to be very very fastidious,
- 18:04Speaker 4: and he would do, you know, tons of takes on on.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yes, there was a reason for that. The reason was
- 18:11Speaker 2: he was the most skilled musician in the world. He was,
- 18:15Speaker 2: as the great critic once said, like on a Mozartian level.
- 18:19Speaker 2: He was like Mozart, like somebody that comes along in
- 18:21Speaker 2: music once every couple hundred years. He was so skilled
- 18:24Speaker 2: in the studio, take after take after take, to get
- 18:27Speaker 2: it perfect. But when it came to acting in movies,
- 18:30Speaker 2: he was an unbelievable natural actor. He knew he wasn't
- 18:33Speaker 2: a skilled professional actor. He was just a natural actor.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So he knew he couldn't do multiple takes and get
- 18:38Speaker 2: it right. His only shot was very natural, get it right,
- 18:42Speaker 2: you know, just make it real. He couldn't do repeat takes.
- 18:45Speaker 2: By the way. He in the first major albums in
- 18:49Speaker 2: the fifties, he would do seventy five one hundred takes.
- 18:52Speaker 2: But he he noticed he was burning out the musicians.
- 18:56Speaker 4: That I was going to ask, like, what would you know?
- 18:58Speaker 4: How did the musicians go? I mean, they're working with
- 19:00Speaker 4: the greatest, So of course I'm sure you didn't quite too.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I've got you under my skin. That famous saxophone solo,
- 19:06Speaker 2: he said, when you got to take twenty seven, the
- 19:09Speaker 2: guy wasn't as good on his solo. So he realized,
- 19:11Speaker 2: with musicians, you can only do about ten twelve takes.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's it. Very good question, Mike. Let's go to Jack
- 19:18Speaker 2: in New Jersey. Jack, how you doing.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I'm doing fine, Mark, Thanks, first time. Coler have been
- 19:23Speaker 1: listening to you for a while. Two things I would
- 19:26Speaker 1: like to see is The first one is like, you
- 19:29Speaker 1: need a Nick Shirley type of a person out there
- 19:32Speaker 1: to confront one of these protesters, like up in Minneapolis
- 19:36Speaker 1: to the ICE protesters and say how many of your
- 19:40Speaker 1: neighbors would be interested in coming out if the shoes
- 19:43Speaker 1: on the other foot and you were in trouble with
- 19:45Speaker 1: the law. How many you think it would be out there?
- 19:47Speaker 2: Well known? Sounds like the most riveting programming, But I
- 19:50Speaker 2: get what you're saying, we need more Nick Shirley's He's
- 19:52Speaker 2: the guy that exposed the Somali fraud. You know. I'm
- 19:55Speaker 2: up to nineteen billion of that fraud there in Minnesota.
- 19:59Speaker 2: And you're right, need Nick Shirley everywhere. Need them in
- 20:02Speaker 2: New York, need them all over the place. Let's go
- 20:04Speaker 2: to Vincent and Brooklyn.
- 20:06Speaker 5: Vincent, how you doing, Good morning, Mark, Mark. I'm okay.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I just wanted to clarify what happened to me with
- 20:13Speaker 5: the tariffs yesterday. I only had like ten seconds. I'm
- 20:16Speaker 5: not against the tariffs on the big corporations who cheat
- 20:20Speaker 5: American workers, who place massive tariffs on us. I'm just
- 20:24Speaker 5: talking about these Pettieri tariffs that, as I said, a
- 20:29Speaker 5: woman sent me a Christmas gift for sixty seven dollars.
- 20:33Speaker 5: And I even called up ups yesterday to get the
- 20:36Speaker 5: calculation how they tabulated the tariffs, the tariffs and fees
- 20:42Speaker 5: for me to get a package that I already owned
- 20:45Speaker 5: because she paid for it was ninety seven and fifty cents.
- 20:50Speaker 5: And I also heard on Jimmy Fayler's show the other night,
- 20:53Speaker 5: the call in section after ten a lot of small
- 20:56Speaker 5: businessmen were talking about the same thing. And all I'm
- 21:01Speaker 5: saying is is that Trump needs to have his people
- 21:05Speaker 5: retweet this because over the summer, when this woman came
- 21:11Speaker 5: to stay at my.
- 21:12Speaker 2: House, doesn't stay at your house? What was this all about?
- 21:15Speaker 5: Well, she actually came with her husbands. No, weirder, Well,
- 21:20Speaker 5: I leant to one of my apartments.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Well, Vincent, don't worry that that teriff's eventually go away.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Well, unfortunately it is hurting some little people.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yeah, no it does. But frankly I know. But Vincent,
- 21:33Speaker 2: we get the same exact thing from Democrats. They'll tear
- 21:35Speaker 2: if you even more. They just call it corporate tax.
- 21:37Speaker 5: So but tell me, what how am I supposed to
- 21:42Speaker 5: feel about this?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Not great? But again, the tariffs go away eventually, But
- 21:46Speaker 2: when the Democrats are in power, they'll they'll put huge
- 21:49Speaker 2: time by Vincent. We got to go to do the news. Well,
- 21:53Speaker 2: when we come back, Roger Friedman will be with us
- 21:56Speaker 2: next lots of we'll talk to him about the Oscar
- 21:58Speaker 2: nominations and a whole lot more coming up on seven
- 22:00Speaker 2: to ten w R.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Mister New York Mark Simone on seven ten wo R.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Well Entertainment reporter Roger Friedman. He runs the great website
- 22:11Speaker 2: showbiz for one one dot com. A lot of good stories,
- 22:14Speaker 2: new stuff every day, Showbiz for one one dot com.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Roger Friedman, How you doing?
- 22:21Speaker 4: I'm great. How are you this morning?
- 22:22Speaker 2: I'm good. Hey. Oscar nominations came out this week. What
- 22:25Speaker 2: do you what do you think?
- 22:27Speaker 4: Well? I think they were there were too many surprises.
- 22:31Speaker 4: There were things I was happy about. The big snub
- 22:36Speaker 4: was Wicked. The second Wicked movie got nothing.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 22:42Speaker 4: Well? Because I think the Academy thought they got a
- 22:44Speaker 4: lot last year and that's enough already, and it was
- 22:48Speaker 4: basically the same movie. So Arian the Grande's fans were
- 22:53Speaker 4: very upset that she wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actress,
- 22:57Speaker 4: but she you know, she did well at the Golden Globe,
- 23:00Speaker 4: and I think that was appropriate. We have a lot
- 23:03Speaker 4: of great nominees. I'm really excited about Ethan Hawke being
- 23:08Speaker 4: nominated Best Actor for Blue Moon, which is just a
- 23:13Speaker 4: terrific little film, and of course Timothy Challomey and Leonardo
- 23:17Speaker 4: DiCaprio are in that. But the big news is that
- 23:20Speaker 4: Sinners has really built up a following. They had sixteen nominations,
- 23:26Speaker 4: the most ever for any movie.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Wow, why is that that good?
- 23:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you haven't seen it.
- 23:32Speaker 2: No, I see one movie every ten years.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Sinners is Actually it's an interesting movie because it's sort
- 23:41Speaker 4: of like a vampire movie in a way. It's a
- 23:43Speaker 4: horror film, but it's not a horror film. It's a
- 23:47Speaker 4: film about social studies sort of. And music gorgeous R
- 23:52Speaker 4: and B and blues music from Tennessee, from Memphis, and
- 23:59Speaker 4: it's it's just a great, great film. And Michael B.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Jordan plays two parts in it and he was nominated
- 24:06Speaker 4: for he plays the twin brothers and he was nominated
- 24:09Speaker 4: for Best Actor, and they got del Roy Lindo was
- 24:12Speaker 4: nominated for Best Supporting Actor at seventy three. It's his
- 24:15Speaker 4: first nomination ever and he's such a fabulous actor. So
- 24:19Speaker 4: I think that Sinners may be a spoiler when we
- 24:23Speaker 4: get to the actual show.
- 24:24Speaker 2: What about my favorite movie, Marty Supreme.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Marty Supreme did very well and Timothy Challamy is nominated
- 24:32Speaker 4: for playing Marty, and I think he's probably going to win.
- 24:37Speaker 4: So your old friend Marty can be very proud from
- 24:41Speaker 4: the grave that things have worked out so well for
- 24:44Speaker 4: that movie, which is now at about seventy five million dollars,
- 24:47Speaker 4: which is pretty good.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Yeah. So, but what about Best Picture? You don't think
- 24:50Speaker 2: it'll win Best Picture?
- 24:52Speaker 4: No, I think it's either one Battle after another, which
- 24:55Speaker 4: is sort of my choice. I lean toward that or
- 24:58Speaker 4: Sinners one or the other. The other great movie is Hamnet,
- 25:03Speaker 4: but I think that these other two are going to
- 25:05Speaker 4: overwhelm it.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so, how many people of what percentage actually still
- 25:11Speaker 2: goes to a movie theater rather than streaming, actually goes
- 25:14Speaker 2: and sits in the theater and watches movies.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Now you know what it's the box office is way
- 25:19Speaker 4: up from last year. I think people found a lot
- 25:23Speaker 4: of these movies very, very enjoyable and have made an
- 25:26Speaker 4: effort to go to theater, which is interesting because people
- 25:29Speaker 4: were saying, oh, theaters are over. You know, Netflix is
- 25:32Speaker 4: going to buy Warner Brothers and then they're going to
- 25:35Speaker 4: put all their movies on Netflix. But no, actually the
- 25:38Speaker 4: box office is up year to year.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So yeah, And if you haven't been to a theater
- 25:42Speaker 2: while many of them now they have these reclining leather seats.
- 25:45Speaker 2: They got great seats, liquor licenses, they got more food, candy, waiters, waitresses.
- 25:49Speaker 2: It's pretty good.
- 25:51Speaker 4: I have to be careful about that because if I
- 25:53Speaker 4: get into that reclining seat, if fall asleep immediately, well,
- 25:57Speaker 4: but it.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Does make a difference.
- 25:58Speaker 4: But but but it's really it's good, and it's good. Now.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Of course we're going to have Milania Trump's movie opening
- 26:08Speaker 4: pretty soon.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Hey, let me ask you something about that. It was
- 26:11Speaker 2: done by Brett Ratner, the big Hollywood producer. Wasn't he
- 26:15Speaker 2: kind of blacklisted? Wasn't he me tooed out of Hollywood?
- 26:17Speaker 2: How does he get back in action?
- 26:21Speaker 4: He got back into action because nobody else want met
- 26:23Speaker 4: to direct this movie.
- 26:25Speaker 2: And still it's Amazon. Why would they get involved with
- 26:28Speaker 2: this guy?
- 26:29Speaker 4: No, I don't know. I mean, I like Brett, I
- 26:32Speaker 4: know him a long time, We've been friends for years.
- 26:35Speaker 4: But I do worry about his association with this Also,
- 26:39Speaker 4: as I've been reporting, there's almost been no advanced sale
- 26:43Speaker 4: for this movie. No one is buying tickets. And it
- 26:47Speaker 4: was very funny. For some reason, on the website for
- 26:50Speaker 4: the movie, it came up that I could choose buying
- 26:54Speaker 4: seats in Dixon City, Pennsylvania. Did you ever hear Dixon
- 26:57Speaker 4: City Company?
- 26:58Speaker 2: I could see you there. I think it'd fit right in.
- 27:01Speaker 4: I've never heard of it before. Let's be honest, Sanson.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Let's be honest. I would guess you don't own a
- 27:07Speaker 2: Maga hat.
- 27:09Speaker 4: I don't own a Maga hat. But red is not
- 27:12Speaker 4: my color. And also the hats never look good on me.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Even the Yankee hats still look good on me. Hey,
- 27:17Speaker 4: just I can't make it work.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Speaking of documentary, tell us about because this is one
- 27:21Speaker 2: I'm looking forward. Tell us about the mel Brooks documentary.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Oh, it's so great. It started last night and tonight
- 27:28Speaker 4: is part two on HBO, and then it's going to
- 27:30Speaker 4: be running all weekend. And in our snowstorm, We're going
- 27:33Speaker 4: to have a lot of fun watching the Melbrooks movie.
- 27:36Speaker 4: He's ninety nine years old, he's got every marvel and
- 27:41Speaker 4: he looks great. And the movie, the documentary in two parts,
- 27:46Speaker 4: tells the whole story of his career, you know, his
- 27:49Speaker 4: even his life before in Bancroft and his first marriage
- 27:55Speaker 4: and it had three kids from the first marriage, and
- 27:57Speaker 4: he was working on your show of shows, and he
- 28:02Speaker 4: was trying to make a living, and he was having
- 28:05Speaker 4: a lot of trouble, and then, you know, and then
- 28:06Speaker 4: finally he wrote the producers, and the producers in nineteen
- 28:10Speaker 4: sixty eight got him an oscar for the screenplay, and
- 28:13Speaker 4: it sent his career soaring. And then we have all
- 28:16Speaker 4: those great movies from the seventies, Blazing Saddles and Young
- 28:20Speaker 4: Frankenstein and the movie. Jane Appatto hosts the documentary and
- 28:27Speaker 4: he does a great job, and there's lots of interviews
- 28:30Speaker 4: with various people who've known Mel over the years, including
- 28:34Speaker 4: Rob Reiner, who is, you know, the son of his
- 28:37Speaker 4: best friends. And Rob Reiner is it's really like tragic
- 28:43Speaker 4: to watch him because he's so you just love him
- 28:45Speaker 4: when you see him and you think about this terrible
- 28:47Speaker 4: thing that's happened. But Rob Reiner's in it, and Ben
- 28:52Speaker 4: Stiller and lots of cool people, but it's mostly Mel talking,
- 28:57Speaker 4: you know, at ninety nine about this incredible career that
- 29:00Speaker 4: he's had, and so it's well worth watching both nights.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Tonight is the second night.
- 29:07Speaker 2: And it's on HBO HBO, so go watch yea, hey,
- 29:11Speaker 2: you know what you should go watch. There's an incredible
- 29:13Speaker 2: new Sinatra documentary also two parts.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I saw that you did.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's on Fox Nation. That's their streaming service. You
- 29:22Speaker 2: have to go.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I know that's all right. I love Sinatra. I'll see
- 29:25Speaker 4: anything with Sinatra. I don't care where it.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Is, but that documentary is pretty good, pretty well done.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, there was an HBO documentary several years ago, maybe
- 29:34Speaker 4: ten years ago, there was a great HBO documentary about
- 29:37Speaker 4: Sinatra that's worth finding on their pay per view. But
- 29:42Speaker 4: I'll watch anything about you know that. We'll watch anything
- 29:44Speaker 4: about Frank Sinatra.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but go watch this one. It's on the Fox Nation.
- 29:47Speaker 2: It's called I don't like the title. It's called The
- 29:49Speaker 2: Echoes of an Icon. It's just a new Sinatra. It's great. Hey,
- 29:53Speaker 2: we only got like forty seconds. How's Broadway doing?
- 29:58Speaker 4: Broadway's booming? And how Mary Potter? Of all things? Harry
- 30:02Speaker 4: Potter has been around for several years. It started out
- 30:06Speaker 4: as two plays with an intermission, then they combined it
- 30:09Speaker 4: into one play. It's never really been a success. But
- 30:13Speaker 4: Tom Felton, who played a part in the Harry Potter movies,
- 30:17Speaker 4: is in the play now and the play has taken
- 30:20Speaker 4: off and gone up like a million dollars a week
- 30:23Speaker 4: in sales. It's huge and it was number one this
- 30:26Speaker 4: past week two point six million dollars.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Wow.
- 30:28Speaker 4: So everyone is crazy now about Harry Potter and the
- 30:32Speaker 4: Curse Child. And it's definitely I remember it from the opening.
- 30:36Speaker 4: The magic in it and the special effects are fabulous,
- 30:40Speaker 4: so it's worth checking out. But when this guy came in,
- 30:43Speaker 4: if they just bring in one person every few months
- 30:46Speaker 4: from the movies, they'll stay on top forever.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Well, Roger, you've Friedman great stuff. If you want more,
- 30:52Speaker 2: check out his website and there's new stories every day.
