- 1:02Speaker 1: going to record the intro of this show, this ship,
- 1:04Speaker 1: this Christmas Special is gonna be breaken up into various segments.

- 1:18Speaker 1: and now they gonna make an appearance, Mitch, She's going
- 1:20Speaker 1: to make an appearance at some point. What just all
- 1:22Speaker 1: just breaking it all up, So it's just a segments. Second, Oh,
- 1:24Speaker 1: it's gonna be a real the Best Christias Special we've
- 1:26Speaker 1: ever done.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It's going to be a real uh Santa Smaugas board.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes. Now what we're doing though, is we're just
- 1:32Speaker 1: gonna be recording the intro for this because our dear friend,
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Leonard Moulton is on his way back from a
- 1:37Speaker 1: very important dinner. It isn't it?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Should we start calling him Leonard the Moulton, Meghan the Stallion.
- 1:43Speaker 1: We can ask him. We're gonna ask you at which
- 1:45Speaker 1: point I think we should. I think we should see
- 1:47Speaker 1: other people. Yes, but that's we're gonna be talking about
- 1:50Speaker 1: about a boy today. For the We Are the Guy podcast, Yes,
- 1:54Speaker 1: for the.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Movie Guide with Moulton and Davis Vivin.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Chip that makes sure you do. So it's great. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: the number one film podcasts in the country.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And also, as complimented by a friend of mine on
- 2:04Speaker 2: Twitter akaax the other night, he said, thanks mate, loving
- 2:08Speaker 2: the podcast.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Oh cool. Nice. We just get genuine feedback like that.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It really is.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, people are actually listening to this. But this Christmas special,
- 2:15Speaker 1: a few things are going to be doing. So we're
- 2:17Speaker 1: going to be doing a gift exchange as we always do.
- 2:19Speaker 1: We're going to be talking about underrated Christmas specials or
- 2:22Speaker 1: TV episodes. I thought of something different we've never done before.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So I'm going to be picking two TV show episodes
- 2:27Speaker 1: that I want to talk about. I'll be picking one movie.
- 2:30Speaker 1: One movie. Okay, a movie, all right, yes, okay. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: was going more for the Christmas Special. I know you
- 2:35Speaker 1: were as a TV movie. No, oh, but you can
- 2:38Speaker 1: watch it on your TV. That's usually where we watch them,
- 2:40Speaker 1: that's the phone. Yeah. And we're also going to be
- 2:42Speaker 1: doing some male Bay questions and just having a whole
- 2:46Speaker 1: lot of fun. But Christmas twenty twenty four, what are
- 2:49Speaker 1: your plans? What are you looking forward to? What are
- 2:51Speaker 1: you doing for this year? What are we doing?
- 2:53Speaker 2: I will be having a very nice Christmas lunch with
- 2:57Speaker 2: Louise's family.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I think I may ask you this, Yeah you have, yeah, so.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But let me reiterate, just in case people are just
- 3:05Speaker 2: listening to Christmas Special and nothing else. Having a very
- 3:08Speaker 2: nice Christmas lunch with the Luis's family on Sunday the
- 3:11Speaker 2: twenty second. Yep, food and drink and good chat and
- 3:15Speaker 2: everyone looking at their clock saying can we leave now? No, No,
- 3:18Speaker 2: it won't be like that'll be fantastic. So I'm really
- 3:20Speaker 2: looking forward to that.
- 3:21Speaker 1: There'll be a few.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Days in between, and then on Christmas Day, Lou and
- 3:27Speaker 2: I will head down to bar and Heads, where if
- 3:29Speaker 2: everything goes according to plan, which sometimes it doesn't, we
- 3:32Speaker 2: will be spending Christmas Day at the house of my
- 3:34Speaker 2: big sister Joanne. Everyone will bring a plate by myself
- 3:38Speaker 2: and making the mac and cheese that was a big hit.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Don't over this time.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I didn't slip over the last time, but it came very,
- 3:47Speaker 2: very close. But that's because it started like raining a
- 3:49Speaker 2: monsoon on Christmas Day.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been really wark, so I've got plenty of
- 3:53Speaker 1: Christmas ugly sweaters and normally people go it's warm and
- 3:56Speaker 1: a shoga, yeah, but it's usually overcast enough to be
- 3:58Speaker 1: able to wor a jumper. It's been hot. It has been.
- 4:01Speaker 1: We had like a really stinking hot day. Going to
- 4:04Speaker 1: be thirty six today. I heard it was going to
- 4:07Speaker 1: be like thirty one, but now it's gonna be thirty
- 4:08Speaker 1: thirty six. Let's wrap this up. A guy rocks up
- 4:11Speaker 1: on a long sleeve shirt. Though, what are you doing, buddy, Well,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know we're doing the Christmas special, we're doing doing
- 4:16Speaker 1: the movie guide. You always just as up for the
- 4:18Speaker 1: movie guide. I want to look nice splended, So that
- 4:25Speaker 1: was me doing coust blinded.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So yeah, that'll be that, and that there will just
- 4:31Speaker 2: be a lot of lazing on the couch and so yeah,
- 4:36Speaker 2: that's that's what we're planning.
- 4:37Speaker 1: How about you. Yeah, Well, the kids, they seem to
- 4:39Speaker 1: be getting up early and earlier each Christmas. I feel
- 4:41Speaker 1: they're gonna be up at like six this year. Because
- 4:43Speaker 1: my parents go, what are we doing for Christmas Morning?
- 4:45Speaker 1: I said, what the hell? I cart just fell off
- 4:48Speaker 1: the wall. I thought the bird flying. I was like,
- 4:49Speaker 1: what the hell? I thought it was the biggest moth
- 4:51Speaker 1: I've ever seen, like roof's leaking, muster flying around Christmas
- 4:56Speaker 1: mirror rebuilding the ship. But so my parents go, so
- 4:59Speaker 1: we times Christmas morning? I said, like, kids probably get
- 5:01Speaker 1: up like six six thirty. They said, I'd make them
- 5:03Speaker 1: wait till like seven seven thirty. I'm like, kids ain't
- 5:04Speaker 1: gonna be waiting. If you want to see them opening presents,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you get here.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Then making small children wait on Christmas morning? It was
- 5:12Speaker 2: an ebony Scrooge and who's missus degle Degal?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah, what is it? Bomb? Her theme's awesome, but it's
- 5:22Speaker 1: going to be a very early Christmas morning. I think here,
- 5:24Speaker 1: kid's going to go crazy. We've got alliott cricket bat
- 5:28Speaker 1: like a wooden cricket bat, a pop a cricket bat,
- 5:31Speaker 1: a cricket helmet is a theme here, cricket pants, cricket
- 5:34Speaker 1: test shirt, cricket balls. It's clearly into swimming from the
- 5:43Speaker 1: big Lebaska. Clearly you're not a golfer. And Holly has
- 5:50Speaker 1: just got her various barbie things and makeups. Yeah, we've
- 5:53Speaker 1: got a new bike, her first proper bike for training wheels. Yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 1: so that's that's exciting. She's like, well, she doesn't She
- 5:59Speaker 1: kept saying short a bike til Sands and she's like,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I didn't bring me one. I've been I'm on the
- 6:04Speaker 1: bad list. I was like, why are the badge goes?
- 6:05Speaker 1: I don't go to bed early. Like, well, there's one
- 6:07Speaker 1: way to fix that. Holly go to bed early and
- 6:09Speaker 1: go to sleep because she is a nightmare at bedtime. So,
- 6:11Speaker 1: because we've got the double bed night out now, So
- 6:15Speaker 1: we ask Eliot. He says she's a nightmare because they
- 6:18Speaker 1: sleep in the same double bed now, because we've got
- 6:20Speaker 1: a bunk bed double bed down the bottom. And ever
- 6:22Speaker 1: since then, Holly. She just pesters him and she can't
- 6:26Speaker 1: go to sleep and she kicks him. And so wait,
- 6:28Speaker 1: she got the lower they're both on the bottom.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, but was it originally designed to be
- 6:33Speaker 2: like someone's up top, someone's down there?
- 6:34Speaker 1: Not until Ali. It's a bit older because he sometimes
- 6:36Speaker 1: sits up in his sleep and he's sort of he's awake,
- 6:38Speaker 1: but he's not awake. You don't want to crack the
- 6:41Speaker 1: ceiling or exactly yeah, yeah, or fourth the edge.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I suppose that's also also potentially a problem. One of
- 6:48Speaker 2: these people does not have children.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Speaking of cricket, though, it took Ali to the cricket
- 6:52Speaker 1: last night in Geelong why to torturing. Oh, that's right.
- 6:54Speaker 1: He likes cricket, So I'm like everybody else, and I
- 6:57Speaker 1: feel like even someone who doesn't like cricket would enjoy
- 7:00Speaker 1: the Big Bash live. That's because it's quick. It's quick,
- 7:03Speaker 1: so it's twenty overs. It's called Big Bash because you
- 7:05Speaker 1: have to just bash it. So every boll that's trying
- 7:07Speaker 1: to hit a six and a four, if you if you.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Want to get runs, yeah, you better bash it. Bash it, yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 2: and you better bash it. You most bashed Big Lee
- 7:15Speaker 2: big ly bashing.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Bash to the big No, no, we won't talk about
- 7:22Speaker 1: political stuff, okay, but so like every time they hit
- 7:25Speaker 1: a four or six, fireworks are going off and there's
- 7:27Speaker 1: flames and shiit. That sounds a little busy, but but
- 7:30Speaker 1: sounds also like fun. It's youngsters, it's insane. It's really
- 7:35Speaker 1: good though.
- 7:36Speaker 2: See I'm old enough to remember back in the nineteen
- 7:38Speaker 2: ship and when One Day Cricket was introduced and World
- 7:41Speaker 2: Series Cricket and all that, even with someone like me
- 7:44Speaker 2: who was not interested, like, oh so it's it's quick,
- 7:47Speaker 2: it's one and done.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And they're wearing colors and they were it's colorful.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I can actually tell which team is which, as opposed
- 7:53Speaker 2: to it's just a bunch of white suits.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Days, I'm not making players five days in events?
- 8:02Speaker 1: What's going I'm going to make a meme with someone
- 8:03Speaker 1: talking about a Test match, but it's home as five dollars,
- 8:05Speaker 1: get out of here. You're very good at the memes.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You did a very good raygun meme last night. Was
- 8:11Speaker 1: I reshare? Someone said that to me, Yeah, no worry, bet,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but it was good.
- 8:15Speaker 2: It was a good one. It was a good one.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And well I'm glad Elliott had a good time at
- 8:18Speaker 2: the Big Back.
- 8:18Speaker 1: He'd loved it. He got to meet his favorite player
- 8:20Speaker 1: before the game and started. He was walking around and
- 8:21Speaker 1: I said, his name is Jake Fraser McGirk is his favorite.
- 8:25Speaker 1: He's he's my favorite player based on that name. So
- 8:28Speaker 1: he's twenty one and you see it was cricket now, right,
- 8:31Speaker 1: So I know you don't care about cricket. But India
- 8:33Speaker 1: had this their version of the BBO called the IPL right,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and its essentially lift golf. So they get the best
- 8:38Speaker 1: players around the word, paying a shipload of money and
- 8:40Speaker 1: they all they have it there, right, So he this
- 8:42Speaker 1: phrase McGirk twenty one years old. He's contract for the
- 8:45Speaker 1: next I think it's like a two month tournament one
- 8:47Speaker 1: point two six million dollars. So Jake Fraser McGirk said, bag, yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I know right. So and you know why because he
- 8:57Speaker 1: just bashes it. That's Ali goes he's good. Said why
- 9:00Speaker 1: why is he your favorite? He just bashes it. I'm like,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's all kids want now, just bash it, just bash it.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That none of this you know, black Eye playing only
- 9:06Speaker 1: understands his rules, Like I'd rather see people pit sixers.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no.
- 9:10Speaker 2: You can play the long game, but sometimes you just
- 9:12Speaker 2: want to grip it and rip it man.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Hey, well done.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Jake Fraser mcgurg and well done Elliot for having a
- 9:17Speaker 2: good time at the cricket. Well done you for taking
- 9:19Speaker 2: him to the cricket.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Yeah, God to meet his favorite player. Sign I said,
- 9:22Speaker 1: make sure I say thank you so thinking he goes
- 9:24Speaker 1: good Man is buddy, great work. And Ali's like, oh god,
- 9:26Speaker 1: he spoke to me. It's important news. Good matter's because
- 9:29Speaker 1: so many kids just go to sign this. Oh yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: how many?
- 9:33Speaker 2: I as everyone knows, not a parrot, but I've had
- 9:37Speaker 2: influence over certain children in my life.
- 9:38Speaker 1: It's got me in trouble. No, no, no.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The one thing I've always told any person I can
- 9:43Speaker 2: be a role model to basic manners. It will get
- 9:46Speaker 2: you ahead of ninety percent of people in life.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It does, and it costs nothing.
- 9:50Speaker 2: It costs nothing, and it shows that you are a
- 9:52Speaker 2: person of character. And I'm sorry, I know, I know,
- 9:55Speaker 2: I sound like I'm handing out word as candies today.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I don't know. No, No, it's a legit likely so
- 10:00Speaker 1: many friends who have kids and they just don't have manners.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And now friends don't pull them up for it, and
- 10:04Speaker 1: I always sometimes feel sometimes I sometimes feel I should
- 10:07Speaker 1: say that Nicko and I maybe were a bit too
- 10:09Speaker 1: harsh because every time they want something, we go, what
- 10:11Speaker 1: do you say? Please? Thank you? Always constantly reminding them right.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But then when we go to someone's house and they go,
- 10:17Speaker 1: can I please have a drink? They go what lovely manners?
- 10:20Speaker 1: It's like they're blown away. Oh my god, this child
- 10:22Speaker 1: said please. Now, this is basic programming, this is this
- 10:27Speaker 1: is the core os. Yeah you So yesterday Aliot had
- 10:32Speaker 1: his Christmas celebration at school and they're handing out bags
- 10:35Speaker 1: of lollies and Ali goes, thank you. He was the
- 10:39Speaker 1: only one said thank you, and she goes, you can
- 10:41Speaker 1: have two because you used your manners. I was like,
- 10:44Speaker 1: holy shit, I've broken the matrix.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Manners are of course their own reward, yeah, but sometimes
- 10:51Speaker 2: you get an actual reward.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah. It was quite funny because they go there's a
- 10:54Speaker 1: special guest coming later, and everyone's like, oh my god,
- 10:56Speaker 1: it's Santa Claus, right, And they said Santa Claus is
- 10:58Speaker 1: going to make an appearance, and Santa this comings ound
- 11:00Speaker 1: is coming. It was just one of the teachers didn't
- 11:02Speaker 1: even put a bed on. Everyone's like, ah, there's just
- 11:06Speaker 1: this guy didn't put a bed on it. And I
- 11:09Speaker 1: get he has a bed, but it's like it's more
- 11:11Speaker 1: like a hipster brown stubble beard. It's not a bid
- 11:14Speaker 1: Santa Beard. And everyone just went it's not the real Santa. Look.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I say, with all due respect to this teacher and
- 11:21Speaker 2: this this stuff, because teaching is a tough gig. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 2: you're sucking up.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I said, I said to it. I was sort of
- 11:28Speaker 1: baffled by it. I went to Nicola. Maybe it's because
- 11:31Speaker 1: because I think he seems like the cool teacher. I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think he wanted everyone to know it's me. Guys, it's
- 11:35Speaker 1: the it's the cool guy, you know they want everyone
- 11:37Speaker 1: loves it's me being sand I think that's what it
- 11:39Speaker 1: was going for.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Well, guess what if you're that cool, they'll be able
- 11:41Speaker 2: to see it's you through the Santa suit and play along.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Put the Santa suit on. Yeah, hear the Santa suit on?
- 11:46Speaker 1: But no bed. I went, eh, yeah, not buying it, guy,
- 11:50Speaker 1: not buying it. No, But Leonard's going to be very here,
- 11:54Speaker 1: very very soon. That's correct. Yeah, we're just riff it.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We're kind of vamping because this is going to be
- 11:59Speaker 1: the longestchrist Special of all time, but it's gonna be
- 12:01Speaker 1: the best one. As I said, You're not gonna be
- 12:03Speaker 1: doing the longest part. I'm go doing parts of other
- 12:04Speaker 1: people and they're going to combine all together like a
- 12:06Speaker 1: fantastic Christmas specially that's correct.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yes, as mentioned, Yeah, our significant others are going to
- 12:11Speaker 2: be there.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I'm dropping this on Christmas Eve. So what do you reckon?
- 12:14Speaker 1: You're doing right now? What am I doing right now?
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's gonna be I am either curl.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Them on the couch with the lovely Luise watching something
- 12:21Speaker 2: ninety day related, or I'm at my place giving Lou
- 12:25Speaker 2: and the kids a bit of space before we all.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Convene on Christmas morning. So look, it's an either or proposition.
- 12:31Speaker 1: We're having a unique Christmas Eve because tell me more,
- 12:35Speaker 1: what my mom's side of the family know, you have
- 12:36Speaker 1: families just have sort of like tension and riffs sometimes
- 12:39Speaker 1: and whatnot right and sometimes for many years, my mum
- 12:43Speaker 1: and various siblings of hers just note that they didn't
- 12:46Speaker 1: like it, but they just didn't hang out anymore, Like
- 12:49Speaker 1: something happened terrible for you many years ago, and it
- 12:52Speaker 1: just sort of the family just wasn't the same afterwards,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and that this year we're going to my auntie, my
- 12:59Speaker 1: auntie Nancy's house for Christmas Eve, and I went, oh, okay,
- 13:03Speaker 1: we're doing that. Mum's like, yeah, Nancy's inviters to go.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It's just gonna be asking Nancy. And I was like, oh,
- 13:08Speaker 1: like we used to do. Okay, cool, I won't ask
- 13:12Speaker 1: any questions. But it's a low key Christmas miracle. Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I was just like, ah, it's a time of years,
- 13:17Speaker 1: like are they hanging spending time? Okay?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Cool, It's it's the time of year for all reunions
- 13:21Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff. I mean, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 2: we're living in an increasingly cynical age and all that
- 13:26Speaker 2: kind of stuff. So it's nice that and even Christmas
- 13:29Speaker 2: gets kind of a little bit okay yeah a ho
- 13:32Speaker 2: ho home blah blah blah. But honestly, yeah, I mean
- 13:34Speaker 2: it is the kind of year. It is the time
- 13:35Speaker 2: of year when you get a bit of shorthands.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Like maybe we should be a bit nicer to each other,
- 13:39Speaker 1: and yeah, why aren't we talking? Why are we talking?
- 13:41Speaker 2: You know, it was like I was gonna say something,
- 13:44Speaker 2: I bring the moved down. I'm not gonna do it,
- 13:47Speaker 2: but yeah, this time of year. Yeah, it's just a
- 13:50Speaker 2: It gives you an excuse to the ones you love
- 13:53Speaker 2: hold them a little closer.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, we're going to be doing gift giving in
- 13:57Speaker 1: the next segment here on the Christmas Special, But before then,
- 14:00Speaker 1: we're going to hear from the very first time the
- 14:02Speaker 1: lovely Louise she exists. Yeah, she wasn't gonna be on
- 14:07Speaker 1: the show live listeners. I actually haven't listened to the
- 14:09Speaker 1: message yet, so I don't know what her voice. I'm
- 14:11Speaker 1: gonna be hearing her voice for the first time, as
- 14:13Speaker 1: you hear for the first time. I've never met her.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I've never heard a voice. This is going to be
- 14:17Speaker 1: something special.
- 14:19Speaker 2: She's shack no, no, no, it was just you know,
- 14:22Speaker 2: the it's noting. Timing hasn't worked out, But I don't
- 14:24Speaker 2: know why it hasn't done. But I mean, I've met.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I've met her. I'm not.
- 14:29Speaker 2: She's great. I'm sure I've said to you on occasion.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'm sure I've said to lou on occasion. Yeah, the
- 14:35Speaker 2: four of us, should you know, just go grab a steak.

- 21:35Speaker 1: on your personal one. Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Facebook's not good for many things these days, but occasionally
- 21:40Speaker 2: does precious memories. And it was, and it was a
- 21:44Speaker 2: few days ago.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Twenty nineteen when that photo was yeah, yeah, very well.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah, our first overseas holiday together when we went to Bali.
- 21:50Speaker 2: There's a lovely picture of us on the on the
- 21:52Speaker 2: beach at Sonua.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah. I will actually, well i'll.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Get loose permission, but I will share it with all
- 21:58Speaker 2: of you in certainly the patrons.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Is that the time where you made it walk in
- 22:02Speaker 1: the rain or is that the time after I didn't
- 22:05Speaker 1: make it walk in the rain. I'm not a monster.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You suggested, we're not getting the cabs. It's three dollars
- 22:13Speaker 1: three bucks, and hands were made it a way forget it.
- 22:15Speaker 1: We walked, we're walking. Yeah, we've never forgotten. No.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I think it speaks buyings about how smooth a ride
- 22:24Speaker 2: our relationship has been.
- 22:26Speaker 1: That.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the things that causes a little bit of adjuta
- 22:29Speaker 2: were like, ah, it made me run in the rain
- 22:32Speaker 2: to get back to our hotel. Admittedly it was really
- 22:35Speaker 2: heavy rain and we did get really really so, so
- 22:38Speaker 2: I can't understand why she'd be a bit pissed off.
- 22:40Speaker 1: You go home and everybody was all slippery. I was like,
- 22:42Speaker 1: all right, well now what yes, no, but that that
- 22:49Speaker 1: was our first obously holiday together. It is I like,
- 22:53Speaker 1: do you have do you guys have like a signature
- 22:55Speaker 1: photograph of yourself or it is like a photo of
- 22:57Speaker 1: like not this is us at our best, but this
- 22:59Speaker 1: is us Nicola loves she loves having a photo of
- 23:02Speaker 1: us doing a toast with our drinks, with our anniversary dinners.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Ah and go way to the food comes out and
- 23:08Speaker 1: then do the photo. Oh and it's one that you
- 23:09Speaker 1: repeat regularly, Nicholas. That's what we always do. It's not
- 23:12Speaker 1: like we deliberately do it. But I've realized. I went
- 23:14Speaker 1: because we made hard drives for Nicholas, because Nicola posted
- 23:17Speaker 1: a big box over to England for Christmas this year.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I made a hard drive of basically every photo from
- 23:20Speaker 1: the kids onwards. It's like all and from all their phones. W.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I was like, every anniversary, literally do that the same
- 23:25Speaker 1: photo with it. I was like, along with that, it's
- 23:27Speaker 1: just subconscious to become a thing. It's a tradition. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: and tradition is not necessarily Sunday night Rol absolute legend,
- 23:33Speaker 1: but also love Louise, absolute legend. It was honestly, it
- 23:36Speaker 1: was just it was a weird bok. I was like,
- 23:38Speaker 1: this is the first one I'm hearing her speak.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Well, there you go, you have and now we're as well.
- 23:46Speaker 2: So that's her gift to all of you, exactly right.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So speaking of gift, it's gift gigging time. I just
- 23:55Speaker 1: couldn't say gift giving. There we go, there you go.
- 23:57Speaker 1: You nailed it. Now, you'll never get it wrong again.
- 23:59Speaker 1: All right, I give you give you yours first from me.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I didn't wrap it up because you know, shananigans just
- 24:03Speaker 1: want to get in the kids to school. It was
- 24:04Speaker 1: just too busy and I just forgot. I apologize. I'm
- 24:07Speaker 1: not going to talk about all the shanannigans that happened
- 24:09Speaker 1: this morning because oh bully, oh boy. But it's wrapped
- 24:12Speaker 1: up in a Christmas jumper. Okay, well you can have
- 24:14Speaker 1: the jumper. Is this feels solid? It's half of the mass.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 24:21Speaker 2: The what we've got here, folks, is the Ultimate visual
- 24:24Speaker 2: History of Die Hard, with a foreword by John McK
- 24:27Speaker 2: timm and the director of the film, and it's got
- 24:29Speaker 2: Bruce looking very guy Davis on the front of it.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Fantastic, man, what a gift. This is awesome, splendid to
- 24:35Speaker 1: get that from the States. Oh my god, I was
- 24:38Speaker 1: brought over from the States. Remember I said, my friend
- 24:40Speaker 1: was coming over from America. You got something for you?
- 24:42Speaker 1: This was it. I'm going to read a little bit
- 24:45Speaker 1: of the back blurb to you. Thirty years after the release.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Of the groundbreaking action classic Diehard, The Ultimate Visual History
- 24:51Speaker 2: takes an in depth look at the entire die Hard saga,
- 24:54Speaker 2: from the original movies.
- 24:55Speaker 1: To the hit sequels. There are only two sequels, and
- 24:57Speaker 1: we don't talk about for.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Actually I have Die Had four point oh akaa, Live
- 25:02Speaker 2: Free or Diehard Free?
- 25:03Speaker 1: Not that bad? A good day of Diehard sucks ass?
- 25:06Speaker 1: Really okay, terrible movie?
- 25:07Speaker 5: Was it?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Always that seems to be the third ones just no good?
- 25:09Speaker 1: But the face like they make the third and the
- 25:11Speaker 1: fourth one always it's like, it's not so bad. Toy
- 25:14Speaker 1: Story three was great. Diehard with a Vengeance fantastic? Okay,
- 25:17Speaker 1: So is there five? Yeah? There's five?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Oh, didn't die Hard? Die had to Colin die Hard? Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 2: die Had with a Vengeance?

- 25:27Speaker 1: I die hard four point oh and then A Good
- 25:29Speaker 1: Day to die Hard. I feel like die Hard too
- 25:31Speaker 1: should have been called just die Harder. That's what I thought,
- 25:34Speaker 1: because you know, like they do the Bad Boys sequels
- 25:36Speaker 1: and they just caught bad boys whatever. It's like, well
- 25:38Speaker 1: the ones bad Boys too, that was they was just
- 25:41Speaker 1: called bad boys too. It wasn't bad boys to something.
- 25:43Speaker 1: It's just just die Harder. We know what it would be. Yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 1: that's right. Yeah, and then number three we die Hardest.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Sorry I didn't fish from the original movie to the
- 25:50Speaker 1: hit sequels and other extensions of Hero John McLain's story.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I love these visual history because I've got like eighteen
- 25:57Speaker 1: Dressy park Like, they're fucking unbelievable. I'm looking at him

- 26:58Speaker 2: work something medium?
- 26:59Speaker 1: Large fits me? Fine? Okay, well this one's larger, that'd
- 27:01Speaker 1: be fine. Angels were filthy souls. Holy shit, that is awesome.

- 27:44Speaker 1: Fresh just out of the Better Watch Better straight from China. No, no,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say that if this was an episode
- 27:53Speaker 1: of House we was an episode where all these kids
- 27:55Speaker 1: started getting sick, and it's because they had bought shirts
- 27:57Speaker 1: or something and put the shirts on they brought from China,
- 27:59Speaker 1: Like you didn't wash him first from China? Did I
- 28:03Speaker 1: tell you about the thing that I saw the other day?
- 28:06Speaker 2: It was like a TikTok video of a Chinese guy
- 28:10Speaker 2: like in a in a warehouse or a factory or something,
- 28:14Speaker 2: speaking Spanish but in a trump accent, wearing a Trump wig.
- 28:18Speaker 1: No.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I think I think his business sells like the like
- 28:23Speaker 2: big illuminated letters that you put on your wall or something. Okay,
- 28:27Speaker 2: and look it was he was speaking flawless Spanish I'll
- 28:29Speaker 2: see if I can find it for you.
- 28:32Speaker 1: But he's doing the trump gest and hands, isn't it.
- 28:35Speaker 1: But you're doing the little hands you go geanautin geinatte.
- 28:40Speaker 1: That sounds great. I don't think I'm gonna et other
- 28:44Speaker 1: because that's that's here say. But it was just he
- 28:46Speaker 1: has nailed and I said, look, if this is the
- 28:48Speaker 1: end product of globalization, let it happen. Hand open all
- 28:52Speaker 1: the borders. Sometimes you watch things and you just think
- 28:54Speaker 1: to yourself, this is what the Internet was made for.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I said to you. The face apps, the
- 29:01Speaker 1: filters that make your face change or whatnot. Have you
- 29:03Speaker 1: seen the moment makes you cry? No, it makes you
- 29:06Speaker 1: look like you're crying. Oh my god. Ah, I'll show
- 29:09Speaker 1: you a video of this, but i'll show later. But
- 29:11Speaker 1: basically it's it's a filter and the more you smile,
- 29:14Speaker 1: the more it makes it look like you're upset and crying. Oh. No,
- 29:18Speaker 1: face filters for like that. That's peak technology to me.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I'll feel a cardio too. I'll open up the said
- 29:24Speaker 1: card Oh look, there's not much in that. It says
- 29:26Speaker 1: Merry Christmas to Dano, wishing you Merry Christmas and all
- 29:31Speaker 1: the best for twenty twenty five. Cheers guy, next man,
- 29:33Speaker 1: I didn't get you a card. I'm one of those
- 29:34Speaker 1: people who go, I'd rather spend extra money on the
- 29:37Speaker 1: present than bother with a card. You know what I mean? Oh, Nicholas,
- 29:41Speaker 1: all about cards. I like getting cards, but I always
- 29:44Speaker 1: just go no.
- 29:45Speaker 2: I think I've reached that stage as well, or where
- 29:48Speaker 2: I recognize the like, look, the cards are nice, little
- 29:51Speaker 2: it's garnish.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Nicolaie keeps all the cards. She's got a box in
- 29:54Speaker 1: our wardrobe. I'm talking it's just full of every Christmas card.
- 29:57Speaker 1: She just keeps more good for her, she says when
- 29:59Speaker 1: she goes, aren't you glad that I've got kept all
- 30:01Speaker 1: the cards you got from your name? And I was like,
- 30:03Speaker 1: you do make a good point.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, she's she's not done me that late.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But yeah, I think I've realized the people are going
- 30:09Speaker 2: to go, hey, that's nice, thank you very much, and
- 30:10Speaker 2: then throw it to one.
- 30:11Speaker 1: So never buy a kid a card about a card.
- 30:15Speaker 2: No, the only reason that lose kids are getting cards
- 30:18Speaker 2: is because I'm slipping a fifty inteach of them.
- 30:19Speaker 1: That's it.
- 30:20Speaker 2: But so I just went where I got my Christmas
- 30:23Speaker 2: lights at Aldi, and they also had a box of
- 30:25Speaker 2: like ten cards, and I'm like, that's pretty much all
- 30:27Speaker 2: I'm going to need. Yeah, anyway, but yeah, that's a
- 30:29Speaker 2: fantastic gift and I really appreciate today.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we did all right by each other. I remember
- 30:35Speaker 1: you were saying to me, when it comes to movie
- 30:37Speaker 1: shirts or whatnot, you like having things that are from
- 30:41Speaker 1: a film, so for example, like a food franchise or something.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But everyone's looking for clothes for you. I'm like, I
- 30:47Speaker 1: would like this, but I'm always most people go, I
- 30:49Speaker 1: don't want to buy a shirt for somebody in case
- 30:50Speaker 1: I don't like this shirt. It's a really good point.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Buying clothes for people. Oh yeah, Now, clothes is a
- 30:56Speaker 1: very it's a very dicey proposition. I'm like, this isn't
- 30:59Speaker 1: from Country Road, and the answer is not. But if
- 31:04Speaker 1: someone brought you a themed shirt, do you think you
- 31:06Speaker 1: would wear it if it was the right one, If
- 31:10Speaker 1: it was the right one, certainly? I mean, is there
- 31:13Speaker 1: a franchise or anything from a movie that you always
- 31:15Speaker 1: wish there was a shirt of Oh.
- 31:16Speaker 2: That's a really good point, because I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 31:21Speaker 2: name check some people. These are not friends of the Pod,
- 31:23Speaker 2: although I become friend of the pod last Exit to Nowhere.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I'm sure I mentioned.
- 31:26Speaker 1: This this site before. They're the sort of the first
- 31:30Speaker 1: ones to really do that thing that I'm talking about
- 31:33Speaker 1: where it's like I just had vibes of like a
- 31:35Speaker 1: rotten dot com. That's what I thought Last Exit to
- 31:36Speaker 1: know it. It sounds like, don't go here.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds sketchy and wrong. Yeah, but no, it's
- 31:42Speaker 2: it's a legit good site. And I've got so many
- 31:44Speaker 2: of the t shirts because they're good quality shirts.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I think this is a good quality shirt is red
- 31:49Speaker 1: one had it when you buy it and the shirts
- 31:50Speaker 1: are kind of stiff. Oh yeah, yeah, you're not flexible. Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 2: One of the first shirts I bought from Last Exit
- 31:57Speaker 2: was it's paper street Soap come from fight Club.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I think you might have mentioned that.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I probably wore it once and I think I got
- 32:04Speaker 2: it when I was a little huskier. So it's a
- 32:06Speaker 2: I've got a big ass one and sometimes it's like
- 32:09Speaker 2: sometimes it's fits just red and sometimes like this is
- 32:11Speaker 2: floating on me.
- 32:12Speaker 1: It's one of those ones that you can put it
- 32:13Speaker 1: on and put a jacket over the top. That's a
- 32:14Speaker 1: good point at least you can see the logo still.
- 32:16Speaker 2: I think when I was a little bit leaner, I
- 32:18Speaker 2: was like, I really late my fake club T shirt
- 32:20Speaker 2: because the shirts that I'm itchy and cool, but you know,
- 32:23Speaker 2: this one's really floating on me. I'll get one that's
- 32:25Speaker 2: a little you know, Lena, Little Lena a little fits
- 32:28Speaker 2: my body type a bit more. But I didn't go
- 32:30Speaker 2: to Last Eggs and I went to I don't think
- 32:32Speaker 2: I went to Red Bubble. I think I went to
- 32:33Speaker 2: some like a team who say Gina and got it
- 32:39Speaker 2: and it's like, yeah, this logo is not quite right
- 32:43Speaker 2: and this material is a little scratchy, and yeah, go
- 32:48Speaker 2: go with what you know, man, go with the go
- 32:50Speaker 2: with your yeah, the name you can trust.
- 32:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Well, I bought some shirts recently from They say they
- 32:56Speaker 1: ship from California. The ship from California. There's some guy
- 32:59Speaker 1: making shirts in Sydney and he hides behind the whole
- 33:03Speaker 1: we' shiving from California. So due to the expensive shipping,
- 33:06Speaker 1: we can't do refunds. And I'm like, return level on
- 33:09Speaker 1: this postal parcels says Sydney. So we said he's back
- 33:14Speaker 1: to there because these shirts are ship quality, and yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: because the photos in you can tell when a shirt
- 33:21Speaker 1: on the photo, you can tell it's like a flexible
- 33:22Speaker 1: one or it was all like a sort of stiff
- 33:23Speaker 1: shitty one. And it looks really loose fitting and really
- 33:26Speaker 1: nice and comfortable on the picture. Of course I get
- 33:29Speaker 1: it and I go, oh, it's this And the pictures
- 33:32Speaker 1: like twice is half the size of what it was
- 33:33Speaker 1: on the picture. In the picture, the logo design goes
- 33:36Speaker 1: from top to bottom of the shirt. This is like
- 33:38Speaker 1: in the middle. Ah, yeah, I mean.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Nah, no thanks, but yeah, my recommendation name you can
- 33:44Speaker 2: dress last Eggs no where.
- 33:45Speaker 1: So apparently red Bubble as well. But even red Bubble
- 33:48Speaker 1: is a bit like Etsy and Bootleg, isn't it. Yeah,
- 33:51Speaker 1: and it's got various creators. Yes, yes, I created this one.
- 33:55Speaker 1: They did a very good, very good job. I'll take
- 33:57Speaker 1: a photo of this and put it, put it in
- 33:58Speaker 1: the Patreon group, and a picture of my book and
- 34:00Speaker 1: put it. That's a really cool shirt because you can
- 34:03Speaker 1: also wear it not at Christmas time. It's a Christmas shirt.
- 34:06Speaker 1: That's also just a cool shirts in July. You could
- 34:10Speaker 1: do that. People say it's Christmas in July. It's just
- 34:13Speaker 1: a cool shirt. Isn't it. I think everyone I know
- 34:16Speaker 1: you like home alone, and I know you're not being naked,
- 34:18Speaker 1: so all right, Well, there's gift gigging for this year.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'm not going to do giggity again. That's going to
- 34:25Speaker 1: be a recurring thing, the gift gigging. It's some of
- 34:30Speaker 1: the gift gig Yes, So I was kind of hoping.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I hope he doesn't have this die Hard book already.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I do not. Now I do because I gave you
- 34:37Speaker 1: that out of the book. What's book I gave you
- 34:38Speaker 1: last year, last birthday? What was the moon lighting we
- 34:41Speaker 1: likening one? That's right? Yeah, And I was like, he's
- 34:42Speaker 1: surely got this book.
- 34:52Speaker 8: Hey, four Finger Discount fans, this is editor and patron
- 34:56Speaker 8: Zach Pruett, dropping in to say hello and Merry Christmas
- 34:59Speaker 8: and Happy Hi Holidays and all that. From one fan
- 35:02Speaker 8: to another, thank you very much for being a part

- 35:11Speaker 8: and of course I appreciate Guy and Dando, those two
- 35:15Speaker 8: absolute legends, for creating this community in the space and
- 35:19Speaker 8: also allowing me to be a small part of it.
- 35:22Speaker 8: It means so much to me. Four Finger Discount is
- 35:25Speaker 8: the podcast that inspired me to start down my own
- 35:28Speaker 8: path of podcasting, so now to be a small part
- 35:32Speaker 8: of it through editing, it just means so much to me,
- 35:34Speaker 8: and I still can't get over that. I don't have
- 35:36Speaker 8: enough time to tell you how much that means to me.
- 35:38Speaker 8: But I do want to close this message with big
- 35:41Speaker 8: ups and thank you in a holiday hello to Guy
- 35:44Speaker 8: and Dando for everything they do bringing us all so
- 35:47Speaker 8: much joy and again letting me be a very small
- 35:50Speaker 8: part of it. And secondly to suggest that you all
- 35:53Speaker 8: check out these podcasts.
- 35:55Speaker 1: That I do.
- 35:55Speaker 8: In case you're interested in some more rewatch content, check
- 35:59Speaker 8: out link tree com slash Can't Disappoint podcast to see
- 36:03Speaker 8: all of those podcasts. I've done a community one a
- 36:06Speaker 8: the Good Place Rewatch podcasts and it broke back be
- 36:09Speaker 8: about podcast It's all there. I would love for you
- 36:11Speaker 8: to check it out. But most importantly, Merry Christmas, Happy holidays,
- 36:15Speaker 8: and all the best in the new year.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Okay everybody. Nikola has joined us for the four Finger
- 36:21Speaker 1: Discount twenty twenty four Christmas special. She has done working
- 36:24Speaker 1: for a week. She works two days and the next
- 36:27Speaker 1: fortnight now, I've been getting lots of questions lately, Nicola
- 36:30Speaker 1: on our listeners and our patrons and how many supporters
- 36:33Speaker 1: here at four finger Discount. I've been asking where the
- 36:35Speaker 1: hell is the One About Friends. So basically what's happened
- 36:38Speaker 1: is we've recorded a couple episodes in the can, but
- 36:41Speaker 1: we've decided we're going to relaunch it in the new year.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Give us a couple of weeks off so we can
- 36:45Speaker 1: kick off with a bang. It's always nice to have
- 36:46Speaker 1: an episode up your sleeve. So at the beginning of
- 36:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, the One About Friends have been coming
- 36:50Speaker 1: to you every single week once again, Nikola, as I've
- 36:54Speaker 1: already made you, guys are wear on. The podcast got
- 36:55Speaker 1: promoted earlier in the year, and work's just been very busy,
- 36:59Speaker 1: so we thought, rather then make nicholas life if more stressful,
- 37:02Speaker 1: we'll take some time off from the podcast. But now
- 37:04Speaker 1: Nichola's got on top of things, on the top of things,
- 37:06Speaker 1: We're all on the top of things, kids are at school, organized,
- 37:08Speaker 1: got our schedules going. So every single week it's going
- 37:11Speaker 1: to be every single Wednesday being a release a new
- 37:13Speaker 1: episode of the One About Friends. Here on the Forefing
- 37:14Speaker 1: of Discant Network and I'm excited.
- 37:16Speaker 9: My goodness, locked in inact.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I found the episode we recorded with your mum in England.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Oh yes, so it's been sitting there in the archive
- 37:25Speaker 1: and one of the hard drives. I just couldn't find
- 37:27Speaker 1: it anywhere and I found it. So that's going to
- 37:28Speaker 1: be coming out as well. That's going to be an
- 37:30Speaker 1: exclusive for our patreons. So if you supports on Patreon,
- 37:32Speaker 1: you get the early access to our review of the
- 37:35Speaker 1: one with Ross's wedding, which were recorded with Nichola's mum
- 37:37Speaker 1: in the UK.
- 37:39Speaker 9: I mean, did she actually contribute to the episode review?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Got the review part, but she came in and spoke
- 37:43Speaker 1: for a good fifteen twenty minutes at the start. It
- 37:45Speaker 1: was nice.
- 37:45Speaker 9: Yeah, shen have to re listen to that.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Yeah, so Christmas time you finished work? You excited?
- 37:51Speaker 9: Oh it's so good. I am excited. But obviously, like
- 37:54Speaker 9: you know, we've got a list as long as i'
- 37:56Speaker 9: are on for tonight for housework and getting on top
- 37:58Speaker 9: of the stuff. But yeah, we've done a big shop. We
- 38:01Speaker 9: like I staged it all out, like I've staggered my
- 38:03Speaker 9: jobs around myself. A list for each night of the
- 38:05Speaker 9: last few nights, it's like do a bit, do a bit,
- 38:07Speaker 9: do a bit. So just the big, big old job
- 38:09Speaker 9: of the floor floors tonight. So I am feeling so
- 38:13Speaker 9: much better. I'm very pleased. I'm not gonna get my
- 38:16Speaker 9: laptop out. I'm just gonna focus on what we want
- 38:18Speaker 9: to do for our Christmas.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Nicola gets to clean and I get to rat presents.
- 38:23Speaker 1: He's been trying to clear the house down. And guess
- 38:24Speaker 1: what did I do today, Nicolave? What did I do?
- 38:26Speaker 9: I went shopping, like.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Shopping, I already had. What's I bring home today? Yeah?
- 38:31Speaker 9: Well a giant ossie beach Santa Fell.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Two meter dancing Santa Claus.
- 38:36Speaker 9: Yeah, it's just what I needed.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Kids love it. I walked in. The first she said
- 38:40Speaker 1: was can I push play please?
- 38:41Speaker 9: It's like when I walked into your great uncle's house
- 38:44Speaker 9: the other day and he presented two life sized teddy
- 38:46Speaker 9: Bears that he just found cheap at the stuff. Thought, hmm,
- 38:49Speaker 9: this is where Brendan gets it from. It's all in
- 38:52Speaker 9: the jeans and the blood.
- 38:53Speaker 5: That's it.
- 38:54Speaker 1: That's it.
- 38:54Speaker 9: So really not what I needed is two extra life
- 38:57Speaker 9: sized teddy Bears in my house.
- 38:58Speaker 1: But the kids will what are you hopping for Christmas?
- 39:01Speaker 9: What am I hoping for for Christmas?
- 39:03Speaker 1: For myself? World peace?
- 39:05Speaker 7: No?
- 39:06Speaker 9: I mean, yeah, that'd be great. What am I hoping for?
- 39:09Speaker 1: Well? Is this way?
- 39:09Speaker 9: You get me to tell you what I want and
- 39:11Speaker 9: then you go shopping tomorrow or.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Try to go shopping this morning, And there was two
- 39:16Speaker 1: men staying at the front, going, you can't come in here.
- 39:18Speaker 1: It's full.
- 39:20Speaker 9: Oh that's actually crazy, Like I can't believe it, Like
- 39:22Speaker 9: I don't think I've ever seen it.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Like I've seen it, say full, but I've never seen
- 39:28Speaker 1: men standing at the front saying you must you shove
- 39:30Speaker 1: my pass.
- 39:31Speaker 9: Basically, we have gridlock in here. We've got a situation.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they said that some people have gone the wrong
- 39:37Speaker 1: direction in here, and they can't let people get out
- 39:39Speaker 1: until these people. They can't let people come in until
- 39:41Speaker 1: these people find a way out. And I thought there
- 39:43Speaker 1: are people trapped in the car.
- 39:44Speaker 9: But you know, I've just realized your mom sent you
- 39:48Speaker 9: await like what you pick the kids up super early
- 39:50Speaker 9: this morning so she could go and do jobs. Firstly,
- 39:53Speaker 9: did she cause it? What was she stuck in it?
- 39:56Speaker 6: Oh?
- 39:56Speaker 1: My god, image, my mum wouldn't have left until six
- 40:00Speaker 1: thirty tonight because she's would have gone, oh it's op
- 40:01Speaker 1: until night. I've got all day.
- 40:04Speaker 9: Yeah, she hustled the kids out of the house at
- 40:06Speaker 9: aam sharp but no though, to be fair, that was nice.
- 40:08Speaker 9: They had the kids for us a little impromptu sleepover.
- 40:11Speaker 9: We did Christmas Lights last night, although Holly made it
- 40:15Speaker 9: about three houses in before she was snoring.
- 40:17Speaker 1: True to form, she always falls asleep in the first
- 40:18Speaker 1: ten minutes one hundred percent.
- 40:20Speaker 10: You know.
- 40:20Speaker 9: Well, the thing is because you sort of you go
- 40:22Speaker 9: a bit late to day, so it's Hobart caught to
- 40:23Speaker 9: wait I think before we left. But then the weather
- 40:25Speaker 9: was so bad, wasn't it.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Well it's weird because people listening in America and in
- 40:29Speaker 1: England are going, what are you talking about? In Australia
- 40:31Speaker 1: summer right now? Daylight savings, which means it literally doesn't
- 40:33Speaker 1: get dark dark till between nine nine thirty at least. Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 1: it's been hot. Onto Christmas Day it's gonna be thirty
- 40:39Speaker 1: five and then we're taking Elliott and Holly. My parents
- 40:42Speaker 1: are coming, much of their chagrin apparently to the Boxing
- 40:45Speaker 1: Day test between Australia and India. It's going to be
- 40:47Speaker 1: forty degrees one hundred thousand people at the MCG, so.
- 40:51Speaker 9: It's like forty in the air, and then it's actually
- 40:52Speaker 9: like forty six in the crowds because of all the bodies.
- 40:55Speaker 1: What's because you guys do celsius in England too?
- 40:57Speaker 10: Right?
- 40:57Speaker 1: Yes, we did. What's fahrenheit for our American still have
- 40:59Speaker 1: a look I lookt up here.
- 41:00Speaker 9: One hundred degrees I think is when they say it's hot.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, we didn't tell you what you want to
- 41:04Speaker 1: By the way, what did you want?
- 41:05Speaker 9: I skirted that one tonight.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 9: Well I've shared a few things with you. I wanted
- 41:09Speaker 9: some I wanted some more exercise matts. I wanted some
- 41:13Speaker 9: more weights, heavier weights. I'm getting strong.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Well it's two days before Christmash. I haven't got these
- 41:18Speaker 1: things by now. I'm in trouble, all right. Forty degrees
- 41:20Speaker 1: celsius to fahrenheit is one hundred and four Wow, I alsough.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It was weird because when the sound like kids the
- 41:26Speaker 1: movie that you know, I Love You always goes it's
- 41:28Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty degrees outside, and I always thought
- 41:30Speaker 1: as a kid, and the kid's exaggerating degrees, that's so
- 41:34Speaker 1: fahrenheit to celsius. I still think it's exaggerated because that's
- 41:37Speaker 1: sixty five degrees celsias something quite think, No it ever
- 41:39Speaker 1: got to that.
- 41:40Speaker 9: I don't think so either. What is one hundred degrees
- 41:42Speaker 9: fahrenheit in celsius?
- 41:43Speaker 1: Because that's when one hundred fahrenheit that's when what well.
- 41:46Speaker 9: That's when people in friends complain it's hot.
- 41:48Speaker 1: So thirty seven that it's pretty well, yeah, pretty hip. Yeah,
- 41:51Speaker 1: So I was going to ask you. So it was
- 41:53Speaker 1: weights It was Jim Matt as you can tell, Nicholas
- 41:55Speaker 1: getting fit at the moment.
- 41:57Speaker 9: It was I wanted some those shoes, the ones with
- 42:00Speaker 9: the arch support. I actually wanted some new glasses, and
- 42:03Speaker 9: Brindy said, no, you can do that yourself.
- 42:05Speaker 1: I'm not gonna buy. I'm happy to put towards something.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to buy glasses because that's that's the
- 42:11Speaker 1: thing that you're gonna wear every day. I don't want
- 42:12Speaker 1: so on buying. No, I know.
- 42:13Speaker 9: But my point is, like the thing is I would
- 42:16Speaker 9: have gone with you, like we could have gone and
- 42:17Speaker 9: you could have financially contributed. When I say you, I
- 42:19Speaker 9: mean our bank money. No, our bank account would have
- 42:22Speaker 9: paid for our gifts like that's how it work. That's
- 42:24Speaker 9: why I thought, oh, well, you know, there's not a
- 42:26Speaker 9: lot that I want, so I thought that would be
- 42:29Speaker 9: something useful that I could also get for Christmas.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But anyway, that's fine. I'm happy before we wrap up
- 42:35Speaker 1: because we haven't got much time here in the card
- 42:36Speaker 1: and you got to mop the floors, and now I've
- 42:38Speaker 1: got a rap presence and Elliot's still singing songs to
- 42:39Speaker 1: himself out there keeping quiet. Favorite Christmas movie, stop your head.
- 42:43Speaker 9: Oh well, my mind went to jingle yeah, jingle all
- 42:47Speaker 9: the way because we just watched it. It was just on,
- 42:51Speaker 9: and I realized there's probably a couple that I haven't
- 42:52Speaker 9: I haven't seen, like Deck the Halls was just up.
- 42:54Speaker 9: I don't know that I've actually ever seen that. No,
- 42:57Speaker 9: I've watched I've watched that one many many, many moons ago.
- 43:00Speaker 9: But I absolutely love Love Love Actually, and so my
- 43:04Speaker 9: Christmas tradition is having a Bailey's on Christmas Eve and
- 43:07Speaker 9: watching Love Actually and rapping presents. So that is what
- 43:10Speaker 9: tomorrow night will consist of, although we do need to
- 43:12Speaker 9: start some tonight because every Christmas Eve if we do
- 43:15Speaker 9: this and Brendan after about midnight and Brandon, I'm just
- 43:18Speaker 9: too seriously, Like you know, I start at like eight
- 43:21Speaker 9: thirty and I've had a couple of baileies and it's midnight,
- 43:23Speaker 9: and I just.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Spent wonder why I'm Nigglie in the morning.
- 43:26Speaker 9: I know, and then he's up till stupid o'clock. But
- 43:27Speaker 9: you know he is Santa, so try.
- 43:29Speaker 1: To be more. Sorry, spoiler, come on, Nicholas, Elliet's listening.
- 43:33Speaker 1: What are you talking about? Good one, mam, No, he's
- 43:35Speaker 1: not listening. We've been talking about underrated I say underrated
- 43:38Speaker 1: Christmas specials on here. So we've been talking about Christmas
- 43:41Speaker 1: theme episodes of shows that we like and ones that
- 43:44Speaker 1: you may not be aware of. And I mentioned the
- 43:45Speaker 1: hand or one to Guy and I was going to
- 43:47Speaker 1: mention one to Mitch. It was called it's called Oi
- 43:49Speaker 1: to the World. It's the Nanny Christmas Special. Want to
- 43:51Speaker 1: throw that one out there now before I run out
- 43:53Speaker 1: of time. OI to the World. I think it's from
- 43:54Speaker 1: season three. It's really weird because even if you don't
- 43:57Speaker 1: like The Nanny, I love the fact that the balls
- 43:59Speaker 1: to do this. It is not a live actual and
- 44:01Speaker 1: it's completely animated. Sorry, The Nanny. The Nanny season three.
- 44:04Speaker 1: The Christmas episode is called Oi to the World because
- 44:07Speaker 1: because she's Jewish, right and she the whole show is animated.
- 44:11Speaker 1: It's an animated Nanny Christmas special. I'm pretty sure we
- 44:14Speaker 1: skipped it because like is anime not watching it. But
- 44:17Speaker 1: it's really fun and there's no laugh track. It just
- 44:18Speaker 1: feels like you're watching a proper Christmas special, but it's
- 44:20Speaker 1: any characters. They go to the North Pole and the
- 44:23Speaker 1: villain is CC. She's up there and yeah, it's good,
- 44:25Speaker 1: like kid family or not really, of course it is.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Yeah, it's good.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So Oi to the World.
- 44:30Speaker 9: Over breakfast tomorrow morning, kids. Let's put this on.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Which Christen's episode do you like the most? Is that
- 44:35Speaker 1: the one with the holiday armadillo? No, I really like it.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I like that scene. It stands out to me. It's
- 44:40Speaker 1: a memorable scene.
- 44:41Speaker 9: No, just the armadillo is a bit like I think
- 44:44Speaker 9: it's one of those it was just on all the time.
- 44:46Speaker 9: It's a bit overrated.
- 44:47Speaker 1: But so what is your christ favorite Christmas episode? Then?
- 44:49Speaker 1: Are there many?
- 44:50Speaker 9: There's a few, you know, there's a few.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I don't.
- 44:51Speaker 9: I think they pretty much did one every year, but
- 44:53Speaker 9: it wasn't necessarily centered around with Christmas Day.
- 44:55Speaker 1: The first one wasn't any it was it was a
- 44:57Speaker 1: broad Christmas, but it wasn't really Christmas episode. Is that right?
- 45:01Speaker 5: Like?
- 45:01Speaker 1: Also has a definitive ranking of Friends Christo Maybe was
- 45:03Speaker 1: that a podcast about that? My favorite Friends Christmas episode?
- 45:06Speaker 9: I think we've talked about it before, but go on
- 45:08Speaker 9: real off the top five and I'll give.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Him as a step forward season forward, Ross freaking out
- 45:15Speaker 1: because Mona wants to do a joint Christmas card. We
- 45:17Speaker 1: have the one with all the candy Ross buying. Phoebe's
- 45:21Speaker 1: the bike she never had as a kid is in that,
- 45:23Speaker 1: but it's all about Monica. Monica does have a treat
- 45:27Speaker 1: that's not really Christmas episode, the one with the Christmas
- 45:29Speaker 1: in Tulsa.
- 45:30Speaker 9: Yeah, that's the one that came to mind, So that
- 45:31Speaker 9: one of Christmas in Tulsa where Chandler essentially quits his
- 45:35Speaker 9: job to come home because he's just like it's a
- 45:37Speaker 9: great one. Yeah, yeah, missing out on life basically for
- 45:41Speaker 9: this place. But also one of the early years I
- 45:44Speaker 9: think it might even be season is it?
- 45:46Speaker 1: No?
- 45:47Speaker 9: Maybe season two? Phoebe goes looking for a dad and
- 45:50Speaker 9: she can't go in, and so they sit outside in.
- 45:52Speaker 1: The taxi for theah.
- 45:53Speaker 9: By the time they get home, it's Christmas Day.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Phoe's dad. That's number one here, that's the one we reviewed.
- 45:59Speaker 9: Struck midnight obviously Christmas Day, but they brought things from
- 46:01Speaker 9: the petrol station. I think it was like toilet tea cut.
- 46:06Speaker 9: They're ribbed your pleasure. Hey everyone, it's Pat and Katie

- 48:21Speaker 1: going a day one sold out coming to I don't
- 48:24Speaker 1: think is gonna come because poomb would do pumba toots
- 48:27Speaker 1: and you'll stick the whole train out.
- 48:30Speaker 4: You can't have dogs.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Bag the don't play with me sometimes pump with the
- 48:35Speaker 1: stinky toots in here and uncle guy guys pa and
- 48:39Speaker 1: we have to stop because he's a damn dirty dog.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Do that he does? Indeed? All right? Anyway, guys, that
- 48:45Speaker 1: is all we're gonna talk about here on the Christmas Special.
- 48:47Speaker 4: We're about to pack up.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Please say thank you to everybody for listening. I do
- 48:51Speaker 1: want to say thanks everybody. Thanks you listen, good job,

- 48:59Speaker 4: Ye?
- 49:01Speaker 1: Bye guys, Bye, guys. All those kids are there. Shenanigan's adorable, adorable,
- 49:10Speaker 1: So I thought, just something different. Let's talk about underrated
- 49:13Speaker 1: Christmas specials and movies or you know whatever that people
- 49:16Speaker 1: might not have heard of nov or whatever. I'll let
- 49:18Speaker 1: you start, well, yeah, may I do a little bit
- 49:20Speaker 1: of cross promotion.
- 49:22Speaker 2: We are in twenty twenty four, after all, and everybody's
- 49:24Speaker 2: their own marketing department. But friend of the pot, Charlie Lawson,
- 49:29Speaker 2: legitimate friend of the pod, Charlie Lawson.
- 49:30Speaker 1: He came on to review the Last Temptation of Home
- 49:32Speaker 1: I BELI did. Indeed, I will occasionally go out on
- 49:36Speaker 1: my own. I will go rogue and record a podcast
- 49:39Speaker 1: or two with Charlie. We did one not long ago
- 49:40Speaker 1: where we talked about underrated or slightly left of sender
- 49:45Speaker 1: Christmas movies. I'm happy to sort of talk about one
- 49:47Speaker 1: of those that I talked about on that podcast on
- 49:50Speaker 1: this podcast because I'm lazy and I don't want to
- 49:52Speaker 1: think too much. Batman.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Everybody likes Batman and Batman Returns is set at Christmas
- 49:59Speaker 2: time and I I really love but it's probably one
- 50:01Speaker 2: of my favorite Batman movies.
- 50:02Speaker 1: You say it's underrated, though I would not.
- 50:06Speaker 2: It's not necessarily one of those ones that make Yeah,
- 50:08Speaker 2: it hasn't reached. Diehard's a Christmas movie yet, but you
- 50:11Speaker 2: can say, well.
- 50:13Speaker 1: It will, hopefully it will. Recently, it's fucking out there
- 50:16Speaker 1: that movie. It's an odd ass movie, and it's not
- 50:18Speaker 1: for kids. It's freaky ass. Yeah, it's freaky. He bicycle's nose. Yeah,
- 50:23Speaker 1: it is.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Bloody and sexy and kinky, and for all those reasons
- 50:29Speaker 2: and many more, I adore it.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a big fan.
- 50:32Speaker 2: But also it just it feels odd to say it's
- 50:34Speaker 2: Christmasy because it is set at Christmas time. You know,
- 50:37Speaker 2: you've got the ice Princess and the big Christmas tree
- 50:39Speaker 2: and all that stuff.
- 50:40Speaker 1: But also the way it's made.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I mean, it feels like, for me, like an old
- 50:44Speaker 2: timey movie, like something from the forties or fifties, And
- 50:47Speaker 2: when I was growing up, that's the kind of stuff
- 50:48Speaker 2: that I would watch on TV or on Christmas Time,
- 50:50Speaker 2: like an old musical, something like meet Me in Saint
- 50:53Speaker 2: Louis or meet Me in Saint Lewis.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Whoever, my apologies to the people of that city, Louis.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I think that's how they sing it, Okay, Yeah, I
- 51:02Speaker 1: think I think Louis probably rhymes some more stuff than Lewis. Yeah,
- 51:06Speaker 1: they sang it wrong. They're too cheap to fix it. Yeah,
- 51:09Speaker 1: fucking up, Judy Garton, No, say Louis, I don't know.
- 51:15Speaker 2: It's just got a very kind of big, gordy quote
- 51:19Speaker 2: unquote artificial feel that feels like Christmas to me. It
- 51:22Speaker 2: feels like you're going to the mall and seeing a
- 51:24Speaker 2: huge tree and a fat dude dressed up as Santa.
- 51:27Speaker 2: You know, the actual Santa couldn't be there.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 2: No, it just gives me a warm glow. And then
- 51:32Speaker 2: it's got all that, as I said, the bloodiness and
- 51:34Speaker 2: the kinkiness and the weirdness that just you know, it's
- 51:36Speaker 2: a little spice in your egg nog.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Batman's barely in it as well. That's the thing as well,
- 51:40Speaker 1: going is this a Batman movie? What is that?
- 51:43Speaker 6: Not?
- 51:43Speaker 1: Really?
- 51:44Speaker 2: I mean, I get the feeling because this is directed
- 51:46Speaker 2: by Tim Burton, it's his follow up to the nineteen
- 51:48Speaker 2: eighty nine Batman.
- 51:50Speaker 1: It feels like it was keeping busy when they made
- 51:52Speaker 1: this movie. He got busy, certainly because I think he
- 51:57Speaker 1: he had had a past relationship with Michelle Fire, who
- 51:59Speaker 1: plays camp Woman, saying you really feel the chemistry between
- 52:02Speaker 1: the two of those. That's great, but you.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Get the feeling that when he made. When Burton made
- 52:07Speaker 2: the first Batman, it was kind of like, you're making
- 52:09Speaker 2: a Batman movie. You've got this ip work color within
- 52:12Speaker 2: these lines, give a little bit of that Tim Burton flavor.
- 52:14Speaker 2: And it did like gang Basters and Tim Burton becomes
- 52:17Speaker 2: a real name brand. When he got to the second one,
- 52:19Speaker 2: he's like, I want to do make Tim Burton thing
- 52:21Speaker 2: and they're like, it seems to have worked so far.
- 52:23Speaker 1: He delivers this and they went, oh no, no again.
- 52:29Speaker 2: I get a lot of say the line, but you know,
- 52:30Speaker 2: my favorite line from that chat I had with the
- 52:33Speaker 2: late great Joel Schumacher when he was directing Batman movies.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Like the movies make billions, The movies make millions, the
- 52:38Speaker 2: toys make billions.
- 52:41Speaker 1: I don't want to play with this penguin. Well mc
- 52:42Speaker 1: donald's pulled the plug on their marketing. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 52:45Speaker 1: Like I watched his going kids ain't gonna want to
- 52:47Speaker 1: fucking penguin toy?
- 52:48Speaker 2: Okay, Well, Dando, you have two lovely children after you
- 52:53Speaker 2: put them to bed, and Holly's.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Like, I don't want to go to bed. I don't
- 52:56Speaker 1: want to go get better or the penguin. I'll got you.
- 53:00Speaker 1: That's a that's a good.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Technique, but you know, you might want to cuddle on
- 53:03Speaker 2: the couch with your beloved. And I don't know, watch
- 53:06Speaker 2: Batman and Catwoman just sort of you know, I.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Don't see my Batman rap up. The sexual time were
- 53:12Speaker 1: shoemaker films. That's why I have When I was kidding,
- 53:14Speaker 1: I watched it going I'll watch it now as an
- 53:16Speaker 1: adult with the kids, and I go, kids can watch this.
- 53:18Speaker 1: It's made for kids. People hate it at the time.
- 53:20Speaker 1: These people and did exactly what they that's true telling you,
- 53:23Speaker 1: I Reckon Schumacher did to a t what he was
- 53:26Speaker 1: asked to do.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think he understood this, Simon absolutely and
- 53:29Speaker 2: he brought a bit of his shoemaker goodness to it
- 53:32Speaker 2: as well.
- 53:32Speaker 1: It's so corny and ridiculous. But that's exactly the.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Other thing though, if you're talking about Batman Forever or
- 53:37Speaker 2: Batman and Robin or both of them, Batman Forever and
- 53:40Speaker 2: was about it not as kinky as Returns, But I
- 53:42Speaker 2: mean the stuff with Kilmer and Kidman is kind of
- 53:45Speaker 2: like these.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Hot damn and carry as Riddler in his absolute prime
- 53:50Speaker 1: carry and you had Tom of the Jones trying to
- 53:52Speaker 1: be carried Yeah, that's party sanction. That the thing is,
- 53:57Speaker 1: the thing is you know why it works. It was
- 54:00Speaker 1: a success, So Batman Returns was a marketing not a failure.
- 54:06Speaker 1: But when McDonald's pulled the plug on the happy Meal toys,
- 54:08Speaker 1: you know you're fucked up right. One of the most
- 54:11Speaker 1: iconic McDonald's things of all time, like toys haveing meal
- 54:14Speaker 1: things was the Batman Forever glasses. Every nineties kid I
- 54:19Speaker 1: never having in America. In Australia we did. We've also
- 54:21Speaker 1: got them. They are they are just iconic. Every ossy
- 54:24Speaker 1: kitchen had at least one of these glasses in the
- 54:27Speaker 1: kitchen in the cupboards, and they're just so great. They're styleized.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I'll show them. They're fantastic, right. This movie was just
- 54:32Speaker 1: perfectly made. Four kids. I remember all the marketing, all
- 54:35Speaker 1: the toys. It was like it was just a great
- 54:38Speaker 1: granted not great Batman movies or what the previous ones were,
- 54:41Speaker 1: but as in a capsule perfect. Oh yeah. When we're
- 54:44Speaker 1: recording this.
- 54:46Speaker 2: A couple of hours ago, the first trailer for James
- 54:49Speaker 2: Gung Superman movie dropped.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Okay, have you watched it yet? Have you seen this?
- 54:53Speaker 1: Have you heard about this? Sorry, of course you're gonna
- 54:55Speaker 1: of course some.
- 54:58Speaker 2: I think you'll enjoy it because it's first of all,
- 55:02Speaker 2: it's got like a this is gonna sound that, but
- 55:05Speaker 2: it works. It's like a rock guitar version of John
- 55:07Speaker 2: Williams a Superman theme, kind of good. The guy playing
- 55:11Speaker 2: Superman looks great.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Either really slow with the piano or rocky. And it's
- 55:15Speaker 1: not they don't go full you know, rock out with
- 55:18Speaker 1: your cockadd it's.
- 55:18Speaker 2: More it's not bad dude. But overall, and of course
- 55:30Speaker 2: it's based on just a two minute trailer, so they're
- 55:32Speaker 2: trying to sell you on something. But it feels like
- 55:35Speaker 2: a steer away from the very serious stuff, which with
- 55:41Speaker 2: the Nolan Batman's and with the Zack Snyder Superman's, it
- 55:44Speaker 2: feels like, oh, this is a bit more cartoonish, a
- 55:47Speaker 2: little lighthearted, and it's got some seriousness to it. But
- 55:50Speaker 2: it's like this looks big and goofy and weird, and
- 55:53Speaker 2: sincere I think it's gonna think it's actually gonna be
- 55:56Speaker 2: really good. My my expectations of it were kind of like,
- 56:00Speaker 2: but it feels it doesn't feel quite as gordy as
- 56:03Speaker 2: like the Shoemaker Batman's, but it feels like oh, these
- 56:05Speaker 2: are meant to be fun.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Yeah, these are kind of meant to be fun. I
- 56:08Speaker 1: said to I was saying to a Mitch, maybe message you,
- 56:11Speaker 1: maybe mystery. I just had a random thought with Mitch
- 56:13Speaker 1: is a huge Superman fan. I messaged him saying, does
- 56:17Speaker 1: it bother you that kids in twenty twenty four, if
- 56:19Speaker 1: you walked up to any child and sai, who's you
- 56:20Speaker 1: favorite superhero? None of them a saying Batman or Superman anymore?
- 56:23Speaker 1: And that just is a sign that DC are fucked
- 56:25Speaker 1: up because every kid's favorite superhero now's either spider Man, Iroman,
- 56:30Speaker 1: it's all Marvel. When I was growing up, it was
- 56:32Speaker 1: you're either Superman kid or you're a Batman kid. Okay,
- 56:35Speaker 1: because well there was no Marvel films, you know what
- 56:36Speaker 1: I mean? That's true, But now like no kid wants
- 56:40Speaker 1: to be Maybe you get a costume. But if you
- 56:41Speaker 1: say to a kid, who's you favorite superhero, they're not
- 56:43Speaker 1: saying Batman, They're not saying Superman.
- 56:45Speaker 2: No, Batman's a little bit more for sort of I've
- 56:48Speaker 2: not too serious teenage edge lords and old Mastard like
- 56:52Speaker 2: me and Superman.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Certain i'd say Daredevil. Wol. I'm gonna go on a
- 56:56Speaker 1: limon say, I don't think Superman's call anymore. Well, no,
- 56:58Speaker 1: but Superman was never cool, but he felt When I
- 57:01Speaker 1: was a kid, it felt cool the due can fly.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, when flying like that's that's a superperwerent of stuff.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Now kids are so accustomed to the Avengers films, where
- 57:10Speaker 1: it's just constant fucking people flying around bashing into each other,
- 57:13Speaker 1: like the idea of this guy can fly and what Yeah,
- 57:16Speaker 1: they've just have taken the aura of Superman.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Well yeah, the tough thing with Superman was like, well,
- 57:21Speaker 2: you know, who can threaten this guy?
- 57:24Speaker 1: We've made him. We made this guy too good? But
- 57:28Speaker 1: cheat code. That's true.
- 57:29Speaker 2: But anyway, but that's coming out next year. But the
- 57:32Speaker 2: trailer is fantastic and I'm really.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Looking forward to it. But my Christmas Special, yeah, and
- 57:38Speaker 1: I was better to say that, but I'm done. I
- 57:41Speaker 1: wanted to get something that's completely different. I knew you'd
- 57:44Speaker 1: go something that's more adult based. I've gone to something
- 57:47Speaker 1: that I am particularly for nineties kids. I think a
- 57:49Speaker 1: lot of our listeners are nineties kids, my age whatever, Yes,
- 57:52Speaker 1: And I think and the show Hay Hannold, I've brought
- 57:54Speaker 1: it up very a lot one of my favorite shows
- 57:56Speaker 1: still to this day. Kids love watching Hayndold now they
- 57:59Speaker 1: love it. It's funny how the kids call him hay
- 58:01Speaker 1: Hanold his name is actually because it's interesting. I didn't
- 58:06Speaker 1: realize this until a lot later. So Dan Castlentta does
- 58:10Speaker 1: the voice of his grandpa. So do you know that
- 58:12Speaker 1: the purpose of the show this is his grandpa and
- 58:14Speaker 1: grandma in a It's like it's like a house of
- 58:16Speaker 1: various people live in it, like a boarding house. It's
- 58:18Speaker 1: almost like a boarding house basically. Yeah, it's like all
- 58:21Speaker 1: these different red ruined apartment block. Maybe it's like an
- 58:23Speaker 1: apartment building or whatever. Yeah, and they they're the landlords,
- 58:25Speaker 1: the landlands of building. Yes, but they all all have
- 58:27Speaker 1: they share the same kitchen and what that kind of thing.
- 58:29Speaker 1: So it's like a family vibe. But they all have
- 58:31Speaker 1: their own rooms in his apartment. This sounds more like
- 58:32Speaker 1: a boarding house. Yeah, yeah, boarding house maybe. Yeah. So
- 58:35Speaker 1: so Dan Castlett does the voice of grandpa, and trust me,
- 58:37Speaker 1: Neil has the voice of the grandma. But they always
- 58:39Speaker 1: go hey short man, Hew you going hey short man.
- 58:41Speaker 1: And later in the show you find out his last
- 58:43Speaker 1: name short man. It's Adam's short man. But this Christmas
- 58:46Speaker 1: is called Arnold's Christmas. It's from season one of the show,
- 58:49Speaker 1: and it's just got a really sweet, beautiful story. So
- 58:52Speaker 1: there's a I'm pretty sure mister Hunt is Vietnamese. Back
- 58:55Speaker 1: when he was a lot younger, he had a daughter May.
- 58:57Speaker 1: We never see his wife, and I'm assuming she must beast.
- 59:00Speaker 1: But they come to a point where they were escaping
- 59:02Speaker 1: on a helicopter and then he had room for one
- 59:04Speaker 1: more and he said, well, I want my daughter to
- 59:06Speaker 1: have a better life, so he puts the daughter, baby May,
- 59:08Speaker 1: on the helicopter. She gets taken and he finds out
- 59:10Speaker 1: that she was in this city, which is why he
- 59:11Speaker 1: moved to the city where Arnold lives, and he's trying
- 59:14Speaker 1: to track her down, but he can't track her down.
- 59:15Speaker 1: So Arnold's Christmas wish is to track down his daughter,
- 59:18Speaker 1: who's much older now, and reunite her with her father. Arnold.
- 59:21Speaker 1: What a lord, what a show. It's fantastic, sounds a
- 59:24Speaker 1: really nice. I'm sort of not tearing up, but yeah, close, yeah, Becau.
- 59:27Speaker 1: It's just you know, you never really know much about
- 59:29Speaker 1: the guy and you find out, oh, he's here because
- 59:30Speaker 1: he's trying to track down his daughter who he wanted
- 59:32Speaker 1: to give a better life to, and Arnold's Christmas wishes
- 59:34Speaker 1: to reunite them. And you're like, oh my god, all right, spoiler,
- 59:37Speaker 1: is there a reunion there? Of course there is, yeah,
- 59:39Speaker 1: all right, Christmas Miracle, Yes, it is Christmas Miracle indeed. Yes.
- 59:43Speaker 1: And if you want a funny, like a funny Christmas
- 59:46Speaker 1: themed episode of a TV show, I've always mentioned how
- 59:48Speaker 1: I love the Drop from the Sun. Yes, the very
- 59:51Speaker 1: first Christmas special they do. I think it's called I've
- 59:52Speaker 1: got to hear jolly old Saint Dick. It's called Dick Solomon.
- 59:56Speaker 1: They all just it's just your various Shenanigans. So Sally
- 59:58Speaker 1: becomes a gift wrapper at the More Shannikins and Sue Harry,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: who is the what's his name French Stewart. Yeah, he
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: plays one of Santa's alves at the More, then finds
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: out that this isn't the real sand at the More
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: and he's like, what are you doing? Pretty much, buddy,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: the elf stole the concept. Yes, And Tommy, who is
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Joseph Gordon Levitt in one of his first roles, is
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: frustrated because his girlfriend won't tell him what she wants
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: for Christmas. She wants him to figure it out, and
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, we've all been there, buddy, we've been there.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: And Dick gets the rest of her chopping down a
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Christmas tree for the house. But they're all aliens. I
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: don't get it. It's just, you know, it's just aliens
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: trying to experience their first Christmas on Earth. And it's
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: a lot of fun, a lot of shenanigans. Yeah, fantastic,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: a lot of great physical comedy in Thur from the Sun,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: so Jolly Old Saint Dick, The Thread from the Sun,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and Arnold's Christmas. I highly recommend checking those out.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: I will add one more, if that's all right. Something's
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: a little more sweet and lighthearted, as like a little
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: touch of spice in it. I'm sure I've mentioned this
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: in the past, but a bears repeating. This is a
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: telemovie from the early nine is called Bernard and the Genie.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I never mentioned this one.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Have you heard this? I can't recall you have?
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Okay, this does Alan Cumming? People know him from. I
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: think he hosts like the TV show The Traitors.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Unfortunate last name, isn't it. Yeah, you never know if
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: he's coming or going. Yeah, exactly, but it's spelt cuming, right,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: was its? It's got the two? I thought one? Okay, yeah.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: He plays a young man named Bernard who is having
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: a terrible Christmas. He has been dumped by his unfaithful.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Girlfriend faithful ones.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: And I think she might have actually dumped him for
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: his boss who then yeah, his girlfriend leaves him for
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: his best friend.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Um.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: He discovers that his boss uh accidentally discusses his bosses
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: corrupt and he gets fired as a result. His life
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: is just shit on Christmas time.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: But he's got this.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: He finds this old lamp, gives it a rub that
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: pops a genie played by the great UK comedian Lenny Henry.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Virginie has been in the lamp for two thousand years.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: It's never like four years thousands ah.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: And is very very taken with everything that Mons society
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: has to offer, from funk music to McDonald's. But he
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: also was his This was nineteen ninety one.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Oh so it's ninety okay, yeah, yeah, what's it? Ca,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna look at something and the genie okay, yeah,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I believe was ninety one.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: It first aired twenty three December nineteen ninety one. Ron
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Ekinson's in there, and ron Ekinson is the evil Boss.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: The kids have just discovered mister Bean. They amazing.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: I was talking about this with a friend of mine
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: on Alone the other night. One of the most hilarious
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: schisms between on screen persona and private life is Rowan Atkinson,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: because I mean he's mister Bean. He's a massive door.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Getting rebooted or something. Apparently, So yeah, new episodes of Time.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I saw it coming on Netflix one announcing it here.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: In his actual life, he's like this vintage carra Fi
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Shonado who owns like six Aston Martins races them. Apparently
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: he pulled like a burden of the genie and he
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: told the girl friend of this other comedian a comana
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: I don't like, by the way, I find a bit
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: bit of a prats. I'm like, you go, mister Bean.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: And my mate said, have you ever heard the story
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: about you know, he was on his private plane landing
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: somewhere in Africa. The pilot had a heart attack and
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Rollan Atkinson landed the plane.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Really, holy shit, that's mister Bean skit in it. So yeah.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: So apparently had a show on Netflix two years ago
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: that I had no idea about ca Manvess is b Yeah,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: and they're doing a sequel with that as well. That's
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: what I saw, yeah, called man versus Baby. That's it. Yeah.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I thought it was Mystic, which.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Is the story of Dando's life. Yeah, but Bernar and
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: the Genie.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I think you can probably find it on YouTube. A
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: lot of stuff is just ending up on YouTube these
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: days because there's We've just got so much stuff you
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: got to put it somewhere, and that just can't control
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: it all anymore. I can't control it all.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: But it's very sweet and it's got a really lovely
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: not bittersweet ending.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: But you know you think, oh, I spoiler back, I'm
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: gonna watch this shit. No, No, it's it's lovely. It's
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: something I really rite out of these t all right, Well,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that is our underrated Christmas special? Any any TV show
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: specials over there? Any TV Yeah, I I was trying
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: to think of some TV episodes that you can remember that.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: You go, you like the Christmas version of it. You
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: love family Tires, right, I do, and I'm sure they
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: would have had fa Mainy Tires Christmas. I'm gonna take
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: the description of Christmas Special A Keaton Christmas Carol. Christmas
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: is just around the corner, but Alex lacks holiday spirit
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: as the rest of his family prepared to celebrate. On
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Christmas Eve, he is visited in a dream by ghostly
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: messengers who give him a view of his past and future.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: Christmas is along with a different perception of the holiday.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Ah Dickens always comes through, so family ties, they do
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: have Christmas Special. What's another show you liked? What's the
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: theme song you like? Growing Pains? Like, yeah, Growing Pains
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: Christmas have a look.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: You've just reminded me of a gift that I got
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: from my my great sister Margot. All my sisters are great,
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: but Margo, from a very early age was always giving
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: me like books, and books were just way but my
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: pay grade. But she gave me like a really nice
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: little hard backed copy of a Christmas Carol Charles Dickens
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Christmas Carol when I was about maybe seven or eight,
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: and I was like, this isn't make for notch. So
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: of course I was like, eh, I'll tell you what
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: I've got That book to this day, I reckon. I mean, yeah,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: it must be god nearly half a century old now,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: but yeah, something's got to keep there are some things
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: you've got to keep. Marco has liked that though she's
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: always she's like you, and that she's giving gifts as
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: opposed to like, just give me a gift cap.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I know what I want. I'd give gifts.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's kind of like putting effort into like
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I think they might like this, So it's a gamble.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: She's always rolling the dice. My mum's worked out. Now,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: don't buy the kids clothes or she's worked out. Don't
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: expect to excited response when you buy them clothes. That's true.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: He's one toys on Christmas. Here's one toys sucks a
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Christmas story. This is Growing Pains. I'm seeing a theme here.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Oh boy, okay, well the Siva family prepared for Christmas.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: One of Jason's patients contemplates suicide by jumping under sea
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: for chimney. Holy so, a little bit Gremlins, a little bit,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: that's a wonderful life. Yeah, all right, that's the second
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: one is called the Kid. Second Christmas episode of Growing Pains,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: taken with the holiday spirit, Ben brings home a runaway
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: homeless girl for dinner. All right, Ben, it's a little one, right.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I never watched the show. I'm trying to remember what
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Kirk Cameron's character's name, jingle Bell Rock, the Red Nose Reindeer,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: get the holes in the first Noel Orbia, Okay, that's number.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: It's very nice, that's very Christmasy. As I said, they
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: understood the assignment.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: And it's not easy. Being Green is the third and
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: final Christmas episode of Growing Pains. They did three. The
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: description is the Christmas Spirit is on short supply, with
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Mike and Carabine jealous of Kate and Dwight. Well, Jason
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: is over controlling and decorating the tree. That sounds like
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: a sick sheigans into ularity into you. But every sitcom's
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: got a Christmas episode, and yeah, you might not know
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: they exists. Just check it out. Look, think of your
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: favorite TV show and just take Christmas episode after it.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: And I love it when the show's because I'm a
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Christmas guy. You also love seeing the characters that I
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: enjoy just in the Christmas spirit. Generally, it's very odd
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: or very rare for a Christmas themed episode to have
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: a sad ending No no, I mean the old point
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: of it is to make you feel a woman fuzzy
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: and by presence. Of course, it's going to be a
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: scripted show.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: It's got to follow the beats of something's gonna go
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: slightly wrong. Well, here's a situation that could end badly,
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: but guess what, it doesn't because we're a family, and
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: families get together at Christmas time, and even if you're
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: not part of the family. Hey come, you know, hey,
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: homeless girl, I'm ben seeber Come, come, come to our house.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: She stole all our shit. Anyway, all right, what are
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: we do? Let's get some mail bad before that, though,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I believe the old Miss's going to be making an appearance.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: You're a better the old ball and Chain. Come on,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: the old Mitch's gonna make an appearance. Well, the old
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: ball and Chain. I guess you coul say you could.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Now you're liberated, got a whole new ball and chain.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: All right, we'll be back with some mailbag questions a
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: little bit later, but for now, here is Mitch get

- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Cheers, guys.
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: Man deck the halls with special guests. Can I introduce
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: myself like that? How are we. It's nice to see
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: its endo what's going on?
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Not too much. It's a little unsettling, though, because I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: don't think you ever introduced yourself on the podcast ever.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: It was always I am Mitch.
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: Yeah, that's as much as I have.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: Pull the curtain back. Actually said to him, look, you
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: can do the j for this, go for I was
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: kind of hoping you go I am Mitch, because that's
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: what the people. You've got to give the people what
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: they want.
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: I still need to be fed that line. I can't
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: just come out with I am Mitch.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: We're joined here by We're joined here by my dear friend.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I am Mitch, I said my dear friend.
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: Well, in the absence the absence of a dear friend arriving,
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: I am Mitch.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: You asked how I am, I'm doing well. We're here
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: as part of the twenty twenty four Christmas Special. Basically
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: we thought we would do something a bit different this
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: year because I always feel like we've phoned in a
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: bit at the Christmas Special. It's just let's just turn
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: them works out and see what comes out. You know
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: that cliche?
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: Isn't that also the direction you just gave me?
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: That's pretty much what we do here. But I thought
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: this year we'll get you know, we'll get Mitche on,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: We'll get Nikola on, We'll get the kids on, We'll
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: get you know, other patrons on or whatever. Just make
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: it a full Forefinger Descant family Christmas special because you
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: have me on the show for a long time. So
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: what have you been doing in the last two years?
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Besides making babies?
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: Well made baby? Raising baby for the most part is
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: what I've been doing. I've been I'm not playing sport,
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: playing golf, but I'm not playing cricket this summer, just
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: giving up a bit more time. Back to Lex.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Golf is not a sport? Is that what you're saying.
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: It's arguable.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: It's defined US sport. It's on Fox Sports. But yeah, people,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: a lot of people say, is it really a sports?
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Like snooger, I watched snooker, I watched bowlie. Is it
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: really a sport? It's competitive.
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: There's a lot of things that are on Fox Sports
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: that aren't sport. I mean, Jason Dunstall is in a sport.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: He's a speaking of sport, I'm taking Alliott to his
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: first ever test match boxing day. What better one's taken to.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I mean it's not the Ashes, but it's still this
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: is the next best one.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: Right totally any Boxing day test, but yes, if it's
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: Australia India for the last really the last ten ish years,
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: ten to fifteen years, like that's been prime time and
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: Boxing Day test is I think it's the MCG as
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: much as anything, to be fair, but boxing day tests
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: there's something about that post Christmas buzz that hangs around
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: the air. You've also you know there's Boxing Day sales
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: Melbourne's Melbourne's busy, but calm like it. No one's stressed
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: on Boxing Day. It's just a it's a chill vibe.
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: You're still in a slight food comba from Christmas and whatnot.
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: Hmm. I still like I've got pretty vivid memories of
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: my first couple of MCAG trips related that my grandfather
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: took me to my first out of cricket game at
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: the g but that was a one day It was Australia,
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: I want to say it was Australia Pakistan.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: We took Ellie to Australia Pakistan this year.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Nice, there's a little bit of symmetry there. What I
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: do remember about the game is Anthony Stewart took a
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: hat trick and Anthony Stewart didn't play a lot of
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: cricket for Australia, but because that was like the first
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: thing that I ever saw in my eyes, Anthony Stewart
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: was better than Glen McGrath for a couple of years.
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: And the first Test that I went to was actually
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: Australia in the year as well, and it was Brittley's debut.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: That was the we watched that today, Elliot night, I
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: was on Foxtowe.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: The whole test or was it just like a little clip.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: It was the minis kind of thing. Yeah, cool, but
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: yeah that was in two thousand. Yeah, it was the.
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: Ninety nine two thousand series. We went day two from memory.
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: Australia had batted on day one and Brett Lee made
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: like twenty seven maybe not out, but I had like
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: twenty seven or something like that. So that was the
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: sort of first thing we saw in the morning and
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: then it took a week. In his first over, I
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: think it was with a low full toss from memory,
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: but just that was one of those things where I
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: think that like there was a buzz and excitement around
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: how quick Brett had been bowling in the lead up,
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: and even that it was at a time that people
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: weren't really paying attention to speed guns. It wasn't until
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: the talk of like this kid is really really quick.
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: And I don't know if it was coincidence, but I'd
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: be surprised if it was that that was the one
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: that Dad was like, right, we're going and yeah, it
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: was great. Day picked up with a good one, and
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: that kick started a run of me not missing boxing
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: day tests for oh god, maybe until X was born
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: or COVID COVID year probably anyway, it was it was
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: a lot.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, Alie's excited. Alie will sit there, he will
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: watch test matches. He's obsessed with cricket. He loves it.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: It's great.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: How's it going with the change of pace, because is
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: this his first summer of watching test much cricket?
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: First someone he likes the idea of tests more than
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: one day is I think he loves the excitement of
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: big bash, but he likes the fact that he goes,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: oh it doesn't matter if this one because they get
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: the bat again. He likes the concept of all that.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: He likes the five day concept.
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: He likes the second chances.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but no, but he'll be watching it and he'll
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: just go oh because he was human. When India didn't
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: have to do the follow on, he was furious. He
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: cracked it, walked out. He goes, these guys are the bowlers,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: why can't they get him out?
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: So was it him that was messaging me, not you?
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: From if I was just strowing you up? Mitch and
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: I have messages and I know he hates when people
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: just throw hot takes out there, so I'm like, I'm
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: just gonna throw some hot takes out at him. And
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: he didn't respond straight away, and I was like, oh,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: it didn't work. And then about an hour, lady, you're like,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I'm going to respond to this when I'm finished with
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: the bath.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: That was not my tone. I mean, I did record.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna I will return to this, and I
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: was like, I've got to come clean now. Before he
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: actually stoos for an hour.
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: I don't know how close he came to a let
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: no number.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I sent like six messages in a row and I
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: was like, he's not replying. I'm just gonna keep going
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: to the replies and you didn't reply, and I was like,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna say.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: I was leimate, I was legitimately justice year Ash was
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: out and I was tied up. I thought I was
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: just dealing with dinner and bedtime and all sort stuff.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I thought I genuinely just like pissed him off to
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: the point were he's just not going to write back anymore.
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: What's Christmas presents? What's coming for the kids?
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Alliott just wants cricket ship but he so he's getting
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: I'm talking legitimate, like he wants the test shirt, the
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: test overcoat thing, the wooly one, he wants that, the
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: test pants, he wants the he calls him the Zamper glasses.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: But they're just the cricketer glasses.
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: I can't believe how quickly though that that pair of glasses.
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: I don't know what the fuck are I think they're Oakley,
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: but whoever makes them, like every cricketer I've never seen
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: them before, and suddenly everyone is wearing them.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Yep, there now, I reckon, there's got to be some
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: sort of tie in there, like we'll pay you to
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: all wear the same shit.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: Yeah, gotta be, Yeah, it might almost be. But the
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: thing is, it's not even just Australia, like the Indians
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: wearing as well. I'm seeing New Zealand because originally I
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: was thinking, oh maybe it was a time with cricket Australia,
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: but that's so ubiquitous it's insane.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Can I just say, well, ten minutes in, Eliza is
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: probably thinking, fuck me, Mitch has been on the show
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: for like three years and all the torbet's fucking cricket.
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: You're the one going to the test.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Yeah I know, but yeah, so it's true though I
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: reckon that they used to wear Oakley's anyway. But they
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: were the thinner ones, weren't they.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: The style is now you'd get variety, like you know,
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: some would wear the wrap arounds and some would were
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: just just wear like bug eyes or whatever.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: It would be. Imagine the glasses were talking about. Imagine
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: what a typical raver wears to a music festival.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: Yeah, they're not a mile away from the Piete Sittle
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: speed dealers that he was made fun of wearing a
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: couple of seasons ago.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but Elliot wanted a pair of those, so he's
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: getting those. He wanted a wooden bat. It's weird the
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: smaller bats. So why he's height he's a size three? Okay,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: but the head of the bat's a lot thinner. Yeah,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: and Alliott won't want that because he practices with like
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: the big bash kanga cricket, like the plastic ones, and wise,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I think he's adjusted to the height of that. And
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: granted the wooden bats are a bit heavier, but I
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: think I won't take him on to just get just
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: get used to it. I'd rather just throw him the deep
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: been straight away. I'm going to get him a size five,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: which is a lot bigger. I think, why I just
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: go for the gusto from the get go.
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: You're grow into it, That's fine. Yeah, you know I'm
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: not cutting golf clubs in half flex yet. I'm just
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: giving her mind and you know, we stand further away
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: she figures it out.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, because we've got I've got a friend who likes
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: the cricket and he plays with the smaller bat, and
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: I'm just like, rather just learn how to play with
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: the big one. So I've got him the size five
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: cricket bat. But else, yeah, he got some new cricket wickts.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: He wanted a lot up what brand?
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: What brand bat?
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Gret Nichols?
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: Okay, ready handle or like what are the stickers?
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: And as in I've gotta right under the table, I
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: can have a look showed. Yeah, okay, it's this one
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: right here, the.
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: Giant Oh wait, no blast sorry blast, Yeah.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: Okay, Cashmere Cashmere Willow ready played g n R five blast.
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: Great finest Cashmere Willow type A.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: He wanted the red handle, apparently saw someone using it.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: You wanted who used the green Nichols? Is it head? Yeah?
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: Yeah, track head.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's Travis He because you want you wanted,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: you wanted heads bat if.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: I was gonna say, you would have struggled to have
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: had the opportunity to see Mitch Marshus that so far this.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Time we should start a quicker podcast.
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: What do you keep trying to break all of the
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: things I love into podcasts?
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Do you want to talk about them? Though?
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: No, that's enough people talking about them.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: So he's got so he's got the full test gear.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: He wanted a the hats like the white hat they were.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: He's basically wanted the test.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: He just wants to be able to walk down the
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: street and be mistaken.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: For Ben Duckett. Yeah, but we're here to talk about
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Christmas specials. So I spoke earlier to Guy about underrated
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Chrismas specials. It's Christmas specials that we appreciated that others
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: out there might not have heard of. Guy ended up
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: talking about Batman Returns because says it's a Chrismas movie
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: that many people don't see. It is a Christmas movie. Whatever.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I ended up going with it. It's very true to me,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: but it's actually a really great story. And I went
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: with Arnold's Christmas from Hay Arnold. It's some season one
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: of Hay Arnold. I don't want to read treat the
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: same thing. Basically, the story is he lives in the
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: boarding house or the house with lots of people living
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: with his grandparents owned the own the place, state that
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: the landlord's and there's a Vietnamese the man there named
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: mister Hun. Arnold get him the Kris Kringle. He wants
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: to get him a good present. He finds out that
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: the reason he's in the city there, living in that
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: city where he chose to live there, was because when
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: he was younger, he had a baby daughter named my
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: and during the Vietnam War, the American soldiers were flying
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: away to a helicopter and then the space one more person.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: He gave him the baby so she'd be safe and
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: have a nice place to live, and he heard that
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: she'd moved to this city. Arnold Spendcy's Christmas trying to
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: find and track her down. And it's a reunion and
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: it's big Christmas miracle. It's a really lovely story. It's
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: as a really adult story for a kids show, and
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: I really appreciated it. But I said to you to
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: recommend a Christmas special of some kind or Christmas movie
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: or something, And what did you come up with?
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: Oh? I had a good think about this because the
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: first few that sprung to mind were the obvious ones.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: I mean, the Simpsons have done some really good ones.
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: We don't need to warp over that.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: The just some one that we may end up be
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: doing a review of.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Yes, which I started watching until you said cancel plans.
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: I forgot had done something. They'll postpone. This Fishes from
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: the Bear. It's obviously like, that's not underrated, that's just
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: fucking brilliant.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: The Bear was it?
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, have you watched the bit?
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: I haven't yet. No, those seasons comes out soon. Yeah,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I heard it's great, all right? Cool?
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: So in the second episode, sorry, in the second season,
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: there's an episode called Fishes, which is a flashback episode
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: to Calmi, the main character since family Christmas, and his
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: mum is trying to cook the seven fishes, so it's
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: seven different fish dishes on Christmas traditional meal. It's chaotic.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: It's really chaotic and frenetic, and it hearkens to the
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: people that may be more broken home memories rather than
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: the nuclear family. Everything's good, but it's Christmas not going well,
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: and through it all though people still you know, they're
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: still coming together, they still love each other, and then
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: it all falls apart again. But it's really really just
- 1:21:34Speaker 5: spellbinding hour or so of TV. Then I was trying
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: to think too, I was trying to get away. I
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: was like, well, the thing that interests me the most
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: about Christmas episodes is with network TV shows in particular,
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: how often Christmas gets brought in and it has absolutely
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: nothing to do with the plot. And I feel like
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: Christmas is the only time of year that every syndicated
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: show feels like we've got to have a Christmas show.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Around Christmas time, they tend to do it maybe with
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Thanksgiving sometimes.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: Maybe Thanksgiving, but it's like those holidays and it's just
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: as always felt odd to me that that is the
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: It's not like they're like, it's going to be cold,
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: so we should make sure we have a winter episode,
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: or like this is on in the summer, so it
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: has to be hot like it. It's just a bizarre
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: thing that, like no Christmas time, people expect to see
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Christmas on TV.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: I guess maybe it's just fitting the vibe as well.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: You feel like maybe the networks say, look, it's the
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Christmas week. We want every show on our network to
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: be doing Christmas show as well. You feel like it's
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: something that the executives are doing as opposed to people
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: creating the show.
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: With that said, so I was trying to think through
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: those worlds. Fraser has got a couple of really good
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: Christmas episodes. Now it's hard to split, to be honest.
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: Then I was thinking around. I was trying to get
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: away from comedies to a degree. The West Wind has got.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I was going to bring up the West Wing. No,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Noel is a great one.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: No, wow, yeah, fucking cracking.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: That's the one with the art dealer, right or the
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Nazi art. The Nazi art one. Hey, no, there's a
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Christmas episode that has Nazi art involved in it.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: Unless there's a subplot that I'm not aware of it.
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: Noela's where Josh Lyne and Bradley Whitford's character is dealing
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: with the aftermath and the PTSD of the assassination attempt.
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: If there's Nazi Yad in there, then I've probably glossed
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: over that, just because what it does have is that
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: phenomenal little speech from Leo at the end of it,
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: which is just him wrapping his arms around.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: Him have a bit of a jerk.
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but in the best way, straight into my face. Please,
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: mister Sorkin, I am ready to accept it.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I did not leave my cricket of glasses on. You
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: go for it.
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: Then, Mash had a couple of good ones. Yeah, there's one.
- 1:23:49Speaker 5: I had to look up the name for this one,
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: but Death Takes a Holiday, which was season ninth of MASH.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: Serious Mash, Yeah exactly. That's like post laugh track Mash.
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: But it's a really real, the intense episode. It's a
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: really good one. I think they kicked one off as well,
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: Dear Dad in the first season, which is Hawkeye dressed
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: up as Santa Claus riding around an army helicopter.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I do want to correct I believe the Tire
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Show did have a laugh track, but you can if
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: you have the DVD switch laugh track off. I don't
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: they ever stopped doing a laugh track.
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: I'm sure I saw some just on Foxholder didn't.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: Oh but was that because Foxtown now airing the laugh
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: tracks episodes? But mate, because Alan Older became a director,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: So maybe he made a decision this episode doesn't need
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: a laugh track. Maybe you're right.
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: It could have been that, like whether it was the
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: whole way through, and I think it was. What my
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: mate and I've noticing when we're watching this years ago,
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: was the difference, Like you go from early match to
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: go to an Allan Older's directed match, it's an entirely different. Yeah,
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: Like to the point that you're like, did you become
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: director or show runner? Like did Alan Older just fire everybody?
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: You are? Right by the way, I'm looking you up.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Mass stopped using a laugh track over many years, if
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: eventually dropping it all together. The show's show runers felt
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: that using can laughter in a series about Warrens surgeons
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: was in poor taste. So, yeah, you're right. I haven't
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: revisited the sh for a long time. Man. I love mash.
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: Yeah, My dad used to really adore it, and I
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: liked it a lot when I was a kid, just
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: by proxy, and I haven't watched it for a long time,
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: but i'd be keen to get back into it, I
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: think as an adult and just you know, rewatch it
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: from older rise. Then I've got one that's way more
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: obscure that I'll land on, and one that I haven't
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: actually seen that I want to talk about. I haven't
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: watched all of the Black Mirrors, but there's a Black
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: Mirror episode called White Christmas in the second season of
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: Black Mirror. Have you watched much Black Mirror?
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Watch the first season? Yeah? Okay? Is the first season
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: one with the pig in the well. That's first episode.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: That's the season.
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: What an introduction to a TV show?
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Oh shit is going for it? Just for hours that
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: pig was not saying my face please, sir.
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: H White Christmas is an episode as I haven't seen
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: the John Ham's in it, so it has.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: To be good.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Yeah, the obscure one though, this is one that stood
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: out for me, and it's an interesting one because you
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: recently took on watching House and then bailed on it early.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: I think, yeah, we're going to revisit it. We're going
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: to make it. We're not going to binge it. We're
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: going to watch it an episode, a couple of nights
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: off watching another one. It's not a binge worthy show.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: Yeah, no, it's it's a drip feed show because it's
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: so formulaic. Like, it's really hard to binge watch a
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: formulate show because you really start to see through the
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: scenes of it all. We've been doing that with Suits.
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: We never watched Suits when it was on hard.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Towards the end. It's a hard watch, man. It's just
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: it's just it's just pretty pretty. Ship.
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: There was a phenomenal interview. Oh well, I mean once
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: Meghan Markle and of mate who's the star of the
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: show whatever his name is, got off the show.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: You up to that point yet, Yeah, okay, that's when
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: it starts getting real weird. When Catherine Hagel comes on.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: You're like, oh, what's going on?
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: Yeah? That was it is. But I also don't have
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: to watch Meghan mark will be ship at acting, and
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: I don't have to watch the other guy constantly be
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: a whiny little bitch towards Harvey despite the fact that
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: he's given everything to him on a sell the PLATF.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: You also need to have a drinking game every time
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: somebody says goddamn, yes, holy shit, god damn, goddamn, goddamn.
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: I'm gonna have a goddamn drinking Actually, I don't know
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: when it's what. They must have changed the hours, but
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: when they start saying fuck and the beginning, it's like
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: one per episode that they obviously would have been a
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: rule like you're allowed one fuck, and but that only
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: made it more weird that they would still say god
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: damn when exactly know they wanted to say.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I feel like that, said Nick, this has got to
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: be an inside joke that is using goddamn all the time.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: It has to be because it's just so it just
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: takes out at the moment going why are they saying
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: goddamn all the time? Everything's goddamn.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: You're a lawyer, you're a grown man, and you're a
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: grown woman. Patrick J. Adams, this is this is a
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: massive digression. Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross on Suits,
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: recently in an interview I was on a podcast, sorry.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: On an episode of his own podcast podcast, It's about
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Is it about suits?
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: It's about of course it is, He said, that Suits
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: walked so that Succession could run off.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: Mate, It's my favorite favorite thing anyone has said in
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty four.
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: Ww we like, mate, you walked so Billions could run.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: We stopped watching Billions. I can't watch this tripe anymore.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: I mean, I love GM Marty, but man, that show
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: went off the rails after about season four.
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: They look they made up for a lot with the
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: final season finally okay, but man, I couldn't really, in
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: all seriousness recommend anyone watch it. It would still be
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: like I'll tell you that last the last season is good,
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: but you have to slog through so much shit to
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: get there that it's like, No, if I had my
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: time again, I would have just gone thanks, I'll take
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: the first couple of seasons and then once Bobby's out,
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: I'm out.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Succession is like the real world version of Billions. Billions
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: was just so far fetched. Succession was still also far
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: fetched to an extent, but I still it's far more
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: believable than what Billions was.
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: Yes, but anyway, yeah, that that just is my favorite.
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: Like Suits has been a it's like a six out
- 1:29:19Speaker 5: of ten show. It's not bad, it's.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Just it's one of those shows that got got on
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: to Netflix when Netflix was just becoming a thing and
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: everyone was like, Oh, I've you stocked out suits? Yeah?
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: Actually, what it is whenever someone says that Ai couldn't
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: write a script, Yeah, I reckon it could I reckon
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: AI could bang out the suits and you wouldn't know
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: the difference.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I wonder how much of the show benefited from Markle
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: dating Prince Harry and everyone discovering the shows it was
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: at going oh show, Yeah, I imagine a lot.
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: Yeah, And I feel my favorite I was gonna say
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: my favorite thing from watching it when you do watch
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: through it all is that everyone's every single conversation, apart
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: from when like eventually someone admits that they're wrong, usually
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: to Donna, every conversation everyone comes in there with the
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: same heightened sense of like I want to fight you?
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: Who I'm going to fight you? Well, this is the
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: goddamn question that you asked. What are you going to
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: do about it?
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Goddamn it?
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: That's everything. I'm like, mate, I just want a bagel.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: And the dude from psych h Hill, Yes, his facial
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: expression never changes when he's on suits. His face is
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: the same whether he's angry, whether he's sad. It's just
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: the same, and I'm like, I can't deal. I can't deal.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I would be fixated on his face. I'm like, motherfucker,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: lift those eyebrows up. Do something something.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: You know that threw me the most. Actually, So you
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: got Wendell Pearce, who plays Bunk from the Wire.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Okay, yes, yeah, yeah, a bunk not not ship man, no,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: but yeah McNaughty startner ship man. He's in a.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: Yes, yeah he is. Does he do a ship in your?
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: Would say, does he do a she in your? I
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: feel like he's so close.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: He does something close going, I like your honor. I
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: was disappointed they didn't renew it for the second season,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: a third season.
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: I was like, third, I haven't watched the second yet.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: The second fine, it's yeah, it's not as good as
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: the first.
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: Day the anyway. So Mike Ross and who's the like
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: pretty undiagnosed autistic blonde girl Katrina that they quote the
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Wire like a dozen times through suits. It's a but
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: he doesn't know that Bunk is his father in law?
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: What the hell? Even then, I was like, no suits,
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: get the don't don't quote the Wire to try to
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: act like you're cool.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: And your better television.
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: Yeah, shit out of your mouth quote that was blue.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: They used to throw in the most ridiculous references to shows.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: It kind of a more obnoxious towards the end. I
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: was like, what, you're just shoehorning in a reference here.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: No one would actually speak this way. It's ridiculous.
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: The Billions did that as well. Where all Billions did
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: towards the end was just speak in like metaphors and
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: movie references and sports references, and everyone has seen and
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: read everything. At what point do you guys make any
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: fucking traits. You've just been sitting there studying the golden
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: age of Hollywood for the last forty years, and more
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: than Guy Davis.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: I love that this show. This has now just evolved
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: into us ranting about the shows that have been on
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: in the time you've been away and how bad they are.
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: How Christmas he anyway, house MD, I told you that
- 1:32:46Speaker 5: there's a really good through line about a cop so
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: houses an asshole to a cop played by David Morse,
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: who if you know David Morse, you're nodding at me.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: But for people that you know, it's not exactly a
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: household name. He's one of the cops in the Green
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: or one of the guards in the.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Green copies that one of the guards yeah yeah.
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: And for the younger generation, I think this was on
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: Netflix recently as well. He is the neighbor in the
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: Shila buff remake of Rear Window.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: Disturbia Disturbia, Yes, the one. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: Anyway, So House is a jerk to this guy and
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: then he gets a vendetta for him. Turns out that
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: he's yeah, he's a cop, and he starts coming at House.
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: He thinks he has a drug addiction. And there's Christmas
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: episode or one of the episodes set at Christmas time.
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: It's called Merry Little Christmas season three. Halfway through and
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: basically Wilson has delivered an ultimatum. So Wilson says, I'm
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: going to testify. I'm going to say that I have
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: been writing you, or that you stole my prescription pattern
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: wrote yourself like it in. But the deal that we've
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: got is that you're not going to go to prison.
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: You just have to go to rehab. Blah blah blah.
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: House throws that back in their face. He then goes
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: cold turkey on Bikerting because he's basically just at home
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: and no one's going to help him anymore. And it's
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: this some really great acting from Q Laurie in it
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: to be perfectly honest. But they're still trying to work
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: on a case as well, so people come in to him,
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: just him going through these various stages of withdrawal. It's
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: you were talking about House always being snarky or like,
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: you know, and it is like it's that formula formulate
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: element of the show where he just keeps making quips
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: and he's wrong and he's wrong, and he's wrong until
- 1:34:29Speaker 5: he's right. And when you watch that day after day,
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: you're like, Okay, it's just the same thing all the time.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: There was wrong, wrong, go see someone in the GP
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: part of the hospital whatever it is season client and goes, oh,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: I can link your problem to the problem and already
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: trying to solve Fuck.
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: That's something they're doing suits all the time as well. Yeah, sorry,
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: is he's just said it?
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: They go like bold moment about eighty percent of the
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: way through the episode.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: Yeah, like bold moment, like bulb moment. I've got to
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: go feed my cat.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: What did you just say? Yes, my cat?
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: No feed, chicken feed.
- 1:35:03Speaker 10: Shacking up the price on chicken feed, and that's why
- 1:35:06Speaker 10: male distributors aren't able to wear off. And the other
- 1:35:09Speaker 10: thing that they do in suits a lot of the
- 1:35:11Speaker 10: time is a blue folder. They'll drop a blue folder
- 1:35:14Speaker 10: on the tage and someone will read it and they'll
- 1:35:16Speaker 10: look at it for like three seconds and it'll be
- 1:35:19Speaker 10: an entire hostile takeover, and like, well, I understand your plan.
- 1:35:25Speaker 10: You have just read the author's name. I can't get
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: off it. I've been holding this back for such a
- 1:35:30Speaker 10: long time. Anyway, it's weird.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Glad I'm not the only person because Nicola stopped watching
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: it with me because I just kept getting I would
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: be yelling at the screen, like I said, lift your eyebrows.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: Get so angry about it.
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: You're on the West wing, Charlie, shut up.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Do If you're a fan of everything we do here

- 1:36:21Speaker 5: Maybe it's because all of the eyebrow lifting and gets
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: done by Lewis lipp.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: It does on and this. I hate this.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: The head thing forgot. I know that this is a fuck.
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: It's the editing and the director that like, it's one
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: thing for him to do the choice to make the
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: choice of doing it. Why do they leave the camera
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: rolling they know he's going to do it.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: That's the thing. A fell at the show was trying
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: to fuck with me. By the end, I'm like, they're
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: doing everything that is annoying and they're just doing it
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: more now that they've they clearly have read the reviews
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: and gone now we can give a shit. I just
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: just frustrated me that Lewis lick guy.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: What it did get?
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Fucking suits?
- 1:37:02Speaker 6: Man.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: This out suits to me feels like the kind of
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: show I should say to Nichola, the kind of show
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: that people who want to be the dude from Wolf
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: of Wall Street, that's this is their show. Oh mate,
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: don't don't listen to Rotten Tomatoes. It's just the whole.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: Point four on IMDb.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: I don't know what it is that, whether they live
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: vi character through the characters or something. There's just something
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: about the show that has worked for majority of the audienors.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: But man, I just couldn't We went through because I
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: when Nicola were seven seasons through, we have to finish
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: this now I can't just not finish it. Yeah, but man, oh, man,
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: and he's getting Harvey's getting his own spin off now. Oh,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: I think it's a prequel to Suits the Main it's
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: the main guy, Harvey.
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Harvey Spector. Will they get Gabriel Mack to
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: play him, but they'll do the entire thing. And this
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: is my other favorite Suits trope. Whenever they do a
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: flashback that they will put the teams blue filter on, Yeah,
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: to make sure you know it's a flashback, like just
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: in case. Yes, we the wig didn't give it away
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: that we're ten years ago now.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: So Pierce and She got her own show, which got
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: canceled pretty quickly.
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: I don't understand when, like in the scene before, Harvey
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: was a senior partner that now now he's only just
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: now he's now he's just in the mail room. How
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: the continuity doesn't make sense? Oh they put a filter
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: on for me. I get it now, that's what he
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: used to do. Oh now we're back in present day.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Thank you suits anyone that reviewed it, that's how imagine
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: anyone reviewed it positively. That's what they sound like. And
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: then they gave their TV a big.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Couple like bagging. It's called suits La. It's not. It's
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: not a prequel at all. I was incorrect.
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: It's enough.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: His Garrison is and Stephen Rmel.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: Who the fuck's that Arrow? Ah? Yeah, that's I.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: Think it's because it looks like Mike. It's like we're
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: gonna get actors that look like these guys.
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: Arrow could also have been written by AI, so that
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: make sense.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Josh McDermott is in there the dufust from Walking Dead.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: It was lying in the third season or whatever. It
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: is like I know, I know where the lab is.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I'm a scientist or whatever. And he wasn't actually a scientist.
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: Ah that guy? Yeah right. Gabriel Mack Noh yeah, okay,
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: So Gabriel Mack is in it as Harvey Spector.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so maybe he maybe he's just gonna be
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: in a few episodes. Who knows, like they'll they'll have
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: some sort of crossover, but I think they're trying to
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: create like a Law and Order multiverse, probably with suits. Yeah, okay,
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: doesn't have the old Dick Wolf stamp of approval though,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: so good luck.
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: He's not going to be able to get a bagel
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: if he's in La Whatt's his go to morning tea
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: going to be? Sorry? The other thing, Oh yeah, right, sorry,
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: Josh mcdermot's had a haircut, so he doesn't look anything
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: like what he did in Walking Dead. Okay, the other
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: thing from Suits, and I can only imagine that it
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: was like, well, we've paid for these locations and these sets,
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: we're going to use them. That ninety percent of it
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: was people coming to say one's house to have a
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: conversation that should have been a phone call, Like someone
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: rocks up at your house at ten thirty at night
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: to say three lines and.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: Leave and then just fucking and just walk off exactly, Yeah,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: walking and throw the blue folder on the on the table,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: walk out.
- 1:40:13Speaker 5: Like when did suits? When did suits there? It wasn't
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: twenty eleven people had phones, it was It wasn't nineteen ninety.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Seven, especially rich people.
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, they were the first ones. They would have
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: had six of them.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Well, I see I live suits at the start because
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: it was you know, it was a regular show in
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: the sense that each episode just felt like it lived
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: in its own bubble where they had to crack a case.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: By the end of it, it was just all, like you said,
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: angst in house drama that had nothing, but they were
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: burning their own house down from within. He's just like,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: what the fuck is going on?
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: It was also a lot of they couldn't get themselves
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: away from their will they won't they storyline, And if
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: it wasn't will they won't they about Mike and the
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: Princess Duchess thank you Rachel, then it was well they
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: won't they about will might get caught? Well, they won't
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: they about Like everything was just like, let's take this
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: dilemma and as soon as you think it's over, we'll
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: reintroduce it and just keep repeating again and again.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: And when they brought him back and it was like
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: even more annoying.
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and then Catherine heikeel comes out of nowhere and
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: isn't bad. But all it does now is served to
- 1:41:24Speaker 5: remind you of how weird of a career blow up
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: Catherine Heichel had.
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: Apparently it was her own doing though, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: More or less like she just kept not kept, But
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: she had a couple of fairly famous instances of shitting
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: on people that she worked with.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: I was reading like, hard to deal with, hard to
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: work with. Once you've got I feel like, once you've
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: got that rep, it's really hard to get rid of it.
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: Yeah, like you'd want to be very very good. You
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: can't just be middle of the road good.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: Tom Cruise could be Tom Cruise could be hard to
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: work with totally.
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: Meryl Street could be hard to work with. I doubt
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: she is, but she could be. She could be a
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: bitch to everyone. Yeah, it's the price you pay. It's
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: Meryl stoop. Anyway, I am going to go start putting
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: together a trampoline. Oh biggest Christmas gift for Lex which
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: I'm looking forward to. Is it a big one, decent size? Yeah,
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: like it's it will serve her for many years.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Nice. We would, we would, but kids are one of
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: my parents plays. But the backyard's just too small here.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: They would just literally be you know, because we've got
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: the big deck and they've got the cover over the
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: deck now, so it's just yeah, there's no way way
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: to put it.
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: Good for catching practice though, for Elliott, even if you
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: just go down to the dad's love a couple of
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: balls that way.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: He watches Bluey Obviously he's watched the cricket episode. So
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: now he's practicing all these different shots, like like I'm rusty,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: but he yesterday we're playing in the backyard and the
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: backyard's not very big, but twelve balls when over fences
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: and the neighbors just throw He just knows the cricket
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: kid in the neighborhood now they just throw the balls back.
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: Actually, the other good you might not be able to
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: do it with modern trampolines and the side walls, but
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: I used to find really good catching practice was trying
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: to skim a tennis ball across the trampoline. Yeah, so
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: makee nice down on either side of it, like it's
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: a little slips cradle, because just depending on your angles,
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: you could get some real pop or you could get
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: a couple that would just shoot low. How old is
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: Elliott again?
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Six six?
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, so a couple of years away from like Milo, Well,
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: I know you'd be able to do milo blasters and
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: that sort of stuff.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't know about it until this was too late.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: So yeah, he hasn't that any of that yet, but
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: he will next year.
- 1:43:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: Also talk to me about which which clubs in Geelong
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: are not full of dickheads.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: When the time comes, and before we go, we shall
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: remind the listeners that you shall be returning. We're going
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: to do a review. We will do it on the
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Oh come on, oh your faithful.
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: Come on, oh your faithful.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Yeah, we're doing a review of that. I did read
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: out a review from a screen rant and they called
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: it something absolutely ridiculous. You know, I find with modern
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: day Simpsons a lot of screen rants, and that just
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: really talk it up because I feel a lot of
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: the show's creators now are constantly on social media, just
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: looking for any praise they can find to retweet and
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: reshare in their personal pages. So all these pages, all
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: these websites like screen rant and comic book dot com,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: they just overinflate the egos of these people to say
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: it's like the greatest thing, and it's just like it's not.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: It's fine, it's okay, it's not the greatest. What was
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: What was there one line of some of the lines
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: of was one of the greatest. Here we go the
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Simpsons Christmas version review screen rant oh, come on all
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: year Faithful is an unforgettable master class an animated comedy storytelling,
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: an unforgettable masterclass. Come on, guys, it's fine. It's a
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: solid six. It's not a modern day master class. What
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: are we doing here?
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: You'd marry, you'll marry a solid six.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: But anyway, but our review will not be that.
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: I was on the Disney Plus and I didn't know
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: how long has season one not been season one? For
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: in the listing? Season one is like season ninety nine.
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: They buried it way down the bottom of Disney, not
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: on mine. I don't know why yours of mine would
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: be any different.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: Let me go to the Disney Plus. The kids were
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: watching the original Christmas episode two days ago, and I
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: defined it the first episode. It was just their season one.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: This has been a glitch because so many people are
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: trying to watch it. Let's have a look. Let's go
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: to watch list Simpsons. I'm going to now episode season
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: You are right, the season one's gone. What the heck
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: you had to season ninety nine? Yeah, that must have
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: happened in the last twenty four to forty eight hours.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: Yeah, right, really bizarre, like this strange to hide it,
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: I'm going to screenshop that and put it on the
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: page and be like, what's up?
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: Yeah, what the fuck? Also, that is weird what happens
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: when The Simpsons inevitably gets to season ninety nine.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Because they're going to get there. Yeah, you'll never stop
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: the Simpsons. All right, it's been nice. You shall be
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: returning with the review of the Christmas Special. But until then,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: the Us.
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: By the way, I told I'll be fifteen minutes.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Nicholas waiting for me. Sure should be a sleep
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: by time I get there. Did Alright, We are back
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: now for the final segment of the twenty twenty four
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: for We're Gonna Gain Christmas Special, and our lovely friend
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Jet has joined us, hasn't he. Oh? The goodest of
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: good boys. Jet is the one constant sort of of
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: this show. He was here on the floor we recorded
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: the first episode ten years later. If we do the
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Christmas Special in twenty four, he's sitting on the floor
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: at my feet. He's just always been there. Ah, oh boy, God,
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: lovely eyes Jet. It's a beautiful, beautiful dog. That's right, buddy,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: I'm looking. I'm talking about you. Yeah, Babe, I know, babe,
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: I know it. We're gonna answer some of your mail
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: bag questions just to wrap up this one as well.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: Before actually we get into the mailbay, let's talk about
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: what our goals for twenty twenty five. For me, it's efficiency.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: Let's get this studio sworded, get everything released, get just
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: just make this machine a more well oiled machine. That's
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: my goal for twenty twenty five. That's a good one.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: It was an exciting plan. So stay tuned. Yes, indeed,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: stay tuned. I think my goal for twenty twenty four,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: I mean something I did during twenty five, My goal
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five. Something I did during twenty twenty four.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Was actually sit down and complete a writing project from
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: Go to Whoa and.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Realize, E, look, this was hard, but not as hard
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: as I thought it. Wait, go and he wrote Whoa
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: and in between plus stab two prout there anyway, but no,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: actually realize, Oh, if you do the work, you'll have
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: done the work. Yeah.
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: So yeah, I think twenty twenty five is going to
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: be of doing the work.
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: Yes, getting it all done, but Yeah, four figure just
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: can be very new and exciting in twenty twenty five.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Lots of exciting plans and I can't wait too finally
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: implement them. Just getting everything in order. But we asked
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: for some of the words question, Mitch is back. Mitch
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: is back. Some would say not better than ever, but
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: who knows. So we've got some mailbag questions from your
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: from you all out there, the patrons, the guys who
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: support us, git the lights on here at the four
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: figure Discant Network. Maddie Science says, what's your favorite Simpsons
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: related Christmas memory? Favorite Simpsons Christmas moment and then overall episode? Well,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: if you listen to our review of Miracle on Evergreen Terrace,
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: you know that's not my favorite. My favorite is Marge
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: be not proud, but I do think that's the better
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: Christmas special. The first episode of the Simpsons is just fantastic,
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: just the way they get sands of a helper and
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: it's beautiful. Favorite Simpsons related Christmas memory well, I remember
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: getting a Simpsons season box it from my nan. I
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: think it might have been season one. It was just like,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: oh my god, the Simpsons a DVD that was great
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: and all you know those moments when you're a Christmas
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: when you're a kidd and it's Christmas time and you
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: think I really want this, but I'm probably not going
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: to get it, and then your parents come through and
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: they get it for you. For me, it was behind you.
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I've still got them. The season one VHS collection, Oh
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: my Goodness, thirteen episodes across three VHS takes for the
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: lovel of price of fifty nine ninety five. But I
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: remember getting that and I my mum is saying it's
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: too expensive, you can't get it, throw me off Red
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Herring the fake out, Yeah, just psych and then opened
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: on present. It was there. I couldn't believe. I was like,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: I think that it was too much. She goes, oh, no,
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: I was just checking, just checking you out. Good on
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: your mom. I'm gonna double. Uh what's the word.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: I'm looking a second, That's what I'm gonna second. What
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Dana said about March Bead I Proud being the best
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: Christmas episode Simpsons run Christmas Memories. This is sort of
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: Christmas adjacent because I think it was towards the end
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: of the year, near Christmas time. But I remember I
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: was I was singing all the stage. I was hanging
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: out with my friend savvy Steve, just chilling on his couch,
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: you know, probably drinking and maybe even smoking stuff like cigarettes,
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: not not jazz cigarettes, but regular cigarettes.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: And enjoying like a hello jet, jet's getting very friendly.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Hey there, buddy, I see his tail was waging. He's
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: like like your near, Oh buddy, you're gonna run out
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: the dog with a dog with a sausage in his
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: mouth and the come back here with that.
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: I need it.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: And just watching a bunch of Simpson's episodes, yeah them
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: from the late afternoon into me I wouldn't say that
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: for a good few hours, and just you know, feeling
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: very at peace with the world. I think that was
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: probably when my love the Last Tentpation.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Of Homer came from. You love that episode. I love
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: that episode.
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: And I think that's maybe, if not the first time
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: I watched it, and certainly the first time, that I
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: really appreciate, because I think there's a difference.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: The first time watching it first time understanding or not understand,
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: but it's appreciated it because.
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: I remember just laughing like a loon at that. So yeah,
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: that's a that's a good memory.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: All right. Rach Beasley says, what's been your best or
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: favorite moment this year? Any news resolutions? So we've talked
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: about news resolutions, but what's been our favorite of the year.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: There have been some standouts. I mean a lot of
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: people keep bringing up there. I know it was this year,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: but the Devil's Advocate ding Ding Ding Ding, that was great.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: I've mentioned it recently. I loved our discussion on the
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: Trojan Horse in the South Great. We discussed that in
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: our South Park season wrap up. Many particular favorite moments
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: for you just on the podcast Just in Life.
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: I know what you mean, Yeah, I mean, but this
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: is podcast related. I like that we sort of expanded
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: the four Finger Discount universe to be talking about because
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: we you know, we talk about the Simpsons in South
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Park and all these various shows and that. But you know,
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: a lot of our a lot of our personal life
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: has been coming corporated into the shows, but also just
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: the everyday ship that we do, particularly around Geelong. I
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: mean a lot of people listening around the world, going
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: these local references.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: For local people, what the hell are they talking to you?
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: Pale faced guy and pale guys. The fact that you know,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: he becomes the characters, a supporting character in the in
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: the fourth.
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: But yeah, the fact that I would say, oh, because
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: you know, this coal supermarket is what maybe what three
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: or four k from.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Five minute drive. Yeah, as as a lot of playing
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: places in Geelong, it's a five minute drive from from
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: when you're closer to the city we've called the city.
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: It's just everything's close.
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: But this supermarket is close to both where Dandel and
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: I live. We both frequent it. And I said, there's
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: this guy really good at his job. I'm talking about
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: the pale guy. I think it's one of the good
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: things about living in I mean, Geelong likes to build itself.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: It's a regional city, so it's not a small town.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: But having said that, it does have a little bit
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: of a small town mentality in that everybody can't not
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: everybody knows everybody, but there's three degrees.
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: Of separation opposed to sex.
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and the fact that you know, we're able to
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: say pale guy and you know who pale guy is,
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: I think is great. It's something that I just think
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: it adds something nice to the show. It does and
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: to our conversation.
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: And then you brought up weird Maskid and and then
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: then and then there's weird maskd Fuck that guy. No, No,
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: he's cool as well, but he's not. He's no Pale Guy.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: He doesn't help you. No, he's like if I must,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: But Pale Guy's like, who help? Who help? He's who
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: you want on your team. Oh, he's a self start
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: of that guy. He's he's the one where they everyone
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: just knows. I'm Colin sick. I'll call Pale Guy. He'll
