- 0:35Speaker 2: Stay wicked.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Crimes come in all shapes and sizes. Some can be
- 0:47Speaker 1: as benign as jaywalking across the street or little excess
- 0:51Speaker 1: noise past certain hours in a suburb. From there, things
- 0:56Speaker 1: can escalate from vehicular speeding to that and all the
- 1:01Speaker 1: way up to murder. Today, a crime is committed that
- 1:05Speaker 1: isn't on the extreme end of the list. The music
- 1:08Speaker 1: store in the seventies called the Hi Fi Store was robbed,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but it did quickly escalate from there. Where it does
- 1:17Speaker 1: get worse is when the stores employees are held hostage
- 1:21Speaker 1: in the store's basement and made to do horrendous things
- 1:24Speaker 1: before being killed in front of one another. This is
- 1:29Speaker 1: the case known as the High Fi Murders.
- 1:34Speaker 2: My name's Ben and I'm Nicole, and you're listening to
- 1:37Speaker 2: Wicked and Grim, a true crime podcast.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The following podcast material intend more mature audience listener discretion.
- 2:10Speaker 1: A little bit of celebration today. Hey mm hm, did
- 2:13Speaker 1: you hear our ad at the beginning? Did you hear it?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Did you hear it?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:17Speaker 2: I heard it.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I think you did because you were a part of it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It was a good ad.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It was fearful. The new podcast that we started is
- 2:26Speaker 1: officially out. It's launched. Season one is live.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Wow. That's awesome. That feels good.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It does. It was a lot of work too, so
- 2:37Speaker 1: so yeah, if you guys want to check it out,
- 2:38Speaker 1: that'd be appreciated. Yeah, search fearful that the Spotify link
- 2:44Speaker 1: will be in the description. Yeah, most of you guys
- 2:46Speaker 1: are on Spotify who listen to us, so we'll provide
- 2:48Speaker 1: that link below. Give it a search.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, if you can't find it, let us know. But yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 2: with the link, that should help.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, what are you drinking today? I just realized you
- 2:57Speaker 1: got to care.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You're gonna ask me that right now. That's like something
- 3:00Speaker 2: I really don't want to share.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Why what is it?
- 3:03Speaker 2: It's kind of gross? Actually, well, it's not terrible, but
- 3:05Speaker 2: it's like a Greens drink. Like there's a whole bunch
- 3:08Speaker 2: of greens in powder form with like some gut health
- 3:12Speaker 2: stuff in there. Like it's like it's basically like the
- 3:14Speaker 2: healthiest possible drink you can be drinking.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So it's nasty as fuck, is what you're saying.
- 3:19Speaker 2: It's not nasty for greens. It's like pretty good, but
- 3:21Speaker 2: it's quite thick. It's like black in color almost.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It looks pretty gnarly. Anytime I wash your custance always
- 3:29Speaker 1: like a guessing game on what the fuck is in it?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know. It's just just be good
- 3:33Speaker 2: for like gut held and energy and stuff.
- 3:35Speaker 1: So well that's good.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I'm a basic bitch that believes in that shit.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So hey, take care of yourself. There you go, you're
- 3:41Speaker 1: basic bitch drinking your greens. I'm a basic bro drinking
- 3:44Speaker 1: my beer.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Hey. Oh, I was gonna say your craft beer, but
- 3:47Speaker 2: I don't really think that's considered craft beer, is it.
- 3:49Speaker 1: No? No, it's not, although it is very popular in
- 3:52Speaker 1: Vancouver at least it used to be.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, because yeah it's kind of it's hipster, but it's
- 3:57Speaker 2: not really craft.
- 3:58Speaker 1: No, it's a small brewer. But yeah, if anyone knows
- 4:03Speaker 1: in the British Columbia or maybe even Alberta area, Cariboo
- 4:07Speaker 1: Caribou beer, Yeah, brood right here and Prince George we live.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And it's a little bit on the cheaper side than
- 4:12Speaker 2: like craft beer, like less expensive.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Oh definitely. So I'll like splurred sometimes get a craft
- 4:16Speaker 1: and then like this is my what I call it
- 4:18Speaker 1: grocery beer.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Anyways, enough of beer and gut health.
- 4:25Speaker 2: We're pretty much on the opposite of spectrums right.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Now, pretty much. But let's thank our patrons. Let's do it, Okay,

- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Should we get on with case? Should we do this?
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think so?
- 5:29Speaker 1: You ready, let's do it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I've actually heard of this case, not that I could
- 5:33Speaker 2: say I know much about it, but I had the
- 5:36Speaker 2: title for once actually rings a Bell.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Well, are you able to say anything that you know
- 5:40Speaker 1: about it? Or is it just kind of like, hey,
- 5:42Speaker 1: this rings a bell and.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Like can't okay, I mean, as you go through, things
- 5:46Speaker 2: might dawn on me. But the title was definitely I
- 5:50Speaker 2: was like, oh, okay, this is a bigger case. I
- 5:51Speaker 2: feel like it is.
- 5:52Speaker 1: A bit of a bigger case for sure. Yeah, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's kind of a brutal in a sense of what
- 5:59Speaker 1: some of the people had to go through. That's a
- 6:00Speaker 1: big part of this awesome yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Wow, because there's a lot of nasty motherfuckers in this world.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Oh, there certainly is people who are shortage brutal things,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and this is no exception to that case. Because yeah, okay,
- 6:18Speaker 1: let's hear it, let's do it. So it starts on
- 6:21Speaker 1: April twenty second, nineteen seventy four. This goes back to Ogden, Utah,
- 6:27Speaker 1: where the Hi Fi Audio Store was about to close
- 6:30Speaker 1: for the day. Now, Stanley Walker was twenty years old
- 6:33Speaker 1: and Michelle Ainsley was eighteen. They were the only two
- 6:37Speaker 1: employees on the shift of the time. They were preparing
- 6:40Speaker 1: to finish up at the store for the day, which
- 6:42Speaker 1: was located on twenty three oh nine Washington Boulevard. So
- 6:47Speaker 1: the store, the High Fi Store, consisted of home audio
- 6:49Speaker 1: equipment like speakers. I mean, this is a seventy so
- 6:52Speaker 1: record players, stacks of records lined the walls, all this
- 6:56Speaker 1: sort of stuff for popular music of the era, that
- 6:59Speaker 1: sort of thing, right.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it probably would have been a popular store.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm thinking like HMV of the early two thousands
- 7:05Speaker 1: and nineties. For me growing up with all the CDs everywhere, yep,
- 7:09Speaker 1: well I just dated myself that, Yeah, you really did. Anyways,
- 7:14Speaker 1: this one had records. So the two employees were cleaning up,
- 7:18Speaker 1: getting ready to close the store, and just before they
- 7:21Speaker 1: were ready to close shop and lock the doors, something
- 7:24Speaker 1: unexpected happened. Some men entered the store. Some men entered
- 7:30Speaker 1: the store brandishing handguns oh shit, yeah, and pointing them
- 7:36Speaker 1: right directly in the face of the young workers.
- 7:39Speaker 2: That's terrifying, yep.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Now two workers were staring down the barrel of these guns.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It was something quite literally out of a nightmare. But
- 7:50Speaker 1: they kept their cool as best that they could. However,
- 7:55Speaker 1: it's unfortunate though they wouldn't be the only ones involved
- 8:00Speaker 1: the robbery just beginning to happen. Sixteen year old Courtney
- 8:04Speaker 1: Nayspit would unknowingly stubble into the robbery and progress.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Oh shit, like as a customer.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Not as a customer. So a little bit of the
- 8:14Speaker 1: backstory here. Courtney was running some errands earlier around town
- 8:19Speaker 1: and he was friends with Stanley who worked at the store. Okay,
- 8:24Speaker 1: so he was like, Hey, I'm running some aarons around town.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Do you mind if I'm just like parking the store's
- 8:29Speaker 1: parking lot, because like, parking is tough sometimes, right, so
- 8:32Speaker 1: can I just use a store parking lot and like
- 8:33Speaker 1: walk around, do my errands and come back grab my
- 8:35Speaker 1: car and sort of thing. Okay, so he got permission
- 8:38Speaker 1: to do so, and he was just returning from his errands,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and he went to enter inside the store to thank
- 8:42Speaker 1: his friend and express the gratitude being allowed to partner
- 8:45Speaker 1: the car spot. And he entered the store and was
- 8:48Speaker 1: greeted not with the usual friendly atmosphere, but instead with
- 8:53Speaker 1: the sight of his friends standing still as the robbers
- 8:56Speaker 1: brandished the gun in his face.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Retal, that is just it's one of those moments where
- 9:01Speaker 2: it's just really just the most shittiest timing kind of thing. Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 2: like you're really just in the wrong place at the
- 9:10Speaker 2: wrong time.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yep. That's pretty much the gist of that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Because yeah, he could have just parted somewhere else and then,
- 9:17Speaker 2: you know, wouldn't have to deal with what we're about
- 9:19Speaker 2: to hear.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Well, and even if he was just like, hey, thanks
- 9:22Speaker 1: letting me park here, I'm going to go do my errands,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'll take off and I'll leave you be. Instead of
- 9:26Speaker 1: bothering you.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Again, oh, instead of being nice and thanking again.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Right, but instead instead of popping in his car and
- 9:34Speaker 1: taken off. He went back in to see his friend
- 9:36Speaker 1: again for a second time to say thank you. Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and that's what caught him in the situation.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Dang.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So the men of course quickly noticed him entering the store,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and of course quickly apprehended him as well. So now
- 9:50Speaker 1: they had three hostages if you will, or victims, and
- 9:54Speaker 1: they took the three of them and directed them down
- 9:56Speaker 1: to the basement of the store. They were there, each
- 10:01Speaker 1: were forced to lay down on the ground on their
- 10:03Speaker 1: stomachs and they began to tie them up, binding their
- 10:06Speaker 1: hands and feet together.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Jeez.
- 10:09Speaker 1: As the three were being bound in the store, the
- 10:12Speaker 1: robbers were looking through the store's stock. Time was ticking by.
- 10:16Speaker 1: They needed to figure out what exactly they were going
- 10:18Speaker 1: to do, right, They're clearly here to rob the store,
- 10:21Speaker 1: so they're kind of keeping an eye out through the
- 10:22Speaker 1: whole process.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:24Speaker 1: It was also during this that time was beginning to
- 10:27Speaker 1: Like I say, tick By and Stanley should have been
- 10:31Speaker 1: home by now from work, and Courtney was also expected
- 10:34Speaker 1: to be home by now, But for some reason, it
- 10:36Speaker 1: seemed the errands were taking a little too long. So
- 10:39Speaker 1: concerned for their children's safety, Stanley's father or in Walker
- 10:44Speaker 1: and Courtney's mother, Carol Naysbit, would each separately go out
- 10:49Speaker 1: in search of their own kids.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Okay, they were on it, Hey they were.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And now, remember this is the seventies two, because this
- 10:55Speaker 1: is before social media, this is before cell phones. So
- 10:58Speaker 1: you can't just be like, hey, I'm gonna send you
- 11:01Speaker 1: a text or I'm going to Facebook or Instagram or
- 11:03Speaker 1: snapchat you. It's uh no, if you want to get
- 11:06Speaker 1: a hold of someone, you actually have to go out
- 11:08Speaker 1: and physically track them down. So Carol, let's start with her,
- 11:14Speaker 1: would make her way to the high Fi shop as
- 11:16Speaker 1: she knew her son Courtney had probably made his way
- 11:19Speaker 1: there to see his friend Stanley. Now, she parked a
- 11:21Speaker 1: car at the rear of the store, of course, seeing
- 11:23Speaker 1: her son's car there.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Too, right, Yep.
- 11:25Speaker 1: She entered through the back of the store. I'm assuming
- 11:28Speaker 1: by this point she's probably pretty familiar with the staff
- 11:30Speaker 1: because her friend's there lots. She knew to go there,
- 11:33Speaker 1: so I'm sure she's been in and out quite a bit.
- 11:35Speaker 1: She was on a mission, and I'm pretty sure it
- 11:37Speaker 1: was with an angry mother's intent, because she just kind
- 11:40Speaker 1: of like barged in looking for her son, and of course,
- 11:43Speaker 1: looking for an explanation, being like, what the fuck, why
- 11:46Speaker 1: are you out here? Spokes to be doing errands? Now,
- 11:48Speaker 1: you're just chilling at the record store, right, So she
- 11:53Speaker 1: flung the back door open and walked into the shop.
- 11:57Speaker 1: She was met instantly with one of the robbers and
- 12:00Speaker 1: a gun pointed directly in her face, and he shouted
- 12:03Speaker 1: what are you doing here? Man? And without missing a beat,
- 12:07Speaker 1: even with the gun in her face, she replied, I'm
- 12:09Speaker 1: checking on my son. What's going on here?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Seriously, like she was just like on a mission, hey,
- 12:15Speaker 2: like get the fuck out of my way.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, a gun in her face and she's like, what
- 12:19Speaker 1: the fuck are you doing?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Wow?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Props to her because I probably would have wet myself
- 12:23Speaker 1: in that situation.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, you almost feel like your instinct would well,
- 12:28Speaker 2: I don't know, like turn around and leave. But like
- 12:31Speaker 2: then your son's also in there, so you got to
- 12:33Speaker 2: get your shit together.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And to be fair, like it could have been shock
- 12:36Speaker 1: as well. That put that sort of facade on. Yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 1: not even realizing like what is in her face right now,
- 12:42Speaker 1: she's just got someone like back talking to her and
- 12:46Speaker 1: she's just like, well, where's my son? Before she even
- 12:49Speaker 1: notices that it's a gun.
- 12:50Speaker 2: You know, because she knows her son is in there, and.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but regardless of why or how this played out,
- 12:55Speaker 1: she did that and that is awesome in my opinions. Yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 1: so props to her for for that. So with this,
- 13:02Speaker 1: more of the robbers came running up the stairs seconds later,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and they would take Carol downstairs to where her son
- 13:11Speaker 1: was bound laying on the floor.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Dang it. So she did not get away.
- 13:14Speaker 1: She did not. So Courtney, when his mother walked in upstairs,
- 13:18Speaker 1: immediately recognized his mom's voice, and then she would be
- 13:24Speaker 1: forced downstairs. She would see her son laying on the floor.
- 13:27Speaker 1: She too would be forced on the floor and bound.
- 13:31Speaker 1: They never spoke a word to each other as they
- 13:33Speaker 1: laid next to each other.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Dang no, I mean, and that would be such a
- 13:37Speaker 2: feeling for Courtney because like I think he'd be kind
- 13:40Speaker 2: of relieved, like wow, like my mom's here, like maybe
- 13:43Speaker 2: she can help me, But then also like shit, now
- 13:46Speaker 2: my mom's in the same situation. Like it would be
- 13:48Speaker 2: such mixed emotion.
- 13:49Speaker 1: It would be because especially it's like my mom's here
- 13:53Speaker 1: because of me, not because of him, don't get me wrong,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but like she's she's here searching for me.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's not in any way, shape or form Courtney's fault.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I want to clarify that. But it's like she's here
- 14:08Speaker 1: because I'm here.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: So Stanley's father or in would find himself in the
- 14:15Speaker 1: very same situation. He would go to the store in
- 14:18Speaker 1: search of his son, who was supposed to have closed
- 14:20Speaker 1: up shift and be home by now, and was greeted
- 14:22Speaker 1: again with a gun in his face. Was then led
- 14:25Speaker 1: to the basement. Was that thrown on the floor and
- 14:28Speaker 1: tied up just like the rest.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's surprising to me that they kind of come, they
- 14:34Speaker 2: get in there, and they're met with the because there's
- 14:37Speaker 2: only two robbers right like that, it's not startling to
- 14:41Speaker 2: these robbers that these people are coming in or that
- 14:43Speaker 2: the doors aren't locked.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And like, I haven't actually said how many robbers there are.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Oh shit, okay, I did that on purpose. However, since
- 14:54Speaker 1: you asked, I will explain and divulge a little bit
- 14:58Speaker 1: of that information. There are reportedly a total of six robbers,
- 15:04Speaker 1: holy shit, two of which are dealing with the vehicles
- 15:09Speaker 1: outside the two vans that had pulled up, Two of
- 15:12Speaker 1: which who are dealing with moving equipment from out of
- 15:16Speaker 1: the store into the vans, and two of which that
- 15:19Speaker 1: are holding the guns and holding the hostages captive.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Okay, that's a lot of people then.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yes, so I'll be talking about that a little bit
- 15:26Speaker 1: later on. But that is the primary information on it.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But I'll be talking about that a little bit later on. So,
- 15:32Speaker 1: now these six robbers had a total of five captives
- 15:37Speaker 1: and they decided not only to rob the place, but
- 15:39Speaker 1: they needed to ensure they got rid of any witness
- 15:42Speaker 1: that they had. And this is where things get dark.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So one of the men was pacing the basement with
- 15:50Speaker 1: all their captive laying on the floor in front of him,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and after a few moments, he grabbed a jug and
- 15:56Speaker 1: began pouring a cup of mysterious blue liquid. He approached
- 16:02Speaker 1: the mother Carol and said we're going to have a
- 16:06Speaker 1: little cocktail party. Then he proceeded to force the drink
- 16:12Speaker 1: down her throat, forced the contents that he claimed was
- 16:16Speaker 1: just a mix of vodka and sleeping pills. He pulled
- 16:20Speaker 1: her hair back and forced it in her mouth and
- 16:23Speaker 1: forced her to drink immediately. With this touching her tongue,
- 16:29Speaker 1: she began to gag and cough on the liquid as
- 16:32Speaker 1: it was spewing from her mouth and nose. It left
- 16:34Speaker 1: her lying on the floor desperately gasping for air. The
- 16:40Speaker 1: reason for her violent reaction was she was just forced
- 16:44Speaker 1: to drink a cup of draino.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yep, okay, that is ringing a bell. That is brutal.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it is so draino. Just for a little background
- 16:56Speaker 1: on this product, it contains several harsh chemicals which include lye, aluminium, salt, bleach,
- 17:04Speaker 1: sodium nitrate, and of course a plethora of others. The
- 17:09Speaker 1: lye being a very primary ingredient which rapidly dissolves organic material.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Holy shit, it is.
- 17:17Speaker 1: What makes draino draino because it dissolves things like hair
- 17:21Speaker 1: in your oh my god, for example. So it will
- 17:24Speaker 1: dissolve dissolve organic material like hair, grease and skin cells.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Wow.
- 17:30Speaker 1: It's essentially an or an acid for organic material. So
- 17:36Speaker 1: one by one the robber began to force his hostages
- 17:40Speaker 1: to drink the draino. He walked back to the bottle,
- 17:44Speaker 1: filled up the cup, and approached his next victim and
- 17:47Speaker 1: forced it down their gullet.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Oh gosh, does it I don't even know, Like if
- 17:52Speaker 2: that would kill you it like quickly, I don't know. Okay,
- 17:56Speaker 2: just keep listening here, those terrible visuals here.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not fun, I'm sure. So. Time and time
- 18:05Speaker 1: again forced the liquid upon them, and the draina would
- 18:09Speaker 1: cause excruciatingly severe pain for each of them. The fumes
- 18:13Speaker 1: alone were enough to be burning their eyes, and the
- 18:16Speaker 1: chemicals were causing severe blistering, bleeding and convulsions in the victims.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, their mouths, tongues, and throats were just
- 18:26Speaker 1: being burned and melted. They were bleeding and violently vomiting
- 18:32Speaker 1: in the process. Unhappy with the fact that the chemical
- 18:37Speaker 1: was being regurgitated, the robber then decided he was going
- 18:42Speaker 1: to pour the chemical in their mouth holy shit, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: then tape their mouth shut, ensuring no liquid would escape.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Okay, I was not expecting that, Kay, who the shit
- 18:57Speaker 2: like thinks about this kind of stuff? And like then
- 19:01Speaker 2: also is a monster to go and do it?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, douche canoes for sure.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean worse than that. Really, this that is just.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Beyond monstrous.
- 19:13Speaker 2: It's it's I feel like that would just be kind
- 19:16Speaker 2: of almost on like the top of like terrible ways
- 19:19Speaker 2: to die.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, his attempt to tape their mouths closed was unsuccessful,
- 19:27Speaker 1: primarily because the skin around their mouths had all melted
- 19:31Speaker 1: and peeled away, leaving their raw flesh exposed, and the
- 19:35Speaker 1: tape refused to stick to the wet surface on their face.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oh I can't Okay, that's that is too much. Wow.
- 19:45Speaker 1: The robber wasn't happy. What he wanted for his captives
- 19:49Speaker 1: in the basement was to pass out as a result
- 19:52Speaker 1: of the chemical and basically die in their sleep. Okay,
- 19:55Speaker 1: this isn't happening. That's not even close to what this
- 19:59Speaker 1: draino was doing to them.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Well, yeah, they so they just literally thought that they
- 20:02Speaker 2: would like consume this and then like be out and
- 20:05Speaker 2: that's it. Yes, okay, I feel like that is like
- 20:10Speaker 2: really stupid.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yes it is. Yeah, I'm not gonna lie lie to you.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's very stupid. They had reason to think this, though, okay,
- 20:20Speaker 1: which I'll get.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Into later because I feel like that's not how I
- 20:23Speaker 2: would have imagined this to occur.
- 20:26Speaker 1: No, no, me either. No. They were just hoping for
- 20:30Speaker 1: like an easy, quiet death so they could just rob
- 20:33Speaker 1: the place and move on. But here they are with
- 20:35Speaker 1: people like vomiting, convulsive growing, like screaming, and it's brutal. Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: this wasn't easy or quiet in any shape or form. No,
- 20:45Speaker 1: it was loud, messy, and since they were vomiting so much,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, of course, it's not even going to kill
- 20:50Speaker 1: them at all because it's not staying in their system.
- 20:54Speaker 1: So during this whole time, the robbers were in and
- 20:56Speaker 1: out of the store upstairs loading the vehicle. They were
- 21:00Speaker 1: up and down the stairs, also debating with the others
- 21:03Speaker 1: downstairs what they were exactly going to be doing. In
- 21:07Speaker 1: the whole process. They were wiping down any fingerprints that
- 21:09Speaker 1: they were leaving behind robbing the store as well. By now,
- 21:14Speaker 1: they clearly intended to have dealt with their hostage situation.
- 21:18Speaker 1: But it's not going so hot. So out of frustration,
- 21:25Speaker 1: one of the men grabbed this gun and proceeded to
- 21:29Speaker 1: shoot Carol and Courtney, both the mother and son, execution
- 21:33Speaker 1: style in the back of the head.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Okay, just like I'm going to just get this done
- 21:38Speaker 2: kind of thing, Yes, was probably what was going through
- 21:40Speaker 2: this motherfucker's mind exactly.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Stanley Walker was next to be shot in the head,
- 21:47Speaker 1: and Orrin Walker would follow the father and son. The bullet, however,
- 21:53Speaker 1: missed Orrian on the first shot, so he was shot
- 21:56Speaker 1: a second time. One of the men then focused on
- 22:01Speaker 1: Michelle Ainsley, the store's eighteen year old employee. He grabbed
- 22:05Speaker 1: her and forced her into a far corner of the
- 22:08Speaker 1: dimly lit basement and forced her, at gunpoint to remove
- 22:11Speaker 1: her clothing.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, is she the only one left at
- 22:14Speaker 2: this point?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Then? Ah?
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yes, seriously, Okay, this is terrifying for her.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Here the man would sexually assault her and rape her,
- 22:25Speaker 1: and when he was done, he'd drug her, still nude,
- 22:29Speaker 1: back over to where the other hostages lay. He lifted
- 22:32Speaker 1: the gun towards her head, and as he did, Michelle
- 22:34Speaker 1: said quote, I am too young to die, right before
- 22:39Speaker 1: he pulled the trigger, shooting her in the head, killing her.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Jeez, holy, these people are just monstrous.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Isn't that fucking disgusting?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yep, yep.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I can't believe. Like we do a lot of these cases,
- 22:53Speaker 1: like a lot of true crime with a lot of
- 22:55Speaker 1: brutal things, and it just baffles me every time how
- 22:58Speaker 1: people can be capable of these fucking things.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Actually it's very mind blowing and like
- 23:07Speaker 2: it's i don't know, like it's onre like it's not
- 23:10Speaker 2: even reasonable, like or not. This might be the wrong word,
- 23:13Speaker 2: but like they could have literally just have tied them
- 23:15Speaker 2: up down there and done their thing and left. Yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 2: and like worn masks or something so that they weren't identifiable.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Right, what does this ski mask cost? Right? I think
- 23:25Speaker 1: back in the seventies that probably would be like a
- 23:27Speaker 1: dollar or less. Probably you probably find a ski mask
- 23:30Speaker 1: at the dollar store today in the right season for
- 23:32Speaker 1: a dollar.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, but instead that it like take all these people's
- 23:36Speaker 2: lives and the fact too, like they I mean, if
- 23:40Speaker 2: they wanted this like quick death. It's interesting that they
- 23:43Speaker 2: didn't just shoot them in the head to begin.
- 23:45Speaker 1: With, but well, they were wanting to avoid anything.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Loud loud like okay, like a gunshot okay.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Which is showcased in this next part because after he
- 23:56Speaker 1: had shot Michelle, he had actually noticed that Orn was
- 23:59Speaker 1: still alive. The previous the guy who had previously been
- 24:02Speaker 1: missed and then shot the second time. Yeah, the second
- 24:04Speaker 1: shot had actually only really grazed him. So they decided
- 24:09Speaker 1: they were going to choke him out a piece of wire.
- 24:13Speaker 1: So the man then straddled him, tried strangling him, and
- 24:17Speaker 1: again was unsuccessful in killing him.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Wow, he sure has like that's a will to live. Hey.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Next two of the men decided they had an
- 24:28Speaker 1: idea on how to finally take care of him.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Maybe, Like, I don't know, this is just like so inhumane,
- 24:35Speaker 2: Like I mean, none of it is human. Oh gosh, okay,
- 24:38Speaker 2: I don't even want to know if I want to know, Well.
- 24:42Speaker 1: This is arguing. I mean, of course the draino was bad,
- 24:45Speaker 1: but this is arguably one of the more inhumane things,
- 24:48Speaker 1: if not the inhumane thing too. It's up there with
- 24:50Speaker 1: the drainer, let's put it that way. They laid Orrin
- 24:54Speaker 1: on his side, took a ball point pen and stuck
- 24:57Speaker 1: it point side down in his ear.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Then one of the men stood back and stomped down
- 25:04Speaker 1: with all his weight onto the pen, sending it straight
- 25:07Speaker 1: through his ear drum and it stuck out through the
- 25:10Speaker 1: side of his throat.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, that is fucked. Yeah, I excuse my French,
- 25:18Speaker 2: but what the actual.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Right researching this, I my jaw was like dropped.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and sorry, who is he one of the workers
- 25:29Speaker 2: or is he the dad?
- 25:30Speaker 1: Or who is he's the dad?
- 25:31Speaker 2: The dad? Okay, gosh did that kill him?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Then?
- 25:36Speaker 2: I don't even think it would.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Have we'll move on here.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I'll just torturing the shit out of him.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'll let you know. Finally, having dealt with their hostages,
- 25:44Speaker 1: all the men finished loading their vehicle with the stolen
- 25:47Speaker 1: property and then would drive away. It would be several
- 25:51Speaker 1: hours later, almost three hours in fact, that the victims
- 25:54Speaker 1: would be discovered. Orrin's wife and their other son made
- 25:58Speaker 1: their way to the store looking for him. They heard
- 26:01Speaker 1: some noises coming from inside the building when they realized
- 26:04Speaker 1: someone was in there and something was wrong. Most likely
- 26:08Speaker 1: it was Oran, hearing their footsteps outside trying to get attention.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Still alive, doing.
- 26:16Speaker 1: What they could, they managed to break down the door
- 26:19Speaker 1: of the store and made their way into the basement.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Police were immediately called and they found the horrendous scene
- 26:27Speaker 1: in the basement. Everyone was left for dead, but miraculously,
- 26:31Speaker 1: Carol and Courtney, along with Orn, were all still alive.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Seriously, yes, holy, that's shocking.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Carol, unfortunately, though, would be pronounced dead on arrival at
- 26:45Speaker 1: the hospital. Courtney, though, who was also expected to find
- 26:49Speaker 1: the same fate as his mother, did survive. Wow, though
- 26:53Speaker 1: was left with severe irreparable brain damage. He would spend
- 26:57Speaker 1: a total of two hundred and sixty six days in
- 26:59Speaker 1: the hospital. Oh my gosh, Orin was found with the
- 27:04Speaker 1: ballpoint pens still lodged in his ear. He would survive
- 27:09Speaker 1: and would be left scarred from the intensive burns in
- 27:12Speaker 1: his mouth and of course the damage from the pen.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And he was shot twice too, right.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Missed the first time, grazed the second.
- 27:22Speaker 2: That is shocking to me that he likes to survive.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah, no kidding. Wow, by every account, he should be dead.
- 27:28Speaker 2: No kidding, Huh.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It wouldn't take long for the story of the horrific
- 27:34Speaker 1: crime to make the news in the local area, which
- 27:37Speaker 1: I mean understandably. Something this fucking horrendous, How can people
- 27:41Speaker 1: not be talking about it?
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be all over the news.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and of course investigation going full fledged forward trying
- 27:49Speaker 1: to figure out who the hell could be capable of
- 27:52Speaker 1: this and who did it?
- 27:53Speaker 2: Well, that would be just terrifying to know that these
- 27:55Speaker 2: people were like out and about still.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Right, Could you imagine hearing that happening in your town
- 28:01Speaker 1: right now, wherever you're from. I don't care if it's
- 28:03Speaker 1: a big city like fucking New York or a little
- 28:06Speaker 1: tiny town like Hickson, which is just outside where we're from.
- 28:09Speaker 1: When it's got like five hundred people. Can you imagine
- 28:13Speaker 1: hearing that saying that, yeah, this just happened.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like you would definitely spend a bit
- 28:18Speaker 2: of extra time, like checking over your shoulder and just
- 28:22Speaker 2: like a little uneasy for sure.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Definitely. And like, don't get me wrong, I understand that
- 28:27Speaker 1: in like New York shit, crazy shit happens a.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Lot, but this is bad.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, tell me that people were forced to drink draino
- 28:35Speaker 1: when someone stomped a ballpoint pen into a man's head
- 28:38Speaker 1: and then he continued to survive. And you're not gonna
- 28:41Speaker 1: sit here and go what the fuck?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Like this is actual? Just to think that this is
- 28:46Speaker 2: capable other humans doing this terrible of stuff to other
- 28:51Speaker 2: people is mind blowing.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah, because it is one thing. Don't get me wrong,
- 28:55Speaker 1: it's still horrendous. But it's one thing to pull the
- 28:57Speaker 1: trigger on a gun and kill a person because the
- 29:01Speaker 1: gun is doing the damage. You mean, you're causing the
- 29:04Speaker 1: gun to do it, You're still taking a life fucking horrific,
- 29:07Speaker 1: But stomping a pen into someone's head.
- 29:11Speaker 2: After you forcefully already made them consume draino and watch
- 29:15Speaker 2: the effects of that. Yeah, And you're still like in
- 29:18Speaker 2: this mindset to just keep destroying and torturing them.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, a gun takes an instant, a split second. It's
- 29:25Speaker 1: over what he's doing with this situation of the draino
- 29:28Speaker 1: plus the pen plus trying to strangle and shoot him
- 29:31Speaker 1: in the process. How many times did he have to
- 29:33Speaker 1: think about it? How many times did he have this
- 29:36Speaker 1: man's life in his fucking hands? Right?
- 29:38Speaker 2: I forgot about the strangling too goodness, this por okay?
- 29:44Speaker 2: But then and then his son died though too, right,
- 29:47Speaker 2: So he's like survived all of this and his son
- 29:50Speaker 2: still died, correct, which.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Is I don't know, well as horrific. This is, like
- 29:55Speaker 1: I said, It started to make news rather quickly, and
- 29:59Speaker 1: luckily for police. Only hours after the news broke they
- 30:03Speaker 1: had an anonymous phone call come in. Okay, it was
- 30:06Speaker 1: from an employee at the local Air Force. So, according
- 30:11Speaker 1: to their statement, another fellow employee at the air Force
- 30:15Speaker 1: had told them a couple months ago that the man
- 30:18Speaker 1: by the name the employee who said this apparently was
- 30:21Speaker 1: William Andrews, and he said this, one of these days,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm going to rob that high fi shop and if
- 30:28Speaker 1: anybody gets in the way, I'm going to kill him?
- 30:32Speaker 2: And who was this story?
- 30:33Speaker 1: He was a what he was employed at the air
- 30:36Speaker 1: Force really the local air Force?
- 30:38Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so someone from the air Force called in and said, yes,
- 30:42Speaker 1: someone I work with said this to me a couple
- 30:44Speaker 1: months ago.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Wow. To even say that aloud to anyone, Yeah, and.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Then loan and behold here a couple months later, the
- 30:50Speaker 1: stores robbed and people died seems a little convenient, no, kidding,
- 30:55Speaker 1: little suss. It was, of course an interesting lead, for sure,
- 31:00Speaker 1: But this statement like that, it's not necessarily anything without
- 31:05Speaker 1: evidence to back it up, right, Because mean, sure someone
- 31:08Speaker 1: can say that, someone could literally even intend it.
- 31:11Speaker 2: People say weird shit all the time.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but even if he intended to do it, even
- 31:15Speaker 1: if he says, yes, I'm going to do this, who's
- 31:18Speaker 1: to say someone else didn't do it before him? Yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 1: where's the proof to say he did it?
- 31:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:24Speaker 1: Exactly, So you need evidence to go along with it.
- 31:29Speaker 1: This is where the police would find their second stroke
- 31:31Speaker 1: of luck. Only a couple hours after they received that
- 31:35Speaker 1: phone call, another one came in, and it was with
- 31:38Speaker 1: the evidence they needed. Two teenage boys just so happened
- 31:44Speaker 1: to be dumpster diving near the air Force base, and
- 31:46Speaker 1: while doing so, they managed to find wallets and purses
- 31:50Speaker 1: that contained the idea of the victims from the Hi
- 31:53Speaker 1: Fi store. So during the robbery, the men had stolen
- 31:57Speaker 1: not only the stores stock but the victim's personal belongings
- 32:02Speaker 1: as well, and then clearly dumped it in the dumpster.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Geez, right where they probably expected to.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Find something exactly. So now you have someone saying, this
- 32:12Speaker 1: employee here said he was going to do it. Oh,
- 32:14Speaker 1: by the way, in the same spot is evidence from
- 32:18Speaker 1: the fucking robbery.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Wow, that is that's They probably did not expect it
- 32:24Speaker 2: like that, to find that sort of evidence that right
- 32:27Speaker 2: off the get go right, No.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I don't think so. So detectives of course went out
- 32:32Speaker 1: right away, and when they arrived in the scene, they
- 32:35Speaker 1: began to start pulling things out of the dumpster, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: a crowd started to gather rather quickly of Air Force
- 32:41Speaker 1: based employees. So being smart, this is actually genius. These
- 32:46Speaker 1: guys won an award for their geniusness on this later on.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But the detectives knew that the men responsible were likely
- 32:55Speaker 1: in the crowd watching the dumpster evidence being proud.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, okay, this is I'm getting excited here.
- 33:01Speaker 2: They're like thinking shit through.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Yeah. So, as they're pulling evidence out of the dumpster,
- 33:06Speaker 1: this crowd is gathering, and the detectives are like, I
- 33:09Speaker 1: guarantee you the fuckers are watching us right here, right now. Wow,
- 33:12Speaker 1: they're in this fucking crowd. So they made a show
- 33:15Speaker 1: of it. Using a pair of tongs, they pulled pieces
- 33:18Speaker 1: of evidence from the dumpster one by one, holding them
- 33:21Speaker 1: high in the air and making a very big dramatic
- 33:24Speaker 1: scene about it, trying to build up as much tension
- 33:27Speaker 1: as they could, so all the while they were watching
- 33:30Speaker 1: the crowd. During this they're watching each employee very closely.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Apparently most of the personnel who had gathered stood rather
- 33:39Speaker 1: still and watched with relative silence and intentiveness, except for
- 33:45Speaker 1: two men who were pacing rather frequently.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Seriously, Hey, that I don't know why. I don't think
- 33:52Speaker 2: I would have ex Okay, well, this is probably why
- 33:54Speaker 2: I'm not like a homicide person. But like our investigator
- 33:58Speaker 2: is that I wouldn't have expected the people to be
- 34:01Speaker 2: in the crowd for some reason. But it makes so
- 34:03Speaker 2: much sense.
- 34:04Speaker 1: It does well, they say a lot of the time
- 34:06Speaker 1: they returned to the scene of the crime, sort of yeah,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and this is probably that portion of it.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 1: So those two men were men by the name of
- 34:14Speaker 1: William Andrews, which is already the one who was called
- 34:17Speaker 1: in and Dale Selby Pierre. Now one of the men,
- 34:23Speaker 1: like I said, was already identified, and because of all
- 34:26Speaker 1: the stuff that was going on the phone call the
- 34:29Speaker 1: evidence their strange behavior, they were able to get a
- 34:31Speaker 1: search warrant to quickly search the barracks that they were
- 34:35Speaker 1: staying in on the property.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 34:39Speaker 1: And of course the search for evidence continued. Police would
- 34:43Speaker 1: find a couple of interesting things, one being flyers for
- 34:46Speaker 1: the Hi Fi shop, which it doesn't say a lot,
- 34:50Speaker 1: but it's an interesting piece, right, and the other was
- 34:54Speaker 1: a rental agreement for a storage unit under the name
- 34:57Speaker 1: of Dale Selby Pierre. Upon searching said storage unit, they
- 35:02Speaker 1: found all the stolen equipment from the high Fi shop,
- 35:06Speaker 1: which would later be identified via serial numbers. So in
- 35:10Speaker 1: that unit they also found one more thing, what a
- 35:14Speaker 1: half full bottle of draino.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, seriously, why I'm surprised that they would
- 35:21Speaker 2: have kept the draino Yeah, in the storage unit like that,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I agree, probably because they figured it had like or
- 35:27Speaker 2: like murder evidence on there. Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 1: So now they had this Pierre guy Dale, I guess
- 35:36Speaker 1: i'll call him Dale Dale Selby. I don't know if
- 35:37Speaker 1: that's his full name, the two names or if it's
- 35:40Speaker 1: but I'll just call him Dale. So they had Dale
- 35:43Speaker 1: attached to the storage locker holding it all, and they
- 35:47Speaker 1: had the other guy, shoot, what's his name William William
- 35:52Speaker 1: attached to the evidence and possibly actually being called in
- 35:56Speaker 1: from you know, the robbery slash killing any one who
- 36:00Speaker 1: gets in my way.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, who's kind of already admitted that he was planning
- 36:03Speaker 2: this to someone.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah. So both men look suspicious and both men are
- 36:07Speaker 1: officially linked to it. So this was far enough evidence
- 36:11Speaker 1: for both of them, and they were immediately arrested. Now
- 36:15Speaker 1: thankfully shortly after one of them would talk and give
- 36:18Speaker 1: up a getaway driver by the name of Keith Roberts,
- 36:22Speaker 1: who was also apprehended. With all the evidence collected against
- 36:26Speaker 1: the three men, they were charged with first degree murder
- 36:29Speaker 1: and aggravated robbery. A joint trial would take place on
- 36:34Speaker 1: October fifteenth, nineteen seventy four, in Farrington, Utah. During the trial,
- 36:40Speaker 1: they found that both Dale and William intended to rob
- 36:45Speaker 1: and kill anyone they encountered in the hi Fi store.
- 36:49Speaker 1: In the months leading up to the robbery, they had
- 36:51Speaker 1: been looking for ways to kill people quietly.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Oh geez.
- 36:57Speaker 1: So they had repeatedly watched a film called Magnum Force
- 37:01Speaker 1: from nineteen seventy three.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Okay, because I was just like, how back then would
- 37:04Speaker 2: you I mean, now people will probably like google it,
- 37:07Speaker 2: which is so fucked up.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but back then it was movies. It was Hollywood movies. Okay,
- 37:13Speaker 1: So Magnum Force in the movie depicts a sex worker
- 37:17Speaker 1: being forced to drink draino and as a result, she
- 37:21Speaker 1: immediately drops dead.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Really that's how it just like showed
- 37:26Speaker 2: in the movies. There was no suffering, like just like, well.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I didn't, I don't. I'm not going to claim I've
- 37:31Speaker 1: actually seen the movie myself, but reportedly that's how it
- 37:34Speaker 1: goes down.
- 37:35Speaker 2: So they were like, oh, this is just easy and cheap.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Dreno's cheap, Like, let's just do this exactly.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So that's what they thought, Well, we'll just make them
- 37:41Speaker 1: drink dreno and then it'll be just done and easy. However,
- 37:44Speaker 1: that is clearly not the reality of the situation how
- 37:47Speaker 1: it works.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I mean, even if you just step back to think
- 37:51Speaker 2: about that for a fucking minute. Yeah you would know.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if you're going to be dumb enough
- 37:56Speaker 1: to do something like this, I'm pretty sure you'd be
- 37:58Speaker 1: dumb enough to believe something like that.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That's true. But I'm just like, gosh, I'm not like
- 38:02Speaker 2: the brightest with things, like sometimes call them and send stuff.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I like don't always get right away. And but I
- 38:09Speaker 2: get this, I'm getting So what.
- 38:11Speaker 1: You're saying is even you understand.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, I just burned myself.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you did really bad. Okay, So moving on though.
- 38:21Speaker 1: On November sixteenth, nineteen seventy four, Dale and William were
- 38:24Speaker 1: found guilty on all charges, while Keith Roberts was guilty
- 38:28Speaker 1: of only the robbery, as reportedly, he was only the
- 38:32Speaker 1: getaway driver in the vehicle. Okay, so he was sentenced
- 38:36Speaker 1: to five years to life in jail and would eventually
- 38:39Speaker 1: be parrolled in nineteen eighty seven. The other two, Dale
- 38:44Speaker 1: and William, they were sentenced to death.
- 38:48Speaker 2: So just wait, just to clarify, they're the ones that
- 38:50Speaker 2: were doing like the torture to the victims. Then they
- 38:54Speaker 2: were allegedly those two.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I've got it written down here. I'm going to explain
- 38:58Speaker 1: it all right now, So this is last little bit.
- 39:01Speaker 1: So it's, of course, you know, a win that we
- 39:03Speaker 1: have these three men convicted. However, the official replete police
- 39:07Speaker 1: report states six men, as I already talked about, were involved,
- 39:11Speaker 1: driving two vans, Two remained in the cars, two loaded
- 39:17Speaker 1: the vans with products. Dale and William were the ones
- 39:21Speaker 1: who tortured and killed the victims. Okay, Detectives reported that
- 39:26Speaker 1: quote William was the brains behind the whole ordeal, the
- 39:30Speaker 1: one who organized it. Dale was the enforcer.
- 39:35Speaker 2: M and they are the sick bastards.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Yes, only half the people involved were reportedly caught, but
- 39:42Speaker 1: at the very least it is the two responsible for
- 39:44Speaker 1: the heinous acts against like the victims and everything. They are,
- 39:47Speaker 1: as you put it, the sick bastards. So yeah, that
- 39:52Speaker 1: is the Hi Fi murders.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I'm surprised that the other three names didn't get that
- 39:58Speaker 2: those other people that they held.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Them so am I Actually I was kind of intrigued
- 40:03Speaker 1: on that, and I kind of maybe want to do
- 40:05Speaker 1: a bit more of a deeper dive on how Keith
- 40:08Speaker 1: was his name was brought up and why they didn't
- 40:11Speaker 1: bring up the other names.
- 40:14Speaker 2: So sentenced to death. Yes, are they dead?
- 40:17Speaker 1: They are? Okay, Courtney who was shot in the head
- 40:23Speaker 1: and survived, he unfortunately would later pass away, but he
- 40:29Speaker 1: did outlive those two men.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Okay. Well jeez, that is.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Oh.
- 40:36Speaker 2: It kind of reminds me a little bit of like
- 40:38Speaker 2: the yogurt shop murders case that we did, where it's
- 40:41Speaker 2: just like people.
- 40:43Speaker 1: They burned that place, download didn't they?
- 40:45Speaker 2: I think so, yeah, But I mean in that one,
- 40:48Speaker 2: it doesn't necessarily like a robbery. I'm I don't know.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I mean, I guess this store would have a lot
- 40:54Speaker 2: of like equipment that they could potentially sell for money.
- 40:57Speaker 2: It's just interesting choice doing it for money or I
- 41:02Speaker 2: mean just a lot of the high end equipment in there.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, record players and big speakers and stuff. And it
- 41:08Speaker 1: was a lot more expensive back in the seventies too
- 41:11Speaker 1: for that equipment, right, I guess. Yeah, And like you
- 41:13Speaker 1: look at speakers and stuff. Now you can go to
- 41:15Speaker 1: Walmart and get like a Bluetooth speaker for fifty bucks.
- 41:18Speaker 1: But no, we're talking like big high tech amplifier type
- 41:23Speaker 1: speakers that they're They're not cheap, or at least they
- 41:27Speaker 1: weren't back in their day. And good stuff nowadays still
- 41:30Speaker 1: isn't cheap.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and it's I don't know, I'm just surprised,
- 41:34Speaker 2: like this, this whole case is surprising me, just the
- 41:37Speaker 2: how brutal it is, and like they not have just
- 41:39Speaker 2: gone and broken in and done all the shit later,
- 41:42Speaker 2: you know, Like yeah, yeah, it just seems so unnecessary,
- 41:49Speaker 2: like it does.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Like you say, thoughhy didn't they just wear a mask.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Force these two workers into a freaking closet, start stealing stuff.
- 41:57Speaker 1: More people come along, keep forcing them into a closet.
- 42:00Speaker 1: They don't see your identity, you're wearing a mask, steal
- 42:04Speaker 1: a shit and move on.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because it's one thing to rob something a place,
- 42:09Speaker 2: but then to also be like doing all these murders
- 42:12Speaker 2: and at the same that's next level disgusting.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, completely unnecessary.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Well, I'm not just saying that murdering sometimes is necessary, No,
- 42:23Speaker 1: that's definitely not what I mean. But escalating it like that,
- 42:27Speaker 1: like why you could still have everything that you wanted
- 42:30Speaker 1: and it's just not necessary in any way, shape or form.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I knew very I knew very little about that.
- 42:37Speaker 2: I think the main thing that I had remembered was
- 42:40Speaker 2: the consuming of the dreno.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So what about the pen Do you remember
- 42:45Speaker 1: that one ring a bell?
- 42:47Speaker 2: No? Actually, no, no.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I can't imagine how that would feel because I'm pretty
- 42:51Speaker 1: sure like the pen if you think about it going
- 42:54Speaker 1: in and ear and having to stick out the side
- 42:56Speaker 1: of someone's throat, it would have had to turn sideways
- 42:59Speaker 1: and go on downwards from his ear down to that
- 43:02Speaker 1: same side of his throat.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he probably didn't. I can't imagine that
- 43:06Speaker 2: he could hear out of that ear after.
- 43:08Speaker 1: No, it did go all the way through to the
- 43:10Speaker 1: other side, and it would have gone in a weird angle.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I have no I I'm just hoping that he was
- 43:14Speaker 2: like in shock and at that stage and like maybe
- 43:17Speaker 2: didn't feel all the pain that would have been endured.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Oh man, I can't imagine. Oh yeah, I really hope,
- 43:26Speaker 1: like you say, he didn't feel at all.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Shock would would help brutal that is a brutal one in.
- 43:34Speaker 1: The trial actually, or in the one with the penanies
- 43:37Speaker 1: here he would be a crucial part of the testimony
- 43:40Speaker 1: as well, so he would take stand and he would
- 43:42Speaker 1: speak against them.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Good for him, Yeah, yeah, that's like that's one of
- 43:47Speaker 2: the ultimate I just feel like fuck you moments.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Like ultimate fucking moments for sure. Yeah, when one of
- 43:52Speaker 1: the victims is the one who puts those perpetrators away. Yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 1: fucking love it.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Yeah, ever, that is so good. Yeah, well well done,
- 44:04Speaker 2: thank you. That would have been an interesting one to research,
- 44:07Speaker 2: for sure.
- 44:08Speaker 1: It was took me a little longer than normal, that's
- 44:10Speaker 1: for sure.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Well there's a lot to it. Yeah, like when
- 44:13Speaker 2: there's the more victims and more like assholes, like more assholes.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Well upwards of six assholes in this one. Yeah, so
- 44:19Speaker 1: that's a lot of assholes.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Three of them just like live in their life.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 2: You have to wonder if the four of them knew
- 44:27Speaker 2: to the extent of what was going on downstairs or
- 44:31Speaker 2: like what the plan was. You know, I kind of hoped.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I feel like I want to not think they did,
- 44:35Speaker 2: but I'm going.
- 44:37Speaker 1: To assume at the very least the getaway drivers didn't
- 44:41Speaker 1: because they're out in the vehicle. They have no idea
- 44:43Speaker 1: what inside even looks like. They're just ready in the
- 44:45Speaker 1: vehicle at all times. Yeah, the guys stealing the equipment maybe, but.
- 44:50Speaker 2: They probably, like the getaway drivers, still could have known
- 44:53Speaker 2: the plan was to murder them and stuff though.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Most likely because clearly they shared that plan with who
- 44:58Speaker 1: fucking just co work months ago. Right, yeah, I'm gonna
- 45:01Speaker 1: kill people that night whoever.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I fucking run into that coworker too. You have to
- 45:06Speaker 2: be like, I mean, in no way, shape or form,
- 45:10Speaker 2: is is his fault. But then later, hearing that, you
- 45:13Speaker 2: would be like, oh my gosh, like he was being serious,
- 45:16Speaker 2: like almost I wish I would have reported this or something.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but what do you do in reporting something like that?
- 45:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you would almost feel weird and I don't even
- 45:26Speaker 2: think they might not even take you seriously. Oh my
- 45:28Speaker 2: coworker was just like joking around and like said that
- 45:30Speaker 2: he was going to do this.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and the guy's like, I didn't say that. Yeah,
- 45:33Speaker 1: Now it's your word against his on hypotheticals that have
- 45:37Speaker 1: not come to fruition or anything. Nothing's going to be,
- 45:40Speaker 1: nothing's gonna happen, right.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he really probably couldn't have done anything. No, so
- 45:45Speaker 2: dang yep.
- 45:46Speaker 1: But I mean maybe if he did say something, maybe
- 45:49Speaker 1: they wouldn't have taken it seriously, and like, yeah, nothing's
- 45:51Speaker 1: gonna happen, but the very least maybe it would have
- 45:53Speaker 1: stopped him from doing it.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Scared him off from doing it because now the authorities
- 45:58Speaker 2: not have heard of this.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's so hard to say jeez.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Hmm, okay, so more of the story, like just find
- 46:09Speaker 2: a parking spot downtown.
- 46:11Speaker 1: No, moral of the story is don't be a dick. Yes,
- 46:14Speaker 1: that's always the moral of the story when it comes
- 46:16Speaker 1: to true crust, be a dick.
- 46:17Speaker 2: But then I also just feel so bad for that
- 46:19Speaker 2: one guy that like really didn't need to be there.
- 46:21Speaker 2: I mean, I feel bad for them all, but you
- 46:23Speaker 2: know what.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I mean, all of them. The two employees were just leaving. Yeah,
- 46:28Speaker 1: the friends just popped in to say thanks. The mother
- 46:31Speaker 1: and father were just coming and checking in for their kids.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Like it's all because those guys were just fucking assholes.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't even know what to say.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Just brutal just yeah.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Well, like I said, moral of the story, don't be
- 46:50Speaker 1: a dick. Dick, but you guys can be awesome and
- 46:54Speaker 1: continue listening. Give us support, go give us a rating.

- 47:22Speaker 1: We try and save the rambling afterwards, right, rather than
