- 0:33Speaker 3: of what you think about the sororities. So you guys ready, Yeah, Okay,
- 0:36Speaker 3: We're gonna start with my sorority, Dji, Delta, Gamma, Gamma.
- 0:40Speaker 4: One more girls drunk oh party girls, uh huh house
- 0:46Speaker 4: okay yeah, just crazy crazy gals, Okay, dumb blondes.
- 0:55Speaker 5: How I was gonna say crazy, but Maddie still.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It, Okay, all right. Next one is Appa.
- 1:01Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I would say classy, oh different at my school, really bloody.
- 1:08Speaker 7: I would say Colti.
- 1:10Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Coltie.
- 1:13Speaker 8: I would say, okay, how about Katie? Oh no, I
- 1:15Speaker 8: was like, I'm sorry.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Theto is next one smart? Yeah, definitely like the nerdy,
- 1:23Speaker 2: nerdy girls and like a bad way. Oh wait, hold on, hold.
- 1:29Speaker 6: Different.
- 1:29Speaker 3: At Maryland they were classy.
- 1:31Speaker 9: Yeah, they were kind of nice girls, kind of.
- 1:33Speaker 8: Nice girl like top.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Well, I was data top and grades like, kind of smart,
- 1:39Speaker 1: like not in the party scene as much girls, classy girls.
- 1:44Speaker 8: Marylyn they were kind of nice girls girls. Okay, I
- 1:47Speaker 8: don't remember them there. How about Kyo?
- 1:52Speaker 7: Really sweet? That was the second house I was considering.
- 1:55Speaker 7: I just felt like they were very genuine.
- 1:58Speaker 8: I would say, down to earth, psychotic.
- 2:02Speaker 7: Oh school, So I'm curious what your Have you.
- 2:08Speaker 6: Not heard any Kios stories from our school spill?
- 2:13Speaker 7: I only heard of the story of the man who's
- 2:14Speaker 7: snuck in and stole someone's underwear.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Oh that's creepy.
- 2:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Berkeley Kyo is another.
- 2:19Speaker 8: Story, Calen, what do you think.
- 2:22Speaker 5: I've never heard of the sorority in my life?
- 2:23Speaker 9: Kyo, we didn't have Kyo.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I heard of them there. They were a big sorority,
- 2:27Speaker 3: but we didn't have them at Maryland. So okay, how
- 2:30Speaker 3: about Katie?
- 2:32Speaker 8: Did not? I have no you are Katie Zeta?
- 2:35Speaker 5: You Aretaida?
- 2:37Speaker 6: Oh z ok.
- 2:38Speaker 1: When I think of Katie, I think southern. I feel
- 2:40Speaker 1: like all the Southern schools have Katie and we didn't
- 2:43Speaker 1: have it, but we added a new house on my
- 2:46Speaker 1: senior year and it was Katie.
- 2:48Speaker 8: So it was a brand new sorority.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And I think it just came on because I was
- 2:51Speaker 1: out of Southern school and they seem to be all
- 2:53Speaker 1: over down there.
- 2:54Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 2:56Speaker 6: We don't have Katie West Coast schools, so not sure.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Same. I don't know any Katie this.
- 3:04Speaker 8: That's dgg oh that's me. I don't know what Katie
- 3:07Speaker 8: is Katie.
- 3:09Speaker 3: And they were all really pretty. They were like the
- 3:11Speaker 3: prettiest sorority.
- 3:13Speaker 8: Wow.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and it was big. It was probably the
- 3:14Speaker 3: big authority at Maryland. How about Alpha Pi.
- 3:20Speaker 7: At our school, they're called alphabet What are they bad?
- 3:23Speaker 7: In Sabbatis alphabaties Like, they're just known for just like mogging,
- 3:28Speaker 7: and that's kind of it for what was like to
- 3:30Speaker 7: find logging being super beautiful and that's what they bring
- 3:35Speaker 7: to the table. Their beautiful looks not the worst.
- 3:39Speaker 1: We didn't have a Fie, but my mom was an
- 3:41Speaker 1: Aphie and she's an angel, so angels, I.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Would say boss lady.
- 3:47Speaker 6: At our school, they run like all of the student
- 3:49Speaker 6: government it's kind of cold tea, but they definitely look
- 3:51Speaker 6: good while they do it.
- 3:52Speaker 2: M yeah, more like the popular girls. I feel like
- 3:56Speaker 2: it's always.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Wait, this is so different from my school because I
- 3:58Speaker 5: think they like did not have anyone and they were
- 4:01Speaker 5: very intellectual.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So at Maryland, I kind.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Of feel like they're like kind of forgettable, like you're
- 4:08Speaker 3: super distinct about any Alpha pie's. They were like nice girls.
- 4:11Speaker 3: They were their houses right behind ours, like like we
- 4:14Speaker 3: didn't have I feel like the houses where the girls
- 4:17Speaker 3: were like really pretty or like had like a reputation.
- 4:19Speaker 3: We kind of had like a little rivalry with nobody
- 4:22Speaker 3: had a rivalry with alphabe. They were just kind of
- 4:25Speaker 3: in descript, non descript.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I feel like Alpha Pye is a West Coast thing
- 4:30Speaker 1: because I hear of it a lot in California schools,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and then also like Arizona schools or Western school I
- 4:38Speaker 1: do feel like a lot of the stereotypes are regional,
- 4:40Speaker 1: which is interesting schools, but its regional to like the
- 4:46Speaker 1: South or the West Coast or the East Coast.
- 4:48Speaker 8: It's yeah, I totally agree.
- 4:51Speaker 9: Okay, how about Pi Pi.
- 4:54Speaker 7: Pi Pi also really nice girls? Just like I'm honestly
- 5:00Speaker 7: very well rounded, very kind very beautiful, very smart, also
- 5:04Speaker 7: beautiful house.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, at my.
- 5:08Speaker 1: School, a clique just did not want to associate with
- 5:12Speaker 1: anyone else, not in like an introverted way, but more
- 5:16Speaker 1: so in a like oh you're not a fu, like
- 5:18Speaker 1: you're not cool enough to associate very clique.
- 5:23Speaker 6: I would say, the funny girls at our school, they're
- 5:25Speaker 6: very much like the funny girls everyone likes.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I was gonna say, similar to you, Lauren, like kind
- 5:30Speaker 2: of like big headed, they kind of like think very
- 5:33Speaker 2: highly of themselves.
- 5:35Speaker 8: Yeah, and maybe competitive too.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I think there's too many sororities.
- 5:39Speaker 9: I thought they were really fine.
- 5:43Speaker 3: You're really sororities. I could tell Caleb love this already life,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I could tell. I don't think we had pi FI.
- 5:51Speaker 3: So how about Trydell.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Tried Dell is always just like bold personality, fun outgoing
- 5:58Speaker 1: girls in my.
- 6:00Speaker 7: Mm hmm we have Tridel Oh god, Oh no, I
- 6:04Speaker 7: didn't even know we had one. No, I think it
- 6:09Speaker 7: was quite Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:11Speaker 6: They're they're well like West Coast schools tried out. It's
- 6:15Speaker 6: not very prominent, so I'd say it's like mid tier.
- 6:18Speaker 6: I don't think I've ever really talked to anyone that
- 6:20Speaker 6: was in tried out, not because I didn't want to,
- 6:23Speaker 6: but maybe because I haven't seen them around. But that
- 6:25Speaker 6: says anything in and of itself.
- 6:27Speaker 2: So ours, like our school is literally the only West
- 6:31Speaker 2: Coast school where triedaut is actually a really good sorority.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I was in tried out, but also it was a
- 6:38Speaker 2: good sorority. So I'm a little bit biased.
- 6:41Speaker 8: But we were Yeah, I'm tried out.
- 6:44Speaker 2: We were very I would say, we're very into our
- 6:46Speaker 2: philanthropy because it's Saint Jude, so it's good we do.
- 6:49Speaker 2: We do all of like that's our main, huge thing. So, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 2: did you guys have tried out?
- 6:55Speaker 5: I said last night we had tried out, but it
- 6:56Speaker 5: was tri sick, so no, we didn't. But I almost
- 6:59Speaker 5: went to al Bama, and I think their Tri Sigma
- 7:01Speaker 5: was really good.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It was a good, good sorty.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was like when I wanted to rest.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Try tried out at Maryland was a huge sorty and
- 7:07Speaker 3: they were so I grew. I was in college in
- 7:10Speaker 3: the eighties and it was super preppy, like they were
- 7:12Speaker 3: like really nice girls. They dressed really nice, they were
- 7:15Speaker 3: nice to everybody, like a night. My brother was impact
- 7:17Speaker 3: engaged to try it out.
- 7:18Speaker 2: For a while.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Yeah, right after college. So I like, try it outs, Zeta,
- 7:27Speaker 3: I plead the.
- 7:28Speaker 8: Fed Yeah, we have one. That's all I know.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Where you know that you have to go, but you're
- 7:39Speaker 7: just waiting for that round to be over and then
- 7:41Speaker 7: you drop it.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Oh you had to brush it, no matter, but you
- 7:45Speaker 3: had to show up brutal.
- 7:48Speaker 6: I was lucky enough to make it to like the
- 7:49Speaker 6: third round there, so I was pretty proud.
- 7:51Speaker 8: Thank you, thank you.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Wow.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Literally the only thing that comes into my mind, or
- 7:57Speaker 1: at least the first thing when someone says Zeta is
- 7:59Speaker 1: lamb or because at our school, they all called themselves slammers.
- 8:04Speaker 4: What is a lammer?
- 8:05Speaker 8: Slammers?
- 8:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, L A N E R.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Because they would say slam like zata love and mine,
- 8:13Speaker 1: that's what it stands for. And so they called themselves
- 8:16Speaker 1: slammers and they would go around. They'd be like, slammers, zam,
- 8:19Speaker 1: where's all as lambers at?
- 8:21Speaker 8: And it was just like a bit and you.
- 8:23Speaker 9: Don't know them.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Only the basket crowned.
- 8:26Speaker 8: Obviously. They have so many sayings, which is fun if
- 8:30Speaker 8: you're in it, but when you're on the outside of it,
- 8:32Speaker 8: I was like, what's going on here?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't have Zata at my school, but I
- 8:36Speaker 2: have two friends that were in Zada at a different school,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and they're so cute and very smart, so I think, yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 2: it just differs.
- 8:44Speaker 8: It differs. Yeah, Kaitlin, did you guys call you? I know,
- 8:48Speaker 8: did you put yourself a lammer or No?
- 8:50Speaker 5: I only lasted one semester and I got kicked out.
- 8:54Speaker 3: But why didn't you just tell us that kicked out story? Yeah?
- 8:59Speaker 5: Yeah, so they kicked me out and I didn't. Yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 5: I hated it. It was my first fourth choice. I
- 9:04Speaker 5: just kept getting dropped because I was promiscuous and hooking
- 9:10Speaker 5: up with men from other.
- 9:13Speaker 3: The president of the sororities boyfriends. Yeah, and never that
- 9:16Speaker 3: never works.
- 9:18Speaker 5: I got my fourth choice and it's not my favorite,
- 9:21Speaker 5: and you didn't care about it.
- 9:23Speaker 3: We didn't have Zeta, So I'm out on that one. Okay.
- 9:25Speaker 7: Sigma Kappla, Oh I love ESK. They have a very
- 9:30Speaker 7: very beautiful house at our school, really really kind girls.
- 9:34Speaker 7: One of my best friends from high school is in
- 9:36Speaker 7: that house. I've always just had really like very warm impressions,
- 9:39Speaker 7: Like you walk away from a conversation with an SK
- 9:41Speaker 7: and it's like, oh, she's a sweetheart.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like our tried ELTs.
- 9:45Speaker 8: Yeah, agree, sweethearts. Both my sisters, my real sisters are
- 9:49Speaker 8: as case. Oh, I feel like I don't really know much.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I don't have anything to say. They were kind of
- 9:58Speaker 2: like our rival sorority at my school, so it was
- 10:01Speaker 2: like kind of the two of us butting heads. So
- 10:05Speaker 2: I don't know, I would say, uh, yeah, I know,
- 10:12Speaker 2: like they weren't always the nicest, but maybe but we
- 10:15Speaker 2: just didn't get good impressions.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Of them because maybe because they were your rival sorority.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just kind of like, oh, I feel
- 10:22Speaker 2: like you're like.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I feel like everybody's rival sorority is kind of like them,
- 10:26Speaker 3: and you just don't want to face it.
- 10:28Speaker 8: Yeah, totally.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe it's like, yeah, it's odd, how about you
- 10:33Speaker 3: non try me? You didn't have a singma company? No,
- 10:35Speaker 3: I think we did, but I don't remember. But again, guys,
- 10:39Speaker 3: it was in the eighties, so you gotta give me
- 10:41Speaker 3: a break on that one.
- 10:42Speaker 9: Sorry, we'll give you a pass.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Bye, will.
- 11:00Speaker 7: My sisters will find you. And she went to Purdue,
- 11:04Speaker 7: which I think isn't a huge sorority school, but they
- 11:07Speaker 7: had a really good, wonderful sorority very academic they have
- 11:11Speaker 7: the highest on a roll every single I think, like
- 11:13Speaker 7: highest percentage of students with a four point zero in
- 11:16Speaker 7: their house. Well and smart girls very like work hard,
- 11:20Speaker 7: play hard.
- 11:22Speaker 1: At my school, it was just an eclectic bunch. It
- 11:25Speaker 1: was just kind of the most random assortment of people,
- 11:29Speaker 1: all nice girls, but it was kind of a sorority
- 11:32Speaker 1: that I looked at and I was like, how is
- 11:34Speaker 1: this cohesive?
- 11:35Speaker 8: Like how is this a friend group? Like this is
- 11:36Speaker 8: just so interesting? How'd you all end up in this house?
- 11:39Speaker 1: Because I'd say they were all like the least similar
- 11:41Speaker 1: to each other, whereas in many sororities, I think everyone's
- 11:44Speaker 1: very similar copy and paste.
- 11:46Speaker 8: But they were an eclectic group of girls, all very nice.
- 11:50Speaker 8: I feel like just Southern Bells.
- 11:51Speaker 6: We don't have it as far as I know on
- 11:53Speaker 6: the on the West coast, but definitely from what I know,
- 11:56Speaker 6: Southern bell.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know any so I can't
- 12:01Speaker 2: I can't sayin.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Okay, I have a fine news story that was my
- 12:06Speaker 5: second choice. My roommate was a five MEW. She committed
- 12:09Speaker 5: check fraud and tried to steal ten thousand dollars from
- 12:11Speaker 5: my mom.
- 12:15Speaker 8: It's crazy.
- 12:16Speaker 5: During finals week, So the Wi Fi router was in
- 12:20Speaker 5: my room and she breaks into my room changes the
- 12:23Speaker 5: Wi Fi passwords so I can't study during finals week.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Like, no, that.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Is my perception of a five mule. That is crazy, horrible,
- 12:31Speaker 5: and my like the FBI. I think it was nine thousand,
- 12:35Speaker 5: nine hundred dollars because the FBI won't get involved unless
- 12:38Speaker 5: it's ten thousand dollars, So it was.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It was pretty crazy that she was an evil person.
- 12:44Speaker 8: She was crazy.
- 12:45Speaker 9: Did she get kicked out of the school?
- 12:46Speaker 8: God?
- 12:46Speaker 5: No, No, she was totally fine. And then I like
- 12:49Speaker 5: went on a date. We got Ben and Jerry's I'm
- 12:51Speaker 5: a broke college student. That's expensive. Yeah, And it's in
- 12:55Speaker 5: the freezer and I'm like, where's my Ben and Jerry
- 12:57Speaker 5: She's sitting on the couch eating it, and she goes,
- 12:58Speaker 5: I don't know what you're talking about. I'm like, I'm
- 13:00Speaker 5: like you, that's all I think of a five.
- 13:05Speaker 3: You got rid of her as a roommate, right, Yes, Okay,
- 13:08Speaker 3: that's crazy.
- 13:09Speaker 7: As much as I think they're academic, I do think
- 13:11Speaker 7: the fraud reputation might be uh run running a couple
- 13:16Speaker 7: of houses, because I've also heard a story of the
- 13:19Speaker 7: treasure of my sisters. Five you stealing two hundred thousand
- 13:22Speaker 7: dollars from the national honors of her sorority. Another another
- 13:29Speaker 7: you wrote herself wrote herself her bought her boyfriend in
- 13:34Speaker 7: f one fifty truck. Yeah, and I think used it
- 13:39Speaker 7: for like her own personal services, like getting her hair done,
- 13:42Speaker 7: getting her nails done. Like the entire time. She was
- 13:44Speaker 7: one of like on exec and obviously ended up getting
- 13:49Speaker 7: caught and it's yeah, it's a felony. So she's actually
- 13:55Speaker 7: a felon.
- 13:55Speaker 3: So okay, that's crazy. Okay, how about Gammify?
- 14:03Speaker 9: We didn't have it.
- 14:05Speaker 8: So down to earth. I love the gamifies. One of
- 14:08Speaker 8: my best friends is to gamify And just like.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Chill girls, CEC, you want to take this one?
- 14:16Speaker 6: I would say this is probably the smallest and most
- 14:22Speaker 6: least desirable house at the school that we go to.
- 14:25Speaker 3: No hate, but they are kind of a.
- 14:29Speaker 6: Yik yak meme, and I feel bad for them because
- 14:31Speaker 6: they don't really deserve it, but they're they're I've never
- 14:34Speaker 6: had a bad.
- 14:34Speaker 8: Interaction, but yeah, Joan, do you know ya yak? What's that?
- 14:37Speaker 8: Do you know what yak yak is?
- 14:39Speaker 7: No?
- 14:39Speaker 1: I have no idea, So it's this app where you
- 14:41Speaker 1: can anonymously post things about your college and everybody reads it,
- 14:46Speaker 1: and so people will tell crazy stories and a lot
- 14:49Speaker 1: of times it's all about Greek light and so anonymously
- 14:52Speaker 1: people will like clown on other sureties or just like
- 14:57Speaker 1: telp insane spread rumor all the things.
- 15:00Speaker 3: And are they usually true or no?
- 15:02Speaker 9: Uh?
- 15:04Speaker 1: I would say they usually dramatic size because.
- 15:08Speaker 3: It has an element of truth, but it's like.
- 15:11Speaker 8: Totally blown up. But anyways, that's what CC was saying.
- 15:14Speaker 1: They're kind of a joke on I guess, oh.
- 15:20Speaker 9: Wake up girl.
- 15:23Speaker 2: We actually didn't have that already under school, so I'm
- 15:25Speaker 2: not entirely sure. I mean it was kind of a
- 15:30Speaker 2: small We only had like six or ornies made.
- 15:32Speaker 3: So how about Gamma Phi?
- 15:34Speaker 8: Did you have a Kaila? No?
- 15:35Speaker 3: No, we didn't have Gammafi, but we did we The
- 15:38Speaker 3: next one is Alpha Kaya Mega and that came right
- 15:40Speaker 3: when I was leaving, so I don't know anything about it,
- 15:42Speaker 3: but I did to Big Storty.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Now.
- 15:44Speaker 7: Honestly, no strong impressions. I don't actually know anybody in
- 15:49Speaker 7: Akia at my school, but I do remember they had
- 15:52Speaker 7: a really nice house.
- 15:53Speaker 8: Kind of same here. No strong impression. I didn't really
- 15:56Speaker 8: know any of them.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Didn't know much.
- 15:57Speaker 8: Yeah, unremarkable.
- 16:05Speaker 2: We also didn't have them at my school.
- 16:07Speaker 9: Yeah, I did have.
- 16:09Speaker 8: Them at mine.
- 16:09Speaker 5: I think they were like all destined to be senators
- 16:12Speaker 5: and so they were just doing this to be to
- 16:14Speaker 5: like add to their resume, you know, is that right?
- 16:16Speaker 9: Yeah, destined to be senators.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I love that.
- 16:19Speaker 8: I want to be. That's already I know me, so.
- 16:22Speaker 3: They wouldn't have had me. But okay, okay, last one, guys,
- 16:26Speaker 3: I can't believe that is a long list. First of all,
- 16:28Speaker 3: don't a zada.
- 16:30Speaker 7: No, I have no idea.
- 16:31Speaker 3: No, I don't either.
- 16:33Speaker 8: We didn't have it either.
- 16:35Speaker 7: We didn't have it.
- 16:36Speaker 8: But I'm assuming it's a Southern thing. I know a
- 16:39Speaker 8: lot of girls that I know. They go to Arizona schools.
- 16:42Speaker 1: That's like a big deal house that's like tall for
- 16:44Speaker 1: the top house to get into.
- 16:46Speaker 8: But anywhere else, I don't think I've ever heard of it.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yeah, same, Lauren like it. They didn't have it at
- 16:51Speaker 2: our school, but some West Coast schools like it's huge.
- 16:54Speaker 8: So nothing for me.
- 16:56Speaker 9: Yeah, no, you don't have anither.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Okay, So how accurate do you think the stereotypes are.
- 17:02Speaker 7: I think it's important. Yeah, I think the regional like
- 17:05Speaker 7: focus is important because it definitely changes depending on like
- 17:09Speaker 7: if you're on the West coast, East coast, Midwest, there's
- 17:12Speaker 7: that like very strong Southern element to sorority life that
- 17:15Speaker 7: just doesn't exist or carry over when you live on
- 17:17Speaker 7: the West coast. But that's definitely important to consider, especially
- 17:21Speaker 7: if you're wanting to join a sorority. Don't always follow
- 17:23Speaker 7: the reputations of someone from a school that might not
- 17:27Speaker 7: be in the same state you're going to.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Very true, I would agree with that one hundred percent.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I think region plays a huge role in it, and
- 17:34Speaker 1: like you can't.
- 17:35Speaker 8: Believe the stereotypes because it just varies so much school
- 17:38Speaker 8: by school, region by region.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I also think the size of the sorority matters a lot,
- 17:43Speaker 1: because it's so hard to stereotype a pledge class of
- 17:47Speaker 1: one hundred girls versus a sorority that only has thirty,
- 17:51Speaker 1: And so it really depends on like the numbers as well,
- 17:54Speaker 1: because there can be so many girls in a sorority.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It could be a really big house and it's like
- 17:58Speaker 1: they're the smart house, but like there's always gonna be
- 18:00Speaker 1: girls who are struggling with third grades or they're the
- 18:03Speaker 1: cool girls, and there's always gonna be girls that are
- 18:05Speaker 1: like maybe not as nice or whatever. So I don't know,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I feel like it's really hard to stereotype, and I
- 18:13Speaker 1: feel like they can never be truly accurate.
- 18:17Speaker 6: And even like every recruitment cycle, I feel like if
- 18:20Speaker 6: you get a one off bad PC or something happens,
- 18:24Speaker 6: like there's always weird flukes in primary recruitment, and so
- 18:27Speaker 6: I feel like, even if you do know the reputations
- 18:31Speaker 6: of a sorority in your school, it can change at
- 18:34Speaker 6: literally the drop of a hat based off of all
- 18:37Speaker 6: of the behavior of the new PC.
- 18:39Speaker 8: That's a good point.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It's interesting too, like I mean, depending on how big
- 18:45Speaker 2: your school was, kind of like Lauren Numer saying, just
- 18:47Speaker 2: like you can't really judge like one PC that has
- 18:50Speaker 2: one hundred versus like thirty girls.
- 18:53Speaker 8: But it really is.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Interesting to think about like how these different schools got
- 18:57Speaker 2: these different stereotypes for these sororities, Like why is they
- 19:01Speaker 2: to different at my school versus like your guys is school.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So it is kind of weird to think about that,
- 19:07Speaker 2: like the origin of each like sorority at the school.
- 19:10Speaker 2: So yeah, I don't know. Again, it's yeah, you can't
- 19:13Speaker 2: really follow stereotypes because it's different everywhere.
- 19:16Speaker 3: But what do you think?
- 19:17Speaker 5: I wonder how much it's going to change because gen
- 19:19Speaker 5: Z values like such different things than we do.
- 19:23Speaker 2: So like the like.
- 19:25Speaker 8: Quote unquote.
- 19:27Speaker 5: Uncool or whatever you want to call it, like sorority,
- 19:30Speaker 5: I think it's going to be the coolest sorority and
- 19:32Speaker 5: like the one that everyone wants to be. Like, I
- 19:34Speaker 5: think Millennials and gen Z just have such a different
- 19:36Speaker 5: perspective or they're not rushing period. But I'm interested to
- 19:39Speaker 5: see how it shifts.
- 19:41Speaker 3: So I kind of feel the same way that you do.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I feel like they eve all over time. So like
- 19:45Speaker 3: I was a Delta Gamma at Maryland and like it
- 19:48Speaker 3: was a like kind of dumbl one sorority and I
- 19:51Speaker 3: just went back. They invited me back to do like
- 19:53Speaker 3: a little presentation, like kind of a little speech for
- 19:56Speaker 3: Founder's Day, And they were the smartest girls they all.
- 19:59Speaker 8: They had the that's GP.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I only got into that sorority. I wasn't like nearly
- 20:03Speaker 3: cool enough to be an authorty, but I had a
- 20:05Speaker 3: good GPA and they were on academic probation when I
- 20:07Speaker 3: was there and now, like they're the smartest a sorority
- 20:10Speaker 3: on the campus. So they evolve over time a lot.
- 20:12Speaker 3: So I think, you know, you might be in an
- 20:15Speaker 3: evolution period, and I kind of feel like you should
- 20:18Speaker 3: really give extroities a chance, Like you might find your
- 20:22Speaker 3: posse in a sorority that you wouldn't think that may
- 20:25Speaker 3: have been great for you.
- 20:26Speaker 8: I absolutely agree.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I really think it's so important to keep an
- 20:29Speaker 1: open mind and honestly to like take in the least
- 20:34Speaker 1: amount of noise about sororities that you can, especially before RASH,
- 20:38Speaker 1: because it just it can influence you so easily away
- 20:42Speaker 1: from a group of girls.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I mean, it would have been great for you.
- 20:44Speaker 8: It sounds cheesy, but like they could be your home,
- 20:47Speaker 8: you know. I know you never know.
- 20:49Speaker 3: I preference data, and I there's a part of me
- 20:51Speaker 3: that everyone small thinks maybe that would have been a
- 20:53Speaker 3: better match for me. I loved my DG experience, but
- 20:56Speaker 3: I feel like THETA may have been like girls that
- 20:58Speaker 3: were a little more like me.
- 20:59Speaker 8: I feel like a lot of people have similar experiences.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Aren't as willing to admit that because I want to
- 21:05Speaker 1: just die hard for their sorority. But there's always that
- 21:08Speaker 1: what if when you're talking about two houses, like maybe
- 21:11Speaker 1: a preference one you get another, what could have been?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Or even if you did preference to your sorority, it's like,
- 21:16Speaker 1: what would have happened if they dropped me and I
- 21:18Speaker 1: got my second choice?
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm interesting to think about it and that it
- 21:21Speaker 3: was my first choice. But I look back and like
- 21:23Speaker 3: I wanted to be like popular, and I was a
- 21:26Speaker 3: kind of nerdy, So I went for the house that
- 21:29Speaker 3: maybe the girls were more popular, and I probably would
- 21:31Speaker 3: have fit in better with the girls that were like
- 21:33Speaker 3: a little less popular and little more like me. Okay,
- 21:49Speaker 3: So I think that we should kind of wrap this up,
- 21:51Speaker 3: and I think, like, going out of this, I'd love
- 21:53Speaker 3: that we have like some good perspectives. So what kind
- 21:55Speaker 3: of advice would you give girls going into rush?
- 22:00Speaker 7: To follow on Lauren's note, I would say, when you're
- 22:02Speaker 7: going into it for freshmen at least, I've heard a
- 22:06Speaker 7: lot of girls have really positive experiences if they're rushing,
- 22:10Speaker 7: like and they have roommates, to not share what houses
- 22:13Speaker 7: they are liking throughout the process, because it can sway
- 22:16Speaker 7: your opinion and kind of lead you astray, and it
- 22:19Speaker 7: might also make you feel like you need to join
- 22:21Speaker 7: the house with the two girls who already know at
- 22:22Speaker 7: school rather than taking the leap and joining a house
- 22:25Speaker 7: that might be something that's a better fit for you
- 22:28Speaker 7: than your friends. And then my other advice I think
- 22:31Speaker 7: would be just to keep a really open, positive opinion
- 22:35Speaker 7: and be excited to talk to people, be eager to
- 22:39Speaker 7: meet new friends, and to kind of like work on
- 22:42Speaker 7: your elevator pitch a bit, but just keep it natural.
- 22:45Speaker 7: It doesn't need to feel like it's an interview, but
- 22:48Speaker 7: it is an opportunity to learn a lot about yourself.
- 22:52Speaker 6: I would say the best advice that I ever got
- 22:54Speaker 6: and gave later on after going through recruitment is to
- 22:59Speaker 6: watch how the girls are interacting with each other when
- 23:02Speaker 6: you're not watching, Like watch how they interact with each
- 23:06Speaker 6: other when they're sitting on the ground and they're singing
- 23:08Speaker 6: or they're sitting in the line, Like do they genuinely look.
- 23:10Speaker 8: Like they like each other?
- 23:12Speaker 6: I feel like that's a huge thing and that you
- 23:13Speaker 6: can really read through like how performative recruitment can be
- 23:17Speaker 6: if you're really paying attention. So that's a huge thing.
- 23:19Speaker 6: And then another thing is is on pref night, like
- 23:22Speaker 6: look around in the party that you're in, Like those
- 23:25Speaker 6: girls would be your pledge class. So if you look
- 23:27Speaker 6: around and you like the girls, and I mean you
- 23:30Speaker 6: like what you see, then maybe that's a sign that
- 23:32Speaker 6: that could be for you. But if you're looking around
- 23:35Speaker 6: and you know some of the girls and maybe they're
- 23:36Speaker 6: not your cup of tea, and you're between two houses
- 23:39Speaker 6: that you that you love, maybe that's a sign that
- 23:41Speaker 6: maybe you should choose the house where you can see
- 23:43Speaker 6: yourself and the PCs more what you're into.
- 23:47Speaker 2: M Yeah, and I think too, like if you're going
- 23:51Speaker 2: to a smaller school where maybe there's only like six
- 23:55Speaker 2: sororities like I went to, I feel like I've kind
- 23:59Speaker 2: of noticed, like while I was answering these questions, the
- 24:01Speaker 2: stereotypes are maybe even like like they're even more evident
- 24:08Speaker 2: because it's like, well, this sorority is that, and this
- 24:10Speaker 2: already is that, and there's really no in between. So
- 24:13Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe if you go to a smaller school,
- 24:15Speaker 2: like trying to break those norms and being like well,
- 24:19Speaker 2: once arority doesn't have to be like top hous er,
- 24:21Speaker 2: once already doesn't have to be you know, just smart
- 24:24Speaker 2: and stuff like that, and just kind of really getting
- 24:26Speaker 2: to know the girls versus the thing that really just
- 24:29Speaker 2: dictates them to the rest of the school. Caitlin, I
- 24:34Speaker 2: would say, like, let go of the like.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Notions of each sorority and like whoever it's like the
- 24:41Speaker 5: cool sorority, the second tier soroty, whatever it is, like
- 24:43Speaker 5: the rankings of it all, and just like whoever you
- 24:46Speaker 5: connect with, because it's gonna make like the most of
- 24:48Speaker 5: your college experience.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like it's a two
- 24:51Speaker 3: way street. Like I felt when like when I was rushing,
- 24:54Speaker 3: like I needed to impress them and I needed to
- 24:56Speaker 3: show my best self, and I didn't do a really
- 24:58Speaker 3: good job probably of interviewing them the same way that
- 25:00Speaker 3: they were kind of looking at me.
- 25:02Speaker 8: So to realize it's a two way street.
- 25:05Speaker 3: To make sure you're asking important questions about like this
- 25:08Speaker 3: is a really loud buss, sorry if you're hearing all
- 25:11Speaker 3: that background noise, So like interview them, like make sure
- 25:14Speaker 3: that I was I needed to study. I was a
- 25:16Speaker 3: computer science major. Make sure that they make like make
- 25:19Speaker 3: sure that you have time to study. And it's not
- 25:21Speaker 3: all about partying or if you like want to be
- 25:24Speaker 3: a partier, then that's the right authority, So I think
- 25:28Speaker 3: that you have to it's a two way street. You
- 25:29Speaker 3: have to remember that. I kind of learned that a
- 25:31Speaker 3: little bit on Bachelor two, Like it's a two ay street.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I wanted to like make all the men like me,
- 25:35Speaker 3: but then I like I needed to learn about them.
- 25:38Speaker 3: What do you guys think?
- 25:39Speaker 8: Power agree?
