- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Patriots have their premiere tonight because definitely an
- 0:17Speaker 1: sid fact. Yes, I'm surprised. Well, I'm going to be nice.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm trying. I'm trying to be different, trying to be different,
- 0:23Speaker 1: not not my regular content or his self, you know what,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Believe it or not? I think bledsoe he didn't get cut. Well, yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 1: he got cut and put on the po He did
- 0:31Speaker 1: not get cut. Oh he's on the roster. Who am
- 0:33Speaker 1: I thinking of? I don't know what was his name?
- 0:37Speaker 1: What was his name? Oh? Come on, he was in
- 0:41Speaker 1: the locker room earlier, so I don't know. I don't
- 0:43Speaker 1: know if he was traded. But did he have a
- 0:45Speaker 1: big hefty bag Pitt West, Virginia tonight? Oh yeah, it's
- 0:50Speaker 1: that good. It's that good. You astounished me. How you
- 0:52Speaker 1: only know one thing? Had he been working out or anything?
- 0:55Speaker 1: Or now he had the button up on? So I
- 0:57Speaker 1: unless that's what he works out and the time he
- 1:00Speaker 1: has the full spandex workout that for him that only
- 1:06Speaker 1: Fred can talk about. Robert gra This is Patriots Unfiltered,
- 1:11Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:17Speaker 1: is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium, and well it's here
- 1:23Speaker 1: a lot going on again, it's just last Tuesday. It's here.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Romstein's right now. Of course, I'm talking about the New
- 1:30Speaker 1: England Patriots season opener in Miami against the Dolphins. Can't wait.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm excited. I'm excited. You know why, kickoff is what
- 1:40Speaker 1: less than twenty four hours away? Right, I'm excited, not leaving,
- 1:44Speaker 1: you know. I'm always excited for the first game, you know, regardless,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but there's to me, there's an extra layer of excitement
- 1:50Speaker 1: because I don't know what the f is gonna happen.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I really don't know. I have no idea. They could
- 1:56Speaker 1: run away with it, they could get blown out, it
- 1:58Speaker 1: could be a tight loss win. I really don't know.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I don't know either, And I mean it's I really
- 2:05Speaker 1: like going back. I went back to that last Miami
- 2:07Speaker 1: game last year, which I now realized why I blocked
- 2:10Speaker 1: it out. I didn't remember anything of it. But the
- 2:11Speaker 1: Patriots got pretty thoroughly handled down there. Um, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 1: the same thing as the year before. I like just
- 2:17Speaker 1: having like, you just played these guys. You just went
- 2:19Speaker 1: down there and had kind of a poor performance technically
- 2:22Speaker 1: two games ago. So you know what, what are they
- 2:24Speaker 1: going to have down there? What kind of surprises are
- 2:26Speaker 1: both teams gonna unleash? And it's week one. It's it's exciting.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm excited for Thursday night just to get going see
- 2:31Speaker 1: Buffalo in the Rams. I mean what a game that is? Oh,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you'll watch that is that it's on, right, you'll watch
- 2:35Speaker 1: that probably mid second floor you'll tap out out Buffalo
- 2:40Speaker 1: Buffalo is playing if they'll play it was like the
- 2:42Speaker 1: Rams and Tampa. Yeah out but the Rams Cowboys, he
- 2:46Speaker 1: wouldn't be watching. That's a good opener. How you're gonna
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'll just be watching it like gritting my teeth, being
- 2:51Speaker 1: like it's reading some stuff in Pete King's uh Monday
- 2:56Speaker 1: Monday Morning piece. Rams have quite the daunting slate. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 1: like ten playoff teams from last year. It happens when
- 3:04Speaker 1: you come in first and acres back to That was
- 3:07Speaker 1: kind of what they were missing him for most of
- 3:08Speaker 1: the year last year. Right, we only played a couple
- 3:10Speaker 1: of games and yeah, almost cost him the playoff game
- 3:12Speaker 1: against Tampa, big part of what they do. Yeah, So
- 3:16Speaker 1: Deuce is here, Paul's here, I'm here, Matt's in the booth,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Alex is on her way down to Miami. She's going
- 3:24Speaker 1: to be covering practice in Bill Belichick and all that
- 3:28Speaker 1: during the week. So look for her stuff on Patriots
- 3:30Speaker 1: dot com. I don't know where to marry. Yeah, she's
- 3:33Speaker 1: u on the pup list at the moment. Yeah, she'll
- 3:36Speaker 1: injure injury report today. Okay, doubtful for the show, my grain.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I think she's gonna be all right, don't forget. Well,
- 3:42Speaker 1: we will have a show tomorrow because we are in
- 3:45Speaker 1: regular season mode, and right at some point tomorrow afternoon,
- 3:50Speaker 1: after we're off the year, we'll get an injury report. Yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and we know how much Bill Belichick first of the years. Well,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and that's really interesting to see what they say about
- 3:57Speaker 1: Time Montgomery. Bill Belichick asked this morning twice snout only
- 4:00Speaker 1: on on Wei but also with the Patriots press conference,
- 4:04Speaker 1: that is everybody going to travel? And it sounded like yes,
- 4:07Speaker 1: on Time everybody is traveling. Yeah, of course they are.
- 4:11Speaker 1: How are you gonna get treatment if you don't travel? Well,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I guess, but you know, usually everybody's there. I know
- 4:16Speaker 1: there's no yet they're leaving now. Well, I suppose you
- 4:19Speaker 1: could send him up to TV twelve, but um not.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But yeah, I think astually, if the team travels on Saturday,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you get downgrades for people who didn't travel. The traveling
- 4:31Speaker 1: team's required to release that info, but you don't have
- 4:34Speaker 1: to if if no, if everyone's traveling, you don't have
- 4:37Speaker 1: to say who's herd? Yeah, correct. I do think there's
- 4:40Speaker 1: a chance that we'll find out early on time Montgomery.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But I think Isaiah Win will play. Yeah, I think
- 4:46Speaker 1: so too. I think he'll play. And don't ask me
- 4:48Speaker 1: why I have deemed his injuries left. Just the fact
- 4:51Speaker 1: that he's been in out in I think it's a
- 4:54Speaker 1: nagging problem. You can't make time Montgomery. We haven't seen
- 4:58Speaker 1: him the practice field since now. Maybe be proven incorrect
- 5:01Speaker 1: in tomorrow he'll be out at the practice field when
- 5:03Speaker 1: they I think they're practicing at like Palm Beach Atlantic
- 5:06Speaker 1: or something like that. Yeah, they're out in must Palm Beach,
- 5:09Speaker 1: so maybe well we'll get some news. I am sort
- 5:12Speaker 1: of operating under the Fred Kersh assumption that anything that
- 5:16Speaker 1: happens with Ty Montgomery right now in the in the
- 5:19Speaker 1: immediate is gravy. Yeah, I'm not expecting him to play
- 5:22Speaker 1: at least for the first week or two. Yeah, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: if and if he doesn't though, you know, did you
- 5:27Speaker 1: go to JJ Taylor? Are you ready to put Pierre
- 5:29Speaker 1: Strong out there? Or do you just roll with with
- 5:31Speaker 1: Stevenson and Harris? And I think I think right now,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you go with Taylor, you know, to see give him
- 5:36Speaker 1: a chance. Yeah, at least a couple of touches. Yep,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I think it would be Taylor. Yeah. Yeah. So it's
- 5:43Speaker 1: like I said, I don't know, I don't know what
- 5:45Speaker 1: I've been looking at the summer and I have even
- 5:49Speaker 1: a less idea of what I'm about to see. It's
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's all gonna be new to me. Yeah, that's and
- 5:56Speaker 1: that's like I'm trying to find you know, how bad
- 6:00Speaker 1: was it really this summer? Like, you know, it's just
- 6:02Speaker 1: it's so hard to know. How many times did you
- 6:04Speaker 1: come out of camp feeling one way and then oh yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 1: all everything we was confirmed by the first few It's
- 6:10Speaker 1: hard to tell. But I'm just in a whole different
- 6:13Speaker 1: place because I've never been I've never been as sort
- 6:17Speaker 1: of unsure or shaken by what I've seen in the
- 6:21Speaker 1: summer like I have. This year shook. Now, I would say,
- 6:25Speaker 1: let's eliminate the COVID year because that was so atypical.
- 6:28Speaker 1: No preseason games, No, you know that was not But
- 6:32Speaker 1: all of the other camps last year included, I don't
- 6:36Speaker 1: think I've ever been so unsure about what exactly they're
- 6:39Speaker 1: going to try to do, what they want to try
- 6:41Speaker 1: to do. Who's good, who's maybe they need to upgrade?
- 6:45Speaker 1: I it's it has been a very shaky because even
- 6:51Speaker 1: last year, you know, you went in with a supposed
- 6:53Speaker 1: quarterback competition. You had Mac and you had Cam Newton,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and you know there were times where they both look bad,
- 7:02Speaker 1: one would look good one of the but Mac did
- 7:04Speaker 1: enough to just win the job. But you weren't dealing
- 7:07Speaker 1: with like this change of offensive philosophy and what did
- 7:11Speaker 1: you figure, like, okay, so the rookie won the job.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So we all would sit here and would say, they're
- 7:17Speaker 1: probably gonna try to simplify some things for the kid.
- 7:20Speaker 1: They're gonna run the ball um, they're gonna try to
- 7:22Speaker 1: stay out of there, you know, all the cliches, and
- 7:25Speaker 1: they did like you had an idea of how they
- 7:27Speaker 1: were going to attack things, and then they did, and
- 7:30Speaker 1: I think Mac handled all of those things really well.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I mean, it didn't throw a touchdown for like five weeks,
- 7:35Speaker 1: but it seemed through a touchdowns first game, I know,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but we had like one five. He was low on
- 7:41Speaker 1: the touchdown stats, you know, for the beginning. I think
- 7:44Speaker 1: that's the thing about not being semantics, yam. Just they
- 7:49Speaker 1: never threw the ball into the end zone. Yeah, for
- 7:51Speaker 1: like five weeks. Yeah, he threw some touchdown passes, but yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 1: never like they wouldn't allow him. You know, they got
- 7:59Speaker 1: they gotta take the the tames off. But I don't know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: like there's been too you know, wouldn't allow him. He
- 8:06Speaker 1: didn't elect to throw them, you know. Yeah, so I
- 8:09Speaker 1: think some of it was on him too. I agree.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It was unique in that you had the rookie quarterbacks,
- 8:13Speaker 1: You had some kind of you know a little bit
- 8:15Speaker 1: let's see how it goes with him. But you also
- 8:17Speaker 1: were going from the twenty twenty weapons to all these
- 8:19Speaker 1: free agency weapons. So at that point you still had
- 8:22Speaker 1: all this confidence of John Smith, Hunter Henry and also
- 8:25Speaker 1: like you know, thinking of what that could be. Now
- 8:27Speaker 1: maybe we're kind of back to that point a little
- 8:29Speaker 1: bit in terms of the second year jumps and like thinking, well,
- 8:31Speaker 1: maybe John H. Smith this year and maybe Nelson this year,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but you still you still don't know when I think
- 8:36Speaker 1: for me, it's just about consistency. You just I think
- 8:39Speaker 1: that will be. What will be most maybe surprising to me,
- 8:42Speaker 1: is to see them go out there and string together
- 8:44Speaker 1: like a ten twelve play drive to have some success
- 8:46Speaker 1: in the run game. You'll be like, wow, where was
- 8:48Speaker 1: this all summer? Like, That's the thing I have to
- 8:50Speaker 1: despite all the hiccups we saw on the offense, I
- 8:52Speaker 1: have to think it's better for the receivers to know, okay,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Max my quarterback than last training camp, where it could
- 8:59Speaker 1: be Cam, it could be Mad who are completely different throwers.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You know that's true. You know that's true. I watched
- 9:05Speaker 1: some of it. I went back to twenty twenty two
- 9:07Speaker 1: watching Cam Newton and geez man, I talk about you
- 9:10Speaker 1: forget how bad it was, Like whoa when you're throwing boulders.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Oh well, just remember I remember Fred just the whole
- 9:16Speaker 1: body into the ball, like he just felt like he
- 9:18Speaker 1: was reaching back for the universe and trying to like,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you guys are such haters. It was covid. No, but
- 9:25Speaker 1: I mean he's trying to think of the new terminology
- 9:27Speaker 1: while he's doing it. No, but like you're right of
- 9:32Speaker 1: the effort it took to throw a twenty yard pass
- 9:35Speaker 1: was unbelievable. Yeah, and that's and that, like, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 1: kind of the impetus though, was just the you know,
- 9:41Speaker 1: like like we talked about all offseason, like the Patriots, Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: they finished second in the AFC East, but like Miami's
- 9:46Speaker 1: really owned them recently. Yeah. And you know, to go
- 9:49Speaker 1: back to that last game last season, at the end
- 9:51Speaker 1: of the year, going down, You're in the thick of
- 9:52Speaker 1: a playoff fight. Going into that game, you could have
- 9:54Speaker 1: been anywhere from the top seed to the sixth seed.
- 9:58Speaker 1: They come out, Miami strings, you know, right down the
- 10:00Speaker 1: field on them, you know, pick six, then again right
- 10:03Speaker 1: down the field on them, and before you know what,
- 10:05Speaker 1: it was seventeen nothing. And I mean, I just think
- 10:07Speaker 1: that that game, looking back on, it captured so many
- 10:10Speaker 1: of the issues that we talked about. I think the
- 10:12Speaker 1: run defense was terrible. You know, so many of their
- 10:16Speaker 1: conversions in third down there's just thirtain short. They're staying
- 10:19Speaker 1: on time, their running backs are picking up six seven,
- 10:21Speaker 1: yards a carry on on the early downs, putting them
- 10:24Speaker 1: in favorable situations. And you know, even looking back at
- 10:27Speaker 1: Miami's performance last year, like their offense, those were the
- 10:30Speaker 1: two best games of the season for them by far
- 10:33Speaker 1: in terms of like efficiency DVO way against the Patriots,
- 10:36Speaker 1: those two games are standalone. That says a lot why,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, and it just it shouldn't be that they
- 10:42Speaker 1: game the first game of the year was one of
- 10:44Speaker 1: their better statistical game offensively because I didn't think they
- 10:47Speaker 1: did anything offensively the second game. The I think they
- 10:50Speaker 1: were the lowest ranked rushing offense in football, and they
- 10:55Speaker 1: ran for about two hundred yards against the Patriots in
- 10:57Speaker 1: the in the last game week eighteen, I didn't remember them.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I thought they had like two drives in that in
- 11:02Speaker 1: the first game, one at the start of the game
- 11:04Speaker 1: and one at the start of the second half. It
- 11:06Speaker 1: was it was definitely better the second game. But yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I mean surprising and not not overwhelming, But I mean
- 11:12Speaker 1: you're looking at otherwise a very very average offense over
- 11:15Speaker 1: the course of the year, except for those Patriots games,
- 11:18Speaker 1: where it's not that they were like putting, it was
- 11:19Speaker 1: just they were which is why they they spent so
- 11:21Speaker 1: many resources to try to improve because they knew they
- 11:24Speaker 1: weren't good enough offensively, and they got a lot of
- 11:26Speaker 1: you know, free agents that they brought into to show
- 11:28Speaker 1: ups and spots. I mean the offensive line, which again,
- 11:30Speaker 1: like they taught you read some of the Dolphins stuff
- 11:32Speaker 1: about what an issue the offensive line was last year.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm like, we didn't get anywhere near too. I don't like,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't know what everyone else was watching, but their
- 11:39Speaker 1: offensive line did just find against our defensive line, at
- 11:42Speaker 1: least in those you know, bookend games of this. Remember
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, having him run around but never getting to him.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and there are a couple of those where
- 11:50Speaker 1: third down and third and long, and he in the
- 11:53Speaker 1: second game he had a key late scramble for a
- 11:56Speaker 1: first down. Yeah, which he doesn't do a whole lot of. Nope. Well,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I think that's you know, in the off season we
- 12:04Speaker 1: were talking about it, you know, these mobile quarterbacks starting
- 12:06Speaker 1: with Ta getting that speed on defense so that you
- 12:10Speaker 1: can contain these guys. It'll be interesting to see how
- 12:14Speaker 1: to I'm I'm kind of curious to watch him play
- 12:18Speaker 1: to see if he can be that guy that you
- 12:21Speaker 1: saw at Alabama who was like Fred said at you know,
- 12:24Speaker 1: a little bit more athletic and mobile. He hasn't been
- 12:27Speaker 1: that guy in the pros, and I think that's by design. Um.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I think they want to keep him in the pocket
- 12:31Speaker 1: as much as they can because he's he's small, and
- 12:34Speaker 1: I think he's going to be fragile, and if he
- 12:36Speaker 1: takes hits outside the pocket, I don't think he's going
- 12:39Speaker 1: to be able to sustain them. Yeah, I think I
- 12:42Speaker 1: think he's going to get hurt and worn down. So
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm kind of interested to see if his approach is
- 12:46Speaker 1: any different this year, or if they just want to
- 12:49Speaker 1: keep getting the ball out of his hands quickly. And
- 12:50Speaker 1: that's what I think it is, Like, you know, looking back,
- 12:52Speaker 1: why why is two or three? And Oz and his
- 12:54Speaker 1: numbers they're not like outstand twenty five times, right. I
- 12:59Speaker 1: think it's just the fact that Miami somehow knows how
- 13:02Speaker 1: to stay on time against this defense. And it's not
- 13:04Speaker 1: that they light him up. They just first down, first down,
- 13:07Speaker 1: first down, score, you know, thirteen play drives. It's not well,
- 13:10Speaker 1: something's you had. Flora is there and he certainly knew us.
- 13:14Speaker 1: He certainly knew our offense, and he knew the personnel
- 13:17Speaker 1: on defense, he's gone, but do you think the lessons
- 13:20Speaker 1: he are still there? Well, I think that that's something
- 13:22Speaker 1: to point out because I do feel looking at these
- 13:24Speaker 1: games specifically on the offensive side of the ball, which
- 13:27Speaker 1: doesn't totally match up with I think the point you're
- 13:29Speaker 1: trying to make, but it does seem like Miami played
- 13:32Speaker 1: a little punched above their weight and the games against
- 13:34Speaker 1: the Patriots a little bit at least offensively on our defense.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Do you think there's enough new faces on our defense
- 13:40Speaker 1: where anything that Flora is left behind you can throw
- 13:43Speaker 1: out the window because there's enough new faces or well,
- 13:46Speaker 1: they still have Josh Boyer is the defense. He's so
- 13:49Speaker 1: he's going to be probably running. And I thought it
- 13:50Speaker 1: was interesting to listen to Bill talk about he could
- 13:53Speaker 1: probably call out our defense, and we could probably call
- 13:55Speaker 1: out what they're doing on defense. Okay, just by the formations,
- 13:59Speaker 1: even the terminology. Um So, I think there's still a
- 14:02Speaker 1: lot of a lot of similarities between them when Flores
- 14:05Speaker 1: was doing and what they're doing now. Yeah, I mean
- 14:07Speaker 1: in the opener they blitz back twenty one times, the
- 14:10Speaker 1: last one they bliss them twelve, So they did bring
- 14:12Speaker 1: it back a little bit. I'm sure throwing throwing the
- 14:14Speaker 1: house at the rookie game one that that makes a
- 14:16Speaker 1: lot of which they also got a big lead in
- 14:18Speaker 1: the second seventeen. Nothing, no need to blit, you know,
- 14:20Speaker 1: just keep everything in front of you and make them.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But if you're if you're spinning up the defensive game
- 14:25Speaker 1: plan from Miami, wouldn't you do that in game one?
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's just well, of course, at least to start to
- 14:30Speaker 1: see how he and if you remember, he handled it okay, Yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 1: so they probably said, all right, we can't just treat
- 14:35Speaker 1: him like any other rookie. He handled it over, but
- 14:37Speaker 1: I would do it again, of course. That's and that's
- 14:39Speaker 1: absolutely to Paul's point that he's you know, making fun
- 14:41Speaker 1: of us rightly, so of and I said to Paul,
- 14:43Speaker 1: we're walking over to do the TV show Ustard, and
- 14:45Speaker 1: it was like, jeez, you know, Paul, the offense is
- 14:48Speaker 1: like exactly the same except for DeVante Parker and Cole Strange.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Like that's basically the change that you're taking to Miami.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It's the same kind of thing. So you know, probably
- 14:54Speaker 1: Paul was right making fun of me. It'll be like,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I'm excited, but I don't defense in our defense. You
- 15:01Speaker 1: know if Ti Montgomery was healthy and if if Thornton
- 15:03Speaker 1: was kind of nipping there. But we always we always
- 15:09Speaker 1: talk about the domino effect on a depth chart, when
- 15:11Speaker 1: you bring somebody in or take somebody out, how it affects. Now,
- 15:15Speaker 1: who's your number two? Now, who's your number three? I
- 15:17Speaker 1: think Parker's is significant. I think that that kind of
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know, puts other people where they should be in
- 15:24Speaker 1: the depth chart, you know what I mean? Yeah, I don't.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm like, like last year Myers or Agal shouldn't have
- 15:29Speaker 1: been at number one or Born, Yeah, I would say,
- 15:32Speaker 1: And I think you're right. I mean, I you know,
- 15:35Speaker 1: it's not that DeVante Parker's this super dynamic weapon that
- 15:38Speaker 1: you can do all kinds of stuff with. But I
- 15:39Speaker 1: think what he does well, he does well. And that's
- 15:41Speaker 1: something that you have to consider, you know, you have
- 15:44Speaker 1: to at least consider it, especially with you know, I'm
- 15:47Speaker 1: sure let's let's put let's think of DeVante Parker in
- 15:50Speaker 1: another way. Let's say that the Keel Harry was as
- 15:54Speaker 1: good as Davante Parker is. Now as a first we'd
- 15:56Speaker 1: be like, okay, yeah, well, I mean it's it's I mean,
- 15:59Speaker 1: the contest catches in the end zone, the fades that
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know I was making fun of so much early
- 16:03Speaker 1: in camp, and now you know later in camp they
- 16:05Speaker 1: got the little slant into the equation. I'm sure that
- 16:07Speaker 1: they'll work a comeback to up the sideline. But even
- 16:10Speaker 1: if it's all he does, that's okay, just as long
- 16:12Speaker 1: as they're effective and it gives them something to think about.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'll tell you, every time they're inside the twenty,
- 16:16Speaker 1: that first play DeVante Parker chuck it up to him.
- 16:18Speaker 1: See see what happens, Especially with you know, Byron Jones
- 16:21Speaker 1: being out, the cornerback depth kind of being tested. They
- 16:24Speaker 1: don't have great cornerback depth, so you know, how can
- 16:26Speaker 1: you maybe try to exploit some of those matchups down
- 16:29Speaker 1: down the depth chart a little bit. But is Howard
- 16:33Speaker 1: their number one? Oh yeah, yeah, he's better than he's
- 16:36Speaker 1: one of the three vest corners of yall. He's better
- 16:38Speaker 1: than the guy that's out. Oh yeah, oh yeah, play
- 16:40Speaker 1: a lot. Yeah, but two good guys. And but you
- 16:42Speaker 1: know then, but Jones is a pretty good number two.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Nick Needham I think would probably have to start. Obviously
- 16:47Speaker 1: there's a drop off there, and then they had a
- 16:49Speaker 1: high draft pick who I'm not going to try to
- 16:51Speaker 1: pronounce his name. He's been a tremendous disappointment for them.
- 16:54Speaker 1: A lot of people didn't know if he would even
- 16:56Speaker 1: make the team. Noah, Yeah, igbow Wanna, I used to
- 17:01Speaker 1: be able to shut up. Look, I could see him
- 17:03Speaker 1: scrambling in there, make sure I get my lunch. Ig
- 17:06Speaker 1: been not gonna. I think is maybe in the in
- 17:09Speaker 1: the general neighborhood of it. I could probably say it
- 17:12Speaker 1: last year, but he's been either way, he's been a disappointment.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Right then you're looking to like Callege free agents and
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know Keyon Cross, an old friend Elijah Campbell. I mean,
- 17:21Speaker 1: there's just so some deep so maybe you can get
- 17:23Speaker 1: down into there. But I still think we talked about
- 17:25Speaker 1: it on the show yesterday, the TV show was the
- 17:28Speaker 1: offensive line, you know, like that's I think that's where
- 17:30Speaker 1: it all starts. Forget about like matching up receivers and
- 17:32Speaker 1: all that. Like if they can't protect and they can't
- 17:35Speaker 1: open some running lanes up to get the offense going,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I don't know how much the rest of that stuff
- 17:39Speaker 1: really matters. Yeah, I mean we're gonna get into like,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know, uh, game planning for Miami but do you
- 17:46Speaker 1: think the game plan for the Patriots defense is to
- 17:50Speaker 1: attack to or do you you know, flood zones or
- 17:56Speaker 1: you know, drop more people in coverage and do it
- 17:58Speaker 1: that way because pages have done both. Yeah. Well, And
- 18:01Speaker 1: then by contrast, Patriots blitz to a five times of
- 18:04Speaker 1: the first week three times in the second meetings heavy blitz.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I think he's a hard guy that blitz because he
- 18:09Speaker 1: gets rid of the ball so quickly. Yep, you know,
- 18:11Speaker 1: But what you know? But what do they have? You know?
- 18:13Speaker 1: I mean the defense is different, there are new pieces
- 18:15Speaker 1: on defense, there are new things that they can try
- 18:17Speaker 1: to do. But you know, just to come out of
- 18:19Speaker 1: the gate in that final week eighteen game and allow
- 18:22Speaker 1: a thirteen play seventy seven yard drive Macdro's then a
- 18:25Speaker 1: fifteen play seven Like that's just what do you bring
- 18:28Speaker 1: it into the game? Like you didn't even really have
- 18:30Speaker 1: You weren't prepared for what they've been doing. And they've
- 18:32Speaker 1: been doing kind of the same thing to you now
- 18:33Speaker 1: for you know, three games. So how does the defensive
- 18:36Speaker 1: plan change? Do they play more zone? Did they try
- 18:38Speaker 1: to use Marcus Jones and jet those speedy guys in
- 18:41Speaker 1: the middle. Do they try to get faster. How do
- 18:43Speaker 1: they use the safeties to you know, you just watch
- 18:45Speaker 1: the game. It's pitch and catch. Everything they're doing is
- 18:47Speaker 1: working when they you know, started those games off right
- 18:50Speaker 1: into it with the RPOs and you know, good runs
- 18:52Speaker 1: and you know, so it's just it's all connected. The
- 18:54Speaker 1: run defense has got to be better. I mean Bill
- 18:57Speaker 1: would never say it, but I know it's philosophy for
- 19:00Speaker 1: a long time, is these teams will eventually make a
- 19:03Speaker 1: mistake on offense. So let's not force it. Let's just
- 19:06Speaker 1: not give up the big play. Let's make them earn it.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Let's make them go down the field. In short, you
- 19:11Speaker 1: know a lot of plays. If they if they can
- 19:15Speaker 1: execute fifteen plays, so be it. But we're not going
- 19:18Speaker 1: to take chances and allow them to get you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: now that doesn't always work. Um. I think last year
- 19:24Speaker 1: then they give up more chunk plays than they have
- 19:26Speaker 1: in a long time. But but I think that's always
- 19:28Speaker 1: been his thing is you know, get the f back,
- 19:31Speaker 1: don't allow the big plays. And I mean, and as
- 19:34Speaker 1: Bill pointed out today, I mean San Francisco, you know,
- 19:36Speaker 1: one of the league leaders in yards after catch. So
- 19:38Speaker 1: it's you know, it's not even just not getting beat
- 19:41Speaker 1: over the top. I think it's as much about tackling,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and I think the big plays. I mean that's you know,
- 19:46Speaker 1: if you miss a tackle, that's oh they're gone. That's
- 19:51Speaker 1: limit the big place. But it's not necessarily get back
- 19:54Speaker 1: because I think that they will make a lot of
- 19:56Speaker 1: big plays on shore. It passes this year. Well, now
- 19:59Speaker 1: now that they have Hill and yeah, Hill waddle, Wilson
- 20:03Speaker 1: mostert Edmund's speed. Yeah, a lot of speed. Yep. So
- 20:08Speaker 1: it's it's just okay, maybe they make the catch, but
- 20:12Speaker 1: you gotta be there. You gotta have that one arm
- 20:14Speaker 1: around the waist and get him down. And you know,
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think that's kind of the philosophy with you know,
- 20:19Speaker 1: Marcus Jones and all that, Like he may not be
- 20:21Speaker 1: the best coverage guy, but if he's there, yeah, then
- 20:24Speaker 1: he can at least make the tackle and limit the play. Right. Well,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I think we'll all probably be beside ourselves if they
- 20:29Speaker 1: get out there and it's like Carl Davis godchaw to
- 20:32Speaker 1: buy like heavy, heavy lineup, like, but then it's how
- 20:36Speaker 1: do they stop the run? Well, the lighter stuff, yes see,
- 20:40Speaker 1: that's that's the that's the problem is if you go
- 20:43Speaker 1: light and you get one down with the running game.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And remember that Week eighteen game that Mike is talking about.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I think Duke Johnson had like one hundred and thirty
- 20:52Speaker 1: yards in that game. They ran for about one hundred.
- 20:54Speaker 1: They've ran for almost two hundred yards in that game. Yeah,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and again, they don't expect to be the worst rushing
- 21:00Speaker 1: offense in football this year. They've made significant improvements, two
- 21:04Speaker 1: offensive linemen that are new and two running backs that
- 21:07Speaker 1: they brought in. They think they're going to be better
- 21:09Speaker 1: running the ball. I don't, you know, We'll see they
- 21:12Speaker 1: have the questions that the Patriots do. I mean, we'll
- 21:14Speaker 1: see it's a new a new offense that they're implementing
- 21:17Speaker 1: happens to be the same offense, but we'll see. If
- 21:20Speaker 1: there are any further alonge, then the Patriots are in
- 21:22Speaker 1: that regard. But if they can run the ball and
- 21:23Speaker 1: wear down those smaller linebackers, the Patriots is gonna have
- 21:28Speaker 1: a hard time, you know, limiting big plays when you
- 21:30Speaker 1: had to devote extra bodies, because I don't think they
- 21:32Speaker 1: can afford to devote extra bodies to stop the run. No,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and I mean, you got run for one hundred and
- 21:38Speaker 1: ninety five yards was the total with Duke Johnson. Who
- 21:41Speaker 1: where did he even go? End up in Miami? I
- 21:43Speaker 1: mean that's you know, been around the league and they're terrible,
- 21:46Speaker 1: supposedly terrible offensive line. So you know, those those facts
- 21:50Speaker 1: don't don't make you feel great. And they brought in
- 21:51Speaker 1: Taran obstaed and uh, who's the center from Dallas there,
- 21:55Speaker 1: Connor Williams. I mean, there's no doubt that after that
- 21:58Speaker 1: buy there was something wrong with that Patriots defense last
- 22:02Speaker 1: year starting in Indianapolis, when they just they couldn't stop anybody,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and and it just continued. Oh and this was a
- 22:09Speaker 1: revisit of it, because that was you got to that point.
- 22:11Speaker 1: You're reading some of the old game previews of all
- 22:13Speaker 1: the opportunity the Patriots still have. You know, they blew
- 22:15Speaker 1: out Jacksonville, Let's go down to Miami. It's a tough
- 22:18Speaker 1: place you can regroup, and you know, they just they
- 22:21Speaker 1: didn't bring it right out of the gate. I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 1: how much worse can it get to give a long
- 22:24Speaker 1: sustained drive and then throw a pick six. It's like
- 22:26Speaker 1: you're immediately right in the right behind the eight ball.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So they can't do that to themselves if they want
- 22:31Speaker 1: any chance to win the first year head coach factor.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I mean, are we buying into any of that? Does
- 22:38Speaker 1: it move the needle at all? I mean not so
- 22:40Speaker 1: much for me, because I think you still have the
- 22:42Speaker 1: defensive coaches that are going to know what they want
- 22:45Speaker 1: to do. Maybe they don't have the same kind of
- 22:47Speaker 1: overall team fire that that Floores might have brought. But
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know, I also think that that this offense with
- 22:54Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel's given the Patriots plenty of problems going back
- 22:56Speaker 1: to you know, most recently here in twenty twenty against
- 22:59Speaker 1: San Francisco. It was the same kind of thing. They
- 23:01Speaker 1: just they had no answers for it. So I saw
- 23:03Speaker 1: them have no answers against two well last year. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: saw them have no answers against McDaniel's offense a couple
- 23:07Speaker 1: of years ago. So it's it's it's such an interesting
- 23:11Speaker 1: matchup right out of the gate against the team you
- 23:13Speaker 1: really should know, a team that's beaten you pretty handily,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know the last time you saw them in this
- 23:18Speaker 1: same setting. So you know, good opportunity for Mac. I
- 23:21Speaker 1: think it's a really tough area for him. We know
- 23:23Speaker 1: how hard it is down there in Florida for anybody
- 23:25Speaker 1: to play. But what's the line right now? Three? I
- 23:28Speaker 1: think the ch answer your question. I always would give
- 23:32Speaker 1: Bill an edge virtually against any coach, but especially against
- 23:36Speaker 1: the first time coach. I do kind of agree with Mike.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I think it's mitigated a little bit because of a
- 23:43Speaker 1: couple of factors. First of all, overall, and I thought
- 23:46Speaker 1: Mike Reese had this on Sunday and one of his
- 23:49Speaker 1: one of his notes in his Sunday column, his winning
- 23:53Speaker 1: percentage against first time coaches is pretty much the same
- 23:55Speaker 1: as his winning percentage against everybody else, right, so it's
- 23:57Speaker 1: not as big as six. So I thought that was
- 24:01Speaker 1: interesting to start. You would have thought it would have
- 24:03Speaker 1: been higher, right, like he was five and oh last
- 24:06Speaker 1: year against first time coaches. But the part that I
- 24:08Speaker 1: think is really mitigated is I don't think this is
- 24:10Speaker 1: a typical situation that you find the first time coaching,
- 24:13Speaker 1: the first year coach. It's a it's not a terrible team.
- 24:17Speaker 1: They went nine and eighty, they've made improvements. It's it's
- 24:20Speaker 1: not a bad team. Usually it's Robert Sala taking over
- 24:23Speaker 1: a three win Jets team, right, that's why they're going
- 24:26Speaker 1: to smack. And they got a new head coach, you know,
- 24:27Speaker 1: And that's why they were in the market for a
- 24:29Speaker 1: new coach exactly. And I don't think I mean, Miami
- 24:32Speaker 1: shocked a lot of people by by getting rid of
- 24:34Speaker 1: Brian Flores. We all know why now, ye right, um,
- 24:39Speaker 1: But it wasn't a team that I think most people
- 24:41Speaker 1: would have thought, well, they got to start over. Man,
- 24:43Speaker 1: they need a new coach, you know. Certainly not that night,
- 24:47Speaker 1: right when we were doing the postgame show after week eighteen.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I don't think any of us was thinking, Wow, this
- 24:52Speaker 1: team's really going to be dangerous next year when they
- 24:53Speaker 1: get a real good coach. Yeah, we thought they had
- 24:57Speaker 1: instead had Tyreek Hill. So again, I think that you
- 25:00Speaker 1: have an advantage going against the first time coach, largely
- 25:03Speaker 1: because your roster was a lot better than the other
- 25:05Speaker 1: team's roster. You know, I don't think that's the case
- 25:09Speaker 1: right now. Not a receiver, all right? Eight five five
- 25:13Speaker 1: five hundred is the ace ticket, hut line web radio
- 25:16Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. Is the email address? Any other
- 25:19Speaker 1: news that we wanted, you know, talk about before we
- 25:22Speaker 1: open it up to the listeners. Laquon treadwell, a little
- 25:24Speaker 1: practice squad additions. We don't know who left right, they
- 25:28Speaker 1: still had a spat. There was like an offensive lineman
- 25:32Speaker 1: who was here for a day, wasn't even at practice,
- 25:34Speaker 1: and then he ended up going somewhere. I thought we
- 25:36Speaker 1: deemed him a tryout that original one was and then
- 25:39Speaker 1: another guy came in like a later and then and
- 25:42Speaker 1: then I guess he was here briefly but then signed
- 25:44Speaker 1: somewhere else. So, um, you know, it's a four four
- 25:46Speaker 1: receivers now on the practice squad, little Jordan train Nix
- 25:49Speaker 1: and Lynn Bowden and LaQuan trap You read anything into
- 25:52Speaker 1: Laquon Treadwell, I read in some concern about Myers just
- 25:56Speaker 1: I mean, he got banged up a little bit. Seems
- 25:58Speaker 1: like he's been limited, and I mean, I don't think
- 26:00Speaker 1: they can just go into the game with Parker Agle
- 26:03Speaker 1: not typical that I am completely swayed in my opinion
- 26:06Speaker 1: before and then I get an answer and I was like,
- 26:08Speaker 1: that's a good point. Oh yeah, but I mean I
- 26:11Speaker 1: think you're down down. I was thinking of LaQuan Treadwell
- 26:14Speaker 1: as he's a former first round pick. He's a guy
- 26:16Speaker 1: that's been in the league, he hasn't really produced. Bill's
- 26:18Speaker 1: taken a flyer on him. He'll be gone in two weeks.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's why possible. Maybe I could be true too. Maybe
- 26:24Speaker 1: Juice makes a good point. They could both be true. Yeah, maybe,
- 26:27Speaker 1: But I mean I'm all for it, I think at
- 26:29Speaker 1: this point. I mean, I haven't been blown away with
- 26:31Speaker 1: anybody other really than than Thornton and Parker and some
- 26:34Speaker 1: you know, I think everybody's okay. But I just think
- 26:36Speaker 1: I I love just like I love drafting quarterbacks. I
- 26:40Speaker 1: love bringing receivers in, especially with Mac. Try guys out,
- 26:43Speaker 1: you know, like I anytime they would bring former high
- 26:45Speaker 1: round picks and get kicked the tires on it. Why not?
- 26:48Speaker 1: It's so hard to find, you know, really good weapons.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Maybe maybe somebody would click with Mac and you'd find something.
- 26:52Speaker 1: But Paul's probably right. I mean no, I think that
- 26:55Speaker 1: I think would probably both right. I think that you are.
- 26:59Speaker 1: You make it good point like that. I think the
- 27:01Speaker 1: first round thing is is a factor with Bill. I
- 27:04Speaker 1: think Bill he likes the talent and trying to find
- 27:09Speaker 1: out for himself why it hasn't worked out for someone
- 27:12Speaker 1: just now. The guy has a little humility like, oh,
- 27:15Speaker 1: you know, your first round pick. It's not so easy,
- 27:18Speaker 1: isn't well? The guys he's been around a long time.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I mean, if that was the problem, it was just
- 27:22Speaker 1: it was too high on himself. He would have had
- 27:25Speaker 1: a chance on one of his last eight teams to
- 27:27Speaker 1: fix that. Um another story that we haven't heard any
- 27:31Speaker 1: news on our captains. A lot of other teams are
- 27:34Speaker 1: putting out their captains. Patriots haven't announced any yet. I
- 27:38Speaker 1: would assume we'll find out before the game, right, what
- 27:41Speaker 1: do you read into that? I think maybe Bill is
- 27:44Speaker 1: holding off and using as sort of a bonding thing
- 27:47Speaker 1: for while they're together down in Miami, maybe to make
- 27:50Speaker 1: the announcement to the team. You know, you had labored
- 27:53Speaker 1: a and everything, and we're usually in no rush to
- 27:56Speaker 1: name those things anyway. But I'll be surprised if if
- 28:00Speaker 1: Mac isn't one of those. That's that's why I really
- 28:03Speaker 1: want to I mean, you know it's gonna be David
- 28:04Speaker 1: Andrews and mccuardy, you know, umvent. I think Bentley probably
- 28:09Speaker 1: sneaked back, but I want to see if Mac, and
- 28:12Speaker 1: I'm assuming that he will be one. You know, now,
- 28:15Speaker 1: was Brady always the captain? Was that? Ye? Always a captain?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Maybe I'm just confusing who walks out? He just won't
- 28:22Speaker 1: he won't walk. He wouldn't walk out. Yeah, yeah, he's
- 28:24Speaker 1: still the captain. Actually, they just haven't you know. Yeah, no,
- 28:28Speaker 1: he didn't walk. Well, quarterbacks usually don't because they're usually
- 28:32Speaker 1: they gotta get busy. Yeah yeah, okay, yeah, I just
- 28:35Speaker 1: think he doesn't. I think other quarterbacks do you do? Yeah, well, yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: we want the ball, We're going to score, right, he
- 28:42Speaker 1: was out there, But I think like Josh Allen was
- 28:45Speaker 1: out there at the playoff game against Kansas City last year.
- 28:49Speaker 1: That's why they didn't win, right, just been getting ready.
- 28:55Speaker 1: He didn't win because he was he wasn't warmed up,
- 28:59Speaker 1: so not ever watch the ball again in that champ
- 29:01Speaker 1: that's right. Uh yeah, so, I but there's so many unknowns.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I feel like I am going into this season knowing
- 29:10Speaker 1: less about the Patriots than than I normal. I mean,
- 29:13Speaker 1: let's face it, we probably allway Belichicks at the same thing.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We always like we always know nothing, right, we always
- 29:17Speaker 1: don't know what's going to happen. And yeah, you know
- 29:20Speaker 1: building you know, I don't know how many people I
- 29:21Speaker 1: thought we were gonna get strip sacked on the first
- 29:23Speaker 1: play of the season. For I remember that one hundred
- 29:25Speaker 1: years ago against Buffalo. You know, you know the Twitter
- 29:28Speaker 1: gift of of Leonardo DiCaprio from Once upon a Time
- 29:32Speaker 1: in Hollywood where he like points at the TV. It's
- 29:34Speaker 1: kind of a popular like little mean where he's like,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I feel like there's gonna be a lot of that
- 29:37Speaker 1: going on, where it's like look a ten plus yard run,
- 29:40Speaker 1: Like look an RPO wide zone, Like is there gonna
- 29:43Speaker 1: be so many like things that kind of gets sprung
- 29:45Speaker 1: on you, like look at that. Also, remember not last year,
- 29:50Speaker 1: but uh the year before with cam new opening they
- 29:55Speaker 1: opened with Miami again probably remember they ran all those options.
- 29:58Speaker 1: It's like, oh, this is what we're gonna see and
- 30:00Speaker 1: we didn't. Yeah, you know, it's just that game, yeah
- 30:02Speaker 1: and that and and it worked out was I mean,
- 30:04Speaker 1: they kind of caught them off guard. I mean, that's
- 30:07Speaker 1: probably a good example of you know, one of those
- 30:09Speaker 1: kind of weird first games where you've got a little
- 30:11Speaker 1: something in the bag and it just is enough. But
- 30:14Speaker 1: but I mean even last year's first one, they're going
- 30:16Speaker 1: into score. If we see something we haven't seen yet
- 30:20Speaker 1: this summer, what will it be from the Patriots that
- 30:23Speaker 1: we haven't seen? Yeah, like during the summer, would what
- 30:27Speaker 1: would surprise you that oh, we haven't seen that all summer.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I don't know if there's anything that I could put
- 30:34Speaker 1: in that category. I would say, just if there were
- 30:36Speaker 1: a bunch of RPO stuff, if you know, if we
- 30:38Speaker 1: if we got a real sense that Mac was just
- 30:40Speaker 1: kind of you know, being able to pick at the
- 30:42Speaker 1: line what he wants to do, and you know, I don't, Yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I don't think really easy. I think I've seen I've
- 30:48Speaker 1: seen it, you know, and it all no, no, no, no, no.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I mean I think this summer they've tried some of that.
- 30:53Speaker 1: They've tried under center, they've spread it out, they've gone
- 30:56Speaker 1: five wide, they've had all right, I'll get two back
- 31:00Speaker 1: in the backfield, like like you know, traditional power running.
- 31:04Speaker 1: That would surprise me. I haven't seen any of that, Okay,
- 31:06Speaker 1: like running Johnny was the full back, full on or anybody,
- 31:08Speaker 1: but yes, Johnah would probably be the guy. Mike. Yeah, Like,
- 31:11Speaker 1: I haven't really seen any of that, Like we're gonna
- 31:13Speaker 1: line up and run the ball power with two guys
- 31:16Speaker 1: in the backfield like we did last year with Jacob Johnson.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I haven't seen any of that, right camp, Which that
- 31:20Speaker 1: would surprise me, which begs another question of I'm just curious.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Fourth and one at the goal line, you gotta have it?
- 31:25Speaker 1: What what's your go to? I mean for so long
- 31:27Speaker 1: it's been fair like you just go empty, spread of
- 31:29Speaker 1: that with Mac and let him pick his hole. Yeah,
- 31:32Speaker 1: like they used to do with camp. I mean, would
- 31:35Speaker 1: you be surprised if they do, in fact blitz a
- 31:37Speaker 1: lot on defense? No, I mean if they've done, they've
- 31:42Speaker 1: blitzed a lot, and I think it's gonna be the
- 31:44Speaker 1: same thing. I mean, why would you do anything different.
- 31:47Speaker 1: You don't play man line up, you know, see see
- 31:50Speaker 1: what they got. No, he's talking about the Patriot. I'm
- 31:51Speaker 1: talking about Patriots. The Patriots blitz a lot this summer,
- 31:54Speaker 1: especially in the preseason. Yeah, but they didn't blitz a
- 31:56Speaker 1: lot when they played Miami. No. I mean I probably
- 32:00Speaker 1: would be against it strategically in my limited football spais,
- 32:04Speaker 1: But like I just try to see if we can
- 32:06Speaker 1: get it done with Barnmore and Jude on it, and
- 32:08Speaker 1: see if we can win some matchups and get them,
- 32:10Speaker 1: you know, let's test these these offensive linemen and get
- 32:12Speaker 1: you know, those guys isolated and one on ones and
- 32:15Speaker 1: see if we could win there. Rather than you know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: I just it felt like the Patriots were on their
- 32:19Speaker 1: defensive heels so much of that last game, and right
- 32:22Speaker 1: from the get go, just not really knowing what's coming,
- 32:25Speaker 1: you know, even the runs that you kind of have
- 32:27Speaker 1: stuffed out get three or four yards, so i'd be
- 32:30Speaker 1: all four just playing some zone, putting speed on the field,
- 32:33Speaker 1: and you know, and trying to why. I think they'll
- 32:35Speaker 1: be conservative on defense, I really do, and I think
- 32:38Speaker 1: they'll probably be predominant zone in the secondary. I don't
- 32:42Speaker 1: think that they have the cover. Guys, even if you
- 32:44Speaker 1: wanted to say, well, Jonathan Jones with mccaudy over the top,
- 32:47Speaker 1: which was a formula they used with some success against
- 32:50Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill, can you just say, Jalen Mills, you have
- 32:54Speaker 1: Jalen Waddle, right, I don't think he could do that. No, No,
- 32:58Speaker 1: And are you traveling guys? You are you? Are you
- 33:00Speaker 1: having Jonathan Jones follow Tyrek? And may you know like
- 33:03Speaker 1: like how how does the whole mechanism of it work?
- 33:06Speaker 1: So you know, I mean I know if I if
- 33:08Speaker 1: I was Miami, I would use that to our advantage.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And you know, try to get Jalen Waddle on Mills
- 33:13Speaker 1: or I mean on Bryant too. You know those two
- 33:15Speaker 1: guys like just you know, get them opposite sides and
- 33:18Speaker 1: try to work it that way. What's more? What's more
- 33:20Speaker 1: important covering well or getting to a you know, office
- 33:25Speaker 1: rhythm like you know, I just I mean, I think
- 33:28Speaker 1: it's just getting the offense out of rhythm. And you know,
- 33:31Speaker 1: I mean it's maybe this is just stupid, you know,
- 33:34Speaker 1: basic football talk, but you know, winning the early downs
- 33:37Speaker 1: and not getting gas for three, four or five yards
- 33:39Speaker 1: and setting up third and short. Because I think that
- 33:41Speaker 1: he's really good in those kind of situations. But when
- 33:44Speaker 1: you get them down into third and long, I don't
- 33:46Speaker 1: think it's as it's as dangerous as it is when
- 33:49Speaker 1: they're on time. And you know, no, I know there's
- 33:51Speaker 1: varying degrees of this. Buffalo could be in third and
- 33:53Speaker 1: long and it doesn't really matter, but I think it
- 33:56Speaker 1: does matter for Miami. I agree, it's a big different
- 33:58Speaker 1: Buffalo Kansas City. Even with that speed. I mean that
- 34:02Speaker 1: speed has to be a factor of a little catching
- 34:04Speaker 1: and run for you know, eleven twelve yards on third
- 34:06Speaker 1: and long. But I think it's it's just the speed
- 34:10Speaker 1: is a factor. But I think take them out of
- 34:12Speaker 1: out of things right from the get go. Early downs,
- 34:14Speaker 1: make them, you know, second and long, third and long,
- 34:16Speaker 1: force him to make you know, drop back and have
- 34:19Speaker 1: to play. Take them out of their comfort zone. Um,
- 34:21Speaker 1: because I think when it's on time, they're really good.
- 34:23Speaker 1: They seem to have it. They seem to know what
- 34:25Speaker 1: the Patriots do, and they're pretty comfortable going against it.
- 34:27Speaker 1: All right, eight five five past five hundred is the
- 34:29Speaker 1: a sticket outline. Web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 34:32Speaker 1: the email address. Let's go to the phones. We'll start
- 34:35Speaker 1: with Christian in La. What's up, Christian? Hey, Happy Tuesday
- 34:39Speaker 1: to you guys. It is left in a week away
- 34:42Speaker 1: and now I have to butterfly. I remember last a
- 34:46Speaker 1: month ago I had to butterfly and you guys said,
- 34:48Speaker 1: not yet. Hold Now I have the butterfly, so here
- 34:52Speaker 1: we go. Good God, I don't know that I feel
- 34:55Speaker 1: good about anything going into this. And I actually for
- 34:59Speaker 1: the first time in a very long time. And yes,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I am a chew Diehard Bomer. Right, I'm here in La,
- 35:04Speaker 1: and I'm still a pat fan been you know, been
- 35:06Speaker 1: with the team for years and years and years since
- 35:08Speaker 1: seventy nine. I see this as the first season in
- 35:12Speaker 1: a long time that Bill's gonna lose to a to
- 35:13Speaker 1: a first year head coach. I just I just don't
- 35:17Speaker 1: see enough from us for his coaching acumen to push us,
- 35:21Speaker 1: you know, put us above even a game with he
- 35:23Speaker 1: lost to Josh McDaniel, brand new head coach. He lost
- 35:26Speaker 1: the map, Patricia, Yeah, I mean last year they were
- 35:29Speaker 1: five at all against First and didn't he look lose
- 35:31Speaker 1: to Dable When he was with Cleveland. Dable wasn't the
- 35:34Speaker 1: head coach, but he was, Yeah, he was first, he
- 35:37Speaker 1: was Yeah, he was the offensive coordinator. Oh, he's coordinated.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I don't know if that was the first year, but yeah, yeah,
- 35:44Speaker 1: so yeah, I mean Bill, we should look at Bill's
- 35:47Speaker 1: record against former players or coaches. Well that's the that's
- 35:51Speaker 1: the thing that has been that that's been an issue.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I mean, that's not the case here, but he has
- 35:55Speaker 1: man Jeannie actually beat him a couple of times again
- 35:58Speaker 1: with the Jets, and he beat him with yep Cleveland, yep. Ye.
- 36:02Speaker 1: All right, thanks Christian um Matt, you you weren't going
- 36:07Speaker 1: to remind me about this read where you know you
- 36:09Speaker 1: weren't because you said read it early in the in
- 36:13Speaker 1: the show and it's twelve thirty six right now, So
- 36:16Speaker 1: all right, but listen, I I run with bridge Stone
- 36:20Speaker 1: Tires and now Bridgetone is the official tire of the
- 36:24Speaker 1: New England Patriots and a proud partner with Sullivan Tire,
- 36:27Speaker 1: New England's headquarters for quality. Bridge Stone Tires. Visit Sullivan
- 36:31Speaker 1: Tire dot Com to find a location near you. So okay,
- 36:37Speaker 1: Bridgetone tires, Baby, I run. I have to run flat
- 36:40Speaker 1: tires on my car. Have you and but you had
- 36:43Speaker 1: you had to use them once? Right? You had a
- 36:44Speaker 1: flat the flat time? Great? Yeah, I think I got shot.
- 36:49Speaker 1: I was just people are coming on Pine Street, a
- 36:52Speaker 1: bang something hit me? Yeah, sniper anyway, Bridgetont Tire Sullivan
- 36:57Speaker 1: Tire dot Com. Check it out. They're all over the
- 37:00Speaker 1: places shooting. Someone just shot his tire. I think you
- 37:04Speaker 1: can do that. Yeah, now, but you got to catch
- 37:05Speaker 1: people from time. You got to catch the person. Let's
- 37:10Speaker 1: go to um Bill in Oklahoma. What's up? Bill? Than
- 37:16Speaker 1: I pres to be on the original sports podcast in America,
- 37:20Speaker 1: the world's original. Thank you. Yeah, thanks builder. I don't
- 37:23Speaker 1: want to limit you. I had a quick trivia question
- 37:26Speaker 1: for you guys. Had when was the last time that
- 37:29Speaker 1: Patriots opened on the road in Miami season opener season
- 37:34Speaker 1: opener twoy ten? Is that that that big back and
- 37:37Speaker 1: forth Monday night? Yeah? Maybe? Yeah? Okay? Is that it?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Is that the answer? I don't know. I was just asking.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I don't have Okay, I'll look it up. That was
- 37:48Speaker 1: off the tops, got the media guy in front you,
- 37:50Speaker 1: I'll look it up. We'll find out for for sure.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It was actually eleven? Is the game? It was two
- 37:54Speaker 1: thousand and eleven? Was the game? I was thinking of,
- 37:56Speaker 1: We'll see if there's any other Miami? Oh wait, fourteen,
- 38:01Speaker 1: twenty fourteen would be the answer. Okay, what was the
- 38:04Speaker 1: results of that asking? Blasted? Yeah, the national media is
- 38:10Speaker 1: making a big deal about them going down on today
- 38:13Speaker 1: to acclimate to the weather. Is this an admission without
- 38:20Speaker 1: saying it to everybody that Bill has been wrong about
- 38:25Speaker 1: the weather and then being ready to play down there.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I mean, I can see where you say that. I
- 38:32Speaker 1: reject the premise. You know, Bill Bill Bill will never
- 38:34Speaker 1: come out and say, oh, whether it's a you know,
- 38:37Speaker 1: he doesn't want the players thinking about it, you know,
- 38:40Speaker 1: in terms of oh it's so hot, but you I
- 38:44Speaker 1: know that he makes them prepare for it. I know that, like,
- 38:48Speaker 1: all right, guys, we're going to Miami. It's gonna be hot,
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's gonna be humid. You've gotta hydrate, you gotta take
- 38:53Speaker 1: care of your bodies. I know he does that, so
- 38:56Speaker 1: he doesn't ignore it, you know, But it is unusual
- 38:59Speaker 1: that he's going down on a Tuesday for a Sunday game.
- 39:01Speaker 1: They've never done that before, unless it's no, they've never
- 39:04Speaker 1: done that before. Um, yeah, I agree, you know, And
- 39:08Speaker 1: they've gone down Friday for Friday, but never this early.
- 39:13Speaker 1: And you know, one of the things that you know,
- 39:15Speaker 1: the media really hasn't picked up on is that there's
- 39:18Speaker 1: this concert coming in and you know, I think maybe
- 39:21Speaker 1: Bill wanted to get them out of the stadium because
- 39:24Speaker 1: remember the Patriots train at the stadium, whereas other teams don't.
- 39:28Speaker 1: They have a separate facility, and I think he wanted
- 39:31Speaker 1: to get them out of here while there's a concert
- 39:34Speaker 1: going on with noise and sound checks and people going
- 39:37Speaker 1: through the tunnel setting up the stage and all that.
- 39:40Speaker 1: This is an opportunity, you know, and if it helps
- 39:43Speaker 1: us with the weather as well, well, that's an added
- 39:45Speaker 1: bonus or vice versa. If if if the you know,
- 39:48Speaker 1: getting ready for the weather, it gets us out of
- 39:50Speaker 1: the stadium, so we don't have to deal with the concert.
- 39:52Speaker 1: That's an added bonus. So I think he looked at
- 39:54Speaker 1: all that when the concert schedule came out in the
- 39:57Speaker 1: spring and said, let's do this. But it is funny.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I agree with Bill. It is because it's a contrast.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I think there's a contrast to that the weather and
- 40:04Speaker 1: the contrast to the whole comment that he made last
- 40:08Speaker 1: week about the September the beginning of the season being
- 40:11Speaker 1: an extension of the preseason. Like you and I, Fred
- 40:14Speaker 1: will remember when we had everybody that ever said the
- 40:17Speaker 1: word Patriots had to where a targeting September t shirt
- 40:20Speaker 1: back in OZ two in training camp at Bryan. You know,
- 40:23Speaker 1: it was a huge thing that like getting off to
- 40:24Speaker 1: a good start now in defensive Bill, I don't think
- 40:27Speaker 1: when he says September is an extension of the preseason,
- 40:31Speaker 1: he means I don't care if we win those games, right,
- 40:33Speaker 1: He means we're still working on what we're going to
- 40:36Speaker 1: be this season, because we're not a finished product when
- 40:39Speaker 1: we start the season. We still have to work. The
- 40:41Speaker 1: games are vitally important. There's the difference between making the
- 40:44Speaker 1: playoffs and not In some cases, well, I know, there's
- 40:48Speaker 1: no skipping steps in Bill's philosophy. Every step leads to
- 40:52Speaker 1: the next step, but there's no skipping any steps. So yes,
- 40:55Speaker 1: this is just an extension of the next step after
- 40:58Speaker 1: the preseason. But we're not going to get to November
- 41:01Speaker 1: before we get through September, and we're not getting you know,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I did find it interesting listening to you know, I
- 41:07Speaker 1: think Devin mccordy made the comment about I think an
- 41:10Speaker 1: EI about you know, there'd be times you're down there
- 41:13Speaker 1: and you get blasted in the pregame and it's like
- 41:17Speaker 1: ninety minute pre game and you're already spent. Like those
- 41:20Speaker 1: are a typical comments coming out of New England. But
- 41:23Speaker 1: to you a point, Yeah, you talk about the weather,
- 41:25Speaker 1: you give you give a team an excuse. Oftentimes they'll
- 41:28Speaker 1: take it. So and this to me is we've used
- 41:30Speaker 1: it up here when it's cold. This is an admisition
- 41:32Speaker 1: that the weather is a factor. Yeah, So I did
- 41:34Speaker 1: find that interesting. Go ahead, Bill, okay, And I mean,
- 41:39Speaker 1: if there's every year that you had to open with Miami,
- 41:42Speaker 1: this was the year to have a terrible weather for
- 41:45Speaker 1: training camp. Because we were there the week of that
- 41:47Speaker 1: first week of August and it was people were just
- 41:49Speaker 1: looking at us, going it's cooler in Oklahoma than it
- 41:52Speaker 1: is here. It was just ridiculous. So maybe that's a
- 41:54Speaker 1: maybe that's help a little bit. But we're also talking
- 41:57Speaker 1: in the months since then. Yeah, I remember they were
- 41:59Speaker 1: in Las Vegas last week or two weeks ago, so
- 42:01Speaker 1: that couldn't have hurt in terms of just being ready.
- 42:05Speaker 1: It is. It's a dry heat, I know, you know, yeah,
- 42:09Speaker 1: intense heat's been gone for a couple of weeks. Do
- 42:11Speaker 1: you worry it all about backfiring? Going down there? Early?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Guys get stale? Yeah, kind of. I think in the
- 42:17Speaker 1: Vegas trip, the Vegas in the Vegas trip, I think
- 42:21Speaker 1: by the time they got to the game itself, I
- 42:23Speaker 1: think guys were just played out. Yeah, you know, I
- 42:26Speaker 1: mean obviously different with the joint practices and the heat
- 42:29Speaker 1: out there, But I mean I like the decision. I
- 42:32Speaker 1: just you know, I don't want to say I don't
- 42:34Speaker 1: know a mission is right, but how can you ignore
- 42:36Speaker 1: their performances, you know, just coming off two games ago,
- 42:39Speaker 1: going down there with it all on the line. I
- 42:42Speaker 1: don't really like the decision because I don't really understand
- 42:45Speaker 1: why you need to do something so dramatically different. But
- 42:49Speaker 1: I don't think that's gonna be like it's not. I
- 42:51Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be the reason why they
- 42:52Speaker 1: lose or win. Like this is one of those things,
- 42:55Speaker 1: you know, if they win, oh, I know, at what's
- 42:59Speaker 1: gonna happen? I know every Wednesday work. I know you're
- 43:01Speaker 1: allowed to give the narratives before something happens. I'm not,
- 43:05Speaker 1: but that's okay. But you're a thousand percent right. If
- 43:08Speaker 1: they win, this is gonna be another notch in the
- 43:10Speaker 1: Belichick belt, like he's stepped chess checkers once again. Um,
- 43:18Speaker 1: but if they lose, no one's going to do the
- 43:21Speaker 1: other thing except for like the Felger and mask. Well
- 43:24Speaker 1: if they if they always go down there and one
- 43:26Speaker 1: and then they lose, it, say well why just switch
- 43:28Speaker 1: it up. But if they always lose and they lose,
- 43:31Speaker 1: now it would be like, well even that didn't work.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I don't think that they'll hold it against them that
- 43:35Speaker 1: they went down early, you know, I mean, it's you
- 43:37Speaker 1: try it, you give it a shot, you know. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I mean I just don't understand why, Like I don't know.
- 43:45Speaker 1: I just think, why wouldn't they ever do it before?
- 43:49Speaker 1: For any game. I get Miami for any game? Why,
- 43:52Speaker 1: Like why is I just think that you don't do that?
- 43:55Speaker 1: Because like why disrupt everything if you don't have to.
- 43:58Speaker 1: That's why I think it has more to do with
- 43:59Speaker 1: the content that you talked about anything else, because you
- 44:01Speaker 1: have to bring It's not just the players and coaches.
- 44:04Speaker 1: It's the film you know, working the film rooms, it's
- 44:07Speaker 1: the trainers, it's the you got to bring down your
- 44:10Speaker 1: whole operation. Um, you know, if you don't have to
- 44:15Speaker 1: do that, why I do it? You know? So? And
- 44:18Speaker 1: are you still able to prepare to your maximum effectiveness
- 44:22Speaker 1: as when you were in here? Does the whole operation
- 44:25Speaker 1: easily translate or there some things that you can't quite
- 44:28Speaker 1: bring down there or you know that you don't have
- 44:30Speaker 1: just because you have permanent cameras on the field here,
- 44:33Speaker 1: you know, things like that, you know what I mean,
- 44:34Speaker 1: like analytical things that you use that might not translate
- 44:37Speaker 1: down there. I wonder that And I do think there's
- 44:39Speaker 1: part like that, you know that they've gotten more into
- 44:42Speaker 1: you know, like we talked about the US the kid
- 44:45Speaker 1: from Detroit, Evan Rothstein. Yeah, uh, the more on the
- 44:48Speaker 1: analytical side and some of those things. I think that
- 44:50Speaker 1: Bill has been a little bit more willing to embrace.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I think that they've also done a lot more with
- 44:56Speaker 1: you know, the sports science side of it, and you know,
- 44:59Speaker 1: wh you see the players now, you know it's commonplace.
- 45:02Speaker 1: You don't even think anything of it. You see the
- 45:04Speaker 1: little GPS things at training camp, they're they're monitoring more.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I think Bill is using more of that information. Maybe
- 45:10Speaker 1: that's you know, you know, we're gonna hydrate, We're gonna
- 45:13Speaker 1: do this. We have to do this properly. In order
- 45:15Speaker 1: to get maximum performance, you need to spend X amount
- 45:19Speaker 1: of time. I think Bill has been more than willing
- 45:22Speaker 1: to accept some of that outside information and try to
- 45:27Speaker 1: incorporate it. As the years we ever play in Denver again,
- 45:29Speaker 1: we're gonna leave a month early. Am I kind of
- 45:33Speaker 1: my point? That's kind of my point, Like why all
- 45:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, am I remembering correctly? Didn't when Maddie
- 45:38Speaker 1: p was coaching the lines, didn't they have some kind
- 45:40Speaker 1: of like set up down in Miami that that like
- 45:42Speaker 1: were like sideline shades that they put up. I think
- 45:46Speaker 1: I gotta look at so I remember somebody did that. Yeah,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I think it was. That could be right, It could
- 45:51Speaker 1: be right. You know, but you're talking about during the game,
- 45:54Speaker 1: because yeah, I don't think you're allowed to do anything
- 45:56Speaker 1: in the game in the game that the other team
- 45:58Speaker 1: can't do or something like that, but they can though No,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I know, but you can't, like you would have had
- 46:03Speaker 1: to told Miami we're doing this. Yeah, but I mean
- 46:05Speaker 1: that's an easy fix with Mike is talking about it,
- 46:07Speaker 1: and I do kind of remember something like that. I
- 46:10Speaker 1: think I remember too, Yeah, detroitly, Yeah, it's not a
- 46:12Speaker 1: bad idea, handhealth canopies. And then Bill Belichick borrowed the
- 46:15Speaker 1: idea when they went down to Miami as well. Yeah,
- 46:19Speaker 1: it was it was we should just have the PR
- 46:24Speaker 1: the PR team whole paracels over over people you little
- 46:29Speaker 1: fans or tackle somebody. Oh wow, that would help. Like
- 46:32Speaker 1: you have to play better, especially like on you know,
- 46:35Speaker 1: last minute kickoff, and that's like like for me, if
- 46:40Speaker 1: they like if they go down early, you know, not
- 46:42Speaker 1: that my expectations would be different. But I just don't
- 46:45Speaker 1: beat yourself. Don't have the stupid mistakes that just showed.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Like if they eliminate that stuff and they lose, and
- 46:50Speaker 1: it's all right, they didn't play that sloppy. Probably previewing
- 46:52Speaker 1: the pre ship pregame show a little bit here, but
- 46:54Speaker 1: you know, like if you're gonna go down this early
- 46:56Speaker 1: and stress this kind of preparation, like you better play
- 46:59Speaker 1: a relatively clean game as far as I see it.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Let's go to Todd North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Hey guys.
- 47:06Speaker 1: So Trey on the other show the playbooks saying you
- 47:10Speaker 1: guys a little bit too negative for the season already?
- 47:13Speaker 1: Who said that? Trey for Memphis? Oh okay, all right,
- 47:18Speaker 1: So playing on that and the wonderful post that Douce
- 47:21Speaker 1: did about the five X factors, Let's turn to something positive.
- 47:24Speaker 1: How many positive do you think you need to have
- 47:27Speaker 1: a successful season this year? And I'll give you my answer.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I think we need about nine four pern offense, four
- 47:33Speaker 1: in defense, and one, you know, one special teams player
- 47:35Speaker 1: standing out. So if we can get a decent returner
- 47:37Speaker 1: or something I think that would be that would make
- 47:40Speaker 1: a successful Well I'll counter that if you have five
- 47:43Speaker 1: really negatives that'll counteract that was positives. You can you
- 47:47Speaker 1: need everyone playing well. You can't have one guy making
- 47:50Speaker 1: a mistake because that ruins the play. So yeah, I
- 47:53Speaker 1: don't know, like it's it's a very um metaphysical question
- 47:58Speaker 1: that you're asking here, Like, did you mean if you
- 48:04Speaker 1: just want to say that most of the team plays
- 48:06Speaker 1: decent and you've got how many you know, how many
- 48:09Speaker 1: positives do you need total from the team to win
- 48:13Speaker 1: the school one? Matt Jones, That's that's a good answer. Yeah,
- 48:19Speaker 1: you know, so everybody plays good, but you need get
- 48:22Speaker 1: four guys to play great, like really outstanding, Like yeah,
- 48:26Speaker 1: better than if everybody else plays good and you have
- 48:28Speaker 1: four guys play great, you're gonna win. Right, Yeah, you're
- 48:31Speaker 1: gonna okay, So there you go. You don't need four.
- 48:33Speaker 1: If everybody plays good and you got a couple of
- 48:35Speaker 1: guys play great, you're gonna win. Yeah, Like, no one
- 48:37Speaker 1: plays bad in this scenario, you're probably gonna win. So
- 48:42Speaker 1: Fred's point like, if you have four guys that play
- 48:44Speaker 1: great and five guys that stink, you're gonna lose, right,
- 48:46Speaker 1: or even if you have on a given play ten
- 48:49Speaker 1: guys play great. You guard back to Bill like, it's
- 48:52Speaker 1: you know what, that's something that's what when football great?
- 48:54Speaker 1: When Bill, you know, chastised us and said, you know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: I know you're all results oriented, but you could have
- 49:00Speaker 1: you know, eight or nine guys doing their job. You
- 49:02Speaker 1: get one or two that break down that can break
- 49:03Speaker 1: down the play absolutely right. Just like just like I
- 49:07Speaker 1: don't want to be results oriented when I talk about
- 49:11Speaker 1: if they go down on Tuesday and they win the game,
- 49:13Speaker 1: that that's very results oriented. So I'm not I'm not
- 49:16Speaker 1: ready to say that's the reason why you won the game. Listen,
- 49:19Speaker 1: if those four guys you say, Todd are playing great,
- 49:21Speaker 1: make our are all pros? Patriots are gonna have a
- 49:25Speaker 1: good season, you know if they I would love some
- 49:28Speaker 1: all pros, Thanks Todd. Yeah. Friends, Like it's very metaphysical,
- 49:34Speaker 1: like the philosophy Chris with a T, I A N.
- 49:37Speaker 1: What's up, Christian? Everybody doing good? How are you doing well?
- 49:45Speaker 1: If you want to play all right? Underwear overwear over
- 49:49Speaker 1: the amount of players needed to play at an all
- 49:52Speaker 1: pro level, Josh who say, think and a half sacked
- 50:00Speaker 1: over under in this game. I'm gonna take the over
- 50:04Speaker 1: on that. What do you have like five and a
- 50:06Speaker 1: half last year, Josh Oush, I'm gonna say over on that,
- 50:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna say under, I'll be positive, I'll go I'll
- 50:14Speaker 1: go over. I'm going out time to be in the
- 50:17Speaker 1: lone voice of positivity on this show, Christian Bomber are
- 50:21Speaker 1: sacked four and a half over under. I'm gonna take
- 50:26Speaker 1: the under on that one too. Yeah, he's not a
- 50:28Speaker 1: sack man. He makes other people better. He's gonna allow
- 50:30Speaker 1: others to get sacked. I'll buy that. I'll buy that,
- 50:34Speaker 1: all right. Jalen Mills picks three and a half over over. Ah,
- 50:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna go under. I don't think he's I think
- 50:45Speaker 1: he's a solid corner, I don't know if he's a
- 50:46Speaker 1: ball hawk though. All right. Offense, Smack Jones T D
- 50:51Speaker 1: passes twenty five over over. Yeah, I'll go over. Hopefully.
- 50:56Speaker 1: DeVante Parker TD catches eight. I'm gonna say under. I'll
- 51:02Speaker 1: say under only had three sacks last year, so I'll
- 51:05Speaker 1: still so I'll stick with you. I'm generally positive, so
- 51:08Speaker 1: i'll stick with you over. I'm gonna go eight on Parker.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I think he's yeah, Biggs target. I'll take the under
- 51:13Speaker 1: on that, right. Kendrick Bourne catches sixty five under under
- 51:20Speaker 1: after this camp, I'm not ruling him out, but basically
- 51:23Speaker 1: i'm gonna say Nixon takes a lot of his catch
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna say I'm gonna say over on the sixty five. Okay,
- 51:32Speaker 1: Damian Harris eleven hundred yards rushing under. I'll take the
- 51:36Speaker 1: under on that. Yeah, I'll take the under. And finally,
- 51:39Speaker 1: Trek Brown and Isaiah win combined starts twenty Conbine starts twenty. God,
- 51:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna go over, but I'm gonna say over. That's
- 51:49Speaker 1: just a little over twenty. Yeah. I'll take the over
- 51:51Speaker 1: on twenty. Yeah, but I don't know if I take
- 51:54Speaker 1: the over. Remember the seventeen games, now, twenty five might
- 51:57Speaker 1: change it for twenty out of thirty four, right, I'll
- 52:00Speaker 1: take four, right, No, all right, Christian, I'll talk to
- 52:06Speaker 1: you later. All right, We're gonna take a break pause

- 1:03:35Speaker 1: a lot of donkeys out there, and all of them
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: is an ass. You my friend one of them, who
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: was the nice gentleman that we met yesterday while I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: figured what his name was, but a fan of the show,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: fan of the show came up, came up to us
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: in the middle of us. Oh, yeah, you guys were
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: over at the between yesterday morning taping your first episode
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: of Patriots Unfiltered going on TV thirty eight. He came up.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: He was like are you Are you Paul Perilla? Of
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: course he is, and and he's like this is Mike,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: and I like Hi, how are you doing? And then
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: then like conversation regressing them. Paul was like, no, that's deuced,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: that's the oh Deuce, like he knew me as I
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: should say, I should say hello to Mike, and he
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: was like, hey, how you doing. I go, that's Deuce.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: He's like, douce, Like he didn't know Mike. He knew, Deuce. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I told you the Raiders story I had, right. So
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I'm at We're at the game for the preseason. After
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the game, I'm on the elevator. Elevator opens up. This
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: guy in like all Raiders gear, and you know, a
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: big camera comes on. He's obviously one of their in
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: game camera people, and he's like, PFW, you never never
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: missed a show, and like you listen, he goes, hey,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: they just pay me here. So that was good. They were.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: They were wonderful out there. Good conversation was the number
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: of Raiders employees. So the let's here the listener is
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: is largely accurate. Those were. That was an underrated bad stretch.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Two thousand and six, Maroni, Chad Jackson, Dave Thomas, Garrett Mills.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: First four picks, they got Gaskowski. You know, that's a
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: good thing, although I would say sign him as an
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: undrafted Murkie, Um, Ryan O'Callahan, Jeremy Mincy, Dan Stevenson, League
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Evans Smith, and Willie Andrews. So Mostowski is the only
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: productive member of that class. Oh seven, Brandon Merriweather, Kareem Brown,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Clint Oldenburg, Justin Rodgers, Mike Richardson, just East, Hairston, Corey Hilliard,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Oscar Lua and Mike Elgin. Wow. So really, Merryweather is
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: the only productive member of that class, And there you
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: could argue how productive he was not worth the first
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: two thousand and eight Gerard Mayo, Terrence Wheatley, Shawn Crable,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell, Jonathan Willhight, Matthew Slater, bo rude. So you
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: got Mayo and will Height was a productive player for them,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: and Slater obviously has been a stalwart. Again, I would say, Slater, Mike,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: where do you get those guys? Sign him as undrafted
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: creations didn't even have a position in college. So Mayo,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you know, Mayo makes because he was he was a
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: top ten pick. He was a good player. Two thousand
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: and nine, Patrick Chung, Ron Brace, Darius Butler, Sebastian Volmer,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Brandon Tate, Tyrone, Mackenzie, rich Enburger, George Bussey, Jake Ingram,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Myron Pryor, Julian Edelman, Darryl Richard. Well that was okay.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: This one's a little bit more now. This was also
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: a volume draft. So you get chung Um, Volmer excellent,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: and then you get Edelman down the end. Um So
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: that one's a little bit better, but that's four years
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: of man. Now who is in charge of the room then,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I mean, besides Bill, who was that Bill Belichick? I
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: know the guy, but who's in his ear? You know,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I don't know. Was Peoli's still here for part of that?
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: He was probably here six and seven. Did he go
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: on a eight with with Castle and all that with
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: his that after m Yeah, I think like, I think
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: it's an interesting study because I think it tracks to
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: what we're experiencing now. And then you look at like
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: O eight, nine, ten, that defense was turning over all
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: these older guys leaving. You can see the plan Merriweather
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Chung trying to replace Harrison and those back end guys.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: But then you look at like those nine and ten
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: teams where you were Derek Burgess or you know, somehow
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: you got Rob Nikovich, the you know, backup long snapper
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: from New Orleans emerged as a defensive end for you.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I just think that, you know, well, that's that's the six, seven,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: and eight. Poli was here for all three of those.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: That was last year was eight, Yeah, So I mean
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: I think it's just the tracks now when you look
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: at the fifteen sixteen, seventeen, those drafts, and then you
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: know it comes back to roost and then you're not
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: replacing the pipeline. And you know the defense was they
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: made the Super Bowl and eleven, but they were you know,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: probably among the worst defenses that that they've ever fielded
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: here in twenty even. I mean two things. Number One,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: I think we've seen that it doesn't really matter what
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: the other fifty two are when you have trading. But also,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: more importantly for this one and less snarky, is you
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: did have an excellent draft in ten. You know you
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: ended up getting mccordy, right, mccordy was that draft or
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: was that so you got mccordy, Gronk and Hernandez like right,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: they all were immediately good. Yeah, yeah, game changer. Let's
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: see Tony Wright saying, I wish the Patriots were one
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: of the top seven teams in the AFC, But objectively,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: I don't see how you can argue that. To contend
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: otherwise would involve a long list of ifs eight and
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: nine seems to be about the best we in Patriots
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Nation can hope for the team just doesn't have the
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: talent to contend. What worries me is that they will
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: be just good enough to draft fourteenth or fifteenth instead
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: of eighth or ninth. Yeah, I mean these people that
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: are you know, these lists come out, and these people
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: that are bemoaning the fact that the Patriots are behind
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: teams like the Colts in Miami. They have to prove
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: they're better before you can put them above that list. Now,
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: they might end up being this year better, but well,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: I mean, in particular with three and oh against the
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Patriots exactly, That's what I'm saying. So right now the
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Patriots are behind them and then oh, I thought you
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: were saying the other No, no, no, why I'm saying
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: they're better than the Patriots right now? The Patriots have
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: to prove right now. So like these preseason lists where
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: your pencil and the Patriots, you can't do that anymore.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: You have to base it on what they've done lately.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: And the Colts man handled them and they added Matt Ryan,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: right you know, and and now and Miami beat them twice,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: so like, how can you put the Patriots ahead of them?
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I'm hoping that you know those lists are wrong, but
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I could I mean, you could say, well, you know,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: despite losing to them, they finished with a better record
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: than them. Yeah, but I understand and what you're saying. Yeah,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I think that if I had to say, gun to
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: my head, what the better team is, what the better
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: roster is, I would say both the Colts in Miami
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: have more talent. But I don't think those two are
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: egregious if a Patriots fan wants to tell me why
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: they're better than what coaching largely. Okay, so last year
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Flores was that much better than Bill. No, I'm just
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: saying that's that's your argument, I know, But like I'm
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: trying to be Devil's advocate on the Patriots side. No,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: I know you aren't. But I know it's like you know,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and and I'm always doing. I'm always a glass half
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: full Sunshine dot Com guy when it comes to the Patriots.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: But even I have to admit right now the Patriots
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: are improve it mode. I mean, do you think Mac
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Jones is better than Tuah? I don't know. See, I
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: think you can make an argument Mac Jones is better
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: than Tuah. I think. I don't think you have to
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: like twist yourself into a not to do that. I mean,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: typically I can say that. I think I think Mac
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Jones is going to be better than Tuah. I think
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Two is more in tune with what his offensive system
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: is and who he is as a pro, even given
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: his warts, which he certainly has. I just I think
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: he is probably at this point much more comfortable in
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: what they're doing and what they want to do than Macie.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: And I don't even mean that as a slight to
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: like the offensive turnover. It's just seems like the Patriots
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: are kind of still trying to figure out what they do,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and too sounds like he knows what he can do.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: That's the thing like in this game, in this particular game,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: it might look like Two was the better quarterback, even
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: though long long range maybe Mac ends up being better.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: But well, I mean I think that they're in very
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: similar spots in their careers. Yeah, I mean, I know
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: that Two has been in the league a year longer,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: he hasn't really played that many more games because of injuries.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: If Tua looks better on Sunday, it's time for people
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: like me to stop saying how much better Mac is
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: than Tah. Yeah. Uh, let's go to the A sticket
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: hot line five five five hundred, Shawn's in Vancouver. What's up, Sean,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I'm wondering about the active roster. I heard that the
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Bourdon was put on a short term. I r on
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: the first and is there's someone the Patriots of too
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: take that fifty thirds to pump? Not yet? Not yet.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I mean they can they can promote somebody for sure,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: but I think they still have an open spot. So
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: maybe one of those one of those receivers that they have,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: like Little Jordan or Nixon or somebody might get bumped. Right. Okay, thanks, well,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: I have a great one to speak to Thursday. Okay, wow,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: thanks short and sweet. It's a quick question from Sean.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: How about Nick and Manchester Metaphysical? What's up Nick? It's Manchester, UK,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: by the way. Hi guys, Hello, Um, I'm looking at
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: the sad jill that we've got in the initial four
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: week first four week? Do we get out one and three,
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: two and two? Maybe I would take two and two
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: if they could somehow get it. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: it'll be easy. Yeah, I'd take four and oath. I
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: mean it's a it's a great it's a great first
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: four test. I really do you get different types of teams? Yep? Yeah,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: if we can get into that week five, maybe two
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: and two or one and three. I can rarely see
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: us going week five through twelve with maybe only the cults.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: But you know, listen, if we come out of the
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: first four two and two, I'm gonna be happy. Yeah,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna be happy. I'm gonna be like, Okay, we
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: can compete. It's the only thing that I'm gonna say
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: is I'm not gonna look at games against teams like
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: you know right now things can change based on what
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: I see the first month, But I'm not gonna look
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: at games against teams like Detroit and say there's no
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: way they can lose that game. Oh, I'm not gonna
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: say that, right like I would, you know, against the
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Jets or against Jacksonville, like I can change if they
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: go out and they go three and one and these
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: like I think, to me, the the at Green Bay
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: game is the one that stands out, is like, that's
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: gonna be really tough to win. Okay, the Miami and
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Pittsburgh games against comparable teams as you, you should have
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: a chance to win those games. Right, Baltimore at home,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: maybe you have a chance to win that game too.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I think they're better than you, But at home. You
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: should have a chance to compete home opener. You get that,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you know, especially if they have some success in the
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: first two weeks. But Green Bay is the one that
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: really stands out. The real test to me is late
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: in the year when it's Buffalo twice in Cincinnati. You
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: know those teams, you know, the Raiders, the car you know,
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: the Raiders, Cardinals Trip. Yeah, you could's gonna be tough.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: You could see a little bit of a repeat the
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: last year, and that some of those games in the
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: middle you mentioned the Lions, thinks and the Lions and
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Bears and Browns, you know that little chunk. You know,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: if they're able to hold the fort here and go
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: two and two, say in the middle, three and one whatever.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: But you know, and then you beat those bad teams
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and then you get to the bye week and maybe
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: maybe you knock off. If they go three and one,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: then that's different because now we're looking at the team
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: much different than we thought they were. But I would
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: look at that and say, last year they went seven
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: to o win that stretch. I don't see that happening
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: this year against those teams even and Mike is right,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: you know, Chica, I think it's Detroit, Chicago, the Jets,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns. I don't think they'll win all four of
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: those games. I don't could this year's Patriots team beat
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: last year's Patriots team? I think I think the question
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: for that is at the end of the year, like
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: can the end of the year year, Well, at the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: end of the year, they could, because they were playing
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: terrible right now. I don't think they would have beaten
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: the team that played like the Chargers. Yeah, but if
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: you want to say they worst game, I don't know.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: They played Buffalo. I don't know. I don't know for
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: different reasons. I think last year's team constunk and I
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: think this year's team has I don't think there is
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: talented on paper as they were last year. Yeah, I
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. I think the offense has
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: a chance to be better because of natural progression. It's
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: mostly the same guys in the second year in the system. Yeah,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: I know that they I know they have Davante Adams.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: They have they Now everybody goes into a slot like
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: do you think the other team is looking at DeVante
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Parker and like saying, well that that that's the guy
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: we got to take out of the game. No, but
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I think that he's an added element they didn't have.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: I think he's better, that's correct. Yeah, he's better than
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: the kill Harry something. So that makes them the other
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: the others are back, and he's better than Harry. That's
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: why I just think, Like for me, people are always like,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: what's your prediction, how do you think it's gonna Like
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: just the thing that I just need is for them
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: to improve and to be playing their best football at
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: the end of the year. And if they don't make
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: the playoffs, but they they feel like they've found something,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: they're on track and it's gotten better, I'll feel like,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: all right, maybe we have something here that we can
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: build off of. If it happens again where they put
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: in this whole new offense, they go a whole season
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: and again it all just falls on its face the
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: last four games. And that's for four seasons. The end
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the season saying can you do If you end the
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: season and it's evident that if we just add this,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: this and this will be a contender, then that's where
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: you want to What do you say, Hey, we got
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: some cap space, we're gonna you know, we're gonna let
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Agalore go. Now, he's his contracts up. Let's you know,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: rejigger some of it here and there. Well, you know,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I mean you'll have stuff to You'll have some money
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: next year, right like you'll have some You have money.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: You know, we'll see if they spend it, but you
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: have it. See if Bill wants to, you know, give
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: out a contract to somebody with ability, all right to
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: go against him? Thanks for the call, um, John from
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: where is he from? Wisconsin? Why should I be excited
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: for the game on Sunday? He asks you, guys, the
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: first game of the season. If you're not excited, now,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: what do we do? You guys started off the show
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: saying you don't know what to expect, but then have
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: spent the whole next half hour saying how behind the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Patriots are compared to Miami, how slow and small the
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: defense is, and how our offense might look worse than
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: it did under Cam. Can we stop that for a second.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I've said that I want to attack these things. No
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: one ever said the Patriots are slow. No, the Patriots,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: I think Bill Belichick worked really hard to improve the
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: was when you're trying to stop the run and you've
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: been playing small to stop the pass correct what happens
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: when you do that, But that's the same with speed. Yeah,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: that has you are putting words in our mouth, Johnny,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: and I also I don't, I don't recall, and you
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: correct me, Mike, because you remember this stuff. Did anybody
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: say Miami's way ahead of the Patriots? No, like he
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: spent that. I said, I said, based on last year,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: you couldn't put them ahead on a list. But it's close,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: and I'm hope by wrong. But he says, so please
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: give me a glimmer of hope here, gentlemen, Why should
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I be hopeful and watch on Sunday? You really just
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: not watch football after like spending the whole offseason. You're
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: just your own depression. Well, I think I'm not even
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: gonna watch it, of course not. And I know he's exaggerating.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: I'm not necessarily ripping apart everywhere. But I the one
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: thing that does kind of bug me when people do
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: these things, because yeah, sometimes we can say I don't know,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Miami looks like that better, and that can be portrayed
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: as being negative. Okay, I get that, but no one
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: ever said Miami's way ahead of the Patriots. No one
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: ever said the Patriots are slow, Like, these are things
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: that the three of us never said during the first
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: hour and twenty minutes here. So sometimes we just said
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: me in particular, I say a lot of dumb things.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: I'm snarky at times. Sometimes I just like exaggerate to
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: make a point, so I says some things that can
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: come back and haunt me. I never said those things.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I say enough stupid things. I didn't say that they
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: were slow. My thing is, I started the show saying,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: I'm excited. I don't know what I've been seeing all preseason.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: I'm hoping that what I'm seeing is just preseason. It's
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: just not going to be the same once the games
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: start and they start game planning for teams and matching
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: up and all that stuff, and we see something totally
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: different than, you know, what we saw most of the summer,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: like a glimmer of hope. What if, you know, and
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: obviously both teams are game playing teams. Bill talked about
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: that a little bit this week too, But what if
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: the Patriots come out in their game plan just completely
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: catches Miami off guard and it works. And on the
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: flip side, whatever Miami sides to attack the Patriots with
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: is something the Patriots were absolutely expecting and their defensive
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: game plan is perfect for it, right like and they will.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Belichick has done that a million times in his career. Yeah,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: you know, you know what I'm saying, Like a reason,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: you know, a glimmer of hope. You have the best
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: coach ever right formulating the game plan heading into the opener.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: That's the glimmer of hope for me, it is, And
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: I mean I think you're just you're so used to
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: being AFC championship or bust and it's it's all gonna
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: definitely work out. Like there's an element unknown this year
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: for sure, and everything that we said were facts, like
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Miami's performance against the Patriots in recent games, those are facts.
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: That's not my opinion that Miami kicked their ass last
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: year in Week eighteen like they did. So it's just
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: being realistic about, you know, what they have to overcome,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: and I think that they anybody. I think at this
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: point of the preseason, you put down all these narratives
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: and everything that you've come to believe about what's going
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: to happen, and you just let it happen and see
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: because it's going to be different than what any of
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: us are perfect. Yeah, it's gonna be things in there.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Like you said, Deuce, You're gonna be pointing at the team.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: It's like, I didn't expect that, I know, right, that's
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I mean. I just think there's thirty two teams out
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: there and they have varying degrees of expectations. But I
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: would I would hope the pure fans of all thirty
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: two teams are excited to finally you know, watch to me,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: I didn't expect will be this success. Like I'm expecting
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: them to try to run the ball, but they haven't
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: done it really well. So if, like reminder, Stevenson runs
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: for one hundred and thirty yards and averages like five
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: yards to carry, I'm not expecting that, right, But I'm
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: expecting the Patriots to run the ball better than they
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: did in the preseason. And I actually gave them the
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: edge when they run the ball because I just can't
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: imagine they're going to be as bad running the football.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: This is what they did best last year. I can't
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: imagine they're going to be that bad running the football
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: when it when it counts Skyland Schenectady, I was worried
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: about the durability of Tykewon Thornton. So I started watching
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: clips of his of the play he got injured on,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: and I can't help but noticing that, despite the swarm
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: of Panthers players, is cold strange tackling the pile at
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: the end that makes the play look brutal. I normally
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: do not pay attention to O line play, but should have.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: But should he have been anywhere near that play let
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: alone taking the pile to the ground. I've noticed that too,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: A cold strange. He's definitely late guy into the scrum
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: and it's gonna get penalties. Yeah, what's gonna happen. It's
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: it's a little little loosey goosey, I think, but he
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: certainly plays with a little bit of a little bit
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: of that edge that you like Russell and Arkansaw. Since
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: they created a little more cap space with the John
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: New contract restructure thing, could we see a veteran receiver
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: get brought in like ob J or someone else. I
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: only use ob J because I think you could get
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: him on a one year deal for pretty cheap. Also,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: was catching up to the show on Friday and forgot
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: that I wasn't listening live, and I sent like three
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: emails pertaining to the show. Yes, I felt like a
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: real Dumbassum. I don't I would be surprised with Obi
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: ja Um. I know there was a report this week
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: about the Rams and they're doing like the the Patriots
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: thing like they have. His locker was all intact in
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: la Um. But the um who was the first part
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: of that cap space the cap space JOHNU. Smith? What
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: did you feel about the John O. Smith move in general?
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: I'm just curious what you guys thought of it. I
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: want to see if if I'm missing something. But they
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: basically Fred they converted you know, paragraph five said his
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: base salary, they converted to bonus. So he gets it
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: up front. The Patriots are able to spread the cap
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: hit or you know, you know a little bit. It
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: gives him cap space. Just another cap clarice, bookkeeping. It's claric,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: it's a clarticle. It's not Okay, do you think it
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: has anything to do with anything in the future. It's
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: giving you more cap relief for the season. Well yeah, yeah, right,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: it's like making us a little bit more flexible in
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: case something does come about. Okay, So I saw and
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: again I hate when I forget who did it, because
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I don't get to blame slash credit somebody. This is
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: a clear sign that it's not just about this year.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: It's about you know, Bills invested in the future of
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: this team too. And I'm like, now, by raising the
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: cap number of a guy who's probably if he doesn't
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: play well this year, not going to be part of
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: your future, it's not planning for the future. No, Yeah,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: this was you need more cash flow in the event
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: that you need the money this year injuries, transactions, whatnot.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I didn't even see it as an atta boy to
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Smith to give it no, like I know, I just
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: saw it as like he doesn't get anything out of
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: it except for that he gets the money up front.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: That's it, right, right, It's it's you know they did
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: you know, that's why it's good for the player. Yeah,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: as much talk about like you know, Brady taking less that,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: they did that a lot with Brady too. They gave
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: him more money up front and extended his coming. Yeah,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: those are much bigger. You got thirty million up front.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: But that's just like, it's just this is when we
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: talk about the cap being crap, Like you can always
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: find one of these contracts and if you're willing to
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: bump the cap space a little bit, move a little
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: money up. I saw a chart. I think it was
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: the guy Jason there for over the cap. I think
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: I saw him um and he had the list of
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: cap space available. You remember some of those numbers the
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Patriots were like twenty ninth. They're up to like eighth,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: eighth or ninth, just like that, just by making moves
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: on a napkin. As Felger likes to say, Um, Neil
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: from New Brunswick, Well, it's that time of year where
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: we have to go out on a limb and make
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: a prediction. I hope I'm way off, but I'm going
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: to predict six and eleven. I personally have said many
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: times I don't have confidence in GM Bill. I think
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: this is the year GM Bill's performance finally catches up
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: with Coach Bill. It could be a long season for
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: you guys, dealing with increasing frustrated fans. I love to
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: hear what other callers and emailers, and also what our
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: hosts believe our final record will be. Nobody's willing to
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: go below six, That's what I found. No predictions willing
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: to go No one's willing to go to five. I'm
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: gonna go nine and eight. I'm still just kind of
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: sticking right there. I think they'll fall just short of
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: the playoffs. I think like eight, I could see, I
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: could see nine. Best case scenario, I'll go eight something.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: I mean I said early and I'm sticking with it
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: because I haven't seen anything to move me off this
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: spot eight and nine, you know, but I can you
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: know after week four I'll adjust that again up or down.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: Let's see Philippe from Brazil. After all the summer training
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: and joint practices, something caught my eye. Almost every single
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: team in the league has a star slash powerhouse in
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: at least one position. Do you have any idea when
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: will have a top player in any position? Again, anyone
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: within the roster with that potential, I don't quite see it,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: even with our best young players like bomb War who
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: was far behind the likes of Aaron Donald. To be honest,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: we had j. C. Jackson last year, but as soon
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: as he was good, he was out the door and
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: put please do not put Jake Bailey on that. I mean,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: it's there's no question they need they need star players,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: they need playmakers, they need new guys that are going
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: to step up but i'd also, you know, compare it
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: to back when we're talking about nine ten. All of
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: a sudden you get gron Hernandez mccordy. A couple years later,
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: you get Chandler Jones and Dante Hi time. You know,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: it can happen quick if you get those players. But
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: I mean, who has potential? I mean, I think you know,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: he mentioned Bomber, Bomber has the potential. I think Dugger
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: has the potential to be a real strong safety in
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: this league, like a real star. I'm sure. I'm not sure. Okay,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I think he's I think he'll be fine, but I'm
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: not sure he has the potential to be the best
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: in the league. At that point, I didn't say the best. Well,
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: that's what you're looking for, a powerhouse at that position. Okay,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Like he said, Barmore is really good, but he doesn't
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: see he's so asked well behind Aaron Donald, So you're
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: comparing him to the very best in the league. To
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Mike's point, Gronk two years into his career was among
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: the very best, if not the very best, tight end.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: Ye right away? Ye, Like, that's what you're looking for.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: And I think Mike makes a good point. That's how
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: you have to do it. You have to you have
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: to find these these guys and they have to pan
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: out in the draft because I'm very skeptical that they're
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: going to go out. Look, they did it with Stefan Gilmour,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: like they identified a guy in the market, Bill gave
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: him a boatload of money, brought him in and he
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: immediately was in. That that conversation is one of the
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: best three corners in football. Not many others of those
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: where you went out and you spent a boatload of
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: money on a guy that everybody wanted and you set
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: the market like, there's just not that many examps. They've
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: spent money in free agency. I'm not saying they don't.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: They do, But I'm talking about if Davante Adams was
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: available next year and you lost say Born aglor and Myers.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Do you think the Patriots would go out and do
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: what they what the Raiders did for Davante Adams. I
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: wish they would. No, that's what like to get that
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: kind of player, I think a power A power. No,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: I didn't, I didn't say that. You had to say
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: with absolute said do you think they would do that?
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: My guess is they wouldn't. I don't think Bill believes
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: in it, especially at positions like that. Yeah, I think that,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: like if T. J. Watt were available next year, are
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: they going to give him one hundred and twenty million
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: dollar contract? Like? And I know that I'm just using
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: is I'm not talking about practicality. I'm trying to target
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: the best player in the league at a position is
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: available to anybody, and you're gonna outbid everybody. I don't
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: think Bill does that very often. He did it with
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: with Gilmore. He was a great cornerback in Buffalo. He
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: was a really good cornerback in Buffalo. I thought he
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: became a great one here with Bill coaching him. To
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: be honest with you, but he I mean, there was
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: a lot of money. That was a big free agent
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: contract at the time. He was the highest paid corner
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: in football when Bill signed him. So I'm not going
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: to tell you he'll never do it, because he has.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: He did it with A Dalis Thomas, although I don't
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: think A Dalis Thomas was ever that player. Right. Well,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: It's it's interesting, Paul, because I would you know in
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: those in those instances, you could say, well, they had
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Brady and they were a player away, correct, because they're
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: not a player away right now? Correct. It's like, how
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: do you do it? How do you You don't really
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: know Bill outside of this, Like you know, can he
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: go and get a tent pole guy? Because if you
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: were going to do it, it probably would have been
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: in that group in twenty twenty one when you went
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: out and got that huge class, and those guys weren't
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: tent pole guys. Even if you convinced yourself that John
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: they signed. They signed some good players for good money
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and but with no competition that year, correct, it was
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: it was they didn't really have to. I mean all
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: that commissions were favorable by it ends too like they
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: gave a lot of money too, But like would they
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: do you know, do you think they would win a
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: bidding war for like George Kittle, you know if he
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: was at the same time, if I'm advising Bill, I'm
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: gonna say you're seventy, go spend the money and get
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: the guy, like you don't have time to draft, you know,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: Like so I I'm the king of the capta, I
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: would absolutely I would do that in a blink. But
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: if you I would go out and get the best players.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: But if you're serious about the like the Shula thing
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: and all that stuff, like like there's no other choice,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: Like you have to go do it. You can't sit
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: around and wait for Taekwon Thornton in year four to bump.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: And you know, like I think the other the other
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: part of that is, and we're two years away from this,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: but what do you think mac Jones is gonna get?
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: And do you think Bill Belichick is gonna want to
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: give it to him? Because if if he turned, let's
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: let's just say he has a year this year and
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: a year next year that are the logical a little better,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: a little better. So he makes a grat I'm not
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: talking he explodes. I'm talking he's gradually improved. After year three,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: he's gonna want a contract, right, and that contract is
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: going to be in the ballpark of thirty five million
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: dollars a year. And I'm just talking about he's good,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: if he's great, bump that number up. Do you think
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: Bill wants to do that? No? But I'm thinking I
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: have a feeling that Mack will take whatever they offer
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: because I think the opposite, I think the total opposite.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I'm watching mac Jones do press conferences and having to
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: talk about his coaches constantly, and I think he's thinking
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: to himself, price is going up, baby, price is going
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: up every day. That's the way I look at it.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: You're gonna give me another contract. Absolutely? Absolutely. I don't
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: need to see the night. It's so funny how we
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: look at the same thing and have such a different opinion. Stuff. Okay,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: I know, well, I just look at Mac. I don't
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: know they coaches. I don't think quarterbacks should have to
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: like compliment their coaches for staying until two o'clock in
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: the morning and working really hard and and being brilliant
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: and stuff. I don't think you should have to do
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: that as a coach as a quarterback, especially a young one.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: And if I were him, I would say, yeah, I'll
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: do it. I'll do this. You want to give me
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator calling plays, I'll do it. It's gonna
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: cost you, though, I can go somewhere with a guy
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: who actually coaches offense is calling the plays for me.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: David and Maine says, help us, Mac Jones, Kenobi, you're
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: our only hope. That's a Star Wars reference. Paul. Thanks.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Greg Badard was on one of Paul's shows and made
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: the statement that mac Jones has actually regressed since last
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: year and went over his completion percentages from this year
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: and last year. My understanding is that the new offense,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: O line and offensive masterminds the question in the back
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: coaching him played a game, yet coaching him maybe the
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: issue what do the PU guys say, and is this
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: new offense helping or hurting our young quarterback? That's a
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: tough one and stuff. I mean, I don't know if
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: he took like last year's preseason completion and compared it
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: to this year's preseason yeah, I mean, I think he
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: looked a little more comfortable last year. I think though
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: this year, what we've seen him do, they've been moving
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: him outside of that comfort zone a little bit. But
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: when they go spread and stuff, I think it looks
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: largely similar. I point to the fourth drive against the
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Raiders that you know, Max seemed like, all right, he
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: kind of feels like, you know, let's see what it
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: looks like when Matt can get up there and they're
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: playing in his strengths and they have he has some
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: freedom at the line to adjust the calls and not
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: you know, run right into the teeth of the defense
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: just to get an outside zone rep. So I agree
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: generally with the point, but it's hard to talk about
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: the stats. And he also just look, they're trying to
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: do something new. They've been telling us all summer. We've
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: been talking about it all summer. So I do give
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: him a little bit of leeway as far as you know,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: again for the fiftieth time, with the hope that we're
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: hitting the reset button and it is going to get
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: better as the season progresses. Johnny Wisconsin wants to defend
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: him back in. He says, so when you mentioned Hill
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: and Monstt and Waddle and the rest of Miami's offense
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: and then said what are we going to do to
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: stop them? That wasn't putting Miami ahead of the Patriots.
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: Well what else do we gonna say? No, it's not
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: saying that Miami is miles that you said miles ahead
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: of the Patriots, well even even ahead like when yeah,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: when you're analyzing the other team and they have like
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: weapons like that, and then you ask the question, how
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: are they going to stop them? I mean that's the
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: logical question, and we're actually saying not like, oh my god,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: how are they going to stop them? No, we're asking
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: the question what are they going to do? How do
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: we think they're gonna go about trying to stop that?
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: And then we talked about using zone and all that stuff,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: and we pondered, do you go after Tua? I think
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Fred you've said that, do you try to apply more pressure?
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: And Mike you had the numbers get based on history?
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Probably not? Probably not. They're gonna have to rely on
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Jude On and maybe Anthony Jennings Oochay Barmore to collapse
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: the pocket. They're gonna need the guys up front to
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: win battles. But it's not like, oh my god, how
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: are we going to do this? It's no physical like literally,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: how are they going to do it? What are they
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: going to try? But there's just how how can you
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: not look at that Miami offense and be impressed with
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: their speed and wonder how do you how do you
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: deal with that speed? And that's such a buzz point.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: How do we get our speed on defense? How do
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: you get that speed on the field? You drafted Marcus Jones,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: you drafted Jack Jones. Quick, guys, you still have a
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: bunch of safeties, you still have some big uh you
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: know linebackers. Does Mac Wilson get involved. Those are those
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: are the questions they're asking. That's what I find interested.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Let's get Oh, by the way, what do you think
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: of the Patriots not touching High Towers locker? I I
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: but it's just empty, right, Yeah, it's just empty. Yeah,
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: they haven't moved anyone in there. No. Yeah, I'm not
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: really no, I'm not a big like I don't know.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong. I think that the reports in LA
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: were like his locker is intact with his name. Yeah,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: like it's all like that's not the case. But maybe
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe it's like
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: that to me would be the difference, like, well, why
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: did you say that? Like it's a big deal for
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: the It's not a big deal first of all for
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: the Rams until they sign him. But they think he's
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: going to be back and like late in the year,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: so they're gonna wait to sign him. That's how I
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: look at the Rams thing. He's coming off an injury.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: High Towers, High Towers not playing. I don't really get it, Like,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: I mean, oh, it's a like a tribute, like does
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: he give ah that is locker isn't like no one's
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: in I think and listen. We left your cube open, Paul.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: I think we are left we we we get so
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: little concrete information that we're left to sort of like
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: interpret a lot of stuff. I think that locker has
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: become something that it really like. I don't understand why.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: I can tell you there's been different guys in different
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: spots in the locker room who have run the locker
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: room over the years, and for some reason, that locker
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: right next to the door is considered one of those spots.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Fred will tell you. You know, there were times when
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: McGinnis was in the middle row. Yeah, when he was
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: when he was squawking at Bethel Johnson like you've done already,
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: you know that kind of stuff. He wasn't at that locker.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: Now McGinnis spent time down there too. Like I think,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: guys have moved around the locker room and it's not
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: necessarily that spot, right, it's another one. It becomes spot
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: and there's always been a guy and you can't leave
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: with Like Teddy Bruski was on the other side of
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: that door. It was Teddy Bruski, not the spot in
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: the locker room. You know, That's what that's what made
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: the spot. Yeah, and that spot doesn't make the player,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: and high Tower has made the spot. I think Mayo
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: was down there too. Those were first of all if
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: you figure out they're all the same because they go
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: by number and that's where the numbers fall. And those
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: are guys that are were leaders, Mayo, Bruski, Vrabel Mcguinnis
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: they all they all had control of the locker room.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's necessarily because of the spot, as
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: it is the players that actually occupied the spot, Linebackers,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: the bomb Spies and Fresno down there too. To be fair,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: I am looking at this like, oh my god, how
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: are we going to stop them? But I mean I
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: think I think the only I need the answer that
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: is kind of like what two is going to do
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: to help us out? Yes, I think that's part of it. Like,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: and that's why I said, if if two has another
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: game against the Patriots, it's time to stop telling everybody
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: how much better your guy is than their guy. I
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: think mac Jones is better than Tua I do. I
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: think he's bigger. I think he has a little bit
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: better of an arm, and I think he has more
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: of an aptitude to play the position. But it hasn't
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: shown up on the field that I look at that
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: more in terms of the limit patients to two, like
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: you were saying, because two is smaller more than like
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Max bigger, but at the same point the other way around.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: UM right, I don't know, Well, I don't know what
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: MAC is. I don't know what MAC is, and I'm
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: kind of halfway excited to find out this season. But
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I'm more like a friend of mine was saying, Hey,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: we can do the X, Y, and Z in order
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: to make the playoffs this year, and I was like,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: you know something, last three years they've cluttered to the end.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: I don't care, Like I don't want to get into
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: the I mean, we can win your way in and
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: then lose your way out of the first round. And
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: I guess that's something, but I want I'd much rather
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: not make it to the playoffs to see some sort
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: of robust and my sent a growth like especially stopping
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: the run, Max being able to perform in the red zone.
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: Let's see that stuff. Forget the playoffs. Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I don't look at making the playoffs as a negative though,
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: Like if they won ten won ten games again and
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: made the playoffs, wouldn't that be a good thing, of course. Yeah, absolutely,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: But like I think that's what they like limp in again,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: they like start out, especially with this schedule. Yeah, absolutely no,
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: but like, yeah, you know, it's like you you had
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: made a comment earlier, Mike, and I'm I'm gonna I'm
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: being literal here and like going with semantics, but you
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: were talking about how like if they're playing better at
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: the end and they fall short of the playoffs whatever,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: that would be good. But like you know, let's say
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: they jump out of the gates, you know, two and
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: nine and then they finished strong, like it's not like
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: this like whole new team and they finally put it
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: together down the stretch. No, I think that would be
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: a bad year. I think that would be a bad year.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: It's not like Drew Bledsoe's rookie year where they had
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: no talent at all and they were one and eleven
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: and won the last four and you're like, oh, I
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: could see something. I could see something brewing here. Yeah,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: you know, to me, it would just be another example
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: like well, when they were out of it, then they
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: started winning games. It's just it's so hard to put
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: into a box already when you're gonna have injuries. Other
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: teams are gonna have injuries. It's like even last year
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: the win streak. We know all the qualifiers to that
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: win streak, whereas you know before this season, well they're
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: gonna have a seven game win streak in the middle
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: of the ball. That's gotta be good, right, How could
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: that be bad? Well, you know in retrospect doesn't quite
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: look as good. But you know, I just, I mean,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: just to go back a point, I thought of Paul
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: when you mentioned, you know, two of versus Mac. It's like,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I don't even really care about two of versus Mac.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: I just look at this like coaching staff, and you
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: haven't really found any answers for your divisional opponents. And
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: I just like, to me, I could care less, like
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: who ranks Mac where versus anybody else? Like, but if
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: you have no ability to like counter what you're seeing
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: on offense, then like what are we doing, Like what
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: are we grasping onto thinking that like we have, you know,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: the ability to morph and shut down different offenses. It's
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: like until you put together a game plan where TA
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: is like looks befuddled. And I mean, and I don't
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: think that that's that heart of a deal. Again, I
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: just think that that's about playing good, solid defense. And
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: he hasn't torn up. He's just been effective and kept
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the offensive schedule. But until you go out against Buffalo
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: and wow, all right, we're starting to find something where
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: we can at least be competitive here. You know, it's
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: just it hasn't been competitive when you've gone straight up
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: against Josh Allen the last few times. You know, of
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: course the win game outstanding that that to me is
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: the bigger issue. How can this team find a way
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: to stop these offenses in the division. Let's go to
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: William and Philham on the ace ticket hut line. What's
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: up William? Hey for it? How are you doing good?
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: All right? I just want to figure bank off of
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: what Paul said. Just want to throw two names out
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: there for next year. And I think this was one
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: of the things I wanted to ask Patures on Filter
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: during the off season. Look, because Paul was talking about
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: it basically in terms of what Bill spin and what
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: would he go get, you know, in terms of talent
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: and whatnot. So okay, so let me ask you a question,
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: and Paul, so, will do you think Bill will go trade? Uh?
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: Go talk to the founcas in trade because Cameron Ridley
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: comes back in that year and get him to or
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: either that's the kind of move that he would mat Yeah,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: no money, no risk, you know, I can get him
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: on my you know he's out of football. Yeah, Like
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: I'm talking about getting one of the best players and
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: straight up everybody, everybody wants him, and he chose you
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: because you gave him the moment Ebo Samuel, So basically
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: so something might so say, can we say something like
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: this and this is kind of basically true. Basically like
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: there's a person that's next year but he's unrestricted up,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: but you wanted to talk to the boy year nineer
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: and that's Nick boz It. His contract is up. Yeah,
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I think this will I think this is like and
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: pay your money. I think this very very little chance
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: of that he's going to be like one hundred and
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: twenty million dollar player in the open market. And I
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: just can't imagine you you went a bidding war, right right?
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: And h my last my last question that I wonder, well, Patrees,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: don't folks to ever get mister Robert Kraft on the
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: show and just ask him, you know, just ask him
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: what does he expect from the team. Or you know,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: and if they don't make whatever whatever he expect me, Hey,
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: don't And if it doesn't happen, what you're going to do, Maddy?
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: And I'll leave it at that, John, all right, thankfully.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: So the Fake Curse Show will be returning after after
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: a break. Um, what you're gonna do about it? Are
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: you prepared to do something about that? I'll hang up
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: and listen. Suddenly my key card doesn't work, mister craft.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Do you know anything about that? Yeah, we've had Jonathan
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: on the show before, but not for not for years
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: and year and we I think we had Robert on
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: the show once. Definitely at the super Bowl. Yeah, oh yes,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: definitely at the Super bowls. That a lot of like
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: live shows during the days leading up to the Super Bowl,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: like on Radio Row and stuff. Was that you guys
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: were like our own shows. We did our shows just
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: like this. We weren't on Radio Row. We would do
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: We don't go from Radius, Yeah, we don't. We don't
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: go with it. We don't mix with please. No, we
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: have the original podcast. Correct. Uh, let's see Jack and
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: annaba Um. He says, I'm excited about the Patriots opening
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: game against Miami. The Patriots have an improved team with
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: a potentially dominant defense, ten rookies who will inject speed
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: and talent into the team, and a young, talented quarterback.
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: I'm ready for some football, and I'm optimistic about the
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: fortunes of the Patriots this season. So there you go.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: So this is a an optimism for you. Yep, I
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: gotta have some optimism. I don't know how you cannot
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: be excited about the start of the season, even like
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: I've been doing this for a hundred years and I
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: still get excited for the start of the season. That opener.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Fred always makes fun of me for being jaded. I
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: still love game Day. Yeah, I still love game Day.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Eat my donuts coffee. Plus, we mean talking to how
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: great this schedule is, Like I think we all knew it.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: But then like coming in where it's like one o'clock,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: one o'clock for one one, like just all standard operating
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: day and that's one of the game, all right, isn't
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: that what everybody's looking for Sunday at one? Me, I
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: am you don't talk to me about that stretch of
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: four primetime games late. But plus it's like you get home,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: you can watch the late game, like you're already you know,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: like you get like a nice nightcap. It's not like
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: a full red zone mode for postgame show Matt's Matt
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: smile was just thinking about it. Get in it like
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: two ays my random commentary. I think they're gonna overturn this,
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Pat an Igawa, I'm one of my big keys to
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Sunday's game. And things bombarding my screen. Now, oh what happened?
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: Let's see. I gotta go back. Ah, it's terrible, real quick.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: Paul Hardy, sorry, Path three D jaws Hardy did that
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: come up with all on Friday? I was going to
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: bring that up now we didn't talk about one of
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: my keys to Sunday's game. Can be summarized in one word. Pressure.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: You all were dead on earlier in the show regarding
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: the last two Dolphins games and the inability to generate
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: pressure on TWA. I can only remember week one Jude
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: on getting in on him late in the game forcing
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: a bad throw, and that's about it. We can't allow
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: him to sit comfortably in the pocket and pick our
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: poison on where he's going to deliver the ball. I'm
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: not big on TWOA, but his best ability is his
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: accuracy and Hill, considering his stature, is great at catching
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: contested passes. It's probably the most underrated part of his game.
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: The front needs to rattle to his cage early and
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: often on Sunday and make him a lot more uncomfortable
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: than the last three games he's played against US. I
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: hope the d is up to the challenge. I just
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: think it's been so hard to really get after him
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: and get a shot on him because they're again, their
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: offense has just been on time, and it's you know,
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: they'll run the ball. They'll run the ball to get
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: good gains. And it is more important because they're only
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: even to throw the ball like the three games, and
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: he throw the ball twenty twenty two times times something
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: like that. Right, They're all like, that's I mean, you're
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: not getting pressure because he doesn't have to throw the
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: ball all the time. Right, there's just so little chance,
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: I think, to really pin your ears back. And I
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: think when you can stirt and long, he's he's not
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: great at though. I don't think that's his strength. But
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: when it's third and two, it's all on the table
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: for him. So that I mean, that's why I would agree,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: And that's something that's another like that. You know, Matt,
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: I would rather I don't want either one of them.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: You don't want to be in third and ten. But
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: I feel better about my team's chances in third and
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: ten with mac Jones than with twa. Yep, evidently we're
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: keeping Fred awake. Scott writes in He's got some philosophical
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: questions metaphysical. He says, I've always wondered why the hook
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: and lateral is not used more since the skills of
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: the players have increased. Why does not one use those?
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: That's a dangerous player if he's throwing the ball around
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: and a lot of bad things can happen. And is
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: it hook and lateral? Hook and ladder? I mean it's
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: you call it the hook and ladder as short, but
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: it's yeah, it's a hook and lateral. Yeah, I know.
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: But you know, didn't you watch Varsity Blues when they
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: give the signal? Yeah, Mike, I think you could give
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: the signal? Right, wait, I don't know how it does. Yeah,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: but that's a that's a dangerous play. Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Uh well, did you happen to see the Florida State
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: game Sunday night? LSU No, Like, just like how silly
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: things can happen. It's like a minute twenty left. Florida
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: States get the ball inside the one yard line, up seven,
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: third and goal. All they had to do is take
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: a knee, make them take another time out, kick a
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: field goal. Games over, they pitched out, They had a
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: little pitch out on the goal line, goes off the
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: guy's thigh, They lose the ball. LSU goes ninety nine
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: yards and has a chance to tie the game with
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: no time left, and then you got the extra point blocked.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: But like anytime you're putting the ball like in harm's way, unnecessarily,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: it's a risky they say. Even about passing, there's an
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: old saying three things can happen on a pass, and
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: two of them are bad. You know, M Paul, I'm
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: surprised Sunday night though you weren't watching the revs. How
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: can you be watching LSU football when the Reds areant aig?
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: That was a big win? Three nothing, yeah, big win.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: Did not see the rest. I could have told you
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: to bet the house in the revs that game. I
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: knew they were gonna win. I was on the radio
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: on Friday with Bruce Arena. Oh yeah, I did shut
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: my mic off and take the segment off as so
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: as so as you didn't have a question, Tita, not
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: to be disrespectful. I felt like it was. It would
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: be disrespectful for me and I, as someone who doesn't
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: fall closely enough to know what's going on, to ask
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: the coach a question, Paul, Why should I do that? Paul?
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: Paul's like, Bruce, Um, what do you think about your
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: attacking third? Right? You know? Right? You know, and let's
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: just say that it's exactly the opposite of what's actual reality,
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: kind of like some of the questions we get here.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: Never mind, Um, don't you think that would be disrespectful? Yes,
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: if I asked a question like I knew what I
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: was talking about, and I literally not seen a minute
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: of Rev's action all season, so I took the segment off.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Scott says, I'm quite prepared for mediocrity having watched the
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: Patriots since nineteen seventy three. I'm afraid that Bill's ego
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: will be the downfall of the Patriots at this point.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: But given the success, we have had a lifetime of
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: memories this millennium, so I only need to know where
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: to throw in the towel, Like what are you talking about?
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: Why would you ever throw in the towel? Like, think
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: of like other teams that we are, man, we are spoiled.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: We are so spoiled around here, it's unbelievable. How long
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: do you think it tastes to cleanse the palette? Well,
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: just so you know, like that guy, if he's if
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: he's being honest and he's been a fan since nineteen
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: seventy three, I don't think he's spoiled. I think he's
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: been through a lot of different seasons with a lot
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: of different Why would you throw in the towel? I mean,
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: like if you're mathematically out of a season, okay, they can't.
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: But but do you think that throwing in the towel
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: means he's not going to be tuned in Sunday at
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: one and rooting. That's what it sounds like when you're
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: throwing he doesn't think they're going to win. I think
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: that's what he's throwing in the towel. I mean I
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: need a little clarify I'm speaking. I'm speaking for the guy.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: But like Fred, you've often made fun of me in
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: the past, from my elite agencies to my father's alma mater,
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: in Northeastern when I go to the games, they were
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: It's not true now, but there were a lot of
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: years they had little to no shot, and idiot Paul
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: was still there. I still I threw in the towel.
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: I knew there was no shot, but I still went,
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: and I still care and I still hoped to beyond
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: hope that I was wrong, but I knew the other
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: team was better. I need to know his definition of
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: throwing in the towel. In that case, you know, to
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: me throwing in the towels, I've done that with the
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: Red Sox season, just like I was watching a lot
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: of games. I'm not watching anymore right because but now
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: they're out. But I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. You
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: can go into a season and but you can go
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: into a season and say we don't have the horses
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: to compete with, you know, the Chargers, the Ravens, the Chiefs,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: the Bengals like and say we just we're not forgot
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: about the Bills. We're just not as good as those teams.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean that you don't tune in watching.
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: I want root for your team to win. That's what
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: I say, Like I think you could throw in the
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: towel and still be watching the games, and in other words,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: in your definition of throwing in the talents, watching with
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: no hope, yeah or notion, not invested in the season,
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: and yeah, not expecting anything to really, I'm just yeah,
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: I'm not expecting them to go eleven and six. But
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: I think every every single NFL fan right now of
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: every team has like that little voice in the back
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: of their hair. I'm yeah, we're probably gonna stink this year,
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: but you never know. You never I don't think there's
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: a lot of teams like that. I think it's the opposite.
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: I think everybody has hope now except for you know,
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: probably wanted to. They're probably not feeling great in Cleveland
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: with Deshaun Watson not being able to play, but you
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: never know. Chris and Virginia. I have a cool story moment.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: My mom sends me a random picture on Facebook Friday
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: night with her and Aaron Lewis and there's a guy
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: with them in the picture. I reply, Mom, do you
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: know who that is? She said, he said he's some
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: Patriots player. I said, yeah, that's Rob Nikovich and I
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: told her to ask if he knows why Butler got
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: bench in the Super Bowl and she just said he laughed.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Who's Aaron Lewis? I don't know. He might be an influencer.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: Oh okay, I don't know. But why is he worth?
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Rob Nikovich? These are questions we need answered answer. One more,
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: one more email, then we'll call. Then we'll throw in
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: the towel. Marks from clear Water, he says, Coming from
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: Everett and living down here now for over ten years,
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: I can say you never get used to the heat.
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: But regardless, I'm sick of losing to Dolphins. Let's just
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: get a win and start the year right. Well, you
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: should just try to start the week on Tuesday. Then
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: you'll be used to it. There you go. Oh did
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: you move down on a Tuesday? Yeah, that's last Suesnight.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: Just stopped the week on a Tuesday. All right. That's
