- 0:01We rarely reflect on the occult powers that we use all the time
- 0:06automatically including the various powers of the mind and
- 0:11emotions. Researchers in the field of
- 0:14medical science have now recognized the important role
- 0:17that our mental state has on our health and well-being.
- 0:21They now admit the mind body connection and teach us how to
- 0:26harness the power of positive affirmation and visualization in
- 0:31our immune strength and in recovery from any illness or
- 0:35injury without thinking about the implications.
- 0:39We even rely on what we call the placebo effect, which is
- 0:44factored into the study of any new pharmaceutical drug under
- 0:47review. The placebo effect is the result
- 0:51that follows when a subject is given a fake drug as part of the
- 0:55study, yet recovers similar to those who take the real drug.
- 1:01The placebo effect can be seen in 25 to 30% of the cases.
- 1:06Clearly, the very thought that one is getting a drug to cure a
- 1:10condition has real occult power. How much of the healing power of
- 1:17the real drug is based on this same placebo effect, we will
- 1:23never know. The power of the mind is also
- 1:27harnessed to improve athletic performance.
- 1:30Indeed, the use of positive affirmation and visualization
- 1:34are an important aspect of training for advanced athletes.
- 1:39Spiritual practitioners and various paths are provided
- 1:42detailed visualization exercises in order to develop the power of
- 1:47concentration and thereby to advance in their spiritual
- 1:51practice. Most people do not recognize nor
- 1:55understand the power of thought forms to impact other people and
- 1:59results. Researchers are exploring this
- 2:03power and harnessing it to, for instance, aid people who are
- 2:07physically paralyzed in operating a computer, for
- 2:10instance, through the focused and concentrated power of
- 2:14thought. Telekinesis is another occult
- 2:17phenomena that relies on the power of the thought form to
- 2:21move an object in the external world.
- 2:25While these are now visible results, there is an entire
- 2:28field of the power of thought to impact other people and the
- 2:33ideas they follow and the feelings they experience.
- 2:38Because we generally fail to appreciate these powers and
- 2:42their work, we both tend to underutilize them in relation to
- 2:46their real potential and to allow them to act without
- 2:50conscious intention, under the impulsion perhaps, of our vital
- 2:54nature, and thus potentially have negative effects on others.
- 2:59And in the long term, by taking up these powers, consciously
- 3:05exploring and studying them, working to train ourselves in
- 3:09the use and application of them, we can both increase their power
- 3:14and enhance their ability to influence people, events and
- 3:18situations in a positive manner. Dr. de Lal notes quote Sri
- 3:25Aurobindo defines occultism as the knowledge and right use of
- 3:30the hidden forces of nature, especially the forces of the
- 3:34subtle physical and super physical planes.
- 3:38As the Mother points out, in a way everyone practices occultism
- 3:43without knowing it, because everyone uses the powers of
- 3:46thought and imagination which are in fact a cult or hidden,
- 3:51but which produce visible effects on oneself and others.
- 3:56The effects produced by our ordinary thought and imagination
- 3:59are meager compared to what they could be if the powers were
- 4:04developed through training. In fact, most people are not
- 4:08even aware of the effects brought about by thought and
- 4:11imagination on our bodies and our external lives.
- 4:15Therefore, these powers are often used in ways which are
- 4:18detrimental to us and others. An important step in developing
- 4:24the powers within us is to become more conscious of the
- 4:27powers we already possess and use, as also of the effects they
- 4:32are producing in our daily lives, so that we may learn to
- 4:36use them more deliberately and beneficially.
