2:44
Speaker 3: I'm kidding. I'm keep also Patty Tilley with us from
2:46
Speaker 3: the Salvation. Are we Patty? How you doing?
2:47
Speaker 5: I'm doing pretty good this morning.
2:49
Speaker 6: How are you?
2:49
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine? Welcome back to both of you. We
2:51
Speaker 3: want to talk about the golf tournament that you've got
2:53
Speaker 3: going up with ge I also want to talk to
2:55
Speaker 3: you about the eighteenth annual one of seven three the
2:58
Speaker 3: Beat's Backpacket, which is happening Wednesday on our parking not
3:02
Speaker 3: eleven eleven Virginia Street, Eastern Charleston. We'll get into that
3:05
Speaker 3: a little bit more, but Patty, I want to start
3:07
Speaker 3: with you. Talk about this big event you Doug. Either
3:10
Speaker 3: one of you, I'm an easy interviewer eating the one
3:12
Speaker 3: of you wants to jump in talk about this golf tournament.
3:14
Speaker 5: So our golf tournament, it's our second annual Red Kettle Classic,
3:17
Speaker 5: has taken place Friday, August the fifteenth. Tea time will
3:21
Speaker 5: be beginning eight o'clock at registration, and the event is
3:26
Speaker 5: to help raise money for the year round programs of
3:28
Speaker 5: the Salvation Army.
3:29
Speaker 3: And where's the tournament being here.
3:30
Speaker 5: The tournament's being held at Little Creek Golf Course, one of.
3:32
Speaker 3: The great golf courses. It's at South Charles. They do
3:36
Speaker 3: a great job with that. I want to talk about
3:37
Speaker 3: the overall mission of the Salvation Army in the in
3:41
Speaker 3: the area.
3:42
Speaker 5: So the overall mission is to serve people. That's what
3:44
Speaker 5: we're here for, to love on people, to make sure
3:46
Speaker 5: that people's needs are met, whether that be a place
3:50
Speaker 5: for a child after school to go before they go home,
3:53
Speaker 5: a meal, a meal that may single mother may need
3:56
Speaker 5: to put on her table, or at Christmas time if
3:58
Speaker 5: a child needs presents. But the overall mission is to
4:01
Speaker 5: serve people and to do that the best as we can.
4:03
Speaker 3: And you know, when you think about the Salvation Army,
4:05
Speaker 3: obviously the first thing that pops up is the cattle
4:08
Speaker 3: drives that you do around the holiday season. But those
4:11
Speaker 3: drives are done for a reason, you know, I mean,
4:13
Speaker 3: it's not just to help out during Christmas.
4:15
Speaker 5: No, the program's run year round January through December. Our
4:20
Speaker 5: doors are open on Tennessee Avenue. We help in seven counties.
4:23
Speaker 5: There are always people who are hungry, needing clothing, and
4:27
Speaker 5: that's what we're there for.
4:29
Speaker 3: Are you seeing a greater need for the services of
4:32
Speaker 3: the Salvation Army here? Of the last let's say year
4:35
Speaker 3: or two, has it been about the same? What's the
4:37
Speaker 3: need better?
4:38
Speaker 5: There's been an increased need with everything that happens in
4:40
Speaker 5: the world and the economy, things are up and down.
4:43
Speaker 5: We could see people that last week had a good
4:46
Speaker 5: full time job with benefits and was doing well. But
4:49
Speaker 5: something may happen in illness or an accident where they're
4:53
Speaker 5: out of work all of a sudden and they need
4:54
Speaker 5: help and they don't know what to do or where
4:56
Speaker 5: to turn. That electric bill comes in and all of
4:58
Speaker 5: a sudden, they don't have an income and they're not
4:59
Speaker 5: sure sure how they're going to pay it. So they
5:01
Speaker 5: call Vandy down at the Salvation Army, and Vandy pulls
5:04
Speaker 5: them in and helps them as much as you can
5:06
Speaker 5: to keep those those bills paid for their families.
5:08
Speaker 3: Talking to Patty Tilley gy money, I want to ask
5:10
Speaker 3: you though, I mean, uh, what's your involvement in all this?
5:13
Speaker 3: I mean you've been a long time supporter of the
5:15
Speaker 3: Salvation Army. Talk talk to us about your involvement.
5:18
Speaker 7: Yes, Dave, I am on the advisory board for the
5:21
Speaker 7: Salvation Army, and last year we wanted to come up
5:25
Speaker 7: with a different way to raise money. So they came
5:29
Speaker 7: to me. They was like, uh, you know, George, do
5:31
Speaker 7: you have any ideas? So I came up and I said, well,
5:34
Speaker 7: you know, let's try a golf tournament.
5:36
Speaker 3: It went.
5:36
Speaker 7: It was very successful last year, so again we're coming
5:39
Speaker 7: back again this year with our second annual Red Kettle
5:42
Speaker 7: Classic golf tournament. So my involvement, you know, I try
5:47
Speaker 7: to be involved as much as possible over there, not
5:51
Speaker 7: only just raising money, but just out you know, just
5:54
Speaker 7: supporting and and you know, letting people in the community
5:58
Speaker 7: know about the Salvation Army.
5:59
Speaker 3: And you've seen firsthand because I know you've been involved
6:01
Speaker 3: with them for a long time. Gee, you've seen firsthand
6:04
Speaker 3: the great things that they do here in the Charleston
6:05
Speaker 3: area and for seven counties, as Patty said.
6:09
Speaker 7: Exactly, like she said, we do reach out to seven counties.
6:13
Speaker 7: The command is right here in Charleston. But there's social services,
6:18
Speaker 7: there is the Youth Center. There are so many activities
6:22
Speaker 7: and so many things that goes on over at the
6:24
Speaker 7: Salvation Army. Like Patty said, if you need help, Vandy,
6:28
Speaker 7: She's Vandy is so awesome over there. You know, people
6:31
Speaker 7: called in that need help paying a bill, and Vandy
6:35
Speaker 7: pulls them in and make sure, you know, she makes
6:37
Speaker 7: sure that they get the resources or get the money
6:40
Speaker 7: that they need to get them bills paid.
6:43
Speaker 3: Talk about the social services, Patty that the Salvation Army offers.
6:47
Speaker 5: So Vandy and the Social Service office is open five
6:50
Speaker 5: days a week. People can come in for things like food.
6:53
Speaker 5: She has homeless packs ready to go so that when
6:56
Speaker 5: the homeless people come in they have a pack that
6:59
Speaker 5: they can take with him with food or high giene
7:00
Speaker 5: items in it. There's a food pantry right there, so
7:03
Speaker 5: when people come in, we're good about getting donations from
7:07
Speaker 5: Kroger and Sam so we're able to give them fresh
7:10
Speaker 5: fruits and vegetables and meat and then our canned food
7:15
Speaker 5: so they walk out with food that day to feed
7:17
Speaker 5: their families. Utility Assistance it's a great place for kids
7:21
Speaker 5: going back to school if parents don't have a lot
7:23
Speaker 5: of money taking you get clothing vouchers from Vandy to
7:26
Speaker 5: go into our thrift stores to find that clothes that
7:29
Speaker 5: they need.
7:30
Speaker 6: For those kids to go back to school.
7:31
Speaker 5: So it's really just all right there in one spot
7:35
Speaker 5: at three on one Tennessee Avenue.
7:36
Speaker 3: Doing good stuff. Over there again, we're talking with Patty
7:38
Speaker 3: Tilley from the Salvation Army and our guy G Money,
7:41
Speaker 3: we know him as g George is also his name.
7:46
Speaker 3: He's helping out with the Salvation Army and the sculpture. But
7:48
Speaker 3: how many teams did you have approximately last year?
7:50
Speaker 7: Last year we had eighteen. Last year we had eighteen
7:54
Speaker 7: teams and it was had a storm, and believe it
7:58
Speaker 7: or not, all eighteen teams showed up played in a storm.
8:01
Speaker 3: Golfers don't care and exactly.
8:03
Speaker 7: And you know, they walked away and was like, this
8:06
Speaker 7: was one of the best tournaments we've ever played in.
8:08
Speaker 7: So these are little things that we look forward to
8:11
Speaker 7: and we hopefully hopefully this year the weather we have
8:16
Speaker 7: nice weather, it won't rain and it would be more successful.
8:20
Speaker 3: I've learned in being around the golf tournaments, you know,
8:22
Speaker 3: my entire career, that they're pretty much willing to play
8:27
Speaker 3: no matter what. You know, golfers are a hardcore group.
8:30
Speaker 3: Once you get them out there on the course, they're
8:33
Speaker 3: gonna keep going. What about sponsors? Do you have some
8:35
Speaker 3: sponsors for the tournament, like corporate sponsors or do you
8:37
Speaker 3: need corporate sponsors? What do you need?
8:39
Speaker 7: We have some sponsors, but we are still looking for sponsors, okay.
8:43
Speaker 3: And how do people become a sponsor? And what exactly
8:45
Speaker 3: you look like monetary donations and they.
8:47
Speaker 5: Monetary donations for sponsorships. We have everything from seventy five
8:50
Speaker 5: hundred dollars down to five hundred dollars. Five hundred dollars
8:54
Speaker 5: for a team. If anybody's interested in sponsoring or just
8:56
Speaker 5: donating towards the tournament, they can call me at three
8:59
Speaker 5: zero four three four three four five four eight or
9:03
Speaker 5: visit our website at Charleston Salvation Army, CHARLESTONWV dot org
9:07
Speaker 5: and it's all right there on our web page under
9:09
Speaker 5: the events tab.
9:10
Speaker 3: It is a nine to sixteen to day island show
9:12
Speaker 3: and finve Ady Live is presented apart by Live Healthy
9:14
Speaker 3: West Virginia presented by WVU Medicine. It's a podcast promoting
9:18
Speaker 3: healthier lifestyles and to be on the state of West Virginia.
9:20
Speaker 3: Check have of latest episodes wv metronews dot com under
9:23
Speaker 3: the podcast menu. We'll get back to the Salvation Army
9:27
Speaker 3: here for a moment, but gey I got you here.
9:28
Speaker 3: We got a big event going on here on our
9:30
Speaker 3: parking lot. We do it every year, eighteen years we've
9:33
Speaker 3: been doing this and thanks big shout out to folks
9:35
Speaker 3: at Selango Law for sponsoring it. It's our annual backpack Attack.
9:39
Speaker 3: Things are going to start Wednesday afternoon. We'll start lining
9:42
Speaker 3: up at about three. We usually blow the whistle, fire
9:45
Speaker 3: the gun whatever at four o'clock to get them in here.
9:48
Speaker 3: A couple of things that you need to know parents, grandparents,
9:51
Speaker 3: we have you. The kids have to be present, and
9:55
Speaker 3: we have an issue with this. Sometimes most people are understanding,
9:57
Speaker 3: but they'll say, well, you know, my child and my
10:00
Speaker 3: kid was at home or whatever. We got to actually
10:02
Speaker 3: see physically see the kid. So you got to bring
10:05
Speaker 3: the kids. We're gonna give him a backpack with everything
10:08
Speaker 3: that they need for the upcoming school year. And you've
10:10
Speaker 3: been a part of this. You've been a part of
10:11
Speaker 3: it just probably since the beginning, right or eighteen years
10:14
Speaker 3: eighteen years? Would he drug you under this thing and
10:16
Speaker 3: he won't let you out?
10:17
Speaker 7: Listen. I've been a part of West Virginia WVRC media
10:22
Speaker 7: for twenty four years now. So this is one of
10:26
Speaker 7: our big, our big, big events right here. And you know,
10:30
Speaker 7: just to talk about it, Dave, I just get a
10:32
Speaker 7: lot of chills through my body because we do want
10:35
Speaker 7: the child to be present in order to receive the backpack.
10:39
Speaker 7: We like to talk to the kids. We want to
10:41
Speaker 7: you know, give them that extra boost, you know, just
10:45
Speaker 7: speak to them and give them that extra boost so
10:47
Speaker 7: when they step in that classroom, they know, hey, g
10:50
Speaker 7: money or what he was, you know, just talk to me.
10:52
Speaker 7: This is what I got to do. That's why we
10:54
Speaker 7: want to see the kids and we want to put
10:56
Speaker 7: the backpack in their hand, not in the parents' hand.
10:59
Speaker 7: So we stress that each and every year, we know
11:01
Speaker 7: that some kids may not be able to make it
11:04
Speaker 7: due to unforeseen circumstances. But again, we want to see
11:11
Speaker 7: the child. We want to put the backpack in the
11:13
Speaker 7: child's hand. And again it wouldn't be possible without our community.
11:17
Speaker 7: We call them our community partners because we reach out
11:20
Speaker 7: to them and you know, we tell them, hey, it's
11:23
Speaker 7: time for our backpack.
11:24
Speaker 3: They say, no more, what do you need. This is
11:26
Speaker 3: the type of reaction we.
11:27
Speaker 7: Get with our community partners when we out there and
11:30
Speaker 7: big shout out to Selango Law. They stepped up and
11:33
Speaker 7: you know they are. They are, you know, our title
11:36
Speaker 7: sponsor for our Backpack Attack, our eighteenth annual Backpack Attack.
11:41
Speaker 3: And the way it works is again, our parking lot
11:43
Speaker 3: is eleven eleven Virginia Treaty, Charleston, just stuff from Charleston Catholic.
11:46
Speaker 3: When you come in, kids will line up down the
11:48
Speaker 3: street and they go well beyond Charleston Catholic.
11:50
Speaker 2: I mean almost to the newspaper.
11:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean all the way down through there and
11:54
Speaker 3: we have and they'll start lining up early. I mean
11:56
Speaker 3: we usually tell them to start line up about three.
11:57
Speaker 3: They're out there about one thirty or so, the standing
11:59
Speaker 3: in line a few end of the time, five or six,
12:02
Speaker 3: we have them make the circle around the parking lot.
12:04
Speaker 3: We've got other vendors here too. We have always had,
12:06
Speaker 3: as you said, gee, we have our community sponsors that
12:08
Speaker 3: are out there with us with other other things to
12:11
Speaker 3: give away. And it's very orderly. We bring people in.
12:14
Speaker 3: You go to station one, station two, and then we
12:16
Speaker 3: have you exit out the other side and those back.
12:18
Speaker 3: What's what's needed in backpacks has kind of changed over
12:21
Speaker 3: the years.
12:21
Speaker 2: You know.
12:22
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you've been there since since day one,
12:24
Speaker 3: so we had to put different things in the backpacks.
12:26
Speaker 7: Now, yes, we of course a lot of the kids
12:29
Speaker 7: are going to tablets, so of course that's why we
12:32
Speaker 7: had to make that adjustment and not put the notebooks
12:36
Speaker 7: in all of the pencils and things like that because
12:39
Speaker 7: they're on their tablet. But we still, uh, we still
12:42
Speaker 7: supply them things. We just don't supply as much as
12:45
Speaker 7: we did because they don't need it.
12:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, and somebody had ask about earbuds we put earbuds.
12:50
Speaker 3: And then the reason that that is important. On the surface,
12:53
Speaker 3: you may say why, why are why earbuds? Because every
12:56
Speaker 3: kid in Kanaw County schools has an iPad so some
12:59
Speaker 3: sort of a tablet, and they have to have the
13:00
Speaker 3: earbuds in order to study, you know, if they're in
13:04
Speaker 3: their library or they're in their classroom or whatever, so
13:07
Speaker 3: you're not disturbing other students. That's why, to answer the
13:09
Speaker 3: texters question from a couple of days ago, that's why
13:11
Speaker 3: they have the earbuds there.
13:12
Speaker 7: Yeah, And like I say, we try to think of
13:15
Speaker 7: everything that child is going to need for that school year.
13:18
Speaker 7: So again that's why we say we're we're trying to
13:21
Speaker 7: prepare them for a successful school year. We may not
13:24
Speaker 7: give them everything that they need, but we're going to
13:27
Speaker 7: prepare them to start the school year off.
13:29
Speaker 8: Right.
13:30
Speaker 3: We don't do well, it's not on us, is that
13:31
Speaker 3: what you're saying. We're giving you. We're giving you all
13:34
Speaker 3: the tools parents. And again that'll be Wednesday. We'll start
13:36
Speaker 3: lining up about three o'clock down the street here in
13:38
Speaker 3: Virginia Street easton Charleston. We'll normally wrap it up by
13:41
Speaker 3: about five thirty or six and if we have backpacks
13:45
Speaker 3: left over, which sometimes we do, we always make sure
13:48
Speaker 3: that those go to the schools. We'll just take a
13:50
Speaker 3: we'll just pick you know, pick a school and take
13:52
Speaker 3: them and drop them off. And they got the I mean,
13:53
Speaker 3: the backpacks always got the Beat logo on them. They're very,
13:56
Speaker 3: very popular with the kids.
13:56
Speaker 7: They love them and tell you, these are some really
13:59
Speaker 7: nice backpacks. I was just in there yesterday digging through
14:03
Speaker 7: the boxes, of course, because we got to get started
14:05
Speaker 7: this week today packing them. So yesterday I was in
14:08
Speaker 7: there digging through the boxes. They're really nice backpacks. So
14:12
Speaker 7: you're not getting something that's not gonna last. This is
14:15
Speaker 7: gonna last your child the whole school year.
14:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly right. And again that packing process is what
14:20
Speaker 3: we get to do here because when the when the
14:22
Speaker 3: kids come in, we just handled the backpack. It's already
14:24
Speaker 3: filled with everything already. But our community partners are handing
14:27
Speaker 3: out other things too.
14:28
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, we have like Greed Dental Group, they will
14:32
Speaker 7: most likely be there handing out toothbrushes and things like that.
14:36
Speaker 7: We also have West Virginia I Consultants. They will actually
14:39
Speaker 7: be there. Ten and ten incorporated a lot of our
14:43
Speaker 7: community partners will be in the park a lot handing
14:45
Speaker 7: out something. Yeah, yeah, everyone will have something to hand out.
14:50
Speaker 3: And we'll be talking about more as we get a
14:51
Speaker 3: little closer. It's all happened to Wednesday. Let's get back
14:53
Speaker 3: to the golf tournament again, Patty. I appreciate you giving
14:56
Speaker 3: up a little little of your time here, but I
14:58
Speaker 3: had to kill two birds with one stone. My man
15:00
Speaker 3: g when he's in the studio here, let's hit the date,
15:03
Speaker 3: the time, the website, Facebook, phone, whatever people need to
15:07
Speaker 3: know about your golf tournament, which is happening a week
15:10
Speaker 3: from this Friday.
15:11
Speaker 5: August fifteenth. Tea is at eight o'clock. For registration, they
15:15
Speaker 5: can visit the Salvation Army Charleston, WV dot org or
15:19
Speaker 5: call me at the office at three oh four three
15:22
Speaker 5: four three four five four eight. We still have teams
15:24
Speaker 5: available five hundred dollars for a team. That's a bargain
15:26
Speaker 5: from what I understand, so it is many. We still
15:29
Speaker 5: have spots open for teams, so get your teams together,
15:31
Speaker 5: come out and hit some balls. And we have a
15:33
Speaker 5: hole in one tournament this year that we didn't have
15:35
Speaker 5: last year. So the an opportunity to win ten thousand dollars.
15:38
Speaker 5: Twist is that's not jump Jean?
15:40
Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly right, exactly, Yeah, that's what I wanted to
15:42
Speaker 7: hit on that hole in one. Like, if you are
15:45
Speaker 7: a golfer and if you want a chance to win
15:48
Speaker 7: ten thousand dollars, this is your chance right here. Only
15:50
Speaker 7: thing you have to do is come on out. We
15:52
Speaker 7: have a certain we have a hole that's already picked,
15:55
Speaker 7: and if you hit a hole in one on this
15:57
Speaker 7: certain hole, you can walk away with ten thousand dollars.
16:00
Speaker 3: Ten thousand dollars. Yes, that's good stuff. What if somebody
16:03
Speaker 3: is like an individual, they can't they don't have a team.
16:06
Speaker 3: If somebody just says, well I want a golf I
16:07
Speaker 3: want to participate, but you know, I'm in a small company.
16:10
Speaker 3: Can't get a you know, can you put them with somebody?
16:13
Speaker 3: Will you take individuals?
16:14
Speaker 5: We can't take individuals right now, just by team. If
16:18
Speaker 5: somebody wants to donate, they can. If they want to
16:20
Speaker 5: come out in volunteer care.
16:21
Speaker 3: Yeah you need volunteers pulled off golf tournaments too.
16:23
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, they can come out and help with that.
16:26
Speaker 3: All right. Patty Tilly and g Money appreciate you both
16:28
Speaker 3: being here. Thanks a lot, good luck to day next week.

19:59
Speaker 3: community dedicated folks I have ever seen a good man
20:03
Speaker 3: doing great things. I would agree with that. He is
20:06
Speaker 3: a fantastic dude. I am proud to call him a cowork.
20:08
Speaker 3: He does so much in the community that you you
20:11
Speaker 3: don't even necessarily hear about all of the things that
20:14
Speaker 3: that g does. Now again on the backpack attack. Remember
20:17
Speaker 3: it's happening on Wednesday in our parking lot eleven eleven
20:20
Speaker 3: Virginia Street East in Charleston, and we'll line up about three.
20:24
Speaker 3: We'll start at four and just come on out and
20:27
Speaker 3: bring the kids out. Kids must be present. That is very,
20:32
Speaker 3: very key. We want to actually see the kids. And
20:35
Speaker 3: you know we we have over the years, we've and
20:39
Speaker 3: I've only been a part of this thing for the
20:40
Speaker 3: last I guess three or four years, but this thing's
20:43
Speaker 3: been going on for eighteen years. Big shout out to
20:45
Speaker 3: Selango Law for sponsoring this year and all of our
20:48
Speaker 3: community part of the all our community partners g Money
20:51
Speaker 3: just mentioned there. We couldn't do it without them. But
20:54
Speaker 3: the reason that we have to have the kids there
20:55
Speaker 3: is because we don't. We kind of want to avoid
20:58
Speaker 3: you know, we've had instances in the past unfore seeing
21:00
Speaker 3: people say well, I need ten backpacks for ten kids
21:03
Speaker 3: at home. Now maybe somebody's got ten kids. I don't
21:06
Speaker 3: know what anybody necessarily does. So if you got those
21:08
Speaker 3: ten kids, bring the ten kids out. We'll place them
21:11
Speaker 3: the backpacks directly in their hands. A couple of quick
21:15
Speaker 3: things here. Over the next couple of days, you're going
21:18
Speaker 3: to be hearing a new voice on WCCHS here in Charleston.
21:22
Speaker 3: He isn't exactly a new voice. He's been with our
21:24
Speaker 3: company for a while, but he's relocating from Martinsburg to Charleston.
21:28
Speaker 3: Team is Daniel Woods, and ever since Kyle Wiggs took
21:31
Speaker 3: over for Tony Cariedi on sports Line, Daniel has been
21:34
Speaker 3: handling the morning sports on the Morning News with Chris
21:36
Speaker 3: and Jeff. You've also heard him covering various sports stories
21:40
Speaker 3: on Metro News Midday with us. Daniel is going to
21:42
Speaker 3: be joining us here in Charleston to handle sports and
21:46
Speaker 3: news as as well. In fact, we're talking about the
21:49
Speaker 3: Beat earlier. One of seven three to Beat is going
21:51
Speaker 3: to be the new home at this fall for West
21:53
Speaker 3: Virginia State football, and Daniel is going to be covering
21:56
Speaker 3: that for us. And Daniel will join us on the
21:59
Speaker 3: show tomorrow because as you know, when we add new
22:03
Speaker 3: blood here at the radio ranch, like we like to
22:06
Speaker 3: call it, I like to bring him on the show
22:07
Speaker 3: so you can get to know them now this time around.
22:11
Speaker 3: Not totally new blood, but he's new to us here
22:14
Speaker 3: in Charleston. Daniel Woods is his name, and he's going
22:16
Speaker 3: to join the team tomorrow. So we are looking forward
22:20
Speaker 3: to getting to know Daniel Woodsy. I'll do a little
22:22
Speaker 3: twenty questions or maybe ten questions with him coming up
22:25
Speaker 3: on the show tomorrow. But Dave Island Show on five
22:26
Speaker 3: eighty Live is presented apart by your hometown baseball team,
22:29
Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. Off night tonight for the Birds

22:45
Speaker 3: was Eighties night over to Ballpark. And if you haven't
22:48
Speaker 3: seen the video of our guys Shockley from our sister
22:51
Speaker 3: station ninety eight to seven of the Mountain Wild and
22:53
Speaker 3: Wonderful Classic Rock, Shockley was asked to throw out the
22:56
Speaker 3: first pitch and he nailed it. I mean he nailed
23:00
Speaker 3: it at even at his age, and I say that
23:02
Speaker 3: because he's a couple of months older than I am.
23:05
Speaker 3: He absolutely nailed it. I got the video. It's posted
23:09
Speaker 3: over on the Mountain Facebook page. It's also a Dave
23:10
Speaker 3: Island Radio so if you want to see what it's
23:13
Speaker 3: supposed to look like when you get somebody from outside
23:15
Speaker 3: the baseball world to throw out a first pitch, go take.
23:19
Speaker 3: I think it was the hair, because he's got all
23:21
Speaker 3: this hair, you know. I think it was the hair,
23:23
Speaker 3: But he put that hair behind him. The velocity in
23:26
Speaker 3: that thing was incredible. So yeah, Shockley did really well.
23:29
Speaker 3: And thanks to the Dirty Birds for having us out
23:31
Speaker 3: there on Saturday night. Going back to the Daniel Wood situation,
23:35
Speaker 3: I also do want to mention that it's bit of
23:39
Speaker 3: a sad note here. A voice that you've become familiar
23:41
Speaker 3: with over the last couple of years is leaving us.
23:44
Speaker 3: Kat Skelton, who has been a big part of our
23:46
Speaker 3: news team for the last I guess a couple of
23:48
Speaker 3: years or so, is leaving us to pursue other career opportunities.
23:54
Speaker 3: I will say this, Kat Skelton was a delight to
23:57
Speaker 3: work with and we wish her the very best in
24:00
Speaker 3: her future endeavors. You heard her voice throughout the day
24:02
Speaker 3: on the news. She did a fantastic job, and so
24:07
Speaker 3: she's going to be leaving us for other things. I
24:09
Speaker 3: gotta tell though, a quick Cat Skelton story, all right.
24:13
Speaker 3: A couple of years ago had her good friends from
24:16
Speaker 3: the reptile facility over in Tays Valley, you know the one.
24:20
Speaker 3: I'm talking about what they've got the lizards and the
24:22
Speaker 3: snakes and so on and so forth. I had the
24:24
Speaker 3: gentleman Andy McKee on the show with me a couple
24:28
Speaker 3: of years ago, and he said, I'm going to bring
24:32
Speaker 3: some snakes in if that is okay. Well, I talked
24:35
Speaker 3: to our HR department, Ashley, and the folks said, well,
24:39
Speaker 3: it's okay. But you probably need to let everyone know
24:48
Speaker 3: about it, and I said, okay, I said that's fine.
24:51
Speaker 3: So I sent out an email to the office day
24:55
Speaker 3: before and throughout the office and said, we're gonna have
24:59
Speaker 3: a gentlemaney Man McKee on the show tomorrow and he's
25:01
Speaker 3: going to be bringing some reptiles and snakes, and studio
25:04
Speaker 3: just wanted to let you everywhere, let everyone know you
25:06
Speaker 3: may want to avoid the WHS studio. We weren't in
25:10
Speaker 3: the new studio. This was our old studio. This a
25:13
Speaker 3: couple of years ago. Poor misus caat Skelton would not
25:18
Speaker 3: enter the building until the snake was gone. And her
25:24
Speaker 3: office in the area she works at is nowhere near
25:27
Speaker 3: where the studio is. Everybody's got their thing, and apparently
25:31
Speaker 3: that was that was hers. She was a little bit
25:37
Speaker 3: frightened about the snakes. So we got through it. But
25:40
Speaker 3: I just had to tell that quick Cat Skelton story.

26:25
Speaker 3: a little bit later on the show. It's about the
26:27
Speaker 3: governors out of state fundraisers, one in Napa Valley and
26:32
Speaker 3: another in Dallas. Now, it was an interesting story to me.
26:37
Speaker 3: There's nothing at all wrong with it. It's perfectly legal.
26:40
Speaker 3: It just may rub some people the wrong way. And
26:43
Speaker 3: let's be clear though, others have had out of state fundraiserers,
26:46
Speaker 3: including Senator Mansion. But some may say there's a bit
26:50
Speaker 3: of a difference when it comes to out of state
26:53
Speaker 3: fundraisers between senators and a governor. Anyway, read the commentary

31:06
Speaker 3: It was great.
31:06
Speaker 6: It was great. Loved it absolutely.
31:08
Speaker 3: Love, would have loved to have seen them playing for
31:10
Speaker 3: that million dollars. Loved what was not meant to be.
31:13
Speaker 3: But what a great run and what a great shot
31:15
Speaker 3: in the arm for the city of Charlestone, man CVB,
31:18
Speaker 3: the city itself, everybody.
31:20
Speaker 18: Yeah, it was just wonderful having them back. We were
31:22
Speaker 18: so happy to host all the teams. I mean, I
31:25
Speaker 18: know we focused on her that in Best Virginia, but
31:28
Speaker 18: quite frankly, Dave, we were delighted to have all the
31:31
Speaker 18: teams from young men and their families from all over
31:34
Speaker 18: the country.
31:35
Speaker 6: Let's not let's not forget that, you know.
31:38
Speaker 18: It was Yeah, it was a It was a wonderful
31:41
Speaker 18: opportunity for us to host them as well, and so
31:45
Speaker 18: while they didn't make it, by golly, they made it
31:48
Speaker 18: to the final four.
31:48
Speaker 6: That's never happened before.
31:51
Speaker 18: Amazing athletes, amazing competition and the one thing that we
31:55
Speaker 18: do really well in the city of Charleston bring everyone together.
31:58
Speaker 6: I will let everybody know though.
32:00
Speaker 18: Somebody said to me when they were sitting in those seats,
32:02
Speaker 18: I thought you were replacing these seats, Mayor, I said, yes,
32:06
Speaker 18: I am, week, yes I am. It's a common and
32:10
Speaker 18: so we wanted to get through TBT. It's starting and
32:14
Speaker 18: it's going to be finished. It's going to be top
32:16
Speaker 18: to bottom and it you know, we looked at different
32:19
Speaker 18: coliseums and convention centers across the country, working with OVG,
32:23
Speaker 18: the company that we hired many years ago to help
32:26
Speaker 18: us manage that big facility. But when they did the
32:30
Speaker 18: renovations the one hundred million dollars, the seats weren't touched.
32:34
Speaker 18: And it's something that we now are filling and flooding
32:38
Speaker 18: with the amount of uptick that we're seeing in concerts
32:41
Speaker 18: and special events, and so it was a necessity. So
32:44
Speaker 18: I brought it before the Council many moons ago, and
32:47
Speaker 18: we had the seats and they're coming in. So maybe
32:49
Speaker 18: the next time you are heading to the coliseum in
32:52
Speaker 18: Convention Center later on this fall and winter, you'll be
32:55
Speaker 18: sitting in brand new seats. So they look good, they're
32:58
Speaker 18: going to feel good, and they're going to be brand Know,
33:00
Speaker 18: everything is going to be powerwashed and cleaned all the
33:02
Speaker 18: way down.
33:03
Speaker 6: It takes time.
33:04
Speaker 18: We had to schedule around this, and of course it
33:07
Speaker 18: was also a hefty ticket as well.
33:08
Speaker 3: Dave, I think we got a call for the mayor.
33:11
Speaker 3: Let's go to the phones and Frank, you're on with
33:13
Speaker 3: the mayor.
33:13
Speaker 6: Go ahead, Hi, Amy, Hey Frank.
33:17
Speaker 19: Well, first I want to say kudos kudos on Live
33:20
Speaker 19: on the Levee and the regard of this year. It's
33:22
Speaker 19: just been fantastic. It's just been a wonderful venue. And
33:25
Speaker 19: I enjoy the heck out going down there every Friday
33:27
Speaker 19: night and watching It's a special job on that.
33:31
Speaker 18: Oh good well, Mother Nature, she was really kind to us.
33:33
Speaker 18: Frank this Friday. I gotta be honest with you. If
33:36
Speaker 18: you were down there you felt the breeze. I'm not
33:37
Speaker 18: going to say you felt a cool breeze on regatta today,
33:40
Speaker 18: but I hear you, Frank, thank you.
33:42
Speaker 19: It was fantastic a issue on a house. I bought
33:48
Speaker 19: a house and there's one right beside of it, andees
33:50
Speaker 19: tore down and I'm on the list to have a demolished.
33:53
Speaker 19: But it seems to be getting worse and worse. Every
33:55
Speaker 19: time the wind blows the shingles off, the riff go
33:58
Speaker 19: all eating sidewalk and the floor is falling in. It's
34:02
Speaker 19: a safety hazard. And I just don't want anybody coming
34:04
Speaker 19: around there just one round and falling in and getting
34:07
Speaker 19: hurt or anything. Plus I get sued if that what happened.
34:09
Speaker 6: That's right, Frank.
34:11
Speaker 18: Have you have you spoken from to anybody from our team,
34:14
Speaker 18: especially in the Mayor's office? Have you talked to any
34:16
Speaker 18: of us who Have you talked to.
34:18
Speaker 19: Billy or Alice Bell over there house? Yes?
34:20
Speaker 6: Sure, sure, sure, sure sure show.
34:23
Speaker 19: And then Don Dion Nichols, all their Harry and Ashley.
34:28
Speaker 15: Yep.
34:29
Speaker 6: Hey, Frank, will you do me a favor?
34:30
Speaker 18: So I can? I promise you this. I'll personally follow
34:33
Speaker 18: up with it if you do me this tiny, tiny favor?
34:37
Speaker 6: Would you call?
34:38
Speaker 18: You could either call two people in the Mayor's office.
34:40
Speaker 18: You can call Matthew or Andrew. Matthew Sutton is our
34:42
Speaker 18: chief of staff. And Andrew is uh my, I always
34:48
Speaker 18: say my right hand, my right hand, my left eye.
34:51
Speaker 18: Uh Andrew at three oh four, three four eight eight
34:54
Speaker 18: one seven four do me that favor. Either one of
34:58
Speaker 18: the three of us will personally make a phone call
34:59
Speaker 18: about because I need your address. I need a little bit.
35:02
Speaker 18: I know you don't want to give that over the phone.
35:03
Speaker 18: I wouldn't either, but go ahead and give that to me.
35:06
Speaker 18: Call into the office three four, three four eight eight
35:09
Speaker 18: one seven four ask for either one of those guys.
35:12
Speaker 18: They'll take a message. We'll follow up with you and
35:14
Speaker 18: give me a return number to hit you back.
35:16
Speaker 6: Okay, Frank certainly appreciate it. Yes, thank you, Frank, appreciate.
35:19
Speaker 3: You, sir, Thank you, Frank. It's eighteen minutes away from
35:22
Speaker 3: ten o'clock and we got another call for the mayor
35:24
Speaker 3: and that's why she's here. Let's go to the phones.
35:26
Speaker 3: You're on with the mayor. Go ahead, Hello, you're on
35:30
Speaker 3: with the mail. Yep, Yeah, you're on the air.
35:32
Speaker 4: Go ahead, Hey, this is Mike. To come off Bridge
35:38
Speaker 4: Road and turn and go down where the new far
35:41
Speaker 4: Mare and the new Arby's is. Yes, sir, it's a
35:47
Speaker 4: really great facility. They really love it. However, I know
35:50
Speaker 4: two people who've already there's a curve, a concrete curve
35:54
Speaker 4: that comes right out into the street. I mean it's
35:58
Speaker 4: just inches from the street. I know, I personally know
36:01
Speaker 4: two people who have hit that destroyed uh tires. Could
36:05
Speaker 4: you come off the ramp there by Lowries and drive
36:09
Speaker 4: down and just kind of take a look at that
36:11
Speaker 4: curve and see what you think?
36:12
Speaker 6: Sure, so help me, Mike.
36:14
Speaker 18: If I'm coming off of Bridge Road and I make
36:16
Speaker 18: a left and I'm heading to Parmar and Parmar is
36:19
Speaker 18: on my right, tell me tell me at which curve.
36:21
Speaker 18: I promise you I'll go do it. Tell me where
36:24
Speaker 18: you'll see it, You'll see you.
36:25
Speaker 6: Is this a new curve? Was this a new curve
36:27
Speaker 6: that was put up when Parmark came in?
36:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, brand new curve. Yeah, and I understand you really
36:36
Speaker 4: kind of beers right out into the street. Okay, First,
36:40
Speaker 4: you're a horrible drive. And then when I had dinner
36:43
Speaker 4: at my Pollie the other night, it was amazing. That's
36:47
Speaker 4: another phone calling. But look at it, Holy cat, I
36:51
Speaker 4: mean that's right.
36:53
Speaker 6: Yeah.
36:53
Speaker 18: Let me let me put my eyeballs on it, and
36:56
Speaker 18: let me call our planning streets and traffic folks and
36:59
Speaker 18: a special our traffic engineer Mac matt Hartline.
37:02
Speaker 6: Uh, let me do that, Mike, and.
37:06
Speaker 4: You're just a horrible driver.
37:10
Speaker 18: Okay, yeah, sure, I really appreciate you reaching out. Thank
37:14
Speaker 18: you so much, Mike. I will follow up with it
37:16
Speaker 18: as well. And just like I told the last caller
37:18
Speaker 18: three four eight eight one seven four, I know my
37:21
Speaker 18: office is listening and we will be dutiful and.
37:24
Speaker 6: Follow up on that.
37:25
Speaker 18: But if you'd like to call me, if you want
37:27
Speaker 18: to check up on us, which I hope folks do
37:29
Speaker 18: three four eight eight one seven four, Andrew or Matthew,
37:33
Speaker 18: leave us your number and either one of the three
37:35
Speaker 18: of us, including me.
37:36
Speaker 6: We make phone calls.
37:37
Speaker 18: At the end of every night of folks that have
37:39
Speaker 18: either emailed us or called us or text us. So
37:41
Speaker 18: thank you for that, Mike. I appreciate you, sir.
37:44
Speaker 3: Okay, thank you, thank you, thank you. You're popular. Hey, hey, Mayor,
37:48
Speaker 3: it's fifteen minutes away from ten. We got another call.
37:51
Speaker 6: Excellent.
37:51
Speaker 3: I think this was Dan Ryan. Is that what you say? Okay,
37:53
Speaker 3: this is Dan Dan. You're on with the mayor. Go ahead,
37:56
Speaker 3: good morning.
37:57
Speaker 9: Thank you for taking my call, sir, Mayor.
37:59
Speaker 2: I'm wondering and.
38:00
Speaker 4: If there's any of the city at Charleston Pools where
38:03
Speaker 4: adults can swim laps.
38:07
Speaker 6: Thank you, Dan.
38:09
Speaker 18: I'll be honest with you, I don't know what our
38:13
Speaker 18: uh what are programming is in this summer. I do
38:16
Speaker 18: know that we have had adult lap swim, but I'll
38:20
Speaker 18: also be quite honest with you. We we also have
38:22
Speaker 18: a lot of kids that show up as well, but
38:25
Speaker 18: we do have some adult swims. But I don't know.
38:28
Speaker 18: If you want to leave your number with Ryan or
38:32
Speaker 18: you want to call me three four eight eight one seven.
38:33
Speaker 6: Four, I'll follow up. I'll follow up on this call
38:36
Speaker 6: with you and see.
38:38
Speaker 9: Sir, I appreciate it. I'll call you at three four
38:41
Speaker 9: eight eight one seven.
38:43
Speaker 18: Thanks Dan, I appreciate you, and congratulations on the lap swim.
38:46
Speaker 6: That's that's hard. That's hard work. Last one, that's hard work.
38:49
Speaker 2: Dan.
38:49
Speaker 3: We appreciate your phone call for ten minutes away from
38:52
Speaker 3: ten uh, Tex says hey, Dave, you can ask the
38:54
Speaker 3: marriored to updates on the Capital Connector project. Oh, thank you,
38:58
Speaker 3: timeline to start question mark, Thank you.
39:00
Speaker 6: So much, sooner rather than later.
39:02
Speaker 18: Roma's completely finished with our planning process, and you know,
39:05
Speaker 18: we hope to get construction underway soon. It's a massive project.
39:08
Speaker 18: If you haven't heard about it, we have been working
39:10
Speaker 18: on this project for many a year, but it was
39:14
Speaker 18: a large project in total, twenty seven million dollars of
39:17
Speaker 18: federal funds. Thank you to Senator Shelley Moore Capito who
39:20
Speaker 18: really championed this for us. And we went to her
39:23
Speaker 18: and she said, how may I help? And so Magic
39:27
Speaker 18: Island to the thirty fifth Street Bridge, and a lot
39:29
Speaker 18: of folks. As a matter of fact, two of my
39:31
Speaker 18: friends said this past weekend they were riding on the
39:34
Speaker 18: far side, the west side that expansion that happened under
39:37
Speaker 18: the Jones administration, how lovely that was. And I said, well,
39:40
Speaker 18: lock it in. It's going to happen from Magic Island
39:42
Speaker 18: to the thirty fifth Street Bridge as well, expansion of
39:45
Speaker 18: bike lanes and foliage and mini parks and some great
39:50
Speaker 18: art and really making it from east to west a bikeable,
39:54
Speaker 18: walkable city, so sooner rather than later, which is.
39:57
Speaker 6: A positive, right, it's a positive.
39:59
Speaker 18: But let me also be quite honest with you, folks,
40:03
Speaker 18: and I appreciate this very much. So it's going to
40:06
Speaker 18: be a massive improvement. We're a river city. We should
40:09
Speaker 18: utilize the river and we will, especially upon completion of
40:13
Speaker 18: this massive twenty seven million dollar project we've been spearheading.
40:17
Speaker 18: But there's going to be a lot of construction, Dave.
40:19
Speaker 18: There's going to be a lot of upset along the way.
40:21
Speaker 18: It just it is what it is. We're going to
40:23
Speaker 18: be as commodating as possible and certainly going to keep
40:26
Speaker 18: traffic flowing. But make no mistake about it, all of
40:30
Speaker 18: the wonderful things that Frank was talking about this morning
40:33
Speaker 18: when he called in Dave about you know, Live on
40:35
Speaker 18: the Levee and regatta and oh, by the way, USA
40:38
Speaker 18: cycling and so all of those things are also top
40:41
Speaker 18: of mind and tip of tongue for our team as
40:43
Speaker 18: we try to navigate moving forward and construction and infrastructure improvements,
40:48
Speaker 18: which has always been our number one in our office,
40:51
Speaker 18: while still maintaining all of those awesome, great events. So lucky,
40:56
Speaker 18: like fore warning is fair warning, Dave is out the
40:59
Speaker 18: fair warning.
41:00
Speaker 3: Twelve minutes away from ten older adults to protect themselves
41:02
Speaker 3: against severe respiratory disease. Talk to your doctor about flu,
41:05
Speaker 3: COVID nineteen and RSV vaccines, risk less, do more, get
41:08
Speaker 3: started Vaccines dot gov paid for by the US Department
41:11
Speaker 3: of Health and Human Services. I know you're going to
41:12
Speaker 3: be leaving us just a little bit early today, but
41:14
Speaker 3: there's a reason.
41:15
Speaker 18: Yeah, there's a reason. I'm absolutely so thrilled. Just a
41:18
Speaker 18: couple of weeks ago we swore in another officer. Today
41:21
Speaker 18: we are swearing in five new Charleston Police officers. I'm
41:26
Speaker 18: absolutely thrilled. In a time in which it's very hard
41:30
Speaker 18: for recruitment of officers across the country, our CPD team
41:34
Speaker 18: is doing an amazing job of recruitment and so I'm
41:38
Speaker 18: really thrilled to be able to swear in five new
41:42
Speaker 18: officers here before too longs though, thanks for letting me
41:45
Speaker 18: dip out early. But I also will say I know
41:47
Speaker 18: your guest coming up, Mayor Jerry Marco of Elkins. I'm
41:51
Speaker 18: going to be with Jerry actually this week. The West
41:54
Speaker 18: Virginia Municipal League, which I'm the vice president of, is
41:58
Speaker 18: coming up, and we host conferences every year, amazing conferences.
42:02
Speaker 18: I'll be with the I'll be with the mayor there,
42:05
Speaker 18: but I'll be with all the mayors from across the
42:07
Speaker 18: state and city council members from across the state, and
42:11
Speaker 18: city managers and clerks and just an amazing opportunity to
42:16
Speaker 18: get together and listen and learn see what other people
42:19
Speaker 18: are doing. Quite frankly, still good ideas from not only
42:23
Speaker 18: our neighbors, but also we have some amazing guest speakers
42:27
Speaker 18: that are coming in. And oh, by the way, I
42:28
Speaker 18: get to introduce one of our guest speakers, and it's
42:31
Speaker 18: Hoppy Kurchable. He's going to be one of our keynotes
42:34
Speaker 18: during the conference.
42:35
Speaker 3: Isn't he retired?
42:36
Speaker 6: I don't think so. I mean, it doesn't seem my tea.
42:39
Speaker 3: No, he's retired. He's retired from the Daily Show. I'd
42:43
Speaker 3: be interested to hear what Hoppy's going to talk about.
42:46
Speaker 18: I know, I'm really excited about it because you know
42:49
Speaker 18: in the room that's his crowd, Dave. I mean, those
42:52
Speaker 18: are folks like me who have you know, I was
42:54
Speaker 18: thinking about as I was writing his introduction. I've known
42:56
Speaker 18: him for over twenty seven years and have worked with
43:00
Speaker 18: them certainly in my former life quite you know, daily
43:04
Speaker 18: sometimes especially during the two different governor's offices that I
43:09
Speaker 18: work directly as communications director. And so he's a smart guy,
43:13
Speaker 18: he's a neat guy. He's engaging, and it will be
43:16
Speaker 18: really interesting to hear his keynote, and also he's such
43:21
Speaker 18: a great guy to offer his time for questions and answers.
43:27
Speaker 18: So it is going to be interesting because you know,
43:29
Speaker 18: the West Virginia Municipal League is a nonpartisan group of
43:33
Speaker 18: the folks who do the heavy lifting, boots on the
43:36
Speaker 18: ground and all of your You know, we have two
43:40
Speaker 18: hundred I think this is right, two hundred and sixty
43:42
Speaker 18: three cities, towns, and villages all across the state of
43:45
Speaker 18: West two.
43:47
Speaker 3: I think it's too thirty two.
43:48
Speaker 6: Okay, that's we're gonna hitting now.
43:52
Speaker 3: I think it's two thirty two. I may be wrong
43:54
Speaker 3: about it.
43:54
Speaker 6: Did you just get that? Will Susan No economy, No.
43:58
Speaker 3: I knew that from my secretary eight days.
44:00
Speaker 6: Is that right? I'm gonna double check.
44:01
Speaker 18: I think it's higher than that, but all right, let's
44:03
Speaker 18: see your under I'm not but you know I've got
44:06
Speaker 18: I've got two kids in college, so I've got zero
44:08
Speaker 18: dollars in this wallet. But I appreciate you allowing me
44:11
Speaker 18: to dip out early to swear in these police officers.
44:14
Speaker 18: And I'm excited to listen to Mayor Jerry Marco later
44:17
Speaker 18: on your show. He's an amazing person, really neat background.
44:20
Speaker 18: Really neat guy. It'll be a great show because he's
44:23
Speaker 18: just a he's a dynamo, Dave, He's a dina.
44:26
Speaker 3: I've never met the gentleman, never interviewing him, so I'm
44:28
Speaker 3: looking forward to that. Yeah, it's really good, all right,
44:30
Speaker 3: swear in some officers a joy.
44:31

47:24
Speaker 3: eight Tony the Taylor text three zero four nine three
47:27
Speaker 3: five five zero zero A. The mayor had to leave
47:29
Speaker 3: us a little bit early today to go swear in
47:30
Speaker 3: five new police officers. If she's listening right now, though, Mayor,
47:34
Speaker 3: your boy here was correct. West Virginia has two hundred
47:38
Speaker 3: and thirty two incorporated places, seventy seven cities, one hundred
47:43
Speaker 3: and forty eight towns, and six villages. I did retain
47:47
Speaker 3: something from my days in state government at the West
47:49
Speaker 3: Virginia Secretary of State's Office, two hundred and thirty two
47:52
Speaker 3: as the number of municipalities in West Virginia. She didn't
47:55
Speaker 3: put money on it, so, and I think it probably
47:58
Speaker 3: would beune ethical for a mayor to gamble on the
48:00
Speaker 3: on the air. To be honest with you, tex says Dave,
48:02
Speaker 3: and mentioning upcoming sports broadcast, the one thing I would
48:04
Speaker 3: love to see happened. WVU football and basketball broadcast returned
48:08
Speaker 3: to WVRC media. The best days we're hearing Tony Coridian
48:12
Speaker 3: Crew on with Steven Jenny on Friday morning's preview. In
48:14
Speaker 3: the next game, West Virginia Radio, please trying to get
48:17
Speaker 3: MSN the mouth in their sports network back, I'd say
48:19
Speaker 3: to V one hundred specifically, noted says the texture some
48:22
Speaker 3: things are out of Dave's hands, though, just so you know,
48:25
Speaker 3: text says about Friday's showing the player from EMBERLND Drive
48:28
Speaker 3: who was making gestures to the Best Virginia fans. That
48:30
Speaker 3: kid and that was in quotation marks is thirty one
48:34
Speaker 3: years old. There was what the texture is referring to
48:38
Speaker 3: was at the conclusion of the Best Virginia loss, the
48:44
Speaker 3: young man who was making some sort of a gesture.
48:46
Speaker 3: One of our textures had an issue with it, and
48:50
Speaker 3: I think I had Strawn on the air with me.
48:52
Speaker 3: I think Jim, you know, may have said something like, well,
48:54
Speaker 3: it's just kids being kids, and you know it's it's
48:59
Speaker 3: over now. At the text it's over now, though, all right, Texas, Dave,
49:06
Speaker 3: why is it? The mayor will take calls, but Riley
49:10
Speaker 3: Moore or Capitol will not. You would have to ask
49:13
Speaker 3: them about that. I guess we certainly would accommodate them
49:17
Speaker 3: if they would like to or any elected official that
49:19
Speaker 3: wants to come on the show to take phone calls,
49:22
Speaker 3: They're certainly welcome. I would say though, that for no
49:27
Speaker 3: matter who is in that position of a Shelley Moore, Capital,
49:32
Speaker 3: Riley Moore, Carroll Miller, any of those, Jim Justice, You're
49:36
Speaker 3: probably going to get a lot more phone calls than
49:40
Speaker 3: with all due respect to mayor a good one or
49:41
Speaker 3: any mayor, probably going to get a lot more phone calls,
49:43
Speaker 3: and they may not be quite as quite as nice.
49:46
Speaker 3: I will say, though, with all due respect to all
49:50
Speaker 3: of our elected officials, the lack of true town halls,
49:54
Speaker 3: to me is quite worrisome, to be honest with you,
49:59
Speaker 3: and I'm I don't care who the elected official is. Republican, Democrat,
50:02
Speaker 3: doesn't make a difference to me. I think you think
50:04
Speaker 3: you need to be out in public. I do. Texas,
50:08
Speaker 3: Dave Economy enter Trump is starting to crumble, still waiting
50:10
Speaker 3: on dollar fifty gas, fifty nine cent dozen eggs. What
50:14
Speaker 3: we see is coffee up ten percent, red meats up
50:19
Speaker 3: thirty percent, cars up five thousand dollars. Take America back
50:22
Speaker 3: again about fifty years As a Texter, DJ Meadows, who
50:27
Speaker 3: will be taking us back I don't know what that means.
50:30
Speaker 21: Uh.
50:30
Speaker 3: He and Dave Wilson will be hosting talk line covered
50:33
Speaker 3: up the how are you missed?
50:34
Speaker 2: Mister?
50:35
Speaker 3: Depending on your perspective, I guess what about this editorial?
50:38
Speaker 3: You are you ruffling feathers again? I'm just writing what's
50:41
Speaker 3: out there? All right? There was an email. I know,
50:44
Speaker 3: go ahead, I know you're gonna talk about it on
50:46
Speaker 3: the show a little bit, but give us.
50:47
Speaker 21: There was an email that went out in mid July,
50:49
Speaker 21: and it was a fundraising email. And look, if you
50:51
Speaker 21: go to run for office, you have to fundraise. I
50:52
Speaker 21: don't fault anybody for that, but this email quote talked
50:56
Speaker 21: about multi day retreats that promise an unforgettab experience featuring
51:01
Speaker 21: delicious dining, engaging activities, and the opportunity to connect with
51:04
Speaker 21: fellow supporters in truly remarkable settings. That came up from
51:07
Speaker 21: a campaign staffer for Governor Morrissey. So he's going to
51:10
Speaker 21: be holding fundraisers in Napa Valley, California, coming up, Dallas, Texas.
51:14
Speaker 21: There's one supposedly that's going to happen in West Virginia
51:18
Speaker 21: that hasn't been named yet. Look out of state campaigning
51:22
Speaker 21: a fundraising, I should say, is really nothing new. It
51:25
Speaker 21: may be somewhat new to a gubernatorial race or re
51:28
Speaker 21: election campaign for governor in West Virginia. You haven't seen
51:31
Speaker 21: governors do it here, at least not that I can find.
51:34
Speaker 21: But plenty of governors have done it. Ron DeSantis did
51:36
Speaker 21: it in Florida in twenty twenty one. Scott Walker did
51:38
Speaker 21: it back in twenty twelve when he was trying to
51:40
Speaker 21: raise money off that referendum and reelection or recall campaign
51:44
Speaker 21: he had to go through. So, you know, is it
51:47
Speaker 21: political status quo? Is it a good thing, is it
51:50
Speaker 21: a bad thing? Does it help West Virginians?
51:52
Speaker 3: Do they care? I don't know.
51:54
Speaker 21: Voters can be the ultimate arbiter of that. I'm simply saying,
51:57
Speaker 21: here's what's happening. Folks deserve to know what their elected
52:02
Speaker 21: officials are doing in terms of how much money they
52:04
Speaker 21: raise and how they raise it.
52:06
Speaker 3: Well. I will say this about Dessandas and Walker, though
52:08
Speaker 3: those are both guys that had national interests.
52:11
Speaker 21: They were both running for president. I think Walker and
52:14
Speaker 21: two things can be true at the same time. I mean,
52:16
Speaker 21: he raised money for governor and he raised money for senator.
52:18
Speaker 21: Talking about DeSantis, Joe Manchin did this in twenty twenty
52:21
Speaker 21: night big fundraiser in Houston. So I'm not being projorative
52:24
Speaker 21: of the governor. I'm just saying, here's what's going on.
52:26
Speaker 21: You the people, can make up your mind what you
52:29
Speaker 21: think about it. You can read that comment share for yourself.
52:31
Speaker 21: It's posted at the website. Mister Meadows, mister Wilson coming
52:34
Speaker 21: up with talk Line.
52:35
Speaker 3: I will be back on this show tomorrow as we
52:39
Speaker 3: will be talking to Daniel Woods. Also Sean Zaniga from
52:41
