- 0:09Here's your host, Alex Garrett, and welcome inside to the Alex Garrett Podcast
- 0:15Network. Boy, it's been a busy week and you know, I want
- 0:17to start a new feature every Wednesday called what Are They Saying Wednesday? And
- 0:22that would be based on Survey Junkie and what surveys they're offering up for you,
- 0:28the average consumer that wants to maybe weigh in on the products you use.
- 0:32They'll actually give you opportunities to get free products for product testing and whatnot.
- 0:37And by the way, you can make money while taking surveys thanks to
- 0:41Survey Junkie. I believe I've seen like seventy four million have been paid out
- 0:46already. It's it's it's quite a number and quite a rewards platform. So
- 0:52Survey Junkie I just started yesterday, joined the journey. Join me if you
- 0:56join my affiliate link on that. It's Survey Thursday out of what do They
- 1:00Saying Wednesday? Survey Thursday today. And one survey that still continues to go
- 1:04on is What's gonna Happen with the gil Go Beach murder murder suspect Rex Herman.
- 1:11And you know, I think I got a caller on my line from
- 1:14Massapequa. Is this Ryan from Massapequa? Yeah, so Ryan, thanks for
- 1:21calling. I barely have a caller to this podcast, so it's great to
- 1:25open up the phone line. I'm just mentioning about the gil Go Beach killer
- 1:29and what's going to happen with him. But being in Massapequa, you have
- 1:33some firsthand accounts of sort of what people are saying out there. Yeah,
- 1:40And I mean, first off, Alex, you know, I really appreciate
- 1:42you having me on your show, so thank you very much for the opportunity.
- 1:46But it's just been a crazy two months since all this stuff went down,
- 1:51with Herman being arrested and just the fact that it came so suddenly.
- 1:57Nobody really expected this to happen. I mean everybody, a massive people.
- 2:02I really thought that, you know, this case was going to be unsolved.
- 2:07I mean it had been over twelve years since these initial murders took place,
- 2:13so you know what was going to change to cause this case to be
- 2:19solved. And ultimately it came down to some new evidence that got uncovered,
- 2:24a pizza across of all things, linking Rex Human to those suspects tragically murdered
- 2:32at Gilgo Beach back in twenty ten. It's really crazy too, because of
- 2:38his because of his life as well, being a white collar worker. Nobody
- 2:44would have ever expected somebody like that to have done all these bad things,
- 2:50to strike a community familion with's here, and yet Rex has done just that.
- 2:55Well, Ryan, I know that you're out there. What are people
- 2:59telling you? What are you what are they saying to you? I mean,
- 3:00is the community rocked? Thousand percent? They are? And at least
- 3:07from those that I've talked to within the community, those that have interacted with
- 3:14Rex in the past, it just seems like a normal guy for the most
- 3:19part, no reason to suspect he'd be a murderer or anything like that.
- 3:23And you know, I knew. I have a couple of friends that actually
- 3:28work at the Starbucks in Massapequa where Rex that actually frequently won't know, he
- 3:34was a pretty customer there, and you know, hearing my friends stories about
- 3:39that, you know, most of the time, the workers at Starbucks,
- 3:44they would get people nicknames depending on their normal orders at all, and Rex
- 3:50happened to get one of those nicknames, obviously not to his face. But
- 3:55I'm trying, I'm trying to recall what drinking was I can't name me it
- 3:59off the top my head, but it was a book of average I believe
- 4:02that was his normal order that he would get usually. But what's interesting about
- 4:08that as well is that Rex would sometimes be winking at some of the baristas,
- 4:14at least courting to those that I've spoken to about it. So there
- 4:18was a little reason to be suspicious there. But to think that he would
- 4:25have, you know, killed a handful of people, Nobody would have ever
- 4:30expected that, especially with the tiny home that he had, had a massive
- 4:34people parked and now everybody's treating like the Amyville horror House. Well, I
- 4:40know there was a huge, huge crowd the day he got arrested. And
- 4:42then you had some colleagues at w RHU. Ryan, by the way it
- 4:45works, is a college student at HASHA and is a w RHU. And
- 4:48I know that's a big deal for you. Ryan. Uh, was there
- 4:51any were you able to get on the scene over there and see what that
- 4:56was like in front of his house. Yeah, so that day I was
- 5:00and able to you know, fun fact that funny enough. Actually I was
- 5:03at nineteen seventy The Answer helping you out with Tommy Sender's show when all this
- 5:11news broken. We had a chief engineer, Andy Glidding, out there to
- 5:14report on the news. Now that was a heck of a report that he
- 5:17gave, but it was just a surreal day the day that Since that day,
- 5:25I would have been able to now because I feel like that's now a
- 5:28tourist the attraction. I hate to say that, but it feels like it
- 5:30is. No, I pretty much is at this point. I mean,
- 5:33everybody's been treating it like the Amityville horror house of sorts, everybody stopping by
- 5:40taking pictures with it and being like, oh, I got a picture right
- 5:43in front of the Gilgo guy's house. You know that's I don't know,
- 5:46there's not plenty you really got to be proud of for the most part post
- 5:50the residential neighborhood as well, the people surrounding living around Human's home. They
- 5:57don't need the attention. I mean, they're just trying to live their lives
- 6:00like anybody else. And I'll be dragged in with and I'll give props to
- 6:05Assol County and the town maass people Park for taking action about that installed.
- 6:12And I don't know if these are still around Huerman's house. I'm willing to
- 6:15bet that they still are, but they had in stole street sign saying no
- 6:20parking anytime in the area in front end, I believe, across from Hurman's
- 6:26home, to try to curb those efforts that many other people are taking to
- 6:33get a picture in front of this guy's house. I mean, his ex
- 6:38wife I believe was still living there at the time, and I mean,
- 6:43it's just devastation the line. But Ryan, you mentioned a lot of these
- 6:47Starbucks. Didn't they give him a nickname as well? You mentioned to me
- 6:50off there, Yeah, they did give him a nickname. Off the top
- 6:58of my head, I could not recall what what specifically the nickname was,
- 7:04but from people that I've talked to that I've worked at that Starbucks, they
- 7:10definitely did get nickname. But you know, I really wish I had the
- 7:15exact one for you here, Ryan, let me ask you real quickly,
- 7:19can with this trow coming up, I'm sure he's gonna probably or the defense
- 7:24will indict others as well or implicate others. Can the town a mass big
- 7:28we handle that if they implicate others that you wouldn't suspect. Oh worry,
- 7:34that's a very good question, Alex. I mean, this community has already
- 7:38been rock I Hureman being exposed for who he truly is, and to be
- 7:46quite frank, it was just a lot of gustation in the community when one
- 7:51guy was arrested two months ago for these murders. I don't really know if
- 7:57they'd be able to handle another arrest if they there was something else that was
- 8:05connected to these verders to some extent. I'm not here to speculate by any
- 8:09means that there were other people involved with these killings, but you know what
- 8:15I'm saying is if you were, there's going to be the type of person
- 8:18and throwing out of people under the bus still people that he was involved within
- 8:24the past, who you know, had knowledge about these killings in the first
- 8:30place, even though allegedly Erects really tack it quiet and somewhat did a good
- 8:37job at it for over a decade, which is crazy for me to be
- 8:41saying, but it wouldn't have really surprise me, but it's yeah, I
- 8:46wouldn't they lead to more devastation for a community that has really dealt with a
- 8:52ton of it, especially this past year. It's been crazy. Are you
- 8:56a lifelong mess people regiments? A lifelong you know. I wish I could
- 9:03say that, but I haven't lived in massive PEAKLA for over twenty years now,
- 9:09so I was a lot of town boy and myself my first year living
- 9:13on this earth, but I was blessed with a year in that there are
- 9:18you know three I believe my family didn't move to Massa peakle and that's pretty
- 9:22much where I've stayed ever since. So a lot of town pride in me.
- 9:26What's going on in your life? Because I hear that you're about to
- 9:30be honored? Is that right? I mean, we we worked together,
- 9:31but what are you being honored for? This week? Yeah? So September
- 9:37twenty ninth, New York State. The Broadcasters Association, it's having a luncheon
- 9:43in Manhattan Excellence of Broadcasting Awards, I believe, and it's at Chelsea Piers,
- 9:50I believe, the Curth restaurant, so really good views overlooking the Hudson
- 9:56River. And as far as what I'm getting honored for, so it's actually
- 10:01an act for w r K. But I did a piece last year during
- 10:07the twenty twenty two so after you've tried to devolved the shooting took place March
- 10:15for our Lives, you know that hold a. They held a big rally
- 10:20in Washington, DC, but they also had smaller rallies going on all throughout
- 10:24the country, and there were a couple on Long Island, Minneola was actually
- 10:28the one that I had a candid forgetting right chieve and that was actually an
- 10:33event that I covered. I got to talk to a couple of the speakers
- 10:37actually about you know, what needs to change to prevent shootings like evolving from
- 10:45happening again, got to talk to a couple of people who participated in the
- 10:50march, but to be able to talking with the march and see how passionate
- 10:54these people were about putting an end to gun violence. I will say it
- 11:01was great to be a part of produced about a three minute news piece actually
- 11:07for w rg's news programming. And yeah, now New York State Broadcasters Association
- 11:13is giving me an award. I actually got one from the Press Club a
- 11:18couple of months ago for the same piece. So now a couple months later
- 11:24with the New York State Broadcasters Association being able to be part of that is
- 11:28I'm humbled and honored. But it's really shows that how much a pleasure it
- 11:35is to be able to be a community journalist of sorts and to be able
- 11:39to cover these stories happening in our backyards and to be able to talk about
- 11:46it getting on a platform. Well, congratulations, Ryan Pagano. And one
- 11:50last thing Islander fans, will they hear you on the broadcast this year?
- 11:56Well, as far as played by play color commentary goes wow, that is
- 12:01well not really Michael mean, but yes, as far as hearing my voice
- 12:05on their airways, I definitely can't expect to hear it, probably not this
- 12:11month but November December room because they usually shuffle the truss they're on for that
- 12:18they usually have a bunch of different people going on air. But yes,
- 12:22you can't expect to hear my voice on the air again, whether it's for
- 12:26a future evening game, sports updates which I have which I could do a
- 12:31little bit of last season, So yeah, this won't be the last time
- 12:37hearing me. Let's just say I love that, all right, Ryan,
- 12:39Well, good luck on everything, and I can't wait to hear about the
- 12:43awards ceremony and whatnot. Maybe I have you back on next week. But
- 12:46thanks for calling into the show today. I appreciate it. As always,
- 12:50Alex, thank you. I'm Alex Garrett. That has been one leg up
- 12:52with Alex S Garrett a surprise calling from Ryan Pagano. Thanks again, Ryan,
