- 0:11That is the theme to ELF. And yes, here on the Alex Scarett
- 0:14Podcast Network, we're gonna start with a bit of a holiday feel because over
- 0:20the weekend in the USA Today, by the way, welcome inside once again
- 0:24to the Alex Skarrett Podcast Network. I'm gonna drop a couple links today for
- 0:29you because it is Giving Tuesday as well. And how about this? How
- 0:35about this for Giving Tuesday? Over the weekend Thanksgiving weekend, the USA Today
- 0:43Weekend had this big headline calling all elves. The one hundred and eleven year
- 0:50old Operation s That's Right program is now one hundred and eleven years old,
- 0:55which handles letters addressed to Santa at the North Pole to brighten kids across the
- 1:03country, you know, their holiday season and give them a bit of hope
- 1:07as their holiday wishes are being heard and even fulfilled. But here's the thing
- 1:14about Operation Santa. They're looking for helpers to open hearts and adopt North Pole
- 1:21letters. The US Postal Service, according to USA Today Weekend and Susan Miller,
- 1:29opened its annual Operation Santa letter adoptions on November twentieth, before Black Friday,
- 1:36and the earliest kickoff to date. Now the Postal Service is in search
- 1:41of elves who can make visions of sugar plums dance into reality for those facing
- 1:47a strapped winter. So yes, in the spirit of the holiday season,
- 1:55of the Christmas season, and of the arrival of Santa. I think it's
- 2:00pretty interesting to point out that operations stant there, which is a seasonal tradition,
- 2:07a Christmas tradition, needs your help, and I want to point that
- 2:13out to you here on the Alex Scarrett podcast network, he goes, how
- 2:16awesome would it be to, Yeah, I'm unfolding a newspaper in twenty twenty
- 2:21three to make a kid's day and a kid's Christmas season. I think it'd
- 2:29be pretty cool. Here's what people have told The USA Today. Senior public
- 2:45relations representative super Runnan told the USA Today said this program is unlike anything else
- 2:53in the Postal Service in every aspect. Employees will get involved, are in
- 2:58awe of the program's history and the sheer joy it brings. So many Santa
- 3:05letters must include the writers and first, first and last name, a complete
- 3:08return address including street, apartment number, city, state, and ZIP code.
- 3:16People can adopt the letters through the online channel at USPS Operation Santa dot
- 3:23Com and create an account and make sure idea is verified. All adoptions are
- 3:30digital. Each registered person can adopt it to fifteen letters, so we as
- 3:38adults can maybe bring back that kid's spirit by helping those in need this Christmas
- 3:46and become an Elf for Santa. For Operation Santa. All letters must be
- 3:55postmarked by December eleventh. The letters are open at Santa's mailroom. Personal information
- 4:01is redacted and the letters are uploaded onto the Postal Service website. Some of
- 4:08the most heart melting words come from those looking out for family members. Brennan
- 4:13said, these letters make me cry. The writers with Christian gifts for others
- 4:16are selfless and beautiful. One letter wrote, my name is Elizabeth, Dear
- 4:28Santa. My name is Elizabeth. I am a single mom. I have
- 4:30three kids, two daughters and one son. This year has been hard on
- 4:40us. My four year old was diagnosed with leukemia and as saying, a
- 4:45children's hospital doing chemo. This would help a lot. One writer is Jacqueline
- 5:00in the sixth grade. Please make a Christmas miracle and make Nana better.
- 5:09So those are just a few examples of why US Operation USPS Operation Santa must
- 5:15go on this Giving Tuesday and every season and every Christmas season because kids are
- 5:23writing, people are writing, adults are writing to bring hope into their lives.
- 5:30And I think it'd be awesome if people listen to this podcasts then signed
- 5:34up and adopted these letters. And you can find more in the information below
- 5:43in this description. Also, this Giving Tuesday, I'm gonna drop a link
- 5:46as to why you should help out the Viscardi Center, the Henry Viscardi Center.
- 5:53You'll hear from doctor Chris Rosa, the current president of Viscarti, doctor
- 5:57Henry Viscardi, the founder, the man behind it all. You'll hear his
- 6:04words as to why he created this center in the nineteen fifties after World War
- 6:13Two. And then you let from Joe Salonica, who of course runs wheelchair
- 6:18basketball and adaptive sports and is a big part of the games for the physically
- 6:24challenged. You'll hear his story below, and then I'll drop the lingus to
- 6:29where you can donate this Giving Tuesday and those is an opportunity to make kids
- 6:36with disabilities and young adults with disabilities have a chance, have a fighting chance,
- 6:48be enabled to live a filling life. And God bless that this other
- 7:00story on my mind because of this Christmas season. It's a holiday season,
- 7:05but it's also the month of the sixtieth anniversary of the tragedy that was the
- 7:12assassination of John F. Kennedy, Junior. And to me, what he
- 7:26said and what I found before the American Newspapers Publishers Association, it's kind of
- 7:40crazy considering all the conspiracies surrounding his assassination. Let's know what JFK in his
- 7:47own words said about telling the truth. It's of official censorship and concealment that
- 7:56I do not intend to permit to the extent that it's in my control.
- 8:01And no official of my administration, whether his rank is high or low,
- 8:05civilian or military, should interpret my words. He had a knight as an
- 8:09excuse to sense of the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our
- 8:15mistakes, or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve
- 8:20to know. And how about that? You go and then you watch the
- 8:24documentary featuring the Parkland doctors, and my goodness, my goodness, looks like
- 8:35there was a lot of covering up. There was a lot of disinformation by
- 8:43our own government surrounding the Kennedy assassination. So not only did they dishonor President
- 8:52Kennedy, but they dishonored his wishes. And I often find that maybe perhaps
- 9:05there is a bit of a karma on this government, that that assassination is
- 9:11why nothing can get done today. That's a sixty year lingering effect, Ladies
- 9:18and gentlemen. On the Alex Garrett podcast network, I said it a sixty
- 9:22year lingering effect because the only stuff that's gotten done, it feels like since
- 9:33the assassination was a gonnis into wars. But if you watch and read Jeff
- 9:39Greenfield's column If JFK Had Lived, It's a whole book in the political magazine
- 9:48the History Department. Would JFK have lost had he lived? By Jeff Greenfield,
- 9:56author of If He Lived. Here's what mister Greenfield surmises here. He
- 10:20says that JFK would not have escalated the war in Vietnam. As a candidate,
- 10:30Kennedy proposed aggressive tactics in Vietnam, effectively overseeing the birth of the Green
- 10:37Berets and putting advisers in South Vietnam, but he also had skepticism about involvement
- 10:56in the region. Year back, he rejected the advice of his Joint chiefs
- 11:05according to mister Greenfield and former President right alisor to engage in military action allows
- 11:20he resisted the urging of his military chiefs during the Cuban Missile crisis to bomb
- 11:24the missile sites. He would reply to her advisors urging greater involvement in Vietnam
- 11:31by telling them that if they could get Douglas McCarthy to approve that if Douglas
- 11:39MacArthur to approve the idea of a land war in Asia, he might agree.
- 11:43November twenty first, nineteen sixty three, he told aid Mike forstral as
- 11:50he was leaving for Texas, to organize a top to bottom review of every
- 11:56option we've got, including how we get out there. He did not want
- 12:01to be there, despite putting advisors or do not want to be there.
- 12:09The political impact of leaving Vietnam would have been serious, as Jeff Greenfield with
- 12:16the Republicans and Hawkins Democrats are creusing him of appeasement. But that is answer
- 12:20number one. He did not want to escalate the war. Did not want
- 12:28to escalate the war. But isn't it funny that after he is shot and
- 12:35killed and assassinated boom escalation war happens that doesn't feel like an accident. And
- 12:46I believe that the assassination of JFK has left a huge karma on this country
- 12:54that it's it's going to take a hero to overcome that. Interesting enough.
- 13:09Jeff Greenville also says the nineteen sixties would have been a lot less angry assuming
- 13:16Kennedy did not escalate in Vietnam. The tenor of the times might have well
- 13:22been different had he not been assassinated. Left wing Students for Democratic Society began
- 13:31as a relatively reformist, not radical movement. Without Vietnam, the descent of
- 13:39SDS into competing factions of delusions maust versus Weathermen would not have happened. I
- 13:50really want to get this book if Kennedy lived, by Jeff Greenville, because
- 13:52it's fascinating stuff. The one other most likely that would have happened is that
- 14:03JFK's private life would have become public. Greenfield predicted. We all know Kennedy
- 14:15ran around with different women, and it was hard for Jackie and Jackie Oh
- 14:20and whatnot, but it stayed relatively private. The media began to look hard
- 14:35at the presidence of behind behavior in the last months of Kennedy's life, as
- 14:41far as October nineteen sixty three Clark Melanov Molanov of the Des Moines Register.
- 14:50So the evidence is likely to include identification of several high executive branch officials involved
- 14:56with Ellen Romans. A frequent White House visitor, Jaegger Hoover knew about Kennedy's
- 15:09philandering, and it's possible that you know, there could have been leaks if
- 15:30JFK was around for the nineteen sixty four election, by Hoover himself. By
- 15:37Hoover himself, what would that sound like? Call me me writing memos leaking
- 15:41it to the press? Hello? He Also, it sounds like he's pointing
- 15:46out that FBI directors have been disgruntled every so often to the point of leaking
- 15:56or possible leaks if Kennedy was a lot. But here's the most interesting part
- 16:07of the story. It's possible that Kennedy's could have used the power of the
- 16:11office to keep all the rumors under wraps. There was, after all,
- 16:17no social media, no drudge to bring the story into public attention outside the
- 16:26traditional press, with plenty of tools of intimidation, which his father, Joe
- 16:33Kennedy was great at. By the way, Oh, by the way he
- 16:37finishes off this little bit excerpt. The best we can offer is that had
- 16:44Kennedy lived, there were multiple people with the knowledge, the means, the
- 16:48desire, and the opportunity to finish Kennedy politically, and then his place in
- 16:53history would have been radically different. Had Kennedy lived, Affairs or not,
- 17:02I think we would have been prosperous. I think we would have been peaceful.
- 17:06I think we would not have gone anywhere to the level of Vietnam that
- 17:11we went to. That would have changed the course of American history. I'm
- 17:15only thirty two years old, but I know how bad it got. I
- 17:19know about it got because when I thank the Vietnam vet for his service,
- 17:23he's like, don't thank me for killing innocence. That's the mindset of the
- 17:29Vietnam War vets, and that's a problem. That's a problem. The other
- 17:37interesting note here, I would say was that in nineteen sixty three, at
- 17:45the time of the assassination, unemployment was a five percent, declining inflation rate
- 17:51one point two percent, real economic growth four point four percent, and the
- 17:56year's budget predicted a modest surplus of five hundred million dollars. At that time,
- 18:08if Kennedy had lived. Jeff Greenfield, doctors of Parkland that saw everything
- 18:15right there and the disasters following of just even the way they looks like they
- 18:29marked up his body so it looked like part of the head wasn't missing,
- 18:33as part of the brain wasn't missing, but it was the JFK went splait.
- 18:44Is the day America's karma fell flat and really decreased. And to this
- 18:57day that karma's felt, that anti American sentiment that was felt in the nineteen
- 19:04sixties is still felt today. Just by burning our biggest allies flag of Israel,
- 19:12you are saying you are being anti American as well. But if they
- 19:21did not kill Kennedy, if Kennedy was not shot and here to at least
- 19:29try, you know, to do things during his presidency, we would all
- 19:34have a different course. Or maybe that assassination had to happen so that we
- 19:44could be talking about this together on the Alexa Garrett podcast network. But I
- 19:51do think the Kennedy assassination was a hit to the karma of America. That
- 20:06and I'm usually an optimist. We may never recover from, but we collectively
- 20:12who love America to this day can band together and aspire to carry on that
- 20:19legacy that JFK left us and was tragically cut short from completing on November twenty
- 20:33second, nineteen sixty three.
