- 0:00SPEAKER_00: In this episode, Brendan's not here.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I fight back on last week's drubbing that I took.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: We talk news, Oops winter, Phil's return from Siberia for the HIL, and we introduced a brand new betting section.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: So next to Welcome back to Let's Stick Together, brought to you by Y1.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: It is episode two, but for me it's episode one.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I can only apologise to Yup, who was was punctual and professional last week and did a did a grand job of stepping up being the host.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Um I'm uh we've only there's two of us this week, Brendan decided not to join us.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Um so we're back as a duo.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Hope that people are happy with that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Yup.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Are you okay?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: You you relaxed now that you're not you know under pressure to be the host.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Um as you know, Philip, I thrive under pressure.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: So uh I felt like I uh uh I uh I I I delivered well, if I if I have to say so myself.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Um uh I'm a bit as last week, and I think my point is being made clear even more this week.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: I think I'm uh starting to see that I'm the glue who's holding everything together here.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: I always thought it was you, but actually I am, I think.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Um being here on time, doing my work, delivering the goods.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Is that what it gets to?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So we're on season eight, it's the first one I've missed.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Um and that's that's the one strike and you're out.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Is that how it goes?
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: It's like it's like with golf, Philip.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: It takes a thousand shots uh to get confidence, and it takes one shot to one shank and it's all gone.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: Uh so yeah, it's it's a bit like that.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: You uh uh the the lack of like you had a very very valid reason uh for missing out, the but the lack of communication uh that that that got that got us into me do me and Brendan going to do a uh a recording together is what kind of uh set me off.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Uh but uh again, I think as I said, I thrive under pressure.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: I think uh I delivered and Brendan uh got on the band wing and we no Brendan did well as well.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: So but here we are again with the two of us.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've just thought in different we can go in different directions with this podcast.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: I made a load of comments from last week.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Um, so we can either start with that and you can defend yourself or you can we can break down last week's episode, or we can do what I planned for last week's episode and talk about probably more hockey and and stuff like that.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Which which way do you want to go?
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: We can do both.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: We can we can start now with your uh uh because uh we gave we did give give you some shit.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I think you're uh to give the listeners some perspective, Phil in the group was being very, very sensitive, being being the little bitch he can sometimes be.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And uh to defend myself, and all you guys were very rude.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And I thought I thought we were actually being very nice to you.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: I even I even said you were still your prime was still yet to come, but all you heard heard was me bitching about you, which in fairness we also kind of did.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Uh so I think let's first go through that, go through all the whole shenanigans of you trying to defend yourself, and all the points I've especially I made were completely valid, completely uh factual, and very, very honest.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then afterwards we can talk about uh hockey again, what I think what people actually tune in for.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I'm very curious about your thoughts.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I'll I'll maybe run through this, or maybe you can argue each point.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Let's see how we go.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: The first one is is that you you kind of used it as a platform to do it without me arguing back.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: So the the thing I wrote down is is you made me out to be a non-defending, non-passing, tactically unaware, underachieving diva.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and I I wrote down probably a bit harsh.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Well, to me, okay.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: My my my uh response to that is uh there is a platform for you to respond on, uh, which is this podcast, which you organize mostly.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Um, but you decided not to show up.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: That's not my fault.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: I bring the exact same points I bring when you are here, uh, which are the points I've made.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: Uh Phil, I never said you were bad passing, just don't look because you never pass.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: You might be very good at it, but you never do.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Uh whatever I say, uh, what what else there?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Uh non-defending, non-passing, tactically unaware, underachieving diva.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you focus so much on the negative again.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: You are all those things.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Let's be honest.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: You don't really you you can't really defend, you don't pass.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: You you have an amazing left-to-right dribble.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Your dribbling is is when you have the ball, it's very tough to take it off you.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: We just decided to not speak on that.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: You're a very good hockey player, Phil.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Otherwise, you don't play 200-something caps for GB.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: But you're also very, very shit at a couple things, which I decided to name because I was a bit emotional and frustrated.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: You went there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Is that that harsh?
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I think I think in my opinion, I think it is harsh, but we'll move on.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, you said you wanted my chest, was really random.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: You don't have to, you don't have to you don't have to comment back on that.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Um, Spain, India.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: I will I will comment, I will comment back on that.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: That's again, you take it's a compliment.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: You have a nice, nice looking chest, Philip, and I don't.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: So if I would take one body part of you, it would be your chest.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm not gonna take your stupid facial hair or your your muffin top.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna take your chest.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Is that that weird to say?
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Let's crack on.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Next one.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Watch some of these observations, they're not all me having a go.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, I thought that was super random.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Um, Spain, India, and Netherlands.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I took that very nicely.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I thought that was good comments that I would enjoy playing for all of them teams.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I wrote down that I think you might have a problem with abandonment.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Um like uh along with you know, like this whole like me leaving OR, uh, my child got ill.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So so I feel like there probably needs to be a bit more self-reflection and thinking that potentially you don't have to go so hard on me.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: But again, I think we can we can pass on that.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Uh you did a quote saying we were swimming.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Don't don't skip over Philip, don't skip over this part so easily.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Again, now you're trying to play the victim again.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Um uh in like my chart was real and oh I have to do this and that.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Again, I said it as a very valid reason, but then you also gotta take it when you decide to fuck off the podcast, the one you also made you also set up.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: You also gotta take a little bit of criticism, which wasn't a lot, which wasn't a lot, and take it on the chin.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Maybe I have some issues with abandonment, but maybe I'm I'm just so confident in my friends showing up for a podcast.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: They started and I tried and I try and succeeded in bringing to the next level that I expect some uh some uh level of uh accountability in showing up, and you decided to to don't, so I gave some some criticism.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, get over it, Philip.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Okay, so so most of this I think you can probably turn around and say it's me being defensive.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: I just wrote down notes, so maybe we'll we'll if you think it's just me being defensive now, you could just tick it and we'll just go to the next one.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: No, I'm curious about the next one to be done.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, your quote is um we're here swimming around in our own sorrow.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: That was you or Brendan.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I thought that was hilarious.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So congratulations to you guys.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Um, have I still got it?
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Was an amazing question.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, just really, really enjoyed that one.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Um, you kept trying to insult me really.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: What I took it as is you kept insulting me, you know, to a certain extent, and then realizing that I listened to it so you turned it back into a compliment, which again I enjoyed it quite a lot.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I write, I wrote tackling bitchiness for fuck's sake, it carries on.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Um a diva, which is uh yeah, the only compliment, the only comment I had on this was that um people are allowed to change.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Um we sometimes view people as just they're either bad or good players, they're either bitches or not bitches, they're either um horrible with umpires or they aren't horrible with umpires.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Um, I feel like I've changed, I've matured.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I'm still a little bit diva, but a lot less diva.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: So that was my comment on that one.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Um Brendan said interesting 48 times in 50 minutes, which annoyed me.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Um David Spade.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I would like to play Brendan in our movie.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: He's the short guy with rubbish hair that is American and has a goatee.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's also in grown-ups, right?
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, I can I can see that.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can see it.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Uh I also wrote for you, Jesse Tyler for you though.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Who?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Um, he's out of modern family.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: He's uh married to Cam.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: For me.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, it's a okay.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: I'll give you credit.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: That's a funny one.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Philip, you see, I'm a bit annoyed that Brendan isn't here that we can like make this uh make it like a two.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I'm sure it would be a uh him defending himself as well.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it was I uh let we could do you want to knock it on the head or you got any final comments?
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: No, here's my this that's this is my point.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I feel if you decide to not show up for the podcast, I feel I have every right to bitch about you and um uh say shit about you because uh you decided to not be here, so we can talk all the shit we want about Brendan.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: He has a chance, he knows when we're recording the podcast.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: You also know you you have a chance to defend yourself, you just choose to not to not defend yourself.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: So uh you you you both of you have to stop being so sensitive about being talked about because you have a chance.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: There is a platform to defend yourself, you just choose to not be here.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so get over it, stop being so English and accept the consequences of your actions.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I'll just note it down for the future that that you know we can add a Brendan.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: We we we're not gonna add a Brendan segment because that go on too long.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And the next time you miss a podcast, I'm probably not gonna make a you segment either.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Um, right, should we get on to the hockey?
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Um I actually was just hoping that you didn't really do it last week.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: So we've been away for three months, uh maybe a little bit longer.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Um, that quite a lot of stuff has happened in that time.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: I thought I'd give you a platform and I'll talk a little bit about my time um for from the last three months and kind of what you've done hockey-wise, what you've seen, and then we can we can go from there.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Um for me it's actually been quite a quite a uh an easy winter to be honest.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: As in uh normally uh the winter is specked with international uh international duties, uh being away a lot, and it kind of it kinda it wasn't that bad to be honest this uh this winter.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Uh we only had a trip to uh Australia for uh a bit more than three weeks, uh which was uh let's be honest, being in Australia is always uh fucking awesome.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: Um so it was really good.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Played four product matches, two against Australia, two against Spain.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Uh lost one against Australia, drew one against Australia, won on shootouts, and won twice against Spain.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, I think it was um to be honest, that it wasn't that eventful, besides the fact that Australia, uh as I said, is just a really awesome place.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: We slept in uh apartments, so we had to cook ourselves, make our own uh dinner, uh breakfast, lunch, which was pretty cool.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, you get to know people on a different level.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: You see the the the student vibe really get out, uh especially at the younger guys uh who some of them have never lived on their own, so had to you had to teach how to how a dishwasher works and shit.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Um you're gonna name a shame there or no?
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Nah, nah, just not no not gonna name shame.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: I was actually in an apartment which with guys who were very well um um very self-liant and who could do a lot of sales and were very helpful.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: But I found from other parts that there was it more uh more of a struggle there, but that's also this I think that's like the the funny part of being in a post because I when I first went to Australia I I had no clue how to even make how to bake an egg uh and how to make a fried egg or whatever.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Uh so I kind of recognized myself and now I was Billy Big Boss knowing thinking I knew everything and telling them uh how stupid they were that they didn't know when I didn't know at their age as well.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do you know you know how to fry an egg?
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Billy Big Balls, and now do know how to fry an egg, and actually I make a mean pasta, Philip.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, as I said, quite uh uneventful now.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, like I spoke about uh like we spoke about last week when you weren't there.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Um season I started with OR again and uh yeah.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: So you had you had quite an eventful winter, to be honest.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, before we before we get on to me, because we will, I'm sure, but um a couple of questions like first of all, I know that you wouldn't have roomed with um your best friend Vortelboer, the carrot farmer.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: So who did you room with?
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: And I guess the other question I've got is that you you've you're in the middle of bringing in a load more talented young guys, um, who have you enjoyed training with, playing with, who did well out in in Sydney, um, and who's what like who are the people to watch out for basically?
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: Uh so I roomed with uh Svon Bam, the first part.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Um one guy, uh first winner half, and then we the I roomed with the boo from the boss, young corner guy, uh, which was both was uh perfectly fine.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Um I did come to the realization that uh the habits Wattle and me created are not normal for uh everyday uh people.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Uh I'll spare a lot of you guys the details, but uh we've kind of grown so much towards each other that we um yeah, kind of have our own habits, which yeah, again, apparently are not normal.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Uh boundaries, boundaries are probably not not much, not not much in place with you two.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Boundaries are not really there.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's a bit yeah, again, I I want people to take me somewhat serious, so I won't spare I'll spare you the details, but like, yeah, so but it was really good uh uh uh and and fun to be in a different group, also with a lot of young guys.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Like we missed quite a lot of experienced players, so there was a lot of like younger guys, which brought in a different dynamic, which was uh which was fun uh and and different, and we also had during the trip a lot of free time, um which was like fun.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: We had a surf clinic.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Uh we uh we what else did we we went to uh an American Australian football uh team and had like a clinic there, so we did a lot of fun stuff, uh, which was cool.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Uh and the players to watch out for.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Uh I think the obvious ones are uh are both uh Miles Buckens, uh P2K player, Young Striker, and uh uh pijn van der Heyde.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: Corner guy from Rotterdam.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Uh had a had a belter of a game against Australia by flicking in two crucial corners.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Uh flicks it really, really hard.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Um he's kind of the next he's pretty young, he's 23, 22, so he's like the next next up corner guy uh from Yip.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Uh I think together with Timo.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: And Miles Buckens is such an atypical international striker.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Not the quickest, not the most like like he's not like the most uh athletic striker, but he he makes it work so well.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: He's very smart in the D, has a very like arrhythmic kind of skill, if that makes sense.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Like he he he starts his action or finishes his action where you don't really expect it, and scores a lot of goals.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: He already has like 20-something goals in Holland in the hoofklass, and we still have seven games left.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Uh has a penalty corner which is like very atypical as well, drags it a long way, but like has a good fake in it.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: So I think those were the two kind of stood out the most to me.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Uh uh, and I'm also I'm a I'm kind of a fan of Luc Domershuezer, um uh from the like the newer guys who got in.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Uh very like skillful uh player from Amsterdam, uh who I think still needs a bit of how do you say it?
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Like more not more confidence, but needs to like loosen up a bit more at national team.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Like he's still young, so he still wants to sometimes play it safe when I see when I look at him at Amsterdam.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: He he fucks up a lot of people with his skills.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: So uh I'm also I'm a and I roomed with and he was in my apartment, and he's a really, really, really funny guy and really good guy.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: So I really enjoyed uh that's why he kind of has my I'm in the scorer if that makes sense.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's always it's always kind of a fun time when the cycle ends, and you know that there's new guys coming in, and it's it's kind of interesting to see who who can like hit the ground running, who gets international hockey super fast, and like can just pick it up and you know make an impact, and then who are the guys that take a little bit more time.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Um, because like someone like I was watching, like Lucas Vane seems like a really nice player, um seems like really comfortable already when he plays.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Um I also completely agree with Miles Buckens.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: He's seems seems incredibly tricky in the D with his like wide base, the way he carries the ball.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: You don't really want to have get him having the ball in the D, basically.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: And to be honest, I think a lot of guys did it.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Like, like there wasn't no one stood out negatively if that makes sense.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Everyone kind of did their thing, and especially because we had such a new group, no one really stood out, in my opinion, as in everyone kind of melted in and did did their own thing.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: I think that was uh yeah, it was good.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: Good trip.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And and you I guess we can quite easily go on to the to the pro league, uh, because we can't we can we'll get on to some other stuff, but like the pro league at the they've actually changed it.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: The FIH, in my opinion, have done something really good because they've made sure that halfway stage in the pro league that everyone will have played eight games, everyone will have played the same amount, so you actually have some kind of standings where you can actually understand who's doing well, who's doing badly.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: In the men's side, it's fucking close.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the men's side between positions one and seven, there is only four points.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a nine-team tournament.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: So England are winning uh top with Belgium at the moment, then India on 16 points, both them, then India on 15, Netherlands on 14, Germany on 13, and Australia and Spain on 12.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: It just makes it, I think, looking at the table, looking at the results, looking at the fixtures in the summer, I think it makes it probably the most exciting it's it's ever been.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's really really close, and now it's also cool.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Uh as in a lot of teams started like bringing a lot of new players and young players, but I feel like it's it's like a it's like a breath of fresh air if that makes sense.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Because I think the more new players get in, the more they want to like improve them themselves so the the probably gets more buzz, if that makes sense.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: So like we played in Sydney, and apparently, usually Sydney crowd is like not that um full, as in Sydney's not like a real hockey place in Australia.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Like I think Melbourne and especially Perth are like better visited, but it was quite full because there were a lot of like debut players from Australia, a lot of good debut players as well.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: So it was uh it's it's fun, and I think uh it's cool to that it it's still so open the pro league.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Like no team has won everything, and every team loses a couple games, wins a couple games, so it's good.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: And I like you say, I think it's maybe the hunger of the new players as well.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I think that's something to be yeah, that's what I mean.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, they just everyone is playing super hard, everyone's trying to break in and be the guy in the you know, break into the team that has maybe has, for example, like you guys have still uh a a huge amount of Olympic gold medal experience, but yet you've got you know five, six, seven, eight guys who are knocking at the door trying to break into that team and who look like completely viable to be able to do so.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, we we've England, for example, have missed uh I haven't played a game uh yet.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: We had all of our guys who are playing in Holland didn't go to India.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: We had a load of guys who are out with injury, like uh David Goodfield, uh David Condon, um James Oates, for example, and it's given these guys you know went out to India with a very, very inexperienced team.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And they competed and got some amazing results out there, and it gives them the ability to step into the team.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: And some of the guys played incredibly well.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Probably got a standout performance, probably from like Jacob Payton, who uh played up front for England, has scored a few goals, is absolutely rapid.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: So it's it's it again a uh another probably plus of the pro league that you get to watch these new guys, they get fixtures, people under their belts, and we go into the summer with a bit of excitement.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, cool.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Um, just before I guess we would touch on the women because um the the women's pro league table again is is fairly tight between the bottom four teams, there's only four points, and the top five teams there's only five points.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Netherlands are actually making it a bit interesting because they've drawn one and lost one, which is absolutely mental, having only played eight games in the pro league.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Um, do you have any takes on that as to why that is?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: As to why uh sorry Netherlands women they've actually played eight, won six, drew one and lost one, which for them is a bit a bit abnormal.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, new coach, new team, as in kind of a new team.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Xander Wa didn't play.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: I think uh Yibi Jans uh didn't play all uh Freak Mousse didn't play all, like quite important players uh didn't play all their games.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: Uh new coach always takes a while to implement new new systems and shit, especially I think in the women's hook it's even more tactical game, I think, than it is with the men's, with where it's often more run and gun.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, if you have to say that drawing a game, losing a game, and winning six is already um uh not a good performance, it says a lot about how incredibly fucking sick that team is, right?
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Agreed, because they're still top of the table, probably without with no one really, really close.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: But it's it's funny that already because I I had the same thought, but it's funny you already think hmm, they're not performing at their best when they just lost one game and had shootouts with one and one six with big numbers as well.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I mean it's just I mean, I'm me logging on and looking at it very basically is that they're Belgium and Belgium are two points away from them, China are three points away from them, and normally you just don't see that the normally the gap just gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and they just go in go ahead and run away with it.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Actually, maybe you know, we could be looking at for once an exciting pro league where the Netherlands women don't just run away with it.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: Would be good, would be good if it happens, yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, we are gonna come back after the break, and we will be talking more hockey.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, the news.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: A couple of I guess a couple of big things, especially to do with Let's It Together.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Firstly, I can't believe you guys didn't talk about this last week, but the there's been you know retirements, a couple of retirements left, right, and centre.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: But the biggest one at Let's It Together is obviously the mourning of of a David Ames.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: He's hung up his stick finally.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: He's uh still playing his, he's still running around, hobbling around for OGs, but he is uh he's hung up his his his GB hat.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: You do you got any comments about that?
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Is he really running around at OGs or is it like is he running?
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I said hobbling.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Hobbling, yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: I think hobbling will be more more of a no.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: I think it's uh it's uh it's um it's a loss for international hockey.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Is he already Sir David Ames or is he just David Ames?
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: No, he's not.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: We should actually plug him as well.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: He has uh he has a new a new uh hobby slash job.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: David Ames photography, if anyone's you know, wanting some some something done for them, weddings, he does events, he does sporting stuff, he's got his drone, he's very talented.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Check him out, David Ames Photography on Instagram.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, that's a weird way to celebrate his retirement.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: He was he was an amazing servant for both Ireland and GP in England for so long.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be too soft, but yeah, we wish him all the best for for what is coming on.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: I probably need to look at any other retirements that are coming up.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: And another big bit of news is Zach Jones is the new GB coach, GB in England coach.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: I think I think I'm sorry, Philip, but we skipped a bit too quickly past uh David Ames' retirement.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: I want to wish him uh congratulations on a very cool career.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: Um I also wanted to uh like it's it's special that you can retire twice, as in he retired uh Ireland a couple years ago, and now he retires uh as an English player.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: So good on him.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: Congrats on an amazing career.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: It's been an it's been another playing against you, but um David.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna for me he's a sir, he's a Sir David now.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Well, that's how we refer to him.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Like like I was saying, um Zach Jones has become the new England and GB coach.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Um, again, not a huge amount to comment on.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: I think it was a natural succession, having been the assistant coach and done a pretty pretty great job uh over the last few years.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Um, and especially kind of Rev's stepping down so soon was a bit out of the blue, and I think Zach has took the reins and obviously done, as I just said, we're top of the pro league, has done a really, really good job um in his in his interim job.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: So I I thought it would have been incredibly harsh to go in a different direction.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Um you Pat, I don't suppose you know Zach too well.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: I don't suppose you've got any thoughts, but I'll just leave them with you in case you do.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: He seems like a very nice guy.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: I have no clue if he knows anything about hockey.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: I don't know if he's a good coach, but he always I feel like I have like uh like a like a some sort of connection with him when we when when after the game.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: And do it does he listen to the podcast?
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Almost certainly not.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Because I was when I give him like high five, it always seems like he's he's yeah, you're right.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, yeah, you're right.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: I think he'll he's not Australian again, but fair enough.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Based on based on that, oh he's not Australian.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Oh he's he looks Australian.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Based on absolutely fuck all, I think he's doing well.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: I have no clue if I was anything about hockey, but what about you?
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: And by the way, the Bo League Stanks, I think you're like being tough the pro label, uh it's also kind of a bit colored, right?
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Let's be honest.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: You guys haven't played Holland, Belgium, Germany, or like or like come on Holland, Belgium, Germany, and Australia is you can only do what you can do with the teams you're up against.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Oh you can only do what you do with teams in Africa.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm Philip Roper.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well done, Philip.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Congrats on being first and congrats on Zach Jones for earning the earning the GB spots for being top of the pro league table.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: You're such a sarcastic wanker.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Right, moving on.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: Um any other yeah, you I guess we normally come to you very early for this, but how is your OR OR stuff going?
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: I know that there's been the struggles, but do you are we gonna moan about it or if we got positive news?
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: We're we're not we're not like this hear me.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: So we're not doing too bad, to be honest.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: We're not we're just not really scraping the points together.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: We kinda we kinda we kinda need like we had a really big game against Kampong, and it was like a like the season is not over yet, because there's like seven games, and it a lot can still happen, and we still have like a lot of the the lower ranked teams we still have to to face.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: So I still genuinely believe we can reach playoffs.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: But like you play against Kampong, you feel like if you win, you're in the like you're you're in a very good position, and you lose 4-1.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Really, like there was not a moment in the game you felt like we're gonna win it, to be honest.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of uh demoralizing when you when you when you go there with high hopes, warm up as good, you're like oh pumped, oh yeah, yeah, 3-1 down at half time.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's just it's it's a bit shit.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: Uh and it's also like we've we have a very young goalie now, uh, I think as as been said, Nikki Verbake, and he's done so well up until now.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: He's like he's done very well.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: I really can't.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: We conceded a lot of goals, but it's not not because of him.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: And this was like the first time he he didn't have like a good game, like the the corners from Yeb Jansen, which again it's it's Jib Jansen, so it's not a shame to get a couple corners against, but like he felt he he underperformed, and it was the first time, like, and which is like actually a big compliment in that a 19 or 20 year old, I don't know how exactly how old he is, especially as a goalie, which is like an experience um profession, that the first time he hasn't really played a good game, which says a lot about how talented he is, because it took him a while to have a bad game for our club.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: But it was like such a like a such a moment in which you're like, ah fuck.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: We're actually like we feel like we're close, but also not not really because we don't really win the big games yet.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but I feel like if we can we can set it, we have so much quality that if we can make like a small streak, we can still be very dangerous in the league.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: But uh uh yeah, it's been a it's been like uh it's been an up and down season up until now, and I hope the way up is now being found again.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: I think if if I was to chuck my my two cents in, it would be that like on the when you watch you play or you see your lineup, it's like you're always gonna have good possession, you're always gonna have really nice ball players, it's always gonna look very nice, but then like what would you look for if you're building a team?
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: You would look for a world-class goalie, and you would look for a uh a very good flicker, goal scorer, or someone with a real probably like edge to like willing the ball into the goal, um in some way, shape, or form.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: And I think that that's where it's I again.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: I I really rate Nikki.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: I play with him for the year, I thought he has some real quality, but like when you're pushing to win the best league in the world, uh, in the world, I think then things become very, very key.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: And uh maybe you're just lacking in a couple of them.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Well we'll we'll see.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: I think I think this game will be decisive, will be a very positive game for Nikki, and will help him.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Uh uh, I think he's he now gets a chance to show his character, and I think he'll um he'll do very well last seven games.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: I think we'll you'll be shocked with the level he can reach.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Uh and the corner department, I agree.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: We don't have a like we have a couple young guys who flick, but we don't have like the the the Yip Jansen, the Hendrix uh uh uh category, uh which is like we know this now in the gaming as campo is kind of important.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Um scores flicks the bone goal.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: So that goes.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: I I think he'll be a perfect fit for us.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: But again, I think this year, again, I think people are starting to write us off, and I kind of like that.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: I think uh we have a chip on our shoulder now, and uh we're ready to rumble.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so okay.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: I hope people count us out.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: I hope they do.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: I feel you, right.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um, I guess very quickly touching on our resources.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: We've we've returned um as OGs.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: We played our a fur a first versus second first game back um against Holcombe, uh, where we won um 3-1, I think, and then we played Hampstead last week and and won 4-2.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, again, we're building everything towards towards EHL, towards the end of the league.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're playing Rotterdam in the quarterfinals for the EHL.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: We know that they've started to fire, and um there's there's a definite excitement about the rest of the year, both domestically and in Europe.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: I sound like I'm doing an interview there, but what are you gonna do?
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Um any comments, you but we good.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I feel like I've I've I kind of feel like you your your theme in in England terms is a bit unfair.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: You don't really have you're like the the Dutch women in English in in English men's hockey.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Is that fair?
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: But with the Dutch women there's no money involved and you guys just pay pay off half the league and you have all the good players?
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Um probably unfair.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: How does it feel to buy how does it feel to buy a way into a championship?
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: Does it still feel like you're you're good?
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: I think that that's probably the unfair part of your statement.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: I thought the first part was like maybe fairly accurate.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Um I think the the the biggest thing we have on our side uh is experience.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of lots of 30-year-olds who've been there and understanding.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: You can't even keep a straight face with this bullshit story.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Phil, it's okay.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: If but you guys should own it more.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: That you like you guys should own more that you're like, yeah, we are the Manchester City or Real Madrid of English hockey.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: We just buy everyone we can buy.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Uh we're not here to develop people, we're here to buy our way to a championship.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Hey, and good on you, hockey needs more uh uh spending, uh spending.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: So well done to OGs.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you've just made a statement you know nothing about, and and you want me to agree with it.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: It's kind of my thing to to to have very very unlimited knowledge and just put stuff out there.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I think we we settled.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: Unbased the facts, like like non-factual facts.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: I'm just getting out there.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm very happy with the with the with the with the how do we say it?
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: What we've been given.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: The salary, yeah.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, nothing compared to yours, but I'm fairly happy still.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: The um nibble nibble the the arrow on our back, the the target on our back, the fact that we have a lot of quality and a lot of guys who have who are in their later years and know how to do stuff and how to win games.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: Um so far, so good.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: People keep coming at us and we get a lot of shit and we keep buying it off.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: So we will we're only time is gonna tell.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: We either go and have a really successful end of the year or we don't, and then you can laugh at us even harder if we don't.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: What I would say is that I'm loving it.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: It's awesome.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, that's good.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: Do you think you have a chance against Rotterdam?
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: I think uh not against Rotterdam.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Do you think you have a chance to win the EHL?
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Like a genuine chance.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, you do, huh?
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: You do.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm gonna predict something.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be uh I I really hope I kind of wanna like to be honest, I really I really hope either kampong, bloom now, or rotterdam they they all don't don't win, to be honest.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of done with all Dutch teams winning EHL.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: I'm kinda done with the whole EHL to be honest.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: I fucking hate EHL at the moment, but we're not in it.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Like, so I hope that it's done, and especially it's always like a Dutch team the last couple years that twins me.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: So I'm really rooting for you guys.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: It's it feels like I'm like I'm rooting for Tiger Woods.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Like so I really hope he wins.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of sure he doesn't, to be honest.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: I think that's the good that's the other that's the other really good thing, is that whenever you come up against a Dutch team in EHL, is that there's always the thing where it's like, well, they'll just win.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: And and Rotterdam, in fairness to them, there there is there is Rotterdam and an incredibly stacked team with with guys who are unbelievably good all throughout their team.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: They have a bit of everything.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: So there's no way I'm sat here being like, we're definitely gonna beat Rotterdam.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: But I know I know we have a we have a chance.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: We have a nice chance.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: They do have uh they do Rotterdam does have a really shit goalie.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: He's very shit.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: He uh he's he's very shit.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: He's like he's like like in Holland we say gather cas.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: It's like cheese with the holes in it.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: That's him.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: He's he's terrible, Dek Maya.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Hey Doug, hey Doug, you just make them like show okay, all right, mate.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: And they have this and then and they have this striker up front with like very blonde, also some people even call it white hair.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Also, terrible player, never scores, very slow, terrible player.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: So I think there's there's there's opportunities there, yeah, for sure.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: It will be great fun.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, I mean, I'm pretty excited to already for that to go as Dan Bosch and play.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: I think it's to be honest, not I think it's a good matchup, it's a very fun matchup.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: I think it will be close.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: To be honest, I don't really know who everyone will see your team, but I think it will be uh based on the amount of money you guys spent on your team.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: I think it will be a good matchup.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: Right, okay, let's move on from that.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Um, we'll probably do a nice EHL breakdown in the next couple of weeks because that is uh only a month away, uh probably a few weeks away when this gets released, and um, and it'll be fun to make you talk about it some more.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Um, moving on, we thought we would talk briefly about um my HIL experience.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Um, for people who don't know, I I returned from my break from hockey and from Siberia um to get an incredibly late call-up from Sawmer HC, uh, where we I went out very late after Christmas and uh ended up finishing with a bronze medal, which was pretty cool.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: Um got to play with some amazing players, but I was gonna leave it up to Yupe to do the question time, and uh I'll I'll do my best to answer seriously.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, um, in in uh incredible uh let's stick together uh uh uh fashion, I did not prepare anything because I also didn't really know you wanted me to ask the questions.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: I was kind of hoping to just listen to you answer your own questions, but no, okay.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Who was your favorite teammate?
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: I was really close.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Ah Jez Haywood.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: So to get to get it straight, the guy who claims he hates Australia and everything that has to do with it, and all Aussie players are are are knobs.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: His favorite player is Nussie, yeah and the worst one as well.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, one of the worst ones.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: So I mean I mean, that's a pretty easy one.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: I I rocked up.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: Um, I didn't know who my roommate was.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: I just uh done my normal 26 hours of of traveling, and I rocked up and I they just gave me the room key.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: I went up and then it's it's it's him.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: So uh we're similar ages, we've played against each other for probably 12, 13 years, and I was like, holy shit, this is this is either gonna go really nicely or really badly.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: What you turn out, and I think what happens most of the time is that however much you think people are uh dicks on the pitch, is that most hockey players turn out to be nice people, um, which was which was unfortunately the case here.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: So ended up being like a nice guy.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I don't I never really got like and I think that's what they they bring on themselves a bit because they want to be sometimes the Aussie players want to be like looked at like as as tough and they have like this mentality of in the field we're gonna fuck you up kind of thing.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: Uh I actually after because I've got to kind of tell after uh my pro league three weeks in pro league, I stayed for another week in Australia, and uh uh got uh taken care of uh very well uh by um uh um Tom uh because he wasn't he was not playing obviously.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Uh and then uh I've never had anything against Australian players or anything, but I've also we we kind of supposed it was fun to like uh exchange with him our views on international hockey or like and players, and you kind of feel ah he's a dick.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: No, he's a really nice guy.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: Oh he's a dick.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: No, he's also a really nice guy.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Like, I think everyone in their own way has like nice guys in their team.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: Uh uh uh and I think it's in every team you think the other team has is is like a team full of wankers, always uh Uh I'm I'm I think I'm one of the only guys who like always kind of sees things.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: Ah, he's probably alright.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Uh but like I think in our team everyone thinks every Australian, Spanish, Brit or German player is a complete asshole, except where you've played with him.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: So I think that's the good thing about the India League.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: You've come to realize and there's a lot of ice funny eyes out there.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and to be honest, being welcomed in by all of the coaching staff, all of the international players, because international players, there's eight of you in each team.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Um, there were six teams in one hotel.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and so actually bonding, talking, you know, like bonding with with guys you've played against for so many years, understanding that everyone's really quite quite similar in the same way, but also like you've just said, talking about hockey, understanding a different way to view the game, understanding how people's perspectives of the game work, it's it's it's just a nice experience when you get to do that and you get to really chew the fat about the game that we all play and we all make our living.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Um that sounds a bit a bit soft, but like really getting that feel for you know what people think, how people are when they play, you know, like talking uh within a day.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: I was I was already telling um Jez that I you know I really hated hated them guys.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Um like and and you actually sharing them experiences that you've had together but on different sides.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Like there's a memory that popped up of me scoring a goal in Australia and him smashing me, like running through the back of me with his shoulder after I score, which is just hilarious when you then sat next to each other in a room drinking a coffee.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I think one of the positives was just understanding it's also maybe a negative because I've always had fairly straight views with Belgians and Australians because I've never really spent any time with them, and the majority of people in our hotel were Belgians and Australians, and it maybe makes it slightly more difficult to hate them as much when you step onto the pitch next time because you sound like a very spiritual journey you went on.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: You found yourself.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Um not so much, but you know, there was there was a there was a there was a nice a nice atmosphere being being welcomed in understanding appreciation for all other countries.
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: Also, under how to play hockey um in India with a team who half of them don't speak English, half of them don't understand tactics, you've got then five or six different countries worth of information and viewing how to do stuff.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: When you put that all into a mixer, different penalty corners as well.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, when you put that into a mixer, it it suddenly doesn't become as easy to be able to perform at your best uh or the team's best when you just blend everyone together and say, like, let's try and do this.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: Um, so maybe a bit of a coach's nightmare at times, but also also a lot of fun.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it it looked it looked fun to be honest.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: It looked like a good time, like it looked like uh a lot of teams.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: There were a couple teams you really didn't want to be a part of, to be honest, though.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: Like there were a lot of cool teams, but like the what's it called?
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Pipers, I think.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: Who?
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: I think they they haven't won a game.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Who?
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Pi Delhi Pipers.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Oh Pipers, yeah.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Sorry, sorry, yeah, Pipers.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they they they were really shy, yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really shit.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: Other team, um Gonasica or something, Gossenica, Gonaseka, yeah.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: Yes, also really shy.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so there were a couple teams you were like, Oh, lucky I didn't get drafted to that team, probably.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: But yeah, there was a there was a couple of good uh good teams there, and it was it was kind of fun to watch.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: Like the the it's still my point, the higher the level, sometimes to a certain extent, then the less fun it gets to watch because it becomes more tactical and the differences are so small, and because it was such a chaos and there were so many mistakes, it was actually fun to watch.
- 48:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, and and like the difference between the best player in the team and the worst player in the team was such a huge difference.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: Again, even like training, even um trying to understand how to make the substitutions, uh, trying to work out a system of play.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, for a few games, like kind of like just trying to understand how to because we started so badly and had a had a pretty torrid time, and we were kind of like, Oh my god, how do we work this out?
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: and you generally just start figuring out.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: We had like Yup said, five really good flickers in our team, but we we couldn't score a corner.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: Um, we had Harman Priet, who who I've got to say is a top guy.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Um very chill.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Didn't really think that you would you would uh get that.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: I I didn't think I'd have that opinion of him, but he's very, very relaxed guy, very fun to be around.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: Um again, another another nice experience where you can where you can talk about games you've played against each other, experiences they've had.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I do sound kind of spiritual, don't I?
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: You also sound a bit soft, you sound a little bit like you're you're about to cry.
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: It's you're like it's so emotional for you.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: But it's good, it's good that you're so passionate about hockey in the league.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: You kept FaceTiming when we went there because he had FOMO, but we'll we'll move on from that.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: It I did not have FOMO.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: I had okay, I did have a little bit of FOMO to be honest.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: I was like, well, it looks kind of fun.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Bunch ballads together all hockey film.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Uh I did have a little bit of FOMO, but I was also interested in how my friend was Philip.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: So uh there's also last time I'll FaceTime you right.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Should we?
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, if if guys at all listening have any questions, questions about uh hockey in the league, about you, about anything, we will as as always haven't said it yet.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Like, please get in touch, give us shit, tell us we're soft, tell us, uh, ask us questions.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: We're very open to um answering them.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: We will get on top of the taking I'm taking uh applications.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: I might uh if if this if this uh uh if this English uh English uh uh duo of Phil Roper and Brendan Creed uh keeps not not taking me, my time, and this podcast serious.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna taking applications to start my own podcast with some one of you guys.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: So just if you feel like you have something to bring to the table, let me know.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Because I'm I'm they're both on the verge of being fired by me, the guy who they hired to be on their podcast.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: So as normal, you're over excited.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: But we'll move on to the final thing.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: The we we're gonna instead of the coop, um, what should we call this?
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: We play place your bets.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, place your bets.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: Right, you do you want to start us off?
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: We're gonna start this new section where we we um say something that we would probably have a bet on ourselves.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: We'll make a statement, um, maybe talk about the odds whether the other person will put the same bet on, or maybe change it a little bit.
- 51:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, I would place a bet on uh Tombone becoming uh FIH player of the year this year.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: Wow, I would place uh I would place a bet on that, and I think the odds are that he is like top three in like lowest odds right now.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: Let's be honest, one and two are probably an Indian player, but like I think he's the highest rated not Indian player.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say the elephant in the room, it's a horrible bet if you look at the last five winners.
- 52:01SPEAKER_02: Again, but I'm more of a high risk, high reward kind of guy.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: Like, I think you get 1.01 uh uh uh odds on Harman Prit, you get 1.02 on Hardig, but then you get like four things for Tom Bone, and I think it's worth it's like good money.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: So I think I'm going for Tom Bone.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: The guy is playing incredible hockey.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: I feel like he scored 50 goals in in eight games.
- 52:28SPEAKER_02: Uh he's finishing off everything.
- 52:30SPEAKER_02: He looks uh he looks as sharp as he's ever been, and I think he's like 35.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: So I think um is he the best player in hockey right now?
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: I don't think so, but I think he's the most valuable player in hockey right now.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Uh he's flicking corners, he's scoring goals left, right, and center.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: So I like as of now, I think in his current form, I think he's in the running to become FIH player of the year, and I think he would deserve it right now after the first eight games with the prank.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, to comment on that, there's a couple a couple of comments.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Is the first one is that he in Argentina he reached his 300th international goal, which I think what's what you're getting at, which is absolutely that's that's that's to to give perspective, that's not a hundred goals more than me, but a hundred times more goals than me.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: That is absurd.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: I can I I really struggled to get my head around it when I read it.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: I was like, he scored 300 international goals.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: I think he's I think he's he's pushing 350-400 caps, but it's still absolutely insane, absolutely ridiculous.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: I I don't understand how um he is an incredible goal scorer.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: I think he scored so many goals for for I think he's playing for Leopold at the moment.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Um did they count like training goals as well, like on the on on like a 4v4 on site or something.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: Well, I do know the Belgian Belgium tend to have more caps than everyone else because I think they cap all of their test games.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think they do they do kind of they're not too tight with the whole caps and goal system.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: I think I fucking we'll give we'll give it a it's an 88, it's an 88 training purple against yellow.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: I fucking will call it a cap.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: But no, seriously, I mean you but actually don't think it's a bad shot, but yeah, and and I also think to give some perspective on that is that Sam Ward recently became the GB in England all-time record goal scorer, and he that was 138 goals, which in itself is an amazing achievement to score 138 international goals, but kind of gets put to shame by Tom Boone just reaching 300.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Um, I would also like to know some of some amazing goal scorers.
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: I would love to have done my research and said some amazing goal scorers and how many goals they've actually scored.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: Um, because I'm guessing like Brinkman is maybe touched the hundreds, but I'm not quite sure.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, uh a pretty phenomenal again.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: Philip would have been such a good uh a good uh good good information if you've done your homework.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what I I just had to I had to get my mystic ball out.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: Guess that you were gonna bet on Tom Boone scoring this, and we would talk about it.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: Maybe maybe Brendan is always very quick to look up this kind of information.
- 55:10SPEAKER_02: Brent, oh wait, Brendan decided to fuck off and not be here.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: We haven't given him a lot of shit for not being here, huh?
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, I have a bet.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: I think I have another bet.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Place your bets.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: Brendan will still be in the podcast within the next three episodes.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: I'm betting not.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: I'm fired.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Fuck you, Brendan.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: I'm putting I'm yeah, I'm I'm putting a lot of money on that.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: You have no rights, well, you're also on the verge of being fired by me.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: We're we're we're gonna come back with our last bit of betting in a second.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Good couple of bets from you.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: A good couple of bets.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: Um my next bet, or my first betum don't make the semi-finals of the Europeans this year.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm putting uh I wanted to go a different route with the same team.
- 56:15SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm I'm I'm not putting any money on that to be honest, Philip.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: I am actually rating the Belgiums higher now than I do before uh uh Olympics.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let us sink in.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: Well, I had a look at the European groups today, and it was it was I think your one is Holland, Spain, Belgium, and like Poland, maybe that's your that's your European group.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: I wanna I'm not sure about Poland, but but you you have a really tricky group, and I I just I just foresaw that I I was like someone's not gonna make it, it's normally Spain, but they're pretty handy, they can really cause something to happen, and it only takes one result.
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, I to be honest, I didn't know that was the sleeve European group.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: Uh but I kind of see where you come from.
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: So then your your group is Germany, England, Ireland, France, and Russia, mate.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: I uh wait a minute.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: I I think no, that's the that's wrong.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: I think Russia have other things on their hands than playing your keynockey, to be honest.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: Worried about something else.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: Well, fuck it.
- 57:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, you have two shitty teams and you have Germany.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: So you're you're gonna make it together with Germany, yeah.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, Spain is just a they're they're a tough.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: I always feel like but Spain is like the shittest team to be, to be honest, because they're always like the two, they're never like one of the two teams, if it makes sense.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: It's never Belgium and Spain and two other shit teams, or like Belgium and and Holland, or Belgium, you know, it's it's always in fairness.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: The last the last three Europeans we've had to beat Spain to make the semis.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: They're always like but they're always like a team, we're very good, but like we're always the third team.
- 58:29SPEAKER_02: They're not the third team if they're making you know what I mean.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they can't they can't are, but can they're kind of not because they're fucking good.
- 58:36SPEAKER_00: So Netherlands Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria is your pool.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and uh our pool is Germany, England, France, and Poland.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: Jesus, you're pool of shit, man.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 59:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, yeah.
- 59:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it it could be, but I kind of I kind of rate Belgium I kinda high.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: I think they're they're like they have a lot of young players.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: We played them in uh uh it was a weird phase in our uh like it was in December.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: Um not a not a complete squad, missed a couple of good, like a couple, like a lot of good players.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: So Belgium I can't I feel like also did played without Hendrix, so I still they still have like a really good corner, they still have Artie van Doreen Autri de Slover in the back, Tom Bone up front, Kina van Desso.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: Like they have a Stevo Stuckbrooks, they have a lot of like really good players, they played really well.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: Also, so don't really see them falling falling off, to be honest.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: I think they they they did they did quite well by by selecting new young players who bring in new energy.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: Um so I I think they'll make it if I had to bet, I think I'd I've I'd I'd I'd I'd give them the edge over Spain, and I think if we're we're continuing our form for the last couple years, I think we're I would also put us above Spain.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: But I think Spain will give either one of us a run for our money.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it does make it a real tasty group, though.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: It'll feel nice to be on the other side of that for the first time in a long time.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: I can imagine.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: I can imagine.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: Um, we have we have gone on for quite a while, so I think we are gonna knock this on the head.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe we'll bring betting back with a bit more research done next week to to make some compelling cases.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: But I do think it's worth you know getting in touch if you think Brendan will be here next week.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: You know, me and you probably have that power.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: Maybe you phrase it.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: Do you think Brendan should be here next week?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: It's a great, great question.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Do you think Phil should be here next week?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: Also, great question.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: You do put to be honest to you, you do put in a lot of work in like preparation and stuff, and we kind of noticed last week how much we need you to bring some structure into the chaos that is mine and Brendan's head.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I do want to put out the questions just to be fair.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: Do you think all three of us should still be, or do you think one of us should be pumped out?
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_00: We just must be on the head and get rid of it.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: Let's let's be honest, I'm not on the table.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: I bring too much.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: It's uh I I could say it every week.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: I give, I give, I give.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: You can't really replace me.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: So right.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, on that note, this has been let's stay together, raw T by Y1.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: We will see you next week, hopefully.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe probably probably possibly
