- 1:31any steak. And we love him.
- 1:34He hasn't been on the show for a while.
- 1:36The last time he was on the show, me and him went back and
- 1:39forth, him with Matthew Stafford, me, Philip Rivers.
- 1:42Ladies and gentlemen, if you don't know him now, you do.
- 1:46We are now talking to NFL Network's chief national
- 1:49reporter, Steve Watch. Steve, what's up, man?
- 1:54What's up man? I love the energy.
- 1:56Good stuff, man. I forgot about that
- 1:58conversation. Well, he.
- 2:02Mentioned it already, Steve, don't worry.
- 2:07That's why I love you, Steve, because the last time you were
- 2:09on the show, we went back and forth and it was so fitting when
- 2:12we got, we got a message from your agent saying that you were
- 2:16coming on tonight saying, hey, wait a second.
- 2:18The last time me and Steve went back and forth with us about a
- 2:21year and a half ago, and Philip Rivers was what, 1 1/2 years
- 2:24away from being a Hall of Fame candidate?
- 2:27And now we got to wait another five years.
- 2:28Steve, what's going on here? But it is an amazing story.
- 2:33I never would have thought that Philip Rivers was going to come
- 2:37out of retirement. He definitely looked gold.
- 2:39He definitely looked fat. But for a guy to come out who
- 2:42had no pre season, no back end of practices, he really just
- 2:47came out and said give me the ball, I'm throwing it.
- 2:50What did you think of the three games that we saw with the 1:00
- 2:53we call Phil? I thought it was amazing.
- 2:56I mean, to come in, like you said, under those circumstances,
- 3:00like we always hear, like it takes, you know, this much time
- 3:02for a guy to get ready and to get seasoned.
- 3:05And the way he came in and he worked with not only the
- 3:07coaching staff, but the other 10 guys in the huddle, and you're
- 3:10making line checks and you're getting guys all set up here and
- 3:13there. It was incredible, not only how
- 3:16he played, but the way the other guys responded to him.
- 3:19So much about success at quarterback is how the other
- 3:21guys respond to you. Do they trust you?
- 3:24And he was like a breath of fresh air.
- 3:27And so I think the fact that the rest of his teammates were like,
- 3:30OK, this guy knows what he's talking about.
- 3:31He knows how to play football, Let's go.
- 3:33That's why they were so competitive, even though they
- 3:35didn't win those ball games. That was a good football team
- 3:39that just got sidetracked and in the mud.
- 3:41But I thought it was incredibly exciting, you know, for, for him
- 3:45to be able to come in and do what he did.
- 3:46ABBA Riley Leonard, we, we've had him on the show.
- 3:49I've been interviewing Riley Leonard since he was eighth
- 3:52grade and he's slowly but surely become the number one
- 3:55quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.
- 3:58I, I think having a guy like Philip Rivers a, a future
- 4:01possible, as you would say, never Hall of Famer.
- 4:05I I mean, having that guy on the sidelines giving you some
- 4:08pointers, giving you some information that maybe you're
- 4:10not getting from the coaching staff or your quarterback coach,
- 4:13that's pretty amazing too. Absolutely.
- 4:16And he's he's going to continue to give it because Philip Rivers
- 4:18is just that type of human being, you know, just to
- 4:20continue to offer that type of advice.
- 4:23And I've got to tell you this about the Hall of Fame stuff,
- 4:25these three games that's going to add some serious mystique to
- 4:30his already established lore. So this may this may help him
- 4:33get in when he becomes eligible in five years.
- 4:36Because I tell you what, the one thing right now, there's going
- 4:40to be such a log jam, a first time eligible guys coming up for
- 4:43the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He might not have got in for
- 4:45five years anyway. I'm smelling a nice juicy steak.
- 4:49I'm smelling it. I'm smelling it.
- 4:53I'll, I'll transition to the other end of that debate you
- 4:55guys had. The 1 you were advocating for
- 4:57was Matthew Stafford, who it looked like the Rams might have
- 4:59traded at the start of the season.
- 5:01The Giants were very interested in the Steelers were very
- 5:03interested in him and the Rams give him an extension.
- 5:06He had those back problems and now he's a case for the MVP this
- 5:09year. I know a lot of people like
- 5:10Drake May. What are your thoughts about
- 5:12that whole situation with Matthew Stafford and the Rams?
- 5:13This. Year it's going to be.
- 5:15I think Stafford probably ends up winning it.
- 5:17You know, he was the first team All Pro and he was it was
- 5:19fantastic this year. I mean, to your point, like I
- 5:22was even out at some of the summer workouts where he was
- 5:23just doing nothing but throwing like a weighted baseball against
- 5:26the wall. They just didn't know if he was
- 5:27going to be able to throw a football the way he normally
- 5:29throws it. There you go, Jabba.
- 5:31Like he this is like what he was putting himself through, you
- 5:34know, Clayton Kershaw's old high school catcher, by the way.
- 5:38And so we didn't really know that he was going to be able to
- 5:40come out and do this. And he's been incredible this
- 5:42year. He's been healthy.
- 5:44He's had a rotation of players on the offensive line.
- 5:48He's forced him to have Puka Nakua, but Devante Adams hasn't
- 5:50been there. And I think before, my argument
- 5:53was I don't know if he's a Hall of Famer.
- 5:54I think he is now. I think this, whether they get
- 5:57to the Super Bowl or not, what he just did sealed it for me.
- 6:03You know, he took at his age in overcoming that injury and
- 6:08seeing how many years he's played and seeing how he's
- 6:10handled himself, I don't think there's any doubt that you get
- 6:14in the first ballot. Who knows?
- 6:15I don't know what he's ever, you know, who he, who he's going to
- 6:19be going in with because he may play another year.
- 6:21I, I frankly hope so at the level he's playing at.
- 6:24But he, he has really put the cherry on top for me.
- 6:28If I was if I was swaying in the other direction.
- 6:31So Steve, you, you brought up something too, and I'm going to
- 6:33stay on the on the Hall of Fame side of it.
- 6:35Do you think Phillip coming back and and how you prefaced it
- 6:40saying maybe this, this cemented a different aspect because it
- 6:43may have taken him five years like you said.
- 6:46Do you think though too, that that leaves like the last thing,
- 6:50like cuz always the first impression is, is the most and
- 6:52then your lasting one when he come back and to do what he did
- 6:56in the eyes of like people that aren't football people be like,
- 7:00well, he didn't win. Was it great?
- 7:02But from your perspective, it's seeing what he did and knowing
- 7:06how important that position is to everybody and them embracing
- 7:11him. Do you think that cements a
- 7:13little bit more? And obviously we don't know the
- 7:15class at the time, but do you think that gives him a little a
- 7:19little bit of edge to to sway those votes?
- 7:23Because we're humans and like, can we see it?
- 7:26And it's like, man, this dude was a high school football
- 7:28coach. Nothing.
- 7:29And everybody embraced him. They saw what it was.
- 7:32And now it's like he's that father figure.
- 7:36I mean, he's got 10 kids, so he knows how to lead anyways.
- 7:40And now he's comes back in, didn't have any camp, didn't
- 7:44have anything with them, but they all embraced him where it's
- 7:47like, man, this dude is the real deal.
- 7:50Like his numbers are always going to be his numbers.
- 7:52Those are never going to change. Do you think that's cemented him
- 7:55a little bit more? I, I think it helps.
- 7:58There's a debate, you know, when you talk to coaches and people
- 8:00who played against Phillip, like his teammates, all these guys,
- 8:02Ladanian, you know, Gates, all these guys, but he, he should be
- 8:05in. But a lot of team, a lot of
- 8:07teams who played against him were like, we used to love
- 8:09playing against Phillip because we knew in the fourth quarter he
- 8:11was going to give us an opportunity to get a pick,
- 8:14right? He never got to the Super Bowl.
- 8:15He didn't have an abundance of all pros or, or pro Bowls.
- 8:19But you know, Drew Brees, I think only has one first team
- 8:21all pro because he played at the same time as Aaron Rodgers and
- 8:24Tom Brady and all these guys. So that really can't be held
- 8:27against him. So I I do think this helps.
- 8:29But here's another interesting aspect to think about this five
- 8:32years from now, when he becomes eligible again, there's probably
- 8:36going to be somewhat of a shift in the voters, right?
- 8:39Some of the guys may age out, may retire, may not want to do
- 8:42this. There could be a younger voting
- 8:43group who saw this. Like you said, with the recency
- 8:46bias of this, they, this was a lasting memory.
- 8:50They hadn't seen him for five years before.
- 8:52Then all of a sudden he shows up out of nowhere and poof, waves
- 8:55almost a magic wand and almost gets them into the playoffs.
- 9:01And and so I do think that that reasons he buys is something
- 9:03that could that could sway some of the new voters that come into
- 9:06the room. We did.
- 9:07Do you think he did it too because he gets that extra three
- 9:10years of insurance now too? Yes, no, he gets the extra 5.
- 9:15He gets it for five and and it's crazy as that sound.
- 9:19I don't think that was his driving purpose.
- 9:21He's got the great relationship with Shane Syke and he loves
- 9:23playing the game. But you know this, you know this
- 9:27being a former ballplayer yourself, how guys try to coach
- 9:31or stay involved as long as they can to maintain those benefits
- 9:36and to add to that pension for as long as they can all the
- 9:40time. Coaches I got to get in 25.
- 9:42If I get in 25, I'm good players, OK?
- 9:45If I can coach for 10 now, it'll give me 25, whatever the number
- 9:49is that they want to hit for them to retire peacefully.
- 9:52So trust me, that is an extra fringe benefit that he did not
- 9:55blindly approach this with. Well, I know I I waited till I
- 10:00got 10. So I was fully vested.
- 10:01I, I retired after I got, I got, I got into my 11th year, but
- 10:06days wise it was almost like 10 to the day.
- 10:09There you go. We are talking to NFL Networks
- 10:13Chief National Reporter Steve White.
- 10:15She's done NFL game day game warnings, game day mornings
- 10:19Saturday and at noon Sunday, 9:00 AM on NFL Network.
- 10:23Speedy is posting it up on on every single platform over here,
- 10:27so I'm reading it. But Steve, we look at obviously
- 10:31the weekend on Wild Card weekend.
- 10:33It's the best time for football because you get the chance to
- 10:36see the best football of the year.
- 10:38And Josh Allen to me has been the face of this weekend.
- 10:45And why? Because there's no Lamar
- 10:46Jackson, there's no Patrick Mahomes, there's no Joe Burrow.
- 10:51They're gone. They're not even playing in the
- 10:54playoffs. You have Josh friggin Allen,
- 10:57these guys that I mentioned, you can argue all the top four, top
- 11:00three quarterbacks, the faces of the NFL right now.
- 11:03When when you look at obviously what Josh Allen has brought as a
- 11:08player since he's come from college, Wyoming, and now what
- 11:12he's done over the last eight or nine years, specifically for the
- 11:15Buffalo Bills and, and trying to get to that, that that chance
- 11:19of, of winning the Lombardi Trophy.
- 11:21Do you believe that this year is his best chance to get to that
- 11:24platform? I understand the argument, but I
- 11:27hate the argument. I don't think this is the best
- 11:29Bills team he's been on, and I do think some of the other teams
- 11:34might be just as stout as some of those Ravens and Chiefs in
- 11:38Denver is. No freaking joke, man.
- 11:40I mean, there there, there's a couple teams that that they
- 11:42could face that could put him on the playoffs and you can't sit
- 11:47there and say, oh, well, he blew it.
- 11:48His windows closed. I I just think that because this
- 11:51isn't the best team when he has one of those better teams with a
- 11:54better defense. And we had the Micahi Jordan
- 11:57Poyer safety tan and playing together in their primes, taking
- 12:00the ball away and things like I thought I think those teams were
- 12:02better when he actually had wide receivers.
- 12:05So I think it'd be unfair to judge the greatness of Josh
- 12:07Allen if he doesn't get to the Super Bowl just because Burrow,
- 12:11Lamar and Patch from homes or I think that would be unfair.
- 12:14That said, no team asked more of their quarterback than the Bills
- 12:19ask of Josh Allen. When all else fails, 17, go get
- 12:24your brains beat out on the way to the end zone.
- 12:26But if you can run over three players crossing the goal line,
- 12:29we'll take it. But that's, that's the truth.
- 12:32And I again, you're right. I, we went back and forth that
- 12:35this is probably Steve the, the worst defense he's had since
- 12:39he's been there. This, this is not the same
- 12:42defense he's had. But what Josh Allen gives to the
- 12:45Buffalo Bills and what Josh Allen delivers every single
- 12:48playoff weekend is something that we don't see a lot of
- 12:51quarterbacks do. You mentioned Bo Nicks.
- 12:53Am I trusting Bo Nicks as good as Sean Payton is, as good as
- 12:57the Broncos defenses all season long?
- 13:00Am I going to trust their offense that they're going to be
- 13:02able to put it in the end zone? I don't know.
- 13:04I know Josh Allen's going to find a way to put the ball in
- 13:07the end zone. That to me is why I I would give
- 13:09more to advantage going into the divisional game to Josh Allen
- 13:14and the Buffalo Bills then Bo Nicks and Sean Payton.
- 13:17I wouldn't just because what's on the other side, Bo Nicks,
- 13:21Nick Benito, Derek Allen, you know that defense.
- 13:25I mean, as as great as Josh Allen can be, there are certain
- 13:28things that if he can overcome, certain things like that, no
- 13:32turnovers, play a clean game, salute to him.
- 13:34Again, I'm not taking anything away from Josh Allen.
- 13:36I'm taking away the Buffalo Bills as a whole.
- 13:40Or why I don't think it'd be fair to judge Josh Allen if he
- 13:43doesn't make it and I look, I'm all for it if he does.
- 13:46I I think he's one of the greatest players I've seen in my
- 13:49lifetime. Especially the physical abuse
- 13:51that he takes is like, you know, the hack a Shaq almost, you know
- 13:54when he got filed 10 times harder than anybody else and
- 13:57still get didn't get fouls called on him.
- 14:00But. He answers his no every time
- 14:02too. Every time, man.
- 14:04I mean, look what happened this week.
- 14:06They took James Cook out of this game.
- 14:08They took him out. No team's been able to do that.
- 14:11And he's still delivered. And, you know, so salute to him,
- 14:15you know, and here's the key stat for the Buffalo Bills that
- 14:18people don't talk about enough. They possess the ball longer
- 14:21than any team in the NFL. They average almost 34 minutes
- 14:24to gain time of possession. That's Josh Allen, so it's
- 14:27pushing it. Or on 3rd and 11, finding a way
- 14:30to get a first down, right. That's them going on 8910 play
- 14:34drives over and over again as to not expose their defense and to
- 14:39find ways to get points on the board because of his will,
- 14:44because of his skill and because of his toughness.
- 14:47So I want to shift to one of the other games, the 49ers and the
- 14:49Eagles. The 49ers winning that game with
- 14:50a lot of injuries. They lose George Kittle for the
- 14:53for the rest of the season, maybe for next season as well.
- 14:54And then the Eagles on the other side.
- 14:56We've heard the drama with A.J. Brown and Nick Siriani.
- 14:59Like, what do you think is the fallout for both of these teams,
- 15:01the Niners advancing to play the Seahawks and the Eagles and
- 15:03offseason? Some questions.
- 15:05Wow. I mean, it's great.
- 15:06So let's talk about Philadelphia first.
- 15:07I mean, look, their offense has done this all season long.
- 15:10They're not creative. The offensive line couldn't
- 15:14necessarily get the push to spring Saquon.
- 15:16I, I still don't know why. After watching Kenneth Walker go
- 15:19for about $1.50 on on San Francisco the week before, I
- 15:23don't know why you don't get Saquon the ball 30 * a game.
- 15:25He's going to hit one. I, I, I don't get it.
- 15:28As great as Robert Salas game is, with as much heart as those
- 15:33Niners defenders play with, I, I, I just don't get it.
- 15:36I haven't gotten it all season. So I mean, I'm sure the Eagles
- 15:40have got to make a change in offensive coordinator.
- 15:42If they don't, that's going to be an issue.
- 15:44That's going to be a big, big problem.
- 15:46A.J. Brown, I think, I think he's
- 15:49probably bad attitude. He's way out of town one way or
- 15:54another. I I just don't think you can
- 15:56tolerate that anymore, especially when he doesn't make
- 15:58plays, when he has an opportunity to make a play at
- 16:01the end of that game. And then for the San Francisco
- 16:0349ers, I would say, man, losing Kiddo might just be one injury
- 16:08too much, but they're so familiar having played Seattle
- 16:12twice this year, the first game of the season, last game of the
- 16:14regular season, but they played them two weeks ago.
- 16:15It was a 13 to 3 game. That could have flipped that.
- 16:18Christian McCaffrey been able to hang on to that deflected pass
- 16:22that came his way that ended up in a Seattle interception near
- 16:26the goal line. That was a 13 to 3 game.
- 16:28I mean, the Niners defence that Seattle made was was inept in
- 16:30the red zone a little bit. They had opportunities to really
- 16:32stretch this game open, but that familiarity is going to make
- 16:35this a really, really good game up in Seattle where the twelves
- 16:39are back. They're back to the Legion of
- 16:40Boom days. Man, I, I was at a game against
- 16:43the Rams and they made the big comeback against the Rams and I
- 16:45was like, man, this is as loud as I heard it back when Russell
- 16:48Wilson and Doug Baldwin and Marshawn were doing their things
- 16:50up here too. So that's going to be a great
- 16:52game. They just ended the season with
- 16:53them and we kind of saw it in the Bears and Packers game.
- 16:56They played three times in five weeks.
- 16:59Do you think that's playing that?
- 17:01And obviously I never played the game of football, so I don't
- 17:04know if if that familiarity goes like with this game as much.
- 17:09But when it's that short of it, do you have enough time to
- 17:14change? And obviously being in Seattle
- 17:17and the Niners going there, because now if the Bears lose,
- 17:20then the Niners would have hosted and so now happened to go
- 17:24there. Do you think it hurts or hinders
- 17:28their aspect? And from the other side, like
- 17:33they just played them, do you think there's an advantage or
- 17:36disadvantage in going there? Well, it's, it's absolutely an
- 17:40advantage to be a home field, especially, you know, 49ers
- 17:43going to fly across the country to Philadelphia.
- 17:45They got to fly all the way back to California and have a short
- 17:49week. So you know the physical toll is
- 17:52real, but it's almost like playing on a Thursday night,
- 17:55right? If the physical toll is real.
- 17:58But again, this is where the familiarity of playing one
- 18:00another twice a season and in such a close period of time
- 18:06helps. You talk to players, you talk to
- 18:08coaches in these scenarios and they're like, look, there's a
- 18:10few things we can tweak. We can go back in our playbook
- 18:13and and find some things that we haven't used in a while
- 18:15offensively to try to catch them in a look maybe they haven't
- 18:18seen. But at some point it just come
- 18:20down to players executing. They know each other well.
- 18:23We know what they want to do, they know what we want to do,
- 18:26who's going to be tougher, who's not going to turn the ball over
- 18:29and who's going to take advantage when they've got
- 18:31opportunities to put points on the.
- 18:32Board Steve. They hate each other.
- 18:34The Packers and the Bears can't stand each other.
- 18:37You saw Ben Johnson, I love it too.
- 18:39And Lafleur. I I, I feel bad for Lafleur
- 18:42because after the game I go in and I feel bad for Jordan Love
- 18:45because Jordan Love was standing there trying to speak to the
- 18:48press and the first thing the press attacks him with, Do you
- 18:51think Lafleur should be the coach next year?
- 18:53And how do you how do you respond to that after having a
- 18:55great game? You're one of the reasons why
- 18:58your team was still in the game. Your team doesn't show up in the
- 19:00second-half. You do.
- 19:02And the first thing you're going to ask me is should the coach
- 19:05should be there? Should my coach be there?
- 19:07How do you answer a question like that after losing a game
- 19:10and and trying to move on in a divisional game?
- 19:12I mean, how do you, how do you respond to that?
- 19:14If you were him, how would you respond to that?
- 19:17Well, I think I think he handled it well, you know, by saying,
- 19:20yeah, he I, he should be. He, he he stayed with me.
- 19:22Remember, this is a quarterback. Let's let's have a longer memory
- 19:26here. Who his first two years and he's
- 19:29backing up Aaron Rodgers. People thought he couldn't play.
- 19:33He can't do this. He's he's a he's a flop.
- 19:35He was a terrible pick. And through the coaching and the
- 19:38development, they have turned him into one of the better
- 19:42quarterbacks in the NFL. So Jordan Love, I'm sure
- 19:45respects that. Had you asked him this couple
- 19:47years ago, you probably said, yeah, get him out of here.
- 19:48This guy doesn't like me. But now this guy helped make him
- 19:51into a great quarterback. I mean, Matt Lafleur, I'll just
- 19:53talk about him. Them letting him go.
- 19:55I dare them, right? Find somebody better than him
- 19:59and then watch him go. To Atlanta or to Miami or
- 20:02someplace else to start winning more games than you.
- 20:05I mean, that's that's what will happen.
- 20:06He's a very, very good coach. And that's that goes, that goes
- 20:09to Ben Johnson too. If you think about it, Ben
- 20:12Johnson was handed a job where we had Matt Eberfluse there and
- 20:17Matt Eberfluse, he, he was one and done as a defensive
- 20:20coordinator with the Cowboys. So we we all know he can't, even
- 20:23though I think he's a pretty decent defensive coordinator, I
- 20:26don't think he's as bad as everybody says he is.
- 20:28But to watch Ben Johnson really develop a guy like Caleb
- 20:32Williams, who I believe is a star, but he needed the right
- 20:36guy in place that's going to help him develop him.
- 20:38You could see the difference if if Matt Lafleur leaves, does
- 20:42that help Jordan Love? Or does that hurt Jordan Love as
- 20:45much as we've seen Ben Johnson, how much he's helped Kayla
- 20:48Williams? It's great.
- 20:50That's such a great way. That's such a great point you
- 20:52make because you first time you know who'd come in to replace
- 20:54him. But it's not like they're a bad
- 20:58football team. I mean, you lose your best
- 21:00defensive player for a couple weeks, your your defense can't
- 21:03find any traction. You know, you're playing a
- 21:05familiar opponent at their field and you just don't make plays
- 21:09down the stretch. Not not that it's Jordan Love's
- 21:11fault or Matt Lafleur's fault. I mean, the defense got hit with
- 21:14some incredible plays by Caleb Williams.
- 21:16And you know, to go to the Ben Johnson part of it again, we
- 21:19have to go broader here organizationally.
- 21:21What did the Bears do in the offseason?
- 21:23And when I got 3 stud veteran offensive lineman, what is Ben?
- 21:27What did Ben Johnson have in Detroit?
- 21:29A stud offensive line. So I tell you what, there's a
- 21:32big thought bubble here, guys. If you want to build a
- 21:35championship team, maybe go get a good offensive line because
- 21:39right now Seattle's got a pretty good one.
- 21:41The Rams have a pretty good one. The Niners have a pretty good
- 21:44one. Look what New England did.
- 21:47They went out and drafted offensive lineman and got
- 21:49offensive line. Guess what?
- 21:50They win the AFC East. So I think that's kind of a
- 21:55basic formula to success in the NFL.
- 21:58I want to shift gears a little bit to the the coaching of the
- 22:00big coaching firing last week. That was John Harbaugh after 18
- 22:03years with the Ravens and subsequently after Mike McDaniel
- 22:06fired by the Dolphins. I'm under the impression that
- 22:08maybe that could be an interesting target for them.
- 22:10What do you think about the Ravens decision, first of all,
- 22:13to fire Harbaugh? There was maybe some tension
- 22:15with Lamar Jackson maybe. And does John Harbaugh take a
- 22:17year off? Does he coach again?
- 22:18And if So, what do you think is the best spot for him?
- 22:21Let's go to the end. He's going to coach again.
- 22:23That that's in the family genetics, bro.
- 22:24When you come on, when you're a Harbaugh baby, dad coached Jim
- 22:28Coach, John Coach, I mean, that's in the DNA.
- 22:30You know, when they do the swab right there, they're going to be
- 22:33a football coach. You don't even have to go to
- 22:34ancestry to figure that out when your last name is Harbaugh.
- 22:37But who's going to coach again? It's interesting because when
- 22:42John Harbaugh came out this weekend or his agent or whomever
- 22:45and said he's only going to talk to a couple of teams, I
- 22:50immediately was like, huh, is Miami off the board here?
- 22:53Because he interviewed with Atlanta tonight and Atlanta just
- 22:57established the type of structure he came from
- 22:59organizationally in Baltimore, Matt Ryan's a football
- 23:02president, football operations, much like Ozzie Newsome has been
- 23:04there for years, right? They've got, they're going to
- 23:06put AGM in place and that he just has to go in and coach and
- 23:10have some say there's a quarterback there, right?
- 23:14So there's certain things he can do.
- 23:15He'll probably have significant autonomy.
- 23:17And for Atlanta, it's, you know, Arthur Blank.
- 23:19I used to be the beat writer down there for years.
- 23:22He's always hired first time coaches.
- 23:24Raheem Morris was the first head coach he's hired that had been a
- 23:26previous head coach. So to come come in with the
- 23:29gravitas that John Harbaugh has, that would be significant for
- 23:33that organization. Not to say he's going to go
- 23:36there because apparently the Giants are hot on his tail.
- 23:39You got a quarterback with the Giants.
- 23:41You got defensive players, you, you, you make a couple right
- 23:45decisions coaching and and staffing that thing up and get a
- 23:47couple players, they can flip that real quick.
- 23:50Because you see, the NFC East could be up for grabs at at any
- 23:53point. So it it all really depends on
- 23:56him. You know, just something tells
- 23:57me the Miami situation might not tickle his fancy that much right
- 24:02now. Well, he said he's going to
- 24:03narrow his teams down. Maybe he talks to them.
- 24:06But I was with you when they fired McDaniel.
- 24:08I thought, OK, Harbaugh's going there.
- 24:09They tried to get his brother a couple years ago, but maybe his
- 24:12brother said, you know what you might want it might not want to
- 24:15go there, even with all the Michigan ties that are happening
- 24:18in Miami. All right, so this this is the
- 24:22question right now. We finished fun wild card,
- 24:26right? If you have to pick one to win
- 24:30the Super Bowl right now, who is it?
- 24:34So I got to pick a team to win the Super Bowl.
- 24:35Right now I'd say the Seattle Seahawks.
- 24:37Wow. I, I think, I think defensively
- 24:42they are as real as he gets at all three levels.
- 24:46Their defensive line, they leave carnage on the field every play.
- 24:50Got some really good linebackers that fit the scheme.
- 24:54And they've got 2 aces that no other team has.
- 24:56And that's Devin Witherspoon and that's the rookie safety Nick
- 25:00Eamon Wari, right? They've got two guys you can
- 25:02play anywhere. Whatever you try to do personnel
- 25:05wise, three tight ends, 4 wise, whatever, doesn't matter.
- 25:09They got you. Now you may say Sam Darnold's a
- 25:12wild card. He is.
- 25:13He is. Every team's got some type of
- 25:15wild card. To go back to the Josh Allen
- 25:17argument, he's probably the most sturdy quarterback him and
- 25:20Matthew Stafford left in the playoffs.
- 25:23But looking at how complete Seattle is and just kind of
- 25:30seeing how they play, I think they can line up against anybody
- 25:35anywhere and do their. Thing you're going to give me
- 25:36Ajita. That's what you're going to do,
- 25:38Steve. You're going to give me Ajita.
- 25:40I this is this is what happens when Steve watch comes on this
- 25:43show. I get Ajita.
- 25:45That's that's how I feel. Sam Darnold, who was a Jets
- 25:48quarterback, who by the way, the New York Jets drafted as their
- 25:52third pick a couple years ago in the Saint Claude Barkley draft,
- 25:55is going to win a Super Bowl. Do you know how upset I will be
- 25:58when I watch him raise that Lombardi trophy?
- 26:01How sick I will be as a Jet fan, I would be sick to my stomach
- 26:06and that's that to me. And I love McDonald, but believe
- 26:09it or not, I think McDonald is coach of the year.
- 26:11I think he's been the best coach in the NFL all season long.
- 26:15The transition coming from a Baltimore Ravens team, a lot of
- 26:18people question his thought of of the process being a defensive
- 26:21coordinator under John Harbaugh. But you can see the defense ever
- 26:26since he's left, this hasn't been the same defense.
- 26:28So you know how good McDonald has been for the Baltimore
- 26:31Ravens in John Horrible. And then you look at the
- 26:34transition, you get over there, you add some old Jets defensive
- 26:37players. You got a Little Mix of all
- 26:39these veteran players and some youth.
- 26:42And then they have one of the best defenses in the league.
- 26:44They have one of the best running games in the league.
- 26:46Oh, and by the way, they bring in Sam Donald for three years,
- 26:49hundred a $100 million from the Minnesota Vikings, who, by the
- 26:52way, absolutely struck out on that move because they went with
- 26:55JJ McCarthy. And you're sitting here laughing
- 26:58to the bank, Seattle, going to the Super Bowl.
- 27:02Very, very good. Thank you, Steve.
- 27:03That's my golf clap of the day. Thank you for making me even
- 27:07sicker as a New York Jet. See, at least they won't win the
- 27:10Super Bowl with Jamal Adams on the team, though.
- 27:12Sick, Absolutely sick. By the way, I got a good
- 27:16question for you right now because I am really, really sick
- 27:19of the New York Jet fans. Aaron Glenn is sitting there at
- 27:23their head as a head coach now. I like Aaron Glenn.
- 27:26I think Aaron Glenn deserves at least three years to build his
- 27:30own team. You can't just throw them away.
- 27:32I I mean, if that was the case, why didn't the Lions do that
- 27:35with Dan Campbell? They could have left Dan
- 27:37Campbell and, and tell Dan Campbell to take a hike.
- 27:39And Dan Campbell was coach of the year last year and one of
- 27:41the best NFL coaches right now in the league.
- 27:43So my thought here is The Jets should give this guy a chance.
- 27:47But everybody else's thought is the guy sucks.
- 27:50He can't speak to the media and he doesn't know how to develop
- 27:53A-Team. I want to hear from the great
- 27:55Steve watch. Do you believe that if you give
- 27:59this guy a couple of years and put the proper players in place
- 28:04to run this defense and run this team that they can succeed?
- 28:07Steve? We'll give you a take here here
- 28:09here's here's. What I'll say is we'll see.
- 28:11It all depends on the quarterback, you know, It really
- 28:13does. And First off, for Jets fans, to
- 28:16have such a high bar. Excuse me, what?
- 28:23Excuse me talking about. But look, organizationally,
- 28:28clearly they've got some things they've got to fix.
- 28:30It's not like they haven't had good talent there.
- 28:33We look at all the great talent. They're like the Clippers back
- 28:36in the Donald Sterling era when they were drafting top five year
- 28:39after year after year and they couldn't win any ball games.
- 28:42I I mean, organizationally, they've got to figure something
- 28:45out. But Aaron Glenn, I don't know if
- 28:48he's going to be a good coach or not.
- 28:49This year was a disaster, but they couldn't figure out the
- 28:52quarterback had a bunch of injuries decide to bail on
- 28:54sauce. So now they're loaded with draft
- 28:57picks loaded. So now let's see, let's give
- 29:00them a chance. But anybody who thought that
- 29:03this team was going to be any good coming into the season,
- 29:06when they made it abundantly clear that they weren't coming
- 29:11into the season, they were kind of like, hey, guys, this is
- 29:15going to take a minute. You know, we didn't go out and
- 29:18get 30 year old Tom Brady. We went out and got Justin
- 29:21Fields. It's going to take a minute.
- 29:25You know, we got, we got to build this thing.
- 29:27Oh, yeah, They went out and got a pretty good offensive lineman,
- 29:29you know, and Armand Membu, you know, you know, it's going to
- 29:32take time, Jets fans, you still might be a year away from being
- 29:38a year away. Thank you.
- 29:40Thank you, Steve. A year away, film members.
- 29:42Will be in the Hall of Fame. Listen.
- 29:44If that was the case, every single year is a year away for a
- 29:47Jet fan. Think about it.
- 29:49How many quarterbacks do The Jets have to go through?
- 29:51Hey, you know what, let's just bring, let's try to make a trade
- 29:54and bring Joe Burrow here because that's what all the Jet
- 29:57fans want. What the hell is wrong with you
- 29:59guys? We doesn't want that.
- 30:00I I mean that. I mean everybody wants it.
- 30:03It's not going to happen. It's a Jet fans fantasy.
- 30:06You know, I can tell you a lot of fantasies I have, but I don't
- 30:08want to scare people off on this show.
- 30:10So I mean it's speed. He's got a lot of different
- 30:14scary fantasies as well. But I mean, come on, as a jet
- 30:17fan, you sit here today and you wonder and I and I can't stand
- 30:20the Raiders organization because they're sitting pretty.
- 30:22They're going to get Mendoza because by the way, they decided
- 30:25to sit out Crosby and Brock Powers.
- 30:29I mean, it makes me sick. The finally The Jets have a
- 30:31chance. I was there at the Heisman
- 30:32Trophy. I was happy.
- 30:34I loved when he went out there and Times Square raising his
- 30:37trophy for all the jet fans training and screaming JETS,
- 30:40jet, jets, Jets. I was there, ladies and
- 30:42gentlemen, and I got sick because I knew it was never
- 30:46going to happen because that is very Jet esque.
- 30:52Thank you. Thank you for all you stupid jet
- 30:55media guys, all you guys out there that make me sick to my
- 30:58stomach. I'm going to have Ajita.
- 31:00I, I might as well sit on the ball and have some esque X
- 31:04slacks or something because I am sick to my stomach.
- 31:07I'm going to go into another year with epic proportion of
- 31:11bull crap. This team sticks and I'm tired
- 31:13of it. I don't even want to be a Jet
- 31:15fan anymore. I'd rather be I, I I'll be a
- 31:18Jacksonville Jaguar fan even though I can't stand the
- 31:20Gremlin. I can't have to treat him.
- 31:23Travis Hunter. And I would rather be rooting
- 31:26for that team because at least Cohen and and I don't know if
- 31:30Trevor Lawrence has anything to smart about but hey, $55 million
- 31:34does. I am sick to my stomach.
- 31:35Steve as a Jeff. There he is.
- 31:37There's the gremlin. I gave him the nickname Travis
- 31:40the gremlin. I even forgot his name.
- 31:44Travis the Gremlin hunter. I I'm losing my mind tonight.
- 31:48I I told the boys before the show, Steve, you watch, I'm
- 31:51going to lose it tonight. I'm going to lose it.
- 31:54And when I lose it, I I can't even express where I'm going to
- 31:57go with it. So now, ladies and gentlemen,
- 31:59you know where I'm going with Steve White, who owes me well,
- 32:02is going to owe me a steak dinner in five years because you
- 32:05know who's going to the whole Hall of Fame.
- 32:06And by the way, Matthew Stafford is absolutely a Hall of Fame.
- 32:09You are absolutely right. Yeah.
- 32:10Absolutely. Yeah.
- 32:11I. Flipped.
- 32:12I flipped there you. Go but but Steve, I'm on the.
- 32:15Fence. I'm on the fence.
- 32:15But he's a, he's a Canton guy, all of that.
- 32:17Steve, let's, let's, let's give him a little bit.
- 32:19Do you think Aaron Glenn is the right dude for that team?
- 32:22He doesn't know. It's hard to tell.
- 32:24It's hard to tell Java because I thought I thought Robert Solo is
- 32:28the right guy. Bampy, bampy.
- 32:33Here you go. Again.
- 32:34Bampy, you know what I'm saying? Like.
- 32:36After a year or two, I, I know Robert Solo, I think he's a damn
- 32:41good leader. I think he's a damn good coach.
- 32:44But there, there's been some things that have happened.
- 32:46There's been a lot of good players.
- 32:48All I'm going to say, I'll put it like this, I think there's
- 32:50been some smart, talented coaches to come through there.
- 32:53There's been a lot of talent to go through there.
- 32:56They end up getting fired, the players end up getting let go
- 32:58or. Zach Wilson, Steve, please.
- 33:01There's a couple of constants. Zach Wilson, you want to talk
- 33:05about good players? There he is.
- 33:06There's Bambi. All right.
- 33:07Hey, Zach Wilson, Mr. Mother, whatever you want to call them.
- 33:13I, I, I was not specific, but I'm just saying you talked about
- 33:16Sam Darnold earlier. He's he's been pretty good since
- 33:19he's left there. There been a couple guys who've
- 33:21done pretty well since they've left there.
- 33:23Thank you. Thank you, Steve.
- 33:25There are a couple constants. Again, that building itself
- 33:27needs to kind of, I don't know, someone needs to come by with
- 33:31some fairy dust or whatever. Me.
- 33:33Me. They should hire me to be the
- 33:36spokesman for the New York Jets. Me to go out there to the media.
- 33:40Yeah, that's really good. I I mean, come on that.
- 33:42Going over real well. It will go very well because you
- 33:45know what, I will go to the media, Steve, and I will tell
- 33:48the. Media we will get.
- 33:49Canceled we would get. Canceled we would get.
- 33:51Canceled. First of all, I'm
- 33:53straightforward. I'm honest, I have personality,
- 33:56I have pizzazz, and I would tell all the media people over and
- 34:00over again, because I've done it.
- 34:01I've gotten into arguments with a lot of media people, people
- 34:04over the years, some people that think that they know what
- 34:06they're talking about and I've called them out on it.
- 34:09And then I called them out and actually dropped the hammer on
- 34:12them. And then they try to backtrack
- 34:14and try their try to find their way out of the maze.
- 34:17My thought here is the New York Jets as an organization is a
- 34:21failure and the only way they're going to get out of this fail,
- 34:24failure to launch launch is if they find themselves a
- 34:26quarterback. Do not, do not reach in this
- 34:30year's draft for a quarterback. Wait until next year where you
- 34:33have a boatload of picks and a boatload of talent.
- 34:37That's the way I go. What do you think, Steve?
- 34:40Do The Jets draft in a court, draft a quarterback this year or
- 34:42you go veteran and get a quarterback next year where you
- 34:45can launch a possibility of maybe getting lucky and getting
- 34:49arch or one of those guys. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:53Look, it's always a risk saying I'll wait until the next year
- 34:57because look at how many guys we thought there's going to be 6
- 34:59guys coming out this year who are going to be great and none
- 35:01of them materialized, right? So, so you really don't know.
- 35:04That's always a risk. And as a coach, you don't know
- 35:07if you're going to be back, especially with that
- 35:09organization, you know, who likes to reload.
- 35:12I mean that that revolver barrel is always turning, man.
- 35:16So I, I, I would think that they would probably go veteran four
- 35:21to five things the other way based on some of the guys coming
- 35:23out of the draft. And look, you, you may call me
- 35:26crazy, but there's going to be some guys on the market, be it
- 35:29Kyler Murray, be it Tua, be it whomever, right, Mac Jones, I
- 35:33mean, whomever you may not, you may not like it, but team teams
- 35:39have done worse. Teams have found ways to, hey,
- 35:41Kirk Cousins, you know, bring, bring Kirk O'chain's up there.
- 35:45You never, you never really know.
- 35:47And that's where with all these graphics and everything, you
- 35:50would hope when you talk about transparency that they at least
- 35:54express to you their philosophy of what they plan to do.
- 36:00And that's where a lot of losing teams get into trouble.
- 36:03Like when you watch the Raiders this year, like, what are they
- 36:06doing? Like, like, what is their
- 36:07offensive philosophy? They have Ashton Genti, but they
- 36:09got Gino throwing it 40 times, right?
- 36:13And and so you're you're just you're trying to figure out what
- 36:17you are. And that's what Aaron Glenn and
- 36:18his staff need to figure out. Like, what are they?
- 36:20Are we going to bang on defense and just let our offense figure
- 36:24out over time like the Broncos have done?
- 36:27Because it works to a point. So we'll see.
- 36:30So thank you. JETS, jets, jets.
- 36:34No, JETS sucks, sucks, sucks. OK, that's all I'm going to say.
- 36:38And by the way, all the media people, you know, and that's
- 36:40another thing before we let you go, Steve, you've heard a lot of
- 36:43media guys, I'm not going to mention any names.
- 36:45All these guys before the season, they're sitting there
- 36:48and they're speaking about this team and oh, we like this guy.
- 36:51And Aaron. Aaron looks like he's the
- 36:53perfect guy. Now all of a sudden throw him
- 36:55out. He's garbage, he's disposed.
- 36:57He's just he's an absolute disposal piece of garbage.
- 37:00Everything and and and everybody he keeps pointing out, well,
- 37:03look, Bruce Hall don't want to be here.
- 37:04Look, this guy don't want to be here.
- 37:06That guy Quinton Williams never wanted to be here.
- 37:08It this is the problem with Jets media guys.
- 37:10They can't stick to the same thought before the season and
- 37:15even after the season. How about just let's pray to God
- 37:19that this team has some understanding of what they're
- 37:21doing because honestly in 50 years and I'm not 50 years old,
- 37:26but I'm getting close up there. I might have a heart attack
- 37:29before that time comes where I can say, hey, The Jets are
- 37:32actually playing in a Super Bowl, so.
- 37:35But that's, that's every media core, that's every Media Group.
- 37:38I mean, if, if the team doesn't, well, look at the Packers, they
- 37:41got one of the best coaches in the NFL and they're, they're,
- 37:43they're talking about getting rid of Matt Lafleur.
- 37:46And so it's I'll take them. I'm I'm telling you, man, it's,
- 37:50it's like, it's, it's what we do.
- 37:52We live in the moment, especially now where everything
- 37:55is microwaved and everything is is here and there to, to sit
- 37:59there and and let a process play out.
- 38:01You better keep preaching the process.
- 38:03It's going to take a while. It's guy.
- 38:05If you don't, you're setting yourself up for that type.
- 38:07Steve, would you put a steak in a microwave?
- 38:09Let me ask you would you put a steak?
- 38:11No, you wouldn't. But guess what?
- 38:13The Jet fans would. I know The Jets organization
- 38:16would. Yeah, You just put a little bit
- 38:18of spice on it. It'll taste a little bit of
- 38:20good. The Johnson Johnson Microwave.
- 38:23I'm sick to my stomach. Thank you, Steve for making me
- 38:25even. I after this interview, after we
- 38:29go and we will move on to the show, I will remember this
- 38:31interview on Steve. He's the guy that sits back and
- 38:34he says, you know, The Jets need to find a quarterback.
- 38:36It might be better, it might get better.
- 38:38But All in all, this team never finds a way out of it.
- 38:42They're stuck in quicksand and they're sinking deep, deep,
- 38:46deep. And that's what's going on.
- 38:48As a Jet fan, so thank. You, well, you're hanging on to
- 38:50them. You're going down with them bro
- 38:5231. Routine.
- 38:53I'm a Jet fan. I'm a real Jet fan, and I
- 38:56actually root on root for the Eagles because I grew up a
- 38:58Donovan McNabb fan. But watching the Eagles debacle
- 39:01yesterday and then actually talk about The Jets today, honestly,
- 39:05I'm going to take some. I'm going to take something
- 39:07after the show because I'm going to have to calm the hell down
- 39:09because I'm. Losing my mind job.
- 39:11He's in his happy place. Jets fans and Philadelphia fans
- 39:16are only happy when they're mired in misery, right?
- 39:20I guarantee you when the Eagles won the Super Bowl last year,
- 39:24people were complaining about Jalen Hurts or something in some
- 39:27way, just so it felt good to the heart.
- 39:29Well, I'm not going to go out there and eat horse crap on the
- 39:33ground like some of these Eagle fans after they win a Super
- 39:36Bowl. I'm not climbing up.
- 39:37I'm not. I'm not climbing five stories
- 39:41and and lunging to my death because I win a Super Bowl.
- 39:44I mean, this is what Eagle fans do.
- 39:46They're absolutely nuts. And As for Jet fans, we don't.
- 39:49I don't know what they do because we're never going to get
- 39:51there. So we'll never actually admire
- 39:53what Jet fans are going to do because it's never going to
- 39:55happen. Never.
- 39:57So that's it. I'm calm, I'm collective.
- 40:00Steve, we love you. I got to go watch this game
- 40:02guys. Funny you say the Eagles.
- 40:07Cam Jergens lives right around the corner from me.
- 40:09Well, you'll be seeing a lot of him.
- 40:11Yeah, yeah, he'll, he'll be home for the offseason, that's for
- 40:14sure. Thank you.
- 40:16Thank you, Steve. I love you.
- 40:17Appreciate you man. Appreciate your time, Steve.
- 40:20Thank you. Steve, you're the best.
- 40:21Thank you, man. You're the you're one of the
- 40:22best in the business. We really appreciate you.
- 40:24Let's get you on after the season.
- 40:26How about that? We'll talk about it.
- 40:27You got it. The offseason.
- 40:29You got it. Ladies and gentlemen, we were
- 40:32just talking to NFL Network Chief of National reporters all
- 40:36over the NFL Network, Steve Whites.
- 40:40I'm sure he enjoyed that interview and some of my
- 40:42craziness. I did lose my mind.
- 40:46I but you want to know something?
- 40:48I, I love Steve because Steve's honest, but he's trying to be a
- 40:52little bit too honest and he, he doesn't want to hurt himself
- 40:56going over there and and dealing with The Jets fans or The Jets
- 41:00organization. When he goes over there as the
- 41:02NFL Network in the offseason, they go from team to team.
- 41:04Steve is one of those guys that goes there.
- 41:07He doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings, But I'll do,
- 41:10I'll do the I'll do the work, Steve, don't worry.
- 41:12But thank you, Steve for joining us on short notice.
- 41:16Honestly, that was today, right Speedy?
- 41:19I reached out to his publicist last night and they only got
- 41:21back to me I think at 12:15 or something today.
- 41:24I'm sure he enjoyed that interview and I'm sure he's
- 41:26laughing and he's enjoying himself watching this God
- 41:29forsaken game. Anyways, we call this Jabba.
- 41:33You love that, right? Did you enjoy that interview?
- 41:35No, it's fantastic. I love when you have so many of
- 41:38that caliber being able to break down it all in like in
- 41:41different, in different waves, because sometimes we, we kind of
- 41:45just pivot to one avenue of it. And he's able to basically break
- 41:50it down as a caveat of the whole thing as, as, as what he sees.
- 41:56Yes. And when you get somebody like
- 41:58that, it's it, it's just awesome to hear their point of view.
- 42:01Yeah, he tastes himself and. And maybe.
- 42:03I would have told you I would have too if I had that title.
- 42:06Yeah, I mean, I taste myself. And by the way, that was a good
- 42:10question. Would you actually put a steak
- 42:11in, you know, a microwave? But Jett fans would I?
- 42:14I know Jett fans would because we've been doing it for 50 years
- 42:17and still can't find a way out of going out and getting a nice,
- 42:20real good steak because everything that we eat doesn't
- 42:23taste good. All right, Speedy, let's go to
- 42:27your Stat of the Week. The speedy well you may run like
- 42:33me, but you hit like stat of the week.
- 42:40So everyone knows me as this notorious Chargers hater, but
- 42:43I'm going to give some praise to Justin Herbert and all these
- 42:46lazy football fans. I just want to make the argument
- 42:48that, oh, he's never going to win in the playoffs when it was
- 42:50really, Yeah, the offensive line that was just so historically
- 42:54bad. So this season, 129 hits he
- 42:57took, which was 18 more than any other quarterback, 268 pressures
- 43:02he took, which was 39 more than any other quarterback.
- 43:06And here's an interesting stat 109 quick pressures, which was
- 43:11he was the only quarterback in the NFL this season that faced
- 43:14100 quarterback quick pressure. So anyone saying that Justin
- 43:18Herbert was the reason that they lost the game, was he great?
- 43:20No, but what are you praying an offensive line like that,
- 43:23especially it's a Patriots team that doesn't have an overly
- 43:25great defense. Yeah, he's not the main.
- 43:26Issue it definitely wasn't and he wasn't even healthy and the
- 43:30offensive line he didn't have all he have.
- 43:32Slater, I'm telling you right now, mark it, book it MVP
- 43:36candidate next year. Don't be surprised if Justin
- 43:38Herbert is a top three candidate to win the MVP next year when
- 43:41Slater and all come back. That offensive line is scary.
- 43:45McKay, Becton, Alt, Johnson and Slater?
- 43:50Forget it. That could be the best offensive
- 43:52line in football. And the biggest, by the way?
- 43:54They're going to draft the guy too.
- 43:55Yeah, they're going to. They're going to get a center
- 43:57guard. They're they're not going to
- 43:59screw around. I think they're.
- 44:01Well, I mean, that's that's kind of what Steve said too.
- 44:03Are you, are you going to spend your money on the offensive
- 44:05line? Like, and, and I even said like
- 44:08fish loves this because you start in the trenches, right?
- 44:10Like. I feel like Steve said
- 44:12everything I've been thinking, you know, like I, I about The
- 44:16Jets, you know, just a disaster in house with Woody and sweet
- 44:20brick. By the way, by the way, if you
- 44:22read Steve White, she thinks the same way about the Giants,
- 44:25though, so I don't know why you're sitting there.
- 44:27Oh, he thinks the same way. That's.
- 44:28Interesting. At this point in the show, you
- 44:31bring up the giant, so we got some news about them right now
- 44:35in the whip around. Whip, whip, whip around.
- 44:42All right, let's begin the whip around with some John Harbaugh
- 44:50rumors. Yes, the hottest coach on the
- 44:52market is John Harbaugh. There's been a few teams he's
- 44:56been linked to. We heard Green Bay for a little
- 45:00bit. As soon as they lost that,
- 45:02maybe, maybe they'd move on from Matt Lafleur.
- 45:05A lot of people, including Steve White, threw some water on to
- 45:07that. Looks like they're going to try
- 45:09to extend Lafleur and even if they don't get them, it's
- 45:11probably going to take a while. They're not going to end up with
- 45:14Harbaugh. Miami we know moved on from
- 45:18McDaniel. There are ties.
- 45:19Apparently the Harbaugh's are very close with the Ross's who
- 45:22own the Dolphins. That is a connection there.
- 45:26But again, we don't know if that's going to happen.
- 45:28They have the issue with having not that great of a roster and
- 45:32$99 million of dead cap tide. The two of the Giants,
- 45:36apparently the Giants and John and Chris Marra had lunch today
- 45:41with John Harbaugh. That kind of came out about two
- 45:44hours ago that that was something.
- 45:46And the Falcons had a phone call interview, a Screener interview
- 45:50with Harbaugh earlier today. Obviously a bunch of other teams
- 45:54out there could look for coaches, Titans being one of
- 45:57them. Errol as time goes forwards in
- 46:00this, I mean for me, I think he's going to be the Giants next
- 46:04head coach. What do you think?
- 46:06I think there's a possibility. I also believe that you also
- 46:10have Mike McCarthy who's going to be interviewing for the job
- 46:13in the next two days. So he's going to get a chance.
- 46:15I, I do believe Kevin Stefanski, there's other guys right now.
- 46:20I do believe the Chargers defensive coordinator is going
- 46:22to interview for the job as well.
- 46:23There's still a lot and I don't think John Harbaugh that that
- 46:27announcements going to happen tomorrow or the next day.
- 46:30It's going to happen in the next couple of weeks, probably I
- 46:33would believe before the Super Bowl.
- 46:35We're going to hear where John Harpole is going to go.
- 46:37But I I'm not surprised that the Giants are one of the lead
- 46:40teams. They're one of the older teams.
- 46:43The Mara family is very well respected.
- 46:45Tish not so much, but they're an organization that you think have
- 46:51it all together but haven't won anything in I2 since 2011.
- 46:55They've been one of the worst, as a matter of fact, as far as
- 46:58wins and losses, I think they're they're as bad as The Jets.
- 47:02They're second worst to The Jets in the last 10.
- 47:04Years. They're bad.
- 47:05So if John Harbold takes the responsibility of being the new
- 47:10coach of this team, there has to be some kind of control.
- 47:13Because if he doesn't and Joe Shane gets fired at the end of
- 47:17this year here, you're putting them in a position.
- 47:19Yeah, I know what you're going to say, Fish.
- 47:21Well, he'll get his own GM. I I don't know if John Mayer is
- 47:24going to allow that. John Mayer likes control, as we
- 47:27all know. So I I don't know.
- 47:29I, I, I, I, I hope for you Giant fans it it, it bodes well for
- 47:34you if you go this route. I just don't know if it does so.
- 47:37Yeah, that's that's the other thing that's interesting too,
- 47:39because Atlanta and Miami both have vacant GM spots right now
- 47:43because Miami fired Greer in the middle of season.
- 47:45Atlanta just fired Fontenot, which I think it was a decent
- 47:47GM, probably better than Shane was, but did some weird things
- 47:50too. And the Giants, again, if
- 47:52Shane's going to have control, how much is he going to trust
- 47:53that kind of thing? Atlanta, we know it's more
- 47:55talent. I say the Giants probably more
- 47:56upside than Miami, but Miami still has the current roster.
- 47:59The one thing I will say is the Giants and the Falcons both
- 48:02gotten ahead of the they're usually later in the coaching
- 48:04cycle hiring guys, but good to see them getting you outgoing
- 48:07early. I think with Harbaugh too, and
- 48:10you guys kind of touched on a little bit, I think he he wants
- 48:14more control of it. I mean, you've been at a place
- 48:17for 18 years, you've seen what you've done.
- 48:19Like, he doesn't have to say what he does, but I think if
- 48:24he's going to go somewhere, he's going to want to have a little
- 48:26bit more control than just as the head coach.
- 48:30And you guys can tell me if I'm wrong because you you.
- 48:32Guys, there could be influence too with Ozzie Newsome too.
- 48:34Like maybe they're keeping in touch even though if Newsome's
- 48:36not directly in an organization. That's why I don't think he's
- 48:38going to go, if he goes to the Giants, I don't think it bodes
- 48:41well because right, I, I think marijuana control, we've heard
- 48:45this many, many. Times and and and that's why I
- 48:47preface that like being a guy like Harvaugh and what he's done
- 48:51and and Steve Egan said it too. It's like coaching's in their
- 48:53blood. Like it's not just coaching, but
- 48:55I think it it comes in in a lot of levels.
- 48:58And if he's not going to get that, do do you think that is a
- 49:04is a good fit when he'll just be like, no, if I don't get this
- 49:08control of certain things? I think it's a backlash.
- 49:13I'm going to tell you this right now.
- 49:14How many Baltimore Raven guys have we seen get spots?
- 49:18Defensive coordinator of Week Martindale was there.
- 49:21How long did that last? I mean, he couldn't get along
- 49:23with Dabel. And I'm not saying wink.
- 49:25I'm not saying John Harbold won't work over there.
- 49:27John Harbold was put in a great position.
- 49:30As soon as he got that position, he was set up very, very well.
- 49:34He got all he got. Ed Reed, he got.
- 49:36He got sucks. He got all these Hall of Farmers
- 49:39on his roster. He doesn't have them with the
- 49:41Giants. We don't even know if Dexter
- 49:43Lawrence is going to be there. They might move them.
- 49:45And yeah, they've got guys that played very well.
- 49:48Burns played this very well. They had a guy that they drafted
- 49:51that didn't show up to practices that slept late.
- 49:54How is that going to work, John? Hopeful.
- 49:57I'm just saying. On the Abdul Carter stand.
- 49:59It's true. It's true.
- 50:00Jabba, I want to mention this too, because.
- 50:02Lamar Jackson didn't didn't buy John Horrible at the end because
- 50:06he was the one that got him out. John, I want to mention this
- 50:09too. Steve Weiss was mentioning it
- 50:10with the Falcons, like they always hire these first year
- 50:12head coaches. I think especially after the
- 50:13last row where they turn down Bill Belichick, they turn down
- 50:16Jim Harbaugh right away and that ownership didn't want to get.
- 50:19I think they want to kind of recreate their image.
- 50:21The Dolphins are kind of the opposite of the Bengals.
- 50:23They'll spend money but they're GM like they stay too long and
- 50:26they committed to two loyalty blindly.
- 50:28All right, we're going to move on to the next story.
- 50:30Speaking of guys like The Jets, this guy used to coach The Jets,
- 50:35and now he says that he's earned the chance to return to coaching
- 50:42the Bucks in 2026. Yes, Todd Bowles, the head coach
- 50:46of the Bucks, they started six and two this year.
- 50:49They ended up 8:00 and 9:00. If you could do the math, that
- 50:52means they ended two and seven in the last nine games, falling
- 50:56out of the playoffs in the last week to the Carolina Panthers
- 51:00and their former offensive coordinator Dave Canales.
- 51:04They lost Canales and Liam Cohen in the last two seasons.
- 51:09The offense certainly took a nosedive this year because of
- 51:14it. You know, Bowles as a defensive
- 51:16coach, they're only as good as their offensive guys.
- 51:18He lost his offensive guys, he lost the team, they lost their
- 51:23way. But sure, he's earned the right
- 51:27to come back. What do you think?
- 51:28Breaking news. Smell my ass.
- 51:30That's what I think. There's no way in hell if I'm
- 51:33running my organization, I want Todd Bowles to come back.
- 51:36It's been a debacle with all these coaches that are available
- 51:39right now at your disposal. I'm going after MM McDaniel or
- 51:43somebody of that magnitude. I'm bringing in a guy that's
- 51:46going to run my office. Look at the weapons you have
- 51:48over there. Mike Evans, who's running at the
- 51:51tail end of his career. Godwin, you have a Buka.
- 51:54I mean, this is this is a offense that it could be dynamic
- 51:59and you have Baker Mayfield, you're going to keep Todd Bowles
- 52:02there in place After this debacle of the season in the
- 52:06what probably the worst division in football.
- 52:09I'm moving on from Todd Bowles. I can bring in Mike McCarthy,
- 52:13Kevin Stefanski, any one of these guys that will do better
- 52:16than Todd. Friggin balls out.
- 52:18He goes so long, farewell. Don't let the door hit you on
- 52:23the way out. I gave him the injury passed
- 52:25last year and I tended to give a lot of these coaches that deal
- 52:27with a lot of injuries all at once, that kind of pass.
- 52:30But I don't think you could do it in the NFC South like this
- 52:32year. Last year they were still 11 and
- 52:34six. They had the best EPA on offense
- 52:36and once those guys came back, they won six games in a row
- 52:39before they lost in the playoffs to the Commanders.
- 52:41But you can't do that this year. They were six and two.
- 52:43You talked about Arrow. Baker Mayfield was probably a
- 52:45top three MVP. Candidate 100.
- 52:46Percent behind DAC and whoever else who was on that list and.
- 52:49No thanks to Bulls. And yeah, I was going to say
- 52:52Bulls. I think at the time when Aryans
- 52:53retired was a fine culture stabilizer as like even with The
- 52:56Jets he always had a good relationship with the.
- 52:58Player do not bring The Jets up, but why do we have to do that?
- 53:01But I'm saying. Even with The Jets, he was
- 53:02always thought of as a good relationship guy with the
- 53:04players. He was just bad as a time
- 53:05management guy and a team that you're.
- 53:07Starting to act like Jabba. Jabba likes to bring up The Jets
- 53:10when it pisses me off. I'm, I'm mentioning that the
- 53:12Bucks can't afford to have this bad clock management and game
- 53:15planning type things when you have all these offensive, even
- 53:18veteran guys or young guys available to go go there for an
- 53:21offense if that's loaded when it's healthy.
- 53:23Yeah, I, I, I don't know about this one too.
- 53:26And, and it, it kind of hits home too, because we have the
- 53:30helm of the of the bucks and we got rested.
- 53:34And so if, if, if he agrees with that, I, I, I just don't, I
- 53:39don't know if he's earned that. I when he when he said that I it
- 53:44kind of it was a head scratcher for me.
- 53:47So I'm like what, what did you really do?
- 53:49Like you stall even obviously Mike Evans got hurt.
- 53:52We see that the tail land is the Hall of Famer 100%.
- 53:56But you went two and seven to finish the year or whatever it
- 54:01was. And so did you really earn it or
- 54:06are you just doing it on the notion of like, hey, I've done
- 54:10this before, isn't it? What have you done for me
- 54:13lately? Isn't that kind of what these
- 54:16guys get fired for and and hired for And you have so many better
- 54:20options that are that are on the table, right?
- 54:22Now the best options, It's been over for over the last 10 years.
- 54:26I don't think there's an offseason.
- 54:28I mean, it's very jet like that there.
- 54:31There's no the option. This is very jet like they
- 54:35finally I have to because it's very jet like finally an
- 54:39offseason with all these quality coaches that are available.
- 54:42And now you you have Kevin Stefanski, John Harbaugh, Mike
- 54:46McCarthy, all these guys that are sitting there waiting Mike
- 54:50McDaniel, who I love. But guess what The Jets have
- 54:54Glen. And by the way, I want to give a
- 54:57shout out to my friend Leaf. Everything we were saying last
- 55:00night, we were like, well, The Jets have Glen, The Jets have
- 55:03Glen. So every bad thing that
- 55:05happened, well, The Jets have Glen.
- 55:06Yeah, The Jets have Glen, that's for sure.
- 55:08Thank you Leaf for making me sick.
- 55:10I did want to follow up on something speedy.
- 55:12Do you know who led the NFL in quick pressures this year?
- 55:17It. Wasn't the Bucks, no.
- 55:19No player? What player?
- 55:21What player LED that about in quick?
- 55:23Which is you get to the quarterback 2.5 seconds.
- 55:26This makes my pressure. Hard.
- 55:28The answer was Abdul Carter. Oh, really?
- 55:32Yes, Abdul Carter was that fifth in pass rush win rate and had
- 55:36seventh most pressures. And and probably the guy that.
- 55:40Most another guy if I was John Harbaugh, I would want to come
- 55:43to. That that's right and and never
- 55:44shows up to practice on time and.
- 55:46Slows. In you say that, but after he
- 55:48was embarrassed by all of that, he had the most dominant finish
- 55:53of anybody in the NFL with 3 1/2 sacks, 6 tackles for loss and 11
- 55:58QB hits. Let's go Falcons, I guess,
- 56:01because they have a new leader in the clubhouse and it's their
- 56:05former franchise, future Hall of Fame quarterback Maddie Ice.
- 56:10Matt Ryan was named the president of the Atlanta Falcons
- 56:15the other day. He's going to be the president
- 56:17of football operations, newly created.
- 56:19Role like a serial kid he's. Going to report directly to
- 56:23owner Arthur Blank, who I think is 100 years old.
- 56:26President, CEO Greg Beetles was elevated above him but separate.
- 56:32So now he's in business operations.
- 56:34Matt Ryan is running basically the John Elway role now that he
- 56:38used to have in Denver. It it, it can work.
- 56:41It can work it it worked over there in Denver.
- 56:44I don't know what Matt Ryan knows as much as a guy like John
- 56:48Elway. He was there a long, long time.
- 56:50He won two Super Bowls, could have won five Super Bowls at one
- 56:53time. I mean, how many times did they
- 56:55went to a Super Bowl and failed to jump on like against your
- 56:58giants? By the way, Fish, I don't even
- 56:59think you were alive when that happened.
- 57:01I was 0 years old. But what I'm saying here is, is
- 57:06that Maddie Ice has a good personality.
- 57:09I've seen him on the NFL today. I I think he could be a quality
- 57:14executive. He just needs to put the right
- 57:16people in place to help him. If he doesn't do that, it's
- 57:19going to be a debacle. This is a good roster.
- 57:21The Atlanta Falcons have a very good roster.
- 57:24They have one of the more dominant running backs.
- 57:26They got a good tight end they have to sign.
- 57:28They cannot let him go to free agency, franchise him and sign
- 57:32him. Put the right guy in place that
- 57:34knows how to use a guy like Kyle Pitts and you got London and a
- 57:38good offensive line in it and a pretty good defense that you
- 57:41treat it up for in the offseason last year.
- 57:43This is a good team. Maddie Ice is put in a very good
- 57:47position to succeed. Put the right guys.
- 57:49Ovi Mohali, let's get him on the show.
- 57:52I we need to get Ovi in that in that press box, helping out the
- 57:57old Maddie. Ice, that would be great.
- 57:59Java, you've mentioned it too with a lot of baseball players
- 58:01that are in front offices now. You're trying to seeing the
- 58:03movement more in football. We talked about it coming on a
- 58:06up and down level with the Panthers, with Dan Morgan and
- 58:09John Elway probably is the most notable example with him being a
- 58:12direct icon with the Broncos. And then the most successful one
- 58:14probably has been John Lynn 49ers who had no no executive
- 58:18experience whatsoever came from the broadcast booth, Kyle
- 58:21Shanahan's disciple essentially and has built a stable team over
- 58:24there too. So I definitely think it can
- 58:25work. The fans are.
- 58:26Going to embrace. It too, but again, you do have
- 58:28to hire a real GM in order to do it first.
- 58:30You can't try to overpower everything because that was the
- 58:31problem with John Elway with the Broncos.
- 58:33It was when the Broncos gave it to George Patton four years ago
- 58:35that they actually started really building a good team
- 58:37after. That goba pass liquor.
- 58:39When you bring a player in, I think if you surround them with
- 58:42the right people, because now when it when you're talking in a
- 58:47player's relating to the team, it hits a little bit different.
- 58:52Not not to say that these other executives and whatever that
- 58:56never played the game doesn't hit.
- 58:59But when you have a guy that has been successful, that has has
- 59:02been through the trenches that gets it, I think it hits a
- 59:05little bit different. But you are 100% right.
- 59:08When if he doesn't have the right people around him, that
- 59:11allows him just to just to be that name and to be that face.
- 59:16And what we've seen with John, what we've seen with John and
- 59:20they have surround themselves, but they were also very, very
- 59:23successful what they did and they turned it into being
- 59:27successful in the front office. And you're seeing in different
- 59:31sports now putting those guys like a Sam Fuld that was a good
- 59:36baseball player, but now is is the front office and late.
- 59:41And I think when you have really good group around you, I think
- 59:46it just makes everything better because now the players can
- 59:49relate and they have a better feel.
- 59:53I think about it because when it comes from just somebody that's
- 59:57a business guy or numbers guy or whatever, pickle it.
- 1:00:01It just it hits a little different.
- 1:00:05And I think this is a great move because they have a great team.
- 1:00:09They have a great literally structure of what they're trying
- 1:00:13to do right now. And.
- 1:00:15I think if he does surround himself with good people, I
- 1:00:18think it's a great move. I don't thought before we move
- 1:00:20on I just want to mention too you also can't make the mistake
- 1:00:23of letting the ownership cater too much either, which was the
- 1:00:25problem with probably the worst example of an ex player.
- 1:00:27A good player joining a Foreign Office was the Macmillan with
- 1:00:30the Detroit Lions like 20 years ago.
- 1:00:32Was a terrible GM but the ownership with William Ford and
- 1:00:35the Ford family really got in the way for a while and I don't
- 1:00:38think Arthur blanks that type of guy.
- 1:00:40Luckily players have said it that he doesn't really get in
- 1:00:42the way as much, so I think so that's why it'll work.
- 1:00:45All right, let's get to the next one, which is the the they
- 1:00:49revealed the All Pro teams earlier in last week, so I want
- 1:00:54to show them to you. I'm going to bring them up on
- 1:00:56the screen. Let's go to this.
- 1:00:59I shut up on your face, Jabba. Like my shrimp cocktail?
- 1:01:04You're just a vile Nathan. That's just disgusting.
- 1:01:07I can't believe you would say that.
- 1:01:08I want her melons. You would, you would.
- 1:01:13So here we go. We have first team offense now.
- 1:01:15If you remember last year, guys, who was the first team All Pro
- 1:01:20quarterback because it wasn't the guy who won MVP who also
- 1:01:24played. Lamar Jackson.
- 1:01:26Lamar Jackson won for first team all pro and Josh Allen was
- 1:01:30second team yet Josh Allen was MVP and Lamar Jackson was not.
- 1:01:34I wonder if history repeat itself because first team all
- 1:01:36Pro is Matthew Stafford. Second team is going to be Drake
- 1:01:41May at running back. He got Bijan Robinson followed
- 1:01:43by perennial first team all pro because I think there's only
- 1:01:46like 3 full backs in all the football anymore.
- 1:01:48Kyle use check for San Francisco.
- 1:01:50He's great though. The wide receiver shouldn't
- 1:01:52surprise anybody. Puka Nakua, JSN and Jamar Chase,
- 1:01:56they have this position called all-purpose.
- 1:01:58I don't really get that but they gave it to CMC.
- 1:02:01Trey McBride, obviously the best tight end the league right now.
- 1:02:03The lineman bowls from Denver, Tooni in Chicago.
- 1:02:08No one saw that one being a good trade or in the offseason, huh?
- 1:02:11Or signing. Anyone, anywhere is a great
- 1:02:12number. Tooni wears Rock the Six Two
- 1:02:15baby. Obviously a mistake by the
- 1:02:17Chiefs. Creed Humphrey.
- 1:02:19Is that your cucumber or are you?
- 1:02:20Playing right next to him, minor, it's in Denver, is
- 1:02:23probably the best interior lineman going right now.
- 1:02:26If you get a chance to watch Denny's power run game, it's
- 1:02:29disgusting because they have two of the five All Pro first
- 1:02:33teamers and on their line and Sewell we all know is the best
- 1:02:36right tackle in football. On defense, the three edge
- 1:02:39rushers, even though we got hurt, Michael Parson made the
- 1:02:42list. Will Anderson junior is now a
- 1:02:43first team all pro. Everyone saw that coming and
- 1:02:46obviously Miles Garrett with his season.
- 1:02:48Jeffrey Simmons had the best D tackle season this year,
- 1:02:50followed by Zach Allen in Denver, the linebackers, Jack
- 1:02:54Campbell in Detroit, Jordan Brooks.
- 1:02:55I think it led the league in tackles for Miami.
- 1:02:58Stingley Junior was awesome all year for Houston when Jan
- 1:03:02Mitchell, we talked about it all season.
- 1:03:03Cooper De Jean gets slot corner first team, so they had two
- 1:03:07first team all pros in that secondary and then Kyle Hamilton
- 1:03:11and Kevin Bayard with the safety looks second team.
- 1:03:15Just a quick look at him. James Cook gets in there.
- 1:03:17George Pickens gets an all pro. Crystal Lavey with his standout
- 1:03:22season over there in New Orleans on a losing team.
- 1:03:25Great job by him getting into that after all those
- 1:03:27concussions. Guys.
- 1:03:29Anyone jump out at you here that you might have been surprised
- 1:03:33by? Here's some Giants Brian Burns,
- 1:03:36second team, All Pro, second in sacks this season.
- 1:03:42Let me let me jump in fish. And obviously in the in the in
- 1:03:45the first, obviously first team, they had fullback.
- 1:03:48Why do you think the fullback has has fallen out of love with
- 1:03:52football right now? Spread off it's it's a, it's a
- 1:03:55simple thing like if you bring an extra running back into the
- 1:03:58backfield, you bring an extra guy into the box.
- 1:04:01So now if you're not running a power I type of offense or like
- 1:04:07a 2 back offense, you're not really going to be able to
- 1:04:10spread out. Now you really only have 3
- 1:04:11receivers and maybe two guys into the flat.
- 1:04:13So you don't get to really use the whole field.
- 1:04:15And in the NFL you want to spread the field.
- 1:04:18And that's why in the last, you know, 20 years really since I I
- 1:04:22would kind of start with that Rams, you know, greatest show on
- 1:04:25turf team. You kind of see everyone kind of
- 1:04:28go into that spread fewer 2 back.
- 1:04:30So very few teams even have a full back on their roster.
- 1:04:33Just one of their extra tight ends that does that role or D
- 1:04:36tackle sometimes plays full back as well.
- 1:04:39So they just kind of don't do it anymore.
- 1:04:41But use Jack is an old school guy and he's fantastic at it.
- 1:04:44Errol, your big McBride guy. I know that.
- 1:04:47How is he still able to be a first team all pro when he had
- 1:04:51just a who's who of who's not throwing it to him this season?
- 1:04:55He's unbelievable and I had him on 2 of my fantasy teams.
- 1:04:58He has been as good as any tight end in football.
- 1:05:01Everybody keeps talking about Brock Powers.
- 1:05:03People forget about Trey McBride and what he has done.
- 1:05:06I I think and they came out of the same draft if I'm not
- 1:05:09mistaken. So right, two years apart, two
- 1:05:11years apart. But Trey McBride has been
- 1:05:14sensation, sensational. I've drafted him back-to-back
- 1:05:17years. I'm going to go with him next
- 1:05:19year if he's still available in the third round.
- 1:05:22He's special and so very well deserved and should get a little
- 1:05:25bit more a little bit more hype, but he's in Arizona and nobody
- 1:05:28gives a crap. Over there, yeah.
- 1:05:30The reason he didn't get a lot of playing time at the beginning
- 1:05:32his career was Zach Arts was still there too, so he didn't
- 1:05:34really break out until the 2023 season.
- 1:05:35But he was the best tight end of football by far.
- 1:05:37You mentioned Fish, the offensive lineman that I think
- 1:05:39deserve a lot of credit. Minors has been very underrated
- 1:05:41for a while too, and the all-purpose, it's probably like
- 1:05:43in baseball where they have the utility guy now, so you want to
- 1:05:45add another running back or another receiver that does a lot
- 1:05:48of different things. But I think they really nailed
- 1:05:49the offense, the defense. I would give some credits to the
- 1:05:51second linebackers too, with Lloyd, who I mentioned who was
- 1:05:54hurt last week, and Ernest Jones for the Seahawks.
- 1:05:56Steve Weis was talking about Seahawks defense doing a lot of
- 1:05:58things at the next level, and he's doing a great job.
- 1:06:00Yeah, you know, you got some familiar names on here.
- 1:06:02Certain gets second team this season.
- 1:06:05Hufonga, what a great acquisition by Denver to get
- 1:06:09him. Everyone knew that was going to
- 1:06:10be good. McKinney, the gift that keeps
- 1:06:12giving on giving to the Giants two times in a row.
- 1:06:15He's an All pro since he's left. And the Bee for one of the
- 1:06:17draft. The Cowboys to draft him over CD
- 1:06:19lamp. Leonard Williams, another guy,
- 1:06:21the Giants said. Yeah, we don't need you either,
- 1:06:24you know, another second team, all pro.
- 1:06:26I wonder why the Giants haven't been good that recently.
- 1:06:29That's a Jet The Jets draft of Leonard Williams.
- 1:06:31Well, the yeah true, but The Jets, we know that they had to
- 1:06:34move on from they got good value for him too.
- 1:06:36Derwin James bounce back season on the Chargers.
- 1:06:40He really had some bad statistical seasons, a couple in
- 1:06:42a row. Everyone knew he was good and it
- 1:06:45was kind of the coaching. Now he has coaching and he's
- 1:06:47been good again the last couple of years.
- 1:06:49So I guess we'll move on to the last one before we get out of
- 1:06:53it. And that is a something that we
- 1:06:56talked about Errol in private that I wanted to bring on to the
- 1:06:59screen. It's really frustrating as a
- 1:07:03Giants fan to watch the Giants always win 2 out of the last
- 1:07:07three games every season and screw up our chance of the first
- 1:07:11overall pick. As a Jets fan you're you watch
- 1:07:14the Raiders bench all their best players so that they wouldn't
- 1:07:19give up the chance at this pick. When you take a look at the NBA,
- 1:07:23you take a look at the NHL, and they've been doing the draft
- 1:07:26lottery since the day the days of frozen envelopes and Patrick
- 1:07:30Ewing. You guys are going to like this
- 1:07:31one. Would a draft lottery stop this
- 1:07:36epidemic of tanking and this horrible football we see the
- 1:07:39last couple of weeks of the season?
- 1:07:41Arrow. 100% what the Raiders have done over the years, what
- 1:07:46the Browns have done over the years, not and and The Jets say
- 1:07:50whatever you want as a Jet fan, The Jets always find a way to
- 1:07:53win games when they shouldn't. I remember a couple of years ago
- 1:07:56against the Rams where they could have gotten Trevor
- 1:07:58Lawrence, where everybody wanted to jump off a plank, they
- 1:08:01drafted Zach Wilson. We know what happened with that.
- 1:08:03I mean, it pisses you off and, and what really upsets me more
- 1:08:07than anything is Roger Goodell should understand what all the
- 1:08:11other leagues are doing. The NH LS doing it, the NBA has
- 1:08:16done it. The MLB is doing it.
- 1:08:18Why shouldn't the NFL do it? It makes a lot of sense.
- 1:08:22It will keep teams actually playing at the end of the season
- 1:08:26and wanting to work and try to win for the players and the
- 1:08:29fans. It's it's despicable.
- 1:08:31I think it's absolutely despicable sitting here today
- 1:08:35that the NFL hasn't figured this one out.
- 1:08:38That's how stupid Roger Goodell and the executives and owners
- 1:08:42are right now with the NFL. They love the money and they
- 1:08:45don't realize that the Raiders and all these terrible teams are
- 1:08:49sitting pretty hoping that they can land a superstar quarterback
- 1:08:53like a Joe Burrow or a Lamar Jackson who was late round pick
- 1:08:57or anyone of these topped up Peyton Manning or any of these
- 1:09:01guys. It it makes you sick to your
- 1:09:03stomach. Absolutely despicable.
- 1:09:04The NFL needs to do something. I have been just absolutely
- 1:09:08discouraged when I sit here. I don't care if it's Dante Moore
- 1:09:11or it it could be Mendoza. The fact here is is the Raiders
- 1:09:16are sitting pretty because they decided, hey, I'm going to sick
- 1:09:19Crosby, I'm going to sick Brock Bowers and I'm going to tell the
- 1:09:22league to go F themselves. I'm sick.
- 1:09:24I'm I'm just absolutely, it's humiliation.
- 1:09:27I'm done. Yeah, My main issue with the
- 1:09:29lottery systems in the NBA and the NHL have always been more
- 1:09:33that they just do it based on percentages rather than the
- 1:09:35actual points or the actual amount of wins that you have.
- 1:09:37And it should be based more on closeness because of that.
- 1:09:40Now, in the NFLI, don't know if you could have that kind of
- 1:09:42thing because the teams are so close or there's so many
- 1:09:44tiebreaker scenarios that could factor in.
- 1:09:46That being said, I do agree with you with the Raiders, like
- 1:09:47blatantly showing that they're doing it.
- 1:09:49They should get a penalty for that in some capacity, whether
- 1:09:52it's maybe a salary cap hit, whether it's a fine, whether
- 1:09:55it's something that. Would you go with the lottery?
- 1:09:57Speed. See, I don't think it would work
- 1:09:59in the NFL because I think because I think there's too many
- 1:10:01tiebreaker scenarios that would. There is no tiebreaker.
- 1:10:05It's a lottery. You get the right balls and you
- 1:10:08get the number one pick. There is no tiebreaker.
- 1:10:10See again the way I have the system though with the NBA and
- 1:10:12the. Stupid crap wins to loss ratio
- 1:10:16to strength of schedule. This is bull.
- 1:10:19Again, I think it's really flawed in the NBA.
- 1:10:20Now granted, you've always mentioned the NB as rigged, and
- 1:10:22I do agree with you on that. Where the percentage?
- 1:10:24Do what the NHL does. OK, fine.
- 1:10:26I'm just saying the the percentage system I think is
- 1:10:28still flawed anyway where #1 should not get a significant gap
- 1:10:32over #2 if number one team has has one less point then #2 like
- 1:10:37I think it's a very flawed system and same thing.
- 1:10:39You're nitpicking the NFL or any of these flawed things when
- 1:10:42someone thinks. They're picking the percentage
- 1:10:44process. Here's here's the process.
- 1:10:46Do a damn lottery. This is despicable that the NFL
- 1:10:50is sitting here and allowing the Raiders to choke at the end of
- 1:10:53the season for you to even argue this and say well the NFL this
- 1:10:57and the NFL no. Well, no.
- 1:10:58What bothers what bothers me is too is like they knowingly know
- 1:11:03that if they're not starting and and what do Raiders fans want to
- 1:11:07see? They want to see Brock Bauer,
- 1:11:09they want to see Max Crosby and they know it's like, OK, well, I
- 1:11:14don't want to hurt myself. Only reason they may would play
- 1:11:18is probably they have a performance bonus or something
- 1:11:20like that. So they're not going to put them
- 1:11:23on the field knowing that they're still going to get the
- 1:11:25pick if they play. Obviously they're game changers.
- 1:11:29They're they're not going to go out there because they're not
- 1:11:31going to hurt themselves to hurt their money.
- 1:11:34But now they know well, if we don't even play in them, then we
- 1:11:39don't work. And I there needs to be a
- 1:11:41lottery because what happens too, and we've talked about this
- 1:11:44a little bit in the NBA with healthy scratches, like some
- 1:11:47people pay a lot of money to come see you.
- 1:11:49What I loved about Joe Burrow when he said what he said he
- 1:11:53goes, I make a lot of money to play a game.
- 1:11:55I don't have to come back, but I come back because of fans and
- 1:11:58I'd love to play this game. And now you have guys like, well
- 1:12:03be better next year so I don't have to play.
- 1:12:06So take that away. Take that away.
- 1:12:11You signed up to be an NFL player.
- 1:12:14You answer the bell. You don't get a chance to just
