- 0:00Speaker 1: Mark Simone.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Mr.
- 0:01Speaker 1: New York.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Now three hours every weekday from 9 till noon on 710WOR.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Well, hey, this UN week has just been awful, disruptive,
- 0:16Speaker 1: screwing up everybody in New York City. Not just the traffic,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but pedestrians too. All these road closures, sidewalk closures, street closures. Today,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Netanyahu speaks at the UN. That's a very big, big day,
- 0:28Speaker 1: so that'll mean a lot of tie-ups, a lot of security,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but then it'll start to ease up a little tomorrow.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And then they got this UN week next week, but
- 0:37Speaker 1: it's different. It won't be the world leaders. They'll be
- 0:40Speaker 1: leaving over the weekend. By Monday, most of them will
- 0:42Speaker 1: be gone. So you'll still have UN activity, but not
- 0:45Speaker 1: the massive street closures and sidewalks closed. If you might
- 0:51Speaker 1: have been standing in the right spot where they got
- 0:54Speaker 1: all the barriers up and you can't cross the street
- 0:56Speaker 1: and If you actually saw the presidential motorcade come by,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it's something to watch, almost ludicrous kind of. It's like
- 1:06Speaker 1: literally 50 motorcycles in a formation coming down the street.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And then after that, a bunch of big black SUVs
- 1:13Speaker 1: with all kinds of flashing lights. And then the presidential limousine,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the beast. It's an incredible car. But it's not just
- 1:21Speaker 1: one beast. Three of them. Three of them in a
- 1:26Speaker 1: row come by. I guess that's because that way you're
- 1:28Speaker 1: not sure exactly which one he's in. But if you look,
- 1:31Speaker 1: you can see which one he's in. And then followed
- 1:34Speaker 1: by a lot of black SUVs, followed by two ambulances,
- 1:38Speaker 1: followed by cars with all kinds of weapons and Stinger
- 1:42Speaker 1: missiles on top of them. It's an amazing thing to watch.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But we should be easing up a little tomorrow, which
- 1:50Speaker 1: is Friday, and then by Monday should be much, much better. Hey,
- 1:52Speaker 1: let's take some calls. Let's go to Jerry in Delaware. Jerry,
- 1:56Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 1:58Speaker 3: Hey, good morning, Mark.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yes, Jerry.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Hey, yesterday I heard you talk about the New Yorkers
- 2:05Speaker 3: moving to Delaware.
- 2:06Speaker 1: They're all moving to Delaware.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yeah, well, they moved down here and they're not happy.
- 2:13Speaker 1: All right, now listen, once they all get there, you
- 2:15Speaker 1: can't keep talking like this. You can't be calm and
- 2:17Speaker 1: you're going to have to go, how are you? And
- 2:19Speaker 1: you're going to have to talk faster and shove and
- 2:22Speaker 1: push everybody. Can you handle that?
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, it's nice, but... they really been building houses
- 2:31Speaker 3: like crazy here. Like these developments, 300, 500,000 or 300 homes,
- 2:36Speaker 3: 500 homes. Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So in case anybody doesn't know Delaware, it's like the
- 2:40Speaker 1: number one place seniors are moving to from New York.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's like, what is it? You have low taxes there
- 2:45Speaker 1: or no taxes, no state tax.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 3: It's like no sales tax on some things. There's like
- 2:51Speaker 3: your car and stuff. Yeah. Tax on that. But yeah,
- 2:55Speaker 3: But the problem is they put these gigantic developments in,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and the east-west roads here are only two lanes.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Oh.
- 3:03Speaker 1: See, that's the other thing. They do that in Austin, Texas,
- 3:05Speaker 1: right over there in New Jersey. They built a million
- 3:10Speaker 1: skyscrapers along the water, but all they got is River Road.
- 3:13Speaker 1: They forgot to add some roads. So you got that problem, too.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So, I mean, we moved down here from Jersey in 2011.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 3: But we're used to traffic, and a New Yorker should
- 3:25Speaker 3: be used to traffic.
- 3:27Speaker 1: What made you pick Delaware? What made you pick Delaware?
- 3:30Speaker 1: Just because it was cheaper in Delaware, easier?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we were retiring.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And what is there to do in Delaware?
- 3:37Speaker 3: You got the beaches. You got golf.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Okay, that's the summer. What do you do in the
- 3:45Speaker 1: winter there?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Well, actually, I play golf all winter, pretty much. As
- 3:50Speaker 3: long as it's 30 degrees, I'll play.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I'm just saying, look where I'm sitting right now, right now.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Look where I'm sitting. It's like 200 feet away, I
- 3:56Speaker 1: got Carnegie Hall. Right over there, I got the greatest
- 3:58Speaker 1: shopping in the world. There's Bergdorf, there's this, there's that.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Right over that way, there's Broadway. Surrounding us are hundreds
- 4:05Speaker 1: of the hottest restaurants. What do you do in Delaware?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it is a travel. You got to go north.
- 4:12Speaker 1: How far is Philadelphia from here?
- 4:16Speaker 3: It's about a two-hour ride.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That's not so close.
- 4:21Speaker 3: We're down in Louis. Sorry to jump to Cape May.
- 4:25Speaker 3: That's some of our stuff.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'm glad you moved to Delaware. I hate to break
- 4:29Speaker 1: it to you. You sound like a beaten man. You
- 4:31Speaker 1: sound totally defeated by Delaware.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Now we're thinking of moving south to North Carolina or
- 4:37Speaker 3: South Carolina.
- 4:40Speaker 1: All right. Thanks for calling. Good call, Jerry. See, I'm
- 4:43Speaker 1: just telling you, that's what happens when you leave New York.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I bet you I talked to this guy 10 years
- 4:47Speaker 1: ago in New Jersey. He'd call up and go, hey,
- 4:48Speaker 1: how are you? Move to Delaware.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Hello.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It wears you down. Same thing with Florida. I know
- 4:56Speaker 1: guys that moved to Florida. They were like media guys
- 4:58Speaker 1: here in New York. You could call them up and
- 5:00Speaker 1: tell them a million things. They go, okay, yeah, right. Okay,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm going to write them. Now you call them in Florida.
- 5:05Speaker 1: You tell them one thing. They go, what'd you say?
- 5:10Speaker 1: You slow down when you leave New York. Let's go
- 5:13Speaker 1: to Mike in Florida. He's an exception. Mike in Florida,
- 5:16Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Good morning, Mark. You're absolutely right about slowing down. If
- 5:22Speaker 2: I talk to somebody and I put out more than
- 5:25Speaker 2: two thoughts to them, they're completely baffled and confused.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It happens.
- 5:29Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 5:30Speaker 1: There's another media guy, big media guy. I don't want
- 5:32Speaker 1: to mention any names, but I used to watch this
- 5:34Speaker 1: guy cross the street. He'd go in and out of
- 5:36Speaker 1: the cars. He'd walk right over the car. He'd boom, boom,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and cross it. Last time he visited, He couldn't cross
- 5:40Speaker 1: the street. He goes, oh, oh, oh, all these cars.
- 5:43Speaker 1: He was afraid of them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: You know, it's funny. I still walk that way down here,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and I walk after dinner every night. I walk through
- 5:53Speaker 2: a mall, a shopping center, out to a shopping center.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And I walk through the parking lot, and people will
- 5:57Speaker 2: come to a stop and not move until I've, like,
- 6:00Speaker 2: gone into a store or something. They're terrified to see.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And I said, look, I dodged cabs in Manhattan for
- 6:06Speaker 2: 50 years. They're not going to hit me. Believe me.
- 6:08Speaker 2: You're not going to get me. I promise you.
- 6:12Speaker 1: The way they drive down there, if they hit you,
- 6:13Speaker 1: it wouldn't hurt. They drive like two.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Miles an hour. It wouldn't hurt anyway. Exactly. Exactly. And
- 6:18Speaker 2: then I could convince them that they didn't actually hit me.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So it was even better. But, you know, you talked
- 6:24Speaker 2: about the affordability. When I moved into Manhattan more than 50,
- 6:27Speaker 2: almost 50 years ago, I was living in a studio
- 6:30Speaker 2: apartment on 88th Street. I was paying $ 350 a month.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I couldn't afford it. Everything was, you know, everything was
- 6:35Speaker 2: still relatively expensive. I mean, if you go, and if
- 6:37Speaker 2: you go back to, you watch.
- 6:39Speaker 3: An old movie.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Wait a minute, $ 350, 000 back then, that's the equivalent of
- 6:44Speaker 1: $ 3, 500, 000 now.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Right, exactly. So it's, exactly. But I wasn't making, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 2: what they're making now either, you know. So it was,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, if I was making $ 25, 000 a year, it
- 6:54Speaker 2: would be a lot, you know. And, you know, I
- 6:56Speaker 2: couldn't afford anything. I couldn't afford, you know, pizza was too...
- 6:59Speaker 2: Pizza was only 50 cents a slice, but it's not
- 7:01Speaker 2: like I could eat out every night. And it's expensive
- 7:05Speaker 2: down here in Florida, by the way. Other than housing,
- 7:08Speaker 2: it's very expensive to live. Food is expensive. Drinks are expensive.
- 7:12Speaker 1: But in those days, back then, way back down on
- 7:15Speaker 1: the Upper East Side, it was quite the swinging place.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It was all singles.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It was great.
- 7:19Speaker 1: A lot of action there. Remember all those bars and
- 7:21Speaker 1: all those places?
- 7:23Speaker 2: A million bars on 2nd and 3rd Avenue.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 7:26Speaker 2: It was nothing but.
- 7:28Speaker 1: The hottest women, nothing but action. Now you go to
- 7:31Speaker 1: those neighborhoods, they're all 80. How are you? It turns
- 7:35Speaker 1: out it's the same exact women. They never moved.
- 7:37Speaker 2: No, and they're all sitting in the bar with their
- 7:39Speaker 2: dogs now.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they all got a dog. How are you? But, well, anyway,
- 7:48Speaker 1: you're happy you moved to Florida, aren't you?
- 7:51Speaker 2: I'll be back in Manhattan before I die. You see?
- 7:54Speaker 2: I told you.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You'll all be back. Every one of you in Florida.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You'll be back.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Look, you know, it's just... Everything was convenient when I
- 8:04Speaker 2: left Manhattan. Everything was a block away. The supermarket... you know, everything,
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know, the bagel shop, the pizza place. My doctor
- 8:11Speaker 2: was that, you know, the subway was a block away
- 8:13Speaker 2: on 86th street. It was great. I didn't have to
- 8:15Speaker 2: hear you have to get in the car and schlep
- 8:17Speaker 2: everywhere you go.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And their life now is driving and circling around the mall,
- 8:21Speaker 1: looking for a parking space. That's your life.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's what it's like. That's what it is.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Thanks for calling Mike. I don't mean to put down Florida.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I know every, I agree. I have a lot of
- 8:31Speaker 1: listeners in Florida. Always writing me. Stop putting down for,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I'm just being realistic here. If you live in New
- 8:36Speaker 1: York city, Appreciate where you live. It's great. Hey, we
- 8:39Speaker 1: got a lot coming up. I'm here three hours every day,
- 8:41Speaker 1: nine to noon every day, nine to noon. And then
- 8:44Speaker 1: at noon, you got Buck Saxton and Clay Travis. They
- 8:46Speaker 1: do a wonderful show every day at noon. Then you
- 8:49Speaker 1: got the most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You got Jesse Kelly at six. You got the very
- 8:55Speaker 1: funny Jimmy Fela at nine o'clock. In fact, he'll be
- 8:59Speaker 1: with us later in the show here on 710WOR.
