Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
• 0:07
Speaker 1: What's up? Everybody? Welcome to move the sticks, DJ, Bucky
• 0:10
Speaker 1: A Ratt back together. Buck. First of all, where are
• 0:12
Speaker 1: you are? You still in Jacksonville? Right now? Where you're at?
• 0:15
Speaker 2: I am still in Jacksonville because that game was late.
• 0:17
Speaker 2: I didn't get back to the hotel room until about
• 0:19
Speaker 2: two o'clock after all the.
• 0:21
  Speaker 1: Loose Maybe, yeah, that's a that's full night's work.
• 0:27
Speaker 2: Uh why do we?
• 0:28
Speaker 1: Why do we? Why don't we start there, by the way,
• 0:30
Speaker 1: because we were talking about this a little bit before
• 0:32
Speaker 1: we started today, and uh, that was ugly man, Like
• 0:35
Speaker 1: I was watching that game last night, the Jacksonville offense,
• 0:38
Speaker 1: and we can go anywhere you want to go, but
• 0:39
Speaker 1: that was man watching that. That was not not a
• 0:42
  Speaker 1: good watch.
• 0:44
Speaker 2: No, it was not a good watch. And so like,
• 0:45
Speaker 2: let's let's back up. Let me give full context about
• 0:47
Speaker 2: the performance. So coming into the game, you had two
• 0:50
Speaker 2: straight losses, you have a fluid injuries on the O
• 0:54
Speaker 2: line and at wide receiver with Christian Kurtz not available,
• 0:57
Speaker 2: and that's you get Jamal Agnew back. You have a
• 1:00
Speaker 2: quarterback who has been coming off a high ankle sprame,
• 1:02
Speaker 2: and so you're trying to put all this together. Doug
• 1:05
Speaker 2: Peterson has been kind of I guess, sharing play call
• 1:08
Speaker 2: and duties or press tailors to play callers. So they're
• 1:10
Speaker 2: trying press. Taylor is trying to figure out what to
• 1:14
Speaker 2: do with what he has. And so the goal was,
• 1:16
Speaker 2: because they had so many communication issue today, let's try
• 1:19
Speaker 2: and make sure we can get everybody on the same page.
• 1:22
Speaker 2: You saw them very early in the game, then the
• 1:24
Speaker 2: running game, the screen game, using that as an extension
• 1:26
Speaker 2: to drawn and what they did. They had two opportunities
• 1:29
Speaker 2: early in the game, and what happened. They missed back
• 1:31
Speaker 2: to back long range field goals fifty yard plus Brandon
• 1:34
Speaker 2: mcmahonus couldn't convert to field goals. I will tell you
• 1:37
Speaker 2: for a team, that is the confidence kind of fragile.
• 1:40
Speaker 2: When you don't get those points, you then begin to
• 1:43
Speaker 2: question some stuff. You have another drive where they're about
• 1:47
Speaker 2: to go in, they have a false start, they have
• 1:52
Speaker 2: a drop pass, and then Trevor Lawrence is running and
• 1:54
Speaker 2: drops the ball. It's really been a microcosm of what
• 1:58
Speaker 2: it's plagued the Jaguars all year. Turnovers, pre snapped penalties
• 2:02
Speaker 2: and falsey execution and key moments. Then at the end
• 2:05
Speaker 2: of the half, you have the great throat of a Jones.
• 2:07
Speaker 2: Push you inside the ten yard line, you have a
• 2:09
Speaker 2: chance to get a guaranteed three points. You can clock it,
• 2:14
Speaker 2: or you can be aggressive and try and throw it
• 2:15
Speaker 2: into the end zone to see if you catch the
• 2:17
Speaker 2: defense napping. Trevor Lawrence does the only thing that you
• 2:20
Speaker 2: can't do. They throw it, they complete it in bounds,
• 2:23
Speaker 2: tap it in bounds, clock limbs out. And I can
• 2:27
Speaker 2: tell you walking off the field, all the air going out,
• 2:30
Speaker 2: the balloon on the team, no matter what you talk
• 2:33
Speaker 2: about the licker room, we can do it or whatever.
• 2:35
Speaker 2: But the players walking in plump shoulders about heads like
• 2:39
Speaker 2: are to turn that around. Now there's no direct single
• 2:42
Speaker 2: point into sixteen, but you're looking like, man, we have
• 2:45
Speaker 2: an opportunity to get some points in those things. And
• 2:49
Speaker 2: you just have a situation where you may have a
• 2:52
Speaker 2: quarterback that's trying to do too much, one offense that
• 2:55
Speaker 2: is struggling, and sometimes it's just a bad combination, no
• 2:58
Speaker 2: matter how talented the quarterback.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, I just how do you have that situational failure
• 3:05
Speaker 1: as a quarterback and coach who've been together for a
• 3:08
Speaker 1: little bit now, and as a quarterback who's played a
• 3:10
Speaker 1: decent amount of football. Now, this is not Trevor Lawrence's
• 3:13
Speaker 1: first year, Like that can't happen. It just to me
• 3:18
Speaker 1: was that one play symbolized a lot of issues here.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: But then, I'll be honest, and I'm a Trevor Lawrence fan.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: I loved him coming out. I talked about how he
• 3:28
Speaker 1: stacked up historically with guys and he's done some good things. Shoot,
• 3:30
Speaker 1: I was in the building last year when he brought
• 3:32
Speaker 1: the team back after he had maybe the worst half
• 3:35
Speaker 1: of football I've seen from a quarterback. He came back
• 3:37
Speaker 1: one of the better half halves of football and they
• 3:39
Speaker 1: ended up winning a playoff game. I saw the bad
• 3:41
Speaker 1: and the good all rolled up into one day. But Buck,
• 3:45
Speaker 1: I'm watching this game, I'm talking about some terrible misses,
• 3:49
Speaker 1: like you could compile eight throws, like in cuts, seam routes, slants.
• 3:55
Speaker 1: They're not even close to the point where I know
• 3:57
Speaker 1: at the end of the broadcast they were talking about
• 3:59
Speaker 1: is there something on his arm? I'm sitting here going like,
• 4:01
Speaker 1: I almost hope there's something wrong with his arm, because
• 4:03
Speaker 1: I never I don't know this guy, that's this inaccurate rhet.
• 4:06
Speaker 1: I don't know what you saw when you were watching it,
• 4:07
Speaker 1: but I'm sitting there going that was my takeaway. That
• 4:09
Speaker 1: did not look like the Trevor Lawrence that I've seen,
• 4:12
Speaker 1: the good version of Trevor Lawrence.
• 4:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's it's unfortunate because it kind of
• 4:18
Speaker 3: reminded me a little bit of what we see sometimes
• 4:21
Speaker 3: when we get bad Josh Allen.
• 4:24
Speaker 4: It reminded me a little bit of you know.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Just kind of missing almost like just just there was like.
• 4:30
Speaker 4: This overwhelming intention, you know, like more so than what was.
• 4:34
Speaker 3: Required to complete a pass, get a first down, and
• 4:38
Speaker 3: to put it all on your shoulders. And it did
• 4:41
Speaker 3: feel like that was that was part of it with
• 4:43
Speaker 3: Trevor Lawrence in this game. And I think a lot
• 4:44
Speaker 3: of people going back to that situational awareness at the
• 4:47
Speaker 3: end there, you know, taking an issue with them not
• 4:49
Speaker 3: taking you know, spiking the ball and stopping the clock.
• 4:53
Speaker 3: I'm like, you know what you're gonna run in that situation.
• 4:57
Speaker 3: I don't have any problem with them snapping it right,
• 4:58
Speaker 3: It's just you can't throw it orth the coal line
• 5:01
Speaker 3: unless the guy is literally uncovered with nobody around him.
• 5:05
Speaker 3: So it does feel like there are some things, you know,
• 5:10
Speaker 3: that make you go, why is this, Why is this
• 5:13
Speaker 3: happening with a player of this caliber? Why is this
• 5:16
Speaker 3: still happening with a player of this caliber? And then
• 5:18
Speaker 3: you know he hits the throw to Agnew and you're like, well,
• 5:20
Speaker 3: I mean, obviously it was wide open and all that,
• 5:22
Speaker 3: but when you see him make some of these throws,
• 5:26
Speaker 3: it makes the ones that you're talking about DJ and.
• 5:29
Speaker 4: You know, all the more kind of mind boggling basting.
• 5:33
  Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a it's a real complicated
• 5:37
Speaker 2: thing and it's funny. Right, So at a time where
• 5:40
Speaker 2: everyone is talking about justin Field and that stuff, like,
• 5:43
Speaker 2: Trevor has always kind of been able to escape some
• 5:46
Speaker 2: of the criticism. It's only been now that we've seen
• 5:48
Speaker 2: his name associated with criticism and not necessarily living up
• 5:51
Speaker 2: to some of the lofty expectations that kind of preceded
• 5:55
Speaker 2: his rival in Jacksonville. It'd be interesting to see because
• 5:58
Speaker 2: normally what has happened when he kind of hears the criticism,
• 6:01
Speaker 2: he normally bounced back in a major way. It'll be
• 6:04
Speaker 2: interesting to know he plays on the stretch because no
• 6:06
Speaker 2: matter what it is, like it's three way tie in
• 6:09
Speaker 2: the AFC South. No one expected that, but it's a
• 6:11
Speaker 2: three way tie between the Jags, the Texans, and the Colts.
• 6:16
Speaker 2: The Jags hold all the cards when it comes to
• 6:18
Speaker 2: the tie breakers, So if they went out and do
• 6:20
Speaker 2: what they're supposed to do, then they go. But if
• 6:23
Speaker 2: this team somehow falls apart and doesn't make the postseason, Man,
• 6:27
Speaker 2: you talk about the noise escalating around number sixteen and
• 6:32
Speaker 2: the Jaguars, it'd be interesting stuff to deal with.
• 6:35
Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean you mentioned when we were talking about
• 6:38
Speaker 1: before we started about just a number of fumbles too, man, Like,
• 6:41
Speaker 1: he's just had a ton of fumbles, more than anybody
• 6:43
  Speaker 1: else in football.
• 6:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think twenty. I think twenty lost
• 6:46
Speaker 2: fumbles over the last few years. I think that's six
• 6:49
Speaker 2: more than the next guy, which would be Jerry Golf. Yeah.
• 6:52
Speaker 2: Ball security is an issue, and we all know, man,
• 6:55
Speaker 2: we're around the game, particularly this year in the National
• 6:57
Speaker 2: Football League. There's thirty teams that are still in playoff contention. Therefore,
• 7:03
Speaker 2: one score games than we've ever seen, and turnovers are
• 7:06
Speaker 2: typically the deciding factor. So when you're a quarterback gives
• 7:08
Speaker 2: the ball away a touch, it's hard to overcome it
• 7:11
Speaker 2: and look, whether it's his ball or not, protection whatever,
• 7:14
Speaker 2: quarterback has to take care of the ball and he has.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: I'm curious what you think buck of on the Ravens
• 7:19
Speaker 1: side of things. Lamar, you know, did his Lamar thing
• 7:21
Speaker 1: he has, you know, almost one hundred yards rushing. He
• 7:24
Speaker 1: was he was extending plays, making things happen. Isaiah. Likely
• 7:27
Speaker 1: his really has really blossomed since the since the Mark
• 7:30
Speaker 1: Andrews injury, which shouldn't be a surprise. They're an organization
• 7:33
Speaker 1: that you know, we've talked about it forever. They're a
• 7:35
Speaker 1: really good scouting organization. It's at certain positions, extremely good
• 7:39
Speaker 1: scouting organization. A tight end is one of them, and
• 7:42
Speaker 1: they just constantly there's one after another after another. They
• 7:44
Speaker 1: get they get that position rolling, so they found another
• 7:47
Speaker 1: one there. Lamar is definitely in the MVP conversation for
• 7:49
Speaker 1: what he's doing. But I want to ask you about
• 7:51
Speaker 1: the other side of the ball. Talked about some of
• 7:53
Speaker 1: the Jags issues. Matta Bik has another sack. He thinks
• 7:57
Speaker 1: he tied NFL records like eleven straight games with the
• 8:00
Speaker 1: at least a half sack. Yeah, so he was doing
• 8:02
Speaker 1: his thing, but it is Uh, I would say, reminds
• 8:07
Speaker 1: me of kind of when Rex took over the Ravens defense. Initially,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: I was there when that happened. Where it went from
• 8:15
Speaker 1: a We're going to line up and play and beat
• 8:17
Speaker 1: you up, and we're better than you too. It's a
• 8:19
Speaker 1: little bit of organized chaos, like they it's it's it
• 8:23
Speaker 1: causes you to be a little frazzled offensively. I saw
• 8:26
Speaker 1: it against the Chargers, and I'm sure you saw a
• 8:27
Speaker 1: little bit of that last night.
• 8:29
Speaker 2: A couple of things like number one, here's what I
• 8:32
Speaker 2: learned from watching the Baltimore Ravens defense.
• 8:35
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 8:36
Speaker 2: Prior to the draft, when Cal Hamilton was in the draft,
• 8:38
Speaker 2: we talked about Cayle Hamilton being one of the top.
• 8:40
Speaker 1: Here's my fifth player. He was my fifth player in
• 8:43
  Speaker 1: that draft.
• 8:43
Speaker 2: And so here here's what I'm learning and when I'm
• 8:46
Speaker 2: continuing to learn as a scout. Good players typically play
• 8:49
Speaker 2: well in the National Football League, and so we're just
• 8:51
Speaker 2: a good player, like sometimes we need to close the
• 8:54
Speaker 2: notebook before the combine because Cal Hamilton is everything that
• 8:58
Speaker 2: we thought he was going to be when it was
• 8:59
Speaker 2: at today DJ. He is their best defensive player. And
• 9:02
Speaker 2: I'm saying that knowing Brokewan Smith and Patrick Quinn and
• 9:05
Speaker 2: all those guys are great. He is the lenth fan
• 9:08
Speaker 2: to that defense. He plays down in the box. He
• 9:10
Speaker 2: does a bunch of different things, whether it's in the flat,
• 9:12
Speaker 2: coming off the edge. Mike McDonald has unlocked his talent
• 9:16
Speaker 2: and so all the things that people took him the
• 9:18
Speaker 2: task for what he can't do, guess what. He doesn't
• 9:20
Speaker 2: do those things. He is only doing those things that
• 9:23
Speaker 2: made him great at Notre Dame. So my thing is
• 9:26
Speaker 2: when we get to the draft, and I think we
• 9:28
Speaker 2: all have to remember how we feel about these players
• 9:30
Speaker 2: prior to the combine, and even though we're doing a
• 9:33
Speaker 2: bunch of different shows and we'll talk about these guys
• 9:35
Speaker 2: a bunch of different ways. That opinion that you initially
• 9:37
Speaker 2: have on players, more time than not, it's correct.
• 9:40
Speaker 1: Who's a fourteen pick? Buck? So he fell to them
• 9:43
  Speaker 1: at fourteen?
• 9:45
Speaker 2: Good? I mean, he is a man. He is a
• 9:47
Speaker 2: fantastic player. Matty Buik, who I remember you being really
• 9:51
Speaker 2: higher I thought leading up to the draft, like inside
• 9:54
Speaker 2: pass rusher and those things. Look they got him in
• 9:56
Speaker 2: a position where man, there's stunning and gaming and moving
• 9:59
Speaker 2: and stimming and do one all those things. And so
• 10:01
Speaker 2: you talk about the organized chaos, it's organized with the
• 10:04
Speaker 2: players in mind. It's not just lines on the on
• 10:08
Speaker 2: the whiteboard. It's how can I get Calvin Nooyd to
• 10:12
Speaker 2: do things that he does well? How can I get
• 10:14
Speaker 2: to Davian Clowney. Davian clown is gonna have double digit
• 10:17
Speaker 2: sex for maybe only the second time in his career.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: How can I get Jadaviian Clowney to do what he does?
• 10:21
Speaker 2: It's a very smart, well constructed defense that does put
• 10:26
Speaker 2: melegat puts the quarterback under a lot of pressure because
• 10:29
Speaker 2: they always line seven or seven near the line of experiments. Yeah,
• 10:32
Speaker 2: and you just never know who's coming, and a lot
• 10:35
Speaker 2: of times it's only four guys coming and they're free
• 10:37
Speaker 2: runners to the quarterback.
• 10:39
Speaker 3: The one notice concern I'd have for Baltimore now is
• 10:42
Speaker 3: Keaton Mitchell going down for the rest of the season.
• 10:45
Speaker 3: You know, just it feels like that group for that
• 10:47
Speaker 3: team gets beat up more than any in football. Their
• 10:50
Speaker 3: running back room has had some some major injuries the
• 10:53
Speaker 3: last couple of years. This is another one that didn't
• 10:55
Speaker 3: look particularly encouraging, and you know feel for Mitchell Wood,
• 10:59
Speaker 3: you know, really take and over in the second half
• 11:01
Speaker 3: of that game. But I mean, he was getting ten
• 11:02
Speaker 3: yards mop every time they were giving him the ball.
• 11:05
Speaker 4: So now you know.
• 11:06
Speaker 3: You're left, you're back to Gus Edwards in Justice Hill.
• 11:09
Speaker 3: And you know it helps when Lamar runs for ninety
• 11:11
Speaker 3: seven yards yeah on a hundred, So you maybe see
• 11:13
Speaker 3: a bit more of that, you know, as they try
• 11:15
Speaker 3: to hang onto that number one seed in the AFC.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: No doubt, and they've got a schedule. Let me go ahead, book, Yeah,
• 11:20
  Speaker 1: let me.
• 11:20
Speaker 2: Let me say this real, real quick about Baltimore, because
• 11:23
Speaker 2: Baltimore on offense, like Todd Munkin, has done a great job.
• 11:26
Speaker 2: But what he really has done, he's he's really become
• 11:30
Speaker 2: an eight year old kid in the basement playing mat.
• 11:32
Speaker 2: So what they do with Lamar Jackson, he's running as
• 11:35
Speaker 2: much as ever, but what they're doing is they're not
• 11:37
Speaker 2: running him off of traditional runs. Is hey, Lamar, we're
• 11:41
Speaker 2: gonna send everybody deep. They drive back. If you like it,
• 11:43
Speaker 2: if you see a whole take it.
• 11:46
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: Basically scrambling for rushing yards as a portant to the
• 11:51
Speaker 2: way that he would jutilize before. And it really pushed
• 11:54
Speaker 2: you in the dilemma because we play man man now
• 11:55
Speaker 2: those runs go the house. If you play zones, there
• 11:58
Speaker 2: are too many holes in the defense. So they really
• 12:02
Speaker 2: made the game easy for him, are really using them
• 12:05
Speaker 2: more as of a traditional quarterback, but allowing him to
• 12:08
Speaker 2: run whenever he sees fit.
• 12:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't him, but I was talking to a
• 12:12
Speaker 1: defensive coordinator about another young quarterback. I don't even remember
• 12:15
Speaker 1: who it was, to be anesty, I don't think it
• 12:16
Speaker 1: was fields, but we were talking about the growth of
• 12:19
Speaker 1: a young quarterback and he said, no, no, he's he's
• 12:21
Speaker 1: a totally different player. I go, how, so he goes, Well,
• 12:23
Speaker 1: he used to go number one run, he goes. Now
• 12:26
Speaker 1: he goes number one, number two run. So that's that's
• 12:29
Speaker 1: like the evolution there. But I thought I was thinking
• 12:32
Speaker 1: about that while you were talking about because it's like, hey, Lamar,
• 12:35
Speaker 1: number four, Like, we don't we don't need to worry
• 12:37
Speaker 1: about getting the number four if we're if we're if
• 12:39
Speaker 1: we're that long in the process, number three ago you go,
• 12:42
Speaker 1: you go. So that's pretty funny. RTT. How about Texans Titans, Well,
• 12:47
Speaker 1: a big winning uniform gate there in that.
• 12:50
Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, the disrespect the Titans.
• 12:54
Speaker 4: Where are the Oilers' uniforms playing the Texans. I thought
• 12:58
  Speaker 4: it was cool.
• 12:59
Speaker 3: I thought I thought the the literal had to to
• 13:02
Speaker 3: bum Phillips from Mike Vrabeus The Cowboy was pretty dank cool.
• 13:06
Speaker 3: Now this is this division has become super intriguing, and
• 13:10
Speaker 3: I'm glad we started with Jacksonville, who's you know, kind
• 13:12
Speaker 3: of been on a bit of a skid here and
• 13:14
Speaker 3: now falls to eight and six.
• 13:16
Speaker 4: By the way, so the Indianapolis.
• 13:18
Speaker 3: Colts and the Houston Texans here and the Texans get
• 13:21
Speaker 3: that way from taking care of business without c. J.
• 13:24
  Speaker 4: Strouden, without Will Anderson. Yeah, that's a toughness. That's a
• 13:28
  Speaker 4: toughness win.
• 13:29
Speaker 3: And I thought it was kind of interesting that Demico
• 13:31
Speaker 3: Ryans went to case Keenum as opposed to Davis Mills,
• 13:34
Speaker 3: who has been QB two. I think a lot of
• 13:36
Speaker 3: the talk on the broadcast there was they trusted the
• 13:38
Speaker 3: decision making of Keenum a little bit better to keep
• 13:41
Speaker 3: them in position to win a game like this, And
• 13:44
Speaker 3: I think it really it really kind of came to
• 13:45
Speaker 3: fruition there. Now we could talk about Keenum, you know,
• 13:49
Speaker 3: at a really nice game, but the fact is that
• 13:53
Speaker 3: defense for Houston played out of their minds. In this game,
• 13:57
Speaker 3: and Denzel Perry and Christian Harris together I think played
• 14:03
Speaker 3: their best game. Anytime that you can limit Derrick Henry
• 14:07
Speaker 3: to ten total yards on twenty total touches, which is
• 14:11
Speaker 3: an NFL record for ineptitude in terms of production, is
• 14:15
Speaker 3: pretty damn solid. And then you know another one that
• 14:18
Speaker 3: you know, we talk about like Kyle van Noy with
• 14:20
Speaker 3: the Ravens as being a really.
• 14:21
Speaker 4: Big, really good pickup.
• 14:23
Speaker 3: How about Derek Barnett for the Houston Texans that they
• 14:27
Speaker 3: got after the Eagles sent him pack and he played
• 14:29
Speaker 3: thirty four thirty five snaps in this game, was a
• 14:32
Speaker 3: dominant physical presence on the edge in the absence of
• 14:34
Speaker 3: Will Anderson, and then comes up with one of the
• 14:36
Speaker 3: biggest sacks of the game in overtime, pushing Jalen Duncan
• 14:40
Speaker 3: right into Will Levis's lap. I think, I just, you know,
• 14:44
Speaker 3: building your roster, it's never finished, it's always it's always
• 14:48
Speaker 3: a work in progress. Nicko Sario and company did a
• 14:50
Speaker 3: great job there. I think, you know, identifying a player
• 14:53
Speaker 3: that could come in and help them a bunch. But
• 14:55
Speaker 3: I mean, like they played the Texans defense played so well.
• 14:58
Speaker 3: You got Derek Henry talking about his future. You know,
• 15:00
Speaker 3: obviously the Titans are eliminating, you know with this loss.
• 15:03
Speaker 3: But I mean, like he says, definitely today you had
• 15:05
Speaker 3: that feeling that this could be my last couple of
• 15:08
Speaker 3: games in a Titans uniform.
• 15:10
Speaker 4: That's kind of a wow moment.
• 15:11
Speaker 3: And to do that without, you know, your two franchise
• 15:13
Speaker 3: cornerstones pretty special for the Texans.
• 15:15
  Speaker 4: But wow.
• 15:19
Speaker 2: I will say this about the Texans and we'll talk
• 15:21
Speaker 2: about the coach later. I can't be more impressed with
• 15:23
Speaker 2: the coaching job that both of these young coaches have done,
• 15:26
Speaker 2: like the jobs that Deviko Rans are doing with the
• 15:28
Speaker 2: Houston Texans. Look, he is wise beyond his experience as
• 15:33
Speaker 2: a head coach. Just the buttons that he's been able
• 15:35
Speaker 2: to push. You tell me that the Houston Texans are
• 15:37
Speaker 2: going to play without Nicocommins. They already don't have tang deal.
• 15:42
Speaker 2: This was a wide receiver crew that has exceeded expectations
• 15:45
Speaker 2: with those guys playing. Now you remove two of those guys,
• 15:49
Speaker 2: you don't have your quarterback in c. J. Stroud, and
• 15:51
Speaker 2: you continue to win games. Singletary, the running back, Leavon Singletary,
• 15:56
Speaker 2: plays and plays like a different guy than the one
• 15:58
Speaker 2: that we saw at Buffalo, dynamic, explosive scores, all these things.
• 16:04
Speaker 2: This is a team that you just talk about like
• 16:07
Speaker 2: the future being bright. They're just all in on whatever.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: Demico ran his seven, so look, hat tip to him
• 16:14
Speaker 2: and eventually we'll get to a hat tip to Shane
• 16:16
Speaker 2: Spiking for these guys are doing more with less. You
• 16:18
Speaker 2: just look. I can't say enough about the job that
• 16:20
Speaker 2: both of those guys have done.
• 16:22
Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. I'll give you a quick name
• 16:24
Speaker 1: here and then we'll take a break. Aus We got
• 16:26
Speaker 1: a bunch of other stuff to get to. But we've
• 16:28
Speaker 1: talked about Slowak being a head coaching candidate for the job.
• 16:31
Speaker 1: He's done as the offensive coordinator with Houston Texans, rightfully,
• 16:33
Speaker 1: So how about Matt Burke getting real love what he's
• 16:36
Speaker 1: done on the defensive side of the ball. And for
• 16:37
Speaker 1: those who don't know Matt, Matt was with the Eagles
• 16:40
Speaker 1: during their Super Bowl. He's been kind of a Jim
• 16:43
Speaker 1: Schwartz guy. He was underneath Gym. He had a year
• 16:47
Speaker 1: where he was in Philadelphia and he was kind of
• 16:49
Speaker 1: like an in between years. So he actually was the
• 16:51
Speaker 1: coach handling all the situational stuff for Sala in twenty nineteen.
• 16:55
Speaker 1: I believe it was Sala at that time, can't remember
• 16:57
Speaker 1: who was No. Twenty twenty one, Yeah, it would have
• 16:59
Speaker 1: been Sla just in terms of you know, timeouts, management,
• 17:02
Speaker 1: game management, all that kind of stuff. So that's kind
• 17:04
Speaker 1: of a nice started coach little thing. Now the job
• 17:06
Speaker 1: he's doing with Houston. He was in Arizona their d
• 17:09
Speaker 1: line coach last year, but he's he's went to Dartmouth.
• 17:12
  Speaker 1: He's bright, like he's he's somebody I would keep an
• 17:15
Speaker 1: eye on. I don't see his name mentioned a lot
• 17:16
Speaker 1: with these head coaching gigs, but he's got a presence.
• 17:19
Speaker 1: He's really smart dude, and he's done a nice job
• 17:22
Speaker 1: there with the Miko Ryans there with the Houston Texans.
• 17:25
Speaker 1: So I want to give him a little bit of love.
• 17:27
Speaker 1: We're gonna take quick break when we come back when
• 17:28
Speaker 1: he gets some more games, but we're gonna we're gonna
• 17:30
Speaker 1: start with what happened in one of the one of
• 17:33
Speaker 1: the more lopsided games I've ever seen in my life,
• 17:36
Speaker 1: which led to a couple of terminations. We'll get to
• 17:38
Speaker 1: that right after this, all right, guys, Well, Thursday Night
• 17:46
Speaker 1: never seen anything like it. It was it was pretty incredible.
• 17:51
Speaker 1: It was forty two to nothing. The Raiders were up
• 17:54
Speaker 1: on the Chargers at halftime. Coming off of a week,
• 17:58
Speaker 1: what four or five days previously where the Raiders didn't
• 18:00
Speaker 1: score a single point, they end up hanging sixty three
• 18:04
Speaker 1: on the Chargers. It's the most points the Raiders have
• 18:06
Speaker 1: ever scored in their history. It's the most points the
• 18:08
Speaker 1: Charges have ever allowed in their history. It was, it was,
• 18:12
Speaker 1: it was. It was a game. When it finished, you
• 18:15
Speaker 1: knew that there were going to be changes coming. It
• 18:16
Speaker 1: was just going to be what those changes were. The
• 18:19
Speaker 1: next morning, I did Actually it was only one of
• 18:21
Speaker 1: a few times I didn't fly back with the team.
• 18:23
Speaker 1: I had some family stuff. My daughter was graduating, so
• 18:26
Speaker 1: I went to Dallas. I did not fly with the team,
• 18:28
Speaker 1: but man, I was on a red eye and I
• 18:31
Speaker 1: was like, you know, we get a couple of hours
• 18:32
Speaker 1: of shut eye and then uh buck reat my phone.
• 18:36
Speaker 1: I mean, it was just ding ding ding ding ding
• 18:37
Speaker 1: ding ding ding ding, And then I thought, well, something's
• 18:40
Speaker 1: going on in the world. Yeah, and looked over and
• 18:42
Speaker 1: the Chargers had already announced it. I think it was
• 18:44
  Speaker 1: eight a m. West Coast.
• 18:46
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 18:46
Speaker 1: That both Brandon Staley and Tom tellsco had been let
• 18:50
Speaker 1: go as head coach and general manager, respectively, and the
• 18:53
Speaker 1: and it wasn't a surprise that that that happened coming
• 18:56
Speaker 1: off of the heels of that performance. And I'm kind
• 18:59
Speaker 1: of looking looking at, you know, individually in this game.
• 19:02
Speaker 1: That wasn't what it was. It was the overall expectations
• 19:05
Speaker 1: of this team this year, the money that had been
• 19:08
Speaker 1: spent which led to these expectations, and then the quarterback
• 19:13
Speaker 1: not being able to take the next step. And I
• 19:16
Speaker 1: sometimes you think of things and at the end it
• 19:18
Speaker 1: reminds you of something along the way that should have
• 19:20
Speaker 1: been a warning sign. And I'll buck, I'll get it
• 19:23
Speaker 1: to you first on this one. But I don't know
• 19:25
Speaker 1: if you remember us having this conversation. But they had
• 19:28
Speaker 1: their open practice, so they had money and myself come
• 19:33
Speaker 1: just to MC the practice. So we're talking over the loudspeaker.
• 19:37
Speaker 1: There's a lot of fans there. It's inner squad scrimmage.
• 19:39
Speaker 1: It's really a showcase, right the offense with their number
• 19:43
Speaker 1: one offense, it took them fourteen plays to get the
• 19:47
Speaker 1: ball into the end zone. And I remember just sitting
• 19:51
Speaker 1: there like this should be like your showcase, and it's
• 19:52
Speaker 1: Mike Williams deep shot. It should be you know, deep incuts.
• 19:55
Speaker 1: It should be like kind of that, Wow, let's get
• 19:57
Speaker 1: everybody excited. Yeah, and where whatever you want to place
• 20:00
Speaker 1: that blame, whether it's they don't have enough explosive players,
• 20:04
Speaker 1: whether it's the scheme isn't dynamic enough, it just shouldn't
• 20:08
Speaker 1: have been that hard. And it was in looking back
• 20:10
Speaker 1: on it, it was like, you know what this team looks.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: It looks a little older, it looks a little slower.
• 20:16
Speaker 1: There's not a lot of explosiveness. There's uh, you know, defensively,
• 20:20
Speaker 1: they've got all kinds of issues on that side of
• 20:23
Speaker 1: the ball. But just that one little that one little snapshot.
• 20:25
Speaker 1: To me, I look back on it, go, man, maybe
• 20:27
Speaker 1: I should have read more into that.
• 20:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, DJ. The same with the Chargers. I think we
• 20:33
Speaker 2: always talk about teams and what's their identity. I think
• 20:36
Speaker 2: if I was pressed and you asked me close my
• 20:38
Speaker 2: eyes and envision an LA Charger game and what it
• 20:41
Speaker 2: looks like. I don't really know if I can understand
• 20:44
Speaker 2: their style, Like they're not necessarily a glinded out team.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: They're not explosive in dynamic in uh maybe fun and
• 20:51
Speaker 2: creative like the Miami Dolphins, and so they kind of
• 20:54
Speaker 2: fall in the in between. You know, they have good players.
• 20:57
Speaker 2: You know, they have a good quarterback. You know, they
• 20:58
Speaker 2: have defensive pieces that should lead to the defensive unit
• 21:02
Speaker 2: being good. But I just don't know what that identity is.
• 21:05
Speaker 2: And look, look it pains me because Tom Toon Lefsco
• 21:09
Speaker 2: is like a personal brand. He's in the front of
• 21:11
Speaker 2: the show. You know him well, I know him well.
• 21:12
Speaker 1: And he's a red friend, you know, and.
• 21:15
Speaker 2: And and so I can't really say that, like, like
• 21:17
Speaker 2: the individual pieces don't work because they're talented. I just
• 21:22
Speaker 2: don't know where the where the where It's lost in translation,
• 21:26
Speaker 2: because you would think that this team would be better
• 21:28
Speaker 2: because they have good players. They just haven't played well
• 21:31
  Speaker 2: for whatever reason.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean the biggest one obviously, DJ you
• 21:36
Speaker 3: talked about it, the quarterback not taking the next step,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: and like and and you know, you know you know
• 21:41
Speaker 3: that no, Brandon Staley's got a defensive emphasis. But I
• 21:44
Speaker 3: think we all kind of thought that this was a
• 21:45
Speaker 3: really smart hire and bringing Kellen Moore in right to
• 21:49
Speaker 3: run the offense, and thought that maybe like this would
• 21:51
Speaker 3: be this would be something to allow us to see
• 21:53
Speaker 3: the full spectrum of Justin Herbert's talents, and you know, obviously,
• 21:57
Speaker 3: you know, you wonder how much injuries play a role
• 21:59
Speaker 3: in a season like this sometimes. I mean, Herbert's has
• 22:02
Speaker 3: seemingly been you know, banged up in some way, shape
• 22:04
Speaker 3: or form for most of this season. You know, Keenan
• 22:07
Speaker 3: Allen misses time, Mike Williams down for the for the year,
• 22:09
Speaker 3: and then you know, the Austin Eckler thing is kind
• 22:12
Speaker 3: of interesting, and we almost look back on that with
• 22:14
Speaker 3: that whole kind of you know, is he going to
• 22:17
  Speaker 3: be here?
• 22:17
Speaker 4: Is he not going to be here?
• 22:18
  Speaker 2: Thing?
• 22:18
Speaker 3: It's like, you know, did the Chargers actually see something there?
• 22:22
Speaker 3: You know, because he has not been as productive, you know,
• 22:24
Speaker 3: certainly in the run game, still gets some you know,
• 22:26
Speaker 3: some receptions, gets his hands on the ball that way.
• 22:29
Speaker 4: But man, it's just you know, it's like they it's
• 22:33
  Speaker 4: kind of baffling.
• 22:34
Speaker 3: And again it's like the second time I'll bring it
• 22:36
Speaker 3: back to the to like the Bills and like you're wondering,
• 22:38
Speaker 3: this team is better than it should be, you know,
• 22:41
Speaker 3: or it's it's not as good as it should be.
• 22:43
  Speaker 4: Right now.
• 22:43
Speaker 3: You know, they're better on paper than they than they
• 22:45
Speaker 3: are in the win loss column. So I think you
• 22:48
Speaker 3: know a lot of times when that stuff happens, Yeah,
• 22:50
  Speaker 3: I mean it's like, all.
• 22:50
Speaker 4: Right, well, clearly we've got the players.
• 22:52
Speaker 3: You know, we've seen the players make these types of
• 22:55
Speaker 3: plays that we can win with on a regular basis.
• 22:57
Speaker 3: When they're not, what where else do we go with
• 23:00
Speaker 3: a blame other than the coach?
• 23:02
  Speaker 2: You know?
• 23:02
Speaker 1: In the GM, Well, I think that's part of it
• 23:04
Speaker 1: is is you're paying stars, and you see I see
• 23:07
Speaker 1: this in baseball as a baseball fan as well, when
• 23:09
Speaker 1: you're playing stars and stars get hurt. In other words,
• 23:11
Speaker 1: when you miss Mike Williams for the whole season and
• 23:14
Speaker 1: he's making twenty million bucks a year, like they didn't
• 23:17
Speaker 1: have the organizational depth to replace what he what he brought.
• 23:20
Speaker 1: Corey Linsley gets hurt. It's a big drop off for them,
• 23:24
Speaker 1: and that's kind of the nerve center of their offensive line.
• 23:26
Speaker 1: I still thought there was enough talent in place even
• 23:29
Speaker 1: without those guys that they should have been better offensively defensively.
• 23:33
Speaker 1: It's complicated because they've you know, look, jac Jackson was
• 23:37
Speaker 1: a miss, and then you have you know, you look
• 23:40
Speaker 1: at the secondary and you're like, okay, you don't really
• 23:43
Speaker 1: have a big time corner anywhere on the roster the
• 23:47
  Speaker 1: linebacker position. They're not. They can't. They're not a good
• 23:49
Speaker 1: coverage group there. But so you can say, okay, well
• 23:52
Speaker 1: they're going to lose some individual one on one matchups. But
• 23:54
Speaker 1: yet when you watch the tape, more than anything, than
• 23:56
Speaker 1: more than physical beats, it's just they're just blown Like
• 23:59
Speaker 1: there's just guys running Scott Free. It's not like you
• 24:02
Speaker 1: just faster than me, you're better than me. You caught
• 24:04
Speaker 1: them all over the top of my head. It's what
• 24:06
Speaker 1: the heck is covering that guy? There's nobody even in
• 24:08
Speaker 1: the vicinity of him. So there was there was a
• 24:11
Speaker 1: lot of issues there. And and as I've said many
• 24:13
Speaker 1: a time this year, nobody gets hit with the right
• 24:16
Speaker 1: hand more than the Chargers. You know, when most teams
• 24:19
Speaker 1: are trying to take away your best player, they allow
• 24:21
Speaker 1: your best player to eat like it's you know, Thanksgiving.
• 24:25
Speaker 1: So they just it wasn't well, it wasn't well put
• 24:29
Speaker 1: together and coordinated there. But I will say I'm looking
• 24:32
Speaker 1: at the future here buck going into next year. Khalil
• 24:36
Speaker 1: Mack with a cap hit of thirty eight point five.
• 24:39
Speaker 1: Joey Bosa thirty six, Keenan Allen thirty four, Mike Williams
• 24:44
Speaker 1: thirty two. They're they're already like they're forty four million,
• 24:49
Speaker 1: I believe over the cap for next year. So this
• 24:52
Speaker 1: was a push in year. So to me, we'll see
• 24:55
Speaker 1: what they end up doing with these two hires. But
• 24:59
Speaker 1: to me, this feels like, hey, let's let's let's strip
• 25:02
Speaker 1: it down a little bit before we build back up.
• 25:05
Speaker 1: And you're gonna have to, you know, hopefully you can
• 25:07
Speaker 1: trade some of these guys. If not, you're gonna end
• 25:08
Speaker 1: up releasing some of them. And then it's going to
• 25:11
Speaker 1: be imperative. Now that you've paid the quarterback. As we
• 25:13
Speaker 1: always say, buck, hey, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round, you
• 25:17
Speaker 1: got to find some starters in there. Man, You've got
• 25:19
Speaker 1: to find you know, the days of being able to
• 25:21
Speaker 1: pay your center that much money are over. We got
• 25:24
Speaker 1: to find a center in the fourth round that can
• 25:25
Speaker 1: be a good player for us. Like those types of
• 25:28
Speaker 1: things that that's going to be what the future looks like.
• 25:30
Speaker 1: They got to draft their butts off.
• 25:33
Speaker 2: DJ Like, because you're so close to it, I don't
• 25:35
Speaker 2: want to get you in trouble, but if you could,
• 25:37
Speaker 2: if you could tell me like as the czar, like,
• 25:41
Speaker 2: how do you think the charges should play? Like looking
• 25:43
Speaker 2: at the division and looking at what you have that
• 25:46
Speaker 2: are statement. You know, the quarterbacks will be there some
• 25:48
Speaker 2: of the other pieces, like what do you think stylistically
• 25:51
Speaker 2: their approach should be when it comes to the way
• 25:54
Speaker 2: that they play on the field and the players that
• 25:56
Speaker 2: you have to bring in.
• 25:56
Speaker 1: To fit this s up, well, they need some juice.
• 26:00
Speaker 1: They need juice at receiver to add to the mix.
• 26:03
Speaker 1: They need somebody that can that can give you some
• 26:05
Speaker 1: explosives at receiver. They need juice in the backfield that
• 26:08
Speaker 1: they don't have that right now. So you know the
• 26:10
Speaker 1: tight end position, that's like the trifecta to me and
• 26:13
Speaker 1: I like ever it's a good player. But they need speed.
• 26:16
Speaker 1: They need to get younger, they need to get faster,
• 26:18
Speaker 1: and that's how they need to forge an identity because
• 26:20
Speaker 1: right now, especially with Mike Williams out, Mike Williams is
• 26:23
Speaker 1: a huge part of their identity because their identity is
• 26:25
Speaker 1: we are our receivers are a basketball team. Josh Palmer
• 26:28
Speaker 1: is a good player. He's going to be. You know,
• 26:29
Speaker 1: he's missed a bunch of time this year as well,
• 26:32
Speaker 1: but that has been their identity. It has been we're
• 26:34
Speaker 1: gonna Keenan and Mike and Josh are all physical guys.
• 26:38
Speaker 1: But now you lose two of those three for a
• 26:39
Speaker 1: big chunk of the season, Mike for almost all the season,
• 26:41
Speaker 1: and now you're left with, Okay, now we don't have
• 26:43
Speaker 1: any speed, and now we can't play bully ball on
• 26:46
Speaker 1: the outside. So to me, they've got a couple good
• 26:49
Speaker 1: young pieces on the offensive line. They need to continue
• 26:52
Speaker 1: to keep to keep going there. But I think to me,
• 26:54
Speaker 1: the quarterback, the quarterback is a freak show in terms
• 26:58
Speaker 1: of the arm talent, So get him some guys that
• 27:01
Speaker 1: can feature that a little bit, guys that can stretch out.
• 27:03
Speaker 1: And so to me, that those three positions, those three
• 27:06
Speaker 1: skill positions, and I mean, I you know, we'll see,
• 27:09
Speaker 1: we'll see what they end up doing. But that to
• 27:11
Speaker 1: me is the overriding thing offensively, buck is they're too slow.
• 27:14
Speaker 1: They've got to get more explosive.
• 27:16
Speaker 3: Well, the other thing that I would just say on
• 27:18
Speaker 3: this front is like when you're identifying a head coach,
• 27:20
Speaker 3: and I think you know a lot of times when
• 27:21
Speaker 3: you've got a special talent at quarterback, you're like, all right,
• 27:23
Speaker 3: we need to we need to, you know, we need
• 27:25
Speaker 3: to surround him with a bunch of quarterback voices.
• 27:27
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 27:27
Speaker 3: Well, I mean obviously that didn't work out so well
• 27:29
Speaker 3: in Carolina, but there's there's been other places where that
• 27:33
Speaker 3: has worked. However, I would say this team, more than anything,
• 27:35
Speaker 3: because there is talent there, needs to have the best
• 27:38
Speaker 3: leader of men, not necessarily a guy that's going to
• 27:41
Speaker 3: specialize on one side of the ball, but one of
• 27:44
Speaker 3: those like real CEO head coach types, game managers. You know,
• 27:48
Speaker 3: guys that can understand the situations, understand what's going to
• 27:52
Speaker 3: put us in the best possible scenario to win games
• 27:55
Speaker 3: and to finish games late. And you talk about all
• 27:58
Speaker 3: these close games that the Chargers are gotta have somebody
• 28:02
Speaker 3: who's gonna be able to flip those on the winning
• 28:05
Speaker 3: side for the most part.
• 28:06
Speaker 4: So like, more so.
• 28:07
Speaker 3: Than hey this is the next great offensive genius or
• 28:09
Speaker 3: hey this is the next great defensive genius, you need
• 28:12
  Speaker 3: a team genius.
• 28:14
Speaker 1: With Yeah, two quick things here and I won't belabor
• 28:18
Speaker 1: the point here and we can move on. But like,
• 28:21
Speaker 1: the first name that popped into my mind was Dan
• 28:23
Speaker 1: Quinn as a coach who's been to a Super Bowl,
• 28:25
Speaker 1: he's had head coaching experience. You think about the successful
• 28:27
Speaker 1: head coaches the Chargers have had in their history. Yeah,
• 28:30
Speaker 1: Marty Schottenheimer had been a head coach, North Turner had
• 28:34
Speaker 1: been a head coach, Bobby Ross had been a head coach.
• 28:36
Speaker 1: So I think, to me, having somebody who's who's worn
• 28:39
Speaker 1: that hat before it is huge. The other side of
• 28:42
Speaker 1: it that I think you got to have that debate
• 28:44
Speaker 1: in that discussion is Herbert now Man. He's cycled through
• 28:48
Speaker 1: a lot of different coaches, offensive coordinators, quarterback coaches, and
• 28:52
Speaker 1: it was at Oregon and it's happened here with the
• 28:54
Speaker 1: Chargers and not having the ability to settle in. And
• 28:57
Speaker 1: that's why I think, I think when you look at
• 29:00
Speaker 1: offensive minded head coaches who can hopefully build with him
• 29:04
Speaker 1: and be with him as opposed to a defensive head coach,
• 29:07
Speaker 1: and now that offensive coach you get up and running
• 29:09
Speaker 1: in boom, he gets a head coaching job next year
• 29:11
Speaker 1: and here we go again. He's got to go through
• 29:13
Speaker 1: another change. So that's going to all be part of
• 29:15
Speaker 1: the calculus there of what they do as a head coach.
• 29:19
Speaker 1: I do want to say as we move on here,
• 29:21
Speaker 1: Buck you mentioned it. Tom Telesco has ended up He's
• 29:23
Speaker 1: ended up really being one of my best friends. I
• 29:25
Speaker 1: mean he is. He is an awesome dude who it
• 29:30
Speaker 1: works his butt off and put a lot into this team,
• 29:33
Speaker 1: and they added a lot of talent over the years
• 29:36
Speaker 1: and just you know, came up came up short in
• 29:39
Speaker 1: the in the postseason last year. I think if you
• 29:41
Speaker 1: win that game, then you get you get more opportunity,
• 29:44
Speaker 1: uh and you can maybe maybe maybe they all you know,
• 29:47
Speaker 1: he's able to survive this this year. But anyways, he's
• 29:50
Speaker 1: he's been good to not only good to the show,
• 29:51
Speaker 1: he's been really good to meet individually. He is a
• 29:53
Speaker 1: good dude, and so I'm excited for his future to
• 29:56
Speaker 1: see what he ends up doing. And I got to
• 29:58
Speaker 1: know Brandon Staley pretty well as well the last couple
• 30:00
Speaker 1: of years. And you know, the the guy that you
• 30:03
Speaker 1: see out front that I think you know got labeled
• 30:06
Speaker 1: as you know, arrogant and it all happened too fast
• 30:09
Speaker 1: for him, defiant, whatever term you want to use. I
• 30:11
Speaker 1: got And I've sat and had dinner with him on
• 30:14
Speaker 1: the road. I've I got to talk to him each
• 30:15
Speaker 1: and every week in our interviews. Couldn't have been nicer.
• 30:18
Speaker 1: He's a good dude too. Man, it may and maybe
• 30:20
Speaker 1: it did happen fast for him. Hopefully he gets an
• 30:22
Speaker 1: opportunity to kind of work his way and build his
• 30:24
Speaker 1: way back up. He's a young guy, and he is
• 30:27
Speaker 1: you know, we always talk about football stuff. I I
• 30:30
Speaker 1: also look at it from this dude's a good he's
• 30:32
  Speaker 1: a good guy. He's a good father, he's a good husband.
• 30:35
Speaker 1: He's got a nice young family. And I think sometimes
• 30:38
Speaker 1: that gets lost when we when you sure, man, this
• 30:40
Speaker 1: guy's out, this guy's in, It's like these are people, man,
• 30:42
Speaker 1: these are people too when you think about that. So anyways,
• 30:45
Speaker 1: I wanted to get that, get that in there. We
• 30:48
Speaker 1: can keep moving here. I know, rhtt you've got to
• 30:50
Speaker 1: scoot here pretty quick. So why don't you get to
• 30:52
Speaker 1: your your next first? She'll jump around here.
• 30:55
  Speaker 4: Yeah. All right.
• 30:56
Speaker 3: So Brown's Bears and this was this was a strange game,
• 31:00
Speaker 3: you know because it's again one of those games where
• 31:03
Speaker 3: you've got people like, all right, justin fields here we go,
• 31:05
Speaker 3: you know, builds a seventeen to seven league going into
• 31:08
Speaker 3: the fourth quarter. I mean, the third quarter was an
• 31:10
Speaker 3: absolute disaster for the Browns. You know, you had to
• 31:13
Speaker 3: pick six Flaco through and you had, you know, I
• 31:17
Speaker 3: think through two of his interceptions in the third quarter,
• 31:19
Speaker 3: ends up throwing three in a game.
• 31:21
Speaker 4: But man, I mean, like, what's the what's.
• 31:22
Speaker 3: The thing that people said about Joe in Baltimore. He's
• 31:25
Speaker 3: Joe cool man. He is just like he is the
• 31:27
Speaker 3: most unfazed player perhaps in NFL history, Like it'd be
• 31:31
Speaker 3: a real tight race between he and Eli Manning and
• 31:34
Speaker 3: guys who just let everything just wash right over him
• 31:37
Speaker 3: and they come out totally fine.
• 31:39
  Speaker 2: Like that.
• 31:40
Speaker 3: You could tell him, you could yell out, you can
• 31:41
Speaker 3: do whatever you want. He's like, it's cool. I'm gonna
• 31:44
Speaker 3: go out there as long as I got another series.
• 31:45
Speaker 3: We got another chance. And so that's what I thought
• 31:48
Speaker 3: was really cool. And like the symmetry this was kind
• 31:50
Speaker 3: of funny. I mean, they're down seventeen to seven going
• 31:52
Speaker 3: into the fourth quarter. Last fourth quarter comeback of Joe
• 31:55
Speaker 3: Flacco's career was in Cleveland as a member of the
• 31:57
  Speaker 3: Jets right.
• 31:59
Speaker 4: Early this sea, which is kind of funny to think about.
• 32:02
Speaker 3: I mean, like some of the again, I think the
• 32:05
Speaker 3: first time he started, we had this conversation like he
• 32:07
Speaker 3: might be thirty eight years old. That dude has not
• 32:09
Speaker 3: lost a single Iota off his fastball. In terms of
• 32:12
Speaker 3: arm talent, he still can throw it anywhere he wants
• 32:15
Speaker 3: to throw it. The deep ball is as good as
• 32:16
Speaker 3: any in the league. And the throw he made to
• 32:19
Speaker 3: a Marii Cooper on the deep over route was as
• 32:22
Speaker 3: competitively eric, competitively arrogant as I think we've seen this season.
• 32:26
Speaker 3: I mean, it was like three guys had a shot
• 32:27
Speaker 3: to pick the ball off. Somehow it slips in between
• 32:29
Speaker 3: all of them. Mariy Cooper ends up turning up field
• 32:32
Speaker 3: and going down to score and make it seventeen to
• 32:36
Speaker 3: seven and tie the thing up. And then look, here's
• 32:39
Speaker 3: the other thing that we'll say about Joe Flacco, and
• 32:40
Speaker 3: it's probably part of the reason why he's no longer
• 32:42
Speaker 3: with some of the teams that he was at, is
• 32:43
Speaker 3: he puts the ball in peril like put He makes
• 32:46
Speaker 3: some throws, really and there was a few of them
• 32:49
Speaker 3: in this game, and a couple of them in overtime
• 32:51
Speaker 3: that might have gotten him. But but again he's like,
• 32:53
Speaker 3: all right, you know what, that didn't go well. Next
• 32:55
Speaker 3: one bang and leads them down there and they find
• 32:59
Speaker 3: a way to get get that field goal, go up
• 33:01
Speaker 3: and win that game. I mean, thank goodness that there
• 33:05
Speaker 3: was a drop on a hail mary that might have
• 33:07
Speaker 3: ended the fun for the Browns. Bear should have won
• 33:11
Speaker 3: the game on the last play on the hail mary,
• 33:13
  Speaker 3: but they.
• 33:14
  Speaker 4: Dropped it still.
• 33:15
Speaker 3: But look, Flackell gives him a chance, Bucky. That's what
• 33:17
Speaker 3: I'll say about what he does for the Browns.
• 33:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, Like he does give them a chance, and he
• 33:22
Speaker 2: also gives them confidence, Like there's a belief that this
• 33:24
Speaker 2: team has with the veteran with his experience, that he's
• 33:27
Speaker 2: going to help them win games. And that is just
• 33:30
Speaker 2: enough to umbold in that defense to play at a
• 33:33
Speaker 2: high level. When I look at the defense, and it's
• 33:35
Speaker 2: funny because I've been able to watch the two top
• 33:37
Speaker 2: defenses in back to back weeks. They go about their
• 33:39
Speaker 2: business in different ways. Baltimore, we talked about a little
• 33:42
Speaker 2: smoke and mirrors, a little organized chaos. The Browns that
• 33:45
Speaker 2: just say, man, we're better than you. We're not gonna
• 33:47
Speaker 2: looking around like we got the best pass rushing football.
• 33:50
Speaker 2: We're gonna put him in a wide and not let
• 33:51
Speaker 2: him go. We're gonna play man to man outside and
• 33:53
Speaker 2: we're gonna say we're gonna bring an additional guy and oh,
• 33:56
Speaker 2: DJ j Okay is every bit as good as we
• 34:00
Speaker 2: thought he would be. Oh he's coming out, having a
• 34:01
Speaker 2: chance to watch him up. Dude is an animal. And
• 34:05
  Speaker 2: they don't even say, hey, he's a safety. No, he's
• 34:08
Speaker 2: a linebacker. He's gonna play linebacker. He gets. It's just
• 34:12
Speaker 2: another example like sometimes we outsmart ourselves and saying hey
• 34:15
Speaker 2: exists and that the guy is what he does on
• 34:18
Speaker 2: tape and Jim Swartz and the defense they allow him
• 34:21
Speaker 2: to get after. This is a really good Brown team
• 34:23
Speaker 2: and the quarterback has just stabilized him enough to give
• 34:26
Speaker 2: them a chance to make some noise in the tournament.
• 34:29
Speaker 3: Just when they need it DJ because in the fourth
• 34:31
Speaker 3: quarter they were without four of their five starting offensive linemen,
• 34:36
Speaker 3: four of the five, in addition to the other injuries
• 34:38
Speaker 3: that they've had at the running back spot and all that.
• 34:40
Speaker 4: So just keep that in mind too.
• 34:41
Speaker 1: What j Oka was that twenty twenty.
• 34:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like it was. It was the COVID
• 34:47
Speaker 4: Draft where he had that.
• 34:49
Speaker 3: I mean that that kickoff still flashes in my mind
• 34:53
Speaker 3: from when he's uh, when he's running down on kickoff
• 34:55
Speaker 3: against Duke in that opener, trying to find.
• 34:58
Speaker 1: This Yeah, uh, I mean, wait, was it twenty twenty
• 35:02
Speaker 1: one or twenty twenty.
• 35:04
Speaker 4: It was twenty one, twenty one, twenty one.
• 35:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, I see him in twenty twenty. Let me look
• 35:08
Speaker 1: up twenty twenty one, because this is I always am.
• 35:11
Speaker 4: Well. It was one of those picks because it was
• 35:12
  Speaker 4: Cleveland draft had.
• 35:14
Speaker 1: The heart He had the heart issue, right, which he
• 35:17
Speaker 1: was My gosh, he was my fifteenth overall player.
• 35:20
Speaker 4: We all had him in the first round.
• 35:22
  Speaker 1: Fifteenth.
• 35:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, we all had him in the first round.
• 35:25
Speaker 1: The notes off all fluid, twitchy, run and chase some
• 35:28
Speaker 1: stand up on the edge. They'll run games. He can
• 35:30
Speaker 1: cover in the flat and cover tight ends. He beats blockers,
• 35:32
Speaker 1: the spots, extremely fluid. Yeah, and it was that. It
• 35:37
Speaker 1: was just that that heart thing, right, if I'm remembering.
• 35:40
Speaker 3: Whatever the injury it was Andrew whatever it was an
• 35:42
Speaker 3: illness or an industry Yeah right, yeah.
• 35:43
Speaker 2: He had that. But I just remember, like even the
• 35:47
Speaker 2: conversation was still about like, hey is he stated that
• 35:49
Speaker 2: we have to move Hi from mine back to the
• 35:51
Speaker 2: safety of the pot because he wasn't the old school.
• 35:54
Speaker 3: It was a thing.
• 35:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, But I but I can tell you, man, that
• 35:57
Speaker 2: dude played like his hairs on fire and DJ when
• 36:00
Speaker 2: he hits. He hits people to hurt, like he somebody
• 36:03
Speaker 2: near the sideline in front of me, and I was like,
• 36:04
Speaker 2: oh I clean, you know. I clutched my parl like, oh,
• 36:07
Speaker 2: I don't don't comfort far like asking this to him
• 36:14
Speaker 2: that you like And I'm telling you, playing the Browns
• 36:17
Speaker 2: up there in the dog Town they played with an
• 36:20
Speaker 2: edginess to him that is beyond believe. This look as
• 36:23
Speaker 2: a really well constructed defense with high end players and
• 36:26
Speaker 2: Grand Delfic who just signed the extension. He's even been
• 36:30
Speaker 2: better than I think some people thought, because there was
• 36:32
Speaker 2: some questions about his physicality and tackling. Yeah. I think
• 36:36
Speaker 2: sometimes peer pressure can make you become a more physical
• 36:39
Speaker 2: player because you don't want to be the guy that
• 36:40
Speaker 2: singled out in this film room session.
• 36:43
Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna uh, I'm gonna cut ret loose,
• 36:45
Speaker 1: not so we can follow Tom Allen to Penn State.
• 36:47
Speaker 1: I'm gonna go handle some other some other business. Yeah,
• 36:53
Speaker 1: we go, have you guys choose. By the way, who
• 36:56
Speaker 1: did you hire? Did you guys hire anybody?
• 36:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, Kurt Signetti jam, Oh yeah.
• 37:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, that's that's right. I like that higher yeh,
• 37:03
Speaker 1: Coach stake. Go go, go on your way. We want
• 37:05
Speaker 1: Ohio State. I thought that was a bad move. Anyways,
• 37:07
Speaker 1: go ahead, see it all right, So let's let's jam
• 37:10
Speaker 1: through these games. Buck, we've kind of taken some time here,
• 37:12
Speaker 1: we can kind of go a little more rapid fire here. Uh,
• 37:16
Speaker 1: here's a funny story. So the Bills they beat the
• 37:20
Speaker 1: Cowboys thirty one to ten. So I don't know if
• 37:22
  Speaker 1: you I don't know if I told this. I don't
• 37:24
Speaker 1: know if I told you this.
• 37:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, you told me, and then you change them.
• 37:32
Speaker 1: Solid exact score exactly.
• 37:38
Speaker 2: You tweaked it. Yeah, you had the right thing. Yeah,
• 37:41
Speaker 2: I put it in.
• 37:42
Speaker 1: I sent in thirty one thirty Buffalo, and it got
• 37:46
Speaker 1: posted on the YouTube pages thirty one to ten Buffalo,
• 37:50
Speaker 1: and the Cowboy fans were wearing me out, this idiot,
• 37:53
Speaker 1: and then a couple of them. I went through and
• 37:55
Speaker 1: I liked them. Last night. I was just curious to
• 37:57
Speaker 1: go back to read some of these tweets. If that
• 37:59
Speaker 1: was the score, I'll delete all my social media. So
• 38:06
Speaker 1: I send shopping at text. I'm like, dude, you're killing me. Man.
• 38:09
Speaker 1: I said thirty one thirty, not thirty one to ten.
• 38:11
Speaker 1: And then what's the final score of the game thirty
• 38:14
Speaker 1: one to I should have just let it ride. It
• 38:17
Speaker 1: would have been the greatest prediction that I didn't make
• 38:20
  Speaker 1: of all time.
• 38:21
Speaker 2: So we've said this, and I said this, watching the
• 38:25
Speaker 2: Bills do not allow the Buffalo Bills to get into
• 38:28
Speaker 2: the postseason because when you re said, the records of
• 38:31
Speaker 2: zero zero, all of the confidence that they will have
• 38:34
Speaker 2: built to get into it makes them a very dangerous team.
• 38:38
Speaker 2: They're dangerous because the quarterback is a one man show.
• 38:42
Speaker 2: And DJ what the Bills have discovered James Cook.
• 38:46
Speaker 1: James would oh, James Cook, Yeah, no question, no question.
• 38:49
Speaker 1: I went through and watched all those explosives. Buck. So
• 38:53
Speaker 1: the offensive line played really well too. Morse is pull
• 38:57
Speaker 1: he pulls on one of them. They're pulling like crazy.
• 38:59
Speaker 1: Dawkins pulls on another one of the explosives. Spencer Brown,
• 39:02
Speaker 1: the right tackle, working up to the linebacker. They pull Brown,
• 39:05
Speaker 1: They pull Brown again. The burst, the change of direction,
• 39:09
Speaker 1: they run a nifty little counter. It's just kind of
• 39:11
Speaker 1: everything's just going lottering, lottery, lottery. All A sudden foot
• 39:13
Speaker 1: in the ground and he's coming back the other way.
• 39:15
Speaker 1: A little misdirection, but he got dang. He looks just
• 39:18
Speaker 1: like his brother. He looks just like a young Dalvin Cook.
• 39:22
Speaker 1: The way he's moving, it's eerie. It's eerie how similar
• 39:25
Speaker 1: they looked. But the offensive line, I think their offensive
• 39:27
Speaker 1: line built more to run than they are to pass protect.
• 39:31
Speaker 2: I think so too, And I think in discovering the run,
• 39:34
Speaker 2: what they will do is they'll unlock the big plays
• 39:36
Speaker 2: in the passing game because they'll get people out of
• 39:39
Speaker 2: those two high looks. They'll get more one on one coverage,
• 39:41
Speaker 2: which to create opportunities for Stefan Diggs to get loose.
• 39:45
Speaker 2: And what they also would do by running the ball,
• 39:47
Speaker 2: they'll be able to distract people with Josh Allen would
• 39:49
Speaker 2: be a more effective runner. It's a team that look
• 39:53
Speaker 2: season is a long winding roads. They're kind of coming
• 39:56
Speaker 2: into their own at the right time. Indeed, they did
• 39:59
Speaker 2: the opp ortunity for the team to find itself as
• 40:03
Speaker 2: the AFC East champion if they just take care of
• 40:05
Speaker 2: their business down the streets. Miami has a tough slate
• 40:08
Speaker 2: coming up, so it's there for the Buffalo Bills to
• 40:11
Speaker 2: get in, and they get in, haven't help anybody who
• 40:13
Speaker 2: has to face them in the postseason.
• 40:16
Speaker 1: So I was thinking about this and this is uh.
• 40:21
Speaker 1: I think because of our age and growing up in
• 40:23
Speaker 1: the same era, you will you'll be with me on this.
• 40:28
Speaker 1: If there is there a lyric when you're watching the Cowboys?
• 40:32
Speaker 1: Is there a eighties nineties rap lyric from Public Enemy
• 40:36
Speaker 1: that gets in your head when you watch the Cowboys?
• 40:41
Speaker 1: Can't trust it? Can you just hear a flavor flame?
• 40:46
Speaker 1: Can just hear a flavor flavors? Every time I watch it?
• 40:49
  Speaker 1: Can't trust it?
• 40:52
Speaker 2: You know? Man, Just when they lure you in, right
• 40:56
Speaker 2: they become the talk of the town. They become the
• 40:58
Speaker 2: talk of what everyone is saying. This team can do it.
• 41:01
Speaker 2: This team is going to go to the Super Bowl. YadA, YadA, YadA.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: They let you down. And you know, the one thing
• 41:08
Speaker 2: about it is to win in the NFC long term,
• 41:11
Speaker 2: they're gonna have to be able to beat the bullies.
• 41:13
Speaker 2: And right now, when people make it a line of
• 41:15
Speaker 2: scrimmage game, a game where it's about toughness and physicality,
• 41:19
Speaker 2: the Cowboys have not being able to weather the storm.
• 41:22
Speaker 2: Until they're able to beat people up in these tightly
• 41:27
Speaker 2: contested physical affairs, they won't be able to represent the
• 41:31
Speaker 2: AFC because you're gonna have to deal with Detroit, San Francisco. Look,
• 41:34
Speaker 2: Philadelphia is taking a step back, but still you got
• 41:36
Speaker 2: to deal with Philly. If Philly decides that they want
• 41:38
Speaker 2: to be the physical ball club again, they can make
• 41:40
Speaker 2: life miserable for the Cowboys. The Cowboys have to figure
• 41:43
Speaker 2: that and there's no way to kind of like a
• 41:45
Speaker 2: wipe this one away. The Buffalo Bills had their way
• 41:48
Speaker 2: with him. And when people see that James cook land
• 41:51
Speaker 2: for one hundred and steven, what do you think.
• 41:53
Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan thinks when he watches that tape did Christian
• 41:57
Speaker 1: McCaffrey and offensive line?
• 41:59
Speaker 2: They're just going to line up and teams are gonna
• 42:01
Speaker 2: line up and they're gonna run it at them and
• 42:02
Speaker 2: they're gonna see, hey, man, can you answer the question
• 42:06
Speaker 2: that ain execution? It's gonna be effort and toughness.
• 42:09
Speaker 1: They ran one of those right at Michael Parsons and
• 42:11
Speaker 1: he just dipped right underneath the block and it was like, oh,
• 42:13
Speaker 1: that was easy, just captured the edge. Jabril Cox got
• 42:17
Speaker 1: wiped off the face of the earth on one of
• 42:19
Speaker 1: them by Spencer Brown and then talking to the left
• 42:22
Speaker 1: the left tackle. That play made its circulation on social
• 42:25
Speaker 1: media of him driving Son you remember who it was
• 42:27
Speaker 1: driving some dude into the end zone. And I'm sitting
• 42:29
Speaker 1: here going like the Buffalo Bills on the if the
• 42:32
Speaker 1: Niners are a ten, the Bills are a six, Like,
• 42:35
Speaker 1: this is a whole other level that you're gonna get
• 42:37
Speaker 1: moved around by that group.
• 42:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, a whole another level. And so you have to
• 42:41
Speaker 2: get ready. So for Dallas, Cowboy, they're gonna go back
• 42:43
Speaker 2: to the drawing board. For the Buffalo Bills, they have
• 42:46
Speaker 2: to continue to keep on building on what they displayed.
• 42:50
Speaker 2: But the discovery of the running game when you can
• 42:53
Speaker 2: win with Josh Allen throw them for fewer than one
• 42:55
Speaker 2: hundred yards. Oh man, you got all kinds of stuff
• 42:57
Speaker 2: that you can build.
• 42:58
Speaker 1: Did you see his analogy?
• 43:00
  Speaker 4: You see?
• 43:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 43:01
  Speaker 1: Classic, I got an A on a group project. I
• 43:04
Speaker 1: didn't even do anything.
• 43:06
Speaker 2: But look, give him credit for being able to self aware.
• 43:09
  Speaker 1: Man. He's that's why he's a freaking so likable man
• 43:13
Speaker 1: because he has high highs and he has some low lows.
• 43:16
Speaker 1: But he doesn't hog all the credit and he's quick
• 43:20
Speaker 1: to own all the blame. Like that's what you want
• 43:21
Speaker 1: from your quarterback? Man, all right, we can keep it
• 43:25
Speaker 1: scooting here. Bengals vikings Man. That was interesting one. Huh.
• 43:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was interesting because the Vikers were up seventeen three.
• 43:32
Speaker 2: They were dominating. The way Mike barn Floor is in
• 43:34
Speaker 2: the defense was really making life difficult for Jake Browning.
• 43:38
Speaker 2: But here's what I'm there and everyone to talk about
• 43:40
Speaker 2: Jake Browning and how well he's played. He has played
• 43:43
Speaker 2: will but I would also say the being of supporting
• 43:46
Speaker 2: cast makes it where backup quarterback can fry. Like when
• 43:49
Speaker 2: you have superior talent on the outside, it just makes
• 43:51
Speaker 2: the job a lot easier for the quarterback to have success.
• 43:55
Speaker 2: Jack Taylor, it took him a couple of weeks to
• 43:56
Speaker 2: figure out how to play with Jake brown But what Browning,
• 43:59
Speaker 2: But what they've done is screen game, vertical game, being
• 44:04
Speaker 2: able to just put the players in isolated situation and
• 44:06
Speaker 2: encourage Brownie to make those throws. T Higgins just took
• 44:09
Speaker 2: it over because that was a no, no, no, no,
• 44:12
Speaker 2: no touchdown to go up. Damn it. Brownie has the edge,
• 44:18
Speaker 2: he's been smart with the ball, but their players and
• 44:21
Speaker 2: the talent that they've kind of put on that offensive
• 44:24
Speaker 2: lineup allows him to play well and allows this offense
• 44:28
Speaker 2: to even drive without Joe Burrow.
• 44:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt in the vikings from where they were
• 44:35
Speaker 1: with kind of the feel good story with Josh Dobbs
• 44:37
Speaker 1: not that long ago, Nick Mullens. In this game, look
• 44:40
Speaker 1: if you were three hundred yards and a couple of
• 44:41
Speaker 1: touchdowns but did have the two picks, but they were
• 44:44
Speaker 1: we were talking about, man, they might have found a
• 44:46
Speaker 1: cheap quarterback of the future with Dobbs. Maybe he's going
• 44:48
Speaker 1: to cost half as much as what Cousins is going
• 44:51
Speaker 1: to get now. I think kind of watching this team
• 44:53
Speaker 1: play out and knowing how your team's built. Jordan Addison
• 44:56
Speaker 1: had a great game in this game with two touchdowns.
• 44:58
Speaker 1: Obviously with Jefferson, to me, Kirk is he not going anywhere?
• 45:02
Speaker 1: Like they've got to figure out a way to make
• 45:03
  Speaker 1: that work.
• 45:04
  Speaker 4: Well.
• 45:05
Speaker 2: I think after playing with other quarterbacks, Kevin O'Connor probably
• 45:09
Speaker 2: has a higher value evaluation of Kirk Cousins over some
• 45:12
Speaker 2: of the other guys because without Kirk Cousins, he's limited
• 45:15
Speaker 2: in terms of how much he can how much of
• 45:17
Speaker 2: the playbook he can use. Kirk gave him that ability
• 45:20
Speaker 2: to do it. And when you look at this team
• 45:22
Speaker 2: and you look at the strides that they've made with
• 45:24
Speaker 2: the defense and those things like they appear to be ready.
• 45:27
Speaker 2: The big thing will be going forward. How do they
• 45:31
Speaker 2: continue it if Brian Floyd isn't there. The defense has
• 45:36
Speaker 2: been really put together. They played well. I don't know
• 45:39
Speaker 2: how why they fell apart at the end and looking
• 45:41
Speaker 2: at it, I mean, just some unfortunate plays and Brown
• 45:44
Speaker 2: and got hot with t Higgins making plays. But the
• 45:46
Speaker 2: defense to play well. If you lose that piece, can
• 45:50
Speaker 2: they continue to be a top defense? While Kevin O'Connor
• 45:53
Speaker 2: is really working with this offense to get it continued
• 45:55
Speaker 2: to play at a high level. But I do like
• 45:56
Speaker 2: the combination of Jeordan Addison and Justin Jefferson for the
• 45:59
Speaker 2: facia over the future. Two route runners that can get
• 46:03
Speaker 2: open against any coverage. Those pieces look great. You just
• 46:06
Speaker 2: got to figure out how you continue it with the
• 46:07
Speaker 2: quarterback and then what you're gonna do with the defense
• 46:09
  Speaker 2: if Floyd's isn't available.
• 46:11
Speaker 1: No doubt. All right, bucks, Hey they beat the Packers
• 46:14
Speaker 1: thirty four to twenty. This is a Baker Mayfield game.
• 46:16
Speaker 1: Three hundred and eighty one yards, four touchdowns. Went back
• 46:19
Speaker 1: and watched his tape buck getting guys out in the route.
• 46:22
Speaker 1: A lot of empty just getting five out as well
• 46:25
Speaker 1: out of the backfield, letting him process quickly get the
• 46:28
Speaker 1: ball out. He made some you talk about We talked
• 46:30
Speaker 1: to Flacco a little earlier making some kind of confident throws,
• 46:34
Speaker 1: some borderline cocky throws. Baker played that way. He fits
• 46:39
Speaker 1: some balls in tight windows, some steam balls that were impressive,
• 46:42
Speaker 1: like triangle defenders, full confidence, let it rip, get it
• 46:46
Speaker 1: in there. We talked about the Bengals in their receiving
• 46:48
Speaker 1: cord that they have. Even though it's getting a little
• 46:50
Speaker 1: bit older there in Tampa, Mike Evans can still get open.
• 46:53
Speaker 1: He's a huge target. They did a nice job working him.
• 46:57
Speaker 1: Chris Godwin had ten for a buck fifty five in
• 46:59
Speaker 1: this game, so they did a nice shot for show.
• 47:02
Speaker 1: White can run it. He can catch it out of
• 47:03
Speaker 1: the backfield as well. So they've got some nice pieces
• 47:06
Speaker 1: around him. How about our friend Jason, Like Baker, Mayfield
• 47:10
Speaker 1: is twenty eight years old. You know what his cap
• 47:12
Speaker 1: hit is this year and considering what he's playing, one
• 47:15
Speaker 1: point seven million. That's his cap hit this year on
• 47:18
Speaker 1: a one year day. I think it was like a
• 47:19
Speaker 1: one year like four million dollar deal. Basically, I mean,
• 47:21
Speaker 1: what what a bargain basement find there for a guy who, look,
• 47:27
Speaker 1: we didn't know one overall pick like you knew you
• 47:29
Speaker 1: had you have talent. I mean we say, well, okay,
• 47:31
Speaker 1: maybe you should have been the tenth pick or the
• 47:33
Speaker 1: twentieth pick. It was a first overall pick. You get him.
• 47:36
Speaker 1: He's playing for you in his prime as a twenty
• 47:38
Speaker 1: eight year old with experience in this league at one
• 47:40
Speaker 1: point seven million on the cap.
• 47:43
Speaker 2: And that's why you always kick the tires on guys
• 47:45
Speaker 2: who were drafted hot, because it's change of scenery, a
• 47:47
Speaker 2: new environment, right coaching staff, right scheme, can unlock if
• 47:50
Speaker 2: the trick will be next year, what does he go?
• 47:53
Speaker 2: He can't go from one point, he can't go to
• 47:56
  Speaker 2: fifty Jason.
• 47:57
Speaker 1: Jason tweeted out the image of going of this. I
• 48:01
Speaker 1: think he's telling himself he's gonna have to pay the guy.
• 48:03
  Speaker 2: I don't know he's gonna have a pan, but I'll
• 48:06
Speaker 2: say this, DJ and I do wonder sometimes like we're
• 48:10
Speaker 2: pro coaches and players, like the coaches watched college tape
• 48:13
Speaker 2: because when Baker Mayfield was at the Best of Oklahoma,
• 48:15
Speaker 2: it was very similar to the way that he played
• 48:18
Speaker 2: against the DBA Packers, get everybody out, get the ball
• 48:21
Speaker 2: out quickly, let him have it, let him deal, let
• 48:22
Speaker 2: them control. We talked about Joe Burrow, and now the
• 48:25
Speaker 2: Bengals have been at their best when they run a
• 48:27
Speaker 2: variation of l s U's offense where he put it
• 48:29
Speaker 2: on me to see it now, deal or whatever. Baker
• 48:32
Speaker 2: Mayfield is very similar because he had all of that
• 48:34
Speaker 2: control in Lincoln Raley's offense at Oklahoma. Uh, the Buccaneers,
• 48:39
Speaker 2: if they can find some consistency offensively to go with
• 48:41
Speaker 2: what is still a pretty good defense, they can win
• 48:45
Speaker 2: in the vision. They'd be interesting to see how this
• 48:46
Speaker 2: plays out with them and the New Orleans Saints and
• 48:48
Speaker 2: the mantu of factors kind of took a step back
• 48:50
Speaker 2: battling out down the end to figure out who's gonna
• 48:53
Speaker 2: be the winner of their division.
• 48:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, not a not a great day for the Packers.
• 48:57
Speaker 1: They lose, but let's get the positive here. The rookies
• 49:01
Speaker 1: Dontavin Wicks six for ninety seven, Tucker Craft four to
• 49:04
Speaker 1: fifty seven and a touchdown Jayden Reid six for fifty
• 49:06
Speaker 1: two in a touchdown. It might not end This season
• 49:09
Speaker 1: might not end up going the way the Packers were
• 49:11
Speaker 1: hoping it was going to go. But it's still a
• 49:13
Speaker 1: success in my mind because the quarterback's been solid, and
• 49:17
Speaker 1: they have all of these first and second year players
• 49:20
Speaker 1: who are doing good things and look like real key
• 49:22
Speaker 1: heat pieces of this team moving forward. So a loss
• 49:25
Speaker 1: for the Packers, but I'm not going to be discouraged,
• 49:27
Speaker 1: and you shouldn't be either if you're a Packer fan.
• 49:29
Speaker 1: We've got one more to get to here, Buck Colts
• 49:32
Speaker 1: Steelers in a beatdown. Colts win thirty to thirteen.
• 49:36
Speaker 2: You know what's crazy about this is the Packers were
• 49:39
Speaker 2: I mean the Pittsburgh Steelers were up. They were dominating
• 49:42
Speaker 2: the game early in the game. And here's what I say.
• 49:44
Speaker 2: It's funny because you mentioned Chris Godwin having ten for
• 49:48
Speaker 2: a buck fifty. I think his wife had come out
• 49:50
Speaker 2: and talked about Todd bulls with disrespect and relied about
• 49:54
Speaker 2: touches and those things. And you know, the squeaky will
• 49:56
Speaker 2: gets degree, but next week he gets a ton of
• 50:00
Speaker 2: catches and a ton of opportunities and catches in Well,
• 50:03
Speaker 2: there's been some conversation in Pittsburgh about George Pickens and
• 50:07
Speaker 2: Johnson all those guys. Opportunities, I need the ball or whatever,
• 50:10
Speaker 2: The game actually turned on Mitchell Trubisky trying to force
• 50:13
Speaker 2: a pass to George Pickens, trying to give him a
• 50:15
Speaker 2: chance to make a play a fifty to fifty ball.
• 50:18
Speaker 2: He doesn't come down with it, it's intercepted. And from
• 50:21
Speaker 2: that point on, the Indianapolis Coat absolutely donkey kick Pittsburgh
• 50:26
Speaker 2: stud Yeah, I mean they ran the football at will.
• 50:29
Speaker 2: They ran the football with Trey Sermon and some other
• 50:32
Speaker 2: guys like just kind of mixing in and Shane Stikeen.
• 50:36
Speaker 2: They lose Michael Pittman, and what we talked about DJ,
• 50:39
Speaker 2: and we've talked about how the Indianapolis Colts are like
• 50:41
Speaker 2: the Great Experiment, how they took these collection of freak
• 50:44
Speaker 2: athletes and drafted them without necessarily great tape or significant
• 50:50
Speaker 2: but just great athletes that they were going to put
• 50:52
Speaker 2: on the coaches to develop them. DJ the coach has
• 50:55
Speaker 2: done a really good job developing all these young un
• 50:58
Speaker 2: heralded players. I mean, they had DJ Montgomery come in
• 51:01
Speaker 2: and make plays, score a touchdown. He was on practice squad,
• 51:04
Speaker 2: he had been elevated, got an opportunity, and Shane stike
• 51:07
Speaker 2: and has kind of unlocked whatever that recipe is to
• 51:11
Speaker 2: developing young players they're developing those guys and they're putting
• 51:14
Speaker 2: them on the field. And when we talk about front
• 51:17
Speaker 2: office and coaching staff working together, when you go about, hey,
• 51:21
Speaker 2: this is how we're going to do it, they're doing
• 51:23
Speaker 2: it and it's worked out. And give them credit. Garner Minshew,
• 51:26
Speaker 2: who I watched here in Jacksonville kind of up and down.
• 51:29
Speaker 2: Stiken has done a good job of managing him. He
• 51:32
Speaker 2: still is prone to make some turnovers and those things,
• 51:35
Speaker 2: but he's done a good job putting the quarterback in
• 51:37
Speaker 2: a situation to be successful.
• 51:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, and have an experience with him in the past
• 51:41
Speaker 1: in Philly, I think helps because you have a knowledge
• 51:43
Speaker 1: of what he can and can't do, and you can
• 51:44
Speaker 1: put him in a position to be successful. You're not
• 51:46
Speaker 1: trying to feel that out through the year. Oh man,
• 51:48
Speaker 1: Oh we don't do that. You know, do this. They
• 51:51
Speaker 1: kind of knew what his strengths and weaknesses were, not
• 51:53
Speaker 1: helped when he was stressed into action. All right, Buck,
• 51:56
Speaker 1: we've jammed through these games, the ones we didn't have
• 51:59
Speaker 1: a chance to get who the Jets got just smashed
• 52:02
Speaker 1: by the Dolphins thirty to nothing. Dominant performance the Miami
• 52:07
  Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there's a lot a lot.
• 52:08
Speaker 2: Of stuff going on with that. Yeah, a lot of
• 52:10
Speaker 2: finger point that good.
• 52:12
Speaker 1: Chiefs get back, they get right against the Patriots twenty
• 52:15
Speaker 1: seven seventeen Giants and Saints Giants kind of lifeless and
• 52:19
Speaker 1: that one good win for the Saints twenty four to six. Hey,
• 52:21
Speaker 1: how about the Panthers getting to win over the Atlanta Falcons.
• 52:24
Speaker 1: Is there a team that's done less with more offensively
• 52:27
Speaker 1: than the Atlanta Falcons?
• 52:28
Speaker 2: By the way, I know, it's a frustration for everyone.
• 52:33
Speaker 2: People are trying to understand why John new Smith gets
• 52:35
Speaker 2: the ball of the polite of cow pits and those things.
• 52:38
Speaker 2: You just I don't know, man, you just don't know.
• 52:40
Speaker 2: It's just one of those things that it kind of
• 52:43
Speaker 2: plays out the way that it plays out.
• 52:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, Rams, they keep rolling. I mean to tell you
• 52:47
Speaker 1: what we talked about coaches of the year, Nobody mentioned
• 52:50
Speaker 1: Sean McVay. They get into the tournament with what the
• 52:52
Speaker 1: expectations were, he should be in the mix for that.
• 52:55
Speaker 1: He is really, I mean, not as shocked anybody. He
• 52:57
Speaker 1: is one of the elite, elite coaches in this league.
• 53:00
Speaker 1: Abbout Cardinals put up a fight score twenty nine points,
• 53:03
Speaker 1: but the Niners too much and they're gonna have a
• 53:05
Speaker 1: They might be like the Heisman where you have you know,
• 53:07
Speaker 1: you kind of split the vote. They might end up
• 53:10
Speaker 1: costing Perdy and McCaffrey the MVP because they're getting up
• 53:14
