- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We're Coming at You Hot and Spice Here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Episode thirty five of NHL Unscripted, Great Guts, say Pat Parun,
- 0:25Speaker 1: who's got the most likable guys in all of hockey.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Recently retired, now member of NHL Network. He's got some
- 0:31Speaker 1: unbelievable stories. A savage take done of his colleague and
- 0:34Speaker 1: former coach Bruce Boudreau. All that More is coming out,
- 0:37Speaker 1: plus Little Sonopol and sixty of the New Miles Teller,
- 0:39Speaker 1: Amya Taylor Joy Movie, The Gorge and Apple, plus Spencer
- 0:42Speaker 1: Carberry Wins, the Jack Adams and Talking Little Patriots, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Hockey Talk when it comes to Boston Brewers. But first,
- 0:49Speaker 1: before we get to what was an epic game too,
- 0:50Speaker 1: JD's got travel stories for me.
- 0:52Speaker 3: What do you got, buddy? I mean, what don't I have?
- 0:56Speaker 3: This was just an epic. It took me all of
- 0:58Speaker 3: twenty four hours to get from Edmonton to Florida alongside
- 1:03Speaker 3: eh Rad which poor guy, he was supposed to leave
- 1:06Speaker 3: at So he was supposed to leave after. There's a
- 1:08Speaker 3: couple of people that had a flight after Game two
- 1:10Speaker 3: at like one am. Leaving Edmonton to get all the
- 1:14Speaker 3: way to Toronto and then they'd take a morning flight.
- 1:17Speaker 3: So it was, you know, they were trying to thread
- 1:19Speaker 3: the needle. And then it goes to overtime one and
- 1:21Speaker 3: then overtime two, and then now people are changing flights
- 1:24Speaker 3: because like we can't do it.
- 1:25Speaker 4: The game ended at like eleven.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It was traffic's crazy to get into the Edminty mid
- 1:28Speaker 3: So EJ is one of those guys that changed his
- 1:31Speaker 3: flight to twelve o'clock with b the next day. So
- 1:33Speaker 3: I was like, I'm going to get up kind of
- 1:35Speaker 3: have myself a morning you know, workout. I know, it's
- 1:38Speaker 3: a shit show of a travel day. Like I'm like,
- 1:40Speaker 3: I don't I know it's going to be long. Let
- 1:43Speaker 3: me just make sure I'm comfortable, so, you know, get
- 1:45Speaker 3: to the airports twelve o'clock. We'll get there as soon
- 1:48Speaker 3: as we get there. Flights late an hour and a half.
- 1:52Speaker 3: We're like, okay, now we're waiting an hour and a half.
- 1:53Speaker 3: And as we're there, you know, EJ's with me. I
- 1:55Speaker 3: find him and he's kind of like he's like yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 3: he's like you know, there's just like a little bit
- 1:59Speaker 3: of miscommunication with like the uber leaving the game last night,
- 2:03Speaker 3: so I had to change my flight. But he's like,
- 2:05Speaker 3: everybody's kind of doing you know, they're they're trying their hardest,
- 2:08Speaker 3: and they're you know, they're they're you know, they're just working.
- 2:11Speaker 3: They're working, and it is what it is. And you know,
- 2:13Speaker 3: then the flight gets late another thirty minutes, and then
- 2:15Speaker 3: he's like, you know, I just wish the communication was
- 2:18Speaker 3: just a little bit better and and and you know,
- 2:20Speaker 3: like I feel like I just wasn't clear. And then
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know, then I started seeing our bags getting pulled
- 2:26Speaker 3: off the plane and I'm like, oh no, like they're
- 2:28Speaker 3: pulling our bags off the plane. I'm so I go
- 2:30Speaker 3: up to the front. They're like, yeah, this there's maintenance issues.
- 2:33Speaker 3: So we're gonna have to change planes. He's now like seething, fuming.
- 2:38Speaker 3: He's like, are you you know, are you kidding me?
- 2:41Speaker 3: He's like, because we're in the airport now four or
- 2:43Speaker 3: five hours, and he's like this is breaking me.
- 2:45Speaker 4: He's like, I'm gonna quit. I'm going home.
- 2:47Speaker 3: And he's like and I'm like each and I'm like each,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like I gotta like I'm trying to help, Like, let's
- 2:52Speaker 3: find a solution here. We're trying to contact the NHL
- 2:54Speaker 3: because you know, the flights are booked through the NHL
- 2:57Speaker 3: and and you know it's it's you're going through middleman.
- 2:59Speaker 3: It's a process instead of just booking it yourself because
- 3:02Speaker 3: you know they they'll reimburse you. But we're like, hey,
- 3:04Speaker 3: let's you know, we got to notify them. So we're
- 3:06Speaker 3: on the phone and like I'm on the phone with
- 3:08Speaker 3: the NHL and he's in my ear being like the
- 3:10Speaker 3: driving and the fucking this and that, and I'm like,
- 3:13Speaker 3: he J, come on, man, you gotta calm down.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm trying to figure this out.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And he's like, I don't even want to go to
- 3:19Speaker 3: the Florida And I'm like, it's.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Gonna work out. It's gonna work out.
- 3:22Speaker 3: To the point where I was like, I've canceled myself
- 3:25Speaker 3: off that air Canna flight. I booked a porter flight
- 3:29Speaker 3: through the NHL. Was like, EJ, I love you, but
- 3:31Speaker 3: I'm like we can't both be spiral like, so I'm
- 3:34Speaker 3: like I'm taking a different airline.
- 3:35Speaker 4: So we ended up taking different airlines to.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Toronto, and I showed up in Toronto last night at
- 3:42Speaker 3: I got into Toronto midnight last night and then flew
- 3:44Speaker 3: out at seven in the morning from Pearson. So I
- 3:47Speaker 3: was up at four nice, you know, three and a
- 3:49Speaker 3: half hours of sleep.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It was empty.
- 3:53Speaker 3: It was empty at Pearson though, so you know, overall,
- 3:55Speaker 3: it was a very pleasant experience in Pearson, which you
- 3:58Speaker 3: don't hear that often. So I'll take that small win.
- 4:02Speaker 3: But then, you know, because I get a push on
- 4:04Speaker 3: that other flight. I'm on this flight, you know, Air
- 4:07Speaker 3: Canada Rouge, which Air Canada is the worst goddamn airport around.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Uh you hate Air Canda stinks. Air Cannon Rouge. The
- 4:16Speaker 3: only seat left was thirty row thirty in the back,
- 4:19Speaker 3: and I'm in thirty. See my knees are going through
- 4:21Speaker 3: the through the seat. I got knees in my back.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And then of the four rows in the back, my
- 4:28Speaker 3: lady in front of me is the only person that
- 4:29Speaker 3: reclined her seat. So now I got somebody's hair panteen
- 4:33Speaker 3: right in my face, and I'm just like, keep it together, Jay,
- 4:36Speaker 3: God's test and you're getting tested. Don't freak out it.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I'm fucking freaking out right now, God dammit it. Gosh ah.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And then I eat EJ transferred to me anyway continue
- 4:48Speaker 3: that that was my rant.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Actually I have several questions.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Okay, so I give you by the way, first gave
- 4:53Speaker 1: me that advice on the one am, because when I
- 4:54Speaker 1: was in Edmonton, I was like, man, this sucks it
- 4:56Speaker 1: out here.
- 4:57Speaker 2: He was what he told me.
- 4:57Speaker 1: He goes, hey, there's always a one am Air Canadacharal,
- 5:00Speaker 1: that's what you gotta take.
- 5:01Speaker 2: My grade.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I tried to take it our last flood of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: year that we had like a year end parties. So
- 5:05Speaker 1: eg definitely knows that to get out of Edmonton. He
- 5:07Speaker 1: just got foible to double overtime. His logic was correct.
- 5:10Speaker 1: On the Saturday, you should have left at noon. Instead
- 5:13Speaker 1: you end up getting to Toronto at midnights. That was a
- 5:15Speaker 1: twelve hour travel that you had.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Yeah, we ended up leaving it. Well.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I changed flights because I was like, I'm going to Porter.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I'm not taking Air Canada. So I was supposed to
- 5:24Speaker 3: leave at four thirty and EJ's flight was at six
- 5:26Speaker 3: thirty because they pushed it at sixer And now I'm like,
- 5:29Speaker 3: I just want to get to Toronto early, go to sleep,
- 5:31Speaker 3: you know, just forget about this day. And then of course,
- 5:34Speaker 3: as I buy the ticket. They're like, yeah, the flight's
- 5:36Speaker 3: late an hour and I'm like, son of a.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Bitch, Son of a bitch.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So it's an entire day just to get ed into Toronto.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And then the Sunday morning, thankfully you got in today
- 5:45Speaker 1: wasn't horrible. You're down in Air Canada though, Andy Patrolla
- 5:48Speaker 1: loves Air Canada.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Always Canada the worst airline.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But what's your issue with I've never had an issue
- 5:52Speaker 1: with delays. It's smooth, but people are very friendly. You're
- 5:54Speaker 1: shitting on it.
- 5:55Speaker 4: It's the worst off.
- 5:55Speaker 3: My mother works for them and she's the greatest Air
- 5:57Speaker 3: Canada employee. She just retired. Yeah this thing, they better
- 6:01Speaker 3: give her her life and waiting.
- 6:04Speaker 2: The din issue there Listen, it's a little expensive.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I agree with JD on that, but as far as
- 6:08Speaker 1: flying the company paying for never had an issue there
- 6:10Speaker 1: in Canada great.
- 6:12Speaker 5: I don't fly him often, but when I do, I
- 6:15Speaker 5: found it's kind of a chintzy airline.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You don't get yes yes Back.
- 6:19Speaker 6: Of the Jalan Jason Talent Jason Are Aligned, Jay Town
- 6:25Speaker 6: j Tow album released.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Benchewsky It's tell your mom she knows It's the only
- 6:32Speaker 1: fight always in a meal United, you can fly two hours.
- 6:34Speaker 2: There's no meal air. Kenda always gives you something.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Heyt Porter had an amused boosh. They had, they had
- 6:40Speaker 3: everything and it was like there was no first class
- 6:42Speaker 3: and they had you had. You had a choice of
- 6:44Speaker 3: three different meals. You orzo salad and its beautiful.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's lovely. Porter underrated. I'll give you that Porter underrated.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Porter only to go to like I only use it
- 6:55Speaker 3: when I'm flying in Canada.
- 6:57Speaker 4: I like it in Canada.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you wouldn't trust it internationally.
- 7:00Speaker 1: All right, Thank god JD is there. Hopefully we'll be
- 7:02Speaker 1: hitting the beach at some point. Apologicis is great. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: want to know when did EJ make it? It is he
- 7:08Speaker 1: in Florida yet he refused to.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Take the direct because there wasn't a first class option,
- 7:16Speaker 3: so he took a connector for his class and he's done.
- 7:21Speaker 3: This guy's done twenty nine finals. So like, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 3: I allow him, you know, I rag on him here,
- 7:26Speaker 3: but like I allow him to have that that snap show.
- 7:29Speaker 3: He's been doing this, you know, twenty nine times.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And he's like you know what, you know, he talks.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I'm old.
- 7:34Speaker 3: He's like, ah, I want the comfort, you know, that's
- 7:37Speaker 3: the Yeah. So I was like, but I was just like, EJ,
- 7:42Speaker 3: I gotta get away from you. And then he's like
- 7:44Speaker 3: texting me. He's like, oh I got first class and
- 7:47Speaker 3: I'm like, EJ, I swear to God right now, I'd
- 7:49Speaker 3: love you, but I'm gonna snap on you.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I love it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: We gotta get age of the podcast, hoping the way
- 7:55Speaker 1: back to Edmonson obile but smoother. All right, the game itself.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Game moment was up and we talked without that game
- 8:00Speaker 1: too is amazing.
- 8:01Speaker 7: We'll do it.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Piece by p JD.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Five goals in the first parody David to Leon one
- 8:05Speaker 1: of those gorgeous goals in finals history.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Jacob, Yeah, that was wow.
- 8:23Speaker 4: That was NonStop.
- 8:23Speaker 3: I mean, this this Finals has been incredible and back
- 8:27Speaker 3: and forth two games go overtime.
- 8:29Speaker 4: I mean what Connor did there?
- 8:32Speaker 3: Was you know, you hear poetry in motion, you hear
- 8:35Speaker 3: you know the fact that he's able to do all
- 8:38Speaker 3: of that stick handling, passing at high speed, analyzing the
- 8:41Speaker 3: play as he's turning the corner. I mean, it's something
- 8:44Speaker 3: out of a movie and he's a glitch. And I
- 8:45Speaker 3: go back to it always like, how can you look
- 8:48Speaker 3: at that as an objective hockey fan and not say
- 8:50Speaker 3: like this is something that we're witnessing, you know, the
- 8:53Speaker 3: greatest of all time, and not anything against Wayne Gretzky
- 8:57Speaker 3: and what he's done, but like this is just a
- 8:59Speaker 3: different level of athlete hockey player. You know, you could
- 9:05Speaker 3: put him in any era, he'd have five hundred points,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you know, back in the day in Gretzki's air, and
- 9:09Speaker 3: this guy just it's crazy, Like that cut on a dime.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I mean, what's crazy is he did something after that
- 9:17Speaker 3: goal post five on three that was even more impressive
- 9:21Speaker 3: where he took the puck that was getting rimmed down
- 9:23Speaker 3: the wall and he did a reverse hit on Seth
- 9:25Speaker 3: Jones full speed while corraling the puck and then getting
- 9:29Speaker 3: to the net and almost hitting I think it was
- 9:32Speaker 3: I think it was nugent Hopkins for like a greade
- 9:34Speaker 3: a scoring chance. And just the fact that his edgework
- 9:37Speaker 3: is it's it's like it's like nothing I've ever seen
- 9:40Speaker 3: to be able to have that good of edgework top
- 9:42Speaker 3: speed while handling the puck.
- 9:44Speaker 4: You just can't.
- 9:45Speaker 3: You can't teach that. There's I don't know if there'll
- 9:48Speaker 3: ever be anybody that can do what he does, and
- 9:51Speaker 3: I mean it was. It was Firewagon hockey two on
- 9:54Speaker 3: onees three on two's breakaways everywhere, hitting scrums, guys are
- 9:58Speaker 3: shit talking each other. It's a It's a great series
- 10:02Speaker 3: so far, and I'm interested to see kind of how
- 10:05Speaker 3: it shakes out here because I think it's gonna come
- 10:08Speaker 3: down to Game five. I think they're gonna split here.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I see a split coming, and then I think Game
- 10:13Speaker 3: five is whoever wins that I think will end up
- 10:15Speaker 3: taking six because I can't see these teams keeping this
- 10:18Speaker 3: pace for the next for a seven game series.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It's too much. It's like, way too much.
- 10:24Speaker 1: It's one thing to see the stars showing up, it's
- 10:26Speaker 1: another thing with that. Guys like Sam Bennett, with all
- 10:28Speaker 1: the respect, I don't expect him to be the story
- 10:30Speaker 1: of this year's playoffs. And yet goalie interference penalty, ugly
- 10:33Speaker 1: playing which he falls in Stewart Skinner's leg and then
- 10:36Speaker 1: s it's a new NHL record twelve playoff road goal again,
- 10:39Speaker 1: speaking guys that weren't expecting that big series. Corey Perry
- 10:42Speaker 1: Panthers can't clear woven shot shame, but Rovsky breevous.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Time torn Perry this time the gameteen.
- 10:57Speaker 1: He tied the game with seventeen point eight seconds left
- 11:00Speaker 1: in regulation. That is the latest time goal and finals history,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and Perry was the forty year old.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Just screwing the Cup final.
- 11:07Speaker 1: How about these names, Chara Recki, Larry Onoff, and Raye Bork.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Talk to me about Sam Bennett.
- 11:12Speaker 1: We've been bullish on all playoffs and Corey Perry the
- 11:15Speaker 1: Rats still getting it done well.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I mean Sam Bennett, who I mean? I don't know
- 11:20Speaker 3: how he keeps getting away with this, just falling on
- 11:22Speaker 3: the goalie like he does it every series, never gets called.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It's crazy. He's he toes the line. I love his
- 11:29Speaker 3: interview after the game. He's like, that's exactly where I'm
- 11:31Speaker 3: gonna be. The rest of the series is in front
- 11:33Speaker 3: of the net, and you know this is the that's
- 11:35Speaker 3: this is the reason why a playoff team's going to
- 11:37Speaker 3: pay him eight to ten million if he doesn't stay
- 11:39Speaker 3: in Florida, which I can't see him not taking an
- 11:42Speaker 3: eight million dollar deal in Florida. Why would Florida want
- 11:45Speaker 3: to get rid of this guy? He's just a playoff
- 11:47Speaker 3: performer time and again, and seeing that, like Kachuck's visibly
- 11:50Speaker 3: injured and so is Sam Ryan Hart, like, this guy
- 11:54Speaker 3: is just another level of player.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Like it?
- 11:56Speaker 3: But what's so funny? And I'll get to Corey Perry after,
- 11:59Speaker 3: But what's so funny? And then is you look at
- 12:01Speaker 3: that first period. I wanted to touch on this was
- 12:04Speaker 3: they're so Florida could take a penalty every shift, and
- 12:08Speaker 3: they do take a penalty every shift, and I feel
- 12:10Speaker 3: like they get called early in the first period and
- 12:13Speaker 3: they just say, fuck it, We're gonna play the same
- 12:15Speaker 3: way all game, and the reps get like desensitized to
- 12:17Speaker 3: it and they stop calling penalties, and then all of
- 12:19Speaker 3: a sudden, it turns into a full on Hudson Bay
- 12:21Speaker 3: rules Donnie Brooke on the ice every shift is them clutching,
- 12:26Speaker 3: grabbing after the whistle. You look at the Sam Bennett
- 12:28Speaker 3: slash on Bouchard, that's textbook retaliation penalty. Bouchard hits them,
- 12:33Speaker 3: rep doesn't give Bouchard a penalty. The retaliation is automatically
- 12:37Speaker 3: a penalty. It's the rules in the NHL. The ref's
- 12:39Speaker 3: call it time and time again. I understand it's the playoffs,
- 12:42Speaker 3: but when you set the precedent the first two games,
- 12:44Speaker 3: the first periods five penalties and then like eleven penalties
- 12:48Speaker 3: and then they stop calling it because they take a
- 12:50Speaker 3: penalty every shift. Like I implored the fans to watch
- 12:54Speaker 3: the game, every shift they take a penalty. But the
- 12:56Speaker 3: reps are like, I can't call thirty penalties in a game.
- 12:59Speaker 3: They're like, I can't insert myself with this, So I
- 13:01Speaker 3: just kind of the whistles go away, and then they're
- 13:04Speaker 3: able to kind of play that you know, junkyard hockey.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, just one of the penalties.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Panthers are twenty three and ten in which they have
- 13:13Speaker 1: fewer pelliments in their opponents, so clearly as much of
- 13:15Speaker 1: a higher success rate when that's happening. And the Oilers
- 13:18Speaker 1: are twenty four to ten and five in which they
- 13:20Speaker 1: scored one or more power play goals. You would say
- 13:22Speaker 1: at the outset, special teams are going to be critical,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and so far it's proven to be true. Go ahead,
- 13:25Speaker 1: your thoughts on the Corey Perry.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Well, I mean, just how his adaptability. You know, it's
- 13:31Speaker 3: just the way to find and fit into any lineup
- 13:35Speaker 3: in any position and be impactful. And that's just the
- 13:39Speaker 3: hardest thing I think for older players to do is
- 13:41Speaker 3: understand where you need to be in the lineup and
- 13:44Speaker 3: you see a lot of guys not be able to
- 13:45Speaker 3: stay in the league long because you can't adapt. You know,
- 13:48Speaker 3: I was able to stay a couple extra years the
- 13:50Speaker 3: longer than maybe I should have or wanted to, because
- 13:53Speaker 3: I had to adapt and take on a role that I,
- 13:55Speaker 3: otherwise when I was younger, would want to do. But
- 13:57Speaker 3: that's what Corey Perry does in spades, and he just
- 14:00Speaker 3: goes where he needs to. He's he's a gamer, He's
- 14:02Speaker 3: he understands where to be at the net. And you know,
- 14:05Speaker 3: he was so close all game to scoring and we
- 14:08Speaker 3: were kind of having a conversation between him and Trent Frederick,
- 14:11Speaker 3: and you know they're seeing Treent fredericks a little bit
- 14:12Speaker 3: of an overthinker and he gets these chances and then
- 14:16Speaker 3: he can't score. And I'm like, but yeah, look at
- 14:17Speaker 3: Corey Perry, Like he gets these chances. It's like you
- 14:20Speaker 3: just couldn't put one away, but you just know he's
- 14:22Speaker 3: gonna stick with it and he's just gonna find a
- 14:24Speaker 3: way to get a greasy one. And that's just kind
- 14:27Speaker 3: of that resiliency that he has. That that's why he's
- 14:30Speaker 3: played so long and he's still so successful and so
- 14:33Speaker 3: hard to play against it's so hard to get a
- 14:35Speaker 3: stick in front of the net man. He's a wizard
- 14:36Speaker 3: down there with it.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Speaking of wizards, Brad Marshall again having a nose for
- 14:41Speaker 1: the Nets Whims game two through the Panthers in double
- 14:53Speaker 1: overtime rat with Nichols and second of the game, both
- 14:58Speaker 1: on the breakaway at a cheap shot, but in the
- 15:00Speaker 1: second overtime because of the first player. Is still like
- 15:02Speaker 1: a final history to score a short hit go in
- 15:05Speaker 1: regulation than an overtime winner. One more time for the
- 15:07Speaker 1: people in the back, first player in Stelly Cup final
- 15:09Speaker 1: of history to score short hand a goal in regulation
- 15:12Speaker 1: and then an overtime game. Brad marsh In leading all
- 15:15Speaker 1: players in playoff goals in playoff overtime goals since he
- 15:17Speaker 1: came into the league, and that winner Jaye. It wasn't
- 15:20Speaker 1: like it was the smoothest play ever, like it was,
- 15:21Speaker 1: but it was a heads up play.
- 15:23Speaker 2: The deep worked and the Bucks sworts and heck of
- 15:25Speaker 2: a play.
- 15:25Speaker 1: After Skinner had that one save in overtime, like, oh
- 15:27Speaker 1: my god, and then the puck I think it was
- 15:29Speaker 1: on the post and Clamberog cleared it. I mean, certainly
- 15:31Speaker 1: Florida had the opportunities, but for Martia to do it
- 15:33Speaker 1: again again, this guy just has, as I said it,
- 15:35Speaker 1: nose for the net.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Well can you did you see the Did you see
- 15:41Speaker 3: the side by side of when he was playing the
- 15:44Speaker 3: Panthers and they were up three to one with Boston,
- 15:45Speaker 3: he had that breakaway. I mean, Bruins fans gott to
- 15:49Speaker 3: just be. They lost this guy second round pickad Man,
- 15:53Speaker 3: you're telling me you're giving this guy away, second round pick.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I don't care if they extended Sweeney, I would fire
- 15:58Speaker 3: him watching this playoffs just off of that, because I.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Come on not Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I guess their thought was, we're not going anywhere the season.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Let's get something for nothing, so to speak. But you're right,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Marcian is not nothing. You could have got it at
- 16:08Speaker 1: a good rate for the next two three years.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Go ahead, he's gonna, I mean, he's gonna know. I mean,
- 16:12Speaker 3: he's gonna sign somewhere Toronto. Some are seven million. He's
- 16:15Speaker 3: gonna he's gonna get another deal. He looks great. You
- 16:18Speaker 3: can't you can't teach that that kind of warrior gamer mentality.
- 16:23Speaker 3: And I mean, yeah, Bruins fans.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Gotta just be.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Every goalie scorer is just hurt so deep. Oh like
- 16:31Speaker 3: tal like the first cuts the deepest, but this is
- 16:34Speaker 3: like death by a thousand cuts for Bruins fans watching
- 16:37Speaker 3: this playoff run here.
- 16:39Speaker 5: So I was just gonna clarify. Actually you mentioned the
- 16:41Speaker 5: second round pick. The Bruins are actually getting the first
- 16:44Speaker 5: round pick for Marshawn because the Panthers won two playoff series.
- 16:47Speaker 5: It was a conditional second Okay, still okay, wells still
- 16:50Speaker 5: still having said that. However, to see if I'm a
- 16:55Speaker 5: Bruins fan looking at what Brad Marshawn's doing right now,
- 16:58Speaker 5: it's gotta hurt. It's gotta hurt knowing that this guy,
- 17:01Speaker 5: who was I mean really the face of your team,
- 17:03Speaker 5: I guess him and maybe where the face of your
- 17:05Speaker 5: franchise brings so many intangibles, so many incredible moments through
- 17:09Speaker 5: the years, And to see him doing it in a
- 17:12Speaker 5: Panthers jersey, it still looks weird. It's still it still
- 17:15Speaker 5: doesn't look quite right seeing Brad marsha On in a
- 17:18Speaker 5: Panther's jersey. But good on Florida. Forget the guy for
- 17:22Speaker 5: a pick. Basically, who's doing so much for them right now, it's.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Certainly great to see Martian delivery right now for the Panthers.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Speaking of delivering again, our man JD boots the ground
- 17:30Speaker 1: as you heard, this travel story epic. But the good
- 17:32Speaker 1: news is he's hobnobbing with the very best alongside his
- 17:35Speaker 1: running me to Lexie landa store.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I got to talk to Commissioner Gary Bettman. That's right,
- 17:39Speaker 2: j D and the commission during Stanley Cup Live in Edmonton.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Before we get to some snippets of the snip snip,
- 17:45Speaker 1: what was it like talking to the boss?
- 17:47Speaker 3: I'll just give you before we get before we're all
- 17:50Speaker 3: the audio, I'll just tell you the setup of it.
- 17:52Speaker 3: So you know, we you know, we're out in Ford
- 17:54Speaker 3: Hall and there's a bunch of people there and they
- 17:57Speaker 3: kind of we start the show when they start letting
- 17:59Speaker 3: the fans in and you know, Matt Nicholson's doing the show.
- 18:01Speaker 3: He's do great job doing Stanley Cup Live and take
- 18:06Speaker 3: pod loves our pod. He wants me to plug it
- 18:09Speaker 3: incessantly on during Stanley Cup Live and I you know,
- 18:13Speaker 3: love it. I'm like, yeah, Shanon told scripted. So before
- 18:16Speaker 3: the show starts, you know, I was like, oh, we're
- 18:18Speaker 3: getting Gary and he's like, yeah, Gary's coming on it like,
- 18:20Speaker 3: you know, we start to show at four thirty Edmonton time,
- 18:23Speaker 3: and he's like, he's coming on four forty and I said,
- 18:25Speaker 3: just just be ready. Gary's early always and he goes, yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 3: he'll be four forty, Like he'll be I said, just
- 18:30Speaker 3: be ready. So we had like four other guests, like
- 18:34Speaker 3: like a jam pack show. We had Ryan McDonald sorry,
- 18:36Speaker 3: Sean McDonald from Shoresy. We had Chewba Hubbard from the Panthers.
- 18:42Speaker 3: We had Tony brarr and and and I can't remember
- 18:46Speaker 3: last name, but Page. They are the Edmonton Oilers audio network.
- 18:50Speaker 3: They do the you know studio stuff, and we also
- 18:54Speaker 3: had their their radio guy, Cam Moon and they're all
- 18:58Speaker 3: there early and then Gary shows up three minutes before
- 19:02Speaker 3: we go live and he just kind of moves everybody
- 19:05Speaker 3: out of the way and he's like, you know, like
- 19:07Speaker 3: where's my mic? And I'm like I'm like I told it.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I just absolutely big dogs everybody. And I was like
- 19:15Speaker 3: I loved it because he's just like, yeah, I'm here,
- 19:18Speaker 3: so we're you know, we made small chat with him.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He's not gonna wait for Cuba Hubbard or no, no,
- 19:24Speaker 1: He's like So they all waited and he gave us
- 19:26Speaker 1: like a really long you know, twenty minutes.
- 19:28Speaker 3: So you know I'd go to Stanley Cup live and
- 19:30Speaker 3: listen to it, but we got I know, tal you
- 19:32Speaker 3: got some really good audio from it. So here's take
- 19:34Speaker 3: a listening at GB Gary Bettman, I.
- 19:37Speaker 8: Mean, and I know you of course there's there. What
- 19:48Speaker 8: do you think it would mean to Canada to get.
- 19:52Speaker 7: Able to do this?
- 19:59Speaker 8: Teams perhaps Albert between Calgary and Edmonton. But I think
- 20:08Speaker 8: there's a little bit of a coming together of Canada, hey,
- 20:12Speaker 8: because it's been a while three decades since the Canadian
- 20:16Speaker 8: team has won the Cup. And secondly, I think a
- 20:19Speaker 8: little bit of the political overtones has galvanized people to
- 20:24Speaker 8: come together. I'm gonna get to it overhurts Deem of
- 20:27Speaker 8: like where hockey's going mex because it's growing so much.
- 20:29Speaker 8: Hockey's ever been hot. Are there any other international markets
- 20:32Speaker 8: you're targeting and do themselfs in Australia, but any other
- 20:35Speaker 8: place that kind of tickle your interest. But we want
- 20:38Speaker 8: to make sure that we're particularly vibrant in Europe, particularly
- 20:43Speaker 8: Northern Europe, where hockey is so important and so many
- 20:46Speaker 8: of those countries hockey is the number one sport like
- 20:49Speaker 8: it is in Canada, and we're also mindful of the
- 20:53Speaker 8: fact that roughly a third of our players come from
- 20:57Speaker 8: Northern Europe and there's some of the best players in
- 21:00Speaker 8: the world, I mean the best players in the world
- 21:02Speaker 8: playing the NHL, and so it's important that hockey maintained
- 21:07Speaker 8: an important status, that great athletes continue to gravitate to
- 21:11Speaker 8: it so they can come in and answer our game.
- 21:13Speaker 8: It's an exciting time. We have some fun ones for
- 21:15Speaker 8: you here on Stanley Cup Live. Do you have a
- 21:17Speaker 8: favorite emoji that you ever use. I used to smile
- 21:21Speaker 8: with a lot because I'm always happy.
- 21:23Speaker 2: You gotta be happy during these times in group text.
- 21:27Speaker 8: Are you a fan of group chats? I have to
- 21:29Speaker 8: do a lot on social media and group chats because
- 21:35Speaker 8: you know, I don't always want people and lots of
- 21:38Speaker 8: people to know what I'm thinking and what I'm doing
- 21:42Speaker 8: smart and I'm still a little old school in that
- 21:46Speaker 8: I'd rather have a direct conversation and look in somebody's eyes,
- 21:50Speaker 8: because no matter how much you use emojis, it's not
- 21:54Speaker 8: quite as good as conveying the essence of what communication.
- 22:00Speaker 7: You're trying to have.
- 22:01Speaker 8: And I know for younger people, gen Z's.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Na smiling emoji. JB always happy, always has hard hitting questions.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I love it. Yeah, always happy.
- 22:19Speaker 1: We got to get his number now just start text
- 22:21Speaker 1: him happy faces. What a great game, Gary, happy face.
- 22:24Speaker 1: The coaching carosel we go, in the words of Connor Garland,
- 22:27Speaker 1: just when we think we have all.
- 22:28Speaker 2: The answers, they changed the questions. This was Thursday. Former
- 22:31Speaker 2: player Marco Sturm the new head coach, replacing interim.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Head coach Joe Saco, who was promoted after Jim Montgomery
- 22:39Speaker 1: was can November nineteenth, forty six year old Marco Sturm
- 22:42Speaker 1: fourteen seasons in the NHL, five years in Boston. I
- 22:45Speaker 1: did not realize he'd spent the last three seasons as
- 22:47Speaker 1: head coach of the King's HL Philly in Ontario. Marco
- 22:51Speaker 1: Storm I love former players getting into it, especially when
- 22:53Speaker 1: they've got a little bit of pedigree. It's like he's
- 22:55Speaker 1: going right from the ice, so to speak, then to
- 22:57Speaker 1: behind the bench. He has been coaching a little bit,
- 22:58Speaker 1: but jad this surprised me a little bit.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Marco Sturm now the coach in Boston.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Well, Boston's really trying to win that Joe Thornton trade. Hey,
- 23:05Speaker 3: they're really trying to win that Joe Thornton trade, doing
- 23:10Speaker 3: anything they can. San Jose gets the director of Vibes
- 23:14Speaker 3: and Joe Thornton. Boston brings Marco. Servia says, you know what,
- 23:17Speaker 3: you're the head coach. No, Marco, He's everything I've heard.
- 23:21Speaker 3: He's loved by the players, you know, was a very
- 23:24Speaker 3: well respected player in the league and teammate. I think
- 23:27Speaker 3: it's it was the between him and j. Woodcraft. We
- 23:30Speaker 3: had Elliott Friedman on. I think he was telling us
- 23:32Speaker 3: that it is between him and j. Woodcraft. I think
- 23:33Speaker 3: they just really liked Marco Sturman. It was somebody they
- 23:36Speaker 3: had their eye on as somebody that understands the organization
- 23:39Speaker 3: and the culture there. And I think, you know, he
- 23:42Speaker 3: was under the tutelage of Todd mccollin a little bit.
- 23:46Speaker 3: He started in LA with John Stevens, and then he
- 23:48Speaker 3: had Todd mccalluney who was assistant for him. So kind
- 23:51Speaker 3: of learned that one three one and brought that to Ontario.
- 23:54Speaker 3: And so I think there's going to be some semblance
- 23:56Speaker 3: of that defensive structure in Boston. And I think he's
- 23:59Speaker 3: just going to get them back to their identity. So
- 24:01Speaker 3: it's a good pickup. I think, you know, you look
- 24:03Speaker 3: at all the other dealings that happened with the Debor firing,
- 24:07Speaker 3: and we'll probably get into that and all that, but
- 24:09Speaker 3: you know, it's I think it's a good pick up
- 24:12Speaker 3: by Boston, and it's somebody that can kind of relate
- 24:15Speaker 3: to these young guys coming up, and he's kind of
- 24:17Speaker 3: grown some young guys from from the LA organization. So
- 24:20Speaker 3: this is a this is kind of the logical choice
- 24:22Speaker 3: for me.
- 24:23Speaker 1: So all right, see if the Bruce can get back
- 24:25Speaker 1: to the playoffs. You mentioned Peter de Bor this was a
- 24:27Speaker 1: stunner on Friday. Was the head coach in Dallas for
- 24:29Speaker 1: three seasons. He gets the Stars the conference final all
- 24:32Speaker 1: three seasons, but loses in the conference final every single time.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Before Dallas, he got Vegas to the conference finals twice,
- 24:38Speaker 1: losing both times. He also coached San Jose and New
- 24:41Speaker 1: Jersey to the finals. I don't think it's just one move, Jad,
- 24:46Speaker 1: and yet that move is a spectacular backfired in retrospect.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The fact that he pulls Ottinger after because of two
- 24:52Speaker 1: goals and two shots after Jake says, hey, I was
- 24:55Speaker 1: publicly embarrassed and humiliated and divorce it. Well, I knew
- 24:57Speaker 1: he was gonna face criticism if it didn't work out,
- 25:00Speaker 1: which it did not. I think it's oversimplified and say,
- 25:03Speaker 1: one move costs Mana's job, but three straight years you
- 25:05Speaker 1: haven't been able to get with a hump.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I guess that serious agains Edmonton did indeed doom him.
- 25:10Speaker 2: How do you read it?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Well, he's kind of like Laviolette where it's like three
- 25:14Speaker 3: years and that's the limit. If you look at all
- 25:16Speaker 3: of his jobs, it's like three years is the cap.
- 25:18Speaker 3: And I guess the word we had it's great. We
- 25:21Speaker 3: I go into media and I never paid attention to
- 25:24Speaker 3: like coaches and coaches firings and all that. And now
- 25:27Speaker 3: the two years I'm doing media, it's like everybody's getting fired, left,
- 25:30Speaker 3: right and center. No one can keep a job for
- 25:31Speaker 3: more than a year. So I'm learning a lot about
- 25:34Speaker 3: the position more than I ever did when I was playing.
- 25:38Speaker 3: You know, Ellie came on and he started talking about
- 25:41Speaker 3: how the word from the room was that, you know,
- 25:45Speaker 3: as the series went on and the rounds went on
- 25:48Speaker 3: in the playoffs, Pete would kind of tighten up and
- 25:51Speaker 3: get a little bit more frantic and a little bit
- 25:53Speaker 3: nervy and they didn't like the way he handled some situations.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And I just think it that was kind of the
- 25:58Speaker 3: straw that broke the camel's back. I think it was
- 26:00Speaker 3: building for a little bit of time before that, and
- 26:03Speaker 3: I feel like, I don't want to say panics. So
- 26:05Speaker 3: I think Pete Boar is a great coach. You look
- 26:06Speaker 3: at Joe Thornton's one of his favorite coaches, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 3: I think Pete just kind of incertain moments and you know, listen,
- 26:14Speaker 3: sometimes some coaches don't know how to handle goalies. You know,
- 26:18Speaker 3: they don't they aren't good at goalies. Yeah, they don't know.
- 26:22Speaker 3: They don't understand the position they want it to be.
- 26:24Speaker 3: More like you know, Mike Upset it really good and
- 26:25Speaker 3: he was like they just kind of think like, hey,
- 26:28Speaker 3: stop the puck.
- 26:29Speaker 4: That's what you got to do. Stop the puck.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And if you can't stop the puck, we'll find somebody
- 26:32Speaker 3: that can because everything else is working but you. And
- 26:35Speaker 3: that's kind of I don't feel is the way to
- 26:36Speaker 3: handle it. And I think Jake Rodgers really liked by
- 26:39Speaker 3: his teammates, and I just think it didn't sit well
- 26:41Speaker 3: with the team and kind of like you're giving up
- 26:43Speaker 3: on him, you know, going down to nothing. But I
- 26:45Speaker 3: think it was a lot leading up to that behind
- 26:47Speaker 3: the scenes, and then the way he handled it after
- 26:49Speaker 3: the series. I mean, you look at the way Jim
- 26:51Speaker 3: Hiller handed his coaching decision in LA and he's still there.
- 26:55Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Pete Boy kind of did the same thing where he
- 26:57Speaker 3: didn't really take any of the blame and he kind
- 26:59Speaker 3: of just was like, it's on them, It's not me,
- 27:00Speaker 3: it's on them, kind of shots fired across the bow,
- 27:03Speaker 3: and I think ultimate it just came to a head,
- 27:07Speaker 3: and I feel like i'd keep an eye out on
- 27:09Speaker 3: Jay Woodcraft or the HL coach in Texas, Like I
- 27:13Speaker 3: don't know his name off the top of my head,
- 27:14Speaker 3: tell you have to find it. But apparently those are
- 27:16Speaker 3: the two names that are out there. Jim Neill, you know,
- 27:18Speaker 3: kind of had Jay Woodcraft when he's a video coach
- 27:21Speaker 3: in Detroit, and then apparently this Texas which they're in
- 27:26Speaker 3: the finals right now, I think, or they're in the
- 27:28Speaker 3: Semis in the in the Calder.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Cup playoffs and they're doing really well.
- 27:32Speaker 3: He's kind of grown a lot of these young guys
- 27:35Speaker 3: and had them in his system in the Ahl, So
- 27:38Speaker 3: I think he's the logical candidate as well to maybe
- 27:40Speaker 3: come up and take over, because they think if he doesn't,
- 27:44Speaker 3: he's gonna go somewhere else and take a head coaching.
- 27:47Speaker 2: The name you were thinking of six seasons with the
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yes the Stars.
- 27:49Speaker 3: So yeah, he's kind of I think it's gonna be
- 27:52Speaker 3: those two. It's gonna be those two, so to me,
- 27:54Speaker 3: interesting to see we might have another young coach in
- 27:56Speaker 3: the league again.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And maybe if la or Utah struggles early next season,
- 28:01Speaker 1: he's back to the league.
- 28:01Speaker 2: As just said, he's got a great pedigree, he's been
- 28:03Speaker 2: a great coach. But it's just to go Dallas.
- 28:04Speaker 1: We had to the last possible second every coaching vacancy filled.
- 28:07Speaker 9: Pete de bow is not gonna be coaching any times soon.
- 28:09Speaker 9: That was Yeah, it's a bit of a shot there
- 28:11Speaker 9: as well. Yeah, I feel like it's timing, right. Doesn't
- 28:13Speaker 9: that feel like weird timing if they knew the writing
- 28:15Speaker 9: was on the wall. But I don't see Jim Nill
- 28:17Speaker 9: as being that kind of guy.
- 28:19Speaker 4: You know.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I don't know then and what you think, but I
- 28:22Speaker 3: just think, yeah, it's an interesting one. But you could
- 28:26Speaker 3: see somebody probably firing somebody early in the season next year,
- 28:29Speaker 3: if Pete de bor is still out there and available.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah, as you say, certainly has a track record of success.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Speaking of track records, Pat Maroon had an unbelievable career,
- 28:38Speaker 1: three Stanley Cup wins and a great storyteller, all around
- 28:40Speaker 1: likable guy. He's coming up after this quick breaker NHL
- 28:43Speaker 1: and scripted. He's got great stories from his time, not
- 28:45Speaker 1: only with the Chicago Blackhawks, obviously, the Saint Louis Blues
- 28:48Speaker 1: and stories about Bruce Perjority.
- 28:49Speaker 2: You're gonna love all that more coming up next year
- 28:51Speaker 2: on unscripted.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Our next guest was a six round pick one hundred
- 29:06Speaker 1: and sixty first overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the
- 29:08Speaker 1: two thousand and seven NHL Draft.
- 29:10Speaker 2: The recently retired forward played eight hundred.
- 29:12Speaker 1: And forty eight games with the Ducks, Oilers, Devils, Blues, Lightning,
- 29:16Speaker 1: Wild Bruins and Blackhawks. He's the only player in the
- 29:19Speaker 1: last forty years to win the Stanley Cup in three
- 29:22Speaker 1: consecutive seasons.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, it is Pat Maroon. Pat, great to
- 29:26Speaker 2: see you man.
- 29:27Speaker 7: Thanks for having me, guys, I appreciate it.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I had a blast interviewing on Amazon Prime during the season.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Of course JD knows you're now part of the network
- 29:34Speaker 1: now the NHL Network, so cannot wait to have you
- 29:36Speaker 1: institut with us in Secacas. You wasted no time dove
- 29:39Speaker 1: right into broadcasting. What was it about it that you
- 29:41Speaker 1: want to see? No one I want to go out
- 29:43Speaker 1: there and share my expertise with the world.
- 29:45Speaker 10: Oh, I just wanted to try it out and see
- 29:47Speaker 10: if I liked it. I knew a lot of players
- 29:49Speaker 10: kind of dove right into it. Some players loved it,
- 29:52Speaker 10: some players did it, And you know, it seems like
- 29:56Speaker 10: there's a lot of there's a lot more X players
- 29:58Speaker 10: kind of diving into the hockey media world, I will say,
- 30:02Speaker 10: And it's something that intrigue me a lot. It's pretty hard, though.
- 30:07Speaker 10: You got to be on your toes and you got
- 30:09Speaker 10: to know your stuff. Pretty nerve racking. But I think
- 30:13Speaker 10: once you get through it and get through the first one,
- 30:15Speaker 10: it just becomes the natural thing that you're just talking
- 30:18Speaker 10: to guys in the locker room.
- 30:19Speaker 7: So I really liked it so far.
- 30:21Speaker 10: Really like working with the guys, and it's been fun
- 30:24Speaker 10: to really just break down the games and talk hockey.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I mean, how wild is it too, because you you know,
- 30:30Speaker 3: you recently retire and and no time, no lagging between
- 30:35Speaker 3: you getting another job. But then you're also you know,
- 30:38Speaker 3: you just recently brought home a new baby, and it's
- 30:39Speaker 3: like how wild has that transition been? Being like going
- 30:43Speaker 3: from playing just figuring out your routine on the road
- 30:46Speaker 3: and like playing your games like holy shit, like I got,
- 30:50Speaker 3: I got. This is a hall thrust. Here's life.
- 30:53Speaker 10: Yeah, for sure, it's obviously tough, but yeah, I mean
- 30:58Speaker 10: we just had the baby and then it's like boom, retired,
- 31:02Speaker 10: stay at home dad, just grinding.
- 31:04Speaker 11: No.
- 31:04Speaker 10: But for me, it's like I kind of enjoyed it.
- 31:10Speaker 10: But I've been I guess I've been doing some stuff,
- 31:12Speaker 10: you know, trying to get away a little bit, get
- 31:14Speaker 10: back into routine. But it's like I feel like it's
- 31:16Speaker 10: like you retire and then it's like summertime, so it's
- 31:19Speaker 10: like this is our off season, so you're kind of
- 31:21Speaker 10: used to that, you know, being home with the kids
- 31:24Speaker 10: every day. You go to your workout for whatever two
- 31:27Speaker 10: hours and you come home and like, you know, you're
- 31:30Speaker 10: back to the grind with the kids. So I think
- 31:32Speaker 10: what's the hardest part is probably gonna be navigating myself
- 31:35Speaker 10: through the regular seaton when the regular season is going on,
- 31:38Speaker 10: because it's like a new look for me being home.
- 31:41Speaker 7: And you know, traveling a little bit whatever I'm doing.
- 31:44Speaker 10: But I think summertime is normal, a little normalcy because
- 31:48Speaker 10: it's like our off season, you know, JD.
- 31:50Speaker 7: And then like yeah, some time it's probably gonna be
- 31:52Speaker 7: filled a lot. Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Novembers.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Yeah, November is a little weird because you're like your
- 31:58Speaker 3: first year, Like when I had it, I was like,
- 32:00Speaker 3: this is so weird. You're like texting guys, Hey, you
- 32:02Speaker 3: want to go to get dinner. You're like, oh, wait
- 32:03Speaker 3: a minute, self and like a Marriott and Socacas New Jersey.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Let's dive right into the Cup final here, Pat, you're
- 32:11Speaker 1: trade of the Oilers in twenty sixteen. You got to
- 32:13Speaker 1: be the rookie named Connor McDavid and a second year
- 32:16Speaker 1: player named Leon Dwisa.
- 32:17Speaker 2: What were your first impressions of those guys as.
- 32:19Speaker 10: Teammates, Their work ethic and the way they approach the game,
- 32:24Speaker 10: and you know how they do it, and you know,
- 32:28Speaker 10: Connor's Connor. You know we all see it. But I
- 32:31Speaker 10: think is you know, you can say to that natural
- 32:34Speaker 10: gift to those two. But I think they put in
- 32:35Speaker 10: the time and effort and the training and the off
- 32:40Speaker 10: ice stuff, the eating habits, the little things that make
- 32:43Speaker 10: you a better hockey player to sleep the rest, you know.
- 32:47Speaker 10: But I think all around they're just well rounded people too.
- 32:49Speaker 10: They're great teammates, great friends, and you know, great leaders
- 32:53Speaker 10: in that locker room. So that's just you know, with
- 32:57Speaker 10: all the stars, you can see like you know, they're
- 32:59Speaker 10: just all like great people and they all want to
- 33:01Speaker 10: achieve one goal as be good teammates and you know,
- 33:04Speaker 10: try to win as and try to win and that's
- 33:07Speaker 10: their goal right now.
- 33:08Speaker 7: But I've had an opportunity.
- 33:10Speaker 10: Great to play with those guys and I can't say
- 33:13Speaker 10: enough good things about them as teammates and people away
- 33:16Speaker 10: from the rink, and you know how they treat everyone
- 33:18Speaker 10: with respect, and you know, hockey's hockey, but I think
- 33:22Speaker 10: the person is more important than hockey.
- 33:25Speaker 3: What his first year, you know, you played with them
- 33:29Speaker 3: as first year and what was like one play where
- 33:32Speaker 3: you kind of were like, holy fuck, this guy's already
- 33:36Speaker 3: better than all of us.
- 33:39Speaker 7: I think it was against Columbus that one play he had.
- 33:44Speaker 10: He just came back might have been the first game
- 33:47Speaker 10: like he came down it was like a one on
- 33:49Speaker 10: four and he just like toe dragged.
- 33:52Speaker 7: And then like beat.
- 33:53Speaker 10: It was like he beat the one guy who came
- 33:56Speaker 10: down against the defender like toa dragged him split the
- 33:58Speaker 10: d and it was the second saying. I was like,
- 34:00Speaker 10: all right, this kid's a lead. I think it's all
- 34:03Speaker 10: over the highlight reel too. I think he can pull
- 34:05Speaker 10: it up if you can. But I mean, the goal
- 34:08Speaker 10: itself was unbelievable.
- 34:11Speaker 3: It's pretty cool to think about the bench now, you
- 34:13Speaker 3: know that's the I mean, I'm sure the bench is
- 34:15Speaker 3: just like, well, there goes our jobs and all of
- 34:18Speaker 3: our playing time.
- 34:18Speaker 4: But let's shift.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Heeres another teammate you had, who's a piece of trash
- 34:25Speaker 3: age forty Corey Perry doing Perry things. I mean, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 3: what can you say about this guy your former team
- 34:31Speaker 3: at Anaheim and Tampa and what he's done and you know,
- 34:36Speaker 3: winning a cup after you know, eighteen years later, but
- 34:40Speaker 3: being in the last five finals, and like, you know
- 34:42Speaker 3: what he does for teams and what he means and
- 34:44Speaker 3: how the hell who did he sell his soul to
- 34:48Speaker 3: to keep being this good at this age?
- 34:51Speaker 10: The warm man, the greasy warm slurting his way through
- 34:55Speaker 10: for nineteen plus years in the NHL.
- 34:58Speaker 7: I think it's pretty impressive.
- 34:59Speaker 10: I think the way we all know he's not the
- 35:02Speaker 10: fastest skater, but the way he navigates through the ice
- 35:06Speaker 10: and his hockey sense, his hockey IQ and his hands
- 35:10Speaker 10: are lead. I think he's probably one of the best
- 35:12Speaker 10: players below the top of the circles of what he does,
- 35:15Speaker 10: an elite, elite player, And that just goes to say
- 35:19Speaker 10: and like the things you can say he's slow, but
- 35:21Speaker 10: the things he can navigate himself through an author rush
- 35:24Speaker 10: is pretty still impressive. And I just think there's so
- 35:29Speaker 10: there's guys like that. You don't find a lot of
- 35:32Speaker 10: people that can play his role. And he's been doing
- 35:36Speaker 10: it since he's been a young age. And you know,
- 35:38Speaker 10: he steps up when you need him, when he needs
- 35:39Speaker 10: a fight, he'll step in there. He's greasy, he stirs
- 35:42Speaker 10: the pot, he's always in your face. You know, he's
- 35:45Speaker 10: a competitor. He just loves the game. But there we
- 35:49Speaker 10: don't find a lot of Corey Paier's anymore. And I
- 35:51Speaker 10: don't think we'll find he's only generational. I think, man,
- 35:54Speaker 10: we'll never find it. I don't think we'll never find
- 35:56Speaker 10: another Corey pair. We might, I don't know, but you know,
- 36:00Speaker 10: he just he he goes up and down the lineup.
- 36:02Speaker 10: You can play on your fore find your time up line.
- 36:05Speaker 10: He's just a utility player that you know, plays all
- 36:08Speaker 10: these roles and then he's really effective and the best
- 36:12Speaker 10: net front guy I seen besides Pavelski. I touched on
- 36:16Speaker 10: that JD. We touched on him the other day. But
- 36:19Speaker 10: I think he's one of the best players. I think
- 36:21Speaker 10: his poison his patience when he gets the puck in front,
- 36:24Speaker 10: like you know, some guys rushing like myself, you just
- 36:27Speaker 10: like getting he's tapping, it hits his chest, he gets
- 36:30Speaker 10: and makes a move and before you know it's in
- 36:32Speaker 10: the back of your net. So I think his patience
- 36:34Speaker 10: is poison front and the way he does everything. But
- 36:37Speaker 10: Edmonton's got a good one. His leadership in room, the
- 36:40Speaker 10: way he brings, the way you carry himself, so a
- 36:43Speaker 10: voice and other voice that can help these guys, you know,
- 36:46Speaker 10: kind of get over the hump here. So I'm very
- 36:49Speaker 10: happy for Pears. He deserves and I hope he goes
- 36:51Speaker 10: out and wins another cup here because he's the one
- 36:54Speaker 10: guy that I feel he needs to get one here,
- 36:56Speaker 10: like we need him to get one here.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Yeah, fariet chance.
- 36:59Speaker 1: When the Stanley Cup eighteen years if you first won
- 37:01Speaker 1: it with the Ducks switching gears back, Kelly Chase first
- 37:05Speaker 1: notes you when you were a kid, brought to you
- 37:06Speaker 1: as any AHL team in text Arcana. Obviously he's a
- 37:10Speaker 1: legendary figure in the game, beloved by all.
- 37:12Speaker 2: What do you remember from your first few meetings with Chaser?
- 37:16Speaker 10: Honesty up front? Uh, you know, straight to the point,
- 37:22Speaker 10: kind of guy. You know, no bullshit with him, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 10: don't try to bullshit your way around him, and kind
- 37:27Speaker 10: of right. You know, he was just straight up with
- 37:30Speaker 10: me and my father and you know, had a meeting
- 37:33Speaker 10: with them. It's like your kid, you know, can play
- 37:36Speaker 10: on our team this year, but he's he's got to
- 37:38Speaker 10: put the soda down.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Come on, coach.
- 37:48Speaker 3: What I mean, how is there anything that shows how
- 37:52Speaker 3: you know tight that that's fuck? That's great? Is there
- 37:55Speaker 3: anything that shows how tight the community is? You know,
- 37:58Speaker 3: with just everything he's been kind of fighting with and
- 38:01Speaker 3: and uh, just showing the outreach and support and I
- 38:05Speaker 3: mean a guy that kind of was just tough as
- 38:08Speaker 3: nails and all the people that at a drop of
- 38:11Speaker 3: a hat will just run out and do anything they
- 38:14Speaker 3: can to support him and support his cause.
- 38:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 38:17Speaker 10: Absolutely, but I think he's the first person that helps
- 38:20Speaker 10: all those people before and I think, yeah, you know,
- 38:23Speaker 10: he's the one guy that takes every phone call, takes
- 38:26Speaker 10: you know, anything that people need help with, charity events
- 38:30Speaker 10: or you know, just him showing up to you know,
- 38:33Speaker 10: just a small event that doesn't mean nothing, but it
- 38:37Speaker 10: means something to Chase her because he wants to do
- 38:39Speaker 10: that stuff. And you know, he's the first person that
- 38:41Speaker 10: takes a phone call for anyone, and he's always there
- 38:44Speaker 10: for people, always trying to help out the Saint Louis community,
- 38:47Speaker 10: always trying to help out his friends, you know, doing
- 38:50Speaker 10: little things that you know that will help in that
- 38:54Speaker 10: you know, he sees some he's he'll see something in
- 38:57Speaker 10: someone that you know he believes in. And and that's
- 39:01Speaker 10: why he's such a legend now in Saint Louis, but
- 39:05Speaker 10: around the league because of what he does and how
- 39:08Speaker 10: respectful he is and what he does for people, the
- 39:10Speaker 10: outreach he does and the stuff he does out just
- 39:13Speaker 10: to go out of his way to do it, and that's.
- 39:16Speaker 7: Just kind of who he is.
- 39:17Speaker 10: He's a loyal, loyal man, and you know, the way
- 39:22Speaker 10: he does things and operates is pretty impressive. And and
- 39:25Speaker 10: I can see why all this outreach for him with
- 39:28Speaker 10: his charity events and everyone that comes and the people
- 39:31Speaker 10: that show up, and he deserves it more than anyone
- 39:35Speaker 10: because he's He's the one that probably did something for
- 39:38Speaker 10: all those people before that, you know, So that's just
- 39:42Speaker 10: the kind of guy he is. And you know, hopefully
- 39:44Speaker 10: he can keep fighting here and he can battle his
- 39:46Speaker 10: way out of this because he is a fighter, and
- 39:49Speaker 10: we're all thinking of him, and you know, lots of
- 39:51Speaker 10: prayers for him, but you know, he's a fighter though,
- 39:54Speaker 10: we all know that, so he'll get through this.
- 39:57Speaker 1: One of things you got to enjoy, hopefully, Pat now
- 39:58Speaker 1: retirements being a hockey dad, how's it seeing your son
- 40:01Speaker 1: Anthony develop as an elite level prospect.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Yeah, it's fun.
- 40:05Speaker 10: It's fun to be a dad now, no I mean dad,
- 40:08Speaker 10: but be a hockey dad. And like maybe travel with
- 40:11Speaker 10: him this year and go see go watch some junior
- 40:14Speaker 10: games and go watch him play, because I haven't really
- 40:17Speaker 10: done that in a long time, so this will be
- 40:20Speaker 10: a nice nice break for me to like go watch
- 40:23Speaker 10: him and sit down and enjoy game and and watch
- 40:27Speaker 10: him develop. So I'm really proud of him and his
- 40:29Speaker 10: work ethic and that after he's been putting in this
- 40:31Speaker 10: summer and got we got two camps this year coming up,
- 40:36Speaker 10: so this summer, so looking forward to bringing him and
- 40:40Speaker 10: watching what he does. And you know, I'm just excited
- 40:43Speaker 10: to be his dad, and I'm just excited that he's
- 40:45Speaker 10: just a good, good person and good human being and
- 40:49Speaker 10: he's a good person first before hockey. That's all that
- 40:51Speaker 10: matters to me. And you know, hopefully he can continue
- 40:55Speaker 10: that and his hockey player will continue to get better.
- 40:57Speaker 10: You know, he's a he's a late bloomer, but you
- 41:00Speaker 10: know it's it's a marathon, not a spread. That's always
- 41:02Speaker 10: telling him just keep working hard and if you effort
- 41:04Speaker 10: in good things will happen.
- 41:06Speaker 4: What what did what did he take from your game?
- 41:11Speaker 7: My hands in my boy.
- 41:15Speaker 10: And my.
- 41:17Speaker 7: My skating?
- 41:18Speaker 10: He he skates straight up, So I have pat.
- 41:22Speaker 4: You need to get is he an uprighter? You're gonna
- 41:25Speaker 4: get get those quads down?
- 41:27Speaker 10: Yeah, we need to get him lower in his stance.
- 41:31Speaker 10: We need to get his core work going.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Oh, you know, winning three cups, you know every one.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I'm sure has its own memory and and own amazing moment.
- 41:40Speaker 3: But like for you, which which one kind of really
- 41:42Speaker 3: stands out as special and and something that will you
- 41:45Speaker 3: know your favorite.
- 41:50Speaker 7: I guess St.
- 41:50Speaker 10: Louis because I'm from Saint Louis and it was the
- 41:52Speaker 10: first one and being a part of that team and
- 41:57Speaker 10: what we went through through, you know, the month from
- 42:00Speaker 10: September to January and the way we came out of it.
- 42:03Speaker 10: And but each of them are very different and very
- 42:07Speaker 10: different and special in a different way.
- 42:10Speaker 7: You know, ironically, I'm from Saint Louis.
- 42:12Speaker 10: You know, we're dead last, and then somehow the Saint
- 42:15Speaker 10: Louis Blues team comes from the bottom to the top
- 42:18Speaker 10: and place to Stanley Cup. And you know, I think
- 42:22Speaker 10: for me it was like the mark going down Market
- 42:24Speaker 10: Street during the parade and you know, going there when
- 42:28Speaker 10: the Cardinals won the World's serious. And now I'm doing
- 42:31Speaker 10: it as a as a as a player, and you know,
- 42:35Speaker 10: I used to be a fan of the Cardinals going
- 42:37Speaker 10: down and watching the parades. Now I'm the guy doing it,
- 42:40Speaker 10: and you know, seeing my dad's face and my brothers
- 42:44Speaker 10: and my sister, and like my dad was the season
- 42:46Speaker 10: ticket holder for the Blues and the Cardinals, so like
- 42:49Speaker 10: to have those moments and share them with him was
- 42:52Speaker 10: pretty special, you know, going to the old Arena, watching
- 42:55Speaker 10: him get torn down, and then you know they're moving
- 42:58Speaker 10: to the Kills Center and then now it's the Enterprise Center.
- 43:00Speaker 10: So it's like all those special moments that kind of
- 43:03Speaker 10: let up to that moment, and you know, just being
- 43:08Speaker 10: a part of that team. That team was so special.
- 43:10Speaker 10: We had such a great locker m great teammates. You know,
- 43:14Speaker 10: it was one of the closest locker rooms I've ever
- 43:16Speaker 10: been a part of and still to this day. And
- 43:19Speaker 10: to have that moment with them and to share with them,
- 43:21Speaker 10: and you know, Saint Louis couldn't get over the hump
- 43:24Speaker 10: in the conference finals, just kept seeing like the conference
- 43:26Speaker 10: finals and then finally they just got over the humps.
- 43:31Speaker 10: So to see all that it was pretty special. And
- 43:33Speaker 10: then with Tampa was like the Columbus thing and getting swept.
- 43:39Speaker 7: You know, they have an E League team. Can they
- 43:42Speaker 7: do it? Though? Are they selfish?
- 43:44Speaker 10: Like all these moments and then you kind of go
- 43:46Speaker 10: to the team that kind of finds your identity late
- 43:49Speaker 10: into the year. I think COVID hit obviously, but you know,
- 43:53Speaker 10: we kind of stuck to the structure and kind of
- 43:55Speaker 10: stuck together as a team, and the group chats and
- 43:58Speaker 10: making sure everyone's doing good, and you knew you had
- 44:00Speaker 10: something special about that. You know, you kind of put
- 44:03Speaker 10: Columbus the side because it just was all the media
- 44:06Speaker 10: was this Columbus. Can you guys do this Columbus? And
- 44:09Speaker 10: finally guys like, fuck Columbus, I'm tired of talking about it.
- 44:14Speaker 10: But you know, it was just special to see those
- 44:16Speaker 10: guys because they've you know, they've been to conference finals,
- 44:18Speaker 10: they've been to finals. When are they gonna win? When's
- 44:21Speaker 10: their opportunity gonna come? And then you know, we you
- 44:24Speaker 10: can just tell we had it. You know, we put
- 44:25Speaker 10: everything aside. We team first, guys, great locker room, you know,
- 44:30Speaker 10: guys willing us to play simple hockey, not chasing and
- 44:35Speaker 10: not chasing offense, playing more defensively because I know, defense
- 44:38Speaker 10: kind of ran in some trouble. They weren't really playing
- 44:41Speaker 10: they can they couldn't defend, and we locked down defense
- 44:45Speaker 10: and our offense kind of took over a little bit.
- 44:48Speaker 10: But watching those guys voisted Stanley Cup for the first time,
- 44:51Speaker 10: and you can see it was like the the weight
- 44:54Speaker 10: on their shoulders kind of often lifted because of you know,
- 44:58Speaker 10: the years of grinds of the conference finals and you know,
- 45:01Speaker 10: the Stanley Cup finals they lost, So it was kind
- 45:04Speaker 10: of nice to see all those guys, you know, and
- 45:06Speaker 10: get that opportunity to lift it and kind of you know,
- 45:09Speaker 10: the smiles and you know, and what they had too
- 45:12Speaker 10: is special.
- 45:13Speaker 7: So you know, I was a small piece of the puzzle.
- 45:17Speaker 10: They already had the puzzle, you know, together, it was
- 45:20Speaker 10: just figuring it out itself, right, So I think that
- 45:23Speaker 10: was more enjoyment for me too, Like they had everything
- 45:27Speaker 10: you can possibly get as a team, the closeness to
- 45:29Speaker 10: the guys, the hockey talent, you know, the lines, the
- 45:33Speaker 10: makeup of the team.
- 45:34Speaker 7: It was just finally getting over the hump.
- 45:35Speaker 10: And I watching them left that Standard Cup finally was
- 45:38Speaker 10: awesome to see last one.
- 45:40Speaker 1: For me, Pat, you a really had the perfect send
- 45:42Speaker 1: off to your NHL career, and that often isn't the
- 45:44Speaker 1: case for pro athletes, right injuries happen, you want to
- 45:46Speaker 1: keep playing, you can't get a contract.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Et cetera.
- 45:48Speaker 1: But for you, it was it was so specially an
- 45:50Speaker 1: Now it's live on the ear of Darren Paging and
- 45:51Speaker 1: you're retiring a great ovation from the crowd in Chicago.
- 45:54Speaker 1: And one of my favorite moments of the year is
- 45:55Speaker 1: March twenty second, twenty twenty five, your final game against
- 45:58Speaker 1: the Blues. You get a nice video tribute and you
- 46:00Speaker 1: were named first Star.
- 46:02Speaker 2: How cool was that?
- 46:03Speaker 7: It was all Austin. Obviously, I didn't expect that at all.
- 46:10Speaker 10: Our team, our PR guy came down and kind of
- 46:12Speaker 10: talked to me and say, hey, they want to do
- 46:14Speaker 10: this for you. I was like be sure, like yeah,
- 46:17Speaker 10: and it was like every period, so it was really
- 46:19Speaker 10: neat and like I said, like I told Peger, like
- 46:22Speaker 10: I've I don't expect that at all. I'm not an
- 46:24Speaker 10: e leade player. I just played the game because I
- 46:26Speaker 10: loved it and I worked hard, and like, I'm not
- 46:30Speaker 10: an the lead player to have that ovation or be
- 46:33Speaker 10: a part of something special because that's just not who
- 46:36Speaker 10: I am.
- 46:37Speaker 7: One and then the player itself.
- 46:39Speaker 10: But really cool with the Saint Louis Blues did for
- 46:42Speaker 10: me and Doug Armstrong and Alex Dein and they didn't
- 46:46Speaker 10: have to do any of that. And I'm so happy
- 46:49Speaker 10: because my wife wasn't thinking about coming down that day
- 46:53Speaker 10: and she came down with the kids.
- 46:54Speaker 7: So that was a special moment for me and my family.
- 46:58Speaker 10: That was everyone in in in the stands at night,
- 47:01Speaker 10: so the Blues didn't have to do any of that.
- 47:02Speaker 10: So I really think for that moment, and you know,
- 47:06Speaker 10: that was a cool moment for me and my family
- 47:08Speaker 10: to share together.
- 47:11Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's awesome when you're able to kind
- 47:13Speaker 3: of write your own ending, and as much as it's
- 47:17Speaker 3: it's difficult to do as an athlete. But you know,
- 47:19Speaker 3: my last one for me is maybe on the lighter side.
- 47:22Speaker 3: You know, you had Bruce Boudreau early in your career
- 47:24Speaker 3: and you're probably gonna see him at the network.
- 47:27Speaker 4: Nice.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Uh, so you gotta give me a funny the best
- 47:31Speaker 3: Bruce Boudreau pregame speech you've heard, because he is a
- 47:35Speaker 3: treat to work with at the network and you're gonna
- 47:38Speaker 3: see first n.
- 47:40Speaker 10: I'm gonna say, I don't have a speech when I have, like,
- 47:43Speaker 10: I don't know to ever tell you guys a story
- 47:45Speaker 10: about his pregame meal.
- 47:47Speaker 7: No, okay, So Bruce Brudro's pregame meal.
- 47:53Speaker 10: It's two steaks, pound of pasta and meat sauce on top,
- 48:01Speaker 10: and two and two diet cokes, A big fella.
- 48:06Speaker 4: I think he scarf said down at the network. I
- 48:09Speaker 4: think if they have it, it was like.
- 48:10Speaker 7: He was playing the game.
- 48:11Speaker 10: A pound of postics probably exaggerating, but yeah, a lot
- 48:16Speaker 10: enough pasta like where you can like pat it down,
- 48:19Speaker 10: you know, so I think. And then after he would
- 48:24Speaker 10: eat that, he would grab two cookies and then he
- 48:27Speaker 10: would he would hide them.
- 48:31Speaker 4: He wouldn't.
- 48:33Speaker 2: He didn't want to be ashamed.
- 48:34Speaker 7: He didn't want to be ashamed. He'd look around and
- 48:36Speaker 7: hide and like put him by his side of his pants.
- 48:40Speaker 4: He's the best.
- 48:43Speaker 7: Someone would get in the elevated like, oh, Bruce, you
- 48:45Speaker 7: get some cookies, just a little pregame cookie, you know.
- 48:48Speaker 1: And so he.
- 48:52Speaker 10: In pre game speech he would have the chocolate all
- 48:55Speaker 10: over because him hide it all over soup pants.
- 49:05Speaker 7: And he wouldn't realize it. So guys would just be laughing.
- 49:09Speaker 10: And you know he's diabetic, you know, and he would
- 49:13Speaker 10: prick himself and there'd be blood on his belly. But uh,
- 49:21Speaker 10: I got we have a funny story, or Kevin Bieksa,
- 49:27Speaker 10: he was, uh, this one, Bruce kind of got embarrassed,
- 49:30Speaker 10: but it was pretty funny. Bruce was like the first
- 49:33Speaker 10: one we because back then you know, Jad, we didn't
- 49:35Speaker 10: have like chefs or males.
- 49:37Speaker 7: We had yeah, none of that practice.
- 49:39Speaker 10: Someone had to buy lunch for someone, you know what
- 49:41Speaker 10: I mean. We didn't have breakfast. We didn't have We
- 49:45Speaker 10: were lucky if we got bananas or strawberries right.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Or or stale muffins.
- 49:51Speaker 10: Or the or the bread that was moldy for to go.
- 49:56Speaker 10: But we had Tripoli in and out.
- 50:00Speaker 7: I'm not for sure.
- 50:02Speaker 10: And Bruce was like the first one to get it.
- 50:04Speaker 10: We're all the sitting there. He actually comes in, he
- 50:06Speaker 10: goes say some say something for the rest of us.
- 50:09Speaker 7: Bruce and I was dying and Bruce's you know, Bruce's
- 50:16Speaker 7: face gets really red. Yeah, and he's just fuck you
- 50:21Speaker 7: just walked away.
- 50:22Speaker 10: And I was like, but that's the only person that
- 50:25Speaker 10: can do that, is be actually, because he's just a
- 50:27Speaker 10: sense of humor, he's witty and he doesn't give a
- 50:30Speaker 10: ship what you think either.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, man, Papa is going to be an awesome
- 50:37Speaker 1: addition to the NHL network as an analyst and uh
- 50:40Speaker 1: obviously keep him very busy right now at home as well.
- 50:42Speaker 2: This was awesome, Pat, appreciate you, man. We'll see soon.
- 50:44Speaker 7: Thank you guys.
- 50:47Speaker 1: MM hmm, all right, Patty, great guy again. Look forward
- 50:55Speaker 1: to see him on NHL Network with all the rest
- 50:57Speaker 1: of us. Quick senep on sixty on The Gorge, new
- 50:59Speaker 1: movie on Apple TV plus. Give me a few months
- 51:01Speaker 1: to destroying Miles Taller and you Taylor Joy before you
- 51:05Speaker 1: get into this.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Yeah, go ahead.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I saw the previews of this and was like, I'm
- 51:10Speaker 3: very excited to hear what you think because they saw
- 51:12Speaker 3: the trailer and I was like, fuck this.
- 51:17Speaker 1: So the only reason I want to see is just
- 51:19Speaker 1: for that cast. I love Miles Teller, fellow Eagles and
- 51:21Speaker 1: interviewing much for stuff. He's a great dude, so I
- 51:23Speaker 1: always want to suppor him and in any Teller Joy
- 51:24Speaker 1: Man Rick Queen's gambit. So I'm like, you know, I
- 51:27Speaker 1: did not see the trailer. I'm like yourself. I just like, oh,
- 51:29Speaker 1: a new movie, Miles Teller, go see it. So it's
- 51:31Speaker 1: The Gorge, which is literally just a gorge of Milla Nowhere,
- 51:34Speaker 1: one of these future dystopian thrillers. Miles Teller's on one
- 51:37Speaker 1: end and all his job is he's a sniper. He
- 51:39Speaker 1: shot people and killed him from four thousand feet away.
- 51:41Speaker 1: If anything starts to crawl up, I ee, these weird creatures,
- 51:44Speaker 1: you shoot them. That's it, that's my job. Okay, you're
- 51:45Speaker 1: there for three to sixty five days. He takes her
- 51:47Speaker 1: from the previous guy. One day he knows any taller
- 51:49Speaker 1: Joy's on the other side of the gorge. So now
- 51:51Speaker 1: through binoculars they start communicating. The ramone starts playing, Hey,
- 51:54Speaker 1: let's dance together.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Like this is quirky shit, right.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Eventually I'm like, well, they're gonna hook up. He takes
- 51:58Speaker 1: a zip line, goes down to earth side of the gorge.
- 52:01Speaker 1: They get it on, let's get.
- 52:02Speaker 4: It bangs here.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Yeah, another you know, you just random just now, just
- 52:08Speaker 3: throwing a sex scene for no reason, right, why not?
- 52:11Speaker 9: Right?
- 52:12Speaker 2: I was like, Okay, I guess they're lonely. It's middle of.
- 52:13Speaker 4: Nowhere, it's future, the middle of gorge.
- 52:15Speaker 1: And then middle of gorgon, then up the gorge. Hey,
- 52:17Speaker 1: wi the wile they're you know, making the beast with
- 52:19Speaker 1: two backs. Also these weird creatures to get I'm like,
- 52:21Speaker 1: what the fuck? And then it gets a little kuokie
- 52:23Speaker 1: and weird, and it wasn't great. I mean, I suppose
- 52:26Speaker 1: if you like dystopian thrillers in that environment, it looked beautiful.
- 52:29Speaker 1: I'm sure Apple TV Plus through a ton of money
- 52:31Speaker 1: on it. Again, I like both those actors a lot,
- 52:33Speaker 1: but it becomes fairly generic, routine.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Sci fi thriller.
- 52:36Speaker 1: There's not a whole lot of thought to Sigourney Weaver,
- 52:38Speaker 1: by the way, shows up in the movie just clearly
- 52:39Speaker 1: taking a paycheck.
- 52:40Speaker 2: I'm like, you know right away.
- 52:41Speaker 1: But the first shoes he shows up like Sigourny Weavers
- 52:43Speaker 1: clearly evil, she's setting things. So she's just collusing here.
- 52:46Speaker 1: So it's not worth two hours in tendendtes of your time.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Buddy, Well it you know, it reminds me of a
- 52:51Speaker 3: movie I just watched on the plane because I was
- 52:54Speaker 3: in the airport for twenty four hours and it could
- 52:56Speaker 3: not work because I was so pissed. I just watched
- 52:59Speaker 3: The Great Wall with Matt Damon. That movie's ho page.
- 53:02Speaker 3: But that's the same that's that's so bad, But that's
- 53:05Speaker 3: the same kind of movie. It's like, oh, creatures coming
- 53:08Speaker 3: and there's a wall ad. Why does the water look
- 53:09Speaker 3: at twa looking at me like I got six heads?
- 53:11Speaker 11: No No.
- 53:13Speaker 1: I used to work at USP on college football Danny
- 53:15Speaker 1: Cannell and Joey Galloway one time galliy walks in goes Oh,
- 53:18Speaker 1: I just saw The Great Wall, and canell are like, what, like,
- 53:19Speaker 1: would you actually paid money it was great? I'm like,
- 53:21Speaker 1: wait a second, you paid money to see it and
- 53:23Speaker 1: you thought it was great, because that movie is atrocious.
- 53:26Speaker 2: I made a point of watching to see how bad
- 53:27Speaker 2: it was.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Oh, his accent is just so funny, career killer.
- 53:33Speaker 1: If you're not that David, let's I like, yeah, tell
- 53:35Speaker 1: you didn't never know up watching? You just know it's awful,
- 53:37Speaker 1: So just know he's bad.
- 53:38Speaker 2: You have to see it.
- 53:39Speaker 7: No, I've seen it.
- 53:40Speaker 4: I've seen it.
- 53:41Speaker 3: God, well, there's no gratuita sex scene because it was
- 53:47Speaker 3: back when you know, movies were movies, and now it's
- 53:49Speaker 3: just just throw a sex scene. Yeah, that's I'm really
- 53:52Speaker 3: turned on in the middle of a gorge where creatures
- 53:54Speaker 3: from hell are coming up.
- 53:55Speaker 4: That's really.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Let me take a zip line. Let me take a
- 53:59Speaker 3: zip line across instead of just jerking off to the binoculars.
- 54:05Speaker 2: That would have been a great twist.
- 54:07Speaker 1: The same time, Jack aas Award winner Spencer Carberry. This
- 54:10Speaker 1: is about as expected as speaking of jacked Jack Adams,
- 54:16Speaker 1: I can't believe this first goes to wing coach there
- 54:18Speaker 1: the NHL, HL and EHL.
- 54:20Speaker 2: That's unreal.
- 54:21Speaker 1: What a hat trick for Spencer Carberry clearly deserve that JAD.
- 54:23Speaker 1: He don't expected the Capitals being a number one seed.
- 54:25Speaker 1: He did an unbelievable job.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Congrats.
- 54:27Speaker 3: I really like the way they're doing those revealed, the
- 54:31Speaker 3: award reveals with family and I like those things, the surprises.
- 54:34Speaker 3: The Sean Monahan one too with Meredith Caudreau is old
- 54:37Speaker 3: man that made me cry like a baby. But the
- 54:40Speaker 3: Spencer Carber, I mean, he's proven winner. He's such a
- 54:44Speaker 3: smart coach and he seems to get the most out
- 54:46Speaker 3: of his players and everybody you ask and talk to
- 54:48Speaker 3: I think I think he also is very smart. He
- 54:50Speaker 3: surrounds himself with the right people, Kirk Muller, Scottie Allen,
- 54:54Speaker 3: just a great group of coaches around him and a
- 54:57Speaker 3: team that can kind of support him.
- 54:58Speaker 4: So he's great. I love it.
- 55:00Speaker 1: He'll be a great coach for long time to coming.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Young guy only thirty seven years of age, obviously winning coaching.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Well all right, well it's like kind of becoming kiss
- 55:08Speaker 3: to death a little bit with the Jack Adams, Rick
- 55:11Speaker 3: Todkins Montgomery fired fired, so look out look out look
- 55:16Speaker 3: out Spencer Garvey Peters bar is a lurking like Homer
- 55:20Speaker 3: and the Bushes.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Great meme of Homer. This one was found by Tal
- 55:25Speaker 1: He was fired up for this one. Interesting discussion for
- 55:28Speaker 1: her Patriot's team. It's Julian Edelman rober Gronkowski on the
- 55:31Speaker 1: Dudes on Dudes podcast. The discussed Tyler Sagan's tenure with
- 55:35Speaker 1: the Bruins, and Edelman joke that coach Bill Belichick may
- 55:37Speaker 1: have had Sagan traded away from the Bruins because if
- 55:40Speaker 1: Patriots players were having too much fun out of the
- 55:42Speaker 1: town with it, then Bruins forward Tyler Sagan.
- 55:45Speaker 4: We're having too much fun.
- 55:46Speaker 11: I think Coach Belichick had him traded because he was
- 55:49Speaker 11: influenced us. He had so much fun with this kid.
- 55:53Speaker 11: We did like they said, we got to get him
- 55:55Speaker 11: out for all the sports. He just liked to have
- 55:57Speaker 11: a good time.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Don't put me on the spot with this one. When
- 56:00Speaker 3: I have pertinent knowledge on this, I ain't touching this
- 56:03Speaker 3: one of the ten foot pole kidding me. Uh no,
- 56:06Speaker 3: they had fun. I'm sure they were all young. They
- 56:08Speaker 3: were winning. Yeah, I can imagine in Boston it would
- 56:13Speaker 3: be quite interesting.
- 56:16Speaker 4: But tell us and that's what I'm leaving at at.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but listen, go back to Mike Richards, Jeff Carter
- 56:21Speaker 1: right rumors where they were having too much fun in Philadelphia.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Bob Clark didn't like that. There's this many many a story,
- 56:26Speaker 2: but a player who got a little ramboses perhaps and
- 56:28Speaker 2: they just want to make a move.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Jason Emers say, Jason Mers in Dallas, Jason Mers
- 56:33Speaker 3: in Florida, this Demers in Arizona.
- 56:37Speaker 5: Well that's that makes me wonder, JD. Because you you hear,
- 56:40Speaker 5: you know, we've heard this story before. The guys having
- 56:42Speaker 5: too much fun, so they trade him. Is that something
- 56:45Speaker 5: that players can still do today? I mean, it's hard
- 56:47Speaker 5: to get away with anything these days, especially if you're
- 56:50Speaker 5: playing in a Boston or a Toronto or a New York.
- 56:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair.
- 56:56Speaker 3: I think there's more like security measures put in place now,
- 56:59Speaker 3: Like guys, you know, back then you didn't have to
- 57:02Speaker 3: like you know, and this is crap to even admit that.
- 57:05Speaker 3: I've seen these things where it's like you you know,
- 57:08Speaker 3: pop phones get checked at the door. You know, phones
- 57:12Speaker 3: get you have to sign an NDA and stuff like that,
- 57:14Speaker 3: and it's like to go to like a bar, and
- 57:16Speaker 3: a party if there's guys there and there's more like security.
- 57:19Speaker 4: There's always like a security guy.
- 57:20Speaker 3: Around now a lot of the times, I think for
- 57:21Speaker 3: the top guys, and in any sport, I don't just
- 57:25Speaker 3: think hockey, so I think it's more protected. But yeah,
- 57:29Speaker 3: to your point, like you can't just be you know,
- 57:31Speaker 3: going out night before a game to a nightclub, like
- 57:34Speaker 3: people will find out about that. And it's also varies
- 57:37Speaker 3: on markets. You know, certain markets are a little bit
- 57:39Speaker 3: you know, in San Jose is easier to do something
- 57:41Speaker 3: then I mean New York is still pretty easy in
- 57:44Speaker 3: the sense of you know, it's pretty hush hush there. Yeah,
- 57:49Speaker 3: but like you can do stuff with the devils and
- 57:51Speaker 3: no one will know. But it's like, you know, if
- 57:54Speaker 3: you're in La or you're in you know, Montreal, people
- 57:57Speaker 3: know if you're out, like if you're sitting at the
- 57:59Speaker 3: bar having a couple of cocktails, a couple of tails.
- 58:01Speaker 1: But think about how ridiculous is the Actually the three
- 58:03Speaker 1: of us are on a teams have a little get together,
- 58:05Speaker 1: a few ladies coming over and he goes, hey, by
- 58:06Speaker 1: the way you walk in, you just gotta sign the
- 58:08Speaker 1: cendia and put your phone away.
- 58:11Speaker 2: That's the last thing here. Canada clearly behind the Oilers.
- 58:15Speaker 1: The CN Tower in Toronto lit up in blue and
- 58:18Speaker 1: orange for Game one, as was Montreal's Champlain Bridge. How
- 58:22Speaker 1: unpressed I think it is for I was just show
- 58:25Speaker 1: the plunctation, I said, you and you and Towell correct
- 58:26Speaker 1: me if I'm bull But could you imagine if the
- 58:28Speaker 1: Leafs were in the finals like Edmonton wouldn't be supporting Toronto?
- 58:32Speaker 4: I think no.
- 58:33Speaker 3: I think we finally hit I think we finally hit
- 58:37Speaker 3: the tipping point where people are just like, I don't
- 58:39Speaker 3: give a fuck which Canadian team wins.
- 58:41Speaker 4: We just need one to win.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Eight thirty two years, it's like thirty tiers forty for Toronto.
- 58:46Speaker 3: I think any any fan in hockey, I don't other
- 58:51Speaker 3: than the team they're playing in the finals, would be
- 58:53Speaker 3: rooting for Toronto to win because I think we're all
- 58:55Speaker 3: sick of them losing. And the media in Toronto is
- 58:59Speaker 3: so happy when they lose because he gives them storylines
- 59:01Speaker 3: and they can just keep that, you know again and
- 59:03Speaker 3: all their Cash's podcast. And if any of them go
- 59:06Speaker 3: around and say no I want them to win, I'm like, no,
- 59:08Speaker 3: you don't. You could see Pete like I love I
- 59:11Speaker 3: love looking at like Toronto Twitter like now during the
- 59:15Speaker 3: finals and they're like Brad Marschath thirteen goals in the playoffs,
- 59:18Speaker 3: Mitch Marner thirteen goals in the last ten years. It's like,
- 59:21Speaker 3: give it a fucking rest man. It's like, like, let these.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Guys like, yeah, they lost, Like Marner's gone, Like it's it,
- 59:28Speaker 4: that's it. Things have changed.
- 59:30Speaker 3: It's like stop building them up so much in your
- 59:32Speaker 3: head during the season, so you're disappointing the playoffs just
- 59:35Speaker 3: just enjoyed as a fan. But you know, I just
- 59:37Speaker 3: think back to your point. I think Edmonton would be
- 59:40Speaker 3: rooting for Toronto. I think we'd all be rooting for
- 59:41Speaker 3: any Canadian team. I'm at that point where the.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Only one that we wouldn't be Montreal Sean plain Bridge
- 59:47Speaker 1: would not have blue and white. They would not be
- 59:48Speaker 1: supporting the least well the siparatist. So I can't see
- 59:54Speaker 1: mutrel supporting Toronto a cupfall.
- 59:55Speaker 3: You think I think Montreal would at this point now
- 59:58Speaker 3: because Montreal fans understand where they're at as a team. Also,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: you know, like it's yeah, it hasn't been a huge
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: rivalry because they haven't been good this year they've been
