Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Later in this show, in the first two hours here
- 0:02Speaker 1: in the next round, we will do an upset alert again.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Forrester has shown me the standings. You will be amazed
- 0:10Speaker 1: at how close the standings are after an amazing weekend
- 0:14Speaker 1: of upset alerts. amazing effort. I think it was a
- 0:17Speaker 1: historic weekend. I think you say historic weekend of upset
- 0:20Speaker 1: alert on this show. Oh, I mean, there's no doubt.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Well, I think in the radio days, I think we
- 0:24Speaker 2: had some 3-0s before, but it's gone a little bit.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Deeper because we have five guys that do it now.
- 0:29Speaker 1: But some outright winners. Everybody scored points. You will be
- 0:32Speaker 1: amazed at the week we had. Can we back it up?
- 0:36Speaker 1: We'll do our upset alerts coming up in our number
- 0:40Speaker 1: two of the show. Chip Brown is going to join
- 0:43Speaker 1: us From the state of Texas to talk about, man,
- 0:46Speaker 1: just the troubles of carrying my daddy's name, Arch Manning.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I don't want to sound like Hank Jr. Is he
- 0:54Speaker 1: all balled up inside? Yeah, but I get all balled
- 0:57Speaker 1: up inside when I'm talking. Actually, he's the one that
- 0:58Speaker 1: doesn't have the famous dad. The dad that just tags
- 1:01Speaker 1: along and gets paid. That's true. He's got that name, though.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We'll talk to Chip about the state of Texas program
- 1:07Speaker 1: coming up after the loss in Red River. My raise
- 1:11Speaker 1: loss last night. And I'm going to offer off the
- 1:14Speaker 1: top of the show here, because in protocol, we need
- 1:17Speaker 1: to start, if you're new to the show, we start
- 1:19Speaker 1: with the Rams when they play on a Monday night.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Can you give me the shot over on the Lego chair?
- 1:25Speaker 1: I've got a chair and a notebook. If you want
- 1:27Speaker 1: to lay down and we can do a therapy session.
- 1:31Speaker 1: That option's out there if you want to go that route.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I've got a chair.
- 1:34Speaker 2: There ready to go with a notebook. You know, for
- 1:36Speaker 2: a lot of people, this felt different, this Rams team.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I mean, Miles Garrett not on the field, which is big. But,
- 1:43Speaker 2: I mean, this is typical Sean McVay Rams. I mean,
- 1:46Speaker 2: we'll get to the special teams in a minute, but
- 1:48Speaker 2: I mean, this is the fourth time in the last
- 1:50Speaker 2: five years they've started two and three.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Oh, is it really? Oh, yeah. So, I mean, they
- 1:54Speaker 1: always get off to slow starts.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's just a little frustrating because there's so many things
- 1:57Speaker 2: they need to clean up right now.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Are they two and three or two and four? They're
- 2:00Speaker 1: two and three. Two and three. Two and three. Okay.
- 2:02Speaker 1: In my head, they were two and four.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Realistically, people can talk about the Philly game and the comeback,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and they shouldn't have. Look, they outgamed Philly by 200 yards.
- 2:08Speaker 2: They should be. in my opinion, three and two. I
- 2:13Speaker 2: can absorb the loss last night. There were a lot
- 2:15Speaker 2: of things that were really frustrating about that. Week one
- 2:17Speaker 2: to San Francisco, they're the best team.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I get it. And it was in Australia. And it
- 2:20Speaker 1: was in Australia. It's hard to remember that happening. It
- 2:23Speaker 1: really is. But I will tell you this.
- 2:24Speaker 2: This is the one thing that will keep Sean McVay
- 2:26Speaker 2: from maybe being one of the greatest coaches of all time.
- 2:29Speaker 2: is the non-commitment to special teams. And I heard this
- 2:32Speaker 2: from some insiders over the last couple of years. It's like,
- 2:36Speaker 2: he's never going to commit to it.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Why?
- 2:37Speaker 1: I don't understand why. I don't know. So this is
- 2:41Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley's defense. Yeah, I mean, that's the way it seems.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Because you go back to last year, for sure there
- 2:46Speaker 2: were three different games. Special teams cost them the game,
- 2:50Speaker 2: including the NFC Championship game. In those other regular season games,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you win one of those, you get home field. The
- 2:56Speaker 2: Rams were probably the best team in the NFL. It
- 2:59Speaker 2: cost them a Super Bowl last year.
- 3:00Speaker 1: For those that missed it last night, what went wrong
- 3:02Speaker 1: with the special teams? That was the opening kickoff. I mean,
- 3:04Speaker 1: they were turning that one 65 yards.
- 3:05Speaker 2: And then, obviously, watching him at 253 pounds at 5'11
- 3:06Speaker 2: roll out there, it's just If you look like that,
- 3:16Speaker 2: you've got to be able to make your kicks. But
- 3:18Speaker 2: he missed one early. He was going to miss the one.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Rousseau blocks it in overtime. But I don't know if
- 3:24Speaker 2: you guys, you probably didn't pay attention to it because
- 3:26Speaker 2: most won't.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Here it is right here. He's going to hook it.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You don't think he was going to make it? I
- 3:29Speaker 1: don't think he was going to make it. Well, the
- 3:30Speaker 1: guy that blocks it is all the way on the
- 3:32Speaker 1: right side of the line of scrimmage.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he was going to hook that. So I think
- 3:34Speaker 2: he would have missed it anyway. It probably had a
- 3:36Speaker 2: better chance with a deflection.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So you had a kick return. You had missed kicks. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: we have no threat here.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Alex Bogman is the returner on punts and kickoffs. Jordan
- 3:47Speaker 2: Whittington gets some of the kickoff returns, but there is
- 3:49Speaker 2: not a threat to return a kick. So you have
- 3:51Speaker 2: no threat there. You've got a terrible kicker, and you
- 3:54Speaker 2: have terrible special teams coverage.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It seemed like on the show yesterday, I forget what
- 3:59Speaker 1: the reference was, but there was something about playing for
- 4:04Speaker 1: Alabama and Georgia. On that third down play, I was
- 4:08Speaker 1: complimenting Alabama after the no-call pass interference of not just
- 4:12Speaker 1: relying on the kicker and still trying to get a
- 4:14Speaker 1: first down, trying to score a touchdown. And you referenced, oh,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'd run into the line and let our kicker go
- 4:21Speaker 1: out and kick. And I even said, even the hefty kicker,
- 4:24Speaker 1: the thicker kicker. And you were like, yeah, yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look inside of 50 in those elements,
- 4:30Speaker 2: that's a kick you got to be able to make.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And yeah, but he is not consistent. No, he has
- 4:34Speaker 1: got the worst percentage right now in the NFL. And
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, it goes back to, I'm watching it. You're right.
- 4:39Speaker 1: He's going to miss that left. I think he pulled it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I don't know if it was a hook.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Like the Rams have gone through so many kickers since
- 4:45Speaker 2: Matt Gay, since winning a Superbowl in 2021, it's just
- 4:48Speaker 2: beyond frustrating. And, I put my phone down, did not
- 4:53Speaker 2: look at it until afterwards, and Brown and a bunch
- 4:55Speaker 2: of people had texted me.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Go for two. Yeah, at that last touchdown, I thought
- 4:59Speaker 1: they should have gone for two. Yeah, and try to
- 5:01Speaker 1: walk it off. If you missed it last night, I
- 5:04Speaker 1: hate to talk like nobody watched it, but just in case,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Stafford drives him down and gets a game-tying touchdown with
- 5:11Speaker 1: less than 20 seconds left, and you have the option
- 5:14Speaker 1: there to kick it, go to overtime. or go for
- 5:17Speaker 1: two and walk it off. And I thought that until
- 5:20Speaker 1: Joe Buck brought it up and then said the Rams
- 5:23Speaker 1: have not converted a two-point conversion in three years. So
- 5:25Speaker 1: I was like, well, maybe I'll back off on that.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I could not believe they've gone three years without converting
- 5:30Speaker 1: a two-point conversion.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It's a three-yard play. Hadn't converted one this year.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I mean, it is.
- 5:35Speaker 2: They just hadn't gone for it a lot. With all
- 5:37Speaker 2: that said, in the moment, Going down, and I thought
- 5:41Speaker 2: they were going to score too fast, which was crazy.
- 5:43Speaker 1: They slowed it down.
- 5:44Speaker 2: One timeout, and I know Sean McVay was criticized for
- 5:47Speaker 2: letting it run down to the two-minute warning.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I liked it.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I thought he should have done that because if you
- 5:50Speaker 2: pick up a first down, which Josh Allen did with
- 5:53Speaker 2: his legs, if they would have called timeout before, the
- 5:55Speaker 2: game's over.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, down on the goal line, I thought you let
- 5:57Speaker 1: too much time run off. Oh, yeah, there's no doubt.
- 6:00Speaker 1: They stood at the goal line and let the clock burn.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And that third down catch by Kyron Williams to put
- 6:05Speaker 2: them at the one. and then ultimately get in. But
- 6:07Speaker 2: at that point, in my head, going down the whole way,
- 6:10Speaker 2: I was like, go for two, go for two.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Go for two, yeah. When they scored, it just felt
- 6:13Speaker 1: like you should have gone for two. Stafford thought they
- 6:15Speaker 1: were going for two. McVay says go for one.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And then I started to kind of process, well, you know,
- 6:21Speaker 2: he believes he's got the better team.
- 6:22Speaker 1: He's at home. Matt Stafford's dealing right now.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You just don't want Josh Allen back on the field.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And another amazing stat, Josh Allen had never won an
- 6:29Speaker 1: overtime game, so I don't know how much that was
- 6:31Speaker 1: factoring into his... Doesn't that blow you away? As good
- 6:34Speaker 1: a quarterback as he is, that was his first overtime
- 6:36Speaker 1: win ever. Both of those stats, I would say... How
- 6:39Speaker 1: many times does the Rams go for two? They win
- 6:41Speaker 1: so many games. They're probably not in that situation. Four attempts.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Four attempts in three years. So not a lot. That's
- 6:46Speaker 1: not much. And how many times do you go to overtime?
- 6:49Speaker 2: Seven.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Seven times. That's a lot. In a career, though, you
- 6:53Speaker 1: would just think Allen would have found a way to
- 6:55Speaker 1: win one of them. And I do think that McVay
- 6:57Speaker 1: is so analytical. Maybe he knew that.
- 6:58Speaker 2: He probably knew that Josh Allen had never won an
- 7:00Speaker 2: overtime for whatever that's worth. But when you force two turnovers,
- 7:04Speaker 2: so you're plus two in turnovers, you got 454 yards,
- 7:08Speaker 2: 33 touchdowns, you scored 34 points. The back end of
- 7:11Speaker 2: the defense played incredible. Like nobody was open all night
- 7:15Speaker 2: for Buffalo. But the problem was you didn't have a
- 7:17Speaker 2: spy on Josh Allen.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Well, Buffalo's got a big problem moving forward is that
- 7:22Speaker 1: everybody in the world is punching the ball on James Cook.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I mean, he is a turnover machine. And you saw
- 7:28Speaker 1: the Rams knew it right away. Did he get one
- 7:29Speaker 1: in overtime too? Did he fumble in overtime?
- 7:31Speaker 3: No, but.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, no, he did fumble it. Yeah, he did. First possession.
- 7:34Speaker 1: First possession.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Nate Lambin, you know, punched it out again. But,
- 7:37Speaker 2: you know, Lambin had 13 tackles, but he goes for
- 7:39Speaker 2: the punch so much he misses a.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Lot of tackles. But that's why I think the Bills,
- 7:43Speaker 1: didn't the Bills kick on second down? Because I think
- 7:45Speaker 1: they were like, we'd like to run it, but we
- 7:46Speaker 1: can't trust our running back. That's right. So we've got
- 7:48Speaker 1: to kill it. We've got to kick it.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So what would you guys have done on the third
- 7:51Speaker 2: and five in overtime? Because he missed Kyron Williams on
- 7:53Speaker 2: the first down.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Which would have been a walking touchdown. I trust Matt Stafford.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I know, but the only thing I thought about, I
- 7:59Speaker 2: was like, look, he's got to make this kick. Now,
- 8:00Speaker 2: when they lined up for it, I didn't think he
- 8:02Speaker 2: was going to make it. But if you get the
- 8:04Speaker 2: sack there and you go out of field goal range,
- 8:07Speaker 2: we saw what Alabama Georgia did the other night.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I know, I trust Matt Stafford's not going to take
- 8:10Speaker 1: a sack. I mean, the question is, do you trust
- 8:12Speaker 1: Matt Stafford or the thicker kicker more? I don't even
- 8:14Speaker 1: think twice about it. I trust Matt Stafford. I trust
- 8:17Speaker 1: my offense more than I do kickers. And almost in
- 8:20Speaker 1: any situation, yeah. Yeah, that was a tough loss. But
- 8:22Speaker 1: that is, yeah, a very, very frustrating loss.
- 8:24Speaker 2: It shows you why Josh Allen is the best football
- 8:27Speaker 2: player on the planet.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, what he did with his legs. Do
- 8:30Speaker 1: you disagree with that? I don't disagree. I mean, football player, athlete.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I mean, the ability to run. Like, when I had
- 8:38Speaker 1: it on, you know, I'm watching my Rays blow a
- 8:40Speaker 1: 2-0 lead. Bases loaded first inning, can't get any more across, 2-0.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And I watch them get chipped away, and they blow
- 8:46Speaker 1: a lead and lose. And it's on my second TV.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And every time I did glance over there, it seemed like,
- 8:51Speaker 1: The Rams had everybody covered, and then he ran 20
- 8:54Speaker 1: yards or 10 yards or 12 yards. Listen. And out
- 8:58Speaker 1: of bounds, not even taking a hit. He just would
- 9:00Speaker 1: run 10 yards out of bounds, and it'd be another
- 9:02Speaker 1: first down. My team does it twice a year. He's
- 9:05Speaker 1: so annoying to play because of just that thing. And
- 9:07Speaker 1: the problem is that he runs out the back door
- 9:10Speaker 1: so much, it's 10 yards with no punishment. Yeah. It's
- 9:13Speaker 1: a first down, and he doesn't get punished. And he
- 9:14Speaker 1: gets out of bounds or slides.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Hey, Volfan asked, I'm curious what you guys feel. Where
- 9:19Speaker 1: do you fall on take the ball in overtime versus defer?
- 9:21Speaker 1: He said, I was a defer guy until last night
- 9:24Speaker 1: and Sunday night. Yeah. No, I would defer. I'm 100%
- 9:27Speaker 1: defer in the NFL because they've got the rule. Well,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I defer in college, too. Well, I do, too.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, and I like deferring, too, based on the fact
- 9:33Speaker 2: like if your defense goes out and pulls a three
- 9:37Speaker 2: and out, you've got good field position.
- 9:38Speaker 1: That's right.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot of positives, I think, and
- 9:41Speaker 2: if they go down, you know what you've got to do.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Now that both teams get the ball, the play is defer.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You know, and they had Shakir actually had the touchdown
- 9:51Speaker 2: and Cam Kitchens, unbelievable play. But now in retrospect, I
- 9:55Speaker 2: wish he wouldn't have gotten him because the Rams would
- 9:56Speaker 2: have gone down, probably scored a touchdown.
- 9:59Speaker 1: And at that point. Then you go for two. Then
- 10:00Speaker 1: you go for two for sure.
- 10:01Speaker 3: And a win.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And Hines said you go for two there with, what
- 10:05Speaker 1: was it, 12 seconds left, something like that. Even less
- 10:07Speaker 1: than that. Less than that.
- 10:08Speaker 2: So for anybody that was texting last night, I have
- 10:11Speaker 2: not responded to any text.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You did not. It was a very frustrating night. Will
- 10:14Speaker 1: Stein at Kentucky, who has now gone for two. On
- 10:18Speaker 1: the first overtime in back-to-back weeks, his philosophy is, why wait?
- 10:22Speaker 1: We're going to have to do it anyway. And I
- 10:24Speaker 1: would say this, too. You're going to overtime. One play
- 10:27Speaker 1: to win it in regulation. I mean, you're going to
- 10:31Speaker 1: kick it off, but what's really going to happen? I
- 10:35Speaker 1: would have gone for it at the end of the game. Well,
- 10:37Speaker 1: in college, and Stein has won the coin, Tulsa, in
- 10:40Speaker 1: both these overtimes, which is the key in college because
- 10:42Speaker 1: you get to go on defense first. But in college,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you're about to have to run your best two-point play
- 10:48Speaker 1: in the next overtime. That's right. If you've got the
- 10:50Speaker 1: ball second. Why not just run it right now and
- 10:52Speaker 1: end the game? You're about to have to use it.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You've just scored. The Bills' defense is on their heels.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Take all the trash that has to happen in overtime
- 11:01Speaker 1: in a 10-minute period. You don't want to play for
- 11:03Speaker 1: a tie anyway. Matt Stafford. I'd have gone for it.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And Stafford has got to stop waiting until the fourth
- 11:09Speaker 2: quarter to be incredible this year. First three quarters have
- 11:12Speaker 2: been uneven through five games for him. He hasn't been
- 11:15Speaker 2: the MVP that we saw last year.
- 11:19Speaker 1: He's going to be done at this end of the year.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I really think Sean McVay watching again postgame, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 2: sick to his stomach.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think this is just, it's way too grueling for him. Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't think he can handle it.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I think he is going to be out after this year.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And so it's going to be really frustrating, especially if
- 11:33Speaker 2: Miles Garrett never gets on the field.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So you're two and three. I wore my Buccaneers hat,
- 11:38Speaker 1: even though it's Tennessee hate week in the state of Alabama.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'll get shot walking around somewhere today. I wore my
- 11:43Speaker 1: Bucs hat today just to let you know it could
- 11:45Speaker 1: be worse. One and four. two and three, just letting
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know. So no chair shot. We're done over there.
- 11:52Speaker 1: No therapy. Rams, you'll be okay. Yeah. They will fall
- 11:57Speaker 1: out of my top five, though. Thank God. Both of
- 11:59Speaker 1: you guys. They're out of my top five. But you
- 12:02Speaker 1: feel like at this point, you're probably not going to
- 12:05Speaker 1: win the division, right? Oh, yeah. You're not going to
- 12:07Speaker 1: win the division. Not starting to. But I will tell
- 12:09Speaker 1: you this.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I have no problem if the Rams have to go
- 12:12Speaker 2: to Levi to play San Francisco in a situation.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It's much more difficult than Lumen.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yep.
- 12:17Speaker 2: San Francisco winning that game, let them go on and
- 12:18Speaker 2: take this division. Let the Rams win 10 or 11 games,
- 12:21Speaker 2: somehow get in. They've been in this situation before. Not ideal,
- 12:26Speaker 2: but they'll ultimately be fine. But I think there will
- 12:29Speaker 2: be carnage. Harrison Mevis will never kick again for the Rams.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Oh, they're about to cut him? Oh, they'll cut him.
- 12:34Speaker 1: For sure. Tough fight. There are a lot of kickers
- 12:37Speaker 1: out there. Yeah, I mean... By the way, Will Reichert.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was watching him on Sunday. He's such a weapon. Yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 1: for the Vikings. He doesn't miss. He doesn't miss. Yeah, again... Well,
- 12:46Speaker 1: they didn't play at home. The Dolphins came last week.
- 12:49Speaker 1: They said he had not missed at home since 2024. Yeah, well,
- 12:51Speaker 1: it was inside the Superdome this past week. Yeah, this
- 12:53Speaker 1: past week they were on the road. He kicked like
- 12:55Speaker 1: a 60-yarder or something. You've got to find one.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I mean, all these guys have got huge legs and talent,
- 13:01Speaker 2: but it's between the ears. And I think Mivas now,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I don't think moving forward he's got any confidence at all.
- 13:07Speaker 2: So whoever you bring in is probably going to be
- 13:10Speaker 2: a better option.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm only half-joking here. Do you think– body shame that
- 13:13Speaker 1: he goes through in life with his thicker kicker. Well,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I think he leans into it. I think he leans
- 13:18Speaker 1: into it. No, I mean, he has to.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I mean, you've got all the access to the best
- 13:24Speaker 2: dietary supplements.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Workouts, everything. Personal trainers. He doesn't give a shit. I mean,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you saw he was kind of rubbing his belly last night.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I think he leaned into it. Aikman was laughing at him.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I mean, he should get the holder to rub his
- 13:37Speaker 1: belly before every kick. That should be their thing. Maggie
- 13:41Speaker 1: will do that to me every now and then. She'll
- 13:42Speaker 1: rub the tiny Buddha.
- 13:44Speaker 2: When they went full neon on Monday night against New York,
- 13:48Speaker 2: I mean, he looked like a butterball.
- 13:49Speaker 1: He really did. Yeah, only a month away from Thanksgiving.
- 13:53Speaker 2: But you cannot let special teams cost you at this level.
- 13:56Speaker 1: You can't do it. There's no excuse. It gets you
- 13:59Speaker 1: at every level, though. It's college football before we get
- 14:02Speaker 1: to Chip Brown on the State of the Union at Texas.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I got an amazing list of teams for you. After

- 15:05Speaker 1: American League Championship Series over with now. Guardians up 1-0
- 15:10Speaker 1: on the Rays, 7 o'clock on TBS. The Rays, again,
- 15:12Speaker 1: a favorite. Not as massive as they were yesterday. You
- 15:15Speaker 1: can play all that or hard rock bet. Here's your
- 15:17Speaker 1: amazing stat of the day. Offenses, and a little shout-out
- 15:24Speaker 1: to Ryan Ballack of SiriusXM. He had one of these
- 15:27Speaker 1: teams here, so I had to look at the rest
- 15:29Speaker 1: of the teams. Total offensive stats who have offenses worse
- 15:36Speaker 1: than the Iowa Hawkeyes. Strictly a low bar. Iowa did
- 15:42Speaker 1: pad the numbers on Friday against Washington. Offenses of note
- 15:47Speaker 1: that have offenses worse than the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Auburn Tigers,
- 15:53Speaker 1: five spots behind Iowa. I was going to guess Auburn. Well,
- 15:58Speaker 1: if you want to add injury or insult to injury,
- 16:00Speaker 1: Hank Brown started a couple of those games. He was
- 16:03Speaker 1: the Iowa quarterback, yeah. Iowa 62, total offense, Auburn 67.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Penn State with Rocco Beck. Iowa 62, Penn State is 72.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Virginia is 77. Wisconsin, who's having a pretty good year,
- 16:19Speaker 1: is 78. I'll skip this next team. Georgia Tech is 89.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Washington is 90. The team I skipped at 79. What
- 16:29Speaker 1: is that? That is 17 spots behind Iowa total offense. Tennessee?
- 16:35Speaker 4: Nope.
- 16:36Speaker 1: The Texas Longhorns. Should have read ahead on our guest.
- 16:40Speaker 1: The Texas Longhorns, 79th in total offense. I am proud.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Of my daddy's name, well, technically it is a daddy's name,
- 16:50Speaker 1: but that Manny name, that name played on the back,
- 16:54Speaker 1: 79th in total offense with Ryan Coleman Williams, with Wingo,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Cam Coleman.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I look more at scoring offense, but even with that said,
- 17:06Speaker 2: Iowa right now is at 31 points per game. To
- 17:09Speaker 2: your point, Texas, 31.4 points per game. I mean, they're
- 17:13Speaker 2: virtually equal.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 1: We make fun of Iowa's offense all the time. Texas,
- 17:18Speaker 1: worse in total, same in scoring offense. Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo,
- 17:23Speaker 1: Hollywood Smothers, and a Manning at quarterback. Steve Sarkeesian's great
- 17:28Speaker 1: play calling.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Just on scoring offense, they're better than A & M. Again,
- 17:33Speaker 2: 31 points per game for Iowa. A & M, 27 points. Auburn,
- 17:37Speaker 2: almost 27 points per game. Washington, that you mentioned, 26
- 17:41Speaker 2: points per game. Oklahoma way down at 23 points.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I knew Oklahoma was behind. Oklahoma is the new Iowa.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Clemson, the most embarrassing, 19 points per game.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Wow. I hadn't thought about Clemson in months. Nobody has.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That's just amazing. Everybody makes fun of Iowa's offense. We
- 18:00Speaker 1: got some brands behind Iowa. That includes Hook'em. What is
- 18:04Speaker 1: the state of the union in Texas? Chip Brown joins us. Also,
- 18:09Speaker 1: we got an apology yesterday. Billy Sespool got an apology
- 18:12Speaker 1: from Mike Elko. We'll talk to Chip about that as well.
- 18:15Speaker 1: He's coming up on the other side. This is the
- 18:17Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 20:55Speaker 1: We're back with you on the next round presented by
- 20:58Speaker 1: hard rock bed, sporting state. Uh, Chip Brown will join
- 21:00Speaker 1: us here momentarily. We'll get to him. Hey, while we're
- 21:03Speaker 1: waiting on that, I know it's just hard to do
- 21:05Speaker 1: a title, but can you give me Mike Elko? Because
- 21:08Speaker 1: I'll want to talk to Chip about this cut 12.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Here's Mike Elko. If you missed it after the, you know,
- 21:14Speaker 1: loss for Texas A & M this past weekend in Missouri,
- 21:17Speaker 1: he took a shot at the Billy Lucci and Tex Ags.
- 21:19Speaker 1: The one of the most popular fan sites in all
- 21:22Speaker 1: of college sports. And, uh, He called it Billy's cesspool
- 21:26Speaker 1: and the fans that are part of Billy's cesspool. Well,
- 21:29Speaker 1: Mike Elko, tell you how powerful Billy Lucci, Tex Ags,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and the boosters that support Texas A & M are.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Mike Elko, the head coach at Texas A & M,
- 21:38Speaker 1: the first chance he gets to be behind a microphone
- 21:40Speaker 1: again after that says this.
- 21:43Speaker 4: To address the post-game conversation again, I think in the
- 21:50Speaker 4: heat of the moment, I think I answered a question
- 21:52Speaker 4: in a way that I certainly regret I think everybody
- 21:55Speaker 4: knows I have a tremendous relationship with Billy. I appreciate Billy.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I appreciate him being here today. There's nothing about Billy
- 22:02Speaker 4: and I that have ever been off since 2018. I
- 22:06Speaker 4: think everybody knows I appreciate our fan base and everything
- 22:09Speaker 4: that they're about and everything that they mean to Texas
- 22:12Speaker 4: A & M. Outside of that, I'll leave it alone.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I regret the way it was taken. I regret the
- 22:20Speaker 4: way it came out. I regret the way it ran.
- 22:22Speaker 4: So That certainly was never my intention. And certainly throughout
- 22:27Speaker 4: the course of that interview, at no point ever did
- 22:29Speaker 4: I lend any blame to anything other than myself. I
- 22:33Speaker 4: am the reason why this team is struggling. I have
- 22:35Speaker 4: owned that since this has started. I continue to own that.
- 22:38Speaker 4: It's my job to figure out how to get it better.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Other than me throwing a hand grenade into your office,
- 22:43Speaker 1: other than that, I didn't really mean anything by it.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I still can't believe he said it.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's one of those things you've got to catch yourself
- 22:49Speaker 2: before you say it, like going into that and knowing
- 22:52Speaker 2: that Billy Sesspool can be an ally and Billy Sesspool
- 22:56Speaker 2: can also be an enemy.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Well, I just think as a coach, the last thing
- 23:00Speaker 1: you want to do is let anybody know that something
- 23:03Speaker 1: said on a message board bothers you. Once you've admitted that,
- 23:07Speaker 1: that's why I'm not saying Elko can't come back from this,
- 23:10Speaker 1: but once you've let your fans know What you say
- 23:13Speaker 1: on the message board bothers me. I mean, if I'm
- 23:17Speaker 1: an A & M fan, I'm like, boy, we got
- 23:18Speaker 1: a thin-skinned coach if he's worried about what's being said
- 23:21Speaker 1: at techsags.com. Let's jump into the chipper. Let's get chipped up.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of something that would be like
- 23:27Speaker 1: a cesspool with Chip Brown. Chip cesspool. Yeah. Let's jump
- 23:31Speaker 1: into the Brown mess. What if Steve Sarkeesian called you
- 23:36Speaker 1: Chip Brown cesspool over there? You'd probably love every minute
- 23:39Speaker 1: of that, wouldn't you, Chip? It's just printing money for
- 23:41Speaker 1: you at that point.
- 23:42Speaker 3: When I heard that from Elko, I was like, oh,
- 23:45Speaker 3: good God, because the A & M fan base is
- 23:49Speaker 3: about as loyal as it gets.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Like, I mean... They pack that stadium, and if they've
- 23:57Speaker 1: got nothing to show for that, nothing to show for it,
- 24:00Speaker 1: they still pack that stadium every Saturday.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Immediately when he said that, I thought, you're really upset
- 24:06Speaker 3: that you hired Holman Wiggins as your offensive coordinator. Don't
- 24:10Speaker 3: take it out on Billy's you know, message board. Cause
- 24:15Speaker 3: Billy will, you know, go to the ends of the
- 24:19Speaker 3: earth to, to back you up. As long as you
- 24:23Speaker 3: show him some respect and, you know, I mean, that guy's,
- 24:28Speaker 3: that guy's, locked in usually with all the leadership.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Well, I don't remember how sideways it got with you
- 24:35Speaker 2: and Jimmy and Jerry Jones, but you did report that
- 24:38Speaker 2: he got a facelift. I don't think he loved that
- 24:41Speaker 2: for the Dallas Morning News, but you had this working relationship.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I think it was, was it Bruce Dalrymple that used
- 24:47Speaker 2: to be their main guy?
- 24:49Speaker 3: Rich, Rich Dalrymple.
- 24:50Speaker 1: So go into that story a little bit if you can.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I mean, you know the importance of having a two-way
- 24:55Speaker 2: relationship with these guys, but that was an incredible story
- 24:58Speaker 2: back in the day.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I went to the Cowboys golf course.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Training camp was about to begin. I needed five minutes
- 25:07Speaker 3: with Jerry Jones for a salary cap story I was
- 25:11Speaker 3: working on. Rich Dalrymple was kind enough to carve that out,
- 25:16Speaker 3: but it was also the first time we'd seen Jerry
- 25:19Speaker 3: in months, and he had lost a ton of weight.
- 25:23Speaker 3: So I go in, and before I even start on
- 25:26Speaker 3: the salary cap questions, I'm like, God, Jerry, you look great.
- 25:30Speaker 3: how much weight have you lost? He's like 51 pounds.
- 25:35Speaker 1: And I was like, how'd you do it? And he's like, uh,
- 25:37Speaker 1: you know, not.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Eating nachos in the middle of the night, smaller plates,
- 25:42Speaker 3: smaller portions. And then I just blurted out, I don't
- 25:46Speaker 3: even know why, but probably because I was looking at him.
- 25:49Speaker 3: I said, sometimes when you lose that much weight, you,
- 25:52Speaker 3: you know, might do a little nip talk to kind
- 25:54Speaker 3: of clean things up. And he said, well, uh, I'll
- 26:00Speaker 3: never say, but I reserve the right. And then that
- 26:06Speaker 3: was it. I wrote a little story. The lead was
- 26:10Speaker 3: Jerry Jones has lost it. 51 pounds, you know, smaller plates.
- 26:15Speaker 3: And if he's had a little nip tuck to clean
- 26:18Speaker 3: things up, he's not saying, and I ran that quote
- 26:22Speaker 3: and I, And I thought it was going to be
- 26:24Speaker 3: a little note inside the Dallas Morning News. Instead, it
- 26:28Speaker 3: ran front page above the fold with a before and after.
- 26:33Speaker 3: It was all over the place. And he had his
- 26:35Speaker 3: State of the Union address to start training camp that
- 26:41Speaker 3: next day. So I come in and Rich Dalrymple is
- 26:44Speaker 3: just cussing.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Me up and down.
- 26:47Speaker 5: I mean, he's like, I get you time for a
- 26:50Speaker 5: salary cap story and this is how you do me,
- 26:53Speaker 5: you know, bleep you, bleep, you're off to a terrible start.
- 26:57Speaker 3: I'm like, is he mad? And Rich goes, I.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Don't know, but I'm mad.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And so we go to the press conference. Jerry's talking
- 27:07Speaker 3: about everything. He keeps looking at me. I think I'm dead.
- 27:11Speaker 3: He finishes the press conference. He comes over to me.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, this is it. And he says, Chip,
- 27:19Speaker 3: I just want to thank you. Thank you. for your sensitivity.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 27:26Speaker 3: And he walks off and I see his son, Steven,
- 27:30Speaker 3: you know, right behind him. I go, I go, is
- 27:32Speaker 3: he mad? And Steven's like, bleep. No, he's not mad.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Like you got it out there. He never has to
- 27:40Speaker 3: answer another question again. It's like over and done. And
- 27:45Speaker 3: I was like, so I went up to Rich Dalrymple.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I go, He thanked me.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, he thanked me.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Chip is with us, man. When Sark yesterday said that
- 28:01Speaker 1: if he had a different last name, we would be
- 28:04Speaker 1: treating Arch Manning differently. We'd perceive Arch Manning differently. When
- 28:09Speaker 1: you heard that yesterday, what did you make of that?
- 28:12Speaker 1: I mean, do you think we would look at Arch
- 28:14Speaker 1: Manning as successful if his last name wasn't Manning?
- 28:18Speaker 3: Well, I do think because his name is Manning, he
- 28:22Speaker 3: immediately went to the front of the line on these
- 28:25Speaker 3: expectation boards, Heisman trophy, NFL draft pick. I do think
- 28:32Speaker 3: that because of his last name, because there's precedent with
- 28:35Speaker 3: his uncles, the, you know, the part about what he's
- 28:41Speaker 3: done on the field, his numbers are, are pretty good. All, all,
- 28:47Speaker 3: all said, you know, I mean, his career numbers, like
- 28:50Speaker 3: at this point in their careers, he's right there with
- 28:54Speaker 3: Colt McCoy and, you know, Vince Young, whatever, after so
- 28:58Speaker 3: many starts, but this is a no excuses year for
- 29:03Speaker 3: Texas because of the talent they have because of the
- 29:08Speaker 3: talent they acquired in the portal. And because Arch Manning
- 29:13Speaker 3: has shown flashes of brilliance and, uh, And if you
- 29:17Speaker 3: look at the tape from the OU game, you'll see
- 29:20Speaker 3: plays where, what are you thinking? And he had two
- 29:27Speaker 3: fourth quarter interceptions against Florida last year. He was under siege.
- 29:34Speaker 3: This time against OU, he had two fourth quarter interceptions.
- 29:37Speaker 3: One was a pick six. The other one resulted in
- 29:40Speaker 3: the game winning field goal for OU. And we just
- 29:44Speaker 3: haven't seen that from him. Like he also threw unbelievable passes.
- 29:49Speaker 3: He was three for three on a seven play, 75
- 29:52Speaker 3: yard drive that tied the game 24, 24.
- 29:53Speaker 1: So I think there's this.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Like, when's it going to be a full game of
- 30:02Speaker 3: nothing but, you know, mastery from Arch Manning? I think
- 30:08Speaker 3: that's where we are because he played brilliantly to beat
- 30:11Speaker 3: Ohio State. Three straight double-digit drives against that defense, a
- 30:17Speaker 3: couple of fourth-down passes. You know, Mississippi State last year, like,
- 30:22Speaker 3: he's shown he has the clutch gene. What we saw
- 30:24Speaker 3: from him Saturday against Oklahoma was– a total contrast to that.
- 30:30Speaker 3: You know, he was the reason that, and terrible special teams,
- 30:35Speaker 3: but they got beat. He could, they were up 17
- 30:38Speaker 3: to seven at halftime. The defense had given up 13
- 30:41Speaker 3: points for the game. They could have taken a knee
- 30:44Speaker 3: and punted the whole second half and won the game,
- 30:46Speaker 3: but they made the big mistakes that allowed for non-offensive touchdowns.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Chip Brown is with us. Horns two, four, seven. When you,
- 30:57Speaker 1: How would you describe the Texas fan base right now
- 30:59Speaker 1: with both Arch and Steve Sarkeesian?
- 31:02Speaker 3: I mean, they're on edge because they just watched their
- 31:05Speaker 3: team lose a game they should have won.
- 31:08Speaker 1: That's the other thing.
- 31:09Speaker 3: We haven't seen this from Steve Sarkeesian since 2021 when
- 31:12Speaker 3: he went 5-7. He had double-digit leads against OU, Oklahoma State,
- 31:16Speaker 3: and Baylor that year, and they lost those games. But
- 31:22Speaker 3: you thought, okay, this is a team that knows how
- 31:25Speaker 3: to finish. This is a team that knows how to win.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Certainly it's a championship defense under Will Muschamp. And so
- 31:34Speaker 3: for that flashback to come up is why I think
- 31:37Speaker 3: the fan base is like totally on edge because you
- 31:41Speaker 3: got to beat the teams you're supposed to beat.
- 31:42Speaker 1: You're going to have enough.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Trouble with the teams that you're a, you know, a
- 31:46Speaker 3: pick them against.
- 31:47Speaker 2: So, Clay, I don't know why I called you Clay there, Chip. Chip,
- 31:51Speaker 2: we kind of discussed this a little bit yesterday. And
- 31:54Speaker 2: to me, this is interesting because we've seen it with
- 31:56Speaker 2: Ryan Day in Ohio State. We've seen it internally with Texas.
- 32:00Speaker 2: We saw it a little bit with Alabama, Jalen Milrow
- 32:03Speaker 2: to Ty Simpson. We thought that there was a chance
- 32:06Speaker 2: that Caleb Moore, such a nice guy, he wasn't going
- 32:08Speaker 2: to push Milrow out. Milrow decides to go on to
- 32:11Speaker 2: the NFL. Ty Simpson takes over. The rest is history.
- 32:14Speaker 2: it looks like Sark did kind of push Quinn Ewers
- 32:17Speaker 2: out for Arch, you know, for it to be able
- 32:20Speaker 2: to open up as his job. Again, Will Howard was
- 32:22Speaker 2: pushed out for Julian saying, is there anybody that is
- 32:25Speaker 2: pushing Arch?
- 32:26Speaker 1: Is it a possibility that even.
- 32:28Speaker 2: If Arch wants to come back to Texas next year,
- 32:31Speaker 2: he's not going to be Sark's guy?
- 32:34Speaker 3: Well, I, at this point, I, I can't see that,
- 32:39Speaker 3: but because I do think there's a lot of football
- 32:43Speaker 3: left to play. I mean, if Arch regresses and he becomes,
- 32:49Speaker 3: you know, the reason that they're not winning games, it's
- 32:53Speaker 3: going to get real uncomfortable. If he figures it out,
- 32:58Speaker 3: kind of like he did at the end of last season, then,
- 33:03Speaker 3: you know, as long, I mean, Sark's going to want
- 33:05Speaker 3: the quarterback who gives them the best chance to win.
- 33:08Speaker 3: And I think going into this year, there was a
- 33:11Speaker 3: sense that, well, there's no doubt that's Arch Manning. And so,
- 33:18Speaker 3: you know, you just don't want to open that door
- 33:22Speaker 3: because you need to keep progressing. I mean, the sign
- 33:25Speaker 3: of a well-coached team is week to week improvement. And
- 33:28Speaker 3: Steve Sarkeesian's side of the ball is not doing that.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Neither is special teams. And so, you know, everything's getting
- 33:37Speaker 3: questioned right now.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Is the pole assassin still alive?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:44Speaker 3: And she taught exotic dance moves. That's why she's called
- 33:49Speaker 3: the Pole Assassin.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah. We're aware. She lived at Tuscaloosa. We're aware. Well,
- 33:53Speaker 1: what was the monkey? I thought the monkey's name was
- 33:55Speaker 1: Pole Assassin. No, the monkey.
- 33:56Speaker 3: No, the monkey's name is Gia.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Gia.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Oh, see, I thought it was the other way around.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I thought the wife's name was Gia. No, she's the
- 34:03Speaker 1: Pole Assassin.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, okay. Is Gia still around?
- 34:09Speaker 3: As far as I know.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I don't think Chip frequents. I reserve the right.
- 34:17Speaker 3: That was a Halloween thing they did, and I'm sure
- 34:21Speaker 3: they regret it every single minute because Jeff Banks would
- 34:25Speaker 3: have been the Washington State head coach when Rolovich wouldn't
- 34:31Speaker 3: get vaccinated.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Remember that?
- 34:33Speaker 3: That's at Washington State. He would have been the guy,
- 34:36Speaker 3: but the monkey gate happened, and It took them off
- 34:42Speaker 3: the board.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Wow. Well, you cover a good beat, man. Monkey gate. Faceless.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Plastic surgery with owners. Hey, are you like me? Do
- 34:53Speaker 1: you believe all Texas has to do is go four
- 34:56Speaker 1: and two in these final six games and they're still
- 34:59Speaker 1: a playoff team? Three losses? At 93? Three losses? Yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 1: because they've got that win over Ohio State. Florida, Ole Miss,
- 35:05Speaker 1: Mississippi State, Missouri, LSU, A & M. 4-2 and Texas
- 35:09Speaker 1: is still probably in. Am I being too lenient there?
- 35:12Speaker 1: Does that make you nervous?
- 35:13Speaker 3: Well, I think they need to look good down the stretch.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I think they have to beat Florida and Ole Miss
- 35:21Speaker 3: at home because you're probably going to have at Missouri,
- 35:27Speaker 3: at LSU. Those look like trouble spots to me. And
- 35:32Speaker 3: then playing at A & M, that game is just
- 35:37Speaker 3: a different deal so um maybe maybe nine and three
- 35:43Speaker 3: gets them in with that win over Ohio State but
- 35:46Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to chance.
- 35:49Speaker 1: It hey do you um listen I think Sark's one
- 35:52Speaker 1: of the great play callers of all time great minds
- 35:54Speaker 1: and offensive minds are you aware that they're like 17
- 35:57Speaker 1: spots behind Iowa in total offense right now.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah it's bad and it was bad they couldn't run
- 36:04Speaker 3: the ball last year And they go out and get
- 36:07Speaker 3: Hollywood Smothers and Relique Brown and this stud freshman, Derek Cooper.
- 36:13Speaker 3: And they're still struggling to run the ball. And Sark's
- 36:18Speaker 3: got to commit to it. It's got to be a mindset.
- 36:21Speaker 3: And I don't, that's troubling.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Chip Brown, 247horns247. com. Chip, thank you very much for the time, buddy.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Always good to catch up with you.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Appreciate y'all.
- 36:34Speaker 1: He thanked me. He thanked me. He thanked me. Chip
- 36:37Speaker 1: with us talking some Texas football and Arch Manning and
- 36:40Speaker 1: Steve Sarkisian. Hey, a reminder, XXXY Athletics, founded by Jennifer Say,
- 36:45Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president, who decided
- 36:49Speaker 1: to walk away from a corporate job rather than say
- 36:51Speaker 1: something she didn't believe in. When she walked away, she
- 36:53Speaker 1: started XXXY Athletics instead. Here is their mission and their words.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.
- 37:01Speaker 1: So they have the tee that launched a movement. Also,
- 37:05Speaker 1: they've got official Nashville balls gear. Clay Travis future WNBA franchise.
- 37:09Speaker 1: You get it right there. The tees and trucker hats
- 37:11Speaker 1: out now. We are talking real athletic apparel, not just
- 37:14Speaker 1: a slogan on a shirt. Performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 37:18Speaker 1: training sets. Plus hoodies, hats, graphic tees, men's and women's.
- 37:23Speaker 1: This is worn by athletes who've actually put something on
- 37:25Speaker 1: the line. And right now, new customers get 20% off
- 37:28Speaker 1: your first order when you sign up. Free shipping on
- 37:30Speaker 1: anything over $ 100. xxxyathletics.com. That is xx-xyathletics.com. Here's Steve Sarkeesian
- 37:40Speaker 1: making that comment. And this surprises me that what Chip
- 37:44Speaker 1: just said, that Arch is on the same trajectory as
- 37:47Speaker 1: Colt McCoy. On the number of starts and all that,
- 37:50Speaker 1: here's what Sark was talking about yesterday.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Arch, in terms of his processing, how would you assess
- 37:57Speaker 3: what he's seeing right now at this point in his career?
- 38:02Speaker 3: And if his name wasn't.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Manning, would it be.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Not all these incredible expectations on him and him getting
- 38:11Speaker 3: compared to being a first-round draft pick?
- 38:14Speaker 1: You know, I think that he's processing fine.
- 38:16Speaker 6: You know, again, I think playing really good offensive football
- 38:20Speaker 6: is all 11. Playing 11 is one.
- 38:22Speaker 3: I think it's scheme.
- 38:24Speaker 6: I think it's the momentum of the game. I think
- 38:27Speaker 6: if you took the name off the back of his
- 38:29Speaker 6: jersey and you said, here's Joe Smith playing quarterback at
- 38:34Speaker 6: the University of Texas, and here's a guy who's beaten
- 38:38Speaker 6: four top 10 ranked teams in his last 13 starts
- 38:40Speaker 6: in we'd be praising the guy. But the expectations are
- 38:44Speaker 6: high for him. But he understands that. The expectations are
- 38:47Speaker 6: high for all of us. So we've got to put
- 38:49Speaker 6: our nose back to the grind and get back to work. Okay.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm glad you played that. Number one, I did not
- 38:53Speaker 1: know Chip asked the question. So that quote came out
- 38:56Speaker 1: during our interview with Klatt, and I just read it
- 38:58Speaker 1: from on three's report of it. And the only part
- 39:01Speaker 1: they shared was Steve Sarkisian says if his last name
- 39:03Speaker 1: weren't Manning. I did not know Chip had planted that
- 39:06Speaker 1: in the question too, though. That's right. Like, I mean,
- 39:09Speaker 1: Chip point blank asked Sark, You know, is the last
- 39:13Speaker 1: name Manning skewing the way we judge this guy? So
- 39:16Speaker 1: that's why Sark brought that into the answer. I thought
- 39:19Speaker 1: Sark just independently said, hey, look, if this kid's last
- 39:22Speaker 1: name were Joe Smith instead of Manning, yeah we'd be
- 39:26Speaker 1: judging him totally and true a little bit of that
- 39:28Speaker 1: is true Lance uh one he probably wouldn't be the
- 39:30Speaker 1: starter anymore because you know he's not maybe performing up
- 39:34Speaker 1: to um maybe they got somebody better I don't know
- 39:37Speaker 1: but there is a different amount of expectations we do
- 39:40Speaker 1: put on him because of his last name that we
- 39:42Speaker 1: projected him to be a Heisman Trophy winner from, you know, birth.
- 39:46Speaker 1: There is no doubt about that.
- 39:48Speaker 2: But the way Sark answered it was completely wrong because
- 39:52Speaker 2: the fact of the matter is Texas, the expectation is more.
- 39:55Speaker 1: You've got to have better quarterback play there. And I
- 39:57Speaker 1: go back to Quinn Ewers.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I never saw Quinn Ewers really develop and progress as
- 40:02Speaker 2: a quarterback.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I mean, I thought he was a solid college quarterback.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Did he ever get better, though? I don't know. I
- 40:08Speaker 1: don't watch every snap of Texas, but I didn't feel
- 40:11Speaker 1: like it.
- 40:11Speaker 2: He felt like the same quarterback from when we saw him.
- 40:13Speaker 2: I thought he was a good, solid quarterback. I thought
- 40:15Speaker 2: he was a little bit better than Arch, especially throwing
- 40:17Speaker 2: the football. Arch, really, there was a progression during the
- 40:21Speaker 2: season last year, but where that ended, it's fallen off
- 40:25Speaker 2: since then.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Klatt said it yesterday that Arch and Quinn are a
- 40:31Speaker 1: lot alike. They both really threw the deep ball really
- 40:34Speaker 1: well and struggled on some other throws. You guys tell
- 40:37Speaker 1: me this.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I am looking at quarterback rating through five games in
- 40:40Speaker 2: the SEC. The only quarterbacks that are worse, Faison Brandon,
- 40:45Speaker 2: which he's not even a starter anymore.
- 40:47Speaker 1: He got benched. Okay.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers. Jared Curtis has been back and forth, so
- 40:51Speaker 2: I'm not even going to count him. Lenore Sellers, Byron Brown,
- 40:54Speaker 2: KJ Jackson, and Marcel Reed. Mateer, Leavitt, Minchie, Philo, all
- 40:59Speaker 2: those other guys have better quarterback ratings than Arch.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Arch has been a very, very, he hasn't been bad,
- 41:04Speaker 1: he's been average.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And that's not good enough if you want to win
- 41:08Speaker 2: a national championship at Texas.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I mean, that's bad company. You just put them in
- 41:12Speaker 1: some pretty bad company there. I mean, none of those
- 41:14Speaker 1: quarterbacks have played well. John Mateer's quarterback rating is higher.
- 41:17Speaker 3: I mean.
- 41:17Speaker 4: It is.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I've got a. Touchdown to interception ratio, exact same. Between
- 41:24Speaker 1: Mateer and Arch.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Yep.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I mean, Arch did throw two Saturday. Who do you
- 41:27Speaker 1: think is completing? I got a better completion percentage. Since
- 41:32Speaker 1: you asked, Mateer. Mateer, 67%. Arch, 63%. Oh, they did
- 41:34Speaker 1: that on, were you watching game day when they did it?
- 41:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys watch game day Saturday,
- 41:38Speaker 1: but they did the blind, you don't know who the
- 41:40Speaker 1: quarterbacks are, and you say, which one would you take?
- 41:42Speaker 1: And I can't remember who was on the board at
- 41:44Speaker 1: the time. Might have been Herbstreet. It's the one where
- 41:47Speaker 1: they got the pointy stick and they point, and it's like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: it's a silhouette of the quarterbacks, and it's got their
- 41:52Speaker 1: completion percentage, yards, touchdown, interception. That's the four categories. And
- 41:56Speaker 1: it said, which one would you take? And Herbstree's like, ah,
- 41:58Speaker 1: they're kind of a lot alike. I guess I'd take
- 41:59Speaker 1: this one. Boom, it pops up, and it's Arch and Mateer.
- 42:02Speaker 1: And everybody on the panel's like, I am stunned the
- 42:04Speaker 1: numbers are that close. That's right. Stop. Yeah, it's that.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Stop.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you just go completion percentage, Byron Brown's
- 42:11Speaker 2: got a better completion percentage. The only ones worse, full-time starters,
- 42:15Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers, KJ Jackson, Marcel Reese.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Well, I would say watching them play, at times, Sark
- 42:21Speaker 1: doesn't do a lot to to help his completion percentage
- 42:25Speaker 1: and throw some short passes. They do force the ball
- 42:27Speaker 1: down the field a lot more than some teams. They
- 42:30Speaker 1: don't really set him up to succeed early on.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I mean, they do go downfield a lot. He's just
- 42:36Speaker 2: not good at the second and third reads.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I'm just saying, when you've got Wingo and Cam Coleman,
- 42:43Speaker 1: they seem to be trying to hit home runs all
- 42:45Speaker 1: the time. They don't get in there and throw– the
- 42:49Speaker 1: easy passes that would matriculate the ball down the field.
- 42:52Speaker 1: They try to hit you with a 50-yard pass. This
- 42:54Speaker 1: is easy hindsight, but at the end of that game
- 42:56Speaker 1: in regulation, if you're Sark, all you've got to do
- 42:58Speaker 1: is get that game in overtime.
- 43:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Well, you heard Chip, though, say when they were 17-7,
- 43:03Speaker 1: basically they just walked out and punted every time they
- 43:06Speaker 1: were going in. It really was.
- 43:07Speaker 2: You know, special teams didn't get talked enough about in
- 43:10Speaker 2: that game. I know we talked about it a lot
- 43:11Speaker 2: about Monday Night Football last night, but not nearly enough
- 43:14Speaker 2: in that.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I mean, that was the difference. Totally the difference. When
- 43:18Speaker 1: we come back, John Summerall, speaking of Billy Sespul and Elko,
- 43:24Speaker 1: walking back his comments, John Summerall has an interesting comment.
- 43:28Speaker 1: We'll do our SEC power ratings, and if you'll get
- 43:30Speaker 1: your little paddle, give me a stock up, stock down
- 43:32Speaker 1: in college football right now, not just in the SEC.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Just a stock up, stock down. All that coming up.
- 43:37Speaker 1: as we roll on here on the next round presented
- 43:39Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. Back with you
- 43:41Speaker 1: on Sporting State, Jim Dunaway and Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Brooks is at SEC Basketball Media Days today. Forrester and
- 43:49Speaker 1: Tyler behind the big glass. Forrester working hard on his
- 43:52Speaker 1: AI animation coming up next hour. We will do our
- 43:54Speaker 1: upset alert where everybody's really hot right now. Speaking of
- 43:57Speaker 1: really hot, before LT tells us about Clay Travis Law,
- 44:02Speaker 1: Florida was really hot. They were the talk of the country.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Then he lost to Missouri. Then they lost to South Carolina.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Here is head coach John Summerall yesterday.
- 44:10Speaker 7: The thing I love, Zach, we have freaking passionate, awesome fans.
- 44:17Speaker 7: Why you come to the University of Florida is because
- 44:18Speaker 7: people care. They get the right to boo.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 44:21Speaker 7: I like when they're not booed, but I'm not going
- 44:23Speaker 7: to sit there and take my headset off and go,
- 44:25Speaker 7: are they booing or are they cheering? We're going to
- 44:27Speaker 7: do everything we can to try to win the game.
- 44:29Speaker 7: I love that our fans care enough to boo.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Good.
- 44:33Speaker 7: I'd rather them the stands be full and then be
- 44:36Speaker 7: passionate and pissed off. If something's not going good, then like,
- 44:39Speaker 7: I don't want them to applaud when we're not playing well.
- 44:41Speaker 7: Like we do need their support. We need them to
- 44:44Speaker 7: like be behind the guys. It'd be going back to
- 44:46Speaker 7: the confidence question broadcast. You know, I think our guys,
- 44:49Speaker 7: I would say, I don't want to say we're fragile,
- 44:51Speaker 7: but I think we're trying to find ourselves from a
- 44:52Speaker 7: confidence standpoint. Maybe when things are in question, it'd be
- 44:55Speaker 7: helpful if everybody's like, man, let's go. We got this.
- 44:59Speaker 7: The guys feed off the crowd.
- 45:00Speaker 1: They do.
- 45:01Speaker 7: But you know, I'm not, I love that our fans
- 45:05Speaker 7: care enough to boo as well. So there's a balance there.
- 45:09Speaker 7: I'm not going to take a shot at our fan base.
- 45:10Speaker 7: We've got a freaking awesome fan base, man.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Do you see what he said about his son? He said,
- 45:15Speaker 1: I got a text from my son and the text
- 45:17Speaker 1: after the loss to South Carolina and the text just said,
- 45:20Speaker 1: I don't know if this is forgivable.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Woo!
- 45:23Speaker 4: Wow.
- 45:23Speaker 1: How old's the kid? I don't know. He's fairly young.
- 45:26Speaker 1: It's a younger kid. Yeah, I mean, but this is
- 45:28Speaker 1: the same son that the times Summerall has been on
- 45:31Speaker 1: our show. He talks about, I don't take it easy
- 45:33Speaker 1: on him when we play basketball. That's right. He's never
- 45:35Speaker 1: beaten me. 13?
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:36Speaker 1: He's never beaten me. He's never beaten me. There's a
- 45:38Speaker 1: scoreboard for a reason. He's got to learn. There's a
- 45:40Speaker 1: scoreboard for a reason. So, hey. The kid has learned, obviously.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I don't know if this is forgivable. He said that's
- 45:47Speaker 1: all it said.
- 45:47Speaker 2: You guys remind me, we are in a different era
- 45:50Speaker 2: in everything. And people are a lot more negative than
- 45:54Speaker 2: they used to be. But I don't remember a coach
- 45:57Speaker 2: that it has swung that fast in year one to
- 46:00Speaker 2: get boos.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I mean, I think that's just where we are.
- 46:04Speaker 1: You boo. The first time I've gone as a fan forever,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I booed that referee the rest of the game. I mean,
- 46:11Speaker 1: if I'd have been at the other end, I may
- 46:13Speaker 1: have thrown my water bottle. That's the ref.
- 46:15Speaker 2: I'm trying to recall because, again, my freshman year was
- 46:17Speaker 2: Gene Stallings' first year.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Oh, he got booed. And they started 0-3. I don't remember. Oh,
- 46:21Speaker 1: they booed that offense all the time. Now, this was
- 46:25Speaker 1: more midseason, but I remember that year going to the
- 46:28Speaker 1: Bama-Penn State game, which was, I think, 9-0 Penn State
- 46:32Speaker 1: or something like that. And I remember, yeah. Lots of booze.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Clay Travis Law, and then we'll do our SEC power
- 46:38Speaker 1: ratings and our stock report. Hey, accidents do not wait
- 46:42Speaker 1: for a good time. One bad moment, a wreck, a fall.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly you're fighting an
- 46:46Speaker 2: insurance company that does this every single day. That's why
- 46:49Speaker 2: our friend Clay started Clay Travis Law, built a firm
- 46:51Speaker 2: around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 46:54Speaker 2: ask those hard questions, and push back when things don't
- 46:57Speaker 2: add up. Experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight to
- 46:59Speaker 2: corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 47:04Speaker 2: They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and southern grit. Car
- 47:08Speaker 2: and truck wrecks, ride share accidents, medical malpractice, product liability.
- 47:12Speaker 2: If you were wrong, they want to hear about it.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Here's what they promise.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Honesty.
- 47:15Speaker 2: They're not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to
- 47:17Speaker 2: hear what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.
- 47:19Speaker 2: The case evaluation is free. No charge, no pressure, no hassle.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Just tell them your story. Go to ClayTravisLaw.com or call 877-222-4444.
- 47:25Speaker 2: That's ClayTravisLaw.com.
- 47:27Speaker 1: No case. Too big or too small? Every week, Scott, Brooks,
- 47:34Speaker 1: and the three of us throw in our vote on
- 47:37Speaker 1: the SEC. We rank 1 through 16. It's a weekly
- 47:40Speaker 1: power rating, and it has changed a lot. We just
- 47:43Speaker 1: played you John Summerall. We throw all these together and tabulate.
- 47:47Speaker 1: It's the reverse, just like the AP polls, 16 points
- 47:50Speaker 1: if you're 1, 15, 2, and on down the list.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Here's our SEC power rating going into week 7, six
- 47:56Speaker 1: weeks into this thing. Georgia 1, Alabama 2. Ole Miss 3,
- 48:01Speaker 1: Kentucky 4, Texas is 5, Missouri 6, Mississippi State 7,
- 48:06Speaker 1: LSU 8, Oklahoma 9, Tennessee 10, Florida has dropped to 11.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? South Carolina is 12, A &
- 48:14Speaker 1: M is 13, Auburn 14, Vandy 15, Arkansas is at 16,
- 48:20Speaker 1: which we call that the hog slop there at 16.
- 48:24Speaker 1: You guys, where'd y'all have Florida? Well, okay.
- 48:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I'm just wondering. No, no, I had Florida 11th. I
- 48:30Speaker 1: had Florida 12th. 11th and 12th. I mean, they just
- 48:33Speaker 1: got smoked by South Carolina, and somehow I had them
- 48:35Speaker 1: still in front of South Carolina, which is probably an
- 48:37Speaker 1: oversight on my part. I had them 10th, so we
- 48:39Speaker 1: had them 10th, 11th, and 12th. See, I had South
- 48:42Speaker 1: Carolina in front. I mean, I just saw it. I know,
- 48:44Speaker 1: I know.
- 48:45Speaker 2: That was an error on my part. Yeah, here's what
- 48:48Speaker 2: I would say. To me, after the first maybe four teams,
- 48:52Speaker 2: because we talked about this with Klatt yesterday, Missouri, to me,
- 48:55Speaker 2: the fourth best team right now.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Where do we have Missouri? We have Missouri 6th. I mean,
- 49:00Speaker 1: that answered my question. I wonder what you guys were
- 49:02Speaker 1: going to do with Kentucky because I had Kentucky 4th,
- 49:05Speaker 1: and I was like, I bet I've got them higher
- 49:06Speaker 1: than everyone else. You don't. I have them 3rd. In
- 49:08Speaker 1: the aggregate, you got them in front of Ole Miss.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I did, yeah. I got them 8th. You have Kentucky 8th? Yeah.
- 49:14Speaker 3: 8th.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Who do you have in front of you? I saw
- 49:16Speaker 1: Kentucky down 17 to South Carolina. Yeah, did they win?
- 49:19Speaker 1: They did. On the road. I've got them. I saw
- 49:23Speaker 1: Texas up 17-7 on Oklahoma. Oklahoma. I've got Oklahoma in
- 49:27Speaker 1: front of Kentucky.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Well, I mean, we're going to see it Saturday, and
- 49:30Speaker 1: I think Oklahoma's going to win. I mean, I had Georgia, Alabama.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Those are easy one, two. I think Ole Miss is
- 49:36Speaker 1: easy three. I agree.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I personally think Missouri's kind of easy four. I had
- 49:40Speaker 2: Texas five. Mississippi State six. Oklahoma seven. Kentucky eight. LSU nine.
- 49:46Speaker 2: South Carolina ten. Tennessee 11. Florida 12. A & M 13.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Auburn 14. 15 and 16 are really easy.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Yeah, 15 and 16 are locked in, and they play Saturday. See, I...
- 49:57Speaker 1: I had Oklahoma ahead of Texas. I had Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky,
- 50:02Speaker 1: Ole Miss, Missouri 5, Mississippi State, more on Camario later
- 50:06Speaker 1: in the show, Oklahoma 7, Texas 8, Tennessee 9, Florida 10,
- 50:11Speaker 1: LSU 11.
- 50:13Speaker 2: I still think Texas is better than Oklahoma. Why I
- 50:16Speaker 2: had them in front, I know we just saw it.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I mean, the better team did not win that game.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Would y'all have LSU? I had LSU at 9. 8. 8.
- 50:26Speaker 1: 11 for me. They're middle of the pack. Yeah, they're
- 50:28Speaker 1: definitely middle of the pack team. I had South Carolina
- 50:31Speaker 1: ahead of Auburn. Yeah. Oh, I did too. I mean,
- 50:34Speaker 1: South Carolina just went and won at Florida. I mean,
- 50:36Speaker 1: I've got Auburn 14. Where do you have Auburn?
- 50:39Speaker 3: 14.
- 50:39Speaker 1: 13 for me.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:40Speaker 1: I have Auburn ahead of Texas A & M. I don't,
- 50:43Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't want to watch it.
- 50:47Speaker 7: All right.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Let's do our stock report today. This is the next round.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I'll start us off here. Stock down, stock up. Real easy.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Stock down. Stock down. Big budget teams. This is payroll city.
- 50:59Speaker 1: We're watching the Dodgers in Major League Baseball. They're down
- 51:03Speaker 1: 2-0 to a team that's a third of their salary,
- 51:06Speaker 1: and the American League have even less budget than that.
- 51:09Speaker 1: But big budget teams. Think of this. LSU, one of
- 51:12Speaker 1: the biggest in the country. Oregon, one of the biggest
- 51:15Speaker 1: in the country. Texas, one of the biggest in the
- 51:17Speaker 1: country coming off of a bad loss. There's some big
- 51:19Speaker 1: budget teams that are falling flat right now. So big
- 51:22Speaker 1: budget teams. Meanwhile, you have Kentucky, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Utah, Houston,
- 51:31Speaker 1: the under 25 million crowd playing some pretty good football.
- 51:35Speaker 1: So big budget teams. Our top 25 is out of whack.
- 51:39Speaker 2: I mean, when you really think about it, because you
- 51:41Speaker 2: never considered now when you saw the new stadium, you're
- 51:44Speaker 2: like in the new venue for Northwest and you're like, damn,
- 51:46Speaker 2: they do have some money. $ 23 million in their roster,
- 51:49Speaker 2: by the way. If I just would have told you
- 51:50Speaker 2: right here, like you don't consider this coming into the season,
- 51:53Speaker 2: if I would have told you middle of October, Northwestern's ranked,
- 51:56Speaker 2: Wake Forest is ranked, Oklahoma State is ranked, Iowa's ranked,
- 51:59Speaker 2: Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, UCLA.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I mean, it sounds insane. Yeah, insanity. And that gets
- 52:08Speaker 1: me to my stock up. College football drama. I'm going
- 52:12Speaker 1: to say something very embarrassing out loud here. everybody knew
- 52:16Speaker 1: I grew up an Alabama fan, so I'll go as
- 52:17Speaker 1: a fan. It's a loss where Alabama actually didn't drop
- 52:22Speaker 1: in the AP poll. A lot of people around the
- 52:24Speaker 1: country are saying that, hey, I think better of Alabama now.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Klatt said it on her show yesterday. I mean, I
- 52:32Speaker 1: was up until the wee hours of the morning. It
- 52:34Speaker 1: was sort of a doldrum on Sunday that Alabama lost
- 52:37Speaker 1: that game. On Monday, I came in here and I
- 52:40Speaker 1: did the show and I went home. And my mind
- 52:43Speaker 1: has been on that game so bad. And I'm so
- 52:45Speaker 1: concerned about as we go to 12 teams, will these
- 52:48Speaker 1: games still matter? My mind was still on that game
- 52:50Speaker 1: so much that my wife was like, hey, what are
- 52:53Speaker 1: we going to do with Carter's birthday? And I was like,
- 52:56Speaker 1: when's Carter's birthday? That's my son, if you're new to
- 52:58Speaker 1: the show. It's Tuesday. Happy birthday, Carter. Oh, it's today.
- 53:03Speaker 1: I knew it on Friday that Carter's birthday was on Tuesday.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Maybe your stock should be known. I forgot it on Saturday, Sunday.
- 53:13Speaker 1: I only get 12 games a year, though. That's right.
- 53:16Speaker 1: But the drama hasn't gone away yet. Clatt used the
- 53:20Speaker 1: phrase moral victory. I don't think any Alabama fans looking
- 53:22Speaker 1: at this as a moral victory. None. Alabama fans don't
- 53:24Speaker 1: have those. Moral victories never existed in Alabama football ever.
- 53:29Speaker 1: And I know I'm not taking a shot at clad.
- 53:31Speaker 1: He was trying to find the proper way of describing this.
- 53:33Speaker 1: And even he said, I don't want to say moral victory, but.
- 53:36Speaker 1: But I agree with that. I feel better about Alabama
- 53:38Speaker 1: as I left the stadium. It's not a moral victory.
- 53:40Speaker 1: It's just that I think a lot of Alabama fans wondered,
- 53:43Speaker 1: can Kalen DeBoer's style go toe-to-toe with the team like Georgia?
- 53:49Speaker 1: They did it in Athens last year, won the game.
- 53:51Speaker 1: They did it in Tuscaloosa this year, barely lost the game.
- 53:56Speaker 1: So I think you look at it and you're like,
- 53:57Speaker 1: we're toe-to-toe with the best program in the SEC.
- 53:59Speaker 2: I think the thing that excites you, unless something horribly
- 54:01Speaker 2: goes wrong, like a significant catastrophic injury, you lose to
- 54:06Speaker 2: teams you shouldn't lose to, you're going to be in
- 54:08Speaker 2: the postseason. And now you've seen it against probably the
- 54:11Speaker 2: best team in college football. You should have probably won
- 54:14Speaker 2: that game. So talking to an Alabama fan yesterday, he said,
- 54:18Speaker 2: I would have been devastated. That game would have ruined
- 54:19Speaker 2: my week. But now where we are with the 12-team playoff,
- 54:23Speaker 2: you know, you can survive these kinds of things, which
- 54:25Speaker 2: is true.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I wanted it. I think I wanted it for Kalen
- 54:28Speaker 1: to bore a lot because I know he has to
- 54:30Speaker 1: put up a lot of crap. And I feel like
- 54:32Speaker 1: with the ESPN Saban documentary out right now and, you know,
- 54:36Speaker 1: you start watching and reliving it all, it would have
- 54:39Speaker 1: been a good week. And it was good of Nick.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I don't know if it's on game day.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Nick.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Oh, this is his team. Put his arm around. This
- 54:44Speaker 1: is his team. He's doing a great job. And Saban
- 54:47Speaker 1: doing everything he can to make it easier on Kalen DeBoer.
- 54:49Speaker 1: That win the other night would have been really good.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Even in a loss where Alabama sits right now at 5-1, No.
- 54:55Speaker 2: 6 nationally, if you don't know this, then you're blind
- 55:01Speaker 2: or you're just completely against him. From year one to
- 55:04Speaker 2: year two, it was an improvement. From last year to
- 55:06Speaker 2: this year, this year's team is so much better than
- 55:09Speaker 2: last year's team.
- 55:10Speaker 1: They really are.
- 55:10Speaker 2: So, like, the progression is there. This team can legitimately
- 55:14Speaker 2: win a national championship.
- 55:16Speaker 1: What do you have there? Stock up, Jamal Roberts.
- 55:20Speaker 2: I mean, this guy, we talked about Ahmad Hardy, you know,
- 55:22Speaker 2: maybe the best running back outside of Kiwan Lacy that
- 55:25Speaker 2: would have been coming back but gets the gunshot at
- 55:27Speaker 2: the concert. Jamal Roberts comes in over 700 yards last
- 55:31Speaker 2: year as a backup.
- 55:32Speaker 1: He leads the SEC.
- 55:33Speaker 2: In rushing right now with over 800 yards. He's gone
- 55:35Speaker 2: back-to-back 200-yard games. He has been completely dominant.
- 55:39Speaker 1: How come we never say system running back? We always
- 55:42Speaker 1: say system quarterback. It does feel like they've got a system, though,
- 55:45Speaker 1: doesn't it? I mean, at Missouri, is it not system
- 55:47Speaker 1: running back? Eli Drinkwitz, whatever they do there at Missouri,
- 55:50Speaker 1: they run the damn football. You could say that.
- 55:52Speaker 2: I still want to give the senior a lot of
- 55:54Speaker 2: credit because he does have 828 yards and back-to-back 200-yard
- 55:58Speaker 2: games and five touchdowns over his last couple of weeks. Jetfish,
- 56:01Speaker 2: this is so easy. You've got three consecutive losses now.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Now you're missing your quarterback. DeMond Williams is not going
- 56:06Speaker 2: to be there. You're an underdog to Purdue. Purdue, like,
- 56:11Speaker 2: went two years without winning a game in the Big Ten,
- 56:13Speaker 2: and now they're favored over Washington, who's lost three consecutive games,
- 56:16Speaker 2: and the losses are getting worse.
- 56:19Speaker 1: Y'all remember, I said it on the air, right, as
- 56:21Speaker 1: the season was starting. And he's very unlikable.
- 56:23Speaker 3: He is.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I had a friend who is close inside the circle
- 56:27Speaker 1: at Purdue that said it was their best camp, and
- 56:29Speaker 1: I think I took him week one or week two
- 56:31Speaker 1: in upset alert.
- 56:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I think it was week two I took him in
- 56:33Speaker 1: upset alert, and they let me down. They're not bad, right, Brown?
- 56:36Speaker 1: They're not bad, yep. Not you. Great quarterback name.
- 56:39Speaker 2: He is a really good, solid college quarterback. Barry Odom's
- 56:42Speaker 2: obviously a guy that can coach.
- 56:44Speaker 1: My phone started blowing up. You were at the game. Oh,
- 56:46Speaker 1: I know. Replay official was Ryan Brown. The first replay,
- 56:49Speaker 1: they're like, our replay official back in Birmingham is Ryan Brown.
- 56:51Speaker 1: You did a crappy job, by the way. You did
- 56:54Speaker 1: a crappy job. That was not an interception. How did
- 56:56Speaker 1: you not review that targeting, Ryan Brown? Fowler says it,
- 56:59Speaker 1: and I was like, did he just say Ryan Brown?
- 57:01Speaker 1: And like 20 seconds later, I got 50 tags. I'm like,
- 57:04Speaker 1: clearly he did.
- 57:04Speaker 2: You know what?
- 57:05Speaker 1: To show you, I mean, I'm the worst fan in
- 57:07Speaker 1: the world. I hate to admit this. Somebody offered me
- 57:09Speaker 1: their wife if it's a key play and overturn it.
- 57:11Speaker 1: I promise you that was offered to me. During the
- 57:15Speaker 1: two-minute warning timeout, I was so upset at the guy
- 57:18Speaker 1: with B on the back of his jersey. The back judge.
- 57:21Speaker 1: The back judge. I went and looked up his name
- 57:23Speaker 1: on the game notes. Oh, wow. And that's where I
- 57:26Speaker 1: saw Ryan Brown was the replay official. Fowler says it
- 57:28Speaker 1: on the first, as clear as day, too. Like, my
- 57:31Speaker 1: family's downstairs. They all look at me. I'm like, I mean,
- 57:34Speaker 1: I've never heard. We go to replay. I'll need you
- 57:36Speaker 1: all to be quiet. That's right. I've got to concentrate.
- 57:38Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 57:38Speaker 1: I was hoping it was like every other conference. All right.
- 57:41Speaker 1: Here's what we got here, Johnny.
- 57:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 57:42Speaker 1: We've got a, by the way, SEC's got to do that.
- 57:45Speaker 1: Everybody's doing it now. my stock up is all things
- 57:50Speaker 1: oregon state who's the uh leading passer in the country
- 57:53Speaker 1: uh it's a quarterback at oregon state uh brennan atchison
- 57:56Speaker 1: atchison who's the leading receiver in the country jesse legree
- 58:00Speaker 1: everybody else in the world would say one guy jeremiah
- 58:04Speaker 1: smith jesse legree's got him in every statistical category it's
- 58:07Speaker 1: crazy what this guy's doing as a They've given out
- 58:11Speaker 1: the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the new Pac-12. Yeah.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Freshman of the Week six times now. You know how
- 58:16Speaker 1: many times Jesse's won it? Five. All six. All six. Yeah.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Just keep giving it to him. The numbers are getting bigger, though.
- 58:22Speaker 1: They're insane. Like 200-yard games the last couple of games,
- 58:25Speaker 1: double-digit receptions. Yeah.
- 58:27Speaker 2: And when you watch the kid, he's so slight. He's
- 58:30Speaker 2: like 170 pounds. He almost looks like a bobblehead with
- 58:33Speaker 2: the helmet.
- 58:33Speaker 1: He's had a touchdown in every game. Two games he's
- 58:37Speaker 1: had one touchdown. I think two games he's had two touchdowns,
- 58:39Speaker 1: and two games he's had three touchdowns. Hey, and this
- 58:41Speaker 1: is the dirty side of football, but I'm just going
- 58:43Speaker 1: to say it out loud. If you've got a job opening,
- 58:46Speaker 1: do you go to Jamarcus Shepard and say, can you
- 58:48Speaker 1: bring those two with you? Yeah. Well, that's basically what–
- 58:52Speaker 1: Drew Mestemaker and his coach from North Texas to Oklahoma State.
- 58:55Speaker 1: And it's working for Oklahoma State, by the way.
- 58:57Speaker 3: It is.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I mean, that could be great for Jamarcus Shepard. Stockdown
- 59:00Speaker 1: is Vandy, and primarily it's Vandy's defense. I should point
- 59:04Speaker 1: out real quickly before you move on from Jamarcus Shepard,
- 59:06Speaker 1: they don't have to go far from Corvallis to Seattle, Washington,
- 59:09Speaker 1: where Jamarcus is. Shepard was part of the Kalen DeBoer.
- 59:11Speaker 4: Staff, right?
- 59:11Speaker 1: That is correct, yes. Yeah, he came to Bama from Washington.
- 59:15Speaker 1: You're saying if Jeff Fish gets fired. Boy, could you
- 59:17Speaker 1: imagine bringing– Did you see his paddle? Oh, I did.
- 59:20Speaker 1: It's right. Unlikable and going downhill. Vandy's defense is where
- 59:24Speaker 1: it's really slipping.
- 59:25Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 59:26Speaker 1: They're in the hundreds in scoring defense in the country.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Can't tackle. They're in the bottom half of the SEC
- 59:30Speaker 1: in every meaningful defensive category. We talk about that final
- 59:34Speaker 1: play against NC State and one of the worst beats,
- 59:36Speaker 1: probably the worst beat I've ever been involved with.
- 59:39Speaker 2: But if that game, they were dominating that game. They
- 59:42Speaker 2: were up double digits the majority of that game. If
- 59:44Speaker 2: you take that away and that's a loss for Vanderbilt,
- 59:47Speaker 2: it even looks worse.
- 59:48Speaker 1: I know. That was a That was a gift of
- 59:50Speaker 1: a win. And people are going to say they're not
- 59:52Speaker 1: the same without Diego Pavia. It's not that side of
- 59:55Speaker 1: the ball. It's the other side of the ball. Great observation.
- 59:58Speaker 1: They're figuring out quarterback, but it's where they've slipped the
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: most is on defense. Yeah, well, they shouldn't figure it
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: out too long because you hate to say this, and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I know Mississippi State fans got upset when we started
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: talking about Camario Taylor's future. Jared Curtis, who chose Vanderbilt
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: over Georgia to start with.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Would you hang around if you were Jerry Curtis? It'd
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: be tough. It'd be really tough. It'd be tough. And
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I think he's going to be really good. Because you
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: know what's about to happen is the excitement's going to
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: die down. They play Arkansas Saturday. They'll be, what's that
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: place hold?
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: 38, 45.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: There'll be 25,000 people there. They've When they play Alabama
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: in November, Alabama will have more fans there than they do.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: So all of a sudden, you're going to be like,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: this is old Vandy. I committed to new Vandy, and
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I'm getting old Vandy.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Told you so, guy. But if I was like his
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: dad or whoever was his support staff, how did he
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: not go to Georgia?
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: That was locked in. Of course, he'd be sitting on
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: the bench right now. He would be. That's fine.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I would rather sit on the bench and learn under Gunner,
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: maybe win a national championship, get some mop-up duty.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Well, truthfully, not to get financial, but Kirby doesn't always
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: pay Top of the market to an incoming freshman because
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: you're going there for the system and, you know, the
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: wins and the way he coaches, which I admire tremendously.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: But that can't be like top priority. So he goes
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: to Nashville for this one year. Oh, let's see. Mensah,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: maybe Arch. I mean, there's some big boys out there
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: that will be looking to replace a quarterback that will
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: spend a ton of money. I think if you go
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: a little bit and prove yourself a little bit at
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Vandy for that first year, That makes your market value
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: go up.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I mean, financially, he probably made the right choice.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Unless you get beat to hell and back and you
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: end up going, you know, 2-10 or 3-9. That's your problem.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: If you go to a bad team and you can't shine.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: And right now he's not. We'll see. He had a
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: little bad when I watched him. No, I mean, yeah,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I think he's really good.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: All right, that's our stock report. A little over on
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: that segment there. Apologize to all the folks who run
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the show at Sporting State. Hopefully we're still on the air.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: They haven't taken us off the air yet. Kill them! Yeah.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: When we come back, did you ever do Clay Travis Law?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: I did.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Just checking. When we come back, my stock is down.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: You're right. Happy birthday to my son. It's his birthday today.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: When we come back, we'll do our upset alert and
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a lot more in the final hour of the show.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: on Sporting State.
