- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I also offer an ad free tier with a much shorter intro.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Just visit patreon.com slash StartMeUp, look at the different tiers and support the show today.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now, please enjoy my conversation with reporters Sarah Burris.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks so much for having me.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, as you know, as I just told you off, Mike, I'm suffering upper body backspasms, so that's super fun for me.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm afraid that I'm going to say something that makes no sense, so just in case, obviously I would edit that out.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: But just as we're talking, I don't know if I'm going to start rambling about something, but I just, I do wanted to say or ask you, did you hear that Trump just said gas prices are finally going to go down after the midterms?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like all of the promises that Trump has ever made have absolutely come true all of them for years now everything he's promised yeah
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, you know, it's just on a family member's Facebook page and it was funny because this particular family member used to be a Republican and now this person is posting occupied drug democrat graphics and somebody came on a friend came on and said Democrats are communist.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And this person, I'm trying not even to share the gender.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: But this person was like, no, talking to him and this person's talking about feeding the poor and blah, blah, blah, blah, and this stupid idiot guy just kept screaming that Democrats were communists and nothing was solved.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just interesting to me because you still have these people that are so loyal to him and it's insane, they buy on.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: And this man was yelling at my family friend
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: What did he say?
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said something like stop watching the fake news.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I'm like, oh, oh, my God.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: But this is what happened at the convention thing, where it was, it was so much violent rhetoric.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was really kind of reminiscent of what Trump was saying before January, like on January 6th before they attacked the capital.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: And there was like a whole bunch of Democrats are communists, which is, it's funny to me because it seems like they have tried, they've had to sort of jump away from the Democrats or socialist message because it turns out it's not work thing.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're trying this whole 1950s, Democrats are communists thing.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: The red scare.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it's funny because it's like,
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Democrat for being socialist, but then promise that I'm going to give you $5,000 if you vote for it.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they're never going to get anyway.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, that's obviously the other thing is having some sense from the promise.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: I saw eye corner shun scene in this morning said something to the effect of, you know, if I held my breath every time Trump told us that we were he was going to give
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: of which, I mean, there are a bunch of the times.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: They've been all over TV today, cable news.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, but yeah, it's just like, hey, we are going to...
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to shit talk a whole bunch of communist socialist stuff and then offer you a bunch of Socialist programs.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: If you vote for us, I'm really good.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it really won't matter, though, because AI's going to kill us all in 10 years.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was the scary news of the week, right?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Is is you had the executives who were like, well, it's not going to like totally kill us.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Right, let's do a little bit.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a binary.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's really a great, a great issue here.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: I can't I cannot be afraid of that because I feel like you know what if that's really going to be the end of humanity.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: So fucking be it because oh my god, I don't think it will.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think AI is necessarily, you know, at a stage where it is now is the most helpful.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, I mean, I know there are a lot of people out there who hate it and I understand why.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't hate AI because AI in it of itself is nothing other than a neutral idea.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's what human beings do with it.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like money.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, people say the, I guess the love of money or the greed of money is the root to all evil.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Money itself is just a concept.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's the human
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: aspect that brings in the ugliness.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I'm not so much afraid of the AI at this point, even human-run AI.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Because I do think there's a little, we have a little bit of time and I do want to talk to about that about the data center.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: But, um,
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I have this feeling that we're going to kind of get a hold of that before I could be wrong, right, but before AI kills us.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think we should think we're going to like kind of get a handle on that, but what I want to ask you is, do you how much I know they're going to affect, but like how much are these data centers going to affect the midterms.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good question.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it will be a lot.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to depend more on local versus versus like a national issue because what's happening at the local level is people are losing their mind whenever they find out.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: that either their city officials have approved a data center without anybody knowing about it or there's a pitch to get a data center approved in everybody in the town, rallies around it and is like, no.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's really, it's oddly enough, it's just not in those top three major issues for Americans.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: So affordability crisis, gas prices, and the war, and corruption, oddly enough, which has been an interesting kind of thing on the list because I think people,
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to care about corruption whenever you can't put gas in your tank or like you can't by groceries.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: It is, to me, it is a sleeper issue that I think is becoming a bigger deal because folks are starting to see the blatant examples.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: of just ridiculous levels of corruption, and before it kind of felt like Trump was in his White House folks were sort of doing it on the D.L.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: and now it's just so out in the oven.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: that.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the other piece of it is you're starting to see even conservatives ask questions about it.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: Letnik was on Howard Letnik was on CNBC last week.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: And what's his name?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: The Conservative host on Squawkbox was asking him about like slainness to me.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like why?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: this is not just blatant corruption.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: And let me kind of look surprised that he was being asked about this from a friendly source.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: But it's.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: And even in that arena, like he didn't really have a good answer for it other than, well, I sold my company to my children.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, obviously there's
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: because I'm not in charge of the company anymore.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of that same sort of game that Trump has been playing with his kids and let's look over the Trump organization.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: But it is expanded beyond Donald Trump profiting off of the his position as president and now is going to like all of the other cabinet officials
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: trying to figure out how they can make money off of it.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we saw that with Kristi Nome, and everybody, you know, like all the Republicans got mad about it.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, y'all, she's just doing what Trump has been doing.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: What is it about, you know, that she did that was so different that makes you mad about this.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, well, she is a woman.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go, like the thing is, a lot of these cabinet officials that are being stopped out, it's the ladies, you know, if, if, you know, the guys are doing this stuff and they're not shoving them out, so figure that out.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: So then let's just like roll this to Ken Paxton because I just, uh, tele Rico's bragging that he's got like 21 GOP people endorsing him.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but then also, it was
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Ken Paxon's top law enforcement agent, a Texas Ranger, David Maxwell, endorsed Talleriko.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: And this guy looks super maga and, um, you know, that's really interesting.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: So we all know, I mean, even Texans now.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Texas is Texas.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: I know it is.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: I understand, I'm not going to say I understand Texas, but I understand Texas
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know what's happening there because obviously, Teleriko's leading a little bit in some polls.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's got all these Republicans backing him.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing all this good stuff.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's saying all the right things.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: There are people out there that are convinced he's going to win.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Other people are like, well, it's Texas, so no, he's not going to win.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: And people that I, you know, just around the internet, people that I respect and usually I'm not going to say get it right because we're not psychics, but you know, you make political predictions and I think a lot of people who are highly respected in general also have been saying, yeah, he's going to win or he can win.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just curious like,
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's like no one more corrupt than Paxton.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: So how does that plan textist?
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I know we've talked about Talereka before, but it's a new day.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's how I am still on the fence about Texas because it is Texas.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I do, I buy into the Talereka absolutely can win, you can.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: And that is a big shift for me because for a while I was like nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that from what the interviews that I hear
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: from folks in Texas are things that are about him being corrupt, him being kind of just spaced out of the whole race in general, and that is more political people who are promising about it.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't, he acts like he doesn't even want this job.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like why are you trying to get people to hire you when you clearly don't want to do this?
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: because your gal is not even debating, is it?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's even debating.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which, I mean, makes sense because you see the speech that he'd be like, I, I, I wonder for a long time, why you always look stone, do you know?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like his eyes have that sort of half-closed thing.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's just because he's like five seconds from falling asleep, because that's how I felt watching that speech.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I love that Trump was like doing a roast about it afterwards and he's not an attractive guy, you know, he's he's not very nice looking which is hilarious to hilarious as a tangent because in Georgia they're like making fun of john awesome for being cute.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's like you guys I really don't think that saying somebody is attractive and young and super hot is gonna help you go after it in this race but it's something that Trump really has opinions about because he's so obsessed with appearances on for somebody who looks like he does.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know really.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think he thinks he looks different.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's like that whole thing of the
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true, that's true.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, the interviews that I saw for left a couple days, especially have just, you know, from Republicans are like, he's somebody cities trash, somebody called him trash.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that's interesting.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think, and so let's let's go back to this midterm thing, um, in general.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I know, you know, we're just going to keep talking about it up until the day.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, because it's a new day and there's always new things happening.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I just want to, I think the last time we talked, you felt pretty confident about the house, but maybe not the Senate and correct me if I'm wrong.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: Is that where you still are?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I still think we're going to take the house.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: This Bennett, you know, I've been on the fence, it's looking better.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious to see how things are going to end up in Maine.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm kind of worried about New Hampshire.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: I saw a bunch of independent expenditures that MAGA ink, which is Trump's super PAC purchased.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: And they're going all in on Michigan New Hampshire.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think it might be May and it or it's another one.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: What does it mean?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're putting in more than $10 million in advertising.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: The state where they're putting in the least amount of money was Texas.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: And Georgia.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: And so to me, when I saw that, I was like, oh, wow, they've given up.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Which, I mean, the whole purpose of having this big convention in Texas was to
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, try and raise money for Kim Paxton because the dude won't fundraise.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: And like, and the place was not empty, but all of the back bleachers were empty.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was really embarrassing to see that many empty seats.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then it was just a complete and utter disaster.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: I saw when folks were trying to get to the convention center because I guess they had them
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: 20 miles away.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know it was this crazy thing where they had them park at a horse track on a racetrack.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then they were going to shuttle everybody in.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Let's 100 degrees in Texas right now.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, it is brutal.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: And there's been this heat dome that's been because I was just in Oklahoma for the August recess.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it was the heat dome was just sitting on us.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, well, not going outside for a couple of weeks
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so these folks that were out there standing in line, waiting for these few shuttles that were supposed to take them, like, why didn't you just park down the road?
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's just, there's, there's neighborhood around here.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: You put just park on the street and walk over.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it would take less time than standing there for two hours at the race track and then taking a shuttle over.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: But he does that all the time.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: With rallies, you know, people like are stranded outside and freezing weather and
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: One of them, I remember last year, I think, or the year before was when the shuttles quit running because his speech went too long.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so people were just like stranded.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna get back to my car.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, I mean, then there's the whole federman thing.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, but I can't really say that.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Recently, I mean, like I just saw,
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: today before the podcast.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Something about him promising to always vote with the Democrats and be, you know, if there's a split, he would be 51.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was interesting that he said that.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the comments underneath of it was a meme that I saw.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: So let's pray that it's real.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: But somebody commented that he's really feeling the heat.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and it's funny because there's the guy I always talk about his name is epistemic crisis doctor and he talks about normal trumps dementia and all of that.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: But he just did a video on federalmen and he was, I don't remember the language he used because there was some specific language, but he talked about the fact that federalmen had a stroke and became more right wing.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he was talking, I mean, McConnell's always been right wing, but he had all these strokes and so his whole thing was like, you know, giving, oh, I know.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: like right wing ideologies.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So basically when you're when you have brain damage, that sounds appealing to you.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: So he was making that point.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, and Bob and I were talking about this on the after party last Friday and we were saying, you know, like, as you're going to switch parties and we were both like I was saying that I thought, okay, if Democrats win enough,
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: in the Senate that they don't need him, he'll stay a Democrat.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: But like if he's the deal breaker, I predicted he would go over to the Republicans.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't know.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's feeling it.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's saying right now that that's the case.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: He would be, he's gonna continue to caucus with the Democrats and he calls himself like a common sense kind of a Democrat.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, but you know, he really pissed off Democrats yesterday when he was at the GOP convention, which I did not watch.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Fetterman's biggest problem is that his approvals are so bad in his state and I kind of was where you are on that where I thought he might flip, but then I saw I can't know if it's this week or last week because all the time just runs together now.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and they have made it clear that he is miserable and he doesn't want to be there and he doesn't want to govern and he doesn't want to like show up or do anything Which does what the paycheck right exactly.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: So funny thing to me though is that like that story Compared with the fact that he did a video like he couldn't even show up to the Republican right I know I thought about that.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it was one of those things where like, if you don't want this job, don't be there, and so if he, I mean, did it.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm certain that Josh Shapiro would win the hell out of that seat if he ran.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: And so if Benjamin switches parties, he's going to get beat by somebody like Shapiro.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: If he even if he doesn't switch parties, his approvals are so low in a different party right now.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to make it through a primary, so I don't know what that looks like in the coming years because he's only got, you know, he's got after this election, he's got to start running again.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm curious to see if he's just going to be like, you know, I'm out of it.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go beyond the answer.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: Because they're going to start looking for
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: So why I'm so annoyed with him like just I'm curious to see I guess it's the 14 when Yeah, his staffers are going to start dropping text.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then I said well that might be on the 15th because he actually won't show up on Monday Which I think was just a joke, but yeah, so we'll see or whatever day that is Let's see what is it the 14th yes, it's Monday.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll either be Monday or Tuesday and we'll start getting all that juice from them and I'm
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm irritated.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's upsetting and it makes you wonder what the what the hell happened and the Democrats supported him so much when he had that stroke and it's like he's just flipping us all off and you know whether whether it's literally something happening with his brain or if it's
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: even Democrats will go, oh, come on, not everything is blackmail.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, people, people, people.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is fucking Russian territory here.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Donald Trump has been in this whole world about fucking Compromette for ever.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: So don't be naive.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think everything is about blackmail, I don't.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I, you know, it's interesting when you see somebody
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: who has a certain kind of, I mean, I'm not saying strokes calls cause a different ideology.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I do understand the idea because they did a, I think it was like years ago, they did a psychology today or something like that, study on liberal and conservative brains and their different.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: So there may be something to the fact that his stroke has led him to have a different political ideology.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not saying for sure, I think the guy's blackmailed.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: But if I found out that he was blackmailed, would I be surprised?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, anyway, it's like, I get so sick and tired of people saying everything's not about blackmailing.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, it's like we're dealing with the KGB right now.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes it is.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not just that.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I wouldn't be surprised how many other governments have stopped on elected officials because we know that Iran is spending a ton of money trying to, you know,
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, well, I know you wrote about Missouri.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: So why don't you fill a cell in.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: What a day.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is been okay.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Missouri is the craziest state.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I have seen in a while.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I come from Oklahoma.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like the fact that I can say that is Oklahoma.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like every county was read me didn't even have any.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: you know, cities that that that went blue.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: But what has been crazy about Missouri over the last few years is that they have tried to pass bills.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: They're legislators trying to pass bills that people hate so much that they're doing these ballot initiatives and passing the ballot initiatives by like 60, 70 percent.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: So you you have a populist that is furious.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: with what the government is doing.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so one, I'm kind of curious to see how this election goes for Republicans there because, I mean, everybody is so angry.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: What has happened in this case is that there's been this argument over the gerionandering of the maps.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: where Missouri trying to do the same thing.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: The text instead, the difference is Missouri couldn't actually pass the bill.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't like make it into the law.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it was kind of like house bill number one is what it was and and they so they tried to enforce this whole thing and the courts basically were like no guys like this is not lawfully can't do this you have to go with a 22 maps well the secretary of state was like yeah no no I'm just going to do whatever I want and they had a primary election that was based off of that.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the case went to the state Supreme Court.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: The state Supreme Court came down and was like, no, this is not a law.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get to use these maps.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so when they ruled on that, it was like September 3rd,
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he then rushed to the federal courts being like, guys, fix this like I need my conservative federal courts to step in and change this and, um, and he told local officials, um, you're going to go by my maps even after the state Supreme Court said the opposite.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that hacked off the Supreme Court so much.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, this is the conservative Supreme Court, right?
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: These people are Republicans.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, oh, they're so mad.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, you try and take my power away by God.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: So he has been fighting this whole battle in court.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: He got a conservative justice to say, oh, I'm going to slap a temporary restraining order on this and you can use the Republican maps.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then the US Supreme Court stepped in and it was like, no, this temporary restraining order is not legal, and so then he filed another thing for the Supreme Court asking them to rule on the State Supreme Court's decision.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: you can't do this.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: So now, like what has been because he told all of these local officials to violate the law, the state Supreme Court is hacked off and they're like, we're going to hold you in consent.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So submit a, you know, your documents telling us why you think we shouldn't hold you in consent and we're going to have a hearing about it.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: So the documents were due yesterday.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like his filing was due yesterday.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't file anything.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Of course he did instead was he filed an appeal to the federal court that gave him, you know, the out for the GOP maps and asked them, please will you step in and save me from being held and contempt.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: And the federal court came back last night and said, yeah, no, no, we're not.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: We've basically got smacked down by the US Supreme Court just as Cavanaugh, because it was like one of those, those like quick emergency decisions, the judge who oversees that region gets to say something.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: And Cavanaugh was like, no, I'm not letting you do this to British training order.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be in this morning, obviously US Supreme Court, the whole everybody else is just like, oh, we're not over ruling your state's Supreme Court.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: And so the contemporary happened on Thursday morning and it was a barn burner.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it was so fun.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: It was, um, so first of all, one of the things that is just a technicality, but really pissed me off is that this guy, the, the, um, Secretary of State was represented by the attorney general of Missouri.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like the attorney general of Missouri works for taxpayers.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: He works for us.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: He defends.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: the state and government, not some idiot who made stupid comments and defied the law in court, like that doesn't, that's not how it should work, but that's me being, you know, a nerd.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: What was funny to me is it seems like the justice is figured out 50 different ways to ask him, do you believe that this is law?
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you really think that this law is, you know, that we said is not valid, do you believe that it's valid?
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: Are you operating under the assumption that this law
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: you know, that these maps can go into an effect even after we said this and what was interesting to me is that attorney general, it wasn't the actual attorney general, it was one of the lawyers from the interview office.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: The lawyer said, well, you know, I haven't really had time to kind of furrow with my client because the Supreme Court just came down with this ruling, you know, and its things are just moving so fast.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: So we really haven't had
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: time to talk in the hour between that ruling came down and that's meeting and and then a couple other ways that he was answering and he was saying stuff like well we need to we need to spend some time with this and really work through the specifics and I mean it was just it was trying to so much to avoid answering the question you all ruled
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: This is the end, we lost, we admit, we lost, and we will follow the law.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: And at one point, one of the justices just goes, this is plain English.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's in the law, like this is right now.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: And even the attorney from the organization that sued the state of Missouri over the thing.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: They, um, he got up and was just like, I don't, I know that I went to a state school, but even I can read this.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, come on guys, it's pretty clear what the loss is, what your ruling says.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: We are not to use these maps.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: We have to use the maps that came out in 2000 or in 2022.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and, and so it was, I mean, at the end of it, the end all be all of it.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: if I were you.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the way he said it, yeah, basically, you know, tell your client that he shouldn't leave Jefferson City until the ruling is decided.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: To me, it was better not leave town because we were right when the clean.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's insane.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy, but yay.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: I keep refreshing the springboard page to see, you know, like what any second now, any second
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think I have a decision on the docket, but nothing yet.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, but that was, man, that was something else.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: I, I embedded the video on the story that I did about it.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it folks want to, you know, sit there with wide eyes.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: The, the fun thing about some of these judges is they are very plain spoken.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: And so a lot of the legal use that, you know, folks like us don't understand.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: It makes it so easy when you're just like, y'all, we made, we ruled on this.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's in English.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I really appreciate that, making it easier for me to understand.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let me rep, we appreciate your reporting.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like when I, when I talked to Bob after he had you on, he's like, Oh, my God, she's so refreshing because she's reporter.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, okay, that's good news.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yay.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yay.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yay.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: I do want to remind everybody that the US, okay, there's a headline, US Postal Service failed to properly handle some ballots during this year's primary elections audit.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wait, wait, wait.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hang on, hang on, hang on.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: Missouri, they're calling
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's currently two or three.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, girl.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: So here we are.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like we're just we did.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: So so so so how long how long do you think it'll take for us to know this?
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: How long does it usually take?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if they're as usual.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how that much about the Supreme State Supreme Court.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's just keep an eye on it and then if we're still on air or not like we're alive, but you know, if we're still on Mike, we can talk about it.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I just do, because like I know, it says an Inspector General's audit found a lack of training for post office staff deficiencies and how ballots were tracked and errors
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: more basically, more proof that we should not be mailing in our ballots.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that if I'm not mistaken, there was something that went around yesterday from indivisible and I'm looking for it now because I don't remember for sure.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: But it had to do about October 18th and I don't know if it's a rally, but for sure it's about and I'm going to get it, but it's about voting early.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so, um, where is it?
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: Where is it?
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think everybody needs to be careful and vote early to make sure it says, yeah, vote early.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Um, with our democracy at stake, we're showing up again to promote unprecedented voter participation in the midterms.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what it is.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like a protest, it's going to be on October 17th and the whole message of this protest is vote early.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: So vote early and, you know, whether it's ballot boxes or however you can do it, I think
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't feel comfortable with it.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not I haven't really been mailing my ballots in any way.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: I either drop them off in person or I drop them at a drop box.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, that's the nice thing.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: If I know, for instance, in Texas, they got rid of 92% precincts.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, of course, they were like in a democratic precinct or democratic area.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I know that's going to make it harder for a lot of people.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the whole point that like right now we are months ahead of this have a plan.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, don't get to voting day and go, oh, I can't because I got to go to work.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: We have plenty of time to figure out if they are fucking with voting in your area.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: Try to figure out a plan that you can vote early and get it in ahead of time.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that's what I have to say about that.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: Is there any new news on this whole thing?
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not yet, I still kind of one of those things that they're trying to fight at the Supreme Court of the male ballot issues.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's scary though.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm with you where I try and use the draw boxes, but I'm lucky because there's it's one like two blocks away from me.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was a very close one.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: But for folks who live in places like Oklahoma and Texas, it's a driving culture and everything is so spread out because that's
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: have lots of land options there.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: So they could make a day out of it on Saturday, you know?
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I would be.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like I do do some kind of big event where everybody you take each other to the polls.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like figure out whether it's going to be fun.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, do something, have lunch, go, you know, but plan it.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: Don't just get to voting gang, go, oh wait a minute.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the closest place I can vote is, you know, 50 miles away and I got to go to work.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: So just be prepared.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not that hard, you know, I wrote a book, not that anybody, I don't give a shit if anybody buys it, but it was called American woman, the poll dance women in voting and basically I wrote it for myself.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: When I was young and was not interested in voting.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I wanted to like convince my younger self why it was important to vote.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I did try to come up with some fun ideas which basically served as inspiration.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like if it doesn't sound fun to you, come up with your own thing.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, going through all those ballot initiatives, going through all of the things that we have to decide on sometimes it's confusing or when you're going over a candidate that you're not really familiar with, it's always good to be prepared and like, you know, get a group of friends or something.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: say, all right, you guys take care of, you know, three candidates, we'll do four candidates, and then we can all talk about it and decide what we want to do.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: But there's fun ways to do it.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's there's ways that you can figure out to engage and, you know, and do your civic duty, and it is a duty that doesn't, you know, that's not just super boring.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: There were a bunch of the youth organization, the, like, voting right organizations that I worked with, where we did trick or vote and Halloween is so close to a election day and so you could go vote in costume and that was that was a big, big events and stuff and it was, you know, it was completely nonpartisan, it's just trying to get young people to the polls and do it a fun way and
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know anytime you take a pizza in the polling place, like it can't be bad, except now the like a rest you right now for big you bring the water or treats, no treats for the voters, okay, the last the last thing I want to talk about unless we get some big news on Missouri is that progressives are winning primaries.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: Democrats are tearing each other apart.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: They can't even get the fucking names, right?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't think they should call it Democratic Socialists of America.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think they should call it Social Democrats because then everybody starts arguing about the semantics and they ignore what everything is really about, like Medicare for all college debt, et cetera, raising them minimum wage is really what they're for.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: As a whole, there are individuals,
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like a son, Piker, I hate him.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: And what we're seeing is somebody like Jamie Raskin, right?
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: Jamie fucking Raskin goes on MS now or CNN.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, why do you think it's on Piker?
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, why are you asking Jamie Raskin?
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Piker is like Rush Limbat to us.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: He is, you know, he's not an elected official.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a candidate.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a fucking talking head.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: And he says a bunch of shit that I mean, you know what?
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes he said things.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for clicks exactly in for attention.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I agree with some of the things he says.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that if I heard Rush Limbaugh talk long enough, I would agree with a few things that he said.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because we're all human beings, and, you know, we don't always agree on agreeing disagree on everything.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I agree on some of the things that Piker says.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: But ultimately, I think that he's a chaos agent.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he is very toxic to the party.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: And while I totally identify as an Elizabeth Warren progressive Democrat,
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I would never want to have anything to do with him and I know that there are some people in the party who like him, but like rather than going over the the.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: I know that the corporate media likes to think that they, I, and also a corporate media like MSNL and CNN not Fox, they like to think that they're kind of being fair and handling, but they're not because it's entertainment, it's cable news, and they're certainly not treating Donald Trump like they treated
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Biden.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't have a media that's going to do that.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: And what they're doing is they're putting all this pressure on Democrats.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think it's still stupid.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: So my question to you after I say all of this stuff is that progressives are still winning.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to know like you're take on that.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: Why do you think that's happening people like outside and I think your name is Angie Dixon.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: Is that right.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: I get names for them.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: So but you're we're single I don't remember all their names, but we're seeing a lot of them.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, then yeah, the Republicans are screaming communist, but what why do you think they're winning?
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there is this kind of anti incumbent backlash.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've talked about how, you know, Republicans are probably not in farewell.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're the party in power, but the reality is I think people Americans are just pissed at everybody and I think the only
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, exception to that has been in Massachusetts when they voted to keep their old man senator instead of several.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who's.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who's amazing.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's a really good senator.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's very smart, but certainly also very smart, like completely, you know, great candidate.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_01]: But what is, I think, surprising is that so many people who are kind of in that world of political elitism, and I want to say elitism, like financial elitism, like folks who have been in politics for a while, like a friend of mine ran for an office and he has worked for a labor union for 20 years.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: and he didn't make it through a primary.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so some of this sort of feels like people are just like, I want somebody who is a regular Joe, who's just like, I want a nurse or a teacher or a, you know, somebody else who represents me in terms of being just a,
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, an ignorant idiot on the street who doesn't know who doesn't read the paper every day and it's an obsessed with politics and following it all on Twitter and everything.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I like that aspect of it.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's where Trump kind of came out of.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he's not the establishment.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's not from Washington.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's somebody who a lot of voters really saw him as somebody who gets us, obviously.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was just a show.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it was, you know, now,
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: everyone's completely screwed with their version prices and their prices, but I think they're close to the midterms until I'm obviously wouldn't we get a huge check along with all the other money that he has.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think folks just really want something that's different, and I get that.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's a really reasonable thing to want.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like guys, can I please have
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: who's different or normal.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I get the idea of wanting to have people who are younger.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the baby boomers have basically spent their generation screwing up our economy and our society and our environment.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think,
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: GenXers and Millennials and GenZ folks are just like, can we please just fix this?
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you guys can go retire and we have to come in and now fix everything that you've screwed up.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I will add though that the boomers kind of brought us out of it and then, you know, like they were the ones who were screaming about the civil rights movement and, you know, they were so progressive in their day.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then a lot of it for Reagan.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: And then, and I will say, you know, I mean, with the Gen X and the last election, they went for Trump, which is upsetting.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not surprising because, you know,
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, where I went to high school, which was Torim's California near the beach, it's idealistic and everything, but it's primarily a lunch county.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's it's it's a little like county.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: Pardon me?
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little like county, but it's kind of
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like how, how could I say this?
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to put anybody down it towards, but it's like, you know, I've seen the show realize of Orange County, the Housewives or Orange County or whatever it is.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: And,
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: When I watched that show, because I did go to school and torrents, I definitely saw similarities, but it was like, they're the more holly-toe-vy.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then like torrents was just more the more working person, if that makes any sense.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, but it's very white supremacist there.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: And when I was there, I obviously, I was in high school, I wasn't political.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess I noticed that,
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: there were a lot of white people and you know I had come from a school and I just bring this up I don't even know why I bring this up because my back hurts and I'm just rambling but um I know that like in 8th and 9th grade the school that I went the school, the one school that I went to was primarily
- 45:50[SPEAKER_00]: I would say Hispanic and Asian and then white and black kids were really really really in the minority.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: I would say at about 10% maybe combined and and then I went to torrents and that was primarily white, but there were a lot of Asian kids and some Mexican kids.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: So like looking back, oh, I know I don't start just to hold gen X thing.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, you know, I don't know much about any of the other areas that I grew up, which were many Because my mom moved a lot when I was a kid, but I know that in torrent specifically where I went to high school, they all pretty all pretty much went for a trip.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just heartbreaking, you know, because I'm friends with, I'm not friends with any of the Trump supporters anymore on Facebook, but like you can go and look at people that I used to go to school with and see their praising Trump.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just so disappointing.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then they're still doing it.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that's Jen Xers.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was my whole point.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, wow.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm surprised.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: would go for.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: I've kind of not like they are of all the younger people, like folks under boomers, they are the most conservative and they always kind of have been.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think they supported Bush, didn't they?
- 47:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even remember.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, look, I guess they, I
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: I guess they, there's part of them that really wants a, you know, I want to have a beer with him, kind of.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: I just, why?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: Why would you have beer with him?
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know what somebody had said to me, Donald Trump was a good-looking guy when he was younger.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, no, he was not.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: I remember him.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: I never liked Trump.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: I never did.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but before he was, what he is now, I always thought he was super
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't understand.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what I do understand is this whole idea of no more career politicians, we want the guy that's just like us, but when was Trump ever like them?
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, he's such a fucking, oh my God.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: And he's so ugly, I'm sorry, but you know, look,
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: it shouldn't be about how we look.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: It shouldn't be.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: And so often it is, yet he's still fucking managed to do a twice.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: And he's so disgusting.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: Aside from the fact that he shits his pants and he smells like farts and he smells like poop all the time and it's clear because everybody around him makes faces.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: when they smell him and Kathy Griffin specifically described to people what he smelled like and I don't think she was around him when he was at his worst.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, and you know, she smelled poop then and make up and hair.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's basically like she could smell cosmetics and hair spray and poop.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_00]: What is it about this fucking man?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I can only I can only surmise that it's like,
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's like this villain that came in to destroy everything and give us an opportunity because he's not, he does not guarantee an outcome, but he gives us the opportunity to rebuild.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I look at it from that existential point because I feel like, you know,
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: What what the fuck else?
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: How do people like this guy?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I know he cheated and I know that he got a bunch of people to go in his cult But it's like when it's not when it's my generation.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just I you know I will never understand.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: I will never understand for as long as I live.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes no sense to me
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Especially with like the cynical gen X crowd, which I have been.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm not really cynical.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty optimistic.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: But still, I've got this cynical sense of humor.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know, I don't know.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: I get that.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I definitely am a cynical sense of humor.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I still have this like weird optimist.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, me trying to mean that, you know, desperately wants to see the rainbow and that.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it is there.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: It is there.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think that there is really something to this idea of people who want something that's different.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's our willing to do whatever it is to get what's different.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think, too, there's a big part of it where that is an easy.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: thing to vote on when everything else in your life is going well.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of where we were at in 2008 or in 2016 when the economy was good, jobs were good, the market was just like.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so then people start voting on things that are not related to the economy.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: when the economy crashes and when things are terrible that people vote on economic issues.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it would really be great if they studied history and recognized that when Democrats are in power, the economy is usually doing well because they've repaired all the damage from the previous Republican administration that destroyed it.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: There was a really interesting video I saw.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: So there's been a couple of memes and like people pointing out data from that, but there was a
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: blue cups and red cups and stacked them up and it was a very idiot crew, you know, for people who don't look up, you know, people like me don't look up like how many jobs did this president creator?
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: What's the net creation of jobs here or whatever?
- 51:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it was a really good visualization of
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: kind of where we are, who did what, when the economy crashed and under who's president.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the more, it's kind of the more you know things, the more people can talk about those issues and start having conversations about, okay, well, these policies are not working for us.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is what's creating a lot of disaster.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think the more information folks have,
- 51:58[SPEAKER_01]: votes still cast.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: At least that's no.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's let's let us pray.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: Adony cream cheese and don't eat prepared deli food evidently.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see that?
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, it's like every day is a new recall.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, we we're not going to be able to eat anything.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, it's the fascist diet.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: I was all the other spinach anyway.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was like,
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fine with the, like, okay, I'm not going to have some lettuce for a while.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to eat.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know what though?
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: I missed it.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm eating it again.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I did start washing.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't been doing it lately, but I was washing my lettuce.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I saw a a woman on YouTube talking.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: She's like a nutritionist and she was saying all you have to do is just put it in some cold bother with, like, it's like one part.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: vinegar.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was white vinegar and three parts water.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I would put a whole bunch of ice in the water and then I would put the vinegar and put the lettuce in and I was always fine But I really missed it.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: I was afraid.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I was surprised because I didn't think I would miss lettuce as much as I did, but you know I like to get in my refuge and my fiber And it does help because like the way I eat now
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: Just FY everybody, especially if you're a woman of a certain age and it's been difficult to lose weight, I have learned that if you first eat fiber so like what I like to do is I have a little bit because now I'm older and I have to take it, but I take met a muscle and so I take a little bit of that and then I just drink it and then I have my salad and then I eat my whatever vegetable I have.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: and then I eat my main course.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I have read that when people eat this way, it helps like having that fiber first helps reduce the glucose spike, which is like that whole insulin thing.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I know at some point I was insulin resistant, I'm not anymore, but you always want to keep those spikes as low as possible when you're eating.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: So even if you were going to eat something
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: If you eat a whole bunch of fiber first, that spike won't be as high.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: So FYI and yet Gary I'm eating my my cinnamon toast crunch.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're also young.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I'm old.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_00]: You're young.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's a difference.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_00]: Then when you get to be my age, you'll see the importance of fiber my younger all of you.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: It really is.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I'm starting to see all of those things that your grandmother always tells you, oh, watch this and do that and you're like, yeah, yeah, whatever.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: Now I see.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm the person at the grocery store telling all the young people to, you know, floss and work out.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I will say I will put a bug in people's earring off-lossing like true true fact like your key or the best friends you got yeah It's just funny, but you know here.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: I am all right.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think that's going to be it for today Thank you for
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: showing up.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that I was able to not sound like a complete.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: I can't even describe to you how unhuman I feel right now.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's so uncomfortable.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: I need to get to a chiropractor so badly.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, once again, Sarah, it's always great talking to you.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: You have such a unique and interesting personality.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_00]: What you do have an interesting, and I was going to say perspective, but, you know, my brain's not working.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: So you aren't absolute gym.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: I love chatting with you.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I cannot thank you enough.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, thank you.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, I'm just going to say this like I always do tell everyone before we go where to find you.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: At Sarah Burris, you are on literally everything.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm wrong.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've been trying to post four videos on Instagram, but it really just ends up being me being saying some stupid or silly or career.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, I'll come out of the shower where the towel in my head and be like, oh, hey,
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to know about this thing.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: We love that because you're inspired and you're going through inspired action and helping help in democracy.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_00]: So we thank you.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_00]: Your power thoughts.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: Shower thoughts with Sarah Burris.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, thank you, Sarah.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: And we will talk soon.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: Think again.
