- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, Welcome to the Inside the Birds postgame show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Jeff Mosher, Adam Kaplan and a year that started with
- 0:17Speaker 1: the Eagles having back to back Super Bowl championship aspiration
- 0:22Speaker 1: ends with the Eagles not even winning a playoff game.
- 0:25Speaker 1: They lose twenty three to nineteen to the San Francisco
- 0:29Speaker 1: forty nine Ers at the Link in a game they
- 0:32Speaker 1: led in the fourth quarter twice, Adam, and in a
- 0:35Speaker 1: game against an opponent that was already undermanned, and then
- 0:38Speaker 1: lost another significant player in the game to an injury.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Man The Eagles are going to kick themselves at him.
- 0:45Speaker 1: But I guess if you followed this team long enough
- 0:48Speaker 1: this year, you could have seen it coming.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you couldn't be surprised. In fact, that's the way
- 0:52Speaker 2: I felt. As a game progress and they couldnt put
- 0:56Speaker 2: the Niners away, I'm like, here we go again. It
- 0:59Speaker 2: just you get that ominous feeling about this is what's
- 1:02Speaker 2: plagued them the whole season is not taking advantage of opportunities.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You know, you talked about in our premium show with
- 1:08Speaker 2: myself and Greg Hosel about could they take advantage of
- 1:12Speaker 2: a want of opportunity here with the linebackers out they're
- 1:15Speaker 2: down four linebackers. Okay, this is a Niners team that's
- 1:20Speaker 2: essentially down six starters on defense if you look at
- 1:22Speaker 2: from week one, and they still couldn't get the job done.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Just embarrassing. That's really what it is to me, as
- 1:28Speaker 2: I look at my notes here, embarrassing loss exclamation point.
- 1:32Speaker 1: It just it is.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It's just this offense with the kind of offensive talent
- 1:38Speaker 2: that they have, of what they're being paid to underachieve,
- 1:41Speaker 2: like this is just embarrassing, and and and the other part.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And we'll get into the defense. But the defense surprised me,
- 1:48Speaker 2: really surprised me how much they struggled, particularly over the middle.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Did some good things. They were very uneven, but the
- 1:55Speaker 2: offense didn't carry the load like usual.
- 1:58Speaker 1: No, In fact, that was the big topic of my
- 2:00Speaker 1: Philly Voice story at him. You could have seen the
- 2:03Speaker 1: struggles offensively. You could have seen the penalties which were
- 2:07Speaker 1: mind numbing. How do you have two false starts at home? Right?
- 2:10Speaker 1: You could have seen that because you've seen it all year.
- 2:13Speaker 1: But you've also seen the Eagles win double digit games
- 2:16Speaker 1: and get a number three seed, compensating because they had
- 2:19Speaker 1: some big plays on offense every game they'd have one
- 2:22Speaker 1: or two and then the defense really came around. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: was shocked, and listen, I give Kyle Shanahan a lot
- 2:29Speaker 1: of props. I know he's a master schemer, but shocked
- 2:32Speaker 1: that a guy like DeMarcus Robinson, who I said in
- 2:34Speaker 1: the pregame show, I can't believe this guy is still
- 2:36Speaker 1: hanging around catching some big passes here and there, that
- 2:39Speaker 1: he would go for one hundred yards. I was shocked
- 2:42Speaker 1: that Kyle Usach would be wide open. You check, I'm sorry,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you check, would be wide open to get four catches.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He hadn't catch caught four balls all season long. I
- 2:51Speaker 1: mean in a game, all all season long. I would
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'm shocked at when George Kittle goes after still able
- 2:57Speaker 1: to find a way to move the ball. And yes,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I give I give this. I give credit to Shanahan
- 3:03Speaker 1: who tends to be conservative. On game day, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 1: they're down nineteen seventeen, right, they get into Eagles territory
- 3:10Speaker 1: and this is right after Perdy had thrown a pick.
- 3:12Speaker 1: But they but the the Eagles only got a field
- 3:15Speaker 1: goal out of it. When they got to the to
- 3:17Speaker 1: the twenty. I said to my coworker, Evan Philly Voice said,
- 3:20Speaker 1: they're not gonna throw the ball. They're just good. They're
- 3:22Speaker 1: not gonna let Purdy ruin it again, right, they're gonna
- 3:24Speaker 1: kick a field. No, they let him throw twice. He
- 3:27Speaker 1: threw a nice pass and then he threw a touchdown
- 3:29Speaker 1: to McCaffrey on a on a between the numbers type pass.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So Kyle went for the jugglar and I guess the
- 3:35Speaker 1: Niners deserved it more. They played better, they outplayed the Eagles,
- 3:38Speaker 1: and I'm really am surprised that vic Fangeo's defense just
- 3:42Speaker 1: didn't have it. I you know, it's one thing to
- 3:44Speaker 1: get beat man and man occasionally, like in the Broncos game.
- 3:47Speaker 1: We saw that happen. But they were loose, like you said,
- 3:49Speaker 1: over the middle especially.
- 3:51Speaker 2: It surprised me just that that they lost their their depth.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They just they found something on over routes and other
- 4:02Speaker 2: routes over the middle. They just got them badly. DeMarcus
- 4:05Speaker 2: Robinson's this guy's we talked about the game show. That
- 4:08Speaker 2: was really a special teams player for many years, a
- 4:09Speaker 2: really good one. That's why he was in the league.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And then the Rams had some injuries. A couple of
- 4:14Speaker 2: years ago, he had a play, and he played extremely well.
- 4:16Speaker 2: They took him off special teams, got a nice contract
- 4:19Speaker 2: extension out of it, bounced around the league, Ravens, Chiefs, Rams, Niners.
- 4:25Speaker 2: They needed him badly and he delivered big time. For
- 4:28Speaker 2: one to eleven. He caught six out of his seven
- 4:30Speaker 2: targets McCaffrey. It's interesting because they bottled them up. The
- 4:35Speaker 2: Eagles run defense was that was the only really good
- 4:37Speaker 2: part of their defense. But Q Mitchell had two picks
- 4:44Speaker 2: and all pro. By the way, congratulations to him both plays.
- 4:47Speaker 2: If you really look at pretty turned his head in
- 4:50Speaker 2: the facing pressure, which you can't do. That's an Eli
- 4:52Speaker 2: Manning move. You can't do that. But they got him
- 4:55Speaker 2: on the whatever you want to call it, the San
- 4:57Speaker 2: Francisco Special. That play worked.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Man.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Juwan Jennings won a throw. What a throw for the touchdown?
- 5:03Speaker 1: The San Francisco treat like Rayce a Roni. Yeah, now
- 5:08Speaker 1: here's where the game was lost. That was tough because
- 5:10Speaker 1: you know, the Niners again without Kittle, had trouble moving
- 5:13Speaker 1: the ball. They pull out a trick play. Okay, it happens,
- 5:16Speaker 1: all right, and then they go up seventeen sixteen. What
- 5:20Speaker 1: really hurt the Eagles to me was after Quinnon Mitchell
- 5:24Speaker 1: picks off Purty for the second time, the Eagles get
- 5:28Speaker 1: the ball, they drive, I mean, they're going, well, they
- 5:31Speaker 1: should go up a touchdown there. I mean, this is
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Eagles offense. It's the most expensive offense in the league.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And then they have to settle for a field goal
- 5:38Speaker 1: because on a first and ten you get a Barkley
- 5:40Speaker 1: no gain. All right, he gets hurt almost I thought
- 5:43Speaker 1: he was gonna hurt, be hurting bad. Yeah, look bad,
- 5:46Speaker 1: look bad, Tyler Steen got banged up. But then second
- 5:49Speaker 1: and ten incomplete the dots And now I know people
- 5:52Speaker 1: wanted pass interference on that play. That ball was so
- 5:55Speaker 1: poorly underthrown. Though I'm not gonna kill it hurts too much.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I don't think he a bad game, but that was
- 6:00Speaker 1: an underthrown ball. And now you're in third and ten
- 6:03Speaker 1: and the Eagles have lived lived. If you listen to
- 6:06Speaker 1: inside the data on Inside the Birds, you know the
- 6:08Speaker 1: Eagles have been in third and long this year more
- 6:10Speaker 1: than third and short and third and medium combined, and
- 6:13Speaker 1: their percentage rate is like twenty five percent of I mean,
- 6:16Speaker 1: the whole league's percentage rate on third and long is
- 6:18Speaker 1: not good. But the Eagles especially aren't good and they
- 6:22Speaker 1: could not cut. They had a centle for the field goal,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and Adam that right there is where I said, uh oh,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you now let them hang around. Now you're only up
- 6:29Speaker 1: by two, there's still about eight minutes left in the game.
- 6:33Speaker 1: And that's where I really felt the Eagles lost a
- 6:35Speaker 1: chance to put the dagger in that team.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, they just didn't take advantage of field position and
- 6:41Speaker 2: turnovers forced it. Just that was this thing was mind boggling.
- 6:45Speaker 2: When you win the turnover battle, you know, in the playoffs,
- 6:48Speaker 2: you should be winning it. And by the way Eagles finished,
- 6:50Speaker 2: including the playoffs and extremely disappointing five and four at home. Wow,
- 6:55Speaker 2: hard to believe. Hard to believe, Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Very very But you know, and I wrote this too.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I'm like, again, we could have seen a lot of
- 7:03Speaker 1: these warts coming because they were there all year. But
- 7:06Speaker 1: the Eagles played a brutal schedule at them. They played
- 7:08Speaker 1: a brutal schedule and won a lot of big games
- 7:12Speaker 1: against opponents as good as talented, if not more than
- 7:16Speaker 1: the forty nine ers. But you hate to be the
- 7:19Speaker 1: and I'm sure everybody feel this way. We're not trying
- 7:21Speaker 1: to be preaching the whole I told yourself thing. But
- 7:23Speaker 1: anybody could have seen this coming. You know that if
- 7:25Speaker 1: you just don't put it together over eighteen weeks, you know,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni said something about we're really starting to feel identity.
- 7:32Speaker 1: No you weren't, No, you were. Everybody knew that. That
- 7:35Speaker 1: was just that was coach speak. There is no identity
- 7:37Speaker 1: in this offense. It's the run game. But well that's
- 7:41Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But identity is a bad one is
- 7:43Speaker 1: that their run game is not working.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Well. It actually did in this game to a degree.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But it's funny when you look at Barkley's number should
- 7:51Speaker 2: go well, he had over one hundred yards, but it
- 7:54Speaker 2: didn't feel like it. I mean, he had some really
- 7:56Speaker 2: nice runs. But what happened was as the game progression,
- 7:59Speaker 2: the second here we go again, negative yards, gets hit,
- 8:04Speaker 2: falls down. It's just you can't get over. They couldn't
- 8:08Speaker 2: get out of their own way. Pass pro was not
- 8:10Speaker 2: the problem. Drop passes Barkley round bad one, real bad
- 8:15Speaker 2: one over the middle. That's got to get caught. Smitty's
- 8:18Speaker 2: last one, I say, should have had it. You could
- 8:20Speaker 2: see different views. People good debate whether you should have
- 8:23Speaker 2: caught it. Or not. Can't have drop passes, man, they
- 8:25Speaker 2: can't afford it. Yep, it's this is one of those
- 8:28Speaker 2: situations where you got to come through when it matters,
- 8:33Speaker 2: and too many players do not come through in this game.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right on Barkley. I mean, going over one
- 8:38Speaker 1: hundred yards is nice, and had had too many. But
- 8:40Speaker 1: overall the team averaged three nine to carry. That's just
- 8:43Speaker 1: that's not good. You know, Bigsby came in give them
- 8:46Speaker 1: a little bit, but it hurts. Now, some people thought
- 8:49Speaker 1: Hurts was saving the run game, the quarterback run game
- 8:53Speaker 1: for the playoffs. Folks, they don't do that. You know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you do what you are what you are.
- 8:56Speaker 2: That was funny when I saw that, I'm like, really,
- 8:58Speaker 2: you really think they're doing that.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not just gonna pull out six or seven
- 9:01Speaker 1: things and use them frequently that they didn't use. Now,
- 9:05Speaker 1: he didn't have one run, but of course the Cam
- 9:07Speaker 1: Jurgens penalty held it back. But that's that was a
- 9:09Speaker 1: run out of spread. They've been doing that, you know,
- 9:12Speaker 1: that's sort of their one to two plays per game
- 9:14Speaker 1: that they tried to spring him on and a couple
- 9:17Speaker 1: of times the forty nine ers were ready for it
- 9:19Speaker 1: and clogged the middle. So there's a lot of work
- 9:21Speaker 1: to do for this team, Adam, a lot of you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: we didn't even talk about this Lane Johnson, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 1: you and I in the pregame show said and I'm
- 9:30Speaker 1: not I'm not even sure at this point that Lane
- 9:32Speaker 1: Johnson being healthier and not as the difference, because they've
- 9:35Speaker 1: had plenty of poor offensive performances this year with Lane.
- 9:38Speaker 1: But the point is when he couldn't be a full
- 9:41Speaker 1: participate in practice after what seven or eight weeks of
- 9:45Speaker 1: the sideline, Yeah, I mean that that's that's that's that's
- 9:49Speaker 1: just a bad sign. It's just been a really rough
- 9:51Speaker 1: season for the Eagles offensive line.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's uh. The list, the list fronk spray and
- 9:58Speaker 2: the midfoot spraying is top. Remember we had Aaron Borgan
- 10:01Speaker 2: on the former Chiefs and Eagles assistant athletic trainer, and
- 10:05Speaker 2: he made it clear if he played, it could be
- 10:08Speaker 2: a different, different clead. It would be hard to anchor
- 10:10Speaker 2: and set. It just would be really really difficult. And
- 10:13Speaker 2: that that's quite frankly what went up happening. And I
- 10:16Speaker 2: guess he just wasn't ready. But although I thought late
- 10:19Speaker 2: in the week Okay, he's least he's working. Maybe he
- 10:21Speaker 2: can get the pregame warm ups get through it. But
- 10:24Speaker 2: that didn't happen for Johnson, started for him. But overall,
- 10:28Speaker 2: on your point, they just they just could not get
- 10:32Speaker 2: in any kind of rhythm. Right when you thought it
- 10:34Speaker 2: was starting to happen, they'd bogged down, penalty drop, mispass,
- 10:40Speaker 2: missed opportunity. I'm not blaming the win, by the way,
- 10:43Speaker 2: although I thought it was interesting. They tried. They tried
- 10:45Speaker 2: the shot play the deep post. I mean it hurts
- 10:48Speaker 2: through it. I mean, I don't know how many yards.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It seemed like fifty yards. Brown couldn't get it. And
- 10:52Speaker 2: then of course we had the little little dust up
- 10:55Speaker 2: with uh with Nick and aj on the sideline that
- 10:58Speaker 2: would which was interesting. Yeah, but Nick told Aaron Andrews,
- 11:03Speaker 2: no big deal, that everything's fine. Okay, let's see what
- 11:06Speaker 2: happens come March.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We will see. You know, you make a great point.
- 11:11Speaker 1: There is something so sort of mind boggling about how
- 11:14Speaker 1: this offense can just at times in the same game,
- 11:18Speaker 1: right like go back to you know, they score a
- 11:20Speaker 1: touchdown early, that was nice, nice creative usage of Dallas Gotter,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and then they kind of revert back to two drives
- 11:26Speaker 1: of Blair and then all of a sudden in the
- 11:29Speaker 1: in the second quarter, right you get like third and
- 11:32Speaker 1: nine dots in fall starts third and fourteen, and then
- 11:35Speaker 1: you three see a beautiful pass from Hurts to DeVante
- 11:39Speaker 1: Smith on the spread formation again, so they move the
- 11:42Speaker 1: chains first down and then you get the oh no, no,
- 11:44Speaker 1: that was that. That was thirty twelve yards and then
- 11:46Speaker 1: Hurts ran for the first down, and then he made
- 11:49Speaker 1: another really nice throw, and then he makes another throw
- 11:52Speaker 1: and then they get a good run and then nine
- 11:53Speaker 1: yard touchdown passed together.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Then yeah, you're right, It's like it's there.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It's there. And sometimes it makes me think, like they
- 12:02Speaker 1: work so hard to try to get that run identity,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but it seemed like when they wanted to pass the
- 12:07Speaker 1: ball at the end of halves, or when they were
- 12:09Speaker 1: even in the end of this game, right when they
- 12:11Speaker 1: were marching down the field, Nick Siriane says, I don't
- 12:14Speaker 1: trust my defense. On fourth and five. What happens he
- 12:17Speaker 1: had three byally had three timeouts and two minutes and
- 12:21Speaker 1: eight seconds left, or maybe even more. I thought he
- 12:24Speaker 1: was gonna punk there, and but no, he says, no,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna I don't trust my defense, and they get
- 12:29Speaker 1: a fifteen yard catch, a nice throw from Hurts to Goddard.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So it's like, why is it that they can be
- 12:36Speaker 1: so prolific When they decide they want to pass, they
- 12:38Speaker 1: can pass. But then when they decide they want to
- 12:41Speaker 1: go back to that balance and run, and then they
- 12:44Speaker 1: get behind the sticks and run and they can't.
- 12:47Speaker 2: They had Barklay and I really look forward to this
- 12:50Speaker 2: week's coming up here the inside of the tape show
- 12:52Speaker 2: because it just seemed to me and Barkley again had
- 12:58Speaker 2: a nice game, but amber of them we're not blockwell
- 13:02Speaker 2: where he had to make it on his own.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yep.
- 13:05Speaker 2: And that's just that the story of this season if IF,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and we'll get to that in another show coming up.
- 13:10Speaker 2: We got plenty of time on other shows in the future.
- 13:13Speaker 2: A lot is you know, if you had if IF
- 13:16Speaker 2: if you can put in the comments if you want,
- 13:19Speaker 2: if you want to rank your most ten disappointing things.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I just cannot believe the offensive line of the season.
- 13:24Speaker 2: It just this wasn't one of the worst games. Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 2: that would be again, Barclay had to do some things
- 13:31Speaker 2: on his own. Past projection seemed to be pretty decent,
- 13:34Speaker 2: which has been the story quite frankly, the run block
- 13:36Speaker 2: for the most part, it's but terrible the season, but
- 13:38Speaker 2: overall it's uh, it's the run blocking to me, overall
- 13:42Speaker 2: has been one of those things that I'll just never understand.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I we could use, we have all, We've listed the
- 13:49Speaker 2: answers throughout the season. It's not a mystery to us
- 13:50Speaker 2: because we have physical, physical conditioning, coming off surgery, all
- 13:55Speaker 2: this stuff. But to be this bad, come on anyway.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Shock jockey. And I know, I know that people are
- 14:03Speaker 1: gonna respond. You said they're gonna leave comments.
- 14:05Speaker 2: They're gonna cious.
- 14:07Speaker 1: We're gonna say Number one is Petullo. I know they will,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and it's fair. He did not do a good job,
- 14:12Speaker 1: but you have I would implore everyone to remember this
- 14:15Speaker 1: that Kevin Botulo is the only Eagles offensive coordinator since
- 14:20Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni became head coach to not have a viable
- 14:24Speaker 1: run game and elite offensive line. So he is the
- 14:27Speaker 1: only offensive coordinator to have to constantly deal with living
- 14:31Speaker 1: in third and long. Now, if you think it's his
- 14:33Speaker 1: fault for that, because he didn't come up with good
- 14:36Speaker 1: enough run game where he and the staff didn't again
- 14:39Speaker 1: take an account, like you just said, the offensive line
- 14:41Speaker 1: and always the penalties to those are bad. Those are
- 14:44Speaker 1: on Nick. You gotta have a you gotta run a
- 14:46Speaker 1: tighter ship. There's no reason with as many veterans and
- 14:49Speaker 1: incumbents from a super Bowl team that the Eagles had,
- 14:51Speaker 1: that the Eagles should have been I think it was
- 14:52Speaker 1: fourth in the NFL and accepted penalties. There's no reason
- 14:56Speaker 1: for that, no reason you should have two false starts
- 14:58Speaker 1: at home. I mean, that's just ridiculus. So you can
- 15:00Speaker 1: put Patola at the top of your list and we'll
- 15:03Speaker 1: see what happens, you know, in this all season. But
- 15:06Speaker 1: remember that he is the only Eagles offensive coordinator to
- 15:08Speaker 1: not have a run game.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I know, But again, what the thing that you can't
- 15:15Speaker 2: wrap your hand around with a J Brown, Devonte Smith
- 15:17Speaker 2: and Gotter has a career year. By the way, it hurts.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It made some good throws and it was not uneven
- 15:23Speaker 2: game for him, but he made some good throws. And
- 15:25Speaker 2: Barkley that they could be this and apt offensively and
- 15:29Speaker 2: to lead the NFL in three and ounce Are you serious?
- 15:33Speaker 2: I mean, how the hell has that happened? This team
- 15:35Speaker 2: with this talent I just can't imagine what the owner
- 15:38Speaker 2: who loves offense, who wants a world class offense is thinking.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Right now. We saw two years ago one pretty when
- 15:44Speaker 2: they showed him in the butt in the booth, that
- 15:46Speaker 2: in the in the in the box, and that that
- 15:50Speaker 2: against the Bucks. And this one is even more humilating.
- 15:54Speaker 2: It's at home.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Yeah, not good. Yeah, you had the most expensive offense
- 15:59Speaker 1: in the NFL coming up flat, scoring nineteen points at
- 16:01Speaker 1: home going the final. I guess it was like thirty
- 16:04Speaker 1: six minutes of the game without just three points against
- 16:09Speaker 1: an offense that had no Brandon Ayuk, no Ricky Pierce,
- 16:14Speaker 1: all lost George Kittle early in the game, averaged three
- 16:18Speaker 1: yards per run and was basically throwing the ball to
- 16:21Speaker 1: DeMarcus Robinson, Kyle Yushik, and Christian McCaffrey. Ow mcaffre's good.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But guys, like, what's your favorite guy? You're tight end, my.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Boy, Jake tongues. Don't call him tongues, see tongue ridiculous.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Absolutely beats in many tongue. He catches in many tongues
- 16:36Speaker 1: at him.
- 16:38Speaker 2: So let me ask you this question, because we've talked
- 16:41Speaker 2: about the offensive line every season has a personality. You
- 16:44Speaker 2: could say, this is what happened that season? What is
- 16:47Speaker 2: the season going to be known for that?
- 16:51Speaker 1: Well, honestly, that that offensive line and their inability to
- 16:55Speaker 1: run and their their constant desire to run even though
- 16:59Speaker 1: they couldn't. They were not adjustable.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Okay, would you not say, I would say missed opportunities?
- 17:06Speaker 2: A ton of them, nauseum. Can't can't even count that high.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It seems like hundreds of Just now. I saw them
- 17:13Speaker 2: YouTube comments. I was looking at the other day and
- 17:15Speaker 2: they're they were right. You could you could pat yourself
- 17:17Speaker 2: on the back. They won't because you know, the pessimist
- 17:20Speaker 2: is the pessimists from Philly.
- 17:22Speaker 1: We get anyone.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was born here. I know it.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I get it.
- 17:25Speaker 2: You know you because you've seen it. I understand your
- 17:30Speaker 2: feelings because we have to talk about it and watch
- 17:33Speaker 2: this junk. Okay, that's the painful part. We had to
- 17:36Speaker 2: watch it two years ago. This is embarrassing. I mean,
- 17:40Speaker 2: I just we're not even fans and we're embarrassed by it.
- 17:43Speaker 2: It's just it was, it was.
- 17:45Speaker 1: It's a tough. Watch it Greg, our friend Greg.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Watch Yeah, it's Greg. What's it? So let me ask
- 17:49Speaker 2: you this.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You were in the locker room after the game. Uh,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you know I could. I was to rewrite my entire story,
- 17:54Speaker 1: so I didn't. Yeah, from what I understood, it was
- 17:57Speaker 1: kind of a work down there.
- 17:58Speaker 2: It would be, because I mean, this is how long
- 18:01Speaker 2: ago I remember. I remember being in the locker in
- 18:04Speaker 2: twenty ten whatever it was twenty ten the Mirkle and
- 18:08Speaker 2: Meatlands two and Tom Coughlin went off on the punter
- 18:11Speaker 2: of the Giants and then to go to both locker
- 18:14Speaker 2: rooms because I had to, I had to run a
- 18:16Speaker 2: game story and just to see the humiliation of one
- 18:22Speaker 2: locker room the jubilation or the other. I just imagined
- 18:26Speaker 2: that the Notedge playing on with house money that the
- 18:29Speaker 2: minute I'm you know, it's they're not going to confident
- 18:31Speaker 2: that they could win. But reality is they just don't
- 18:33Speaker 2: have enough talent. They should have won. And then but
- 18:36Speaker 2: they did give them tons of credit, as you said earlier.
- 18:38Speaker 2: And then you've got the Eagles who've got all this talent.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Very healthy team, by the way, other than Lane Okay,
- 18:45Speaker 2: Brett Toth was an active due to his concussion, but
- 18:48Speaker 2: he's not a starter. But to be this inept on offense,
- 18:53Speaker 2: it's just hard to believe.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I'm not accepting any excuses for this. I'm just not.
- 18:58Speaker 2: You got to be better. And it starts with the
- 19:00Speaker 2: head coach. We we don't know about Petulla. That that's
- 19:03Speaker 2: that's low hanging fruit in terms of criticism. We don't
- 19:06Speaker 2: need to go there anymore. We've done that, everyone's done it.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But it starts with the head coach. And it's your scheme, buddy,
- 19:14Speaker 2: it's your scheme. How much longer could you run this junk?
- 19:18Speaker 2: I mean, we we've called out a high school offense.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I think Greg said that. We've talked to so many
- 19:25Speaker 2: teams to say this scheme is awful. They didn't mention Petula.
- 19:29Speaker 2: They just because they're going by coaching team. That's all
- 19:31Speaker 2: they cold look at. They don't back to the egals
- 19:32Speaker 2: practice date and when when when advanced people tell us, God,
- 19:35Speaker 2: this is really bad. What this is like one of
- 19:38Speaker 2: the worst schemes we've seen.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I geez, which, by the way, people have said
- 19:43Speaker 1: for a couple of years Eagles were able to accomplish.
- 19:45Speaker 1: But yeah, it's the same King, So this is run
- 19:48Speaker 1: last year, that's all. This is something I think we're
- 19:50Speaker 1: going to talk about a lot going forward, right, And
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's a unique situation, right, Nick Sirianni is an offensive coach,
- 19:56Speaker 1: but he's not a play caller. He didn't call plays
- 19:58Speaker 1: with the Colts, and he gave it up early in
- 20:00Speaker 1: his first year and basically was said like that, this
- 20:03Speaker 1: is not my strength. I'd rather give it to somebody else.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And I feel like I feel like this is a
- 20:08Speaker 1: unique situation for offensive head coaches because most of them
- 20:12Speaker 1: usually are play callers and they can throw a life preserver.
- 20:16Speaker 1: This is going to be a bad example because people
- 20:18Speaker 1: are gonna say, but that team didn't win. But you know,
- 20:20Speaker 1: when Dan Campbell didn't like what was going on with
- 20:22Speaker 1: his offense, he could take over play calling and he
- 20:25Speaker 1: certainly had more better offense from down to down than
- 20:28Speaker 1: the Eagles are shown this year. They just they also
- 20:30Speaker 1: had a bad defense, gave up a lot of point
- 20:32Speaker 1: but they there were game where they scored a lot
- 20:33Speaker 1: of points sure, and didn't win. Nick Siriani can't do
- 20:37Speaker 1: that right now. And this is why maybe one of
- 20:39Speaker 1: the offseason needs is a senior offensive advisor plays because
- 20:45Speaker 1: look at Andy Reid, Right, Andy Ree's a great play caller,
- 20:47Speaker 1: but even he know many times we've talked about he's
- 20:50Speaker 1: gotten into a rut and he's handed it off and
- 20:52Speaker 1: then somebody else is taking the reins and run. They
- 20:55Speaker 1: did it Marty, but I think he did it to
- 20:57Speaker 1: childrens too. He told me he's talked about that a
- 20:59Speaker 1: couple of time.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 21:00Speaker 1: The point is he could do give and then he
- 21:03Speaker 1: could take it back. He could, he could get a
- 21:05Speaker 1: life preserver, but then he can be the life preserver,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and Nick Sirianni can't be that, and he's gonna lose
- 21:11Speaker 1: because the team is generally well built and successful. He's
- 21:14Speaker 1: losing a lot of coordinators and he probably will in
- 21:17Speaker 1: the future if the Eagles get back. But he can't
- 21:20Speaker 1: be the life preserver. And this is a problem, and
- 21:23Speaker 1: this is why they need somebody in that room without
- 21:26Speaker 1: overdoing it, without getting twenty twenty Eagles, where you got
- 21:30Speaker 1: Marty and you got Skangerloe and you got Briner and
- 21:33Speaker 1: you got right. You can't overdo it right, right. So
- 21:37Speaker 1: I'm not trying to advocate for this whole committee approach
- 21:40Speaker 1: because that's dangerous too. But they just need someone who
- 21:43Speaker 1: can call plays and well and has the experience doing
- 21:46Speaker 1: it to help out the play caller if he needs.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yes, I'd mentioned that after the Buffalo game when Nick
- 21:52Speaker 2: opened a can of worms. Maybe I felt like I
- 21:54Speaker 2: was like the only one who sought this way. You're
- 21:57Speaker 2: basically admitting when because he said that he when he
- 22:02Speaker 2: said Kevin needs help, then he goes Then I guess whatever.
- 22:06Speaker 2: The reporter was asked him for a follow up because, well,
- 22:09Speaker 2: but I also have to coach the team. It's pretty difficult. Well, dude,
- 22:12Speaker 2: you should have known this in the beginning. We said
- 22:15Speaker 2: this in twenty twenty one when he was hired, because
- 22:18Speaker 2: we did some homework on Nick who he had a
- 22:20Speaker 2: ways to go as a coach, and it showed, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: early on he's trying to figure it out with you
- 22:28Speaker 2: just mentioned the play calling, and to his credit, that
- 22:31Speaker 2: was phenomena. They gave it up around half season to
- 22:33Speaker 2: Stike and like how many coaches would do that. I thought.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I was very impressed by that, and it worked. Obviously,
- 22:37Speaker 2: it really worked, and Shane was great. He skelted things
- 22:40Speaker 2: down and help hurts out. And remember they came out
- 22:42Speaker 2: trying to throw like crazy in the beginning. It was
- 22:44Speaker 2: like you're trying to skip steps here, and they scaled
- 22:47Speaker 2: things down they were better, and you saw how great
- 22:48Speaker 2: it Hurts was in twenty two. But remve this along here.
- 22:52Speaker 2: You as a head coach have to know what's working,
- 22:54Speaker 2: what's not, and what you need. No matter who the
- 22:56Speaker 2: play caller is this coming season in twenty six, you
- 23:01Speaker 2: better have some help. You better have a there's a
- 23:07Speaker 2: saying with coaches it's called an idea guy. Someone who
- 23:10Speaker 2: could step in and tap your shoulder and go, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 23:13Speaker 2: slow down a little bit. This is what Kevin Stefanski
- 23:16Speaker 2: told me when he hired Kevin Rodgers. When they got
- 23:19Speaker 2: there in twenty twenty. He was a I guess he
- 23:21Speaker 2: coached with him with the Vikings. He felt he needed that,
- 23:24Speaker 2: he needed voice of reason to bounce stuff off of. Well,
- 23:27Speaker 2: Nick couldn't bounce stuff off anyone because he felt he
- 23:29Speaker 2: was coaching and he couldn't do it. On your point,
- 23:31Speaker 2: That's what I brought up three weeks ago, like this
- 23:33Speaker 2: is a mistake, but you know you have to go
- 23:36Speaker 2: through the course of a season and see where you're
- 23:39Speaker 2: you're delinquent and where things are not working. And to
- 23:44Speaker 2: do this along here. It was so up and down
- 23:45Speaker 2: the season more down it up with her offense. And
- 23:49Speaker 2: then the other thing is, and we'll get to this
- 23:51Speaker 2: in offseason shows, what are you going to do to
- 23:55Speaker 2: improve not not only from a play calling standard, a
- 23:58Speaker 2: schematic standpoint, what are you to do to improve the
- 24:01Speaker 2: talent level their offensive line? Because you're locked into a
- 24:03Speaker 2: lot of big deals. Yep, and that's something that these
- 24:07Speaker 2: and I understand, they're beat up from a big season,
- 24:09Speaker 2: last year's super well run, so they got a long
- 24:11Speaker 2: they got a long ways to go here.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
- 24:16Speaker 3: to clean up their habits and that includes me. Honestly,

- 27:39Speaker 1: It's gonna be a very interesting off season. I imagine
- 27:42Speaker 1: obi an off season of change. You know my favorite expression.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Nobody hires and fires assistant coaches more than the Eagles
- 27:50Speaker 1: in years that they make the playoffs. I say that
- 27:52Speaker 1: in Jess because I hate seeing people lose their jobs,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and I don't know that there's gonna be major, major changes.
- 27:57Speaker 1: We want to see just what happens in the next
- 27:59Speaker 1: few days. But obvios Lee, the team fell short of
- 28:01Speaker 1: its goals and when it does do that, changes usually occur.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So we'll have to stay on top of that, of
- 28:06Speaker 1: course we will, and inside the Birds we will have
- 28:09Speaker 1: this last week of tape breakdown from Greg Cosell and
- 28:12Speaker 1: then before you know it, Adam, we'll be having Greg
- 28:14Speaker 1: breaking down college prospects for the Intel with Greg Cosell
- 28:18Speaker 1: and Inside the Birds our Patreon folks will still get
- 28:21Speaker 1: great live stream to Andrew d Cheko will still be
- 28:23Speaker 1: doing to Checko daily. So the Eagles season's over, but
- 28:26Speaker 1: for Inside the Birds it's just a new season beginning.
- 28:28Speaker 1: So we want to thank everybody who's been with us
- 28:31Speaker 1: along the way throughout this regular season, from the OTAs

- 28:43Speaker 1: It's just a new season that is about to start.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So for also, I want to thank you Gunner and
- 28:48Speaker 1: Ray Diddingjerk, great job Birds Weekly, Barrett Brooks for filling
- 28:51Speaker 1: in as well there Sam Finkel Inside the Data that
- 28:54Speaker 1: will also continue in the off season. It was a
- 28:57Speaker 1: fabulous addition to Inside the Birds. Am I missing anybody?
- 29:00Speaker 1: I think the BCB partnership to do a radio show
- 29:03Speaker 1: every Tuesday night that goes all the way to the
- 29:05Speaker 1: Super Bowl? Correct?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it would be Andrew and I Roosevelt Bulvard. Oh,
- 29:08Speaker 2: I'm glad you mentioned that on Tuesday at six pmmes,
- 29:11Speaker 2: please stop by and say hello.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Please.
- 29:14Speaker 2: In fact, the last time we're there, we met a firefighter.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I forget the guy's name. Super nice guy. The two
- 29:21Speaker 2: guys knew both Andrew and I were. It was pretty cool.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So look forward to seeing folks out there. Don't frets
- 29:26Speaker 2: have a lot of draft picks. How he's tireless. Nick's
- 29:29Speaker 2: a very good head coach. He's not without fault. Obviously,
- 29:33Speaker 2: nobody's perfect. He's got to point the finger at himself.
- 29:35Speaker 2: He didn't do a great job this season for a
- 29:37Speaker 2: lot of reasons. Will break even down more as we
- 29:40Speaker 2: go forward, But guys, a heck of a head coach
- 29:42Speaker 2: just didn't have a great season. They had an early
- 29:45Speaker 2: exit earlier than we all thought it would. To be
- 29:46Speaker 2: honest with you, we all got it wrong. We picked
- 29:48Speaker 2: it wrong. So what could I tell you?
- 29:50Speaker 1: That's true? All right, last people, I gotta think we
- 29:53Speaker 1: had tremendous work from our interns this year. Donovan Worthy,
- 29:56Speaker 1: Xander Jackson, Nikki pal Masano and of course sort of
- 29:59Speaker 1: not an intro anymore. He works for Ben Paul always
- 30:02Speaker 1: doing a great job with the website, the newsletter and
- 30:05Speaker 1: everything else. We would be nothing without them, so we
- 30:07Speaker 1: thank them. And of course we'd be nothing without our
- 30:09Speaker 1: great Inside the Birds listeners, viewers, readers, you're all the
- 30:14Speaker 1: best and thanks for sticking with us all season long.
- 30:16Speaker 1: For Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. You've been watching Inside
- 30:21Speaker 1: the Birds postgame show on Inside the Birds
