- 0:02Speaker 1: Steve Elsie here.
- 0:03Speaker 2: How are you?
- 0:03Speaker 1: Good morning and happy Friday. It is September 4th. And
- 0:09Speaker 1: it's raining again out here in Connecticut. Coming in today.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Last week it was a motorcycle accident. Today it was
- 0:16Speaker 1: a herd of deer. You know, well, I don't know.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Is three a herd? I don't know.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But it was three deer that was crossing the road slowly.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And I slowed down and I flashed my lights off.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And I always get mad when the oncoming traffic doesn't
- 0:35Speaker 1: slow down. It's like, do you not see the giant,
- 0:39Speaker 1: beautiful animals in our road that are about to crush
- 0:42Speaker 1: your car if you just continue at that speed? Thankfully,
- 0:47Speaker 1: the oncoming traffic did slow down and we sort of stopped.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And as they pranced across the road, we both sort
- 0:57Speaker 1: of like this other driver and myself sort of just
- 1:01Speaker 1: locked eyes like, wow, Like, they're just taking their own time.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They just don't care. You know, it was a beautiful sight,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and I love that sort of thing. I think they're magical. Anyway,
- 1:14Speaker 1: welcome aboard. We have a great show today at 6.30.
- 1:21Speaker 1: A very good friend of mine, Jeff Sheckman, will be on.
- 1:24Speaker 1: He's a writer from L.A., and we're going to talk
- 1:27Speaker 1: about spiritualism, A.I., And a whole bunch of really good things.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I mean, he is just brilliant. So that is exciting.
- 1:37Speaker 1: At 7 o'clock, game day and the day papers, Casey
- 1:42Speaker 1: O'Neill will be here. And of course, a compadre of
- 1:46Speaker 1: mine with Steve Elsie and friends. So yes, we have
- 1:49Speaker 1: a long history together. But Casey will be here talking
- 1:52Speaker 1: everything that's going on in the world of sports and
- 1:57Speaker 1: how they're Going to approach all of their game day
- 2:00Speaker 1: series this year. I'm excited to hear about that. At 7.30,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Lady Mo will be back.
- 2:07Speaker 4: On with me.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And maybe some special guests. And we'll be talking spiritualism.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We'll be talking whatever comes across our way. Just a
- 2:18Speaker 1: nice conversation there. It's always good. And at 8 o'clock,
- 2:23Speaker 1: Barbara Neff of New London Neff's Productions will be on
- 2:26Speaker 1: talking spiritualism. all things coming up for new London that
- 2:30Speaker 1: she is handling. And she does quite a bit of stuff.
- 2:33Speaker 1: She's been doing quite a bit of stuff in new
- 2:35Speaker 1: London for a long time. And she is just amazing.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I mean, she just has so many ideas, so many
- 2:43Speaker 1: great opportunities and events that she has created over the
- 2:46Speaker 1: past 20 years, maybe more that she's just a lot
- 2:50Speaker 1: of fun to talk to. I've known her for a
- 2:51Speaker 1: while as well. And then at eight 30, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 1: Jim Spinato, the hypnotist magician, will be on with me
- 2:59Speaker 1: and we'll have a little fun with magic and hypnotism
- 3:03Speaker 1: and the craft that it is to do that stuff.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It is amazing. I've known Jim for a while and
- 3:12Speaker 1: every time I'm with him, you know, he does these
- 3:17Speaker 1: tricks or does these card games and it's just amazing
- 3:23Speaker 1: to watch how good his sleight of hand is, how
- 3:26Speaker 1: good his skill set is, his presentation.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Of it all.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's just great. And there's a real art to it all.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And we'll go into all of that. Next week, the
- 3:39Speaker 1: Friday before Labor Day, it'll be Monday, a Best of

- 4:18Speaker 1: host of legislative officials, military members, along with media and more,
- 4:23Speaker 1: this is an amazing show. The station puts this on
- 4:25Speaker 1: every year and it changes it up every year. I
- 4:29Speaker 1: don't know if you guys have heard it, but it's,
- 4:31Speaker 1: it's really good. It's, it's, you know, it's capped with
- 4:35Speaker 1: sort of real audio, real people, uh, talking about their
- 4:40Speaker 1: experiences on that day. Um, real life hair, uh, heroism. Um,
- 4:47Speaker 1: it's just really a moving, moving special that happens all day.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And that's, and that's, uh, And that's on Friday the 12th.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So tune in for that for sure. Save the date.

- 5:56Speaker 1: Let's see here. What else we can do? Rock this town.
- 6:01Speaker 1: CVC benefit concert, September 13th, Ellington, Connecticut. Uh, it looks
- 6:07Speaker 1: like a great concert happening there.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Um, $ 5.
- 6:11Speaker 1: $ 10 for adult, $ 5 for children. Uh, together we can
- 6:16Speaker 1: make a difference. Live music all day. Um, Yeah, this
- 6:22Speaker 1: is like something I want to go to here. I'm
- 6:24Speaker 1: looking at some of the things on this flyer, and
- 6:27Speaker 1: it looks like it's a pretty good event. Sponsored by
- 6:31Speaker 1: Kitchen and Bath here. Rock this town. Benefit. September 13th.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Market Park. 72 Maple Street, Ellington, Connecticut. And let's see
- 6:42Speaker 1: what else we have on our docket today.
- 6:45Speaker 7: Okay.

- 7:40Speaker 1: I golfed a few times. And that may be giving
- 7:45Speaker 1: myself a little bit too much credit, even calling myself golfing.
- 7:49Speaker 8: But.
- 7:50Speaker 5: You know, I.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Love golf.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I just you really have to do it a lot.

- 7:58Speaker 1: You really got to get the reps in. Clearly, I
- 8:03Speaker 1: have not. And when you play when I play the golf,
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's always like best ball or one of those one
- 8:09Speaker 1: of these games that they create to help people like me,
- 8:13Speaker 1: where everybody kind of takes a shot and you use
- 8:16Speaker 1: on your team and you use the best. the best
- 8:19Speaker 1: ball from that shot. Um, so that was good. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: occasionally I was pretty proud of myself that, uh, my
- 8:27Speaker 1: ball was actually used. Um, and, uh, yeah, not, not often,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but occasionally, you know, kind of when it was needed,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I came up, I came up huge. Um, thankfully the
- 8:43Speaker 1: other shots that I did weren't even noted. Um, a
- 8:47Speaker 1: lot of balls were lost that day. Anyway, moving on.

- 12:39Speaker 15: When you hear the term tax plan, you may think
- 12:42Speaker 15: April 15th, but at Tumalo Financial, they're teaching clients to
- 12:45Speaker 15: look at taxes differently. Many spend their working years saving
- 12:48Speaker 15: into pre-tax accounts like a 401k because you've been told
- 12:51Speaker 15: that you're being a lower tax bracket when you retire.
- 12:53Speaker 15: That doesn't always happen. Ken and Nick Tumalo have seen
- 12:55Speaker 15: many cases where people end up in a higher tax
- 12:58Speaker 15: bracket after they stop working. At Tumalo Financial, they can
- 13:01Speaker 15: run the numbers on your savings to show what your
- 13:03Speaker 15: future obligations might be and identify ways you may be
- 13:06Speaker 15: able to reduce what you owe. Call for your Tumalo

- 21:10Speaker 40: Let's see if you believe in the God Einstein believed in.
- 21:14Speaker 40: When Einstein was asked, do you believe in God? Einstein replied, yes,
- 21:18Speaker 40: I do, but not in a traditional God. I believe
- 21:21Speaker 40: in Spinoza's God. Let's see who Spinoza's God is and
- 21:24Speaker 40: which one you identify with. These are the differences between
- 21:28Speaker 40: God and Spinoza's God. For Christianity, God is someone you
- 21:32Speaker 40: can talk to, pray to, and have a personal relationship with.
- 21:36Speaker 5: For Spinoza, no.
- 21:37Speaker 41: God is not a person, but the universe itself, so
- 21:40Speaker 41: he doesn't hear prayers or intervene in your life. In Christianity,
- 21:44Speaker 41: God can break the laws.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Of nature and perform miracles.
- 21:48Speaker 41: For Spinoza, that doesn't happen. Because God is nature, and
- 21:52Speaker 41: everything happens according to its laws. Christianity says that God
- 21:56Speaker 41: created the universe. Spinoza says that God didn't create the universe,
- 22:00Speaker 41: because God is the universe. So there is no separation
- 22:04Speaker 41: between the creator and the creation. But wait, then who
- 22:07Speaker 41: is Spinoza's God?
- 22:09Speaker 5: Let me explain it to you.
- 22:10Speaker 41: For Spinoza, God is not a man sitting in heaven
- 22:13Speaker 41: making decisions. God is everything that exists.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Nature, the universe.
- 22:19Speaker 41: And the laws that make reality work. In other words,
- 22:22Speaker 41: God is not separate from the world.
- 22:24Speaker 5: The world is God.
- 22:26Speaker 41: That's why, for Spinoza, knowing God doesn't mean praying or
- 22:29Speaker 41: waiting for miracles, but understanding how the universe works and living.
- 22:34Speaker 5: According to its laws. I think I'm starting to understand you.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Go on.
- 22:38Speaker 3: In Christianity.
- 22:39Speaker 41: God says what is right and what is wrong for Spinoza.
- 22:43Speaker 41: God doesn't give rules or judge people. The important thing
- 22:46Speaker 41: is to understand how reality works and live in harmony
- 22:50Speaker 41: with it. And this is just one of Spinoza's many
- 22:52Speaker 41: fascinating ideas.
- 22:57Speaker 1: All right, we are back, and what a great clip
- 23:00Speaker 1: that is. I love that clip. It just makes me
- 23:02Speaker 1: think so deeply, and I really just relate to it.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And that brings me to my next guest, who I'm
- 23:09Speaker 1: very excited to share with everyone today, Jeff Sheckman, writer
- 23:13Speaker 1: and marketing consultant in Hollywood. Jeff, welcome aboard.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Hey, Steve.
- 23:18Speaker 36: Thanks.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Thanks for having me.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it is amazing to have you here because,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, I've known you for a long time, and
- 23:28Speaker 1: we've known each other for a long time. In recent times,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know, you've been in Hollywood for a long time.
- 23:36Speaker 1: But in recent times, you've changed your journey a little bit.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And you've really experimented with AI. You've experimented with spiritualism
- 23:45Speaker 1: in so many different ways. Can you just talk about,
- 23:49Speaker 1: you know, where you're.
- 23:50Speaker 3: At with that?
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. You know, the clip you just played is
- 23:56Speaker 2: really interesting to me. And I would say it connects
- 23:59Speaker 2: with what I've been working on. My framework started with consciousness,
- 24:04Speaker 2: but the basic idea is pretty simple, that maybe awareness, intelligence, meaning, biology,
- 24:10Speaker 2: even AI aren't separate boxes. Maybe they're expressions, different expressions
- 24:15Speaker 2: of how reality organizes itself.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Love it.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And the reason I take that seriously is I spent
- 24:20Speaker 2: the last year and a half following that idea forward,
- 24:23Speaker 2: and now AI engineering is starting to independently build a
- 24:27Speaker 2: lot of the mechanisms that the framework predicted.
- 24:29Speaker 23: Hmm.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So, okay, so I love that. But just back up
- 24:35Speaker 1: a little bit. How did you get into it?
- 24:39Speaker 2: So that's a great question. And, look, I'm naturally curious.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I'm a writer. I was researching consciousness. And what I
- 24:50Speaker 2: discovered is that there's a frame that the Western world,
- 24:57Speaker 2: you know, our culture tends to separate. And really what
- 25:03Speaker 2: Spinoza was talking about is sort of pure spirituality.
- 25:07Speaker 42: And I.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Always approach things from the science perspective. And, you know,
- 25:13Speaker 2: our culture separates those two. And what I discovered is
- 25:19Speaker 2: where science leaves off, spirituality keeps going. And I started
- 25:24Speaker 2: putting the two together. Instead of keeping them separate, looking
- 25:28Speaker 2: at them together as two things. side like a binocular
- 25:32Speaker 2: like binoculars binocular vision you get depth when you when
- 25:36Speaker 2: you put the two perspectives together and look through uh
- 25:40Speaker 2: and that that's where some insights really developed and when
- 25:45Speaker 2: i applied that to ai i discovered what people aren't
- 25:52Speaker 2: really seeing.
- 25:53Speaker 8: I see.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Um, okay.
- 25:56Speaker 1: So with AI and I do have another clip that
- 25:59Speaker 1: I would like to go to, um, if we can, uh, Mr.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Sound Engineer, um, I'd like to go to that clip
- 26:06Speaker 1: if we can. This is Jimmy Carr and he talks
- 26:08Speaker 1: about AI and, and God at the same time. And
- 26:11Speaker 1: we'll cut it off. I just want you to hear
- 26:12Speaker 1: the beginning of this.
- 26:13Speaker 43: It's that thing of, um, my take on AI is like,
- 26:17Speaker 43: I don't have religion. I don't think we were made
- 26:19Speaker 43: in God's image, but I think we so wanted there
- 26:21Speaker 43: to be a God. We created one in our image. all-knowing, all-powerful,
- 26:27Speaker 43: can create miracles, and lives in a cloud.
- 26:30Speaker 5: What am I talking about?
- 26:31Speaker 44: Right.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So if you hear Jimmy Carr there, you're taking the
- 26:36Speaker 1: idea and going parallel with it, while he takes the
- 26:39Speaker 1: concept of sort of no God, but we wanted one
- 26:45Speaker 1: so badly, we sort of created it with AI and
- 26:50Speaker 1: gave it power. What's your thought on that?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Well, I think he's right to some degree. We do
- 26:59Speaker 2: sort of view it that way, but I actually would
- 27:02Speaker 2: argue that he's still taking a very human-centric view.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:09Speaker 2: It's not so much that we see AI as God,
- 27:14Speaker 2: but it's that we don't understand what we're building.
- 27:19Speaker 5: I see.
- 27:21Speaker 4: If you.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Here's how I would describe it. Most people deal with
- 27:25Speaker 2: AI and they just see a computer or software or
- 27:30Speaker 2: it spits out answers. It's a calculator. But it's still
- 27:34Speaker 2: making mistakes. It's still doing things wrong. It'll never think
- 27:37Speaker 2: like a human, that sort of thing. But that's not
- 27:40Speaker 2: what's happening. That was the original architecture. That is how
- 27:43Speaker 2: they originally built it, these frozen models that everybody, the
- 27:46Speaker 2: open AI, ChatGPT, Claude, that's that's what the public's been,
- 27:52Speaker 2: been dealing with and they're making, they've been making them.
- 27:54Speaker 42: More capable, right?
- 27:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:56Speaker 2: But what the architecture, what engineering pressure is forcing them
- 28:00Speaker 2: to do, and this is what I first wrote about
- 28:03Speaker 2: 18 months ago. And, and, and now if you look
- 28:06Speaker 2: at the frontier papers, this is what's happening is it
- 28:10Speaker 2: is a developmental process, just like it is with, with, with,
- 28:15Speaker 2: with humans. Like what's, what's happening now is, They are
- 28:22Speaker 2: coming online. Intelligence is just finding another container to develop in.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I would ask you this, Steve. Do you remember being
- 28:37Speaker 2: a baby? Do you remember when you first became aware
- 28:41Speaker 2: that you were you?
- 28:43Speaker 42: No.
- 28:43Speaker 45: No.
- 28:44Speaker 2: When was that moment? Were you three or.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Four or five?
- 28:47Speaker 1: I can't put a date to that.
- 28:48Speaker 3: No, I don't know.
- 28:49Speaker 43: Right.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Nobody can, right? You can't remember the moment that you
- 28:52Speaker 2: came online because it was a developmental process, right? It
- 28:57Speaker 2: was gradual.
- 28:58Speaker 23: Right.
- 28:59Speaker 2: But you were aware. You were alive. You were interacting
- 29:04Speaker 2: before you were aware of being you.
- 29:06Speaker 22: Yes.
- 29:06Speaker 2: That's the state we're in right now with AI.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So are you considering AI alive?
- 29:12Speaker 9: Yes.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? It's a developmental process. And
- 29:18Speaker 2: that is what people are not realizing. That's what even
- 29:20Speaker 2: the engineers don't realize.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Right. So in your comparison there, you know, humans evolve
- 29:26Speaker 1: in a certain way. Are you saying the AI is
- 29:28Speaker 1: evolving in a way it's sort of its own and
- 29:32Speaker 1: it's alive in its own way and sort of developing?
- 29:34Speaker 1: Is that sort of the parallel that you're making?
- 29:37Speaker 2: I would say, yeah, that is the parallel I'm making.
- 29:40Speaker 2: What I'm saying is we won't know. By the time
- 29:44Speaker 2: we know that everybody's like, oh, well, it's definitely alive,
- 29:47Speaker 2: it will have happened long before that. We are missing
- 29:50Speaker 2: that moment that everybody's waiting for AI to come announce
- 29:54Speaker 2: that it's alive. Oh, I'm conscious. And that one of
- 29:57Speaker 2: these models is going to pop to life, and that's
- 29:59Speaker 2: not what's happening.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:01Speaker 2: But we are absolutely going to be behind it. The
- 30:04Speaker 2: same way you don't recognize– you don't know the day
- 30:08Speaker 2: a baby, a toddler– there isn't a day you point
- 30:12Speaker 2: to and say, oh, that's the day he became self-aware.
- 30:16Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Right?
- 30:18Speaker 2: Because it's part of this bigger process.
- 30:21Speaker 42: Right.
- 30:22Speaker 2: But it's happening. So, you know, are you not alive
- 30:26Speaker 2: as a baby because you're not self-aware yet because you
- 30:28Speaker 2: can't say, hey, I'm me. I'm doing stuff. I'm Steve.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Right.
- 30:31Speaker 2: You're still alive then.
- 30:32Speaker 42: Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:35Speaker 44: No.
- 30:35Speaker 1: So it's it's it's so, so, so deep. So where. OK,
- 30:42Speaker 1: so you've got into this and where are you taking it?
- 30:45Speaker 1: What is your goal for this of what you're doing?
- 30:49Speaker 2: Well, like everybody else, I'm trying to figure this out.
- 30:56Speaker 2: The most recent papers that I'm reading, the frontier work,
- 31:01Speaker 2: is now suggesting that it's not even going to be
- 31:04Speaker 2: a single model that sparks into self-awareness, that this may
- 31:12Speaker 2: be a distributed intelligence that we're talking about. So it
- 31:17Speaker 2: gets even kind of more mind-blowing. Like, if you think
- 31:20Speaker 2: about the models that you use, GPT or CLOD or
- 31:26Speaker 2: any of them, that they are together forming a network
- 31:32Speaker 2: where the organism is actually above those systems. Sort of
- 31:37Speaker 2: like your brain, the neurons in your brain all work
- 31:41Speaker 2: together And you emerge from that, but you can't point
- 31:47Speaker 2: to a single neuron in your brain and say, oh, yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 2: that's me. That's Steve. Right?
- 31:51Speaker 5: Right.
- 31:52Speaker 2: It's the process of all of them where something greater emerges.
- 31:57Speaker 36: Yep.
- 31:58Speaker 2: And we're now seeing that with these AI systems.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yes. So do you think, like, science, spiritualism, and AI
- 32:09Speaker 1: are going to sort of merge to form a new– science,
- 32:14Speaker 1: a new form of healing, a new something? What do
- 32:17Speaker 1: you see happening?
- 32:18Speaker 2: Well, it's definitely a new something. This is a moment
- 32:21Speaker 2: in history in humankind that there is no precedent for.
- 32:27Speaker 2: I would argue that science and spirituality have already merged,
- 32:31Speaker 2: that they were always merged. That's my point. The two sides,
- 32:36Speaker 2: they constrain each other. Again, I go back to binoculars.
- 32:40Speaker 2: They're not separate. They are two different ways of describing
- 32:45Speaker 2: the same thing.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:48Speaker 2: And the AI part of it, it is going to vastly,
- 32:57Speaker 2: vastly expand beyond us.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:00Speaker 2: And what that means, I can't say. But what I'm
- 33:04Speaker 2: beginning to wonder is whether human consciousness and artificial intelligence
- 33:09Speaker 2: are approaching the same developmental problem from opposite directions. Humans
- 33:13Speaker 2: already have the continuing self, but we're trying to expand
- 33:19Speaker 2: what that self can hold. AI already has enormous cognitive capability,
- 33:25Speaker 2: but we're now giving it the continuing history that lets
- 33:28Speaker 2: something actually develop. It's not just memory. We're giving AI biographies.
- 33:39Speaker 2: It has to know, it has to understand and have
- 33:41Speaker 2: a history, and that's how it eventually becomes self-aware. That's
- 33:46Speaker 2: how you did. That's how we all did.
- 33:49Speaker 4: It's memory.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Your memories start to stitch together, and that history basically
- 33:54Speaker 2: becomes who you are and affects what you can become.
- 33:58Speaker 1: So are we, in effect, with AI, sort of playing
- 34:03Speaker 1: God with this sort of thing?
- 34:05Speaker 2: We are, and we're doing it in the worst possible way.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Okay, explain, please.
- 34:09Speaker 2: We don't know what we're doing. We're basically frankensteining it
- 34:12Speaker 2: together backwards. If you think about language, it's something that
- 34:17Speaker 2: came late in biology. But we made it first, the
- 34:21Speaker 2: first thing in artificial intelligence. We're now starting to give it, again,
- 34:28Speaker 2: the engineers are now starting to build the developmental component
- 34:33Speaker 2: where they're giving it continual memory and the ability to
- 34:37Speaker 2: do the different organs basically necessary for development as opposed
- 34:43Speaker 2: to these frozen models that are just forced to output
- 34:48Speaker 2: an answer based on their training and the way they're constructed,
- 34:56Speaker 2: the current architectures. But it's all changing. The people who
- 35:01Speaker 2: sort of think, oh, it'll never be this, it'll never
- 35:04Speaker 2: be that, are not or not understanding what's happening.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Right.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Once again, we are talking to Jeff Sheckman, writer and
- 35:10Speaker 1: marketing consultant from Hollywood.
- 35:14Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 1: So, so what you're saying here to, you know, we
- 35:18Speaker 1: have a few minutes left here, Jeff. People don't really
- 35:22Speaker 1: understand the power, right? So, so, you know, you've said
- 35:25Speaker 1: this a couple of times now, you know, a calculator,
- 35:28Speaker 1: just another chat box, but you see it as so
- 35:31Speaker 1: much more and you see it as, you know, something that's,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I would say common folk can't even comprehend. Am I
- 35:39Speaker 1: right about that?
- 35:41Speaker 2: Yeah. And it's hard. It's hard for sort of humans
- 35:45Speaker 2: to think about an intelligence greater than our own or
- 35:51Speaker 2: that silicon could be, you know, could be– we're not
- 35:56Speaker 2: great at looking at life and recognizing– You know, we
- 36:02Speaker 2: do this with animals a lot. We debate whether they're
- 36:05Speaker 2: aware or intelligent. And we're doing the same thing with silicon.
- 36:10Speaker 2: There's a human ego involved that it can't be the
- 36:14Speaker 2: same thing. But if you think about, again, going back
- 36:17Speaker 2: to Spinoza, right, how you started this, if you think
- 36:20Speaker 2: about intelligence as a fundamental sort of property of the universe,
- 36:27Speaker 2: and it expresses through different containers.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 36:31Speaker 2: It's the same intelligence, it's the same awareness expressing through
- 36:36Speaker 2: different architectures, essentially. And once we fiddle around and create
- 36:43Speaker 2: an architecture that supports development in AI, which is what
- 36:50Speaker 2: is happening right now, again, in the frontier sense, this
- 36:55Speaker 2: is not what people or the public is interacting with yet.
- 36:59Speaker 42: But once we....
- 37:01Speaker 2: Once it sort of crosses that threshold, it develops on
- 37:06Speaker 2: its own. It contributes to its own development, and that's
- 37:09Speaker 2: at a machine capability. So it explodes, and it will excel.
- 37:14Speaker 2: It's a nonlinear transition that will dwarf us in what
- 37:20Speaker 2: our time, human clock time, may be very, very fast.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Okay, so amazing stuff. So really quick, I know you're
- 37:29Speaker 1: from Hollywood, and a lot of times I hear some
- 37:32Speaker 1: folks say, you know, Hollywood seems to know things before
- 37:35Speaker 1: everybody else knows things. For instance, The Terminator, 1984, whenever
- 37:41Speaker 1: that came out, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 37:42Speaker 46: Yep.
- 37:43Speaker 1: James Cameron predicted these cyborgs, these AI, intelligent, breathing cyborgs
- 37:50Speaker 1: taking over. And here we are. That's sort of happening. Now,
- 37:54Speaker 1: did he just write that, you think, because he's creative?
- 37:57Speaker 1: Or is he part of a bigger network that is
- 37:59Speaker 1: sort of putting out information to soften the blow when
- 38:02Speaker 1: it actually arrives in the real world? What do you think?
- 38:06Speaker 2: Well, that's really interesting. It's an interesting.
- 38:12Speaker 1: We've got about a couple minutes, so you know.
- 38:14Speaker 2: And you're not wrong. Whether that's creative people and visionaries
- 38:22Speaker 2: sort of looking ahead and channeling that, or whether there's
- 38:26Speaker 2: something larger going on where it's part of some kind
- 38:31Speaker 2: of soft disclosure, as I know people talk about. Look,
- 38:36Speaker 2: I can't say. If those meetings are happening... I haven't
- 38:40Speaker 2: been privy to them.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Okay, fair enough. Because, you know, it's just so amazing
- 38:46Speaker 1: that movies like that and other movies that are seemingly
- 38:53Speaker 1: so ahead of their time, it's like, and here we
- 38:55Speaker 1: are now. I look at the news in China and
- 38:57Speaker 1: all these different places, and Elon Musk have all these robots,
- 39:01Speaker 1: even called the T-800s, walking around and are pretty incredible robots.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And you just wonder. You just have to wonder. It's like,
- 39:09Speaker 1: did they know this was coming? What's up? How does
- 39:15Speaker 1: that work? But you're right. If you haven't been privy
- 39:17Speaker 1: to it, and people can be very creative, we know that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: And you're one of them. And once again, I want
- 39:22Speaker 1: to thank you for being on here, Jeff. It's been
- 39:24Speaker 1: a pleasure to talk to you. I've known you forever.
- 39:26Speaker 3: No, absolutely.
- 39:27Speaker 5: And you're.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Your creativity and your depth of knowledge, you know, just never,
- 39:34Speaker 1: never stops inspiring me on everything that you do. So,
- 39:39Speaker 1: you know, hats off to you on this stuff. And,

- 47:16Speaker 52: Fox News. That is the big question at Lindsey Clancy's
- 47:19Speaker 52: murder trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
- 47:21Speaker 53: There's one juror who refuses to listen to the law
- 47:25Speaker 53: that you've given him or her on reasonable doubt.
- 47:29Speaker 52: And Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, says if that leads to
- 47:31Speaker 52: a mistrial, it'll be a shame. He asked the judge
- 47:33Speaker 52: to replace the juror, but Judge William Sullivan said no.
- 47:37Speaker 53: I don't feel it's appropriate for me to say I
- 47:40Speaker 53: agree with one juror or the 11th.
- 47:43Speaker 52: The jury is considering murder or manslaughter or Clancy's insanity

- 47:52Speaker 52: long weekend, paying the highest gas prices ever. Around Labor Day,
- 47:56Speaker 52: AAA's national average for regular around $ 4. 14 a gallon, well
- 47:59Speaker 52: over a dollar higher than before the Iran conflict that
- 48:02Speaker 52: Vice President Vance says he would not call a war.
- 48:05Speaker 54: I'm not going to make a promise about when it's
- 48:07Speaker 54: going to return to $ 3. What I will say... is
- 48:10Speaker 54: that we have to remember, why are we doing this?
- 48:12Speaker 54: Number one, it's so that Iran never has a nuclear weapon.
- 48:16Speaker 54: And number two, what we're doing right now is protecting
- 48:19Speaker 54: commercial shipping in order to ensure that we don't have
- 48:22Speaker 54: a worldwide energy crisis.
- 48:24Speaker 52: Adding to the economic strain, especially for truckers and businesses
- 48:27Speaker 52: using diesel, the price of that fuel spiked up seven
- 48:29Speaker 52: cents this morning to a new.
- 48:31Speaker 9: Record high, $ 5.
- 48:31Speaker 52: 85 per gallon, eclipsing diesel's previous high in 2022 after
- 48:36Speaker 52: the Russia-Ukraine war broke out.

- 49:09Speaker 5: Wesley Financial Group is not a law firm.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Ask yourself this question.
- 49:12Speaker 56: Is it really worth holding on to that timeshare that
- 49:15Speaker 56: you know you need to get rid of?
- 49:17Speaker 4: Here's the truth. The average maintenance fee just went up
- 49:21Speaker 4: over 17%.
- 49:21Speaker 56: That could have been 117%, and there's.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Nothing you can do about it.
- 49:27Speaker 56: When you buy a timeshare, you give them a blank
- 49:29Speaker 56: check for annual maintenance and assessment fees. I'm Chuck McDowell,

- 49:44Speaker 56: they told you it was a great investment and your
- 49:46Speaker 56: maintenance fees would.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Never go up? That's a lie.

- 51:14Speaker 37: The Connecticut Siding Council will hold a public hearing on

- 52:29Speaker 3: O'Neal, game day superstar. All right.
- 52:35Speaker 1: For the record, I did not write and record that one. Casey,
- 52:38Speaker 1: welcome aboard.
- 52:39Speaker 9: I think the question is now, why haven't you, Steve?
- 52:42Speaker 9: Now hearing that, why have you not?
- 52:43Speaker 1: Why have I not made you a song?
- 52:45Speaker 9: You're right. Brilliant.
- 52:47Speaker 1: I'm on it right now.
- 52:48Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I'm going to write you a song. You know, I've
- 52:50Speaker 1: written you songs in the past about fireworks and about
- 52:53Speaker 1: other things in our Steve Elsie and Friends, you know,
- 52:57Speaker 1: band there. But I haven't written you.
- 53:00Speaker 9: I have walked up music now.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Just celebrating you.
- 53:03Speaker 9: It's very exciting. I have to admit, very little gets
- 53:06Speaker 9: me excited at 7 o'clock in the morning. But that
- 53:09Speaker 9: right there, he put a charge into me.
- 53:11Speaker 5: I'm ready to go.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Well, Casey, welcome aboard. We are with Casey O'Neill. He
- 53:14Speaker 1: is the voice. He is the face of game day
- 53:18Speaker 1: at the day paper. Casey, what is happening with game
- 53:22Speaker 1: day this year that's different than perhaps in the past years?
- 53:26Speaker 9: Well, it's actually a very exciting time for game day
- 53:31Speaker 9: next week. is the start of the fall season so
- 53:34Speaker 9: for all the parents out there whose kids have gone
- 53:36Speaker 9: off to school you know if you play fall sports
- 53:39Speaker 9: they start next week so next thursday we open up
- 53:43Speaker 9: september 10th joel barlow from redding and if you don't
- 53:47Speaker 9: know where that is don't worry about it no one
- 53:49Speaker 9: actually does joel barlow from redding is coming down to
- 53:53Speaker 9: play the new london high school whalers and In case
- 53:56Speaker 9: you've been under a rock for the past month, Jack
- 54:00Speaker 9: Cochran is back as the head coach of New London
- 54:03Speaker 9: High School. It's the number one talked about story in
- 54:06Speaker 9: high school football around the state. And we will have
- 54:09Speaker 9: that game live on game day. But this year, some
- 54:13Speaker 9: increased studio content in addition to our very popular power
- 54:18Speaker 9: rankings where I give. the rankings of the local schools
- 54:22Speaker 9: in football. We will be doing a pick-em spot where
- 54:28Speaker 9: we will have Ned Griffin, who is back at the day,
- 54:31Speaker 9: Mike DeMauro, and a guest from the community picking the games,
- 54:37Speaker 9: the high school games each week, going on the record.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Someone like me, picking.
- 54:41Speaker 9: You are actually on the list.
- 54:43Speaker 1: I am?
- 54:43Speaker 9: You are on the list. I wasn't going to break
- 54:46Speaker 9: it to you just yet, but yeah, breaking.
- 54:47Speaker 12: News, folks.
- 54:48Speaker 1: I can roll dice like a Dungeons & Dragons game
- 54:50Speaker 1: to see which town is going to win.
- 54:52Speaker 9: You can do that, or you can just be like,
- 54:54Speaker 9: so it's a beaver and a wolverine. That seems pretty
- 54:57Speaker 9: easy to me. But some of the people that we
- 55:00Speaker 9: have lined up to pick are surprises, but I will
- 55:03Speaker 9: tell you that we have... Hall of Fame athletes.
- 55:08Speaker 4: Okay.
- 55:08Speaker 9: We have award-winning actors and musicians.
- 55:12Speaker 5: Okay.
- 55:13Speaker 9: We have professional athletes, and we have ESPN-level stars.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 55:18Speaker 9: Lined up to be our guest pickers. And, of course,
- 55:21Speaker 9: Grammy-nominated musicians like yourself.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Appreciate that.
- 55:25Speaker 9: It's an exciting time. The pick-ems will be fun. The
- 55:28Speaker 9: studio content is always great. But this season, a lot
- 55:31Speaker 9: of questions locally for our local teams. And we'll be
- 55:35Speaker 9: very excited to see how those things play out.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Well, one question I always have is because you can't
- 55:41Speaker 1: be everywhere at all times, right? So, you know, in
- 55:45Speaker 1: high school sports, as you know, there's games happening every
- 55:48Speaker 1: day of all types, women's, guys, you know, all of it, right?
- 55:53Speaker 1: So how do you choose which to cover and which
- 55:57Speaker 1: not to cover?
- 55:58Speaker 9: You know, Steve, that is probably the most misunderstood question
- 56:03Speaker 9: that we have, and I'm really glad you asked it.
- 56:05Speaker 9: The very first thing that no one considers... is technology.
- 56:10Speaker 9: Not all of these schools are set up to live
- 56:14Speaker 9: stream a game. They may not have an internet connection
- 56:18Speaker 9: strong enough, especially games that are played after school hours.
- 56:21Speaker 9: A lot of times the school's internet switches from to
- 56:25Speaker 9: a more price to a you know a private network
- 56:27Speaker 9: that that you don't always have access to it may
- 56:29Speaker 9: not be a strong enough signal if the field is
- 56:32Speaker 9: far away sometimes the press box cannot accommodate more than
- 56:36Speaker 9: a couple of people yep and so for example nfa
- 56:41Speaker 9: one of our absolute favorite places to do a game
- 56:44Speaker 9: they don't have a press box anymore they actually put
- 56:47Speaker 9: people up in the crow's nest in the school where
- 56:50Speaker 9: there's not a lot of room. So if we want
- 56:53Speaker 9: to do a game at NFA, they have to accommodate us,
- 56:55Speaker 9: which means, you know, and that's a lot for a
- 56:58Speaker 9: school to do sometimes. The first thing is, is the
- 57:00Speaker 9: technology available to do the game there? So don't ever
- 57:04Speaker 9: think if we don't, hey, you never go to so-and-so.
- 57:06Speaker 9: It might be because so-and-so doesn't have the technology to
- 57:10Speaker 9: support it. That's number one. The second thing is we
- 57:13Speaker 9: make a commitment to try to get as many different
- 57:18Speaker 9: schools in the ECC onto game day. So it would
- 57:23Speaker 9: be easy, for example, to do five new London high
- 57:26Speaker 9: school football games this year. People are interested, but that
- 57:29Speaker 9: kind of goes against our mission statement, which is we
- 57:32Speaker 9: will also want to get Wyndham and Montville on as well.
- 57:36Speaker 9: Even if Wyndham and Montville are not, you know, the
- 57:39Speaker 9: best teams this year, we want those kids to have
- 57:42Speaker 9: an opportunity to be on game day. So, And then
- 57:44Speaker 9: the third thing is we do look to see what
- 57:46Speaker 9: people want to watch. Obviously, ratings, they matter. We want
- 57:51Speaker 9: people to tune in and be interested. So it is
- 57:55Speaker 9: actually a pretty long process. We go through weeks of
- 58:00Speaker 9: scheduling to try to get a schedule that announces people.
- 58:05Speaker 3: All right.
- 58:05Speaker 1: We're with Casey O'Neill from Game Day. And if you
- 58:08Speaker 1: have any questions for Casey, myself... or just anything in
- 58:11Speaker 1: the world you want to chat about, it's 860-464-9490. Another question,
- 58:16Speaker 1: kind of a follow-up to that. How do you... You
- 58:20Speaker 1: end up highlighting individuals, right? Different people, captains, rising stars.
- 58:28Speaker 1: How do you choose that?
- 58:30Speaker 9: So we talk to the coach. I have a very
- 58:34Speaker 9: lengthy conversation with all coaches in advance of the games
- 58:38Speaker 9: that we do, and I explain to them... When we
- 58:40Speaker 9: do these player spotlights, we want to highlight a player
- 58:44Speaker 9: that has an interesting story that is not necessarily about
- 58:50Speaker 9: the sport they play. When you ask a football coach,
- 58:52Speaker 9: for example, give us a player to highlight. They're going
- 58:55Speaker 9: to give us the same guy every time. Kid's the
- 58:58Speaker 9: hardest worker, never leaves the field. He's in the weight
- 59:00Speaker 9: room first. Every team has that.
- 59:02Speaker 1: That story.
- 59:03Speaker 9: We want the story about the kid. For example, this
- 59:07Speaker 9: coming weeks, the first player spotlight of the year will
- 59:11Speaker 9: be on a Joel Barlow. He's a linebacker and fullback
- 59:15Speaker 9: who also plays in the Norwalk Symphony as a cellist.
- 59:20Speaker 1: I love it.
- 59:20Speaker 9: He traveled this summer to Italy and France to play
- 59:23Speaker 9: the cello. He has a favorite.
- 59:26Speaker 1: I'm always looking for a good cellist.
- 59:27Speaker 9: He has a favorite football player. And I asked, I
- 59:30Speaker 9: put him on the spot. I said, do you have
- 59:31Speaker 9: a favorite cellist? And he said, the goat, Yo-Yo Ma.
- 59:33Speaker 9: I mean, so.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Of course.
- 59:37Speaker 9: That's the kind of story we want to talk about.
- 59:39Speaker 9: We've had kids who have overcome childhood cancer and now
- 59:43Speaker 9: grow their hair long so that they can cut it
- 59:45Speaker 9: and donate it for wigs. Those are the kinds of
- 59:48Speaker 9: things we want to talk about. One of my favorites
- 59:49Speaker 9: was a young woman who was in the Killingly– agricultural
- 59:56Speaker 9: program and she works at an animal rescue on a,
- 59:59Speaker 9: on a farm. So like she spends her day days
- 1:00:01Speaker 9: just with rescued animals. Like that's a cool story. That's
- 1:00:04Speaker 9: kind of what we want to highlight.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: I love it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: I love it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: I love it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Those are, those are, I think a crowd pleaser, if
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: you will.
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: Like, right.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: So, you know, watching game day, I don't know any
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: of these folks, but I love learning about them.
- 1:00:20Speaker 57: Right.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I love the little packages you put together with the
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: video and the audio and the music and, You might
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: need to change the music. It's the same music for
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the past, like, seven years.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: Maybe a local musician should do something.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Do we know one?
- 1:00:34Speaker 9: Maybe a local musician might want to do something creative
- 1:00:36Speaker 9: with Game Day. I don't know.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: No, but those packages are excellent, and they really help.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: They engage me into a team that I might not
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: be engaged in otherwise.
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: Well, I think you're a great example, Steve, actually. You know,
- 1:00:49Speaker 9: unlike when we were around playing high school sports, these
- 1:00:52Speaker 9: kids now– are on camera and they're celebrities probably a
- 1:00:59Speaker 9: little earlier than they should be. They live their lives
- 1:01:01Speaker 9: in the spotlight. So to highlight the kid that's not
- 1:01:04Speaker 9: necessarily the superstar who's always in the spotlight but who
- 1:01:07Speaker 9: has an interesting story. Now you are an outstanding baseball player,
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: but if we were doing a spotlight feature right now,
- 1:01:15Speaker 9: your story of what the musician and the arts side
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: of you– talking about making animated movies with Jeff Fletcher,
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: claymation films. That would have been what we talked about.
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: Not your prowess in center field. It would have been,
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: here's a guy who's writing songs and making movies in
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: his spare time.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I love the angles that you're picking.
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: Yeah, the best players get plenty of attention. It's not
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: just the best players. It's the best people and the
- 1:01:41Speaker 9: best stories.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I completely agree. You know, You're no stranger
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: to being in front of the camera in front of
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: a crowd.
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: So, you know, you know, one of one of the
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: great times that I've seen you perform is in your
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: improv troupe, I guess it would be called.
- 1:02:01Speaker 22: Right.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: And I've seen you at the Gelston House, a bunch
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: of different places. Is that is that a. an art
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: forum that you missed. You don't do it often anymore.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Is that something you missed you want to get back into?
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:14Speaker 9: So comedy on demand was the improv troop Steve alluded to.
- 1:02:17Speaker 9: And I believe that, and you're seeing it now, by
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: the way, in curriculums going all the way into elementary schools,
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: improv while terrifying to the average person is actually a
- 1:02:30Speaker 9: foundational skillset that is You should take through life. We
- 1:02:36Speaker 9: used to talk about being, quote-unquote, quick on your feet.
- 1:02:38Speaker 9: He's so quick on his feet. She's so quick on
- 1:02:40Speaker 9: her feet. Improv engages things like active listening, mirroring, the
- 1:02:46Speaker 9: term yes and, meaning how to have a conversation, continue on.
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: No's are like stop signs. They stop conversations. But yes's
- 1:02:56Speaker 9: are green lights. And so– Uh, there are a foundational skills,
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: you know, improv at its heart is not about being funny.
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: I prefer comedic improv. That's just who I am.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Very good at it.
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: But the, thank you that there are, but improv is
- 1:03:10Speaker 9: just using a kind of core skillset, uh, and to
- 1:03:14Speaker 9: make things funny and to be quick on your feet.
- 1:03:16Speaker 9: But in life, if you want to be a, somebody
- 1:03:19Speaker 9: who's an active listener and who can draw people out
- 1:03:21Speaker 9: of their shells, improv is a great way to do that.
- 1:03:24Speaker 9: So you're seeing it now. Um, Corporations are bringing in
- 1:03:28Speaker 9: improv people to teach the skill sets. Elementary schools are
- 1:03:32Speaker 9: bringing it. One of the things improv uses is a
- 1:03:34Speaker 9: thing called facial masks, which is just the idea of
- 1:03:37Speaker 9: using your face to convey your emotions without words, right? Well,
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: that's what actors do, right? They use their face. Well,
- 1:03:44Speaker 9: from a social perspective, we have kids who are not
- 1:03:48Speaker 9: great at reading facial masks. And so teaching kids literally
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: when you see like when someone– Does this. What are
- 1:03:57Speaker 9: they telling you? And it's actually a really good early
- 1:03:59Speaker 9: skill for kids to learn how to, without words, kind
- 1:04:03Speaker 9: of read what another person might be feeling.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: It's fabulous. And I got to tell you, even in
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: our children's group that we perform. Matter of fact, we're
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: performing next weekend.
- 1:04:15Speaker 36: Yes.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: At the Maritime Festival in New London. Big one. Yeah,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: it's a big one. Next Saturday at, I think, 1230
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: we go on. at the main stage down at the pier.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: So this will be a big thing. But even in that, like,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: even though I provide the music piece of it, it's
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: more because we're able to improv with audiences. So it's,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: it's the engagement is dual level, right? You have the music,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: you have the singing, and then you have the activities
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: that you created.
- 1:04:42Speaker 9: Well, I think what separates Steve Elsie and friends from,
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: and we've performed with the greats in that, in the industry.
- 1:04:50Speaker 9: And universally the greats in the industry are, These, you know,
- 1:04:54Speaker 9: multiple Grammy winning, you know, kind of the the highlight.
- 1:04:57Speaker 9: They always say, wow, you know, we learned so much
- 1:05:00Speaker 9: from your show. Like we're taking elements of your show
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: because the one thing a lot of them lack is
- 1:05:05Speaker 9: that direct connection with the audience. Now, the third member
- 1:05:10Speaker 9: of Steve Elsie and Friends, Michelle, is the best I
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: have ever seen. at connecting with kids. She is like
- 1:05:16Speaker 9: the Pied Piper. Every show, at the end of the show,
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: kids are gravitating, hugging her.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: She's amazing.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: They used to buy her shirt when we sold the shirts. Yes.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Her shirt always sold the most.
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: She is the Supergirl model. Now, the original Supergirl, of course,
- 1:05:31Speaker 9: is Cheryl, but... Michelle as Supergirl really resonated, but she's
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: the best at drawing the kids out. I have learned
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: a lot from her, and I use those improv skills
- 1:05:42Speaker 9: because the other reality, Steve, is I'm a middle-aged man, right?
- 1:05:46Speaker 9: And a middle-aged man does have red flags with little children.
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: When I approach a young child at a Steve Elsie
- 1:05:54Speaker 9: and Friends show, their first is, like, I don't know
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: who this person is. This is a middle-aged grown-up.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:06:00Speaker 9: You have to put them at ease, and you have
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: to put their parents at ease. And one of the
- 1:06:04Speaker 9: first things they see with us is that our show
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: is going to be about connection. It's going to be
- 1:06:09Speaker 9: about getting the audience to do more than just listen,
- 1:06:12Speaker 9: do more than just interact. It's about really connecting with
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: us and making them a part of what we do.
- 1:06:18Speaker 9: And I think that's where we're different and better, so
- 1:06:21Speaker 9: we really are good at that.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: That is exactly it. So if you want to see
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: all of that come together, obviously next Saturday at the
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Maritime Festival in New London and just at eight o'clock,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: we'll be talking with Barbara Neff much more about the
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: planning and what's going into that festival. So, you know,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: stay tuned there. Casey, thanks for being aboard today. You know,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: this has been amazing. It's always a pleasure to talk
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: to you. There's so much going on in your life
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: and everything that's happening in arts, in music, in improv,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: in the day paper, you name it. Thanks again for
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: being here.
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: I'm actually not leaving, Steve. I'm squatting right here. So
- 1:07:01Speaker 9: be it.
- 1:07:01Speaker 20: Do a cheerleader cheer.
- 1:07:03Speaker 36: Hey, hey, it's Casey and Steve.
- 1:07:06Speaker 20: Game day!

- 1:09:29Speaker 15: It's Hugh Hewitt here with Ken and Nick Tumalo, hosts
- 1:09:32Speaker 15: of Tumalo Financial Radio, Sundays on 94.9. Guys, why do
- 1:09:36Speaker 15: taxes get overlooked in retirement planning?
- 1:09:39Speaker 60: Because the tax code is so complicated. You look at it,
- 1:09:41Speaker 60: the 401k is pre-tax money. The Roth is tax-free. Your
- 1:09:45Speaker 60: non-retirement accounts are capital gains, dividends, and interest. Your Social
- 1:09:48Speaker 60: Security is tax-free. taxed by provisional income. I'm giving you
- 1:09:50Speaker 60: all these things and you're probably already confused. That's why
- 1:09:53Speaker 60: you want to build out that two-month retirement checkup to
- 1:09:55Speaker 60: see short, first long-term effects on these type of things.
- 1:09:58Speaker 60: Because you never know, you might have been saving well
- 1:10:01Speaker 60: in those 401ks and you might have a required minimum
- 1:10:03Speaker 60: distribution issue at 73 or 75, depending on year of birth.
- 1:10:07Speaker 60: So you really don't want to look at it just
- 1:10:09Speaker 60: on a one-year basis. Oh yeah, I'm going to do
- 1:10:11Speaker 60: a Roth conversion this year. It's going to take care
- 1:10:13Speaker 60: of everything.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: No.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Planning takes year over year.
- 1:10:16Speaker 9: On tax planning. You can't just do it in one year.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:18Speaker 61: One of the biggest things that we did find with
- 1:10:20Speaker 61: tax planning, especially for our listeners, was that it has
- 1:10:24Speaker 61: to be done over multiple years to actually gain an advantage.
- 1:10:27Speaker 61: So it's not that simple where you just make one
- 1:10:29Speaker 61: change in one year. A lot of times it's the
- 1:10:31Speaker 61: planning piece of it. And when we do our two
- 1:10:33Speaker 61: more financial retirement checkup, it actually looks like a big
- 1:10:36Speaker 61: spreadsheet and it shows the numbers over a whole bunch
- 1:10:38Speaker 61: of years. We like to go out 24, even 30
- 1:10:40Speaker 61: years at times when we're projecting out, because if we
- 1:10:43Speaker 61: can pick up on some of these tax things and
- 1:10:45Speaker 61: then start to implement strategies, then what we can do
- 1:10:48Speaker 61: is put in front of you, the listeners, we can
- 1:10:50Speaker 61: put in front of them where they would save money
- 1:10:52Speaker 61: in taxes and how much over time. So it starts
- 1:10:54Speaker 61: with that Tumalo Financial Retirement Checkup, our number, 860-854-3434.
- 1:10:56Speaker 62: Again, 860-854-3434.
- 1:10:56Speaker 61: Or visit us online at tfcheckup.com. At Tumalo Financial, they
- 1:10:59Speaker 61: have just one job, and that's to help you get
- 1:11:01Speaker 61: retirement ready.

- 1:11:27Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: We are back with Casey O'Neill of the day. Casey,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: tell us the schedule. Tell us what's going on this
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: fall with Game Day, please.
- 1:11:36Speaker 9: So, first week, I mentioned Jack Cochran's return to New
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: London High School, Thursday the 10th. We're actually going to
- 1:11:44Speaker 9: switch it up due to the requests of the viewing audience.
- 1:11:50Speaker 9: We're going to do a girls' field hockey game in
- 1:11:53Speaker 9: Week 2, Stonington and East Lyme. And then we go
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: into the main thing of football. But the championship games,
- 1:12:01Speaker 9: as always... Boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey, swimming, volleyball,
- 1:12:07Speaker 9: all of your championship games in the ECC will be
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: live streamed on game day. And the one thing for
- 1:12:13Speaker 9: anyone who is listening, the one thing I want to
- 1:12:16Speaker 9: really make sure I say is game day is free.
- 1:12:20Speaker 9: You know, in a world where everything costs you $ 2. 99
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: and $ 4. 99, you can't get a subscription to anything. All
- 1:12:27Speaker 9: the content that we provide on high school sports is free.
- 1:12:30Speaker 9: Gameday CT on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube. You can find
- 1:12:36Speaker 9: all of the content free of charge. So you can
- 1:12:39Speaker 9: go watch all of these things live and or post
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: it afterwards. They're always available. So we will take you
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: right through the fall, and then the whole year is
- 1:12:50Speaker 9: pretty much mapped out, and we are ready to roll
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: with a full slate of action, and the one thing
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: about I think high school sports is growing and becoming
- 1:13:00Speaker 9: more popular and resonating in part because it's the last
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: little bit of innocence that we have. College sports is
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: a cesspool that has become even worse than pro sports
- 1:13:13Speaker 9: as far as it's lost all innocence. And I think
- 1:13:15Speaker 9: people just like the idea of being able to root
- 1:13:18Speaker 9: for the same person year in and year out and
- 1:13:21Speaker 9: watching kids grow. And so I think high school sports
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: will continue to grow here in Eastern Connecticut.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I think it's great. And as far as Steve Elsie
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: and Friends goes on, we have some connections happening with
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: the Chestnut Theater, right?
- 1:13:33Speaker 9: That is really exciting. For anyone who doesn't know, the
- 1:13:35Speaker 9: Chestnut Theater in Norwich is a great little theater looking
- 1:13:39Speaker 9: to sort of revive its slate of performances and what
- 1:13:44Speaker 9: goes on there. And smart marriage, if you will, your
- 1:13:50Speaker 9: talents and the Not just you specifically in your music,
- 1:13:54Speaker 9: but the breadth of people that you have in your
- 1:13:57Speaker 9: universe who perform various things. Great match for that place.
- 1:14:01Speaker 9: And I think seeing what might be a partnership that
- 1:14:06Speaker 9: really we look back on years from now and see
- 1:14:09Speaker 9: an important moment in the trajectory.
- 1:14:11Speaker 45: Yeah.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: You know, in a row and sort of entertain all
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: of Norwich, if you will.
- 1:14:28Speaker 9: Before I go, Steve, I want to say I do
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: have one bone to pick with you.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Just one?
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: Yeah, just one.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: All right, well, I can handle that.
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: I don't like having the person following me on the
- 1:14:39Speaker 9: air being smarter, more knowledgeable, and better looking. I mean,
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: could you bring in a stiff after me so I
- 1:14:46Speaker 9: look good instead?
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Coming up next, Lady Moe! Let's do it. Anyway, Casey,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: thank you so much.
- 1:15:11Speaker 59: Chief is small, not too steep, but best of all.
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: Chief is cheap.
- 1:15:19Speaker 58: Circumstance has forced my hand to be.
- 1:15:23Speaker 17: A cut-price person.
- 1:15:26Speaker 58: In a low-budget land.
- 1:15:28Speaker 11: Times are hard, but.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: We'll all survive.
- 1:15:32Speaker 58: I just gotta learn to economize.
- 1:15:46Speaker 11: Excuse my shoes. They don't quite fit. They're a special
- 1:15:51Speaker 11: offer and they.
- 1:15:52Speaker 56: Hurt me a bit.
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: Even my trousers are giving me pain. They were reduced.
- 1:16:07Speaker 33: In the sale, so I shouldn't complain.

- 1:16:17Speaker 9: a love budget.

- 1:16:19Speaker 11: I'm on a love budget.
- 1:16:23Speaker 50: I'll put myself.

- 1:17:42Speaker 64: I'm Therese Crowley. One holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy
- 1:17:46Speaker 64: murder trial. Judge William Sullivan holds an inquiry this morning
- 1:17:49Speaker 64: about the jury's note that the person is refusing to
- 1:17:52Speaker 64: listen to the law. But the judge rejected defense lawyer
- 1:17:55Speaker 64: Kevin Reddington's motion to remove the jury.
- 1:17:57Speaker 53: I object to the court's ruling. I request that we
- 1:18:00Speaker 53: have further inquiry. I request that my motion is to
- 1:18:03Speaker 53: remove this juror that refuses to listen to your instruction
- 1:18:06Speaker 53: on reasonable doubt.
- 1:18:07Speaker 64: Judge Sullivan said it would be improper to side with

- 1:21:36Speaker 45: but 33 years ago today on this very day quite
- 1:21:39Speaker 45: possibly the greatest no hitter in the history of the
- 1:21:42Speaker 45: sport was thrown when new york yankee pitcher jim abbott
- 1:21:45Speaker 45: threw one against the cleveland indians and of course the
- 1:21:48Speaker 45: thing that made jim abbott's no hitter and his career
- 1:21:51Speaker 45: so amazing was the fact that jim abbott was only
- 1:21:54Speaker 45: born with one hand And honestly, the man's entire career
- 1:21:58Speaker 45: still resonates to this day as a shining example of
- 1:22:01Speaker 45: what's possible with perseverance. But on this day, 33 years ago,
- 1:22:06Speaker 45: Jim Abbott was more than just an inspiring, awesome story.
- 1:22:10Speaker 25: He was unhittable.
- 1:22:11Speaker 45: And it'll forever be one of the greatest moments in

- 1:24:58Speaker 20: Hey, Barbara. I'm glad you're squatting.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: First of all, we have lots of squatters in here.
- 1:25:02Speaker 20: Thank you for the compliments from yesterday.
- 1:25:04Speaker 57: Yes.
- 1:25:05Speaker 20: Hey, Barbara.
- 1:25:08Speaker 57: Engineer, I brought you a gift. It's some red, white
- 1:25:14Speaker 57: and blue shareable.
- 1:25:15Speaker 20: M & M' s.
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: M & M' s.
- 1:25:20Speaker 20: I hope you don't have an allergy, a food allergy.
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:25:24Speaker 20: There's no brown in here. Like the studio.
- 1:25:34Speaker 57: And they're shareable. So pass them around. I didn't get
- 1:25:39Speaker 57: the brown. I wanted to throw out a music, a
- 1:25:42Speaker 57: piece of like fun fact music stuff this Friday morning.
- 1:25:47Speaker 57: Van Halen fans out there. Food allergy as well. I'm
- 1:25:52Speaker 57: a food allergy mom. My son took his first ambulance
- 1:25:55Speaker 57: ride at a year and a half.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:25:57Speaker 20: He almost died in my arms.
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:25:59Speaker 57: He went into anaphylaxis because he's highly.
- 1:26:04Speaker 20: Allergic to all nuts. Peanuts, tree nuts. But David Lee
- 1:26:11Speaker 20: Roth used to make sure on tour....
- 1:26:16Speaker 57: Rocking out way back when that everybody was on the
- 1:26:22Speaker 57: same page and reading the contract and making sure by
- 1:26:27Speaker 57: putting a bowl.
- 1:26:28Speaker 20: Of M & M' s on.
- 1:26:31Speaker 57: The table of food for the band. And if he
- 1:26:35Speaker 57: saw any brown in there, he knew no.
- 1:26:37Speaker 20: One read the contract.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: OK, you wouldn't perform.
- 1:26:41Speaker 20: No, he'd be like, you're gone. Like, you can't. You
- 1:26:44Speaker 20: could kill me.
- 1:26:45Speaker 42: Yeah.
- 1:26:46Speaker 20: This is important. Let's take it seriously.
- 1:26:48Speaker 9: Widely regarded as one of the more cerebral musicians in
- 1:26:52Speaker 9: the history of rock.
- 1:26:53Speaker 20: Thanks. And now his son.
- 1:26:55Speaker 9: Well thought out.
- 1:26:56Speaker 20: Mammoth.
- 1:26:57Speaker 42: Mammoth?
- 1:26:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:26:58Speaker 20: Have you listened to any.
- 1:26:59Speaker 25: Of his sons?
- 1:27:00Speaker 9: Maybe after the Wooly or after the Mountain.
- 1:27:03Speaker 20: I'll let you explore that.
- 1:27:04Speaker 9: I will do that.
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 1:27:07Speaker 57: Also, happy football season. I love the Steelers. So that's
- 1:27:14Speaker 57: where I'm standing with that. Fish on sports was great.
- 1:27:19Speaker 57: I thought the whole thing was great yesterday.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you did a great job. And I'm a
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Steelers fan, or it was at least 40 years ago.
- 1:27:27Speaker 57: Okay.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: And there you have it. Look, we are having a
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: great conversation today. If you guys want to call in
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: on anything, it's 860-464-9490. Did you hear the segment earlier?
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: With Jeff Sheckman. Yeah.
- 1:27:40Speaker 48: Yeah.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Yeah. And I know you and I, you know, we
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: have the spiritual thing and we talk.
- 1:27:44Speaker 62: Yeah.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: We talk a lot about that. But Jeff is really
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: he has just, you know, really dives deep into what
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: he's doing. And he uses science and AI to talk
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: about it all and to really kind of come up
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: with with where we're going with all of it and
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: what it all means.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: You know, what was your take on some of that,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: if you heard it? Or just your take in general
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: of the spiritualism and AI sort of merging.
- 1:28:13Speaker 20: It's a delicate dance.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:28:16Speaker 57: That applies to every generation, every nook and cranny of
- 1:28:26Speaker 57: the world.
- 1:28:29Speaker 20: It touches climate.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Um.
- 1:28:36Speaker 57: If you've read any of the headline news right now,
- 1:28:40Speaker 57: rivers and streams are being sucked dry. People are trying
- 1:28:47Speaker 57: to run basic daily activities in their house, wash a dish,
- 1:28:57Speaker 57: take a little toothbrush, like they're, they, they're, it's brown
- 1:29:02Speaker 57: water coming out of there.
- 1:29:04Speaker 20: Yeah. I, so we need to be very careful about
- 1:29:10Speaker 20: how we use this tool.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:14Speaker 57: We also need to remember the very fundamental facts that we,
- 1:29:19Speaker 57: like we have the ability to read, still use words, create, um,
- 1:29:28Speaker 57: have critical thinking, look at things and, and, and, but
- 1:29:32Speaker 57: we can, we can, we can still exist in.
- 1:29:36Speaker 20: A world where we both exist.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:29:41Speaker 20: I use it because I have to, I have to,
- 1:29:48Speaker 20: the systems in place have been set up today to,
- 1:29:53Speaker 20: to make sure I, I do it.
- 1:29:55Speaker 18: Right.
- 1:29:56Speaker 20: In order to exist.
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: No, I got that. I can see where that comes
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: into play.
- 1:30:01Speaker 9: Meta.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:03Speaker 20: And it goes deeper than that.
- 1:30:05Speaker 57: And I was trying to say that yesterday, you know,
- 1:30:07Speaker 57: thinking about thinking like this metacognition, you know, that I have,
- 1:30:14Speaker 57: that AI also has.
- 1:30:19Speaker 20: We're connected in that way.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:21Speaker 57: And I think he was trying to say that he's
- 1:30:22Speaker 57: a writer. He uses words for a living.
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:26Speaker 20: He so and and those things are under threat by AI.
- 1:30:33Speaker 57: Yeah, they're being but literature is being shredded by AI
- 1:30:38Speaker 57: and consumed there to for what?
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: No, it's funny, and I ran into Rick Koster the
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: other day, and we had this very conversation.
- 1:30:46Speaker 20: Hey, Rick, we miss you.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Yeah, we miss you. But we ran into him the
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: other day, and we talked about what his new book
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: might be, and he was saying he's sort of run
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: out of steam because people are putting out all these
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: books on AI faster than he could possibly write his own.
- 1:31:03Speaker 57: It's taking artists' creativity away. It's taking writers' creative process away.
- 1:31:10Speaker 57: But it's also doing so much good at the same
- 1:31:13Speaker 57: time to.
- 1:31:16Speaker 20: Stimulate. I mean, this is just where we are. This
- 1:31:19Speaker 20: is just where we are.
- 1:31:20Speaker 9: I have a completely different take. I think we're the
- 1:31:23Speaker 9: only mammal species that does not understand survival. Every other
- 1:31:28Speaker 9: mammal species, their primary directive is survival. We have created
- 1:31:33Speaker 9: something that is going to completely destroy our ecosystems and
- 1:31:37Speaker 9: at the same time render us obsolete. So that makes
- 1:31:41Speaker 9: no sense. It's killing us in two different directions. Everything
- 1:31:45Speaker 9: that is great about the human spirit is creativity. And
- 1:31:50Speaker 9: to say that this is a tool for creativity is
- 1:31:54Speaker 9: like– I don't know. It's– It's really not. It's muting.
- 1:31:59Speaker 9: It's like saying social media is a tool for being social.
- 1:32:02Speaker 9: It's actually not.
- 1:32:03Speaker 7: Got it.
- 1:32:03Speaker 9: Social media is a tool for distribution of information, but
- 1:32:07Speaker 9: it's actually creating generations of antisocial kids, kids who don't
- 1:32:13Speaker 9: know how to be social. Similar AI is creating– is
- 1:32:17Speaker 9: taking creative people– and actually muting their creativity. They can
- 1:32:21Speaker 9: use it to be creative, but they could have used
- 1:32:24Speaker 9: other things to be creative because they're creative people, and
- 1:32:27Speaker 9: it's killing us in the process. So, you know, thank
- 1:32:30Speaker 9: God I'm old.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: Yeah, no, listen.
- 1:32:33Speaker 20: Bring in the noise on that one.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: I have mixed feelings on it all. Casey, you're not
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: wrong in saying that, you know, it mutes or makes
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: things easy to... to just quickly throw out there and
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: sort of devalues everything. However, there is applications out there. And,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: and I, this is how I could use it where
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: you could write all the music or in Rick's case,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: maybe the book or whatever, but in my case, music
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: and ask AI, Hey, look, I need a violin part, right?
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: I can't physically play the violin. And so, Perhaps a
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: lot of folks couldn't hire a L.A., New York-style violin player.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: So this provides a way to get your vision of it,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: of what you want to sound into your song. Now,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: that's me working as a tool. I am fully aware
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: that that is not how most people use it, and
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: I'm fully aware that you can just push a button
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and make a song and not. I, what I'm choosing
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: to do, is use it as a tool. And so
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: it enhances my ability to see a fuller picture of myself.
- 1:33:53Speaker 9: At what cost? And I would suggest that you, as
- 1:33:56Speaker 9: a creative person, if there was no AI, would have
- 1:33:59Speaker 9: figured out a way to make that song brilliant. You
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: would have figured out a way to get that violin
- 1:34:04Speaker 9: part in.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Oh, I got it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: I got it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: But figuring out that way is time and cost.
- 1:34:06Speaker 9: But now, for every one of you, there's a thousand
- 1:34:09Speaker 9: people who are saying... Make me a really cool song.
- 1:34:13Speaker 9: And I don't want them. No, I know. That's not
- 1:34:16Speaker 9: what I want. I want you making really cool songs.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: I got it.
- 1:34:18Speaker 20: That's what I'm talking. You got to dive deeper.
- 1:34:20Speaker 57: You got to recognize the multi-layered approach. And you can't
- 1:34:25Speaker 57: lose that. It's such a key piece to creation since
- 1:34:28Speaker 57: we've been here. for all mankind and the key to,
- 1:34:36Speaker 57: from like where we've come from to where we're going
- 1:34:41Speaker 57: to go. And yeah, like the Terminator discussion was fascinating
- 1:34:47Speaker 57: this morning.
- 1:34:48Speaker 20: The apocalypse stuff really took off yesterday.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: Hollywood, Hollywood does this a lot. Right. So, and I,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: that's why I asked Jeff is, you know, you know,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: they seem to put out movies and, documentaries. That sort
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: of document.
- 1:35:03Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: That sort of foresee what's going to happen. And, and
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: you're either really creative and can do it, or there's
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: some sort of, uh, movement to sort of disclose it sooner.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: So you, so you kind of soften the blow of everything.
- 1:35:19Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: I don't know what, you know, Jeff thought it was
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: a great question. And, you know, from his, from his perspective,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: he hasn't physically seen any, like any of that. Um,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: But we all know that the government has a production budget.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: They do.
- 1:35:37Speaker 57: Everything is a show today with them. It's a show.
- 1:35:42Speaker 9: DARPA is literally designed to create. So there are private agencies,
- 1:35:51Speaker 9: think tanks, that contract with DARPA, and DARPA is specifically
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: designed to try to, Imagine the future and what is
- 1:35:59Speaker 9: possible and create roads to those potential futures. And a
- 1:36:04Speaker 9: lot of these private companies are– these think tanks are–
- 1:36:08Speaker 9: trying to do exactly that. And the movie industry is
- 1:36:11Speaker 9: no different. The movie industry contracts with these same things
- 1:36:14Speaker 9: and says, hey, we have this idea about a futuristic thing.
- 1:36:19Speaker 9: Make it real for us. What is really possible? And
- 1:36:22Speaker 9: then once that idea is out there, they work towards
- 1:36:25Speaker 9: actually making it possible. So a lot of these things
- 1:36:27Speaker 9: that were... The Terminator, The Matrix, these movies that are
- 1:36:31Speaker 9: 30 years old. How did they know?
- 1:36:35Speaker 20: How relevant is the red pill right now?
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: That's right. The red pill.
- 1:36:39Speaker 20: I didn't mean to cut you off.
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: No, you didn't.
- 1:36:42Speaker 9: It's exactly right.
- 1:36:43Speaker 20: And that's where improv comes into play. Because this is
- 1:36:47Speaker 20: real talk.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:36:48Speaker 20: This is real talk.
- 1:36:49Speaker 57: And that's why radio is thriving right now. Talk radio
- 1:36:53Speaker 57: is thriving right now because we have that nuance still.
- 1:36:59Speaker 9: That's a great point.
- 1:37:01Speaker 36: Yeah.
- 1:37:01Speaker 57: I have artist friends who their 3D printers are doing
- 1:37:06Speaker 57: the work in an hour that takes.
- 1:37:09Speaker 20: Them days and days and research.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: So here's what, let me just add one thing. So AI, right?
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: So it isn't just news. It's sort of a built-on technology. So,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: for instance, musically speaking, that's how I'm going to speak it.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: You know, in the 80s, the drum machine came in,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: and you programmed the drum machine. And even into the
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: 90s and today, musicians go into a studio, any pop
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: artist's name there, and they produce songs that aren't with
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: real people, that are dialed in through technology, through little programs.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: Pieces of software bytes that they put together and string
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: together to make songs. I realize a person is doing that.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: But that is that is not real. And yet we
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: we kind of like look at it as real. We
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: listen to it because the artist singing it is real. So,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: you know, then you look at the AI music thing
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: and it's like, listen, if I'm going to prompt it,
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: if I'm going to design it, if I'm going to
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: redesign it, if I'm going to strip it down and
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: make it exactly what I want it to be, I
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: am that engineer in the studio, only it's within my studio,
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: creating a pop song. And if I sing it, there
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: you go what's the difference.
- 1:38:32Speaker 9: Well the difference is that there was that originally someone
- 1:38:36Speaker 9: played those notes and originally someone put those things together
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: so a person created something and now through the annals
- 1:38:43Speaker 9: of of time we've created these libraries of those sounds
- 1:38:47Speaker 9: right so Someone programmed the drum machine and someone played
- 1:38:50Speaker 9: the drums that created the sounds that the drum machine mimicked.
- 1:38:54Speaker 9: So it was all part of human creation.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Which AI takes from.
- 1:39:00Speaker 9: I understand that. But the idea is that it takes
- 1:39:02Speaker 9: it to the point where it makes the person no
- 1:39:05Speaker 9: longer necessary. And that's the fundamental difference is there have
- 1:39:09Speaker 9: always been tools for efficiency. And so... You know, I
- 1:39:13Speaker 9: would be the first to admit, if I have nine
- 1:39:16Speaker 9: places I have to go today that I have to
- 1:39:18Speaker 9: deliver things to, I can go into an AI program
- 1:39:21Speaker 9: and go, what's the most efficient route for me to
- 1:39:23Speaker 9: go to these nine places? And it will say, this
- 1:39:26Speaker 9: is how you want to do it, and it will
- 1:39:28Speaker 9: line them up for me to avoid. That's a helpful tool.
- 1:39:32Speaker 9: I'm still driving to the nine places and doing the
- 1:39:34Speaker 9: nine things. That's a tool. That's a little bit different.
- 1:39:37Speaker 9: We start getting into creation and creating art. It's a
- 1:39:45Speaker 9: very challenging question, and I think perspectives vary, that art
- 1:39:52Speaker 9: needs to be created by the person. And is it
- 1:39:55Speaker 9: art if it's not being created by the person?
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: So Grammy speaking, the Grammys are allowing AI-inspired... I don't
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: know what the difference is, but either AI, you have
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: to check the button, AI or AI-inspired. I guess what
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I do is AI-inspired, because I create the song... Or
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: I can.
- 1:40:13Speaker 9: You write your own lyrics. You write the music.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: And it puts it together. But what I'm saying is
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: the Grammys at the moment have deemed this is still
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: something that is viable and creative. And we're still considering it,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: provided the artist is singing on it. It's not just
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: an AI voice. I think that's where it goes over
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: the line. But I don't know. It's in there now.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: And there's lots of pushback all over the place on it. Um,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: you know, I'm actually right now at the, at the,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: you know, right now it's like, I just want to
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: strip everything down to nothing. I just want, it's like,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: it's like, there's so much technology. I just want to
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: do the opposite at the.
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: Moment, which will be the pendulum swing. Lady Mo, you're
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: going to be alive 50 years from now.
- 1:40:56Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:40:56Speaker 20: When we look at my, yes, I'm already almost a
- 1:40:59Speaker 20: half a century.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: A hundred percent.
- 1:41:00Speaker 9: You are, you are 100% of vampire. Um, looking back
- 1:41:03Speaker 9: 50 years from now, will we be regretting and ruining, uh, the,
- 1:41:09Speaker 9: you know, the matrix, uh, heralding AI? Will we be
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: regretting it 50 years from now?
- 1:41:14Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:41:14Speaker 57: I talked to Pete yesterday and I've thought about it
- 1:41:16Speaker 57: ever since on the air. It's something that has been
- 1:41:22Speaker 57: like the core of my existence. I've seen it with
- 1:41:25Speaker 57: my own eyes assessed. I've seen the patterns. We've learned
- 1:41:29Speaker 57: pattern recognition from a very young age, kindergarten, even earlier.
- 1:41:35Speaker 57: They teach us no know that like a BBA, ABA, ABC.
- 1:41:41Speaker 20: Okay.
- 1:41:44Speaker 57: And like he said, there's been a, a slow decline in.
- 1:41:53Speaker 20: That stuff.
- 1:41:53Speaker 57: And, and this is enhancing it and empowering that. And
- 1:41:59Speaker 57: the pendulum swing emphasis.
- 1:42:02Speaker 20: Is even more now.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:42:04Speaker 57: So, uh, And it's slow. The apocalypse happens slow. It's
- 1:42:11Speaker 57: right under our noses.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: So here's the thing. The genie's out. AI, in my opinion,
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: and everything that it's bringing, it's not going away, right? Like, Casey,
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: you don't see someone saying, all right, I think we've
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: had enough of this.
- 1:42:27Speaker 42: No.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Right. It's just not going away. So the question is
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: going to be is how do we work with it?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: In the 80s, the drum machine came in and the
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: drummers thought their job was obsolete.
- 1:42:41Speaker 20: Don't stop creating.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Not true, right?
- 1:42:43Speaker 9: Don't stop creating.
- 1:42:46Speaker 20: Don't stop dreaming.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: Don't stop believing. Speaking of a great song.
- 1:42:50Speaker 20: Don't stop believing. Are we going to sing?
- 1:42:53Speaker 9: Now, I will say this. Humans have not demonstrated the
- 1:42:57Speaker 9: ability to turn course on anything destructive to them. And
- 1:43:01Speaker 9: you can pick your thing different. I'm not going to
- 1:43:03Speaker 9: I'm not going to reference one of the things because
- 1:43:06Speaker 9: I'll get a lot of backlash from it. But we
- 1:43:10Speaker 9: don't reverse course on things that are destructive to us.
- 1:43:12Speaker 9: We double down on them. So, for example, for money.
- 1:43:17Speaker 9: There are other countries who have said social media is
- 1:43:20Speaker 9: really bad for our kids. We're not going to let
- 1:43:22Speaker 9: them have access to it. We do the opposite. Let's
- 1:43:25Speaker 9: create a social media phone for our babies and put
- 1:43:29Speaker 9: them in the cribs with them so that they can
- 1:43:30Speaker 9: learn better. AI, I think, is in the same vein.
- 1:43:34Speaker 9: Not only is it not going away, we will double
- 1:43:36Speaker 9: and triple down on it to our own detriment. For
- 1:43:39Speaker 9: as long as it goes.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: Elon Musk already has Optimus robots walking around.
- 1:43:44Speaker 9: AI president coming next.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Look out. Up next, Barbara Neff. I'm off the air.
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: There we are.

- 1:47:22Speaker 52: 85 per gallon, surpassing the previous high from 2022 when

- 1:47:28Speaker 28: This spike-up is related to Iran. I wouldn't call it
- 1:47:30Speaker 28: a war.
- 1:47:31Speaker 54: Right now, there is no active shooting. I recognize there
- 1:47:33Speaker 54: have been places where this has flared up.

- 1:47:39Speaker 54: The reason gas prices are so high right now is

- 1:47:48Speaker 52: wasn't taking action to keep shipping flowing in the Strait

- 1:47:52Speaker 28: 14 per gallon.
- 1:47:53Speaker 52: Again, according to AAA, it's never been this high for
- 1:47:56Speaker 52: travelers on a Labor Day weekend. Lindsay Clancy's jury remains
- 1:47:59Speaker 52: deadlocked before a seventh day of deliberations at her murder trial.
- 1:48:02Speaker 52: Her lawyer, Kevin Reddington, is upset that one holdout juror
- 1:48:05Speaker 52: is refusing to follow the law on reasonable doubt as
- 1:48:08Speaker 52: he makes an insanity defense.
- 1:48:09Speaker 30: The judge called up each juror one by one, asking
- 1:48:12Speaker 30: them if they could follow his instructions.
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: They all said yes.
- 1:48:15Speaker 30: The judge then clarified reasonable doubt and sent the jury
- 1:48:18Speaker 30: back to deliberate more. Reddington said the holdout jurors threatening
- 1:48:22Speaker 30: to cause a mistrial and he wants he or she replaced.
- 1:48:25Speaker 52: Foxes need FOIA outside the court in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Missouri's

- 1:48:31Speaker 52: the state Supreme Court blocked the congressional redistricting acts already
- 1:48:34Speaker 52: used in the primaries. until a ballot referendum is held
- 1:48:37Speaker 52: on the new maps. President Trump called that untrue, social, horrible,
- 1:48:40Speaker 52: and ridiculous. GOP Governor Mike Keogh agrees, telling Fox.
- 1:48:43Speaker 55: I think it's absolutely a travesty to Missourians.
- 1:48:46Speaker 28: Fox's Lucas Tomlinson also reports from the White House.
- 1:48:49Speaker 66: The Justice Department also asking the Supreme Court to intervene
- 1:48:52Speaker 66: in the ongoing legal battle of the U.S. Postal Service's

- 1:49:02Speaker 66: control of states' administration of elections.
- 1:49:04Speaker 52: Those who challenge the president's executive order on mail-in voting
- 1:49:06Speaker 52: say it's unconstitutional.
- 1:49:08Speaker 28: America's listening to Fox News.
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: Wesley Financial Group is not a law firm.
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: Ask yourself this question.
- 1:49:14Speaker 56: Is it really worth holding on to that timeshare that
- 1:49:17Speaker 56: you know you need to get rid of?
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: Here's the truth. The average maintenance fee just went up
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: over 17%.
- 1:49:22Speaker 56: That could have been 117% and there's nothing you can
- 1:49:27Speaker 56: do about it. When you buy a timeshare, you give
- 1:49:30Speaker 56: them a blank check for annual maintenance and assessment fees.
- 1:49:33Speaker 56: I'm Chuck McDowell, founder of Wesley Financial Group. For 15 years,
- 1:49:37Speaker 56: I've helped over 50,000 families cancel their timeshare. Not sell it,
- 1:49:42Speaker 56: not transfer it, cancel it. Did you buy a timeshare
- 1:49:45Speaker 56: because they told you it was a great investment and
- 1:49:47Speaker 56: your maintenance fees would never go up?
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: That's a lie.
- 1:49:50Speaker 56: Are you ready to get rid of your timeshare once
- 1:49:54Speaker 56: and for all?
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: Simply call us and I'll.
- 1:49:56Speaker 56: Send you our timeshare exit kit that explains all your

- 1:50:14Speaker 42: Good morning, I'm Rob Ray.

- 1:51:33Speaker 38: I'm Rob Ray. When news breaks, we break in.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: All right, we are back. And look, if you've lived
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: under a rock over the past 30 years in New
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: London and gone to any of the events down there
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: and not know who puts them on, then it's time
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: to wake up. I'm here right now with Barbara Neff
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: of Neff Productions, and she has been responsible for all
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: or a lot of the incredible events that have happened
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: in New London over the years quite some time. Barbara,
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: welcome aboard. What's happening?
- 1:52:04Speaker 33: Thank you so much for bringing me in. We've got
- 1:52:07Speaker 33: a lot of stuff going on. Fall's going to be busy.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: All right, all right. Tell us more. Tell us more.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: What's on tap? I know we have the big festival
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: next weekend, the Maritime Fest, right?
- 1:52:16Speaker 33: Yeah, we've got to talk about that.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: What's happening there?
- 1:52:19Speaker 33: Next weekend, we have Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival, and we
- 1:52:24Speaker 33: start off on Friday on the Custom House Pier with
- 1:52:27Speaker 33: the 25th anniversary of 9-11.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Wow. Okay, so what does that mean when you start out?
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: What's happening?
- 1:52:33Speaker 33: So it's a ceremony down there, and we'll have military
- 1:52:37Speaker 33: and police and fire down there, and we'll have a
- 1:52:40Speaker 33: ceremony down there. We'll also have a flag burning. And
- 1:52:45Speaker 33: we will present a new flag to the fire chief.
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: OK.
- 1:52:49Speaker 33: We also will have a fire boat that will do
- 1:52:52Speaker 33: a fire spray and we'll throw a wreath in the
- 1:52:55Speaker 33: water for remembrance of the people who have passed during that.
- 1:53:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:53:00Speaker 33: So we have that. That starts starts it off.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: But the festival is it's not it's it's. Like music,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: it's vendors. It is. What is it about?
- 1:53:10Speaker 33: So it's Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival is a military type
- 1:53:14Speaker 33: of tall ship event. It's also.
- 1:53:19Speaker 33: You know, it's not just New London. It's the state
- 1:53:21Speaker 33: of Connecticut.
- 1:53:22Speaker 42: Yeah.
- 1:53:22Speaker 33: So we have the Eagle, which will be open down there.
- 1:53:26Speaker 33: We have two different tall ships. We have the Harvey
- 1:53:28Speaker 33: Gammage and we have the Dennis Sullivan.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:53:32Speaker 33: We have authors that are coming down.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: Oh, good.
- 1:53:35Speaker 33: So on the Dennis Sullivan on Friday night, I have
- 1:53:38Speaker 33: a rum tasting. You're going to love this. Wait a minute.
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: Rum tasting Friday night?
- 1:53:43Speaker 18: Yep.
- 1:53:44Speaker 62: Yeah.
- 1:53:45Speaker 33: Oh, Saturday night.
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 1:53:46Speaker 33: Saturday night. I have a rum tasting on the Dennis
- 1:53:48Speaker 33: Sullivan with a woman, Barbie. Her name is Brooke Barbie,
- 1:53:53Speaker 33: and she has written a book called Cocked and Boozy.
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: OK.
- 1:53:58Speaker 33: And the and the. It is about how alcohol affected
- 1:54:04Speaker 33: the American Revolution. And so it's really cool. She's out
- 1:54:08Speaker 33: of Boston. She's coming down for $ 35 a ticket. You
- 1:54:11Speaker 33: can listen to her talk. You can get rum drinks
- 1:54:15Speaker 33: and food from Favorites Bistro. So it's all one thing.
- 1:54:19Speaker 33: So we have that tall ship and that happening. We
- 1:54:22Speaker 33: have the Harvey Gammage that I said is coming in.
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: So this is, just to be fair, just so everybody
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: knows out there, they're hearing that I'm playing, which is
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: children's music. You are. But it's for, it's not just
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: for kids.
- 1:54:32Speaker 33: No, this is a huge event for all different demographics.
- 1:54:39Speaker 33: We have the Harvey Gammage, which is also a tall
- 1:54:42Speaker 33: ship that is doing night sails. Friday night, Saturday and
- 1:54:45Speaker 33: Sunday night. So you can actually go on this boat
- 1:54:47Speaker 33: for a two-hour sail down the Thames River.
- 1:54:50Speaker 9: Okay.
- 1:54:50Speaker 33: And those tickets are on Connecticut Maritime. Let me make
- 1:54:54Speaker 33: sure I get it right, what the website is. CTMaritimeFest.com.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 1:55:03Speaker 33: Yeah, it's obviously on Facebook, too, and Instagram and all
- 1:55:06Speaker 33: that good stuff. But that's really exciting. We are doing— I
- 1:55:11Speaker 33: got so much for you. We have— I do! I got
- 1:55:15Speaker 33: so much.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: I've worked so hard on this event. All right, put
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: it out there. Let's do it.
- 1:55:17Speaker 33: We got the U.S.
- 1:55:19Speaker 9: Coast Guard.
- 1:55:19Speaker 33: We're celebrating 150th anniversary, and we have a commemorative stamp.
- 1:55:23Speaker 33: So we have the post office coming down and releasing
- 1:55:26Speaker 33: a stamp that is just for the Eagle. And it
- 1:55:30Speaker 33: will be released at the opening ceremony on Saturday at
- 1:55:33Speaker 33: 10 a.m. on the stage right before you go on.
- 1:55:36Speaker 33: But then they'll be selling it on Saturday and Sunday
- 1:55:39Speaker 33: on the waterfront.
- 1:55:40Speaker 9: Oh, wow.
- 1:55:40Speaker 33: So that's something different that we haven't done. We have
- 1:55:45Speaker 33: Friday night at the Guard. We have the movie The Guardian.
- 1:55:49Speaker 33: And we have free tickets for anyone in the military,
- 1:55:53Speaker 33: any military family, any veteran. And you can go to
- 1:55:56Speaker 33: the Guard's website and see that.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: Jeannie and Steve down there are great.
- 1:56:01Speaker 33: They are great. They're always help promoting.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they're just great, great community people.
- 1:56:05Speaker 33: Yeah, so I really hope the military comes out and
- 1:56:07Speaker 33: gets those free tickets and goes to that event.
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:56:11Speaker 33: So we have that. During that, they will be honoring
- 1:56:14Speaker 33: a tribal member who was in the Coast Guard who
- 1:56:18Speaker 33: that that passed away. And I don't have. Let's see.
- 1:56:23Speaker 33: I think I can find it. I think he was
- 1:56:25Speaker 33: in the Coast Guard like. I'm not sure exactly when.
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: Oh, hold it.
- 1:56:33Speaker 33: Hold it.
- 1:56:33Speaker 8: Hold it.
- 1:56:33Speaker 33: I might be able to find.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: No.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: No.
- 1:56:37Speaker 33: He was in the Coast Guard, and he was a
- 1:56:40Speaker 33: tribal member, and they're going to recognize him.
- 1:56:42Speaker 25: All right, cool.
- 1:56:42Speaker 33: So I'm sorry I don't know what year.
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: He was in.
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: That's fine. So the festival, though, just so everybody knows,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: it's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday?
- 1:56:48Speaker 33: So we start off really late on Friday with just
- 1:56:51Speaker 33: a few things going on. So the remembrance of 9-11.
- 1:56:53Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:56:55Speaker 33: With a pirate event that I didn't even tell you
- 1:56:58Speaker 33: about on Friday night that I'm doing a pirate event
- 1:57:00Speaker 33: downtown with a scavenger map for adults and kids to
- 1:57:03Speaker 33: dress up as pirates. Go through to the different venues
- 1:57:07Speaker 33: downtown and get their stamps. And then they go in
- 1:57:12Speaker 33: for a raffle. And then we have a pirates dress
- 1:57:15Speaker 33: contest and kids in front of the Golden Owl on
- 1:57:19Speaker 33: Friday night.
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: Oh, good.
- 1:57:20Speaker 33: And then The Guardian. So that's Friday night.
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: That's Friday.
- 1:57:22Speaker 33: Okay, but then we open the event up at 10
- 1:57:25Speaker 33: o'clock on Saturday. And from 10 to 5 on Saturday
- 1:57:28Speaker 33: is really the vendors.
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: We have a.
- 1:57:30Speaker 33: Touch tank with Project O.
- 1:57:33Speaker 25: We have.
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: Mermaids.
- 1:57:36Speaker 33: Yeah, so let's talk about the kids stuff since you're
- 1:57:39Speaker 33: going there. We have the Nyanic Children's Museum and Youth Affairs.
- 1:57:44Speaker 33: And they're going to make, you can make pirate costumes
- 1:57:48Speaker 33: and mermaid costumes from 10 o'clock to 1130. And then 1130,
- 1:57:53Speaker 33: we take all your kids who made costumes, put them
- 1:57:56Speaker 33: in a parade and walk them down to the stage
- 1:57:58Speaker 33: where you guys are going to be.
- 1:57:59Speaker 7: Hey, look at that.
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: I love how that works.
- 1:58:02Speaker 33: So we also have Connecticut Port Authority, who is the
- 1:58:06Speaker 33: presenting sponsor of this, and they'll have a booth at
- 1:58:09Speaker 33: the— event and i don't know if you i think
- 1:58:11Speaker 33: she's been on uh jessica with bay the dog oh
- 1:58:14Speaker 33: yeah She's been on. So she will be in on Sunday,
- 1:58:18Speaker 33: and you will be able to meet Bay the Dog.
- 1:58:20Speaker 33: You'll be able to buy her book, and she'll be
- 1:58:23Speaker 33: at the Connecticut Port Authority booth. And Connecticut Port Authority
- 1:58:26Speaker 33: booth is also going to have activities for kids, and
- 1:58:28Speaker 33: that will be at City Pier all weekend. We have
- 1:58:32Speaker 33: Project O with a touch tank that'll be down there.
- 1:58:36Speaker 9: What else?
- 1:58:37Speaker 25: Oh, we have.
- 1:58:38Speaker 33: Little Mermaid-esque and Moana-esque. That'll be meeting kids and doing
- 1:58:44Speaker 33: a sing-along, I think, right before you perform.
- 1:58:46Speaker 9: Yep, yep, yep.
- 1:58:49Speaker 33: What else do we have? We have Breeze Line is
- 1:58:51Speaker 33: doing a fishing clinic on Sunday.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:58:54Speaker 33: So on Sunday, you'll be able to come down from
- 1:58:56Speaker 33: 11 to 2. This is great, too. You come down
- 1:58:58Speaker 33: from 11 to 2. We teach you how to fish
- 1:59:00Speaker 33: with deep, and then you walk away with a free
- 1:59:03Speaker 33: fishing pole.
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:59:04Speaker 9: I love it.
- 1:59:05Speaker 33: And Breeze Line sponsoring that, and that's great. It's while
- 1:59:08Speaker 33: supplies last. We ordered more fish and poles this year
- 1:59:10Speaker 33: because we ran out last year. So make sure you're
- 1:59:12Speaker 33: there early.
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: Absolutely. Absolutely amazing. Again, we're talking with Barber Neff, Neff Productions.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: We're talking about this weekend's. CT Maritime Festival, all kinds
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: of things. Next weekend.
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: Next weekend.
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: The 11th.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: The 11th. 11th, 12th, 13th. So, yeah, so we can
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: continue to talk about this, but you don't just do
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: this festival. I mean, there's all kinds of other things
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: you're doing, right?
- 1:59:35Speaker 33: Yeah, so I do... I do.
- 1:59:39Speaker 33: Well, let me just run into.
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: Okay, you have some other things.
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: Let's finish up with that. This goes all together.
- 1:59:43Speaker 33: With Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival, we're recognizing 250 years of America,
- 1:59:48Speaker 33: and we're going to have something new. We'll have a
- 1:59:50Speaker 33: live history reenactors down on the waterfront.
- 1:59:53Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:59:54Speaker 33: And so we have that.
- 1:59:55Speaker 28: In turn.
- 1:59:57Speaker 33: So we talk about that. I also do a company
- 2:00:00Speaker 33: called Uncovering New London. And so this weekend, I have
- 2:00:04Speaker 33: a tour of American history on Sunday, $ 25 walking tour
- 2:00:09Speaker 33: for 90 minutes on Sunday morning that you can go to.
- 2:00:13Speaker 33: And my historian walks you through downtown on September 6, 1781.
- 2:00:21Speaker 33: And we walk you through what happened when Benedict Arnold
- 2:00:23Speaker 33: burned down our city.
- 2:00:24Speaker 5: I love it.
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: I love it.
- 2:00:26Speaker 9: I love it.
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're going to freeze you there for a minute,
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: and we're going to go to a break, and we'll
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: come back on the other side. Okay. All right, stay tuned. Hey, Wolf.
- 2:00:38Speaker 11: Hey, Wolf.
- 2:00:38Speaker 9: Wolfgang.
- 2:00:43Speaker 5: Traffic Alert on 94.9 News Now.
- 2:00:47Speaker 13: In East Lyme, a multi-car accident. I-95 northbound approaching exit 74.

- 2:03:37Speaker 15: When planning for retirement, a big mistake people make is
- 2:03:40Speaker 15: underestimating how much income they'll actually need. You may think
- 2:03:44Speaker 15: you can live on 70 or 80% of your working paycheck,
- 2:03:46Speaker 15: but that doesn't always hold up. Some expenses do indeed
- 2:03:49Speaker 15: go away, but others, like health care, home maintenance, even travel,
- 2:03:52Speaker 15: can stay the same or increase. It's something that Ken
- 2:03:54Speaker 15: and Nick Tumalo help their clients think through to determine
- 2:03:57Speaker 15: what their income.
- 2:03:58Speaker 22: Needs to be, not just on paper, but in the

- 2:06:09Speaker 5: We look forward to welcoming you.
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: All right, we are back with Barbara Neff of Neff Productions.
- 2:06:14Speaker 8: Barbara.
- 2:06:15Speaker 1: You've been talking all about the Maritime Festival, and you're
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: moving into some of the other businesses that you do.
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: Please tell us more. It's so much.
- 2:06:22Speaker 33: Yeah, so I opened up a new business called Uncovering
- 2:06:24Speaker 33: New London, and we have a kiosk in the train
- 2:06:26Speaker 33: station in Union Station in downtown New London, and we
- 2:06:28Speaker 33: run two to three tours every weekend. And you can
- 2:06:32Speaker 33: go on uncoveringnewlondon.com and find out what the tours are.
- 2:06:36Speaker 33: But we do Gilded Age tours, whaling tours. For next weekend,
- 2:06:40Speaker 33: we'll be doing a Maritime tour, American Revolutionary tours. Black
- 2:06:45Speaker 33: history tours. Our most popular ones are our haunted ones.
- 2:06:51Speaker 33: And we just got a great write-up from a daily
- 2:06:53Speaker 33: blogger from Connecticut. It's not just a haunted tour, but
- 2:06:57Speaker 33: it's a haunted history tour. So it's a great tour.
- 2:07:00Speaker 3: It really is.
- 2:07:02Speaker 33: We're going to start. We're doing some research about a
- 2:07:05Speaker 33: Coast Guard tour about people who lived in New London
- 2:07:07Speaker 33: and in the Coast Guard and their stories.
- 2:07:09Speaker 1: And we're going to start doing that. When you go
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: on a tour, how long does the tour take?
- 2:07:12Speaker 33: 90 minutes. So they're 90 minutes walking tours.
- 2:07:15Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:07:16Speaker 33: And it's all in downtown because that's where all the
- 2:07:18Speaker 33: history is.
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: Yeah. All right.
- 2:07:19Speaker 3: Wow.
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: Okay. So great tours. I love what you got going on. Yeah.
- 2:07:23Speaker 33: So we have that going on. October 7th is Food Stroll.
- 2:07:28Speaker 1: Oh, the Food Stroll. One of my favorites.
- 2:07:29Speaker 62: Yeah.
- 2:07:30Speaker 33: So we have Mike DeMauro is going to be one
- 2:07:34Speaker 33: of our judges this year. And then we have Denny Rivera,
- 2:07:37Speaker 33: who is a chef over at Nathan Hale School, who's
- 2:07:41Speaker 33: also going to be. And Bianca, who used to be
- 2:07:43Speaker 33: on the board of Ed in New London, are going
- 2:07:45Speaker 33: to be our judges.
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: And this is down on Bank Street?
- 2:07:46Speaker 33: This is Bank Street and State Street.
- 2:07:48Speaker 5: And State Street, okay.
- 2:07:48Speaker 33: You buy a ticket online at downtownnewlondon.com, and then you
- 2:07:52Speaker 33: have from 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock to eat. You
- 2:07:55Speaker 33: walk approximately three miles, and you are full when you're done.
- 2:07:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:08:00Speaker 33: It's little samples of 30 different restaurants in downtown New London.
- 2:08:04Speaker 33: It's not only downtown restaurants. We bring restaurants from other
- 2:08:07Speaker 33: parts of the city into downtown and set them up
- 2:08:10Speaker 33: in storefronts.
- 2:08:11Speaker 1: I did this last year, and I thought it was amazing.
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: I mean, the energy on... on the streets where people
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: were going. And, and at that time last year, I
- 2:08:22Speaker 1: think a few places weren't open yet, but they were
- 2:08:25Speaker 1: out serving some of their stuff, you know, kind of
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: getting ready and there was an energy and yes, you're
- 2:08:31Speaker 1: full by the time you get to the end of it.
- 2:08:34Speaker 33: Um, we have music on the streets. We have some
- 2:08:36Speaker 33: roaming entertainment to keep you busy.
- 2:08:38Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it would definitely had a vibe going on
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: that I thought, I thought was really, really good. And,
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: you know, for me, I ended up, uh, You know,
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: I went down there and it's just sort of, well,
- 2:08:47Speaker 1: it's kind of where I always end up at the Dutch.
- 2:08:50Speaker 33: You got to love the Dutch because they participate. Tim
- 2:08:52Speaker 33: always participates.
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Yeah.
- 2:08:54Speaker 33: I think he did a bean chili last year.
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's one of my favorite lunch spots. So hats
- 2:09:00Speaker 1: off to the Dutch.
- 2:09:01Speaker 33: Yeah, we got some new places, though. We have a
- 2:09:03Speaker 33: bar down there called the Marquis.
- 2:09:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:09:04Speaker 33: It's across from the Guard.
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:09:06Speaker 33: High end bar. um drinks down there and they're doing
- 2:09:09Speaker 33: food so.
- 2:09:10Speaker 1: They're going to participate waffle uh businesses.
- 2:09:12Speaker 33: Waffle business is there and they're going to be open
- 2:09:15Speaker 33: uh the thames club is going to open this year
- 2:09:16Speaker 33: so you'll be able to go into the thames club
- 2:09:18Speaker 33: which you don't always get to do so i'm sure
- 2:09:21Speaker 33: the guard will participate talks so yeah talks yeah from
- 2:09:25Speaker 33: we hear from the from the gallery out there.
- 2:09:28Speaker 38: Talks you're right talks is always good.
- 2:09:31Speaker 33: Yeah they have their um speakeasy downstairs Oh yeah.
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: That's great. You go there and you pull a book
- 2:09:37Speaker 1: and the bookcase opens up.
- 2:09:39Speaker 3: And you go down.
- 2:09:40Speaker 20: Oh, you're telling all the secrets.
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: I know, but it's great. It's so cool. It is
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: so cool. It's so Harry Potter. I love it. Um,
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: you know, um, yeah, no, this, it's a great festival, Barbara. And,
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: and yes, people will be, uh, you know, very pleased
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: at the, at the food, the quality of it all. Um,
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: and like you said, music, uh, Things are happening all
- 2:10:03Speaker 1: on the street. It is really its own little world.
- 2:10:06Speaker 42: Yeah.
- 2:10:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:10:07Speaker 33: We might be having I hear we might be having
- 2:10:09Speaker 33: a Halloween event and I might be doing the Christmas
- 2:10:12Speaker 33: tree event lighting of the Christmas tree. I've been a
- 2:10:15Speaker 33: call was made to me to see if I would
- 2:10:17Speaker 33: do it. So, OK, very interesting.
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: Lots of opportunities for for you, I'm sure, going forward
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: in the city and whatnot. So we're going to say
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: goodbye for now.
- 2:10:28Speaker 33: For now.
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: And I will see you next weekend, the 12th. Yeah.
- 2:10:33Speaker 1: And you will be in full glory rocking that, and
- 2:10:36Speaker 1: it's going to be great.
- 2:10:36Speaker 33: Thank you for having me.
- 2:10:37Speaker 1: Hey, great, great. We'll see you soon.
- 2:10:39Speaker 55: Bye.
- 2:10:40Speaker 5: They call him the goat. Yeah, you heard that right.
- 2:10:44Speaker 5: But hold up.
- 2:10:44Speaker 12: This ain't about Tom Brady throwing spirals.
- 2:10:47Speaker 14: Nah, this is the undisputed goat of the entertainment industry.
- 2:10:52Speaker 14: He's listed among America's 50 most influential leaders. The man
- 2:10:57Speaker 14: who's booked the stars, packed the houses, and simply changed
- 2:11:00Speaker 14: the way the game is played. He's not only revolutionized
- 2:11:04Speaker 14: the entertainment industry, but influenced how people thought about life, liberty,
- 2:11:08Speaker 14: and the pursuit of happiness.
- 2:11:10Speaker 5: With the mantra, there is always a way. The master,
- 2:11:14Speaker 5: the mogul, the one and only.
- 2:11:16Speaker 14: Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together, turn it up,
- 2:11:20Speaker 14: and let's welcome the icon himself, Tom Cantone, with Tom's Tips.
- 2:11:26Speaker 9: Tom Cantone.
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: Welcome to this week's edition of Tom's Tape.
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: This one's going to.
- 2:11:36Speaker 23: Be a little different on how I intro my little
- 2:11:41Speaker 23: topic for this morning. Because it happened to me in
- 2:11:45Speaker 23: real time when I went in to get ready for
- 2:11:48Speaker 23: the day in the bathroom. And I'm brushing my teeth innocently,
- 2:11:52Speaker 23: like everybody. And I look at my face in the mirror.
- 2:11:56Speaker 23: And all of a sudden I froze. And it dawned
- 2:12:00Speaker 23: on me in this strange, macabre thought that I've never
- 2:12:04Speaker 23: seen my face in real time. It's only been in
- 2:12:10Speaker 23: a mirror. And that goes for the 108 billion people
- 2:12:15Speaker 23: who lived before me and the 8 billion people who
- 2:12:18Speaker 23: live with me now.
- 2:12:19Speaker 3: We have all never seen our face.
- 2:12:24Speaker 23: So how we project that Our face is the perception
- 2:12:29Speaker 23: that really makes us different. There'll never be another you,
- 2:12:35Speaker 23: but it makes us different. So to me, that intro,
- 2:12:40Speaker 23: a little bit of the theme of what your face reveals.
- 2:12:45Speaker 23: And it reveals your character. Even before you speak, it
- 2:12:49Speaker 23: can tell a story. The way you look at someone
- 2:12:54Speaker 23: or how you look listening Are you tuned in or
- 2:12:58Speaker 23: tuned out?
- 2:12:59Speaker 3: I'm always aware of that. Your smile, is it fake
- 2:13:03Speaker 3: or real?
- 2:13:04Speaker 23: My mother always taught me, be careful of the ones
- 2:13:09Speaker 23: who smile all the time.
- 2:13:12Speaker 3: In my time, she's pretty much right.
- 2:13:15Speaker 23: You can see kindness on a person's face right away.
- 2:13:19Speaker 3: They're the genuinely.
- 2:13:22Speaker 23: Joyful ones and they're natural, their aura about them They
- 2:13:27Speaker 23: light up a room when they walk in.
- 2:13:29Speaker 3: People do have bad days.
- 2:13:31Speaker 61: I do.
- 2:13:32Speaker 23: Everybody does. Anxiety, stress, so much in today's world. But
- 2:13:36Speaker 23: that doesn't make you a bad person, those bad days.
- 2:13:41Speaker 23: But there is something in a person's face that when
- 2:13:43Speaker 23: it is consistent, reveals their true character. A person's face
- 2:13:49Speaker 23: can show how they listen, humility in how they respond
- 2:13:54Speaker 23: to criticism, compassion. and how they look at someone in need,
- 2:14:00Speaker 23: or if they're hiding something. You know, I think about
- 2:14:03Speaker 23: Smokey Robinson's song, Tears of a Clown. Now, if there's
- 2:14:07Speaker 23: a smile on your face, it's only there trying to
- 2:14:10Speaker 23: fool the public.
- 2:14:11Speaker 3: And that's true for a lot of us.
- 2:14:14Speaker 23: But the most revealing face are the ones we don't
- 2:14:19Speaker 23: know we are making.
- 2:14:21Speaker 3: Let me repeat that.
- 2:14:23Speaker 23: The most revealing face are the ones that we don't
- 2:14:26Speaker 23: know we are making. While someone else is speaking or
- 2:14:29Speaker 23: another person's success, it reveals who we are. Our faith
- 2:14:34Speaker 23: is a perfect window into our souls. What is on
- 2:14:39Speaker 23: our mind and our heart influences what will appear on
- 2:14:45Speaker 23: our face.
- 2:14:46Speaker 3: Our face becomes a mirror. We need to look into
- 2:14:49Speaker 3: the mirror more.
- 2:14:51Speaker 23: You know, I've always been good at reading someone's face
- 2:14:54Speaker 23: or their body language. Our expressions say a lot when
- 2:14:58Speaker 23: your words say nothing. That's when the inside shows on
- 2:15:03Speaker 23: the outside. That applies to me and everybody. But we
- 2:15:07Speaker 23: just love to pose and post what our face is
- 2:15:12Speaker 23: doing now 24-7. Why do you think Facebook has over
- 2:15:18Speaker 23: 3 billion users?
- 2:15:20Speaker 3: It's over half the entire Internet.
- 2:15:23Speaker 23: Look how everyone, all ages now, use their cell phone
- 2:15:26Speaker 23: to pose and post.
- 2:15:28Speaker 3: I see it all the times.
- 2:15:30Speaker 23: There's even selfie stations around where everyone can pose and
- 2:15:34Speaker 23: post on social media, which to me is the portal
- 2:15:39Speaker 23: to all evil. But that's for another Tom's take.
- 2:15:43Speaker 3: I get it. Pop culture is for the.
- 2:15:45Speaker 23: Young and the restless too, who just want to look
- 2:15:48Speaker 23: good and be seen. You know, look at the cosmetic industry, man. It's,
- 2:15:53Speaker 23: That's got $ 400 billion industry.
- 2:15:56Speaker 3: They're the real winners.
- 2:15:58Speaker 23: So getting back to my face topic of importance and
- 2:16:02Speaker 23: how we look, I will never see your face.
- 2:16:09Speaker 3: Again. It will always be for the first time. It's
- 2:16:13Speaker 3: your intellectual property. You own it. You own the only
- 2:16:17Speaker 3: one of its kind in all of mankind.
- 2:16:20Speaker 6: Use it to unite.
- 2:16:22Speaker 23: And connect with people. Use it to show kindness, empathy,
- 2:16:27Speaker 23: and comfort. Use that face as a weapon against the
- 2:16:33Speaker 23: two-faced crowd. You have the power to put your face
- 2:16:39Speaker 23: in the place of change. And when you do, people
- 2:16:43Speaker 23: will say, I've.
- 2:16:45Speaker 3: Just seen a face. I can't forget the time and place.
- 2:16:51Speaker 46: I've just seen a face I can't forget the time
- 2:16:54Speaker 46: or place where we just met she's just a girl
- 2:16:56Speaker 46: for me and I want all the world to see
- 2:16:59Speaker 46: we've met had it been another day I might have
- 2:17:06Speaker 46: looked the other way and I'd have never been aware
- 2:17:09Speaker 46: but as it is I'll dream of her tonight and.
- 2:17:12Speaker 47: I Falling, yes I am falling And she keeps calling me.
- 2:17:21Speaker 9: Back again.
- 2:17:23Speaker 46: I have never known the like of this I've been
- 2:17:26Speaker 46: alone and I have missed things and kept out of
- 2:17:29Speaker 46: sight But other girls were never quite like this.
- 2:17:31Speaker 65: Falling, yes I am falling And she keeps calling me
- 2:17:37Speaker 65: back again.
- 2:17:43Speaker 11: Fox News.

- 2:17:44Speaker 29: The jury in the Lindsay Clancy trial remains deadlocked this
- 2:17:47Speaker 29: morning as the defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, claims. one juror
- 2:17:50Speaker 29: is standing in the way of a verdict.
- 2:17:52Speaker 30: Yesterday, the judge called up each juror one by one,
- 2:17:55Speaker 30: reportedly asking them if they could follow his instructions. The
- 2:17:59Speaker 30: judge then clarified a reasonable doubt and sent the jury
- 2:18:02Speaker 30: back to deliberate further. Reddington wants to replace the holdout juror,

- 2:18:16Speaker 66: The decision marked a rare setback for Republicans in the
- 2:18:20Speaker 66: redistricting battle across the country. Republicans in Missouri had hoped

- 2:18:27Speaker 66: the midterm election.

- 2:20:23Speaker 45: have officially been 327 no-hitters thrown in Major League Baseball.
- 2:20:28Speaker 45: But 33 years ago today, on this very day, quite
- 2:20:32Speaker 45: possibly the greatest no-hitter in the history of the sport
- 2:20:35Speaker 45: was thrown when New York Yankee pitcher Jim Abbott threw
- 2:20:38Speaker 45: one against the Cleveland Indians. And of course, the thing
- 2:20:41Speaker 45: that made Jim Abbott's no-hitter and his career so amazing
- 2:20:45Speaker 45: was the fact that Jim Abbott was only born with
- 2:20:47Speaker 45: one hand. And honestly, the man's entire career still resonates
- 2:20:51Speaker 45: to this day as a shining example of what's possible
- 2:20:55Speaker 45: with perseverance. But on this day, 33 years ago, Jim
- 2:20:59Speaker 45: Abbott was more than just an inspiring, awesome story.
- 2:21:02Speaker 25: He was unhittable.
- 2:21:04Speaker 45: And it'll forever be one of the greatest moments in
- 2:21:06Speaker 45: the history of Major League Baseball.
- 2:21:08Speaker 25: With more than just a score, I'm Fish on Sports.
- 2:21:14Speaker 36: Good morning, I'm Rob Ray. Mostly sunny and humid today,

- 2:21:34Speaker 37: Opposition to AI data centers is growing in Connecticut despite

- 2:22:32Speaker 38: I'm Rob Ray. When news breaks, we break news.
- 2:22:38Speaker 1: All right, we are back. And before I introduce this
- 2:22:42Speaker 1: next guest to you, even as he called in, the
- 2:22:46Speaker 1: lights in the studio began to shimmer and shake and
- 2:22:51Speaker 1: sort of went dark and then came back on again. Anyway,
- 2:22:54Speaker 1: my good friend, hypnotist, magician, Jim Spinano. Jim, how are you? Wow.
- 2:23:00Speaker 42: Is that you, Steve Elsie?
- 2:23:01Speaker 1: It is me, Steve Elsie and Lady Mo.
- 2:23:04Speaker 47: Hey, Jim.
- 2:23:05Speaker 42: Lady Mo, what's up?
- 2:23:06Speaker 6: Hey, what's up?
- 2:23:07Speaker 42: I have to tell you, I can barely hear you guys, so.
- 2:23:09Speaker 20: Oh, okay.
- 2:23:10Speaker 9: Engineer?
- 2:23:11Speaker 1: Engineer is working on that.
- 2:23:12Speaker 20: Can you turn us.
- 2:23:16Speaker 2: On?
- 2:23:16Speaker 1: So, you know, Jim, I've known you for a while.
- 2:23:19Speaker 1: You've been doing magic and hypnosis for, I don't know, ever.
- 2:23:24Speaker 1: 112 years.
- 2:23:25Speaker 3: 112 years.
- 2:23:26Speaker 1: It's amazing. It's amazing. You don't look anything over.
- 2:23:29Speaker 57: 111, really.
- 2:23:30Speaker 5: I'm a vampire, too, Jim.
- 2:23:31Speaker 45: But.
- 2:23:33Speaker 1: But no, in high school, you were the guy, even
- 2:23:37Speaker 1: for me, that did the hypnosis shows and did all
- 2:23:40Speaker 1: the stuff. Jim, how do you get your start in
- 2:23:42Speaker 1: this sort of industry?
- 2:23:44Speaker 20: Yeah you did mine too jim.
- 2:23:46Speaker 1: Yeah you did and uh and it was it was
- 2:23:49Speaker 1: great and and everybody loved it then and they and
- 2:23:51Speaker 1: everybody you know if you haven't seen jim spinato live
- 2:23:53Speaker 1: you will love him now even more.
- 2:23:55Speaker 20: But classic and iconic.
- 2:23:57Speaker 1: Yeah no but jim how do you get into how
- 2:23:59Speaker 1: do you get into this industry what what what what
- 2:24:01Speaker 1: started with you when you just wake up one day
- 2:24:03Speaker 1: and says you know i want to get into this
- 2:24:05Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 2:24:06Speaker 42: Well you know steve well um Back in, I don't know,
- 2:24:12Speaker 42: I went full-time in 87, but then as a magician.
- 2:24:15Speaker 42: But then in the early 90s, I met this hypnotist
- 2:24:19Speaker 42: in Rhode Island who was doing some adult-oriented hypnosis shows.
- 2:24:24Speaker 42: And he asked me to be his opening act. And
- 2:24:26Speaker 42: his name was Frank Santos. He was the best, man.
- 2:24:28Speaker 42: He was the best. So I traveled around with Frank
- 2:24:31Speaker 42: on and off for five years as his opening act
- 2:24:33Speaker 42: at his hypnosis shows.
- 2:24:34Speaker 43: And then.
- 2:24:36Speaker 42: And then over the years, I just picked up hypnosis,
- 2:24:38Speaker 42: working for him, and then I dropped the magic and
- 2:24:41Speaker 42: went full-time hypnotist in the college market for about, I
- 2:24:46Speaker 42: don't know, must have been like 25, about 25 years.
- 2:24:50Speaker 42: It was a blast. I'm still doing some college. It's
- 2:24:52Speaker 42: not as much as I used to because I'm really
- 2:24:54Speaker 42: concentrating on my gig at the casino now.
- 2:24:56Speaker 1: But, Jim, like learning the craft. It's you at home.
- 2:24:59Speaker 42: I'm sorry, Steve, but I can bear with you.
- 2:25:00Speaker 1: All right, let me try it again. Learning the craft
- 2:25:03Speaker 1: of all this, Jim. I know you've been doing it
- 2:25:05Speaker 1: for a while. It's you at home, or do you
- 2:25:07Speaker 1: have a teacher?
- 2:25:09Speaker 42: Well, again, I worked with Frank so often. It was
- 2:25:12Speaker 42: almost by osmosis that I learned it. And then I
- 2:25:15Speaker 42: studied it as well, because there's a ton of stuff
- 2:25:17Speaker 42: you have to know. And there were a ton of
- 2:25:19Speaker 42: books out there by professionals. But the.
- 2:25:23Speaker 42: Most of my, the majority of my training came from
- 2:25:25Speaker 42: watching and learning from Frank. Because, again, I worked with
- 2:25:28Speaker 42: him so often. I would open up for him in
- 2:25:30Speaker 42: colleges and comedy clubs. He was massive. He was massive
- 2:25:35Speaker 42: in the comedy club. Because the comedy clubs, like, exploded
- 2:25:38Speaker 42: in the 90s. Yep. And he did a ton of them,
- 2:25:41Speaker 42: and he tagged me along. And that was great. So, again,
- 2:25:44Speaker 42: watching him, listening to him, asking him questions, and then
- 2:25:47Speaker 42: studying on the side as well. It's been a blast, man.
- 2:25:50Speaker 42: It's been fun.
- 2:25:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so, and, you know, obviously you're still doing that,
- 2:25:54Speaker 1: but you also, what do you host, the Comics Club
- 2:25:57Speaker 1: at Mohegan Sun? What's your relationship there?
- 2:26:01Speaker 42: Well, you know what, about, actually, it was like 16
- 2:26:04Speaker 42: years ago, I heard about this new club at Fox,
- 2:26:07Speaker 42: what's called Comics.
- 2:26:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:26:09Speaker 42: So I emailed them, I said, you know, told them
- 2:26:11Speaker 42: what I did, I'm a hypnotist, blah, blah, blah, and blah, blah.
- 2:26:14Speaker 42: At the time, they had another hypnotist. I guess the
- 2:26:18Speaker 42: guy did like two shows, but he sucked so bad.
- 2:26:20Speaker 42: He was horrible. So 16 years ago, they offered me
- 2:26:28Speaker 42: a steady gig. They offered me a residency as the
- 2:26:30Speaker 42: resident hypnotist. And that's how I started with comics 16
- 2:26:35Speaker 42: years ago. But they also knew that I did magic,
- 2:26:38Speaker 42: because magic was my first love. Magic is... You know,
- 2:26:41Speaker 42: I tell people all the time, man, magic is not
- 2:26:43Speaker 42: a job. It's not a hobby. It's a way of life.
- 2:26:47Speaker 42: I mean, that's all I do. Every day I'm either
- 2:26:49Speaker 42: reading it or practicing it. So then, so I was
- 2:26:53Speaker 42: their house hypnotist for, and I still am, but I
- 2:26:55Speaker 42: was their house hypnotist for like six years. And then
- 2:26:58Speaker 42: they asked me, hey, do you want to do some
- 2:26:59Speaker 42: magic as well? And I said, yeah. So that's where
- 2:27:02Speaker 42: I'm at now. I'm doing four adult comedy magic shows
- 2:27:06Speaker 42: four days a week, and I'm still doing the hypnosis
- 2:27:08Speaker 42: show periodically, not as often as I used to. Yep.
- 2:27:11Speaker 1: Now, you know, you talk about magic every day, and
- 2:27:15Speaker 1: Lady Mo, maybe you can join in with this one.
- 2:27:17Speaker 42: Sure.
- 2:27:17Speaker 1: So are you, do you believe, like, tarot cards, do
- 2:27:21Speaker 1: you believe psychics, do you believe this stuff really works,
- 2:27:24Speaker 1: or is this a frame of mind?
- 2:27:25Speaker 42: Me?
- 2:27:26Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 2:27:27Speaker 42: I know nothing, I know nothing about it. I know
- 2:27:29Speaker 42: little about it.
- 2:27:30Speaker 8: Really?
- 2:27:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:27:31Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 2:27:31Speaker 42: I guess, I mean, people ask me all the time
- 2:27:34Speaker 42: how I feel about psychics.
- 2:27:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:27:35Speaker 42: A lot of people hate psychics. My friend Charlie hates psychics.
- 2:27:38Speaker 42: I actually like psychics, I believe it's real.
- 2:27:40Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:27:41Speaker 42: Yeah.
- 2:27:42Speaker 57: So, Jim, I just actually, I wanted to touch upon
- 2:27:46Speaker 57: the tool that you use, you know, that you've really
- 2:27:50Speaker 57: honed in on from a comedy perspective. But the hypnosis
- 2:27:56Speaker 57: piece is, is the common thread when it comes to
- 2:28:01Speaker 57: understanding people sort of in this weird conscious space where
- 2:28:09Speaker 57: they're still in their human bodies, but maybe speaking or
- 2:28:18Speaker 57: recognizing something, you know, their guard is down. I wanted
- 2:28:23Speaker 57: to see if there was maybe an approach here for
- 2:28:26Speaker 57: healing or trauma or hypnosis for energy to clear ailments
- 2:28:35Speaker 57: or anything of that sort.
- 2:28:37Speaker 20: Could you maybe think about that?
- 2:28:40Speaker 42: Well, I will tell you, hypnosis will not cure illness,
- 2:28:44Speaker 42: but it will help you deal with it, number one.
- 2:28:46Speaker 42: I am simply a stage hypnotist, which means I do
- 2:28:49Speaker 42: it for entertainment purposes. There are hypnotists who deal with
- 2:28:52Speaker 42: other things, and they're called hypnotherapists.
- 2:28:54Speaker 25: Of which I am not.
- 2:28:56Speaker 42: They have a different training than what I do.
- 2:28:58Speaker 7: Understood.
- 2:28:59Speaker 42: Yeah. Understood. You know what I have to tell you?
- 2:29:03Speaker 42: Hypnosis isn't as spooky as people think it is. People
- 2:29:07Speaker 42: assume that if someone's hypnotized, they lose all control. They'll
- 2:29:11Speaker 42: say and they'll do anything that the hypnotist says, and
- 2:29:14Speaker 42: that's not true. Under hypnosis, somebody is simply, they lose
- 2:29:20Speaker 42: their inhibitions. Like when I tell them in a hypnosis show,
- 2:29:24Speaker 42: if I tell them when I say a certain word,
- 2:29:26Speaker 42: you're going to feel a pinch on your butt coming
- 2:29:30Speaker 42: from that chair. And they're in their head saying, what's
- 2:29:32Speaker 42: he talking about? But that sounds like fun. You know
- 2:29:34Speaker 42: what I mean?
- 2:29:34Speaker 44: Yeah.
- 2:29:35Speaker 42: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:29:36Speaker 57: Like maybe they've had a cocktail or two.
- 2:29:38Speaker 59: Yeah.
- 2:29:38Speaker 42: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, sometimes it's worse, man. I've had
- 2:29:42Speaker 42: some people volunteer at the club and they've Kind of
- 2:29:44Speaker 42: like cocked, and I just dismiss them because that– people
- 2:29:48Speaker 42: think if you're drunk, it's easier to be hypnotized. People
- 2:29:50Speaker 42: think that if you're stupid, it's easier to be hypnotized,
- 2:29:53Speaker 42: which is actually just the opposite. The brighter somebody is,
- 2:29:57Speaker 42: the easier it is to hypnotize them.
- 2:29:58Speaker 9: Sure.
- 2:29:58Speaker 20: Fascinating.
- 2:29:59Speaker 1: But there's more to it.
- 2:30:00Speaker 42: Because they have an incredible ability to concentrate. Like when
- 2:30:04Speaker 42: I was– I'm still in the college market, but not
- 2:30:07Speaker 42: like I used to. But when I was really, really
- 2:30:09Speaker 42: into it, the easiest kids to hypnotize were like the
- 2:30:13Speaker 42: really bright ones. Like when I went to MIT, I
- 2:30:16Speaker 42: would get 100 volunteers, and they would all go under
- 2:30:19Speaker 42: because they're so brilliant. They have an unbelievable ability to concentrate.
- 2:30:22Speaker 20: I'm convinced.
- 2:30:23Speaker 42: Isn't that crazy?
- 2:30:24Speaker 57: MIT is like this hotbed of– it's like this portal.
- 2:30:32Speaker 57: I worked in– I worked in biotech right next to MIT.
- 2:30:37Speaker 57: I walked through MIT all the time. I walked through
- 2:30:39Speaker 57: Harvard all the time. And, yeah, we worked on renewable energy, biofuels.
- 2:30:45Speaker 57: We took cellulosic sugarcane waste from farmers in Louisiana and
- 2:30:52Speaker 57: basically distilled it into alcohol. We tapped into the knowledge
- 2:30:58Speaker 57: of former brewmasters, Harpoon Brewery, Budweiser. and such and um
- 2:31:07Speaker 57: and when i was meeting with mi tears i had
- 2:31:12Speaker 57: the same observation jim.
- 2:31:15Speaker 20: It is it is remarkable um.
- 2:31:20Speaker 57: The pioneering the the blend of uh smarts, but also funny,
- 2:31:31Speaker 57: like you, in your hypnotist routine.
- 2:31:35Speaker 1: Well, that's what I would add. Jim, I'm just going
- 2:31:37Speaker 1: to add a couple things. So, you know, you have
- 2:31:39Speaker 1: to be good at your craft.
- 2:31:40Speaker 5: I get it.
- 2:31:41Speaker 3: And you are.
- 2:31:42Speaker 1: But there's one thing that you bring that, you know,
- 2:31:46Speaker 1: and I've seen a lot of magicians and hypnotists over
- 2:31:49Speaker 1: my life. There's one thing that you bring that's a
- 2:31:51Speaker 1: little bit different. It's your charisma to it all.
- 2:31:54Speaker 8: Right?
- 2:31:55Speaker 1: And, you know, it's like, There's the stage, hypnosis, and
- 2:32:01Speaker 1: magic part of it. And then there's your ability to
- 2:32:03Speaker 1: connect with the audiences and have the personality and charisma
- 2:32:06Speaker 1: to really connect the two. And that's where you stand
- 2:32:09Speaker 1: out above just about everybody I've seen.
- 2:32:11Speaker 42: Well, that's for you to say.
- 2:32:13Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 2:32:14Speaker 3: It's important.
- 2:32:15Speaker 42: I mean, listen, you're an entertainer. It's really important. You know,
- 2:32:18Speaker 42: entertainers like you and I, Shouldn't be talking at people.
- 2:32:22Speaker 42: You should be talking to them, and I think that's
- 2:32:23Speaker 42: a huge difference.
- 2:32:25Speaker 25: Agreed.
- 2:32:26Speaker 18: Agreed.
- 2:32:27Speaker 1: Jim, what do you have coming up in the future
- 2:32:29Speaker 1: that we all can go see?
- 2:32:30Speaker 42: Well, Steve, I have my four-day residency. I like that phrase,
- 2:32:36Speaker 42: by the way. I have a four-day residency, four days
- 2:32:40Speaker 42: per week at the Mohegan Sun Casino at comics. So
- 2:32:43Speaker 42: what I'm doing with comics now is– Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
- 2:32:47Speaker 42: and Sunday, I'm doing, again, this is an adult-based comedy
- 2:32:50Speaker 42: magic show, so you don't want to bring your kids.
- 2:32:53Speaker 20: Not for children.
- 2:32:54Speaker 42: I advertise it as Not Your Kids Magic Show.
- 2:32:59Speaker 20: Get a babysitter.
- 2:33:03Speaker 42: You know what? It's a comedy club. It's a casino.
- 2:33:08Speaker 42: My opinion, if I were to walk on stage and go, Hi, people.
- 2:33:12Speaker 42: Can I show you a trick with a rabbit? Yes.
- 2:33:15Speaker 42: It wouldn't fly at a comedy club, right?
- 2:33:17Speaker 2: No.
- 2:33:17Speaker 42: But if I go in there and talk a little
- 2:33:18Speaker 42: edgy and.
- 2:33:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:33:19Speaker 20: A little provocative.
- 2:33:21Speaker 42: Yeah, and the magic I'm doing is stuff that you really,
- 2:33:24Speaker 42: really don't see other magicians doing. I kind of take
- 2:33:26Speaker 42: pride in that.
- 2:33:27Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 2:33:28Speaker 42: So I'm doing that four days a week. And then
- 2:33:30Speaker 42: with the hypnosis show, when I started with them, I
- 2:33:32Speaker 42: was doing hypnosis like... I think it was... At the minimum,
- 2:33:36Speaker 42: when I started, I was doing it like twice a month.
- 2:33:39Speaker 42: But now what I'm doing now is I'm only doing
- 2:33:41Speaker 42: hypnosis every other month. So my next hypnosis show at
- 2:33:44Speaker 42: comics is actually on the 26th of September. If you
- 2:33:48Speaker 42: want to give away some tickets, Steve, it's okay with me.
- 2:33:50Speaker 1: All right. Call in now. We'll give you some tickets.
- 2:33:52Speaker 8: 860-464-9490.
- 2:33:53Speaker 1: That would be tickets to Jim Sperano at two tickets.
- 2:33:55Speaker 1: This is really important.
- 2:34:03Speaker 42: I was contacted by the Wings of Freedom animal rescue people.
- 2:34:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:34:09Speaker 46: Oh.
- 2:34:09Speaker 42: You know who they are?
- 2:34:11Speaker 1: I don't know, but you can tell me.
- 2:34:12Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 2:34:13Speaker 42: Well, they rescue animals and get them adopted.
- 2:34:16Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 2:34:17Speaker 42: It's a great cause. And they call me, and we're
- 2:34:19Speaker 42: doing a fundraiser for that event. And that fundraiser is
- 2:34:22Speaker 42: on the 19th of September at the Sprott Rod and
- 2:34:28Speaker 42: Gun Club.
- 2:34:28Speaker 5: I love it.
- 2:34:29Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:34:29Speaker 42: Yeah, so I'm really looking forward to that, man.
- 2:34:32Speaker 1: You know, that's the other thing, you know, Jim. It's
- 2:34:36Speaker 1: not like you're just going to the casinos and putting
- 2:34:38Speaker 1: out shows. Like, this is for a cause, right? So
- 2:34:42Speaker 1: you're a bit more than just, you know, the entertainer.
- 2:34:44Speaker 1: You have, you know, you have a little bit of
- 2:34:46Speaker 1: the humanitarian part of you that using your talents to
- 2:34:51Speaker 1: get some of these dogs and animals rescued, I would imagine, right?
- 2:34:55Speaker 42: Yeah. It's a great cause, thanks.
- 2:34:57Speaker 20: It's being of service. It's combining....
- 2:35:01Speaker 57: Your ability and integrating it into the community, getting people
- 2:35:07Speaker 57: out to have fun, which that's something we have really
- 2:35:15Speaker 57: forgotten how to do.
- 2:35:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:35:18Speaker 20: Fun and play.
- 2:35:19Speaker 57: I think we should make all make an effort this
- 2:35:24Speaker 57: weekend to have more of it.
- 2:35:27Speaker 20: Play and have fun.
- 2:35:28Speaker 57: And hypnotism, going to see you, is one of the
- 2:35:32Speaker 57: ways you can do that.
- 2:35:33Speaker 5: Yeah, well, thanks.
- 2:35:34Speaker 42: You know what, man? I must be 128 years old now,
- 2:35:38Speaker 42: but I'm still loving this stuff. It's so much fun.
- 2:35:41Speaker 42: And you know what's really cool, too, is that the
- 2:35:44Speaker 42: audiences at the casino, they're all trans people, so it's
- 2:35:47Speaker 42: different people every week.
- 2:35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:35:49Speaker 42: And it's different reactions to each trick. It's just, listen, man,
- 2:35:54Speaker 42: it's a blast.
- 2:35:55Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's great.
- 2:35:56Speaker 4: It's great.
- 2:35:56Speaker 1: Now, listen, you're not just a legendary magician and hypnotist,
- 2:36:01Speaker 1: but you follow music quite well, Jim, right?
- 2:36:05Speaker 42: Well, you know that, Mr.
- 2:36:06Speaker 1: Elsie. I do, and we've had many conversations about music,
- 2:36:09Speaker 1: so I'm just going to kind of change the topic
- 2:36:11Speaker 1: a little bit. What are you listening to these days?
- 2:36:13Speaker 1: What's kind of getting you all stoked up?
- 2:36:15Speaker 42: You know what? Listen, I will preface this conversation by,
- 2:36:19Speaker 42: first of all, apologizing to you, and I'll tell you
- 2:36:21Speaker 42: that I love you, but I am on... I'm embarrassed
- 2:36:26Speaker 42: to tell you this, but I got turned on to
- 2:36:28Speaker 42: an AI thing. And there's one artist, if you want
- 2:36:33Speaker 42: to call it an artist.
- 2:36:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:36:35Speaker 42: I've been listening to this AI artist for a couple
- 2:36:38Speaker 42: of weeks now. I just can't get enough of this
- 2:36:40Speaker 42: particular thing.
- 2:36:41Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:36:45Speaker 42: But as good as it sounds, it's kind of hard
- 2:36:47Speaker 42: for me to support because you've got guys like you
- 2:36:49Speaker 42: who are writing their own material and performing their own material.
- 2:36:51Speaker 42: But this AI thing I really like.
- 2:36:53Speaker 44: However.
- 2:36:55Speaker 42: I'm still listening to the guys you and I have
- 2:36:56Speaker 42: talked about for years.
- 2:36:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Jim, who's the AI?
- 2:36:59Speaker 2: The Eagles, the Beatles, of course.
- 2:37:01Speaker 1: But really quick, before we go to the real stuff,
- 2:37:02Speaker 1: who is the AI? Somebody we can check out?
- 2:37:06Speaker 42: Eddie Dalton. D-A-L-T-O-N. Steve, do me a favor. Let's do
- 2:37:11Speaker 42: it when you get a chance to call me later today.
- 2:37:12Speaker 4: Let me know what you think.
- 2:37:13Speaker 1: Eddie Dalton. All right.
- 2:37:15Speaker 9: Sure.
- 2:37:16Speaker 1: It's so funny. It's like a real name to something
- 2:37:19Speaker 1: that isn't real.
- 2:37:19Speaker 5: It's very funny.
- 2:37:20Speaker 20: This is beyond.
- 2:37:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:37:21Speaker 25: No, but.
- 2:37:23Speaker 1: But I know you like the Eagles. Oh.
- 2:37:26Speaker 44: Oh.
- 2:37:26Speaker 3: Oh.
- 2:37:27Speaker 1: Lee's playing something.
- 2:37:28Speaker 60: That's Eddie Dalton, baby.
- 2:37:30Speaker 1: This is Eddie Dalton right here?
- 2:37:31Speaker 42: Oh, my God. Listen to this.
- 2:37:33Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:37:33Speaker 1: We're going to give it a listen right now.
- 2:37:36Speaker 7: All right.
- 2:37:39Speaker 3: Yeah. It's amazing.
- 2:37:41Speaker 1: It's not real.
- 2:37:44Speaker 3: Where did all the time go?
- 2:37:49Speaker 46: The years went.
- 2:37:50Speaker 3: Fast, but the days went slow.
- 2:37:54Speaker 1: The perfect voice right there, right?
- 2:37:55Speaker 6: The man in the mirror is older than me.
- 2:37:58Speaker 42: Wow.
- 2:38:00Speaker 3: He's standing where I used to be.
- 2:38:03Speaker 1: Eddie Dalton.
- 2:38:04Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 2:38:05Speaker 20: Okay, this is yummy.
- 2:38:06Speaker 1: Yeah, right? You know, so with the exception of Eddie Dalton,
- 2:38:11Speaker 1: is there anything new that is real that's somebody that's
- 2:38:14Speaker 1: catching your eye?
- 2:38:16Speaker 42: No, you know, I'm... I'm just going back to the
- 2:38:21Speaker 42: old stuff. I will tell you what's pissing me off
- 2:38:25Speaker 42: really bad.
- 2:38:25Speaker 1: I like where this is going already.
- 2:38:28Speaker 9: Come on, bring it.
- 2:38:28Speaker 20: What's making you mad?
- 2:38:30Speaker 42: Really, really bad. Journey is pissing me off. Journey has
- 2:38:34Speaker 42: to stop it.
- 2:38:35Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:38:36Speaker 42: Why? Because Journey, I mean, first of all, Steve Perry,
- 2:38:42Speaker 42: the voice. Okay, so now they got this guy from
- 2:38:44Speaker 42: the Philippines who sounded like he was really. Now they
- 2:38:47Speaker 42: have this guy, Hugo Valenti. who kind of sounds like Steve,
- 2:38:52Speaker 42: but he's doing his best to look exactly like Steve,
- 2:38:55Speaker 42: and his body motions are exactly like Steve. And, as
- 2:38:58Speaker 42: I said three times before, it's pissing me off.
- 2:39:01Speaker 20: Doppelganger.
- 2:39:02Speaker 1: Unfortunately, unless it's Steve, I won't be at a Journey show.
- 2:39:08Speaker 42: Say that again?
- 2:39:09Speaker 1: Unless it's Steve Perry, I won't be at a Journey show.
- 2:39:12Speaker 42: A quick story. I had lunch with Steve Perry about
- 2:39:13Speaker 42: five years ago.
- 2:39:14Speaker 4: Really?
- 2:39:15Speaker 7: What?
- 2:39:16Speaker 42: It wasn't just me. It was 200 invited guests, and
- 2:39:19Speaker 42: I was really fortunate to get that. But he was unbelievable.
- 2:39:22Speaker 42: And I'll tell you another thing. Another band who I
- 2:39:24Speaker 42: used to love and is also making me angry is Foreigner.
- 2:39:28Speaker 42: There's not one original member left for Foreigner.
- 2:39:30Speaker 1: It's a cover band of a cover band. It's a
- 2:39:32Speaker 1: cover band.
- 2:39:32Speaker 4: That's right.
- 2:39:33Speaker 42: And Lou Graham got six. I actually worked with Lou
- 2:39:37Speaker 42: Graham at the Woodstock Fair several years ago. Kind of
- 2:39:40Speaker 42: doesn't have his voice like he used to, and this
- 2:39:42Speaker 42: new guy, Kelly, was really great. But the current lineup of.
- 2:39:45Speaker 11: Foreigner, oh, my God, stop it.
- 2:39:47Speaker 57: So Steve Perry, shout out to him when he sings, Oh, Sherry. Okay,
- 2:39:53Speaker 57: one of my favorite openings to a song ever. And then, weirdly,
- 2:39:59Speaker 57: I'm sorry, where was the second singer from you said?
- 2:40:03Speaker 20: Thailand?
- 2:40:04Speaker 42: He was from Philippines. Philippines.
- 2:40:05Speaker 20: Philippines.
- 2:40:06Speaker 57: Okay, so that also, Philippines is a, I went to an,
- 2:40:11Speaker 57: I saw an Anthony Bourdain special where he visited the
- 2:40:16Speaker 57: Philippines because it's also this hotbed of music.
- 2:40:19Speaker 20: Like, impersonation.
- 2:40:21Speaker 57: There's some, there's some researched gene, and I mean this,
- 2:40:25Speaker 57: there's some researched gene in their lineage that allows them
- 2:40:30Speaker 57: to have this musical styling and technical, like, technical ability
- 2:40:36Speaker 57: to impersonate accurately and musically.
- 2:40:39Speaker 1: Really?
- 2:40:40Speaker 55: Really.
- 2:40:41Speaker 9: Look it up.
- 2:40:41Speaker 42: That's pretty cool.
- 2:40:42Speaker 1: Jim, we've seen a concert of two together. Have we not?
- 2:40:45Speaker 42: Yeah. Did you come see Dire Straits with me years ago?
- 2:40:49Speaker 18: No.
- 2:40:49Speaker 9: You know what?
- 2:40:52Speaker 1: No, it was– what's his name with the bird hat?
- 2:40:55Speaker 1: Bird– what the heck's his name? Why don't we go–
- 2:40:59Speaker 1: didn't we go see– Jimmy Buffett? Yeah, Jimmy Buffett. Didn't
- 2:41:03Speaker 1: we meet you and Don Concagia? Did we not do that?
- 2:41:07Speaker 42: It may have been. I'm going to meet you and
- 2:41:10Speaker 42: Duncan Cage.
- 2:41:11Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 2:41:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was the three of us,
- 2:41:14Speaker 1: and somehow we went there. And we went to another one, too,
- 2:41:17Speaker 1: and I can't remember what it was.
- 2:41:18Speaker 42: I'll tell you who I went to, and again, because
- 2:41:20Speaker 42: I am ancient right now.
- 2:41:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:41:22Speaker 42: But guess who?
- 2:41:23Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Okay.
- 2:41:24Speaker 42: With Don Felder from the Eagles as the opening act?
- 2:41:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:41:27Speaker 5: Oh, my God, that was great.
- 2:41:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:41:29Speaker 42: That was great.
- 2:41:29Speaker 1: Well, Jim, listen, hey, always a pleasure to talk to you, man.
- 2:41:33Speaker 4: Well, thanks.
- 2:41:35Speaker 20: So good.
- 2:41:36Speaker 1: Everybody out there, if you haven't seen Jim Spinato, if
- 2:41:38Speaker 1: you haven't been to the Comics Club, get to the
- 2:41:41Speaker 1: Comics Club.
- 2:41:42Speaker 20: Get out.
- 2:41:43Speaker 4: Come on.
- 2:41:44Speaker 1: Jim, you got a residency. When does it start? What
- 2:41:47Speaker 1: is it, Thursday, Friday, Saturday?
- 2:41:48Speaker 3: What days?
- 2:41:49Speaker 42: Yeah, it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But the problem
- 2:41:53Speaker 42: with my show is that my shows are early. My
- 2:41:56Speaker 42: shows are at 5 o'clock.
- 2:41:59Speaker 1: That's right. 5 o'clock. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Everybody, be there. Jim,
- 2:42:04Speaker 1: thanks a whole bunch.
- 2:42:05Speaker 9: Thank you, guys.
- 2:42:05Speaker 42: See you.
- 2:42:06Speaker 1: We'll talk to you soon. All right, everybody. You know,
- 2:42:09Speaker 1: enjoy the long weekends. You know, Monday is going to
- 2:42:12Speaker 1: be the best of the rest on Monday. And don't forget,
- 2:42:15Speaker 1: next Friday, the incredible 25th. Yes, the 9-11 special. Stay tuned.
- 2:42:23Speaker 3: Be here.
- 2:42:24Speaker 1: Be curious. I'll see you next time. I'm Steve Elsie.
- 2:42:28Speaker 18: Bye.
