- 0:00Speaker 1: Football at Four powered by the Inside of the Birds podcasts,
- 0:03Speaker 1: brought to you by the Fanatic Sportsbook at Ocean Casino
- 0:06Speaker 1: Resort in Atlantic City. We'll be there on Monday. Today.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We're live at the Roost in a Garboro township. Yes,
- 0:14Speaker 1: a lot of people inside hanging out, having a nice
- 0:16Speaker 1: cold one watching the Ryder Cup. That's how everybody got
- 0:19Speaker 1: their day started. We started on the golf course here.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Now we're at Football at four as the Eagles are,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I believe Andrew, their flight is to Tampa in fifteen minutes.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They are leaving for Tampa early this year to try
- 0:33Speaker 1: to do something a little different as Andrew to checko
- 0:35Speaker 1: from the Inside the Birds podcast joins us for a
- 0:38Speaker 1: Football at four Friday edition. Welcome back, Andrew. What's up
- 0:41Speaker 1: my man?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Mabe, mikel Warret all good.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And obviously you've seen this team practicing all this week
- 0:49Speaker 1: getting ready for this Tampa Bay game, and the big
- 0:52Speaker 1: thing has been the loss of Nolan Smith. So you
- 0:55Speaker 1: have any feel on how they are going to kind
- 0:58Speaker 1: of compensate for him not being out on the field,
- 1:02Speaker 1: who replaces those snaps and how they kind of try to,
- 1:06Speaker 1: you know, replace him.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Well, Aziz Ojulari would make the most sense from a
- 1:11Speaker 2: pass rushing standpoint. They have Patrick Johnson and Obo Okoronkwell
- 1:15Speaker 2: there as well, who is hes Ojalari and Obo have
- 1:19Speaker 2: played a lot of snaps in the NFL before, so
- 1:21Speaker 2: I think it would behoove the Eagles to stockpile some
- 1:24Speaker 2: depth there if given the heat and the conditions that
- 1:27Speaker 2: they're going to be up against. So last week they
- 1:29Speaker 2: sat Patrick Johnson, he wasn't active despite him being a
- 1:32Speaker 2: Special Team star wart. So it wouldn't surprise me to
- 1:34Speaker 2: see Ojulari and potentially Okaronquall active for the first time
- 1:38Speaker 2: this season, just to give them more depth in the rotation.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You know, how big of uh? I know, losing Smith
- 1:46Speaker 1: big deal. He's probably their best pass rusher. But how
- 1:49Speaker 1: important is he to what Vic Fangio likes to make
- 1:53Speaker 1: his defense really work?
- 1:56Speaker 2: I mean he's really important. And I mean I'm not
- 1:59Speaker 2: one of the box score watch and I know for
- 2:01Speaker 2: some who may you see the lack of stats, the
- 2:04Speaker 2: lack of production there in that area, and that maybe
- 2:07Speaker 2: colors your perception, But make no mistake about it, Nolan
- 2:10Speaker 2: Smith is a tenacious, physical run defender. He sets the
- 2:14Speaker 2: edge and he just continues to grow and evolve in
- 2:18Speaker 2: his role and become more comfortable. And I've seen refinement
- 2:22Speaker 2: in his game as a pass rusher. Now that's that's
- 2:25Speaker 2: a that's a big loss, especially when he was sort
- 2:28Speaker 2: of fronting that unit. And I believe that he's a player.
- 2:31Speaker 2: The more he plays, the better he gets, and you
- 2:33Speaker 2: would have seen more production over the next you know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: few games. But for unfortunately for him, he's going to
- 2:39Speaker 2: be sidelined for a while and it's going to be
- 2:42Speaker 2: up to the others to step up. But this is
- 2:44Speaker 2: why the Eagles have stockpile depth there and and and
- 2:47Speaker 2: you look at it and you say they have seven
- 2:49Speaker 2: edge rushers. Well, not that you can forecast injuries, but
- 2:53Speaker 2: they they kept players who they believe in and eventually
- 2:57Speaker 2: your time' is gonna come. And Nick Sirianni always talks
- 2:59Speaker 2: about how everyone's role isn't the same, but it's vitally
- 3:03Speaker 2: important to the success of the football team. And you
- 3:05Speaker 2: have to be ready when when your numbers called.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Andrew to check us with us on a Friday edition
- 3:11Speaker 1: of Football at four, Let's look at the Eagles offense
- 3:13Speaker 1: real quick, because you know, the last time they played
- 3:16Speaker 1: Tampa and many times they play a Tampa, it seems
- 3:18Speaker 1: that they're shorthanded. AJ Brown missed last year's game, DeVante
- 3:22Speaker 1: Smith last year's game. The Lane Johnson missed last year's game.
- 3:25Speaker 1: A J. Brown missed the wildcard game, so they have
- 3:28Speaker 1: not had AJ in a couple of these games. So
- 3:32Speaker 1: do we anticipate AJ Brown playing in the game, being
- 3:36Speaker 1: a factor in this game after we finally saw them
- 3:39Speaker 1: get him going in the back end of last week's game.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Well, yeah, he's gonna play, and I think he's going
- 3:45Speaker 2: to be the the X factor of this game because
- 3:47Speaker 2: I do envision the Eagle was becoming a little bit
- 3:50Speaker 2: more aggressive and trying to open things up using the
- 3:53Speaker 2: pass to set up the run, which is a little
- 3:55Speaker 2: bit different. But AJ Brown has a good matchup whether
- 3:58Speaker 2: he's calling up against Iya mcm who, of course is
- 4:01Speaker 2: the twin brother of former Eagles safety Tristan McCollum er
- 4:04Speaker 2: on the other side, Jamel Dean. I believe that he's
- 4:07Speaker 2: going to be someone that they're going to call upon
- 4:09Speaker 2: early in this one, and you saw what he was
- 4:11Speaker 2: able to do against the Rams. You get him the
- 4:13Speaker 2: ball even on a short completion, and he can impose
- 4:16Speaker 2: his will on defenders, and that sort of invigorate reinvigorates,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I would say, and that kind of passion and toughness
- 4:24Speaker 2: radiates throughout the whole offense and throughout the whole sideline really,
- 4:27Speaker 2: so he can get them going with a big play early.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Andrew, what are you seeing in the run game with
- 4:32Speaker 1: Barkley as this say? The teams are just defending them
- 4:34Speaker 1: differently than they did a year ago? Is it something
- 4:37Speaker 1: with the offensive line up front? Is this the week
- 4:39Speaker 1: they get that going.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Well? I mean, the offensive line hasn't necessarily played to
- 4:45Speaker 2: their normal standard. I think that's fair to say, but
- 4:48Speaker 2: they're still playing at an acceptable level, above average level.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I would say. Kevin Patula spoke about, you know, trying
- 4:56Speaker 2: to do different things to create space for say cluon Barkley.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I think a big part of the that would be
- 5:01Speaker 2: maybe moving away from the heavy dose of twelve personnel
- 5:04Speaker 2: and using some eleven personnel to spread teams out and
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know, create more space but also have some more
- 5:11Speaker 2: optionality there. That's something that I think it is fair
- 5:15Speaker 2: to say. And then there was points in that Rams
- 5:17Speaker 2: game later where you have to wonder if maybe Sae
- 5:19Speaker 2: Quon was pressing a little bit, wasn't necessarily hitting the
- 5:22Speaker 2: hole with the same authority that he always does, trying
- 5:24Speaker 2: to look like he might have been trying to hit
- 5:27Speaker 2: a home run and make a big play there. So
- 5:29Speaker 2: I think it's just a they're gonna have to make
- 5:30Speaker 2: a concerted effort. It's not any one area that you
- 5:33Speaker 2: can pinpoint. It's just going to take a collective to
- 5:35Speaker 2: get this thing rolling.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Andrew, you know, when you look at the matchup here,
- 5:39Speaker 1: they're three to zero, Philadelphia's three to zero. Both teams
- 5:42Speaker 1: have kind of scratched and clawed their ways to wins here, right.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I mean, we talked earlier with someone from Tampa who
- 5:47Speaker 1: covers the Buccaneers and he said, look, they think they
- 5:50Speaker 1: match up well with Philadelphia. When you look at this
- 5:53Speaker 1: matchup for the Eagles, where's there something that concerned you
- 5:56Speaker 1: about this team? Because we know that Todd Bowles has
- 5:59Speaker 1: been very good against the But the flip side of
- 6:01Speaker 1: that is the Eagles generally haven't been at full strength here.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So what is something you're looking at in this game
- 6:07Speaker 1: with two three and ohero teams?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think it's the unscattered looks that
- 6:11Speaker 2: you have to account for. And Todd Bowles is going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to be super aggressive. He's going to throw different things
- 6:16Speaker 2: at you, and that's where pass protection becomes paramount. If
- 6:19Speaker 2: you want to get your offense off the ground, they
- 6:21Speaker 2: have to be better at blocking that up and that
- 6:24Speaker 2: includes Saquon Barkley and pass protection. So that's the one
- 6:28Speaker 2: area that I think you look at outside of the
- 6:31Speaker 2: humid conditions that sometimes can be the equalizer. The Eagles are,
- 6:35Speaker 2: of course going out there a day early, and we'll
- 6:37Speaker 2: see if that helps them at all. But I think
- 6:40Speaker 2: you factor in the conditions and the attack style defense
- 6:44Speaker 2: that Todd Bowles likes to deploy, and he's had the
- 6:46Speaker 2: Eagles number that's been a house of horrors for the team.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Those are the two elements I think that that could
- 6:52Speaker 2: be a factor.
- 6:53Speaker 1: All right, real quick, Dori Jackson, it just got the
- 6:56Speaker 1: injured list sent to me. Here. We are on location today,
- 6:59Speaker 1: out on location, so I just got the injury list
- 7:02Speaker 1: sent to me. A Dori Jackson limited.
- 7:05Speaker 2: He is doubtful. Doubtful. Yeah, he's doubtful for the game.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, doubtful for the game. Is this I guess no
- 7:11Speaker 1: Bennett either, is Kaylee Ringo the.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Guy, well, he would be the guy. He's next up.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Mac McWilliams is more of a nickel corner. He's cross
- 7:18Speaker 2: trained outside, but he's really a nickel corner by trade.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And Keeley Ringo he's next man up. I had a
- 7:24Speaker 2: chance to talk to him. I wrote a story about
- 7:26Speaker 2: kee Ringo on Inside the Birds dot Com. Really confident
- 7:30Speaker 2: his he it never really wavered. He was able to
- 7:33Speaker 2: see the game from a different perspective. A Dorri Jackson
- 7:35Speaker 2: today spoke about how he's noticed Keeley's attention to detail,
- 7:39Speaker 2: asking questions and he's a confident player. Now it's just
- 7:42Speaker 2: about going out there and executing because Baker Mayfield will
- 7:46Speaker 2: be aware of where Keelee Ringo is on the field
- 7:48Speaker 2: at all times. Should a Dory Jackson not be in
- 7:50Speaker 2: the lineup, but obviously if he's listed as doubtful, it
- 7:52Speaker 2: doesn't seem all that likely. It seemed like it could
- 7:55Speaker 2: be a day of type of thing with Jackson based
- 7:57Speaker 2: on what he said and testing out the and seeing
- 8:01Speaker 2: how his body responded from doing work the previous day.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But it seems like it's gonna be Tilley Ringo who's
- 8:07Speaker 2: in line to start.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Okay, and they did activate Perry Nickerson and e rix
- 8:12Speaker 1: Is on the practice squad, so obviously they were anticipating
- 8:15Speaker 1: this being a possibilities. He's Andrew to Czecho Football at
- 8:18Speaker 1: four from the Inside of the Birds podcast. It is
- 8:21Speaker 1: the Eagles and the Buccaneers, Week four again in Steamy Tampa.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Our Tampa correspondent tells us expect temperatures to hit one
- 8:29Speaker 1: oh five on the field on Sunday. You can listen
- 8:33Speaker 1: to the game right here on ninety seven three ESPN. Andrew,
- 8:36Speaker 1: Thanks buddy, Thanks man.
