- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett here on the Alex Garrett
- 0:07Speaker 1: One Leg Up Network. History is repeating itself yesterday and today.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Not only do we have the sixteenth President of the
- 0:15Speaker 1: United States, Abraham Lincoln, on for his two hundred and
- 0:18Speaker 1: sixteenth birthday thanks to Everyday Lincoln, but in the legal
- 0:24Speaker 1: realm here in Manhattan, it's like history is repeating itself.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Do you remember a few years ago that Mark Pomerantz
- 0:37Speaker 1: and Carrie Dunn resigned from Manhattan DA Bragg's office after
- 0:45Speaker 1: it looked like Alvin Bragg was not going to pursue
- 0:47Speaker 1: charges against Trump. Of course, that all change after Trump
- 0:52Speaker 1: got in the race, but that's another story. Well that's
- 0:55Speaker 1: about three years ago now, and sure enough, history is
- 0:58Speaker 1: repeating itself today because now that Trump's DOJ is taken
- 1:03Speaker 1: over and they're actually dropping charges against Mayor Adams. Well,
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Manhattan Southern District of New York's Attorney Danielsa soon
- 1:17Speaker 1: has stepped down, which I guess is natural progression. By
- 1:22Speaker 1: the way, it's a way to clean house. I remember
- 1:25Speaker 1: when pre Berraro was fire and I really understand it
- 1:28Speaker 1: until someone told me, well Trump got in office, he's
- 1:30Speaker 1: cleaning House. I'm like, oh, that makes sense. Well, this
- 1:33Speaker 1: is in a way as a firing of Daniels soon
- 1:37Speaker 1: even though she dropped out and stepped down. This was
- 1:42Speaker 1: driven by the Trump DOJ. But I'm bringing this point
- 1:46Speaker 1: up because and I'm no legal expert at all. Even
- 1:52Speaker 1: though I work with Arthur Idalla during the week and
- 1:56Speaker 1: I work with Imron and those guys at ABK Law,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'm not the legal expert myself. I just find it
- 2:05Speaker 1: interesting that three years apart, three attorneys have now said, well,
- 2:13Speaker 1: if you're gonna drop these charges, I'm out. And the
- 2:19Speaker 1: Trump dropping Adams's charges is very interesting considering it's an
- 2:23Speaker 1: election year for Mayor Adams and what he's got to
- 2:26Speaker 1: face in the primary coming up. Very much the way
- 2:35Speaker 1: they drop they resigned from the Manhattan Die's office because
- 2:38Speaker 1: I think they thought, well, if they dropped the case,
- 2:40Speaker 1: he's gonna want to run, sure if he announce his presidency,
- 2:44Speaker 1: you know, election for president again, campaign for president. But
- 2:50Speaker 1: I digress. Are these attorneys dropping out in protests because
- 3:01Speaker 1: they believe in the rule of law or are they
- 3:05Speaker 1: dropping out because of the politics of it. That's why
- 3:08Speaker 1: I always wonder, I mean, Mark Pemerens went on and
- 3:11Speaker 1: wrote a book about this, by the way, But I'm
- 3:17Speaker 1: wondering if these attorneys drop out because they're dropping out
- 3:21Speaker 1: for the rule of law or because these decisions are
- 3:30Speaker 1: often politically driven. If they're dropping out for the politics,
- 3:37Speaker 1: that makes a lot of sense. But if they're dropping
- 3:41Speaker 1: out because they want their form of law. Now, no
- 3:45Speaker 1: doubt Eric Adams abused a lot of laws, and his
- 3:50Speaker 1: pardon could have gone in a better time, right, But
- 3:55Speaker 1: if they're not staying on because they don't feel heard
- 4:00Speaker 1: or they don't feel like they're being able to do
- 4:02Speaker 1: their job, upholding the law is their number one job.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And if there was no there there, Alvin Bragg was
- 4:13Speaker 1: probably right to not want to pursue those charges back
- 4:16Speaker 1: in twenty oh two or twenty twenty two. But what
- 4:27Speaker 1: do you think do these prosecutors and do these lawyers
- 4:31Speaker 1: drop out because they feel it's too political or because
- 4:38Speaker 1: they're truly trying to uphold the law and their bosses
- 4:41Speaker 1: won't let them do it. Part of me thinks is political.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I mean, no one fired Daniels so soon, But maybe
- 4:52Speaker 1: she just couldn't work with the Trump DOJ. Maybe she
- 4:58Speaker 1: couldn't deal with all the work that went into these
- 5:00Speaker 1: indictments and then dropping them, well, then I'm out, much
- 5:06Speaker 1: like Special Counsel Jack Smith said, I'm mad after Trump
- 5:10Speaker 1: was elected, and we're seeing what the DJ is doing
- 5:14Speaker 1: to a lot of its workers and employees on every level.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It is a clean house kind of mode by Trump.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Some will call a revenge tour. But I just wonder
- 5:34Speaker 1: all these DJ and district attorneys we'll ever operate in
- 5:44Speaker 1: a way to uphold the law and not politically weaponize
- 5:51Speaker 1: the system against their opponent, whomever that might be. And
- 6:00Speaker 1: for goodness, Exsis James went after Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo party
- 6:08Speaker 1: infighting happened, And I guess all this is say is
- 6:16Speaker 1: if you want to truly have one leg up in
- 6:18Speaker 1: the legal field, you don't resign. You steer the course
- 6:23Speaker 1: in the offices that you're either appointed to or hired
- 6:31Speaker 1: into and see where it goes. We need attorneys and
- 6:43Speaker 1: prosecutors that are not legally and that they are not
- 6:45Speaker 1: politically motivated, but legally motivated to do what they were
- 6:49Speaker 1: hired to do. Just uphold the law, not uphold a
- 6:53Speaker 1: political opinion. And that's what I feel like we've seen
- 7:00Speaker 1: with numerous attorneys and prosecutors, I should say, across the country.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They want to uphold their opinion. They want to they
- 7:10Speaker 1: don't want to uphold the law, and that's a disgrace.
- 7:14Speaker 1: They passed the bar to uphold an opinion, not a law.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad the clearing clearing out is happening
- 7:26Speaker 1: because we need law abiding and law upholding attorneys and
- 7:31Speaker 1: prosecutors who stay the course, no matter how who's in office,
- 7:41Speaker 1: you are in these offices and in these positions, to
- 7:44Speaker 1: uphold a law, not uphold a political position. And I
- 7:50Speaker 1: think the more that gets weeded out of these political
- 7:54Speaker 1: of these lea you know, offices, the better off will
- 8:02Speaker 1: be and having one leg up on upholding the law.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And not only in New York City but across the country.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We don't need attorneys and prosecutors and legal legals that
- 8:20Speaker 1: uphold a viewpoint. We need them to uphold the law.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That's what they were hired to do. M
