- 1:26SPEAKER_08: You got your got the drum set.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: I don't have a timpany on it though.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: I don't think.
- 1:35SPEAKER_09: Well, just just pretend I'm Keith Mood and I just kicked over the drum kit.
- 1:42SPEAKER_09: There you go.
- 1:42SPEAKER_09: That's perfect.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: So.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Big announcement.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: You walk in with a smile on your face, and we we just briefly talked about what what what kind of day you had.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Um, and you can t talk about that a little bit more here, but why did you have the kind of day you had?
- 1:59SPEAKER_09: I had the kind of day I had because tomorrow is my official last day of work.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Hey.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Official last day, meaning you're retiring.
- 2:16SPEAKER_09: I'm retiring.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Retiring early retirement.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: From your current from the United States Postal Service.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, so wasn't sure if we thought it was public or not.
- 2:27SPEAKER_09: It is now.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: It is now.
- 2:28SPEAKER_09: All 13 people will hear about it.
- 2:31SPEAKER_09: So you you uh told me So Thursday will be my official first day of retirement.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: So but you told me about today.
- 2:39SPEAKER_09: So you were you Well today was kind of funny because uh everything I did, I was in in the back of my head after I do it, I'd be like, huh, last time I'm doing that.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: And they but they didn't like like were they onto it?
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Or did I mean like did you say it to them or did you say it in your head?
- 2:56SPEAKER_09: Oh, I said it in my head.
- 2:57SPEAKER_09: I didn't say anything to anybody.
- 2:59SPEAKER_09: I don't think I don't think there's only a handful handful of people that know.
- 3:02SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 3:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: So uh so they're not gonna do anything for you, they're not gonna throw a party or anything.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: No.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: That's too bad.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Well, well, that's I should have had like a cake or something down here.
- 3:13SPEAKER_09: I can't have cake.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's you can't be sugar-free.
- 3:17SPEAKER_09: Is there such a thing as a sugar-free cake?
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: I should have had a sugar-free cake.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Well, don't worry about it, it's all fine.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Save it for my birthday now.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say, your birthday's next week.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll fix it up then.
- 3:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_09: So yeah, so you know, everything I did today was like, oh, last time I'm doing that.
- 3:33SPEAKER_09: Hey.
- 3:33SPEAKER_09: So you know, hey, hey, can I have this?
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: In the back of my head, last time I'm doing that for you.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: I can't remember who I had this discussion with, but uh was it 25 years, 30 years that you were at the post office?
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Twenty-two.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Twenty-two.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: So it wasn't even twenty-five.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: No.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: But still, that's a long time.
- 3:49SPEAKER_09: So yeah, it's well, yeah, no, it's just uh just if you add my military time, it's twenty-six.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: Working for the government.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: So right.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: So so I'm in between twenty-five and thirty, technically.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: And do you have plans right after?
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Because you're gonna take some time off, obviously.
- 4:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm gonna take I'm gonna just live on unemployment for a while.
- 4:10unknown: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_09: Because I can.
- 4:11SPEAKER_09: Can you I mean I've been pay yeah, you can you can collect unemployment?
- 4:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: After you retire, yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_09: I didn't know that.
- 4:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I didn't.
- 4:18SPEAKER_09: It was in my paperwork.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: It was in my retirement paperwork.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: So you can get your um well, I'll get my bonus pen pension.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Or your pension.
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: That's so weird to say.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:29SPEAKER_09: Uh you know, it's it's not my full pension yet because I'm still it was an early retirement, so you're still under sixty five or whatever.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:36SPEAKER_09: So I don't get the full amount yet.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:38SPEAKER_09: I have to wait.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Stupid.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Stupid government.
- 4:41SPEAKER_09: But you can collect unemployment at the same time.
- 4:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: I had no idea.
- 4:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, plus I'm getting a cash incentive bonus too.
- 4:48SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 4:48SPEAKER_09: Half of it this year and then half of it next year, so that'll help out.
- 4:52SPEAKER_09: Who was I uh talking to?
- 4:53SPEAKER_09: Me.
- 4:54SPEAKER_09: I can't remember who's talking right now.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I can't rem I can't remember who it was, but I was like, oh, I wonder what Doug's gonna do with himself.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: And then I maybe it was my wife.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: And she said, Go to a lot of concerts.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I wish.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Why couldn't you?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, what's holding you back?
- 5:08SPEAKER_09: I don't I don't wanna uh I I I the income is gonna be an issue.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Sure, I understand that.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: But I mean if there was if there was one c or two concerts a summer and you're like I wanna go to that, I can go to that.
- 5:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I can't, yeah.
- 5:23SPEAKER_09: Uh my the time is freed up.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 5:26SPEAKER_09: Like when ATLC comes around this year, yeah, I'm like, I don't have to worry about getting somebody to cover for me because I'm covered.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_09: They've already filled my position, by the way.
- 5:36SPEAKER_09: Have they really?
- 5:37SPEAKER_09: Well, they filled it from within.
- 5:40SPEAKER_09: So basically they offered it to one person, they turned it down, then they offered it to another person.
- 5:45SPEAKER_09: They took it.
- 5:46SPEAKER_09: So now my position is officially filled, so now they're gonna have to fill that pos that other position.
- 5:52SPEAKER_09: So this person's gonna have to fill both positions until they fill the other position.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Sorry, p sorry guy.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: I mean sorry, sorry, piece of crap.
- 6:02SPEAKER_09: Did you call me a piece of crap?
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, that he's gonna he's gonna f fill the city.
- 6:07SPEAKER_09: Well, it's it's only a few hours a day.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 6:10SPEAKER_09: So it's it's actually this is this is a big huge step up for for this guy.
- 6:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, for this person.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, good.
- 6:16SPEAKER_09: So yeah, they're they're gonna get more Bennies, they're gonna get more pay, they're gonna get more hours.
- 6:20SPEAKER_09: So it actually it actually works out well for them.
- 6:22SPEAKER_09: Good.
- 6:22SPEAKER_09: So I'm glad I'm glad they took it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: So uh you're taking time off.
- 6:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm gonna take the summer off.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: Oh, cool.
- 6:29SPEAKER_09: Well, you know, as much as I can.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And do you have plans after that?
- 6:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm gonna subject.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: Substitute teach.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we had talked about this as well.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: This is that is perfect for you.
- 6:41SPEAKER_09: I yeah, I'm really looking forward to I'm I'm I'm nervous about it, but I'm also looking forward to it.
- 6:45SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 6:45SPEAKER_09: Because I haven't because I was teaching before I got into the post office.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_09: And so I know it's changed in the last 22 years.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: A lot.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_09: I'm sure it's changed a lot.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: So I was uh in I think you were in on this conversation, but I said Do you remember how when I was on the radio and you would just come into the studio after you were done work and you just became a part of the show?
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: I think it would be fantastic if you just came into my music class, my kindergarten, first grade, showed up every day.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And it would be O'Brien and Doug teaching music.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: That's all parents want.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Wouldn't that be awesome?
- 7:26SPEAKER_09: Everybody like, uh, our kids are really into Metallica now.
- 7:31SPEAKER_09: We don't understand it.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: It would be so cool.
- 7:35SPEAKER_09: My kid came up to me yesterday and said, Grieping death!
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Do you have a preferred um age group?
- 7:45SPEAKER_09: Well, I don't know if I could do like little little kids.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: I bet you'd be surprised.
- 7:50SPEAKER_09: Well, I probably could.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_09: But uh I I I could do like fourth, fifth grade up.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_09: I have no problem with that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_09: So cool.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: I'll keep that in mind.
- 8:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_09: So I mean, you know.
- 8:07SPEAKER_09: Like I said, I I I've only got like an application so far.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: One application.
- 8:12SPEAKER_09: Because they gotta get I gotta get refig fingerprinted.
- 8:14SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_09: So I don't know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_09: I don't even know where they do that anymore.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: At the library.
- 8:19SPEAKER_09: Oh, they do the library?
- 8:20SPEAKER_09: Oh, well that's okay.
- 8:21SPEAKER_09: Check that off my library.
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: Library.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: Um but you're gonna you're gonna do more than one district, right?
- 8:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm gonna do a bunch of different towns.
- 8:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_09: Like within a, you know, like a within a reasonable travel district.
- 8:34SPEAKER_09: You know, I don't want to go, you know, Fort Kent.
- 8:37SPEAKER_09: Oh sure.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 8:39SPEAKER_09: Because I'd be like, oh my Lord.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: Why do you people live so far away?
- 8:42SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 8:43SPEAKER_09: You know, but you know, that's but I you know, I just want to be around the area.
- 8:46SPEAKER_09: I mean, I already know a lot of the teachers in this area because I'm in the band with them.
- 8:50SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 8:50SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 8:52SPEAKER_10: So it'll be actually pretty nice and be like, hey, what's going on?
- 8:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_09: So I'm looking, I'm looking forward to it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_09: I hope I hope I can I hope I can.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Now let me ask you, I'm just gonna uh propose something to you and see what your reaction is.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Because uh I mean I guess if you don't have to work, why would you?
- 9:14SPEAKER_09: Um Well I'm gonna have to work for a while.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: I know, but what I like start a new career.
- 9:20SPEAKER_09: Oh, start a new career?
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Here's here's here's here's why I here's why I gotta go.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: What if a teaching position opened as a history teacher at like high school?
- 9:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but I it didn't.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna know what you're saying.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I I I don't want to go back to school.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: I I mean I don't mind But you wouldn't though, because you you have a history degree, right?
- 9:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:49SPEAKER_09: Uh but I gotta but I don't have a teaching certificate.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess you would have to take some classes just to be able to do it.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: And I and I hate classes.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I thought you loved classes.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: You take them on on a whim.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, that's just because I don't have to do homework.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: That's because you want to, right?
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_09: That's that's one stuff I want to do.
- 10:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 10:06SPEAKER_09: Like you tell me about the horror show of classes, you have to take it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_09: I'm like, oh my god.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: I will tell you what though.
- 10:12SPEAKER_09: I'll just put myself just stick myself in front of a bus.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Speaking of that, so I have uh one uh assignment left in both classes.
- 10:23SPEAKER_09: Wow, that would have a good.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it did.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: So I have so I have a um like in in my methods class, I just have to take a a quiz and then I have to uh put everything that I've done throughout the semester, put it in it like a Google Drive, like a like a portfolio.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: So I don't have to do anything extra, I just have to organize it.
- 10:45SPEAKER_09: So that's that's yeah, see, organization is not my thing at all.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: And then for the other one, get this.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: So the other one, I have two weeks left in that course, but uh throughout that course I have written four papers.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: Uh their autobiographies.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Like it's like what kind of what makes you tick, like self-bottle.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, your core your core beliefs, right, and you know, uh how you feel you fit into the community and stuff like that.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: And so I wrote four papers, and the final is eighty percent done, because you take those four papers and you combine them and you make them into one.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: You write an introduction and you write a a a uh an ending and transition between, but you kind of just make it one paper.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: That's the final.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: So that's all I have left to do.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: And and that's not due for two weeks.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I'll get it done this weekend, but still, you know.
- 11:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so you you're more conscious that way.
- 11:43SPEAKER_09: I'm just I'm just not a I'm not a homework person.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: Well, no, no, I'm not sure.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: I have to be a well, I understand that.
- 11:49SPEAKER_09: I'm just I'm not that person.
- 11:50SPEAKER_09: I mean, yeah.
- 11:51SPEAKER_09: I I I squeaked through college.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_09: I really did.
- 11:54SPEAKER_09: I did the bare minimum.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_09: You know, because I just I I mean, I like to learn.
- 11:59SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 11:59SPEAKER_09: But I don't like I don't like You like to learn on your terms.
- 12:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_09: I mean I like I like more hands-on stuff.
- 12:05SPEAKER_09: I like to, you know, listen to a lecture about something interesting.
- 12:09SPEAKER_09: You want me to write a paper on something?
- 12:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_09: Middle finger.
- 12:14SPEAKER_09: I'll take a test.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:16SPEAKER_09: No problem.
- 12:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_09: I can do tests.
- 12:17SPEAKER_09: That's not I I test well.
- 12:19SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 12:19SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 12:20SPEAKER_09: But writing papers, I just I just I'm like I'm getting like I'm getting like sick to my stomach thinking about writing a paper.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you what, as soon as I'm as soon as I get certified, like officially certified, because I'm I'm what do you call it?
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Conditionally certified right now.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Uh as soon as I get my full certification, which should happen by Christmas.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Christmas! Actually, no, I should be certifiable by Christmas.
- 12:42SPEAKER_09: Well you're already certified.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: But uh hopefully the beginning of next year I'll be certified, completely certified.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Um once that's done, I don't want to take any more courses.
- 12:52SPEAKER_09: I don't blame you, man, because courses suck.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just I just I don't want to take any more.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: I like learning, like you said.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love to learn.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: But I like learning on my own terms.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I get that too.
- 13:02SPEAKER_09: I mean, if you want to just talk to me about what I learned, hey, that's a cool test.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:06SPEAKER_09: But I don't want to write a paper for you.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, so so congratulations.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: Um, do we want to sing a song about it?
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: I don't is there a song in that?
- 13:25SPEAKER_09: Is that oh, is this the song?
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: This is what you're making it up.
- 13:28SPEAKER_09: Okay, okay.
- 13:29SPEAKER_10: I thought you were like Work is done forever.
- 13:43SPEAKER_10: Now I'm gonna go and sit on my butt.
- 13:49SPEAKER_10: And not go to work ever again, but not at the place I was before.
- 13:58SPEAKER_10: Maybe go work at some other place.
- 14:03SPEAKER_10: Where there are other people there.
- 14:09SPEAKER_10: People that I didn't work with before.
- 14:20SPEAKER_07: Goodbye, goodbye.
- 14:23SPEAKER_07: Sayanora.
- 14:26SPEAKER_07: So long Dita Zen.
- 14:30SPEAKER_07: Ching chang day.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Cultural appropriation.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: I learned that in college.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: What?
- 14:39SPEAKER_09: This college is stupid.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Alright, well, that's awesome.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: That is so cool.
- 14:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's that's uh it's pretty weird, but it's uh it's it's like uh there's a new adventure starting.
- 14:50SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 14:50SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: No, I get it.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe I'll see more of you.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: You think?
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: I'll be like showing up.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Hey, what's up?
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: You just show up at the house, man.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Uh well, call before.
- 15:05SPEAKER_09: What do you get up in the morning and I'm sitting out in the driveway?
- 15:11SPEAKER_09: Doug's here again.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: What are you doing, man?
- 15:14SPEAKER_09: Well, I was bored.
- 15:16SPEAKER_09: I was bored.
- 15:17SPEAKER_09: What are you doing?
- 15:18SPEAKER_09: Getting ready to go to work.
- 15:19SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 15:20SPEAKER_08: Can I come?
- 15:20SPEAKER_09: I come work with you.
- 15:24SPEAKER_09: I'll just tag along.
- 15:27SPEAKER_09: Um exactly.
- 15:30SPEAKER_09: That's what you show up.
- 15:31SPEAKER_09: We just show up, I'll just be you'd be like, ah yeah, Doug's with me and again, and everybody'd be just like, Yeah, whatever.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: And the the thing is, so you used to come to the radio station, you used to just tag along, and then you became part of the show.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: And then when I we left the radio station, I left the radio station, but you were never there, technically.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Never was.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: It's like you're fired.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: I was like, I never worked there, but you were part of the show.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: We start a podcast, it's you and I.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: So if you came and hung out with me at school as I taught 10 years down the road in like education circles, it's O'Brien and Doug teach a workshop on this.
- 16:12SPEAKER_09: Doug, how'd you become a teacher?
- 16:13SPEAKER_09: Well, I just followed Brian Worker one day.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Classroom management with O'Brien and Doug.
- 16:18SPEAKER_09: Just what'd you how'd you get?
- 16:20SPEAKER_09: It would be everybody would just eventually, it would be like at the radio station, they just like accept that I'm there.
- 16:26SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 16:27SPEAKER_09: So I you know, they're they're like, should we be paying him?
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: And they did, they did too.
- 16:31SPEAKER_09: They just, hey Doug.
- 16:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they were all like, hey Doug, Doug's here.
- 16:35SPEAKER_09: Your boss never questioned it once.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Nope, not once.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: She actually tried to find ways to involve you in things.
- 16:42SPEAKER_09: I know, that was weird.
- 16:43SPEAKER_09: I was like, uh, okay.
- 16:45SPEAKER_09: I remember she used to give me gift cards.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: That was like payments.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: So uh let's see.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Oh shoot.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: I don't let me see if I can restore these.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't remember.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: All these uh um hold on.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Let me get this.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know what's happening.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: Well, I wanted to show you uh this was me.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: I wanted to show you something that uh cousin Larry sent me.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, which I think is hilarious.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: And I wanted to see if I'm gonna be a little bit more.
- 17:23SPEAKER_09: Well, because Cousin Larry is hilarious.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Well um he sent me this uh music teacher with these kids and these uh little instruments.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: And he thought it was really cool, and I said it was really cool, and I'll I'll tell you what I said, but I wanted to see if you could pick out what my critique of of this video was.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: So just let's see if I can open the whole thing up.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I can do that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, I can.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: This is a music teacher.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Alright, let's see.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: So he he sent it to me because he thought it would be a really cool idea to do with my kids, right?
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: And I said, I love this.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: Except the teacher has them clapping on one and three.
- 18:40SPEAKER_09: You can tell she's not a drummer.
- 18:44SPEAKER_09: Everybody on one and three, but it is I like the idea.
- 18:48SPEAKER_09: I love they're all they're all singing it, right?
- 18:50SPEAKER_09: That's cool.
- 18:52SPEAKER_09: Oh like elementary kids.
- 18:54SPEAKER_09: What are they what are they banging?
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: They look like they're pots and pans, that kind of thing.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, she's literally one and three in it.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: Let's see if it picks up again here.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: I never watched the whole thing.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Now they're holding their pots and pans in the air.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: She puts them on two and four now.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: No, just still one and three.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: One and three.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I thought I'd share that with you, but that's just that's just she's a music teacher.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: She's got him going to the wheel.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: You would think she would know her.
- 19:46SPEAKER_09: She you think she would know one and three.
- 19:48SPEAKER_09: You never clap on one in three.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: Anyway, uh, I thought that was kind of funny.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: That was funny.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: He's like, he said, uh, well, he cousin Larry, you know, is far too complimentary to me sometimes.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: He says, uh, laugh my butt off.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: She has a great idea, poor implementation, you would do so much better.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: I was like, you don't know that, Larry.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: You don't know.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: At least I'd have him on two and four.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's all I'm asking.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: I mean the rest of it's fine.
- 20:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 20:15SPEAKER_09: Two and four, man.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Two and four.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: So I want to move on to a couple things because we have some things to talk about.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Um you know how much I love Sammy Hagar.
- 20:27SPEAKER_09: No, I did not.
- 20:28SPEAKER_09: This is news to me.
- 20:29SPEAKER_09: Please tell me more.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: And when I say I love Sammy Hagar, yes, I love I love the music that he made with Van Halen.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: I like a lot of his own music, you know, his solo work, and and just his um it's his work ethic and it's his lifestyle that I love.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: The guy's 77 years old.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he's still freaking.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: He's still rocking.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Um admittedly, uh he's not the greatest lyricist.
- 20:56SPEAKER_08: No, it's pretty simple.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: He's got some great songs.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: No question.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: He's got some great lyrics and great songs.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: But but a lot of it is not great.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's okay.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: But it's it's done with with uh great attitude and just the delivery.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: And he's a marketing genius.
- 21:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_09: How many companies has he started and sold and just like living like a billionaire?
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: And he knows how to stay in the press.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: But I have to tell you, I'm a little fed up with Sammy Hagar.
- 21:27SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 21:28SPEAKER_09: All that to say, we're tired of you.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Well, it's it it's it's the way he does things sometimes.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And it's not necessarily I disagree with what he's saying, but why are why are you saying it?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: You know, and and you go on these um um I'm in a couple of groups, Van Halen group on Facebook, and there's this uh Van Halen with Sammy Hagar group on Facebook.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: You know, things like that.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: And they and they talk about and then I'm in in the Van Halen group, they are they're always dogging on Hagar.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: You know, because oh you he can't do it without the band.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: And blah, blah, blah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: There he is, crying again, blah, blah, blah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: You know, and I'm just like, you guys don't know.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, Van Halen was a much better band when Sammy Hagard, in my opinion.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Just my opinion.
- 22:10SPEAKER_09: Well, how many number one hits did they have with Roth?
- 22:13SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 22:14SPEAKER_09: And how many number ones did they have with Hagar?
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: With Roth, zero.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: Was it Jump a number one?
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Jump was not number one, number three.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Number three.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: So, but he went on this.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: He he's doing press for his Vegas residency.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And so he released a song.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: Have you heard the song yet?
- 22:35SPEAKER_09: Is it the Eddie Van Halen S?
- 22:37SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 22:37SPEAKER_09: Have you heard it?
- 22:38SPEAKER_09: I haven't heard it yet.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, I have it.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: You have or haven't?
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: I have, and I have it.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Um.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: And but he's he's promoting this song as Eddie Came to Him in a Dream.
- 22:53SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 22:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I read that somewhere and I'm like, here we go.
- 22:56SPEAKER_09: Here's the alien thing again.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Well, if Eddie came to you in a dream to write this song, there's a reason Eddie never wrote lyrics.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Because the lyrics are the music is great.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: The lyrics are j just not great.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm sure.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: So we'll hear a little bit of it in a second.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: But also, he's promoting this residency and he puts out this song, no doubt, to promote this residency and to bring all the Van Halen fans back to this residency.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: He's a genius.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, he knows what he's doing.
- 23:28SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 23:29SPEAKER_09: Uh he's not a stupid man.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: But he he goes on this uh he does a Rolling Stone interview.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Now, granted, I have not read the whole Rolling Stone interview.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm sure this is probably taken out of context.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: But Ultimate Classic Rock has some quotes from the interview, and it says, The Red Rocker seemed resigned to the fact that he and the drummer, Alex Van Halen, will remain estranged.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: And this is this is what they pulled from it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Al, you're fine.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: Just leave me alone.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: I'll leave you alone.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Everything's good, Hagar remarked.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: I'm making you money, by the way, Al.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: I'm out there selling Van Halen records and keeping the name alive, keeping the music alive.
- 24:15SPEAKER_09: Not wrong.
- 24:17SPEAKER_09: I mean that's pretty correct.
- 24:19SPEAKER_09: Why are you gonna say that?
- 24:21SPEAKER_09: Because he's Sammy Hagar.
- 24:22SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 24:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: You know, and and and not that I think Al is is the better person uh in this situation because Al has basically kind of just wiped Sammy Hagar from his life.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: You know, he's he's he's not reached out.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Um he says, and this is he goes on.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: I think Al's angry because I'm doing it.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Mike Anthony and I are out doing it, and he can't.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: He's not a singer, he's not a guitar player, he's not really a band leader, and he seems like he doesn't want to play drums or can't play drums anymore, and he can't go write a new record.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Alex wasn't the songwriter in the band, he was the drummer.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Eddie and I wrote the songs.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: David Lee Roth and Eddie wrote the songs, and so we can go out and do them, and I think that really bothers him that Mike and I are still out there doing it.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: I would feel bad.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: If I put myself in his shoes, I would feel terrible if I couldn't do it anymore.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: And then he says uh he describes himself as the happiest guy out of all of them.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: That pisses people off in itself.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Being too happy, people don't like that.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: There's such a thing as humility, too.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think you may be right.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Well, he technically is.
- 25:39SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't have put it like that.
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: No, me either.
- 25:41SPEAKER_09: And why do you have to say it?
- 25:43SPEAKER_09: Why can't you just say Well, because now we're talking about it.
- 25:47SPEAKER_09: That's why.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: That's exactly.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: He's a genius.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: He's but it rubbed me the wrong way, and I love Sammy Hagar.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: Oh, I know you do.
- 25:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Don't get me wrong.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Um it rubbed me.
- 25:56SPEAKER_09: But yeah, this is his guy, but he this is this is this is strategic.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is Absolutely calculated.
- 26:03SPEAKER_09: Or if you're George W.
- 26:04SPEAKER_09: more staterie.
- 26:05SPEAKER_09: Which he never said, by the way.
- 26:06SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 26:07SPEAKER_09: But it's still funny.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: It is funny.
- 26:08SPEAKER_09: Um, but um, yeah, I mean, this is just this is you know, there's no, you know, the old saying there's no such thing as bad press.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's calculated for sure.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: No question.
- 26:19SPEAKER_09: I mean, does he mean this?
- 26:21SPEAKER_09: Partially.
- 26:22SPEAKER_09: Probably.
- 26:23SPEAKER_09: But I mean, I think he I think he has more respect for Alex than he's letting on.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: And again, I have not read the whole interview.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_09: So Yeah, we're just going off on excerpts and stuff like that.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: You know, and and Sammy's an honest guy, and he's he's gonna say it.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Um I would think that in a situation like that, maybe you'd have a little humility and say, I don't know what Alex is thinking.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Uh missy brother.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: Uh but and leave it at that.
- 26:52SPEAKER_09: But that's never been his way.
- 26:53SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 26:54SPEAKER_09: And that's never going to be his way.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: So, you know.
- 26:57SPEAKER_09: I mean, am I surprised?
- 26:59SPEAKER_09: Not really.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: No.
- 27:01SPEAKER_09: I mean, could he have worded it different?
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_09: But Sammy's gonna it's just Sammy Hagar doing Sammy Hagar things.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Boom.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: And he can.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: The dude's 77 and he still holds up, man.
- 27:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:15SPEAKER_09: So I mean, he's still he's literally doing it.
- 27:18SPEAKER_09: I mean, how many bands has he had since Van Allen?
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: He just he just uh played stagecoach.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: The stagecoach festival.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:25SPEAKER_09: So I mean he could just like just he can do I mean he literally could go anywhere and go, hey, can I you guys want to start a band?
- 27:31SPEAKER_10: Let's play Stammy HR, you know.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: On that note, well, let me come back to that actually.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Uh because there's an article on here that I haven't read that I want to write read with you.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: But first I want to hear that song.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Uh the title is just stupid.
- 27:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's very stupid.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: Encore, thank you, good night.
- 27:46SPEAKER_09: Good night.
- 27:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: It's like I said, the music is great.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: I attribute that to Joe Satriani.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, all of the lyrics aren't bad, but it's just cheesy.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: It's just kind of a lot of people.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna play it, I'm gonna play a little bit here, and you tell me.
- 31:06SPEAKER_09: It's you know, but I just, you know, I just I like it.
- 31:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I do too.
- 31:12SPEAKER_09: I but I mean, his his lyrics are very simplistic and to the point.
- 31:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:16SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's not like, you know, there's no flowerly poetic things, it's just like standing in the corner.
- 31:24SPEAKER_09: There's Eddie Van Halen.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: You know, it's you know.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the music.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the music.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the song.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the music.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: What took so long?
- 31:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:34SPEAKER_09: So I mean, yeah, it's just that's just that's the typical Stanley Hagar lyrical stuff.
- 31:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but I I do like the breakdown with Eddie.
- 31:41SPEAKER_08: Oh Eddie.
- 31:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_09: I mean, I think this is more of like a tribute, just really just a tribute to Eddie.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which they never did.
- 31:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean, like, like there was no tribute concert for when Eddie died, which is a shame.
- 31:54SPEAKER_09: Oh, there should have been, and that thing would have been.
- 31:56SPEAKER_09: That thing would have been huge.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so uh, I mean that's that's the song, and you know, it's the song's pretty good.
- 32:03SPEAKER_09: It's okay.
- 32:04SPEAKER_09: It's okay.
- 32:04SPEAKER_09: You know, you know what, I was thinking of doubt, you know, that beginning and all that, you know, the finger the hammering.
- 32:10SPEAKER_09: Um I'm like, you know, now when we hear that, we're all like, yeah, yeah, that's good.
- 32:17SPEAKER_09: 1977, when that when that was it he first came out.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: When he first came out with it, people's minds were like, Well, I mean, you I've read read interviews with guitar players that you know were were pretty good at that, you know, sage in the 70s, and then they would say, Come over, I want you to hear something.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: And they'd put uh eruption on.
- 32:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_09: And be like, what is what is he doing?
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 32:41SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 32:42SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 32:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_09: And now it's just like, man.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Everybody does it.
- 32:45SPEAKER_09: Everybody does it.
- 32:45SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 32:46SPEAKER_09: So I just I just it just still it's it's still kind of like wow.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Speaking of the Red Rocker, um, I haven't read this article yet, but I thought you'd be interested.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: Sammy Hagar and Kirk Hammett are planning to collaborate.
- 32:59SPEAKER_09: That ought to be interesting.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, I want to I want to read what it's about here.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: So Sammy Hagar and Kirk Hammett, by the way, this is ultimateclassicrock.com, because I'm probably gonna read a verbatim.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: Uh they're discussing the idea of a collaboration and even have a title for their idea that's taking shape.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: It's no surprise that the perspective song is supernatural in tone based around the Red Rockers' love for aliens.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: Um you know who's a big fan of all that?
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Kirk Kirk Hammett from Metallica.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Writing a song right now called The Seven Sisters.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Well, we're not writing it yet, but we're talking about writing it.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: The Seven Sisters, which is the Pleiades where a lot of these people are coming from.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Um Let's see.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: For the ride out of the song, we're going to go into part of Silver Lights from Hagar's 76th solo album, Nine on a Ten Scale.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, the first time the Red Rocker has written about aliens and their link to the world, famously, he penned Love Walks In, which a lot of people have used as their wedding song.
- 33:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: But it's actually about being abducted.
- 33:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's about as long as you go.
- 33:59SPEAKER_09: I don't think people realize that.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: So I just thought that was interesting.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Uh that what we may see.
- 34:06SPEAKER_09: And I think that's well, Kirk Hammond's more into the horror restaurant.
- 34:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: If you see his guitars and his stuff like that, he's got a lot of horror-themed guitars, and I think that's Dracula, that's that's what we're gonna see from Hagar now is little one-offs.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: You know, like like a song here and there.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, why not?
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's 77 years old.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: Why and he still can still do it.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Why put out a full album?
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: Nobody nobody looks like.
- 34:28SPEAKER_09: Nobody buys albums, right?
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: They're just gonna buy songs, right?
- 34:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: So it's per it's genius.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Again, he's a genius.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: A genius.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: He's just gonna collaborate with people, put out a song here, put out a song there.
- 34:38SPEAKER_09: I never I I never they I I could kind of see with Kurt Hammett, because they're both kind of surfer, yeah, you know, California kind of guys, you know.
- 34:47SPEAKER_09: So I I could tell you I because putting Hagar and like James Hetfield together, I don't see that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't see that as well.
- 34:53SPEAKER_09: I mean, they could, sure.
- 34:55SPEAKER_09: You know, but I I I see more Kurt than James.
- 35:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:00SPEAKER_09: Lars definitely not.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: I would just be like, yeah.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Um and speaking of Kirk Hammett, did you see that this Metallica touts 1800 minutes of load in a massive reissue?
- 35:18SPEAKER_09: Of the load album?
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Of the load album.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: 1800 minutes.
- 35:23SPEAKER_09: Why would you want 1800 minutes of that freaking piece of garbage?
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Wait, now is does load have fuel on it?
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Or is that reload?
- 35:31unknown: I can't remember.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: I can't remember either.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Let me read this.
- 35:35SPEAKER_09: Actually, actually, load was way better than reload.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Whatever's whatever album that fuel is.
- 35:40SPEAKER_09: I think fuel, I think, I think it's the I think it's the opening track of of Load?
- 35:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_09: Let's ask, let's ask Google.
- 35:46SPEAKER_09: Hey Google.
- 35:48SPEAKER_09: Wake your sorry butt up.
- 35:50SPEAKER_09: Hey Google, hey Google, hey Google, hey Google.
- 35:53SPEAKER_09: Oh, there you are.
- 35:54SPEAKER_09: Wait, here you go.
- 35:55SPEAKER_09: There you are.
- 35:56SPEAKER_09: Hey Google.
- 35:58SPEAKER_09: Hey Google.
- 36:00SPEAKER_09: Hey Google.
- 36:03SPEAKER_09: What's the opening track of Metallica's load album?
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: Just a second.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: The opening track of Metallica's load album is Ain't My Bitch.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Blancher kids.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Blancher children.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: And they are listening, by the way.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: I went to pick up Myra at the at the house the other day, and um one of the little girls comes up to me and you and says, Um, you should do something about the cocaine hippos.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh no, no.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's more historical.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, no, no, she she actually uh Hillary, their mom, agreed.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: She said it's like a history lesson.
- 36:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:48SPEAKER_09: It literally is, man.
- 36:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:49SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 36:50SPEAKER_09: So reload.
- 36:51SPEAKER_09: Reload has fewer.
- 36:52SPEAKER_09: It must be Yeah.
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: Hey Google.
- 36:55SPEAKER_09: What's the uh opening track of Metallica's reload album?
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: Just a second.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Sure, I can help with that.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: I know you can.
- 37:06SPEAKER_09: I don't want to use a media provider.
- 37:08SPEAKER_09: I just want to just tell me the tracking.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: This is scary.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: It's just saying everything's typing it in.
- 37:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_09: Oh, it is fuel.
- 37:26unknown: Okay.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: Asterisk asterisk fuel.
- 37:29SPEAKER_09: Thank you, Google.
- 37:30SPEAKER_09: You're awesome.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Uh okay, so this Metallica has announced a massive re-release of their chart-topping 96 album load, featuring previously unreleased demos, rough mixes, videos, live recordings.
- 37:42SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's why it's 18.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: And more.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: 180 gram two LP C D cassette and digital.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, but for hardcore Metallica fans, the real enticement from this drop is the Load Remastered Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set.
- 37:55SPEAKER_09: Uh Well, technically, Load and Reload should just be a double album.
- 38:00SPEAKER_09: Wasn't it meant to be?
- 38:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think it was supposed to be, but they just split it up because they're Metallica.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: So let's see.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: It features, like I said, unreleased demos, rough mixes, live performances, on air and television performances, and more.

- 39:21SPEAKER_02: One million dollars.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: It's available to pre-order now for a hefty two hundred and seventy-five dollars.
- 39:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, thanks.
- 39:27SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 39:28SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 39:30SPEAKER_09: I mean, I would love to have it.
- 39:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:33SPEAKER_09: Not gonna spend$278 on it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_09: Sorry.
- 39:36SPEAKER_09: No.
- 39:37unknown: Wow.
- 39:38SPEAKER_09: That is so much stuff, man.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Holy cow.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: That would be worth it.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: I suppose it's worth it.
- 39:45SPEAKER_10: It would totally be worth.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: I would love to have it, but$275.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: No.
- 39:49SPEAKER_09: Exactly, man.
- 39:50SPEAKER_09: I mean, geez crow.
- 39:52SPEAKER_09: I mean, but that's why Metallic is worth a billion dollars.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:56SPEAKER_09: I mean, they keep doing stuff like this.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:58SPEAKER_09: And people buy it.
- 39:59SPEAKER_09: And people are gonna buy it.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 40:00SPEAKER_09: They're gonna buy the crap out of that.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Speaking of buying, not to change the subject, but uh I sold three guitars.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: What the I sold I sold three of them.
- 40:11SPEAKER_09: Oh that but that was your plan, because you're gonna buy two more.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: No.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: Actually.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: So I posted it.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: So so my wife was like, so I posted them on Facebook on Marketplace.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: And with pictures and everything, and and and uh she sees it.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: I didn't ever never told her I was doing it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: Although she listened to one of her podcasts where I said, I think I'm gonna sell, you know, and then we were talking about how I'm gonna get another one, you know.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: And and so she's like, she messages me and said, Why are you selling guitars?
- 40:39SPEAKER_02: And I said, I don't know, midlife crisis.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: And she's like, You're not gonna buy another one, are you?
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: She's on you.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: And I said, No.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: I said, No, I'm done.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: And I at the time, and I still kind of feel like like I'm done.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: You know, I have all the pedals I need to make the sounds I want, I think.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: Um I have three I'm sorry, four electric guitars right now.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: I have two strats, I have a telly, and I have my wolf gang.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Um I just ha you know, I don't know.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: I do I need I don't.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: The funny thing is, I sold two of them to Kevin Maney for his modern band program.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, that makes sense, yeah.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: And I just came from a meeting where I gave him the guitars.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: And uh so he takes him and he's walking down the hall in front of me, and he says, So, you're gonna get a Paul Reed Smith?
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Which is a great style of guitar.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Uh and the funny thing is, is that our modern band uh state thing, uh I I went down and I played a Paul Reed I've I've played a Paul Reed Smith but never threw an amp.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: And so he said, I want to show you this one.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: I got this one for like 600 bucks.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: So I played it.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: I was like, wow, that sounds really good.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: It feels really good.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: I gave it back to him, and then there was another one on the stage on a guitar uh stand.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: I picked it up and I plugged it in.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: I was like, whoa! This sounds amazing and it feels really good, and it's a hollow body.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: And anyway, so we're walking down the hall tonight, and he goes, So, but you know, there's all kinds of PRSs on the marketplace.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: I'm like, Really?
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: Because I have not seen any.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'll send you links.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: And then I said I made the mistake I said he's got like two guitars in his hand.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: I go, you know, that really, um that hollow body Paul Reed Smith that I played that was on the stage at Modern Band, that was really cool.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: And he pauses for a second, he looks at me and he goes, Alright, what do you give me for it?
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: And I said, no.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: That's totally an enabler.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: I said, no, no, no, no.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: My wife would kill me.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: And he goes, he goes, Well, you're trading it.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: You're not buying it, you're trading it.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: And he goes, you know, you you're you're I'm giving you money for these guitars, and you just trade them.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Trade it for another guitar.
- 43:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, marijuana's not a trade great way drug now.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: I thought it was so funny.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: But he just looks at me and goes, Alright, what do you give me for?
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Nope, nope, I'm good.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: I can't do it! I cannot do it.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: You cannot tell my wife! You cannot tell my wife.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: Uh so no, I don't think I do I really, honestly, I'm not gonna say never.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: But I don't think there's a guitar, another guitar in my future.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: At least immediate future.
- 43:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, I mean I could get that.
- 43:36SPEAKER_09: I mean, I understand that.
- 43:37SPEAKER_09: I mean, I'm I'm pretty happy with my drum kits.
- 43:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 43:40SPEAKER_09: You know, I got my Pearl, I got my Tama, and I got my Ludwig.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_09: And you know But maybe maybe five years down the road, there's a drum kit that I just absolutely have to have.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 43:51SPEAKER_09: Don't know.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_09: I'm I'm no fortune teller.
- 43:54SPEAKER_09: I'm no what was that?
- 43:55SPEAKER_09: What was that chick back in the 90s people were calling?
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, uh what was her name?
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: I'm a Fender guy.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: I got three of them.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: And I've got a Wolfgang.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Which a Wolfgang is basically for collectors, because you know, because I love Van Halen.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: I think I think I'm good for a while.
- 44:30SPEAKER_06: Well there you go.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Um so we are talking rock and roll.

- 44:57SPEAKER_02: Soundgarden.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: White Stripes.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 45:05SPEAKER_02: I think the the biggest contribution is Seven Asian Army.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Basically.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Honestly.
- 45:09SPEAKER_06: That's the only song anybody knows.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: Uh Cindy Lopper.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: And Outcast.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Uh longtime Slight Warren Zevon, who passed away in twenty uh two thousand three, was nominated just once, and in twenty twenty-three, he's gonna receive the two musical influence awards.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, good.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: Uh one of the two, and then Salt and Peppa are gonna receive the other one.
- 45:36SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: Musical Excellence Awards will be presented to Carol Kay.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Bassister Phil the Wrecking Crew.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Wrecking Crew, yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: And the late pianist Nikki Hopkins, who both worked with numerous rock hall inductees themselves, and two celebrated Philadelphia Soul songwriter and producer Tom Bell.
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: Um let's see.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: We're we're only worried really about the uh the performers at this point.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: I mean it's it's great that the other ones are going in.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: Um so Fish had the most fan votes.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Of course they did.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Billy Idol was third, uh, but neither of them made the final list.
- 46:16SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:18SPEAKER_09: Interesting.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Uh this other uh this year's other nominees included the Black Crows, uh Mariah Carey, Joy Division New Order, Oasis, and Mana.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know who I don't know who knows who that is either.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Um I can get behind most of the people going in.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:33SPEAKER_02: Uh I will tell you that they had a round table discussion about who was slighted, and uh the most surprising inductee, believe it or not, most of them said Chuppy Checker Why?
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: Because he was wouldn't he have He was one of the pioneers.
- 46:50SPEAKER_09: I think.
- 46:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah, right.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: He was one of the first ones.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Um granted it was really the twist and let's twist again.
- 46:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, I mean his I mean his musical catalog is not huge, but Right.
- 47:02SPEAKER_09: I mean he's definitely an influence.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: Who is the most surprising exclusion?
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Uh one person said Joy Division New Order, uh then they said Oasis, some said fish.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Billy Idol to me uh was surprising.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: Uh that because that he didn't make it in.
- 47:19SPEAKER_09: I would think Billy Idol would go in before Oh, I'd put him in before friggin' Oasis.
- 47:25SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 47:25SPEAKER_09: Or Joy Division.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: But well uh not only that, but I mean the people that did go in, I would put Billy Idol in uh before Soundgarden.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: To be honest.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: I mean of course we're thinking chronologically though.
- 47:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:40SPEAKER_09: You know, but I mean, still, I mean, he I mean, everybody knows who Billy Idol is.
- 47:46SPEAKER_09: You can name him a Billy Idol song.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, put Soundgarden in, I would put Billy Idol in before the white stripes.
- 47:51SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, most definitely.
- 47:53SPEAKER_09: I mean, I would kick their butts out of there.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:56SPEAKER_09: So But you know, they didn't ask us, and we haven't gotten O'Brien and Doug's rock and roll awesomeness of whatever set up yet.
- 48:06SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 48:07SPEAKER_09: When it does, white stripes, bye bye.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: Um, okay, let's see.
- 48:16SPEAKER_09: I was thinking we should change the music.
- 48:18SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: Two.
- 48:20SPEAKER_09: Well, I was you you played uh House of Pain last week, and I was like, man, this is such a this would be awesome.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, Van Halen?
- 48:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: I am 100%.
- 48:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I was like, I was you know, because we were playing it for some reason last week.
- 48:33SPEAKER_09: I can't remember why.
- 48:34SPEAKER_09: And then you started playing it, and I was like, man, this actually would be pretty cool to play for uh mixtape.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: Alright, well, let's do that.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Let's uh let's change it up a little bit.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: We'll make so we'll make that the um uh temporary theme.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: The temporary theme song for for mixtape.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Where is it here?
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: I got so much.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: Alright, so are you ready?
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: Alright, let's do it.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: I might change up my Yeah.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: Now, here's the thing.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: I don't remember the question and I don't have an answer.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: Mixtape!
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: It's mixtape type! It's mixtape!
- 49:15SPEAKER_09: Well, this was the uh because I feel I feel really stupid.
- 49:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, because our judge had actually answered last week after the podcast, like she messaged me like Friday or Saturday or something like that.
- 49:30SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 49:30SPEAKER_09: And she answered it.
- 49:31SPEAKER_09: I totally forgot about it.
- 49:34SPEAKER_09: And so I messaged I messaged her to the before I came up and she was like, Do you have an answer?
- 49:39SPEAKER_09: She's like, I already told you my answer last week.
- 49:41SPEAKER_09: I was like, Oh.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, so this is for the past one.
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:45SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:45SPEAKER_09: So I totally forgot about what it was.
- 49:46SPEAKER_09: And it of course it's over Snapchat, so Snapchat doesn't save your So I I don't that's why I didn't remember us talking about it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: Because it didn't save the conversation about it.
- 49:58SPEAKER_09: So so she reminded me, but anyway, I don't have any big write-up like this week, but uh anyway, she went with uh your choice.
- 50:06SPEAKER_09: I don't even remember what it was.
- 50:07SPEAKER_09: It was um um What was the question?
- 50:11SPEAKER_09: It was the When Your Significant Other Drives.
- 50:14SPEAKER_09: What song?
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, and I said the eastbounded down.
- 50:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_09: So she picked it.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's cool.
- 50:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so she picked that one.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: So but what was the question this week?
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: Because I need to think of something really cool.
- 50:23SPEAKER_09: It was the you're going out to fight somebody at the playground.
- 50:30SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 50:30SPEAKER_09: Uh let me let me pull it up.
- 50:32SPEAKER_09: I still have it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_09: Uh it's 3.05, end of school, walking down the hallway.
- 50:37SPEAKER_09: A crowd begins to form behind you and follow out to the parking lot.
- 50:40SPEAKER_09: You crank the song playing in your sport walkman because you know it's time to kick that bully's ass.
- 50:46SPEAKER_09: What song do you play?
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 50:49SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: I think I just something just popped into my head.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: So what do you got from uh Cousin Larry?
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: Cousin Larry.
- 50:56SPEAKER_10: Uh okay.
- 51:01SPEAKER_09: Mixtape.
- 51:02SPEAKER_09: Well, being a child of the 70s and early 80s, the first few songs that came to mind were Kung Fu Fighting and Eye of the Tiger.
- 51:09SPEAKER_09: However, I deferred to the 90s song Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J, and I thought that would be a pretty cool song to play while heading out to the school parking lot with a crowd of kids behind me.
- 51:20SPEAKER_09: Honorable mention to Bullet for my Valentine's Walk Waking the Demon.
- 51:24SPEAKER_09: Great song.
- 51:26SPEAKER_09: Great song, a video with a werewolf.
- 51:28unknown: Come on, man.
- 51:29SPEAKER_04: And with the local DBC News, LL Cool J with the Joyce Comeback.
- 51:36SPEAKER_04: But tonight, don't call the comeback! Stay here for years!
- 52:15SPEAKER_09: Good choice.
- 52:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, excellent choice.
- 52:16SPEAKER_09: I was like, man, I cannot compete with that one.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: I can't compete with that one.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: Alright, what do you got?
- 52:22SPEAKER_09: I went in a similar vein.
- 52:23SPEAKER_09: I went with uh straight out of Compton, NWA.
- 52:31SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: I think it's I think we should censor everything that way every from now on.
- 54:04SPEAKER_02: Just be just do it on our own.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: Um all right, so I didn't have one before before we started.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: Um so as you said it, as you read it to me, I'm looking at this list of artists that are right here in front of me, and I found one.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: And I I think it's gonna fit.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna work.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: So uh picture you're walking out at three o'clock with maybe your buddies to go fight some buddies.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: So walking down the hall.
- 54:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Slider! Like a like a just like a strut or like a stroll.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I think that uh that'll work.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: Heck yeah, man.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: Velvet Revolver and Slither, which is a uh, you know, a far cry from from the hip-hop that you guys chose.
- 55:26SPEAKER_09: But yeah, well, I just I was just like, as soon as he said hello cool j was like, ah, dog got it.
- 55:31SPEAKER_09: I wish that is dog.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: All three, you know, all three would work.
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: Straight out of Compton for you.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: Um Mamas did knock you out with cousin Larry, and Slither is my choice.
- 55:42SPEAKER_02: I can see a slow-motion punch right here.
- 55:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we could say that.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: Great song, great choice.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: Great song.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: I love that song.
- 55:55SPEAKER_09: Uh oh, now we gotta do future.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Now we gotta do future.
- 55:58SPEAKER_09: So we don't don't forget.

- 56:11SPEAKER_08: Here we go.

- 56:23SPEAKER_09: Thanks, little dog.
- 56:24SPEAKER_09: I appreciate that.
- 56:24SPEAKER_09: Hey, very welcome, big dog.
- 56:29SPEAKER_09: Doug retires and he loses his mind.
- 56:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, here we go.
- 56:35SPEAKER_09: This is a good one.
- 56:36SPEAKER_09: This is a good one.
- 56:37SPEAKER_09: Very simple to the point.
- 56:40SPEAKER_09: Best Monday morning work song.
- 56:45SPEAKER_09: Best Monday morning work song.
- 56:46SPEAKER_09: Monday morning work song.
- 56:48SPEAKER_09: That is great.
- 56:50SPEAKER_09: Don't lose it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_06: Don't lose it, I crushed it.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: Thanks, little Doug.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: Is there a song called Don't Talk to Me?
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: Go away! Don't talk to me.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: I haven't had my caffeine.
- 57:02SPEAKER_09: Oh, what was that?
- 57:03SPEAKER_09: Uh was that song going?
- 57:05SPEAKER_09: Don't go away, Matt, just go away.
- 57:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, right.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, we shouldn't say anything because it was.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: Right, I'm sure.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: Uh okay, so there you go.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: That's mixtape for this week.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna take a break.
- 57:20SPEAKER_09: Hey, Doug, we're gonna take a break now.
- 57:21SPEAKER_09: Thanks, little Doug.
- 57:22SPEAKER_02: And we'll come back.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: Doug will uh read from the Beatles book.
- 57:25SPEAKER_09: Maybe Little Doug will join in.
- 57:26SPEAKER_09: Who knows?
- 57:27SPEAKER_09: We don't know what's gonna happen.
- 57:28SPEAKER_09: I will climb the wall of tunes.
- 57:30SPEAKER_09: Of course, that's a little weird.
- 57:31SPEAKER_09: I keep calling Little Doug.

- 59:07SPEAKER_09: Yay me! Okay.
- 59:09SPEAKER_09: Ah, this week we're off revolver.
- 59:13SPEAKER_09: Uh it's rain.
- 59:15unknown: Rain.
- 59:16SPEAKER_09: Rain.
- 59:17SPEAKER_09: In there's a place on the Beatles' first album, John had voiced the opinion that it's your state of mind that matters, not the events out there.
- 59:25SPEAKER_09: In rain, he picked up the theme again, although by this time psychedelic drugs had influenced his thinking.
- 59:32SPEAKER_10: No.
- 59:34SPEAKER_09: On one level, it was a simple song about people moaning because they don't like the weather, he said.
- 59:40SPEAKER_09: But on another level, it was a song that contained a message about the need to develop a state of mind in which we transcend both the good and the bad.
- 59:48SPEAKER_09: In the same way that we should be indifferent to the weather.
- 59:52SPEAKER_09: He feels that there is a need for people to rise above their circumstances.
- 59:57SPEAKER_09: The use of phrases I can show you and can you hear me indicated that John was starting to take his role as a spokesman seriously.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_09: Rain was the first Beatles track to suggest new transcendental states of consciousness.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_09: That was awful.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_09: Not just in its lyric, but in the music.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_09: The mournful, dragged-out vocal, the slowed-down instruments, and the backward tape at the end were all a taste of things to come.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_09: Backward taping became a controversial issue in the rock industry during the 70s and 80s when some artists were accused of concealing hidden messages within their recordings.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_09: The Beatles were responsible for making the first backwards tape on this track, had done it not to conceal messages, but simply to produce a new range of sounds to add extra color to their musical palette.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_09: Which makes sense.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_09: George Martin said he came up with the idea experimenting on his own after the Beatles had left the studio.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_09: He played back his new effects to them the next day.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_09: John, who wrote Rain at Kenwood, always claimed that he'd discovered the process, trying to thread a demo tape of the song on his home recorder while high on marijuana.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_09: He was in such a disoriented state that he got the tape twisted, and when he heard the sound like an Arabic chant coming from his headphones, he knew he'd found a sound which accurate accurately reflected his stoned consciousness.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_09: Rain was released on the reverse side of paperback writer.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_09: So the bass line on the Paul McCartney, man.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: This is the mono version.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_02: This is Yeah.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: Very cool.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_08: Alright, so Beatles, let's uh let's uh let's start this uh let's start this thing.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_08: How is that spider?
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_08: Spider.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: My son is at his girlfriend's house.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: So uh at eight o'clock, like ten minutes ago, he says, they're taking me home, which is great, we don't have to go get them.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_02: And I said, by nine.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: And he said, Yes.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: How was that spider?
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: And I said, I said, huh?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_02: So hopefully I'll get some clarification on that.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm not sure what he means by that.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_02: Um, all right, so I have picked an album.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: So let the guessing begin.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: Is it a man?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_08: Solo?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_08: Man?
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_08: Woman?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_08: Solo woman.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_08: Solo woman.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: Hopefully you'll get this.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you know this person or not, but I think I think you might.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_09: We'll see.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_09: Uh genre.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say folk.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_09: So it's not Bonnie Raid.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: No, but uh Sarah McLaughlin.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_02: No, uh uh uh I would say uh a voice almost like Bonnie Raid.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: Um very recognizable if you know this person.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_09: Is it um height of popularity?
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: Um I wanna say height of popularity?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say when she first came out, which would have been in the 90s.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Um she put out an album of just her and a guitar and it just kind of gives me energy.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_02: She dated rock and roll royalty for a little while.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think we talked about her not too long ago.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_02: Did we?
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_09: Um I just can't think of her name.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_09: I wonder if we Oh Patty Griffin!
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: It is it is Patty Griffin.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: Did we do her debut album?
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: On on a wall of tunes?
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_09: I don't think we have, to be honest.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_09: We might have.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: This one right here.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: Living with Ghosts.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_09: I think we've talked about it.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: This was in 1996.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: 1996.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: AM Records.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: Um boys, I hope we didn't do this album.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: Maybe we did.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, if we did, I mean it was a long time ago.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_09: Um but I'm not seeing her on this at all.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_02: There's she's from Old Town originally.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_02: And uh Old Town Maine, and she um I wanna say probably, I don't know, eight to ten years ago, maybe, she dated Robert Plant.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: Uh for a little while.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's I think we were talking about something and she came up.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_09: Um I don't think we've ever she's never been on the Wall of Tunes.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_09: Really?
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_09: Oh no, she has.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_02: I bet you it was this album too, I bet.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_09: Probably.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_09: But this is this will be the second time we've talked about her.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_09: Um This was this but this was a long time ago, dude.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_09: Alright, well then Well, maybe not that long ago.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: But let me let me just share a couple of tunes.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: Um I won't I'm trying to think of uh which ones I should share.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_02: You should share the good ones.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: Poor man's house is a great one.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: Sweet Larin is a great one.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: There's a song here that the uh Dixie Jack is covered.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: Um Let him fly.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: People will know that one.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gonna play for me in the house.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna play a little bit of Sweet Lorraine.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: Um maybe Moses.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe Moses.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: This is just her and a guitar.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: Uh and maybe you'll you'll get what I mean when I say she reminds me of any ring.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: Only because of her maybe the hammer of her voice.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Um let me uh let me start with uh hormones.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_02: Because this to me this is a wrenching song because we grew up with people like this.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_02: We grew up with people that um didn't have a lot of people and they got made fun of a lot of it.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: And I saw this from uh you know I'm thinking of a couple of uh people down in in your neck of the woods when I was in middle school.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: I was never I never took part in um just dogging on these people.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: But I wh I watched it.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: Right, you know, so you know um I didn't do anything about it.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_02: Because I was just a kid.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: But you know, we've seen you know, people like this and and what they go through, and um I don't know.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: This just her lyrics are just incredible.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: So this is Poor Man's House.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: When every bone is sore.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: When you don't ask anymore.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_01: You know you're coming to some kind of understanding.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: When every dream you dream is best, and you're still standing.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: Mama says God tends to every little skinny sheep.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: Soak out your ribs and say your prayers and get to sleep.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Daddy is born today, and he will be born tomorrow.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, that's the poor man's house.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: Everybody get a look at the poor man's house.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_01: Everywhere they went before must have turned around, and now they're living in a poor man's house.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: Normally I'd cut it off, but I want you here a little bit more.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_01: There's nothing like poverty to get you into heaven.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: They got a lot of wine and fish up there and the bread's on leaven.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: They got a lot of ears that I heard a whip gold crack.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: Lots of misting toes and fingers and scars upon their back.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: Daddy's been working too much for days and days and doesn't need it.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_01: He never says much.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: I think this time it's gotta be.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_01: Sweet Lorraine.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: Brown eyes skiber came from a long line of drinkers and dreamers who do the channel all up to dark and parking and paint to a fan just to get it.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_01: It shouldn't all the mother could only put up goes on to say how her dad uh never thought much of her and said she wasn't gonna mount too much and stuff like that.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: I mean just the the character was a very good thing.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_02: You know, they're like she writes such amazing stories, you know, character-driven stories.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: Um that's just a that's just that that's her debut album uh from 1996.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_02: And again, it's it's uh ten songs of just her and a guitar, and I think to me that's mesmerizing.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_09: She's got this this fantastic voice and reminds me of uh who's that girl who we always listen to, Kate uh?
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_09: Kate Rusby, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_09: A little bit, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_09: I can hear a little bit of that.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_02: Kate Rusby just put out a new album.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I haven't got it yet.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_02: So but I love Kate Rusby.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: She's awesome.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I see I see that a little bit.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: A little bit of Kate Rusby.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: But I think uh I think actually uh Patty came before Kate Rusby did.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_02: I think but yeah.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_02: And Patty Griffin, of course, is legendary now.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_02: She still makes a living doing doing this type of thing.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_02: And she's put out albums that are you know that have a full band and everything, you know.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_02: Um and it's it's great stuff.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_02: I just love Patty Griffin.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_08: She's pretty famous.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: She is pretty famous.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_02: In those in those in that uh circle for sure.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: Uh and from Old Town, Maine.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_02: Down the road.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_02: I think she lives in Austin, Texas now.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_02: I think she has for quite a while now.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_09: Why wouldn't you live in the Mecca that is the Old Town?
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_08: You need a canoe?
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_08: We got canoes.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_08: And a bakery.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_08: And meth.

- 1:14:43SPEAKER_02: And I hear I'll be a bum.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_02: You're gonna be like like bouncing off the walls.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_02: Probably not.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be like, oh, I'm screwed.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_02: Let me ask you this.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_02: What time do you usually wake up in the morning?
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_09: Like seven-ish.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_09: Six, seven-ish.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_09: What time do you go to work?
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_09: I thought you went to work earlier than that.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_09: It depends on where I'm working.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_09: Every place is different.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_02: You're usually there for eight, probably something like that.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.

- 1:15:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, for a while it's gonna feel like just like vacation.

- 1:15:41SPEAKER_09: What day is it?
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_02: That's what I hear from a lot of people who actually have retired but are of retirement age.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: Uh it's a lot of Saturdays.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_09: Well, yeah, I mean, uh when my mom retired, I bought her this little thing that says every day is a weekend when you're retired.
