- 0:19Speaker 4: Out there, I convintion Romeo.
- 0:21Speaker 5: Dobbs, Now, who do you think of Dobs?
- 0:23Speaker 6: I just wanted to get Evan's take on Harold Perkins Junior,
- 0:27Speaker 6: the linebacker from LSU.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Why don't you want my take on it?
- 0:30Speaker 5: It's good questions?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Would you rather have brown or here?
- 0:33Speaker 4: Here?
- 0:34Speaker 7: His fit is clear that.
- 0:36Speaker 4: One's going to come back and hot me.
- 0:38Speaker 8: I just want to give my quick take when it
- 0:39Speaker 8: comes to hie.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Take your time.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we we have all day.
- 0:43Speaker 6: So getting ratio isn't like more replied than like light.
- 0:48Speaker 6: It's when someone replies and they just get a lot
- 0:50Speaker 6: more like than the original, like tweet disagree.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Getting ratio social media slang for a post, usually on
- 0:58Speaker 5: X that receives significantly more replies and comments than likes
- 1:02Speaker 5: our shares, signaling widespread disapproval or backlash, backlash.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Woa, he dropped the phone?
- 1:09Speaker 4: Drop the phone. This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's
- 1:14Speaker 4: official website for deals by a Toyota dot Com.
- 1:19Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:23Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and there is nothing free about free agency.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm telling you. It's uh. Things are happening around the league.
- 1:31Speaker 2: It's not. I wouldn't say this is one of the
- 1:34Speaker 2: biggest free agencies that we've seen around the league in
- 1:37Speaker 2: terms of star power. But there's a lot of activity
- 1:39Speaker 2: going on. There's a lot of trades going on. Even
- 1:42Speaker 2: the Patriots had three signings, which you know, not huge names,
- 1:46Speaker 2: but one of them intrigues me the most. And we'll
- 1:48Speaker 2: get into all of that. It's Evan, it's Paul, it's Deuce,
- 1:51Speaker 2: it's Alex in the booth with Matt somewhere, and Matt's
- 1:53Speaker 2: back there.
- 1:54Speaker 7: There he is.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's get right into it. Patriots of three
- 2:01Speaker 2: free agents, Yeah, who are they and what can they
- 2:03Speaker 2: do for this team?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Well, I'm gonna start with Elijah Vera Tucker. I think
- 2:07Speaker 1: that's my signing, yeah, of the day. And it goes
- 2:10Speaker 1: back to what Evan said a couple of weeks ago, saying,
- 2:13Speaker 1: let's sign a left guard. The signs that were all
- 2:15Speaker 1: pointing to that when they traded Bradbury, and I think
- 2:18Speaker 1: we're all waiting with baited breath yesterday for them to
- 2:21Speaker 1: sign that left guard. And then it happened. I don't
- 2:22Speaker 1: know about eleven o'clock last night. There's a car crash outside.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But I really like this signing. To me, this is
- 2:28Speaker 1: what free agency is about. There's a gamble, for sure.
- 2:31Speaker 4: He's he's been.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Injured three of his five seasons, tore both tricep tendons
- 2:38Speaker 1: kill a way, but the you know, the Achilles was
- 2:40Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, so you would think that
- 2:42Speaker 1: his legs should be okay. But he's a top guard
- 2:46Speaker 1: if he's healthy. This is a slam dunk move at
- 2:48Speaker 1: twenty six. I always bang the drum for free agents
- 2:51Speaker 1: at twenty six. I know there's a risk involved, but
- 2:53Speaker 1: if it works out, it's easy to see exactly how
- 2:55Speaker 1: he fits in, how he helps the Patriots get better
- 2:58Speaker 1: al on the office.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And I think you've got now good depth there with
- 3:00Speaker 2: Ben Brown a little bit, you know, so we've got
- 3:02Speaker 2: some depth there at left guard all of a sudden.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, and you know worth pointing out
- 3:06Speaker 1: Michael when used a free agent next year.
- 3:08Speaker 7: I don't know how that's gonna work out. Maybe they do.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Extend him, but if not, that's also a position of
- 3:12Speaker 1: long term need. Also with just highlight Vera, Tucker's played
- 3:15Speaker 1: on right tackle, he's played right guard.
- 3:17Speaker 7: He's played a few different spots.
- 3:18Speaker 1: They don't need him to do that, but it's always
- 3:20Speaker 1: nice to know that a guy has.
- 3:21Speaker 2: That kind of experience.
- 3:22Speaker 4: He kind of is a right guard. Yeah, but yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 4: I'm a part as a rookie. I'm with Mike. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 4: he's bossed around. He's played position versatility as well. But
- 3:32Speaker 4: I agree with Evans, you know, guard theory. From the
- 3:35Speaker 4: moment that we started talking about this a couple of
- 3:37Speaker 4: weeks ago. I think the biggest takeaway from me is
- 3:40Speaker 4: if he pencils in at left guard, he makes Will
- 3:43Speaker 4: Campbell and Jared Wilson or Ben Brown. If Ben Brown
- 3:46Speaker 4: ends up being the center, I think it'll be Wilson.
- 3:48Speaker 4: But I think he makes those two guys better, So
- 3:50Speaker 4: I really like it. Mike's right, he'll be twenty seven
- 3:53Speaker 4: in June. Obviously there's a risk. That's why there's there
- 3:57Speaker 4: were no sure things in free agency. Mike, you did
- 4:01Speaker 4: a great job of sort of setting the table.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he played fifteen games last year.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Now, right right before, he's played twenty three of a
- 4:10Speaker 4: possible eighty five games.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Yeah, there's his career for sure. I think that right now,
- 4:17Speaker 5: there's sort of a hollow feeling to their free agency
- 4:19Speaker 5: because they haven't added a weapon on offense, and until
- 4:22Speaker 5: they go out there and make a splash on the
- 4:24Speaker 5: receiver market, it's not going to feel complete. It's not
- 4:27Speaker 5: going to feel before.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We get into what they haven't done yet. Let's talk
- 4:31Speaker 2: about what they have now. Let's talk about the.
- 4:33Speaker 5: We got to be honest about.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We will get to that, but I want to talk
- 4:36Speaker 2: about who they've signed first.
- 4:38Speaker 5: I'm getting there.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Let's get out. Let's get that out of the way.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I'm getting there. I just got to be objective.
- 4:43Speaker 2: We're going to talk about it. Don't worry.
- 4:45Speaker 5: We will get it said, like we're talking about guards
- 4:48Speaker 5: and fullbacks. But Elijah Vera Tucker is a really good
- 4:52Speaker 5: player when he's healthy, and you know that that's exactly
- 4:55Speaker 5: the number one thing. We all have to put that
- 4:57Speaker 5: caveat on it. But he's a really good player when
- 4:59Speaker 5: he's healthy. And I think one of the more optimistic
- 5:02Speaker 5: things about it is is just an obvious thing to do. Like,
- 5:05Speaker 5: Jared Wilson's a center. He's built like a center, played
- 5:08Speaker 5: center in college. When they drafted him, Eliot Wolf came
- 5:11Speaker 5: out and said, we view him as a center. And
- 5:13Speaker 5: it's just nice to have a front office and a
- 5:15Speaker 5: coaching staff that's aligned on big picture visions of players
- 5:20Speaker 5: and how things look. So they did a common sense thing.
- 5:23Speaker 5: They moved on from Garrett Bradbury, who you know, had
- 5:27Speaker 5: a nice season for them, but it was short time,
- 5:30Speaker 5: not a long time with him too. They moved Jared
- 5:33Speaker 5: Wilson presumably inside the center, and they signed a starting
- 5:37Speaker 5: caliber left guard like that. It's nice to have that again,
- 5:40Speaker 5: where we're just doing the obvious, common sense things and
- 5:43Speaker 5: we're not trying to go outside the box or rethink things,
- 5:47Speaker 5: or you know, go and sign like a six million
- 5:50Speaker 5: dollar guard that retires in training camp or something like that. Like, no,
- 5:53Speaker 5: you got yourself a legit player here that obviously you know,
- 5:57Speaker 5: has some injury concern For me.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Like I was willing to give up the thirty first
- 6:02Speaker 2: pick for a good guard. I don't need to do
- 6:05Speaker 2: that now. I don't think I can maybe use that
- 6:07Speaker 2: pick on another position.
- 6:09Speaker 7: Yeah, potentially it's you know.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I just like we talked a lot about the veteran
- 6:12Speaker 1: guards and you know, those guys in their early thirties.
- 6:15Speaker 1: If it worked out, maybe you get a good season
- 6:17Speaker 1: out of them, but you always know that this player
- 6:19Speaker 1: is probably going to decline and you know, if not
- 6:21Speaker 1: this year, in the coming years. Where as this one, yes,
- 6:23Speaker 1: there's a risk, but if you hit it out of
- 6:25Speaker 1: the park, it's not like, well we'll get it one
- 6:27Speaker 1: good year out of him. You might get three to
- 6:29Speaker 1: four good years out of him. So I'm excited about that.
- 6:31Speaker 9: One.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Second one I would highlight was just Draymont Jones thinking
- 6:35Speaker 1: a lot about that one. I think what confused everybody
- 6:37Speaker 1: was that he's listed at to eighty and everyone's like, wait,
- 6:39Speaker 1: what is he a side married he's too eighty. But
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, we were all kind of talking about it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But I kind of see this move as kind of
- 6:46Speaker 1: a Harold Landry insurance move. And I know that that
- 6:48Speaker 1: they paid him a good contract that it wasn't you know,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it was in need. So you know, Evan said guard
- 6:53Speaker 1: I said, edge were positions we wanted to see them
- 6:55Speaker 1: hit out.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Of the gate.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Jeriman Jones has been you know, he hasn't been like
- 6:59Speaker 1: a full time player, but he's always think his first
- 7:01Speaker 1: year at three and a half sacks. Otherwise he's always
- 7:03Speaker 1: had four more sacks. Like he's out there and he's
- 7:06Speaker 1: fairly productive. But I still see edge as a big need.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I almost see them needing three guys because I don't
- 7:12Speaker 1: know what to expect from Haro Landry.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Chase On still out there.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You could still resign him and then I think that's
- 7:17Speaker 1: a good complimentary move. But I see this as kind
- 7:19Speaker 1: of an insurance that if Harol Landry can't come back,
- 7:22Speaker 1: then he's going to be that guy who usually plays
- 7:24Speaker 1: on the left side, is a little bit more stout
- 7:25Speaker 1: against the run. He's not, you know, gonna blitz the edge.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He's not going to be firing off the ball. He's
- 7:30Speaker 1: more of a power kind of a guy.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I didn't look at this one as fulfilling anything. Really.
- 7:34Speaker 2: It's just like, we like this guy, he's available, the
- 7:37Speaker 2: price is right, let's put him on our right and
- 7:40Speaker 2: we're gonna have to fill out a fifty three man roster.
- 7:42Speaker 2: So I'm great. I agree with you.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I still they paid them more money than the price
- 7:47Speaker 4: is right. I mean, I but I think point about
- 7:51Speaker 4: Chase On, like, I love this move. If they resigned
- 7:54Speaker 4: Chase On, yeah yeah, or somebody you know, somebody else now,
- 7:57Speaker 4: a lot of those sort of there was a lot
- 8:01Speaker 4: of depth at that spot, you know, and it was
- 8:03Speaker 4: Jalen Phillips and Trey Hendrickson at the top. Jalen Phillips
- 8:06Speaker 4: obviously signed for big money. Hendrickson's still out there, but
- 8:08Speaker 4: I don't really look at him as I mean, maybe
- 8:11Speaker 4: they'll surprise us. Yeah, But a lot of those secondary guys,
- 8:13Speaker 4: they all went yesterday, you know, all of ala EV's guys.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Oh wait, Mafe Quitty pay you know what I mean too,
- 8:20Speaker 4: all the all the four letter last day guys, all
- 8:23Speaker 4: for big, big money.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I couldn't believe the contract. Oh wait, got yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 5: I think it goes back to what I was getting at.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Its just when you get to the draft, you don't
- 8:33Speaker 5: want to have to reach on positions of need where
- 8:35Speaker 5: you have these glaring holes on the roster that forced
- 8:37Speaker 5: you in, Especially at a spot like thirty one where
- 8:40Speaker 5: the talent is already going to start to be falling
- 8:42Speaker 5: off a little bit. You don't want to get to
- 8:43Speaker 5: the draft and say we don't have a starting edge rusher,
- 8:46Speaker 5: So like we have to draft right an edge rusher here.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Draymond Jones is a guy that can play a high
- 8:52Speaker 5: volume of snaps. He's a decent pass rusher, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 5: above average, I would say in that regard, more of
- 8:57Speaker 5: like a power bull rusher, but has some quickness, especially
- 9:00Speaker 5: when he rushes a little bit more on the inside.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Which I think is an interesting kind of wrinkle that
- 9:05Speaker 5: separates him from some of the other guys that they
- 9:07Speaker 5: had last year is that if you want to move
- 9:09Speaker 5: him and have him rush over the guard on third down,
- 9:11Speaker 5: he can do that a little bit more than what
- 9:14Speaker 5: like Landry and Chase on have done in their history.
- 9:16Speaker 5: So he has a little bit more versatility, I would say,
- 9:19Speaker 5: a little bit more play strength, a little bit more size.
- 9:22Speaker 2: How was he holding the edge?
- 9:24Speaker 5: Not so hot, But I would say that their system
- 9:28Speaker 5: that's not been something that they have prioritized a ton
- 9:32Speaker 5: with their edge rushers because they kind of scheme it
- 9:34Speaker 5: up a little bit differently than how they did in
- 9:36Speaker 5: the past. We're not boxing as much. You know, they
- 9:38Speaker 5: were spilling.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You know, I know people are going to look at
- 9:41Speaker 4: the Super Bowl and laugh at this comment that I'm
- 9:43Speaker 4: going to make But to Evan's point, I don't think
- 9:45Speaker 4: that they held the edge very well last year, and
- 9:48Speaker 4: they had an outstanding run defense for the balance of
- 9:51Speaker 4: the season. Now in the Super Bowl it didn't work
- 9:53Speaker 4: out that way, but for the you know, during the
- 9:56Speaker 4: regular season, they were what top three run defense.
- 9:59Speaker 5: BECAU want their edges to more get up the field
- 10:02Speaker 5: and get that penetration and then string the ball outside.
- 10:05Speaker 5: So it kind of looks like to the naked eye
- 10:08Speaker 5: that they're giving up the edge, but they're kind of
- 10:09Speaker 5: purposely giving up the edge and they want to kind
- 10:12Speaker 5: of string the guy out towards the sideline and then
- 10:14Speaker 5: they have their linebackers and safeties kind of flow inside
- 10:18Speaker 5: there to kind of get him, you know, into the sideline.
- 10:21Speaker 5: More So, they just kind of do it a little
- 10:23Speaker 5: bit differently for the most part in terms of their
- 10:25Speaker 5: run defense. So they really want guys that get off
- 10:28Speaker 5: the ball, that get into the backfield, that can then pockets,
- 10:32Speaker 5: that can run picks and stunts and things like that.
- 10:35Speaker 5: That's Draymond Jones's game, That's all the different things that
- 10:39Speaker 5: he does.
- 10:39Speaker 4: And real quick they they wanted this guy at the
- 10:42Speaker 4: trade deadline last year. Well, there was I shouldn't say
- 10:44Speaker 4: they wanted. There was reports that they had a lot
- 10:46Speaker 4: of interest in him when he was in Tennessee and
- 10:49Speaker 4: they tried to acquire him, and that was one of
- 10:52Speaker 4: the I don't know if you remember this, Freddy, but
- 10:55Speaker 4: there was a kind of reports that Tennessee with Amy
- 10:59Speaker 4: Adams Trunk did not want to deal with Mike Grable
- 11:02Speaker 4: and he ended up going to Baltimore instead. So there
- 11:05Speaker 4: was some interest in this player. Eventually they they were
- 11:08Speaker 4: able to get him.
- 11:09Speaker 2: All right. So for your fans of the full back, yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 2: Patriots have one now party part of your Yeah, we're helping.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We're helping to grease the skids a little bit, only
- 11:17Speaker 1: on the window closing.
- 11:17Speaker 4: But that's probably the nail in the coffin.
- 11:20Speaker 5: No, I mean my favorite signing.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'll let you I'll let you ax pay it.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I just set it up and say, if you're going
- 11:26Speaker 1: to run a full back that much, go.
- 11:28Speaker 7: Get a real full back. This guy's a real full back.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And anytime you can get a guy that clearly the
- 11:33Speaker 1: Bills valued and really liked. I know there's a lot
- 11:35Speaker 1: of clips popping up of the players talking about how
- 11:37Speaker 1: important he was to that offense. He was the primary
- 11:40Speaker 1: push pusher of Josh Allen, So I just I like
- 11:43Speaker 1: to have Josh likes the full back. If you're gonna
- 11:45Speaker 1: do it, you got a real I was.
- 11:47Speaker 2: A lot of Bills fans on X were upset that
- 11:50Speaker 2: they got rid of him. A lot of fans liked him.
- 11:54Speaker 1: That might be the most athletic guy on the roster.
- 11:56Speaker 5: He's fantastic. I mean he's he's a point of attack,
- 12:00Speaker 5: but he can also move. It's a little bit more
- 12:02Speaker 5: athletic than some of the fullbacks that the Patriots have had,
- 12:05Speaker 5: like a Yakub Johnson or a James Devlin. He's guy
- 12:08Speaker 5: that can get out in space and lead block, you
- 12:10Speaker 5: know up to the second level, kick guys out, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 5: do the whole gamut of blocks that you could possibly
- 12:16Speaker 5: ask for a fullback. Like he's a little less of
- 12:18Speaker 5: a sledgehammer, I would say than those guys were, but like,
- 12:21Speaker 5: definitely more athletic and can move a lot better in space.
- 12:26Speaker 5: He was featured a lot in their zone schemes. You know,
- 12:29Speaker 5: they ran a lot of zone schemes. But I think
- 12:30Speaker 5: the biggest thing that you see with him on the
- 12:32Speaker 5: field is they averaged almost nine yards per pass attempt
- 12:35Speaker 5: with him on the field because they're showing you run formation,
- 12:38Speaker 5: They're showing you all this run action, and then they're
- 12:40Speaker 5: play actioning off of all of this, and there's just
- 12:43Speaker 5: wide open receivers all over the film from them kind
- 12:46Speaker 5: of using that full back in the backfield with James
- 12:48Speaker 5: Cook behind him, and we're coming at you. Josh Allen's
- 12:51Speaker 5: under center. All of a sudden, he's keeping the ball
- 12:53Speaker 5: and now we're bombing it down the field over your
- 12:55Speaker 5: ear hole.
- 12:56Speaker 7: I'm just sorry I would jumped in.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I just I was interested because we've talked a lot
- 12:59Speaker 1: about the Bills and how they've kind of evolved to
- 13:01Speaker 1: more under center stuff, and I just wonder Gilliam was
- 13:05Speaker 1: a part of that. Now you take Gilliam out of that,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, just to me, it continues to point toward
- 13:09Speaker 1: the Bills. It just continues piling things on Josh Allen
- 13:12Speaker 1: more for you to do more. I mean, I know
- 13:13Speaker 1: they signed Dawson Knox today, but I think it's a
- 13:16Speaker 1: loss for the Bills.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Yeah, He's he's fun to watch, you know, He's he
- 13:21Speaker 5: is more one of those guys that kind of like
- 13:23Speaker 5: builds up ahead of steam. With his speed and then
- 13:25Speaker 5: kind of has that initial pop that he generates off
- 13:28Speaker 5: of that. He's really really I mean, this is really
- 13:31Speaker 5: gonna drive Paul nuts. He's a fantastic kickoff return blocker.
- 13:37Speaker 5: And the Bills had they had a great kick maybe
- 13:39Speaker 5: the number one unit in the league on kickoff returns.
- 13:44Speaker 5: And a big reason why is because you know, Gilliam
- 13:47Speaker 5: was a weapon, Like they would literally use him in
- 13:49Speaker 5: different blocking schemes as a lead blocker to open up
- 13:52Speaker 5: holes for Ray Davis on kickoff return. So he's a
- 13:56Speaker 5: big time special teamer, a big time blocker in the
- 13:58Speaker 5: run game verse. Sill can play a little bit on
- 14:01Speaker 5: the wing or off, you know, on the line of
- 14:03Speaker 5: scrimmage as well as in the backfield. Uh. It will
- 14:07Speaker 5: be a fun piece for Josh McDaniel's introduce his point.
- 14:09Speaker 5: If you're going to be like a thirty percent full
- 14:11Speaker 5: back team, then you might as well have a great
- 14:13Speaker 5: full back, like if you're gonna do it that often.
- 14:15Speaker 4: So you have numbers real quick, Freddie, I'm sorry, do
- 14:19Speaker 4: you have the numbers for Patriots under center last year? Shotgun? Yeah,
- 14:24Speaker 4: I mean there's.
- 14:25Speaker 5: About forty percent center last year.
- 14:27Speaker 4: So do you think that that number will rise.
- 14:29Speaker 5: No, No, I think that their usage of two back
- 14:33Speaker 5: personnel specifically will rise, probably about five or six percent.
- 14:36Speaker 5: You know. McDaniels in twenty two with Vegas and then
- 14:39Speaker 5: twenty one with the Patriots is right around twenty eight
- 14:42Speaker 5: percent two back formation. Last year the Patriots are about
- 14:45Speaker 5: twenty two percent full back, you know, two back formation.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Yeah, so the fullbacks wasn't good. I am going to
- 14:51Speaker 4: switch like that. I mean, I know, I'm being nitpicky.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Like they also used Henderson and Stevenson a lot, which
- 14:57Speaker 4: I think is a different two back set than what
- 14:59Speaker 4: we're talking.
- 14:59Speaker 5: No, I'm talking about I'm talking about not that's out
- 15:02Speaker 5: of the shotgun, and I'm not talking about pony. I'm
- 15:04Speaker 5: talking about backs. Yeah, with the full back, I.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Would expect that to rise over what they did this
- 15:11Speaker 4: year with Westover.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Did I read correctly that they tendered west Over?
- 15:17Speaker 5: They did, but he was a exclusive rights agent, which
- 15:21Speaker 5: is like not a ton of guaranteed money.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, yeah, are you surprised after bringing in that
- 15:26Speaker 2: fullback that they did that or a tiny bit?
- 15:29Speaker 1: But I think west Over is really more of a
- 15:30Speaker 1: tight end anyway, So I yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Not anything like guaranteed or anything like if he doesn't
- 15:36Speaker 4: make the team, he doesn't make the team.
- 15:38Speaker 1: But you got Broccolipi coming back too, So I mean
- 15:39Speaker 1: you do have a few guys on the roster right
- 15:41Speaker 1: now that can play.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Maybe that's a redundant.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Just one other point I wanted to make, like, have
- 15:44Speaker 1: you pointed out the specific areas where Gillian can improve?
- 15:47Speaker 1: And I thought short yardage was an area too that
- 15:50Speaker 1: he could help that I didn't think was a strength
- 15:52Speaker 1: last year. I think he really struggled, especially do on
- 15:53Speaker 1: the goal line, you know, some of those if.
- 15:55Speaker 4: That might be his biggest impact. I think he was
- 15:57Speaker 4: excellent at that with with Josh Allen, and I think
- 15:59Speaker 4: he can how Drake May do it.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I mean Drake May He's not the best sneaker, no, no,
- 16:05Speaker 2: so he could use somebody in front of him, just
- 16:07Speaker 2: kind of making a dent behind him put that target.
- 16:12Speaker 5: But yeah, they were I want to say I wrote
- 16:15Speaker 5: it in the film. I think they were eighty five
- 16:17Speaker 5: percent successful on sneaks last year Buffalo, which was top
- 16:20Speaker 5: five in the league. The Patriots were like middle of
- 16:22Speaker 5: the pack, seventy something on sneak. So it was a
- 16:26Speaker 5: it was a noticeable difference just in terms of success rate,
- 16:30Speaker 5: and Gillian would get behind him and push them across
- 16:34Speaker 5: the line.
- 16:34Speaker 4: I had a couple in the playoffs that were yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 4: scored from right.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Yeah, So he's he's a beast.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Okay, all right, So that's the three three pickups, common
- 16:46Speaker 2: sense pickups. I would call him nothing, no big splashes,
- 16:50Speaker 2: although I do like the left guard. If he can
- 16:52Speaker 2: stay healthy, I think we've splash. That's that's that's in
- 16:57Speaker 2: my opinion, helping Drake may Yah. Know absolutely again, we're
- 17:01Speaker 2: not there yet, but it's it's a step, but there's
- 17:04Speaker 2: a there's a high reward if it works out, and
- 17:06Speaker 2: I like making moves like that on players that have talent.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You know, this guy is no question. Was he fourteenth
- 17:12Speaker 1: overall in the twenty one draft. I mean he can play,
- 17:14Speaker 1: and everybody that says when he's out there playing, he's
- 17:16Speaker 1: a really, really good.
- 17:17Speaker 4: And another one of goes way back a little bit.
- 17:19Speaker 4: But it's another one the reports, if you believe all
- 17:22Speaker 4: the reports, this is the guy the Patriots wanted in
- 17:24Speaker 4: that draft, and the Jets traded up ahead of the
- 17:27Speaker 4: Patriots and in stole them and they ended up taking.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And Mac Jones Mac Johns.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, yeah, he played the fourteenth pick in
- 17:35Speaker 4: the twenty one draft and the Patriots ended up There
- 17:37Speaker 4: was a lot of people who were pretty convinced that
- 17:40Speaker 4: Belichick was going to take this guy.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, all right, so now Evan, sorry, time for
- 17:46Speaker 2: you gripes.
- 17:47Speaker 5: No I have gripes. I just it's incomplete, Like oh yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 5: yet it's just incomplete, that's all. And you know, the
- 17:55Speaker 5: Alec Piers thing was was a bummer, but at the
- 17:58Speaker 5: same time, only one team could get him, and he
- 18:00Speaker 5: ended up going back to his own team.
- 18:02Speaker 2: So making him the highest wide receiver in history.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Uh, incorrect, that's what I read.
- 18:08Speaker 5: No, No, he was.
- 18:09Speaker 4: He's making Chase.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it's making like twenty nine a million a year
- 18:13Speaker 5: made for the Colts. But yeah, they think they got
- 18:18Speaker 5: I mean he signed it at like eleven fifty. He
- 18:20Speaker 5: didn't even really technically hit the open market at all.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:24Speaker 5: So, I but I think that right now, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 5: you're looking at that being the most glaring need on
- 18:29Speaker 5: the team by a mile, Like they need to get
- 18:32Speaker 5: more weaponry around Drake May. Yeah. I think that if
- 18:35Speaker 5: you had season started tomorrow, it's the same thing that
- 18:37Speaker 5: we said earlier, like Elijah Veritucker slides in nicely at
- 18:41Speaker 5: left guard. Draymond Jones can be a starting edge like
- 18:44Speaker 5: they have starters at a lot of those different spots.
- 18:47Speaker 5: The one spot that you're really looking at that is
- 18:50Speaker 5: concerning right now is wide receiver. They just don't have
- 18:52Speaker 5: enough talent there. Yeah, high in talent.
- 18:54Speaker 7: They've lost the player, I mean, just the simple math
- 18:56Speaker 7: of it.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, and we should probably mention. I don't know, Mike,
- 19:01Speaker 4: if you have the list in front of you, but
- 19:03Speaker 4: the Patriots did. There was a handful of guys that
- 19:06Speaker 4: that will not be back. Kyris Tonga is one July
- 19:12Speaker 4: and they released. But Tonga signed with Kansas City for
- 19:17Speaker 4: three years, so there's I mean, I think Draymont Jones
- 19:22Speaker 4: could be part of that equation. I think they probably
- 19:25Speaker 4: like some of the young depth that they sort of
- 19:27Speaker 4: cultivated with Joshua Farmer and Corey Durdin, you know, those
- 19:32Speaker 4: kinds of guys. Even the guy who the name escapes
- 19:35Speaker 4: me that blocked the field, Leonard Taylor. Leonard Taylor. So
- 19:40Speaker 4: they probably feel okay with that. I think they made
- 19:42Speaker 4: a run to get Tonga done before the end of
- 19:45Speaker 4: the season. Didn't work out. But you know, selfishly, I
- 19:49Speaker 4: liked the guy. I was a little disappointed to see
- 19:51Speaker 4: him go. I thought he did a nice job for
- 19:53Speaker 4: him last year. Not one that's gonna well, you know
- 19:55Speaker 4: who they really missed this year, you know, Kyrie's Tonga.
- 19:58Speaker 4: You know, I don't think we're gonna be saying that
- 20:00Speaker 4: at the end of the season. But yeah, I thought
- 20:03Speaker 4: he did a good job last year.
- 20:05Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean the draft.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Especially before the injuries started to pile up on Alex.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I guess rap sheet's wrong because the Indian As Colts
- 20:10Speaker 2: and Pierce have agreed to a historic four year, one
- 20:13Speaker 2: hundred and fourteen million dollar deal, making him the highest
- 20:15Speaker 2: paid wide receiver free agent wide receiver in NFL history. Okay,
- 20:20Speaker 2: hit the.
- 20:21Speaker 5: Free free agent I see, even though like he whatever,
- 20:26Speaker 5: it technically didn't hit the free agent market, so I
- 20:28Speaker 5: don't know how he was.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Oh I like that too. He signed with his own team,
- 20:32Speaker 4: so he's actually no different than the other. Yeah, so
- 20:34Speaker 4: that's wrong all the way across the board.
- 20:36Speaker 5: But his agent told him, right, that's funny. Anyways.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Now, I wasn't too broken up with Tonga. It just
- 20:42Speaker 1: I mean, no, it is what it is. I agree
- 20:44Speaker 1: with Paul's point, and I think there's a lot of
- 20:46Speaker 1: those guys in the draft. You can find it two
- 20:48Speaker 1: down three hundred and twenty to three hundred and thirty pounds.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they tackle kind of off the street
- 20:53Speaker 2: last year.
- 20:54Speaker 7: Yeah, so I do. I do think it's a need.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Like I think they're gonna have to get a big
- 20:57Speaker 1: dude who weighs about three thirty somehow. But got Tonga
- 21:00Speaker 1: last year. He was on five teams and six years.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's round six rounds.
- 21:05Speaker 4: The guy they got this year is this is going
- 21:07Speaker 4: to be a fifteen and eight years. So I just
- 21:09Speaker 4: look at it.
- 21:11Speaker 5: It's like they literally had to make Tonga a full
- 21:13Speaker 5: back because they didn't have a full back. Yeah that
- 21:15Speaker 5: could block and so you know it just that's the
- 21:19Speaker 5: way I was looking at Tongue. I'm with Douce on
- 21:21Speaker 5: nose tackles, especially a draft like this, there's like the
- 21:24Speaker 5: only nose tackles you.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Got four six round picks. You can find a three
- 21:28Speaker 4: hundred and twenty pounds.
- 21:28Speaker 5: There's literally this is this draft is the not the
- 21:31Speaker 5: draft for you if you need a nose tackle, because
- 21:33Speaker 5: literally every defensive tackle in this draft is is that
- 21:36Speaker 5: kind of coo?
- 21:37Speaker 4: Well, so Austin Hooper, Yeah, turned Atlanta yep, lot to
- 21:44Speaker 4: uh San Francisco as well.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Uh but yeah, I don't know. I'm not really all
- 21:49Speaker 7: that torn up yet.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I mean, I'm definitely still wide receiver position for sure.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But that always was probably going to be a trade, you.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Know, there was, And I think there's more than just
- 21:58Speaker 4: a J. Brown. I think there's some Crys Thomas Thomas,
- 22:04Speaker 4: you know, like, I don't know. Yeah, we'll see, but
- 22:07Speaker 4: I think there's some guys available. What do you think
- 22:10Speaker 4: to hold up because A J.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Brown is still out there and it's not just the Patriots.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I think the Patriots are waiting to see if they
- 22:16Speaker 1: could get the price down. And I mean I thinks
- 22:18Speaker 1: are holding tight.
- 22:21Speaker 2: But do you think that What's Howie Roseman thinks that.
- 22:27Speaker 2: You know, I'm playing tough right now, but I gotta
- 22:30Speaker 2: get I got to move this guy because I can't
- 22:33Speaker 2: have them.
- 22:33Speaker 7: I think that's the golden question.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I don't think you don't think so you don't think
- 22:37Speaker 2: that a J. Brown will you know, kind of be
- 22:40Speaker 2: disgruntled defeat doesn't get traded.
- 22:42Speaker 4: But like what would change over the last two years.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Well now it's come. Yeah, now it's even more. You know,
- 22:48Speaker 2: there's a team that he wants to go to and
- 22:51Speaker 2: maybe other teams, and this guy is making a price
- 22:55Speaker 2: that it's just unreasonable and I want to leave. Let
- 23:00Speaker 2: me leave.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Well, I think he wants to leave, but I don't
- 23:02Speaker 4: really think anything has changed in that regard for the
- 23:04Speaker 4: last two years, and they've been able to win despite it.
- 23:06Speaker 4: So if I were Howie Roseman, I would stick tight
- 23:09Speaker 4: to what I think is the value. Now there's an
- 23:13Speaker 4: argument to be made that he's being irrational with what
- 23:16Speaker 4: he thinks is the value. I'm not suggesting that. I'm
- 23:19Speaker 4: not an expert on trade compensation. Maybe what he's looking
- 23:23Speaker 4: for is too much. Maybe they're not serious about trading them,
- 23:27Speaker 4: I don't know, or.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Maybe the June first thing is the biggest thing. So
- 23:31Speaker 5: they if they trade him before June first, it's like
- 23:33Speaker 5: a forty million dollar dead cap hit. They trade them
- 23:35Speaker 5: after June first, they can split up the dead cap
- 23:38Speaker 5: over two seasons, so it kind of cuts it in
- 23:40Speaker 5: half on how it hits their books this year. So
- 23:43Speaker 5: to trade him right now, I think you really need
- 23:46Speaker 5: to blow the Eagles out of the water to get
- 23:48Speaker 5: them to eat that kind of money on their cap,
- 23:51Speaker 5: Whereas if you wait a little bit longer, you might
- 23:54Speaker 5: be able to get them down a little bit. But
- 23:56Speaker 5: then you start to get into the whole twenty twenty
- 23:59Speaker 5: seven draft thing, and that becomes a factor. The way
- 24:02Speaker 5: some people, I think it's overblown. But the way some
- 24:05Speaker 5: people are talking about the twenty twenty seven draft, especially
- 24:08Speaker 5: the first round of the twenty twenty seven draft, is
- 24:10Speaker 5: like it's going to be a historically great wide receiver draft.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Jeremiah Smith obviously the prize at the top, but if
- 24:16Speaker 5: you're a team like the Patriots that might have a
- 24:19Speaker 5: tiny little bit of concern of regression to the mean
- 24:21Speaker 5: that you're not going to be picking thirty one in
- 24:23Speaker 5: twenty twenty seven. Dealing your twenty twenty seven first round
- 24:27Speaker 5: pick is like dealing, you know, in precious jeans.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I hope they're not thinking that way too much, because
- 24:33Speaker 2: if you have a good player that you want, don't
- 24:35Speaker 2: be thinking about twenty twenty seven. You know. Maybe Roseman's
- 24:39Speaker 2: part of his thinking is if I have to keep
- 24:42Speaker 2: the guy, I can at least tell him, listen, the
- 24:44Speaker 2: reason you didn't go is because I put a high
- 24:46Speaker 2: value on you. I value you. I don't want to
- 24:49Speaker 2: let you go unless somebody blows me out of the
- 24:51Speaker 2: water because I think highly of your skill level and
- 24:55Speaker 2: maybe that.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Appiece that's simple as that. I'm not just going to
- 24:58Speaker 4: give you away.
- 24:58Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I get it. I have to. I have
- 25:01Speaker 7: to admit though, I I've.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Loved AJ Brown for a long time, but as I
- 25:04Speaker 1: kind of like got down the road a little bit
- 25:06Speaker 1: and was watching him lately, like I would still very
- 25:09Speaker 1: much like him. But I don't know if I be
- 25:10Speaker 1: as disappointed now as I might have been a month ago.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I'll be disappointed if they don't get a receipt.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Yes, no, I will too, and I would, and I'd
- 25:17Speaker 1: say edge again and and tight end.
- 25:19Speaker 7: You know what's the plan. A tight end is a
- 25:21Speaker 7: spot where I think they.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Could all available too, you know, not just the trades,
- 25:25Speaker 4: but Joeku and you know, my my Romeo Dobs thing
- 25:29Speaker 4: is still out there. You know, Juwan Jennings is another
- 25:31Speaker 4: wide receiver's still out there. So there are regular free agents.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I'm not necessarily saying they're going to be a J
- 25:36Speaker 4: Brown's or you know that caliber of player. Stefan Diggs
- 25:41Speaker 4: is still available. I mean, who knows.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I was thinking about that last night with Fred.
- 25:44Speaker 5: I was like, if they if the musical chair stop
- 25:48Speaker 5: and Diggs doesn't have a chair and the Patriots don't
- 25:50Speaker 5: have a chair, is this just meant to be?
- 25:51Speaker 4: Like are they just a marriage that's meant to be Checkers?
- 25:54Speaker 5: But with aj Brown, I think you have to get
- 25:56Speaker 5: your head around that he's maybe a little bit of
- 25:58Speaker 5: a different player kind of like so where like I
- 26:01Speaker 5: don't know if he's the downfield receiver that he once
- 26:04Speaker 5: was anymore, where he's you know, really a third level separator.
- 26:08Speaker 5: He does a little bit on double moves, but not
- 26:10Speaker 5: like purely just running by guys anymore. But he's now
- 26:15Speaker 5: turned into like a much better possession like catch and
- 26:17Speaker 5: run receiver, where like Philly didn't really use him particularly well,
- 26:22Speaker 5: I would say last year, like if you can you
- 26:24Speaker 5: move him around more, basically put him in the role
- 26:27Speaker 5: that Diggs was in. Like I think that at this
- 26:30Speaker 5: point in this chapter, he's like kind of more that
- 26:32Speaker 5: guy than he is you know, only average like twelve
- 26:35Speaker 5: yards per target last year in terms of air yards,
- 26:38Speaker 5: Like it's not a downfield you know, Alec Pierce type
- 26:42Speaker 5: of receiver anymore. That's not the type of guy you're getting,
- 26:45Speaker 5: but that's kind of the kind of the guy they need,
- 26:47Speaker 5: Like they need to replace Diggs, and I think aj
- 26:49Speaker 5: Brown at this stage is kind of replacing Diggs.
- 26:52Speaker 4: And I do feel that was a pretty dysfunctional passing
- 26:55Speaker 4: game very much, so, you know, so much so that
- 26:57Speaker 4: the guy he was a one and done as a
- 26:59Speaker 4: coordinator they moved on I think down here too. Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 4: I mean, I for whatever it was, whether it was
- 27:05Speaker 4: scheme related, I know Hurts gets a lot of the
- 27:07Speaker 4: blame for the sort of malaise in the locker room.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I guess, you know, he rubs a lot of people
- 27:14Speaker 4: the wrong way, But just overall, I thought there was
- 27:17Speaker 4: a dysfunction to the passing game that was apparent when
- 27:21Speaker 4: you watch them play. It was like AJ Brown would
- 27:24Speaker 4: complain or you know, not even complain loudly. He would
- 27:29Speaker 4: sulk and be upset. In the next game, it'd be
- 27:32Speaker 4: like eleven targets in the first half, Like it was
- 27:34Speaker 4: so blatantly obvious. What yeah, you know, reactions were. So
- 27:39Speaker 4: I do have some faith that in a better system
- 27:42Speaker 4: with Josh and you know, maybe a more polished passer
- 27:47Speaker 4: shall we say with Drake May that you might see
- 27:50Speaker 4: a little bit more of the old AJ Brown as
- 27:51Speaker 4: opposed to what we saw last year.
- 27:53Speaker 5: I just loved the idea of moving him around, Like
- 27:55Speaker 5: I think Philly really glued him to the boundary and
- 27:57Speaker 5: it basically was like a slant or it was a
- 28:00Speaker 5: go route and there is no in between of what
- 28:02Speaker 5: they were kind of running with him, the little glimpses
- 28:04Speaker 5: of him running routes out of the slot, running routes
- 28:07Speaker 5: over the middle of the field, Like I feel like
- 28:10Speaker 5: that's the area that they didn't probably because it hurts.
- 28:13Speaker 5: He doesn't like to really throw the intermediate middle too much.
- 28:15Speaker 5: It's not an area that he throws a ton. Drake
- 28:19Speaker 5: May throws that area maybe more than any quarterback in
- 28:21Speaker 5: the league. So having somebody like that with Drake May
- 28:24Speaker 5: would be would be really good. But I still think
- 28:27Speaker 5: that you would need speed, Like I still think you're
- 28:30Speaker 5: kind of missing that sort of dimensionalist Kyle Williams really
- 28:34Speaker 5: takes a leap and becomes that guy, you still don't
- 28:37Speaker 5: have a whole lot of downfield speed, which is I
- 28:38Speaker 5: think what happened in Philly, Like I think Philly kind
- 28:40Speaker 5: of got bogged down where everything was kind of within
- 28:43Speaker 5: twenty yards the line of scrimmage.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I think that's kind of what I was seeing, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: that's you know, and that's when Paul brings up Brian
- 28:49Speaker 1: Thomas Junior. I know there's some risk with him, but yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 1: that explosiveness and that dynamic ability where a J.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Brown's a really strong player.
- 28:56Speaker 1: He's smart, he's savvy, he knows how to box out
- 28:58Speaker 1: on those little slants. But you know, is he pulling
- 29:01Speaker 1: away from people. He's probably more gonna plow over people
- 29:03Speaker 1: than pull away from people at this point.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Okay, what do you think of the price the Ravens
- 29:07Speaker 2: paid for Max Crosby? Oh?
- 29:09Speaker 7: Two first rounders?
- 29:10Speaker 5: Too much?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean too first and the third right or
- 29:13Speaker 2: something like that.
- 29:15Speaker 5: It's too I think it was two first. I think
- 29:18Speaker 5: it was too much. Like the Patriots, I don't know
- 29:20Speaker 5: how they could have gotten there, because they also they
- 29:22Speaker 5: got the fourteenth overall pick this year in the draft
- 29:25Speaker 5: and the first in twenty twenty seven. So the Patriots
- 29:27Speaker 5: first round pick this year is thirty one. So like
- 29:30Speaker 5: you're talking about having to add a lot on top
- 29:32Speaker 5: to try to get there. So I think that's why
- 29:34Speaker 5: the Patriots bout.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Out the Ravens like all in like kissed about twenty
- 29:40Speaker 2: twenty five and we're better than that and we're gonna
- 29:42Speaker 2: win it in twenty twenty six.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I mean, we'll see. I mean, they're obviously changing their
- 29:46Speaker 1: coaching staff. You know, I saw a Lohai Gilman sign
- 29:49Speaker 1: with I think the Chiefs, so.
- 29:50Speaker 4: He was They've I believe they've lost seven free agents,
- 29:53Speaker 4: are there?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:53Speaker 1: I mean they had no pass rush last year, so
- 29:56Speaker 1: I mean you talk about that's why they brought in Jones,
- 29:59Speaker 1: you know, to try to sparkd at. She sacked Drake
- 30:02Speaker 1: me for both teams he played for. But I don't
- 30:04Speaker 1: know how it comes back together. It feels like they
- 30:06Speaker 1: kind of blew it up a little bit. They brought
- 30:07Speaker 1: in Crosby. No question, Kyle Hamilton's a really talented player,
- 30:10Speaker 1: but again like they had to bring in a third
- 30:12Speaker 1: safety to kind of make him maximize, you know, wrote
- 30:16Speaker 1: Rokwan Smith.
- 30:17Speaker 7: Is he still the same level? We'll see, We'll see.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I mean, I ultimately it just kind of probably comes
- 30:20Speaker 1: down to Lamar and what level is.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Tough because they they're top half of the roster, like
- 30:26Speaker 5: their top five guys are as good as anybody in
- 30:29Speaker 5: the NFL, like Lamar Jackson, Kyle Hamilton, Max Crosby, like
- 30:34Speaker 5: those are some heavy, heavy hitters. But now they don't
- 30:36Speaker 5: have first round picks, and they've lost a lot of
- 30:39Speaker 5: their depth this offseason with guys that have left in
- 30:41Speaker 5: free agency, So like, how do you go about kind
- 30:44Speaker 5: of the middle class thing? Right, Like, how do you
- 30:46Speaker 5: go about supplementing the roster with depth? Because I'll put
- 30:50Speaker 5: their top five against anybody's top five, like they have
- 30:53Speaker 5: that good top end talent, but I don't know about
- 30:55Speaker 5: the depth on the ruck.
- 30:56Speaker 4: I like the trade, but I am what Evan's talking about,
- 31:00Speaker 4: Mike's talking about, to me is relevant because if they're
- 31:02Speaker 4: going to just do this cheap owner thing and just say, well,
- 31:06Speaker 4: we made that trade so now we can't resign any
- 31:08Speaker 4: of our guys and we're going to let the roster deteriorate,
- 31:11Speaker 4: then to me, it's treading water. It's a great player
- 31:15Speaker 4: that you get. I don't think two first round picks
- 31:17Speaker 4: is out of the you know, I don't don't listen,
- 31:22Speaker 4: it's a lot. I'm not telling you that two first
- 31:24Speaker 4: round picks isn't a lot. But that's what great players cost.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I mean, Micah Parson's a little younger. But you just saw,
- 31:30Speaker 4: you know what Green Bay was willing to give up.
- 31:33Speaker 4: This is a difference making player. But if you're just
- 31:36Speaker 4: going to let everybody go and say, well, we have
- 31:39Speaker 4: to pay this because it's not an exorbitant contract either,
- 31:42Speaker 4: I mean, it's just a regular contract.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 4: So I think it's a good trade. The individual transaction,
- 31:49Speaker 4: I would say, is a good trade for both teams.
- 31:51Speaker 4: I think it's a good trade for Baltimore. But I'm
- 31:53Speaker 4: not sure, you know, it's going to end up being
- 31:55Speaker 4: as good for them as they think, because they're just
- 31:58Speaker 4: going to let like the you know, the Lin Bombs
- 32:00Speaker 4: and the Gilman's and you know all these other guys.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Just watched Charlie Kohler. They lost their blocking tight end.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Charlie Kohler, Isaiah Likely. You know, you lose two tight ends,
- 32:10Speaker 4: you know, for a team that uses multiple tight ends
- 32:12Speaker 4: a lot.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Now they are a great drafting team, yep, and they have.
- 32:17Speaker 4: A great drafting developed.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Now they don't, but they don't have a first round pick.
- 32:21Speaker 2: David Main writes, and it says, you guys are nuts.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Patriots fans can talk themselves into anything. They cut their
- 32:28Speaker 2: best receiver with seemingly no real plan. Be Diggs was
- 32:31Speaker 2: the go to guy for Drake and that's hard to replace.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Even if Diggs took a step back next year, I
- 32:35Speaker 2: still think you'd be their best receiver. I know twenty
- 32:37Speaker 2: million buys a lot of fullbacks, but they need to
- 32:40Speaker 2: avoid giving Drake may the mac Jones treatment. I hope
- 32:43Speaker 2: they make a trade for a star wide receiver because
- 32:45Speaker 2: as of right now, this building team is worse than
- 32:48Speaker 2: the year before.
- 32:50Speaker 4: I'm just going to speak for myself. I didn't like
- 32:52Speaker 4: the decision to cut Digs without anybody to replace him.
- 32:57Speaker 4: If it ends up being that, I will not like it.
- 33:00Speaker 4: So I don't know. Like we talked about Digs last
- 33:04Speaker 4: week when the word came out that he I have
- 33:06Speaker 4: no problem moving on from him, but I need someone
- 33:09Speaker 4: at least as good as him, and I personally need
- 33:12Speaker 4: something else in addition to that, I need someone who's
- 33:15Speaker 4: as good as Digs plus something else. Yeah, is what
- 33:18Speaker 4: I would like for the wide receiver, court or past.
- 33:20Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 33:21Speaker 5: That's why I said what I said off the top
- 33:23Speaker 5: of the show. Like it just it feels incomplete right now,
- 33:26Speaker 5: like until they get that move done in some capacity,
- 33:29Speaker 5: and I get it. I get it from a fan
- 33:32Speaker 5: perspective that if they wait to pick it at thirty one, like,
- 33:35Speaker 5: you're not going to feel great about that because of
- 33:37Speaker 5: their history. Whether that's fair or not to Mike Rabel
- 33:39Speaker 5: who hasn't been here or not, the honest truth is
- 33:43Speaker 5: is that they haven't hit on a wide receiver ever really,
- 33:46Speaker 5: so like, yeah, that's it's on the.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Other end of that, Barton Poland says, we have an
- 33:51Speaker 2: incredibly overreacting fan base. Let's not let the last year
- 33:55Speaker 2: fool us. Good teams usually don't build through free agency.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Players hit free agency for a reason more often than not.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Fore agency is for filling holes, adding depth, and occasionally
- 34:05Speaker 2: making a splash signing, not for building an entire roster overnight.
- 34:08Speaker 2: But apparently because we didn't sign Alec Pierce for forty
- 34:11Speaker 2: million a year or trade five first round picks for
- 34:14Speaker 2: Justin Jefferson in the first three hours of free agency,
- 34:17Speaker 2: were suddenly doomed and might as well not even show
- 34:19Speaker 2: up for the season, trade Drake May and start the
- 34:21Speaker 2: arch madness movement.
- 34:24Speaker 4: I don't know what I is twenty nine.
- 34:25Speaker 1: They get more enjoyment out of like last year when
- 34:28Speaker 1: they signed a bunch of guys and everybody was having
- 34:30Speaker 1: the Super Bowl parade at this on Tuesday of free agency.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And this year they kind of did what you know,
- 34:35Speaker 1: usually teams do, plug some holes. They haven't made any
- 34:37Speaker 1: big moves yet, but you know, now we're we're on
- 34:39Speaker 1: the other end of the roller coaster.
- 34:40Speaker 4: So yeah, and I think I do think that there's
- 34:43Speaker 4: some truth to what Bart was saying with the fan base,
- 34:46Speaker 4: but I did not sense there being like a tremendous
- 34:49Speaker 4: amount of gloom and doom. I think people are disappointed
- 34:54Speaker 4: and underwhelmed so far, but I think coming off the
- 34:58Speaker 4: Super Bowl, in all the work it did last year,
- 35:01Speaker 4: I think has mitigated that a little bit. I don't know,
- 35:03Speaker 4: maybe you guys seen more than I.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I mean, obviously, the hysteria on Twitter is not really
- 35:07Speaker 5: the best barometer of, you know, how the fan base
- 35:11Speaker 5: really feels. It's a very specific group of people, but
- 35:15Speaker 5: this all stems back for most people until they sign
- 35:18Speaker 5: a wide receiver or trade for a wide receiver. This
- 35:20Speaker 5: is how a lot of people are gonna feel. Yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 5: and like what are there? I agree with Bart, Like
- 35:24Speaker 5: I said before, Left Guard was in need, Edge was
- 35:28Speaker 5: in need. Full back was maybe a smaller need, but
- 35:31Speaker 5: still a need, but especially at edge and left guard.
- 35:34Speaker 5: Like now, when you're sitting at thirty one, you don't
- 35:36Speaker 5: need to take the eighth best edge rusher because you
- 35:39Speaker 5: don't have any edge rushers. Now you have guys that
- 35:42Speaker 5: are NFL caliber players. Draymond Jones, Anthony Jennings, maybe Elijah Ponder,
- 35:47Speaker 5: Harold Landry, like those guys can at least play for you,
- 35:50Speaker 5: and you can be relatively good defensively with those guys
- 35:53Speaker 5: out there. That's how they've gotten themselves into trouble in
- 35:56Speaker 5: the past is when they get to the draft and
- 35:58Speaker 5: they just have a glaring hole on the depth chart
- 36:01Speaker 5: where it's like, we have to draft this position right now,
- 36:03Speaker 5: that's probably wide receiver. And so if they trade for somebody,
- 36:07Speaker 5: then they have nothing, and then you get there and
- 36:09Speaker 5: you pick what's available at thirty one.
- 36:12Speaker 2: H Morgan in Vermont, Margan says, I have two points,
- 36:16Speaker 2: and I'll hang up and listen. Am I in the
- 36:18Speaker 2: twilight zone. Everywhere I look, people are going crazy for this.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Draymond Jones signing. He's thirty years old and has averaged
- 36:25Speaker 2: twenty five tackles in around four STAPs a year. I
- 36:28Speaker 2: don't get the hype. I guess I'm fine with him
- 36:30Speaker 2: as a rotational player, but I really hate this signing.
- 36:33Speaker 2: If it's him over Chase On, how much are they
- 36:36Speaker 2: planning and getting key starters from the draft again this year?
- 36:38Speaker 2: All I'm seeing is more and more holes being created
- 36:41Speaker 2: on this roster and no really solid signing to a
- 36:43Speaker 2: dress holes we have besides full back, Apparently we've got
- 36:46Speaker 2: three of those stop releasing players. Elliott Well, I Well
- 36:51Speaker 2: left Guard I think is a good signing.
- 36:54Speaker 7: I mean, the digs app like created a need for sure.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But you know, I agree with what he's saying about
- 37:00Speaker 1: about Jones, and I hope that I didn't hype him
- 37:02Speaker 1: up too much.
- 37:02Speaker 7: I felt like he's part of a rotation.
- 37:04Speaker 1: But I still think you need Chase On and I'd
- 37:05Speaker 1: still love to grab one of these rookies and then
- 37:08Speaker 1: you see what happens with Landry. You've got four kind
- 37:11Speaker 1: of guys with a rookie and Elijah Ponder to see
- 37:13Speaker 1: what he comes back. So really it's you know, five
- 37:15Speaker 1: guys that you're looking at for three spots that are going.
- 37:17Speaker 5: To play if they if they, because like the email,
- 37:21Speaker 5: are like I'm just gonna like sacks and tackles for
- 37:24Speaker 5: edg rushers. It's like we we we have better ways
- 37:27Speaker 5: to look at it now, right, Like if you look
- 37:29Speaker 5: at pass rush win weight pressure rate, like him and
- 37:33Speaker 5: Chase On are even. I think they're pretty much even
- 37:36Speaker 5: in sacks too, if you take out Chaseon's playoff performance,
- 37:39Speaker 5: which obviously was four games extra that he played.
- 37:41Speaker 4: At seven, right, Yeah, like you know, right around seven
- 37:44Speaker 4: sacks I think last year seven and seven seven I think,
- 37:48Speaker 4: and I think Chason had seven and a half.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Yeah, So like we're talking about guys that were both
- 37:52Speaker 5: right around seven sacks, right around fifty pressures during the
- 37:55Speaker 5: regular season. So like they're kind of the same guy.
- 37:58Speaker 5: Like I was looking at all these lists, yes, and
- 38:00Speaker 5: it's like a lot of them are like Draymond Jones
- 38:04Speaker 5: is like player X, and then Chase On's right above
- 38:07Speaker 5: or below him, Like it's right in the same ballpark.
- 38:09Speaker 5: So if it's if they are not going to resign
- 38:12Speaker 5: Chase On, let's just say and Draymond Jones and Chase
- 38:15Speaker 5: On are kind of one for one replacements, and then
- 38:17Speaker 5: they're gonna do something produced by drafting an edge guy
- 38:20Speaker 5: at thirty one, like, like, that's that's the move, right, Like,
- 38:24Speaker 5: I don't know how many more edge guys you really needed.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I think they've really I mean Diggs was a huge release,
- 38:30Speaker 4: but they haven't really released many guys, have they.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I mean maybe he's maybe talk well, that's not a
- 38:36Speaker 1: real I mean, that's a free agent who signed somewhere else.
- 38:38Speaker 4: I mean, that's not the same as releasing.
- 38:40Speaker 1: The only other thing I can think of where we've
- 38:42Speaker 1: opened up a need that maybe you didn't have. I mean,
- 38:45Speaker 1: and you knew you might have it because you knew
- 38:47Speaker 1: Tonga might. But otherwise I think I mean Tevin's point,
- 38:50Speaker 1: all three guys they signed were all needs, and I
- 38:52Speaker 1: mean two of them were the main positions we talked about.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Rick and Riverside Rhode Island. I give the Patriots
- 39:00Speaker 2: an a for Day one. They added three starters without overpaying.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Pierce would have been nice, but he chose family and
- 39:05Speaker 2: his decision to stay in Indye. I don't believe we
- 39:07Speaker 2: lost any game changes in free agency this draft. The
- 39:10Speaker 2: Patriots are not drafting for immediate need like the last
- 39:13Speaker 2: couple of years, so they should be able to get
- 39:15Speaker 2: the best player available when it comes to their time
- 39:17Speaker 2: to pick.
- 39:19Speaker 4: I think the draft take is there.
- 39:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I see.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how you feel out, but
- 39:24Speaker 1: as it's come together for me, I feel a little
- 39:26Speaker 1: bit like the receiver and edge positions are kind of
- 39:28Speaker 1: connected at a thirty one spot where there might be
- 39:30Speaker 1: a run on some receivers right around there, or there
- 39:32Speaker 1: might be a run on some edge guys and one
- 39:34Speaker 1: of those positions could possibly get pushed.
- 39:36Speaker 2: I think we all agree we still want a receiver.
- 39:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I think they need to. I mean I think
- 39:40Speaker 7: they need to or a tight end.
- 39:42Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, whichever way you want.
- 39:45Speaker 4: We need be still available.
- 39:46Speaker 2: We need we need viable weapons for Drake Man.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I keep bringing them up.
- 39:51Speaker 5: I know, if you have a like, let's just call
- 39:55Speaker 5: him a wide receiver again, maybe I'll feel a little
- 39:57Speaker 5: bit better about it.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know how they how they divvy it up,
- 40:00Speaker 1: but you know, two wide receivers in the second tight
- 40:03Speaker 1: end somehow, and and you know, hopefully maybe one of
- 40:05Speaker 1: those guys is a rookie.
- 40:06Speaker 7: I mean, I don't even.
- 40:07Speaker 5: To hold two wide receivers like they already bring him
- 40:10Speaker 5: back Kyle Kyle Williams Ki Shawn Booty, Matt Collins, Pop Douglas. Now,
- 40:14Speaker 5: maybe you're thinking Booty and popped up.
- 40:17Speaker 4: That's right, You're welcome friends.
- 40:22Speaker 5: You know, maybe you're thinking long term about Booty and
- 40:24Speaker 5: Pop Douglas and if they're going to be here past
- 40:26Speaker 5: twenty six. But like, how many guys are you going
- 40:29Speaker 5: to roster, and like how many opportunities are you going
- 40:31Speaker 5: to give guys if you bring in, if you trade
- 40:35Speaker 5: for a big time receiver, you're not probably then also
- 40:38Speaker 5: going to draft a draft a receiver in the top
- 40:40Speaker 5: one hundred. It's just too many now's to feed, Like
- 40:43Speaker 5: you're only gonna have carry six. So well, unless you're
- 40:47Speaker 5: moving somebody out, yes, you're already kind of moving digs out.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Though theoretically if you if you so you trade for
- 40:54Speaker 4: a J. Brown and draft somebody in the top hundred,
- 40:57Speaker 4: so that maybe makes Douglas expendable. Sure, you know, maybe
- 41:02Speaker 4: you can get you know, a late round pick or
- 41:04Speaker 4: whatever a pick swap.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Can you get for Booty?
- 41:07Speaker 4: Late round pickswap? I mean that's I mean, that's what
- 41:09Speaker 4: you're looking for. Like those guys are going into the
- 41:12Speaker 4: last years of the deals. I think you kind of
- 41:14Speaker 4: know what they are at this point, or.
- 41:16Speaker 5: Maybe I've been saying to put Kaishon Booty in the trade,
- 41:19Speaker 5: and that's not no disrespect to Kaishan Bush. Sure, but
- 41:22Speaker 5: if you're trading for aj Brown or if you're trading
- 41:25Speaker 5: for Chris Olave or Brian Thomas junior, like those teams
- 41:27Speaker 5: need a playable outside receiver, like they're going to need
- 41:31Speaker 5: to replace those players with something. Yeah, and like can
- 41:34Speaker 5: Kaishan Boudi be a sweetener as you know, a replacement
- 41:38Speaker 5: for the player that they're dealing out. I just think,
- 41:40Speaker 5: you know, tight end to me has a more immediate
- 41:43Speaker 5: path to playing time. Like if you draft a young
- 41:45Speaker 5: tight end in the top one hundred that has some
- 41:48Speaker 5: receiving upside, I feel like there's a clearer path, especially
- 41:51Speaker 5: now with Austin Hooper gone, for that guy to actually
- 41:54Speaker 5: play as a rookie. Whereas if you're drafting another guy
- 41:56Speaker 5: in the second third round at receiver, he's going to
- 41:59Speaker 5: be behind them.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Maybe it goes to what Vrabel said at the combine,
- 42:01Speaker 1: which was he likes this tight end class. So maybe
- 42:04Speaker 1: they are kind of looking at that. Maybe you'll see
- 42:06Speaker 1: a later free agency signing. But no, I just look
- 42:08Speaker 1: at the three wide receivers next year who.
- 42:10Speaker 7: Are free agents.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Let's just say you get AJ Brown, you get to
- 42:13Speaker 1: next year, you've got AJ Brown and who's thirty years old,
- 42:17Speaker 1: and you've got to make some decisions. So Kyle Williams
- 42:20Speaker 1: huge player for me this year. If he's able to
- 42:22Speaker 1: ascend and kind of take on that role, I think
- 42:24Speaker 1: would be great. I just I still look at it's
- 42:27Speaker 1: going to be a position, a long term need. I'd
- 42:29Speaker 1: love to get the guys in place that are going
- 42:30Speaker 1: to be Drake's guys going forward.
- 42:32Speaker 5: That depends on how they look at Kyle Williams, and
- 42:33Speaker 5: only they can answer that question. Like if they really
- 42:36Speaker 5: feel like he can take that next step, then you
- 42:38Speaker 5: don't want to block him by adding multiple receivers. If
- 42:42Speaker 5: you feel like you we're not sure, then yeah, I.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Just really wonder about Pop too, Like it's just you know,
- 42:49Speaker 1: somebody we talked about all last year about how does
- 42:51Speaker 1: he fit? And then it felt like for a short
- 42:53Speaker 1: while he found downfield ability to make plays. We're all
- 42:58Speaker 1: expecting him to be the quick underneath guy and that's
- 43:00Speaker 1: just not really his game. At times, it looked like
- 43:03Speaker 1: he wasn't going to the right spot now I just
- 43:05Speaker 1: wonder what's the desire of the team to either have
- 43:08Speaker 1: a guy like Pop or even Chisholm. You know, like,
- 43:11Speaker 1: is Chisholm maybe a little bit quicker underneath? Does that
- 43:13Speaker 1: give him opportunities that don't exist for I don't know.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I don't know anything about either of those guys.
- 43:17Speaker 2: I would love to There's a few guys that fall
- 43:20Speaker 2: in that category of I love to know what they
- 43:22Speaker 2: think about that, Kyle Williams, Chisholm and Marcus Bryant, Like,
- 43:26Speaker 2: what do they think of him? Is do they think
- 43:28Speaker 2: at some day he could be a starter, you.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Know, or at least a swing tackle. But you know,
- 43:33Speaker 5: and I think the Vederian low thing kind of came
- 43:35Speaker 5: down to the fact that he was kind of only
- 43:37Speaker 5: a left side player, and so there wasn't a ton
- 43:40Speaker 5: of versatility for him to flip to the right based
- 43:42Speaker 5: off of the past at least, you know, when he
- 43:44Speaker 5: played right, he really struggled. So you know, maybe Marcus
- 43:48Speaker 5: Bryant can be a little bit more versatile and give
- 43:49Speaker 5: you a true swing tackle as a third tackle instead
- 43:52Speaker 5: of just kind of a backup to Will Campbell at
- 43:55Speaker 5: left tackle, which is what Darien Loan them.
- 43:56Speaker 7: Then Josh Farmer got married. Actually, oh last weekend each other?
- 44:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 44:00Speaker 4: Good?
- 44:02Speaker 5: We should.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I think it was Dove Climb and did like a
- 44:07Speaker 1: post where it was like Josh Farmer and uh it wasn't.
- 44:11Speaker 7: Marcus Brian both got married. The got married this weekend
- 44:13Speaker 7: and it it pictures them like kind of looking at
- 44:14Speaker 7: each other and like what.
- 44:15Speaker 10: Is going on?
- 44:16Speaker 7: But now it wasn't to each other?
- 44:18Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the hot line.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Let's see what people have to say on the hotline.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Herms in DC, what's up?
- 44:24Speaker 11: Herm Hey, what's going on?
- 44:26Speaker 2: Till Man?
- 44:27Speaker 11: Hey, Hey, so I turned for you on Saturday and
- 44:33Speaker 11: I promised myself to be a little more patient in life.
- 44:37Speaker 11: Right but obviously Dick, well, so Dick feel released. It's
- 44:41Speaker 11: not ideal. I didn't I didn't love to move, but
- 44:44Speaker 11: like I said, well, like Evan actually said, it's still
- 44:47Speaker 11: incomplete right as far as like you know, four years
- 44:50Speaker 11: and goos and acquisitions. A question to you guys, is
- 44:54Speaker 11: this right? I personally will be I will be shocked
- 44:59Speaker 11: if Aged Brown actually landing in New England. I just
- 45:03Speaker 11: I mean, I'll be my mouth will be on the floor. Well,
- 45:06Speaker 11: that being said, the probability and my opinion being raptively
- 45:09Speaker 11: low for him to be in New England. What a
- 45:14Speaker 11: realistic alternative to replace that productivity? Right, considering we just
- 45:21Speaker 11: I don't know a while, but we just let this
- 45:22Speaker 11: go down the receiver, right, So where do you go?
- 45:27Speaker 11: And I guess spacific place. Do you guys would have
- 45:29Speaker 11: a mon that could replace a predictavit?
- 45:31Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 45:31Speaker 2: All right, thanks herm.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I mean, Paul, you want Thomas, but I like Brian Thomas. Yeah,
- 45:37Speaker 4: I think this' you know, he had the great rookie
- 45:40Speaker 4: year and evidently did not mesh well with the new
- 45:44Speaker 4: offense last year in Jacksonville. They ended up making a
- 45:48Speaker 4: couple of moves. Liam Cohen sort of got Jacoby Myers
- 45:51Speaker 4: at the deadline, and then all of a sudden, Parker
- 45:54Speaker 4: Washington really emerged and the offense took off and it
- 45:57Speaker 4: looked like Thomas was a little bit more of an afterthought.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Definitely had some problems like over the middle not he
- 46:05Speaker 4: had a lot of drops. I mean, call it what
- 46:07Speaker 4: it is. He didn't play well, but he fell out
- 46:09Speaker 4: of favor and to me, I think it's ridiculous that
- 46:12Speaker 4: they would give up on a guy who showed as
- 46:15Speaker 4: much promise as he did two years ago, you know,
- 46:17Speaker 4: and you know, on a rookie deal. But it looks
- 46:21Speaker 4: like I mean, if I think there was a report
- 46:24Speaker 4: out of New York, it was s N Y and
- 46:26Speaker 4: New York reported that he is available, but the Jaguars
- 46:30Speaker 4: are actively taking taking offers on him. I think there's
- 46:34Speaker 4: there's some ability there. Though he had a really good
- 46:37Speaker 4: game against in London against the Patriots two years ago
- 46:40Speaker 4: as a rookie. Again, I would, I would.
- 46:44Speaker 2: But none of these guys I would like the level
- 46:46Speaker 2: of Diggs.
- 46:47Speaker 4: You know, I think I think he absolutely could.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I think, yeah, two years ago, I think you're looking
- 46:53Speaker 1: at two guys with the different sides of the hill.
- 46:55Speaker 1: You know, It's like Brian Thomas your hope and it's
- 46:57Speaker 1: still headed up the hill and Diggs is maybe.
- 46:58Speaker 5: Different players sure, Like I think the reason why Brian
- 47:02Speaker 5: Thomas schematic like he's an ISO receiver, Like he's the
- 47:05Speaker 5: type of guy that you want to get one on
- 47:06Speaker 5: one on the outside and let him run vertical routes,
- 47:09Speaker 5: you know, against Christian Gonzales in London, right running right
- 47:12Speaker 5: by guys. And I think that offensive Liam Cohene is
- 47:15Speaker 5: out of the Shanahan Tree, and it's a lot of
- 47:17Speaker 5: catch and run over the middle and you know, crossing
- 47:20Speaker 5: routes and play action and all that kind of stuff.
- 47:23Speaker 5: It's a little bit different of a system than you know,
- 47:25Speaker 5: what he ran at LSU, which is just spread you know,
- 47:29Speaker 5: Jayden Daniels and the gun. We're gonna spread my leak
- 47:31Speaker 5: neighbors and Brian Thomas Junior out whoever has the one
- 47:34Speaker 5: on one where bombs away. You know, that feels a
- 47:37Speaker 5: lot more like the Patriots passing game with Drake May
- 47:40Speaker 5: than it does what they're doing in Jacksonville. So I
- 47:43Speaker 5: think it's a great fit if they can get him
- 47:45Speaker 5: out of there. I just don't know why it would
- 47:47Speaker 5: worry me that there's more to it than.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Just me too.
- 47:50Speaker 5: It's a bad scheme fit because there was some evidence
- 47:52Speaker 5: with him on film that he was kind of dogging
- 47:55Speaker 5: some routes and like not. You know, the effort wasn't
- 47:57Speaker 5: always great drops.
- 47:59Speaker 4: You know, he was decision He was at odds with
- 48:02Speaker 4: Cohen a lot. Yeah, during the course of the season,
- 48:05Speaker 4: and that does that is in the back of my mind,
- 48:07Speaker 4: Like Liam Cohen clearly showed that he had something to
- 48:13Speaker 4: offer as a coach with a you know, pretty quick
- 48:15Speaker 4: turnaround of a bad team. Why is he so you know,
- 48:20Speaker 4: willing to part ways with a guy who clearly has
- 48:23Speaker 4: the ability.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Danny's in Tampa. What's up, Danny?
- 48:27Speaker 6: Hey, how's it going?
- 48:28Speaker 9: Guys?
- 48:30Speaker 12: Hey?
- 48:31Speaker 6: So, I like all the tikes that everyone's saying so far,
- 48:34Speaker 6: I'm pretty good the picks that they've made so far,
- 48:37Speaker 6: I mean, they're they're decent.
- 48:39Speaker 9: They filled some spots.
- 48:41Speaker 6: One key thing I'd hit that I think that everyone's
- 48:44Speaker 6: saying is, yeah, I agree with Paul and everything. Why
- 48:47Speaker 6: would you release Digs not have a plan. It kind
- 48:50Speaker 6: of seems like the trend that the Patriots have been
- 48:52Speaker 6: doing over the last few years is they get rid
- 48:54Speaker 6: of what Bill used to do, get rid of a player.
- 48:56Speaker 6: Sometimes he wouldn't have an idea and we're all scratching
- 48:58Speaker 6: our head, like what does Bill doing? And maybe he's
- 49:01Speaker 6: got some genius. But then they did that would draw
- 49:03Speaker 6: on and now Mike's here. But I trust Mike. You know,
- 49:08Speaker 6: I'm not too sure what they're doing so far. But
- 49:11Speaker 6: one thing I think they should do is that would
- 49:12Speaker 6: solve some issues. Is he will keep bringing up bringing
- 49:16Speaker 6: David and Joki to the tight end if he's still available.
- 49:19Speaker 6: Since they missed out on that Isaiah likely Sweet stakes
- 49:23Speaker 6: since he went to the Giants, I'd bring in a Joku.
- 49:25Speaker 6: I think they also missed out on Kate Odten from
- 49:28Speaker 6: the Bucks. They should draft the new tight end because
- 49:31Speaker 6: I don't like Jack Westover and just punter Henry. He's
- 49:35Speaker 6: declined easy years since he's since he's been with the Patriots.
- 49:38Speaker 6: He hasn't had a really good seasons since his first
- 49:41Speaker 6: contract with Patriots. So I would bring in Djoku draft
- 49:45Speaker 6: the tight end to fix that. No one's really talking
- 49:47Speaker 6: a lot about the Titan. They keep talking about the
- 49:49Speaker 6: receiver spot, and I think the way Josh runs his offense,
- 49:52Speaker 6: you really need good tight ends. And I would not
- 49:55Speaker 6: want to roll in with Jack Westover and Hunter Henry.
- 49:57Speaker 12: That is not good.
- 49:58Speaker 5: They're doing that.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Thanks Danny, they got it.
- 50:01Speaker 5: They got a lot there. They'll make some moves at
- 50:04Speaker 5: tight end for sure.
- 50:05Speaker 4: And I liked Djoku. I just he's a little older, Yeah,
- 50:11Speaker 4: but I do like the player and as a second
- 50:14Speaker 4: tight end, pretty athletic. I think they could find someone
- 50:18Speaker 4: younger though I think he.
- 50:19Speaker 5: Can still play all right.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Spring is sprung too.
- 50:22Speaker 2: It has sprung finally melting around here. Huh. Yes, yesterday

- 52:58Speaker 12: Absolutely glad to be.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I got to start off with your mock draft because
- 53:02Speaker 1: so many Patriots fans right now they're like edge class
- 53:04Speaker 1: and you know they got a couple tackle people. But
- 53:06Speaker 1: you came through with Caleb Banks, a giant penetrating defensive lineman,
- 53:11Speaker 1: which I'm kind of the defense guy.
- 53:13Speaker 7: I love the defense.
- 53:13Speaker 1: And I saw that, I was like, hey, I know
- 53:15Speaker 1: we had some of these, but sign me up for that.
- 53:17Speaker 1: What did you see in him that that made you
- 53:19Speaker 1: going to the Patriots?
- 53:20Speaker 12: What I watched his film and when I tracked all
- 53:22Speaker 12: of the data that kind of matches strategies. He's a rabel.
- 53:26Speaker 12: He like like it's like he's a Rabel. It's kind
- 53:30Speaker 12: of easy to see, right, Yeah, well, and the numbers
- 53:32Speaker 12: are pretty like the good news about Mike Rabel is
- 53:35Speaker 12: that you know exactly what the strategy is going to be.
- 53:38Speaker 12: And that's that means like the fit is easier to find, right, Like,
- 53:43Speaker 12: that's great. Is clarity is great and sticking to a
- 53:45Speaker 12: plan is even greater, which I think some people have
- 53:47Speaker 12: clarity and then they're like, yeah, yeah, no, I'm going
- 53:49Speaker 12: to make this thing fit my back into my narrative.
- 53:52Speaker 12: That's what it doesn't what Rabel does. That's not what
- 53:54Speaker 12: Rabel does. He does the opposite of that. So it
- 53:56Speaker 12: just felt like that was the one. You're like, well,
- 53:59Speaker 12: this job here is done.
- 54:00Speaker 4: It makes sense.
- 54:01Speaker 1: I said, we're talking to a bunch of people this week,
- 54:03Speaker 1: and it was you know, Rabel came in and he's like,
- 54:05Speaker 1: this is the style we want to play with effort
- 54:06Speaker 1: and finish. And as soon as we saw them starting
- 54:08Speaker 1: to play, especially on the defensive side of the ball,
- 54:10Speaker 1: You're like, okay, I get it, and now we'll start
- 54:12Speaker 1: the scouting process. And I'm like, yep, Rabel, Rabel, you know,
- 54:15Speaker 1: these are rable guys. Plays with his hair on fire,
- 54:18Speaker 1: but i't want to ask you a little different for
- 54:19Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yeah, we've been up at the top of
- 54:21Speaker 1: the draft the last few years. Who saw last year coming?
- 54:23Speaker 1: Not even us here on the inside.
- 54:25Speaker 12: But I'm like obsessed with your I went to b
- 54:27Speaker 12: C accent Is. I'm like obsessed with a little bit.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I'm like it.
- 54:31Speaker 12: I'm like, keep talking.
- 54:32Speaker 1: About I want to have a couple of drinks. Then
- 54:34Speaker 1: it comes out even more.
- 54:34Speaker 5: But we're not there.
- 54:35Speaker 11: We're not there.
- 54:38Speaker 1: But you know, I feel like when you're at the
- 54:39Speaker 1: bottom of the first round, you're waiting to see who
- 54:42Speaker 1: might fall through the cracks. And I do love this
- 54:45Speaker 1: edge class, So I feel like we got to talk
- 54:46Speaker 1: a little bit about it. Any of those guys you
- 54:48Speaker 1: see that you think rable guy, so he.
- 54:52Speaker 12: Won't he won't be available where you're picking. But I
- 54:55Speaker 12: think Cashastowel is a rable guy. The one cool thing,
- 54:59Speaker 12: or there's a lot of cool things about him, but
- 55:01Speaker 12: one of the coolest things about him is the fatigue factor.
- 55:04Speaker 12: So I've been measuring. I've been using the data to
- 55:07Speaker 12: see how often in the fourth quarter the guys get
- 55:10Speaker 12: tired versus the first quarter. So I need to like
- 55:13Speaker 12: rename it because it's a good thing to be low
- 55:15Speaker 12: and fatigue. But like that's clunky to say, So how
- 55:18Speaker 12: good are you at not being fatigued? Terrible English whatever.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Exhaustion quo or something that there we go sounds official.
- 55:25Speaker 12: Right, especially quotihit that really I don't really, I don't know,
- 55:29Speaker 12: I don't know. I agree, but that the point is
- 55:31Speaker 12: is Cassius Howell doesn't get tired. He does not have
- 55:35Speaker 12: that happen. I mean, Caleb Downs nowhere near, we're nowhere near,
- 55:38Speaker 12: y'all will have no chance at him. No offense, but
- 55:41Speaker 12: it's not like an offensive thing. But that kid, no, no,
- 55:46Speaker 12: no drop off, no way.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:47Speaker 12: So but Cassius Howel if he were somehow, if he
- 55:51Speaker 12: had some weird fall or whatever, that's a guy who
- 55:53Speaker 12: would be a rable guy.
- 55:54Speaker 1: Like our Mason Thomas too, a little bit places with
- 55:56Speaker 1: that kind of style, a little smaller kind of a guy.
- 55:58Speaker 1: But when you look over all the regardless of patriots
- 56:00Speaker 1: or anything, are there any guys that just you were like,
- 56:02Speaker 1: I love this guy. I think he came down easy
- 56:05Speaker 1: to love him.
- 56:06Speaker 12: Yeah, So I'm I'm all in on Caleb Downs now.
- 56:08Speaker 12: I also I studied this is ridiculous, But I spent
- 56:11Speaker 12: a lot of my master's degree studying offensive linemen because
- 56:15Speaker 12: somebody once told me there was nothing that I could
- 56:18Speaker 12: teach them about.
- 56:19Speaker 4: Whatever it was.
- 56:20Speaker 15: It was.
- 56:21Speaker 12: Right now, No, not going to arm length, but no,
- 56:24Speaker 12: I feel like I'm right now. I'm very excited about
- 56:28Speaker 12: seeing how Fransis Mawanoa interviews. I don't know anything about
- 56:32Speaker 12: his personality, but Miami tackle he should measure in around
- 56:36Speaker 12: sixty six sixty seven. Pretty interested to see because I
- 56:39Speaker 12: just think a lot of teams need a tackle, you know.
- 56:43Speaker 12: And by the way, I don't care about Will Campbell's arm.
- 56:45Speaker 12: I'd rather I'd rather want him to be playing with
- 56:48Speaker 12: like all of his uh ligaments intact. Nice, you know,
- 56:51Speaker 12: but I don't care about his arm. He was my
- 56:54Speaker 12: first pick.
- 56:55Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 56:56Speaker 12: I'm an analytics person. I can tell you I don't
- 56:58Speaker 12: care about his arms.
- 56:59Speaker 7: I'm gona talk about like you heard last year.
- 57:01Speaker 1: The second I heard him speak, I'm like, I want
- 57:03Speaker 1: to die for It's not that serious, too extreme.
- 57:08Speaker 12: Ratchet it down, just tiny it. But I get where
- 57:10Speaker 12: you're going with that. But like just less, I can.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Actually just going back to this year. I mean, you
- 57:14Speaker 1: have a national perspective and you're talking about this stuff
- 57:16Speaker 1: all the time. Just what was your perspective on this
- 57:18Speaker 1: Patriots scene this year. I know there was talk of
- 57:20Speaker 1: the schedule, but I mean Drake may runner up in
- 57:22Speaker 1: the MVP. I mean, like I said, not even the
- 57:24Speaker 1: people inside. I mean, we were all just taken aback
- 57:27Speaker 1: by how well he played and how it all came
- 57:29Speaker 1: together so quickly.
- 57:30Speaker 12: I think the quick is the part, like it made
- 57:33Speaker 12: complete sense, like all I I mean, Milton Williams, that
- 57:37Speaker 12: was such a smarting. But I love Bobby Spulane. Adding
- 57:40Speaker 12: Robert Spulane back to the team. I thought that was
- 57:43Speaker 12: low key, not talked about anywhere near as much as
- 57:47Speaker 12: it should have been. The run stop, like that's just
- 57:50Speaker 12: a that's a dude right there. But he's also I mean,
- 57:53Speaker 12: if you look at anything good that happened on the Raiders,
- 57:55Speaker 12: was like, oh, it's Robert Spelane, It's Bobby's splane, right,
- 57:58Speaker 12: so you're looking at that. And I thought even the
- 58:00Speaker 12: less premium free agent and I don't need to call
- 58:04Speaker 12: on that, but less expensive how about the less expensive
- 58:06Speaker 12: free agent acquisitions were really good too. Did I think
- 58:09Speaker 12: that this would be the year that they would go
- 58:11Speaker 12: to the Super Bowl. Nope. But I wasn't really surprised.
- 58:15Speaker 12: I do think it kind of the wheels fell off
- 58:17Speaker 12: a little bit with like injuries and trying to like
- 58:19Speaker 12: put some like duct tape.
- 58:21Speaker 7: On being one of those down the end, like you
- 58:23Speaker 7: need a little w D forty kid.
- 58:25Speaker 12: Okay, like, but I think that was but that could
- 58:27Speaker 12: happen to any team, So you know, it was just
- 58:30Speaker 12: an unfortunate circumstance. But you know, I thought I thought
- 58:34Speaker 12: it was going to be a good team. I don't.
- 58:36Speaker 12: I definitely didn't think it was a super Bowl team
- 58:37Speaker 12: now yet Yeah, well I thought it was a good rebuild.
- 58:40Speaker 1: And then we look at the schedule next year. I
- 58:41Speaker 1: mean it's like at Seattle, at Kansas City, at the Chargers.
- 58:44Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of tough games. What do
- 58:46Speaker 1: you feel like the strategy should be for this Patriots
- 58:48Speaker 1: team this year? I mean, you know, there's cries for
- 58:50Speaker 1: the number one. Everybody got to get that number one receiver.
- 58:53Speaker 1: You got to get one of the three best receivers.
- 58:54Speaker 1: And they you know, that's a big talking point, the
- 58:56Speaker 1: pressure with the edge rushers, but they talked David stablished
- 59:00Speaker 1: a core a foundation, they've got to continue to.
- 59:02Speaker 2: Build on it.
- 59:03Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on how do they approach the
- 59:05Speaker 1: expectations now after going to a super Bowl?
- 59:08Speaker 12: Can we just get like a can we just do
- 59:09Speaker 12: like a little more of a right tackle? I'm so mean,
- 59:12Speaker 12: I'm so mean. I just want to protect Drake May.
- 59:15Speaker 12: I think he's so special and has the potential to
- 59:18Speaker 12: be elite, elite. I will never crown a guy until
- 59:22Speaker 12: I've seen it. You know, even Patrick Mahomes after that
- 59:25Speaker 12: one amazing year, I wasn't like, I'm not ready to.
- 59:28Speaker 12: You got to give him three because then now everyone
- 59:30Speaker 12: will adjust and then can you adjust back? It seems
- 59:33Speaker 12: like Drake May will be fully capable of doing that.
- 59:36Speaker 12: But again, I still want to go ahead. I reserve
- 59:38Speaker 12: the word elite for the actual elite people, so by
- 59:41Speaker 12: definition it has to be very few. But he has
- 59:44Speaker 12: all sides point to that. So like pull out like
- 59:46Speaker 12: a like a little armored vehicle. Is there, who's the
- 59:50Speaker 12: most refrigerator like in this draft? Francis Moua, yeah, right,
- 59:53Speaker 12: let's put him anyways, but what long story short is that?
- 59:55Speaker 12: That to me is like focus on that. This team
- 59:59Speaker 12: has a lot of different opportunities to be successful. I
- 1:00:02Speaker 12: don't care how it looks. I don't care if it's
- 1:00:04Speaker 12: a number one wide receiver that's named like hottest wide
- 1:00:07Speaker 12: receiver the whole world, Like, it doesn't need to be that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 12: Aj Brown a fan. Okay, great, that'd be awesome, But
- 1:00:16Speaker 12: what is what are you giving up to get him?
- 1:00:19Speaker 12: Because if it's the right tackle, I'm going with that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 12: And I'm not trying to be MEANTERI right tackle. I
- 1:00:23Speaker 12: just think that, like I said, I want you well.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: It's more I mean, he's, you know, thirty four years old,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Morgan Moses. I mean, and yeah, usually the end of
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the first round that's where you might get a right tackle.
- 1:00:30Speaker 12: With I'm not like, no, I'm not throwing shade. I
- 1:00:33Speaker 12: just I want to give Drake May every single asset
- 1:00:36Speaker 12: to succeed because it was so great. And I'm like
- 1:00:38Speaker 12: a huge Hunter Henry Fan. Yeah, yeah, giant Hunter Henry
- 1:00:41Speaker 12: Fan did a service trip last year with him and
- 1:00:43Speaker 12: his wife and so the Herzlicks who were good BC kids,
- 1:00:48Speaker 12: and we went to you know, we went to Africa
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: and it was about anti human trafficking. So I would
- 1:00:53Speaker 12: really like Hunter Henry to have like like conservatively how
- 1:00:56Speaker 12: about twenty touchdowns?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Are you with that?
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: I think we could do that. I think comp that.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: And now great moments in history.
- 1:01:07Speaker 17: Yeah, well, what happened to the garoppolo porn star? Has
- 1:01:10Speaker 17: she made any headlines this week? I feel like she
- 1:01:12Speaker 17: would come out and go on a show this week
- 1:01:14Speaker 17: or something show. Yeah, go on a big radio show
- 1:01:18Speaker 17: on Yeah, something like that. Maybe not an element, maybe
- 1:01:21Speaker 17: like a fallon.
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: He's got a weird side to him.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: He's got a weird side.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: He's got like this.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: Yeah, he's got a weird side to him.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: That's his nickname. What his nickname on the team is?
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: Why?
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: I don't know what's stuck? Probably figure out I would
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: have to click on things on Twitter to find out why,
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: right have you?
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: It's great baby, that's another great moment from.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: Okay, we're back here in Patriots Unfiltered. We're talking about
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: the free agency, Taking your calls, taking your emails eight
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: five five Pats five hundred is the hotline podcast at
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Patriots dot com. It's the email address so Paul and Coventry,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Rhode Island. Pool says, this is the third offseason the
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Patriots have had to build around a quarterback. Knowing they
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: were going that route in the twenty four draft, being
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: March tenth. I'm not going to crush them, but the
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: two highest paid offensive players currently on the team are
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: both guards. The best they've done at wide receiver has
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: been a one year reclamation project. Similarly, the offensive line
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: has been underwhelming. While the schedule was considered easy last season,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: they played twelve games, including playoffs, against teams in the
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: top half of the league in sacks. In those twelve games,
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: they allowed forty nine. It wasn't just the playoffs where
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: this line fell short. Between the shortcomings of the line
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: and the lack of talent at wide receiver, how do
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: the Patriots think this offense will take a step forward
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: on offense against good teams?
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I mean fair, it's a fair I think a little
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: bit overly critical. I would just say you're right in
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: that the two I pay guys on offense to two guards.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: But to suggest that that's where they've stopped in terms
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: of adding, I mean, you used a first round pick
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: on your left tackle, you used a fourth round pick,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: third round pick, third on Jared Wilson, third on your center.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: So you've made a lot of steps to fortify your
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: offensive line. Now maybe you could say that they haven't
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: done it well enough to your liking when you're citing
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: all the stats there with the sacks allowed. And I'd
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: also just I'm going to stay a little bit more
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: patient in terms of the wide receiver.
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: Because al Pearce really the only needle mover.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and you went back to the Colts,
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: but you wouldn't feel great. I don't think if you
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: know that they went out and gave the bag to
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: one of these, you know, Romeo, Romeo Dobs and Juwan
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: Jennings are going to make a fair amount of money,
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: and I don't think that that would solve all your desires.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I would just say that players improve
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: from especially young players in their first or second year.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: So what you saw out of rookie Jared Wilson at
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: left guard and rookie Will Campbell left tackle is not
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: necessarily what you're gonna see next year. Say what you're
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: gonna see from Drake May and year two and Josh
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: McDaniels system, where there's a lot on him deciding some
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: of that pressure stuff as well, that you're gonna see
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: some improvement there. So I just feel that stuff always
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: gets lost in the wash. If they stunk last year,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: they're gonna stink again, and no one leaves any room
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: for guys to improve. And I think the coaching staff
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: does do that, and you know, and they've challenged guys
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to get stronger and then to improve. It doesn't mean
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: they're gonna come in and be Pro Bowlers next year.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: But at a certain point, you can't just try to
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: fill every single position that you didn't like how it
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: performed last year. You've got to allow these guys to develop.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: I would I would just say sacks are quarterback stat
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: Like if we're going to grade the offensive line, like,
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: using sacks is not really a great barometer because nine
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: times out of ten, the quarterback is the one that's
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: controlling whether it's a sack.
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there are some sacks that are on
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: the quarterback, But when it's that high end.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: Sacks are quarterbacks that like you when you look at
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: time to throw, when you look at you know, scrambling quarterbacks,
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: guys that like to move around. All those guys that
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: are always near the top of the league in sacks taken.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: You know, this was a big thing for years and
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: years and years with Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson would hold
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: the ball, he'd run around, he'd take a lot of sacks.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: He'd also make a lot of plays. You know, Drake
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: may is the same kind of way. So when you
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: look at you know, the quarterbacks that get sacked the
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: most nine times out of ten, those are the quarterbacks
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: that hold the ball the most, that are mobile, that
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: you know, are guys that can run around and move around.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: So like if you look at the offensive line last
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: year certainly was not a finished product by any means,
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: but substantial improvement from twenty four to twenty five on
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: the line, and that deduce his point. A lot of
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: those guys were young players, you know, two of them
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: in particular, that you hope are going to get even
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: better as we go forward here. So they went from
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: thirty second in the league as an offensive line in
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: twenty four to probably like middle of the pack in
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: twenty five.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Fast improvement.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: And then you said, acts in your two highest paid
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: guys or guard. So they went out there and signed
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: a really good pass blocking guard to try to improve
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: it even more.
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: Yeah, So I would you know, just to piggyback on that,
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: you took the line from twenty five, and now you
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: go to twenty six and on paper, again that's dangerous.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: But on paper, theoretically you've improved the two positions.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: You know you hope, well you hope Wilson's better than
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: Brad Burry.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: So no, I know that Vera Tucker's better than that.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: He's the one for one replacement. And what you hope
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: is that Wilson moving to center, his natural position, improves
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: him as well. So you have a better Wilson and
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: a better Vera Tucker. Again, that's on paper. Games aren't
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: one on paper. So I'm not going to be a
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: fraud and say, well you do you won the off season.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: I'm not doing that. I'm just saying in theory, they've
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: addressed what they think was a problem. I know, as
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: the season we're on last year, when you get sacked
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: forty something times in the plug, whatever.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: It was, I definitely look at the A signing as
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: helping Drake May What is it, Mike, it's a joke.
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: It goes back to that question.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Though you'd love to know a handful of guys love
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: to know what they really think of them, Like Jared Wilson.
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: We think he's going to be an All Pro center. Uh,
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: Kyle Williams, he's going to think.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: He'll be a better center than he was a gun.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: That's all I'm willing to do.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I just got a little overly positive there. But you know,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I mean, maybe they have grand aspirations for some of
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: these guys. Maybe they look at Elijah Ponder and say
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: he can be Caleb Chason. And now again it's stretch maybe,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: but maybe they feel strongly about certain players that were
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: underselling a little bit, and only they know.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: All of these things kind of happened. I would just
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: put that entire personnel and.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Coaching department, Hall of Famer, Hall of Famer, Hall of Famer,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Hall of Famer.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: Hall of Fame, fame, and you got Elijah Elijah.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: I figure that somebody has to say that man, because
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: everyone writes in the well he's stunk.
- 1:08:02Speaker 7: He's stunk, he's stunk.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: He started all year, but he's stunked to I didn't
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: really see enough out of Woods and he's stunk.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: Like you know, oh, Woodson played really I think Wilson's
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: the one guy who played better and better as the
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: season went on. I don't think people are saying he's stunk.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Bring your New One Travis and West Virginia shout out
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: to Deuce for getting Cynthia Freeland to flirt with him.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: She's a solid eight, solid eight.
- 1:08:24Speaker 7: I didn't have to do anything.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: I just was interviewer.
- 1:08:26Speaker 7: I think that's just that's that.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: Is people don't I don't think we objectified people like that.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: I think you're keep running it every two places, Paul,
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: So you like my theater.
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: I was thinking about that on the ride, and I
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: was like, well, I could argue that they got better
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: in two plays.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Well that's what you have to hope. You have to
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: hope because I because I.
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: Am really convinced that Jared Wilson's gonna is a much
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: better center than he is a guard. I am too,
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: And I'm not sure if he's better than Bradbury yet,
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: but I'm convinced that he's better.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: He might he might not be. But I'm also convinced
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: that you got you sold high on Bradbury. You got
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: the best that Bradbury was going to give you based
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: on his track record, and I think he was fantastic
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: for them last year, all things considered. But if you
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: had to you know, so I know, Mike, you would
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: probably bristle at this because everybody's everybody advances to the
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: All pro level. If you had to guess, would you
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: say you would get better or worse played from Bradbury
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: next year?
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Worse, I would think, I mean I would think worse.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Weren't we on the fence with him coming out of
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Yes and you got to you got.
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: A really solid year, not like an All Pro year
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: or anything like that. But he played every game he
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: posted he was he played well.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: I told you he would do.
- 1:09:39Speaker 10: I did.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: I think you told me he was going to be
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: a pro bowler out now?
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: You guys pushed bad at Minnesota. He was really low
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: in the past.
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: He was bad. He bounced back off off a bad year.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: I thought, give him credit fine too, but he was fine.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: You know, I think you're hoping Jared Wilson has a
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: much higher ceiling and just his body type, his athleticism,
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: his play strength, like all of it fits better with
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: him being a center. You know, all the people when
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: they don't.
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: Have power to guard at times, and I don't think
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: that that's as likely to happen at center.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Let's go back to the phones eight five five pats
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: five hundred, zach Is in New Hampshire.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: Hey Zach, Hey guys, thanks, thanks for taking my call.
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: I just wanted to know if you thought there might
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: be some potential receiver names we're not really hearing about
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: in trade, like a guy like Marvin Harrison Junior, and
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: what his scheme fit could be in that offense.
- 1:10:31Speaker 18: And then also what your thoughts are on free agent
- 1:10:34Speaker 18: linebacker Leoshanal.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Thanks guys.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: Okay, I don't, I mean, is there anything about Harrison
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: just he's available?
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Just Twitter scuttle, But yeah, I don't.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: I mean, I think much like the Brian Thomas stuff,
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: I don't think it makes a lot of sense to
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: do that.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you got rid of your quarterback and now you're
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: gonna get rid.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: Of The only argument would be is if like somebody
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: is going to offer you something crazy and you're kind
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: of in Arizona, you're kind of resetting, so like if
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: somebody were going to offer you like multiple first round picks.
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: But is someone going to offer you something crazy for
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: a guy who's been by all accounts of disappointment through
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: two years?
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: Oh, I think disappointments.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: You don't know whether that's but would you would you
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: give up to Evans point like a first round pick,
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: and like, I don't see Arizona trading. I mean they
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: took they took him with like the fourth overall pick. Yeah,
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: he was high.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: It was what do we know about Lee?
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: Yeah, it didn't really live up to his draft type.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: You know, really good athlete, but like more of like
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: a straight line athlete. But uh, I thought that he
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: was gonna be much better pro kind of honestly. Uh
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: remember him in the draft and went to the combine
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: at this crazy workout at like pretty heavy. He's like
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: two fifty eight, two fifty plus, but he's like a
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: downhill missile. Like that's a guy that's going to run
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: into the line of scrimmage and blitz and stop the
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: run and do that kind of stuff. And the change
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: of direction and uh, you know, the feel and coverage
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: was always a little bit of a concern with him,
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: even coming out of college. So I mean, I don't
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: hate the player. I just I think that, you know,
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: everybody's kind of looking for somebody to play off of
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: Robert Spolaine. That's a little bit better than like a
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Christian Ellis. I just don't know if you need a
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: Leoshanall if he's going to make any sort of sizeable
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: money in free agency. It's a really really good linebacker class,
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: and you'd probably rather get younger and cheaper and try
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: to develop somebody behind Spolaine instead of, you know, doing
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: the free agency round.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Michelle, who loves it when I call it, when I
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: call her Salata got almost as much as Cynthia loves it,
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: just calls her sin.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: She says there'll never be another Mankins. Just so we're clear,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: But does Vera Tucker went healthy have a bit of
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: his nastiness? I'd love to see that.
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: I don't think so. I think he's a lot more
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: like Joe Toney than he is like Logan Mankins. I
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: don't think that he's really.
- 1:13:04Speaker 19: Like.
- 1:13:04Speaker 7: He's not a technician.
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: Yeah, he's really athletic, great movement skills, great pass blocker,
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: great technician with his hands, but not a maller.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, jump on top of you on the ground,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I mean play, No, you guys would know more.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Did he play tackle at USC?
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: He did. He played a year left tackle at USC.
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: He played a year of right tackle with the Jets.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: I know he played some tackle.
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: He's played both guards spots. He played four spots on
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: the line, just not center, so he's played everywhere. He
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: is another short arms guy, short arms, small wingspan, so
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: another narrowly built human which really took tackle on that side.
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: It was my one nitpick, but that that that's the tackle.
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: Like if if you had to play him at right
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: tackle in a pinch like Morgan Moses got hurt and
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: you had to play him at right tackle for a
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: game or two, I think you can do it, and
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: like like okay, and kind of like Mike on Win
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: like you know, like I think you could move him
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: outside if you had to, kind of like mancons but
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: not his natural spot, kind of like Macons kind of
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: like kind of like man. Yeah, that's my one nippin
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: though is he's Yes, he has a seventy six and
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: seven eighths inch wingspan, which is smaller than Will Campbell's
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: and he only has thirty two and eighth in charms.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: So we're not at guard.
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: We're talking about God. Like I was hoping they were
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: going to kind of like supplement Campibell with like a
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: wide body dollar this is more of like a very
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: high level pass protector than it is.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: That would you have liked David Edwards more than Yes, but.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: David Edwards was more expensive barely.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Well, I don't we don't really don't know what the
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: guarantee money is, but I mean average annual value. I
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: think Edward's got fifteen million, yeah, and this got fourteen, right, and.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: He got eleven three years forty two. Mike can value
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: of forty eight if he like seven Pro Bowls with
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: the Patriots.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Mike and Wilmington writes in question for Paul and the
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: group on their favorite topic of free agent contracts. Paul
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: notorious that's fourteen, doesn't care about money and thinks the
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: player is either good or not bad.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, sorry, I'm doing math over here.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Should I read that again so you can hear it?
- 1:15:21Speaker 10: Well?
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Three years it eleven is thirty three finish okay, yeah,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: forty two is yeah, fortying maths, that's a big difference.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: He's fair, he's right, cap right. Again, we don't know
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: the guarantee, so maybe the guarantees, what the injury history is.
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: I'm sorry, there's a little bit less than David Edwards.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: That's all.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: I'll read this again. Question for Paul and the group.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: Paul notoriously doesn't care about money and thinks the player
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: is either good or not. If Kaishan body is Kaishan
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Boody a good or bad player, I'd say good. But
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: if we were paying him fifteen million verse thirty million,
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: I'd be so expecting more than what he's historically been.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Contracts matter for pecking order. There's no issue with paying
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: market value for guys as long as they play to
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: the role of that value. If we pay someone like
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: a two or a three, the job as a two
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: or three is safe. If we pay someone like a one,
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: they likely will become a future cap casualty. It's not
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: about good bad, it's about expected production from their fit.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: Thank you, Andy Hart. Everything everything he wrote is exactly right.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: I can't argue with any of that. That was a
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: gross exaggeration of my point. But that's an Andy Hart argument. Well,
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: if you give Hi him thirty million, do you still
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: think he's a good player. No, Vakaishan Boody's not a
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: thirty million dollar player. So you can't just give everybody
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: number one receiver money if they're valuable. I get that. Congratulations.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Be surprised you haven't heard extend booty like you know? No,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: yeah right, I'm not surprised you have a lot of
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: people are very high on him, I mean pretty higher
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: than we are.
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: He's no one more so than fred.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: I like his upside I do.
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: I mean, like the year he's going to make the
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: year five leap.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: I think now he's something clicked last year.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: I mean he's one of the closest things. I mean,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: EVE been talking about they can't draft wide receivers.
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: He's the closest thing. Come.
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: I just think that we're going into year four. Yeah,
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: this is probably what he is. What he is, and
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: that's not a bad player, Like he's an NFL player
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: and like a productive player.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: But as Drake May improves, I think those around him
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: will as well.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: I just don't know. I don't know. I think this
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: is five point fifty six hundred yard receiver. Like we
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: all like Booty, But I just am telling you, I
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: just don't think that. Like like you guys can disagree.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I just like feel like, I mean, I feel like
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: we're all in the same place.
- 1:17:47Speaker 7: We all like him.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: But you know, for a player that you drafted as
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: a wide receiver, that everyone is obsessful wide receivers that
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: you've developed and had some good season, nobody's really saying Oh,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: they should get in now and extend Booty in.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: You you know, I don't think every team has the
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: guys that the Patriots are searching for.
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: Just how does where does the volume in his like?
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: How does he expand to a higher volume role? Like
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: what's the because right now he's a go ball specialist.
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: He catches won a game. If you're you know, maybe how.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: How amount of passes per game? How do the Patriots
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: rank in the league? Pass attempts per game?
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Uh, they were pretty high last year.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: They were high.
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Drake is.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: Early because you know, when Drake was having good games,
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: you throw the ball twenty five times?
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: They were Yeah, they were twenty third in passing twenty third.
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not high. Well I'm talking about draw I
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: go by dropbacks. Okay, because he scrambles.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Oh okay, well yeah but amount of time thrown, yeah,
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: might increase.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: But would that be a bad thing?
- 1:18:50Speaker 17: No?
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: I think that.
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: I think it will be because they might not have
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: the lead the whole second half of every game like
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: they did last year, which is why that number was so.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Long, whatever the whatever, the reason the number was lower.
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: No, because because they'll play I mean arguably they played
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: thirteen or fourteen games exactly the way they wanted to
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: play them. Right, We're going to get the lead at
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: the half, We're going to play Katie by the door
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: in the second half and lean on the defense and
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: run the ball and get out of here with a win.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: But because are playing teams that were overwhelming, maybe.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: In the second year with Josh McDaniel's being with Drake May,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: he feels more comfortable airing it out a little bit more,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: and not because of necessity.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: Tenth in total dropbacks last.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Because I want to because we can do it, and
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: because it's more effective, as you would agree.
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: I want to throw the ball, you know that, Yeah,
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: but I'm not necessarily saying that like that's going to
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: be great for like the production like you might. You're
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: not going to complete seventy three percent if you've start
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: throwing the ball more than that. That's one of the
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: reasons why the.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Sod opportunities for a guy like Booty.
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: I would just wondering more like what true what branches
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: at the tree? Is he adding to his repertoire to
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: get to a higher volume, because like the the go
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: balls on the outside are a low percentage play that
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: is only going to happen so many times a game.
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: So like deep in cuts, he's good at those, two
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: he's okay at those like are deep in cut slants?
- 1:20:10Speaker 17: Like is that?
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: How are we getting him from? What was he like
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: the forty catches last year? Thirty five counties? Yeah, to
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: sixty And it's it's not going to be just because
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: Drake May throws him an extra go ball every single game.
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: That's not going to get him there. So like you
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: have to expand his repertoire.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: Okay, I have faith in the coaches to be able
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: to do that.
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: Okay, I could I mean I could see him.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: I mean he might be right.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: I mean thirty three is a pretty low number. I
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: mean I could see him increasing that.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but it hit forty three two years ago.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, That's why I said thirty three is are pretty
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: low number.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: He went up for yards perception from thirteen point seven
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: to sixteen point seven.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: But it was like in twenty four and twenty five
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: it was kind of the same, right.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean yards per game thirty nine point three
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: thirty nine point four.
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: Yeah. And I would also saylast year was more impactful
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: because they were you know, two years two years ago,
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: someone had to catch the ball. Last year, they were
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: you know, big, big plays that resulted in helping them
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: win games, you know, much better in my view.
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: Like figure out a way to be more productive on
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: first and second level targets. Like what's like something else that.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: To your point. I don't really like him on slants
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: like they them and he kind of like he has
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: great hands, but like there were a few times that
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: I looked at he kind of have that one like
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: that seemed to me again very anecdotal, like kind of
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: like low ones that went off his hands and stuff.
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: I like him better down the field. But maybe that's right.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Maybe Evan's got it and that's how he expands the
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: He caught a million of those. I remember.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: The guy on the rams now that was drafted by
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: the Commanders. Yeah, right, dusted them like seventy yards.
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: Totally know what you're talking about it LSU. Yes, that's
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: what he got on everyone's radar.
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, maybe that's the type of we could add
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: go back to that and add some of that in.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: But it seems like he's going to catch his big
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: bomb once a game and come back to close the game. Yeah,
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: nothing wrong with that.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Yep, big on, booty. Let's go back to the phones.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: Christians in LA. What's up Christian.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: Hey you guys, Hey you guys, Hey, you guys. I
- 1:22:24Speaker 8: just wanted to give you guys a shout out here
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: and some flowers, because as things get crazier out outside
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: of our houses and outside in the world, it seems like,
- 1:22:35Speaker 8: you know, an escapism is need, and you guys provide
- 1:22:37Speaker 8: a great way to just sit back and listen to
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: something that actually makes sense. Right, So as the world
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: starts making sense, you guys make more sense. So thank
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: you very much for that, just in general. But onto football,
- 1:22:50Speaker 8: I don't really know what Mike Braibile is doing. It
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: seems to me like he doesn't.
- 1:22:58Speaker 11: Super Bowl window now.
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: He's still sort of building and trying to figure out
- 1:23:02Speaker 8: what this team is.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: Maybe I'm not thinking the right way, but when you
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: go to a Super Bowl, doesn't that begin your Super
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: Bowl window? Am I thinking about it incorrectly?
- 1:23:15Speaker 12: No?
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: I don't. I would hope that they think that there
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: should be viable contenders in twenty six. I hope they're
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: not thinking that twenty six is now a rebuilding year
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: or you know, a gateway to twenty seven.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: I think it's an interesting question, Yeah, because it goes
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: to like what they what they honestly think of how
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: how much progress they made last year, and how much
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: it was sort of, you know, a perfect storm.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: Yeah, so I do think that they probably look at
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: it and say, yeah, we're maybe we're further advanced in
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: our rebuild than we thought, but we still have some
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: work to do in the rebuild.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: I think that's why Chris.
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: You don't you say you don't know what Rabel's doing.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: What would you have done so far?
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: So I would have made sure I got one of
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: those those premium linebackers, anything, just to we know there's edge,
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: there's edge players in the draft. Development will maybe maybe
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: we get lucky someone drops or whatever, but we really
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: do need a rangy middle linebacker, just just sort of
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: sure things. And in my estimation, guys, here's what I
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: would do thinking about our pick. We can get the
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: number six, you know, wide receiver, number six, guard number six,
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: number four of this and that we can get the
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: number two safety right on the board. We pair her
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: with Christian Gonzales. Okay, now the defense, the back end.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: We got the back end for the.
- 1:24:39Speaker 20: Next ten years let's say we can we can focus
- 1:24:42Speaker 20: on some other things. But it seems like to me,
- 1:24:43Speaker 20: we're just not taking the shots to make us feel
- 1:24:47Speaker 20: like as fans, we believe we're in our window. We're
- 1:24:49Speaker 20: a piece of two away.
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: I don't think they think they're.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: A yeah, and that's what I'm saying. I think it's
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: an interesting conversation. Because they went to the Super Bowl.
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: I think people are thinking like I don't think that's Christian.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: I don't think they think like that.
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: No, I think they're more thinking, let's stay the course.
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: And part of staying the course is they have eleven
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: draft picks, and maybe they're a little bit lower than
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: they wanted them. You know, we thought they were going
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: to be because of going to the Super Bowl.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: Evan truth just came out there.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: We just went back to.
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: Watching some great watching them get killed in the super Bowl.
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: It was fantastic. So, you know, but they have eleven
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: draft picks. If you then all of a sudden go
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: out and start trading away all those draft picks for players,
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: it might be that instant gratification thing of like this
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: is really cool, but is that the best long term
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: interest to the team.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: So the other part of it is just remember how
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: much money they spent last year in free agency on
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: a bunch of guys that will not just continue to
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: be the guy like you know, you talk about the
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: young guys, Mike when they don't play well right away
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: and everybody just says, well they stink. We talked about
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: brad Berry, you know, do you think he was going
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: which way up or down? You know, it's the same
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: thing with a handful of guys that they signed to Moses.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: You know they're going to have to replace Harold Landry, Carlton, Davis, Morgan, Moses.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: These are guys that were key elements of what they
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: did last year. I'm not sure that you are expecting
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: them to be part of a super Bowl team in
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: twenty seven. So that's why for the argument for staying
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: the course that Evan just that's why you can't fall
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: into well, we get that last year, so that's going
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: to be the same this year. You don't know how
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: that's going to but you have to sort of plan
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: for that.
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: Just listening to them at the combine, there was obvious
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: optimism and an upbeat vibe about what they just came
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: off of. But I still I think that staying the
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: course was kind of the message of like, we're not
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: we were in the super Bowl, but we were in
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: a super Bowl team, and we're going to kind of
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: be deliberate about going.
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: To be prudent.
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: Now, that doesn't mean they can't go out there and
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: make trades and make moves, but it just me and
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: we all want.
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: Them to do everything they can to be as as
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: productive and as as successful as they can. Right, So
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: we're all looking for wide receivers, we're all looking for
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: edge rushers for Mike. So Mike is happy and Christian no.
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: But Christian's point about the linebacker too. Splain is another
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: guy that I would kind of put in that category.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: You saw somewhere and tear there, you know, so what
- 1:27:21Speaker 4: like they you know, they don't have a lot around that.
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: So Evan and Mike, they were at the combine. They
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: tell me about this linebacker class. You know, this off
- 1:27:30Speaker 4: ball linebacker class is maybe a little bit a little
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: bit better than a normal year. So yeah, I think
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: Christian's right to be looking for some of those guys.
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: Like you could go out and sign Devin Lloyd signed
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: last night, Leosh and people are calling it is still
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: a free agent. I just if you draft a linebacker,
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: you know, early on day two or something like that,
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: is that a better investment? Where like, now we're going
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: to try to develop this guy so that one Splain
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: does run out of gas in the tank, we're passing
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: the torch to the younger guy, and we're kind of
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: already have that there. Maybe he plays off of Spleen
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: at the beginning part of his career to get on
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: the field.
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: It's a great argument though, too, Like that's how I
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: think we all feel, you know, Fred, you know, the
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: three of us spent a lot of time talking about
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: this crap in the think tank.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: Yeah downstairs, at least we have the whole thing mapped out,
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: we do think.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: But I wouldn't but but yes, yes, but I would not, like,
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: you know, like I'm very argumentative, as you guys all know.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: I wouldn't like take someone to task for calling and saying,
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: they went to the Super Bowl last year, they should
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: absolutely be treating themselves like they are a Super Bowl team,
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: not a team that went to the Super Bowl. They
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: were a piece or to it. I wouldn't strongly push
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: back on that. I would disagree, but I understand why
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: as a fan, Well, we just went why can't we
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: go again? You know, I understand that that line.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: Especially, it was like looking at the rest of the AFC, like,
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: really hasn't gotten all that much better?
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: How About we won the AFC East, we can win
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: it again. How about that? So if that's the case,
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: let's go.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: And I just I think something needs to be said
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: that Mike Rabel is a hell of a football coach,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: and I think you put together a hell of a
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: team last year despite some weaknesses that they had. And
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: I think Drake May is probably the most promising young
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: quarterback in the league right now going into year three.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: So for all the things that we nitpick about their
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: positional needs and what they need, they're starting from a
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: really good place right now. And I just I continue
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: to believe in the program that he's established and the
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: coaching job that he's going to do with Josh McDaniels
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: on the offense, with Drake developing, it's not like you're
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: starting from scratch or I get that maybe it's not
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: a piece or two away, but you sure aren't as
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: far as a way as you were two or two years.
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: Brabel's like ability to have like a vision for how
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: players fit into the into the scheme that they're going
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: to run, and how they're going to use them all
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: that kind of stuff. Like we're talking about all these
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: free agents from last year. Not all of them are
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: Millon Williams, you know, Like some of them are Kiris, Toga,
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: Roberts Blaine, you know, and like those guys outperform their contracts,
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: and like what I I'm not saying, like I think
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: Draymond Jones is fine, but maybe they think that in
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: our system, with our coaching, with our we're gonna make
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: him have a chase On season where he's guys a
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: little bit of a breakout.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: That's another positive piece of what I just said was
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: that you saw guys improve last year. You saw guys
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: get performances that you didn't know you were going to get.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: A guy like Jalen Hawkins who played pretty well, you know,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Tonga who had a really good year and then earns
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: a three year deal. You don't know what chase On
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: is going to earn. But that to me is incredibly
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: promising that because I don't think we saw that in
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: recent years around here. We didn't see players reach new
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: levels or improving away. If anything, it was in the
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: opposite direction where you didn't get the kind of performances
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: you hope that out of guys. So now I just
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: think that there has to be an underlying sense of
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: optimism based on that season and every year every team
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: is going through what the Patriots are going trying to
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: fill holes, trying to balance the budget, figure all that
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: stuff out.
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: But you got to coach, you got a quarterback, just
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: continue to draft.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Well, this free agency stuff, it's you know, it's it
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: kind of comes and goes.
- 1:30:57Speaker 7: Like I like what they're doing so far.
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: I just wonder too with Vera Tucker, you know, Frank
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: Perino and Doc Whale and are two of the best
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: of the business at their jobs, Like can they keep
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: them healthy?
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: Can they keep them on the field.
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: But maybe maybe.
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: Maybe the Jets were doing things. Let's face it, it's
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: the Jets, right, they don't often do a lot of
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: things right, so you know, maybe that's was part of it.
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: Like maybe they put him on a program and they
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: ramp him up in the training camp and.
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: Get them off the pick.
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: Yeah, what kind of chicken. I'm just saying, like these things,
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: like they were able to keep Morgan Moses on two
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: feet for.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Off yep, right, it'll be like you're not using your
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: arms today in practice use your we're protecting arms are short.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: So maybe it's like.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: Zach and Cincinnati. I know the optics of getting hype
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: for a fullback signing, but seeing Buffalo social media have
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: a bit of a meltdown tells me that it's an
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: absolutely home run of an acquisition. Huge upgrade over west Over,
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: excited to see how this translates into our running game.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: I could drink the Buffalo tears as a pre workout
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: that said, is it a J Brown or bust?
- 1:32:06Speaker 12: Now?
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: No, But I'm with you on Gilliam. It's my favorite
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: signing really.
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: I just I think that schematically, there's a lot of
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: different things that you can do with a full back.
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: I'm pretty like pretty much every single guy that I
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: look at as like the great play callers in the
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: league use a full back. You know, the way that
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: you can create blocking advantages, you know, formations, things like that.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: It's it's a it's a sneaky good thing, like it's
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: a sneaky good thing to have.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: And about the full back world, I saw him and
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: ar Cans going back and forth.
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: Yeah, right, McDaniel took his full back from Miami and
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: brought him with him to the Chargers, like Miami released
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: him after McDaniel got fired, and he said, hey, we
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: better go get alecld I need him.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Cohler right like the block the best blocking tight end
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: in the league, as they announced him.
- 1:32:57Speaker 7: Yeah, Jim Harbaugh is going to Jim Harbaugh.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: I guess Trent and Sylvan Lake. He says, I'm glad
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: Pierce is back in Indy. Excuse my ignorance, but how
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: does an Alec Pierce type change the way defenses will play?
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: The Patriots defense has already played with deep safeties because
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: of how effective May is with the deep ball. Seems
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: like adding this type of wide receiver would be playing
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: into the way defenses already line up against you. They
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: should focus more on a possession receiver, especially in a
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Josh McDaniels offense. A dependable target who will constantly move
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: the chains is extremely valuable. People claim to be clamoring
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: or people seem to be clamoring for a fifty to
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: fifty ball receiver, but May doesn't throw a lot of
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: fifty to fifty balls. May is great at throwing receivers open.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: I was going to say, are there any good possession
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: receivers in the draft? Would who would be a dream
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: target in the draft to add to for dre for May?
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: A tight end, a slot or a wide receiver.
- 1:33:55Speaker 7: There's my question.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I don't know the answer, but what is Drake May's
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: ideal possessions?
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: Last?
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: Like a possession of receiver? Who's available Stan Diggs?
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: So just on this email here, just schematically Okay, So
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: how do you think that the offense looked in the playoffs?
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: When do you think Stefan Diggs was the same guy
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: in the playoffs as he was during the regular season.
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: My guess is bet that you would answer that no.
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: So all of these defenses that are so worried about
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: getting beat deep completely took away your your volume guy
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: underneath in the playoffs when when the games mattered. So theoretically,
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: and I'm not telling you that this would happen, but theoretically,
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: Pierce requires more attention than Kaishaan Boody as that outside
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: deep threat, and maybe he does take some of the
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: coverage away from whoever the guy that's filling the Stefan
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: Diggs role would be. That's why some people were clamoring
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: for quote unquote a fifty to fifty ball guy.
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: And people were saying that in that offense, he'd get
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: actually more production in this offense because he'd be more
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: the guys.
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: I would have signed off on the same production. You know,
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: give me fifty catches for a thousand yards while occupying
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: the you know, the the deep safeties and let someone
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: underneath saying yeah.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Yeah, people are saying.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I mean it's obviously not at the same level, but
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: like it's mass and Welker, right like that, that's that's
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: the the way way you were looking.
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: At it is like the question is who's your Welca Right,
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: that's a big question.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: And you know he asked about the draft. There are
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: a number of guys in there. I think like Casey
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: Concepcion and Omar Cooper Junior are probably the two most
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: well known ones that are going to be available potentially
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: at thirty one. I'm a cacc guy. Omar Cooper Junior
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: is a really good player too, though, really good prospects.
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: Like both of those guys were for me to be
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: on board with.
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: Both guys, yeah, they're they're both good good kind of
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: different but similar at the same time. You know, both
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: guys that can win over the middle of the field,
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: that can move the chains, but are a little bit
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: more explosive. I would say, like after the catch with
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: the ball in their hands a little bit more so
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: I would say he's more explosive. Cooper is a better
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: ball carrier. He's like prefer to bring down. He's got
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: more contact balance distinction there. I like that Concepcion's explosive,
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: Like that guy can really move.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: Tim and Boston has two questions. First, what are the
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: run blocking for his pass protection numbers for AVT? What's
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: his best run scheme fit.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: He's actually you know, well, I mean he only really
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: played in the zone scheming with the Jets, so I
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: can't really say he can't do anything else. He just
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: wasn't really asked to do a ton else with the Jets.
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: But his best ability as a run blocker is his
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: ability to get out of his stance and get on
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: the move, whether that's reaching you know, blocks on the
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: line of scrimmage or getting up to the second level
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: of the defense combination blocks poles, but mostly reach blocks
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: on the line of scrimmage, where like there'll be a
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: guy that'll be inside of him and he's able to
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: get around, scoop him and turn him inside out, and
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: like those are the types of things that get run.
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: Gets runs going up the field is when you make
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: those blocks on the line of scrimmage. So watching him
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: a little bit, like he gets out of his stance
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: really quickly, you know, really has a lot of very
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: good movement skills. I don't think he's a road grader,
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: Like he's not gonna He's not like a big time
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: people mover. But when you think about Wilson Vera, Tucker Campbell,
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: like we're talking about a lot of athleticism going left,
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: Like that's that's three guys that are high end athletes
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: at their position that can really move.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: His second point is more of a point now a question.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: All of our eggs are in the AJ Brown or
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: Brian Thomas junior basket and other teams know it. As
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: the offseason progresses, we're gonna continue losing leverage in those negotiations.
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: My fear is we'll be forced into getting fleeced in
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: a trade or going into the draft with a glaring hole,
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: which we've discussed leads to dangerously risky picks. I'm scared. Fred,
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: help me feel better.
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: No, I get it.
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: I mean I feel the same way.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: I mean, it does feel like you're kind of obsessed
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: with three guys right now of you know, varying degrees
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: of interest or possibility, And I mean, are you kind
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: of handcuffed right now? And this is this goes back
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: to I think what Rabel said, like, you know, it's
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: hard to get that player in free agency. You need
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: to figure out a way to draft somebody in the
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: first two days of the draft and let them develop
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: into a superstar. It's it's it's hard playing this game
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: every off season where you're trying to find Randy Moss.
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: If they went to the draft and wide receiver was
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: the glaring number one need I understand, like we've all
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: been saying it, they don't have a good history there.
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: It's scary to think that they would really have the
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: all the eggs in that basket. But I am cautiously
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: optimistic that there's gonna be guys available that should be
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: going in that range of the draft that they would
- 1:38:43Speaker 5: be able to select.
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, like I'm not size that you would
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: like that aren't reaches.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: Yeah, And even if like let's say they get to
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: that point in the draft and wide receiver is really
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: this glaring need like there's nothing preventing them from trading
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: up a little bit to make sure that they get
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: the guy. And you know, maybe that's the more aggressive
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: that they take is where it's move up eight spots
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: to make sure that we get Casey Concepci owner, we
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: get Omar Cooper Junior, and jump some of the teams
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: that are around them that might be you know, like Buffalo,
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: I'm thinking, is a couple of spots ahead of them
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: right like they're gonna be a wide receiver team most likely?
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: Like so can you leap frog somebody and get one
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: of those guys?
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: All right?
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: Back to the phones? Eight five five pats five hundred.
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: Eldridge is in North Carolina? What's up? Eldred? Hey?
- 1:39:26Speaker 9: Tell the hell y'all doing today?
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: Okay, hey, Paul.
- 1:39:31Speaker 9: Evan, you did wrong on both Okay, boy Brown and
- 1:39:36Speaker 9: who I don't think on A J. Brown? He still
- 1:39:40Speaker 9: can get deep, he still get open, and he can out.
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: He can run past corners. The problem is is Jalen Hurst.
- 1:39:46Speaker 9: You wouldn't hit him?
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: Who am I? I don't know who we're talking about?
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: J Brown?
- 1:39:51Speaker 9: A J. Brown? So here saying, well, you don't think
- 1:39:53Speaker 9: he still can get open?
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: He just didn't get.
- 1:39:56Speaker 9: No excuse me.
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: I think is something like if you're thinking that you're
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: getting a J. Brown to like stretch the field vertically
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: at this stage of his career, that's it's just not it.
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: I don't see that. Like I think he can win
- 1:40:09Speaker 5: down the field, Okay, Like you can see a guy
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: that wins kind of like Booty does with you know,
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: like body positioning, strong hands at the catch point. You
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: know that that's definitely something that he can still do.
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: I just don't see him like threatening guys with speed
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: like he did early on in his career. But he
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: definitely can still win the ball down the field. I
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: mean he's probably one of the best at that in
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: the league just because of how strong he is and
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: how good his hands are.
- 1:40:38Speaker 9: Can ask you one more question, sure, okay, why do
- 1:40:42Speaker 9: we keep want to get the same guy that you
- 1:40:44Speaker 9: got on the field. I mean, you got a bunch
- 1:40:47Speaker 9: of ke and Omar Coop. You know what you steal guys,
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: you got them there, you know, why not get ex
- 1:40:58Speaker 9: like you said, like Mouston Wilker and just going I
- 1:41:01Speaker 9: know we have a hard time with Wolf drafting. But
- 1:41:03Speaker 9: like I said, before you got Hurst, you gonna have
- 1:41:06Speaker 9: my boy Chris Brasel at thirty one. But I would
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: get Hurst at thirty one to Hurst down it in
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: the fifth round range. But Brassele gonna be there about
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: middle of the second. He's just like a J. Pierce
- 1:41:19Speaker 9: three or six four, four to three. They can catch
- 1:41:22Speaker 9: and he can't block. So I don't understand it, but didn't.
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: Again either way, we were just talking about replacing digs
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: and like not replacing digs with Chris Brasel, But if
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: they want to go that direction, I'm all on board.
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: Like I said that the combine that after he ran
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: a four to three whatever it was, I was like, yep,
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: this guy, this guy's on the board, give it to me.
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: But we just were talking Moss and Welker. That still
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: doesn't solve your Welker problem. Like you might have you know,
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: dollar store Moss, but you know who's Welker.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: Ford and Savannah writes in they need to pull the
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: trigger on AJ Brown a sap else you'd be giving
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: tree May a number one receiver for three years at
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: the age of twenty nine, thirty and thirty one. Trade
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: them this year, second and next year's first and make
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: it your business to make sure that first is as
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: late in the round as possible.
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: LFG. I'd do it if they would do.
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: That, but I'd rather give the first this year the
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: thirty first pick as opposed to I don't know what
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: number is going to be, and theoretically a better.
- 1:42:21Speaker 7: Drought might probably be higher than thirty one.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: But maybe maybe he's thinking Roseman would rather take our
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: next year's one. But either way, he wants two ones reportedly,
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: so that's not going to get it done.
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: I just I wondered. I don't know if it's the
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: Patriots necessarily, but there's all this minutia with AJ Brown's
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: contract and the June first deadline and all this different
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: kind of stuff. I just don't know if we're in
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: the right time of year for AJ Brown trade to happen.
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: So like, does this get revisited when guys sometimes get
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: move in like August, like Michael Parsons last year, Like,
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: do they revisit this entire thing come then when it's
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: easier more digestible for Philadelphia to move on from the contract.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: And does AJ Brown start to make a stink even,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: you know, does he want to get out of there.
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: I mean we're talking about I hope I have the numbers, right.
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: I think it's like a forty million dollar dead cap
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: hit if they trade him before June first, And like
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: Philly is one of those teams that throws a lot
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: of money around, but that's that's tough for any team
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: to try to maneuver.
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: You have a kind of deal in place and don't
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: get the trigger.
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: And so that's sort of what I'm kind of getting at, yeah,
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: is like is there a chance that they have a
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: framework with a couple of different teams maybe that are
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: sort of in the running for it, where they sort
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: of all have an understanding of what it's going to take.
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: But it might just not happen now. It might happen
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: in July.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: Or August, right, not ideal because I'd love to see
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: him spend the spring with Drake may Well.
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: You're all time as possible counting on them at it
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: actually going through and it actually like happening, right, and
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: like if you put all your eggs in that basket, if.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: You oh, it's happening. Yeah, he misses some ota time,
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: but he still can get here for like mini camp yep,
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: you know if I mean, if you like again.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: You give him the playbook early.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: But this is a big if, like I don't, we
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: don't know that this is actually happening. But if they've
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: got a framework of a deal and they they you know,
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: let's say, ninety five percent sure that they're going to
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: make this deal come June first, it's not It's not terrible.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: That's probably why people need to be a little bit patient,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: because there's a chance you could end up with somebody
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: like Concepcion and then all of a sudden, a j.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Brown arrives posts Toptember or June first, and now go
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: got the week ago, Yeah, fans oft times in June.
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: For the uh Haines in Houston, right, sin be warm.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: Prior to Alec Pierce agreeing to terms with the Colts,
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: I was just curious about how he compared to our
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: twenty twenty five X receiver cation on Booty. While the
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: production from Pierce has clearly been higher, could it be
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: that we just haven't seen Booty's ceiling yet. Here are
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: the few twenty twenty five stats receiving yards per target
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: Booty eleven point nine to eight, Pierce eleven point ninety
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: four percentage of twenty plus pass plays per target Booty
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: two percent, Pierce twenty percent. Catch rate per target Booty
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: seventy two percent, Pierce fifty six percent. Yes, Pierce was
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: first in yards per catch twenty one point three, but
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: Booty was fourth sixteen point seven. Is it possible that
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: we already have our Alex Pierce on the team.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: No, it's a lot of this is pulsing it sole percentages.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: No, it's not possible.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:45:34Speaker 12: No.
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: I think they're different players completely stylistically like, and they
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: might both kind of get to the same areas of
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: the field, but I think they win differently. Like al
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: Pierce is a size speed specimen, like he is a burner,
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: you know, over the top of the defense. We were
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: talking about it a little bit with Aj Brown, Like
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: Kaishan Boody is very good at the catch point and
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: he boxes guys out, and he's physical and he's got
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: good hands and good strong play strength. And Alex pears
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: to me is like this guy's behind the defense, like
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: he's got that kind of long striding speed.
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: I'd also say that same ability to do what you're
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: talking about that Booty does a little bit.
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: Yeah, and I would say that he's probably a better
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: intermediate receiver than Booty, you know, and cuts crossers things
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: like that, does that a little bit better because he's
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: got more natural speed to him.
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: So he's four inches taller than Boy. Yeah, four inches.
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: Finally, there's a little No, I'm not saying he's this
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: good because he hasn't shown that he's that good. But
- 1:46:32Speaker 4: he's kind of a planet player. There are not that
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: many guys that run at his size the way he runs. Yep,
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: And there I think there was the same was it
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: the same draft?
- 1:46:44Speaker 7: This was Pierce was.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: So who you think about Boy? What a he was
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: twenty three twenty three, So there's one one year draft
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: class difference. Like I mean, it's the whole development thing
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: that they I don't know. Pierce might be destined to
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: be sort of the one trick pony in that he's
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: going to give you a lot of big plays during
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: the course of the season, and that's that's it. Like
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: he's fifty for one thousand not going to be you know,
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: seventy five for thirteen hundred, which I think he can be.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: But if he if he isn't, I still think the
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: fifty for one thousand is better than Booty by a
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: Lot by.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: Maria Love Booty Maria and Boise Idaho. I don't know
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: what amazes me more that you guys can talk about
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: football at nauseum for hours on end, or that I
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: listened to you for hours on it.
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: I mean we only do two? We could we could
- 1:47:45Speaker 5: do this for another two.
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: Come in the think tank.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Yeah, jay in La, I love the Evan is wrong
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: emails about ratio. Ratio is someone gets more likes than
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: the original posts. Example, Drake may is bad thirty five likes,
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: ply no he isn't. The Jets suck ratio six thousand likes.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: I don't care what AI says, stick to football.
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: So I think that this is uh. I've discovered that
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: I've showed my age a little bit on this one,
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: and I am getting a little bit older. Guys, So
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: like this happens from time to time. But you know
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: us og Twitter users that like started in like twenty ten,
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: nine twenty ten right around there go by my definition
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: of ratio. These new these kids these days are going
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: by this new definition of ratio. But we are the
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: ones that got the platform off the tarmac here right,
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: Like we're the yeah, like we're the ones that like it,
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: like kind of got the app rolling. So as you
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: get on Twitter, what year I want to say, like
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: twenty ten.
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: So you were late to the game.
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: I was probably a little bit.
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: I mean I was like big yeah, Like I was
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: in high school, so I probably didn't even have a
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: smartphone until you know, twenty ten.
- 1:48:54Speaker 7: I just think you did a poll.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was sixty forty, So anybody who's in
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: the sixty and I was in the forty. But yeah,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I had to act like idiots completely wrong, Like really
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: there was a significant portion of people that see it
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: the other way, and there's it's.
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: Not idiots wrong that poll because I had absolutely no idea.
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: I've never heard the term in my life.
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: I've never heard race.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: No, not on Twitter. I just checked November.
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: When you see like when you see a bad tweet
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, that dude's getting ratio, you're you're
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: like looking in the replies.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: Or nobody's liking it's just coming out like what I
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: thought you have. But we were in the minority, because
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: we're all get more minority, not thirds.
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: Now, there were some people that said it's a big
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: gap that we were both right. Yea, that it could mean.
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: It could mean either thing, so maybe it has double meaning.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: It could mean both. I'll concede that.
- 1:49:48Speaker 7: Yeah, it was April two thousand.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: And nine, two thousand and nine, good good dudes.
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: That was way out, Nocember. I thought it was did
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: they have to force you?
- 1:49:57Speaker 12: What was it?
- 1:49:57Speaker 17: What was it?
- 1:49:58Speaker 12: Like?
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: You? Was November twenty ten, and I thought by the
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: time I get on it, but you know, it was
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: going to be gone. I remember, I'm not I'm not joking.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: I remember might be gone describing it to me and
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: I'm like, so what you just post like little bits
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: of text and like, yeah, yeah, just that's what Twitter.
- 1:50:13Speaker 7: I had no concept, and then here we are.
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: I hated it then and I hate it now.
- 1:50:19Speaker 7: I'm march O nine, a thought leader.
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: I love a lot of but I was late.
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: I thought it was.
- 1:50:26Speaker 7: I think it was before that. I think blew up.
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: So I'm going to give credit slash blame. I don't know,
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: depending on how you take it. The first person that
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: I noticed using this at all was Ian Rappaport. He
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: was very early on Now that doesn't mean he was
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: early for Twitter. He went By the time it gets
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: on my radar, it's probably already an old band.
- 1:50:50Speaker 9: I was.
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: That is the first one that I saw that I was.
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: I was at an NFL conference I think was eight
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: and what my friend from the Chargers said, you should
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: get on Twitter so we.
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: Can you know, D I mean, you know, I don't
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: need to Chargers guys DM.
- 1:51:08Speaker 7: Twitter those Chargers.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: But when Rapaport he was, yeah, he was gone by that.
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: I don't think he was still with the Heralds, but
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: there he used to tweet all the time and random
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: stuff and I'd be like, what is this?
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: This is like stupid, There's nothing. Uh, the immediacy of
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: the news cannot be beat. There's no other platform that
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: can beat it for immediacy. The cesspool that has become
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: my mentions and people with way more followers than me
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: mentions are even worse.
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: That is not great, But that's the one I've one
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: good thing of not having a ton of followers.
- 1:51:39Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: I always like Twitter better because it's just the simplicity
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: and the ease of use.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: There's no question, like a day like it's gold.
- 1:51:47Speaker 12: It is.
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: What would I do without it?
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: On it?
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: You know, like if you're like trying to keep up
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: on breaking news, like on a day like yesterday, There's
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: nothing better.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: Matthew writes in I see a lot of Pats fans
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: jumping up and down asking for new wide receivers. To me,
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: if you can't get a true WR one chain mover,
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: they should largely leave the wide receiver position alone. They
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: already have a bit of a log log jam between
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: WR two to w R five on the team. Kyle
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: Williams has a lot of potential. Let's see how he
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: shakes out first. I don't think any of the guys
- 1:52:19Speaker 2: left in free agency or what the Patriots need at
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: wide receiver, I.
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: Would agree with that in free agency. Now the veteran
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: trade market is a is a totally different animal. But
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: I I've been I know you like Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: But like just stress like yeah, like I'm not going
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: to be like banging the table.
- 1:52:37Speaker 12: For me.
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: If the Patriots signed Romeo Dobbs, Like is that Nope,
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: it's the same as kind of what they already have.
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: Like maybe he's a little bits.
- 1:52:47Speaker 4: Better than what they have, but not like he's not
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: going to be as good as like probably even Digs
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: was last year.
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: You like, if we're gonna go with the WR numbers,
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: if Diggs is a WR one and Booty's a w
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: R three. Then Dobbs's a WR two, which is like,
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: we got a little bit better, but we didn't really move.
- 1:53:06Speaker 7: I just I think they have to make a move.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: I mean next year they have Kyle Williams and Ethnicism
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: are the only two wide receivers on a contract for
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: next year. I mean it's just when you look at
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: the jet like, they they have to figure this position out.
- 1:53:16Speaker 7: So whether it's A one or whatever it is, they've
- 1:53:18Speaker 7: got to figure it out.
- 1:53:18Speaker 4: And at the risk of drawing Fred's eye are here.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: I did notice over the weekend Mike Reese has his
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: you know Sunday notes. Yeah, ten ten, And the premise
- 1:53:31Speaker 4: first jumping off point was might there be a switch
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: in the focus instead of you know that top flight
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: wide receiver and free agency, you know, talking about Alec Pearson,
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: you know, sort of forecasting that it wasn't going to happen,
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: Might there be a transition to tight end, you know,
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: I mean you can fill this role and tight end,
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: And in doing so, he sort of opened up the
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: possibility of you know, like an Isaiah likely or a
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: clonk Wo. Sorry, yeah, but maybe I think he had
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: quotes some Steve Smith about tight ends, and then Mike
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: sort of talked about it a little bit, and you
- 1:54:07Speaker 4: got to kind of read between the lines a little
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: bit when you read Mike. One of the guys he
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: was talking about was Efton Chisholm, and I just wonder
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: if maybe they look at him as a potential volume guy.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: I think that would be a huge I see the quickness,
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: I see the hands, and I see a really small
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: guy who I can't imagine is going to hold up
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: in that role.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: Well, you said that for you know, twenty five years
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: about players.
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: And two of them held up.
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: I mean? Amon Doola was constantly I'm not talking about Edelman.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: Browned out and we turned out to be a good
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: wide receiver. Turned out to be.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: They were good players, but they didn't hold up, is
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: my point. Welker and Brown were very durable. Welker had
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: one injury and didn't miss any games because of it.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, but they all had me, they all had production.
- 1:55:02Speaker 17: No.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: No, I didn't say that they can't play. Yeah, like
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: I'm not saying can't play at all.
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: Okay, so in three years they will look to replaces
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: they've had now.
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: No, no, no, I don't know. I don't think he'll
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: hold up in a season. I think you'll be looking
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: to replace Chisholm in week four if you do that.
- 1:55:17Speaker 7: I just wonder if that's Drake's kind of guy.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Like, I just wonder if he is okay throwing to
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: smaller slot receivers that we become so accustomed to that Brady.
- 1:55:24Speaker 7: Loved and you know, we're always that's a good question.
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: But I think you know, is that that's right?
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: That's a great and that's a tight end thing, right,
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: Like if you get Eli Stowers and he's six foot
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: three and he's got some size and catch radius, but
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: he still has quickness that he can win at the
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: top of the route like McDaniels wants him to, but
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: he's got size like Drake wants. Like is that the
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: best of both worlds? It's not my thing, but like
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: maybe that's the way they look at it, you know,
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: it is instead of like the Edelman Welker mold of
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: a slot receiver, it's a little bit of a bigger
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: guy that you might be sacrificing a tiny bit of quickness,
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: but you're getting the catch radius in the strength.
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: Brian's in Florida. What's up? Brian?
- 1:56:05Speaker 10: Hey, good afternoon guys. I am I am not a
- 1:56:09Speaker 10: a J. Brown guy, but I would love to see
- 1:56:12Speaker 10: Brian Thomas in a Patriot uniform. Can you just give
- 1:56:16Speaker 10: us a quick comparison of the two? What are what
- 1:56:19Speaker 10: are the strength? What are the weaknesses?
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: Okay? Thanks?
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: Brian will give you a J. Brown versus Brian Thomas Jr.
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: H Different players Like Brian Thomas Junior is a vertical
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: go ball artist like that that's his best trick.
- 1:56:37Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: AJ Brown has always been a physical specimen, strong player,
- 1:56:41Speaker 5: great with the ball in his hands. Uh, you know
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: that's I think they're different types of players completely. Like
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: I think at this stage of his career, the AJ
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: Brown would be more like what you got out of
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: Diggs last year.
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: Is he more at an Kwon Bolton Bolden type of
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: player at this career?
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: Maybe? I mean I maybe I think he's still pretty
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: good with the ball in his hands. I think after
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: the catch he's still got because he's so strong, like
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: so he can just kind of run through tackles and
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: guys just kind of bounce off of him. So I
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: think there may be that element of his game is
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: a little bit better than Diggs's just ever always was.
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: But Brian Thomas Junior, like, I'll never like watching him
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: run slot fades with Jayden Daniels at LSU Like he
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: just fade, fade, fade like that. That's his number one trick.
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: He's very good at it.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: Okay, Kyle in North Carolina, you'll lend the show. What's up, Kyle?
- 1:57:34Speaker 18: Hey, guys, I have a hypothetical for you. So Trent
- 1:57:38Speaker 18: McDuffie just got traded for two first rounds, and so
- 1:57:41Speaker 18: did Max Crosby. If we could trade Criston Christian Gonzalez
- 1:57:45Speaker 18: straight up for Max Crosby, which guy would you rather
- 1:57:47Speaker 18: have him?
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: Trent McDuffie did not get traded for two first round picks?
- 1:57:52Speaker 18: Was it just one in something?
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:57:57Speaker 17: Why?
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: Don't we only there was a way we could find
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: that got traded for two first round picks?
- 1:58:02Speaker 9: He did?
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it was uh yeah, twenty twenty six first overall, First.
- 1:58:08Speaker 18: Do you think Kristan Gonzalez is worth more than Trent mcduffie' He.
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: Might be, but I wouldn't do I wouldn't trade Gonzales
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: for MaTx Crosby. I wouldn't do that. I'd keep Gonzales.
- 1:58:18Speaker 7: Yeah, it was a first.
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah. I mean they're five years apart, right,
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: Gonzalz is twenty three and Crosby's twenty eight.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: Right, that's my main factor there.
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would I would agree with you on that, McDuffie.
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: I think McDuffie's really good. I think Gonzales, because of
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: his size, might be a little bit better.
- 1:58:38Speaker 5: Duffy's a better playmaker. That's a that's a around the
- 1:58:42Speaker 5: ball a little bit.
- 1:58:43Speaker 4: That's a conversation you'd have to make. Would you make
- 1:58:45Speaker 4: that deal for if someone offered you that from for Gonzales.
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: Gonzalez is definitely a much better cover player, Like if
- 1:58:52Speaker 5: you're just asking him to just go up against one
- 1:58:55Speaker 5: on one with a receiver, Gonzalez is much better. Mcduffy's
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: got a little bit more of a no for the football.
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: He's a little bit better tackler, like you know, that
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: type of thing.
- 1:59:04Speaker 19: Playing totally different too, Yeah, place inside a lot. Yeah,
- 1:59:07Speaker 19: a little bit of matchup problem with that with a
- 1:59:09Speaker 19: guy like Gonzales at his age. Sure you get two
- 1:59:13Speaker 19: first round picks, but now you've got to replace Gonzales.
- 1:59:15Speaker 5: And so they'll even be Christian Gonzalez.
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: Right, if someone was going to give me two first
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: round picks, I'd do it.
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: They're not going to do it, but you're gonna have
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: to use one of them to replace.
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: Wouldn't keep saying if I didn't want to, if I
- 1:59:26Speaker 4: didn't want to give him the contract, I'm saying I would, right,
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: But why wouldn't you get that? Like, that's what I
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: don't think you get in two ones for Christian gonzalees me,
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: But that's what the Jets got for Sauce. Yeah, I
- 1:59:34Speaker 4: don't think that they and I think that's widely panned
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: is a terrible trade, Okay, I mean, I just don't
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: you think they got a lot of blowback for that trade.
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: Well, I think if the point of the caller is
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: that if Max Crosby can get two first rounders, Gonzales
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: should be able to, I kind of agree with.
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: Well, I kind of think of it more like just
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: comparing positions, like if Sace Gardner got you two first
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: round picks, if I'm the Patriots and I'm even like
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: entertaining the idea of trading, hell.
- 2:00:04Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a different art. I'm not trading him for
- 2:00:06Speaker 4: anything less than two First, I'm Elliot Wilma.
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: I'm saying we'll.
- 2:00:10Speaker 4: Find with that.
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: And we're not trading Gonzales, so everyone know, yes and
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: we don't want to. All right, that's going to be
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Catch twenty two
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: tomorrow and noon. They just keep going, They just keep going,
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: and we'll be back Thursday. See you then.
- 2:00:31Speaker 4: Hey, this is Matis.
