• 1:05
Speaker 1: little over a week two weeks ago.
• 1:08
Speaker 3: Hey it is Did you do your best to eat
• 1:10
Speaker 3: kale and cut out alcohol during the decade of January
• 1:12
Speaker 3: and notice absolutely zero difference? Well that's because it just
• 1:16
Speaker 3: doesn't work that way anymore.
• 1:17
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 1:17
Speaker 3: You can't just eat healthier and expect to lose weight
• 1:20
Speaker 3: these days, say with the times idiot is not calories
• 1:23
Speaker 3: and calories out anymore.
• 1:24
Speaker 4: Okay, we have a new system for you. Now. By
• 1:26
Speaker 4: the way, you're still going to need to remain in
• 1:27
Speaker 4: a chloric deficit in order to lose weight. Okay, pay attention.
• 1:31
Speaker 4: It's very straightforward. Also, your husband is still going to
• 1:34
  Speaker 4: crush it.
• 1:34
Speaker 3: Using the old system, so this doesn't apply to him,
• 1:37
Speaker 3: only to you, Okay, So just don't share this with him.
• 1:39
Speaker 4: It's not You're going to need supplements. Wage supplements you ask,
• 1:42
Speaker 4: every single one of them.
• 1:44
Speaker 3: Creating magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B, foll eight lions, main
• 1:49
Speaker 3: evening primrose, collagen peptides, chicken soup, motoroil.
• 1:54
Speaker 4: Hormone which hormones you ask? Nobody knows. Okay, we can't
• 1:57
  Speaker 4: measure it.
• 1:57
Speaker 3: Your hormones are on spring break for the next two years,
• 2:00
  Speaker 3: going buck wild.
• 2:01
  Speaker 4: It's a very easy formula.
• 2:02
Speaker 3: Okay, just take all of these supplements in the right
• 2:04
Speaker 3: combinations and amounts to maximize your results.
• 2:07
Speaker 4: It's either that or perfect lighting. We haven't quite narrowed
• 2:10
Speaker 4: down yet. We're also going to need to lit up
• 2:12
Speaker 4: on protein. Ask someone on the internet how much protein
• 2:14
Speaker 4: in a day would kill you, and then subtract ten grams.
• 2:17
Speaker 4: That's going to be your number right there.
• 2:18
Speaker 3: This is going to seem like a lot, but if
• 2:20
Speaker 3: you don't eat it, whatever microscopic amount of muscle you
• 2:22
Speaker 3: have left on your body is going to disappear and
• 2:24
Speaker 3: you're going to break your hip.
• 2:25
Speaker 4: It's science. So get to the gym.
• 2:27
Speaker 3: Okay, find the person with the most amount of muscles
• 2:30
Speaker 3: there and start a competition with them.
• 2:31
Speaker 4: Muscle burns fat, and you don't have any muscles at
• 2:35
  Speaker 4: your steps.
• 2:36
Speaker 3: You have plenty of time to do all this between
• 2:38
Speaker 3: your kids, your job, your dog, your husband. Okay, there
• 2:40
Speaker 3: are probably like five to seven women out there doing
• 2:44
Speaker 3: this that we know of every day.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: I hate the rains women can do it all. You
• 2:47
  Speaker 4: say you can't.
• 2:48
Speaker 3: It just proves how lazy you are as saying you
• 2:50
Speaker 3: need to get nine hours of sleep every night or
• 2:52
Speaker 3: none of this is going to work and lower your stress.
• 2:54
Speaker 4: Your cortisol levels are going to kill you. I'm a
• 2:57
Speaker 4: cottage cheese to learn more.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: Kalie, I'm just cracking up when I listen to that
• 3:02
Speaker 1: and you're sitting there with your eyes closed like you've
• 3:04
Speaker 1: got a headache. She's so dead pan, she's so funny.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: I just want to quote her funny lines back for
• 3:08
Speaker 1: the next ten minutes on the podcast.
• 3:10
Speaker 2: I just want to cry the whole idea that your
• 3:14
Speaker 2: husband will crush it using the old system. But it
• 3:17
Speaker 2: doesn't matter. We have been on this health fixed for
• 3:20
Speaker 2: the last three months. You have lost seven kilos? What
• 3:24
  Speaker 2: have I lost?
• 3:25
Speaker 1: It depends on a day.
• 3:26
Speaker 2: I go to bed and I may wake up and
• 3:28
Speaker 2: have put on a kilo and a half. And what
• 3:31
  Speaker 2: a time I wake up.
• 3:31
Speaker 1: We've almost I did nothing but sleep, We've almost stopped snacking.
• 3:36
Speaker 2: Don't drink alcohol, eating kale.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: You are plant based except for the oreos. Are oreos
• 3:44
  Speaker 1: plant based.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: I had a moment of weakness today, but for three months.
• 3:47
  Speaker 3: I have not.
• 3:50
Speaker 1: Five to seven women. Can I just de.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: Decade of January? It feels like I have been doing
• 3:56
Speaker 2: this forever. It feels like I've been doing this for
• 4:00
Speaker 2: Apra and there is no light at the end of
• 4:03
  Speaker 2: the tunnel.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: So I listened to that, and I love the delivery.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: I love what she says. It's so funny. Well, women
• 4:10
Speaker 1: can do it all, and if you can't do it all,
• 4:12
Speaker 1: you're just being lazy.
• 4:15
Speaker 2: At nine hours of sleep.
• 4:16
Speaker 1: As much as it made me laugh.
• 4:18
Speaker 2: Lower your stress like it's a choice.
• 4:20
Speaker 1: They're going, it's so hard, and it's so unfair.
• 4:24
Speaker 2: It's not calories in or calories out anymore. You've got
• 4:27
Speaker 2: to stay in a chloric.
• 4:29
Speaker 1: I love the line about going to the gym, find
• 4:31
Speaker 1: out how much protein per day is going to kill you,
• 4:33
Speaker 1: and then take off ten grams eat that start a
• 4:35
Speaker 1: competition with the fittest, muscliest, strongest person in the gym.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: The motor oil got me and I was when I
• 4:42
Speaker 1: saw the motor oil, I was thinking, I'm surprised that
• 4:45
Speaker 1: she didn't mention that if you're not taking dinosaur cartilage
• 4:48
Speaker 1: mixed with unicorn tears, are you even trying gluten free
• 4:51
Speaker 1: unicorn tears as well, because I'm sure that they are
• 4:54
Speaker 1: very very helpful for your tiredness.
• 4:56
Speaker 4: Have you even cut gluten out?
• 4:58
Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, A couple of serious things here, the modern
• 5:01
Speaker 1: wellness industrial complex is causing overwhelm, and I think that's
• 5:05
Speaker 1: really what she's getting at. I don't know if this
• 5:07
Speaker 1: has happened in your feet or not, but as we've
• 5:10
Speaker 1: gone on our health kick, I've sent you more than
• 5:12
Speaker 1: a few reels about things that we could be doing
• 5:14
Speaker 1: to be ultra healthy and ultra on it and ultra
• 5:18
Speaker 1: doing the stuff that we're supposed to be doing. And
• 5:20
Speaker 1: I don't know how well we're doing with that, but
• 5:21
Speaker 1: we're doing better than we've done years. Like we're really trying,
• 5:25
Speaker 1: but you just can't do it all. And social media
• 5:29
Speaker 1: is trying to make us healthier, but it's making us
• 5:32
Speaker 1: more and more tense and more and more worried about
• 5:35
Speaker 1: the stuff that we're doing to our bodies.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: The idea that you have to just take all of
• 5:40
Speaker 2: these supplements and she lists them all off, and obviously
• 5:42
Speaker 2: motor oil is in there, and so as line was made.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, but not dinosaur cartilage and unicorns is I've thought
• 5:48
Speaker 1: I was being so creative when I came up with
• 5:50
  Speaker 1: that gluten free.
• 5:51
Speaker 2: But it's so true, Like everywhere you turn, someone's telling
• 5:55
Speaker 2: you that you need another supplement because it's going to
• 5:58
Speaker 2: make you healthy and strong.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: How many of those those multi level marketing things have
• 6:01
Speaker 1: you signed up for because that's the thing that's going
• 6:03
Speaker 1: to help you to lose those kilos or get your
• 6:06
Speaker 1: arteries cleaned out, or make your mental health sore or whatever.
• 6:10
Speaker 1: It is, like somebody's always got this answer, and yet
• 6:14
Speaker 1: it just feels like it's more pressure, more cost, more stress,
• 6:17
Speaker 1: and it isn't working. After the break because I'm not
• 6:20
Speaker 1: living this hell that perry menopausal women are. I've got
• 6:24
Speaker 1: a couple of very sensible suggestions that I think might help.
• 6:28
Speaker 1: You can tell me whether they're good suggestions or not.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: I'm feeling a little bit nervous.
• 6:32
  Speaker 2: I'll get the.
• 6:40
Speaker 1: Okay, we've just listened to Big Time Adulting or big
• 6:43
Speaker 1: Time Adulting because sometimes people say it differently. Caitlin Murray.
• 6:46
Speaker 1: You can find her on all of the social media
• 6:48
Speaker 1: is if you need more of that in your life.
• 6:50
Speaker 1: You know what, she is really really great. I've laughed
• 6:52
Speaker 1: so much watching her content. Here's my number one tip.
• 6:57
Speaker 1: The best health plan is the one that you can
• 7:00
  Speaker 1: maintain long term.
• 7:02
Speaker 2: So eating kale all day every day is not going
• 7:04
  Speaker 2: to work.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: I don't know, can you eat kale every day? Long term?
• 7:07
Speaker 1: Is it working for you? You like the taste of kale?
• 7:09
Speaker 1: The text is a bit it's kind of dry. It
• 7:11
Speaker 1: needs something on it, I reckon. I like the way
• 7:13
Speaker 1: that we're doing it in the oven with the oil
• 7:16
Speaker 1: and the salt. Probably not the healthiest way to consume kale,
• 7:18
Speaker 1: but it tastes really good. The best health plan is
• 7:22
Speaker 1: the one that you can maintain long term.
• 7:24
Speaker 2: So along with that, I'm actually going to say, you've
• 7:28
Speaker 2: got to drown out all the voices because everyone's got
• 7:32
Speaker 2: a solution, and you've got to go with the one
• 7:35
Speaker 2: that feels right for you.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, there's a great irony in what I'm about
• 7:39
Speaker 1: to say, But I genuinely believe that as much as
• 7:43
Speaker 1: I got this from social media, and as much as
• 7:47
Speaker 1: we all consume it one way or another, I think
• 7:50
Speaker 1: that the best health plan also involves getting social media
• 7:52
Speaker 1: out of our lives. I just it keeps us up
• 7:55
Speaker 1: late at night. It stresses our brains. It keeps our
• 7:58
Speaker 1: brains fully active and fully stimulated all the time. We
• 8:01
Speaker 1: don't get the downtime for that thing in our brain
• 8:04
Speaker 1: called the default mode network to activate. That's the thing
• 8:07
Speaker 1: that does stuff when our brains don't have to be on,
• 8:10
Speaker 1: but social media just keeps our brains on all the time.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: I reckon, if we can stop snacking on social media,
• 8:17
Speaker 1: stop snacking on those empty calories, and stop drinking our calories,
• 8:21
Speaker 1: and if we can just move our body each day
• 8:23
Speaker 1: a little bit like the I think something like seventy
• 8:25
Speaker 1: five percent of Australian adults don't even move twenty minutes
• 8:29
Speaker 1: per day. That is so far below anything that's loosely
• 8:34
Speaker 1: healthy for us. If we can just do those three
• 8:36
Speaker 1: things and get some decent sleep, I reckon that's probably
• 8:40
Speaker 1: going to be sufficient. But again, the best health plans
• 8:45
Speaker 1: the one that you can maintain long term. Here's my
• 8:47
Speaker 1: second idea, Kylie, make healthy choices a family activity, not
• 8:52
  Speaker 1: a solo burden.
• 8:54
Speaker 2: So this can be a little bit tricky, and we've
• 8:57
Speaker 2: experienced it with our kids over the years as we've
• 9:00
Speaker 2: tried to improve our eating plan or our fitness levels.
• 9:05
Speaker 2: That if it's not the norm, there's a lot of pushback.
• 9:09
Speaker 2: Kids aren't excited about getting up early to go for
• 9:12
Speaker 2: a morning run or going for a morning swim or whatever,
• 9:15
Speaker 2: and they're definitely not interested when they've got a plateful
• 9:19
Speaker 2: of kale. So While your advice is definitely it's just
• 9:26
Speaker 2: great enough spot on, it does present some challenges. But
• 9:31
Speaker 2: as we've gone through that process, I think the biggest
• 9:33
Speaker 2: thing for us is just we try new things in
• 9:35
Speaker 2: our house. And so we've put a couple of cookbooks
• 9:39
Speaker 2: which I've really really enjoyed, and what we've done with
• 9:44
Speaker 2: it is I've just said, we're going to try each
• 9:47
Speaker 2: recipe in this book once. If we love it, it
• 9:50
Speaker 2: will go into rotation. But if we don't, we never
• 9:53
Speaker 2: have to have this again. Let's just give it one go.
• 9:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm thinking extending on what Eitlin said and your
• 10:01
Speaker 1: response to her Instagram real and I'm thinking about what
• 10:06
Speaker 1: you're saying about taking on the responsibility of trying some
• 10:09
Speaker 1: new foods or trying some new activities and making it
• 10:12
Speaker 1: family oriented. It's still extra stuff. It still requires effort.
• 10:16
Speaker 1: The thing is, I just think in life, there's stuff
• 10:19
Speaker 1: that is bought and there's stuff that is earned. Okay,
• 10:23
Speaker 1: let me use a really blunt example. Let's talk about
• 10:26
Speaker 1: a zepic, this weight loss drug. You give yourself an
• 10:28
Speaker 1: injection every day you lose weight. You don't earn it,
• 10:31
Speaker 1: you buy it. And I don't think that you value it,
• 10:34
Speaker 1: or prize it or honor it nearly as much, not
• 10:37
Speaker 1: to the people around you. Whereas if you do the
• 10:39
Speaker 1: stuff where you earn it, you just feel better about
• 10:41
Speaker 1: yourself and you start to increase your power. And it's
• 10:44
Speaker 1: the difference between purchasing progress versus earning progress, takeaway food
• 10:51
Speaker 1: versus home cooked food. That kind of thing. Right.
• 10:54
Speaker 2: Whenever we make a decision, though, there's a tradeoff, and
• 10:58
Speaker 2: the trade off is money or time. Literally, you either
• 11:02
Speaker 2: buy something or you have to invest the time. So
• 11:04
Speaker 2: you're investing money or you're investing time. Sometimes you're investing posts.
• 11:08
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 11:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, But when it.
• 11:10
Speaker 2: Comes down to it, like you said, takeaway meal money
• 11:14
Speaker 2: or making a home cooked meal is our time. If
• 11:17
Speaker 2: we want to be healthy, we can either pay for
• 11:20
Speaker 2: the drugs to do it fast and quick efficient, or
• 11:25
Speaker 2: we can invest the time.
• 11:26
Speaker 1: Which means waking up at four forty every day so
• 11:28
Speaker 1: you can go for that bike ride or go to
• 11:29
Speaker 1: the gym, or go for that walk or whatever.
• 11:31
Speaker 2: It is, so that we can do it.
• 11:34
Speaker 1: Okay, so our time is up. What is the take
• 11:37
Speaker 1: home message when you think about what Big Time Adulting
• 11:40
Speaker 1: has said. Caitlin has said in this and you think
• 11:43
Speaker 1: about your response and the fact that we've got so
• 11:45
Speaker 1: many parents who are listening to this, going, yep, I'm
• 11:47
Speaker 1: pretty well done that that was me or a t
• 11:51
  Speaker 1: take home.
• 11:51
Speaker 2: Message Number one, you're not alone.
• 11:54
Speaker 1: I thought you're going to say five or seven women
• 11:55
Speaker 1: can do it, going, you've been lazy, You're not alone.
• 11:59
  Speaker 1: I love it.
• 12:00
Speaker 2: We're all in this together. Be gentle and kind on yourself.
• 12:04
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
• 12:05
Speaker 2: You know, once upon a time we might have been
• 12:07
Speaker 2: a size two. We're not size twos anymore, and that's okay.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: But get out, live a healthy lifestyle, fuel your body
• 12:16
Speaker 2: with good whole foods, and you're.
• 12:18
Speaker 1: Going to feel much better, and just involve the family
• 12:21
  Speaker 1: and what you're doing. I think that's that's the takeout
• 12:23
Speaker 1: message for me, especially when I think about what our
• 12:25
Speaker 1: podcast is all about and what our lives are all about. Hey,
• 12:28
Speaker 1: thanks so much for listening. We hope that you found
• 12:29
Speaker 1: that enjoyable. We hope that it gave you a chuckle.
• 12:31
Speaker 1: And also we were serious enough and useful enough to
• 12:34
Speaker 1: give you at least something looking like resembling a way forward.
