- Canon Stogner: And welcome back to the Saturday Slate Show. Andrew doom and gloom for me all over. Just a total letdown of a weekend. In all three phases of the game, you got Sarah Kalana gets pants on ESPN, the worst channel for that to happen to Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: the Panthers lose to the Brianies. At one o'clock, it was a ref show, too many penalties, but we're not a NFL slate show. We're a Saturday slate show. And then to just cap it all off, the Braves had to play at two o'clock against the Phillies. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: So just a poor, poor weekend. I honestly thought about not filming a pod this week. Just wasn't in the mood for it. Didn't Just had nothing to give. but yeah, you got on your commander's shirt, your commander's hat. You seem to be feeling well. How are you? Andrew Wright: yeah, I'm good, man. They they saved me from what would have otherwise been a big letdown. the Cubs lost out on home field advantage in the wild card round. So they gotta travel to San Diego. South Carolina, as you said, pants in front of God and everybody. Just awful show in. So yeah, fully expected the reign and the Super Bowl champions to come in and dominate yesterday. Didn't happen, see, I'm good. Commander saved me. Good weekend. Overall. Canon Stogner: Yeah, well let's let's go ahead and jump into the fighting cocks. They're not gonna lay down yet. They are not gonna lay down yet. took a loss forty nine to eighteen. it was a long night. I could do nothing but just laugh. You know, they break off a run on the very first play, and then they go four and out, no points from like the fifteen, twenty yard line. And then they go three and out on defense. Offense gets the ball again to the red zone ish. Scores should be six to nothing at minimum, maybe ten to nothing, if not fourteen to nothing. Very next drive, Alabama scores on the first play. And then after that, it was night night. Couldn't stop the bleeding, couldn't stop anything. Offense couldn't get anything going. Lenore Sellers did not get better from last Saturday. If anything, he potentially got worse. but it was it was interesting just watching the game and hearing the commentators talk about it because like you could tell they were even like seemingly shocked on how bad he he is. I can like it's hard to even take serious like how. bad he is and how Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: bad everything is right Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: now. And to put the nail in the coffin, Dylan Stewart suspended indefinitely. Me personally didn't think it warranted a suspension. You know, yeah, he lost his cool. But first of all, you got grown men that are pushing each other and blocking each other every play, trying to kill each other. You're getting your butts whooped, you know, it's Straftier for you. You stayed in South Carolina when you probably had a lot of people offer you money, and you're getting your face dragged into the ground and you get up and punch somebody. Punching somebody happens every game. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: The referee was standing there looking at it and threw the flag but didn't eject him. Which tells me that the guy blocking him was probably running his mouth a little too much, or maybe said something that was a little, I don't want to say crossing the line, but you know. Edge in the line. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: so I could understand that. And it's hard to def to defend that, but yeah. And then, you know, he gets in a little interaction with Shane Beamer. I think people were making that a massive deal. Like he gave him the cold shoulder, anything. What do you want him to do? If he turned back around and you started yelling at Shane Beamer, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: then it'd been he doesn't respect his coach, blah, blah, blah. I don't think he gave him the cold shoulder at all. I think They were walking side by side, which is what how a coach and player interaction goes. They were walking. Now if he was like, you know, not facing while they were just standing there, yeah, that's a little different. But saw nothing wrong with that. And then later on in the game, he, you know, is asked to come off the field and doesn't want to, which another thing of me defending Dylan Stewart. I didn't think was that wrong either. You're obviously the best player. You're obviously if you can be on the field, they want you on the field. And it to me, it looked like he just told the coaches and Julian Walker that he was like, I'm good, I'm good. Like, I don't need to come off. I'm good. That's Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: what his hand motions and body language looked like to me. So I think a lot of people are just blowing a lot of things out of proportion. And then mid-afternoon yesterday, he suspended indefinitely. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And so You know, a l a lot of us or friends, we think something may have happened in the locker room Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: just because he was projected to play only twelve to fifteen snaps during the game and he ended up playing probably the whole second half, the majority Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: of the second half. So, you know, my dad was calling it the Tuscaloosa revival. He said something Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: happened in that locker room. And he said this season's about to turn on its head and we're about to go dominate. So we'll see. We'll see if the Tuscaloosa revival makes its way back to Columbia to Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: play Kentucky. but I just think the biggest thing for me was I think Shane Beamer knows his seat's hot, and I do think his season could be coming to an end soon. I think this is potentially his last week if they lose to Kentucky at home. but I think the move that he made to suspend Dylan Stewart was either A save your job or save your culture type move. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: you know, if you wanted to save your job, I think you probably Don't suspend him for a game, maybe for a half, just because you need him on the field. And he is really he hasn't necessarily lit up the stat sheet yet, but he has made a massive impact being on the field this year. And you know every play that he's in there. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: or was it a save your culture thing where you know you're trying to gain the players' trust back and you're suspending the best player on the team who's not following what you're asking to be done. So we'll see what goes on. What were your thoughts? Andrew Wright: just very, very disheartened by the result. It kinda felt like after those first two drives with no points and then Alabama hitting the deep ball after the second drive, it kinda felt like over. Like, all right, we've got down there twice, didn't do anything, then they just do that, make it look way too easy. It's like, all right, probably gonna be a long night ahead. And it was. Like I said, kinda unfathomable to imagine how bad Lenoris has looked. Like it should almost be impossible to get as worse as he has from a freshman in twenty four to now this season, two seasons later basically. So that's really, really disappointing. There were some things to kinda like Matt Fuller has looked really good all year, I think. Like that's encouraging. The O line has looked better at times. That's been encouraging. But outside of that, just offensively, just so much, like what are we doing? It's j it just shouldn't be happening, I don't think. And then with the whole Dylan Storch situation, it definitely got blown out of proportion a little bit, I think. Something definitely happened though, I would say. For it to go from all that, like, okay, we see players and coaches getting into it sometimes. We see players telling guys to get off the field 'cause they're good. It's like that was a bit cr like a bit not unnormal. It happens, but yeah, for him to be suspended indefinitely, I don't think he'll ever play another snap for us. I just don't see Shane Beamer as the kind of guy to suspend somebody and then let come back. And I can already see the whole Shane Beamer spiel. If Dylan Stewart is announced that he's coming back, you know, it'll be Dylan, Dylan spoke to the team and it was a very, very emotional speech and the player the players want him back. So we're gonna let him come back. I can already picture that if that is a decision. I don't think it will be. I think we've probably seen him play his last nap for South Carolina. So that'll be kind of interesting to see play out over the next day or two. I think we're supposed to have a decision either today or tomorrow from Beamer about that. So yeah, just very, very disappointing result on the field that kind of got even worse. yesterday afternoon with him being suspended indefinitely. So Canon Stogner: Yeah. here's here's my here's my thing. You know, when he was announced suspended yesterday, nobody was really using quotes, but I saw a quote on the state newspaper and Shane Beamer said, We have decided to suspend Dylan Stewart indefinitely. I will make a decision in the next day or so on what his future looks like at South Carolina. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But he would definitely miss a Kentucky game. That to me, it doesn't sound like something that happened during the game problem. That sounds to me something that's just been kind of spiraling. Andrew Wright: Building up, yeah. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Because he's clearly not suspending him just for what happened in the game yesterday. I mean, you go look at USC's, which we'll get into in a minute. We g you go look at USC's defender who almost killed Dante Moore, and he was suspended a game. And he was pretty Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: much He had to be suspended again. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: But that was just to save USC's own butt by suspending him. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: I it it's something off the field that we're just not hearing about. Andrew Wright: Uh-huh. Canon Stogner: and South Carolina fans don't deserve to know about. They Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: I I wish never mind. I'll save that for another day. 'cause Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: they're gonna get what they're they're gonna get what they want because they're very powerful. But I'll save it for another day. yeah, long night defense looks bad, secondary looks bad. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: offensive line, that's been the problem for the last five or six years since Shane Beamer has been there and been very well. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: and I just I just hate his going like this because I truly think Shane Beamer cares and is wants to win so Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: bad. you know, if he didn't want to be there, I think he would have taken the wet or the Virginia Tech job last year when it opened up. And that's what a lot of fans thought he was going to do. But South Carolina's probably one of the hardest jobs in America just because of how ruthless the fans are. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Yeah. Canon Stogner: so but I don't want to keep defending them or defending Dunless Stewart, but South Carolina has ran into two buzzalls. I mean, you Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: kind of earlier in the year you kind of think, okay, this is the easier part of their schedule. Well, I think now it's kind of flipping on its head. I Andrew Wright: Yeah, I don't I don't think there is a easy part of the schedule Canon Stogner: You obviously obviously Andrew Wright: anymore. Canon Stogner: Yeah, but you obviously worry about Georgia still, but other than that, you've got Oklahoma Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: beatable. You've got AM, beatable, you've got Tennessee who is beatable, you got Arkansas who's beatable. Weeks ago, yeah, we're probably saying Alabama, Mississippi State gotta have it. I think Mississippi State and Alabama beat probably all three of those teams. So, but anyways, Sac Carolina has another ranked matchup this week versus Kentucky. but yeah, that's all I've got for South Carolina. let's jump into Texas, Tennessee. Texas wins this game 20 to 17 after a last minute Hail Mary that fell to the ground to result in a Tennessee loss. I thought it was an extremely It was a hard game to watch. I r it was really a hard game to watch. that game Tennessee could have taken that game and turned it on its head at any point. And they couldn't do it. And I think it really all boiled down to having a freshman quarterback that he was spiraling. You could just tell it. Turn it did you get to watch any of the Vikings Buccaneers game yesterday? Andrew Wright: I it was on red zone, so I kinda periodically had it on and I'll turn it on the very end when that last drive on Jalen on Jalen James. Canon Stogner: Well okay, well I watched I watched on the way home the second half and the Tennessee Texas game was the exact depiction of how that game went. It was a punt off. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I mean the Vikings returned a kick yesterday, and then Tennessee obviously returns their punt to tie the game up at ten. But yeah, it was a punt off. Tennessee's defense looks pretty good. Texas's defense is really good, a Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: lot of pressure. but yeah It sucks because we made that stupid bet. And those that's one of those games where they should win. I still think Arch Manning doesn't doesn't look that great. Hollywood Smithers. Hollywood Andrew Wright: Yeah, yeah. Canon Stogner: Smothers was active and ready to play. He didn't play at all. Cam Coleman went down with the injury. Just not not a great game that I thought it was going to be. but yeah, what were your thoughts on that? Andrew Wright: yeah, that Texas defense is insane. Colin Simmons, n one of the more stupid penalties we've ever seen from a player. That and the Dylan Store AR fifteen are some of the some of the craziest things I've ever seen. But you take away, you look past the penalty, and he had a monster game with five sacks. I think I heard there were I think I saw or heard sixteen sacks total in the game combined from both teams, which was the most in an FPS game in like thirty years. So two really good defenses, and like you said, that game boiled down to Faison Brandon not having the experience to win those big games yet. Game just a little too fast for him. I think it's a different game in three months if they were to play again. Just he's he'd have a little more experience under his belt then. But yeah, really, really dominant for Texas defense. Like you said, Arch only had five incompletions, but didn't think he was anything spectacular. He had he looked really, really good on that first drive, getting them down the field with some throws, but nothing that made me go. Man, we were so wrong about him. Like I still believe what Canon Stogner: Arch Andrew Wright: we said about him. Canon Stogner: Arch is very Arch is very good on script. He's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah, he is. Canon Stogner: very good when the play manipulates the way it's drawn out to do to be. And he's usually Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: pretty decent on that first drive when they've scripted a whole drive. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But yeah, outside of that first drive, he didn't look great. They couldn't really run the ball. Andrew Wright: No. Canon Stogner: Tennessee could not run the ball at all. That's another thing. They couldn't get the running game going, which I think put Fezon Brandon in a bad spot, but there were some throws he was making where like he was like one hopping it to the receiver, Andrew Wright: yeah. Canon Stogner: like feet set and everything. So that worries me for Tennessee because we're going kind of through the same process right now with our quarterback. Andrew Wright: Yeah, yeah. Canon Stogner: And it's a tough spot to be. It's a very tough spot to be. And I think he was I don't I thought he a little bit more like he had a little bit more escapability. He was getting run down a lot. Like Andrew Wright: Yeah, and he was he was he was running into some sacks himself, kinda turning into some. He w yeah, I thought he was a little better bit a little bit better for a runner than he was. Canon Stogner: Glad you I'm glad you said running into sacks. That is what I wanted to talk about. We're going off no notes today. I decided not to do any notes, no script, just Andrew Wright: Cook 'cause I I didn't either, so that's good. Canon Stogner: Yeah, so we just go in just off the head just off what I watched. Arch has zero awareness. Andrew Wright: Zero. Canon Stogner: Like it's outside it's outside of the like running across the line of scrimmage and throwing it. Like I I can understand that just a little bit. Now it happened twice. And another thing about it is like usually when somebody does that, like it's it's very close if they got it off or not. He's a yard or two. Like past it. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Like he's like a whole yard, not a football or a foot, like a whole yard or two past it when he's doing Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: it. but my other problem about his awareness is like he took that, he took a hit on Saturday versus Tennessee where like you could see it coming and he didn't brace himself at all. Like and he like he in the slow-mo replay, like he never he never even like expected the hit. It was only like a third down scramble. Like he never expected the hit, but like he was in front of him the whole time. So I don't understand like what he's not seeing on the field. And then you go back and look last week when they played at home, was it UL Monroe or something? Andrew Wright: U Tep I UTEP or UTSA wanted them. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah, UTSA. And he takes a massive hit and his helmet comes Andrew Wright: Massive. Canon Stogner: off. But like it wasn't like these people were coming out of nowhere. Like they're Andrew Wright: Ha ha ha. Canon Stogner: setting up to hit him and he's not seeing it. And Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I remember like even when Q when Ewers was there, they brought Arch Manning in for a scramble or something or for a QB design run, his freshman year. And he got knocked like knocked unconscious. Like he had to he Came in for a run and left the game with a concussion, like wobbling off the field. Like he had zero awareness. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I'll save that for another day. I've been really hard on Andrew Wright: Nice. Canon Stogner: him. number two, Georgia thrashed Oklahoma at home, like we expected. It's really an ugly game from both sides. John Matir. he's this might be the worst year of quarterbacks ever. Just Andrew Wright: Ever is awful. Canon Stogner: or like for at least the hyped up, hyped up guys. he looked Andrew Wright: Yeah. No. Canon Stogner: bad. I really didn't think. Georgia played that great. They still look very good. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I think the Georgia made some mistakes on their own as well. but it really just wore mount and kinda how everybody expected it was going to go. What were your thoughts? Andrew Wright: yeah, John Mateer is is really fighting to be the worst quarterback in the SEC. He has looked awful. Michigan broke him. I don't know what they did to him, but they broke him. And once again, could go back to what you said before the season started. He got too big. He can't throw anymore. He's too big. It could be that we don't know. But he's he's Canon Stogner: Muscle man. Muscle Mateer. Andrew Wright: he's awful. Like there there's no hope for them anymore this season, I don't think, with as bad as he is. You can't watch him play. For four quarters and be Man, we got a shot the rest of the year. So yeah, d that's just very disappointing for them. And then Georgia, like you said, they looked okay. Couple of those touchdowns on defense, I believe. But yeah, they very much a thrashing, kind of what we thought. Like we discussed with the spread picks. So we both say we took the spread at twenty eight and that's what the margin ended up being. So yeah, very, very kind of what we expected from that. moving on we'll go to Ole Miss in Florida as Cannon snacks on his breakfast this morning. Florida throttled Ole Miss. Cannon, you wanna jump back in? Canon Stogner: Yeah. Florida offense look as advertised. they dominate Ole Miss fifty two, twenty-eight. It kinda I think the game just kinda got off to a fast start for Ole Miss, which was not what they wanted at all. You know, Florida gets the ball, goes right down the field, like no resistance at all. And then Ole Miss comes on the field, you got the best quarterback in college football, and they run the ball four straight times. And go for it on fourth and one, don't get it. and then Florida comes back, scores again. Then the very next drive, Trinidad gets hurt on the second or third down. so yeah, I think the game just got moving way too fast for them. and once the crowd got in it, once Florida knew that they could actually, you know, play with this team and compete against them, it was over with. I didn't get to watch much of the second half where it really the game got very good. I know Florida kind of pulled away at the end, but it was a lot closer Andrew Wright: Yeah, it was. Canon Stogner: in the final score, early and late, probably later in the second half as well. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but yeah. Very good game. Florida looks really good. Stoops, you're not right about a lot, you're right about Florida. Andrew Wright: Yeah, all over it, yeah. yeah, yeah. Canon Stogner: And it's gonna be a good Christmas for Buster Faulkner 'cause there's gonna be teams throwing Dollars at him. I mean this he's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: gonna he's gonna get paid. He kind of reminds me of Ben Johnson a lot. Not offensive style, but that just kinda comes out of nowhere and now everybody wants him. so yeah, if Shane Beamer gets fired, we'll have another episode about that. Andrew Wright: Yeah, Florida Farta looks really freaking good. Jaden Ball's been the best running back in the country this season, probably. He has been unreal. I think in SEC play, he's got about three hundred yards and six touchdowns already. So he's been unreal. Trinidad did his absolute best to get them back in that game in the second half. It just kind of boiled down to their defense, could not get a stop at any point, which is so like not what we expected of them. Like we expected him to be able to put up the points. But we did not expect their defense to look as bad as it has. So that's very shocking considering who their head coach is with Pete Golding. He's the defensive guy, the defensive mind. So that's been very odd to see how poorly they've been on that side of the ball. Like I think Florida's good. I don't think Florida's fifty-two points good against what's supposed to be a really good defense. So that was shocking. Yeah, Florida looks really good, man. And I'm we had our episode at the beginning, and like I said, I was all over Florida. My answer to the question of who has a chance to be ranked. way higher than they are then in September was Florida and now they've boom cracked the top ten. So yeah, really, really good season for them. their season's gonna come down to two games here in a few weeks against Texas and Georgia. We'll kind of see really what they are then. But they have a couple winnable games up until then. So they could very well go into that game against Texas at six and here in about three weeks. So it'll be good worth keeping an eye on them against Missouri and South Carolina before they go f they go play Texas. So yeah really, really good win for Summerall and Buster Falton like you said, heck of a play caller. And he's gonna have he's gonna be a hot commodity in the off season. Canon Stogner: Yeah, he is. I saw somebody say the other day, it was like wait till Lane Kiffin's guys leave Ole Miss. Like wait till they graduate. Andrew Wright: They're yeah. They're in trouble. Canon Stogner: That defense is horrible. Andrew Wright: It's awful. Like I it just so like so unfathomable. That's what there were supposed to be. We know they have Trinidad, we they had Kaman Lacey, like there was no questions there and it really Canon Stogner: Yeah, but you gotta think, like Pete Golden, like he might be an okay recruiter, but he's been with two good recruiters with Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Like both of those guys recruit well on their own. but I I r I like Pete Golden, like I I like hearing him talk. I Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: feel like he's a good coach. so I don't know what it is about them right now. Maybe they can figure it out, but they've put out some three duds so far defensively. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: In the Florida and then Louisville game and LSU in the second half. so yeah, maybe they can figure out Wisconsin beats Penn State at Penn State. Penn State was ranked number 13. Wisconsin pretty much not walked him off, but scored a late, late touchdown and a bus of coverage and big win for Luke Fickle. He Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: was one of the guys that we said was on the hot seat for the Big Ten this year. And that is the biggest win that he's had so far to go into Penn State. Penn State had been rolling. Matt Campbell, you know, turning Penn State back into powerhouse. And then boom, they lose. So massive win for Wisconsin. Andrew, what are your thoughts on Luke Fickel? Andrew Wright: I think Luke Fickle I guess my thoughts would be he saved his job. Like he's he's had a rough go there the last couple of years. Like he kinda blew up when he got Cincinnati to the playoff. That's the that they were the first like real like group of five or whatever team to get in in a four team playoff. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: And that kind of blew him up as a coach. And it's been a really, really rough go at Wisconsin for him since then. But that win Saturday was like like you said, that's his signature win there. And you could kind of tell how much it meant to him, like post game, seeing how like happy he was and overjoyed he was to get that win. So very good win for him. Like I said saved his job at least for a few more weeks, maybe probably the rest of the year, honestly. Unless they just go on some crazy losing streak. But and then for Penn State, you just cannot lose that football game. Up seventeen to not now it wasn't the first half, but up seventeen to nothing at home and then up twenty to ten with four minutes left, I think. Like that is not a game you can lose. Don't know what that does to their confidence. I think they were kind of feeling probably pretty good. Like, hey, we're four minutes away from going to four and with a still like a pretty light schedule ahead of us. And then they kinda blow that game. So kinda have to see how they bounce back from that. But yeah, really good win for Fickle in Wisconsin. They really needed that. He really needed that. And then really bad loss for Matt Gamble and Penn State. That they should not have lost that game. You can't lose that game in any universe. Canon Stogner: Yeah. I could jump into two different games right now just based off what you just said. But let's go to the Michigan Iowa game. This game, you know, panned out the exact way we thought it was going to. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Just with the score and the defense and the offense. I thought Bryce Underwood played pretty good. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: he's getting a lot better. And, you know, just going off from week one to this past weekend, week four, he has improved a ton. You can tell he has a lot more confidence. Iowa looked very good. They were just mean, nasty, you know, gritty, not gonna give up. And then it came down to the last play, and quarterback made a good throw in the corner of the end zone. And, you know, tight end made a good catch. So I will massive win for them because that, you know, now they're hosting game day this week. The world's gonna be watching face off against Ohio State. And then Michigan loses a game at home, which I don't wanna say surprise, but you kinda knew it was gonna come at some point after how Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: a couple of their games have already played out. You you knew they were gonna eventually have to lose one. so very big win for Iowa and all the fans over there. What were your thoughts on game? Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's a that's a humongous win for Iowa. Kinda was back and forth between this one in Florida and Old Miss who kinda called obviously knew that Iowa had the ball with the chance to go in. So tuned in for that last drive and just that's so big for Kirk Ferrets. I don't really remember any like just super big win that they've had in like previous years. So I mean they're always nine and three, averaging ten points a game, it always feels like. So they're they've won games obviously, but it I've never like I don't remember any just humongous game like this, like on the road. against one of the like blue blood powerhouses of the Big Ten and they go in there and stun on the last play of the game. So that is so massive for them and their confidence. Like you said, they got game day now. I think game day was probably going to either that Alabama, Mississippi State game or Miami and Clemson without this win for Alabama. Canon Stogner: No, absolutely. Are you crazy? Andrew Wright: They got the seven thirty ABC time slot. Canon Stogner: Have you seen the spread for that game? Andrew Wright: Yeah. They got the seven they got the seven thirty ABC Time slot. Canon Stogner: Eighteen and a half? Eighteen and a half Year's the Slate's poor this week. Eighteen and a half at home and game day's going. They went to game they went to game day there last Andrew Wright: Where else was it? It was I it was an option. Canon Stogner: year. They went to game day there last year against LSU and couldn't move the ball in offense. Andrew, they're not even the top twenty five like receiving votes rankings. Game day going there. You just you're disgusting. Andrew Wright: It w I bet it was top three on the list. Canon Stogner: What? Andrew Wright: Clemson. If Michigan would have won this game, I I would be willing to bet a lot of money that the top three games on their list were Alabama, Mississippi State, Canon Stogner: Enter. Andrew Wright: Florida, Missouri, and Miami Clemson. Canon Stogner: Why do you think they would go to why do you think they want to go to that? Andrew Wright: Because Clemson is three and one and has a chance to really be good if they can s do something. I guarantee you it was Canon Stogner: Andrew, Andrew Wright: in their it was in their top three. Look at the slate. Canon Stogner: do you not you don't think like that they don't they're going to Notre Dame when they play Miami? Andrew Wright: Probably yeah. Well well, hang on, well hang on, hang on, hang on. Don't out like they can't go see the same team twice in a few weeks. They've done it twice already this year. Canon Stogner: Well, no, but Notre Dame games at home. Andrew Wright: I think Clemson would've been on the top three. Canon Stogner: you think they went there before they went to Florida, Missouri? Andrew Wright: I said Florida, Missouri was that was the top three. Was Mississippi State, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, Clemson, Miami. Would have been the top three landing spots for them if Michigan would've beat Iowa. Canon Stogner: What but what about what about Alabama and Mississippi State? Andrew Wright: How many times do I need to say it? The top three places would have been Mississippi State, Missouri, or Clemson. I truly believe that. But it doesn't matter 'cause I will won, they got game day. They're probably gonna get slaughtered by Ohio State, but that's okay. They'll have a fun time at game day. Yeah, huge win for Alwa. Shout out Will, he was all over that. Canon Stogner: That's hilarious. This is a joke. Like it really is. It Andrew Wright: You're probably right they're probably saving that for Charleston Southern in a few weeks. They'll go there when they play Charleston Southern. It's a humongous match. Canon Stogner: Yeah, this is the gauntlet now for clumsy. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Eighteen and a half point spread though, is that the biggest spread under Dabo era in the last ten years? Andrew Wright: Probably. I I can't yeah, it's almost gotta be. Canon Stogner: At home. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Crazy. Never seen anything. Andrew Wright: I ain't putting it past him to shot the world to. Canon Stogner: all right, number sixteen, Louisville falls to Wake Forest late in the game. Louisville's kicker had two chances to tie the Andrew Wright: What? Canon Stogner: game up. and he missed one and then the other one got blocked to end the game. So tough loss for Louisville. They are now two and two. And for a team that's looked pretty dang good this year, kind of sucks to, you know, wake up today and you're two and two. But Wake Forest, Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: honestly, they've looked pretty decent. You know, they gave Miami all they could handle. And they look pretty decent. Georgia Southern, my goodness, they've had a pretty tough schedule so far. They lost to Houston forty two to twenty-eight, but pretty good game. They played at home. Missouri, Mississippi State. This is the game I want to talk about as well. Camaro Taylor continues to just impress, impress, impress. Austin Simmons from Missouri look very good. It was really just a good game of like these two teams that are up and coming in the SEC. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I thought it was a very well coached game. Both coaches are very good. and it came down I'm trying to remember the the last play. I remember Drankwitz walking on the field. Andrew Wright: similar to Hell Mary and last play of the game, I think. Canon Stogner: That's right. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: That's right. Yeah. so very big win for Mississippi State. I think they have now moved into the top fifteen or is there number sixteen? Andrew Wright: There's sixteen. Yeah, they're number yeah, number sixteen. Canon Stogner: Yeah. So very big win for them. They've got a massive game this week versus Alabama. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: it's at home. So Andrew Wright: Yeah, I I probably honestly paid more attention to this one in the second half than I did the Sakura game. Had both of them on, but was definitely watching this one more just because like you said, Austin Simmons, Kamario Taylor, just a really good game between two really good quarterbacks ultimately. I thought Austin Simmons did a lot of things well. I thought Camario did a lot of things well. he did throw another interception, so that's two and two weeks for him. So they have to clean that up a little bit. But Obviously he got he kinda got banged up a little bit in the second half and was limping off the field after a drive and I was like, Man, I got no clue who's behind him if he's really hurt. And I feel sure this team will look completely different if he can't play, but obviously he did come back out and then took them on two scoring drives to tie the game and then take the lead. So yeah, just he's been an absolute superstar. And like it could e you could easily say that the two best quarterbacks in the country are both in Mississippi right now, with him and Trinidad. That egg ball. Thanksgiving weekend is going to be insane. Just QB play wise, environment wise. Those two teams might score fifty apiece in that game. That'll be really fun to look forward to. But yeah, just humongous win for Mississippi State. I think that I think the broadcast said that was their first ranked win since twenty seventeen, I think. Which is crazy that they've gone almost ten years without a ranked win. So yeah, really huge for them. And we'll we'll really, really get to see what they're made of on Saturday at home. against Alabama. That is a massive game. You made it. Canon Stogner: So you mean to tell me you think the state of Mississippi quarterbacks with Trinidad and Camaro Taylor Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: is better than the state of South Carolina with Tate Reynolds and Lenor Cellars? Andrew Wright: it's tough man. They're like one A and one B right now. Canon Stogner: Yeah, you got you give me South Carolina every day. that's just a joke for anybody who doesn't understand sarcasm. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Please don't do that. Canon Stogner: legit though, South Carolina, like the state of South Carolina, we were to rank like quarterbacks by state, they would probably be forty eight. Andrew Wright: What are the worst? Alaska wouldn't even have one. They'd be Canon Stogner: They would Andrew Wright: behind Alaska. Canon Stogner: Yeah, like. They were beautiful. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Not yeah. Not not good. Not good at all. Canon Stogner: LSU throttle Tex AM 35 to six at home. the biggest news that from this game was Wit Weeks is maybe done for the season, maybe done for majority of the season. I mean, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: some conflicting reports coming out. We'll probably know a little bit more about it today. but I say massive loss for them. LSU has really been battling the injury bug so far this year. And even Lane Kiffin said yesterday, he said, like, This team, but a lot of money and a lot of time was spent on this team. He said, but like I said, when I got hired, like this team's not gonna be deep the first year that I'm here, like and he pretty much he pretty much admitted that it could be a long year based Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: off the injuries they've already had. so it'd be very interesting to watch how the rest of their season transpires. It kind of feels like the buzz of LSU has fallen off a little bit. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it has. Canon Stogner: I don't know, like when the game started, like the crowd, it was a night game in Death Valley and they take a lot of pride for the you know, night game in Death Valley. And the crowd was dead, like all every seat wasn't full. You got a ranked game at home, Texan is bad, but either way, you know, you got this brand new coach. It's kinda it's a weird, weird vibe right now in LSU. I think that old miss game just took so much out of them. Andrew Wright: Uh-huh. Canon Stogner: But even like as a college football fan, I wasn't even excited about watching that game. Like I I didn't hardly turn it on at all. so yeah. Very odd game, but they did just dominate LSU Wit Weeks out for a while. Tradez Green out for the while out for a while. Andrew, your thoughts on Marceau Reed and Mike Elko. Andrew Wright: Marcel's kind of in the same boat, it feels like, as Lenores and a couple of these other quarterbacks in SEC that have just regressed so much over the last couple of years, which that obviously that's not the way it's supposed to work. It's you're supposed to progress, not regress. And so that's been just weird to see. I think it was Will before the season said that Mike Elka might be one of those guys that we kinda didn't think was on the hot seat that might end up getting there, and that seems to be like by the week. Coming more and more. I don't think he's in danger of getting fired tomorrow or anything. But if they kind of if they go on a run here and they lose a couple more games in a row with that roster they've built. Now we know we we kinda said for you, they lost a lot on defense. We weren't very sure how they were gonna perform and it's been bad so far. So yeah, just they're in a really weird spot. Marcel Reid, I just don't I don't think they really trust him anymore to do anything. He just hasn't been impressive these last two weeks. And see their season, they are kind of just hanging on by a thread at this point. They'll basically have to win out and probably get some help to even have a chance at anything. And Canon Stogner: nah, they're dead. They're dead. Andrew Wright: I I believe they are as well. I don't think they have a chance to win out, but we've seen crazier. Canon Stogner: Yeah, no, they're dead. all right. Last game of the weekend, probably the best game of the weekend. I enjoyed watching it. Dante Moore, Jaden Mayava, biggest quarterback matchup maybe of the season. game started out hot. And then Dante Moore slides late, gets his head taken off, you know, goes into whatever episode that's called. Where, you know, your arms come up and all the all that. knocked out from the game, stretchered off, carted off, you know, emotional scene. And the worst look of the whole night, probably the whole weekend, was USC's defender celebrating. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And to his defense, I feel like, you know, I'm a bad guy. Bad guy's defending a lot of bad guys today. Andrew Wright: Yeah you are yeah you are. Canon Stogner: but to his Defense, I don't think he necessarily knew that he had knocked him out at the beginning. Because he hits him and then he immediately starts getting pushed. And you know, he's like by the time that he like could get a visual of Dante Moore laying down, all the trainers were around him. So I don't think Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: he necessarily saw that he was like knocked out and what happened. But When you get to the sideline and you're still celebrating, and it's obviously a very emotional scene at this point, you're still celebrating, that's when you lose what's going on. and then Lincoln Riley, he gets ejected from the game. Lincoln Riley doesn't remove him from the games, like tell him to go off the sideline, so then things get worse for USC and their picture. but at the end of the day They still had a lot of football to play and I thought it was a very good game. I even said, like, when Dante Moore got hurt, I was like, well, Oregon's got the best backup quarterback in football. So that's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: a good team for that to happen to. You obviously don't want to see that happen, but I'm saying quarterback wise, depth wise. And Dylan Raella came in and looked incredible. He looked like a guy who has been trying to learn and watch being a backup because, you know, he got thrown into the fire immediately as a freshman at Nebraska. And he really came in, he led the offense, led him to a win. was really he was more mature and, you know, just making the right plays and making good throws. And he had a tough job, you know. A lot of those guys were probably very tore up about the whole thing and disturbed about the scene. And he had a tough job because he had to get those guys back fired up and, you know, take control of the offense. And he did just that. The game was a lot closer than the score. Final score ended up being about fourteen points, forty one twenty seven. But US or Oregon did score late. However, I think the main story of this game is Lincoln Riley loses another big game, Andrew. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's that's definitely kind of the big takeaway from that. He loses another top twenty-five game. I think that puts him at five and fifteen in his USC tenure now against top twenty-five teams. So like it's just the writing's kind of on the wall, which is so crazy to say for a four and one team. But kind of coming in, everybody was like, This is the game for Lincoln Riley. Like, he has to win this game at home. And then when the starting quarterback for the opposing team gets knocked out, you're like, All right, well, if they can't win at home. in year five against a team that now does not have their starting quarterback, then what game can they win? What game can they get up for? And then they lose. Like I said, Dylan Rayola absolutely shredded them. Which I think some people forget he tore his ACL last year. He his season ended early last year. So he could have had very well had some rust trying to come back from an ACL back in a really, really big game, like big environment. And that did not seem to face him in the slightest. He looked really, really good. So yeah, just coming out, Lincoln Rally, I I just don't know where they go from here. if like I said, if he can't win that one, what can he win? They have right now three more games against ranked opponents, and that doesn't include a Washington team that was ranked to start the season, a good Wisconsin team looks like, and a Penn State team that was just a top thirteen team in the country last week. So their schedule is brutal the rest of the season. And I just don't see them winning very many games. And if they don't, that's we've probably we probably saw the beginning of the end for Lincoln Riley. Last night at USC. Canon Stogner: I told my dad and brother watching the game. I said that's that's what I want South Kroan to go get. I I truly I truly do. I think I think he'd be a I think he'd be a great fit there. Cause he's still Andrew Wright: You if they hired that Kindle Browles would leave? Canon Stogner: I don't I ain't worried about Kind of Brawl's. Andrew Wright: Me me either, but I was just curious. I was just I was just curious. Canon Stogner: I ain't worried about I ain't worried about Kendall Brothers. Andrew Wright: He lo Ken Orioles lost me last night, by the way. I'm out. I'm out. Canon Stogner: Yeah, I mean, I'd I'd be more worried about trying to keep Clayton White. It doesn't matter if Kenobraz is there, like L Lincoln Riley calls the offense, so what's it matter? Andrew Wright: That's why that's what I was asking. Like those are two play call centric coaches, so Canon Stogner: Yeah, but I think I d I just think with him being young, South Carolina needs that. Obviously the old coaching hasn't worked recently. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: South Carolina needs that young coach, but still has something to do with like the team. Like you gotta be able to oversee the whole production of the team, but also know what you're talking about on your side of the ball that you favor. And Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I just think, you know, you're moving across the country, you're That could be the only thing that I'd be hesitant about is recruiting. Cause he's not really recruiting anybody from this side of the country just because he's Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: all the way over there. So that's that'd be the most interesting part. But you know, we could talk about this another day, but if they were to do that, I think Lincoln Rowley would ask for a lot of NIO money. Andrew Wright: yeah, definitely. Canon Stogner: So it'd be up to South Carolina to bring that to him. So Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: all right, let's review the rankings real quick. Mississippi State moves up to 16. Texas stays at number one, Georgia stays at number two. Ohio State moves up to number five from number seven. Florida moves up to number eight. Thirteen spots they jumped. crazy. Ole Miss moved down nine to nine. Iowa moved up to fourteen. Oregon up to fifteen. USC, they move back to 18. Oklahoma State is officially ranked for the first time this year. They are number 19, which is pretty crazy after going winless Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: last year. But I was all over that one. Boise State moves into 22. UCLA, all over them as well, moves Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: into number 23. And then Kentucky into number 24. Missouri caps it off at number 25. So loaded SEC. rankings all over Oklahoma State. Andrew was all over Florida. I was all over UCLA. Pretty cool. All right. Go ahead. Andrew Wright: Yeah, the just the bottom of those rankings are fun to look at, man. Oklahoma State, Boise, UCLA, Kentucky. I'm not sure those four teams have ever all been ranked at the same time. I also think it's I Canon Stogner: Yeah, I mean Andrew Wright: also think it's crazy. Missouri just somehow finds a way to always just stay in there right there at the bottom. There's a rank rank win for Florida next week, Canon Stogner: Yeah, yeah. anyway. Andrew Wright: probably. That's all that's always funny to see them kind of stick in there. So yeah. Just just very fun to look Canon Stogner: It wasn't worth the comment. Andrew Wright: at the bottom of those rankings with those four just kind of weird teams down there that are all ranked at the same time. Canon Stogner: Yeah, all right. We finished reviewing the games. Can you give us a review of what we did with our spread picks? I know you said it was a bad week. Andrew Wright: yeah, not a great week for us. I think collectively as a group. I did not finish tying it but let's see. Collectively as a group, we went one, two, three, four. We went seven and eight as a group this week. you and Will were both at two and three. And I was at three and two. So yeah, very, very poor week for us. So well, we'll definitely have to bounce back from that. points wise, I got I guess since we're I got five points, had two favorites, cover and win. Then I had App State to cover. They did cover and just didn't win. Will had Oklahoma State at plus one and a half and Nebraska. So he went with four points there. And then you had UCLA and Mississippi State that both covered and won. Canon Stogner: I was all over UCLA. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they're Maryland is pitiful. So bad. And it could and Canon Stogner: They're so bad. Andrew Wright: it couldn't happen to a nicer coach. Canon Stogner: Yep. Alright. We're on to Kentucky. That wraps up the rest of this episode. I'll be back Thursday. I will be back. And I'm bringing the energy. Probably gonna know a little something more about Dylan Stewart Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: on by Thursday's episode. so gonna be an interesting one. But we'll see you guys on Thursday.
