- 0:00Speaker 1: You know, I have a Halloween list. I have several
- 0:04Speaker 1: Halloween lists.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Well, tis the season. But, yeah, I've got Halloween candy,
- 0:13Speaker 1: Halloween costumes. But this list is really interesting. It's the
- 0:17Speaker 1: ten biggest Halloween movie flops.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm down for that. It's Radio From Hell with another list.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Because people love a good list.
- 0:30Speaker 3: X96.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think this list was put together from the people
- 0:34Speaker 1: at Screen Rant. Now, this does not mean they're bad
- 0:39Speaker 1: movies necessarily. No. It just means they didn't perform well
- 0:42Speaker 1: at the box office. So let's start with number 10.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Halloween 3, Season of the Witch.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Notoriously.
- 0:51Speaker 3: But that was a bad movie.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Wasn't it? I didn't see it, but I heard it's just.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I remember being upset that Michael had nothing to do
- 0:59Speaker 3: with him.
- 1:01Speaker 4: There are people who like this movie. It's a small,
- 1:04Speaker 4: dedicated fan base.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And a lot of it was filmed here in Salt Lake.
- 1:07Speaker 1: There's that big mansion on the corner of 3rd and,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I think, Q Street. So, yeah, Halloween 3 season of
- 1:17Speaker 1: The Witch. Didn't do well. Halloween 5, The Revenge of
- 1:21Speaker 1: Michael Myers is number 9.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I have no memory of that one.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I don't either. It is, let's see. It says Michael
- 1:29Speaker 1: survives recent attempts to kill him, allowing him to continue
- 1:31Speaker 1: his hunt for his niece, Jamie Lloyd. Jamie senses his
- 1:35Speaker 1: return via an inexplicable telepathic connection, setting her up to
- 1:39Speaker 1: prepare for another showdown. That's Halloween 5. Let's see. It
- 1:45Speaker 1: was written by John Carpenter. It should be good. Number eight,
- 1:50Speaker 1: Jennifer's Body.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Oh, I thought that did well.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It found an audience after it was in theaters.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Did people not quite get what it was?
- 1:59Speaker 2: They didn't quite get it, and they're making a sequel.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 3: That was Megan Fox, right?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And, yeah, so often, Gina, you'll see with the rest
- 2:09Speaker 1: of these movies, they did become popular, but they didn't
- 2:13Speaker 1: do well.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Make money initially.
- 2:14Speaker 1: They didn't do well. Number seven, Practical Magic. Hmm. It's
- 2:20Speaker 1: still beloved, yeah. Katie loves that one, isn't it?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, Katie and I, we never went to see, I know,
- 2:28Speaker 3: I don't think it's in theaters anymore.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Practical Magic.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And they made a sequel.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, number six, this is a movie that I
- 2:36Speaker 1: thought was pretty good. It was directed by Stan Winston,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and it's Pumpkinhead. And I remember this being really quite
- 2:44Speaker 1: well done.
- 2:46Speaker 2: It did fail at the box office.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yes, it did.
- 2:48Speaker 3: It did.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Find an audience later.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Oh, here's World War Box Office, four million, estimated three million. Well, anyway,
- 2:57Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. Oh, Ma'am Bialik is in it, so
- 3:01Speaker 1: maybe it wasn't that good. Number five, a really good movie.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It's very difficult to find. It was the first, I
- 3:09Speaker 1: think the first film ever directed by Catherine Bigelow. It's
- 3:13Speaker 1: called Near Dark.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Oh, is it hard to find?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you can pay for it, but it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: not certainly available.
- 3:23Speaker 3: It's from 1987.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It's not available streaming for free anywhere. I looked once
- 3:28Speaker 1: because I haven't seen it for years. It stars Adrian
- 3:31Speaker 1: Pasdar and Lance Henriksen, and it is really, really good.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Oh, you can rent or buy it through the Apple
- 3:39Speaker 3: TV store.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So maybe I'll rent it sometime and watch it. It's
- 3:43Speaker 1: only a couple of bucks probably. Number six, The Thing
- 3:48Speaker 1: from 2011. Now, a lot of people don't remember this movie,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and I know a lot of people don't like it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I don't remember it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I liked it. It's a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982
- 4:01Speaker 1: horror film. A group of researchers in Antarctica discover an
- 4:05Speaker 1: alien buried in the ice, bringing it back to their
- 4:07Speaker 1: site to study it. The creature breaks free, starts killing
- 4:10Speaker 1: the team members one by one, and then it goes missing.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It goes back into the ice.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And then that's when.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And that's with John Carpenter.
- 4:17Speaker 2: That's when the Kurt Russell one starts.
- 4:19Speaker 1: This one has Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, and I
- 4:25Speaker 1: thought it was pretty good. I liked it. And then,
- 4:28Speaker 1: let's see, number three, I Still Know What You Did
- 4:32Speaker 1: Last Summer.
- 4:33Speaker 3: That didn't do well.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Oh.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I Still Know What You Did.
- 4:36Speaker 3: That's the second one.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, the second one did not do as well.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze, so forth. Number two, The
- 4:44Speaker 1: Crow flopped.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a flop.
- 4:48Speaker 1: No, I've seen.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But they made, like, four more movies and a TV series.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah. I've seen The Crow, or most of it. I
- 4:56Speaker 1: didn't really care for it. My kids really like it.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Well, he died during the filming of it, so it probably.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they had to shoot around him.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it probably would have been better if they'd had
- 5:08Speaker 3: him available for the whole thing.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Apparently, Near Dark is on YouTube for free.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Oh, really? Yeah, so you can watch it at your
- 5:14Speaker 1: desk today. Oh, you know what? This is cut off,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the number one.
- 5:20Speaker 3: No, they probably want you to buy something to get
- 5:22Speaker 3: the number one.
- 5:23Speaker 1: The number one position on the... Let me see if
- 5:26Speaker 1: I can go to their website real quick here and see.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Let me do that. No, I can't. I can't find it.
- 5:32Speaker 1: What is the website? It's Screen Rant. Oh, here we go.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm getting it.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 5:39Speaker 1: It's number one. Oh, no, that's, okay. Let me go. Oh, sorry. Sorry, five.
- 5:47Speaker 3: The tension is killing me.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I have to scroll through all of these damn things.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The number one movie that underperformed.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Halloween movie that underperformed.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Fear.com, it's called.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I don't even remember that.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Fear.com. It's not that old. No, it's... 10 years? Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 1: it's from... 2002. That's over 20 years old.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Oh, 20 years, yeah. I remember it being... I want
- 6:14Speaker 2: to say it's Sundance or Slamdance.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think it was.
- 6:19Speaker 3: The plot follows an NYPD detective and a health researcher
- 6:23Speaker 3: investigating bizarre deaths where victims die 48 hours after visiting
- 6:27Speaker 3: a torture website.
- 6:30Speaker 1: It says it's a graphic, violent project that didn't justify
- 6:35Speaker 1: its grotesque imagery with strong messages of a compelling script.
- 6:39Speaker 3: It has an infamous F CinemaScore rating. Universally panned by critics,
- 6:44Speaker 3: it holds only a 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. People
- 6:48Speaker 3: hated this movie.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah. It didn't even make back half of its budget.
- 6:52Speaker 1: One of the worst received horror movies of all time,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it says.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Fear.com. All right. There you go.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Now, the original Texas Chainsaw.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 7:05Speaker 2: It did not do well at the box office.
- 7:07Speaker 3: But it must have made tons of money since then. Oh, yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But it has, yeah. But then there's, you know, did
- 7:13Speaker 2: it make money?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Because there's so many disputes as to who owns it.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Because the financing was weird.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Who's Leatherface that we interviewed? What's his name?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Gunnar Hansen.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Gunnar Hansen, yeah, we interviewed him.
- 7:28Speaker 4: He had no thoughts of getting into acting at all.
- 7:32Speaker 4: He was going to go into advertising or something like that.
- 7:35Speaker 4: But his size is huge. They apparently had someone else
- 7:40Speaker 4: cast his leather face, and this person quit. And Toby
- 7:45Speaker 4: Hooper or somebody remembers seeing Gunner at a coffee shop
- 7:48Speaker 4: in town.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 7:49Speaker 2: And going, oh, that guy was giant. I'm going to
- 7:51Speaker 2: go down to that coffee shop and wait for him.
- 7:53Speaker 3: It was like a Lana Turner thing.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It was. He was wearing a really fetching sweater.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I remember we had him in studio over in Trolley,
- 8:06Speaker 3: and I remember we were in the marquee studio, the
- 8:08Speaker 3: big glass one there, and I remember he walked in,
- 8:11Speaker 3: and just he's in normal clothes. He's not dressed up
- 8:13Speaker 3: like Leatherface, but scary because he was just so imposing.
- 8:19Speaker 1: There must be some pictures of us with him somewhere.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I have an autograph of him as Leatherface where he says,
- 8:27Speaker 4: I have a face for radio, Gunnar Hansen.
- 8:30Speaker 1: You know, the thing that I've always said about Texas
- 8:34Speaker 1: Chainsaw Massacre, it's not as graphic as you think it is.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You imagine a lot of it.
- 8:40Speaker 2: You imagine a lot. But at the same time, apparently
- 8:43Speaker 2: the house, the set, most of the bones were real.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And the dead animals were real?
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I don't like that.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Here's the thing about Gunnar Hansen's performance. I think he
- 9:00Speaker 1: strikes a great deal of fear, of course, with his chainsaw.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But there's a moment where he's holding it up in
- 9:07Speaker 1: the air and going, and he's just pitiful. It's like
- 9:10Speaker 1: he's just... You feel bad for him? Kind of. Well,
- 9:14Speaker 1: there's a lot of.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Unspoken commentary about class in it, you know, where these
- 9:23Speaker 4: poor people, the job that they had is gone and
- 9:27Speaker 4: this is all they have now.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It's as timely as today's headlines.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Basically, yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Gunnar Hansen died in 2015 of pancreatic cancer. Oh, okay.
- 9:40Speaker 4: We hope you enjoyed another list with Radio From Hell
- 9:44Speaker 4: on X96.
- 9:46Speaker 3: We kind of farted around about that.
- 9:48Speaker 2: A little bit. Didn't we?
- 9:49Speaker 3: A little bit.
