- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Special episode of the Almost Famous Podcast. Today we have
- 0:09Speaker 2: Susie Evans here. Susie Evans has been a part of
- 0:11Speaker 2: the Almost Famous family in multiple ways, not only as
- 0:14Speaker 2: a guest but also as a host of a spin
- 0:17Speaker 2: off show that we did. And now Susan is coming
- 0:20Speaker 2: on because she's up to new, incredible cool things. Welcome
- 0:25Speaker 2: to the podcast, Susie.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Thank you, glad to be here. Feels good to be back.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You know, we've gotten to know you over the years
- 0:32Speaker 2: for your your sense of humor, your ability to I'm
- 0:38Speaker 2: not gonna say I don't know if I like it
- 0:39Speaker 2: when people say not take yourself too serious, because I
- 0:42Speaker 2: think you probably should take yourself reasonably seriously. But you
- 0:46Speaker 2: can make fun of yourself in a way that I
- 0:49Speaker 2: think is relatable and engaging with the audience. So my
- 0:52Speaker 2: first question for you is where does that come from?
- 0:55Speaker 2: How do you do that? Is that just you or
- 0:57Speaker 2: have you kind of built that skill set?
- 1:00Speaker 3: It's probably a coping mechanism. By being completely honest, I
- 1:04Speaker 3: think growing up I had an older brother and I
- 1:08Speaker 3: would say everyone in my family is like somewhat funny,
- 1:13Speaker 3: like we as a family laugh a lot, and yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 3: I just think we are very I don't know if
- 1:21Speaker 3: the were to be unserious, because my mom was very
- 1:24Speaker 3: big on instill in like character trades, Like she always
- 1:27Speaker 3: talked about like treating people well, treating people how you
- 1:30Speaker 3: want to be treated, being kind, like those were really
- 1:32Speaker 3: important values in our family. But we also just were
- 1:35Speaker 3: a really fun family, I guess you'd say. And then
- 1:39Speaker 3: I also think, looking back, like even in the past year,
- 1:44Speaker 3: I've just been doing a lot of like soul searching
- 1:47Speaker 3: and like looking into myself and like my past, my
- 1:50Speaker 3: childhood and stuff like that. And I think I've realized
- 1:53Speaker 3: that like a big part of my sense of humor
- 1:56Speaker 3: and wanting to like lean into being like kind of
- 2:00Speaker 3: silly and poking fun at myself at times is probably
- 2:02Speaker 3: like genuinely a cobD mechanism of like, oh, like how
- 2:06Speaker 3: do I deal with my pain points in life? And
- 2:08Speaker 3: it's like, oh, I like make fun of it or
- 2:10Speaker 3: I laugh through it, And yeah, I guess that's probably
- 2:14Speaker 3: where it stemmed from. But then I've realized it's like,
- 2:16Speaker 3: you know, it could be a little unhealthy times, but
- 2:19Speaker 3: for the most part, like It's actually helped me cope
- 2:21Speaker 3: in a lot of ways.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm curious because, like, who were you in high school?
- 2:28Speaker 2: I mean, you're obviously a very beautiful person. You've got
- 2:31Speaker 2: a big personality, you can make people laugh, you can
- 2:34Speaker 2: laugh at yourself. As you said, you have been able
- 2:37Speaker 2: to cope. Like who was Susie, you know, ten fifteen
- 2:41Speaker 2: years ago.
- 2:42Speaker 3: That's a good question. I would say in high school,
- 2:46Speaker 3: I was like the poster child for like being in
- 2:51Speaker 3: every possible extracurricular activity. Like if there was a sport,
- 2:56Speaker 3: I was going to try out for it, even if
- 2:58Speaker 3: I hadn't tried it before. And if there was a
- 3:01Speaker 3: new club, I was like, I'll join that sounds so fun.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, new friends perfect. Like I was always
- 3:06Speaker 3: just like dabbling in lots of things and like just
- 3:11Speaker 3: kept just my So I would say my social life
- 3:14Speaker 3: was like pretty poppin' in the sense that I was
- 3:17Speaker 3: like not the most academic student. I was really creative.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I was like every extracurricular I could take. It was
- 3:22Speaker 3: like theater, voice, chorus, jazz choir. Like I filled up
- 3:28Speaker 3: all my extracurriculars with like musical stuff Like that was
- 3:30Speaker 3: just very much my vibe. So a lot of my
- 3:32Speaker 3: friends were like banned chorus theater kids. But then another
- 3:36Speaker 3: group of my friends were like student athletes, and most
- 3:42Speaker 3: of my friends were really academic, and I was like
- 3:44Speaker 3: the non academic friend that was friends with the academic students.
- 3:48Speaker 3: If that makes sense. Yeah, And so I would I
- 3:51Speaker 3: think that I at the time, even then, Like my
- 3:54Speaker 3: mom again, I just I think she's the most wonderful person,
- 3:56Speaker 3: but she really stressed like being a kind person. So
- 3:59Speaker 3: I I just really valued like being kind to people.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And I never I don't think I ever really aligned
- 4:06Speaker 3: myself with like mean people or like even kind of
- 4:11Speaker 3: I would say, I think all my friends are really
- 4:12Speaker 3: cool and they're cool people, but I wouldn't say that
- 4:15Speaker 3: we were like the cool kids out like partying, I
- 4:18Speaker 3: guess you'd say. And I was definitely shy when it
- 4:23Speaker 3: came to boys, if I'm being honest. Like I didn't
- 4:26Speaker 3: have a boyfriend until college. I didn't have my first
- 4:28Speaker 3: kiss until college. Like I was so nervous about Like
- 4:32Speaker 3: I was cool to be friends with guys, but when
- 4:34Speaker 3: it came to dating, I was like so shy, Like
- 4:37Speaker 3: I couldn't be I couldn't do it.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Now you're living in Los Angeles still, right, How has
- 4:43Speaker 2: that been then as you've transitioned from reality television to
- 4:49Speaker 2: you know, a new life making friends, being shyer? You know,
- 4:55Speaker 2: when are you still shy with boys? I mean you
- 4:57Speaker 2: went on national television kiss some people.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say I'm actually not I wouldn't say
- 5:04Speaker 3: I'm like actually shy. I'm really confident to like go
- 5:08Speaker 3: up to somebody. But I think I would go up
- 5:09Speaker 3: to somebody under the assumption like this is going to
- 5:11Speaker 3: be my friend, and not the assumption of like, oh
- 5:13Speaker 3: I'm gonna hit on somebody. So I'm a friendly person
- 5:18Speaker 3: to everyone. But it's definitely been interesting. And I will say, like,
- 5:24Speaker 3: I don't know how I got so lucky in LA.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I haven't dated, Like I haven't been out dating, and
- 5:30Speaker 3: I know everyone talks about like how dating is so crazy,
- 5:33Speaker 3: Like it went in a few dates before Justin and
- 5:35Speaker 3: I started dating. But then like as far as friendships go,
- 5:39Speaker 3: like I again, people always say LA is so hard
- 5:42Speaker 3: for friendships, and it is, genuinely it is. But I
- 5:46Speaker 3: got so freaking lucky, Like I got hired to do
- 5:49Speaker 3: an event probably in the first two months of living here,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and it was like a young entrepreneurs group and there
- 5:55Speaker 3: were girls that were like at the head of it.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I met them. I was literally photographing their event as
- 6:01Speaker 3: like a worker, and one of the girls was like
- 6:05Speaker 3: doing interested in doing pilates and cycling classes, and we
- 6:09Speaker 3: just started talking about it. She started asking me to
- 6:11Speaker 3: go with her, and then two of the girls from
- 6:13Speaker 3: that group have become like two of my best friends
- 6:15Speaker 3: out here. They're just like, they don't do social media.
- 6:17Speaker 3: They're just girls that have businesses. They are nice people,
- 6:22Speaker 3: like genuinely kind people. And I've just like slowly collected
- 6:26Speaker 3: the nicest people. And I swear I'm like, how do
- 6:28Speaker 3: I have the nicest people in LA? Somehow I got lucky,
- 6:32Speaker 3: And so I've actually had a really good time, Like
- 6:35Speaker 3: I guess I've been able to collect good people around me.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But I mean as far as like dating and being
- 6:40Speaker 3: shy on that sense, like I haven't really dabbled, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I haven't had the opportunity really to even like do that,
- 6:46Speaker 3: but I don't know, like dreading the thought of it,
- 6:50Speaker 3: to be honest.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well there's you know, I've obviously been married
- 6:55Speaker 2: for a few years. Many benefits to being married don't
- 6:58Speaker 2: this come off wrong. One of the best. You never
- 7:00Speaker 2: have to date again unless you're dating your partner, which
- 7:03Speaker 2: is very nice and you know you're very comfortable with
- 7:06Speaker 2: Now we've all seen the headline, Susie, and I would
- 7:08Speaker 2: be miss not to ask, are you ready to talk
- 7:11Speaker 2: about it? What is your status? What are you willing
- 7:13Speaker 2: able and feeling comfortable about sharing? You did mention Justin's
- 7:17Speaker 2: name that you had gone through some of few dates
- 7:19Speaker 2: before him, but we don't really know where you're at now.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I know you guys talked with Justin
- 7:26Speaker 3: as well recently, and I know it's been so weird
- 7:32Speaker 3: because like we haven't really addressed it, but yeah, we
- 7:37Speaker 3: aren't together, but we love each other so freaking much,
- 7:41Speaker 3: like the point where it's just painful for both of us.
- 7:44Speaker 3: So that's been tough to navigate. And I think, obviously,
- 7:48Speaker 3: I know you've gone through a public breakup. I've gone
- 7:50Speaker 3: through one before as well, and it is just so painful,
- 7:54Speaker 3: and I have regrets from how the last one went
- 7:57Speaker 3: to be honest, even though like I feel like I
- 7:59Speaker 3: was most private about that too, But even the little
- 8:03Speaker 3: bit that you give to people, like the way people
- 8:06Speaker 3: recap it or put their own twists on it, or
- 8:08Speaker 3: make assumptions. It can just be so it can just
- 8:12Speaker 3: be perceived so well or perceived just in a way
- 8:14Speaker 3: that you don't want it to be. So I think
- 8:16Speaker 3: Justin and I both have like kind of been trying
- 8:19Speaker 3: to protect each other. And I think we've both been
- 8:21Speaker 3: caught off guard by people like physically in person where
- 8:25Speaker 3: we didn't really know that we were going to have
- 8:26Speaker 3: to address it, and at the time, we weren't really
- 8:29Speaker 3: talking about it. So we've both just been like dodging
- 8:31Speaker 3: questions as far as like we don't want to say
- 8:33Speaker 3: too much because we don't want it to be misinterpreted.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But even that can be misinterpreted. So yeah, it's just
- 8:40Speaker 3: it's been sad. But I think we're both just trying
- 8:44Speaker 3: to navigate it and like love each other through it,
- 8:46Speaker 3: like not gonna let he came over and hung that
- 8:48Speaker 3: shelf on my in my apartment not too long ago,
- 8:51Speaker 3: so like we're on great terms, Like everything is well.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I say, everything's positive, but you know, there's so much
- 8:58Speaker 3: love and there's no animal.
- 9:00Speaker 2: For sure, you know what. I laughed there for a
- 9:13Speaker 2: second because what you're saying, I can remember looking back
- 9:16Speaker 2: and relate with so well. In fact, I tell people, now,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you know, a breakup, I don't know if there's like
- 9:23Speaker 2: a like a breakup's a breakup. There's good and bad
- 9:26Speaker 2: to it every time, but like for the most part,
- 9:29Speaker 2: like it's it's just hard saying goodbye to somebody, especially
- 9:32Speaker 2: when it's public. I really don't know if there's much
- 9:34Speaker 2: good that comes out of a breakup outside of maybe
- 9:36Speaker 2: trying to keep that like friendship alive behind the scenes,
- 9:40Speaker 2: or keep some like sense of respect and care and
- 9:43Speaker 2: love for the other person. Because the people have just
- 9:46Speaker 2: a thousand different opinions. It's hard. I think the question
- 9:50Speaker 2: before we get into what's this next chapter for you?
- 9:52Speaker 2: And I don't want to drill down and drill into
- 9:54Speaker 2: you know you and Justin what happened. That's not my
- 9:57Speaker 2: business and nobody's really But I the question that I
- 10:00Speaker 2: asked Justin that really got him. And it got him
- 10:04Speaker 2: because he I could tell when we had this interview
- 10:06Speaker 2: together and people can listen to it, it's going to
- 10:09Speaker 2: come out. You know. He was dancing around a lot,
- 10:12Speaker 2: trying to do this respectfully without saying too much or
- 10:14Speaker 2: too little the same stuff you're saying like it's impossible. Yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 2: but finally, what I the question that I wanted to
- 10:20Speaker 2: know and I wanted from him and I want to
- 10:21Speaker 2: know from you too, is so, but how are you doing?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Was what I asked him, And I want to know.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And I think a lot of people are just curious
- 10:28Speaker 2: how are you doing right now in this season of
- 10:30Speaker 2: life that is changing? And we will get into also
- 10:34Speaker 2: the professional changes that you're making and starting up.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I think I'm doing okay, Like I think I'm good
- 10:43Speaker 3: for the most part. I think it's just like hard,
- 10:45Speaker 3: to be honest, Like, I think it's just it's just hard.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Like I think Justin and I both moved to la
- 10:52Speaker 3: like not knowing many people and like leaning on each
- 10:57Speaker 3: other a lot as friends, and like, yeah, it's just hard.
- 11:03Speaker 3: And I think we both just feel like it's hard.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Like we both basically came to a new city, didn't
- 11:11Speaker 3: have family, didn't really have like strong friendships, but we
- 11:16Speaker 3: had each other and then we like developed a friend,
- 11:18Speaker 3: like a really good friendship. So I think even beyond
- 11:22Speaker 3: the relationship, like just not having your best friend has
- 11:28Speaker 3: been really hard because like we knew when we cross
- 11:30Speaker 3: actually when we talked with you guys. Last time, when
- 11:32Speaker 3: we crossed that boundary of like friendship to more than friendship,
- 11:37Speaker 3: we did keep it private for so long because we
- 11:39Speaker 3: were like, what if this doesn't work out? Like what
- 11:42Speaker 3: if we what if we aren't compatible? And now we
- 11:46Speaker 3: tell everyone that we're dating, and then we have to
- 11:48Speaker 3: go back on it, and it's like, one, we know
- 11:51Speaker 3: that our really even if this happened early on, like
- 11:56Speaker 3: our friendship would be different because you know, no guy
- 11:59Speaker 3: I'm gonna is ever going to really be cool with
- 12:01Speaker 3: me having a friend it's close, especially one that I've kissed,
- 12:05Speaker 3: Like that's just not going to be acceptable. And so
- 12:10Speaker 3: we knew that risk when we started dating, but then
- 12:13Speaker 3: when we went public, it was like, Okay, now it's
- 12:15Speaker 3: like we're inviting people into this, and so knowing that
- 12:23Speaker 3: I'm we've kind of like lost just even like our
- 12:26Speaker 3: best friend in LA and really one of my best
- 12:29Speaker 3: friends in life, and knowing that I can't get that back, like,
- 12:34Speaker 3: oh sorry, it's so emotional, you Like that is what
- 12:39Speaker 3: sucks so bad. I think for both of us that
- 12:41Speaker 3: we just like had we genuinely had a real friendship before.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I hate them crying.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I cried all morning we just trust me. This was
- 12:51Speaker 2: like a crying day. I woke up at eight am
- 12:53Speaker 2: and cried over on this show. So it was just great,
- 12:56Speaker 2: We're just gonna cry through the day. It's fine, Okay.
- 12:57Speaker 3: So it's like a really emotional day all around.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Someltan's happening great.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's it's just like such a loss
- 13:05Speaker 3: for both of us. Yeah, I don't know. I think
- 13:09Speaker 3: it's just it's just like tough and I feel like,
- 13:12Speaker 3: I mean, I don't even know how to like word
- 13:13Speaker 3: at all, because it's it's just like genuinely so sad
- 13:18Speaker 3: beyond the you know, losing out on a boyfriend, it's
- 13:20Speaker 3: like losing out on a friend and like a huge
- 13:23Speaker 3: I don't want to say crutch in a bad way,
- 13:24Speaker 3: but like moving to LA and really leaning on each
- 13:29Speaker 3: other and like just that that's like been We've been
- 13:33Speaker 3: each other's person out here, so like really renavigating like
- 13:39Speaker 3: our life out here, and like thankfully we both have
- 13:43Speaker 3: really great friendships like we and we both have great
- 13:45Speaker 3: families like we have. We both have amazing parents, amazing siblings,
- 13:50Speaker 3: great friendships in LA and back home, and so we've
- 13:53Speaker 3: both been really lucky and we both like loved each
- 13:55Speaker 3: other through this, Like we've had to take bouts of
- 13:58Speaker 3: like not talking to each other because we it's so
- 14:03Speaker 3: easy to go back to how things were, and so
- 14:06Speaker 3: it's just been like, Okay, we really have to like
- 14:10Speaker 3: differentiate like how our lives are going to look different.
- 14:12Speaker 3: We've had to set boundaries. So it's just really hard,
- 14:15Speaker 3: and I think it's hard for both of us.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Okay, I do have two more questions, and they're not
- 14:21Speaker 2: hopefully going to feel like I'm drilling in, but I'm
- 14:24Speaker 2: curious about two things. One is you know you a
- 14:29Speaker 2: year ago, it felt like on social media at least
- 14:34Speaker 2: you can tell me if I'm wrong. A lot of
- 14:35Speaker 2: these people from the show you were close friends with,
- 14:37Speaker 2: like the Andrew Spencer's and Justin's and that like friend
- 14:40Speaker 2: group was really tight, right, people have now moved away.
- 14:43Speaker 2: We were just with them in Napa. They've all kind
- 14:45Speaker 2: of moved out to their own separate places. Some of
- 14:47Speaker 2: them still visit LA, but it's not the same. Has
- 14:50Speaker 2: that added a different level too? Because you and Justin
- 14:53Speaker 2: kind of started dating, Yeah, at people were still there,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and then it seems like those people have moved away
- 14:59Speaker 2: while you were dating and now you know, you and
- 15:01Speaker 2: Justin aren't together and those people aren't there. Has that
- 15:04Speaker 2: added a different, like a harder element to it, I
- 15:07Speaker 2: don't think for me.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I think so my friendship with Justin and Andrew really
- 15:12Speaker 3: blossomed when we all came out to LA. We lived
- 15:16Speaker 3: like ten minutes from each other, and it was like
- 15:21Speaker 3: like heading into summer. It was just like we had
- 15:24Speaker 3: Brat summer before Brat Summer was a thing.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:26Speaker 3: We were just like out there living and it was
- 15:29Speaker 3: so fun and it really was awesome, but it and
- 15:35Speaker 3: it was so good for me. Like looking back on
- 15:37Speaker 3: that time, like I have such amazing memories from like
- 15:42Speaker 3: all coming to La, all being new here and just
- 15:46Speaker 3: feeling like the world was our oyster and we were like,
- 15:48Speaker 3: oh my god, like there's so many cool things to
- 15:50Speaker 3: experience here. It was so unique for all of us.
- 15:53Speaker 3: And so they obviously had a tight knit friendship and
- 15:58Speaker 3: those guys along with like Rodney and Nate, like they
- 16:02Speaker 3: just really welcomed me in. Like I remember Rodney invited
- 16:05Speaker 3: me to Easter at his mom's house and just like
- 16:08Speaker 3: knowing I didn't have family out here and stuff like that,
- 16:10Speaker 3: and it was just really sweet, and I felt like
- 16:15Speaker 3: I felt like a little sister vibe because none of
- 16:18Speaker 3: us were dating, and I was even dating other people
- 16:21Speaker 3: like at the time, and I just didn't really know
- 16:24Speaker 3: that many people. And so I don't think it's changed
- 16:27Speaker 3: much for me other than like, yeah, like that part
- 16:29Speaker 3: of my life is over. But they weren't friendships that
- 16:31Speaker 3: were like years deep. Were For Justin, I think it
- 16:34Speaker 3: probably is harder, like he had deeper relationships with those
- 16:39Speaker 3: people and his life. Everyone's life has kind of changed,
- 16:43Speaker 3: and so I feel like when I got here, like
- 16:45Speaker 3: my girlfriends are separate from what everyone saw online on
- 16:47Speaker 3: social media, Like, sure you'll see my girlfriends, but they're
- 16:50Speaker 3: not people that do content, so it's not like that
- 16:52Speaker 3: wasn't publicized. So fortunately I do have a strong support
- 16:55Speaker 3: system out here of girls and back home obviously, but
- 17:00Speaker 3: that friend group dynamic. I think it's probably harder for
- 17:04Speaker 3: Justin that it's not the same as it used to be.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Final question about this, I promise, and this one is
- 17:09Speaker 2: one I'm not that I hope is beneficial to the listener.
- 17:15Speaker 2: We have this segment on Almost Famous called almost Good Advice,
- 17:19Speaker 2: where people write in kind of their life advice or
- 17:21Speaker 2: their issues going on in the world, and we try
- 17:24Speaker 2: to answer them and the best we can, usually falling short.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And then in my own life, I have friends who
- 17:32Speaker 2: have sat in a similar position to you. So the
- 17:34Speaker 2: situation is this, and you've been through it. You have
- 17:39Speaker 2: a best friend, somebody you're a best friend with, like
- 17:42Speaker 2: you love them and your best friend and then, like you,
- 17:46Speaker 2: you start dating them. That's not an uncommon story, right,
- 17:49Speaker 2: or at least you're thinking about it in your head.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Some would write it and say, hey, I have a
- 17:52Speaker 2: best friend I'm starting to feel have feelings for, but
- 17:55Speaker 2: I don't want to lose the friendship. So if you're
- 17:58Speaker 2: giving advice to those types of people, My question I
- 18:01Speaker 2: guess to run off of is was it worth it?
- 18:04Speaker 2: Would you advise it? Or would you have rather gone
- 18:07Speaker 2: a different direction with it?
- 18:08Speaker 3: You made me cry again.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I'm not meaning to, I know, but like.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I no, no, no, no, it's I'm joking. It's a
- 18:15Speaker 3: good question.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a common situation, and I don't know
- 18:18Speaker 2: how to answer that because there is a lot of
- 18:20Speaker 2: elements to it.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I think my honest truth on that is like absolutely,
- 18:27Speaker 3: it's worth it, Like absolutely, because one justin and my
- 18:32Speaker 3: friendship would have had to have changed regardless, Like we
- 18:34Speaker 3: were way too close for that to be normal if
- 18:37Speaker 3: any of us are dating somebody else, And even when
- 18:40Speaker 3: I was dating somebody and Justin was dating people, like
- 18:44Speaker 3: our friendship dynamic change and like obviously online we still
- 18:48Speaker 3: did funny bits together and stuff. But when we were single,
- 18:52Speaker 3: our friendship was so close. We were like basically dating
- 18:55Speaker 3: but like just not kissing. We were like spending so
- 18:57Speaker 3: much quality time together. We knew each other very well,
- 19:01Speaker 3: and so that would have to change regardless of if
- 19:04Speaker 3: we ever dated or not. And when I get married,
- 19:08Speaker 3: when Justin gets married, when we have kids, like I
- 19:12Speaker 3: wouldn't be going over to Justin's house to hang out
- 19:16Speaker 3: with him and his wife like the way that me
- 19:18Speaker 3: and Justin used to hang out. So you're gonna lose
- 19:23Speaker 3: some of that friendship anyways, at least in my opinion, respectfully,
- 19:26Speaker 3: Like if you are in a respectful relationship, it's gonna
- 19:30Speaker 3: be very unlikely that your partner is like that cool
- 19:32Speaker 3: with you having a best friend like that, So yes,
- 19:38Speaker 3: it's worth it because it's gonna change anyways. But then
- 19:40Speaker 3: on top of that, like we did have something very
- 19:44Speaker 3: special and still do like there's still so much love there,
- 19:49Speaker 3: and I think we both kind of feel like, well,
- 19:51Speaker 3: you never know, like what might happen in the future
- 19:53Speaker 3: because we there is so much love that it's like
- 19:56Speaker 3: I even think that's probably why you know, we would
- 19:58Speaker 3: not even wanted to like address so much, because it's
- 20:01Speaker 3: like we it's really hard to like once you say it,
- 20:04Speaker 3: it's like, Okay, now everyone like is in on this
- 20:06Speaker 3: and like knows and that's really the direction we're going
- 20:09Speaker 3: and stuff like that, where I think in normal relationships
- 20:11Speaker 3: in life, you're you know, you can do this in private,
- 20:17Speaker 3: So yes, it's worth it. I think if you feel
- 20:21Speaker 3: love for somebody and you think there might be more there,
- 20:24Speaker 3: absolutely try for it. Because what we didn't have in
- 20:28Speaker 3: our relationship was so freaking fun and like it really was.
- 20:34Speaker 3: The best thing is like I've never had somebody that's
- 20:36Speaker 3: been such a best friend that's like also become like
- 20:41Speaker 3: a partner, and so it is really special, and like
- 20:45Speaker 3: I do think it can work with the right person
- 20:49Speaker 3: and with the right tools and the right you know,
- 20:51Speaker 3: headspace and all that stuff. It's really really really special.
- 20:54Speaker 3: So yeah, I would say go for it. You're gonna
- 20:57Speaker 3: probably lose out on the friendship eventually anyways, So if
- 21:00Speaker 3: it's a special person to you, it's totally worth it.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And even if it's just for a season of life,
- 21:04Speaker 3: like you might get the most wonderful season of your life.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You know. That's great advice. Yeah, And I really can
- 21:12Speaker 2: only listen to people who have been through it. You've
- 21:14Speaker 2: been through it, and it is beautiful. And you know,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I got to see you two together. I got to
- 21:20Speaker 2: see the two of you within a week of each other,
- 21:22Speaker 2: now not together, both beautiful humans and doing your best
- 21:26Speaker 2: at this. And that's all the questions I have about
- 21:30Speaker 2: your relationship. That wasn't my intention coming in to talk
- 21:33Speaker 2: about it for so long, But I do think your
- 21:36Speaker 2: advice at the end will speak to many. So take
- 21:39Speaker 2: the leap, Susie, to totally transition here. You do have
- 21:55Speaker 2: a new project coming out, one that has been talked
- 21:57Speaker 2: about and we're really excited for here at the almost
- 22:00Speaker 2: famous podcast. It's called Live Laugh Lies. It's a podcast
- 22:05Speaker 2: that you're hosting, and Susie, I, to be honest, don't
- 22:10Speaker 2: know a lot about this new project. And I have
- 22:13Speaker 2: all the notes in front of me that could tell
- 22:14Speaker 2: me everything about this new project, but I'd rather hear
- 22:17Speaker 2: it from you, and so what is going on, what
- 22:19Speaker 2: is happening, and why are you excited about it?
- 22:22Speaker 3: I'm so excited. So I was kind of approached about
- 22:26Speaker 3: this project and started working on the development with it,
- 22:30Speaker 3: and it just kind of like blossomed into something that
- 22:33Speaker 3: we didn't even really know. We didn't even know exactly
- 22:35Speaker 3: what it was going to be. The idea was that
- 22:38Speaker 3: there's just like so many wild stories out there, generally
- 22:42Speaker 3: thinking about dating, marriage, stuff like that, you know, scandals,
- 22:46Speaker 3: And then as we've kind of unpacked and started filming,
- 22:48Speaker 3: we've like it's just even developed into more. So we
- 22:52Speaker 3: have already filmed like probably six episodes and got three
- 22:56Speaker 3: more before the end of this week, and then we're
- 22:57Speaker 3: launching next week. And the guests we've gotten are so badass,
- 23:03Speaker 3: Like they are some of the most interesting stories in
- 23:06Speaker 3: my opinion. A lot of them revolve around like cheating, scandals, infidelity,
- 23:12Speaker 3: like cult like experiences. There's just it's just like really
- 23:22Speaker 3: taken its own form. There's there's so many unique guests.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I don't want to like spill any tea because I'm like,
- 23:27Speaker 3: I think we want to surprise people with the people
- 23:29Speaker 3: we have coming on. I'm sure like Bachelornation can probably
- 23:31Speaker 3: guess one of them, but it kind of comes to
- 23:34Speaker 3: like it comes it becomes like a true crime meets relationships,
- 23:39Speaker 3: but not just like dating. It's like life relationships too.
- 23:43Speaker 2: How are you finding your guests though? I mean these
- 23:45Speaker 2: are obviously sometimes stories kept secret or kind of pushed
- 23:49Speaker 2: under the rug. How are you finding them?
- 23:52Speaker 3: So a lot of them are people that have like ei,
- 23:54Speaker 3: they've spoken publicly about it on TikTok. I feel like
- 23:57Speaker 3: TikTok has been such a big part of our show,
- 24:00Speaker 3: Like we keep finding these crazy stories about people who
- 24:03Speaker 3: experience just the most wild things, like I can't believe
- 24:07Speaker 3: in the stuff that our guests have experienced, and even
- 24:11Speaker 3: like docuseries and like different shows that are coming out,
- 24:15Speaker 3: I think it's like inspiring people to speak up about
- 24:17Speaker 3: their experiences. And one of the things that we've realized
- 24:20Speaker 3: on our show is that there's so much shame in
- 24:22Speaker 3: the like the victim experience, Like people that are being
- 24:26Speaker 3: victims of whether it's like crimes or cheating, lying scams,
- 24:32Speaker 3: Like people are really shameful about their experience because they
- 24:35Speaker 3: feel embarrassed. They feel like people are gonna think I'm dumb?
- 24:39Speaker 3: How could I fall for this? Like why did I
- 24:41Speaker 3: accept or tolerate this behavior for so long? And so
- 24:44Speaker 3: that's become like a really interesting nuance of the show too.
- 24:47Speaker 3: It's like, Oh, there's so much more to this than
- 24:49Speaker 3: just a juicy story. It's like there's a psychological experience
- 24:53Speaker 3: that people have, and the more people talk about it,
- 24:56Speaker 3: the more people like learn how to avoid these red
- 25:01Speaker 3: flags or avoid getting scammed, or avoid accidentally joining a cult.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Like there's like a lot of things that people feel
- 25:10Speaker 3: shame about and they're afraid to talk about it. But
- 25:13Speaker 3: we just we were starting to see it more and
- 25:14Speaker 3: more everywhere. So I feel like we're starting to uncover
- 25:17Speaker 3: all these different pockets of communities and people that have
- 25:20Speaker 3: had these experiences.
- 25:22Speaker 2: What makes you like the right host for this show?
- 25:26Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Okay, So episode one I talk about
- 25:31Speaker 3: I have a couple of interesting dating experiences, and I
- 25:36Speaker 3: talk about them. But I dated a guy. I don't
- 25:41Speaker 3: know if this will give it away, but basically I
- 25:43Speaker 3: dated a guy that literally lied about what. I don't
- 25:48Speaker 3: know if I should say I basically dated a guy
- 25:51Speaker 3: that lied to me about having cancer and ordered to
- 25:54Speaker 3: for me out to break up with him, and there
- 25:55Speaker 3: was like so much more to that relationship that was
- 25:58Speaker 3: just like wildly manipulative, toxic cheating, And so as we
- 26:05Speaker 3: started to develop this show, I was like, you know what,
- 26:07Speaker 3: like I actually have a really crazy story and it's
- 26:10Speaker 3: actually shaped how I've dated, Like that was one of
- 26:13Speaker 3: the first people I dated in my entire life. So
- 26:15Speaker 3: like every person after that, I've kind of brought in
- 26:18Speaker 3: my own baggage and been like, hey, like I went
- 26:20Speaker 3: through a really crazy experience and had something really traumatic
- 26:25Speaker 3: happen in my life, and so it's affected my really
- 26:30Speaker 3: the whole trajectory of my life. So I think talking
- 26:33Speaker 3: about it has been somewhat like therapeutic for me, and
- 26:37Speaker 3: then bringing on guests and like we've brought on you know,
- 26:42Speaker 3: specialists and people who can analyze these kind of people,
- 26:44Speaker 3: and it's just been such a great experience for me
- 26:48Speaker 3: as well. But I think that probably having that dating
- 26:51Speaker 3: experience has really shaped me, and it's also just like
- 26:55Speaker 3: given me this like fire to be like, yeah, the
- 26:57Speaker 3: more we talk about this, the more people can learn
- 26:59Speaker 3: and grow and not make the same mistakes.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Is that the hope for the show then I mean
- 27:04Speaker 2: if you thought about each episode or each season, kind
- 27:09Speaker 2: of the point to even putting this content out there
- 27:13Speaker 2: outside of you know, obviously it's going to be enjoyable
- 27:16Speaker 2: to listen to, right, What is the underlying point that
- 27:19Speaker 2: you hope these this project brings to the world.
- 27:24Speaker 3: It's a great question. I think, Uh, it's a lot
- 27:28Speaker 3: of it is just like opening up dialogue and like
- 27:30Speaker 3: letting people or having people not feel alone. Unfortunately, so
- 27:37Speaker 3: many people go through a scandal, manipulation, lying, cheating, Like
- 27:44Speaker 3: so many people have these experiences, and so yeah, I
- 27:47Speaker 3: think it's just like a place where people can like
- 27:49Speaker 3: hear these stories and one be entertained because we do
- 27:51Speaker 3: laugh a lot on the show. Like it's not it's
- 27:54Speaker 3: not super dark. It's not like, yeah, there's some true
- 27:57Speaker 3: crime elements, but it's we are not it's not a
- 28:01Speaker 3: miserable show, and it's certainly not. This is one thing
- 28:03Speaker 3: I feel, like I've said time and time again, like
- 28:05Speaker 3: I never ever wanted to feel like a show where
- 28:07Speaker 3: we're like talking about men cheating on women. Like we
- 28:10Speaker 3: have men as guests that come on as well, So
- 28:12Speaker 3: it's like an environment where everyone can learn and be
- 28:15Speaker 3: open and honest, Like, people do crazy things and normal
- 28:19Speaker 3: humans unfortunately have those experiences, even if they've not done
- 28:25Speaker 3: anything to attract it or you know, participate in it.
- 28:28Speaker 3: So I think the underlying reason for doing the show
- 28:32Speaker 3: we've kind of discovered is to like understand people, better
- 28:36Speaker 3: understand why people lie, and understand how to avoid putting
- 28:39Speaker 3: ourselves in those positions if we can.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I'm excited for this. I mean, I'm trying to make
- 28:45Speaker 2: a parallel here. It's like a dateline meets Yeah.
- 28:54Speaker 3: It's like it's hard to say because some episodes are
- 28:56Speaker 3: more serious than others, but yeah, it is. It's like
- 29:01Speaker 3: it's like uncovering just crazy stories, like unbelievable stories that
- 29:05Speaker 3: you're like, how did this happen to somebody? And we
- 29:07Speaker 3: basically ask all the questions like how did you find
- 29:10Speaker 3: yourself in this position?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Are you the main hosters or a co host?
- 29:14Speaker 3: Right now?
- 29:15Speaker 2: It's just me Yeah, cool, I uh okay, when does
- 29:18Speaker 2: it come out? And where can people listen?
- 29:21Speaker 3: September fourth, anywhere you listen to podcasts. And we're also
- 29:25Speaker 3: going to be doing some really fun video elements. Obviously
- 29:28Speaker 3: I'm a videographers, so like it's like we got to
- 29:30Speaker 3: have some cool like visuals, so on YouTube it's while
- 29:33Speaker 3: there's going to be some cool overlays and stuff like that.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Live Laugh, Lie September fourth, hosted by Susie Evans. It
- 29:41Speaker 2: sounds like an absolute hit. I mean, like I'm you know,
- 29:46Speaker 2: I can't imagine something that's set up to be any
- 29:51Speaker 2: less of a hit like this is. This has all
- 29:53Speaker 2: the stuff that people love, right, the little bit of
- 29:55Speaker 2: true crime, some comedy, the ability, like I said at
- 29:58Speaker 2: the beginning, without even knowing the concept for a show
- 30:00Speaker 2: that you can kind of make fun of, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 2: yourself and situations that you know, maybe are uncomfortable, your
- 30:06Speaker 2: ability to do that as a host, and then also
- 30:08Speaker 2: get the story out there so that people can learn
- 30:11Speaker 2: and grow maybe not do it again. Anything else about
- 30:14Speaker 2: the show that we didn't ask or didn't cover that
- 30:17Speaker 2: you want to talk.
- 30:17Speaker 3: About, I don't think so. I think that's pretty much it.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I I guess, like PSA, I'm new to hosting. So
- 30:25Speaker 3: if you guys listen, just know it'll probably get better
- 30:28Speaker 3: as it goes on.
- 30:28Speaker 2: You know, yeah, you should hear. You should go back
- 30:31Speaker 2: and listen to almost famous episodes one through one hundred
- 30:35Speaker 2: and here my process yeah, and hear how I have
- 30:38Speaker 2: not changed, I have not gotten better. I just still
- 30:41Speaker 2: keep a job. I don't know how, but I'm here. Uh, Susie,
- 30:45Speaker 2: You're great, Thanks for coming on, Thanks for sharing everything. Uh,
- 30:49Speaker 2: it wasn't the intention to come on and talk about
- 30:52Speaker 2: Justin as much as we did, but it did feel
- 30:55Speaker 2: right like. It feels like there's respect, there's care, there's love.
- 30:58Speaker 2: It's tough, but also got some good advice from you. Really,
- 31:02Speaker 2: the big reason when to have you on is to
- 31:03Speaker 2: talk about this, you know, live laugh Lie. September fourth,
- 31:06Speaker 2: everybody can listen to podcasts hosted by Susie.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Thanks for coming, Thank you so much.
