- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get on to the show.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: What's up guys, guy here.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is Friday morning, a rare Friday.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: A very different schedule for me this week because I'm not calling a college football game.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not calling in a field game.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this will be my last show before next week scheduled to do the post game Rams reaction YouTube as usual.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: But things happen with a baby due on Tuesday.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: producer Connor is here as well and he'll weigh in on some of this.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: He wrote some stuff over this sub stack.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: Very upset about the lack of movement at the trade deadline.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see if I can calm him down.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers will decide on Friday whether or not Brock Perti is in uniform, not starting, but in uniform, maybe as a pack of quarterback or a emergency quarterback on Sunday when the nighters take on the ramps big game.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: I am a very clear vision of what I would do and not do with Brock Perti.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: What I would not do with Brock Perti, given that it feels like at this point his foot injury will not be fully healed until the season ends, is I would wait as long as possible to plan.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Meaning, I wouldn't keep riding with Mac Jones until I need Brock Perti or until people tell me, Brock Perti is 100% good to go, which doesn't seem like based on Kyle Shanahan's.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: media availability and this press conference comments that that's about the happen and what people talk about with this to injury doesn't feel like that's about the happen.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think what I wouldn't be trying to protect against is bringing pretty back in immediately getting worse again, pretty playing a game, then
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not, you know, whether you play as well or not, making it worse, then not being available to following week, then Mac Jones coming in.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones who was played excellent football, but has felt to me to be like, on the verge of every week.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's a moment where you go, why is he limping?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Or why is he slow to get up?
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: and then you get Mac hurt and now Brock's not available because you got him hurt and Mac's not available.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think you cover your base is better if you keep Brock party on ice as long as you possibly can with the hope that you don't need them but the very real possibility that at some point you will because Mac Jones, there's a long way to go, this is only week 10, taking a lot of hits and you know, feels like he's on the verge.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now does that mean you
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: that does.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: But until you tell me Brock Party's healthy, why am I replacing healthy mac Jones with not healthy Brock Party?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm no doctor, maybe something maybe want to use a doctor, it does feel like the second he gets back on the field.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: we start like chipping away at the level of health he has with that turf toe injury.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where I'm at.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: At this point, we don't know the practice on Friday, they'll determine we may not find out until 11.55 a.m. on Sunday, whether or not Brock Pertizian uniform.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: But that's where I'm at with that.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is also the first show since the no trade deadline for the 49ers.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: So there's this debate like, well, they made trades before the deadline weeks before the deadline should I be satisfied with that or should I be mad that we didn't get Quinn and Williams.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to that and, you know, Rams game and Brandon I use.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, that's where I'm at with Brock.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the most.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: controversial, but like can be controversial, right?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: What did Dan Orlovsky say this week?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's a brewing quarterback competition, whatever you want to call it in San Francisco, Brock Pertis a really good player.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones has been sensational.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing it with people who've been beat up, starring prodo player who haven't been healthy.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's been knocked around.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with all those injuries, those still the race.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's a quarterback controversy brewing.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: there's going to be seven or eight teams that are looking for a certain quarterback next series, absolutely proven to be one of the best 32 quarterbacks.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: So how do you say this isn't dramatic, but also kind of agree with the fundamental that they've got two quarterbacks and you'd have to be blind.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: to see that they've got two quarterbacks that are good.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, the first thing is you kind of get off the hook because Brock's hurt.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: And by being hurt, you don't really have to do anything right now.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it's so interesting that Matt Jones signed a two-year contract.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I haven't quite understood yet why Matt Jones would sign a two-year contract, seeing what Sam Tharnl did.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's our last key point is you could trade them.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: You could trade them after this year, but my argument at this point, my stance at this point would be, why would you?
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you're getting a first round pick, I don't think you're getting a first or even a second round pick for Matt Jones.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: Even if he takes you to the energy championship game, oh, maybe you'd get a second.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he's so cheap.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: You keep him around.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: And you see what happens.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's the toe heel properly.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: What happens in 2026.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you're a ways away from this being a problem right now.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: What this is is a solution.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: It could it be a problem, it could be, but a lot of things can happen before this becomes a problem to prevent it from being a problem.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones, injury, Brock health, Brock comes back and plays better than Mac, Mac Tails off, whatever.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a million things that can happen before this is a problem, but I also think it would be foolish to pretend like it could never be a problem.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, Brock side is big contract.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Max under contract next year.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, Brock gets hurt again, Mac plays well again, and then you have a decision to make as every quarterback contract with the 49ers has.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's always like some day in April, where you go, oh, wait a second.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they could get off the hook for 55 million guarantee if they make a decision today.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: So that day's coming, maybe, maybe not.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what I know right now.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is a solution, it's not a problem.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's a solution, it's not a problem.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: And given that Brock's foot is not about to be totally healthy, I wouldn't rush him back, given how well Mac Joe's is playing.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Who, like in this situation, why do you ever rush a guy back when your team's winning?
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Playing well, the guy replacing him's playing well?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: The only reason the rush him back, I guess, would be to establish, like, no, no, no, no, he's still the starter.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think, I don't think Kyle's gonna do that.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see him play too.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right now we've got a solution.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right, with that is my opening comments, let's bring in producer Connor, who you can read over at his sub-stack, Joe Ko Show, where he does power rankings and 40 matters reactions, and we'll link that down in the YouTube description of the podcast description.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: And he's been following all of this very closely.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: So what's your, you, I did not tell Connor my take on,
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: on the quarterback situation at this point.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're yet on how quickly you'd bring Brock back.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's no, there's no rush.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think they learn their lesson, right?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to back for the Jacksonville game to re-enter that toe.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, Mac was hurt that week too, right?
- 8:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: But Mac Jones playing at a high level.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's also so likable.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: He also clearly says this is Brock's team.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like this, like he has a complete understanding of his role.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that helps like, you know, Brock is the long-term plan.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: And that is, you know, there's no sense in Russian back, like he said, when there's six and three.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the one thing about trading Mac Jones, maybe after this season is you can control him not going to a division rival.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: like Darnold went after the QB recovery system with he's now at the Seahawks plane really well.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Jones, last thing we wanted was him to go to the Cardinals and take over that.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: That take go to the Cardinals.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, I kind of get in there, but no, I think with Matt,
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, playing out a high level, winning games, doing his ass to do and then being extremely tough and just taking so many hits on front of that line, like I think there's no sense to rush him back.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: Now, you know, three weeks on the road could completely flip and, you know, they're very desperate.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: Then do they rush Brock back potentially, but at this point in time, not Jones has beat the Rams.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's, he's looked good in all those games.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's been in five wins as a backup quarterback.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: He's kidding.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's unbelievable.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: I, and I go back to my original
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: right now Brock is a safety net because he's or at least he's close to being a safety net right if Matt gets hurt your close enough it feels like to health with party that you can get a game or two out of them and minimal yeah if he comes back and gets hurt and then you then you're back the age of in Martinez you know if Brock and then it's all of a sudden Brock's out in other six weeks we're doing this again
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: That to me is where you really get yourself in trouble.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: So if you if you shave away all the controversy of your love ski, all that other stuff and just go, what makes the most sense right now to me, what makes the most sense right now is having, per day at least at a serviceable health level, in case Mac Jones gets hurt.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Because the one thing at this point that can tank your season is neither one of those guys is available.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and you have Christian McAfrey trying to throw, you know, passes in the NFC title game.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Do you, I mean, can you bring pretty back without him playing to his full potential and that he scrambles and runs on the toe, like does he, can he control that if he's in the game?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not, right?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I just don't keep him on the leash.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see the value right now the way that Mac is playing and bringing Brock back if he's not, you know, he brings such a mad element that Mac joke doesn't have.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's ability to write like I don't remember what the stat is now, but at the beginning of the last year, I think he was Third, I want to say in the league in first-down rushes for quarterbacks like 21 rushes for first-downs last year, which was Top three I think was top three was without a doubt top five in the NFL.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it was third But if he's not that guy then what's the point like I'm not saying that's the only thing that makes it better, but
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: After watching Mac, I don't, I don't, I think that is, I mean, in a way, like Mac, I know it's this season and, you know, last year, Brock was a little forcing it, but this year, Max looks like it's Brock and Mac, maybe Brock at his full potential with the scrambling ability.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: That is what separates him, but right now they're the same player and Max playing better.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I think you roll with Mac.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: I also think it's so like there's such a human element to this which is when you're the backup guy who's not the guy you're just it's all gravy yeah that is a very different experience to be in the guy that just got paid $250 million in the whole thing rest of it now it's like all right bro go prove it.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's a different place to be.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's a phenomenal, yeah.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a very, you know, I'm not, it's hard to, to quantify it, but it's like, if you said, all right, tomorrow they trade Brock party and they pay Mac Jones $250 million, which is not happening.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: The Mac Jones, it's, we all start looking at it through a different lens and maybe he starts becoming a different player, right?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's a very different type of pressure.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's like in the scramble when like the 20 handicap is like, I'm bad and it just starts performing.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: No expectations, but exactly.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: Damn.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: do it again tomorrow and tomorrow and that's what you're 20.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so yeah, actually good.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: There's no, there's no sense in taking them out.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: And the controversy, I don't think inside though, I've ever been on the team knows it's Brock's team.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I think Max made a good job of letting people know that.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: You, um, the Niners did not make a trade at the deadline.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: They made trades.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: You wrote about this over at, uh, Joe Co. show where you have the Niners right now.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Somehow behind the three and five ravens in your power ranks.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's a 13.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Your upset minimal trade deadline movement has a fan base frustrated.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: It is the six win Niners from the thick of the NFC playoff picture.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: Within 84% playoff chance.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: If the defense can generate disruptive past rush, can't wait, by the way, hopefully plays this week.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: So are you was this emotional or have you were yet now a few days removed from the trade deadline because we I did not do a show right after the trend that I wasn't able to very emotional.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: This was this was off the heels of.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: Every week, look at the athletic play of picture, then I was went from 73% to make the last 82%.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: They're in the best division, one of the best divisions in the NFL.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: However,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: They have Christian McCaffrey that is on-paced for 2100 all-purpose yards.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: We just talked about Mac Jones is playing out at extremely high level.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: The often should be getting pieces back, air quotes, we don't fully know.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: But the key guy is, we talked about a lot off season, the schedule.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: Who do the Niners play?
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I know it shook out a little bit differently every year in the NFL.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: It does that.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: The Niners have the 25th toughest remaining strength of schedule.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: If the Titans at home, they have the Bears at home.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: 7th easiest.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: They have the browns on the road, but that's doing Gabriel.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: The Panthers at home, which you know, the Panthers are looking better.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: The Cardinals at home, there are several wins in that schedule.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: And the fact that they couldn't, you know, muster up something to just make a trade.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: And what I think about a lot is that Houston Texans game.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: So you just threw out a 3rd and 7.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: He just stood in the pocket for what felt like 25 seconds, no past rush, and he just completed a 3rd and 7.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen enough from the secondary, I've seen enough from the young linebackers to be like this team with a little help from the past rush can actually win and get stops and make bigger plays.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: Perfect example is Bryce Huff.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Huff was a solid guy.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was a great signing and he's looked really good.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guess what?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: He got injured too.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone's getting injured.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: You also need to make a trade for depth.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't I don't I don't fully understand it in the last minute.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: And look, where is he?
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's potentially, I know, but I mean, like, isn't that the formula?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but you also, like, I mean, I was arguing, go for like a bigger knockout punch.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of available talent.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I know there, you know, weighing the options and, you know, the great, the trade calculators and whatnot, two more points.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very weird NFL season.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I know the Rams and the C-Ox, right in front of you are scorching hot, right?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Middle of the season, they're two MVP potential candidates
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: and Matt Stafford.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: But last week we saw the Lions and Packers almost as double-digit favorites lose at home.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just there's no really it's all reshuffling in the end of NFC and I mean anything can happen you remember 2021 the you know the Niners made that run this this reminds me of the 2021 season kind of flipped to where there's a pretty injured season the Niners got hot once seven to last nine or ten games and mid the NFC title push and then the
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's he, he's not guaranteed to be the Niner's Defense of Coordinator next year.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like you, you have all these things, the schedule, Robert, Saul, Matt Jones, plan a high level.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, my Catholic knock-on would, is healthy right now, and you weren't aggressive because you wanted to not get fleece to quote unquote, but I mean, I just, I just thought it was a really good opportunity to, you know, go, gas pedal and just just see what, we see what happens.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the sauce gardener trade was crazy.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: The guy that I really like is quitting Williams, like Jalen Phillips as a rental with an ACL history doesn't appeal a ton to me even though he's a very good player.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, equipment Williams is really attractive, but you had to trade a player plus a first, a 2027 first, and a 2026 second ramp pick.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not not rich, but you're going to really get player.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: And to your point, like I did think about this with Quinn and help out the next guy, if saw it's not back, help out the next guy
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: is really valuable to you.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe it's, you know, I think at this point, if you had to put a prediction on it, maybe it'd be just Bradley.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: Although, who was it on the show?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was Caminman said, what about Rahim Morris if he gets fired and Atlanta would be an interesting one.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because that's part of the Shania entry.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: I also think in people, nobody will like this because there's like, how do you say you're trying to win a championship, but then not do literally everything you possibly can to win a championship.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's a compounding effect of having not won the Super Bowl that makes it feel like every year now you've got to double down to win a championship.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: And the hardest thing to do is to act like you've been there before when you haven't, you know, can you have the patience of a team that has won a championship?
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: because that's the right way to do it, even if you haven't won that championship, right?
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the healthy place to be because what I see when I look at this team is evidence of how you see some of the pieces that help you build, that you drafted.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think one of the unfortunate parts of this year for all the guys that are out and hurt is one of the guys that seems to be hurt and in,
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: It was going to be a big year for Dominic Puni, the right guard.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: Admittedly, he got...
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't adjust the last year, the league adjusted to him.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: And Chris forced to the offensive line coach was very forthcoming about that.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of the year, there were so many technical things that Putin didn't have time to learn before the season that broke down.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he was not the same player at the end of the year that he was the beginning of the year.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: And like I thought this was a huge year to find out is Dominic Pune, like a nice pick, who's solid or is he truly,
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: Not like I say, Mikey, a potty, but kind of like you're in right guard of the future for a long time, solid lock it down.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think we have that answer this year, right?
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I think he's not healthy watching him.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we got hurt in that radar game.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think he might have in the preseason.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't, you know, we got hurt before that.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then he got hurt again.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: He got hurt in one of the in the first preseason game, I think.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember exactly what how it played out.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: But preseason feels like a lifetime ago.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, like when I look at this team, I see guys who need to be on the field playing and maybe next year, guys you draft it, who can turn into something more.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you just, you see so many holes.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like Quitting Williams fills a hole.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it, but there's still so many more holes.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: But next year, there's no guarantee anyone's gonna be healthy next year at this rate.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: And you have, I don't know, I mean, like you just, you have this schedule and you've already won six games and games you've almost like, you won the Rams.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: And now you also have the NFC, the C-Hawks and the Rams at home.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: So like the reason is the context you're in this spot.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: And you also have a home Super Bowl.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: If you're gonna let the Rams and C-Hawks walk to a home Super Bowl or the Eagles.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: Or the Eagles, that's just.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anybody in the NFC that wouldn't piss you off?
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, geez, I think to tear to be Seahawks Rams Eagles.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Eagles will be third.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather the Seahawks place.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: Superbowl leave.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: I would rather the Seahawks.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: The Eagles to me feel laugh.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's our first, I guess, on that list.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Josh.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: Give me the lions, maybe.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: But I just, yeah, and none of them feel good.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I understand.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I guess, you know, and I hate doing this.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: It happens all the time in college football and coaching searches.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're like,
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, just be happy with eight wins.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's who you are.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: And there's this fine line of like knowing who you are and not firing somebody's action doing a good job for your job.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: and also not being afraid to dream bigger.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, no, no, why do we have to be just a main windy?
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: Why can't we, you know, in college it's funny because like the powerhouses are in places that don't necessarily, you know, the economic centers of America.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: SCC, yeah.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and yeah, it's like Athens, Georgia is where one of the best teams in the country reside.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: So like you're sitting there and pulling it off, she's like, well, why not us?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: or whatever.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean, Gonzaga basketball is a great example of this.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why not us, right?
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: Conor is a big mistake, I guy.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, like, I get it.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think it's reasonable to take a step back.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: You add when you try to want in a two and a player for Quinn and Williams.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: For what, really?
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: And don't get me wrong out of the other side of my mouth.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say, all you got to do is get into the dance.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: win a game.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: You never know.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: All that's true.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a really tough balance.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really tough balance.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just it was just frustrating the feeling of punting on the season when you're sitting here with what do you know, like they did make trades.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but players.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to let's just see how hard he 10 minutes before the death.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's like a putch.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's like a
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, let's just see, my thing is, I think we'll see.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Bryce Huff goes out, balls out.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he can't white his phenomenal.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: But I, one of the most frustrating things will watch as a fan is the lack of past rush and just getting picked apart.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm guessing that might happen.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: Game script is gonna flip.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: Niners have to throw the ball.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is kind of how I see it going, but I hope I'm wrong, but maybe they did enough.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe did enough, maybe they somehow
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, yeah, I'll tell you, even the other day, when, um, Jackson Dart, like, it, it feels like every, even my wife was like, I feel like this happens all the time.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, yeah, actually it does.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: It was like two guys that happened with Baker, it happened with Russell.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's happened with Kyler, it happened with Caleb Williams.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: Where's like, he can't get out of there.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's sacked and then he's out for a 17 year run on 13, 15.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, but it's crazy.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's happened to Bosa, it's just, it's happened to everybody, I mean, it's brutal, quarterbacks are also sometimes strong.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, if you want, quote, and what if you want, if you want Jalen Phillips, shouldn't you wait, let him finish the season healthy and then sign a next year as opposed to adding him this year and having him get hurt.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the way, the way that wasn't true.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: To the forward question, that would be good.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what I will McDonald was a kind of another one or even chub, chub is signed to a kind of a bigger contract.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't always be like $20 million next year, 31.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: 31, don't love that.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if they could re-structure that.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Rock it on that.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, what McDonald is, as two years left or a year, and then his fifth year, he played with Robert Saul.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that might have been a second.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Um, could you flip in later on if you don't know?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's just also what's wrong with with that what's wrong with someone outside of, you know, Bosa and Bosa is coming off in ACL.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like this could also be for a kill.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I tell like this is maybe not just this year.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: This could also be for 2026.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think I got it out, but we'll just, we'll just see how this goes.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think a lot of people, I get it.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: I do, I'm not, I'm not, I'm pulling that at all, I get it.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: Getting close, by the way, I'm a, I don't know about you to quote or the late great Bill Walton.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: who I worked with a few times, and I know you admired as a college basketball fan, it's not the same without him to have another college basketball season without Bill, but the line I use a lot that he used is, I'm old enough to remember, and then he says something that just happened like him for a second.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm old enough to remember when Ricky Pierce always one of the best receivers of the NFL.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's out on the practice field, working to get back.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Brandon, I youth practice when the night yet opened.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's talk receipts where we ten and you know, there's a lot of like oh, you know, maybe around a week eight right week seven week eight and there's really no buzz on I You okay, that's the one that's that's that's that's that he's not back and but then you know Lynch understands that because he made a comment today about how severe the the injury was it Also, I don't know like every week on I think Thursday Lynch goes on KBR it felt like
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I'm this could be misremembering, but it felt like one week it was like a eukes close in the next week, a eukes not close.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: It just doesn't feel, I don't know.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it feels so far away and then it feels right there.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I just, you know, I just, I'm not gonna believe it until I see it.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, pure soul, hopefully, you know, what do you have any idea of what your expectation for pure souls?
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, once you start to me, like once you start practicing again or at least working on the side and I have no, I haven't charted this, like,
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that generally, doesn't that generally kind of mean your couple weeks away from like really being back like maybe you get back on the practice field the next week and then you get back the following week.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think what's interesting about this the one thing I'll add is you would not drop a schedule this way with a week 14 by.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that schedule doesn't hurt.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it doesn't help like guys that are out for the year, obviously, but I do think it's interesting when you look what they have until they're by Rams this week, Cardinals on the road, Panthers at home, Browns on the road by Tennessee at home, Indy dome, Chicago home, Seattle home.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I said the other day after they beat the Giants and some people reacted like I was saying the Giants win was significant.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was just what was significant was it was a double you in a column.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't matter to me who you beat.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if you can go foreign for the rest of the way and Seattle is one of those four.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Chicago is one of those four in Carolina is one of those floor like that to me is the that's you are in the playoffs And really you could argue just Seattle being one of those four put you in the playoffs.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um So you know, I do see you just the recipe for them to okay What if I you could still a month away?
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's not the worst that you comes back for titans cold spare sea hox I mean you would argue
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: I guess the Panthers would buy record right now would be in there, but of your remaining schedule, you know, your three toughest games are probably Rams Colts on the road.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: See y'all in home.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Speak to something you hear a lot in college.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: You control your own destiny, but they really do.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: They have the way the schedule broke this year.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: The Panthers are a surprise story, but luckily you get that game at home in prime time, which they usually feel like perform pretty well.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Same thing with the bears down the road.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, and then we were kind of talking earlier, but the Brown is always a tough one.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: Cleveland, Cole, who knows when their defense is phenomenal, but it's still in Gabriel,
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: or shoulder, or I don't know, that politely is to any more.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: At least it's not flacco.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's actually a good place.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is not flacco, yeah.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, the schedule again, it's sort of breaking, but yeah, there's, there's the Rams, Colts, and Seahawks, those are like on paper, the hardest.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: What would your ideal week by week be?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe this week?
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: Big 10.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: What are the players would say?
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think generally people like it in the middle.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, two by weeks would be good.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of college teams have two now.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then math.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then they have a division two team right before the rival game.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's right.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: But like in the big 10, they don't play that.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: They don't do that.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: They just have two buys and then continue on with conference play.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you know their name, SC.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_02]: That's that for this, right?
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: Anything bad?
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, nine is rams.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's nine is a four and a half point underdogs at home.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: Shane hands 11 and seven against McVay.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: And seven and three against the spread, according to some sources.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: Seven and three, okay, he's got a seven and three record.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: One against the spread.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Against the spread.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: Calshian and seven and three against spread.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: So that doesn't mean anything for an honor win.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Rams are good, they're Matt Staffer.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: The looks very good.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: And they just, he's back, it's fine.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm about to, that's the thing I, like I remember what we before the season like I was Staffer's back.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, all right, I'm old enough to remember that, too.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm old enough to remember.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: It should be a tough, I don't know.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be tough game.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, hopefully you have by doing a, if, if you don't get a post game for me on Sunday, everybody, you'll know why it's, uh, we fire drill over here.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, otherwise we'll have to do a post game Sunday, and that'll probably be it for the week next week.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: Probably, but, um, we'll see what we're,
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: Delving into a newer whole new world over here.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: So awesome reactions on subject, Joe co-show.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: So check those out.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe you're doing something on the channel Sunday.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not here.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'd be a good idea, actually.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Connor.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: Would a Mac Jones guy you'd have a beer with?
- 30:24[SPEAKER_02]: And Uber home.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: I still funny.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, that guy's hilarious.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's so funny.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great guy.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: Thank everybody.
