- 2:07is what you're saying?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yes, okay, do you like ice cream? I like frozen yogurt? Okay?
- 2:15Learning more about you is the day goes on here.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Khalil Ben and Jerry's is one of the famous ice
- 2:22cream companies the country.
- 2:23Speaker 1: In fact, I.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Did a tour of their ice cream plant in Vermont
- 2:30back many many years ago. But they're bringing back a
- 2:33flavor on October tenth, ten ten. And the reason for
- 2:39that and the flavors, they're pumpkin cheesecake. Oh okay, they're
- 2:43pumpkin cheesecake ice cream. And so it's got this creamy
- 2:51frozen treat maybe with a thick gram cracker swirl sixteen
- 2:56ounce pipe.
- 2:57Speaker 1: They'll bring it.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Out and they bring it back in the fall. So
- 3:01bringing it back next week on the tenth, because it
- 3:04was rated a ten out of ten on back in
- 3:06the day as being that good an ice cream.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Those of us who are not in the pumpkin eh,
- 3:11not so much.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I like Chunky Monkey, you know, the banana t ar
- 3:15ting like that. Yeah, yeah, that's good. The cherries Garcia
- 3:19after Jerry Garcia. There's different ones that I like. But
- 3:23you know anyway, that one's coming next week. Okay, this
- 3:30is this is.
- 3:30Speaker 1: A nice gesture.
- 3:32Speaker 2: There are a lot of us who go through a
- 3:36lot of headaches with air travel.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Do you fly much. I do not, actually can't stand
- 3:42flying right now.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Well, well, I understand that United Airlines passengers were pretty upset.
- 3:50This happened a few days ago and it was going
- 3:55from Houston to San Francisco, and they had some issues
- 4:02because a Navy man had passed out and collapsed in
- 4:05the bathroom. Prompted the pilot to ask if they were
- 4:08any medical professionals on board to help before announcing the
- 4:12plane would have to land to seek help.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So they landed in New Mexico.
- 4:16Speaker 2: All right, So they landed emergency stop in Albuquerque. Medical
- 4:20event they get him off the plane, but then they
- 4:24couldn't take off again. All the passengers were asked to
- 4:28disembark from the aircraft. They waited for a new flight
- 4:30crew to arrive because the other flight crew was out hours.
- 4:33So this brought about a long long to lay one
- 4:37hundred and fifty passengers. So they're really upset. So now
- 4:41it gets in the nighttime. Passengers were eventually given fifteen
- 4:44dollars food vouchers, but one of the passengers said all
- 4:48the airport restaurants were shut down.
- 4:49Speaker 1: They were closed by that. Wow.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So the pilot, who had to navigate the emergency landing,
- 4:56saw what was happening.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So what did he do?
- 4:59Speaker 2: He ordered dozens, well thirty total pizzas from a local
- 5:05pizza shop and had it delivered. And he went and
- 5:08hand delivered these pizzas and gave out slices.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Of pizzas to the passengers. That's nice, pretty cool. I
- 5:14would appreciate that because I know in a situation like
- 5:16that I would be frustrated. I mean, fifteen dollars voucher
- 5:20for food in the airport, it might get you a
- 5:22back of chips. Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And then and then, like I said, they were all
- 5:24closed anyway, so you can't get anything anyway. Thank goodness
- 5:27he did that. Let's gets caught up on all the
- 5:33tropical storm stuff because it's kind of scary. Obviously with
- 5:37the tragic stuff that happened with Hurricane Helene. They're going
- 5:40to be cleaning up for a while in my home
- 5:41state of North Carolina, in the western part of the state,
- 5:44especially up in the mountains. So they have been tracking
- 5:50three other storms in the tropics. Three fortunately right now.
- 5:57The most dangerous of these, which is a Category two
- 6:02hurricane and could reach Cap four status. It's starting to
- 6:06curve north in the Atlantic and not go out into
- 6:10the Gulf and not and even east of Bermuda, what
- 6:13he calls him that.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So, here's this churning storm that is going.
- 6:19Speaker 2: On in the Atlanta in the Atlantic, and they said
- 6:25it could wind up being one of the most powerful
- 6:27storms ever. But it's just hanging out in the middle
- 6:30of the Atlantic Ocean, so unless you're flying or on
- 6:33a boat going across there, you're probably.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Not going to encounter it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And then by the time it reaches the real cold
- 6:39water when you get up north, it'll decompress after that.
- 6:42But they're watching that. There's another storm directly behind that,
- 6:45but they think it's just gonna, you know, follow the
- 6:48other one. It's going to trail the hurricane Kirk. And
- 6:51then there's a third one that is in the Gulf.
- 6:55But it's not really well formed yet. It's not a
- 7:00a well formed tropical it's not even really a tropical
- 7:03depression right now.
- 7:05Speaker 1: It doesn't have a name on it yet.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They said it's pretty unorganized and they're hoping that that'll
- 7:11stay out of the area. So that's that's good to
- 7:12know there, especially as the folks are cleaning up from
- 7:15the in the aftermath of Hurricane helenk Okay, two other things?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Are you a collector of things? Act? Yes? I collect?
- 7:24What do you collect? Manga? Basketball cards, football cards? Okay?
- 7:28And pens? From where places I visit? All right?
- 7:32Speaker 2: So you would be interested in collecting a medallion? Then?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Right? Oh? Yes?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Would you be interested in collecting a medallion that contains
- 7:40the original mold from the discovery of penicillin?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Actually? Yes, okay?
- 7:46Speaker 2: This happened in nineteen thirty was when doctor Alexander Fleming
- 7:49Are nineteen twenty eight discovered penicillin when he accidentally left
- 7:55a stack of staff cultures next to an open window
- 7:59while I'm the vacation he comes back from vacation. The
- 8:02cultures were contaminated by an airborne mold, and before disposing
- 8:06of the cultures, he noticed that the mold had prevented
- 8:09normal growth.
- 8:10Speaker 1: By the staff.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So he was able to create the medallion is a
- 8:16gift for his niece and inscribed it with a message
- 8:19the mold that made penicillin Alexander Fleming. So this medallion
- 8:26contains a specimen of the original penicillin mold on blotting paper,
- 8:31mounted with a glass disc held in place by a
- 8:34black plastic rim two inch in diameter thing. So where
- 8:40this Well, it's going to go on auction, online auction,
- 8:44and it'll start next week.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Entry bid is thirty thousand dollars.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Oh okay, so it might be a little outpriced for
- 8:52you there, a little bit, all right. It could go anywhay,
- 8:54thirty to fifty thousand dollars for mold woo. Right, all right,
- 9:00there's our heart inconceivable. For Wednesday, we'll be back to
- 9:06wrap up Hour number one on Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 9:08under the Zone.
