- 0:00Speaker 1: The mark the motion on w o R. Well, the
- 0:05Speaker 1: greatest living DJ, the legend, Scott Shannon, of course, radio legend,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and uh, it's great to have him back with us.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Scott Shannon, how you doing.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I know that you're a humble, shy fellow. I gotta
- 0:21Speaker 2: tell you. You've been on You've been on fire this week. Man,
- 0:24Speaker 2: you've been doing it. Today's awesome. You've got a lot
- 0:27Speaker 2: of good calls today. Yesterday you did the Hannity Show.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And you are the voice of the Sean Hannity Show.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean you were. You know what's funny
- 0:39Speaker 2: is usually when somebody fills in for another, you know, star,
- 0:45Speaker 2: they're always but you do this if you're the same
- 0:47Speaker 2: guy doing either show.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That's true. Uh, I guess, well we're pretty similar shows.
- 0:54Speaker 2: But well, you seem very you sound very relaxed when
- 0:57Speaker 2: you're doing it. It's very comfortable for you.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's called half asleep, that is.
- 1:04Speaker 2: And by the way, that your Trump phone is going
- 1:07Speaker 2: to be just a little bit late. You ordered one
- 1:09Speaker 2: of those Trump gold phones, didn't you. Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I like that. That's pretty good.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, supposedly they're supposed to ship this week, but
- 1:19Speaker 2: they've got some problems Trump Mobile. The CEO over there
- 1:23Speaker 2: blamed the delays on phone parts needing to be tested
- 1:28Speaker 2: for quality assurances they got. They didn't test them first,
- 1:32Speaker 2: so they're not sending them out yet. You you don't
- 1:36Speaker 2: have to worry about it, you know. I've been pretty
- 1:40Speaker 2: busy myself because my network where I try to keep
- 1:44Speaker 2: the oldies alive the sixties and seventies, True broke open. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 2: that's it. But the problem is that it's not a
- 1:53Speaker 2: problem for me, but it's just, uh, we've all of
- 1:56Speaker 2: a sudden, a lot of stations, a lot of companies
- 1:59Speaker 2: are coming, I mean to us to put our network
- 2:03Speaker 2: on their station because, as you know, radio is having
- 2:09Speaker 2: some problems right now. There's still there's some you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: obviously Iheart's doing time, but a lot of companies who
- 2:16Speaker 2: aren't as well driven, let's put it that way, they're
- 2:20Speaker 2: having some problems. They're having to cut people, cut people
- 2:23Speaker 2: pretty soon they don't have anybody to go on radio.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but you can listen to Scott Jennen every morning,
- 2:28Speaker 1: the True Oldies Channel, and some stations like all of
- 2:31Speaker 1: a sudden, now one in Boston they're airing your show,
- 2:34Speaker 1: So you're the morning man all over the country. But
- 2:36Speaker 1: where should people go to listen to true Oldiest channel.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well, you can obviously in Boston we're on WME actually
- 2:44Speaker 2: just started last week as a big one. And then
- 2:47Speaker 2: here in New York we're on ninety two to three
- 2:51Speaker 2: FM HD three, And a lot of people listen on
- 2:54Speaker 2: their Alexa or you know anything like that. You go
- 2:58Speaker 2: to True Oldiesannel on iHeart Radio. He said, Hey, Alexi,
- 3:04Speaker 2: play True Oldies Channel on iHeart Radio. You know, it's
- 3:09Speaker 2: just it's just a way for me to continue to
- 3:13Speaker 2: do what I like to do beyond the radio. And
- 3:16Speaker 2: part of the show that I do, we use a
- 3:19Speaker 2: lot of these goofy stories, and I don't know, in
- 3:23Speaker 2: the past few days, there's been so many weird things
- 3:26Speaker 2: going on, you know. Did you hear the story from
- 3:30Speaker 2: Pope Leo a couple of days ago. He was trying
- 3:34Speaker 2: to call the bank, his bank when he lived in
- 3:37Speaker 2: Chicago or where he grew up, and he called me
- 3:42Speaker 2: just himself, and he wanted to change his mailing address
- 3:46Speaker 2: for all of his banking needs and all that. So
- 3:49Speaker 2: he told the girl and I said, well, she said,
- 3:52Speaker 2: and said, Pope Leo, she said what he said it's
- 3:56Speaker 2: the pope. She goes, oh, yeah, you're Pope Leo on
- 4:00Speaker 2: Virgin Mary Well and she hung up. He hung up
- 4:04Speaker 2: on the pope.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Well, who wouldn't if if a guy called me Sady's
- 4:07Speaker 1: Pope Leo, I would not believe me either. Who would
- 4:09Speaker 1: believe him?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Then we got a I got another. I got a
- 4:13Speaker 2: great story from Florida. This guy on a motorcycle arrested.
- 4:20Speaker 2: He was on a high speed chase. He was clocked
- 4:23Speaker 2: at one hundred and twenty miles an hour. But that
- 4:28Speaker 2: was that wasn't the weird part. He was dressed up
- 4:31Speaker 2: as the Easter Bunny. Honest motorcycle what pretty pretty funny?
- 4:37Speaker 1: How many tickets did he get for that one hundred
- 4:39Speaker 1: and twenty? That's like a felony, you know, that's like, yeah,
- 4:41Speaker 1: that's bad.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That's bad, bad, bad bad. And I and I know
- 4:45Speaker 2: you're a big rap music fan. So you you remember
- 4:48Speaker 2: Eminem right of course, very popular guy. Well, he had
- 4:54Speaker 2: he married his childhood sweetheart. I think he married her
- 4:57Speaker 2: a couple of times. Yeah, Emberly Scott is her name,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and both of them had drug problems over the years.
- 5:08Speaker 2: He managed to kick his but she goes back and forth.
- 5:13Speaker 2: She's fifty one years old, and this past week she
- 5:19Speaker 2: got She was taking her son, I think he's in
- 5:23Speaker 2: his teens, and a couple of his buddies. They're in
- 5:26Speaker 2: the car with her. They're going to the mall to
- 5:28Speaker 2: go shopping, and she smashed her range Rover into a
- 5:33Speaker 2: truck that was actually parked on this Bunne Even movement.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It was parked on the street and she ran into it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And then she didn't stop and wait for a cop.
- 5:44Speaker 2: She drove back to her house and when she was
- 5:47Speaker 2: pulling up in the driveway, she kept going and ran
- 5:50Speaker 2: into her garage. Well he crashed the garage into the
- 5:57Speaker 2: door right there. Bam.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Well that's I got eighth villamies right there. That's like
- 6:02Speaker 1: jail time for that kind of stuff.
- 6:03Speaker 2: That's not a been a busy, busy dame. Now, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 2: we got a new Rolling Stones album coming out, But
- 6:13Speaker 2: who's going to play ye oh wait a minute, I
- 6:15Speaker 2: hear you what who's going to play it?
- 6:17Speaker 1: I mean I gotta play one one hundred. They're not
- 6:19Speaker 1: going to play it on light FM.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I mean we're I can't even play it on the
- 6:24Speaker 2: true oldies. But I gotta tell you, like like me.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I you know, I couldn't stay retired. The Stones they
- 6:34Speaker 2: still want to play.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Okay, I guess Paul McCartney's always doing a new album.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Billy Joel did one last year.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, Jagger, I think. I think Jagger and
- 6:44Speaker 2: Keith are both eighty two years old.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yea.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And Ronnie Woods he's a young, spry chicken. He's seventy nine.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But the weird but the weird thing about the new album.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's called Forming Tongues, coming out July tenth, I believe,
- 7:00Speaker 2: But I saw the video. Have you seen the video
- 7:03Speaker 2: for the first song from the album yet. It's a
- 7:07Speaker 2: good song, but they used a I two make it
- 7:13Speaker 2: look like they're young again in the video. They're singing,
- 7:17Speaker 2: they're singing this song, but they look like they're, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 2: twenty years old.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Isn't that kind of sad though, that they have to
- 7:24Speaker 1: do that?
- 7:26Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah yeah? But I mean I saw him doing
- 7:29Speaker 2: that press comments the other day and he and Mix
- 7:32Speaker 2: had no work done whatsoever.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Oh you can tell?
- 7:35Speaker 2: And yeah, that's that's a good case for plastic surgery.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You see that. Yeah, but I don't think he wants
- 7:44Speaker 2: to go out on tour and Keith doesn't want to
- 7:47Speaker 2: do it. You know, he's not. He doesn't. He's not
- 7:52Speaker 2: in such good shape as Mick. To Mick mix the gut.
- 7:56Speaker 2: He can bounce around like a thirty forty year old
- 7:59Speaker 2: guy and it goes out on the stage. And then
- 8:02Speaker 2: you got the McCartney album. The reviews are really, really good.
- 8:07Speaker 2: They say it's one of his strongest albums in many,
- 8:09Speaker 2: many years.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but again, who's going to play it?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Well? Remember that, I think I told you the story before.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Elton John and Billy Joel arts still on their own
- 8:21Speaker 2: speaking terms now, And Billy called him and talked to
- 8:26Speaker 2: him and so, what are you doing. I'm working on
- 8:29Speaker 2: a new album? Man, getting a new album? Pat And
- 8:32Speaker 2: he said why, you know why? And he said you
- 8:37Speaker 2: aren't you going to do a new album? He says, No,
- 8:39Speaker 2: nobody cares about us and our new music. They want
- 8:44Speaker 2: to hear our old songs.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well we care about them, but their elder statesmen.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They do concerts, that's what they do.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah, but they don't. But you know, I saw a
- 8:54Speaker 2: tuition and I went to see Paul McCartney. I think
- 8:58Speaker 2: we're in one of the places in Jersey, one of
- 9:00Speaker 2: the big places there and that's where he was on stage.
- 9:04Speaker 2: You know, when he stops, he says, I'm going to
- 9:06Speaker 2: warn you right now, I'm going to do one of
- 9:08Speaker 2: my new songs. So this is a good time for
- 9:10Speaker 2: you to go to the bathroom, because I know you're
- 9:12Speaker 2: going to go anyway. So he actually, I never heard
- 9:16Speaker 2: an artist do that. If we know what you do,
- 9:21Speaker 2: we play our new music and a lot of like, uh,
- 9:26Speaker 2: you go see if you go see just about any
- 9:29Speaker 2: artists they want to they want to torture you with
- 9:31Speaker 2: the new song. Right yeah, McCartney. McCarty warns us, is
- 9:35Speaker 2: this is a good place to go to go get
- 9:37Speaker 2: a hot dog or whatever. So I thought that was
- 9:41Speaker 2: pretty funny.
- 9:45Speaker 1: There was Tony Bennett at the Copa Cabana and he
- 9:48Speaker 1: did all these unusual songs, these album cuts and the
- 9:51Speaker 1: big gangster owner. Afterwards, what the hell were you're singing?
- 9:55Speaker 1: He goes, well, those are my favorite songs, and he said,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm not paying you to sing your favorite songs, paid
- 10:00Speaker 1: you to sing their favorites.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You know, I was interviewing I think Bob Seger and
- 10:08Speaker 2: over at PLJ. He came up and he told me
- 10:12Speaker 2: that he went to see John Mellencamp in concert. This
- 10:16Speaker 2: is when Mellencamp read hot he had to he wanted
- 10:20Speaker 2: to play some songs from this new album. And he
- 10:23Speaker 2: goes backstage. Bob Sieger goes back stage. He says, can
- 10:28Speaker 2: I tell you something, John, I pay for my ticket.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I didn't get it free. I pay for my ticket,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and I expected to hear Jack and Diane and all
- 10:36Speaker 2: your hits. I don't want to hear that either. Crap
- 10:39Speaker 2: and either day he told me, he said that John Mellencamp.
- 10:45Speaker 2: From then on I never played any new music.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Hey, Scott Channon, I was looking at Here's the list
- 10:51Speaker 1: of the top most listened to morning shows in New
- 10:53Speaker 1: York like half the top five A your shows like

- 11:07Speaker 1: the number four, Jim Kerr. What a You've created quite
- 11:10Speaker 1: a legacy. You've left your mark all over New York radio.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Well, I just I though what I do. I just
- 11:18Speaker 2: I love it and I'm really I you know, a
- 11:20Speaker 2: lot of people don't understand because a couple of times
- 11:24Speaker 2: in the past. In the past, Sean has asked me
- 11:28Speaker 2: to fill in on his show. I don't. I don't
- 11:31Speaker 2: do that. You do, I don't, and I just I
- 11:35Speaker 2: just it's just not that I love working with music.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I actually got into radio because of my love for music.
- 11:44Speaker 1: That's how I did you want to be a singer
- 11:46Speaker 1: or something at some point when you were young? No?
- 11:49Speaker 2: No, I can't sing, And I try to play to
- 11:51Speaker 2: get to learn how to play the guitar. That didn't work.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I bought a far feace of one of those stand
- 11:57Speaker 2: up keyboards. I got played two songs, yeah play Uh.
- 12:02Speaker 2: The one was that what is it?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Downtown?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Only the downtown? She's about a move or like that out? Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 2: so you still got it man.

- 12:33Speaker 2: I wonder. I think it's a way to get me there.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I think there's a way to get
- 12:40Speaker 2: me to the big conference here it's.

- 13:14Speaker 2: whole cast. I do it by myself and one other fella.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And what's weird is his name is Todd, So I
- 13:20Speaker 2: say Scott and Todd, but people think it's the guy
