So I'm teaching today on the finished work of the cross. It's really important

as a Christian that you get that in your heart. And just what he said,

he said, Christ has, past tense, redeemed us.

So many people think they still need to get set free.

They need to get, but the reality is if you just know who you are in Christ,

that's why Paul prayed, beloved, I wish above all things you would be in health

and prosper, even as your soul prospers.

Cause he knows like, as you fix yourself on the inside, everything else follows.

It's fascinating. So of the son of his love in whom we have redemption through

his blood, which is the forgiveness of our sins.

See part of the problem that we have in the church today is that people are

using the wrong terms to describe their spiritual experiences and language matters.

Let me be clear with you this morning. The New Testament does not give one solitary

example of a spirit-filled believer.

So the reason I'm teaching you this is because if you've ever felt like you

need to get free or something in your life, the minute you realize that Jesus

paid it all, it really helps you.

It helps you to have victory over depression, over anxiety, over poverty,

over all the things. And we're gonna talk about that in just a minute.

Ever being inhabited? And you can tell by the crazies already on YouTube going

nuts, Satan doesn't want you to hear this mess. Like the devil does not want

you to know that Jesus paid for everything for you.

He doesn't. Owned or possessed by a demon. Not one.

In fact, Jesus explicitly says the opposite in Matthew 12.

Jesus says a house divided against itself cannot stand.

If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you cannot simultaneously be filled

with any other type of spirit.

Because when the Holy Spirit moves into your life, he's not occupying a room in your house.

A Christian cannot be possessed.

Although a Christian cannot be possessed, a Christian can be oppressed by a demonic force.

Paul tells the church in Thessalonica, I wanted to come visit you,

but Satan was hindering us.

Jesus warns the church in Smyrna, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison.

Paul tells believers in Ephesus, don't give the devil a foothold.

In Luke 13, Jesus binds the spirit of infirmity that had crippled a woman in

the synagogue for 18 years.

Oh, persecution can be a form of oppression, heaviness and fear can be a form

of oppression, depression and anxiety can be a form of oppression,

sickness and poverty can be a form of oppression.

No, the cross doesn't make Satan non-existent, it makes his defeat decisive.

He can still try and attack and try and tempt and try and accuse and try and

oppose God's people, but he no longer has the authority to hold them under the power of sin,

death, or condemnation.

So we're getting into your head today that there's a finished work on the cross.

That every sickness, every temptation, every addiction, bad habit,

emotional wound, or family problem is caused by a demon.

Sometimes Satan is involved. Sometimes it's the world. Sometimes it's the flesh.

Sometimes you simply made a bad decision.

But here's the good news. Believers are given a key in scripture on how they

can defeat the devil every time.

Okay. I don't have a book. I'm holding this down for you right here because

this is the key to everybody's life.

You know, you might think that it's just your personality or just people around

you that's messing with you.

But the devil, you know, he makes you feel sorry for yourself.

He makes you feel like God isn't on your side.

He brings you depression. He brings you anxiety. He brings you hopelessness.

But God loves you so much.

And Jesus finished it at the cross. Now, sometimes you might think,

OK, well, if he finished it, why do I still feel this pain in my side?

Well, because you got to resist the devil. Well, if he finished it,

how come I'm still struggling? Because you have to resist the devil.

And he tells you right here how you resist the devil. And I'm going to get right

into the finished work of the across in just a minute. I'll tell you in the

There's only one time in all of scripture where the Bible tells us to run away

And that's as it pertains to lust or sexual temptation.

The Bible says flee sexual immorality. You see this in the life of Joseph.

Joseph, when Potiphar's wife is trying to tempt him to sleep with her while

Potiphar is gone, Joseph doesn't stand there in the living room and debate with her.

He doesn't open up a book to research the seven ways that a person can overcome the temptation of lust.

He says, if you want to take my coat, that's fine, but I'm running out of this house.

That is the prescribed way that

Scripture gives when facing a temptation related to sexual immorality.

Every other thing that the devil authors from his camp.

The Bible says if you'll submit to God and you'll resist the devil,

the net result of those two activities will naturally produce that outcome.

The devil will run from you.

How do you resist the devil? You stand on the promises of God.

How do you resist the devil? You got enough word in your heart that it begins

to come out of your mouth. How do you resist the devil?

You rehearse the truth of God in your mind and in your heart until you have

settled the debate in your mind. If God's for me, who can be against me?

If God said it, he's going to do it and that's good enough for me.

He began my story, he's going to finish my story, and he's not done yet.

You resist the devil the same way that Jesus resisted the devil in the wilderness.

It is written, I'm not bound to you.

I'm not living in fear. Worship belongs to the Lord. You can throw every temptation

you've got in my direction as long as it's not sexual immorality.

I'm resisting you and you're running away from me.

Across the canopy of the New Testament, there are only 15 identifiable and unique

deliverance events in the entirety of the new covenant.

Only one out of the 15, the woman with the spirit of infirmity in Luke 13,

is the identity. So we're talking about the finished work of the cross. You understand that?

And well, that's what I'm talking about. And the reason why this is important

is because what he's saying is across the Bible, there's,

only one incident of someone he called daughter who had a devil.

And that was the woman, or I'm sorry, the woman bent over.

And so what he's trying to tell you, what every believer doesn't understand,

is just because you're going through a hard time, that is not God against you.

Just because you're sick, that's not God not healing you. There is a devil in

this world and he's going to test you. He's going to try you.

But that's why God said, my people perish for lack of knowledge.

You don't know anything.

If you don't know, you think God is against you. If you're struggling,

you think God doesn't want you to succeed. If you're sick, you think God doesn't want you healthy.

But what he's trying to show you is that Jesus Christ always delivers people.

But there is a fight to your faith. We don't fight devils.

We fight the good fight of faith. And what is that?

He tells you, hold fast to your confession. Hold on.

You know, there's all these songs. Hold on, baby. Hold on. Don't let go.

Some of you like, I know Marissa's watching. She got big old dogs. I used to have a pit bull.

My pastor used to say, hold on to the word of God, like a pit bull with a bone.

When the devil comes knocking at your door with trials, tribulations,

struggle, don't feed him a meal and say, that's right.

God hates me. This sucks. No, you stand your ground and say,

I don't know who you think you're messing with, but you got to go. And it might take, look,

Let me tell you something. I was in a fight for two years one time.

Now I'm not telling you that's how long it'll take for you. I'm telling you

what happened to me, right? Your healing is to his glory.

I don't think I needed to be in that thing for two years.

I struggled desperately with forgiveness. I struggled desperately with fear.

Satan doesn't just let you go, woo, I got victory. There is a fight to your

faith, but it's one you win, and this is how you win it.

You submit to God. You resist the devil, and he has to run, and you understand

that the work has been finished.

Many, many religions want to tell you that you got to do this and that and this

and that, and that's how you get free, but there's the finished work with the cross.

Jesus loves you and he paid it off. And listen to this real quick. A daughter of Abraham.

And none of the people in the 15 New Testament deliverance events are ever recorded

coming back for another deliverance.

It's not that I don't believe in deliverance ministry. He said there's not one

recorded incident in scripture where somebody gets set free and they got to

keep coming back to get set free. Do you know why that is?

Because the Bible says whom the son sets free is free indeed.

When Jesus sets you free, you are free. When I got into Christ and I was delivered,

I didn't have to come running back every week and say, oh, please set me free. I was already free.

But there is a cult out there. There are teachers out there that make you dependent upon them.

There are ministers that talk about their great anointing. Who do you think

you are? There is one person with a great anointing, and that's Jesus.

And I'm only a vessel. Am I anointed? Yep, because of him. Not because of me.

But guess who else is anointed? You are.

And any preacher that tells you that you don't have the same Jesus they have,

that you got to come to their special anointing is a nutcase.

Let me tell you the simplicity of the gospel.

Born again, spirit-filled Christian has as much power as any apostle in the Bible

because you have the maker of the universe on the inside of you and the devil,

he runs in trembling fear, if you know who you are.

But if you walk around like most Christians, the devil and the devil and the devil's got me.

And then let me tell you what I've been confessing about going into the devil's

den, which I'm headed to in October. You know what I told the devil?

You're not touching me. You're not touching my team, my family.

You'll back off. I'm taking territory for Christ. And you're not going to mess.

You're not going to mess with my finances.

I forbid it. I don't allow you to have a place because I'm watching my mouth.

And so that's what you got to do. Watch your mouth.

Put a hand over your mouth right now and say, watch my mouth.

Not man's way. But then speak life. The early church fathers of the second,

third, and the fourth century believe in and practice deliverance, as do I.

not by elaborate techniques, long series of commands, special formulas,

Justin Martyr and Tertullian in their early writings emphasized that demons

would flee at the mere mention of the crucified and the risen Christ without

the need for complex rituals. Right. Get this.

Tertullian was so convinced that demons were subject to ordinary Christians

through the authority of Christ that he challenged the Roman courts.

Bring me a demonized person and pick any Christian you want across the empire

and have them command the spirit to come out. If the demon will not submit,

you can execute the Christian on the spot for being a fraud. God.

The witness of church history stands against approaches that treat deliverance

as a skill set involving specific sequences, naming spirits extensively,

So the gist is that he's telling you that there's deliverance ministers out

there that they're always telling you, you got to come get deliverance again.

And as long as you do that, you'll need deliverance from now until Jesus comes.

Just the other day, we had this happen at the Seattle campus.

They'd sent me the video from it, but sometime during the week,

you know, they had the local, you know, witch's coven come out and they had,

put together an altar on the front steps of our Seattle building.

I felt bad for those The economy must be bad in the hallways of hell.

It looked like somebody got drunk and went to a Hobby Lobby and just threw random stuff in a cart.

And set up a little altar on our staff thinking they could scare us out of the

city. This is good, way too. You know, put their little feathers and bones and- Really good.

You know, sprinkle their goat blood. It's like you- Keep sharing,

keep sharing. We're growing in numbers. Keep commenting. Keep sharing,

But see, if you allow wrong teaching to inform your pneumatology or your demonology,

If you spend time in this book, you get so filled up with power and authority

that whatever room you walk in, you become the dominant presence in that environment.

a deliverance-free life does not mean a warfare-free life.

It means you stop living like you need demons regularly removed from you,

and you start living like a believer who knows how to stand in Christ's victory.

Submit to God. You got the Holy Ghost in you. He might have come in one way,

activity that happens in that region.

And in their email, they start asking me about mermaids and Leviathan spirits.

And it's like, I don't know if, I feel like I'm on drugs. I feel like I'm on

an acid trip reading this email.

You've got people who have become experts on what the devil is doing and they

only got a GED on what Jesus is doing.

Why don't you flip the script? Why don't you live your life focused on not only

what God has done, but what God is doing.

cooking right underneath its feet did you hear the church of jesus christ is

hear that every time they try to shut us up we get louder did you hear every

i don't live a demon focused life i live a magnifying the lord type of life.

So, you know, when you listen to this guy, you're listening to a preacher that

had to evacuate his house, I think three times now by the FBI because of death threats.

Someone was shot on the front steps of his church.

This guy is full of power and you are too. He is. And you are too. That's the simplicity.

That's what the devil doesn't want you to know. That's why he raises up these

cult crazies because he wants you to think you got to go to some special person

like that weirdo in Tanzania saying, you got to come to me. No, we don't.

We got Jesus is the mediator between me and God. Jesus ripped the veil in half.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross and his body said, it is finished.

And immediately we had instant access to the father.

You got the very power in the inside of you to keep the devil under your foot.

Now, Satan roams. Satan's here. He's on the earth. He's going to reap havoc.

But you've got power over him in Jesus' name. Submit to God.

Resist the devil. And he's going to flee. Number two, walk in the spirit.

If you walk in the spirit, you ain't going to fulfill the lust of the flesh. You got to run.

I can't cast out what the Bible tells you to crucify. My dad used to tell me

growing up. He said, you know, Russell, some people come to the altar.

He goes, I feel bad for the demon. I feel like casting them out of the demon.

Like the demon's been trying to get away. They're like, no, no, no.

I just got to hold on to this terminally unique, dysfunctional,

idiosyncratic item in my life because, you know, I just need another deliverance

to make it through. I got to look up some of his words. I'm trying,

And number two, you're going to stay in the way in which you should go that

you would never depart from it, keeping eyes on Jesus, who is the author and

the finisher of your faith. Number three, renew your mind with truth.

See, a lot of what people call deliverance is actually learning.

I want you to get this phrase in your head. and then when I get to my teaching

Jesus Christ, author, finisher of your faith. He's the one that did it. He paid it off.

In other words, their boss is subject to you.

Relationship is what you get excited about. Not that you can cast out devils,
